The Role Of Contemporary Education On A Sustainable Global...
Introduction (519 words)
The 21st century has marked the importance of bringing up urgent, but complex problems involving
significant threats to all humanity, such as global warming, pollution, and ozone depletion. Never
before had it been so critical to analyse the environmental degradation and to join all the nations
forces in order to build a sustainable global society which is meant to be based on respect for nature,
universal human rights, economic justice, and a culture of peace (The Earth Charter Commission,
1992, p. 1).
The planet needs us to be culturally responsive (Greenwood, 2014, p. 279) citizens of the world, so
that in the age of substantial anthropogenic ecological impacts (Greenwood, 2014, p. 282) our
teaching and pedagogical goals correspond to the understanding of an ecological perspective on the
very well being of the planet in the future. Therefore, the role of contemporary education is to
transform the past observations and insufficient teaching methods to be flexible and broadly inclusive
underpinned by the concept of Education for Sustainability (EfS).
However, at first, we have to understand our own society and the era we have been living in for almost
two decades. In the year 2000, a new geological term for the modern civilisation emerged in the
academic literature: the Anthropocene. The author of the term, the Nobel Prize winning atmospheric
chemist Paul Crutzen, defines the Anthropocene as a new phase in the history of both humankind and

Native Americans In New France
During the beginning of the colonization period within America, many Europeans were escaping their
lives in Europe. America delivered Europeans from the social, political, and economic inequality.
They no longer had to feel apprehension from the crop famines. They finally had a chance of freedom.
When Europeans first encountered Native Americans, they saw them as the exemplification of
freedom. Even though colonists desired freedom, they felt that Native Americans had the wrong type
of freedom. They thought they were too free and lacked the structure that civilization provided.
Because of the multitude of Natives in America they had no choice but to live around them, but the
treatment of the Natives between the French and the English were vastly ... Show more content on

Considering the small white population compared to the mass amount of Natives in North America,
the French depended on good relations with Native Americans. The main person to blame the good
relationship between the Natives is Samuel de Champlain, who founded the region of New France. In
contrast to the usual ideals of Europeans, Champlain insisted on religious toleration for all Christians
and denied that Native Americans were intellectually or culturally inferior to Europeans, (Foner 38).
He imagined creating a civilization where people of multiple cultural backgrounds can live together
peacefully. For the most part he was successful. Native Americans life within New France were quite
different compared to New England. Native Americans were more involved in the Atlantic economy
due to their involvement in the fur trade. Cultural exchange and intermixing was quite normal in New
France, métis, children of Indian women and Frenchmen, became traders, guides, and interpreters.
More French embraced Native lifestyle, than Natives embracing the French lifestyle. Even though it
was encouraged for Natives to adopt French lifestyle with the incentive of French

Why Do Businesses Manage Data And Use Graphics
Lesson 10 Essay Why do businesses manage data and use graphics to reveal their overall performance
standings, and what type of graphics, tables, or charts should one use to share communicating
quantitative information to their business customers that s not only effective; but easy to understand?
Businesses manage data in order to review, and share information received by others; which are
displayed by usage of certain graphs that indicates ones performance levels in certain areas. However,
before you can interpret data, the elements must be classified, summarized, and condensed into a
manageable size; while the condensed information is meaningful and can be used to answer your
research questions (Lehman, Dufrene, Walker, 2014, p. 169). The purpose for using these type of
elements is to display your findings in a way that others can relate to, by simply compiling all the data
into a readable analysis technique through the usage of a computer. However, it takes careful planning
as to what graphics to use, depending on what results you and the customers are currently searching
for. That s why there are certain steps to follow when gathering the necessary information before
selecting the right format to put into existence for others to view. The first step is to gather the
information from the survey, then input it into the computer system; so it can be categorized by
importance. This system allows it to be broken down into sections, then divided into categories; by

Management Of A Learning Management System ( Lms ) For The...
This paper serves as an expansion of previous analysis on use and management of a Learning
Management System (LMS) for the U.S. Army Chaplain Center and School. First, we ll consider
specific learning assets that will be implemented. Next, treatment will be given to the modality of the
assets in our courses. We ll analyze specific curriculum objectives and relate those to specific assets.
Attention will be given to the relationship between some key stakeholders and asset management as
well. Finally, we ll take a look at how these assets enhance the goals of the course. Blackboard Learn,
our LMS, supports a wide variety of media and hypermedia to support our learning goals. Virtually all
of our courses will, in some way or another, utilize presentations, videos, lectures, and quizzes. All of
these are certainly compatible. Presentations can be helpful for those with a strong preference for
visual learning. Presentations are best utilized asynchronously so students can review them at a time
of their choosing. Presentations can also be transformed fairly easily into study guides or job aids
depending on the content and how it is presented, such as Adobe s portable document format (PDF).
PDF s are a fairly ubiquitous file format that can present visual information fairly well. There are tools
for more visually stimulating presentations as well. The Prezi presentation located at

purchase imported products or domestic products. This study will also serve as source and guidance
for future research, not only Namibian retailers as well as the two accompanying companies may also

I will also gain some knowledge regarding ethnocentrism of Namibian dairy consumers.

Time management would be the number one problem that will hinder the researcher from completing
the study successfully. The feedback from the respondents may also be biased as they may give false
information.

Analysis Of The Supervisor s Claims About Jeanette Landis
In order to confirm that the supervisor s claims about Jeanette Landis are true, I would need to discuss
her performance, in regards to her sales, with the sales department or the department that is in charge
of this certain information. Even though Mr. White accuses Jeanette of not reaching her sales goals, all
the facts and data need to be reviewed in order to determine if the information provided is accurate in
terms of her performance. The human resource director cannot assume anything, approach all
situations with caution, and be unbiased when determining the best action to take. When firing and
employee, the human resource manager should be consistent and thorough when investigating the
claims in order to prevent a discrimination lawsuit (Dunn, 1991, p. 26). Therefore, the sales records of
Jeanette Landis need to be reviewed in order to determine if the allegations present by Mr. White are
accurate. When taking with the supervisor of the sales department, I would want a copy of Jeanette s
sales as well as a few other employees sales records in order to accurately compare the sales data
information. The sales supervisor should give a timeline for the data, so that I could fully comprehend
her sales. For example, the supervisor needs to give me some insight into how many months the sales
records are for; whether it be two months or six months. This information is critical because Mr.
White claims that she has not meet her sales goal in six months, so I would

Understanding Pro Social Behaviour Among Humans ( Cikara )
The ability for an individual to recognize another s suffering and experience the same emotions to
some extent is common in order to promote pro social behaviour among humans (Cikara, Bruneau,
Van Bavel, Saxe, 2014). This ability to empathize with others begins early on and is motivated by the
need to alleviate the distress in another when they are suffering. As noted by de Waal (2008), empathy
occurs quickly and automatically as a way to respond to the emotional states of others, in turn being a
major part of social interactions, coordinated activity, and cooperation toward shared goals. Thus, de
Waal (2008) discusses the three different levels of empathy, among which are emotional contagion,
sympathetic concern, and empathic perspective taking. Firstly, emotional contagion is simply about
automatic sharing as the individual takes on the emotional state of another even without any
understanding of the other (de Waal, 2008). Next, de Waal (2008) suggests sympathetic concern is
when an individual attempts to understand and reduce distress in the other (i.e. comforting behaviour),
as there is knowledge that the response is about the other. Lastly, empathic perspective taking occurs
when an individual is dependent on imagination and mental state attribution as it is entirely about the
other and separate from the self (de Waal, 2008).
There is much research done to suggest that there are failures in peoples ability to empathize (Cikara
et al. 2014; Brown, Bradley, Lang,

Myers Briggs Type Indicator ( Mbti )
Myers Briggs Type Indicator
The Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is used to identify an individual s psychological
characteristics the personality. This assessment coincides with Carl G. Jung s theory that objectives
and drives of a person ascribes to the individuals course in life (Schustack, 2012).
Isabel Briggs Myers and Katharine Briggs developed the Myers Briggs Type Indicator by
concentrating on the principles of Jung s theory. According to the Myers Briggs Foundation, Jung s
theory is described as, random variation in the behavior that is actually quite orderly and consistent,
being due to basic differences in the ways people prefer to use their perception and judgment (The
Myers and Briggs Foundation, n.d).

My temperament coincides with the general description of an ESFP. More often than not I am
extremely outgoing and entertaining. Although I give my best performances in crowds I am the most
comfortable in group of family or close friends; I often find myself the center of attention. Usually
there is a group of my peers congregated around me listening to a story or insight to an issue. At times
this can be a burden, however this occurrence is a rarity.
I also tend to jump from one topic to the next, finding it hard to stay on track with one story.
Sometimes this can leave the listener confused or frustrated. However by the end of the conversation,

Little did anyone know, these next few days are going to be very tragic for everyone around. The
tragic starts with Jude Charles, the new guy. He moved to a different town and he now attends Rome

Jude Charles that made everyone admire him. Every student found him as a great leader and was

came up with the best plan to get this monster out of Romania s hair forever. The next day they started
their plan in English class which they shared with Jude Charles. They both sat directly behind him so
the teacher could not see the girls. They started to make disruptions in class. They make funny noises,
and even threw papers everywhere until the teacher noticed and saw that the disruptions were coming
from the area of Jude Charles, so it had to be him. The teacher then sent him to the principal s office.
The girls followed him there and once again sat behind him in the office and did the same activity. The
principle stated that if he continued he would be expelled and would have to find a different school.
Bailey and Cassie knew that this was going to be their chance to get him away from Romania, so they

Henry V Theme Of War
Known as one of the greatest warrior kings in all of English history, Henry V has left a hefty
impression. In Shakespeare s play of the same name, the monarch battles literally with France for the
throne and figuratively with accountability and being a just ruler and conqueror. Through the story, we
can see the values Henry holds and how the real implications of war aren t something the king cannot
deal with in a proper manner. The debate between King Henry and the common soldiers like Williams
and Bates illustrate fundamental problems with Henry s rule and asks important questions about the
motives behind war itself. In Act 4, Scene 1 of Shakespeare s Henry V, the king does incognito in a
cloak to interact with the everyman of his army. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He ignores the responsibility of the king for putting all these lives in danger. He denies the fault of the
king for waging the war, and instead deflects the blame onto the will of God. Basically, his response to
the soldiers is that they must be spiritually prepared when they go into battle because the king is not
responsible for their deaths. This is a believe that is horribly ignorant and unfair to the people who
might actually lose their lives. When the king conquers the French port on the mouth of the Seine, he
insults them and states that God is on their side. Eventually, he implies that the French should feel
badly for being responsible for the death of their many citizens at the hands of English. However, the
same doesn t apply for himself when he could be leading his men to their deaths. This might be
because he thinks God s favor lies with England but it is of course foolish and hypocritical to believe
this. Using religion as a shield is a method Henry uses throughout the play, stating the kingdom of
England has God on their side on multiple occasions. This aversion of guilt continually demonstrates
Henry s doubt in himself and fragile

What Is The Theme Of The Danger Of A Single Story
The TED Talk The Danger of a Single Story by author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie talks about how a
single story can leave a permanent impression on the recipient about a certain topic. This can cause an
impossibility for the recipient to see the topic as anything else but how the author portrayed it. One
example of this thesis that Adichie used was from her childhood. Adichie states: So, the year I turned
eight, we got a new house boy ... The only thing my mother told us about him was that his family was
very poor ... All I had heard about them was how poor they were, so that it had become impossible for
me to see them as anything else but poor. . This example effectively supports her thesis because it
shows that since she had only ever been told a single story of the boy s family, poverty, it was an
impossibility for her to see him and his family as anything else but poor. ... Show more content on

Adichie states: My American roommate was shocked by me. She asked where I had learned to speak
English so well ... She assumed that I did not know how to use a stove ... Her default position toward
me, as an African, was a kind of patronizing, well meaning pity. My roommate had a single story of
Africa: a single story of catastrophe. In this single story, there was no possibility of Africans being
similar to her in any way, no possibility of feelings more complex than pity, no possibility of a
connection as human equals. . This example effectively supports her thesis because it shows that since
her roommate had only ever been told a single story of Africa, catastrophe, that it was an impossibility
for her to see Adichie as an equal to her, and it was an impossibility for her to see Africa as a place
similar to America, or a place that had anything other than

Father and Son Bernard Maclaverty Father and Son is a short story which is set in a time of war and
ends in the death of one of the main characters. Bernard Maclaverty transfers real life problems in the
story. The main theme of the story is father trying to communicate with his son but cannot do so. Due
to the techniques used by the writer we get an idea that the end of the story is going to be tragic which
is moreover supported by the nature of the characters. This story is set in a small house in the city of

The father sees gun under the son s pillow but when he asks about the gun, the sun shouts out: It s
none of your fucking business Then the father slams the bedroom s door to shut out the father. Due to
the father s knowledge of his son having a gun, this is a nice example of how far the communication
between the father and son has broken down. The end of the story is very touching as the son dies. The
irony there is the father thinks that the son is talking to his friends while he is actually being murdered
by them. When he sees his son falling down he rushes towards him. He notices a hole below the son s
nose which should not be there, a hole made by a bullet passing through it and blood was coming out.
The father can only hold his son when the son is dead: My son let me put my arms around you. The
father s worst nightmare has occurred and there will be no further opportunity to speak to his son and
sort out their relationship. The father now expresses his feelings but still fails to communicate as the
son is dead. But, the father succeeds in communicating an important message to the audience which is
to sort out our problems before it is too late. Bernard MacLaverty does not give the FATHER and the
SON any names as they represent all fathers and sons. The writer is telling us that all families have
problems. The story has universal

Willie Maxwell II, known professionally as Fetty Wap. It was April of 2014 when Maxwell II
uploaded the track Trap Queen, which quickly became the anthem of the summer (John). By the end
of summer, Trap Queen had reached eleven million plays on SoundCloud, which led to a record deal

musician Skrillex, hip hop rapper Post Malone, and house musician Kygo.
In contrast, Spotify s direction is to provide its listeners with songs for everyone of life s moment.
Spotify accomplishes this goal by creating playlists for specific genres and moods. For example, such
playlists include Country, R amp;B, Rock, Holidays, Good

users to access Spotify from anywhere through the use of mediums like

Abstract: The content and the organization of work represent dimensions which do not only involve
mobilizing competencies but are also dimensions in which competencies are developed. In an
organization people create, accumulate or transfer knowledge, ideas, values, attitudes, feelings or

If we refer to organizations and learning we must also mention what Reg Revans called Active
Learning, a method used for personal training, training specialists and organizational learning.
Grouped in small teams (named active learning groups) people approach important and learn from
achievements in order to change things. Active learning includes four elements: the person itself, the
active learning group, the respective problems and the measures taken in order to solve the problems
which allow learning. The set of values that organizations work with and which constitutes the subject
of learning is a complex one and has determined theoreticians to establish conceptual hierarchies of
knowledge. The model of the five levels 15 that we present below reflects the progressive
accumulation of the value of the data as they turn into competencies (see figure 1). Therefore, it is
obvious that the data are a priori than isolated elements. When elements are placed into context and
combined within a structure, the information acquires higher values. The information acquires new
meanings by interpretations and assimilations, thus turning into knowledge. On this level, information
is placed inside a mental structure and can be consciously used, for

Lack of development in countries in the so called `Third World has many political and economical
reasons. Historians explain the inadequacy of developing countries with the early imperialism and the

A Farewell To Arms Symbolism Analysis
The novel A Farewell to Arms focuses a lot on symbolism. In the novel, Hemingway depicts weather
in more ways than one. For example, he depicts it realistically by showing how weather took a big
part in the war experience, but it was more symbolic. This showed a lot of importance to me as it
foreshadowed the story. The weather symbolized the mood of the story, the way the characters felt,
and gave us a clue to what we could predict would happen later in the story. The rain was symbolizing
a depressing mood and sometimes even a prediction of death. For example, in the story, Catherine
would always imagine herself dead in the rain. Later in the story, she had passed away after giving
birth to her son due to ... in the rain. Fredrick lost Catherine and his son and this was no coincidence
that it was raining. In the beginning of the story, Hemingway mentioned how it was the end of fall,
where the leaves on the tree fell down to the ground and turned dead with autumn. I felt Hemingway
was trying to give us a hint that in the story rain was not a good thing.
Different from other works of literature , the rain was a symbol of death and snow was a symbol of
relief, safety, and hope. Hemingway uses the snowy winter weather as a comic relief at a point in the
story. This is where the Swiss Policemen were arguing about the winter sports. There is also a point in

Not only was weather a big part of Hemingway s examples of symbolism, but alcoholism was another

Political Analysis Of Lemonade
Since radio friendly, easy listening pop music cropped up in the late 1960s, it has become the epitome
of commercialized music fun, but insincere, ephemeral, and often forgettable. Composed to be as
easily accessible and enjoyable as possible, pop music is rarely associated with authenticity or the
political; instead, pop is often interacted with as music meant to separate the listener from existential
issues they might otherwise face, rather than music meant to confront the listener with these same
issues. However, political pop is in the midst of a renaissance, with some of the most popular
musicians being the most vocal about their political ideologies. Beyonce s critically acclaimed
Lemonade was hailed as one of the most vulnerable and honest albums of the past decade, touching on
topics like the treatment and fetishization of black women in America and police brutality. Most of all,
Lemonade offered a glimpse into the lived oppression of one of the most famous, and most wealthy,
pop stars in the world hardly the first person one might think of when thinking of someone who is
oppressed; but, Beyonce captured the essence of activism in her songs, speaking out from her place of
privilege to make known the urgency of attacking oppressive forces and showing how widespread
they are. This made Lemonade relatable to many listeners own lived experiences, connecting with
them in a way most albums could never dream of coming close. Beyonce s vocal support for activist

Does Memory Decline With Age
Does Memory Decline with Age Once you reach a certain point in your life how do you just forgot? Is
there a certain point in your life where your memory is affected? The common question going around
is does your memory decline with age. One reason this is important because it will affect all of us. We
will all get old and this can greatly affect our health. The research can show how our older age will
affect our memory. Human memory loss is an effect that we all will have to deal with. Numerous
studies show age related decline in episodic memory. (Naveh Benjamin and Kilb, 2014) The initial
research done has shown that indeed your memory will decrease. There are many reasoning for why
this happens but one of the main points refers to associative memory. One of the explanations for ...

Selective memory retrieval is research to try and recall events that occurred in your past life. In their
studies, they used sixty four participants between the age of (20 35) for the younger generation and for
the 64 participants their age was over sixty. They then proceeded to show each group certain images to
remember. Both groups showed a very poor retrieval to the images portrayed. For the most part, this
initial test between the young and older ages was unsuccessful. Since, this experiment didn t go as
planned they came up with a new process. That process being to have a much wider group is
participants. Having the participants between the age of (40 85) drastically changed the results of the
experiment. Critically, the size of the beneficial but now the detrimental effect of retrieval decreased
with age and this age related decline was mediated by individuals working memory capacity, as
measured by the complex operation span task. (Aslan, A., Schlichting, A., John, T., Bauml, K. T.,

Is Burnout A Serious Problem That Impacts An Organization...
Methods
By recognizing that burnout is a serious problem that impacts an organization s viability, an assembly
of staff nurses, nursing supervisors, human resource staff, social services, nurse administrators, and a
physician champion will be arranged to construct mission, objectives and strategies to help ameliorate
the issues at hand. Researching literature on nursing burnout is essential so that the members of the
task force has a solid grasp on potential underlying hardships contributing to nursing burnout within
the facility as well as the financial effects on the organization. Furthermore, in order to determine a
solution, the nurse s work environment should be assessed (Nedd, 2006) and measured using the 26
item Brisbane Practice Environment Measure (B PEM) (Flint, Farrugia, Courtney, Webster, 2010).
The B PEM instrument was developed to measure nursing satisfaction within the work environment
and the perceived facilities inadequacies (Flint et al. 2010; Hayes et al., 2014; Nedd, 2006). Next, the
Conditions of Work Effectiveness Questionnaire II (CWEQ II) will also be utilized to measure the
nurses perceived access to the four job related empowerment structures: opportunity, information,
support, and resources will be administered (Laschinger et al., 2003). Then nursing burnout will be
assessed and analyzed by using the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) which is a widely used
instrument to assess burnout and is considered the gold standard due to its established

How Conflict Affects Relationships
I feel as though that sometimes no one will help those with conflicts, perhaps because they don t know
what to do or maybe because they think the person should work through it themselves. Those are two
different reactions, but the second one is more harsh. The first means you probably have at least
attempted to help, but the second one seems almost selfish, like you know that person enough to know
they can and can t handle by themselves. Truthfully, we do not know what we, ourselves, can handle
often times. Those to seem to have their fair share of similarities and differences, but I have seen they
don t help because they truly believe there is nothing that can be done, that it s hopeless.
Ordinarily, conflicts as a child affects people a lot, whether that be minor or major conflicts, they
affect how you may see certain things. No matter the conflicts, though, whether they be societal or
with someone, they seem to always affect how you feel about yourself and how you deal with internal
conflicts. Maybe you re more likely to blame yourself for issues than other people, maybe you have
problems with your self esteem, etc. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Taylor Swift s Song Blank Space
In musical superstar Taylor Swift s music video for her song Blank Space, she is portraying herself as
the high maintenance and dramatic girlfriend that the media believes she is. The speaker of this text is
the media s perception of Taylor Swift and her message is about the disconnect between who Swift
really is and who the media sees her as. I believe Swift has two purposes for this music video. One is
for her character in the music video to warn her audience about the type of love that boys want, and
the other for real life Taylor herself to poke holes into the media s concept of her love life. The video
is filled with satire and paradoxes to convince us that our idea of Taylor Swift is not an accurate
opinion of her. At the very beginning of the video, we see a young man get out of a car in front of a
massive mansion that appears to be Swift s home. The car he gets ... Show more content on

Starting out with Oh my God, look at that face she is telling us that this character is very superficial
and is only looking at the outside appearance of the young man who is visiting her mansion. You look
like my next mistake, love s a game, want to play? is implying that this guy is just another object to be
had by Swift and another mistake in a long series of mistakes and that love for her is just a game, not
something to be taken seriously. This is exactly the persona that the media portrays Swift as. She has
always been seen as someone who moves on from guy to guy like the whole idea of love is just for fun
without consideration of the other persons feelings. This idea comes from her relationships with other
celebrities and lyrics in her music that go through many of her relationship troubles. Although this is
who she appears to be in real life, she is taking that idea of herself and exaggerating it in the

The Theory Of Robert Pickton As A Serial Killer
First, the theory chosen for the social science discipline, psychology is psychosocial. The focus of the
theory is how Robert Pickton became a serial killer due to the environment he grew up in and
relationships. Pickton s parents ran a meat business in Port Coquitlam and Pickton alongside his
brother helped them. Pickton s mother was tough and had the children work on a strict schedule. In
addition, Pickton s father had very little influence in his life, but his mother can be the key influence in
why he murders women. Pickton was close to his mother and she also was a major authority figure in
his life. Consequently, Pickton could have grown a hatred towards women due to his mother and is the
reason he targets women. Enough hatred to ensure his victims suffer by raping and killing them Also,
due to his mother making him work hard on the farm he had little to no childhood. Pickton did raise a
calf and was very close to it, however, the calf was slaughtered. As a result, Pickton never forgot it and
also said from CBC News, the incident made him realize life was fleeting. Additionally, Pickton is
used to seeing things being killed and dying because he saw many animals being slaughtered when he
was young. Death in his eyes has been normalized and is not an unusual occurrence. This is a key
reason Pickton does not feel remorse for the killing of his victims because it is normal to him.
Furthermore, Pickton was quiet and socially awkward, sometimes exhibiting unusual behaviour.

Problem Statement
What action should President Obama take to attenuate the problem of drug abuse among expecting
mothers during pregnancy?
Background
In the United States, there has been a growing concern for the number of newborn children that have
been exposed to drugs while in utero. The defenseless fetus is subject to any and all substances that
the mother ingests, injects, or inhales into her body. Significantly decreased gestational ages as well as
low birth weight have been linked to infants that have been born to mothers who are engaging in
substance abuse. Marijuana, cocaine, cigarettes, methamphetamine, heroin, and alcohol are some of
the more widely abused substances among pregnant mothers (Bailey, McCook, Hodge, McGrady,
2012).
Children born to drug dependent mothers are susceptible to preterm delivery, decreased intrauterine
growth, impaired neurological developments, as well as congenital abnormalities. Unfortunately, once
the umbilical cord is cut, the withdrawal for the infants is initiated. The symptoms of withdrawal will
be evident in 55% to 94% of infants within 2 to 7 days after delivery (Eichel Johannemann, 2014).
Some states have begun the argument that makes mothers that are positive for illegal, illicit, or
prescription drugs

Starting from scratch 14 years ago, Wal Mart International has grown into a $63 billion business. It is
the fastest growing part of Wal Mart, with nearly 30 percent sales growth in June, compared with the
same month last year. Even subtracting one time gains from acquisitions, it grew at nearly 12 percent,
about double the rate of Wal Mart s American stores. Sustaining that pace is critical for Wal Mart,
because high fuel prices have helped sap the buying power of Americans. In June, store traffic in its
home market declined. Wal Mart estimated that its sales in the United States in stores open at least one

Essay about Wal-Mart
The founder of the Wal Mart chain, Sam Walton was born in March 1918 in the town of Kingfisher,
Oklahoma. Graduating from the University of Missouri, Sam enlisted in the Army for the World War
II effort. Upon his return, Sam worked for a while at the J.C. Penney group of stores. He began to
realize that opportunities existed in the large scale discount retailing business (nickel and dime stores).
The idea and business philosophy of Wal Mart borrowed from the nickel and dime stores of earlier
times, and consisted of getting National Brands in bulk at a discount based on volume purchases; the
company would then stamp its mark and resell the goods at a slight markup, this rate being however
less than the other competing Mom and Pop stores ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet in the sphere of business, he was a radical trend setter. Choosing to be innovative and aggressive,
the founder of Wal Mart took the large scale discount retailing business to new heights and down new
avenues. Sam borrowed a lot of ideas for his early stores from Kmart and others. But it was what he
chose to do differently – the ways he put his own stamp on the basic business model – that made Wal
Mart so fabulously successful. His model was the same as Kmart s, but his strategy was unique. From
the very beginning, Walton chose to serve a different group of customers. At that time, the 10 largest
discounters (in 1962) focused on large metropolitan areas and cities like New York. Wal Mart s key
strategy was to put good size stores into little one horse towns which everybody else was ignoring. He
sought out isolated rural towns with populations between 5,000 25,000, and correctly bet that if his
stores could match or beat the city prices, people would shop at home. Since Wal Mart s markets
tended to be too small to support more than one large retailer, eventually the small local competitors
went out of business, making the whole area Wal Mart territory. Wal Mart also took a different
approach to merchandising and pricing than its competitors. While competitors relied heavily on
private label goods, second tier brands and price promotions, Wal Mart promised National Brands at
everyday low prices. The company pursued efficiency and

the paintings represents the following: representational painting, abstract painting, and a portrait. The
paintings I have chosen are: Edward Hopper s Nighthawks 1942, Wassily Kodinsky s Colour Studies:

Representational paintings show clear objects or events and have a clear subject matter in the painting.

I can almost picture Kandinsky s brush moving around the painting in quick, swooping motions. The
linear design of the painting is clear with the vertical and horizontal, fine lines painted as squares.
Without a doubt, the all at onceness of the painting is created by the color. Kandinsky used such a
wide range of color techniques that when I close my eyes upon viewing the painting, the image is still
present. The colors are bright primary and secondary colors mixed with more earthy hues. The two
overlapping circles on the bottom left are made evident by the low value of the green mixing with the
saturated red to create almost a black. The contrast created by the black and yellow square touching is
eye catching. The gradation in the upper left square is evident by the continuous changes from the
swirl surrounding the circle. It changes from yellow to green, then to blue and back to yellow! Can
you feel the excitement in my description? This is what the painting makes me feel while
participating. Despite the sectioned off circles and squares, the painting demonstrates unity. That is,
the painting forms togetherness, despite contrasts of details and regions. The color also helps define
the depth. As depth was clearly seen in Nighthawks, the depth of Colour Studie is not as readily
evident. Look at the bottom left square. The circle seems somewhat flat. Now view the upper left
square. It gives the feeling of protrusion. It seems as if the circle is popping out of the

Cholesterol And Its Effects On The Health Of Your Heart
Cholesterol is a waxy, fat like substance that travels through our blood stream in small packages called
Lipoproteins. There are two different types of lipoproteins that carry cholesterol through your body;
low density lipoproteins (LDL), bad cholesterol, and high density lipoproteins (HDL), good
cholesterol. (1) Our body s make all the cholesterol we need, however it is also found in food we eat,
therefore making, maintaining a good cholesterol level difficult for some people. When one talks
about cholesterol most think about the health of your heart, while this is very important, cholesterol
has other important bodily functions as well, such as, hormone production, cell membrane support,
and bile production.
LDL is known as bad cholesterol because it contributes to a thick, hard deposit that can clog arteries
and make them less flexible, known as plaque. If the plaque builds and forms a clot that blocks a
narrowed artery, one could develop a condition called peripheral artery disease, which is when plaque
buildup narrows an artery supplying blood to the legs. One could also be diagnosed with
atherosclerosis, this is a condition that is caused by a clot that blocks a narrowed artery that can result
in a stroke or even a heart attack. (2)
HDL is considered good cholesterol because it helps to remove LDL cholesterol from the arteries.
HDL carries the LDL cholesterol away from the arteries, back to the liver, where it is broken down
and passed through the body. Nearly

Mere Christianity Book 1 Summary
Book 3 of Mere Christianity contains 12 separate chapters, which has far too great a scope to address
properly here, so a glimpse will have to suffice. In the first, Lewis examines three components of
morality; the relations between men, the interior moral mechanics of a man, and the relationship
between a man and the God who made him. Lewis makes the case that, since we are destined to live
forever in one state or another, it is desperately important that we pay attention to the sort of Being we
are becoming. Lewis points out that most of humanity can agree that keeping relations between men
running smoothly are important, but varying world views and religions or lack of religion, have
produced some disagreements on the necessity of keeping one s own ship in order, as it were, and it
completely breaks down when the relationship between a man and his Maker are addressed, as there is
virtually no agreement there.
In the second section, he outlines the principle, or cardinal virtues: Prudence, Temperance, Justice and
Fortitude, which could also be termed wisdom, self control, fairness, equity, and steadfastness. He
uses the vivid illustration of an athlete, or mathematician who practices a virtue, making a shot in
tennis, or solving problems till they become internalized, a part of the person who disciplined himself
to perfect them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Comparing Plato And Bacon s The Idols Of The Tribe,...
In discussions of our susceptibility of delusions and false beliefs, Plato argues that humans can choose
whether they want to follow the false beliefs in the darkness, or go into the light by facing all aspects
of reality with honesty. Bacon s argument is similar to Plato s, and Bacon combines the four mistakes
of human nature into four different idols. Idol of the tribe, cave, marketplace, and theater. Bacon s
idols help explain how we are vulnerable to delusions Although Plato and Bacon claim that we are
susceptible to delusions and false beliefs, I claim that the human understanding is vulnerable to
distortion because people bring their own background into their thoughts which distort the truths. truth
is distorted by human understanding and people are teaching the distorted truth to other people, so
people become blinded when they go from the darkness, the bad, to the light, or the good. Bacon
explains what Idols of the Cave are, and how they lead to a distortion of the truth. The Idols of the
Cave are the idols of the individual man. For everyone (besides the errors common to human nature in
general) has a cave or den of his own, which refracts and discolors the light of nature (Bacon 131).
Here, Bacon describes that every person has their own ¨cave which represents the fault of people. The
cave distorts the truth and reality, and this is how false facts come to be. Because everyone has their
own cave, one truth is distorted differently by every single person until

The Biology Department did not require any prerequisite classes for Ornithology and it was an

The Internet and Academic Dishonesty
Term paper mills are not a new development, and neither is dishonesty. However, the rise of the
internet into an information hivemind has made commiting academic dishonesty easier, faster, and
more clandestine than ever. In the case of higher education, the number of paper mills is rising at an
alarming rate. []
Most paper services fall under one of two categories: editing sites and paper mills. Editin sites seem
harmless from an academic standpoint: students can have their papers proofread at any time, with
quick turnovers in the case of looming deadlines. The students write their own papers and the editors
merely mark areas that need improvement and give general guidelines for grammar and stylistic
changes. Of course, most people would be unwilling to pay $6.95[1] for proofreading. It is more likely
that these sites heavily alter the essays they receive for editing , making them more of a co writer of
the paper rather than just a reader. Paper mills are the more common online paper service: they usually
keep many essays in stock with small excerpts available on their website. Buying a paper from these
websites is not unethical, and there are cases where using another student s work to find primary
sources and integrate such essay in one s own would be beneficial. In fact, most paper mill websites
usually include a disclaimer stating that all papers they sell must be used as a reference. The following
is an example disclaimer

Rodney King Violence
170 On The 91
April 29th, 1992. A jury in Ventura County acquitted four white Los Angeles Police Department
officers of brutally beating Rodney G. King, an unarmed African American motorist. The riots that
followed over the next five days left more than 50 people dead, more than 2,000 injured, and nearly
12,000 arrested (Los Angeles Riots Fast Facts). My father, James Webster, was a witness to these riots.
On March 3, 1991, paroled felon Rodney King led police on a high speed chase through the streets of
Los Angeles County before eventually surrendering. Intoxicated and uncooperative, King resisted
arrest and was brutally beaten by police officers Laurence Powell, Theodore Briseno, and Timothy
Wind ( Riots Erupt in Los Angeles ). The incident was caught on video, and is still viewable on
YouTube.
The 81 second video featured the LAPS officers repeatedly delivering baton blows, kicking King until
he fell to the ground. To say that they just beat him is a severe understatement. The video also
captured King cowering on the concrete, and attempting to crawl away, but to no avail, as the police
officers swarmed around him. Rodney King was beaten inches from death. Its images have been
seared into the minds of viewers the world over who have watched the tape broadcast repeatedly ( The
L.A. Riots, 25 Years Later ).
Rodney King was released without charges, and the four LAPD officers were acquitted of any
wrongdoing, since jurors were not convinced the video evidence

  • 2. The Role Of Contemporary Education On A Sustainable Global... Introduction (519 words) The 21st century has marked the importance of bringing up urgent, but complex problems involving significant threats to all humanity, such as global warming, pollution, and ozone depletion. Never before had it been so critical to analyse the environmental degradation and to join all the nations forces in order to build a sustainable global society which is meant to be based on respect for nature, universal human rights, economic justice, and a culture of peace (The Earth Charter Commission, 1992, p. 1). The planet needs us to be culturally responsive (Greenwood, 2014, p. 279) citizens of the world, so that in the age of substantial anthropogenic ecological impacts (Greenwood, 2014, p. 282) our teaching and pedagogical goals correspond to the understanding of an ecological perspective on the very well being of the planet in the future. Therefore, the role of contemporary education is to transform the past observations and insufficient teaching methods to be flexible and broadly inclusive underpinned by the concept of Education for Sustainability (EfS). However, at first, we have to understand our own society and the era we have been living in for almost two decades. In the year 2000, a new geological term for the modern civilisation emerged in the academic literature: the Anthropocene. The author of the term, the Nobel Prize winning atmospheric chemist Paul Crutzen, defines the Anthropocene as a new phase in the history of both humankind and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Native Americans In New France During the beginning of the colonization period within America, many Europeans were escaping their lives in Europe. America delivered Europeans from the social, political, and economic inequality. They no longer had to feel apprehension from the crop famines. They finally had a chance of freedom. When Europeans first encountered Native Americans, they saw them as the exemplification of freedom. Even though colonists desired freedom, they felt that Native Americans had the wrong type of freedom. They thought they were too free and lacked the structure that civilization provided. Because of the multitude of Natives in America they had no choice but to live around them, but the treatment of the Natives between the French and the English were vastly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Considering the small white population compared to the mass amount of Natives in North America, the French depended on good relations with Native Americans. The main person to blame the good relationship between the Natives is Samuel de Champlain, who founded the region of New France. In contrast to the usual ideals of Europeans, Champlain insisted on religious toleration for all Christians and denied that Native Americans were intellectually or culturally inferior to Europeans, (Foner 38). He imagined creating a civilization where people of multiple cultural backgrounds can live together peacefully. For the most part he was successful. Native Americans life within New France were quite different compared to New England. Native Americans were more involved in the Atlantic economy due to their involvement in the fur trade. Cultural exchange and intermixing was quite normal in New France, métis, children of Indian women and Frenchmen, became traders, guides, and interpreters. More French embraced Native lifestyle, than Natives embracing the French lifestyle. Even though it was encouraged for Natives to adopt French lifestyle with the incentive of French ... • 4. Why Do Businesses Manage Data And Use Graphics Lesson 10 Essay Why do businesses manage data and use graphics to reveal their overall performance standings, and what type of graphics, tables, or charts should one use to share communicating quantitative information to their business customers that s not only effective; but easy to understand? Businesses manage data in order to review, and share information received by others; which are displayed by usage of certain graphs that indicates ones performance levels in certain areas. However, before you can interpret data, the elements must be classified, summarized, and condensed into a manageable size; while the condensed information is meaningful and can be used to answer your research questions (Lehman, Dufrene, Walker, 2014, p. 169). The purpose for using these type of elements is to display your findings in a way that others can relate to, by simply compiling all the data into a readable analysis technique through the usage of a computer. However, it takes careful planning as to what graphics to use, depending on what results you and the customers are currently searching for. That s why there are certain steps to follow when gathering the necessary information before selecting the right format to put into existence for others to view. The first step is to gather the information from the survey, then input it into the computer system; so it can be categorized by importance. This system allows it to be broken down into sections, then divided into categories; by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Management Of A Learning Management System ( Lms ) For The... This paper serves as an expansion of previous analysis on use and management of a Learning Management System (LMS) for the U.S. Army Chaplain Center and School. First, we ll consider specific learning assets that will be implemented. Next, treatment will be given to the modality of the assets in our courses. We ll analyze specific curriculum objectives and relate those to specific assets. Attention will be given to the relationship between some key stakeholders and asset management as well. Finally, we ll take a look at how these assets enhance the goals of the course. Blackboard Learn, our LMS, supports a wide variety of media and hypermedia to support our learning goals. Virtually all of our courses will, in some way or another, utilize presentations, videos, lectures, and quizzes. All of these are certainly compatible. Presentations can be helpful for those with a strong preference for visual learning. Presentations are best utilized asynchronously so students can review them at a time of their choosing. Presentations can also be transformed fairly easily into study guides or job aids depending on the content and how it is presented, such as Adobe s portable document format (PDF). PDF s are a fairly ubiquitous file format that can present visual information fairly well. There are tools for more visually stimulating presentations as well. • 7. Analysis Of The Supervisor s Claims About Jeanette Landis In order to confirm that the supervisor s claims about Jeanette Landis are true, I would need to discuss her performance, in regards to her sales, with the sales department or the department that is in charge of this certain information. Even though Mr. White accuses Jeanette of not reaching her sales goals, all the facts and data need to be reviewed in order to determine if the information provided is accurate in terms of her performance. The human resource director cannot assume anything, approach all situations with caution, and be unbiased when determining the best action to take. When firing and employee, the human resource manager should be consistent and thorough when investigating the claims in order to prevent a discrimination lawsuit (Dunn, 1991, p. 26). Therefore, the sales records of Jeanette Landis need to be reviewed in order to determine if the allegations present by Mr. White are accurate. When taking with the supervisor of the sales department, I would want a copy of Jeanette s sales as well as a few other employees sales records in order to accurately compare the sales data information. The sales supervisor should give a timeline for the data, so that I could fully comprehend her sales. For example, the supervisor needs to give me some insight into how many months the sales records are for; whether it be two months or six months. This information is critical because Mr. White claims that she has not meet her sales goal in six months, so I would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Understanding Pro Social Behaviour Among Humans ( Cikara ) The ability for an individual to recognize another s suffering and experience the same emotions to some extent is common in order to promote pro social behaviour among humans (Cikara, Bruneau, Van Bavel, Saxe, 2014). This ability to empathize with others begins early on and is motivated by the need to alleviate the distress in another when they are suffering. As noted by de Waal (2008), empathy occurs quickly and automatically as a way to respond to the emotional states of others, in turn being a major part of social interactions, coordinated activity, and cooperation toward shared goals. Thus, de Waal (2008) discusses the three different levels of empathy, among which are emotional contagion, sympathetic concern, and empathic perspective taking. Firstly, emotional contagion is simply about automatic sharing as the individual takes on the emotional state of another even without any understanding of the other (de Waal, 2008). Next, de Waal (2008) suggests sympathetic concern is when an individual attempts to understand and reduce distress in the other (i.e. comforting behaviour), as there is knowledge that the response is about the other. In Shakespeare s play of the same name, the monarch battles literally with France for the throne and figuratively with accountability and being a just ruler and conqueror. Through the story, we can see the values Henry holds and how the real implications of war aren t something the king cannot deal with in a proper manner. The debate between King Henry and the common soldiers like Williams and Bates illustrate fundamental problems with Henry s rule and asks important questions about the motives behind war itself. He ignores the responsibility of the king for putting all these lives in danger. He denies the fault of the king for waging the war, and instead deflects the blame onto the will of God. This is a believe that is horribly ignorant and unfair to the people who might actually lose their lives. When the king conquers the French port on the mouth of the Seine, he insults them and states that God is on their side. Eventually, he implies that the French should feel badly for being responsible for the death of their many citizens at the hands of English. However, the same doesn t apply for himself when he could be leading his men to their deaths. This might be because he thinks God s favor lies with England but it is of course foolish and hypocritical to believe this. Adichie states: So, the year I turned eight, we got a new house boy ... The only thing my mother told us about him was that his family was very poor ... All I had heard about them was how poor they were, so that it had become impossible for me to see them as anything else but poor. . The end of the story is very touching as the son dies. The irony there is the father thinks that the son is talking to his friends while he is actually being murdered by them. When he sees his son falling down he rushes towards him. He notices a hole below the son s nose which should not be there, a hole made by a bullet passing through it and blood was coming out. Active learning includes four elements: the person itself, the active learning group, the respective problems and the measures taken in order to solve the problems which allow learning. The set of values that organizations work with and which constitutes the subject of learning is a complex one and has determined theoreticians to establish conceptual hierarchies of knowledge. The model of the five levels 15 that we present below reflects the progressive accumulation of the value of the data as they turn into competencies (see figure 1). Therefore, it is obvious that the data are a priori than isolated elements. When elements are placed into context and combined within a structure, the information acquires higher values. • 20. A Farewell To Arms Symbolism Analysis The novel A Farewell to Arms focuses a lot on symbolism. In the novel, Hemingway depicts weather in more ways than one. For example, he depicts it realistically by showing how weather took a big part in the war experience, but it was more symbolic. This showed a lot of importance to me as it foreshadowed the story. The weather symbolized the mood of the story, the way the characters felt, and gave us a clue to what we could predict would happen later in the story. The rain was symbolizing a depressing mood and sometimes even a prediction of death. For example, in the story, Catherine would always imagine herself dead in the rain. Later in the story, she had passed away after giving birth to her son due to ... in the rain. Fredrick lost Catherine and his son and this was no coincidence that it was raining. In the beginning of the story, Hemingway mentioned how it was the end of fall, where the leaves on the tree fell down to the ground and turned dead with autumn. I felt Hemingway was trying to give us a hint that in the story rain was not a good thing. Different from other works of literature , the rain was a symbol of death and snow was a symbol of relief, safety, and hope. Hemingway uses the snowy winter weather as a comic relief at a point in the story. This is where the Swiss Policemen were arguing about the winter sports. There is also a point in the story where Frederick and Catherine are in the Swiss Alps surrounded by snow. This is where these two are happy to be in love and can finally enjoy it for once. They are finally worried about each other and nothing else. They are finally safe and happy at this point in the story. Not only was weather a big part of Hemingway s examples of symbolism, but alcoholism was another big one. Alcohol took a big part in the story because it was the only way that the people thought they were able to have a good time with everything going on. In this novel Hemingway never refused a drink. Fredrick even gets an alcohol disease from drinking too much. I think alcohol was a way that everyone coped with their problems. Composed to be as easily accessible and enjoyable as possible, pop music is rarely associated with authenticity or the political; instead, pop is often interacted with as music meant to separate the listener from existential issues they might otherwise face, rather than music meant to confront the listener with these same issues. Most of all, Lemonade offered a glimpse into the lived oppression of one of the most famous, and most wealthy, pop stars in the world hardly the first person one might think of when thinking of someone who is oppressed; but, Beyonce captured the essence of activism in her songs, speaking out from her place of privilege to make known the urgency of attacking oppressive forces and showing how widespread they are. Background In the United States, there has been a growing concern for the number of newborn children that have been exposed to drugs while in utero. The defenseless fetus is subject to any and all substances that the mother ingests, injects, or inhales into her body. Significantly decreased gestational ages as well as low birth weight have been linked to infants that have been born to mothers who are engaging in substance abuse. Starting from scratch 14 years ago, Wal Mart International has grown into a $63 billion business. It is the fastest growing part of Wal Mart, with nearly 30 percent sales growth in June, compared with the same month last year. Even subtracting one time gains from acquisitions, it grew at nearly 12 percent, about double the rate of Wal Mart s American stores. Sustaining that pace is critical for Wal Mart, because high fuel prices have helped sap the buying power of Americans. In June, store traffic in its home market declined. Wal Mart estimated that its sales in the United States in stores open at least one year would increase only 1 percent to 3 percent in July. Multimedia {draw:a} Related Retail Chains Scramble to Enter Indian Market (August 2, 2006) Wal Mart Germany, with 85 stores and $2.5 billion in sales, is almost a footnote for a company focused on Asia and Latin America. But the problems it encountered here have echoes elsewhere. For example, it never established comfortable relations with its German labor unions. They didn t understand that in Germany, companies and unions are closely connected, Mr. Poschmann said. Bentonville didn t want to have anything to do with unions. They thought we were communists. Ms. Keck said Wal Mart did cultivate good relations with the leaders of the works council, which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Essay about Wal-Mart The founder of the Wal Mart chain, Sam Walton was born in March 1918 in the town of Kingfisher, Oklahoma. Graduating from the University of Missouri, Sam enlisted in the Army for the World War II effort. Upon his return, Sam worked for a while at the J.C. Penney group of stores. He began to realize that opportunities existed in the large scale discount retailing business (nickel and dime stores). The idea and business philosophy of Wal Mart borrowed from the nickel and dime stores of earlier times, and consisted of getting National Brands in bulk at a discount based on volume purchases; the company would then stamp its mark and resell the goods at a slight markup, this rate being however less than the other competing Mom and Pop stores ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yet in the sphere of business, he was a radical trend setter. Choosing to be innovative and aggressive, the founder of Wal Mart took the large scale discount retailing business to new heights and down new avenues. Sam borrowed a lot of ideas for his early stores from Kmart and others. But it was what he chose to do differently – the ways he put his own stamp on the basic business model – that made Wal Mart so fabulously successful. His model was the same as Kmart s, but his strategy was unique. From the very beginning, Walton chose to serve a different group of customers. At that time, the 10 largest discounters (in 1962) focused on large metropolitan areas and cities like New York. Wal Mart s key strategy was to put good size stores into little one horse towns which everybody else was ignoring. He sought out isolated rural towns with populations between 5,000 25,000, and correctly bet that if his stores could match or beat the city prices, people would shop at home. Since Wal Mart s markets tended to be too small to support more than one large retailer, eventually the small local competitors went out of business, making the whole area Wal Mart territory. Wal Mart also took a different approach to merchandising and pricing than its competitors. While competitors relied heavily on private label goods, second tier brands and price promotions, Wal Mart promised National Brands at everyday low prices. The company pursued efficiency and ... • 31. Form, Content, and Subject Matter Form, Content, and Subject Matter GENZ 220Z Art Critique Paper Shelby M. Dykes In this paper, I will discuss the form, content, and subject matter of three different paintings. Each of the paintings represents the following: representational painting, abstract painting, and a portrait. The paintings I have chosen are: Edward Hopper s Nighthawks 1942, Wassily Kodinsky s Colour Studies: Squares and Concentrentic Circles 1913, and Pablo Picasso s Self Portrait 1907. Representational paintings show clear objects or events and have a clear subject matter in the painting. The subject matter is quite evident in Edward Hopper s Nighthawks. The subject matter is the dominating, brightly lit diner. The diner is proportionately large. It is built on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I can almost picture Kandinsky s brush moving around the painting in quick, swooping motions. The linear design of the painting is clear with the vertical and horizontal, fine lines painted as squares. Without a doubt, the all at onceness of the painting is created by the color. Kandinsky used such a wide range of color techniques that when I close my eyes upon viewing the painting, the image is still present. The colors are bright primary and secondary colors mixed with more earthy hues. The two overlapping circles on the bottom left are made evident by the low value of the green mixing with the saturated red to create almost a black. The contrast created by the black and yellow square touching is eye catching. The gradation in the upper left square is evident by the continuous changes from the swirl surrounding the circle. It changes from yellow to green, then to blue and back to yellow! Can you feel the excitement in my description? This is what the painting makes me feel while participating. Despite the sectioned off circles and squares, the painting demonstrates unity. That is, the painting forms togetherness, despite contrasts of details and regions. The color also helps define the depth. As depth was clearly seen in Nighthawks, the depth of Colour Studie is not as readily evident. Look at the bottom left square. The circle seems somewhat flat. Now view the upper left square. It gives the feeling of protrusion. It seems as if the circle is popping out of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Cholesterol And Its Effects On The Health Of Your Heart Cholesterol is a waxy, fat like substance that travels through our blood stream in small packages called Lipoproteins. There are two different types of lipoproteins that carry cholesterol through your body; low density lipoproteins (LDL), bad cholesterol, and high density lipoproteins (HDL), good cholesterol. (1) Our body s make all the cholesterol we need, however it is also found in food we eat, therefore making, maintaining a good cholesterol level difficult for some people. When one talks about cholesterol most think about the health of your heart, while this is very important, cholesterol has other important bodily functions as well, such as, hormone production, cell membrane support, and bile production. LDL is known as bad cholesterol because it contributes to a thick, hard deposit that can clog arteries and make them less flexible, known as plaque. If the plaque builds and forms a clot that blocks a narrowed artery, one could develop a condition called peripheral artery disease, which is when plaque buildup narrows an artery supplying blood to the legs. One could also be diagnosed with atherosclerosis, this is a condition that is caused by a clot that blocks a narrowed artery that can result in a stroke or even a heart attack. (2) HDL is considered good cholesterol because it helps to remove LDL cholesterol from the arteries. HDL carries the LDL cholesterol away from the arteries, back to the liver, where it is broken down and passed through the body. Nearly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Mere Christianity Book 1 Summary Book 3 of Mere Christianity contains 12 separate chapters, which has far too great a scope to address properly here, so a glimpse will have to suffice. In the first, Lewis examines three components of morality; the relations between men, the interior moral mechanics of a man, and the relationship between a man and the God who made him. Lewis makes the case that, since we are destined to live forever in one state or another, it is desperately important that we pay attention to the sort of Being we are becoming. Lewis points out that most of humanity can agree that keeping relations between men running smoothly are important, but varying world views and religions or lack of religion, have produced some disagreements on the necessity of keeping one s own ship in order, as it were, and it completely breaks down when the relationship between a man and his Maker are addressed, as there is virtually no agreement there. In the second section, he outlines the principle, or cardinal virtues: Prudence, Temperance, Justice and Fortitude, which could also be termed wisdom, self control, fairness, equity, and steadfastness. He uses the vivid illustration of an athlete, or mathematician who practices a virtue, making a shot in tennis, or solving problems till they become internalized, a part of the person who disciplined himself to perfect them. ... The major product was 1 t butoxypentane and the minor was 1 pentene (in consecutive order). Note that 1 pentene increases in reaction 4 relative to reaction 3. This is due to steric hindrance (bulky tert butoxide) which decreases the SN2 product in reaction 4 relative to reaction 3. Experimental Method A 25 ml RB flask was set up up for reflux with a drying tube and 1 ml of 1.5 M of potassium tert butoxide was added along with 8 drops of 1 bromopentane. • 35. Comparing Plato And Bacon s The Idols Of The Tribe,... In discussions of our susceptibility of delusions and false beliefs, Plato argues that humans can choose whether they want to follow the false beliefs in the darkness, or go into the light by facing all aspects of reality with honesty. Bacon s argument is similar to Plato s, and Bacon combines the four mistakes of human nature into four different idols. Idol of the tribe, cave, marketplace, and theater. Bacon s idols help explain how we are vulnerable to delusions Although Plato and Bacon claim that we are susceptible to delusions and false beliefs, I claim that the human understanding is vulnerable to distortion because people bring their own background into their thoughts which distort the truths. truth is distorted by human understanding and people are teaching the distorted truth to other people, so people become blinded when they go from the darkness, the bad, to the light, or the good. Bacon explains what Idols of the Cave are, and how they lead to a distortion of the truth. The Idols of the Cave are the idols of the individual man. For everyone (besides the errors common to human nature in general) has a cave or den of his own, which refracts and discolors the light of nature (Bacon 131). Here, Bacon describes that every person has their own ¨cave which represents the fault of people. The cave distorts the truth and reality, and this is how false facts come to be. Because everyone has their own cave, one truth is distorted differently by every single person until ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The professor, Dr. Leon Jernigan was an awesome instructor, very helpful and knowledgeable. Dr. Leon Jernigan focused on teaching us the major groupings of birds, basics of flights, adaptions, and their nesting behaviors. He presented the material with PowerPoints, handouts and videos. The instructor taught the lab with many hands on activities including fieldtrips, dissections, bird watching, and birding identification. The Biology Department did not require any prerequisite classes for Ornithology and it was an elective for Biology major. • 37. The Internet and Academic Dishonesty Term paper mills are not a new development, and neither is dishonesty. However, the rise of the internet into an information hivemind has made commiting academic dishonesty easier, faster, and more clandestine than ever. In the case of higher education, the number of paper mills is rising at an alarming rate. [] Most paper services fall under one of two categories: editing sites and paper mills. Editin sites seem harmless from an academic standpoint: students can have their papers proofread at any time, with quick turnovers in the case of looming deadlines. The students write their own papers and the editors merely mark areas that need improvement and give general guidelines for grammar and stylistic changes. Of course, most people would be unwilling to pay $6.95[1] for proofreading. It is more likely that these sites heavily alter the essays they receive for editing , making them more of a co writer of the paper rather than just a reader. Paper mills are the more common online paper service: they usually keep many essays in stock with small excerpts available on their website. Buying a paper from these websites is not unethical, and there are cases where using another student s work to find primary sources and integrate such essay in one s own would be beneficial. In fact, most paper mill websites usually include a disclaimer stating that all papers they sell must be used as a reference. The following is an example disclaimer Can I Turn Your Paper In As My Own ? ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Rodney King Violence 170 On The 91 April 29th, 1992. A jury in Ventura County acquitted four white Los Angeles Police Department officers of brutally beating Rodney G. King, an unarmed African American motorist. The riots that followed over the next five days left more than 50 people dead, more than 2,000 injured, and nearly 12,000 arrested (Los Angeles Riots Fast Facts). My father, James Webster, was a witness to these riots. On March 3, 1991, paroled felon Rodney King led police on a high speed chase through the streets of Los Angeles County before eventually surrendering. Intoxicated and uncooperative, King resisted arrest and was brutally beaten by police officers Laurence Powell, Theodore Briseno, and Timothy Wind ( Riots Erupt in Los Angeles ). The incident was caught on video, and is still viewable on YouTube. The 81 second video featured the LAPS officers repeatedly delivering baton blows, kicking King until he fell to the ground. To say that they just beat him is a severe understatement. The video also captured King cowering on the concrete, and attempting to crawl away, but to no avail, as the police officers swarmed around him. Rodney King was beaten inches from death. Its images have been seared into the minds of viewers the world over who have watched the tape broadcast repeatedly ( The L.A. Riots, 25 Years Later ). Rodney King was released without charges, and the four LAPD officers were acquitted of any wrongdoing, since jurors were not convinced the video evidence ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
