Winning your company over to modern product thinking (ProductCamp Boston 2016)ProductCamp Boston
Let's face it, there is the world of executive-driven product prioritization, specifications, roadmaps in stone and requirements documentation. Then there's the right way to build products in this incredibly fast-paced world, where evidence-based decision-making is king, the user is at the center and your small team delivers working features in days instead of months. Which world would you like to spend more time in? In this session I'll reveal what I've learned the hard way helping bring Agile, Lean Startup and Design Thinking first to NPR, and since then to dozens of companies, helping organizations understand and then embrace the power and fun of modern product thinking. Expect to take away practical, proven ideas on how to get your company to try new product development methods and buy into thinking in new ways and ultimately enabling change.

Intrapreneurs must manage the tension between consistency needed for scale in established companies and the change required for innovation. They respect the 90% of operations focused on efficiency while living in the 10% focused on innovation and new ideas. Intrapreneurs are not entrepreneurs, as they make the new a reality on the inside of an organization designed for sameness. To succeed, intrapreneurs must gain allies across the company, help others, think long-term, bend rules carefully, and display humble confidence.
Millennial managers and executives are confronted with an aging workforce that is well established in a performance status quo. New technologies are driving change in the workplace and many employees from the aging workforce are putting in time until they retire. What should the millennial manager/executive do to be effective and maintain and enhance productivity and efficiencies? The majority of the employees are older than the millennial managers and executives. There are always new projects that have to be completed and tasks delegated to others within the organization, and many times employees do not have a sense of urgency, or don't really listen to the project deliverables until the X or boomer director steps in and leads the project. Millennials have been placed in a precarious position since technology has thrust them into executive management roles. In the technologically driven workplace world, this is an increasing problem as younger yet experienced millennial managers come on to the scene. Millennial executives are not being disrespectful to anyone, but it's hard when they are trying to get the job done and no one will listen!
This document discusses entrepreneurial leadership. It defines entrepreneurship as turning an idea into a profitable business by taking on responsibility and risk. Leadership is defined as leading by example, creating synergies within a team, and striving for betterment. The document argues that entrepreneurship is about more than just making money - it is about creating opportunities for the present and future. Entrepreneurial leadership involves identifying and utilizing people's potential, taking everyone together on the journey from ordinary to extraordinary, and making continuous improvements through an integrated approach. This new approach provides a dimension that changes conventional business models and helps organizations develop competitive mindsets to face future challenges.

The Contemporary Project Manager in the Digital AgeEdwin Dando
1) Traditional project management views are flawed as they assume stakeholders know what they want, little will change, and work can be easily decomposed and estimated.
2) The digital age requires more adaptive approaches like agile that accept change and focus on delivering value incrementally through collaboration rather than rigid plans.
3) To succeed in this environment, project managers must shift from controlling work to coaching self-organizing teams and facilitating flow-based delivery over fixed budgets and deadlines.

The document discusses the concept of productivity and defines it as doing the right tasks to achieve goals rather than just keeping busy or getting everything done. It states that effectiveness, or doing the right tasks, is more important than efficiency alone. A hypothetical example is given of cleaning one's office efficiently but not effectively if the goal was to send a proposal to a client. The document concludes by advertising a personal productivity training module that helps people utilize tools to be highly productive and has measurable returns of up to 500%.

This document discusses how to engage the current generation of employees. It notes that most workforces are disengaged, costing companies millions per year. To engage employees, companies should pledge to be purpose-driven by defining the company and individual purposes and constantly communicating them. Companies should also pledge to be performance-oriented by defining and measuring expectations, and developing employees. Finally, companies should pledge to be principles-led by defining and demonstrating core values. The document emphasizes that actual change, new methods, and innovative tools are needed to create an engaged workforce.
The one thing that will generate higher profits, strengthen employee engagement, and improve customer retention is having a strong sense of purpose. Having clarity around why a business exists beyond just making money is important. Steve Jobs discussed how Apple's purpose is to empower people who are passionate about changing the world. Core values that a business stands for also help with culture and differentiation. Doing good through a business by considering all stakeholders can benefit client acquisition, employee engagement, awards and publicity, partnerships, and profits. Exploring how work and higher purpose can merge is an important frontier.

Individuals can also unleash their intrapreneurial spirit through volunteering, taking calculated risks, and committing to ambitious goals.
Effect of Employee Satisfaction on Intrapreneurship: An Analysis from Service...Muhammad Arslan
This paper seeks to investigate the relationship between employee satisfaction and intrapreneurship in the service
industry of Pakistan. In the competitive global environment, innovativeness in the products and services along
with new technology advancements is key for the success of firms. In existing firms, the new idea generation and
new business expansions in existing markets is a very crucial element. For achieving this objective,
organizations rely upon their employees because the intrapreneurs are employees of the firm. Employee plays an
important role in entrepreneurial activities. For getting the best out of the employees employee satisfaction with
the job is a crucial element which may depend on several factors. Organizational characteristics ,values and
employee related factors can lead an organization toward internal advancements like technology development,
generation of ideas or self-renewal process and innovativeness in products/services and new business expansions
that all will ultimately lead organization toward the more productivity and firm growth and business
development. Survey based study has been done and the data has been collected through a survey Questionnaire.
Sample of the study is 150 employees from the service sector of Pakistan. To check the relationship between the
variables the multiple response method has been used. With the help of statistical software SPSS cross tabs
tables has been generated. The findings of study reveal that role clarity and role conflict among the employees or
the relationship between the employees along with remuneration, general satisfaction with the work and job
stability of the employee decide about the employee satisfaction. Employee satisfaction has a positive
relationship with the intrapreneurship.

Intercellular junctions are specialized structures that allow adhesion and communication between cells in multicellular organisms. There are three main types: gap junctions, tight junctions, and anchoring junctions. Gap junctions consist of channels that connect adjacent cells and allow for signal transfer. Tight junctions form a continuous belt around cells and prevent fluid leakage between epithelial layers. Anchoring junctions include desmosomes, hemidesmosomes, and adherens junctions, which anchor cells to each other and extracellular fluid through various transmembrane proteins and cytoskeletal elements.

An intrapreneur is defined as an individual within an organization who takes responsibility for turning ideas into profitable products through risk-taking and innovation. Companies benefit from intrapreneurship through competitive advantages from new innovations that intrapreneurs bring to market. Intrapreneurs benefit through flexibility, recognition, increased value to the organization, and increased compensation. For intrapreneurship to succeed, companies must encourage creativity, grant ownership to intrapreneurs, and treat intrapreneurial teams as profit centers.

Presentation to the Old Dominion University (ODU) MBA Association, 3/20/13Marty Kaszubowski
The document discusses several key points about entrepreneurship and new venture formation:
1) Entrepreneurship and new ventures are the primary drivers of economic growth, not small or large existing companies. High-growth startups create the most jobs.
2) Starting a new venture can be a rewarding career path that allows one to create something from nothing, take control of their career, and potentially make a big impact.
3) Successful new ventures focus on proving their business model and solutions before attempting large-scale growth ("Nail it, then scale it"). Having the right founding team and understanding customers are also important success factors.
4) While starting a venture involves significant risks and effort
This document provides guidance on basic principles for starting and running a successful business. It outlines key areas to consider such as deciding your business focus, managing cash flow and employees, and maintaining integrity. The document emphasizes the importance of vision, passion, and having what it takes to succeed as an entrepreneur. It also discusses developing a business idea, creating a business plan, obtaining funding, building systems and teams, and leveraging technology and best practices. The overall message is that successful entrepreneurship requires thorough preparation and a strong work ethic.
The Lean Startup Basics and Intro for BeginnersBlaz Kos
The presentation focuses on providing an overview, fundamentals and history of the concept of the lean startup companies.
The presentation very clearly shows why business plans are not that much important anymore, what is waste in business and how to reduce it and why every start-up must be a learning organization.
Growing your business can be hard work. But, it becomes even harder when you continually focus on “areas for improvement”… There is an alternative; it is called a “Bright Spots Approach”.
In this presentation you will learn:
- Why you should focus more on bright spots
- How other companies are successfully using bright spots to grow faster
- Why bright spots focus will also help you fix the weak spots in your company
- How you can get started quickly

Measuring Team Happiness – A Real-Life Journey of Fostering an Engaging Worki...Agile Montréal
There is no team more productive than a healthy, engaged team. Unfortunately, some organizations still use bottom line metrics to drive performance, which typically hurt more than they help. In this talk we’ll focus on an alternative approach to fostering a great working environment, looking at how we can leverage Spotify’s “Squad Health Check Model” and Patrick Hanlon’s “Primal Branding” to build strong foundations and feedback mechanisms that set the stage for high-performance Agile Teams.
Daniel Tardif
Building a world class team requires hiring and retaining Very Talented People (VTP's). This presentation covers finding, recruiting and retaining these elite performers on your team.
The document discusses key aspects of team building for startups. It emphasizes that ideas are worth nothing without execution, and execution requires a team. An ideal startup team is small, with 3-4 people fulfilling core roles in development, design, and marketing. When looking for co-founders, it's important to assess commitment, complementary skills, shared goals and values, and how potential co-founders handle adversity. A useful exercise is setting a short-term goal to work on together to evaluate teamwork and fit. Overall, the document stresses that teams, not individuals, start companies, and that team composition and dynamics are essential for translating ideas into successful execution.
Secrets of Starting a Winning Company: annotated by EltonElton Sherwin

It warns against betting everything on one idea and advises pruning ideas that don't work to make room for better opportunities.
