Religious Spaces, By Thomas Tweed
Religious spaces, characterized by Thomas Tweed, are differentiated, interrelated, and kinetic. As a
sacred city with spiritual significance in three major religions, Jerusalem is depicted thoroughly in
the Hebrew Bible and illustrated as one of the spaces Tweed defines. The Bible emphasizes that
Jerusalemwas chosen by God and honored by Israelites, which differentiates it as a special,
singular space; the description of Solomon s Temple shows that the Holy City was interrelated to
economic power and involved in the judgment of civil cases. Moreover, the conquest, development
and destruction of Jerusalem illustrate the city as a kinetic space, reflecting the unsettled history of
the Iron Age. These characteristics all make Jerusalem a religious and political center from the
ancient Near East time to present day, guiding the footsteps of believers around the world.
In his essay Space , Thomas Tweed characterizes spaces for religious practices as differentiated
locales that are sensually encountered and imaginatively figured. They are more or less special,
singular, or set apart from undifferentiated or unnamed generic places (Tweed 2011: 119). He also
states that spaces are always interrelated with nature and with culture, and they are shaped by
political processes, social relations and economic forces. Furthermore, defining religions as
confluence of organic cultural flows about dwelling and crossing, about finding a place and moving

To What Extent Did The Leadership Of Pericles Influence...
Essay 1500 words
To what extent did the leadership of pericles influence the society of athenian life and Greek culture.
Intro
What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the
lives of others. The Athenian leader Pericles helped Athens and Greece to greatly exceed in
militarily, politically and architecturally, therefore Periclesimmensely influenced Athenian society.
His influence was so profound that it resulted in Athens being known as the golden age of
Pericles . Pericles was known as the leading statesman of Athens for a miraculous period of 15
years in succession, ( 446 to 449 BC) and brought it to the height of its political power and its
artistic achievement. From this point in time families thrived and religious festivals were held
throughout the year which made the golden age of Pericles a peaceful time where citizens could
relax and luxuriate in their lives. The age of pericles was the strongest position in the history of
Ancient Greece.
Pericles did a lot for the Athenians to improve their humanity and welfare. In this period such
important advances were made in a collection of fields including government, art, philosophy,
drama and literature. Pericles had three main goals as a leader, the first, to strengthen and
establish democracy, where he would influence and concede for all citizens to speak, vote and
hold office. Pericles wanted all citizens equal before the law. His second goal was to strengthen the

A Clockwork Orange Comparison
A Clockwork Orange is the film adaptation of Anthony Burgess famous novel of the same name,
which was released in 1962, and was directed by Stanley Kubrick. The film narrates the life of the
violent and manipulative protagonist, Alex DeLarge, and his friends. Alex and his friends, Pete,
Georgie, and Dim, commit horrific, demeaning acts of violence, including rape and destruction of
property, simply for the thrill. Once their regular activities become a bore to them, Alexs friends
suggest participating in even worse acts, which completely outrages Alex at the apparent threat
to his power. After Alex reasserts his dominance over his group of criminals with the use of his
words, he decides to prove his dominance with a physical act. This results in Alex murdering a
woman, who was known simply as the Cat Lady, which lands him a 14 year prison sentence, and
is now referred as Prisoner #655321. Even in prison, however, Alex is still a manipulative,... Show

Stereotypes In The Outsiders By SE Hinton
In the Out Siders written by SE Hinton, set in the 1960 s, is a novel focused on Two Stereotypical
youth gangs, the greasers (east side people who are poor), and the Socs (Westside people who are
rich). SE Hinton has included many themes throughout the novel, as the story develops around
youth conflict between these two stereotypical youth sides, and how a death could mean so much
to both. This is shown as SE Hinton communicates the themes, Stereotypes, family, and empathy
throughout The Outsiders . Stereotypes are a common theme in the outsiders, SE Hinton shows
this in the novel as Ponyboy refers to the term greasers , (chapter one page three) He continues

Mark Zuckerberg Vs Smart People
There are many intelligent people in the world. One would assume that all of these intelligent
people are very successful because they are smart, but this isn t the case. There are many
intelligent people who are not wealthy, well educated, or successful. To be smart and to be
intelligent are two very different things. Many students who get good grades are smart, but not
intelligent. There are doctors who are smart, but not very intelligent. There are construction
workers who are not smart, but they are intelligent. There are college dropouts who are not smart,
but they are intellegent. To be smart is to be able to retain knowledge. To be intelligent is to be able

Many times a student will memorize what they need to know on the test. They will not truly
memorize the material because they will soon forget it after the test. Since test taking is generally
the only way that people are evaluated upon, this leads to society having more smart kids than
intelligent ones. Kids will often get into college because they are smart, but many times they can t
solve a complex problem because they lack that intellect to do so. There are many intelligent
people who never go to college because they have an idea that they need to get out to the world.
This is possibly why many inventors and successful college dropouts are innovative individuals
that start a business to help them gain wealth. There are far more smart people than there are
intelligent ones. Even though being smart is different from being intelligent, individuals can be
both smart and intelligent. Individuals can also be neither smart nor intelligent. There are people
like Dr. Ben Carson and Karl Marx who are both smart and intelligent. There are also people who
are neither smart nor intelligent like like Mike Tyson. Dr. Carson was an individual who grew up
in the ghettos of Detroit and through books he was able to gain much knowledge and do well in
school. He eventually used his intelligence to become the first neurosurgeon to split up siamese
twins successfully. Karl Marx was also very smart and intelligent. He was a German economist and
philosopher. He was incredibly

The Negative Effects Of Eurocentric Beauty Standards...
Despite the claim that everyone is beautiful, barely 20% of the models in New York, London,
Paris, and Milan for fashion week are people of color (Wilson, 2014). Eurocentric beauty
standards have a negative impact on countless people around the world who do not fit into these
set values. These standards are often times valued over non European features, and this impacts
children at a younger age than some may believe. It is not uncommon for people with lighter skin
to be more valued than those who have darker skin. A prime example of the effects of Eurocentric
beauty standards around the world is shown in A White Woman
of Color by Julia Alvarez:
The oldest sister had the darkest coloring, with very curly hair and coarse features. She looked
the most like Papi s side of the family and was considered the least pretty. [...] But the pride and
joy of the family was the baby. She was the one who made heads turn and strangers approach
asking to feel her silken hair. She was white white, an adjective that was repeated in describing her
color as if to deepen the shade of white. (Alvarez, 1998, p. 131). ... Show more content on

Those who have lighter skin and features that are similar to those of Europeans are often
considered more attractive, while those who have darker skin are looked down upon. In Asia,
numerous women use skin whitening creams, and some even go as far as to have double eyelid
surgeries. Plastic surgery is also common in Lebanon, where one in three women will undergo
treatment. Many African women also find the need to change the texture of their hair (Eurocentric
2015). All over the world, women of color feel pressured by societal expectations to alter their
appearances to fit into a more Eurocentric

Human Induced Global Climate Change Essay
Human Induced Global Climate Change Worldwide temperatures are rising, carbon dioxide is at a
hazardous level, ocean acidification, atmosphere boundary shifts, and extreme events are just a few
of the worldwide climate changes happening near and far. It is a controversial issue whether it is
taking place in the present velocity because of nature or man. However, global climate changes
happen naturally, but they ought not to happen at this increased rapidity; therefore, human activity
is a great cause that global climate changeis happening at an expanded rate. The greatest
contribution of human action is the combustion of fossil fuels, which is one of the primary reasons
why the carbon dioxidelevels are nearing high hazard strata. Thus, the scientific confirmation
supports that the rise in carbon dioxide levels is significantly generated by people, not nature, and
people are ultimately the largest contributor to the atmospheric changes; thus, human beings should
implement changes to their energy sources and modify agricultural production in order to lessen
the quantity of carbon dioxide emitted into the aura at the extraordinary rate it currently is passing.
Fossil fuels are of course produced from coal, petroleum, gas, diesel fuel, and natural gasses.
Carbon dioxide is one of the many gasses that are emitted from the fossil fuel burning, and carbon
dioxide is responsible for trapping heat in the earth s atmosphere. Nevertheless, carbon dioxide is
naturally

Wasp Narrative
Hey Slick, wake up! There s 10 Russian jets 30 miles out!
I woke up quickly, and seeing that it was my Weapon Systems Officer, Wasp. I jumped up changed
into my Uniform. I walked up the cold metal stairs, leading to the carrier deck. Something was
wrong. The pilots were doing their flight checks, and there were men sitting at the ship guns,
looking up, as if expecting something.
I quickly ran to my F 18 Hornet, and climbed into the cockpit. Wasp ran after me, and climbed into
the back. I turned on the ignition and looked at my flight checklist. Once I was ready, I taxied the
plane to the aircraft carrier catapult and the crew positioned the plane and put the catapult on. Then
I was signaled to push to full power. I slowly pushed the throttle ... Show more content on

I dived down, but the plane followed us. So I leveled out. Then I came up with an idea. I waited for
the plane to follow us again, and then I pulled the airbrakes as hard as I could.
I almost thought we stopped in midair. That s what it felt like. I aimed at the plane and fired.
The right wind shuddered, and a white sidewinder missile shot out of my plane s right wing and
went inside the Mig 29. Literally. Then it exploded. I had to pull out of the way as the flames
stood in the way of my path. I turned back to the carrier, so that I could land.
As the runway came closer to us, I lowered the flaps, and lowered the tailhook. The plane came
down, and touched the runway softly. Then, the arresting wire yanked the plane to a full stop in
1 second. I parked the plane and climbed out. A couple of officers came and patted me on the
back. I didn t care, though. I walked to my bunk, and fell into the bed, tired. It was a good fight,
but I was exhausted, so I fell

A Study On A Television
A television I am usually exposed to during this year is located in a room dedicated for students
who want to relax or study on the side. This television is located in the lounge of an Oakes
College residential hall. The television set is located above eye level in the right hand corner as
you enter the room. Below the set, is a VCR with the remote control on top of it. As for the lounge
layout, there are three sofas that are placed in a rectangular shape all of them facing the television.
In the middle are two rectangular shaped tables used to place stuff when one is watching tv. On
the other side of the room, are three full size tables placed next to each other to create a study
space for any resident in the residential hall.
A few of my fellow neighbors are on their laptops studying or on their social medias glancing a
few moments at what s on the television screen. Unlike those sitting in front of the table those who
are sitting at the couches are gazing at the different programs being transmitted on the television
screen. All of us seem to be watching the television for the same purpose as a pure form of
entertainment to relieve stress from being a student. Each time a commercial starts mostly everyone
go on their phones or use that time to go to the restroom as well as change the channels.
The entrance to the room becomes a place for decisions as one has to decide to either study or relax
by watching television. This moment is similar to what Anna McCarthy mentions

The Definition Of Noise Pollution
A.Noise Pollution
If we define Noise in a layman language, it is nothing but a disturbance which come out of result
of activities by Human being. There are many classic definition of Noise and thereby caused noise
pollution but this is apt to understand the importance of emerging issue which has not been
addressed from so long.
Noise is an outcome of developments. There is difference between Sound and Noise . As we
differentiate both, Noise turns out to be something which is not desirable and completely unwanted
by people who bear it. Unlike noise, sound is not a disturbance. When the sound becomes
unreasonable, it becomes noise.
Noise is a result of energy which is transmitted by cyclic series of compressions and rare fractions
from a surface which has vibration in itself. The energy which comes out is the mechanical energy.
Through whichever material it would pass, it would cause Noise in that too.
The above stated is the simple definition of NOISE but legally if we want to define Noise, It is
different for different people. Legally, Noise pollutioncan be defined as:
When a person contaminates the atmosphere with the unreasonable sound which is also wrongful
in nature and thereby which interferes or infringes other human being s rights such as right to be
left alone ( Which has been recently inculcated by Supreme court in Right to Privacy) and the
freedom to live his life by his own choice with less noise.
But our Law does not give undue advantage to one and

Obergefell V. Hodges Case Study
Introduction:
The United States is considered a great nation by some. It is a nation filled with monumental
success, wealth, prosperity, opportunity, and in general, one of the most impressive nations in the
world. But, the United States is also filled with hate, discrimination, disparity, and a history riddled
with grotesque treatment of those of a varying nature known today as minorities. A minority, is a
culturally, ethnically, or racially distinct group that coexists with but is subordinate to a more
dominant group. In the United States, there are a wide array of minorities like African American,
LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender), and Women of any race or ethnicity. Although,
this a small few of the minority members in the United States, these groups have faced very large
troubles from the majority, which is classified as upper class, white males. African Americans were
made slaves, women couldn t vote, LGBT couldn t marry one another in the early years of this
nation. With the changing times more and more advances in the equal treatment of minorities come
to pass. Of all the groups mentioned, the one that has made a more recent stride is the LGTB
community, which recently has recently obtained the right to marry in every state thanks to the
Obergefell v. Hodges case.
Historical Timeline:
The decision in the Obergefell v. Hodges case is a monumental victory considering the poor
treatment of the members of this minority. Historically, the LGTB community has

How would you like it if someone had access to your personal computer files at any given

The As A Self Regulating Social System
This paper will be a literature review that discusses the notion that, the board of directors (the
collective) as a self regulating social system. This will be achieved by a systematic review of a
collection of works into the area of corporate governance spanning the birth of the industrial
revolution to the modern day. The areas of emphasis will be a view to identifying the key
concepts, issues and laws created to better focus the actions of boards. In addition to identifying the
locations for each of these developments and how this has led to divergent practices across the

This separation of the owners and managers of the business is the central reason for the
existence of what is now referred to as corporate governance. As discussed by Smith (Smith,
1776),Berle (Berle, 1932) and Tricker (Tricker, 2012), this created two differing schools of
though. The first is referred to as agency theory, which proposes that those placed in charge of a
firm will act in their best interests and not those of the shareholders. This argument is countered
by stewardship theory which takes the view that those charged with being directors will seek to
act in the best interests of the shareholders. Clearly both of these cannot exist at the same time, it
would fall to each individual director as to which side of these two arguments or any possible
point between the two extremes they would gravitate towards. As there is clearly very differing
possibilities that can occur based on the personalities of those elected to boards, various forms of
legislation have been introduced in most countries with a view to providing guidance and in some
cases mandating compliance to limit the impacts of poor governance. Taking a geographical
perspective to the evolution of corporate governance and by extension, idea of the board of
directors as a self regulating social system. There has been three differing perspectives, the two
tiered board, legislated compliance and the voluntary or if not why not compliance. The reasons for

Funny Country Songs
This is a Top 20 of the most awful, funny Country Music songs ever made. The following list is
an op ed, and is in no way a definitive list. As a matter of fact, there are far too many really
ridiculous country music songs to list, so, any and all lists, along with this one will be purely
speculative. That said, Country Music is a most peculiar genre of musical entertainment. Artists
therein often sing about the most mundane aspects of life, and living. Songs usually include words
like beer, cheating, cowboys, lying, trailers, trucks, whiskey etc. Rest assured, I would never ever
recommend listening to country music to anyone, whether they be friend or foe. In fact if I were
you, reading this, I d be content with appreciating the humor in... Show more content on

Catholic Marriage Vs Anglican Marriage
Marriage is the unification between a man and a woman, instituted and ordained by God, for the
lifelong relationship between one man as husband and one woman as a wife. This is what the
ritual of marriage means in Christian churches. Many people choose not to marry in the Christian
church due to the strict format you have to follow. However, based on my ethnographic results and
research, there are wide ranges of options where marriages in Catholic and Anglican religions can
be adapted to, however; it is directed by their Church authorities to a certain degree.
The introductory rites are similar in both Catholic and Anglican marriages, with some differences.
Catholics have two options on how they walk in. They can either walk down the aisle ... Show more

It is where a couple makes sacred promises to one another and consent to get married to that
particular person. Rings are also exchanged during this time. This richly symbolic action seals
commitment to one another. The giving of consent means you marry each other and that you
make the promise to each other to be ever loving and faithful and bear children. Vows can only
be adapted slightly. This can be the case of my interviewee who chose not to put the word obey
in their vows. The vows were chosen from guides or booklets where they can pick from a
selection of marriage vows. In Anglican weddings, the consent is asked by the celebrant,
addressing the groom and then the bride to love, comfort, honour and protect each other. Couple
with joined hands, facing one another, then exchange vows. They should include keywords
such as to love and to cherish as long as we both live . Rings are also exchanged. My Anglican
interviewees used the church s vows and adapted it a little bit. The exchange of vows and rings
is the main feature for couples, which shows that they are now married and that they are husband
and wife. There is a limited range in changes in Christian weddings. However, there are some
options for people who want to personalise it but only to a certain degree such as the vows. The
church vows are more favourable since it consists of all the necessary things a husband and

Public Order Crimes
Assignment #4Ingrid Victorero
1. What are public order crimes, and how are they different from violent and property crimes?
Explain how moral entrepreneurship affects the public perception of morality and thus the creation
of new public order crimes.
Answer:
Public order crimes are crimes against the public consensus of morality. Sometimes public order
crimes are called victimless crimes, as there is no clear victim that can be identified. A crime
against the public order is quite different than a crime against a person. Violent and property
crimes are a direct victimization against a person. The victim has been affected by violence and
the act has caused a loss of something of value. Moral entrepreneurs can be ... Show more content

For this reason, victimless crimes are often called consensual crimes. One common example of a
victimless crime is prostitution. Offering sexual favors in exchange for money is considered a
crime in many places. Both the solicitor and the prostitute can be arrested for violating public
decency laws. If, however, both parties are deemed to have committed the illegal act consensually,
then neither party may be considered victims in the eyes of the law. Prostitution is often not a free
choice. Prostitution is usually accompanied by forms of force or enslavement Most prostitutes use
drugs regularly. Addiction means they must stay to pay for drugs. Pimping, gangsterism; runaway
girls to cities or immigrants who are promised good jobs. Often, the initial loss of innocence was
forced by sexual abuse / rape. Street prostitution becomes trafficking when a pimp uses force, fraud
and/or coercion to maintain control over the person providing commercial sexual services and cause
the person to engage in commercial sex acts. An individual engaged in street prostitution under the
age of 18 is considered a victim of sex trafficking regardless of the presence of force, fraud or
coercion. Unfortunately, when purchasing a prostitute, many buyers don t think about the serious
consequences that come with street sex. Sexually transmitted disease, infidelity, violence, thefts and
many crimes take place with the average prostitute exchange. Wives, husbands and innocent

How Liesel’s Actions Place Her and Others in Dangerous...
Reluctance or stubbornness in ending impulsive actions can have consequences. In the Book
Thief by Markus Zusak, Liesel Meminger s inability to halt her dangerous habits put her and
others lives in dangerous situations. Three main examples of Liesel s dangerous activities are
when she steals books, when she demonstrates kindness at improper times, and when she
disrespects others for her own selfish reasons. In all these examples, there is always one
moment where Liesel places her or others in harm s way and narrowly escapes punishment.
Every time Liesel steals books from people, she consistently places the lives of others at risk. An
example of this is when Liesel is worried about Max dying and wants to steal a book and read it to

Some people perceive kindness in different ways as what they might think seems nice, could be
harmful to others. When Liesel tries to communicate with Max, she does not pause to think that
such an action would put her and Max in danger. On page 513, the book narrates He cried as the
soldiers came and a small collection...Standing, he was whipped . It was Max who was the one
whipped by the soldiers because they saw Liesel hugging and talking to him. Max s life was
placed in danger because Liesel thought she was being kind by talking to him. It is
understandable that she wanted to communicate with Max after a long time of not seeing him,
but the manner in which she conveyed her emotions to him was too obvious to the soldiers
watching. Had Rudy not been quick on his feet to go and help her, she would ve been punished
more for speaking with Max. In addition to the immediate damage done, other people who
witnessed the situation would think that Liesel s family was sympathetic to Jews, something not
considered good at that time. The long term consequences of Liesel s stubbornness to speak with
Max set an even deeper impression to when Hans gave the bread to the Jews and therefore puts
her and her family in more danger. This is another example of Liesel s stubbornness, or perceived
kindness, which place her and others lives in danger. Lastly, there are many small

Descriptive Essay About Hockey
As I walk into the rink for hockey practice I often think about where it all began. I push open the
doors to the lobby, walk down the steps, and get the chills as i feel that familiar cool rink air
against my face. Just before walking into the locker room I ll take a quick glance over at the
freshly resurfaced sheet of ice. Knowing in the back of my head but not always thinking about
how much time i ve actually spent here my whole life. Quickly reminiscing all the years of hard
work and determination i ve put into this single sport, and how much i ve grown on and off the
ice. As i go into the locker room, the same locker room i ve always walked into after every
glorious win and heartbreaking loss, i can faintly hear the sound of laughter and the bass of the
music in the background, sometimes almost nervous as to what i m about to walk in to. I m
greeted by my teammates, already getting dressed for the upcoming practice, with big smiles on
their faces. Almost immediately feeling the intense vibe of the locker room, my heart rate increases
just thinking about getting on the ice. More times than most I find myself rushing to get ready due
to the fact that i get too caught up in talking with teammates. Sometimes i sit and get dressed in
silence because i have too much on my mind. But by the time i get on the ice all of the millions of
thoughts that are running through my mind throughout the day just fade away. To me that s the

Disadvantages Of Unstructured Interview
Interviews are a part of our day to day lives, with interviews being conducted in every other
social interaction. According to Maccoby and Maccoby (as cited in Brinkmann, 2013, p. 2 3) , an
interview is a face to face verbal exchange, in which one person, the interviewer attempts to elicit
information or expression of opinion or belief from another person or persons . However, there is a
difference between interviews conducted in the normal social settings and interviews conducted for
qualitative researchpurposes (Stuckey, 2013).
According to Klenke (2016), qualitative interviewing provides a way of generating empirical data
about the social world of informants asking them to talk about their lives (p. 125). It is a purposeful

And as such unstructured interviews are appropriate for collecting data in narrative research design
(Hennink et al., 2011). One of the primary disadvantages of using the unstructured interview
methods is that, this method is time consuming and produces a lot of data (Alsaawi, 2014).
However, this voluminous data is appropriate in enabling the researcher to understand and get in
depth information on a phenomenon (Bryman, 2016).
Of the various approaches of interviewing, the semi structured interview is the most commonly
used data collecting method in social science research (Brinkman, 2013). It employs both the
structured and unstructured interview methods, meaning that the researcher uses both the open
ended and close ended questions. As such it balances the advantages and disadvantages of both the
structured and unstructured interviewing methods. The semi structured interview can be
administered either face to face, through a questionnaire , via telephone or any other electronic
method such as skype (McIntosh Morse,

Social Media Impact On Gender Equality
Have you ever thought about all of the injustices in the world and said, what can I do to help change
them? Three extraordinary people, Emma Watson, Mother Jones, and Mahatma Gandhi not only
thought these things but went out and took action to stop them. Emma Watson uses her social
media influence to enact change in genderequality. Mother Jones used peaceful protests, such as
marching to inform more individuals on the dark secrets of child labor. And Mahatma Gandhi
developed Satyagraha, the use of non violent civil disobedience to defend racial rights. These three
individuals fought for various human rightsin similar peaceful ways while striving to make an
impact in the world around them.
Emma Watson was appointed UN female ambassador and has been giving speeches and using
her platform in the media to fight for an end to gender inequality since 2014. She says, I started
questioning gender based assumptions when at eight I was confused at being called bossy,
because I wanted to direct the plays we would put on for our parents but the boys were not .
Along with many other occasions throughout her childhood Emma did not understand why she
had to act a certain way just because she was born with a pink blanket and not a blue one. Emma
Watson along with many other women have been faced with this inequality all of their lives, and
Emma states she s one of the lucky ones. My life is a sheer privilege because my parents didn t

1950s Fashion Analysis
Between the stock market crash of 1929 and the end of World War II in 1945, fashion was
forced to take the backseat. In the beginning of the 1950 s, the fashion scene was yet again at the
forefront of western cultures, perhaps more than ever before. With an economic boom, the
decade pushed towards consumerism, a trend that still continues to this day. Once WWII came to
an end, rationing became a thing of the past, as the accessibility of various fabrics became the
norm. It was during the 50 s that department stores gained popularity, providing access to a wide
range of consumer goods from all areas of the world. Having the latest trends was no longer a
concept reserved exclusively for the rich, people everywhere shared loved for fashion (Leaper,
2017). The fashion trends that were created during this period reflected femineity by emphasising
on the female figure. With many new silhouettes emerging, the era became a time of conformity.
Throughout the 50 s, women were expected to look and dress a certain way and many conformed to
this established standard of fashion. With husbands returning from the war, American women were
again expected to focus on their role as housewives. Conformity among women was highly
encouraged, eliminating the need for dramatic styles. The conformity throughout this era highlights
the contrast between the independent flappers of the 20s and the conforming women of the 50 s
and how far the evolution of women s fashion has travelled. Trends: During

Essay on Why Girls Become Strippers
Why Girls Become Strippers
For years men and women alike have wondered the same question, that is, Why do girls become

they got into the world of exotic dancing many women state that money is the main reason,

it, but I don t really have a choice, (See Appendix I.), and only did it as a temporary means of
quick money. Then Tiffany proceeded to tell me in our interview that many girls who are strippers
are people who have become addicted to the money, You get addicted to the money, (
I believed that she was quite a valid source of information because she has worked at around five

This quote shows peoples negative views on the topic of stripping. If you saw her on the streets

There are a lot of arguments going around opposing the implementation of high stakes testing and
vice versa. While doing the synthesis paper and proposal, I have noticed that most sources tend to

I was curious if she has heard about all the arguments opposing the implementation of high stakes
testing and what she thinks about it. Hence, I told her about all the negative arguments
surrounding high stakes testing that I have read or heard before. Mostly regarding its unfair
nature to a particular group of people. Some of the arguments include how standardized tests are
unfair because some students may experience test anxiety and how students attending poorly
funded schools may not get the exact same materials for the standardized tests as the other
students attending relatively better funded schools. Then, I asked Barbara for her opinions on
these arguments. In my opinion, her response was really detailed and very convincing. She told
me that this is the reason admissions offices apply an individual holistic review process.
Standardized tests are important, but they are not everything. Her advice for students that
experience test anxiety is, don t stress over it too much, you should just try your best . Barbara
also mentioned that college admissions offices still require standardized test scores for their
application, because they believe that these tests are a very good indicator of if a student is
academically prepared for a college s curriculum. She also pointed out that standardized tests, such
as SATs and ACTs, do a really good job of interweaving all the important

A prime example of this is Seita and Setsuko s female cousin. There are several mentions during
a portion of the film about her status as a worker. Her mother, Seita and Setsuko s aunt, believes
it to be patriotic and work toward the country and war effort. There is nobility in working for the
war, in it as a man of the military or on home soil as a woman. The aunt makes her opinion about
this abundantly clear; her critique is hard to ignore. Her grueling dogging of the main
protagonists also is a critique of gender roles. What she says is most often just as important as
how she says it. Her tone is often militant even in nature, again emphasizing the importance of
the war. She is a motivator and a drill sergeant. Japanese soil is as much a war zone as the places
of actual war. Her role in the household is scattered with masculine traits. Setsuko s and Seita s
hiatus of habitation under their aunt s roof enabled a sense of independence happiness not seen
before for Seita and Setusko. For example, she has Seita sell his mother s kimono for rice. Control
of finances is a facet of the male gender role. Yet she convinced Seita to sell the clothing with
ease. In this is evidence that a woman with a set of masculine role traits is worth more or
possesses greater power than a feminized male. In the end however, this double standard still
exhibits a sense of inferiority for the female gender because a woman must change from what

A Comparison Of Hirschi s Social Bonding Theory

social bonds, which were attachments, commitment, involvement, and belief. According to Hirschi

Attachment is often defined as an emotional connection to other individuals such as parents,
teachers, and friends. Hirschi s second social bond is defined as commitment. This bond states that
if an individual is dedicated and concerned about their investment in conventional activates they are
less likely to engage in illegal acts (Hirschi, 1969). Furthermore, involvement is Hirschi s third

Southern Culture And The Circumstances Of The War
Southern culture and the circumstances of the war fostered an environment where military officials
who could distinguish themselves, especially those with values that most coincided with the ideal
southern man, were set up to become the mythologized figures that would eventually become
central to southern history. Jackson and Lee, through their own skill sets and actions during the
war, solidified their respective legacies as a martyr and a leader. In 1861, Jackson was promoted as
brigadier general in the Army of Northern Virginia, where he began to distinguish himself in the
following battles. He gained Lee s trust and as a result, held a fair amount of control over
command (Fredriksen). Jackson gained most of his fame during the Shenandoah Valley Campaign
of 1862, where he employed his signature tactic of hard, forced marches that attempted to outwit the

if possible ( Stonewall Jackson). He believed that despite having smaller numbers, the
Confederacy could defeat the Union in battle if they act aggressive and communicate well (
Shenandoah Valley Campaign ). These tactics promoted him as the most well regarded military
general during the war. In the eyes of many southerners, he was their best hope of succeeding in

Examples Of Loss Of Innocence In A Long Way Gone
We went from children who were afraid of gunshots to now children who were gunshots...
Shooting became just like drinking a glass of water (Barnett, 2012). Ishmael Beah, the main
character and writer of the novel A Long Way Gone is a clear example of the loss of innocence that
war causes. During the Sierra Leone s civil war, Beah is recruited as a child soldier and eventually
turned into a cold blooded killer with no sign of naivety in his body. At a tender age, Beah is
trained to kill, mutilate and terrify dozens of people, which causes him to be bared to a flood of
disturbing scenes; transform into a murderer; loose all sense of emotion; and in time, lose his
innocence. In the novel A Long Way Gone, the reader can view the multiple events

To start with, the story begins when Ishmael and his rap passionate friends are all headed to Mattru
Jong for a talent show, I left home with Junior...and Talloi...to go to the town of Mattru Jong, to
participate in our friends talent show (Beah, p.6). As one can see, he was just a vulnerable,
naive boy before mayhem broke loose around him. Moreover, Ishmael endures an extremely
perilous adventure in the jungle while fleeing war. But even though he evaded real danger for a
while, he was never able to elude his imaginary fears, I felt as if somebody was after me. Often
my shadow would scare me and cause me to run for miles. Everything felt awkwardly brutal.
Even the air seemed to want to attack me and break my neck (Beah, p.49). According to this
situation, Ishmael was nothing more than a scared little boy who is simply running for his life.
Even though this is a good point, it fails to account for the multiple massacres Ishmael contributed
to, ...I angrily pointed my gun into the swamp and shot more people. I shot everything that
moved... (Beah, p.119). How can one be innocent and naive after picking up a gun and using it
against a human being? At the end of the day, guns don t kill people, people kill people and this is
exactly what Ishmael did. He killed. And killed. And

Afghanistan National Reconciliation and Peace Process
Summary:
After decades of war in Afghanistan in late 2001, first attempts have already been made by Afghans
and international organizations to consult the Afghan people on how to build capacities in pace
building which was an encouraging sign. However, the people in general are still too reluctant to
speak about their suffering during the war. Instead, their current priority is to struggle for economic
survival in the highly competitive post conflict reconstruction business with its emerging social
injustice. This pragmatic attitude causes a basic problem. If the past is not addressed, efforts to
build a lasting peace are endangered. As lessons from other post conflict societies have shown,
national reconciliation contributes to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, the new government shall sit policies for a nation wide reconciliation to allow all Afghans
take part in the government.
According to peace conflict resolution studies the strategies for managing potential spoilers of a
peace agreement are necessary. Spoilers are groups that aim to disrupt any peace agreement
either because their interests were not represented or included in the negotiations or because they
perceive themselves to benefit more from ongoing violent conflict. Peace processes often
exclude spoilers because they do indeed aim to disrupt efforts toward peace. The dilemma in any
high level negotiation is whether to include potential and manifest spoilers. If the process includes
both spoilers, they may make it impossible for moderates to make progress in areas where they
find common ground across the lines of conflict. On the other hand, a peace process that excludes
all potential spoilers may not have anyone around the table. If so called spoilers are left out of the
process because they are more difficult to work with, then they often come back later to disrupt the
implementation of an agreement. Excluding potential spoilers can increase their commitment to
violence by removing viable political alternatives (Schirch, Rafiee, Sakhi, 2013).
Conflict issues: A military victory leading to a durable peace in Afghanistanis extremely unlikely.
Current negotiations to end the war in Afghanistan fail to build on lessons

Compare And Contrast Blockbuster Films Vs American Films
American films have been categorized in many different categories called genres. Examples of
genres include action, adventure, drama, romance, thriller, horror, comedy, family, science fiction
and fantasy. All of these examples of genres can be seen in two categories of film: blockbuster and
independent. Both categories have some common themes and also include many differences.
Blockbuster films are what I think of when I think of a movie. Growing up in the 1980s,
Blockbuster films included Ghostbusters, Indiana Jones, E.T., The Goonies and many more action
and adventure movies. Blockbuster films are films that are usually directed and produced through
large studios. These studios usually have the best animation, graphics, scenes and best actors or
actresses. This is mostly due in part to the endless about of money they have to budget for their
films. Hollywood studios have such large pockets that they not only have the best of the best, they
also are able to control many obstacles that independent may face. Obstacles like foreign relations,
advertising and investors. Large budgets allow for Hollywood blockbusters to be shown worldwide
and get the visibility through advertising. Advertising big films is imperative to get people out to
the theatres. Domestic and international investors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The independent films will not have as much of the action as a blockbuster film. They cannot afford
to have the expensive scenes, film in international areas, use computer generated imagery or
employ the biggest named stars. Many independent films have been financially supported by the
cast of the film. Making the result of the film ever more important for the success of all involved.
Because of the lack of funding for independent films the chance of international success is very
slim. Advertising is non existent, so success outside the United States could only come with a star
actor or actresses. (Lewis

What Is The Scale Of Nature In Paradise Lost
Carly Merryman ENGL 328 Stoll 3 October 2014 Paradise Lost: Books V VI Milton s scale of
nature, while appearing linear, allows the creatures within in it to ascend to God by steps,
(V.512). This creates a dynamic scale that would enable a particular being the ability to move up
and down the scale based on its behaviors, and align itself closer to God. However, an animal or a
human can only climb so far. No matter how virtuous an animal was it could never surpass a
human because it is lacking the spiritual essence that God awarded to man. Similarly, a human,
while living, could never attain the same closeness to God as an angel. So while this allows for
some degree of mobility, each sect of the scale is confined within the parameters that God set
forth. If the creation was one first matter all as Raphael says to Adam then that would mean that
all matter came from God. Not only does this reconcile science and religious beliefs because as
Newton s First Law says, Matter can neither be created nor destroyed, but it also asserts that all
matter begins as being inherently good. This explanation disqualifies ex nihlo because as science
says there can be no absolute nothing. Milton s attempts to resolve the religion versus science
issues are made stronger by his references to Galileo and astronomy. But Milton s version of the
creation tackles the problem of absolute nothingness. If there were absolute nothingness before
matter, then that nothingness would have had to

The Homicides Committed By Ortiz
While neutralization and differential association theory both explain the homicides committed by
Ortiz, the elements of differential association provide a more in depth explanation. Ortiz learned
from a very young age what attitudes and values were viewed as acceptable by his gang affiliated
parents and peers. Ortiz was jumped into the 500 Block gangwhen he was only eleven years old.
He was the youngest member of the gang ever allowed in. Considering his role models included
his father, mother, aunt and older brother, which were successful gang members, he did not
observe or experience an adequate exposure to conventional norms. Becoming a gang member
was part of the family business. Many generations before Ortiz served in the gang and it had
became a family tradition that Ortiz was expected to carry on. His friends were also in the gang
because they lived in the same housing project as he did. The housing project that the gang formed
due to where Ortiz was raised. The gang thrived from the poverty and disparity that was present in
the housing development.
The age of onset, duration, intensity and frequency are important in analyzing the influence on
Ortiz s learned behaviors. Differential association states that with overexposure to non law abiding
attitudes and values, such as the ones present in the 500 Block gang and at the home of Ortiz,
comes the learned behavior that committing homicide is acceptable. Like any other learned
behavior, Ortiz learned that

empathetic boy who was interested in philosophy religion and read widely. In 1900 Jung joined the

Jung had been elected president of the International Psychoanalytic Society in 1911 and
consequently he resigned from the society in 1914. Their Theory/Therapy A former student of
Freud, it is clear that Jungs approach toward analytical psychology is often expressed through the
differences in his theoretical assumptions compared to Freud and although they agreed on much it
is interesting to see the departures of Jungian psychology: One of Jungs early achievements was to
make a distinction between two personality types; extraverted (people with an outward looking
attitude) and introverted people with inward looking attitudes). Jung later went on to classify the
four main functions of the mind thinking, feeling, sensation, and intuition an d stated that one or
more of these functions are dominant in any personality. Results of this study were embodied in
Psychological Types, 1923). Regarding the theory of Libido, Jung purports that the Libido was not
purely sexual energy but believed it to be Psychic energy, capable of motivating the individual
creatively, intellectually and spiritually. He also believed that libido had an important function for
seeking pleasure and resolving conflict. Regarding the theory of the unconscious, similar to Freud,
Jung recognised that the psyche consists of separate but interconnected systems; comprising of two
main spheres, the conscious and the unconscious. Furthermore, Jung divided the unconscious into

Essay about Alfred Hitchcock s film Psycho
Alfred Hitchcock s film Psycho
Psycho, by Alfred Hitchcock, was shocking for its time. Made in the 1960 s when film censorship
was very tight to today s standards, Hitchcock pushed the limits of what could be shown and did
with psycho things that had never been done before. The cinematic art, symbolism and sub
conscious images in this film were brilliant for the time and still are now. Realised for this, psycho
has been copied in many ways and the things that made it great have become very clichГ©d.
From the very first scene in psycho, it is clear that the viewer will be sucked into the world of
Marion Crane and Norman Bates. The opening shot is an aerial shot from the sky, pausing
momentarily and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Taxidermy is a very big part of the film, it hints to the ending, creates a scary atmosphere,
describes Norman s character and is used before something evil happens. The stuffed birds prey
down on Norman and seem to haunt him (as his mother does).
They mirror the way the dark, gloomy, gothic house watches over the hotel and also how Mother
psychologically watches over Norman, this creates suspense as the audience wonder how he will
use the tension he is building up.
Another example is when Arbogaust gets killed and when Norman is taking his mother downstairs,
we watch over this scene from the top corner, as the birds do in Norman s office this implies that
Norman is haunted by something watching over him. These examples foreshadow the ending of
the film and the real situation between Norman and Mother.
The music builds a lot of tension and suspense in psycho, it tells us that something is going to
happen very soon and we get prepared for it, the lack of music can make a scene seem calm and
normal, which then contrasts with the loud scary music that starts quickly as the scary part
happens. The audience are unprepared and scared. An example of this in the famous shower
scene where Marion is killed. This is my favourite scene as every symbol is shown so obviously
and we know exactly what is going to happen and yet we are powerless to stop it, the

Jack the ripper? Or jill the ripper?
Inspector Abberline who was on the jack the ripper case, thought that it was a woman who had
done it the entire time. The theory started after one of the murders of a woman named Mary
Kelly. Mary Kelly was murdered between the hours of 2 and 3 in the morning. Yet Caroline
Maxwell had claimed to see her twice that morning after the time she was said to have passed.
She claimed to have seen Mary Kelly at around 8am looking sick. And again around an hour later
talking to some man outside the pub house. It would be very easy for a midwife to pull of being
jack the ripper. It was not unusual for a midwife to be walking around all hours of the night, let
alone have blood on her clothes because people would have just thought it was from her working.
And she could walk in broad daylight with no one questioning her because everyone was looking
for a man. And not a woman.
Mary Pearcey the only woman suspect at the time
Here is some of the background on Mary Pearcey and to why they picked her as a suspect at the
time of the killings.
Mary lived next door to her neighbors Phoebe and her husband. Well it turns out that Phoebe s
husband is having an affair with Mary. One day Mary invited Phoebe over for tea at around 4pm.
When Phoebe s husband was at home he heard the sound of breaking glass coming from Mary s
house. He shouted over the fence to see if she was alright but no one ever ... Show more content on

Theme Of A Hunger Artist
Kafka s Hunger Art: A Study of Fictional Autobiography in A Hunger Artist In A Hunger Artist ,
Franz Kafka utilizes his skill as a writer and a poet to allegorically tell the reader of his own
suffering through a tale of an artist s slavery to his craft. Kafka s own life parallels the plot and
characters of this short story in elements such as starvation, obsession, and loss of will as they are
explored in the plot of this work. Whether intentional or not, his comments on isolation, suffering,
and art become a mirror to his own psyche and allow the reader a look into the mind of the genius
who penned the work. The deteriortation of the title character in A Hunger Artist

result of his slavery to writing. Writing became his vice for the world around him as he struggled
to cope with realties beyond his understanding: much like hunger as a vice for the artist s distaste
for food. As the story draws to a close, mind begins to entertain the idea that Kafka himself was in

Paper on Amnesia
Amnesia
Amnesia is typically defined as partial or total loss of memory. The occurrence of amnesia can
arise at any age. Individuals who suffer from amnesia typically remain lucid and preserve their
sense of self. Amnesiacs can obtain a perfectly normal appearance despite the amnesia. Moreover,
they also have the capacity to read and comprehend words. Based on these facts, researchers have
arrived at the conclusion that more than one area in the brain is used for storing facts.
One type of amnesia is Anterograde Amnesia. Anterograde amnesia is defined as severe amnesia
and causes superfluous difficulties for those suffering from it. Anterograde amnesia is when people

Another theory held by Anna Freud as to why we do not remember our childhood memories is
because children and adults organize memories in different ways based on their brain s
development. While still others believe that children begin remembering facts and events once they
have accumulated enough to be able to relate experiences to each other.
Another type of amnesia that is unusual but not uncommon is transient global amnesia or TGA
for short. TGA is the sudden onset of forgetfulness and confusion. It usually occurs following
physical exertion. During a severe attack the victim experiences total disorientation except for
their own identity. This is combined with a mild form of retrograde amnesia which subsides
when the attack is complete. Attacks usually last anywhere from thirty to sixty minutes and rarely
last to be longer than twelve hours. There is no other alteration in consciousness or obvious
neurological problems. The person s behavior is otherwise normal and they usually recover
completely with in twenty four hours. People suffering from TGA generally have a complete and
rapid recovery. The only time in which a patient is treated for TGA is if it is related to
atherosclerosis, which is poor cerebral circulation.
A case was reported in London in 1997 by a man in his sixties who had regularly suffered from
migraines. He only experienced amnesia when he was having sex. He would ask

Three Reasons For The Allies s Success In The Invasion
D Day was a major event in history and there are lots of reasons why the Allies had success in the
invasion. In this essay I will focus on three reasons I believe to be the most significant to victory.
Those reasons are Air Supremacy, Unique and adapted tanks and Operation Fortitude South. D Day
tanks were specialised to fit the environment of Normandy while still being effective in combat. Air
Supremacy was crucial to distract the Germans with the gliders, paratroopers, bombers, and fake
dummies. Operation Fortitude South was a massive and successful deception plan to confuse the
German into thinking the invasion would come at the narrowest part of the channel.
Air Supremacy was crucial for supporting the invasion and confusing the germans. It was something
the Allies needed to have a successful invasion. Before dawn on the 6th of June 1944, paratroopers
and gliders were deployed inland above Normandy. Only a few hours later the beach landings
arrived which totally confused ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

many different deception plans. Fortitude South was commanded by General Bernard Montgomery
and the 21st Army group. Being commanded by such an important general, the Nazis fell for the
rouse and fortified the area around Calais. Within Fortitude there were makeshift planes, inflatable
tanks and artillery as well as fake equipment. The Germans took the bait mostly because Fortitude
was located around the narrowest part of the channel where it would be the easiest place of all to
invade from. The Nazis actually thought at first that the preparation for the actual invasion was
rouse. This plan played an important role in the invasion because it allowed the Allied Powers to
catch the Germans by surprise and to completely disorientate them thinking that the actual invasion
was just a raid but they realised too

Advantage Of Millennials
Broadcast journalist and reporter Morley Safer once stated, The workplace has become a
psychological battlefield, and the millennials have the upper hand because they are tech savvy, with
every gadget imaginable like an extension of their bodies. They multitask, talk, walk, listen, and
type, and text. And their priorities are simple: they come first (Safer). Not everyone sees the
benefits of coexisting with millennials or Generation Y in the workplace. There are several factors
that often give older generations a pause when it comes to welcoming millennials in the workplace,
but if they are given the chance, millennials can bring major advantages to businesses and
corporations. Millennials commonly bring better communication to achieve a shared goal, a more
effective and near constant use of technology, and they are more diverse and racially tolerant than
other generations. There are conflicting opinions about millennials capabilities when speaking and
communicating with adults because they are, in some ways, considered the technology generation.
Millennials frequently communicate through phone calls, Facebook, and text messages, and tend to
have little to no in person communication with their peers or elders. Some feel that millennials do
not have the communication skills that are needed in a work environment because of this. Along
with being considered lazy, narcissistic and entitled millennials have also been named the toughest
generation to work with. In

The Sapphires And The Stolen Generation
Broken Memories, Broken People, Broken Dreams This narrative text is based off the film The
Sapphires set in Australia in the 1960s. In The Sapphires we see a flashback of Kay s childhood
and how she is part of the Stolen Generation. I will use this storyline as the starting point for my

experiences they faced. However, I need to know extra information so I will do further research
about the Stolen Generation, in order to give an accurate description of their experiences. This
narrative is targeted towards everyone. It is designed to inform them about the Stolen Generation
and how they changed when forcibly moved to an Aborigines White Institution. This piece of
text will be written in a diary entry form. I will use informal and conversational language. I will
also use descriptive language when describing objects and sceneries throughout the text. The
blazing light was shining in my face and a slight breeze blew through the arched windows. I
spotted an open chest in the attic, whilst spring cleaning. The outside rim of the box was covered
in dust and cobbled webs; the hinge was rusty, making a creak noise against the ghost quiet room.
Rummaging my hand around the chest there was a scratchy substance digging against my fingers.
As the sun faded from my sight I lifted up the mysterious object. It was an old rustic book; I

  • 2. Religious Spaces, By Thomas Tweed Religious spaces, characterized by Thomas Tweed, are differentiated, interrelated, and kinetic. As a sacred city with spiritual significance in three major religions, Jerusalem is depicted thoroughly in the Hebrew Bible and illustrated as one of the spaces Tweed defines. The Bible emphasizes that Jerusalemwas chosen by God and honored by Israelites, which differentiates it as a special, singular space; the description of Solomon s Temple shows that the Holy City was interrelated to economic power and involved in the judgment of civil cases. Moreover, the conquest, development and destruction of Jerusalem illustrate the city as a kinetic space, reflecting the unsettled history of the Iron Age. These characteristics all make Jerusalem a religious and political center from the ancient Near East time to present day, guiding the footsteps of believers around the world. In his essay Space , Thomas Tweed characterizes spaces for religious practices as differentiated locales that are sensually encountered and imaginatively figured. They are more or less special, singular, or set apart from undifferentiated or unnamed generic places (Tweed 2011: 119). He also states that spaces are always interrelated with nature and with culture, and they are shaped by political processes, social relations and economic forces. Furthermore, defining religions as confluence of organic cultural flows about dwelling and crossing, about finding a place and moving across ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

From this point in time families thrived and religious festivals were held throughout the year which made the golden age of Pericles a peaceful time where citizens could relax and luxuriate in their lives. The age of pericles was the strongest position in the history of Ancient Greece. Pericles did a lot for the Athenians to improve their humanity and welfare. The film narrates the life of the violent and manipulative protagonist, Alex DeLarge, and his friends. Alex and his friends, Pete, Georgie, and Dim, commit horrific, demeaning acts of violence, including rape and destruction of property, simply for the thrill. Once their regular activities become a bore to them, Alexs friends suggest participating in even worse acts, which completely outrages Alex at the apparent threat to his power. After Alex reasserts his dominance over his group of criminals with the use of his words, he decides to prove his dominance with a physical act. This results in Alex murdering a woman, who was known simply as the Cat Lady, which lands him a 14 year prison sentence, and is now referred as Prisoner #655321. There are many intelligent people who are not wealthy, well educated, or successful. To be smart and to be intelligent are two very different things. Many students who get good grades are smart, but not intelligent. There are doctors who are smart, but not very intelligent. Many times a student will memorize what they need to know on the test. They will not truly memorize the material because they will soon forget it after the test. Since test taking is generally the only way that people are evaluated upon, this leads to society having more smart kids than intelligent ones. Kids will often get into college because they are smart, but many times they can t solve a complex problem because they lack that intellect to do so. There are many intelligent people who never go to college because they have an idea that they need to get out to the world. This is possibly why many inventors and successful college dropouts are innovative individuals that start a business to help them gain wealth. There are far more smart people than there are intelligent ones. Even though being smart is different from being intelligent, individuals can be both smart and intelligent. Individuals can also be neither smart nor intelligent. There are people like Dr. Ben Carson and Karl Marx who are both smart and intelligent. Dr. Carson was an individual who grew up in the ghettos of Detroit and through books he was able to gain much knowledge and do well in school. • 9. The Negative Effects Of Eurocentric Beauty Standards... Despite the claim that everyone is beautiful, barely 20% of the models in New York, London, Paris, and Milan for fashion week are people of color (Wilson, 2014). Eurocentric beauty standards have a negative impact on countless people around the world who do not fit into these set values. These standards are often times valued over non European features, and this impacts children at a younger age than some may believe. It is not uncommon for people with lighter skin to be more valued than those who have darker skin. A prime example of the effects of Eurocentric beauty standards around the world is shown in A White Woman of Color by Julia Alvarez: The oldest sister had the darkest coloring, with very curly hair and coarse features. She looked the most like Papi s side of the family and was considered the least pretty. [...] But the pride and joy of the family was the baby. She was the one who made heads turn and strangers approach asking to feel her silken hair. She was white white, an adjective that was repeated in describing her color as if to deepen the shade of white. (Alvarez, 1998, p. 131). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 10. Human Induced Global Climate Change Essay Human Induced Global Climate Change Worldwide temperatures are rising, carbon dioxide is at a hazardous level, ocean acidification, atmosphere boundary shifts, and extreme events are just a few of the worldwide climate changes happening near and far. It is a controversial issue whether it is taking place in the present velocity because of nature or man. However, global climate changes happen naturally, but they ought not to happen at this increased rapidity; therefore, human activity is a great cause that global climate changeis happening at an expanded rate. The greatest contribution of human action is the combustion of fossil fuels, which is one of the primary reasons why the carbon dioxidelevels are nearing high hazard strata. Thus, the scientific confirmation supports that the rise in carbon dioxide levels is significantly generated by people, not nature, and people are ultimately the largest contributor to the atmospheric changes; thus, human beings should implement changes to their energy sources and modify agricultural production in order to lessen the quantity of carbon dioxide emitted into the aura at the extraordinary rate it currently is passing. Fossil fuels are of course produced from coal, petroleum, gas, diesel fuel, and natural gasses. Carbon dioxide is one of the many gasses that are emitted from the fossil fuel burning, and carbon dioxide is responsible for trapping heat in the earth s atmosphere. Nevertheless, carbon dioxide is naturally ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I walked up the cold metal stairs, leading to the carrier deck. Something was wrong. The pilots were doing their flight checks, and there were men sitting at the ship guns, looking up, as if expecting something. I quickly ran to my F 18 Hornet, and climbed into the cockpit. Wasp ran after me, and climbed into the back. I turned on the ignition and looked at my flight checklist. The right wind shuddered, and a white sidewinder missile shot out of my plane s right wing and went inside the Mig 29. Literally. Then it exploded. I had to pull out of the way as the flames stood in the way of my path. I turned back to the carrier, so that I could land. As the runway came closer to us, I lowered the flaps, and lowered the tailhook. The plane came down, and touched the runway softly. Then, the arresting wire yanked the plane to a full stop in 1 second. I parked the plane and climbed out. A couple of officers came and patted me on the back. I didn t care, though. • 12. A Study On A Television A television I am usually exposed to during this year is located in a room dedicated for students who want to relax or study on the side. This television is located in the lounge of an Oakes College residential hall. The television set is located above eye level in the right hand corner as you enter the room. Below the set, is a VCR with the remote control on top of it. As for the lounge layout, there are three sofas that are placed in a rectangular shape all of them facing the television. In the middle are two rectangular shaped tables used to place stuff when one is watching tv. On the other side of the room, are three full size tables placed next to each other to create a study space for any resident in the residential hall. A few of my fellow neighbors are on their laptops studying or on their social medias glancing a few moments at what s on the television screen. Unlike those sitting in front of the table those who are sitting at the couches are gazing at the different programs being transmitted on the television screen. All of us seem to be watching the television for the same purpose as a pure form of entertainment to relieve stress from being a student. Each time a commercial starts mostly everyone go on their phones or use that time to go to the restroom as well as change the channels. The entrance to the room becomes a place for decisions as one has to decide to either study or relax by watching television. This moment is similar to what Anna McCarthy mentions ... There are many classic definition of Noise and thereby caused noise pollution but this is apt to understand the importance of emerging issue which has not been addressed from so long. Noise is an outcome of developments. There is difference between Sound and Noise . As we differentiate both, Noise turns out to be something which is not desirable and completely unwanted by people who bear it. Unlike noise, sound is not a disturbance. When the sound becomes unreasonable, it becomes noise. Noise is a result of energy which is transmitted by cyclic series of compressions and rare fractions from a surface which has vibration in itself. The energy which comes out is the mechanical energy. Through whichever material it would pass, it would cause Noise in that too. The above stated is the simple definition of NOISE but legally if we want to define Noise, It is different for different people. Legally, Noise pollutioncan be defined as: When a person contaminates the atmosphere with the unreasonable sound which is also wrongful in nature and thereby which interferes or infringes other human being s rights such as right to be left alone ( Which has been recently inculcated by Supreme court in Right to Privacy) and the freedom to live his life by his own choice with less noise. • 14. Obergefell V. Hodges Case Study Introduction: The United States is considered a great nation by some. It is a nation filled with monumental success, wealth, prosperity, opportunity, and in general, one of the most impressive nations in the world. But, the United States is also filled with hate, discrimination, disparity, and a history riddled with grotesque treatment of those of a varying nature known today as minorities. A minority, is a culturally, ethnically, or racially distinct group that coexists with but is subordinate to a more dominant group. In the United States, there are a wide array of minorities like African American, LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender), and Women of any race or ethnicity. Although, this a small few of the minority members in the United States, these groups have faced very large troubles from the majority, which is classified as upper class, white males. African Americans were made slaves, women couldn t vote, LGBT couldn t marry one another in the early years of this nation. With the changing times more and more advances in the equal treatment of minorities come to pass. As discussed by Smith (Smith, 1776),Berle (Berle, 1932) and Tricker (Tricker, 2012), this created two differing schools of though. The first is referred to as agency theory, which proposes that those placed in charge of a firm will act in their best interests and not those of the shareholders. This argument is countered by stewardship theory which takes the view that those charged with being directors will seek to act in the best interests of the shareholders. Clearly both of these cannot exist at the same time, it would fall to each individual director as to which side of these two arguments or any possible point between the two extremes they would gravitate towards. As there is clearly very differing possibilities that can occur based on the personalities of those elected to boards, various forms of legislation have been introduced in most countries with a view to providing guidance and in some cases mandating compliance to limit the impacts of poor governance. Taking a geographical perspective to the evolution of corporate governance and by extension, idea of the board of directors as a self regulating social system. In all these examples, there is always one moment where Liesel places her or others in harm s way and narrowly escapes punishment. We are in the period where high stakes tests are one of the largest aspects in education. It has been like that for a few decades now. A large group of people seem to think that this is the perfect time for change. There are a lot of arguments going around opposing the implementation of high stakes testing and vice versa. While doing the synthesis paper and proposal, I have noticed that most sources tend to talk about the collateral damage of high stakes testing instead of its perks. As a result, I decided to interview an admissions officer, because I needed to hear from someone that should support the use of high stakes testing. I needed to be able to understand both... Hence, I told her about all the negative arguments surrounding high stakes testing that I have read or heard before. Mostly regarding its unfair nature to a particular group of people. Some of the arguments include how standardized tests are unfair because some students may experience test anxiety and how students attending poorly funded schools may not get the exact same materials for the standardized tests as the other students attending relatively better funded schools. Then, I asked Barbara for her opinions on these arguments. In my opinion, her response was really detailed and very convincing. She told me that this is the reason admissions offices apply an individual holistic review process. Standardized tests are important, but they are not everything. Her advice for students that experience test anxiety is, don t stress over it too much, you should just try your best . Barbara also mentioned that college admissions offices still require standardized test scores for their application, because they believe that these tests are a very good indicator of if a student is academically prepared for a college s curriculum. She also pointed out that standardized tests, such as SATs and ACTs, do a really good job of interweaving all the important ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Various facets of the country were tested and driven to their limits. During the occupation, race and gender began to evolve in ways that had not exactly be seen before. War had a tremendous impact on every part of the life of a Japanese citizen. Both men and women began to fill roles that were completely novel to them. Race became a part of the definition of who people were. As the war progressed and American troops landed on Japanese soil for occupation, more drastic changes occurred. Economic hardship and rations befell the people of the Land of the Rising Sun. Prostitution began to rear its ugly head and rape transpired. Through memory, research, and vivid... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A prime example of this is Seita and Setsuko s female cousin. There are several mentions during a portion of the film about her status as a worker. Her mother, Seita and Setsuko s aunt, believes it to be patriotic and work toward the country and war effort. There is nobility in working for the war, in it as a man of the military or on home soil as a woman. The aunt makes her opinion about this abundantly clear; her critique is hard to ignore. Her grueling dogging of the main protagonists also is a critique of gender roles. What she says is most often just as important as how she says it. Her tone is often militant even in nature, again emphasizing the importance of the war. She is a motivator and a drill sergeant. Japanese soil is as much a war zone as the places of actual war. Her role in the household is scattered with masculine traits. Setsuko s and Seita s hiatus of habitation under their aunt s roof enabled a sense of independence happiness not seen before for Seita and Setusko. For example, she has Seita sell his mother s kimono for rice. Control of finances is a facet of the male gender role. Yet she convinced Seita to sell the clothing with ease. In this is evidence that a woman with a set of masculine role traits is worth more or possesses greater power than a feminized male. In the end however, this double standard still exhibits a sense of inferiority for the female gender because a woman must change from what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Attachment is often defined as an emotional connection to other individuals such as parents, teachers, and friends. Hirschi s second social bond is defined as commitment. Southern Culture And The Circumstances Of The War Southern culture and the circumstances of the war fostered an environment where military officials who could distinguish themselves, especially those with values that most coincided with the ideal southern man, were set up to become the mythologized figures that would eventually become central to southern history. Jackson and Lee, through their own skill sets and actions during the war, solidified their respective legacies as a martyr and a leader. In 1861, Jackson was promoted as brigadier general in the Army of Northern Virginia, where he began to distinguish himself in the following battles. He gained Lee s trust and as a result, held a fair amount of control over command (Fredriksen). Jackson gained most of his fame during the Shenandoah Valley Campaign of 1862, where he employed his signature tactic of hard, forced marches that attempted to outwit the Union ( Robert E. Lee). Jackson s strategy was to Always mystify, mislead, and surprise the enemy, if possible ( Stonewall Jackson). He believed that despite having smaller numbers, the Confederacy could defeat the Union in battle if they act aggressive and communicate well ( Shenandoah Valley Campaign ). These tactics promoted him as the most well regarded military general during the war. Thus, the new government shall sit policies for a nation wide reconciliation to allow all Afghans take part in the government. According to peace conflict resolution studies the strategies for managing potential spoilers of a peace agreement are necessary. Spoilers are groups that aim to disrupt any peace agreement either because their interests were not represented or included in the negotiations or because they perceive themselves to benefit more from ongoing violent conflict. Peace processes often exclude spoilers because they do indeed aim to disrupt efforts toward peace. The dilemma in any high level negotiation is whether to include potential and manifest spoilers. If the process includes both spoilers, they may make it impossible for moderates to make progress in areas where they find common ground across the lines of conflict. On the other hand, a peace process that excludes all potential spoilers may not have anyone around the table. If so called spoilers are left out of the process because they are more difficult to work with, then they often come back later to disrupt the implementation of an agreement. Excluding potential spoilers can increase their commitment to violence by removing viable political alternatives (Schirch, Rafiee, Sakhi, 2013). All of these examples of genres can be seen in two categories of film: blockbuster and independent. Both categories have some common themes and also include many differences. Blockbuster films are what I think of when I think of a movie. Growing up in the 1980s, Blockbuster films included Ghostbusters, Indiana Jones, E.T., The Goonies and many more action and adventure movies. Blockbuster films are films that are usually directed and produced through large studios. These studios usually have the best animation, graphics, scenes and best actors or actresses. Hollywood studios have such large pockets that they not only have the best of the best, they also are able to control many obstacles that independent may face. • 45. What Is The Scale Of Nature In Paradise Lost Carly Merryman ENGL 328 Stoll 3 October 2014 Paradise Lost: Books V VI Milton s scale of nature, while appearing linear, allows the creatures within in it to ascend to God by steps, (V.512). This creates a dynamic scale that would enable a particular being the ability to move up and down the scale based on its behaviors, and align itself closer to God. However, an animal or a human can only climb so far. No matter how virtuous an animal was it could never surpass a human because it is lacking the spiritual essence that God awarded to man. Similarly, a human, while living, could never attain the same closeness to God as an angel. So while this allows for some degree of mobility, each sect of the scale is confined within the parameters that God set forth. If the creation was one first matter all as Raphael says to Adam then that would mean that all matter came from God. Not only does this reconcile science and religious beliefs because as Newton s First Law says, Matter can neither be created nor destroyed, but it also asserts that all matter begins as being inherently good. This explanation disqualifies ex nihlo because as science says there can be no absolute nothing. Milton s attempts to resolve the religion versus science issues are made stronger by his references to Galileo and astronomy. But Milton s version of the creation tackles the problem of absolute nothingness. If there were absolute nothingness before matter, then that nothingness would have had to ... Ortiz was jumped into the 500 Block gangwhen he was only eleven years old. He was the youngest member of the gang ever allowed in. The cinematic art, symbolism and sub conscious images in this film were brilliant for the time and still are now. Taxidermy is a very big part of the film, it hints to the ending, creates a scary atmosphere, describes Norman s character and is used before something evil happens. The stuffed birds prey down on Norman and seem to haunt him (as his mother does). They mirror the way the dark, gloomy, gothic house watches over the hotel and also how Mother psychologically watches over Norman, this creates suspense as the audience wonder how he will use the tension he is building up. Another example is when Arbogaust gets killed and when Norman is taking his mother downstairs, we watch over this scene from the top corner, as the birds do in Norman s office this implies that Norman is haunted by something watching over him. These examples foreshadow the ending of the film and the real situation between Norman and Mother. In this essay I will focus on three reasons I believe to be the most significant to victory. Those reasons are Air Supremacy, Unique and adapted tanks and Operation Fortitude South. D Day tanks were specialised to fit the environment of Normandy while still being effective in combat. Air Supremacy was crucial to distract the Germans with the gliders, paratroopers, bombers, and fake dummies. Operation Fortitude South was a massive and successful deception plan to confuse the German into thinking the invasion would come at the narrowest part of the channel. Air Supremacy was crucial for supporting the invasion and confusing the germans. It was something the Allies needed to have a successful invasion. Before dawn on the 6th of June 1944, paratroopers and gliders were deployed inland above Normandy. Only a few hours later the beach landings arrived which totally confused ... Fortitude South was commanded by General Bernard Montgomery and the 21st Army group. Being commanded by such an important general, the Nazis fell for the rouse and fortified the area around Calais. Within Fortitude there were makeshift planes, inflatable tanks and artillery as well as fake equipment. The Germans took the bait mostly because Fortitude was located around the narrowest part of the channel where it would be the easiest place of all to invade from. The Nazis actually thought at first that the preparation for the actual invasion was rouse. This plan played an important role in the invasion because it allowed the Allied Powers to catch the Germans by surprise and to completely disorientate them thinking that the actual invasion was just a raid but they realised too ... • 55. Advantage Of Millennials Broadcast journalist and reporter Morley Safer once stated, The workplace has become a psychological battlefield, and the millennials have the upper hand because they are tech savvy, with every gadget imaginable like an extension of their bodies. They multitask, talk, walk, listen, and type, and text. And their priorities are simple: they come first (Safer). Not everyone sees the benefits of coexisting with millennials or Generation Y in the workplace. There are several factors that often give older generations a pause when it comes to welcoming millennials in the workplace, but if they are given the chance, millennials can bring major advantages to businesses and corporations. Millennials commonly bring better communication to achieve a shared goal, a more effective and near constant use of technology, and they are more diverse and racially tolerant than other generations. There are conflicting opinions about millennials capabilities when speaking and communicating with adults because they are, in some ways, considered the technology generation. Millennials frequently communicate through phone calls, Facebook, and text messages, and tend to have little to no in person communication with their peers or elders. Some feel that millennials do not have the communication skills that are needed in a work environment because of this. Along with being considered lazy, narcissistic and entitled millennials have also been named the toughest generation to work with. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. The Sapphires And The Stolen Generation Broken Memories, Broken People, Broken Dreams This narrative text is based off the film The Sapphires set in Australia in the 1960s. In The Sapphires we see a flashback of Kay s childhood and how she is part of the Stolen Generation. I will use this storyline as the starting point for my diary entries. The film gave me background knowledge on Stolen Generation and their experiences they faced. However, I need to know extra information so I will do further research about the Stolen Generation, in order to give an accurate description of their experiences. This narrative is targeted towards everyone. It is designed to inform them about the Stolen Generation and how they changed when forcibly moved to an Aborigines White Institution. This piece of text will be written in a diary entry form. I will use informal and conversational language. I will also use descriptive language when describing objects and sceneries throughout the text. The blazing light was shining in my face and a slight breeze blew through the arched windows. I spotted an open chest in the attic, whilst spring cleaning. The outside rim of the box was covered in dust and cobbled webs; the hinge was rusty, making a creak noise against the ghost quiet room. Rummaging my hand around the chest there was a scratchy substance digging against my fingers. As the sun faded from my sight I lifted up the mysterious object. It was an old rustic book; I flipped through the delicate pages, every touch made a crinkling ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
