Social And Cultural Events In The 20th And 21st Century
Education has been affected greatly by social and cultural events of the 20th and 21st centuries.
Because education follows the moves of society, the need for new skills in life and in the
workplace change and students can be career and college ready. This, however, has not always
been the case. The first of two main cultural and social events focused on are the events that led up
to the Brown vs. the Board of EducationSupreme Court case, which resulted in the desegregation of
schools. The second are the effects that the Great Recession had on the education system. In the
1940s the Civil Rights Movement began gaining strength and the country began moving slowly to
desegregation. In 1947, in the face of much opposition, Jackie Robinson became the first African
Americanbaseball player. When he traveled to the south he was denied access into hotels,
restaurants, and other venues because of this race. Because Robinson was in the army the armed
forces became desegregated in 1948 and eventually led to the elimination of segregated schools
(Schwartz, 2003). During this era African American students were in separate but equal schools
although many black schools suffered from poor facilities and a lack of funding and other
amenities that were provided at white schools. Black students were often bussed great distances to
attend school. In 1952, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People
(NAACP) lawyers represented the case Brown vs. the Board of education. This case dealt with
the right of a black child to attend an all white school close to her home instead of being bussed
across town to the all black school. Initially, the ruling was in favor of the Board of Education, but
the adverse effects of separate but equal schooling on the black community were clearly shown
(Schwartz, 2003). African Americans were also held back by not having the right to vote. A
literacy exam was required to be passed in order to vote. Because of their schooling restrictions,
many African Americans were illiterate, which denied them of the right to vote. A workshop for the
United Nations drew several community members and teachers from the south (Horton, Freire,
1990). One member who attended

Observation Paper On The Empire State Building

ARC 2701
Observation Paper (Empire State Building)
The Empire State Building is a skyscraper located in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. Its
construction began on March 17, 1930, and was completed on April 11, 1931. John Jacob
Raskob, the creator of General Motors, wanted a building that would have been taller than Walter
Chrysler s building. He went to William Lamb, someone who was a partner at the architectural
firm of Shreve, Lamb, and Harmon and he explains to him his dream of a skyscraper that would
exceed the Chrysler Building. When the Empire State Building was being made, there were only
two criteria that were needed to be followed during the construction: the first one was that it must
resemble a pencil. The second criteria were that it must soar higher than any other structure in the
world. Although the building had many setbacks during the construction of it the building ended up
finishing 45 days ahead of schedule and on top of that the building ended up being $5 million
dollars under budget.
The Empire State Building was then viewed as a new symbol of what felt like a New America.
During the 1920s and the 1930s, the United States was being split from an old style of rural
traditions and eventually was beginning to make modern urban traditions. When the Empire State
Building was being built, it began to fuel the power and wealth of the clients who were children of
immigrants, this then served as a legitimacy status began to represent the face of the

Bubonic Plague Dbq Essay
Why was the Bubonic Plague (Black Death) so Devastating to European Society? The Bubonic
Plague, otherwise known as the Black Death, was a huge epidemic in the mid 1300s. It killed
off about 20 million Europeans within 1348 and 1351and was thought to originate from China
and move westwards through means of infected fleas and rats through shipping and trade
(Document 1). The plague was recorded in the spring of 1348 in Messina, Italy and the summer
that followed, in England. The last region affected by the disease was the Baltic region.
Symptoms that came along with the plague were buboes, large swellings on the lymph nodes,
groin and armpit. One form which invaded the respiratory system, moved the virus to live in the
exhaled breaths of a victim, easily spreading the disease to the next person. Another group of
swellings that covered the body were called... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How Has The West Destroyed Africa
How the west lead to improvished africa
In recent years, attention has been drawn to the extreme poverty that exist in many African nations.
Globalization has only exuburated the gap betweern the Western world and developing countries;
nations such as the US, and Britian continue to grow, while progress in these the third world are
virtually stagnate. The unstable political and economic systems that led to the extreme poverty
these African nations face are a result of Africas long and corrupt history, starting with colonization
of Africa by the west. The colonization of Africa led to the formation of independent African states.

Sexual harassment is no joke. It happens more often than men think it does. A majority of the
women who don t report workplace harassment feel that their job is on the line or women may

Reflection Project Reflection
Wow, it has to be said that it is unbelievable that this is already the fourth week in this course.
Time has gone by so quick, but so much has also been learned in this short time. Although I will
sound like a broken record, I try to pride myself on not only taking a challenge and preserving
through it, but also incorporating new things learned. At the time, things might seem difficult
and habits hard to replace, but I have truly grown to have a new found appreciation to what this
course has taught me. I might not utilize every concept in each thing that I do, but I will
definitely have a different perspective on how something can be done. Week four really tied the
previous weeks together and it became clearer the purpose for going through this process, I can
also have a new appreciation of how this process would be beneficial in a project that is much
larger and detailed. With that being said, although this project is not as in depth as I am sure
something such as, a dissertation might be I can see the benefit of even just the simple thingssuch as
making something too wordy and also still some challenges that seem to haunt me like just the right
thesis statement.
New perspectives for me this week was really that of the simple process of attempting not to be
so wordy. Clearly, I have not perfected this process and I have a lot to practice, but the fact that
it was brought to light was a great beginning. I know that I have a tendency to be too wordy, I
think that part of this is due to the fact that for one I overthink, but also because we learn to think
outside the box and utilize words that sound more collegiate or intellectual (I guess). I think I get
so bogged down in terminology sometimes that I need to take a step back and acknowledge that it
is okay to use the word college for example, instead of higher education . I loved the examples
that our text book gave about how to change a phrase such as, saying an actual color followed by
the explanation that it is a color (Cole Law, 2013). Also the passive and active tones that our writing
can take. These are honestly some new perspectives that I will try to retain and work on.
Then of course is the challenge, my thesis statement. I just cannot seem

The Never-Ending Cycle In George Orwell s Animal Farm
The Never Ending Cycle
Sara Moehring
Like animals to the slaughter. This phrase has been used since biblical times, describing an
unconcerned manner unaware of an impending catastrophe. Perhaps there is some relation to
George Orwell s Animal Farm? Was this intentional? In this dark fairy tale, George Orwell
describes a mid 20th century farm in England that has been taken over by its overworked,
mistreated animals. The humans are replaced by pigs, who eventually end the cycle worse than it
began. The animals chased out a tyrant, just so they could be repressed by a power just as terrible.
The worst thing was, that they couldn t fight back. They lacked the education and knowledge
required to defend their basic rights. Due to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The people blindly followed the new order, communism, because they thought it would lead to a
world where everyone was equal. This happens in Animal Farm, When Old Major s vision, later
called Animalism, was put into practice, the pigs in charge took over and became selfish and
violent, twisting the philosophy until it barely contained an echo of the original intent. The same
thing happened with communism, as Stalin left much of the country penniless and helpless, and
put people to death if they showed the slightest resistance to his regime. The pigs come into power

because they had always been dominated over. With their (the pigs) superior knowledge, it was

Tapon Tax Promoting Stigma And A Barrier To Human Rights
The Tampon Tax: Promoting Stigma A Barrier to Human Rights
Three British women recently made headlines by free bleeding outside the Parliament building in
London. The women wore white pants and no feminine care products making a statement on their
pants about the importance of feminine care products (Gruff, 2015). In the UK as in 40 U.S. states
there is a tax on tampons and other menstruation related products, including sanitary napkins and
cups, justified under the general sales tax. Of the 10 states that do not tax feminine care products,
five of those states have no sales tax. Meaning just five states have decided to abolish the sales tax
on feminine care products. The sales tax applies to feminine care products under the belief that such
products are luxury or non essential purchases. (Hillin, 2015). ... Show more content on

Analysis Of Bad Day By Daniel Poster
Bad Day by Daniel Poster has been a song that has influenced my life since I can remember. It is
really the first song that i remember hearing from my child hood. Every time it came on the
radio me and my mom blasted it. The song goes through the motion in a third person narrative of
someone having a bad day. I remembered during my childhood when I was having a bad day I
would blast this song and it would make me in a better mood. It really begin the foundation of
music for me. This song spoke volumes to me and it would instantly change my mood when I
heard it. Now when I hear it I instantly am drawn to memories of me and my mother blasting it.
It takes me back to my child hood in a way. I remember my favorite lines from the song was, You
re taking one down. You sing a sad song just to turn it around. Its ironic, but sometimes listening
to sad music will brighten my mood. I related a lot with that verse and the rest of the song. This
is why Bad Day by Daniel Poster is part of my attention collection project. Scooby Doo is another
piece of my attention project. Growing up I didn t really like watching a lot of television, but I
do remember loving the show Scooby Doo. I was interested in always trying to figure out the
mystery of who was the person behind all the mischief. I remember when I was sick I would
watch Scooby Doo. It was a big part of my child hood and I also still like to watch it today. It has
taught me that the real monsters are not the made up monsters

Deceptive Accounting and the Global Financial Crisis
Deceptive Accounting and the Global Financial Crisis Name Course Tutor Date Introduction As
with other disciplines, all personnel in the accounting profession ought to uphold high standards of
professional ethics. All firms ought to conduct their affairs with due regard to the welfare of the
parties involved, the economy, and the interests of the public in general. As such, auditors and
accountants ought to be ambassadors of transparency and accountability and their conduct must
indicate as much. In the wake of the housing bubble, the integrity of the accounting profession
came into question amid claims by observers that key professional services firms such as Deloitte
TouchГ©, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), KPMG, and Ernst Young were colluding with their
client firms to perpetuate deceptive accounting in a way that the financial position of the client
firm appeared more stable and progressive. This helped the global financial crisis along. Amid the
crisis, world economies tanked causing the fall of major economic giants. The unprecedented
collapse of Lehman Brothers, American International Group (AIG), General Motors, WorldCom,
Enron, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac nearly took the global economy down with it. In light of
emerging studies, corporate malfeasance was one of the leading causes for the collapse. All firms

Grendel As An Outcast In Beowulf
Beowulf, an old English epic, helps the reader visualize how the Anglo Saxon culture was. This
epic uses many different types of literary archetypes from the Anglo Saxon literature. Beowulf is
about a young prince making a journey to Denmark to help Hrothgar, the king of the Danes. The
author of the English epic Beowulf, shows how Grendel is such an outcast, Beowulf s battles
between good and evil, and how heroic he was throughout his life.
Grendel is an outcast in the land of the Danes, which prompts his attacks on Herot Hall. Grendel,
a powerful monster (Beowulf l. 1), was the biggest outcast in the land of the Danes. He felt left
out because the warriors would always party and have a good time at Herot Hall without him.
Herot Hall was a building built by Hrothgar for his warriors to have a relaxing place to unwind
after a long day of work. Grendel wanted to have a good time like the warriors did at the hall,
but could not because the warriors would try to kill him. He got fed up with being the outcast of
the town and decided that once night fell, he would terrorize Herot Hall. As he approached the
doors of the hall his thoughts became as quick as his greed or claws (Beowulf l. 35). He opens
the door snatching thirty warriors in his hands as they sleep instantly killing them. As he takes
them back to his lair the blood from their bodies leave a trail behind him. Hrothgar is devastated
when he found out that Grendel had taken the lives of his friends. After this

A Meeting At The First Congregational Church
I went to an AA meeting at the First Congregational Church in New London, Connecticut on
Monday February 22, at 7 pm. It was located in a larger room in the basement of the church. There
were around fifteen members that attended. The individual s came from an array of different ages
and ethnicities, both men and woman. There was no one race or ethnicity that dominated another in
the meeting, it was a very warm, accepting atmosphere. I noticed right away that there was more
young adults around the age of thirty than elderly members. There was also around the same
number of males and females in attendance. The meeting began with the appointed leader asking if
there were any new members in the group, and gave them a chance to introduce themselves. I also
introduced myself at this time, and explained my role as a student. They then transitioned into
reciting the serenity prayer and having a moment of silence, allowing them to give thanks to their
higher power. The leader then had different individuals recite the week s motivational phrase and
reflect on the quote. The quote talked about forgiving yourself as an alcoholic, and the concept of
letting go of the guilt that they have over hurting themselves and the people that they love when
they were under the influence. This topic was very triggering for the members, and lead them into
a very power discussion around the different people in their lives that were directly affected by
their drinking. One woman spoke about losing the

Why Franklin Was A Thoroughbred Renaissance Man
During Benjamin Franklin s illustrious 84 years of life he achieved success that seems practically
unachievable today. Franklin found success in business, going from a teenager traveling colonial
America looking for work as a printer, to building his own printing empire. Aside from business,
Franklin also had a knack for inventing. He developed products such as the Franklin stove,
bifocals, lightning rod, and the glass harmonica. Include the fact that he was also heavily involved
in politics, is one of the founding fathers of our nation, and also one of the most intelligent men of
all time, and it is easy to see that Benjamin Franklinwas a thoroughbred renaissance man. It is one
thing to know about the story of Benjamin Franklin, but it is completely different to understand
the potential benefits of following his way of life. This essay will focus on the benefits that
Franklin s story could have on the typical college student. College is a time of immense personal
growth, and what better way to grow than with the guidance from the author of the American
dream Benjamin Franklin. After four short years, students are let out into the real world so it is
important to be prepared. That is why it would be wise for college students to follow the life of
Benjamin Franklin as presented in his autobiography. Franklin s work ethic, emphasis on personal
growth, and frugality are relevant to college students today, and provide an outline for helping
students find success.

Depression In Young Adults
Depression; for not solely a temporary change in mood or a sign of weakness. However, it is a
real medical condition with many emotional, physical, behavioral and cognitive symptoms that can
affect an individual s ability to think, feel, construct, or even; live. It can lead to a variety of
emotional and physical problems such as: Nausea, muscle weakness, insomnia, a change in appetite,
dry mouth, and irritation. Moreover, studies have shown that depression affects an estimated one in

Comparison Essay Beowulf
In beowulf there are three major battles that Beowulf participate in. The first battle is the battle
against grendel which is then followed up by the battle against Grendel s mother, and then finally
the last battle takes place against the Dragon. In all three of these battles Beowulf shows great
courage and manages to defeat all of these monsters. Although beowulfwas able to defeat these
three monsters they were different in some ways but also had some similarities. The first battle
takes place against Grendel. Grendel is a demon who descended from Cain. He is a very evil
monster who kills many people before beowulf hears about what has taken place. When he finds
out beowulf travels to the town to put an end to this monster. He waits in the mead hallfor Grendel
to strike again. At first no one believes that beowulf was strong enough but in fact he was. Unlike
when beowulf was fighting grendel s mom, beowulf puts aside his armor and sword to fight with
just his hands. Grendel proves to be no match for beowulf as he easily defeats the the monster.

The United States And The World War II
The United States, also known as the land of the free and the home of the brave. The United
States has been an icon for freedom and integrity for generations before us and is bound to have
written in various texts around the world. The United States has done its best to do the right
thing throughout the world. It believes itself to be the one to fix the issues that are happening in
the world around them as an act of kindness and justice. In the first World War, when Britain was
falling and the German troops were right on the horizon, American President at the time, chose to
involve us in a war that had originally not been our own. At the time of 1917, President Woodrow
Wilson admitted us into the campaign as a show that we would take a stand against the German
Empire. The country did the same at the year of 1941 in World War II, only after Japan had
initiated an attack on American soil. As seen from these two occurrences, America only then would
involve themselves in foreign affairs when it was necessary to do so and where they were involved
themselves. There is also the idea that America shouldn t be involved in foreign affairs as a whole,
due to its moral and economic effect upon the country. In the idea of the involvement causing
economic hassles to the country, those that think this usually lean towards the liberal standpoint of
the country. Those that are more patriotic tend to ignore the economic issues that come from United

the most interested artists of endowing the art of painting with prestige. He is the symbol of the

According to Pacheco, Velazquez s father in law, Rubens copied all of Tiziano s paintings

the Ovid s Metamorphoses tells the story of Adonis: Venus and Persephone were fascinated by his

with Aphrodite, the other with Persephone and the third where he wished. However, two thirds of
the year was spent by Adonis in the company of Aphrodite. For reasons unknown, Artemisia was

to recruit and managers will know the strengths and weakness of internal candidate. Employee
referral schemes: Employee referral is a bonus incentive scheme that encourages personal
recommendation from a current employee for candidates to fill roles. The scheme is in an indirect
way to start the initial screening for candidates as they have been vouched for and might be a
better cultural fit for the organisation. Job fairs: Job fairs are an opportunity for organisation s to

Napoleon And The Pope
NAPOLEON AND THE POPE
1.Napoleon and the Pope was written by Edward Elton Young Hales. The book was initially
published in 1962 and later there were numbers of translations to other languages. Hales is an
English catholic historian born in England. He was an inspector in the British Ministry of
Education in London in 1950s. Apart from the Napoleon and the Pope, the author has written many
books related to the Catholic Church. Those include Pio Nono, Mazzini and the secret societies,
The Catholic Church in the Modern World, Revolution and Papacy, The Emperor and the Pope,
Pope and His Revolution, Chariot of Fire. The Napoleon and the Pope is considered as a variant of
the Emperor and the Pope.
2.The book describes the story of the grate emperor Napoleon Bonaparte and the pope Pius VII in

The Gold Rush On California
The effect of the Gold Rush on the Californians. Gold in California was incidental discovered
near an American stream that would change the young creating state. All finished America,
youthful colleagues settled on the decision to go to California. People started from Europe,
Asia, and South America searching for minute wealth. The new American dream was to get rich,
and to make a fortune quickly. (Mill operator 151) In 1839, one of the wealthiest people in
California came over as an outcast from Sweden; his name was John Sutter. His inspiration of
coming to California was to build his own specific private agrarian space. In late 1847, James
Marshall and around twenty other men were sent to a stream by Sutter to manufacture a sawmill.
With a particular ultimate objective to supply enough wood required for Sutter s ranch. On
January 24, 1848 the sawmill was essentially whole when something stood out enough to be
noticed. Marshall got what he thought to be gold, and remembering that think the gold he saw
another piece. In the wake of making extraordinary compared to other discovers, Marshall and his
worker retreated to work, notwithstanding it was not a little while later that they kept finding more
gold. (Glass 45 47) Even however Marshall was sure that he had found gold, he required more
confirmation, so Marshall to back some gold to Sutter. Remembering the ultimate objective to test
the gold Sutter used a reference book that gave him hints about gold. Sutter made the

audi s style could be described as a mix of Art Nouveau...
audi s style could be described as a mix of Art Nouveau and his own unique organic style, which
was influenced by shapes and structures from the natural world. One of Gaudi s most impressive
and beautiful buildings is Casa BatllГі. GaudГ designed the building for Josep BatllГі, a wealthy
aristocrat, as an upmarket home. He had asked Gaudi to tear down the old one to reconstruct a new
one. GaudГ managed to convince BattlГі to remodel the existing building instead of tearing it
down, and between 1904 and 1906 he redesigned the facade and roof, added an extra floor and
completely remodeled the interior. This building clearly illustrated Gaudi s work. His use of

This work of Gaudi I believe is a clear example of an Artist s vision. Gaudi incorporated his
creativeness into a building produced a concrete example of his vision. To me it feels like this
building you might see in Disneyland, but here it is on a normal street of Barcelona erected amongst
other buildings. Yet it questions our imagination. The curves, the colour scheme that is used, the
use of bones, it is simply captivating! This is what Gaudi s work is about to create an impact on
its viewers. I really appreciate this work of his because he created something completely different,
something out of the ordinary.
Another one of Gaudi s famous work is the Sagrada Familia. Though it is unfinished it is still on
of the famous attractions in Barcelona. Whilst the building was actually started by Francisco de
Paula Villar, It was Antonio Gaudi who took over in 1884 by finishing the underground crypt that
Villar had begun to give Sagrada Familia a unique twist and a revolutionary design. Gaudi
incorporates his religious side into this building.
The church was designed to have a total length of 110 m, and a height of 45 m, with twelve
towers between 100 and 115 m high. The ground plan is a Gothic basilical plan in the shape of a
Latin cross, with five naves connecting with a transept that connects to three naves, apse, and

Content And Nature Of Value Creation
Christian Grönroos and Annika Ravald (2010) analyzed the scope, content and nature of value
co creation in a service logic based view of value creation, considering the customer perspective
in a supplier customer relationship. They published their findings in the Journal of Service
Management vol. 22 no. 1, 2011, pp 5 22. They emphasized to keep apart production and value
creation, as according to them they are different constructs. Production is the course of making the
resources consumers integrate in their consumption or usage procedures. Value creation is the
process of generating value in use out of such resources. They say that hence the value is not
produced; resources out of which value can be generated are produced. Due to the interactive
nature of service activities, where manufacturing and consumption are partly concurring processes,
customers involve themselves in the production process and become contributors in that process.
The character of customers as co producers of service activities was recognized already in the early
days of service marketingresearch (Eiglier and Langeard, 1976; Grönroos, 1978, 1982). As
Gummesson (1998, p. 247) declares, a service provider without consumers cannot produce anything
.
No matter customers buy goods or service activities, they consume them as a service (Grönroos,
1978, 2008; Gummesson, 1995; Vargo and Lusch, 2004, 2008.) If we see from a consumption
point of view, good and service activities both can be regarded as

I always get my vitamins. This is proof that society and western culture, believe that women
belong in the kitchen or at home doing housework. The idea of a woman doing work that
requires hard labor or strength, or better yet, doing work outside of what is believed to be her

ideal woman. In the average household, the man is believed to be the breadwinner of the family.
He becomes the dominant figure of the family. The woman becomes the submissive figure the
one who does domestic work. The conception of an ideal male by western culture portrays a man
to not do domestic work in the home. Who makes these notions? And why do we accept them as
acceptable notions of division? If a man was stay home, put an apron on, do housework and cook,

Romeo And Juliet Comparison Essay
William Shakespeare s famous Romeo and Juliet was reinvented in 1996 as Romeo + Juliet and
was directed by Baz Luhrmann. Luhrmann s interpretation has turned Shakespeare s traditional tale
of a tragic love story into a modern and urbanised 20th century version. Luhrmann s adaptation
keeps the classic story of Romeo and Juliet true. This is seen by still having the constant feud
between the Montague and Capulet family and the countless tragedies, yet Luhrmann adds a 20th
century twist by using guns instead of swords and replacing horses with cars. The main characters
remain as Romeo and Juliet, although there is a greater focus on them than their parents. The
events take place in Verona, however, it is at Verona Beach in Florida, not Italy. All of Luhrmann s

this scene. There are many close ups in this scene. The filmmaker used close up shots when
paika goes to the big whale and try to touch it. Koro, paikea s grandfather doesn t let her touch
the whale because he thinks this all happened because of her. This is how people can separate

and programs must also be recognised as having a significant impact on the learning and teaching of
both students and teachers. Programs such as Maths Pathways, Moodle, Google and Microsoft
Office 365 aid in the learning process of students across Australia, the most common being
Microsoft Office 365. These systems can be used for almost everything a student requires to have

politics. The New International Webster s Dictionary of the English Language defines politics as
the science of government , and sports as a particular game or physical activity pursued for

Study of the Influence of Teacher Effectiveness
CHAPTER ONE
1.1Background to the study
As a teacher in the secondary school system in Nigeria for many years, experience has shown that,
there are two categories of teachers the good or effective teachers, and the bad or ineffective
teachers observable from among teachers in the school system.
The effective teachers are perceived to be fully equipped naturally and professionally to lead their
students to success in competitive standardized tests, as well as inculcate in them, values that
would make them exhibit behaviours that are generally desirable and acceptable.
On the other hand, the ineffective teachers do not care about the success of their students in
examinations, and, in some cases, students who pass through such teachers, ... Show more content

This behaviour has the tendency of reducing productivity and efficiency on the part of the teachers.
These ill behaved teachers as they may be described may tend to produce their types from among
the students, since children tend to emulate adults they see as their models. In the fore going
descriptions of teachers in the school system, it is evident that, there exists two categories of
teachers, but what attributes or characteristics define the effective and ineffective teachers?
Highet (1977), in identifying the kinds of teachers, said that, there are good or effective teachers,
and bad or ineffective teachers, and amateur teachers who are neither good enough nor too bad in
teaching activities. In this study, the researcher categorized teachers into two, because whatever
that is not good, in definitely, bad. Denigrating the bad teachers, Highet (1977), said that bad
teaching wastes a great deal of effort, and spoils many lives which might have been full of energy
and happiness. Giving support for the existence of effective and ineffective teachers in the school
system, Vernon cited in Gammage (1971), said that most of those in the teaching profession who
are well adjusted are somewhat extroverted, but many other personality types do excellent work and
that there are certainly, large number of misfits. The researcher, through a wide range of
consultation in various literatures, has firmly established the

Theory Of Planned Behavior Theory Paper
Another relevant theory in this area is the theory of planned behavior (TPB), developed by Ajzen
and Fishbein (1980). TPB states that intention is the proximal determinant of behavior and is
determined by three constructs: attitude (viewed as a positive or negative evaluation towards
performing a behavior); subjective norm (which is the perception of the beliefs of important
others); perceived behavioral control (which describes one s perception of the amount of control
they have in performing the behavior) (France, France, Himawan, 2007; Giles, McClenahan,
Cairns, Mallet, 2004). It is of note that while perceived behavioral control has often been equated
with Bandura s concept of self efficacy many have argued that the constructs are not equal, since
self efficacy is more concerned with cognitive perceptions of control based on internal control
factors (Ajzen, 1991; Armitage Conner, 2001; Giles Cairns, 1995).... Show more content on

The State Of The Art Nature Inspired Metaheuristic Algorithms
The paper reviews the state of the art nature inspired metaheuristic algorithms in optimization,
including the Firefly algorithm, PSO algorithms and ABC algorithm. By implementing them in
Matlab, we will use worked examples to show how each algorithm works. Firefly algorithm is an
evolutionary optimization algorithm, and is inspired by the flashing behavior of special flies called
fireflies in nature. There are some noisy non linear mathematical optimizationproblems that can be
effectively solved by Metaheuristic Algorithms. Firefly algorithm is one of the new metaheuristic
algorithms for these optimization problems. The algorithm is inspired by the flashing behavior of
fireflies. Firefly Algorithm (FA) is a recent nature inspired optimization algorithm, which simulates
the flash pattern and characteristics of fireflies. It is a powerful swarm intelligence algorithm
inspired by the flashing phenomenon of the fireflies. The optimization results of both PSO and
Firefly are analyzed from the results obtained in Matlab and the results are used to compare both the
algorithms.

many other railroads that caused significance. Through the 1850 s and 1860 s alone over 50,000

they were sure to leave impact on many other industries. One of the most important changes that the

Hardware Controls, Proper Risk Assessment, And Management...
3. There are many components including each of the general controls, applications controls, proper
risk assessment, and management policies. Each of the previously mentions plays a key roles in
the organizational framework but must be utilized in the proper manner to work reliably and
effectively.
General Controls include software, hardware, computer operations controls data security,
implementation, administrative controls and basically dictate all aspects of the organizations
information technology infrastructure. Software controls monitor systems and prevent access
from authorized users. Hardware controls make sure that the actual hardware is safe and is
always checking to make sure that the equipment doesn t malfunction. This also covers the backup
systems. Computer operations controls keep the data in check by correctly storing it. Data
security does just as it suggests keep the data safe in whatever form so that it is not destroyed or
altered. Implementation is basically the systems checker and makes sure that at each point the
controls are working. Lastly administrative controls are used to create rules and procedures that
need to be carried out in order to keep the system running in proper order.
Application Controls are more specific and are often more unique to each organization and make
sure that the accurate data is processed for the organization. These controls are input, processing,

Influences On Musical Notation In The Middle Ages
A brief essay on two influences on musical notation in the middle ages
Modern musical notation as we know it can be directly credited to the Catholic Church. The
Catholic church being a primary influence in Western history, the church had many resources and
was source of education. While there are a variety of rudimentary music notations pre 9th century
the foundation of music notation as we know it is due to an Italian Benedictine monk, Guido de
Azzero, who invented solfege, a vocal scale we know as do, re, mi, fa, so, la, ti, do but was
introduced as ut, re, mi, fa, sol, la. This scale was a huge breakthrough for vocalists that were
struggling to learn new chants in the late 900 s but has had a lasting effect as this is the same
scale vocalists use today. Along with this he introduced the four line staff, a fifth would be added
as music became more complex. Now vocalists could read the pitch, and learning new pieces of
chant became a much easier task. But how long should those notes be held? We have the pitch and
scale, but when does the vocalist move on to the next note without guessing or being prompted? ...

note duration which is that a notes shape could indicate its length. Franco of Cologne introduced
the longa, brevis, and the semibrevis, the semibreve becoming the modern whole note. With this
composers could write music with rhythmic variety. Thus we are introduced to the foundation of
mensural notation, that would become the modern bar notation. Although there are no known
surviving pieces of music by Franco of Cologne, a form of motet was named after him, the

The Rise Of The Melodrama
The Rise of the Melodrama in the 19th Century
In the nineteenth century, many movements arose in the field of theatre both in the United States
and in Europe. Some of the movements that took place in the west together with the melodrama
includes the plays o naturalism, Romanticism, well made plays of scribes and Sardou, Wilde s
drawing room comedies, symbolism and the farces of Feydeau as depicted in the late works of
Henrik Ibsen. Melodrama is a collective name to refer to open group of films that the majority of
reviewers refers to as romance, thrillers, and drama. The melodrama as a source of entertainment is
believed to have spread rapidly in the nineteenth century due to the growth of industrial revolution
and urban development (McHugh 41). It is important to note that this genre is multi disciplinary in
its nature as it accepts elements from another category of films, hence the open name category.
Therefore, melodrama is one of the widely most appreciated and has attracted the interest of many
reviewers since the nineteenth century, hence the rapid rise.
The movies under this category have attracted the attention of many reviewers because of some
reasons. The films are widely appreciated because of their wider exposition of culture as well as
sophisticated and rich subject matter. The show of culture and emotional expression that the movie
contains has drastically changed the description of the category from action films to relationship
film. Additionally, the movies

The Robert E. Lee Statue Should Be Removed
Why the Robert E. Lee Statue Should Be Removed Imagine your children living in a world full of
hatred, prejudice, and discrimination from their brothers and sisters of America. The ultimate
reality where a minority man or woman can t cross the street without feeling vulnerable or
concerned of an issue occurring because of who they are. I am telling you this because if we let
the Robert E. Leestatue remain standing, our world will become a dystopia of animosity and
bigotry with the support of White Supremacists and Neo Nazis. In the late 1800 s, President
Lincoln wanted to abolish slavery all throughout the United States, however, the South believed that
it was unconstitutional to eradicate slavery. Due to the disagreement about slavery between the
Union and the Confederates, they began the American Civil Warand endured the four years of
combat casualties on both sides, until the Union won and slavery was completely abolished.
Subsequently, many statues emerged in southern states honoring Confederate soldiers and leaders
that fought against the Union in the Civil War, such as the Robert E. Lee monument. With rich
history, like ours, we can see the evolution in our society and learn from our racial, degrading, and
dishonorable actions that has affected one to several millions of Americans. Although the Robert E.
Lee statue is a form of history, the statues need to be removed from the public property because of
the true representation behind the monument and the pain in remembering our infamous racial past.
To receive a statue in your name and have it placed in an area meant for recognition is an honor,
this is given for the highest respect and privilege to those who impacted the society positively and
fought for a change. The social and racial equality in America has progressed since the Civil War
and the space for bigotry and acrimony for other ethnicities is limited, the society now embraces a
broader meaning of diversity and equivalence with gender, sexuality, and ethnicity. In spite of that, a
man who believed and fought for the entitlement of slaves was honored with a statue of his own,
infamously named the Robert E. Lee statue. How can we let a representation of racial inequality
and discrimination

Presidential Campaign Communication Analysis
Craig Allen Smith s 2015 update of Presidential Campaign Communication details every aspect of
a Presidential campaign from start to finish. Taking into account the trialogue between
campaigners, reporters, and citizens, the roles each of them play differ, but come down to the
citizen. The citizen is exposed to campaign ads, candidate appearances while they try and weed
through the information in order to make a decision on their political beliefs. Campaigners have a
different agenda because they most surface, gain their parties nomination, bring the party together
of the primary season, and then go on to win the electoral college with 270 votes or more. The
third and final part of this trialogue are the reporters, which can be on any platform that his an

It is also important to understand that only three in four Americans that are registered to vote and,
out of them, only two thirds go out and vote. It is all about how the citizen decides how to
participate in the election after being presented with all the information of Campaigners. With the
advent of new technology, our new social media overtakes other, older forms of technology.
Citizens surround themselves with like minded people on these different platforms and are exposed
to the views of their families and friends, who usually hold the same ideals in high esteem. When
there is discourse, which most citizens try to avoid, they remove themselves from the contentious
situation. System 1 thinking affects more Citizens as it is quick and targets people who already
have a specific belief system that allows them to subconsciously take in stimuli. This is in contrast
to System 2 thinking, which requires more thinking and effort in order to analyze the

TOK Script
Slide 1
Good Morning! Today I m going to focus on Intuition, and as you may already have guessed, the
Brexit. *
Slide 2 RLS
Before diving straight into things, here is a very brief recap of the Brexit, thus far. * On Thursday
23rd June 2016, the Referendum on the United Kingdom s membership of the European Union,
otherwise known as the Brexit vote, was staged for a third time with historic consequences. Where
the majority of the votes from the participating population supported the bid to leave the European
Union, 48.1 to 51.9%. The result leaving the British economy in pieces, major politicians forced to
resign, including those that supported the bit to Leave , along with the then Prime Minister David
Cameron and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this case, Intuition was key in these campaigns so that people would side with their arguments.
The knowledge question also has subsidiary links to History and Reason which will be investigated
later on.*
Slide 4 KC Personal Ex.
Development 1 of the knowledge question will focus on my personal perspective and examples that
were gathered, particularly focusing on Ethics. My personal knowledge claim in response to the
knowledge question * is that I believe that the value of ethical arguments is more significant in
comparison to other claims that are mainly based on intuition, in the context of supported
knowledge without significant evidence, which was a main concept that was outlined when
analysing the Brexit vote. *
A personal example of where is may be evident is in my IB Psychology Subject, A psychology
experiment was carried out where 2 (scripted) presenters gave 2 separate arguments on a particular
topic to 2 groups of participants. The first presenter focused on the numerous perspectives and
repercussions that the topic would create and touch on and what the situation would do to those
different people (Much like a TOK presentation), as well as touching on the ethics of the topic. The
second speaker focused on their personal perspective and their thoughts, ignoring any other
perspectives and only presuming outcomes, they also ignored any and all ethical viewpoints.
The first group of participants were told by the researchers that the

Richard Wagner s Argumentative Essay
An ongoing dilemma that people face when it comes to music is being able to separate the
person from the music that they compose. And an even bigger dilemma is whether we should
separate a person s personal actions and/or morals from their music? It is my opinion that we
should be able to separate a person s actions, beliefs, and/or morals from their musicand throughout
this essay I am going to provide you with evidence that supports this claim using Richard Wagneras
the primary example. Wagner died in 1883 and Adolf Hitler heard Richard Wagner s work for the
first time in 1901. From that moment on Hitler described about how captivated he was by Wagner
s music (Kerbjuweit). Not only was Hitler, like the rest of the world, captivated by... Show more

Though Wagner s article is morally wrong, Wagner and his music cannot be blamed for the sole
influence on Hitler and his anti Semitic views. Scholars say that because Hitler was so captivated
by Wagner s music it led to him reading his article Judaism and Music which ultimately lead to
Hitler s reign. However, Hitler wasn t the only person to be completely captivated by his music.
Even though Wagner had disrespectful intentions when composing music, regarding Jewish people,
I do not believe that his intentions matter when it comes to the music itself. Not everyone
understands the technique that is involved in writing music and not everyone is able to articulate
what they hear in the piece because they do not have the musical training to explain. Therefore, it is
crazy to believe that solely Wagner s intentions when writing a piece should be taken into
consideration. Because not everyone can construct into musical terms what they hear, they create
their own analogies and conclusions on what the music is about, based on their own personal
experience. An audience may interpret a piece in a completely different way than the artist
intended. With that thought in mind it can also be said that it is not the job of the audience to
understand the artist. Even if the audience did understand the artist, they wouldn t be able to
understand

Art And Its Effect On Society
There are about a million different colors in the world. There are light colors and dark colors and
colors in between. We can use colors to express ourselves and use them to express our moods.
People are famous because of art and people have been arrested for art too. People can dedicate art
to other people and people can draw themselves too. Million and millions of colors are in the world
but only few are known. More colors are discovered ever day by people who experiment with
colors. Making different shades of every color. For example, if you mix blue and yellow you get
green. If you mix different colors you will get new better colors. Colors are everywhere even if we
don t want them to be.
Colors have lots of meanings. We use many of the same colors but we mix them with other
colors and we get the different shades of these colors. For example, while red is the color most
associated with love, it also the color most frequently associated with hatred, anger, aggression,
and war. People who are angry are said to see red. Red is the color most commonly associated
with passion and heat. Blue is the color between violet and green on the optical spectrum of
visible light. Human eyes perceive blue when observing light with a wavelength between 450 and
495 nanometers, which is between 45 and 49.5 Angstroms. Green is the color between blue and
yellow on the spectrum of visible light. It is evoked by light with a predominant wavelength of

Who Is Sir Isaac Newton My Hero
The person I consider a hero is Sir Isaac Newton, because he has a very significant impact on

calculus. He is my hero because I think that if one one if not most of the most influential physicist

its revenue. It will enable improve its inventory management system because rapidly growing
market may make it difficult for the current old IT system to maintain the same level of efficiency.
Intangible analysis:
Cost: Zara s competitive advantage of efficient, fast and highly responsive supply chain may be at
risk due to fast changing complexity of market environment. Loss of information due to older
system may impact its revenue. Making phone calls to other store managers for checking
inventories, is less productive and time consuming. Small screen of the PDAs make it difficult for
the employees in the stores to use them for ordering purpose and are vulnerable to making errors.
Up gradation of the current system require training of the employees which may take several days
or months. There should be positive inertia among the employees to accept the up gradation of the
current system. This much required inertia is lacking currently which may a threat to the success of
the change. The store employees are comfortable with using the current system. The acceptance of

The Voices Against War By Thomas Hardy
The Voices Against Wars of Many The voicing of opinions against war was not made common
until around the eighteen hundreds. War was always considered an opportunity for glory and a
chance to prove one s self to his or her fellow soldier and his or her country. However, with the
advancement in technological warfare and physical battle becoming more gruesome, many felt
the need to speak out against the activity of war. Thomas Hardy voices his opinion on the second
Boer War through poetry. The second Boer War witnessed some of the beginnings of more
accurate cannons and propelled explosives, giving South Africa a strong resistance to Great
Britain. Wilfred Owen witnessed first hand of the horrors of World War I
with a price of his life. He
wrote poetry vividly describing his treacherous experience on the battlefield. Also Randall
Jarrell, served in World War II and used his experience to write an anti war poem with the
imagery of his experience. All of these anti war poems most be analyzed properly to fully
understand how their authors present their message. The conventions used by Hardy, Owen and
Jarrell in their respective anti war poems are the essence of their messages against the activity of
war, and the analysis of the anti war theme.
First, Thomas Hardy uses both imagery and a switch from first to second person to create an anti
war theme in The Man He Killed. By beginning with the imagery of a peaceful and humble setting,

  • 2. Social And Cultural Events In The 20th And 21st Century Education has been affected greatly by social and cultural events of the 20th and 21st centuries. Because education follows the moves of society, the need for new skills in life and in the workplace change and students can be career and college ready. This, however, has not always been the case. The first of two main cultural and social events focused on are the events that led up to the Brown vs. the Board of EducationSupreme Court case, which resulted in the desegregation of schools. The second are the effects that the Great Recession had on the education system. In the 1940s the Civil Rights Movement began gaining strength and the country began moving slowly to desegregation. In 1947, in the face of much opposition, Jackie Robinson became the first African Americanbaseball player. When he traveled to the south he was denied access into hotels, restaurants, and other venues because of this race. Because Robinson was in the army the armed forces became desegregated in 1948 and eventually led to the elimination of segregated schools (Schwartz, 2003). During this era African American students were in separate but equal schools although many black schools suffered from poor facilities and a lack of funding and other amenities that were provided at white schools. Black students were often bussed great distances to attend school. In 1952, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) lawyers represented the case Brown vs. the Board of education. This case dealt with the right of a black child to attend an all white school close to her home instead of being bussed across town to the all black school. Initially, the ruling was in favor of the Board of Education, but the adverse effects of separate but equal schooling on the black community were clearly shown (Schwartz, 2003). African Americans were also held back by not having the right to vote. A literacy exam was required to be passed in order to vote. Because of their schooling restrictions, many African Americans were illiterate, which denied them of the right to vote. A workshop for the United Nations drew several community members and teachers from the south (Horton, Freire, 1990). One member who attended ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Observation Paper On The Empire State Building Tihun Lowe ARC 2701 Observation Paper (Empire State Building) The Empire State Building is a skyscraper located in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. Its construction began on March 17, 1930, and was completed on April 11, 1931. John Jacob Raskob, the creator of General Motors, wanted a building that would have been taller than Walter Chrysler s building. He went to William Lamb, someone who was a partner at the architectural firm of Shreve, Lamb, and Harmon and he explains to him his dream of a skyscraper that would exceed the Chrysler Building. When the Empire State Building was being made, there were only two criteria that were needed to be followed during the construction: the first one was that it must resemble a pencil. The second criteria were that it must soar higher than any other structure in the world. Although the building had many setbacks during the construction of it the building ended up finishing 45 days ahead of schedule and on top of that the building ended up being $5 million dollars under budget. The Empire State Building was then viewed as a new symbol of what felt like a New America. During the 1920s and the 1930s, the United States was being split from an old style of rural traditions and eventually was beginning to make modern urban traditions. When the Empire State Building was being built, it began to fuel the power and wealth of the clients who were children of immigrants, this then served as a legitimacy status began to represent the face of the ... The Bubonic Plague, otherwise known as the Black Death, was a huge epidemic in the mid 1300s. It killed off about 20 million Europeans within 1348 and 1351and was thought to originate from China and move westwards through means of infected fleas and rats through shipping and trade (Document 1). The plague was recorded in the spring of 1348 in Messina, Italy and the summer that followed, in England. The last region affected by the disease was the Baltic region. Symptoms that came along with the plague were buboes, large swellings on the lymph nodes, groin and armpit. • 7. Reflection Project Reflection Wow, it has to be said that it is unbelievable that this is already the fourth week in this course. Time has gone by so quick, but so much has also been learned in this short time. Although I will sound like a broken record, I try to pride myself on not only taking a challenge and preserving through it, but also incorporating new things learned. At the time, things might seem difficult and habits hard to replace, but I have truly grown to have a new found appreciation to what this course has taught me. I might not utilize every concept in each thing that I do, but I will definitely have a different perspective on how something can be done. Week four really tied the previous weeks together and it became clearer the purpose for going through this process, I can also have a new appreciation of how this process would be beneficial in a project that is much larger and detailed. With that being said, although this project is not as in depth as I am sure something such as, a dissertation might be I can see the benefit of even just the simple thingssuch as making something too wordy and also still some challenges that seem to haunt me like just the right thesis statement. New perspectives for me this week was really that of the simple process of attempting not to be so wordy. Clearly, I have not perfected this process and I have a lot to practice, but the fact that it was brought to light was a great beginning. I know that I have a tendency to be too wordy, I think that part of this is due to the fact that for one I overthink, but also because we learn to think outside the box and utilize words that sound more collegiate or intellectual (I guess). I think I get so bogged down in terminology sometimes that I need to take a step back and acknowledge that it is okay to use the word college for example, instead of higher education . I loved the examples that our text book gave about how to change a phrase such as, saying an actual color followed by the explanation that it is a color (Cole Law, 2013). Also the passive and active tones that our writing can take. These are honestly some new perspectives that I will try to retain and work on. Then of course is the challenge, my thesis statement. I just cannot seem ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Never-Ending Cycle In George Orwell s Animal Farm The Never Ending Cycle Sara Moehring Like animals to the slaughter. This phrase has been used since biblical times, describing an unconcerned manner unaware of an impending catastrophe. Perhaps there is some relation to George Orwell s Animal Farm? Was this intentional? In this dark fairy tale, George Orwell describes a mid 20th century farm in England that has been taken over by its overworked, mistreated animals. The humans are replaced by pigs, who eventually end the cycle worse than it began. The animals chased out a tyrant, just so they could be repressed by a power just as terrible. The worst thing was, that they couldn t fight back. They lacked the education and knowledge required to defend their basic rights. Due to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The people blindly followed the new order, communism, because they thought it would lead to a world where everyone was equal. This happens in Animal Farm, When Old Major s vision, later called Animalism, was put into practice, the pigs in charge took over and became selfish and violent, twisting the philosophy until it barely contained an echo of the original intent. The same thing happened with communism, as Stalin left much of the country penniless and helpless, and put people to death if they showed the slightest resistance to his regime. The pigs come into power after revealing they have been teaching themselves to read and write from an old spelling book which had belonged to Mr. Jones children, and which had been thrown upon the rubbish heap. This created a divide in intelligence between the other animals and pigs, which the animals believed they could not cross. Several of them would have protested if they could find the right arguments. In the UK as in 40 U.S. states there is a tax on tampons and other menstruation related products, including sanitary napkins and cups, justified under the general sales tax. Of the 10 states that do not tax feminine care products, five of those states have no sales tax. Meaning just five states have decided to abolish the sales tax on feminine care products. • 10. Analysis Of Bad Day By Daniel Poster Bad Day by Daniel Poster has been a song that has influenced my life since I can remember. It is really the first song that i remember hearing from my child hood. Every time it came on the radio me and my mom blasted it. The song goes through the motion in a third person narrative of someone having a bad day. I remembered during my childhood when I was having a bad day I would blast this song and it would make me in a better mood. It really begin the foundation of music for me. This song spoke volumes to me and it would instantly change my mood when I heard it. Now when I hear it I instantly am drawn to memories of me and my mother blasting it. It takes me back to my child hood in a way. I remember my favorite lines from the song was, You re taking one down. You sing a sad song just to turn it around. Its ironic, but sometimes listening to sad music will brighten my mood. I related a lot with that verse and the rest of the song. This is why Bad Day by Daniel Poster is part of my attention collection project. Scooby Doo is another piece of my attention project. Growing up I didn t really like watching a lot of television, but I do remember loving the show Scooby Doo. I was interested in always trying to figure out the mystery of who was the person behind all the mischief. I remember when I was sick I would watch Scooby Doo. This epic uses many different types of literary archetypes from the Anglo Saxon literature. Beowulf is about a young prince making a journey to Denmark to help Hrothgar, the king of the Danes. The author of the English epic Beowulf, shows how Grendel is such an outcast, Beowulf s battles between good and evil, and how heroic he was throughout his life. Grendel is an outcast in the land of the Danes, which prompts his attacks on Herot Hall. Grendel, a powerful monster (Beowulf l. 1), was the biggest outcast in the land of the Danes. He felt left out because the warriors would always party and have a good time at Herot Hall without him. Herot Hall was a building built by Hrothgar for his warriors to have a relaxing place to unwind after a long day of work. Grendel wanted to have a good time like the warriors did at the hall, but could not because the warriors would try to kill him. He got fed up with being the outcast of the town and decided that once night fell, he would terrorize Herot Hall. As he approached the doors of the hall his thoughts became as quick as his greed or claws (Beowulf l. 35). He opens the door snatching thirty warriors in his hands as they sleep instantly killing them. As he takes them back to his lair the blood from their bodies leave a trail behind him. There was no one race or ethnicity that dominated another in the meeting, it was a very warm, accepting atmosphere. I noticed right away that there was more young adults around the age of thirty than elderly members. There was also around the same number of males and females in attendance. The meeting began with the appointed leader asking if there were any new members in the group, and gave them a chance to introduce themselves. I also introduced myself at this time, and explained my role as a student. They then transitioned into reciting the serenity prayer and having a moment of silence, allowing them to give thanks to their higher power. The leader then had different individuals recite the week s motivational phrase and reflect on the quote. The quote talked about forgiving yourself as an alcoholic, and the concept of letting go of the guilt that they have over hurting themselves and the people that they love when they were under the influence. This topic was very triggering for the members, and lead them into a very power discussion around the different people in their lives that were directly affected by their drinking. • 25. Content And Nature Of Value Creation Christian GrГ¶nroos and Annika Ravald (2010) analyzed the scope, content and nature of value co creation in a service logic based view of value creation, considering the customer perspective in a supplier customer relationship. They published their findings in the Journal of Service Management vol. 22 no. 1, 2011, pp 5 22. They emphasized to keep apart production and value creation, as according to them they are different constructs. Production is the course of making the resources consumers integrate in their consumption or usage procedures. Value creation is the process of generating value in use out of such resources. They say that hence the value is not produced; resources out of which value can be generated are produced. Due to the interactive nature of service activities, where manufacturing and consumption are partly concurring processes, customers involve themselves in the production process and become contributors in that process. The character of customers as co producers of service activities was recognized already in the early days of service marketingresearch (Eiglier and Langeard, 1976; GrГ¶nroos, 1978, 1982). As Gummesson (1998, p. 247) declares, a service provider without consumers cannot produce anything . No matter customers buy goods or service activities, they consume them as a service (GrГ¶nroos, 1978, 2008; Gummesson, 1995; Vargo and Lusch, 2004, 2008.) They could mine a lot gold and copper. This would also affect nature. I think it would be a bad idea to start mining there. My reasons why are listed below. One argument for the Pebble mine is that it would make a lot of new jobs, but the people in that area don t need any more jobs. They earn their money by fishing wild red salmon, and in that region they produce half the world s wild red salmon. In 2016 they earned $153.2 million with red salmon. • 32. Essay about Politics and the Modern Olympics At first thought, it may be difficult to understand any possible connection between sports and politics. The New International Webster s Dictionary of the English Language defines politics as the science of government , and sports as a particular game or physical activity pursued for diversion . On the surface the two concepts have very little in common, yet their connection can be traced to antiquity and the first organized sporting events. The first Olympic gamestook place in Greece in the ninth century, b.c.e. to worship the gods, win personal glory, and, most importantly, unite the Greek city states. • 33. Study of the Influence of Teacher Effectiveness CHAPTER ONE 1.1Background to the study As a teacher in the secondary school system in Nigeria for many years, experience has shown that, there are two categories of teachers the good or effective teachers, and the bad or ineffective teachers observable from among teachers in the school system. The effective teachers are perceived to be fully equipped naturally and professionally to lead their students to success in competitive standardized tests, as well as inculcate in them, values that would make them exhibit behaviours that are generally desirable and acceptable. On the other hand, the ineffective teachers do not care about the success of their students in examinations, and, in some cases, students who pass through such teachers, ... These ill behaved teachers as they may be described may tend to produce their types from among the students, since children tend to emulate adults they see as their models. In the fore going descriptions of teachers in the school system, it is evident that, there exists two categories of teachers, but what attributes or characteristics define the effective and ineffective teachers? Highet (1977), in identifying the kinds of teachers, said that, there are good or effective teachers, and bad or ineffective teachers, and amateur teachers who are neither good enough nor too bad in teaching activities. In this study, the researcher categorized teachers into two, because whatever that is not good, in definitely, bad. Denigrating the bad teachers, Highet (1977), said that bad teaching wastes a great deal of effort, and spoils many lives which might have been full of energy and happiness. Giving support for the existence of effective and ineffective teachers in the school system, Vernon cited in Gammage (1971), said that most of those in the teaching profession who are well adjusted are somewhat extroverted, but many other personality types do excellent work and that there are certainly, large number of misfits. • 34. Theory Of Planned Behavior Theory Paper Another relevant theory in this area is the theory of planned behavior (TPB), developed by Ajzen and Fishbein (1980). TPB states that intention is the proximal determinant of behavior and is determined by three constructs: attitude (viewed as a positive or negative evaluation towards performing a behavior); subjective norm (which is the perception of the beliefs of important others); perceived behavioral control (which describes one s perception of the amount of control they have in performing the behavior) (France, France, Himawan, 2007; Giles, McClenahan, Cairns, Mallet, 2004). It is of note that while perceived behavioral control has often been equated with Bandura s concept of self efficacy many have argued that the constructs are not equal, since self efficacy is more concerned with cognitive perceptions of control based on internal control factors (Ajzen, 1991; Armitage Conner, 2001; Giles Cairns, 1995).... Each of the previously mentions plays a key roles in the organizational framework but must be utilized in the proper manner to work reliably and effectively. General Controls include software, hardware, computer operations controls data security, implementation, administrative controls and basically dictate all aspects of the organizations information technology infrastructure. Software controls monitor systems and prevent access from authorized users. Hardware controls make sure that the actual hardware is safe and is always checking to make sure that the equipment doesn t malfunction. This also covers the backup systems. Computer operations controls keep the data in check by correctly storing it. Data security does just as it suggests keep the data safe in whatever form so that it is not destroyed or altered. Implementation is basically the systems checker and makes sure that at each point the controls are working. Lastly administrative controls are used to create rules and procedures that need to be carried out in order to keep the system running in proper order. Influences On Musical Notation In The Middle Ages A brief essay on two influences on musical notation in the middle ages Modern musical notation as we know it can be directly credited to the Catholic Church. The Catholic church being a primary influence in Western history, the church had many resources and was source of education. While there are a variety of rudimentary music notations pre 9th century the foundation of music notation as we know it is due to an Italian Benedictine monk, Guido de Azzero, who invented solfege, a vocal scale we know as do, re, mi, fa, so, la, ti, do but was introduced as ut, re, mi, fa, sol, la. This scale was a huge breakthrough for vocalists that were struggling to learn new chants in the late 900 s but has had a lasting effect as this is the same scale vocalists use today. Along with this he introduced the four line staff, a fifth would be added as music became more complex. Now vocalists could read the pitch, and learning new pieces of chant became a much easier task. But how long should those notes be held? We have the pitch and scale, but when does the vocalist move on to the next note without guessing or being prompted? ... I am telling you this because if we let the Robert E. Leestatue remain standing, our world will become a dystopia of animosity and bigotry with the support of White Supremacists and Neo Nazis. In the late 1800 s, President Lincoln wanted to abolish slavery all throughout the United States, however, the South believed that it was unconstitutional to eradicate slavery. Due to the disagreement about slavery between the Union and the Confederates, they began the American Civil Warand endured the four years of combat casualties on both sides, until the Union won and slavery was completely abolished. Subsequently, many statues emerged in southern states honoring Confederate soldiers and leaders that fought against the Union in the Civil War, such as the Robert E. Lee monument. With rich history, like ours, we can see the evolution in our society and learn from our racial, degrading, and dishonorable actions that has affected one to several millions of Americans. Although the Robert E. Lee statue is a form of history, the statues need to be removed from the public property because of the true representation behind the monument and the pain in remembering our infamous racial past. To receive a statue in your name and have it placed in an area meant for recognition is an honor, this is given for the highest respect and privilege to those who impacted the society positively and fought for a change. The social and racial equality in America has progressed since the Civil War and the space for bigotry and acrimony for other ethnicities is limited, the society now embraces a broader meaning of diversity and equivalence with gender, sexuality, and ethnicity.
