Critical Analysis Of Sustainability Principles
Essay Critical Analysis of Sustainability Principles submitted by: Tanvi Rawat
Student ID: S3523444
Q.2 what is the relationship between sustainability and anthropogenic climate change, and how can an
understanding of these linkages be used to guide policy from the global to the local scale?
Ans. Sustainability is promoting social, economic growth with preserving the environment, whereas
the Anthropogenic Climate change is influencing natural and human living conditions. With an
increase in the risk of disaster which is turning to be a constrain in development and growth. The
anthropogenic generation of greenhouse gases (GHGS) is continuously making the temperature rise.
The energy use for industrial production and goods, services since last 200 years changed the
atmospheric conditions. The contents of greenhouse gases like CO2 (carbon dioxide), N2, O (nitrous
oxide), O3 (tropospheric ozone), CH4 (methane) (Trenberth, 1992), which is the main cause of natural
disaster like draught and flood which ultimately becomes a cause of economic loss. (Pachauri and
Reisinger, 2007) For sample During 1980s the financial misfortunes from dry seasons totalled a few
hundred million U.S. dollars in Africa, its seen that dry spells and surges are more basic since most
recent 30 years, around 25% of the contemporary African populace encounters high water stress.
Around 69% of the populace live under states of relative water wealth. Henceforth the

A New And Accurate Digital Approximation Of The Fractional...
Abstract In this article a new and accurate digital approximation of the fractional order differentiator
(FOD) in the form of FIR filter is presented. This approach is based on power series expansion of
fractional order systems. First, the first order digital differentiators can be simply derived from a
classical continuous time approximate differentiator by using the Bilinear transformation. Then, the
transfer function of digital FOD is obtained by taking fractional power of the transfer function of
conventional first order digital differentiator. Next, the power series expansion is used to design digital
FIR fractional order differentiator, with closed form formula. Finally, some examples are presented
through the paper to illustrate the performance and the effectiveness of the proposed design method.
Keywords Fractional order differentiator; FIR filter; power series expansion; Bilinear transformation.
I. INTRODUCTION In the last decades, considerable interest in fractional order operators has been
simulated by the applications of these concepts in different areas of engineering [1 10]. Analog and
digital implementations of this type of operators are then important research topics. Because they
cannot be exactly implemented, only a limited implementation can however be achieved in a
frequency band of interest using approximation techniques. In reference [4], we can find a good
summary of the existing methods of their analog implementation by rational functions. In

Explain Why Did Horace Greeley Want More Young People To...
Horace Greeley sole reason for his quote Go west, young man go west, was to get more young people
to not only travel to the west but stay and make a better life for themselves. It says that the western
part of the United States had a lot more opportunities for employment and a lot more opportunities to
change your social status. The reasons why I believe Horace wanted more young people to travel west
were to be given the opportunity to find employment and take better care of their families. The
farmland in the west was more fertile and could create more opportunities for farmers to grow and sale
their produce, which could contribute to the economy. Also in 1851 the railroads were beginning to
expand which made way for more trade and more organizations to trade their supplies all over the
country instead of just within one state. Another reason Horace Greeley wanted more young people to
travel west was because sometimes young people stay in one place for the rest of their life, and many
times their hometowns may not have a lot of opportunities to offer them, so that leaves those young
people poor and with no jobs. If these young people were able to travel west then ... Show more

these young people were able to travel west then that could create a better situation for not only
themselves but for the economy. If there are more people working then that could create more jobs in
the future. The Homestead Act played a major part in white Americans migrating to the west also
because it promised individuals that stayed public land. The Homestead Act gave those people in
poverty in the bigger cities the opportunity to change their social class by farming if they migrated

Scout And Jem Meet Boo Analysis
I predict that scout and jem will not meet Boo. One reason they will not meet Boo is because they are
scared of Boo. According to the people in the town Boo looks very scary. He has a big scar on his
face. Also they believe he is six and a half feet tall. He has blood stained hands because he kills
animals and eats them. Boo has a bad reputation, he was in a gang. People say that he killed his dad by
stabbed him with a scissors. Also he only goes out at night, and he looks into windows and stocks
people. Another reason why they will not meet Boo is because he is locked in the house. The whole

Racial Differences At A Young Age Essay
I became aware of my racial difference at a very young age. I do not remember this but my parents
told me that I only wanted black baby dolls when I was old enough to start talking and asking for
things. I do remember wishing to be the black Barbie doll. I would throw pennies into wishing wells
and make wishes on shooting stars that I would wake up as the black Barbie. It was then that I realized
the difference of my white skin in comparison to my idol that had dark skin. I also went through a
stage before school started where I was obsessed with Asian culture. I only wore kimonos, wore
eyeliner, slept on a futon, pretended to know Chinese and had my whole room decorated in Asian
décor. My uncle told me before I learned to actually speak English and I was babbling that I would
sound like I was speaking in Chinese and that we would sit and have Chinese conversations. My mom
was teaching at a title one elementary school and enrolled me in the head start next door. The majority
of the children that were enrolled were Hispanic. I went from head start to fifth grade with mostly
Hispanic friends and culture and I loved it. The town I went to school in had three elementary schools
and one middle school and one high school. When I started middle school I was separated from many
of my Hispanic friends because they were in English as a second language classes and I was thrown
into a classroom with mostly Caucasian children that I did not grow up with, it was like changing
schools.

Stereotypes In The Searchers Movie
The Searchers (1956) directed by John Ford is a Western movie following the life of Ethan Edwards
as he searches for his niece, Debby, who was captured by a Comanche tribe. In this film, there is a
scene (1:13:42 1:15:50) which shows Ethan and Marty going into a US Cavalry fort to see if the
Cavalry officers have Debby or not. When Ethan and Marty go into the fort, they see a white woman
on the floor, screaming and rocking around, and two girls sitting dumbly. Then Ethan and Marty
decide that Debby is not there and leave.
In this scene, diegetic sound, sound that can be heard by the actors, is a prominent element. Dialogue
is heard in this scene, and is exchanged by a few of the characters (Ethan, Marty, Officers and the lady
on the floor). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the time this film was made, the dying days of the classic Western, Native Americans were being
portrayed as the savage side less and less. (ref: http://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/great movie the
searchers 1956). The director, John Ford, believed that hatred of Native Americans was wrong, but the
message in this scene of the film contradicts his beliefs. However this does not mean John Ford was
racist, it simply shows the ideas that were common in society in the time this film was made. John
Ford used the characters Ethan and the US Cavarly officers to embody the ideas of society in the 1950
s. Later in the film, the prejudice against Native Americans reduces in Ethan s character. At the time of
this scene, he hates Native Americans with no exceptions. However near the end of the movie he
becomes more tolerant of Native Americans, for example when he brought Debby home safely instead
of killing her. As killing Debby would ve put Ethan into bad light, the decision of him not killing her
brings an anti racism message, which was something that John Ford believed in. This helps highlight
change of character in Ethan. It shows that people should look past race and skin colour when making
decisions about and loving people. In comparison to the racist message in

Essay about Advertising In Baseball Stadiums
Introduction
Baseball is considered to be America s favorite pastime and has become popular all over the world.
This sport is watched by millions of people every time there is a game played. People will go to the
stadiums to watch and a lot of fans will watch the game on television. Since there are so many people
watching these games, advertising has become more and more apart of every baseball stadium due to
the amount of exposure a company can receive by using the many types of ads found in a baseball
stadium. The stadiums use billboards, fences, green screens, merchandise, airplanes, names of
stadiums, and scoreboards as all different ways to advertise a company s product.
Billboards

It is the background of the outfielders and whenever a ball is hit out there or someone wants to look at
the scoreboard, people have to look at the outfield and have really no choice to look at the
advertisements on the fences. GAP Inc. really benefited from company s putting there ads on the
fence, because left centerfield and right centerfield are called the gap in baseball leaving a lot of
stadiums to use GAP as their advertisement in that area on the fence. Fences are really useful due to
how visible they are throughout an entire game.
Green Screens
Technology is making advertising much easier in baseball stadiums and the use of green screens is
really starting to take off. Greens screens are only visible to fans watching the game on television, but
are very useful due to how easy it is to switch an advertisement during an inning of the game. The
green screens are usually located behind the umpire on the backstop to left of batter s box for left
handed batters. This is not a distraction to pitchers or infielders, because they use a green screen which
is similar to the centerfield sitting area. This area never sits any fans and is either black or green in a
stadium so that the batter is not distracted when a pitcher is throwing a pitch. Marketers like the ads
because they dominate the background behind the pitcher hitter confrontation, which is the central
image in a baseball telecast. Plus, if an advertisement takes place during

the smoke that is forming coming from the exhaust pipes of the tractor appeals to emotions in several
ways. For instance, it immediately grabs the audience s attention on how much power of gas it is
consuming in order to pick up the garbage and causing to create dark clouds. The amount of garbage
also suggest the emotion of guilt to viewers. It is saying that if someone litters, they will cause ocean
pollution and cause marine animals to die. Therefore, the viewers will think twice about littering
because it will clearly increase to cause more and more marine animals death each

Young Misleading Love in Romeo and Juliet
Young love is a very deep immature feeling, which tends to misguide those affected by it, and the
affected ones fall too deeply in love, which leads to a tendency of self destruction. The concept of the
young misguiding love is emphasized in the drama, Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare.
Romeo and Juliet are young when they first see each other and make the mistake of loving each other
without knowing their family names. Their deep love without any understanding of the concept of
love leads to the young lovers committing suicide, which is a rash decision. They do not embrace their
situation, and think about other solutions other than suicide. Romeo and Juliet act on impulse and

He jumps right in, and tells Balthasar to get the horses ready at once. Romeo and Juliet s lack of
maturity also causes them to love one another without a limit. They are too immature to realize that
the feeling of love should not conquer common sense and reasoning. They love each other too such an
extreme, that they are inseparable; and once separated, they are willing to go up to any extent to be
loyal to each other and their love. This idea is strongly emphasized when Juliet is willing to kill
herself rather than marry Paris which proves that she is loyal to her love. Romeo, in return, kills
himself after he sees Juliet dead, which shows that he too is loyal to his love. Romeo and Juliet are
both young and immature when they fall in love with each other, and their immaturity results in them
not understanding that love has its limits. The young lovers love to an extreme neglecting love s
limits, which leads to them not taking mature decisions and steps, but rather rashly and abruptly on
impulse to honor their love for each other. Romeo and Juliet feel such a burden to honor their love for
each other that they end up committing suicide.
Romeo and Juliet s excessive love and blind love are the most powerful ingredients to their self
destruction. The young lovers, Romeo and Juliet s idolatry for each other symbolizes excessive love
by them willing to go against their families and committing suicide at the

Democracies are more likely to win “Total Wars” than...
The term total war has been attributed to a small number of conflicts. The term was originally coined
by the German military officer Erich Ludendorff in his book The Total War . Previous to this the
renowned military theorists Carl von Clausewitz and Antoine Henri Jomini both touched on the raw
principles of total war , but failing to ever recognise the term Ludendorff went on to fashion. It was
not until the 1950s that the term re emerged to describe the nature of the conflict during the First and
Second World Wars, whilst a number of wars previous to this have characteristics of total wars , the
primitive state of national economies and refusal to fully mobilise the economy purely for war can

The use of violence to repress and monitor was a common theme used by dictators to control their
peoples. This was uncommon in democracies, for example the British Prime Minister Winston
Churchill did not have his own personal guard, answerable only to himself; it was Churchill who was
scrutinized by the people, the reverse of the situation pertaining in both Germany and the Soviet
Union. Totalitarianism endangers the stability of a nation as there will be growing internal unrest due
to the excesses of terrorism, the denial of rights and the inability of large segments of the population to
participate in public affairs . It was these basic democratic principles which were absent throughout
the totalitarian regimes of the 20th Century; as a single man s ideology was allowed to develop
unrestricted, with little input from either a strong government or the general public.
In the autocratic governments of wartime Europe the chain of command was rigidly maintained from
the top down, unlike democracies where the chain was more susceptible to variation. The effects of
the totalitarian administrative structure manifest themselves in subordinates inability to question
orders and policies which leads to further disregard for the negative consequences of such commands.
A fine example of this would be German high command s inability to make intuitive judgements
without the Fuhrer s expressed permission, on the day of

The Thane Of Cawdor By Stefan Reread
The Thane of Cawdor, Stefan reread the black ink that stained words onto the sandy brown paper that
had been worn from old age. He pushed back from his slouched position that had his back aching due
to tense muscles in his back from stress. He didn t know what was right or wrong anymore. A red
blotch harboured his cheek where he had rested his head on his coarse hand. Growing irritated at his
own behaviour, the worrying, anxiety and confusion, he stood abruptly out of his wooden desk chair,
the legs scraping against the mahogany floor boards. A sound that resembled an animalist growl,
gurgled at the back of his throat. He snatched the paper up from the office desk and it crumpled in his
tightening fist. He took his anger out on the creaky floorboards as he stomped around his castle. *
Stefan s wife, Katherine peeked around the corner at her husband as he opened the door to the attic
harshly. Frowning, Kathrine scurried into his office to look through his stuff as she was suspicious of
her husband s behaviour. She feared the worst. When she made it into his office, she heaved a sigh
leaning against the door that she had closed very quietly. Her curly dark brown hair cascaded around
her oval face that was etched with uneasiness. Her exquisite chocolate swirled eyes, darted around the
room as if she were expecting something, or someone to pop out and hurt her. A week ago Kathrine
questioned her husband about his change of behaviour. She hadn t expected him to lash out on

Understanding Labor Relations And Collective Bargaining
Understanding Labor Relations and Collective Bargaining In the video, Understanding Labor
Relations and Collective Bargaining , Donald Carty, CEO of American Airlines at that time, expresses
the disappointment of the many executives in a union environment face in regards to labor costs.
Shortly after this video, Mr. Carty had announced executive retention bonuses and pension protection
right after most union members had already voted to accept over $1 billion worth of wage and benefit
concessions (Zellner, 2003). Needless to say, this didn t brief too well to the point that two of the three
unions were calling for new votes (Zellner, 2003). Mr. Carty claimed that it was merely to keep the
company out of bankruptcy. So, if the labor costs were part of American Airlines restructuring before
the contract negotiations as Mr. Carty had stated, what other preparations would have the company
took prior to the negotiation process? What federal government agencies were involved in the labor
relations? And what type of response would be expected from the unions that represent American
Airlines employees after comments such as the ones Mr. Carty stated? Preparations Prior to a
Negotiation Process Preparation for any negotiation should start with a number of steps designed to
develop your negotiating strategy (Lynn, 2002). The company should have reviewed union agendas
from previous negotiations, if there were any. This would have allowed them to analyze arguments

The Pros And Cons Of Conscription In The Military
Throughout human history, war has permeated the lives of billions of people. From early conflicts
such as conquests to control vast swaths of land by Alexander the Great and Cyrus the Great to
modern, global wars such as the World Wars, the concept of war has been at the forefront of humanity
s mind for centuries. However, in recent years, opposition to war and lack of participation in the
military has become a common theme in many countries, including the United States. To help
alleviate the troubles caused by lack of participation, the United States instituted a law allowing for
the conscription of its citizens. Conscription, which can also be referred to as a draft, is defined as the
compulsory drafting of citizens into military service (What). The Draft has been utilized throughout
US History in a couple of prominent wars; however, opposition has manifested against the Vietnam
War and the draft, rightfully stemming from ethical opposition to the war and hatred for what the war
and the draft stood for. The idea of conscription has been in the American eye throughout the entire
history of the country. The idea of the registration of all men in America to be in the military was first
introduced by George Washington. After witnessing the difficulties with creating a well trained militia
during the Revolutionary war, Washington thought it was best to have all men join the military to
more effectively defend the country. However, Congress did not pass any legislation that

The Tale of Youth
The Tale of Youth
Chaucer s Squire s tale has often been disregarded by critics as fragmentary, incoherent, and a
rambling narrative. (Lawton 106) These characteristics shed a malevolent light on the tale, and raise
questions on the unfinished status in the Canterbury Tales. The argument presents itself due to the
interruption of the narrative by the Franklin leaving it without the ending, which has been
foreshadowed earlier in the tale. The answer to this enigma is pure speculation. (Lawton 123) In order
to examine the congruity of the tale with its teller, it is imperative to set aside the argument and let
these be faults of the narrator, not the author, [with] attention duly shifting to Chaucer s creature, the

He knows the tropes, and is quite familiar with occupatio, as it guilefully takes almost as long to

The Rate Of Preterm Birth Essay
For when a child is born the mother is also born again, has been rightfully quoted by Gilbert Parker
(Gilbert Parker, n.d.). Childbirth is one of the greatest privileges on the earth anyone could have and
we, as women, should feel proud to be major contributors for it. Thus, a mother has to play a key role
in aiding the healthcare workers to mitigate the health crisis associated with childbirth by performing
her duties faithfully. One such associated health crisis is Premature (preterm) birth which occurs when
the baby is born too early, before 37 weeks of gestational period (CDC, 2015). The rate of preterm
birth ranges from 5% to 18% of babies born across 184 countries (WHO, 2015). Premature birth is an
important public health priority in terms of health of women and infants. Every year an estimated 15
million preterm babies are born and this number is still rising (WHO, 2015).In 2014, 1 of every 10
babies born in United States were premature and black infants were 50% more likely to be born
premature than white, Hispanic and Asian/Pacific islander infants (CDC,2015). Almost 1 million
children die each year due to complications of premature birth (WHO, 2015). Major survivors face
lifelong disabilities like learning disabilities, hearing, visual, feeding, digestive, breathing and
respiratory problems (CDC, 2015) and low birth weight (March of Dimes, 2014). A major challenge in
decreasing the rate of preterm birth is

The Wizard Of Oz By L. Frank Baum
The conspiracy regarding the Illuminati has circulated for several years. This theory states that, there
is a global elite society that is either in control or seeking to take control of the world (Citation).
Beliefs regarding the Illuminati conspiracy are prevalent in recent books and movies, reaching the cult
fiction perception. A significant example is The Wizard of Oz, written by L. Frank Baum. The history
behind The Wizard of Oz proves that this story line has had an essential role in the occult world all

Illuminati. Throughout the book, there are occult practices and rituals involving supernatural powers
and unworldly mysteries. The Wizard of Oz is comprised of remarkable stories and vibrant characters
that categorize it as an American classic (Citation). However, the author who created the Wizard of Oz

practices, combing them into principles then organizing them into universal guidelines. The sequence
of books created illustrates a theosophical fairytale that incorporates ancient wisdom of the mysterious

Communication In Autistic Children
The definition as well as the symptoms of autism have been mentioned in the previous part of the
research proposal. Symptoms of autism will usually start showing when a child is around 18months
(Hourigan Hourigan, 2009:40). The main problem concerning autism that this literature study will
focus on is the delay and defect with regards to communication in the autistic child with specific
reference to the classroom situation.
Extensive studies have been done on the autistic spectrum disorder. These children will be introverted
and usually live their lives in an isolated world. They struggle with many different aspects of everyday
life which causes them to retreat into their comfort zone of seclusion. Educators and teachers should
strive to understand this comfort zone in order to be able to relate and communicate effectively with
these children. Autistic children struggle to relate with one another, communications are extremely
difficult. Different strategies should be implemented to encourage and help autistic learners to

The Goals And Goals Of The Black Panther Party
Civil rights are something every person should have. It s the thing that allows people to think and act

that African Americans didn t deserve civil rights. They began to become groups that banded together

brotherhood of a wealthy city. Merchant of Venice contains rascals and heroes. The audiences will
soon realise that Shylock, the Jewish money lender, is shown as a villain within the wealthy city. Is
this really what Shakespeare had intended? This testimony given proposes that Shylock is more of a
deceitful character than what the Christian colony wants us to comprehend. In my essay I intend to
explore if Shylock is really a villain or a victim of his society.
Shylock is a Jew, which is why the Christians of Venice dislike him. This is shown ... Show more

This is going to bring shame on Shylock in front of everyone. This is shown by Jessica saying Our
house is hell (Act 2 Scene 3 Line 2) and Shylock saying She is damn d for this (Act 3 Scene 1 line
29). These quotations tell you that Jessica thinks that the rivalry of Jews and Christians is tedious.
While Shylock is telling Salanio and Salarino that if Jessica runs away with Lorenzo, a Christian
trader, it will bring shame on the Jewish people. The reason for this is because Shylock believes in his
Jewish roots that Jews will be Jews and Christians will be Christians.
A further reason why Shylock is shown as a villain is because he is intending on revenge against
Antonio. The reason for this is because of the loan Shylock gave Antonio. I know that Shylock wants
revenge by saying The pound of flesh which I demand of him (Act 4 Scene 1 line 99) and I ll have my
bond… (Act 3 Scene 3 line 4). I choose these quotations because it shows you that Shylock set a three
month deadline to pay back three thousand ducats, and then he could have a pound of flesh from
Antonio if he did not pay it back. The reason for taking Antonio s bond it s to do with the ill treated
manner Shylock had received from the Christians. This had made Shylock become bitter towards
Christians of Venice, but instead Shylock decided to

The Power Of Music In Whitney Houston s When You Believe
Music has the unique power to influence the attitudes and actions of a person. Whether it is used as a
source of hope and soulful reflection on past struggles, like in Whitney Houston s When You Believe,
or to draw strength and determination to Olympians in Vangelis Chariots of Fire, music can provide
spiritual, inspirational or hope filled meaning. In order to inspire and motivate year 12 students, the
electrifying Chariots of Fire is clearly a superior choice compared to the spiritual and soulful When
You Believe. This is evident through the analysis of timbre, dynamics and expression and pitch.
Through the manipulation of the musical element timbre, it is clear that Chariots of Fire is the
favoured selection to inspire and motivate seniors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Chariots of Fire, the consistent ascending and descending movement in the melodic contour, heard
at 0:34 0:50, represents the highs and lows of success, where it is common to get knocked down (seen
in the descending phase) and bounce back (seen in the repeated ascension of the melody). This
encourages students to be persistent to achieve success. When You Believe also has this wave like
contour, highlighted at 1:50 2:05. Unlike Chariots of Fire, this movement gradually ascends during the
climaxes of the piece, creating a sense of uplifting hope and celebration rather than inspiration and
motivation required. When You Believe contains melismas and passing notes, evident at 1:00 1:20.
Whilst this does provide diversity to the piece, the piece loses stability. Dissimilarly, Chariots of Fire
does not include this manipulation. This lack of embellishment successfully grounds the piece,
conveying a sense of drive and determination, motivating students to work hard. Furthermore, When
You Believe has a wide range and register, heard at 2:12 2:25. The use of the high register adds a
dream like and free quality to the piece, not suited to the grounding of senior students. Dissimilarly,
Chariots of Fire has a medium range and middle register successfully grounding the piece, useful
when attempting to motivate senior students. Additionally, the chord progressions throughout Chariots
of Fire portray a sense of unity and strength, through the use of block chords. This has not been
achieved in When You Believe, where the chords are broken into 3 quavers (evident in bars 2 5),
producing a smoother and more subdued mood. The slow harmonic rhythm created by the Db
sustained pedal portrays a sense of endurance and reliability, both linking to the physiognomies of the
characters in the movie and the

Analysis Of The Sweet Hereafter By Mitchelll Stephens
The Man with a Mission, Mitchell Stephens Sometimes there is a situation that one is dragged in to,
such as some type of accident. For example, Mitchell Stephens is one of the narrators in The Sweet
Hereafter by Russell Banks. In his side of the story, he is a lawyer from New York who heard about a
bus accident in Sam Dent where ten children died in a bus crash. Mitchell is also the one lawyer
representing Risa Walker and her husband in a negligence suit that financially compensated them for
the loss of their son Sean. Mitchell is not only just a lawyer like many others but also had more
experience. He sympathizes with the parents who lost their children in the accident because like these
parents who lost their children he also has a daughter Zoe, who is he can consider dead due to her drug
problem. To this reason, Mitchell Stephen has the most to gain by telling his tale to the reader because
he seeks to relieve himself from his grief and to help future children riding to school who do not have
to come to the same fate as others in the accident. One reason why Mitchell is trying to gain
something by telling his tale is that he trying to help the people who lost their children in the accident.
Mitchell might a lawyer but he did not come to San Dent just because there was a good case like the
bus accident and he it was good pay, no, not Mitchell, he even said it himself that he did not come for
the money as Mitchell said people immediately assume we re greedy, that it s money we re after,
people call us ambulance chasers and so on, like we re the proctologists of the profession, and, yes,
there is lots of those ((Banks 90). The reason he came to San Dent was that he was angry because he
knows this was not just an accident as he Mitchell said I knew at once that it wasn t an accident at all.
There are no accidents. (Banks 91). Mitchell wanted to help the people from San Dent by making
them as angry as he was. To forget about their grief and Point their anger to the one who is the culprit.
Other reason to why Mitchell is the one narrator in The Sweet Hereafter that is trying to gain
something by telling his tale is because of him a man on a mission. Like many other lawyers heard

Essay about The Mother Tongue by Demetria Martinez
Demetria Martínez s Mother Tongue is divided into five sections and an epilogue. The first three parts
of the text present Mary/ María s, the narrator, recollection of the time when she was nineteen and met
José Luis, a refuge from El Salvador, for the first time. The forth and fifth parts, chronologically, go
back to her tragic experience when she was seven years old and then her trip to El Salvador with her
son, the fruit of her romance with José Luis, twenty years after she met José Luis. And finally the
epilogue consists a letter from José Luis to Mary/ María after her trip to El Salvador. The essay traces

Although Mary describes him as someone who has actually done something with his life, tried to

Self Reliance By Ralph Waldo Emerson Summary
Ralph Waldo Emerson, in his text, Self Reliance , persuades the audience to adopt individualism and
have confidence in his or her thoughts and actions. His actions and beliefs are reflected through the
Transcendentalist movement, found by him. Emerson aims to convince society that nonconformity
will lead greatness rather than isolate him from it. He achieves this by using strategies such as
personification, analogy, and allusion. Emerson immediately establishes a conflict in the beginning of
the essay by personifying society as the enemy. In line ten, the author states, Society everywhere is in
conspiracy against the manhood of every one of its members. In this conflict set up by Emerson,
society is now the antagonist. Emerson deliberately distinguishes between the success of an individual
and the success of an individual who relies on society and achieves what is needed which is seen in
line five in which Emerson is saying, no kernel of nourishing corn can come to him but through his
toil bestowed on that plot of ground which is given to him to till. A few lines down Emerson mentions
society s members sharing bread to another. Emerson, in saying bread instead of corn and saying
sharing, implies that society gives what is bare necessity to an individual however man himself will
give himself more than what society offers. Society is actually taking away from its members instead
of enhancing or improving their lives by asking its members to concur to surrender the liberty and
culture of the individual. Emerson s intention of making society the enemy is to ultimately make
nonconformity the enemy. By agreeing to society, the individual is conforming to society thus
deviating from society is a better goal for an individual and leads them to distinction in society.
Emerson employs analogy in his essay by comparing society to a joint stock company. In line twelve,
Emerson says, society is a joint stock company, in which members agree, for the better securing of his
bread to each shareholder... This comparison is implying that society s members think of the whole
rather than that of the individual. Society seems to have a notion that they need to do good for all and
in executing that thought they

The results of the focused interview revealed that the major stress related factors in the ICUs pointed
to: shortages of knowledgeable nurses, absenteeism, doctors demands, and lack of support from
management as well as colleagues, and the stress caused by temporary nurses acquired from the
agencies. Recommendations were made towards nursing unit management, further nursing research,
and nursing education. The limitations to this study are that the female participants are in the majority
compared to the male participants and the sample size was rather limited in number, which limits the
potential to generalize the results of this research. Ounder Basim surveyed 248 nurses from five
hospitals in turkey in 2007 to identify the occupational burnout profiles of a sample of nurses, and to
examine alternative developmental models based on these profiles. The Maslach Burnout Inventory
was used to collect burnout data, and the Job descriptive index was used to measure satisfaction with
coworkers and supervisors. The results of the study revealed that a higher level of emotional

emotional exhaustion or depersonalization is not always associated with lower accomplishment. It was
concluded that hospital managers should be watchful for emotional exhaustion rather than

The Revolution Will Not Be Televised Critical Analysis Essay
The Revolution Will Not Be Televised is a poem and song by Gil Scott Heron. Scott Heron first
recorded it for his 1970 album Small Talk at 125th and Lenox, on which he recited the lyrics,
accompanied by congas and bongo drums. The message of the song is the elusive nature of political
culture in Nixons America and the inability of the mainstream to capture the real heart of the people.
Heron uses cultural refrences from the 1970s to express his angerin the 1970s. What he is trying relay

death, of many genres of music due to rampant drug use. Sure, we all know that drugs are bad for you

The use of drugs in the music scene was at its most extreme during the Hardcore Punk movement of
the 1980 s. This scene was entirely different from any that was experienced before. Drug use also held
initial significance in the movement; the inherent connection between recreational drug use and the
production of rock music applied to the Hardcore movement just as it appeared in the music of the 60
s. (Cashbaugh) The punks took any drug that was available to them that was cheap and hit fast and
hard. Inevitably, their drug of choice became speed because, It was cheap, it was around, and you
could play fast music on it. It also curtailed your appetite. In San Francisco, the Negative Trend guys
literally lived on potatoes. (Marzuk) This revolutionary drug let musicians play for days upon end
with no sleep and little need for basic necessities. It may have taken a toll on their bodies, however the
pure, raw energy it created was something never seen before. Drug use, however, does not increase
your creativity. There is no scientific evidence that shows a direct correlation between drug and

What Is The Difference Between Aristotle And Plato
At some point and time every college student will face the task of taking a philosophy class and within
that class will most likely find themselves comparing the views of the ancient Greek philosophers
Aristotle and Plato. As both men knew each other and in fact, Plato was the teacher of Aristotle it s
always interesting to see how the thoughts of the student differ from the views of their teacher. Both
men are equally matched to compare as both critically studied the matters of science, politics, ethics,
and art over their respective life times. While Plato s works have been documented and keep in style
as they have been copied for centuries. It can be argued that Aristotle s work has had the greater
influence in the worlds of politics, ethics, and art. But could that be true? Are the two men so different
in the worlds of politics, ethics, and art?
Though the first contrast truly comes in what is considered their noble ideas. While Plato is known for
Platonic Idealism, Platonic Realism, and Theory of Forms. While Aristotle is known for The Golden
Mean, Reason, Logic, Biology, and Passion. This is not too big of a surprise as most accounts of their
interests show that the two men valued for the most part different things. While Aristotle s reported
interests included things like metaphysics, science, logic, and ethics. Plato is reported to have cared
more for literature, justice, rhetoric, art, education, family and militarism. With the only main interest

Issues In The Progressive Era
The Progressive Era was a time period of widespread social activism and political reform across the

Big businesses were major problem during the progressive era. The progressives didn t want big
companies to have control of monopolies and trust groups that controlled an entire industry. It could in

During this time of the Progressive Era woman s right to vote and the 19th Amendment were in
consideration. This was a slow effort that built over the entire progressive era, and only became
successful with woman s efforts in World War 1 and prohibition. States started to adopt women s
suffrage one by one starting in 1867 with Wyoming and spreading from there. African Americans
chose to be ignored from the progressive movement.
Another problem the Progressives had to deal with was Social Justice. This issue was a bigger hill for
the progressives to climb. The problems they had to correct were Child Labor laws, minimum wage
and shorter work weeks. Jane Addams worked day in and day out to give new immigrants a fair shot
at life. Women also lead a march for prohibition of alcohol in groups like WCTU and the Anti Saloon

The political leaders of the Progressive Era Were President Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard
Taft, and Woodrow Wilson. President Teddy Roosevelt is notorious for the making of the progressive
reform. William Taft was Roosevelt s successor but was not a progressive. He angered
conservationists by removing 1 million acres of forest and mining lands from the reserved list and

The Function Of A Modern Nuclear Power Device And Process
Part 1: Explain the function of a modern nuclear power device and process
The liquid fluoride thorium reactor (LFTR) is a type of molten salt reactor which will generate
electrical power. LFTR s are a hypothetical and innovative solution to the future of power production
which are a viable replacement of the current flawed uranium reactors.
Thorium is three times more abundant than uranium (World Nuclear, 2015) which can be used 200
times more efficient than current uranium usage. Thorium also emits alpha particles which is less
biologically harmful compared to uranium which emits gamma particles. The radiotoxicity of waste
across power production methods can be seen in source 1. The capital costs of thorium reactors are
also lower than conventional nuclear reactors; a 1 gigawatt (GW) thorium power plant costs at an
estimated $780 million in comparison to capital costs currently of $1.1 billion per GW for a uranium
fuelled reactor.
The most prominent nuclear reactors used for electricity generation operate on the uranium fuel cycle.
The fuel used in nuclear reactors is composed two primary isotopes: uranium 235 (235U) and uranium
238 (238U). 235U is a fissile isotope of uranium, while 238U is a fertile isotope. Once 238U is hit by
a neutron, it will go through radioactive decay and become 239Pu (plutonium 239), which is fissile.
Only 0.7% of naturally occurring uranium is 235U where the vast majority is 238U. Thus, most
nuclear reactors use a design where 3 4% of the

Twelfth Night Feste The Fool
According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, the word fool can be defined in many ways. A fool can
be a stupid or silly person , or one who is made to appear foolish , a dupe, a jester, or one who lacks
good sense or judgement . The average child would see clowns or their fathers as silly fools. The more
mature mind would describe fools as drunkards or annoying coworkers. While the many definitions
above are valid, they are not as accurate in describing Feste the Fool in Shakespeare s Twelfth Night.
In actuality, Feste is no fool at all. His wit, smarts, and observational skills make him the most

His choice to stay uninvolved in the many conflicts allows him to remain the impartial observer of the

illuminating the foolishness of human nature through his ability to point out the folly in others. This is
made possible in virtue of his gift for analyzing and judging situations and the other characters. In Act

The Pros And Cons Of Post National Germany
A Post National National Germany Two world wars caused by the hands of Germans lead many
nations to fear any possibility of Germany recovering and rebuilding their national identity. As
Germany has recovered its strength, especially in their economy, it is plausible to think that a Fourth
Reich is inevitable? No. Germany s past will not repeat itself nor do I believe a Fourth Reich will ever
be realized. Foremost, Germany is dependent on others. With an economy built around exports to
those in Europe and around the world. Aggressions against neighboring countries would damage any
economy reliant on those trades. Even if this wasn t an issue, Germany is allied and grouped with
many nations across the world. Germany is a leader in the European Union, a part of NATO, and a
member of the United Nations. Rather than isolate themselves, Germany seeks to unite and help keep

The Topic Of Controlling Women’S Reproductive Systems Has
The topic of controlling women s reproductive systems has been an issue for many years. About a
century ago, birth control in any form was illegal. As women s rights came to the forefront of
American politics, women fought for the right to vote and gained the ability to use contraception and
eventually get abortions. In 1921, The American Birth Control League formed ; this later became
Planned Parenthood, and gained thirty thousand members in its first three years. This organization
founded the first birth control clinic. In 1938, the US Circuit of Appeals decided a case that permitted
physicians to give information about contraception to their patients. By the 1940s, there were three
hundred new birth control clinics and 80% of American ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
States could only enact abortion laws protecting the life of the fetus only in the third trimester, but
exceptions must be made to protect the life of the mother. Linda Coffee and Sarah Weddington fought
the case on behalf of Norma McCorvey (Jane Roe) under the claim that the Texas law banning
abortions violated Roe s constitutional rights to privacy (McBride, Roe v. Wade). The Supreme Court
decided in Roe s favor in a 7 2 decision (Oyez, Roe v. Wade). The decision deemed marriage,
contraception, and child rearing as part of a Constitution guaranteed zone of privacy from the 1st, 4th,
9th, and 14th amendments. This decision also deemed a woman s right to terminate her pregnancy as
part of this zone of privacy. The opposition gave three justifications for banning abortions. The first
was a Victorian like social concern to discourage illicit sexual conduct, the second to protect the life of
the mother, and the third to protect prenatal life. The court rejected the first two reasons, and ruled that
fetuses do not fit the definition of a person (McBride) The court also ruled that if a fetus is viable, then
states may disallow abortions as long as the life of the mother is not at stake, and states may restrict
abortions during the 2nd and 3rd trimesters. Forty six states were affected by this decision.
In 1992, the United States Supreme Court ruled on the Casey v. Planned Parenthood case. While this
case affirmed Roe. v Wade, it

The impact of media s representation of ideal body size on...
(Posavac, Posavac Posavac, 1998). It has even been suggested that the Medias overwhelming
representation of thinness has a large contributing factor towards young women s attitudes of their
own body weight dissatisfaction (Jacobi Cash‚ 1994). This dissatisfaction stems from discrepancies
between the accepted standard of female body image repeatedly shown in today s media and their own
bodies leading to the formation of attitudes that their own weight is not adequate. For example, a meta
analysis comparing the results of 25 studies that presented media images of thin models, reported a
significant effect size (of d= 0.31) across all studies, showing that women feel worse about their own
body image after exposure to thin images than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This finding suggests that by using average size models in advertising, it may protect some women
from developing body dissatisfaction and will help avoid worsening of any existing body image
concerns. Many campaigns have tried to address the detrimental effects that the medias consistent
endorsement of thinness has on women s self esteem, and the subsequent impact on mental health and
eating disorders. More specifically, a recent drive by the Government, in particular the Equalities
minister Jo Swinson, has encouraged the introduction of the use of plus size mannequins and models
by clothing retailers. It has been suggested that many women want to see more realistic images of
body shapes in magazines, TV and on the high street, and having models and mannequins that portray
that may promote healthier attitudes towards our own bodies among women, increasing body
confidence.
Previous research has highlighted the consequences of overrepresentation of thinness in the media on
attitudes about one s own body image, which in many cases leads to negative effects on mental health
and the development of eating disorders. This experiment is designed to investigate how exposure to
medias portrayal of ideal body size effects participants attitudes towards their own body weight. The
novel aspect of this research is that it will compare the effects of media images of fashion on size zero

Peter Senge’s Five Disciplines
1.0 Introduction
Peter Senge was born in 1947, and he graduated in an engineering Stanford and then undertake a
Master in Social Systems modelling at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) and after that he
completed his PhD on Management (Mark,2001). According to Peter Senge , learning organizations
are Organizations where people continuously expand their capacity to create the results they really
want , where expanded and new patterns of thinking are developed, where collective goal is set free,
and where people are continuously learning to see the whole together .
The basic needs for such organization is that in situations of continuous change only those are

In order to impose shared vision, learning organization needs to have flat, decentralized organizational
structures. Shared vision is usually to succeed against rival organizations, but Senge states that there
should also be long term goals that are intrinsic within the company (Boydell,1999).
(e) Team Learning
Team learning is the accumulation of individual learning. The advantage of shared learning is that
employees grow more quickly and problem solving range is improved through better access to
expertise and knowledge. Team learning has features such as boundary crossing and openness which
helps organizations to make decisions in an efficient way. Team learning needs employees to engage
in discussion and dialogue thus team members must develop shared meaning, open communication
and shared understanding (Boydell,1999).

A Myth In Washington Irving s Short Story Rip Van Winkle
Samantha Rockefeller Mrs. Patrick ENG 303 Sec 8 October 2, 2015 Rip Van Winkle Have you ever
wondered what makes Rip Van Winkle a myth, or if the story even is a myth? In Washington Irving s
short story Rip Van Winkle he uses 3 characteristics to present an authentic mythic theme. He creates a
world for his story just beyond the realistic. The remarkable event of Rip sleeping for twenty years
reminds the reader that time is very valuable, which is a theme in the short story. Every answer
puzzled him, too, by treating of such an enormous lapse of time, and matters of which he could not
understand: war Congress Stony Point; he had no courage to ask after any of his friends. (Irving 75)
Rip could not comprehend all the events that he had missed while he was sleeping; he was lost in this
new world. He could not bear to ask about his friends and family after seeing all that had changed.
Time passed right before him without him even knowing it. These are the consequences that Rip is
facing because he did not value time. It is not possible for a human being to sleep for twenty years,
allowing the reader to understand that the short story is a myth. Rip s story was told, for the whole
twenty years had been to him but one night. (Irving 76) To Rip he had just ... Show more content on

Examples Of Mistakes In American History
Nobody is perfect, so everyone all makes mistakes. Human created history and even historical
failures. Some people believe that we usually repeat what we did wrongly before. It sounds similar to
the British author George Bernard Shaw s idea: We learn from history that we learn nothing from
history. However, in my opinion, that idea is completely not correct, because we must learn something
from the mistakes we made in the past, so that we would not do them one more time at the present or
in the future.
In my essay, I will use three examples from American history (from 1877 to the present) to disprove
George Bernard Shaw s statement. They are all the mistakes which the American made in the past
have not appeared until today.

Bush used to say a sentence which was very famous and seemed as his promise. That was Read my
lips: No new taxes . However, in June 1990 Bush abandoned his Read my lips. No new taxes
campaign pledge and acknowledged that new or increased taxes were necessary. Many Republican
conservatives were critical of this shift, and his popularity ratings fell immediately. (8) On March 4,
1992, he said: I thought this one compromise, and it was a compromise, would result in no more tax
increases. I thought it would result in total control of domestic discretionary spending. And now we
see Congress talking about raising taxes again. And some in Congress are talking about trying to break
down the spending caps. And so I m disappointed and given all of that, yes, a mistake. (9)
Let s talk about an example of kept promises. Barak Obama promised to Extend the Bush tax cuts for
lower incomes and he kept his word. He extended the Bush tax cuts for those making less than
$250000 (couples) or $200000(single). (10) He promised to Create an Advanced Manufacturing Fund
to invest in peer reviewed manufacturing processes, and once again he kept his word.
As a president, it would be terrible if that president broke his promise to the public. Once he says
something, he had better follow and do exactly the same as what he said. If not, his words will become
unreliable. Barak Obama was the 44th president of the United States, and it seemed that he learned a
mistake from the 41st president or we can say, from the

Infertility is not hereditary. That a woman has had fertility problems, does not mean to be transmitted
to the child, reproductive history is independent.
4. Smoking greatly influences the time to seek pregnancy. The chances of conceiving are reduced by
50% if the woman smokes.
5. Sexually transmitted diseases can affect fertility, some of them, even after healing, sequelae that
may affect fertility.
6. Many women have been mothers over age 45, but the vast majority using specifically aided and
reproduction egg donation. The reality is that being a mother naturally from the 40 becomes almost a
mission impossible, well, children are more at risk of suffering with diseases, and the eggs do not have
the same quality as with younger age.
7. To conceive naturally, it is especially important to pay attention to the dates on which you have sex,
are more likely to conceive just before or during ovulation, because sperm can live inside a woman a
couple days after intercourse.
8. Obesity can also get in the way of conceiving. Obesity can cause hormonal imbalances which in
turn interfere with reproductive capacity.
9. Folic acid, iodine and zinc supplements are known to increase a woman s chances of conceiving,

Essay On Grendel And Beowulf
In the novel Grendel and the epic poem Beowulf the reader receives a better experience through a first
person point of view. In John Gardner s Grendel which is written in first person the reader is
constantly engaged. The authors use of first person provides the reader of Grendel s thoughts and
emotion. While, in the epic poem Beowulf which is written in 3rd person does not give the reader any
personal connection.
By using first person we have more insight on the characters inner emotions and the reader gains
justification of why the characters act in a specific way. Beowulf thirteen fearless followers venture
onto geatland. It was a paved track a path that kept them in marching order their male shirts glinted
hard and hand linked the high gloss iron of their Armour rang this quote from the epic poem Beowulf
just describes what is happening it s boring, we also don t get any insight on his thoughts feelings and
emotions. However, in Grendel when he met Beowulf for the first time we knew exactly what he was
thinking, I am suddenly annoyed no longer amused by his stupidity Grendel was getting along with
Beowulf somewhat but after talking to him for a little bit Grendel was getting annoyed. First person is
a lot better because it gives the reader thoughts and emotions that third person can not provide.
The use of third person adds enormous amounts of unimportant detail which makes the reader lose
interest. Third person makes the story boring when Grendel and Beowulf

The valuation process, in this case, requires us to estimate the short run non constant growth rate and
predict future dividends. Then, we must estimate a constant long term growth rate at which the firm is
expected to grow. Generally, we assume that after a certain point of time, all firms begin to grow at a
rather constant rate. Of course, the difficulty in this framework is estimating the short term growth
rate, how long the short term growth will hold, and the long term growth rate.
What are the expected dividend yield and capital gains yield during the first year?
P0=46.66 Expected dividend yield= 2.6/46.66 = 5.6%

A measure of financial performance calculated as operating cash flow minus capital expenditures.
Free cash flow (FCF) represents the cash that a company is able to generate after laying out the money
required to maintain or expand its asset base. Free cash flow is important because it allows a company
to pursue opportunities that enhance shareholder value. Without cash, it s tough to develop new
products, make acquisitions, pay dividends and reduce debt.

Direct Fire Assets Helped Impacted The Battle Of Okinawa
Having in direct fire assets helped impacted the battle of Okinawa enormously. There were dilemmas,
troubles, and endeavors. This battle lead to the progression of our artillery. It educated the military
showing it is difficult to shoot, move, and communicate effectively when moving with the fast pace of
a battle. Throughout the 82 day battle they used marine air, artillery, mortars, and naval gunfire.
Artillery provided fires delaying, disrupting, and destroying the enemy proving who the true king of
battle is. The battle for Okinawa begin on 01Apr1945 and went until 22Jun1945. The capture of
Okinawa was part of the plan to win the Far East war. The island of Okinawa is a part of a group of
islands at the southern end of Japan. The main focus for the Americans were four airfields that were
on the island that they wanted to control. The forces that made up the American landing party were the
III Amphibious Corps and XXIV Corps, making the Tenth U.S. Army under the command of
Lieutenant General Simon Bolivar Buckner Jr. American forces had not been able to gather very much
intelligence about the island which made it difficult to determine how many enemy forces there were.
There were over 130,000 Japanese troops waiting on the island. There were over 450,000 civilians
which made operations harder for American forces. The enemy forces where mainly down in the
southern sector of the island waiting for the Americans. The beach landings on the island where

Essay On Angle Analysis Paper
Introduction: The group of Kayla Morabito, Garrett Lewis, Rebecca Oviedo and Zach Prow were
tasked with measuring the PLM building on Main Campus at Wake tech. The first step was to find the
building then measure perpendicularly out thirty feet using a string and measuring tape. Starting from
the ground, at zero feet, one group member held the protracted while the other looked at the angle
created by the top of the building. The group members would rotate places to double check the angle
measure to ensure accuracy. The same process would occur at two and four feet off the ground all still
at thirty feet away; now a group member would have to hold the tape measure tightly with tension.
The purpose is to find the angle measure created by the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the four feet measurement, the angle was easier to see therefor the height was a little easier to
calculate versus the ground measurement. Although these numbers were in the general area, for all
three calculations some error was present due to estimations of the angle as well as holding the
protractor. This was difficult because it needed to be in the exact same spot for all calculations since a
group member needed to hold it, the proctor did move slightly throwing off the numbers only a few
degrees. The difficulties in this project was obtaining the data from the ground because it was difficult
to get underneath the protractor to see the angle; someone was on the ground looking up at the
building leaving room for interpretation of the angle measure. This process could have been done
differently by choosing a spot with a lower vantage point. For example, if a group was to measure this
building again and there were stairs, to stand at the bottom of the stairs while still on the ground level
that the building is on. This way that the calculations are still measuring from the ground to the top of
the building, but it would be a lot easier to see underneath the angle versus lying on the

Birmingham, Alabama. The White court system made an ordered that stated that Martin Luther King
could not hold protests in Birmingham. Martin Luther King along with the Rev. Ralph Abernathy

The abuse and mistreatment of domesticated animals such as dogs isn t typically an issue that gets a
lot of media attention and usually goes unnoticed by the public eye. This is due to people being either
misinformed or just not knowing about the affects that abuse has in animals, how studies show that
people that abuse animals are also more likely to be arrested for battery against another human, how
30 million animals in the U.S. die each year from cruelty, neglect, and exploitation , and that the
yearly cost to U.S. taxpayers to impound, shelter, euthanize, and dispose of homeless animals: $2

  • 2. Critical Analysis Of Sustainability Principles Essay Critical Analysis of Sustainability Principles submitted by: Tanvi Rawat Student ID: S3523444 Q.2 what is the relationship between sustainability and anthropogenic climate change, and how can an understanding of these linkages be used to guide policy from the global to the local scale? Ans. Sustainability is promoting social, economic growth with preserving the environment, whereas the Anthropogenic Climate change is influencing natural and human living conditions. With an increase in the risk of disaster which is turning to be a constrain in development and growth. The anthropogenic generation of greenhouse gases (GHGS) is continuously making the temperature rise. The energy use for industrial production and goods, services since last 200 years changed the atmospheric conditions. The contents of greenhouse gases like CO2 (carbon dioxide), N2, O (nitrous oxide), O3 (tropospheric ozone), CH4 (methane) (Trenberth, 1992), which is the main cause of natural disaster like draught and flood which ultimately becomes a cause of economic loss. (Pachauri and Reisinger, 2007) For sample During 1980s the financial misfortunes from dry seasons totalled a few hundred million U.S. dollars in Africa, its seen that dry spells and surges are more basic since most recent 30 years, around 25% of the contemporary African populace encounters high water stress. • 3. A New And Accurate Digital Approximation Of The Fractional... Abstract In this article a new and accurate digital approximation of the fractional order differentiator (FOD) in the form of FIR filter is presented. This approach is based on power series expansion of fractional order systems. First, the first order digital differentiators can be simply derived from a classical continuous time approximate differentiator by using the Bilinear transformation. Then, the transfer function of digital FOD is obtained by taking fractional power of the transfer function of conventional first order digital differentiator. Next, the power series expansion is used to design digital FIR fractional order differentiator, with closed form formula. Finally, some examples are presented through the paper to illustrate the performance and the effectiveness of the proposed design method. Keywords Fractional order differentiator; FIR filter; power series expansion; Bilinear transformation. I. INTRODUCTION In the last decades, considerable interest in fractional order operators has been simulated by the applications of these concepts in different areas of engineering [1 10]. Analog and digital implementations of this type of operators are then important research topics. Because they cannot be exactly implemented, only a limited implementation can however be achieved in a frequency band of interest using approximation techniques. In reference [4], we can find a good summary of the existing methods of their analog implementation by rational functions. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Explain Why Did Horace Greeley Want More Young People To... Horace Greeley sole reason for his quote Go west, young man go west, was to get more young people to not only travel to the west but stay and make a better life for themselves. It says that the western part of the United States had a lot more opportunities for employment and a lot more opportunities to change your social status. The reasons why I believe Horace wanted more young people to travel west were to be given the opportunity to find employment and take better care of their families. The farmland in the west was more fertile and could create more opportunities for farmers to grow and sale their produce, which could contribute to the economy. Also in 1851 the railroads were beginning to expand which made way for more trade and more organizations to trade their supplies all over the country instead of just within one state. Another reason Horace Greeley wanted more young people to travel west was because sometimes young people stay in one place for the rest of their life, and many times their hometowns may not have a lot of opportunities to offer them, so that leaves those young people poor and with no jobs. If these young people were able to travel west then ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This leaves those young people poor and with no jobs and no way to take care of their families. If these young people were able to travel west then that could create a better situation for not only themselves but for the economy. If there are more people working then that could create more jobs in the future. The Homestead Act played a major part in white Americans migrating to the west also because it promised individuals that stayed public land. The Homestead Act gave those people in poverty in the bigger cities the opportunity to change their social class by farming if they migrated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to the people in the town Boo looks very scary. He has a big scar on his face. Also they believe he is six and a half feet tall. He has blood stained hands because he kills animals and eats them. Boo has a bad reputation, he was in a gang. People say that he killed his dad by stabbed him with a scissors. Also he only goes out at night, and he looks into windows and stocks people. Another reason why they will not meet Boo is because he is locked in the house. The whole Radley family is very odd. • 6. Racial Differences At A Young Age Essay I became aware of my racial difference at a very young age. I do not remember this but my parents told me that I only wanted black baby dolls when I was old enough to start talking and asking for things. I do remember wishing to be the black Barbie doll. I would throw pennies into wishing wells and make wishes on shooting stars that I would wake up as the black Barbie. It was then that I realized the difference of my white skin in comparison to my idol that had dark skin. I also went through a stage before school started where I was obsessed with Asian culture. I only wore kimonos, wore eyeliner, slept on a futon, pretended to know Chinese and had my whole room decorated in Asian décor. My uncle told me before I learned to actually speak English and I was babbling that I would sound like I was speaking in Chinese and that we would sit and have Chinese conversations. My mom was teaching at a title one elementary school and enrolled me in the head start next door. The majority of the children that were enrolled were Hispanic. I went from head start to fifth grade with mostly Hispanic friends and culture and I loved it. The town I went to school in had three elementary schools and one middle school and one high school. When I started middle school I was separated from many of my Hispanic friends because they were in English as a second language classes and I was thrown into a classroom with mostly Caucasian children that I did not grow up with, it was like changing schools. ... • 7. Stereotypes In The Searchers Movie The Searchers (1956) directed by John Ford is a Western movie following the life of Ethan Edwards as he searches for his niece, Debby, who was captured by a Comanche tribe. In this film, there is a scene (1:13:42 1:15:50) which shows Ethan and Marty going into a US Cavalry fort to see if the Cavalry officers have Debby or not. When Ethan and Marty go into the fort, they see a white woman on the floor, screaming and rocking around, and two girls sitting dumbly. Then Ethan and Marty decide that Debby is not there and leave. In this scene, diegetic sound, sound that can be heard by the actors, is a prominent element. Dialogue is heard in this scene, and is exchanged by a few of the characters (Ethan, Marty, Officers and the lady on the floor). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the time this film was made, the dying days of the classic Western, Native Americans were being portrayed as the savage side less and less. (ref: http://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/great movie the searchers 1956). The director, John Ford, believed that hatred of Native Americans was wrong, but the message in this scene of the film contradicts his beliefs. However this does not mean John Ford was racist, it simply shows the ideas that were common in society in the time this film was made. John Ford used the characters Ethan and the US Cavarly officers to embody the ideas of society in the 1950 s. Later in the film, the prejudice against Native Americans reduces in Ethan s character. At the time of this scene, he hates Native Americans with no exceptions. However near the end of the movie he becomes more tolerant of Native Americans, for example when he brought Debby home safely instead of killing her. As killing Debby would ve put Ethan into bad light, the decision of him not killing her brings an anti racism message, which was something that John Ford believed in. This helps highlight change of character in Ethan. It shows that people should look past race and skin colour when making decisions about and loving people. In comparison to the racist message in ... • 8. Essay about Advertising In Baseball Stadiums Introduction Baseball is considered to be America s favorite pastime and has become popular all over the world. This sport is watched by millions of people every time there is a game played. People will go to the stadiums to watch and a lot of fans will watch the game on television. Since there are so many people watching these games, advertising has become more and more apart of every baseball stadium due to the amount of exposure a company can receive by using the many types of ads found in a baseball stadium. The stadiums use billboards, fences, green screens, merchandise, airplanes, names of stadiums, and scoreboards as all different ways to advertise a company s product. It is the background of the outfielders and whenever a ball is hit out there or someone wants to look at the scoreboard, people have to look at the outfield and have really no choice to look at the advertisements on the fences. GAP Inc. really benefited from company s putting there ads on the fence, because left centerfield and right centerfield are called the gap in baseball leaving a lot of stadiums to use GAP as their advertisement in that area on the fence. Fences are really useful due to how visible they are throughout an entire game. Green Screens Technology is making advertising much easier in baseball stadiums and the use of green screens is really starting to take off. Greens screens are only visible to fans watching the game on television, but are very useful due to how easy it is to switch an advertisement during an inning of the game. The green screens are usually located behind the umpire on the backstop to left of batter s box for left handed batters. This is not a distraction to pitchers or infielders, because they use a green screen which is similar to the centerfield sitting area. This area never sits any fans and is either black or green in a stadium so that the batter is not distracted when a pitcher is throwing a pitch. Marketers like the ads because they dominate the background behind the pitcher hitter confrontation, which is the central image in a baseball telecast. • 10. Young Misleading Love in Romeo and Juliet Young love is a very deep immature feeling, which tends to misguide those affected by it, and the affected ones fall too deeply in love, which leads to a tendency of self destruction. The concept of the young misguiding love is emphasized in the drama, Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare. Romeo and Juliet are young when they first see each other and make the mistake of loving each other without knowing their family names. Their deep love without any understanding of the concept of love leads to the young lovers committing suicide, which is a rash decision. They do not embrace their situation, and think about other solutions other than suicide. Romeo and Juliet act on impulse and make rash decisions without thinking about the ... Romeo and Juliet s lack of maturity also causes them to love one another without a limit. They are too immature to realize that the feeling of love should not conquer common sense and reasoning. They love each other too such an extreme, that they are inseparable; and once separated, they are willing to go up to any extent to be loyal to each other and their love. This idea is strongly emphasized when Juliet is willing to kill herself rather than marry Paris which proves that she is loyal to her love. Romeo, in return, kills himself after he sees Juliet dead, which shows that he too is loyal to his love. Romeo and Juliet are both young and immature when they fall in love with each other, and their immaturity results in them not understanding that love has its limits. The young lovers love to an extreme neglecting love s limits, which leads to them not taking mature decisions and steps, but rather rashly and abruptly on impulse to honor their love for each other. Romeo and Juliet feel such a burden to honor their love for each other that they end up committing suicide. Romeo and Juliet s excessive love and blind love are the most powerful ingredients to their self destruction. The term was originally coined by the German military officer Erich Ludendorff in his book The Total War . Previous to this the renowned military theorists Carl von Clausewitz and Antoine Henri Jomini both touched on the raw principles of total war , but failing to ever recognise the term Ludendorff went on to fashion. It was not until the 1950s that the term re emerged to describe the nature of the conflict during the First and Second World Wars, whilst a number of wars previous to this have characteristics of total wars , the primitive state of national economies and refusal to fully mobilise the economy purely for war can explain why these conflicts were more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The use of violence to repress and monitor was a common theme used by dictators to control their peoples. This was uncommon in democracies, for example the British Prime Minister Winston Churchill did not have his own personal guard, answerable only to himself; it was Churchill who was scrutinized by the people, the reverse of the situation pertaining in both Germany and the Soviet Union. Totalitarianism endangers the stability of a nation as there will be growing internal unrest due to the excesses of terrorism, the denial of rights and the inability of large segments of the population to participate in public affairs . It was these basic democratic principles which were absent throughout the totalitarian regimes of the 20th Century; as a single man s ideology was allowed to develop unrestricted, with little input from either a strong government or the general public. In the autocratic governments of wartime Europe the chain of command was rigidly maintained from the top down, unlike democracies where the chain was more susceptible to variation. The effects of the totalitarian administrative structure manifest themselves in subordinates inability to question orders and policies which leads to further disregard for the negative consequences of such commands. A fine example of this would be German high command s inability to make intuitive judgements without the Fuhrer s expressed permission, on the day of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. The Thane Of Cawdor By Stefan Reread The Thane of Cawdor, Stefan reread the black ink that stained words onto the sandy brown paper that had been worn from old age. He pushed back from his slouched position that had his back aching due to tense muscles in his back from stress. He didn t know what was right or wrong anymore. A red blotch harboured his cheek where he had rested his head on his coarse hand. Growing irritated at his own behaviour, the worrying, anxiety and confusion, he stood abruptly out of his wooden desk chair, the legs scraping against the mahogany floor boards. A sound that resembled an animalist growl, gurgled at the back of his throat. He snatched the paper up from the office desk and it crumpled in his tightening fist. He took his anger out on the creaky floorboards as he stomped around his castle. * Stefan s wife, Katherine peeked around the corner at her husband as he opened the door to the attic harshly. Frowning, Kathrine scurried into his office to look through his stuff as she was suspicious of her husband s behaviour. She feared the worst. When she made it into his office, she heaved a sigh leaning against the door that she had closed very quietly. Her curly dark brown hair cascaded around her oval face that was etched with uneasiness. Her exquisite chocolate swirled eyes, darted around the room as if she were expecting something, or someone to pop out and hurt her. Understanding Labor Relations And Collective Bargaining Understanding Labor Relations and Collective Bargaining In the video, Understanding Labor Relations and Collective Bargaining , Donald Carty, CEO of American Airlines at that time, expresses the disappointment of the many executives in a union environment face in regards to labor costs. Shortly after this video, Mr. Carty had announced executive retention bonuses and pension protection right after most union members had already voted to accept over $1 billion worth of wage and benefit concessions (Zellner, 2003). Needless to say, this didn t brief too well to the point that two of the three unions were calling for new votes (Zellner, 2003). Mr. Carty claimed that it was merely to keep the company out of bankruptcy. So, if the labor costs were part of American Airlines restructuring before the contract negotiations as Mr. Carty had stated, what other preparations would have the company took prior to the negotiation process? What federal government agencies were involved in the labor relations? And what type of response would be expected from the unions that represent American Airlines employees after comments such as the ones Mr. Carty stated? • 14. The Pros And Cons Of Conscription In The Military Throughout human history, war has permeated the lives of billions of people. From early conflicts such as conquests to control vast swaths of land by Alexander the Great and Cyrus the Great to modern, global wars such as the World Wars, the concept of war has been at the forefront of humanity s mind for centuries. However, in recent years, opposition to war and lack of participation in the military has become a common theme in many countries, including the United States. To help alleviate the troubles caused by lack of participation, the United States instituted a law allowing for the conscription of its citizens. Conscription, which can also be referred to as a draft, is defined as the compulsory drafting of citizens into military service (What). The Draft has been utilized throughout US History in a couple of prominent wars; however, opposition has manifested against the Vietnam War and the draft, rightfully stemming from ethical opposition to the war and hatred for what the war and the draft stood for. The idea of conscription has been in the American eye throughout the entire history of the country. The idea of the registration of all men in America to be in the military was first introduced by George Washington. After witnessing the difficulties with creating a well trained militia during the Revolutionary war, Washington thought it was best to have all men join the military to more effectively defend the country. • 15. The Tale of Youth The Tale of Youth Chaucer s Squire s tale has often been disregarded by critics as fragmentary, incoherent, and a rambling narrative. The argument presents itself due to the interruption of the narrative by the Franklin leaving it without the ending, which has been foreshadowed earlier in the tale. The answer to this enigma is pure speculation. Childbirth is one of the greatest privileges on the earth anyone could have and we, as women, should feel proud to be major contributors for it. Thus, a mother has to play a key role in aiding the healthcare workers to mitigate the health crisis associated with childbirth by performing her duties faithfully. One such associated health crisis is Premature (preterm) birth which occurs when the baby is born too early, before 37 weeks of gestational period (CDC, 2015). The rate of preterm birth ranges from 5% to 18% of babies born across 184 countries (WHO, 2015). Premature birth is an important public health priority in terms of health of women and infants. Every year an estimated 15 million preterm babies are born and this number is still rising (WHO, 2015).In 2014, 1 of every 10 babies born in United States were premature and black infants were 50% more likely to be born premature than white, Hispanic and Asian/Pacific islander infants (CDC,2015). Almost 1 million children die each year due to complications of premature birth (WHO, 2015). These quotations tell you that Jessica thinks that the rivalry of Jews and Christians is tedious. While Shylock is telling Salanio and Salarino that if Jessica runs away with Lorenzo, a Christian trader, it will bring shame on the Jewish people. The reason for this is because Shylock believes in his Jewish roots that Jews will be Jews and Christians will be Christians. A further reason why Shylock is shown as a villain is because he is intending on revenge against Antonio. The reason for this is because of the loan Shylock gave Antonio. I know that Shylock wants revenge by saying The pound of flesh which I demand of him (Act 4 Scene 1 line 99) and I ll have my bond… (Act 3 Scene 3 line 4). Whether it is used as a source of hope and soulful reflection on past struggles, like in Whitney Houston s When You Believe, or to draw strength and determination to Olympians in Vangelis Chariots of Fire, music can provide spiritual, inspirational or hope filled meaning. In order to inspire and motivate year 12 students, the electrifying Chariots of Fire is clearly a superior choice compared to the spiritual and soulful When You Believe. This is evident through the analysis of timbre, dynamics and expression and pitch. In Chariots of Fire, the consistent ascending and descending movement in the melodic contour, heard at 0:34 0:50, represents the highs and lows of success, where it is common to get knocked down (seen in the descending phase) and bounce back (seen in the repeated ascension of the melody). This encourages students to be persistent to achieve success. When You Believe also has this wave like contour, highlighted at 1:50 2:05. Unlike Chariots of Fire, this movement gradually ascends during the climaxes of the piece, creating a sense of uplifting hope and celebration rather than inspiration and motivation required. When You Believe contains melismas and passing notes, evident at 1:00 1:20. Whilst this does provide diversity to the piece, the piece loses stability. Dissimilarly, Chariots of Fire does not include this manipulation. This lack of embellishment successfully grounds the piece, conveying a sense of drive and determination, motivating students to work hard. Furthermore, When You Believe has a wide range and register, heard at 2:12 2:25. The use of the high register adds a dream like and free quality to the piece, not suited to the grounding of senior students. Dissimilarly, Chariots of Fire has a medium range and middle register successfully grounding the piece, useful when attempting to motivate senior students. Additionally, the chord progressions throughout Chariots of Fire portray a sense of unity and strength, through the use of block chords. This has not been achieved in When You Believe, where the chords are broken into 3 quavers (evident in bars 2 5), producing a smoother and more subdued mood. The slow harmonic rhythm created by the Db sustained pedal portrays a sense of endurance and reliability, both linking to the physiognomies of the characters in the movie and the ... For example, Mitchell Stephens is one of the narrators in The Sweet Hereafter by Russell Banks. In his side of the story, he is a lawyer from New York who heard about a bus accident in Sam Dent where ten children died in a bus crash. Mitchell is also the one lawyer representing Risa Walker and her husband in a negligence suit that financially compensated them for the loss of their son Sean. Mitchell is not only just a lawyer like many others but also had more experience. He sympathizes with the parents who lost their children in the accident because like these parents who lost their children he also has a daughter Zoe, who is he can consider dead due to her drug problem. To this reason, Mitchell Stephen has the most to gain by telling his tale to the reader because he seeks to relieve himself from his grief and to help future children riding to school who do not have to come to the same fate as others in the accident. One reason why Mitchell is trying to gain something by telling his tale is that he trying to help the people who lost their children in the accident. Mitchell might a lawyer but he did not come to San Dent just because there was a good case like the bus accident and he it was good pay, no, not Mitchell, he even said it himself that he did not come for the money as Mitchell said people immediately assume we re greedy, that it s money we re after, people call us ambulance chasers and so on, like we re the proctologists of the profession, and, yes, there is lots of those ((Banks 90). The reason he came to San Dent was that he was angry because he knows this was not just an accident as he Mitchell said I knew at once that it wasn t an accident at all. There are no accidents. (Banks 91). Mitchell wanted to help the people from San Dent by making them as angry as he was. To forget about their grief and Point their anger to the one who is the culprit. • 27. Self Reliance By Ralph Waldo Emerson Summary Ralph Waldo Emerson, in his text, Self Reliance , persuades the audience to adopt individualism and have confidence in his or her thoughts and actions. His actions and beliefs are reflected through the Transcendentalist movement, found by him. Emerson aims to convince society that nonconformity will lead greatness rather than isolate him from it. He achieves this by using strategies such as personification, analogy, and allusion. Emerson immediately establishes a conflict in the beginning of the essay by personifying society as the enemy. In line ten, the author states, Society everywhere is in conspiracy against the manhood of every one of its members. In this conflict set up by Emerson, society is now the antagonist. Emerson deliberately distinguishes between the success of an individual and the success of an individual who relies on society and achieves what is needed which is seen in line five in which Emerson is saying, no kernel of nourishing corn can come to him but through his toil bestowed on that plot of ground which is given to him to till. A few lines down Emerson mentions society s members sharing bread to another. Emerson, in saying bread instead of corn and saying sharing, implies that society gives what is bare necessity to an individual however man himself will give himself more than what society offers. Society is actually taking away from its members instead of enhancing or improving their lives by asking its members to concur to surrender the liberty and culture of the individual. Emerson s intention of making society the enemy is to ultimately make nonconformity the enemy. By agreeing to society, the individual is conforming to society thus deviating from society is a better goal for an individual and leads them to distinction in society. Emerson employs analogy in his essay by comparing society to a joint stock company. In line twelve, Emerson says, society is a joint stock company, in which members agree, for the better securing of his bread to each shareholder... This comparison is implying that society s members think of the whole rather than that of the individual. Society seems to have a notion that they need to do good for all and in executing that thought they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What Is The Difference Between Aristotle And Plato At some point and time every college student will face the task of taking a philosophy class and within that class will most likely find themselves comparing the views of the ancient Greek philosophers Aristotle and Plato. As both men knew each other and in fact, Plato was the teacher of Aristotle it s always interesting to see how the thoughts of the student differ from the views of their teacher. Both men are equally matched to compare as both critically studied the matters of science, politics, ethics, and art over their respective life times. While Plato s works have been documented and keep in style as they have been copied for centuries. It can be argued that Aristotle s work has had the greater influence in the worlds of politics, ethics, and art. But could that be true? Are the two men so different in the worlds of politics, ethics, and art? Though the first contrast truly comes in what is considered their noble ideas. While Plato is known for Platonic Idealism, Platonic Realism, and Theory of Forms. While Aristotle is known for The Golden Mean, Reason, Logic, Biology, and Passion. The Function Of A Modern Nuclear Power Device And Process Part 1: Explain the function of a modern nuclear power device and process The liquid fluoride thorium reactor (LFTR) is a type of molten salt reactor which will generate electrical power. LFTR s are a hypothetical and innovative solution to the future of power production which are a viable replacement of the current flawed uranium reactors. Thorium is three times more abundant than uranium (World Nuclear, 2015) which can be used 200 times more efficient than current uranium usage. Thorium also emits alpha particles which is less biologically harmful compared to uranium which emits gamma particles. The radiotoxicity of waste across power production methods can be seen in source 1. The capital costs of thorium reactors are also lower than conventional nuclear reactors; a 1 gigawatt (GW) thorium power plant costs at an estimated $780 million in comparison to capital costs currently of $1.1 billion per GW for a uranium fuelled reactor. The most prominent nuclear reactors used for electricity generation operate on the uranium fuel cycle. The fuel used in nuclear reactors is composed two primary isotopes: uranium 235 (235U) and uranium 238 (238U). 235U is a fissile isotope of uranium, while 238U is a fertile isotope. Once 238U is hit by a neutron, it will go through radioactive decay and become 239Pu (plutonium 239), which is fissile. States could only enact abortion laws protecting the life of the fetus only in the third trimester, but exceptions must be made to protect the life of the mother. Linda Coffee and Sarah Weddington fought the case on behalf of Norma McCorvey (Jane Roe) under the claim that the Texas law banning abortions violated Roe s constitutional rights to privacy (McBride, Roe v. Wade). The Supreme Court decided in Roe s favor in a 7 2 decision (Oyez, Roe v. Wade). The decision deemed marriage, contraception, and child rearing as part of a Constitution guaranteed zone of privacy from the 1st, 4th, 9th, and 14th amendments. This decision also deemed a woman s right to terminate her pregnancy as part of this zone of privacy. The opposition gave three justifications for banning abortions. The first was a Victorian like social concern to discourage illicit sexual conduct, the second to protect the life of the mother, and the third to protect prenatal life. The court rejected the first two reasons, and ruled that fetuses do not fit the definition of a person (McBride) The court also ruled that if a fetus is viable, then states may disallow abortions as long as the life of the mother is not at stake, and states may restrict abortions during the 2nd and 3rd trimesters. It has even been suggested that the Medias overwhelming representation of thinness has a large contributing factor towards young women s attitudes of their own body weight dissatisfaction (Jacobi Cash‚ 1994). More specifically, a recent drive by the Government, in particular the Equalities minister Jo Swinson, has encouraged the introduction of the use of plus size mannequins and models by clothing retailers. It has been suggested that many women want to see more realistic images of body shapes in magazines, TV and on the high street, and having models and mannequins that portray that may promote healthier attitudes towards our own bodies among women, increasing body confidence. This battle lead to the progression of our artillery. It educated the military showing it is difficult to shoot, move, and communicate effectively when moving with the fast pace of a battle. Throughout the 82 day battle they used marine air, artillery, mortars, and naval gunfire. Artillery provided fires delaying, disrupting, and destroying the enemy proving who the true king of battle is. The battle for Okinawa begin on 01Apr1945 and went until 22Jun1945. The capture of Okinawa was part of the plan to win the Far East war. The island of Okinawa is a part of a group of islands at the southern end of Japan. The main focus for the Americans were four airfields that were on the island that they wanted to control. The forces that made up the American landing party were the III Amphibious Corps and XXIV Corps, making the Tenth U.S. Army under the command of Lieutenant General Simon Bolivar Buckner Jr. American forces had not been able to gather very much intelligence about the island which made it difficult to determine how many enemy forces there were. There were over 130,000 Japanese troops waiting on the island. There were over 450,000 civilians which made operations harder for American forces. The enemy forces where mainly down in the southern sector of the island waiting for the Americans. The beach landings on the island where prepped with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Essay On Angle Analysis Paper Introduction: The group of Kayla Morabito, Garrett Lewis, Rebecca Oviedo and Zach Prow were tasked with measuring the PLM building on Main Campus at Wake tech. The first step was to find the building then measure perpendicularly out thirty feet using a string and measuring tape. Starting from the ground, at zero feet, one group member held the protracted while the other looked at the angle created by the top of the building. The group members would rotate places to double check the angle measure to ensure accuracy. The same process would occur at two and four feet off the ground all still at thirty feet away; now a group member would have to hold the tape measure tightly with tension. The purpose is to find the angle measure created by the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the four feet measurement, the angle was easier to see therefor the height was a little easier to calculate versus the ground measurement. Although these numbers were in the general area, for all three calculations some error was present due to estimations of the angle as well as holding the protractor. This was difficult because it needed to be in the exact same spot for all calculations since a group member needed to hold it, the proctor did move slightly throwing off the numbers only a few degrees. The difficulties in this project was obtaining the data from the ground because it was difficult to get underneath the protractor to see the angle; someone was on the ground looking up at the building leaving room for interpretation of the angle measure. This process could have been done differently by choosing a spot with a lower vantage point. For example, if a group was to measure this building again and there were stairs, to stand at the bottom of the stairs while still on the ground level that the building is on. This way that the calculations are still measuring from the ground to the top of the building, but it would be a lot easier to see underneath the angle versus lying on the ... • 49. An Analysis Of The Letter From Birmingham Jail I think the Letter from the Birmingham City Jail which was written over 53 years ago, is one of the most brilliant letters I have every read. 1963 was the year Martin Luther King Jr. was arrested and placed in a Birmingham jail because he and others were protesting the treatment of blacks in Birmingham, Alabama. The White court system made an ordered that stated that Martin Luther King could not hold protests in Birmingham. Martin Luther King along with the Rev. Ralph Abernathy decided to form a nonviolent protest in the business section of Birmingham. This was a no, no. The police commissioner Bull Connor lost his bid for mayor during the run off. Losing did not stop Connor. Connor team up with the Police Chief Jamie Moore and they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Domesticated Animal Abuse The abuse and mistreatment of domesticated animals such as dogs isn t typically an issue that gets a lot of media attention and usually goes unnoticed by the public eye. This is due to people being either misinformed or just not knowing about the affects that abuse has in animals, how studies show that people that abuse animals are also more likely to be arrested for battery against another human, how 30 million animals in the U.S. die each year from cruelty, neglect, and exploitation , and that the yearly cost to U.S. taxpayers to impound, shelter, euthanize, and dispose of homeless animals: $2 billion (Oxford Pets). A study from 2001 2004 by the Chicago Police Department revealed a startling propensity for offenders charged with crimes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The prevention of animal abuse can also be a big help in preventing other crimes and can help get criminals off the streets Reporting, investigating, and prosecuting animal cruelty can help take dangerous criminals off the streets. Police know that in homes where animal abuse is a problem, other issues are often concurrent. Of 36 convicted multiple murderers questioned in one study, 46% admitted committing acts of animal torture as adolescents. ( Humane Society, 2011). If more people started mistreatment and abuse of animals we could stop a very big chunk of people that could murder and assault others in the future and in the process stop and bring awareness to the neglect, mistreatment, and abuse of the animals we have sitting at home right ...
