When You Are Old By William Butler Yeats
When You Are Old is a poem that was written by William Butler Yeats in 1891. It is a poem about a
person who wants to be remembered by those he loves. It is a story about dreams forgotten and
memories long gone. Yeats captured a feeling of longing in this poem that some people may never
understand unless they have a relationship that is more to them than any other relationship they will
ever have. When You Are Old talks about a woman who was loved by a man until he died. It is a story
of how a life should be remembered by a person who loved another. When You Are Old is about the
love of a man for a woman whom he had on a pedestal. He felt this woman was loved by many with a
true and deep love and loved by others with a false love. He felt this woman was loved much like
people today love celebrities. Yeats wrote about this woman as though he knew her intimately. He asks
her to slowly read, and dream of the soft look, Your eyes had once and of their shadows deep (Yeats).
He wants her to remember how things were in her youth. He wants her to remember her dreams and
think of how things were and how they may have been. Yeats is asking her to take her time and day
dream about her glory days. In the first lines of the poem Yeats describes this woman as old and grey
and full of sleep (Yeats). The speaker of the poem addresses his beloved saying that when she is aged
she should read a particular book which will remind her of her youth. She will remember the

Costco First Of The Warehouse Club Industry Essay
Costco first opened in 1976 as Price Club. At the time, it was located in a converted airplane hangar in
San Diego, California, servicing small businesses. Soon, it realized that opening its doors to non
business members would result in far better sales. Thus, the birth of the warehouse club industry came
to light. In 1983, the first Costco warehouse location opened up in Kirkland, Washington, near Seattle.
It quickly became the first company to ever grow to $3 billion in sales in under six years. Once it
merged with Price Club in 1993, becoming PriceCostco, there were 206 locations with $16 billion in
annual sales. In 1997 it resumed the Costco name, and in recent years has reached a total of $64
billion in sales each year. As the company continues to evolve, it still stays true to its attractive
qualities that have earned millions of loyal customers around the world. They have a commitment to
quality. By only carrying 4000 stocked units in the warehouse, compared to 30,000 at your local super
market, it can carefully choose its products. This insightful selection is based on quality, price, brand
and features. Therefore, having the ability to offer the ultimate best value to its members.

Freedom And Enslavement In George Orwell s Nineteen...
The novel Nineteen Eighty Four by George Orwell expresses many important themes that provide an
image of what society in the future would look like. The story is told through the eyes of Winston, a
member of the Outer Party who disagrees with the government. Winston is under the assumption that
everyone is corrupt. He thinks the government is enslaving the citizens of Oceania and taking away
their basic rights. The main theme in Nineteen Eighty Four is freedom and enslavement. The theme
freedom and enslavement changes dramatically throughout the story as the main character, Winston,
realizes what is occurring in the government. The more knowledge that Winston gets of his
surroundings, the more the reader discovers what is going on. ... Show more content on

They want to overthrow the government and get everyone in Oceania the freedom that they deserve.
Winston and Julia join the Brotherhood by talking to an Inner Party spy named O Brien. He is
working for the Brotherhood, but has close ties with people inside the Party. Winston and Julia do not
realize that O Brien is actually lying and has set a trap to get Winston and Julia in trouble with the
government. Winston and Julia are sent to a facility where they are tortured. At this point in the novel,
the government is losing grasp on its citizens. While Winston is in jail, familiar faces begin to appear.
Parson, Winston s neighbor, has been accused of Thoughtcrime (Orwell 239). The citizens of Oceania
are falling apart and can t stand being enslaved any longer. The government may think they have a
grasp on their citizens, but they do not. The Party quickly regains its control after they cure the minds
of Winston and Julia. Winston and Julia now believe that the Party is an ally and everything they do is

Essay on Power of Nuclear Energy
Abstract
The use of nuclear energy is a big topic for debate. Many countries have fully embraced it while
others, such as the U. S., haven t. Nuclear energy is feared for its danger and scorned because of its
wastes. On the other hand, nuclear energy does have some pros like cheaper cost of energy and
environmentally safe. Reactor breeders show great promise in nuclear waste, but are it enough to
convince the nation?
Introduction
Nuclear knowledge has existed for a long time. Nuclear Engineering U.S. Department of Energy
relates, ―By 1900, the physicists knew the atom contains large quantities of energy‖ (par 11). Many
others formed good theories, such as Ernest Rutherford and Einstein s contribution with his equation
E=mc^2. In 1934 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nuclear Engineering U.S. Department of Energy explains that, ― It [self sustaining chain] would
happen if enough uranium could be brought together under proper conditions‖ (par 19).
The result of all this talk was that in 1942 Fermi gathered scientists at the University of Chicago to
discuss their theories and possibly create a self sustaining chain reaction. By November of that year
they had constructed plans and were prepared to build this new model known as Chicago Pile 1.
Nuclear Engineering U.S. Department of Energy describes the model as, ―In addition to uranium and
graphite, it contained control rods made of cadmium. Cadmium is a metallic element that absorbs
neutrons. When the rods were in the pile, there were fewer neutrons to fission uranium atoms. This
slowed the chain reaction. When the rods were pulled out, more neutrons were available to split
atoms. The chain reaction sped up‖(par 21). In December of 1942 the scientists were ready to
demonstrate their hard work. This was a huge break through in the nuclear world.
Most of the early research done on nuclear energy consisted of trying to make nuclear weapons. The
experiments were performed in New Mexico under the name of the Manhattan Project. Their efforts
were a success with the creation of the first atom bomb. After World War II though, the use of nuclear
energy was turned more peaceful uses. In 1946 Congress created the Atomic Energy

The Effects Of Gangster Rap And Appropriation Of The West...
As N.W.A fell into the laps of the mainstream target audience: white, middle class, suburban males
and their angst filled teens, more problems began to arise regarding the misconceptions of gangster
rap and appropriation of the experience of black men in low income cities. Most of the rap that this
demographic would hear on the radio was the lighter Pop Rap of MC Hammer and The Fresh Prince
and Jazzy Jeff. According to GZA, the founder of the Wu Tang Clan, the label (Gangster Rap) was
created by the media to limit what we can say. We just deliver the truth in a brutal fashion...They don t
like that, so you hear ban this, ban that . We attack people s emotions. It s a real live show that brings
out the inside in people . But many people outside the scene just associated it with the violent rivalry
between the East Coast s Bad Boy Records and the West Coast s Death Row records that ultimately
resulted in the mysterious murders of The Notorious B.I.G. and 2Pac. However, when Efil4zaggin hit
number #1 on Billboard charts, the genre became more widely acknowledged and accepted by
mainstream audiences. Although, in a general sense, Fuck Tha Police was relatable to the Every Man
in it s dissatisfaction with unfairness it cannot be separated completely from it s specific context.
Although facing discrimination and brutality at the hands of cops was a common experience for
minorities, suburban America still refused to believe that this bias was happening. This track

Different Aspects That Go Into Making A Business...
There are many different aspects that go into making a business successful. Businesses need a strong
vision, great leaders within the organization, strong sales, a successful sales team, a steady stream of
revenue as well as a way to produce the revenue or sales coming in. Two important aspects of business
that are not always brought up, is profit and the cost to operate the organization. Often times managers
only look at the net profit or net revenue on their Profit and Loss statements without breaking down
the numbers or cost of doing business. Even if an organization is successful and has a great profit
margin at the end of the month, quarter or year, does not mean they do not need to analyze the cost of
the operations. Analyzing those costs cannot only help an organization become profitable, when they
are unprofitable, but can make them more profitable even if they show a healthy profit. Finding ways
to cut cost or become more efficient with the operations can lead an organization in the right direction
when it comes to their finances (Ahmed, S., 2016). When small businesses are involved they need to
pay close attention to their cost and controlling their cost. Profit planning is one way to manage cost
and use the budget to create ways for the managers to recognize how to work cheaper and more
efficiently. One small miss step with over purchasing or overages on production time or inventory can
cost a small business money, when this happens it can directly affect their

Spread Of Christianity Essay
Christianity began with the incarnation of Christ, He became a man. Then Christ was crucified and He
died. He died in the Roman Empire and since it was a cultural crossroad, many people heard of him.
After He died He came back to life, and He walked around for a couple days, and then He ascended
into heaven. Many people witnessed His death and many people witnessed Jesus after His
resurrection, and many were there to witness His ascension. The witnesses play a key role in the
beginning of the church. The beginning of era one was basically Christianity becoming a separate
religion from Judaism. Pentecost cost was another VERY important part in the spread of Christianity.

The events included; the stoning of Stephen, the scattering of believers throughout Judea and Samaria,
and the conversion of Saul. Another important event that occurred in era one was when God lead Peter
and others to proclaim salvation through Christ to the Gentiles. After the stoning of Stephen, the
church of Jerusalem was heavily persecuted and many believers scattered all throughout Judea and
Samaria and they preached the word everywhere they went. Many of the believers planted churches
where ever they went. Paul was a key role in the spread of Christianity. Paul would stay in a large
cities, spreading the word until it reached the smaller parts of the region. He also built churches all
throughout the region, and stayed with them until they were able to be on their own. Many
missionaries of that time would spread the word by reaching Jews. They often went to Jewish
synagogues. Later in the era, it was more popular to hear/spread the gospel in private homes, rather
than in synagogues. Antioch was the first place where believers were first called Christians, and this
was important because it separated Christianity from

How Did George Orwell Write Politics And The English Language
The English Language s Slight Decay The English language fascinates some people. It takes words
from other languages like Latin, Greek, and German putting in a different level than the rest. It
evolved a lot from how it was spoken in the past some words people stopped using and gets replaced
with new words. Now there are more people who understand English which makes it the third most
spoken language in the world, and people continue to learn it. Like every other language, people tend
to have bad habits with the language and rarely do others try and correct them. While others
manipulate the language to make their intentions less harmful. George Orwell saw people doing the
bad habits and manipulating the language back in 1945 and tried to show people their mistakes and
how to fix it in his essay Politics and the English Language. Orwell writes about the bad habits people

he talks about meaningless words like jargon or words that will mean something from person to

Cosmetology is a very artistic career. Cosmetology is the study and application and the beauty
treatment. Branches of specialty ranges anywhere between hairstyling, skin care, cosmetics,
manicures/pedicures and electrology. A person that is employed in this career would cut, style, dye
and wash their clients hair the way that the client wants it. Plus, they have the skills to do professional
manicures and pedicures with a special design if that is what the client wants. Most people believe that
a manicure or pedicure just consists of a professional just putting a design on either your toenails or

Development Of The Sports Broadcasting
Can you imagine a world in which the only way you could view a sporting event was if you actually

development of the Sports Broadcasting industry and more importantly the rights and regulations
associated with the industry set the pace to allow the world of sports media to advance to the point it is
at today. The main steps that were taken in this advancement include the development of technology,
the development of the Sports Broadcasting Act, and most importantly the progression of case law

This invention caused the sports broadcasting industry to explode, because in May of 1939 Princeton
and Columbia s baseball teams participated in the first nationally televised sporting event. From that
point on sports were changed forever, opening the doors for professional sports teams to capitalize on
the potential revenue that the broadcasting rights of their games could generate. Now that this business
was booming, the only issue was that it had no regulation outside of The Sherman Act. The Sherman
Act is a piece of legislation that prevents monopolies from forming and it helps competition continue
to thrive and be present in all markets. So this lack of regulation caused fans to be very limited in
terms of what teams they could watch play. In most cases, fans were only able to watch their home
team, which left few options for the fans, left little room for universal growth for the NFL, and most
importantly was breaking the antitrust laws. This issue of breaking antitrust laws is the most
prominent legal issue involved in broadcasting rights, and it had to be resolved in order to keep the
professional leagues from collapsing. Well, this issue came to a head in two court cases that will be
discussed in the case law portion of this piece. The result of these cases brought about the birth of the

It was around this time that WWE began to make major strides outside of the United States and

If you only look at the surface of something, you ll see what most people would see, but if you dig a

this applies. In the outer layer of the play, you will see it confirm the traditional roles in that era of
men and women, being that women are weaker and that men are the stronger sex. Throughout the
play, they put the idea that a woman with a strong will (Katherina) is bad, and compare her to many
taboo things, such as a prostitute. Few people think that Taming of the Shrew isn t sexist, but that

Notes On Rock Fracture Density And Permeability
4.3. Subsurface water considerations to research: 4.3.1. Rock Fracture Density and Permeability
Estimates Fracture density can be defined as the number of fractures per unit length, area or volume.
Fracture density is largely dependent on local bedding thickness and location relative to local faults.
Due to the mountainous nature of the Andes Mountains and the close proximity of Ocelot Mine to the
MFTB, the limestone host rock can be considered to have a heavy fracture density. Fractures also have
a strong influence on the permeability of a host rock. Permeability is a function of the transmissivity
of individual rock fractures as well as how the individual fractures connect together to form fracture
networks. The transmissivity of rocks in a specific environment is difficult to quantify; however, they
are largely dependent on the fracture aperture distribution. A mean aperture for limestone is 265
micrometers. The connectedness of a fracture network is strongly dependent on the spatial density of
fractures in a rock which can be quantified at the surface through detailed mapping or through the
subsurface by seismic travel times [2]. The Antmania copper zinc mine is located 100 km southwest of
the Ocelot lease area and is the closest mine to our location. Hydrogeological research done at
Antamina has revealed an average permeability value of 10 6m/s to 10 7m/s with local bedrock units
also displaying karstic features [3]. Cross referencing this information with

Inequality In Modern Society
It has almost been a decade since the financially crisis of 2008 sent the United States and global
economy on the edge of collapse. Even though the global economy didn t collapse millions of people
still lost their job, saving accounts, and homes. People all over the country were financially ruined and
many will never be able to reacquire their lost money. After the dust had settled from the housing
crises in 2008 the United States was able to rebound and strengthened its economy.
There was one thing that stood out from this disaster, not one top bank executive was tried or
convicted. Not one bank representative went to prison. It seemed the very wealthy individuals and
banks were immune to the housing crash. The government had no problem bailing out the banking
institution which brought on this crises. It had been made clear there was a significant inequality
between the wealthy and everyone else. The inequality difference between the rich and everyone else
is effecting more than the numbers in a bank account but also wear down the foundation of modern
societies.
In the article How Inequality Erodes the foundation of Modern Societies author Robert Reich, who is
chancellor s professor of public policy at the University of Californian, Berkeley, identifies the utmost
single greatest threat to Western democracies is extreme inequality of it citizens. He states, This is

Research Paper On Climate Change
Climate Change We are living on this planet as if we have another one to go to. (Unknown) This quote
by an unknown source depicts the common mindset of the modern human. At the start of the 20th
century America had had numerous major advancements in technology and business. These
advancements helped to put America ahead, but at a cost. Emissions of Carbon Dioxide, other
greenhouse gases and aerosols have been steadily increasing since this time period and show no signs
of stopping soon (How Do We Know..). What is the reason for this? Could it be that people do not
know what they are doing? Maybe people just do not care? Many persons in America will deny the
changing climate because they claim there are no facts or they do not believe in the facts that scientists
have come to find. The advancement of climate change through production of Carbon Dioxide,
greenhouse gases and overuse of aerosol products can be blamed on mankind s waste and disregard.
Carbon Dioxide, also referred to as Co2, is one of the adverse chemicals that has been contributing to
climate change for decades. The careless attitude and dangerous professions of humans are, almost
collectively, directly responsible for the ever rising Carbon Dioxide concentration in our air. By reason

The Story Of The Koa Tree
Step by step, breath after heavy breath, Mikey and I hiked our way up the Maka ula O oma trail. It
was a bit embarrassing that after lifting weights for the preceding four months we were still winded by
the moderate size hill. We took a break half way up but this was no wasted break. I found an opening
off the path and noticed a Koa tree about three feet high. Then I turned to Mikey and said, this is the
reason we came up here. Is that a Koa tree? I remember him asking before I explained to him how it
most definitely was, however, as they reach maturity they take on a different form. We were there in
search for the great elders, towering in stature with leaves resembling a crescent. After my explanation

We were about to leave before coming across four bottles littered on the ground. The bottles were
gross looking and things were already beginning to grow on it. We didn t want to bring these with us
through the rest of our adventure. So I thought, what would the ancient Hawaiians do? And as I raised
my head my sights were locked on a tea leaf plant. I walk over, thank the plant, and pick a couple of
leaves from it. I then ripped each leaf in half and began to bundle up the bottles and tie them together.
Two bundles were easier to carry than four bottles so we carried them to the fork in the trail and left
them there until we got back from our journey. We were back on track, making our way down the left
route. I was hopeful but discouraged for the first couple hundred feet, with Mikey taking the lead
pointing at every different plant asking Is that a Koa tree? I rebuttal by saying, we literally saw one
like ten minutes ago. To no surprise his curiosity or his inner child proceeded with the questions. One
tree exposed itself after the other until it seemed as all the trees bordering the trail became Koa trees. I
was dragging my jaw on the floor as I slowly walked under the chattering giants all wearing orange
coats around their trunks. Seed pods began to envelope the forest floor so much that Mikey and I lost
each other for a while foraging on the trail. We soon got more than a hundred seeds so decided to just

Ottoman Disadvantages and its Implications on The Siege of...
Under Suleiman the Magnificent the Ottoman Empire was a force to be reckoned with, it ruled the
Middle East and Suleiman was quickly realizing his goal of advancing into Europe. However in 1529
a major military upset in the Austrian city of Vienna would halt the Islamic Ottoman expansion and
save Europe from the possibility of Ottoman control. However this might not had been the case if it
were not for several key disadvantages the Ottoman Empire had against the Viennese. Suleiman the
Magnificent s defeat during the siege of Vienna, 1529, was caused by poor weather conditions, chaos
and disorganization amongst the Ottoman ranks, and a much stronger Viennese defense than was
anticipated.

This divided Hungary into two states, Royal Hungary and Ottoman Hungary, this division lasted until
1700.
In the spring of 1529 Suleiman the Magnificent began to construct his massive army in Ottoman
Bulgaria, his objective is to conquer and secure control over all of Hungary and eliminate the threat
posed by Ferdinand I and the Holy Roman Empire. Estimates of the size of Suleiman s army vary
vastly from around 100,000 men to well over 300,000. The army also consisted of many units of
Sapahi, the elite Ottoman Calvary, and thousands and thousands of Janissaries, an extremely well
trained Ottoman fighting force. With such a vast group moving all at once there were certain inherent
difficulties the Ottomans faced. The biggest of these would be the sheer chaos caused by the
disorganization. Desertion was particularly rampant amongst the Ottoman forces and with the
disorganization it was nearly impossible to properly distribute resources, malnourishment was a big
problem because of the difficulty of acquiring food. This would mark a major disadvantage of the
Ottoman morale; it diminished their will to fight, and thus, their will to win.
Suleiman launched his campaign on May 10th, because this was so late in the year, the weather was
almost immediately a problem. The spring rains associated with that area of Europe caused flooding

Analysis of Frost s Poem, Mending Wall Essay
People keep an emotional distance between one another to prevent others from getting too close to
them. Robert Frost in the poem Mending Wall shows the reader an example of two different kinds of
people. One kind of person is open to the idea of friendship and is willing to make an effort to try to
dissolve any conflict, and try to get along with someone else anyway possible. Then there is the other
side which is against the idea of change, someone who is closed to the idea of something new and
against breaking down social barriers. Yet both sides seem to find their common ground meeting at the
wall.
Mending Wall by Robert Frost displays the seasonal routine of two neighbors who are constantly
mending a wall which separates their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their dedication and commitment to the wall shines through when reading how persistent these men
are about keeping it well intact. However, even though both men take great care of the wall, the
welcome necessity for keeping the wall there and intact is not shared by both neighbors, but the
neighbor opposing the idea of the wall uses this time to socialize with his neighbor and tries to
convince him that this time spent repairing the wall is as foolish and unnecessary as having the wall
left there in the first place. You take notice that during this spring mending time the two neighbors are
not only completing a joint task, but they are also building some form of a relationship. If this
relationship was not willingly made between the two neighbors they would not repeat their routine,
time and time again.
As the poem goes on, it clearly shows that even though the two men are conversing and working
together, there is always some distance between them at all times. The poem even states that on a day
we meet to walk the line and set the wall between us once again. (14 15) It shows that even though
between both men there is a small link of friendship, that the one neighbor still wishes the wall to be
intact to be left alone so he can have his own personal space.
As the poem continues it begins

Augustus Caesar Biography
Augustus Caesar (63 BCE 14 CE) was the name of the first and, by all accounts, greatest emperor of
Rome. Augustus was born Gaius Octavius Thurinus on September 23, 63 BCE. He was adopted by his

Gaius Octavius, he changed his name to Gaius Julius Caesar Octavian, upon being adopted by his

Rome. Augustus married three times, although his first union, to Mark Antony s stepdaughter Clodia

became more complicated after Augustus had his stepson Tiberius briefly marry his daughter, and then
adopted Tiberius outright as son and successor in A.D. 4. Augustus Caesar died in A.D. 14, his empire
secured and at peace. His reported last words were twofold: to his subjects he said, I found Rome of
clay; I leave it to you of marble, but to the friends who had stayed with him in his rise to power he
added, Have I played the part well? Then applaud me as I exit. Soon after that acknowledgement of
human frailty, the Roman Senate officially declared their departed emperor, like Julius Caesar before

in population, and urbanization which has seen the emergence of many large cities throughout the

economic opportunities in the cities and political changes. During the late eighteenth and early
nineteenth centuries, a number of European families started moving to the Middle East and North

also Copts left Egypt during the 1950s and 1960s. In the Middle East, the creation of Israel initially
saw many European Jews moving there, with many North African Jews moving to Israel after the Six

Arguments In Dealing With Dragons
While reading the novel, Dealing with Dragons , by Patricia C. Wrede, one could ask if someone like
Cimorene, a princess in the story, should be justified if they go against what expectations are made of
them and why that should ever be approved of. However, Cimorene was completely justified in
ignoring the social norms of her day because it is very clear that she was never content with being a
princess in that kingdom, she was only truly happy in living an improper life away from her heredity,
and she is far more intelligent than most men, yet she is still treated like a lesser human being while in
her kingdom that proves to only be keeping her behind from accomplishing great things. In the novel,
Dealing with Dragons , it is made very clear that Cimorene immensely loathes being a princess in the
Kingdom of Linderwall because of the social norms that she is forced to abide by. The author states,
Then what, exactly is your problem? ... This! Cimorene gestured at the castle around her. Embroidery
lessons, and dancing, and and being a princess! . This event occurs when Cimorene fairy godmother
comes to the castle for a visit. Cimorene blatantly states that everything involved in her life is exactly
her problem and because that, one can find that she was justified to run away from a life that she
despises. Furthermore, this shows that Cimorene had a motive to run away from what would be an
inexorable marriage because of her parents and that she never wanted to hurt

How does class conflict affect society and what are its consequences?
As Karl Marx once said:
In class society, everyone lives as a member of a particular class, and every kind of thinking, without
exception, is stamped with the brand of a class.
In this essay we will be discussing the affect class conflict has on society from the 1600 s up until the
modern world today. We will be discussing how Karl Marx developed his theory of class conflict and
look at the different areas of society and how it effects individuals.
To define it, class conflict is a tension or strain among individuals in society due to socio economic

The evolution of the new lower middle classes in the 1980s has resulted in a group of people who are
no longer offered a voice. Traditionally the Labour party, in standing up for the working class, has
also, as a result stood up for the impoverished underclass as well. But now that Labour stands for the
new middle classes there is no one standing up for the ones Thatcher left behind. There is no conflict
today not because everyone is contented but because they have had their voice taken away.
A consequence of class conflict is income inequality. Even though class status is not a casual factor for
income, surveys have shown, those in higher classes have higher incomes rather than those in lower
classes. This inequality still exists in occupation. Conditions at work vary greatly between classes. The
individuals in the upper middle class enjoy a relaxed work environment with a good salary and receive
respect from fellow employees and society in general but lower middle class however lack in job
satisfaction and tend to feel more alienated. While middle class workers may suffer alienating
conditions or lack of job satisfaction , blue collar workers suffer alienating, often routine, work with
obvious physical health hazards, injury, and even death .

Robotic-Assisted Hysterectomy Essay
Hysterectomy is one of the commonest gynecologic procedures, with approximately 600,000 women
undergoing this procedure annually in the United States for various indications.9
Robotic assisted hysterectomy has gained widespread acceptance in many centers since U.S. Food and
Drug Administration approval in 2005. Several reports on the early experiences with robotics for
endometrial cancer surgery suggest potential advantages over traditional laparoscopic surgery,
including improved surgeon ergonomics, high definition three dimensional visions, and wristed
instrumentation that improves surgical precision.10The overall postoperative morbidity and
complications inherent in both techniques are nearly the same
Our study design contributes to the evaluation of the effect of the robotic assisted hysterectomy in
comparison to laparoscopic hysterectomy for the treatment of either endometrial hyperplasia or

The Big Two Beloved River By Ernest Hemingway
Naturalism is an extension to realism that is often much harsher and more unforgiving. There are
many criterion that determine whether a text falls under the category of naturalism. Ernest
Hemingway s mastery of the naturalistic style is evident in his many works as he expertly applies the
many different elements. It is clear that his work falls under the naturalist genre through looking
specifically at his short story The Big Two Hearted River . Though Naturalism is a big part of
Hemingway s writing, one would be remiss to simply stop their analysis on the naturalistic elements
of the story. The Big Two Hearted River goes against the traditional naturalist element of determinism
through the use of the main character s search for recovery ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Objectivism is a technique used where the author excludes most, if not all, of the character s past and
identity so that the character becomes a simple observer. In The Big Two Hearted River , the reader
knows very little about the character Nick in order to focus more on the plot and what happens to the
character, rather than the character themselves (Zhang 2.2). The objectivism of Nick in the story goes
a step further. Hemingway s focus on the characters actions demonstrates how Nick s technique allows
him to move beyond the deterministic world to create his own purpose. Hemingway only includes
information about Nick to help the reader understand what he is trying to achieve. Nick took him by
the head and held him while he threaded the slim hook under his chin, down through his thorax and
into the last segments of his abdomen. The grasshopper took hold of the hook with his front feet,
spitting tobacco juice on it. Nick dropped him into the water (Hemingway 191). Much of the story is a
series of descriptions of Nicks actions much like the example given above. There is not much focus on
the characters thoughts or feelings. Nick s actions are the most important part of the story because
they align themselves with his purpose; to systematically and ceremonially kill, out of necessity rather
than for no reason. Nick reconnects with nature throughout the text, but instead of nature having
control over the consequences of his actions, he is the one who controls the outcome. This goes
against the traditional naturalistic style where characters hopelessly battle against nature and no matter
what they do cannot achieve their goal because nature is stronger and determines the outcome of their
actions. Nick s appearance, age or health have very little to do with the Hemingway s idea of how to
become more masculine , for him men must first use proper technique in order to create meaning

Framing Muslim Women
These are just a few of the conditions imposed on Muslim women. What is potentially even more
harmful is Islam s obsession with (female) sexual morality. (Pg no 62)
Peter Morey and Amina yaqin in their book Framing Muslims also have pointed out the ways by
which Muslims are being sterotyped.
Ahmed,Sidrah(2014) in his research paper tries to investigate the representation of muslim women s

Its there since the crusades but after 9/11 this stereotyping has increased. These stereotypes and
misconceptions about Islam are due to the media, prejudice, and ignorance. Islam is considered as an
extremist or terrorist religion. The reports against Islam are due to ignorance and lack of knowledge. In
contrast to what the media portrays, Islam is a peaceful religion, which does not promote violence or
terrorism.
Ridouani,D(2011) in a research publication outlined the ways in which Muslims and Arabs are
conceptualized by the western media with a drastic effect on its people. As she points out
The main concern will focus on the analysis of the distorted images, fabricated views,

to some particular incidents chiefly the Gulf War, the bombing of Oklahoma and the bombardment of

She carried out research on different movies, articles, books and cartoons and then concluded that

Trickster Tales Coyote said let s play a game of dice. This is a quote taken from the trickster tale
entitled Coyote Steals Fire. In this story Coyote asked this question to the Thunder God to play a game
dice to trick him in playing to win the fire. My stories i choose to compare and contrast between

In the trickster tale Coyote Steals Fire and MasterCat the similarities they shared were they all had to

wanted to be like no other cat he wanted wealth. Coyote Steals Fire uses anthropomorphism case he
talks, walks, dresses himself, and gambles. Master Cat he walks on hind legs, talks, and he s cunning.

The Themes Of Hope And Freedom In The Shawshank Redemption
In the film, The Shawshank Redemption directed by Frank Darabont, symbolism was used to
highlight the main idea of holding onto hope. Darabont has effectively used different symbols
throughout the film to convey the themes of hope and freedom in Shawshank. Remember Red, hope is
a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies. This quote said by Andy Dufresne
in a letter to Red shows that Shawshank was portrayed as a place of hopelessness at the start. But it
was through the use of these symbols, music, the library, and the birds, that made the viewer truly
understand how Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies. Music
was used as a symbol in Shawshank to show the importance of ... Show more content on

This symbol was firstly shown used through Jake the crow. Jake was a very close friend of Brooks. He
had taken care of Jake ever since he had found it with an injured wing and nursed it back to health.
Jake was used as a symbol in the film to highlight the theme of hope, as Jake was found by Brooks
with an injured wing after it had fallen out of its nest. Jake shows that hope was still present even in
the darkest of times in life. Later on in the film, we see that Brooks was released from prison because
of parole. This lead to Brooks releasing Jake before leaving prison and represents Brooks letting go of
any hope he has of surviving life in the outside world. He symbolically looks for Jake while feeding
the birds in the park, thinking he just might show up and say hello. Sadly, he neither finds Jake nor
hope outside of prison. Brooks could not cope with the world outside of prison as he was
institutionalised and results in him committing suicide. Another instance of birds being used as a
symbol was after Andy escaped Shawshank prison. Red symbolizes Andy as being a caged bird in
prison when he says, Sometimes it makes me sad, though... Andy being gone. I have to remind myself
that some birds aren t meant to be caged. Their feathers are just too bright. And when they fly away,
the part of you that knows it was a sin to lock them up does rejoice. But still, the place you live in is

Leadership Style Of Leadership Styles
Leadership styles vary amongst every person in a leadership role. Styles may be categorized as
authoritarian, procedural, transformational, participative and laissez fair. Following an assessment of
my own leadership style (How to find your style of leadership, 2016) it appears that my style of
leadership is characterized as laissez faire. I m a leader who is not formally recognized but rather
involves the entire team and makes informed decisions based on group ideas, discussions and team
decisions. The amount of control I typically have is low and I expect my team to contribute ideas and
decisions but ultimately, I am responsible for the final decisions and the success or failure. Assessment
Results I was absolutely not surprised by the results of my assessment. By nature, I am more of a
follower than a leader. This assessment proved my theory to be correct. I am hesitant in making
uniformed and risky decisions professionally as well as personally. I have always relied heavily on a
team of people I can trust and to help me make informed choices. Perhaps I lack self confidence in my
decision making skills, so I lean on others for guidance and support. The personal feeling of
disappointing someone is overwhelming me to the point where I am afraid to make any decisions
without help from another source. I understand I am human and humans make mistakes. The point of
mistakes is to learn from them. However, it is still hard to deal with disappointing someone on an

Master of None is an American comedy drama television series streaming on Netflix since 2015.
Creators Aziz Ansari and Alan Young successfully demonstrate relatable situations in a charming and
humorous manner. The show stars Ansari as the lead role of Dev, a 30 year old actor who attempts to
make his way through life in New York City both professionally and personally. Episode 2, Parents,
presents second generationers Dev and Brian (Dev s chill friend) trying to show their appreciation for
their immigrant parents at a joint family dinner.

Farewell Papaji begins with Hasmukh trying to have sex with his wife at 12:30 in the morning because
his father in law is sleeping. However, as he tries to wake up his wife, their dog, Bobby, bites him.
Hasmukh falls to the floor and his father in law rushes into Hasmukh s bedroom and asks what
happened. But he is more worried about the dog than his son in law: This house is causing [Bobby] a
lot of psychological damage. This scene places Hasmukh at the bottom of the family hierarchy, in
which the dog gets more respect than him. After the mini introduction the episode airs the title
sequence, introducing the cast members and theme song. Majority of the cast is Asian, just like the
cast members of Master of None. The difference between Master of None s title sequence and Brown
Nation s title sequence is that Brown Nation has a theme song. There are no words to the song, but the
sounds can be described as Indian beats. Once all the members are introduced, the final part of the title
sequence is a picture of Hasmukh holding a vase of flowers and sitting directly under a photograph of
President Barack Obama, and two American flags. This visual portrays Hasmukh as an Indian, but
also as an Indian American struggling to keep his life together or even fit in New York City, just like

The Devil And Tom Walker Imagery Analysis
Imagery is used to help create a more imaginative and well developed story. These stories started to
become more popular during the time of the Romantic and Transcendentalist. Washington Irving was
an extremely popular author during this time, who was also an author that stretched and tested the
limits of past authors styles, as well as creating his own new style. Washington Irving s short story The
Devil and Tom Walker is a retelling of a Germanic Faust legend. In the story Tom Walker finds
himself in a deep in the forest and comes face to face with the Devil. The Devil tries to make an
agreement with Tom, this agreement will make Tom extremely rich. Tom ruminates over the choice he
is given. His wife avidly wants him to accept the proposal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Irving theme in this short story is that all action have consequences. In the story Tom tries to trick the
Devil by becoming more pious that others who have religious their entire lives. However, it does not
work, because one day the Devil comes back for Tom holding a black horse, which neighed and
stamped with impatience (Irving 359). This small segment of imagery supports the theme, because the
horse is anxious and impatient as if it has waited a long time to be here and take Tom away to what he
deserves. The reader can imagine a horse that is rearing and ready to go. It demonstrates that even if
Tom protected himself for a little while the Devil still came back to dispense the consequences for the
deal he and Tom made together. Tom worked as a usurer to gain a large fortune that he wanted, just so
he could flaunt it in an ostentatious manner. However he wanted to get this money easily by bartering
with the Devil to find an agreement that made him rich quickly. He did get this money but he suffered
consequences because of it, and when the black horse swept him away all of his earthly treasure
disappeared as well. All his bonds and mortgages were reduced to cinders , his chest of gold and silver
was filled with chips and shavings , and where his two horse were two skeletons lay in his stable
(Irving 359). He was never able to enjoy the money he made, because of the actions he took to gain it.
On the other hand, Tom never did enjoy his money, because of his stingy nature. Tom wanted all the
money he could get his hands on, but he never wanted to spend a dime. In addition with the added fear
of the Devil coming at any time Tom was always on edge and at peace. He made a deal with the Devil
and the Devil made him suffer the consequences of his actions. Old Scratch and his black horse
carried him off after Tom agonized under the unknown time the Devil s return.

The Role Of Russian Government
In today s society, countries in the world are expected to provide support and freedom to residing
citizens. Democratic governance plays a strong hand in citizen representation, and is necessary for
citizens to have a voice in their government. While some countries have a smooth operating system,
many still do not. The country of Russia is under very strict control by current President, Vladimir
Putin. Many citizens of Russia want change, however, their efforts are muted by government officials.
With lack of transparency and accountability, Russian citizens are unaware of what is actually
happening in the government. Russian citizens have few individual rights that are upheld by the
constitution. While the country has worked hard to move ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Government actions are often secretive, canceling out the idea of transparency for citizens. Often
times, positions of power or wealth in Russia have the ability to hide fraud in the system from citizens.
(Kasparov, Garry, 2007). Citizen s do not have the option to challenge unfair governmental practices
or have information provided of governmental proceedings. This reduces the amount information
citizens see and know about within the government.
While individual rights in Russia are outlined in the constitution, often times these rights are not
protected. Citizens have the ability of freedom of religion, which is one freedom stated in the
constitution they do have. Other freedoms, such as: same sex marriage, or gender discrimination are
not stated. There are currently no laws supporting or denying same sex marriage in Russia.
Homosexuals can openly serve in the military, however, it is illegal for them to wed. Women in Russia
are subject to domestic violence, sexual harassment, and rape with minimal chance of prosecution for
the accused. Women struggle finding jobs in Russia, with the fear their presence will be lacking in the
home. (Beschastna, Tatyana). The information provided allows the inference to be made that
individual rights are minimally or not at all protected. While citizens are allowed certain liberties in
the constitution, often times these laws are not upheld. Individuals

  • 2. When You Are Old By William Butler Yeats When You Are Old is a poem that was written by William Butler Yeats in 1891. It is a poem about a person who wants to be remembered by those he loves. It is a story about dreams forgotten and memories long gone. Yeats captured a feeling of longing in this poem that some people may never understand unless they have a relationship that is more to them than any other relationship they will ever have. When You Are Old talks about a woman who was loved by a man until he died. It is a story of how a life should be remembered by a person who loved another. When You Are Old is about the love of a man for a woman whom he had on a pedestal. He felt this woman was loved by many with a true and deep love and loved by others with a false love. He felt this woman was loved much like people today love celebrities. Yeats wrote about this woman as though he knew her intimately. He asks her to slowly read, and dream of the soft look, Your eyes had once and of their shadows deep (Yeats). He wants her to remember how things were in her youth. He wants her to remember her dreams and think of how things were and how they may have been. Yeats is asking her to take her time and day dream about her glory days. In the first lines of the poem Yeats describes this woman as old and grey and full of sleep (Yeats). The speaker of the poem addresses his beloved saying that when she is aged she should read a particular book which will remind her of her youth. She will remember the ... We climbed down the handles to the basement, and looked for mysteryman. We found him sitting in a corner, holding a clipboard and wearing glasses. We slowly approached him, not trying to startle him, and hoping we could talk to him. I went and poked his shoulder, afraid he might get angry or scared. He turned around calmly, and looked at both of us before attempting to speak. Haohheohaohhheoaoaohheoahoheoahhheohoooahahheeoeoa. he said, not realizing that we couldn t understand him. • 4. Costco First Of The Warehouse Club Industry Essay Costco first opened in 1976 as Price Club. At the time, it was located in a converted airplane hangar in San Diego, California, servicing small businesses. Soon, it realized that opening its doors to non business members would result in far better sales. Thus, the birth of the warehouse club industry came to light. In 1983, the first Costco warehouse location opened up in Kirkland, Washington, near Seattle. It quickly became the first company to ever grow to $3 billion in sales in under six years. Once it merged with Price Club in 1993, becoming PriceCostco, there were 206 locations with $16 billion in annual sales. In 1997 it resumed the Costco name, and in recent years has reached a total of $64 billion in sales each year. As the company continues to evolve, it still stays true to its attractive qualities that have earned millions of loyal customers around the world. They have a commitment to quality. By only carrying 4000 stocked units in the warehouse, compared to 30,000 at your local super market, it can carefully choose its products. This insightful selection is based on quality, price, brand and features. Therefore, having the ability to offer the ultimate best value to its members. Nuclear energy is feared for its danger and scorned because of its wastes. On the other hand, nuclear energy does have some pros like cheaper cost of energy and environmentally safe. Reactor breeders show great promise in nuclear waste, but are it enough to convince the nation? Introduction Nuclear knowledge has existed for a long time. Nuclear Engineering U.S. Department of Energy relates, ―By 1900, the physicists knew the atom contains large quantities of energy‖ (par 11). Nuclear Engineering U.S. Department of Energy explains that, ― It [self sustaining chain] would happen if enough uranium could be brought together under proper conditions‖ (par 19). The result of all this talk was that in 1942 Fermi gathered scientists at the University of Chicago to discuss their theories and possibly create a self sustaining chain reaction. By November of that year they had constructed plans and were prepared to build this new model known as Chicago Pile 1. Nuclear Engineering U.S. Department of Energy describes the model as, ―In addition to uranium and graphite, it contained control rods made of cadmium. Cadmium is a metallic element that absorbs neutrons. When the rods were in the pile, there were fewer neutrons to fission uranium atoms. This slowed the chain reaction. When the rods were pulled out, more neutrons were available to split atoms. The chain reaction sped up‖(par 21). In December of 1942 the scientists were ready to demonstrate their hard work. This was a huge break through in the nuclear world. Most of the early research done on nuclear energy consisted of trying to make nuclear weapons. The experiments were performed in New Mexico under the name of the Manhattan Project. Their efforts were a success with the creation of the first atom bomb. After World War II though, the use of nuclear energy was turned more peaceful uses. In 1946 Congress created the Atomic Energy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. The Effects Of Gangster Rap And Appropriation Of The West... As N.W.A fell into the laps of the mainstream target audience: white, middle class, suburban males and their angst filled teens, more problems began to arise regarding the misconceptions of gangster rap and appropriation of the experience of black men in low income cities. Most of the rap that this demographic would hear on the radio was the lighter Pop Rap of MC Hammer and The Fresh Prince and Jazzy Jeff. According to GZA, the founder of the Wu Tang Clan, the label (Gangster Rap) was created by the media to limit what we can say. However, when Efil4zaggin hit number #1 on Billboard charts, the genre became more widely acknowledged and accepted by mainstream audiences. Although, in a general sense, Fuck Tha Police was relatable to the Every Man in it s dissatisfaction with unfairness it cannot be separated completely from it s specific context. • 9. Different Aspects That Go Into Making A Business... There are many different aspects that go into making a business successful. Businesses need a strong vision, great leaders within the organization, strong sales, a successful sales team, a steady stream of revenue as well as a way to produce the revenue or sales coming in. Two important aspects of business that are not always brought up, is profit and the cost to operate the organization. Often times managers only look at the net profit or net revenue on their Profit and Loss statements without breaking down the numbers or cost of doing business. Even if an organization is successful and has a great profit margin at the end of the month, quarter or year, does not mean they do not need to analyze the cost of the operations. Analyzing those costs cannot only help an organization become profitable, when they are unprofitable, but can make them more profitable even if they show a healthy profit. Finding ways to cut cost or become more efficient with the operations can lead an organization in the right direction when it comes to their finances (Ahmed, S., 2016). When small businesses are involved they need to pay close attention to their cost and controlling their cost. Profit planning is one way to manage cost and use the budget to create ways for the managers to recognize how to work cheaper and more efficiently. One small miss step with over purchasing or overages on production time or inventory can cost a small business money, when this happens it can directly affect their ... Now there are more people who understand English which makes it the third most spoken language in the world, and people continue to learn it. Well, that s how the world used to be at the turn of the 20th century. The development of the Sports Broadcasting industry and more importantly the rights and regulations associated with the industry set the pace to allow the world of sports media to advance to the point it is at today. This invention caused the sports broadcasting industry to explode, because in May of 1939 Princeton and Columbia s baseball teams participated in the first nationally televised sporting event. From that point on sports were changed forever, opening the doors for professional sports teams to capitalize on the potential revenue that the broadcasting rights of their games could generate. Now that this business was booming, the only issue was that it had no regulation outside of The Sherman Act. The Sherman Act is a piece of legislation that prevents monopolies from forming and it helps competition continue to thrive and be present in all markets. So this lack of regulation caused fans to be very limited in terms of what teams they could watch play. In most cases, fans were only able to watch their home team, which left few options for the fans, left little room for universal growth for the NFL, and most importantly was breaking the antitrust laws. In the outer layer of the play, you will see it confirm the traditional roles in that era of men and women, being that women are weaker and that men are the stronger sex. Throughout the play, they put the idea that a woman with a strong will (Katherina) is bad, and compare her to many taboo things, such as a prostitute. • 18. Notes On Rock Fracture Density And Permeability 4.3. Subsurface water considerations to research: 4.3.1. Rock Fracture Density and Permeability Estimates Fracture density can be defined as the number of fractures per unit length, area or volume. Fracture density is largely dependent on local bedding thickness and location relative to local faults. Due to the mountainous nature of the Andes Mountains and the close proximity of Ocelot Mine to the MFTB, the limestone host rock can be considered to have a heavy fracture density. Fractures also have a strong influence on the permeability of a host rock. Permeability is a function of the transmissivity of individual rock fractures as well as how the individual fractures connect together to form fracture networks. The transmissivity of rocks in a specific environment is difficult to quantify; however, they are largely dependent on the fracture aperture distribution. A mean aperture for limestone is 265 micrometers. The connectedness of a fracture network is strongly dependent on the spatial density of fractures in a rock which can be quantified at the surface through detailed mapping or through the subsurface by seismic travel times [2]. The Antmania copper zinc mine is located 100 km southwest of the Ocelot lease area and is the closest mine to our location. Hydrogeological research done at Antamina has revealed an average permeability value of 10 6m/s to 10 7m/s with local bedrock units also displaying karstic features [3]. • 19. Inequality In Modern Society It has almost been a decade since the financially crisis of 2008 sent the United States and global economy on the edge of collapse. Even though the global economy didn t collapse millions of people still lost their job, saving accounts, and homes. People all over the country were financially ruined and many will never be able to reacquire their lost money. After the dust had settled from the housing crises in 2008 the United States was able to rebound and strengthened its economy. There was one thing that stood out from this disaster, not one top bank executive was tried or convicted. Not one bank representative went to prison. It seemed the very wealthy individuals and banks were immune to the housing crash. The government had no problem bailing out the banking institution which brought on this crises. It had been made clear there was a significant inequality between the wealthy and everyone else. The inequality difference between the rich and everyone else is effecting more than the numbers in a bank account but also wear down the foundation of modern societies. In the article How Inequality Erodes the foundation of Modern Societies author Robert Reich, who is chancellor s professor of public policy at the University of Californian, Berkeley, identifies the utmost single greatest threat to Western democracies is extreme inequality of it citizens. (Unknown) This quote by an unknown source depicts the common mindset of the modern human. At the start of the 20th century America had had numerous major advancements in technology and business. These advancements helped to put America ahead, but at a cost. Emissions of Carbon Dioxide, other greenhouse gases and aerosols have been steadily increasing since this time period and show no signs of stopping soon (How Do We Know..). However this might not had been the case if it were not for several key disadvantages the Ottoman Empire had against the Viennese. The army also consisted of many units of Sapahi, the elite Ottoman Calvary, and thousands and thousands of Janissaries, an extremely well trained Ottoman fighting force. Then there is the other side which is against the idea of change, someone who is closed to the idea of something new and against breaking down social barriers. In this essay we will be discussing the affect class conflict has on society from the 1600 s up until the modern world today. We will be discussing how Karl Marx developed his theory of class conflict and look at the different areas of society and how it effects individuals. The evolution of the new lower middle classes in the 1980s has resulted in a group of people who are no longer offered a voice. Traditionally the Labour party, in standing up for the working class, has also, as a result stood up for the impoverished underclass as well. But now that Labour stands for the new middle classes there is no one standing up for the ones Thatcher left behind. There is no conflict today not because everyone is contented but because they have had their voice taken away. A consequence of class conflict is income inequality. Even though class status is not a casual factor for income, surveys have shown, those in higher classes have higher incomes rather than those in lower classes. This inequality still exists in occupation. Conditions at work vary greatly between classes. The individuals in the upper middle class enjoy a relaxed work environment with a good salary and receive respect from fellow employees and society in general but lower middle class however lack in job satisfaction and tend to feel more alienated. While middle class workers may suffer alienating conditions or lack of job satisfaction , blue collar workers suffer alienating, often routine, work with obvious physical health hazards, injury, and even death . Class also has an effect on one s lifestyle which includes leisure activities which reflects the attitude and values of the person. Therefore the way in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Robotic-Assisted Hysterectomy Essay Hysterectomy is one of the commonest gynecologic procedures, with approximately 600,000 women undergoing this procedure annually in the United States for various indications.9 Robotic assisted hysterectomy has gained widespread acceptance in many centers since U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval in 2005. Several reports on the early experiences with robotics for endometrial cancer surgery suggest potential advantages over traditional laparoscopic surgery, including improved surgeon ergonomics, high definition three dimensional visions, and wristed instrumentation that improves surgical precision.10The overall postoperative morbidity and complications inherent in both techniques are nearly the same Our study design contributes to the evaluation of the effect of the robotic assisted hysterectomy in comparison to laparoscopic hysterectomy for the treatment of either endometrial hyperplasia or endometrial cancer. • 41. The Big Two Beloved River By Ernest Hemingway Naturalism is an extension to realism that is often much harsher and more unforgiving. There are many criterion that determine whether a text falls under the category of naturalism. Ernest Hemingway s mastery of the naturalistic style is evident in his many works as he expertly applies the many different elements. It is clear that his work falls under the naturalist genre through looking specifically at his short story The Big Two Hearted River . Though Naturalism is a big part of Hemingway s writing, one would be remiss to simply stop their analysis on the naturalistic elements of the story. The Big Two Hearted River goes against the traditional naturalist element of determinism through the use of the main character s search for recovery ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Objectivism is a technique used where the author excludes most, if not all, of the character s past and identity so that the character becomes a simple observer. In The Big Two Hearted River , the reader knows very little about the character Nick in order to focus more on the plot and what happens to the character, rather than the character themselves (Zhang 2.2). The objectivism of Nick in the story goes a step further. Hemingway s focus on the characters actions demonstrates how Nick s technique allows him to move beyond the deterministic world to create his own purpose. Hemingway only includes information about Nick to help the reader understand what he is trying to achieve. Nick took him by the head and held him while he threaded the slim hook under his chin, down through his thorax and into the last segments of his abdomen. The grasshopper took hold of the hook with his front feet, spitting tobacco juice on it. Nick dropped him into the water (Hemingway 191). Much of the story is a series of descriptions of Nicks actions much like the example given above. There is not much focus on the characters thoughts or feelings. Nick s actions are the most important part of the story because they align themselves with his purpose; to systematically and ceremonially kill, out of necessity rather than for no reason. Nick reconnects with nature throughout the text, but instead of nature having control over the consequences of his actions, he is the one who controls the outcome. This goes against the traditional naturalistic style where characters hopelessly battle against nature and no matter what they do cannot achieve their goal because nature is stronger and determines the outcome of their actions. Nick s appearance, age or health have very little to do with the Hemingway s idea of how to become more masculine , for him men must first use proper technique in order to create meaning ... The Themes Of Hope And Freedom In The Shawshank Redemption In the film, The Shawshank Redemption directed by Frank Darabont, symbolism was used to highlight the main idea of holding onto hope. Darabont has effectively used different symbols throughout the film to convey the themes of hope and freedom in Shawshank. Remember Red, hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies. This quote said by Andy Dufresne in a letter to Red shows that Shawshank was portrayed as a place of hopelessness at the start. Jake was a very close friend of Brooks. He had taken care of Jake ever since he had found it with an injured wing and nursed it back to health. Jake was used as a symbol in the film to highlight the theme of hope, as Jake was found by Brooks with an injured wing after it had fallen out of its nest. Jake shows that hope was still present even in the darkest of times in life. Later on in the film, we see that Brooks was released from prison because of parole. This lead to Brooks releasing Jake before leaving prison and represents Brooks letting go of any hope he has of surviving life in the outside world. He symbolically looks for Jake while feeding the birds in the park, thinking he just might show up and say hello. Sadly, he neither finds Jake nor hope outside of prison. Brooks could not cope with the world outside of prison as he was institutionalised and results in him committing suicide. Another instance of birds being used as a symbol was after Andy escaped Shawshank prison. Red symbolizes Andy as being a caged bird in prison when he says, Sometimes it makes me sad, though... • 45. Leadership Style Of Leadership Styles Leadership styles vary amongst every person in a leadership role. Styles may be categorized as authoritarian, procedural, transformational, participative and laissez fair. Following an assessment of my own leadership style (How to find your style of leadership, 2016) it appears that my style of leadership is characterized as laissez faire. I m a leader who is not formally recognized but rather involves the entire team and makes informed decisions based on group ideas, discussions and team decisions. The amount of control I typically have is low and I expect my team to contribute ideas and decisions but ultimately, I am responsible for the final decisions and the success or failure. Assessment Results I was absolutely not surprised by the results of my assessment. By nature, I am more of a follower than a leader. This assessment proved my theory to be correct. I am hesitant in making uniformed and risky decisions professionally as well as personally. I have always relied heavily on a team of people I can trust and to help me make informed choices. Perhaps I lack self confidence in my decision making skills, so I lean on others for guidance and support. The personal feeling of disappointing someone is overwhelming me to the point where I am afraid to make any decisions without help from another source. The reader can imagine a horse that is rearing and ready to go. It demonstrates that even if Tom protected himself for a little while the Devil still came back to dispense the consequences for the deal he and Tom made together.
