Reflection On Service Learning Activities
Introduction For my service learning project I completed hours at Holiday Brook Farm. Within
this paper I will relate my internship to my bioregion. An overview of the business itself is
included along with why it is important to my bioregion. An inquiry of what was done at the
farm for my project. This includes my expectations, if those expectations were met, how it s
related to class, etc. An abbreviated review of literature that includes background information,
history, etc. related to my project. A log of hours along with field notes and Kate s signature is
included. A section of my possible resume is included describing tasks that I was responsible for
throughout the service learning. Finally, a wrap up of the project, if it was beneficial, what I
enjoyed or did not enjoy, and how it s related to my bioregion to conclude.

Bioregionalism gives the large scale geographical boundaries to determine an area, such as the
peaks of a mountain. Bioregionalism is, the idea that societies should be organized on the basis
of local communities, which attempt to provide for their basic needs on the basis of resources
available at the local level (Evanoff, R., O Neil, E.). Evanoff and O Neil prove societies strive
more when they are divided by their natural barriers. Determining the bioregion of an area allows
us to know our watersheds, soil type(s), and mountain ranges. Bioregions are important because it
allows us to know the features of our area. Knowing our soil type allows farmers to know where
their crops will strive or not. Knowing the watersheds allows us to learn how to preserve our water
resource and know where it s coming from. The history of the area, or native culture helps us see
how the region has evolved throughout other human cultures in the

The Simpsons Reflection
Whether you love them, or hate them, The Simpsons a key piece to young adulthood in many
homes around the world. From depicting things such as struggling with disorders, problems with
the boss, or average family life, most North American families are able to relate to the The
Simpsons and that is why we keep crawling back each Sunday night. In the episode Mypods and
Boomsticks, Bart Simpsonmeets a new friend from Jordan named Bashir. After learning they
share many common interest, especially coming to food, Bart and Bashir become such good
friends, Bart learns that Bashir is a muslim. After learning this, Marge is proud of Bart for
meeting new people and stepping outside a comfort zone to meet and share new experiences.
Homer s reaction is quite the opposite. Once word gets out that Homer s son has befriended a
muslim, Homer s friends begin to spit stereotypes in Homer s face about muslims and the culture
behind Islam. After long, persuasive conversations, half witted Homer decides to invite Bashir
and his family to a dinner in an attempt to Assimilate them to American culture, this includes
offering them Pork Back Ribs and a large american flag cake that Homer later states is
Poisonous. This shows Homer s apparent inability to make decisions for himself and for the sake
of his family. After this assimilation attempt, Bashir s family realizes it is best if they leave. Upon
leaving, Homer recognizes the mistakes and decides to go to Bashir s home to apologize for his

Sir Isaac Newton was born on January 4, 1643, in Woolsthorpe, England. He grew up in this

his mother left him for nine years when she moved in with her second husband. Growing up

was soon decided that he wouldn t be continuing in that field as his mother wished originally. He
was never married and had no children. He wasn t extraordinarily close to his family, as he stayed

Analysis Of Alexander s Alexander
There was a troubled 17 year old boy, his name was Alexander. He grew up in a poor household
with abusive parents. He struggled with anger issues, depression, drug abuse, and had an
amazing girlfriend her name was Nadia. They went along like two peas in a pod. Nadia grew up
in a troubled household as well. Her mother was a drug addict and was never home or there for
her in general, and her father was never in the picture until she was 5 years old. She was taken
away from her household by the cops for neglect and abuse. She had two older sisters Amanda
and Charlene. When the cops took them all away out of their mothers grasp, Nadia was separated

That all changed once she met the man of her dreams.
It was the first day of second quarter in Nadia s third year of high school. She struggled with her
grades a lot because of the stress that was upon her shoulders as she struggled with her mental
disorders, and trying to make her way through high school. She was in her first hour class which
was human geography, and there was a hopeless romantic boy named Corbin. They had to do a
group project together to do research on a impoverished country of their choice. Corbin wrote
music and he has been musically talented for his entire life. In 8th grade he entered in the
school talent show and won first place after singing a song that he wrote by himself and played
on the piano. The country they chose the republic of Haiti. They got a week to work on the
project in class and it was worth 1 hundred points. Nadia was terrified of presenting in front of
class, because her social anxiety held her down from so many opportunities and she would freak
out whenever she did so. Her and Corbin would work every day in class together trying to finish
the project before the end of the week but they couldn t finish in time, and the project was due the
Monday of the upcoming week.
Corbin had decided that he wanted to be able to finish the project and have it finished to it s
fullest potential, so he asked Nadia to come over after school to help him finish the project. This
terrified Nadia. She began to shake

Raising Cattle Raiser Research Paper
Raising cattle is no easy feat. How much time and money do you suppose is demanded upon cattle
raisers? Probably more than you could fathom. A cattle raiser has to be ready for the inevitable
encounters faced by the industry. Loyalty to your livestock s health as well as enhancing your
marketing skills is vital in cattle production. As a business, Jones Cattle has many responsibilities
that require provision, resourcefulness, managing, innovation, and above all, protecting the cattle
themselves. Here are five key things to take into consideration when raising cattle.
1. Knowledge and wisdom of the industry
In order to succeed in the cattle business, it is vital you can recognize high quality calves. You
have to know if a heifer or a bull is good or not before you buy it and breed it to make babies to
sell. Also, the cattle industry is frequently fluctuating. With that being said, ones knack on
remaining up to date with whether it be technology or equipment, and raising good cattle ... Show

Do I want to raise cattle for beef, dairy or showing? Am I aiming to have a large cattle operation or
just a small one? You also have to decide why you want to do it and know that some breeds are
appropriate for big businesses and others are more profitable for smaller ones.
3. Importance of animal health
Just as it is important that humans take in proper nutrition to remain healthy, it is imperative for
cattle as well. Proper nutrition is imperative to raising healthy cattle, but there are plenty of other
health dynamics to take into account. Sicknesses and injuries of your cattle can be expensive and
can also hurt your business. Having a vet that you trust to care for your calves needs is important in
order to prevent those from happening, and especially when it comes to vaccinations. Getting your
cattle the proper treatment they need is the only way to keep them alive and healthy.

Analysing the Financial Performance of Domestic Dog Homes
In this part of my report, I will explain in depth how these ratios are used to monitor the financial
state of Domestic Dogs Homes. I will also assess the company s performance generally.
Part 3: Analysing the financial performance of Domestic Dog Homes
Profitability ratios
Gross Profit Margin:
This ratio is used to assess a company s financial performance by revealing the money left over
from the revenues. Gross Profit Margin also serves as the source for paying additional expenses
and future savings.
According to Domestic Dog Homes profit and loss account, it has obtained a reasonably high
percentage of gross profit which means that the company is doing well and will be able to control

Thus, this ratio helps a business to get rid of bad debts. According to the balance sheet of Domestic
Dog Homes, the debtors have 9 days to pay back to the company which is good as the business
would be able ton get its money back quicker and make the necessary changes to get rid of bad
debts.
Conclusion: Overall it seems that Domestic Dog Homes is financially in an unstable state as it is
either performing reasonably well in order to survive or it is not doing so well is particular areas,
e.g. current ratio and asset turnover.
Part 4: the advantages and limitations of using Ratios
There are several advantages and disadvantages of using ratios to assess and monitor the
financial state of Domestic Dog Homes and they are: The ratios forecast the future: They
indicate whether Domestic Dog Homes will be able to pay its debts and whether it will be able
to survive. For instance the current ratio gives the company an insight of whether it will have
enough money to pay back its debts and whether it will have to gain more money in order to
cover the costs of its expenses as well as its debts. However the disadvantage of this is that these
ratios focuses on specific areas of the company s financial state and does not look at the overall
performance hence it is the duty of Domestic Dog Homes to check whether it is progressing
overall. Strengths and weaknesses: The ratios also point out the strengths and weaknesses of a

Juvenile Recidivism
Juvenile Recidivism Karen G Liberty University Abstract Recidivism is when someone returns to
the same behavior that they were previously doing (Unruh, Gau, amp; Waintrup, 2009). There are
many factors that raise the risk of juvenile recidivism such as single parenting, and even when the
parents become involved in drug use. When juveniles become high risk for recidivism it is
important that the adults whether it be the parents, teachers or any adult in authority step in to help
the juvenile to make better choices. By an adult taking an interest in the child it can prevent them
from falling into a group that becomes high risk. From 1984 through 1997 a 71% there was a rise

16). When a mother is an active state of drug addiction it puts her child at a higher risk of
psychological problems. A study has shown that the children don t get medical treatment for the
first two years of their lives, which is only the start of the maltreatment that they suffer (Callaghan,
Crimmins, amp; Schweitzer, 2010, p. 223). Suchman (2010), states that Parenting problems
observed during the children s first three years of life include poor attachment, responsiveness,
adaptability, and structure juxtaposed with heightened physical activity, provocation, and
intrusiveness (p. 483). What the child gets or the lack thereof can be from the mothers own
problems from her childhood (Suchman, 2010, p. 484). When these mothers had poor parents
themselves it gives them a distorted view of how parenting should be. This many times can lead
to the mothers abusiveness and neglect for her own child plus the use of drugs on the mothers
part (2010, p. 485). Poverty can play a role in problems that children can face. The lacks of medical
attention, poor academic success, along with psychological difficulties are some of the challenges
that these children face. The contributing factors that they face are drug use, criminal behavior, and
not doing well academically. When these youth are constantly exposed to such unstable behaviors,
it plays a vital role in the outcome of their own lives that

The Occurrence Of Rape Essay
Sexual urge ... lust ... desire ... force (Emma, 2012) these are all words used by real life sexual
offenders to describe their accounts and what motivated them to commit such crimes. Relative
terms such as rape culture have become increasingly relevant to one of the most discussed issues
in contemporary society. However, a majority of the discussion centres around the impact on the
victims, as well as the injustice of their behaviour. Little of the discussion looks at what goes on
through the minds of these types of offenders. In this essay, I will attempt to unpack a number of
theories that discuss the roots of the occurrence of rape. This will be evaluated in conjunction with
the criminological theory of seductions of crime, as well as the conflict theory. In addition to
this, I will scrutinise these theories and its flaws. I will also be using the example of a real life
convicted rapist to show his version of how someone could become a sex offender. Furthermore, an

A number of theories have been developed to help explain the reasons why rape occurs. Thornhill

Persuasive Essay On Gmo Farming
Genetically modified farming has become more of an issue in the agriculture and nutrition
worlds over the past ten years. The big question is, do the benefits of GMO farming outweigh the
losses. GMO corporations like Monsanto make business much harder for independent farmers,
due to the cost difference and efficiency of GMO farming, as well as other reasons. GMO farming
can also save funds and provide produce to a larger range of people. Genetically modified
agriculturehas an especially strong effect on Hawaii state farmers. While there are benefits to GMO
farming, there are also many downsides.
Extra environmental damage occurs from GMO farming when compared to small scale farms. It
takes the same amount of time to grow and the same amount of money. GMO foods coincide
with higher food allergy levels in the population. Large GMO corporations cause small
independent farmers to go bankrupt or get sued for accidental seed crossing. There are many
downsides to GMO farming, but it can also be useful, genetic modifications can often provide a

GMO seeds often have vitamins and minerals added into them, supplying very necessary nutrients
that could be otherwise inaccessible to a portion of the population. Plants can also be genetically
modified to provide vaccines and proteins through pharming (pharmaceutical farming). GMO
plants also often have a longer shelf life, resulting in more time for transport and less food wasted.
This process can also have environmental benefits such as reduced pollution, erosion, and
greenhouse gas emissions. GMO plants and animals also need less machinery, time, and land,
resulting in enhanced productivity. The GMO debate is especially an issue in Hawaii, the
remoteness of the islands would seem to make it the perfect safe haven for unaltered crops, but the

Arthur Merric Bloomfield Boyd Analysis
Arthur Merric Bloomfield Boyd was born on the 24th of April 1920 and was a leading
Australian artist through the late 20th century. Boyd s work ranges from impressionist
renderings of Australian scene to starkly expressionist figuration, and numerous artworks
highlight both genres. His work features humanitarian issues and many themes such as love,
loss and shame. Boyd comes from an artistic family. This had an affect on his artwork as both of
his parents, Merric and Doris Boyd, were potters and painters while his brothers were both artists,
one a sculptor and the other a painter. This artistic influence helped lead him into becoming an
artist as he was exposed to art from a young age. His humanitarian influences and social
conscience came from writers such as Dostoyevsky and Kafka. Boyd was exposed to these writers
by Jewish immigrant artist Yosl Bergner who was his teacher at Melbourne night classes, which
Boyd started attending at age 14 after leaving school. After this time his talent was nurtured by his
grandfather who was a landscape artist.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His work then moved into a distinct period of depictions of fanciful characters in urban settings
after moving to the inner city where he was influenced by his contact with European refugees.
After this he was conscripted where he did not enter active duty but did create expressionistic
wartime artworks. these artworks were considered powerful and painful images of the outcast as
they pictured those not fit for service and the crippled. An example of this is Cripple in smoke
from factory chimney. This artwork pictures a crippled person created out of the smoke from a
nearby chimney. After the war Boyd, together with John Perceval founded a workshop at
Murrumbeena and started to create other forms of art including pottery, ceramic painting and

Banning Offensive Terms
This week s article covered a spectrum of offensive terms. According to this article, the topic has
been going around for a while now. Recently, the term Redskins has been banned in California. A
lot of people agree with this movement and think it s the right thing to do. However, I
respectfully disagree on banning these offensive words. The article of this week was not one of
my favorites. The whole time I read with my mouth opened in amazement at how sensitive people
have become. Honestly, why are we getting offended by such irrelevant things? The only part I
actually agreed with was that calling someone crippled is offensive. It s the only term that I
believe shouldn t be used because there are much better words to express the same

The Human Rights Of A Kangaroo Than A Police Car Essay
In Southern Hills, one would better spend their time searching for a kangaroo than a police car. In
conjunction with the majority of white suburban neighborhoods, crime was virtually non existent,
facilities well maintained, and school children always had a full lunch bag. In simple terms, life
was good. Living in such a community meant I never felt as though my basic human rightswere
ever being violated because of my skin, gender, or religion. The extent of my knowledge
regarding human rights, while limited, derives from my concessions nature, that I acquired
from typical Southern Hills schooling. Being fortunate enough to have been born in a
community safe from world atrocities has allowed me to view the world in a much broader
sense while simultaneously providing me the understanding of how anyone, regardless of
upbringing, can begin to change such daunting issues. Two blocks from my house was Slavens
k 8, one of the fastest growing and top rated schools in all of Colorado. For 10 years, I was the
beneficiary of an exemplary teaching and an overwhelmingly caring environment. However,
Slavens did lack one fundamental aspect of a continually expanding world: an utter lack of
diversity. For proper prospective, the 90 s show Friends was worlds more diverse than Slavens.
Such is a crucial reasoning behind my initial views on human rights. As far as I could tell, not only
was the entire world Caucasian, human rights were guaranteed, their ability to be harmed was

Pros And Cons Of Enlightened Absolutism
Enlightened Absolutism A number of rulers in18th century Germany began enacting enlightened
reforms of their own. Including increased religious tolerance, an abolition of torture and increased
freedom of the press. Whether these reforms were a result of the increased pressure on German
rulers from the bourgeoisie to introduce enlightened policies, or whether they were simply the result
of the Royals being influenced themselves by enlightened thinkers remains unclear. However, what
is clear is that even these enlightened despots continued to harbour a belief in their own divine right
to rule (Coy, 2011). Their measures to implement enlightened reforms were often only carried out

Effects of Text Messaging Among Teens
Effects of Text Messaging Among Teenagers IntroductionHow often do/did you use your
cellphone/smartphone as a teen? When I was a teen, I received my first cellphone at the age of
15. I thought personally this was the best invention ever created as a young teen and with that, I
soon found out that I just entered a whole new social world with these new technology devices. I
entered a generation that would be called the Tech Generation filled with cellphones/smartphones
and social media. I quickly discovered the texting function with my cellphone and started to send
texts daily to my friends. My cellphone became a necessity for me; if I did not have my cellphone,

Cell phones have been engineered over the past years to accommodate the demand of texting,
such as offering a full 1QWERTY keyboard (QWERTY is the acronym that commonly describes
today s standard keyboard layout on English language computers), and many cell phone carriers
offer plans that contain unlimited texting. An example of one of this cellphones/smartphone
would be the ever popular IPhone, which holds functions that enables the users to be able to call
/text/email and even use special apps that give direct access to the internet or a social
networking site. According to Lenhart, 77% of adults and 71% of teenagers owned a cell phone
and 38% of those teenagers (12 17 years old) used their phones to text daily (30). A year later,
the same survey was administered with results increasing to 54% who text daily (30). The same
survey was again administered from the Pew Research Center by Lenhart in 2012 with the results
increasing to 84% of Americans ages 12 and up owning a cell phone and 63% of teenagers saying
they exchange text messages daily (2). The problem is texting is giving teenagers the option to
avoid face to face interactions and causing teens to lose important social skills. Fraser J.M. Reid,

a. Corrie ten Boom Corrie ten Boom was a faithful Christian who sacrificed everything to help
hide Jews in occupied Holland during World War II. Her courage and faith helped her to survive a
German concentration camp and live on to spread God s word. In the story, Corrie played a
protagonist who also acted as a first person point of view narrator. Corrie s role in the story was to
tell her life story of the presence of God throughout her survival of the terrors of occupation.
b. Betsie ten Boom Betsie ten Boom was the older sister of Corrie who also devoted herself to
helping Jews during World War II. Having a passionate and optimistic approach to life, Betsie
brought joy to the darkest moments in the concentration camp. She aimed to give thanks to God in
every circumstance and show love towards the most hateful of people. Betsie s role in the story
was to be a spark of hope in the cloud of darkness surrounding many of the events occurring in the
story.

Dietary Supplement Essay
Walking through a strip mall, the allure of a GNC or a Vitamin Shoppe can be hard to resist. Enter
through the front doors and get lost in wall to wall shelves of products addressing health concerns
so obscure that even the most neurotic hypochondriac would feel at ease. There are probiotics,
herbal therapies, bodybuilding supplements, smart pills, beverage infusions, vitamins and minerals,
you name it. The products on these shelves represent the fruits of a thirty billion dollar industry that
capitalizes on consumers desire to aspire beyond good healthinto the illusive realm of wellness
however that is defined (Reinberg, 2015). The logic fueling this desire makes sense: given so many
options to choose from, there must be something that will make life even healthier and happier than
it already is. This logic is both true and false at the same time. While there are a range of dietary
supplements catering to a range of health needs, it is important to understand the facts behind them
and how to distinguish effective products from useless ones. By considering science, avoiding
marketing gimmicks, and moderating consumption, consumers can use dietary supplements in
ways that could have life changing health benefits. Regulating your own consumption of dietary
supplements based on independent research is extremely important, because unlike food and drugs,
the government will not shoulder this responsibility for you. This policy can be traced back to

Poaders In Textual Poachers
2.1 Introduction
In Textual Poachers, Henry Jenkins (2013 [1992], 9) writes of a Saturday Night Live skit in
which William Shatner, or Captain Kirk, tells a group of nerdy, yet devout Trekkies, to Get a
Life! This skit plays on popular perceptions we have of fans as being so enamoured with the fan
object they lose touch with reality. In coverage of fans in the media, whether of celebrities, a
television series or sports, we are often on the receiving end of fanatical, sensationalist, or even
deviant portrayals. The reality, as fan scholars previously demonstrate, is these types of fans are
stereotypes (Jenkins 2013 [1992]; Jensen 1992). Certainly, some fans spend excessive amounts of
time devoted to their fan object, but rarely does it become a pathological obsession, as is the case
with celebrity stalkers (see Duffett 2014 ; Ferris 2001; Meloy, Sheridan and Hoffmann 2008). For
example, Mark David Chapman was most definitely an obsessed fan of John Lennon, but Chapman
divorced himself from fan status through deviant pathological action, in killing Lennon, something
not shared with the vast majority of fans. Chapman was more likely severely ill, than a fan, when
he shot Lennon. The relegation of fans to pathological deviants mischaracterizes fans in a broader
societal understanding, but as Jensen (1992) points out in her now classic essay, Fandom as
Pathology: the Consequences of Characterization, skewed academic perceptions of fans as well. Set
apart from deviance,

The Pros And Cons Of Flag Burning
On August 22, 1984, Gregory Lee Johnson was arrested for setting the U.S. flag on fire. His simple
act of protest led to the Supreme Court ruling that flag burning is protected under the First
Amendment as free speech, thus overturning his conviction. The flag symbolizes freedom, and part
of that freedom is being able to express dissatisfaction with the government. However, some see
flag burning not merely as a demonstration of opinion, but as an attack on national unity and
American values. Should it be illegal to burn the U.S. flag as an form of protest, or is this method
within the rights of American citizens? Johnson set the stars and stripes ablaze at the 1984
Republican National Convention after participating in a protest march against... Show more content

Concerning the outcome of Texas v. Johnson, Justice William Brennan delivered the opinion of
the court: If there is a bedrock principle underlying the First Amendment, it is that government
may not prohibit the expression of an idea simply because society finds the idea itself offensive
or disagreeable. Flag burning may be offensive to loyal Americans, but it is not threatening
enough by itself to justify punishment. Brennan also stated that we do not consecrate the flag by
punishing its desecration, for in so doing we dilute the the freedom that this cherished emblem
represents. In Johnson s case, the Supreme Court valued constitutional principles rather than
patriotic preferences. The Supreme Court s stance on flag burning has remained the same since.
Nevertheless, thirty years after United States v. Eichman, there is still controversy over whether
or not it should be legal. A recent example of the present discussion on flag burning is a tweet
made by President Donald Trump in 2016: Nobody should be allowed to burn the American flag
if they do, there must be consequences perhaps loss of citizenship or year in jail! However,
without a reason to change the law besides personal opinion, the Supreme Court is not likely to
reverse their decision and make flag burning

Results: The artists included painters, sculptors, dancers, etc. There were also quite a few people
there on behalf of organizations, like one against animal cruelty and one to help sea turtles. The
artists seemed to be more diverse than the walkers, but only by a little bit. The walkers looked

It was especially surprising seeing the salwar kameez, because I usually only saw that at the

since there are so many other things going on it wouldn t seem weird like it would in other
places. I also saw this in the demographic differences, since, like I mentioned in the observation
notes, most of the walkers were well dressed young white women, some with their boyfriends,
some with a few other friends. So those who looked alternative seemed most at home; others
were there in passing, observing the culture, enjoying the music and perusing the art. As someone
who didn t grow up anywhere near any kind of bustling city center, even the observers and the
observed seemed similar, in that they were at home in downtown Phoenix. A lot of people knew
exactly how to get around and navigate from stop to stop. The older folks on my shuttle had been

Lesson Reflection Essay
Today, I arrived to Hanover Horton about ten minutes early so that I could talk to Mrs. Beach

conversation about some different methods that I could use to teach the lesson. I also talked with
her about the students that I need to make differentiation considerations for. Mrs. Beach provided
me with some great suggestions on how to help these students understand the material. She also
suggested that I look for signs of frustration. The three students that I am looking out for become
frustrated easily if they do not understand what is going on. I made sure that when I created my
lessonplan, that I had some great ways to differentiate for them. Near the end of our conversation, I
had many wonderful ideas to work with. At 10:15, the students came in and got started on their
math lessons. Mrs. Beach taught the higher learners the lesson in a small group. These small group
lessons are wonderful for differentiating instruction because Mrs. Beach is able to challenge the
higher level students by giving them challenge questions using the skills that they have been
practicing, but it also allows her to break down the material for the struggling students. The lower
learners worked on Zearn. During this period of time, I walked around the classroom and helped
the students on Zearn. While doing this, I realized that even though Zearn is a great program, it

Totalitarianism In Animal Farm, By George Orwell
In the book, Animal Farm, written by George Orwell, he portrayed to me a sense of repetition in
the political process, that seems to eventually end in chaos or confusion, not witch truly sums up his
view of a political process in the government. The main key points Orwell was trying to come
through with the book was the meaning of totalitarianism. According to Classroom Synonym,
totalitarian government is a single party dictatorship that controls all aspects of public and private
life, which is most definitely portrayed in the book though the characters.Although throughout the
essay I will be comparing this incredible analogy, through a realistic and nonrealistic viewpoint
about totalitarianism; a bitter feud between the South Sudanese president and his vice president,
and Emma Stone s character in present still truly connects through the twisted story of human
nature in the movie the The Help . Eventually, by the end of this, you will see through various
quotes from Animal Farm and researched articles and how today s political world, written by
George Orwell.
Although many countries are changing their way of political movements there is still
totalitarianism in foreign countries. It occurs in North Korea, China, Cuba, Zimbabwe, Saudi
Arabia, and much more, according to Quora. This can be seen in the quoted words, Man serves
the interest of no creature except himself. And among us animals let there be a perfect unity,
perfect comradeship in the struggle. All men are enemies. All animals are comrades. (Orwell 21)
In the beginning this is what the animals stood for and all agreed to,but Orwell shows how all of
Old Major s words become ruins and that this is the hope that all totalitarian regimes have in the
beginning of any revolution, battle, or war and that they have a very clear view of their enemies
and their goal as a whole. Although, the greed for power and much more take place quite quickly.
According to Litcharts, Those who hold power in totalitarianism regimes care only about one thing:
maintaining their power by any means necessary. The character that best describes these motives is
Napoleon. He obtains this in visual with the quoted words from the book, At first, one had been

American Imperial Gothic
In his book, The American Imperial Gothic: Popular Culture, Empire, Violence, Johan Höglund
focuses on America as an empire by looking at conflict and violence portrayed in media
throughout the years. As a starting point he utilizes Patrick Brantlinger s concept of Imperial
Gothic which refers to the gothic literary aesthetic that arose in British writing during the decline
of the British Empire. Höglund uses the phrase imperial gothic to point not to a specific literary
genre but also to any media that considers the anxieties that arise during a period of time in which
an empire wanes. The book includes everything from clearly gothic literature/media popular during
the 1930s Hollywood hayday of monster movies like Frankenstein, The Mummy, and Dracula all
the way to current pop culture via The Walking Dead, The Lord of the Rings, and numerous recent
horror films (notably The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Exorcist).
The main idea throughout the book is the dichotomy within American popular culture of a fierce
defense of American freedom at all costs with an intolerance of those same violent means in others
us versus the primitive. Interestingly Höglund makes a point to not only use clearly gothic
examples but casts a broader net by treating this American imperial gothic more ... Show more

concepts that help contextualize the examples he uses from the aforementioned imperial gothic to

Gender Expectations On Men And Women And Gender Roles In...
Should our biological sex determine our personality? In modern society, they do. From birth, we
are assigned a gender and are socialized to conform to certain gender roles. Even when the babies
are still in the womb, we put gender expectations on them. For instance, boys like blue while girls
like pink. Genderexpectation impact men and women in the areas of employment, dating, and
marriage. Men and women are impacted by gender expectations when they look for a job. As
children, we are told that we can be anything. Sadly, this is a lie. For example, men get ridiculed
for wanting to be an elementary school teacher. People question why they want this. For many, the
role of an elementary school teacher is better suited for a woman. They question if he has any bad
intentions. Does he want to help students, or does he really have some other agenda? This is a
tragedy because children often imitate behaviors they see. Maleelementary school teachers are
positive role models for young boys. They help young boys to shape how they should behave.
Not only do boys benefit from male teachers, but girls do as well. We live in a world that is so
diverse. It is important for young, impressionable children to witness this first hand. Gender
expectations in employment also affect women. For instance, women are often discouraged from
pursuing a career as a firefighter. Many people consider this job to be better suited for males. They
believe that women just aren t strong enough. During World

The Role Of Suffering In The Little Mermaid
Hans Christian Andersen s story The Little Mermaid addresses many dark ideas that Disney s
film The Little Mermaid avoids. The avoidance of dark topics by Disney can be attributed to
Disney targeting a different audience as well as Disney wanting to keep a happily ever after on
the story of Ariel. The role of suffering in Andersen s stories is attributed to the desire of young
girls for something in which they should not or cannot have. This desire propels the characters in

Fear mongering is a tactic used to scare people away from what they do not understand whether it
be sexuality, religion or ideology. Fear mongering is intentionally used to arouse public fear about
a topic people do not understand. The age group targeted for this fairy tale would be pre teens and
teens. The fairy tale would start out with a group of rabbits talking to each other around a
campfire and this group of rabbits would be the main population in the story. Then, one rabbit
by the name of Mr. Scared Bunny would describe a giant rabbit to the other rabbits and the other
rabbits do not know anything about the giant rabbit, thus anything that the storytelling rabbit
says about the giant rabbit is the only information this group of rabbits has on the giant rabbit.
The giant rabbit would be the protagonist in the story because he is being targeted by Mr. Scared
Bunny s incorrect facts and the giant rabbit is really just the Easter bunny trying to overcome
stereotypes generated by rabbits that do not know him. During the fairy tale the rabbit will
describe the giant rabbit as being dangerous to society and a potential threat to their lives, if
allowed to live peacefully and undisturbed amongst the normal rabbits. However, the rabbit
sharing details about the giant rabbit has no idea what the giant rabbit is actually like. The result
of the rabbit s tale of the giant rabbit thus, has created fearmongering amongst the population of
rabbits and they fear for their lives of a rabbit that they don t even know. The giant rabbit ends up
ostracized and sad because he has no friends and the other rabbits will not approach him. At the
end of the fairy tale the giant rabbit turns out to be the Easter bunny and the other rabbits had no
reason to fear. The fearmongering though, created an environment in which someone who was

Interpretation By Susan Sontag

Susan Sontag s View on Interpretation and its Applications and Analysis Using Bedlam Painting
Number Eight
Interpretation has been a phenomenon existing from the time immemorial. There has been a long
tradition of interpretation, in all occupations. Interpretation of arts and literature has gone to an
extent that it has taken shape of a discipline and has grown as a methodology and an art itself.
Eliot even says, We might remind ourselves that criticism is as inevitable as breathing . Method of
Interpretation has long been a subject of discussion among intellectual circles and it has been
subject to a constant evolution ever since it came into being. Moreover, the conventional methods
have always been circling around the dynamics of relationship of the signifier and the signified, a
discourse upon meaning of a work of art. Sontag has proposed an objection towards the traditional
methods of such kind. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She says in the essay, I don t mean interpretation in the broadest sense, the sense in which
Nietzsche (rightly) says, There are no facts, only interpretations. By interpretation, I mean here a
conscious act of the mind which illustrates a certain code, certain rules of interpretation. Sontag is
opposed to the criticism of a kind where a critic is given all authority to assign meaning to a work
of art according to his/her own whims and

Examples Of Masculinity In Margaret Hale
Throughout the North and South, Margaret Hale shows a tremendous ability to affirm and alter the
masculinity of the men around her. This power is both due to the nature of masculinity itself, as
well as Margaret s unwavering convictions about what she perceives to be masculine. For any man,
their masculinity will be influenced by the women around them. This is because masculinity exists
in a duality with femininity; they define themselves against one another, what is dominant is
masculine and what is submissive is feminine, stoicism and emotional, blue and pink. Without one
to cast its shadow on, the other loses its structure. Thus, masculinity measures itself against the
mensuration that femininity lays out for it. This reliance on one another... Show more content on

Thornton hears Margaret call him out on his cowardice and question his courage and noble
quality , Gaskell writes that a dark cloud came over his face while he listened. He set his teeth as
he heard her words (232). Rather than wither under Margaret s accusations on his manliness, Mr.
Thornton reacts accordingly and leaves to perform his duty as the man of the household so
quickly that he cuts Margaret off mid sentence. This is drastically different to Mr. Hale s
reactions, which would instead leave Margaret up to her own devices to fulfill his role, and shows
how Margaret s influence on the men around her does not just lead to emasculation, but a push
toward a fuller embodiment of their masculinity. Here especially, all it took were a few sharp
sentences and Mr. Thornton felt compelled from hiding inside his home to boldly addressing an
army of rioting, angry men. Thus, Margaret has a significant amount of control over the actions of

Analysis the Grasshopper and the Bell Cricket
ANALYSIS
THE GRASSHOPPER AND THE BELL CRICKET
BY: YASUNARI KAWABATA
The grasshopper and the bell cricket is a short story, written by Yasunari Kawabata, written in a
narrative perspective of someone watching children searching for insects using colored and
decorated lanterns. I would like to think that the author is trying to symbolize life, and that it is not
only one path to go. We are all aiming for acceptance and to fit in to the society, but this story tells
us that
The author, who put himself as narrator, describes how he walks through the halls of the university
and approaches the upper school and its playground, and he seems to get so emotionally attached
that he cannot take another turn. I turned right so as not to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Even the narrator comments I felt slightly jealous of the boy, and sheepish . When the boy gives
away the grasshopper to a girl, who was one of many who wanted it, the girl shouted out Oh! It s
not a grasshopper. It s a bell cricket.
I read an analysis on this short story on a blog, called Generation , and I agree with his thoughts
behind the symbolism of the transformation of the bell cricket from the boy to the girl, he states
that it could be translated into the development of love and how, as rare as it is in the wild, one
can captivate with a simple giving gesture. The narrator goes on to explain the rarity of such a
find; even if you have the wit to look by yourself in a bush away from the other children, there are
not many bell crickets in the world.
I agree on the romantic messages behind this story, but I would also like to think that it describes,
as I mentioned in the beginning of the analysis, life in general with the hunting of acceptation, that
it is not only one way to go. It does not matter what color or decorations your lantern is, a multi
colored is just as beautiful.

Anemia Decreases the Number of Red Blood Cells Essay
Anemia is a blood condition with decreasing number of red blood cells (RBC) or less than normal
levels of hemoglobin (an essential protein that carries oxygen to your tissues and organs) in the
blood. Anemia usually occurs when individual does not have enough red blood cells the cells that
transport hemoglobin(Hb) throughout your body. [4]
Iron deficiency anemia is a common form of anemia that occurs if person does not have sufficient
iron in body. Without enough iron your body starts using the iron it has stored. Soon, the stored
iron gets used. After the stored iron is used, your body makes fewer red blood cells. The red blood
cells it does make have less hemoglobin than normal. [4]
Iron deficiency anemia can cause fatigue, chest pain, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Anemia is a common comorbidity in HF is associated with increased disease severity and also
contributes to a worse outcome. The mechanism through which anemia contributes to negative
outcome in chronic HF patients is multifactorial and complex. Important factors include, bone
marrow resistance to erythropoietin, renal failure, chronic inflammation, medication use and
hematinic deficiencies, in particular iron deficiency (ID). Generally, the presence of ID is only
considered clinically relevant in the presence of anemia. However, a decreased hemoglobin
levels can be viewed as the end result of a process beginning with gradual depletion of iron stores.
Even if patients are not anemic, ID already may be common in chronic HF, with or without
anemia, is associated with decreased aerobic performance and exercise intolerance, recently also
shown in chronic HF. [5]
Anemia is an independent factor in mortality in people with chronic heart failure. Anemia, or a
low level of hemoglobin in the blood, is much linked to heart disease because the heart has to
work harder to pump more blood and oxygen through the body [4]. Iron deficiency in heart failure
can be due to a number of factors, it may be caused by a lack of nutrients in a person s diet or by
the body s inability to absorb nutrients from food. Heart failure can also cause a back up of fluid
(edema). This edema produces a higher volume of blood plasma (the liquid part of blood), which
can dilute red

Karen and Tracy have been emailing each other since we got back home and developed a pen

denim pants, lose fitting turquoise blouse and a light spring jacket. Her long flowing auburn hair
was in a braided ponytail. Karen, almost had the same outfit, complete with ponytail, had they

the back seat. I wanted in on the action, I wanted to suck Tracy s hard nipples and feel her tight

Unexamined Life Is Not Worth Living
During the trial of Socrates in Plato s The Apology, Socrates himself states The unexamined life
is not worth living (Plato, p.40). Over the millennia this quote has sparked debate about what
point Socrates was trying to make. A general agreement has been met in which everyone realizes
that Socrates is not suggesting death within this quote. However, my personal belief is that an
unexamined life is not worth living because one must fulfill their own wholesome, proper
purpose, relative to what they think that is an examined life. Superstar athletes are put on a
platform by society where they can promote their ideals of an examined life, or vise versa .
Giving the comparison of two football players, JJ Watt and Ray Rice, we can see how someone
with authority and power relative to the public eye can use said authority to live an examined
life, or to do completely the opposite. In 2014, Ray Race, a two time all star halfback for the
Baltimore Ravens was found guilty of domestic abuse towards his wife, Janay Rice. As quoted
from Janay Rice Reality is a nightmare in itself (Rice, Janay). Following the trial Ray Rice was
permanently suspended from NFL action, including the Pro Football Hall of Fame, which many
assume he was destined for. Compare this to the recent action of Houston Texans superstar, JJ Watt.
After the devastating effects of Hurricane Harvey on the suburban Houston area, JJ Watt took the
task upon himself. Over the weeks since Harvey, Watt has reached out to

Count Camillo Benso Di Cavour
Count Camillo Benso di Cavour was a man born into Italian politics during a time where the
divided peninsula was in constant turmoil which was largely due to the many shifts in power
throughout the many territories of Italy. Descending from a noble family and having both
marquis for a father and a mother who was the lady in waiting to the princess at the time (who
was the first Napoleon s sister), Cavour had the chance early on to observe politics (Botta, pg. 6).
What he largely had the chance to see was the great divisions that plagued the governments of Italy
as it fell from France control. While he was attending the Military Academy of Turin, he found
himself hired as the page to Charles Albert, the heir at the time to the throne of Sardinia (Botta,
pg. 7). Eventually dismissed by Albert and allowed to return to his studies at the Academy, Cavour
soon had the opportunity to tour the country through his rapid progression through the ranks. After
his service, Cavour sought to delve deeper into the politics all around him. In addition to studying
political science and political economics, he had the opportunity to watch the political changes of
England and France (the French Revolution). He is quoted as having said to an English friend in
one of his numerous letter that While all of Europe is walking with a firm step in the path of
progress, unhappy Italy is always borne down under the same system of civil and religious tyranny.
(Botta, pg. 9). He elaborates later that

Digital Divide And Stereotypes
Introduction
Firstly recorded in the report of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration
(NTIA) survey in 1995, (Servon, 2002), the term Digital Divide presents an interesting quandary of
information and communication technologies (ICT) disparities among countries in the world,
especially between developed and developing countries. Many reports even showed that access to
ICT in these information have and have nots countries was unequally even (Bridges.org, 2001;
Fuchs Horak, 2008; Norris, 2001 ; Van Dijk, 2009). Nonetheless, though inequities in access to ICT
are most evident across countries, the same pattern is found within the countries themselves. In the
U.S, for example, the gap in ICT access does exist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In my poster, I used an image of old lady from Swongled Media (2008) to represent the concept of
digital immigrants. Prensky (2001a, p. 8 ), in his first article Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants
, describes this term as those older generations who were not born into the digital world . After
years of living in pre digital lifestyles (Selwyn, 2009, p. 369 ), the digital immigrants have been
transformed into a group of asylum seekers in digital media world (Byne Ross, 2007, p. 4 ). It
means that these older people are forced to adapt if they really want to be connected. Likewise,
even though some of digital immigrants can use technology, most of them still consider it as
something foreign (Kennedy et al., 2008). Consequently, the digital immigrants may find online
experience anarchic, superficial and/or threatening (Dufresne Bethke, 2005), due to their
entrenched value in traditional discourse of information gathering. O Hara and Steven (2006, p.
88) even claims that the digital immigrants require more attention due to their ICT skills which
are second hand, slightly forced and has to be learned . In other words, digital immigrants are
seen as groups of people who are older and less familiar as well as uncomfortable with technology.
Following to that, the divergent notion of digital immigrants is digital natives. I portrayed this
concept by using an image from Rachel

Imported Malaria Cases And Fatality, Uk
Imported Malaria Cases and Fatality, UK: 2004 2013
Background
Malaria is a disease of humans that is caused by the protozoa Plasmodium species and is
transferred through the bite of infected female anopheles mosquito. The various species that cause
infection in man include Plasmodium (P.) falciparum, P. vivax, P. ovale, P. malariae and P.
knowlesi. The symptoms of malaria include but not limited to cold, elevated temperature,
tiredness, general body weakness, and muscle pains. Symptoms show within 28 days after a bite
by the female anopheles mosquito, but in case of P. vivax, relapse could still occur up to five years
after the initial infection (Walker and Colledge 2014). Various antimalarial medications are... Show

According to Dobson (1994), a lot of fatality due to malaria infection occurs in southern and
eastern England in the 16th and 19th century. The species of malaria that was endemic in
England at that time was vivax and ovale which brought conspicuous effect on the costal marches
with native trend on infectivity and mortality. In history, it is stated that clinical malaria had
disappeared from England but reappeared after the World Wars and the setback of malaria in UK
currently is imported one (Dobson, 1994; Public Health England, 2014). This paper will be
looking at the epidemiologic trends of imported malaria, cases and deaths between 2004 and 2013
in the UK.
Demography, Disease Prevalence and Epidemiology
Figure 1:2011, showing regions and zones at risk of malaria infection Source: WHO, 2011
Malaria is extensively disseminated all through tropics: Asia, Africa, South and Central America,
Oceania, Hispaniola, and the Middle East. WHO (2013), valued that there were 207,000,000
incidents of malaria and about 627 thousand mortality globally, predominantly amid under fives in
Africa.
The worldwide incidence of Plasmodium species varies. Although, all the species may be present
in all the regions, but specific ones are predominant in certain places. For example, while both
species are present in South America and South East Asia, P. falciparum is commonest in Africa,
Papua New Guinea and Hispaniola and P. vivax is mostly present in Central America and the

Were Watching God Womanhood
Comparing and Contrasting How Womanhood is Portrayed in As I lay Dying and Their Eyes
Were Watching God Womanhood is an extremely significant topic discussed in various works of
literature. The subject of womanhood and how it is discussed in a work of literature enormously
differs between the authors personal views of it. Womanhood is an especially important topic in
the novels, As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner and Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale
Hurston. The authors views of womanhood are shown through the actions of their female
characters as well as how they are characterized. In Hurston s novel, Their Eyes Were Watching

In addition, the woman needs some freedom in the marriage, which is demonstrated through Janie s
marriage with Joe Starks, whose overbearing nature ultimately caused his marriage with Janie to
deteriorate. Although Janie did eventually find her true love, Tea Cake, at the end of the novel, she
demonstrated the ultimate act of womanhood by shooting her husband and true love in order to
save her own life. This analysis most likely implies that a marriage must be fair to the woman, but
the woman must not lose herself in her marriage and be defined by the man in the relationship.
Instead, the woman should maintain a clear sense of self and treat her partner as an equal, rather

the essential amino acids. Since amino acid is the monomer of proteins, this relates to protein. The
body uses about 20kmds of amino acids to construct the protein it needs. Amino acids are
essential for growth. Fish, poultry and eggs also contain Vitamin B so they are also essential for

This enables organisation a better at designation of tasks to employees or departments within the

This enables problems to be solved quickly and projects or tasks are done according to plan.
Because of this distribution of power and centralisation in decision making, vertical organisation
structure provides the organisation the ability to grow efficiently as well increase productivity
(Mihm et al. 2010, p 831). As company grows large, management are required to solve problems
that are complex because of multiple relevant technologies, globalizing markets, multiple
interacting business processes, and collaboration with external partners, vertical organisation
structure helps in solving these challenges.
A major problem for vertical organisation structure is that because of the pyramid shapes of the
structure, it lacks the transparency of information because each layer muddles information more
and more and tends to create boundaries between departments or branches in an organization. For
example, person down one branch must go up the chain of command on his branch and then down
the chain of command on the other branch in order to interact with someone down the chain of
command on a different branch (Damraks 2009, p7 8). This may lead to poor inter group

However, since hair is typically made up of the protein, Keratin, it is typically harder to extract
DNA from hair. In order to extract DNA from hair it is important to use the follicle of the hair.
DNA is easily found in the root and follicle of the hair because it is connected to the blood stream
(Heywood, 21 22). When attempting to extract the DNA from the hair, forensics attempt to
wash out all of the protein, therefore, the only thing left is the pure DNA sample. However,
there is not a 100% chance that protein will be washed out completely, meaning that there is a
chance that DNA could be contaminated, in other words the DNA would be hard to read and
find a yield. In addition, due to this fact the average success rate of yielding DNA from hair is
60 70% ( A Simple Method of Genomic DNA Extraction from Human Samples for PCR RFLP

is due to the fact that the tissue inside of your mouth, contains a lot of available DNA when the
area is shedded (Smith, 43). When the popsicle stick is rubbed along the tissue it allows for cells
to be shedded, therefore it is easy to obtain the cells, when one rinses saline buffer inside of the

the overall interests of the general public; which are then carried out into the results that can either

After long, persuasive conversations, half witted Homer decides to invite Bashir and his family to a dinner in an attempt to Assimilate them to American culture, this includes offering them Pork Back Ribs and a large american flag cake that Homer later states is Poisonous. When these mothers had poor parents themselves it gives them a distorted view of how parenting should be. This many times can lead to the mothers abusiveness and neglect for her own child plus the use of drugs on the mothers part (2010, p. 485). Poverty can play a role in problems that children can face. The lacks of medical attention, poor academic success, along with psychological difficulties are some of the challenges that these children face. The Occurrence Of Rape Essay Sexual urge ... lust ... desire ... force (Emma, 2012) these are all words used by real life sexual offenders to describe their accounts and what motivated them to commit such crimes. Relative terms such as rape culture have become increasingly relevant to one of the most discussed issues in contemporary society. However, a majority of the discussion centres around the impact on the victims, as well as the injustice of their behaviour. Little of the discussion looks at what goes on through the minds of these types of offenders. In this essay, I will attempt to unpack a number of theories that discuss the roots of the occurrence of rape. This will be evaluated in conjunction with the criminological theory of seductions of crime, as well as the conflict theory. In addition to this, I will scrutinise these theories and its flaws. I will also be using the example of a real life convicted rapist to show his version of how someone could become a sex offender. Furthermore, an analysis on different character traits of sex offenders will follow this, as well as an investigation on rape culture in order to develop a more informed understanding on sexual offending. A number of theories have been developed to help explain the reasons why rape occurs. Thornhill and Palmer developed the evolutionary theory that connects rape to primitive traits (Siegert Ward, 2002 cited in Lowell, 2010: 158). • 19. Arthur Merric Bloomfield Boyd Analysis Arthur Merric Bloomfield Boyd was born on the 24th of April 1920 and was a leading Australian artist through the late 20th century. Boyd s work ranges from impressionist renderings of Australian scene to starkly expressionist figuration, and numerous artworks highlight both genres. His work features humanitarian issues and many themes such as love, loss and shame. Boyd comes from an artistic family. This had an affect on his artwork as both of his parents, Merric and Doris Boyd, were potters and painters while his brothers were both artists, one a sculptor and the other a painter. This artistic influence helped lead him into becoming an artist as he was exposed to art from a young age. His humanitarian influences and social conscience came from writers such as Dostoyevsky and Kafka. Boyd was exposed to these writers by Jewish immigrant artist Yosl Bergner who was his teacher at Melbourne night classes, which Boyd started attending at age 14 after leaving school. Poaders In Textual Poachers 2.1 Introduction In Textual Poachers, Henry Jenkins (2013 [1992], 9) writes of a Saturday Night Live skit in which William Shatner, or Captain Kirk, tells a group of nerdy, yet devout Trekkies, to Get a Life! This skit plays on popular perceptions we have of fans as being so enamoured with the fan object they lose touch with reality. In coverage of fans in the media, whether of celebrities, a television series or sports, we are often on the receiving end of fanatical, sensationalist, or even deviant portrayals. The reality, as fan scholars previously demonstrate, is these types of fans are stereotypes (Jenkins 2013 [1992]; Jensen 1992). Certainly, some fans spend excessive amounts of time devoted to their fan object, but rarely does it become a pathological obsession, as is the case with celebrity stalkers (see Duffett 2014 ; Ferris 2001; Meloy, Sheridan and Hoffmann 2008). For example, Mark David Chapman was most definitely an obsessed fan of John Lennon, but Chapman divorced himself from fan status through deviant pathological action, in killing Lennon, something not shared with the vast majority of fans. Chapman was more likely severely ill, than a fan, when he shot Lennon. The relegation of fans to pathological deviants mischaracterizes fans in a broader societal understanding, but as Jensen (1992) points out in her now classic essay, Fandom as Pathology: the Consequences of Characterization, skewed academic perceptions of fans as well. His simple act of protest led to the Supreme Court ruling that flag burning is protected under the First Amendment as free speech, thus overturning his conviction. The flag symbolizes freedom, and part of that freedom is being able to express dissatisfaction with the government. However, some see flag burning not merely as a demonstration of opinion, but as an attack on national unity and American values. Concerning the outcome of Texas v. Johnson, Justice William Brennan delivered the opinion of the court: If there is a bedrock principle underlying the First Amendment, it is that government may not prohibit the expression of an idea simply because society finds the idea itself offensive or disagreeable. Flag burning may be offensive to loyal Americans, but it is not threatening enough by itself to justify punishment. Brennan also stated that we do not consecrate the flag by punishing its desecration, for in so doing we dilute the the freedom that this cherished emblem represents. In Johnson s case, the Supreme Court valued constitutional principles rather than patriotic preferences. The Supreme Court s stance on flag burning has remained the same since. Nevertheless, thirty years after United States v. Eichman, there is still controversy over whether or not it should be legal. A recent example of the present discussion on flag burning is a tweet made by President Donald Trump in 2016: Nobody should be allowed to burn the American flag if they do, there must be consequences perhaps loss of citizenship or year in jail! We had a great conversation about some different methods that I could use to teach the lesson. I also talked with her about the students that I need to make differentiation considerations for. Mrs. Beach provided me with some great suggestions on how to help these students understand the material. She also suggested that I look for signs of frustration. The three students that I am looking out for become frustrated easily if they do not understand what is going on. I made sure that when I created my lessonplan, that I had some great ways to differentiate for them. Near the end of our conversation, I had many wonderful ideas to work with. At 10:15, the students came in and got started on their math lessons. Mrs. Beach taught the higher learners the lesson in a small group. These small group lessons are wonderful for differentiating instruction because Mrs. Beach is able to challenge the higher level students by giving them challenge questions using the skills that they have been practicing, but it also allows her to break down the material for the struggling students. The lower learners worked on Zearn. During this period of time, I walked around the classroom and helped the students on Zearn. Totalitarianism In Animal Farm, By George Orwell In the book, Animal Farm, written by George Orwell, he portrayed to me a sense of repetition in the political process, that seems to eventually end in chaos or confusion, not witch truly sums up his view of a political process in the government. The main key points Orwell was trying to come through with the book was the meaning of totalitarianism. According to Classroom Synonym, totalitarian government is a single party dictatorship that controls all aspects of public and private life, which is most definitely portrayed in the book though the characters.Although throughout the essay I will be comparing this incredible analogy, through a realistic and nonrealistic viewpoint about totalitarianism; a bitter feud between the South Sudanese president and his vice president, and Emma Stone s character in present still truly connects through the twisted story of human nature in the movie the The Help . Eventually, by the end of this, you will see through various quotes from Animal Farm and researched articles and how today s political world, written by George Orwell. Although many countries are changing their way of political movements there is still totalitarianism in foreign countries. It occurs in North Korea, China, Cuba, Zimbabwe, Saudi Arabia, and much more, according to Quora. This can be seen in the quoted words, Man serves the interest of no creature except himself. And among us animals let there be a perfect unity, perfect comradeship in the struggle. All men are enemies. All animals are comrades. (Orwell 21) In the beginning this is what the animals stood for and all agreed to,but Orwell shows how all of Old Major s words become ruins and that this is the hope that all totalitarian regimes have in the beginning of any revolution, battle, or war and that they have a very clear view of their enemies and their goal as a whole. Although, the greed for power and much more take place quite quickly. According to Litcharts, Those who hold power in totalitarianism regimes care only about one thing: maintaining their power by any means necessary. • 33. American Imperial Gothic In his book, The American Imperial Gothic: Popular Culture, Empire, Violence, Johan HГ¶glund focuses on America as an empire by looking at conflict and violence portrayed in media throughout the years. As a starting point he utilizes Patrick Brantlinger s concept of Imperial Gothic which refers to the gothic literary aesthetic that arose in British writing during the decline of the British Empire. HГ¶glund uses the phrase imperial gothic to point not to a specific literary genre but also to any media that considers the anxieties that arise during a period of time in which an empire wanes. The book includes everything from clearly gothic literature/media popular during the 1930s Hollywood hayday of monster movies like Frankenstein, The Mummy, and Dracula all the way to current pop culture via The Walking Dead, The Lord of the Rings, and numerous recent horror films (notably The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Exorcist). The main idea throughout the book is the dichotomy within American popular culture of a fierce defense of American freedom at all costs with an intolerance of those same violent means in others us versus the primitive. • 34. Gender Expectations On Men And Women And Gender Roles In... Should our biological sex determine our personality? In modern society, they do. From birth, we are assigned a gender and are socialized to conform to certain gender roles. Even when the babies are still in the womb, we put gender expectations on them. For instance, boys like blue while girls like pink. Genderexpectation impact men and women in the areas of employment, dating, and marriage. Men and women are impacted by gender expectations when they look for a job. As children, we are told that we can be anything. Sadly, this is a lie. For example, men get ridiculed for wanting to be an elementary school teacher. People question why they want this. For many, the role of an elementary school teacher is better suited for a woman. They question if he has any bad intentions. Does he want to help students, or does he really have some other agenda? This is a tragedy because children often imitate behaviors they see. Maleelementary school teachers are positive role models for young boys. They help young boys to shape how they should behave. Not only do boys benefit from male teachers, but girls do as well. We live in a world that is so diverse. It is important for young, impressionable children to witness this first hand. Gender expectations in employment also affect women. For instance, women are often discouraged from pursuing a career as a firefighter. Many people consider this job to be better suited for males. They believe that women just aren t strong enough. The avoidance of dark topics by Disney can be attributed to Disney targeting a different audience as well as Disney wanting to keep a happily ever after on the story of Ariel. The role of suffering in Andersen s stories is attributed to the desire of young girls for something in which they should not or cannot have. This desire propels the characters in Andersen s stories to make decisions that lead to them losing their own identity as well as their families. Interpretation By Susan Sontag Asif Ali Swetha Antony, Assistant Professor, DU IA Term Paper Sem II 3 APRIL 2015 Susan Sontag s View on Interpretation and its Applications and Analysis Using Bedlam Painting Number Eight Interpretation has been a phenomenon existing from the time immemorial. There has been a long tradition of interpretation, in all occupations. Interpretation of arts and literature has gone to an extent that it has taken shape of a discipline and has grown as a methodology and an art itself. Eliot even says, We might remind ourselves that criticism is as inevitable as breathing . Method of Interpretation has long been a subject of discussion among intellectual circles and it has been subject to a constant evolution ever since it came into being. • 39. Examples Of Masculinity In Margaret Hale Throughout the North and South, Margaret Hale shows a tremendous ability to affirm and alter the masculinity of the men around her. This power is both due to the nature of masculinity itself, as well as Margaret s unwavering convictions about what she perceives to be masculine. For any man, their masculinity will be influenced by the women around them. This is because masculinity exists in a duality with femininity; they define themselves against one another, what is dominant is masculine and what is submissive is feminine, stoicism and emotional, blue and pink. Without one to cast its shadow on, the other loses its structure. Thus, masculinity measures itself against the mensuration that femininity lays out for it. This reliance on one another... Analysis the Grasshopper and the Bell Cricket ANALYSIS THE GRASSHOPPER AND THE BELL CRICKET BY: YASUNARI KAWABATA The grasshopper and the bell cricket is a short story, written by Yasunari Kawabata, written in a narrative perspective of someone watching children searching for insects using colored and decorated lanterns. We are all aiming for acceptance and to fit in to the society, but this story tells us that The author, who put himself as narrator, describes how he walks through the halls of the university and approaches the upper school and its playground, and he seems to get so emotionally attached that he cannot take another turn. When the boy gives away the grasshopper to a girl, who was one of many who wanted it, the girl shouted out Oh! It s not a grasshopper. It s a bell cricket. I read an analysis on this short story on a blog, called Generation , and I agree with his thoughts behind the symbolism of the transformation of the bell cricket from the boy to the girl, he states that it could be translated into the development of love and how, as rare as it is in the wild, one can captivate with a simple giving gesture. The narrator goes on to explain the rarity of such a find; even if you have the wit to look by yourself in a bush away from the other children, there are not many bell crickets in the world. I agree on the romantic messages behind this story, but I would also like to think that it describes, as I mentioned in the beginning of the analysis, life in general with the hunting of acceptation, that it is not only one way to go. After his service, Cavour sought to delve deeper into the politics all around him. In addition to studying political science and political economics, he had the opportunity to watch the political changes of England and France (the French Revolution). In Hurston s novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God, the character that most prominently reflects Hurston s views of womanhood is the protagonist, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, the woman needs some freedom in the marriage, which is demonstrated through Janie s marriage with Joe Starks, whose overbearing nature ultimately caused his marriage with Janie to deteriorate. Although Janie did eventually find her true love, Tea Cake, at the end of the novel, she demonstrated the ultimate act of womanhood by shooting her husband and true love in order to save her own life. This analysis most likely implies that a marriage must be fair to the woman, but the woman must not lose herself in her marriage and be defined by the man in the relationship. Instead, the woman should maintain a clear sense of self and treat her partner as an equal, rather than putting the partner before ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Nutrition and Food Intake Essay Nutrition and Food Intake Since we have been learning about nutrition in class, our task was to record a food log. Nutrition requires a well balanced diet containing nutrient and vitamins like amino acids and fatty acids. Over the past seven days I have been recording and have been looking very carefully at my intake of nutrients, minerals, vitamins, and fats. In our task, the objective was to record the basic foods we ate during the period of seven, but it did not require recording every single detail or our intake of food. Doing this food log was a pain and it was disturbing because I never wrote about what I ate like breakfast, lunch, dinner, or additional meals. I found this food log useful because it helped me learn what I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They new food pyramid says that you should take in 0 2 servings of fish, poultry ,and eggs because all of these contain all the essential amino acids. Since amino acid is the monomer of proteins, this relates to protein. The body uses about 20kmds of amino acids to construct the protein it needs. Amino acids are essential for growth. Fish, poultry and eggs also contain Vitamin B so they are also essential for growth and the functioning of the eyes. The new food pyramid says that you should eat about 1 2 servings of daily products or calcium supplements. Since dairy products contain calcium and a little bit of phosphorus they are essential for the deposition in bones, the formation of ATP and nucleic acids and for the functioning of the heart muscles and nerves. You should limit your intake of red meat, butter, white rice, white bread, potatoes, pasta, and sweets to a ver low amount because if you take too much you can get diseases and disorders. This enables organisation a better at designation of tasks to employees or departments within the company, have well defined responsibilities for employees, and are generally easier to manage. This enables problems to be solved quickly and projects or tasks are done according to plan. Because of this distribution of power and centralisation in decision making, vertical organisation structure provides the organisation the ability to grow efficiently as well increase productivity (Mihm et al. 2010, p 831). As company grows large, management are required to solve problems that are complex because of multiple relevant technologies, globalizing markets, multiple interacting business processes, and collaboration with external partners, vertical organisation structure helps in solving these challenges. A major problem for vertical organisation structure is that because of the pyramid shapes of the structure, it lacks the transparency of information because each layer muddles information more and more and tends to create boundaries between departments or branches in an organization. For example, person down one branch must go up the chain of command on his branch and then down the chain of command on the other branch in order to interact with someone down the chain of command on a different branch (Damraks 2009, p7 8). This may lead to poor inter group interaction which can result in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. DNA And Crime Scene Analysis Each year about 33,000 crimes are solved by DNA database, therefore, showing that DNA has an important element when determining and finding potential suspects who may have committed the crime. DNA, or deoxyribonucleic acid, is a substance that makes up an individual s genetic identity. DNA is found in all organisms, but more the abundance of DNAis found in cells which include a nucleus or nucleated cells ( preservation and collection of biological evidence ). Within a crime scene detectives and officers can use common materials such as tissues, pillows, a bottle, and more. When a detective finds cases in which DNA is present, they can take the samples back to lab to extract and quantify the DNA to see if they can do further analysis on... In order to extract DNA from hair it is important to use the follicle of the hair. DNA is easily found in the root and follicle of the hair because it is connected to the blood stream (Heywood, 21 22). When attempting to extract the DNA from the hair, forensics attempt to wash out all of the protein, therefore, the only thing left is the pure DNA sample. However, there is not a 100% chance that protein will be washed out completely, meaning that there is a chance that DNA could be contaminated, in other words the DNA would be hard to read and find a yield. In addition, due to this fact the average success rate of yielding DNA from hair is 60 70% ( A Simple Method of Genomic DNA Extraction from Human Samples for PCR RFLP Analysis ). However, unlike hair cells, cheek cells are much simpler to extract DNA from. This is due to the fact that the tissue inside of your mouth, contains a lot of available DNA when the area is shedded (Smith, 43). When the popsicle stick is rubbed along the tissue it allows for cells to be shedded, therefore it is easy to obtain the cells, when one rinses saline buffer inside of the mouth and spits back into a microcentrifuge tube (Smith, ... • 54. Public Administration Vs. Private Administration Introduction Public Administration is like any other administration, it is a process of translating the policies in the overall interests of the general public; which are then carried out into the results that can either benefit or hinder the general well being of society and the people living within this democratic monarchy. Although, in order to distinguish what is public from what is private and what is politics from what is administration, you have to know who is being affected and how they are being influenced. If the government refuses to sponsor health insurance programs; such as Medicare and Medicaid, under the PPACA, then public consumers; such as ourselves, will otherwise go without medical insurance and perhaps, without necessary medical care. The insurance companies will undoubtedly refuse to meet the requirements that were put into place under this act; thus declining to reimburse doctors with the maximum payout; or Minimum Essential Coverage (MEC), based on their own algorithms. With this act in place, the price of a medical commodity; such as a prescription, or service; such as vision and or dental care, continues to remain low and or competitive. Recommendation [or Recommendations] What is Trump s solution for ObamaCare, if this disastrous act collapses under its own weight ? If everything about this act truly fraudulent and broken, then maybe we should just throw it away and forget about it; or perhaps, or we can simply afford to fix what s broken about it . After carefully reviewing the pros and cons of ObamaCare, it was my decision that ObamaCare should not be repealed and replaced; but simply modified to fill any hairline fractures within the infrastructure. Most of the disadvantages of ObamaCare can easily be seen as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
