Anne Bradstreet s The Prologue
Section One: The Prologue 208 09 Anne Bradstreet s The Prologue is generally considered one of her
most vivid statements regarding her role in a Puritan society. This is a poem where she reveals who
she is to her readers. Bradstreet is critical of those individuals who place restrictions on women s roles
in society, especially in consideration of a female writer in a male dominated environment. In the first
few stanzas Bradstreet talks about how her ability as a poet is not up to the task, unlike the work of
men. This is implied when she mentions that Let Poets and Historians set these forth. My obscure
lines shall not so dim their worth. Bradstreet goes further and mentions her lack of ability in writing
and wishes she had the same ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the first lines of her poem she describes how a pilgrim reaches his goal. She references the pilgrim
as a symbol of determination and perseverance to be followed, especially when hoping to attain a
dream. Being a pilgrim herself, and living in a Puritan society, her audience was able to relate to her
plight and feelings about the journeys that are taken throughout one s life. In this poem, Bradstreet
uses her skills to compare the voyage to America from England to the journey a religious person is to
take to Heaven from Earth. Now that the journey of the pilgrim has ended, he no longer has to endure
the hardships of the trip to his destination, his dangers past, and travails done. However, in order to
reach his destination the pilgrim has made sacrifices, like leaving things behind. Otherwise he wouldn
t have been able to accomplish his feat, and therefore, to All cares and fears he bids farewell . Later
one Bradstreet contemplates how the pilgrim has been successful in his achievement, and how she
herself wanted to be part of such journey. Bradstreet sees herself in the image of the pilgrim,
renouncing to the world in her way to Heaven. She feels tempted, but obeys the will of God.
Bradstreet reminds others that while it is not easy to live a sinless life, the reward at the end is worth
all the effort. She understands the difficulties of her plan, and longs to be at rest and soar on high
among the blest. Although the journey is lengthy and arduous, Bradstreet realizes that there are still
many years before she achieves her goal, years in which she will have to continue following the
Commandments and struggling against the society she has been born in. Still, she continues her
journey, weary, but hoping for rest, until the day she completes her voyage to eternal life in

How did pop art challenge beleifs in consumerism Essay
How did pop art challenge beleifs in consumerism Introduction:
In order to discuss pop art I have chosen to examine the work and to some extent lives of Roy
Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol who were two of the main forces behind the American movement. I
intend to reflect the attitudes of the public and artists in America at this time, while examining the
growing popularity of pop art from its rocky, abstract expressionist start in the 1950s through the
height of consumer culture in the 60s and 70s to the present day.
Roy Liechtenstein, (fig 1) was born in 1923 into to a middle class Hungarian family living in New
York, there was no artists on either side of his family and throughout Liechtenstein s schooling there
were no art ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He continued his education at the Carnegie Institute in Pennsylvania graduating with a BA in Fine Art.
Warhol moved to New York in 1948 49 where he started work as a graphic designer, creating adverts
for fashion magazines such as Glamour, Vogue and Harper s Bazaar. Andy Warhol shot to fame and
soon became highly respected as a commercial artist. Tina Fredrick, then art director of Glamour says
She was thrilled by Andy s drawings but could not find a commercial use for them. She told him his
drawings were good, but Glamour could only use drawings of shoes at the moment. The next day
Warhol came back with 50 drawings of shoes footwear being an important part of his advertising
career until the mid 1960s.
In 1949 Harvey J Earl of General Motors pioneered Planned Obsolescence . He realised that by adding
fashionable products when new trends come in older products would be discarded in favour of the
latest fashion.
This realisation changed consumerism forever and was the start of a consumer culture, which was to
spread rapidly. In the 50s it was for the most part an American phenomenon due to the fact that they
had the money and manufacturing productivity to make it possible, for example, the affluence of
America meant that almost every family owned a car and food rationing was unthinkable while in
Briton the opposite was

True Grit Based on the Novel by Charles Portis Essay
The Journey
You must pay for everything in this world (Portis 40). In the screen play of True Grit based on the
novel by Charles Portis, the character of Mattie Ross goes on the hero s journey to avenge her father s
death when she hears that her father was murdered in Fort Smith. Her decision to purse the killer takes
her journey into Indian Territory. Throughout her hero s journeys she will have to go through three
stages, separation, initiation, and the return. Mattie will also have to complete the steps that are within
the stages.
In the beginning of the film, Mattie Ross starts her journey of separation when she leaves home to get
her father s body after he has been killed. The first stage of the journey is the call. This stage, ... Show

The separation from her old world is now complete. She is in the unknown where the next stage the
initiation begins.
Mattie is now in the initiation step of the journey, where she will go through four parts; the first part is
the challenges and the second is the abyss. Anywhere that Mattie went she faced challenges as how
the hero s journey s writes, Whichever direction the voyage takes... [she] puts [herself] more and more
at risk, emotionally and physically.... always seem to strike the initiate s greatest weakness: [her]
poorest skills... [Her] most vulnerable emotions (Harris and Thompson 51). A challenge that we see
Mattie puts herself at risk and show her weakness is when see faces Tom Chaney and says, I have
come to take you back to Fort Smith... [Chaney] Well I will not go ... If you refuse to go I will have to
shoot you... Then you had better cock your piece. Mattie gives a dismayed look at the gun and tries to
pull the hammer back... she struggles (Coens 82 83). As you can see Mattie put herself at risk facing
her father s killer and also showed that her weakness is her poor skill on how to handle a gun. Second
part is the abyss where, the initiate faces the greatest challenge of the journey.... Often final step...

American Imperialism In Australia Essay
The reasons for colonisation by the Spanish in the Americas and the British in Australia had many
similarities. These similar factors included, improving trade routes, expanding their colonies for
wealth and power and obtaining new resources. In addition, both groups wanted to explore beyond
their own country. However, there were also a few big differences. For example, the British used
Australia for the keeping of convicts, due to the overcrowded prisons in their own country. They also
wanted to claim the land, preventing settlement in Australia from other countries, such as the
Netherlands (Dutch). An aim for the Spanish, in the Americas, was to convert more people to
Christianity, as well as becoming more well known and important. In the ... Show more content on

In both the Americas and Australia, the native dwellers were forced to relocate and adapt to new
circumstances, due to the taking of land by the Europeans, who felt that they had the right to, due to
their self proclaimed superiority. The weapons of the Aztec and the Aboriginal cultures were also
influenced in big ways after the colonisation; as they adopted many of the settlers more technological
weaponry. The Indigenous in the Americas and Australia were forced to change their religious beliefs,
and become Christians. The Aboriginals in Australia were sent to mission stations, and were made to
forget their own beliefs and traditions, which were seen as nomadic to the British.
The Indigenous people were thought to be inferior by the colonisers, and as a result, were the victims
of injust treatment. In both situations, the Indigenous people were met with torture and abuse, as well
as manipulation. Their rights were cruelly taken away and they were forced to become slaves for the
colonisers, who took advantage of the skills and abilities of the Indigenous people. In Australia, the
Indigenous Aboriginals were poisoned and hunted by the European settlers, and were victims of racist

David Grusin s On Golden Pond
David Grusin is the composer for On Golden Pond. He was the composer for The Graduate and The
Goonies which are films that I recognized but have not yet seen. I selected On Golden Pond because I
had not heard of the movie beforehand. The 1980s was full of electronic music; however, this film
featured no electronic pop. The film is only instrumental, and due to the fact, the film focuses on an
older couple dealing with growing older and their time with a young man named Billy, I believe the
score is appropriate. When looking at the theme from The Goonies, the use of piano and strings are
apparent in both films.
From the beginning of the film, the score was a peaceful piano piece that went along with the scenery.
It was gentle and non threatening. There is a flute, or other woodwind, that joins the piano, and this is
when a car is seen driving by. Later strings join the ensemble and the music all continues to be soft.
This reassured me that the movie would not be dark or overwhelming. The theme music and film s

This noise is natural and allows the scene to seem realistic, but the music returns when the man goes
into the house and reflects on the items in the household. Throughout the film this transition from
nature to On Golden Pond s theme occurs often. This changeover generally indicated a change in
scene or a resolution to a conflict. There were few moments of conflict where the music fills with
brass sounds and takes on a tense feeling. For example, when the main character goes for a walk in the
woods, I appreciate that the music is heard throughout his walk, it sounds like a harp, other strings,
and woodwind instruments. The audience can hear the leaves crunching and birds; however, when the
music becomes faster and takes on lower pitches, one truly feels the man s stress of becoming lost in
the forest. Additionally, the shift from soft to loud occurs frequently throughout the

Okonkwo And The Igbo Clan
Downfall of Okonkwo and the Igbo Clan
Being manly can sometimes be good, but being too manly can lead to complications with family,
religion, and society. The author of Things Fall Apart, Chinua Achebe, portrays the protagonist
Okonkwo as a very manly and masculine man, as a result of his father s laziness and feminine nature.
He wished to acquire the noblest titles, and become a leader of the Igbo clan to show his success as a
man. Hiis short temper led him to beat his three wives and children, especially Nwoye, to make sure
he turned into a man who kept his women in check like himself. Chinua Achebe named the book

Jean-Baptiste-Simeon Chardi s Saying Grace
Saying Grace is a still life painting by French painter Jean Baptiste Siméon Chardi and it was finished
in the year 1740. The painting portraits the modesty of everyday scenery during 1700 s in Paris,
France. The portrait shows a humble, middle class interior scene, were a mother and her two young
children are gathered around the table for a meal. While the mother arranges the table, the two
children are preparing themselves to say grace by lowering their eyes and heads. Holding a silver
spatula in her right hand, the mother with kind looking eyes, checks her younger child saying her

Escherichia Coli
Bacteria are minute prokaryotic organisms that are individually too small to be seen by the naked eye.
The majority of bacteria make crucial contributions to the benefit of the planet by maintaining a good
balance of living organisms and chemicals existent in the environment. However, a minority of
bacteria can be harmful to the human body, often being associated with death and disease and the
causative agents of food spoilage. A bacterium that has a variety of both good and bad is Escherichia
Coli, most commonly referred to as E. Coli. E. Coli is a rod shaped bacterium that is found in the
intestinal tracts of warm blooded organisms, more commonly that of cattle. Having been first

Current biological research investigations show that both lemon and lime juices have an affect on
slowing down and potentially stopping the growth of Escherichia Bacteria by creating an inhibition
zone. This can be seen in an experimental report done by Dr. Zahra Muhsin Ali Antagonism activity of
citrus fruit juices on some pathogenic bacteria. The experiment was conducted in the Biological
Department of Science at Kufa University to determine the antagonism activity of both Lemon and
Lime juices against various bacterium, one of them being E. Coli. The results of the experiment
revealed that each juice concentration had inhibiting effects against bacteria due to the presence of
citric acid and some volatile oils. The results also showed a reduction in the value of pH. The
investigation was further proved successful due to both juices from lemon and lime were found to
have inhibited the E. Coli bacterium parameter with an inhibition zone ranging from 8 29mm which
can be seen in figure 4. The antagonism effects of the lemon and lime juice was compared with the
antagonism effects of some antibiotics, the results being that the isolated E. Coli was resistant to the
majority of antibiotics. Proving that overall the experiment conducted was successful

Implications Of Dual Language Immersion
Dual language education benefits both English dominant students and English language learners with
a goal of helping students to become bilingual, bicultural and biliterate. This paper will explore the
Implications of Dual Language Immersion programs in US schools. While dual language education
has existed in the United States for roughly two centuries, and it reached its height of popularity in the
1970s, the use of dual language education in public schools has declined significantly in recent
decades due to legislative actions that have sought to limit its use. When used, dual language
education is generally seen as a way to ensure that non English speaking students, or students who are
not yet proficient in English, are given equitable opportunities to succeed in and complete their
education. While schools and teachers may use a wide variety of dual language strategies, each with
its own specific instructional goals, the programs are typically designed to simultaneously develop
English fluency, content knowledge, and academic language the knowledge, skills, and cultural
proficiencies needed to succeed in an academic program.

What Are The Continents Coastlines Once Connected
Have you ever thought of the idea that the continents were once connected? Scientists believe that
around 300 million years ago the seven continents we know today were once connected to each other
to form one massive continent called Pangea. There is a lot of evidence that supports this idea. First of
all, some continents have coastlines that would fit together like puzzle pieces. Secondly, there have
been almost identical fossils found on different continents separated by miles of ocean. Lastly, similar
glacier deposits are on four different continents. There is evidence that the shape of the continents
coastlines were once connected. In Figure one I see that some continents coastlines look like they
would fit together perfectly. It is almost like they are puzzle pieces. A good example of this would be
the eastern coastline of South America and the western coastline of Africa. I can imagine these pieces
of land sliding together perfectly. Another example is, Australia s southern coastline rotated to Africa s
southeast coastline is. The shape of the continents coastlines is evidence that all of the continents were
connected at some point because the coastlines could fit together. There is fossil evidence that shows

In Figure three, I see that the southern sections of South America, Africa, Australia, and Asia all have
similar glacier deposits from the Permian period. If the continents were where they are now when the
glaciers were present, they would have come from the ocean. Since glaciers can only form over land
and in very cold climates that would have been nearly impossible. My explanation for finding similar
glacier deposits on different continents is they must have been connected and had a very cold climate.
The similar glacier deposits found on different continents is evidence that the continents were once
connected because of the elements glaciers need to

Haemolytic Anemia Research Paper
In my opinion, based on signs and symptoms this patient suffers from hemolytic anemia, characterized
by reduction in the number of circulating red blood cells, caused by accelerated destruction and
removal of these cells from the bloodstream before their normal lifespan is over. When blood cells die,
bone marrow produces more blood cells to replace them, however, in HA, the bone marrow does not
make red blood cells fast enough to meet the body s needs. Many diseases, conditions, and factors can
cause the body to destroy its red blood cells. This type of anemia can be inherited, where parents
passed the gen to the child (hemoglobin defects, enzyme defects, membrane defects) or acquired,
meaning it developed overtime (infectious diseases: hepatitis, streptococcus; medications such as
acetaminophen, antibiotics, ibuprofen, interferon alfa procainamide). In some cases, the cause of
hemolytic anemia can t be established. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Animals Have Been Used For Animal Therapy From Early As
Animals have been used for animal therapy from early as the 18th century (Chu et al., 2009). Animals
have been shown to aid in lowering stress, feelings of isolation and depression. Studies have shown
that different types of animal therapy can be helpful with a range of mental illnesses, from
schizophrenia to anxiety to dementia. There are many ways that animals can be implemented into
different forms of therapy. There are uses for animals in psychological and physical therapy. Each of
these present paths to help different types of mental illnesses in separate ways. For my research, I

Next, the focus turned more on questions about therapy animals and what those surveyed knew about
animal therapy. These questions, Which animal would you choose to have as a therapy animal? , and
What animals have you seen used as therapy animals? , are able to gauge the knowledge of therapy
animals and the frequency that some animals are used compared to others. The question about which
animal the participant would choose was based on the idea of less common animals, such as goats,
being used as therapy animals and if someone would choose a farm animal as a therapy aid.
The last section of questions focused on mental health and stress. The questions were based around the
mental health and/or stress level of the participant to see how these factors may affect their opinion on
the use of therapy animals for psychological therapy. The responses collected compare the stress level
of the participant and their feelings on an animal s positive influence on their own mental health or
decrease in stress levels. These questions were based off some of the information that I found in the
article by Mills (2014). He wrote about the bonds between humans and animals and how they have

explanations as to why letters in antiquity would give us insight to the people writing and receiving
them, as well as how Paul s and other letters from antiquity gives us a broader perspective of those
times. The purpose of this book is to illustrate the basic mechanics of letter writing, explain how it
was part of the culture of antiquity (p. 15) and also showcases Richards perspective on how we should

Taking a Look at the Kyoto Protocol
The Kyoto Protocol is a binding international agreement, which began in Kyoto, Japan in 1997. As of
June 2013, there were a total of 192 parties participating in the Kyoto Protocol, Canada was no longer
one of them. Canada was one of the first to sign the agreement, in 1998; more than 4 years later,
Canada formally approved the Kyoto Accord, in 2002. This meant Canada would have to decrease its
emissions, by 6% in comparison to 1990 levels (461 Mt), by the year 2012. Despite some efforts,
Canada failed to meet these requirements and in fact increased total emissions by roughly 24% by the
year 2008. Canada formally withdrew from the Kyoto Accord in 2011, avoiding penalties and future
detriments. The withdrawal of Canada from the Kyoto ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the year 2000, before ratifying the agreement, they began with $500 million, in comparison to the
total amount just three years later, $500 million is not a lot. Federal spending reached 1.7 billion in
2003, just one year after Canada ratified the Kyoto Protocol, and two years before the protocol took
effect. If Canada had endured the agreement, it was believed to have cost over ten billion. Although
we should be involved in saving the earth, the amount of money is too big of a price to pay, and we
will never know how much it would take to reduce greenhouse gases to that of the agreement.
The Kyoto Protocol does not benefit Canada because it is unfair, too costly, and now that the United
States has withdrawn from the agreement, it can only be bad news for Canada. The Kyoto Protocol
does not treat every country fairly. Canada has more to lose with the Protocol than other countries, and
they should all be treated in the same way. Some of the world s largest polluters, such as China and
India, are exempt from round one of the Protocol because they are seen as developing countries with
more important issues to deal with. Secondly, Kyoto allows some industrialized countries, such as
Russia and New Zealand, to make no cuts, and even permits some places, like Iceland, to emit more
greenhouse gasses. The protocol will be unsuccessful and ineffective if every country is not on board.
Finally, Canada will need to provide

Kimpton s environmental sustainability initiatives have proven successful and beneficial both in terms
of its environmental and business benefits. Environmental improvement is one of the benefits of

2. How would you justify the EarthCare program to Kimpton s board of directors and stockholders?
That is, what is the business case for this program? The top executives considered this program for
many positive reasons. First off, the company s brand and mission rested on the EarthCare program to
maintain the care integrity, and uniqueness that customers had come to associate with its chain of
boutique hotels. Kimpton wants their impact to be felt all over, where this program can influence other
hotels to start an environmental initiative. Also, the EarthCare program is willing to stay abreast with
ongoing standards and norms of the company. It will also being about new success, new business

General Managers who may fear losing their autonomy because of a corporate mandated program.
Potential resistance by hotel staff to new products and procedures. Kimpton had a low turnover rate.

Fair Trade vs Free Trade
Fair Trade Versus Free Trade
Cohort 4 believes that fair trade is the most prosperous way to trade with other countries. Both free
trade and fair trade have advantages and disadvantages. The researchers in Cohort 4 have established a
viewpoint regarding fair trade and free trade. Considering the research that the cohort has conducted,
they are in opposition to free trade.
The terms free and fair trade sometimes go hand in hand but there are distinct differences between the
two. According to Wikipedia, free trade is a system of trade policy that allows traders to act and or
transact without interference from the government. Free trade implies the trade of goods without taxes

nine percent of Americans believe that free trade agreements with other countries have cost jobs in the

Miller v. California: Obscenity
Leanna Richardson

In the case, Miller v. California, obscenity was redefined and it was determined that it did not have
protection under the First Amendment. The case began in 1972, when a man by the name of Marvin
Miller mass mailed ?adult material? in brochures as an advertisement strategy (Chicago Kent College
of Law, 2015). Five of these brochures were sent to a restaurant in Newport Beach, California. The
manager and his mother opened the letter containing the crude material. After having unwillingly
received these materials, they complained to the police (Miller v. California, 1973). He was first

Chief Justice Burger wrote and delivered the opinion of the court. The argument the Supreme Court
presented was that obscene materials have been ?thrust? on people, who did not want to receive those
things. They stated that states had rights concerning this issue. They have the right to prohibit these
materials when it ?carries significant danger of offending the sensibilities of unwilling recipients or of
exposure to juveniles? (Miller v. California, 1973). Burger also wrote on behalf of the majority that ?
We hold that obscenity is not within the area of constitutionally protected speech or press.? There
were no concurring opinions but there were two dissenting. Justice Douglas argued that because the
court changes their mind frequently concerning the standard to which obscene materials are held to,
that Miller should not be punished for the negligence of the Court (Miller v. California, 1973). Justice
Brennan argued that Court, Congress, or States could not decide whether obscene materials are

Status Of Women In The 1800s
Throughout the twentieth century the status of women has been on a slow, but steady upward slope.
The women of this time worked extremely hard to earn the rights and status we hold today. The
improvements in the status of women were subtle in the beginning. In time though, it became well
known the overall status of women and how they once were viewed was to be changed for the better
in the eyes of society. The change in women s status included but was not limited to: improvement in
their every day work atmosphere, voting rights were given, and the ability to be noticed for their hard
work was achieved. Solely the women themselves did not achieve the noticeable improvement in the
status of women; the federal government played a large role in the improvement as well. The federal

Because the women were working these long hours they felt they needed to be heard when it came to

effort substantial differences in countries reporting regulation and practices remain. This paper
explores these differences and the reasons why they exist as well as why they are likely to persist in

Essay on Privacy Infringements through the Internet
Today in society, people are expected to be able to protect their own privacy, but the very definition of
privacy states that it is in no way completely attainable, nor will it ever be. And why would people
want that when it has been proven that to achieve absolute privacy would mean to forfeit a place in
society (Nehf)? But in recent years, privacy infringements through the Internet have gotten out of
hand. Until privacy becomes a principal concern for Internet users, they remain unsafe, easy targets
for deceitful scammers, other users, data collectors, and more. There are many problems surrounding
the Internet and its current privacy systems, one of the biggest ones being the current user

between free speech and cyber bullying? Many schools and organizations observe signs of Cyber

further action. Privacy infringements through the Internet are publicly viewed as the work of evil, foul
criminals. But what if the person violating your privacy is your best friend? In many situations a
violation of privacy is an embarrassing wall post or a mean video or tweet. This is a specifically
hurtful instance because it is much more difficult to confront a friend instead of a faceless online
perpetrator. Moreover, many individuals are perfectly will to violate their own privacy through

Developing Countries Supporting Afghanistan As A...
Introduction
Afghanistan is a developing country; the country has faced troubles and difficulties soon after its
independence. They have had problems in the development of constitutions and regulations. The
selection of leader was an issue and one of the major tasks was to prepare military for the defence as
well as the protection of the state. In order to resolve all these issues, finance was the significant need.
Despite problems the country is upgrading slowly and gradually. There are numerous countries
supporting Afghanistan in terms of finance and monetary forms, but the support provided by
International Monetary Fund is significant. International Monetary Fund along with World Bank is
serving Afghanistan since its partition and they both have lent a huge sum of finance to the
government so that they can continue with the progress and prosperity of the state.
Considering the financial figures than according to the figures taken out by the Development
Assistance Committee of OECD, an approximate of twenty billion dollars was endowed to the state in
between 1960 till 2002. This is such a huge amount that assisted Afghanistan to rehabilitate its

Themes Of Urban Legends
Nowadays, the development of technology affects the way we search for the information. For
instance, stories that have been told only within families or small groups of people can now be
exposed to the internet, where these stories are shared amongst hundreds of people. Urban legend, by
definition, is a humorous or horrific story that people usually believe, even when there is no proof of
where it started from, or of the trustworthiness of that story. Urban legends have appealed to many
ranges of audiences since this genre tends to attract many individuals. For instance, college students
have taken an interest towards these legends, whether they like the strange stories or the actual
messages behind it. Urban legends have taught college students the themes, which are based on the
reflection of their conflicts or problems that they have dealt with. The two common themes of urban
legends that represent the problem that college students are dealing with are the conflicts between
college students and their professors and the paranormal and horror events that occur in their life.
There are many urban legends that have solutions to deal with the problems with their professors. The
first urban legend story, Do you know who I am? , was set in a large lecture classroom, where the
instructor could not remember all of his students. In order to turn in their exams, they had to show
their ID cards. There was a student who forgot to bring his ID on the exam day, and he was convinced

Purpose: To make observations about a burning candle in order to use the kinetic molecular theory to
explain how a candle works.
Materials: Wax candle, wooden splint, drinking straw, safety goggles, candle holder, matches
Method:
1. The required materials were selected and brought to the workstation.
2. A large diagram of the top 2 cm of the candle was drawn. The diagram was labeled with a brief
description of the wax
3. The candle was lit. The wax was observed at the wick.
4. The wooden splint was lit when there was a glowing ember.

a) Firstly, the candle burns due to the reaction of hydrocarbons (wax) and oxygen, releasing carbon
dioxide and water. During combustion, the fuel must be vaporized to accommodate the high
temperature of the flame. As a result, the liquified wax travels up to the wick and transforms into a
gaseous state due to an increase in temperature. Moreover, the wax changes state due to the particles
gaining kinetic energy and losing potential energy; they lose their attractiveness and spread apart from
another, creating larger spaces in between. Furthermore, the solid wax around the wick also changes
state to a liquid due to the heat given off by the flame. As a result, the candle wax particles increase in
kinetic energy, spread apart, lose attractiveness and locomotion is gained, thus the solid wax

The Universe Next Door Summary
We as human beings consciously and unconsciously take variables from our own lives to come up
with our own definition of a worldview. We make life decisions based on our morals and values that
we have put into place because of our views. These views are not always necessarily permanent but
always evolving. As we grow older, wiser, and have more life experiences one often re evaluates the
hard questions that helped their worldview evolve. During the seventeenth century, there were two
essentially Christian worldviews, theism and deism. In the book, The Universe Next Door, by James
W. Sire he talks about both theism and deism and explains their similarities and differences through a
series of worldview questions. According to Sire, a theistic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Sire believed that one factor which led to the development of deism was, a change in the location of
the authority of knowledge about the divine; it shifted from the revelation found in scripture to the
presence of reason (2009, p. 48). There are several propositions that offer some insight into the
worldview of a deist. One states, Human beings, though personal, are part of the clockwork of the
universe (Sire, 2009, p. 52). Deists recognize that humans have intelligence, a sense of morality, a
capacity for community and creativity. But, none of these, while built into us as created beings, in
grounded in God s character (Sire, 2009, p. 53). Another proposition states, Ethics is intuitive or
limited to general revelation; because the universe is normal, it reveals what is right (Sire, 2009, p.
56). Deism s ethics, in general, is founded on the notion that built into human nature is the capacity to
sense the difference between good and evil (Sire, 2009, p. 56). Many deists believe that the universe is
in a normal state and there was never the fall of man. Popular deism is popular in two senses. It is both
a simple, easy going belief in the existence of an omnipotent, impersonal, transcendent being, a force
of intelligence, and it is a vague belief held by

Physics Of Hot Air Balloon Experiment
Physics
The following report explains the results of a model hot air balloon experiment that replicates a
previous incident in which the temperature in the envelope was heated to a point until it was burned.
After assessing the researched and calculated data, the assertion of the air in the balloon becoming too
hot to lift the mass will be validated.
The physics related to the operation of hot air balloons is essentially the use of hot air to create a
buoyant force and generate lift. A hot air balloon is made of a large bag called the envelope, a wicker
basket or gondola hung underneath and a burner located beneath the hole in the envelope to heat the
air in the envelope. This heated air causes a buoyant force to occur (Edmonds, 2008).
When an object is submerged in a fluid, it appears to weigh less than when it is outside of the fluid.
The weight of the mass acts downwards, but when it is immersed in fluid, an upthrust or buoyant force
is exerted by the fluid upwards (Edmonds, 2008). The buoyant force occurs because the pressure in a
liquid or gas increases with increasing depth. Therefore, the pressure at the lower surface of a
submerged object is greater than the pressure at its upper surface.
Diagram 1 shows an object that has the same density as water. It is found that the object is in static
equilibrium, tending neither to rise nor sink (Nave, 2014). For this to happen, the downward
gravitational force must be balanced by a net upward force from the surrounding

Apple And Foxconn Case Study
Assessment 2 Case Synthesis: Apple and Foxconn
Introduction
The consumer electronics magnate Apple Inc. has been accused of labor abuse in its Asian supply
chain. The acquiescence of underage labor, excessive working hours and illegitimate low wage in
China based Foxconn factories is clear evidence of corporate social responsibility (CSR) omission. In
fact, such acquiescence is the result of an exploitation chain, with Apple at the top, Chinese workers at
the bottom and Foxconn in between.
Key issues
Low bargaining power and labor market disequilibrium
The inelasticity of labor supply curtails the bargaining power of workers and places them at a
disadvantage against their employer. Most of Foxconn employees are underprivileged and
consequently undereducated. The first feature deprives them of alternatives other than working to
support their families and the second pronounces that they are unqualified for many occupations other
than mechanical chores on the assembly line. This scarcity of options enables Foxconn to impose
harsh working schedule, cut wages and suppress the resistance of the tractable workers.

I weep for the liberty of my country when I see at this early day of its successful experiment that
corruption has been imputed to many members of the House of Representatives, and the rights of the
people have been bartered for promises of office (Andrew Jackson). Corruption and abuse of power by
aristocrats is the driving force of the plot in A Tale of Two Cities. In fact, it was the chief cause of the
French revolution. The book chronicles the enterprises of several revolutionaries, such as Madame

If I knew which rascal threw at the carriage, [...] he should be crushed under the wheels. (Dickens 85)
The actions and words of the Marquis vividly portray his character: a self centered, iniquitous, snob
who has zero interest in the welfare of others. Another specimen chronicled by the tale of the
aristocrat s utter indifference to the common people s plight is the lifestyle of the Monseigneur. While
the masses were starving from lack of food and poverty, the Monseigneur lived as though he were a
king. Yes. It took four men, all four ablaze with gorgeous decoration, and the Chief of them unable to
exist with fewer than two gold watches in his pocket, emulative of the noble and chaste fashion set by
Monseigneur, to conduct the happy chocolate to Monseigneur s lips. (Dickens 79) Therefore, we see
that the Monseigneur, too, had much the same attitude as the Marquis, and, as can be reasonably
inferred, he same attitude as the vast majority of the other aristocrats. Consequently, we can conclude
that nearly all of the aristocrats were corrupt in their ways.
In response to their cruel treatment by the aristocrats, the common people rebelled and began the
revolution, with the intent of deposing all of the corrupt aristocrats and their ways. However, the
revolution many of the common people corrupt themselves. For instance, while Madame Defarge

Such a broad spectrum of diverse habitats occurring within a single protected unit is unparalleled in
North America, and perhaps in the entire circumpolar north. (Arctic Refuge: Oil and Gas Issues). The
refuge is a delicate treasure there are few like it in the world and its existence is threatened. The
ecological makeup is one of a kind. The refuge contains five different ecological regions, which are
home to 45 species of land and marine mammal ranging in size form a pygmy shrew to a bowhead

of this are made at the Prunhoe Bay drill site where caribou actually use gravel pads and roads to
avoid insect attacks and are unaffected by human presence. But much of this information is miss

Rebel Battle Flag
The summer I spent at Harpers Ferry was the summer following the Emmanuel shooting in

course, could have in no way been able to come to this conclusion when they began flying the rebel

A few year ago, it used to be that fragrance would come out, slowly build up sales, and perhaps after
three or five years you would start seeing some attrition. Now a fragrance comes out and often by the
second year its either off the shelves or posting double digit declines in sales.
To make things worse, the perfume market is also suffering from slower growth than some other
segments of the beauty industry. L Oreal s fragrance division was its slowest growing cosmetics
business segment in 2005. Comparable perfume sales at the group rose 1.3% to $1.47 billion ($1.93
billion) in 2005, compared to growth of 8.9% for skincare and 5.6% for hair care. In France, the world
s largest perfume market, sales were flat in 2005. At U.S. department stores, sales rose 3% to $2.94
billion, according to market research firm NPD. The Luxury Brand Market Analysis is the only study
of wealthy consumer awareness and buying behavior of luxury women s fragrances. Wealthy
consumers mentioned Chanel (in the aggregate) as the most often recalled brand (unaided) when
asked which luxury fragrance brands come to mind. It was also the highest ranking brand for market
share, purchase consideration and most recent purchase. With the hundreds of choices wealthy
consumers have for luxury fragrances, it s a tribute to Chanel that their brand remains so dominant
within this coveted segment, said Milton Pedraza, CEO of the Luxury Institute. While

Faking Madness In Hamlet
Catching a murderer is a daunting task especially for a person as shrewd as Hamlet. In Shakespeare s
Hamlet, Hamlet, the young prince of Denmark, is still grieving his father s untimely death. Against
Hamlet s wishes, his mother quickly remarries to the king s brother. Hamlet soon discovers that his
father was murdered by his uncle, now the king, and Hamlet sets off to avenge his father. Hamlet
feigns his madness so he can fool the King and ultimately murder him.
Hamlet is faking madness to deceive everyone and distract them from his real plot. In Act 2,
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are interrogating Hamlet for the king, and Hamlet soon catches on to
this. Hamlet tells them, I am but mad north north west. When the wind is southerly I know a hawk

Hamlet promises to his father s ghost that he will avenge his unjust death. He says, Haste me to know
t, that I with wings as swift as meditation, or the thoughts of love, may sweep to my revenge (1.5.29
31). He wants the ghost to quickly tell him the murderer s name to he can get revenge. Hamlet is
outraged to find out that his father was murdered, especially that he was murdered by his own brother.
When Hamlet discovers this he devises a plan to pretend to be crazy to kill the king without suspicion.
In Act 3, Hamlet has a chance to kill Claudius, but he hesitates because Claudius looks like he is in
prayer. He says, A villain kills my father, and for that, I, his sole son, do this same villain send to
heaven (3.3.77 83). Hamlet s father was killed in his sleep, so his sins were not forgiven and he was
sent to purgatory. If Hamlet kills Claudius while he is praying, his sins would be forgiven and he
would go to Heaven. Hamlet is actively seeking out opportunities to kill Claudius, so he has to keep
up his facade of madness. Hamlet acts crazy so no one will be suspicious of him trying to kill the

How Did Gandhi Influence The Civil Rights Movement
The Civil Rights Movement was a very influential time in American history. During the 1950 s and 60
s, the fight for blacks trying to get equal rights commenced. Some say the beginning of the civil rights
uproar was on December 1st, 1955 when Rosa Parks, a black women, refused to move to the back of
the bus and got arrested in Montgomery, Alabama. Blacks, along with many whites, mobilized and
began a never done before fight for equality that spanned two decades. America was not the only place
where rights were a problem. Mahatma Gandhi was a indian activist. India wanted to gain rights from
britain and Gandhi was one of the leaders. He was a indian immigrant and traveled to South Africa,
when he arrived, he was startled at how poorly the

Analysis Of Lucille Clifton s The Poetry Of A Negro
I continue to write since my life as a human only includes my life as a poet, it doesn t depend on it ,
Lucille Clifton. Known to most as Lucille Clifton, Thelma Lucille Sayles was born to Samuel L. and
Thelma Moore Sayles on June 27, 1936 in Depew, New York. Her parents were a New York steel mill
worker and a homemaker/launderer and lived in poverty. Clifton overcame adversity and earned a
scholarship to attended Howard University at the age of sixteen as a drama major, then in 1955 she
transferred to Fredonia State Teacher s College now known as Fredonia State University of New York.
She was introduced to her husband by Ishmael Reed, an author, poet, and activist, who later took her
poems to Langston Hughes in 1966 to be included in his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Recurring themes in her poetry are embracing ancestors past, self discovery, reconciliation, the black
experience, self worth reassurance, female sensibility, and concerns of black women. Clifton s writing
style can be described as being moral and hopeful. Lucille Clifton empowers women and African
Americans throughout her poetry which shows the strength and beauty of the intricacies of her life.
Clifton s poetic style suggests that she doesn t like to follow the crowd . I also don t fit in with the
crowd because I view and act differently than the social norm. Hearing that Emmy Award winning
Lucille Clifton chooses not to conform to society either, I don t feel inadequate or substandard for
standing out. I embrace it. Clifton explains in an interview, why she uses lowercase letters, short
stanzas and around five syllables. She said, I use simple language. I have never believed for anything
to be valid or true or intellectual or deep it had to be complex. I deliberately use the language that I
use (Evans 137). This is reflected in her poems. In homage to my hips , from Good Woman: Poems
and a Memoir 1969 1980, you can see the tendency to adhere to as few syllables as possible, yet be
rich in wisdom. these hips are big hips they need space to move around in. they don t fit into little
petty places. these hips are free hips. they don t like to be held back.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children s main purpose is to prevent abductions or
kidnappings by providing viable information on missing children or adults. Most importantly, the
center assists in aiding the victimized families that have dealt with sexual exploitation, kidnapping or
abduction. So far, it has been successful, with a 94 percent recover rate which has improving since the
1980s. It is has assisted law enforcement in finding 71,000 out of 87,513 children between the years

Now, people are talking about installing facial recognition software in the police officer s body cams,
in order to receive information quicker by scanning the individual s facial features. These scanners are
capable of analyzing an entire city in order to find a match to the missing person. This will help build
a larger database which will help identify people easier. It is mentioned that 1 in 2 Americans are
already in the database. The question arises if this is legal or not, by going around scanning everybody
with no probable cause to do so. However, not many would argue the use of facial recognition if it was
used to find a missing person, especially an innocent child (Laperruque, 2016). It is important to note
that most movie depicted kidnappings rarely ever occur. In fact, it is mentioned on multiple sources
that only a 115 children are actually kidnapped every year by a stranger, but over 200,000 of them a
year face injuries, especially car accidents (Hoffman,

The Shouldr Joint
I am the shoulder joint but some people call me the glenohumoral joint. The shouldr joint is a ball and
socket type joint and is connected to part of the humerus and the scapula at the glenoid cavity. This is
the most mobile joint in the body, but also the most frequently injured. The rotator cuff, which is a
main component of the shoulder joint is often injured so research on how to efficiently heal that injury
is ongoing. The shoulder joint is extremely flexible compared to the rest of the joints in the body. This
flexibility is partly due to the fact that it is a ball and socket joint. By being a ball and socket joint it
means that it is capable of circumduction, angular, and rotational movement. It allows one s arm to
move up, down, to the right, to the left, and in a circle. Because it has a large range of movement, it is
unstable and easily damaged. To make up for this, it has many ligaments and tendons to keep it in
place. In addition, it also has the glenoid labrum which deepens the shallow glenoid cavity and makes
it more stable. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When this happens, it can very painful and even cause small, everyday things to hurt, lowering the
quality of life for someone. In some cases the tear is so severe that it causes pseudo paralysis, which
means that the patient has a very limited range of motion in their shoulder. Some ways to treat rotator
cuff injuries include physical therapy and surgery. There has been a recent study to find ways to make
the rotator cuff heal on its own. Some of these ways to improve tissue regeneration in the rotator cuff
include growth factors, platelet rich plasma (PRP), and stem cell( Randelli et al. 2014). Another
method that helps the rotator cuff is reverse arthroplasty, which relies on other muscles in the shoulder
to keep the placement of the shoulder because the muscles of the rotator cuff are no longer

Value of Education
Value of Education In his essay Is College Worth the Money? , Daniel S. Cheever, Jr. contends that,
The real question is whether students are getting their money s worth (102). He emphasizes the value
of education and not only the cost. Higher education is the focus of Cheever s essay, but I believe the
same question of worth can be asked concerning elementary through high school education as well.
Both public and private schools offer distinctive educational opportunities and each individual needs
to resolve the question of value. There are many facets that give value to an education; however, the
cost cannot be ignored. Parents make the initial choices for their children s education. The choice is
primarily based on economics, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Our school included them in the extra curricular activities offered which provided an avenue for
greater social interaction. Nevertheless, there appears to be value in the customized approach to
education that home schooling allows. Another aspect of valuing an education, in particular a college
education, is a monetary one. The earnings potential of receiving a college degree drives many
students to pursue a post secondary education. Cheever points out that college graduates are likely to
make much more money in their lifetimes than those with only a high school education (103). One
thing that needs to be factored into that calculation though is the amount of debt a student will have to
repay after graduating. Student loans usually have a 5% to 6% interest rate that adds up through the
years. For example, one of my cousins who graduated from college in 2000 is still repaying student
loans. Even though they may be earning a decent salary, in our current economy, it may make it more
difficult for a college graduate to purchase a home, have a family or save for retirement when
overloaded with educational debt. This issue makes a case that the cost of education may be too high
for those that cannot pay the tuition without going into debt. Students and parents should be expected
to pay for the largest portion of a college education; however, the costs need to be less

Reflective Essay Writing
The ability to write is a creative thing, so unique much like a fingerprint. The way someone decides to
choose their words and organize their sentences is something is solely based on their preference. From
English 105 with Segall, one obtains plenty of valuable knowledge that Will be used throughout their
college career. In the beginning, my writing was seen as immature and fresh from high school. Going
forth into a college setting was intimidating, and immediately showed that my writing skills needed
improvement. Spending countless hours on what I thought was a great piece of writing, I submitted
my rough draft of paper #1. Being told by Professor Segall that I need to do a ground up revision took
a toll on my confidence as a writer. I was uncertain of what exactly he was looking for and forced me
to reevaluate my whole thought process. Even though, that was hard to hear, I am glad I was told to do
so. My writing changed completely into something more sophisticated that also improved my fluency.
I did receive a grade that was average, but that grade was the starting point to continue to progress my
writing in his class. My second paper for his class was an argument, which I chose to write about the
shuttle at Regis. This time around my weakness was not immature writing with poor syntax, but
failure to describe. In the fourth paragraph I originally stated, Regis should promote the the idea of its
students fully being able to use its resources and be exposed to all

Ancient People And Agriculture
Ancient people set a building block that we today still build upon. There are many ways ancient
people have done this, such as developing spoken language and inventing farming/agriculture. I think
that farming and agriculture had the biggest impact of all on society, from ancient to modern times,
because it helped people have a permanent home, develop more specialized jobs, and create new
technologies.
Before I start talking about farming and agriculture, I will explain a little about the history of it.
Farming and agriculture began during the Neolithic Era, or the New Stone Age, about 10,000 years
ago, first in Southwest Asia. The reason farming and agriculture was now possible was because the Ice
Ages ended. The Ice Ages were when there were long periods of freezing weather. During this time,
the whole ground would be covered in ice, and the sea levels were very low. The water was so low
that strips of land, called land bridges, let people cross rivers, seas, and maybe even oceans. Then, a

They did not have to be busy chasing herds of animals around just to stay alive, because the
introduction of farming and agriculture gave the community enough food. Because of their new
permanent homes, this also allowed them to develop new things, such as pottery, weaving, and even
one of the most important tools, the wheel. Farming and agriculture also gave people more freedom,
because now, since there is a reliable source of food, farms, there was much more free time that they
could spend on hobbies. The food surplus also freed people to specialize in jobs. People who are
talented at something, could choose that job, so they could be as productive to the community as
possible. They could also choose a job that they enjoyed to do. Also, permanent homes led to villages
developing, which then led to towns and

10 Most Remarkable Posthumously Published Books
10 Most Remarkable Posthumously Published Books How to deal with an author s unpublished work
after death is a much debated issue. Many famous authors have had their works published after their
death, some with their blessings and others against their explicitly stated wishes. Nabokov didn t want
The Original of Laura to be released. He had instructed his son Dmitri in his will to destroy the
manuscript but Dmitiri wasn t inclined to obey, inciting a debate over which is more important an
author s last wishes or literary posterity. For better or worse, here are ten such remarkable works that
have been published after the author has passed on. 10. Suite Francaise by Irene Nemirovsky Died:
1942 Published: 2004 Suite Française is one of the great first hand novelistic chronicles of life in Nazi
occupied France. In July 1942, having just completed the first two of a planned sequence of five
novels, Némirovsky was apprehended as a stateless person of Jewish descent and deported to
Auschwitz, where she died. Her two small daughters escaped, along with the manuscript of Suite
Française in a small suitcase. Ironically, her elder daughter, Denise, kept the manuscript for fifty years
without reading it, thinking it was a journal, possibly too agonizing to read. In the 1990s, she made
arrangements to donate her mother s papers to a French war archive, and decided to check out what
her mother had written. She discovered, instead of a diary, two novellas written in a

  • 2. Anne Bradstreet s The Prologue Section One: The Prologue 208 09 Anne Bradstreet s The Prologue is generally considered one of her most vivid statements regarding her role in a Puritan society. This is a poem where she reveals who she is to her readers. Bradstreet is critical of those individuals who place restrictions on women s roles in society, especially in consideration of a female writer in a male dominated environment. In the first few stanzas Bradstreet talks about how her ability as a poet is not up to the task, unlike the work of men. This is implied when she mentions that Let Poets and Historians set these forth. My obscure lines shall not so dim their worth. Bradstreet goes further and mentions her lack of ability in writing and wishes she had the same ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the first lines of her poem she describes how a pilgrim reaches his goal. She references the pilgrim as a symbol of determination and perseverance to be followed, especially when hoping to attain a dream. Being a pilgrim herself, and living in a Puritan society, her audience was able to relate to her plight and feelings about the journeys that are taken throughout one s life. In this poem, Bradstreet uses her skills to compare the voyage to America from England to the journey a religious person is to take to Heaven from Earth. Now that the journey of the pilgrim has ended, he no longer has to endure the hardships of the trip to his destination, his dangers past, and travails done. However, in order to reach his destination the pilgrim has made sacrifices, like leaving things behind. Otherwise he wouldn t have been able to accomplish his feat, and therefore, to All cares and fears he bids farewell . Later one Bradstreet contemplates how the pilgrim has been successful in his achievement, and how she herself wanted to be part of such journey. Bradstreet sees herself in the image of the pilgrim, renouncing to the world in her way to Heaven. She feels tempted, but obeys the will of God. Bradstreet reminds others that while it is not easy to live a sinless life, the reward at the end is worth all the effort. She understands the difficulties of her plan, and longs to be at rest and soar on high among the blest. Although the journey is lengthy and arduous, Bradstreet realizes that there are still many years before she achieves her goal, years in which she will have to continue following the Commandments and struggling against the society she has been born in. Still, she continues her journey, weary, but hoping for rest, until the day she completes her voyage to eternal life in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How did pop art challenge beleifs in consumerism Essay How did pop art challenge beleifs in consumerism Introduction: In order to discuss pop art I have chosen to examine the work and to some extent lives of Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol who were two of the main forces behind the American movement. I intend to reflect the attitudes of the public and artists in America at this time, while examining the growing popularity of pop art from its rocky, abstract expressionist start in the 1950s through the height of consumer culture in the 60s and 70s to the present day. Roy Liechtenstein, (fig 1) was born in 1923 into to a middle class Hungarian family living in New York, there was no artists on either side of his family and throughout Liechtenstein s schooling there were no art ... Warhol moved to New York in 1948 49 where he started work as a graphic designer, creating adverts for fashion magazines such as Glamour, Vogue and Harper s Bazaar. Andy Warhol shot to fame and soon became highly respected as a commercial artist. Tina Fredrick, then art director of Glamour says She was thrilled by Andy s drawings but could not find a commercial use for them. She told him his drawings were good, but Glamour could only use drawings of shoes at the moment. The next day Warhol came back with 50 drawings of shoes footwear being an important part of his advertising career until the mid 1960s. In 1949 Harvey J Earl of General Motors pioneered Planned Obsolescence . He realised that by adding fashionable products when new trends come in older products would be discarded in favour of the latest fashion. This realisation changed consumerism forever and was the start of a consumer culture, which was to spread rapidly. In the 50s it was for the most part an American phenomenon due to the fact that they had the money and manufacturing productivity to make it possible, for example, the affluence of America meant that almost every family owned a car and food rationing was unthinkable while in Briton the opposite was ... • 5. American Imperialism In Australia Essay The reasons for colonisation by the Spanish in the Americas and the British in Australia had many similarities. These similar factors included, improving trade routes, expanding their colonies for wealth and power and obtaining new resources. In addition, both groups wanted to explore beyond their own country. However, there were also a few big differences. For example, the British used Australia for the keeping of convicts, due to the overcrowded prisons in their own country. They also wanted to claim the land, preventing settlement in Australia from other countries, such as the Netherlands (Dutch). The Indigenous in the Americas and Australia were forced to change their religious beliefs, and become Christians. The Aboriginals in Australia were sent to mission stations, and were made to forget their own beliefs and traditions, which were seen as nomadic to the British. The Indigenous people were thought to be inferior by the colonisers, and as a result, were the victims of injust treatment. • 7. David Grusin s On Golden Pond David Grusin is the composer for On Golden Pond. He was the composer for The Graduate and The Goonies which are films that I recognized but have not yet seen. I selected On Golden Pond because I had not heard of the movie beforehand. The 1980s was full of electronic music; however, this film featured no electronic pop. The film is only instrumental, and due to the fact, the film focuses on an older couple dealing with growing older and their time with a young man named Billy, I believe the score is appropriate. When looking at the theme from The Goonies, the use of piano and strings are apparent in both films. From the beginning of the film, the score was a peaceful piano piece that went along with the scenery. It was gentle and non threatening. There is a flute, or other woodwind, that joins the piano, and this is when a car is seen driving by. Later strings join the ensemble and the music all continues to be soft. There were few moments of conflict where the music fills with brass sounds and takes on a tense feeling. For example, when the main character goes for a walk in the woods, I appreciate that the music is heard throughout his walk, it sounds like a harp, other strings, and woodwind instruments. The audience can hear the leaves crunching and birds; however, when the music becomes faster and takes on lower pitches, one truly feels the man s stress of becoming lost in the forest. Implications Of Dual Language Immersion Dual language education benefits both English dominant students and English language learners with a goal of helping students to become bilingual, bicultural and biliterate. This paper will explore the Implications of Dual Language Immersion programs in US schools. While dual language education has existed in the United States for roughly two centuries, and it reached its height of popularity in the 1970s, the use of dual language education in public schools has declined significantly in recent decades due to legislative actions that have sought to limit its use. When used, dual language education is generally seen as a way to ensure that non English speaking students, or students who are not yet proficient in English, are given equitable opportunities to succeed in and complete their education. While schools and teachers may use a wide variety of dual language strategies, each with its own specific instructional goals, the programs are typically designed to simultaneously develop English fluency, content knowledge, and academic language the knowledge, skills, and cultural proficiencies needed to succeed in an academic program. Scientists believe that around 300 million years ago the seven continents we know today were once connected to each other to form one massive continent called Pangea. There is a lot of evidence that supports this idea. First of all, some continents have coastlines that would fit together like puzzle pieces. Secondly, there have been almost identical fossils found on different continents separated by miles of ocean. Lastly, similar glacier deposits are on four different continents. There is evidence that the shape of the continents coastlines were once connected. In Figure one I see that some continents coastlines look like they would fit together perfectly. It is almost like they are puzzle pieces. A good example of this would be the eastern coastline of South America and the western coastline of Africa. I can imagine these pieces of land sliding together perfectly. Another example is, Australia s southern coastline rotated to Africa s southeast coastline is. • 13. Haemolytic Anemia Research Paper In my opinion, based on signs and symptoms this patient suffers from hemolytic anemia, characterized by reduction in the number of circulating red blood cells, caused by accelerated destruction and removal of these cells from the bloodstream before their normal lifespan is over. When blood cells die, bone marrow produces more blood cells to replace them, however, in HA, the bone marrow does not make red blood cells fast enough to meet the body s needs. Many diseases, conditions, and factors can cause the body to destroy its red blood cells. This type of anemia can be inherited, where parents passed the gen to the child (hemoglobin defects, enzyme defects, membrane defects) or acquired, meaning it developed overtime (infectious diseases: hepatitis, streptococcus; medications such as acetaminophen, antibiotics, ibuprofen, interferon alfa procainamide). As of June 2013, there were a total of 192 parties participating in the Kyoto Protocol, Canada was no longer one of them. Canada was one of the first to sign the agreement, in 1998; more than 4 years later, Canada formally approved the Kyoto Accord, in 2002. This meant Canada would have to decrease its emissions, by 6% in comparison to 1990 levels (461 Mt), by the year 2012. Despite some efforts, Canada failed to meet these requirements and in fact increased total emissions by roughly 24% by the year 2008. Canada formally withdrew from the Kyoto Accord in 2011, avoiding penalties and future detriments. The withdrawal of Canada from the Kyoto ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the year 2000, before ratifying the agreement, they began with $500 million, in comparison to the total amount just three years later, $500 million is not a lot. Federal spending reached 1.7 billion in 2003, just one year after Canada ratified the Kyoto Protocol, and two years before the protocol took effect. If Canada had endured the agreement, it was believed to have cost over ten billion. Although we should be involved in saving the earth, the amount of money is too big of a price to pay, and we will never know how much it would take to reduce greenhouse gases to that of the agreement. The Kyoto Protocol does not benefit Canada because it is unfair, too costly, and now that the United States has withdrawn from the agreement, it can only be bad news for Canada. The Kyoto Protocol does not treat every country fairly. Canada has more to lose with the Protocol than other countries, and they should all be treated in the same way. Some of the world s largest polluters, such as China and India, are exempt from round one of the Protocol because they are seen as developing countries with more important issues to deal with. Secondly, Kyoto allows some industrialized countries, such as Russia and New Zealand, to make no cuts, and even permits some places, like Iceland, to emit more greenhouse gasses. The protocol will be unsuccessful and ineffective if every country is not on board. Finally, Canada will need to provide ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We make life decisions based on our morals and values that we have put into place because of our views. These views are not always necessarily permanent but always evolving. As we grow older, wiser, and have more life experiences one often re evaluates the hard questions that helped their worldview evolve. During the seventeenth century, there were two essentially Christian worldviews, theism and deism. In the book, The Universe Next Door, by James W. Sire believed that one factor which led to the development of deism was, a change in the location of the authority of knowledge about the divine; it shifted from the revelation found in scripture to the presence of reason (2009, p. 48). There are several propositions that offer some insight into the worldview of a deist. One states, Human beings, though personal, are part of the clockwork of the universe (Sire, 2009, p. 52). Deists recognize that humans have intelligence, a sense of morality, a capacity for community and creativity. But, none of these, while built into us as created beings, in grounded in God s character (Sire, 2009, p. 53). Another proposition states, Ethics is intuitive or limited to general revelation; because the universe is normal, it reveals what is right (Sire, 2009, p. 56). Deism s ethics, in general, is founded on the notion that built into human nature is the capacity to sense the difference between good and evil (Sire, 2009, p. 56). Many deists believe that the universe is in a normal state and there was never the fall of man. Popular deism is popular in two senses. • 35. Physics Of Hot Air Balloon Experiment Physics The following report explains the results of a model hot air balloon experiment that replicates a previous incident in which the temperature in the envelope was heated to a point until it was burned. After assessing the researched and calculated data, the assertion of the air in the balloon becoming too hot to lift the mass will be validated. The physics related to the operation of hot air balloons is essentially the use of hot air to create a buoyant force and generate lift. A hot air balloon is made of a large bag called the envelope, a wicker basket or gondola hung underneath and a burner located beneath the hole in the envelope to heat the air in the envelope. This heated air causes a buoyant force to occur (Edmonds, 2008). When an object is submerged in a fluid, it appears to weigh less than when it is outside of the fluid. The weight of the mass acts downwards, but when it is immersed in fluid, an upthrust or buoyant force is exerted by the fluid upwards (Edmonds, 2008). The buoyant force occurs because the pressure in a liquid or gas increases with increasing depth. Therefore, the pressure at the lower surface of a submerged object is greater than the pressure at its upper surface. Diagram 1 shows an object that has the same density as water. It is found that the object is in static equilibrium, tending neither to rise nor sink (Nave, 2014). In fact, such acquiescence is the result of an exploitation chain, with Apple at the top, Chinese workers at the bottom and Foxconn in between. Key issues Low bargaining power and labor market disequilibrium The inelasticity of labor supply curtails the bargaining power of workers and places them at a disadvantage against their employer. It took four men, all four ablaze with gorgeous decoration, and the Chief of them unable to exist with fewer than two gold watches in his pocket, emulative of the noble and chaste fashion set by Monseigneur, to conduct the happy chocolate to Monseigneur s lips. (Dickens 79) Therefore, we see that the Monseigneur, too, had much the same attitude as the Marquis, and, as can be reasonably inferred, he same attitude as the vast majority of the other aristocrats. Consequently, we can conclude that nearly all of the aristocrats were corrupt in their ways. In response to their cruel treatment by the aristocrats, the common people rebelled and began the revolution, with the intent of deposing all of the corrupt aristocrats and their ways. However, the revolution many of the common people corrupt themselves. For instance, while Madame Defarge started out with the intention of doing away with the aristocrats and their corrupt ways, she became a bloodthirsty serial killer ... The refuge contains five different ecological regions, which are home to 45 species of land and marine mammal ranging in size form a pygmy shrew to a bowhead whale. The refuge is also well known for polar, grizzly and black bear, wolf, wolverine, dall sheep, moose, muskox, and caribou. It is also home to 36 species of fish and 180 bird species (U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service). Perhaps the largest biological issue with drilling in area 1002 is the Porcupine caribou Herd. Drilling supporters argue that caribou are affected by the drilling operation. Examples of this are made at the Prunhoe Bay drill site where caribou actually use gravel pads and roads to avoid insect attacks and are unaffected by human presence. But much of this information is miss interpreted. Adult caribou are unaffected by drilling operations. But, cows and their calves are more sensitive during the first few weeks of calving (Caribou migration). They avoid human disturbance during this time, so drilling becomes an issue. The summer when the Governor and Legislature of South Carolina decided that it may not be such a good idea to be hoisting the banner of a group formed to kill the soldiers of the United States Army on American soil to establish a government guaranteeing slavery in perpetuity on the grounds of the state capitol might be seen as a endorsement of white supremacist violence. Said legislature, of course, could have in no way been able to come to this conclusion when they began flying the rebel battle flag, in 1961, as they were busy contesting school desegregation and with the concerning news that buses of Freedom Riders were being fire bombed and beaten by Klansman a few states away. The Parks Service had announced they would no longer sell the most recognizable symbol of the guys who killed a hundred thousand men fighting under the American flag to create a nation where white supremacy was safe from all challenge in affiliated gift shops. Some visitors were very concerned at this whitewashing of American history (which is funny because the history they preferred to discuss was typically very white). The shouldr joint is a ball and socket type joint and is connected to part of the humerus and the scapula at the glenoid cavity. This is the most mobile joint in the body, but also the most frequently injured. The rotator cuff, which is a main component of the shoulder joint is often injured so research on how to efficiently heal that injury is ongoing. The shoulder joint is extremely flexible compared to the rest of the joints in the body. This flexibility is partly due to the fact that it is a ball and socket joint. By being a ball and socket joint it means that it is capable of circumduction, angular, and rotational movement. It allows one s arm to move up, down, to the right, to the left, and in a circle. Because it has a large range of movement, it is unstable and easily damaged. To make up for this, it has many ligaments and tendons to keep it in place. Higher education is the focus of Cheever s essay, but I believe the same question of worth can be asked concerning elementary through high school education as well. Our school included them in the extra curricular activities offered which provided an avenue for greater social interaction. Nevertheless, there appears to be value in the customized approach to education that home schooling allows. Another aspect of valuing an education, in particular a college education, is a monetary one. The earnings potential of receiving a college degree drives many students to pursue a post secondary education. Cheever points out that college graduates are likely to make much more money in their lifetimes than those with only a high school education (103). One thing that needs to be factored into that calculation though is the amount of debt a student will have to repay after graduating. Student loans usually have a 5% to 6% interest rate that adds up through the years. For example, one of my cousins who graduated from college in 2000 is still repaying student loans. Even though they may be earning a decent salary, in our current economy, it may make it more difficult for a college graduate to purchase a home, have a family or save for retirement when overloaded with educational debt. This issue makes a case that the cost of education may be too high for those that cannot pay the tuition without going into debt. I think that farming and agriculture had the biggest impact of all on society, from ancient to modern times, because it helped people have a permanent home, develop more specialized jobs, and create new technologies. Before I start talking about farming and agriculture, I will explain a little about the history of it. Farming and agriculture began during the Neolithic Era, or the New Stone Age, about 10,000 years ago, first in Southwest Asia. The reason farming and agriculture was now possible was because the Ice Ages ended. The Ice Ages were when there were long periods of freezing weather.
