Data processing is simply the conversion of raw data to
meaningful information. It is concerned with editing, coding,
classifying, tabulating and charting and diagramming research
data.

Once all your data is entered in SPSS, run
frequencies on all your variables to check you’ve
not got an obscure number within your data.
 Go to analyse > Descriptive Statistics >
frequencies.
 Move all your variables to the right hand box and
click ok.
Check there are no unusual or unexpected values within
each of your variables.
The data grid has two views of the data,
the Data tab view of the actual data and
the Variables tab view of the data structure.

The cells of the Data tab contain the data values of each
variable for each record. The variables are the columns and the
records are the rows. The cell is the intersection of the column
and the record. The Data tab displays the actual data values
and lets you:
 Change data values
 Cut, copy, paste and delete data values
 Undo/Redo or Discard all changes
 Add, insert and delete records
 Sort records by variable values
 Add, insert and delete variables
The Variables tab contains the descriptions and
attributes for each variable of the data file. Columns are
the variable attributes and the rows are the variables.
The Variables tab lets you:
 Cut, copy, paste and delete variable attribute values
 Undo/Redo or Discard all changes
 Add, insert and delete variable
 Click Transform> recode into different
variables.
 Double click on variable rank to move it to
the input variable > output variable box. In
this output variable area, give the new
variable the name rank indicator, then click
change.
 Click the old and new values button.
 Click ok.
 Click data > split file.
 Select the option organize output by groups.
 Double click the variable to move it to the
group based on filed.
 When you are finished, click ok.
Thank you…
