Instructor s Solution for Cirque du Soleil Tour Planning

Discussion Questions: Tour Planning at Cirque du Soleil: HEC Montreal Centre for Case Studies,
HEC025‐ PDF‐ENG, March 1, 2011. 1) The main decisions facing Cirque is whether Istanbul is an
attractive destination and if so, whether it partners with Turkish Television and Entertainment Society
(TTE) and/or with the City of Istanbul/Ministry of Culture and Tourism (MCT). To begin your
analysis, please enumerate the advantages and disadvantages for each of the two proposals. (2 pts) In

2) Evaluate the financial aspects of the two proposals. (4 pts) a. Compare the estimated potential
revenues from all sources (box office, promotional revenues, and sponsorships) for the two proposals.
If appropriate, provide a range (pessimistic, most likely, optimistic) for each. b. Compare the
estimated costs (Installation, Operations, Fixed and administrative, and any extraordinary expenditures
associated with either proposal). For this question, you may assume that Cirque will only consider a
show that is already in Europe, and thus would not involve an international transfer. c. Estimate the
contribution to profit for the two proposals. Some variability in assessments of the financial aspects of
this case seems inevitable. For brevity, I ve reported my best guess about potential revenues,

The Moral Value Of Moral Values
The claim that moral values cannot be derived from facts is grounded in the idea that facts are
descriptive and informative, whereas value propositions are prescriptive and imply that we ought to
carry out certain action or act in a particular way. In essence, while facts give us information about the
world itself, values tell us how we should act. It is accepted that facts are cognitive and are therefore
know to be true or false. However, non cognitivists support the idea that moral truths cannot be known
due to the notion that any individual who is making moral judgements is not articulating their beliefs
about the way the world is. Essentially, it is believed that there are no transcendent moral thoughts to
be known or discovered by individuals. David Hume initially pointed out that it would be illogical to
derive facts from values facts cannot be used in the assignment of values. This was later referred to as
the is ought gap, fact value distinction, or naturalistic fallacy to use the term created by G.E. Moore.
Primarily, it is a matter of fact what our moral duties are. For example; Plato argued that the good can
be known through reason, and the knowledge of the good is sufficient enough to motivate us to pursue
it. However, in accordance to Hume s Law, no factual description of an action can entail a value
judgement concerning it. Additionally, reason alone cannot provide motivation for action, or that
beliefs are distinct from desires. On the contrary, Kant

Since its inception, SharePoint has become a Swiss Army knife that covers a wide range of
information needs and has been deployed for many different functional requirements. Many
companies have customized it, whether in its look and feel, building custom integration with external
systems or developing new applications. Furthermore, companies have grown to depend on third party
independent software vendors (ISVs) to fill SharePoint s gaps or build vertical applications onto
SharePoint server. While such moves have typically delivered good business benefits, they have made
migrating from one generation to the next costly and complex. Industry leaders estimate that close to

Microsoft has the potential to innovate in this cloud environment because it can use analytics to
quickly understand business usage trends across thousands of organizations a level of visibility it did
not have in the traditional approach. It can then rapidly develop applications and approaches as well as
test and deploy new interfaces. Users will realize the benefits of this rapid innovation as their work
environments become more nimble, leading to stronger engagement; IT departments will realize the
benefits of having Microsoft manage this aspect of their technology portfolio, allowing them to
concentrate on other projects.
Business drivers and cost management: SharePoint Online doesn t take long to set up and users can
perform basic tasks quickly. Microsoft trickles improvements through every three months. For

Shackleton Leadership Essay
Throughout this voyage, there was no set itinerary or guidelines to follow as they were traveling into
the unknown. Since this was an unfamiliar endeavor, the crew relied heavily on the experience and
leadership of Shackleton to navigate them through the unforeseen obstacles which laid ahead. The
adversity which faced them along every aspect of the journey was tremendous, and without a leader
who was searching for opportunities to better their circumstance, many would have perished. Kouzes
Posner (2012) identify how leadership is the study of how people guide others to triumph over
adversity, hardships, and overwhelming odds. It is the leader who needs to seek out other
opportunities to better the circumstances of their follows to overcome hardships. ... Show more

This is even more important in Shackleton s case, as complacency would undoubtedly lead to the
negligent death of his crew. For instance, when the ice began to crush the ship, Shackleton decided to
take lifeboats and abandon the vessel. If he had not searched for a better opportunity, they would have
lost all supplies when the boat finally sank. Another example is when they reached Elephant Island,
staying there would have resulted in the death all of members, as the food was scarce and there was no
ability to signal for rescue. Furthermore, if everyone tried to cross the ocean the chances of success for
all ships was unlikely. Shackleton new that another option was needed in order for everyone to
survive, so he sought out the idea of only sending himself and a few others. This allowed others to
survive on the island while they looked for rescue. If Shackleton did not seek out opportunities to
better the others, they would not have been able to reach South Georgia and return to rescue the rest.
Being a complacent leader would have altered this story from greatest survival to the greatest

Alexander The Great Motives
In the book The Classical World: an Epic History of Greece and Rome by Robin Lane Fox, the
remarkable conquest of Alexander the Great is explained. After Philip, the king of Macedon, was
murdered in the most brutal way, his son Alexander was declared king. Evident in The Classical world
as it states; ...succeeded his murdered father in 336 five years later, aged twenty five...incomparably
richer than anyone known in previous Greek history (Lane Fox, para 1, 230). His significant motives
lead to great outcomes demonstrated by the luxurious life that prepared Alexander the Great, the role
and parental belief in a god, followed by his wish to succeed more than his father motivated Alexander
to become Alexander the Great. A Macedonian king s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alexander felt the need to work harder than his father and bring his wish to be better and become
remarkable (Lane Fox, para 9, 235). Alexander and his father did not have a good relationship:
Alexander wanted to surpass his father and be known for who he was dependently. Even though the
father and son relationship was not the best, Alexander knew his father and the strong army his father
had built and throughout his journey, Alexander used the army and the battle tactics that his father had
left behind Alexander s crack troops were Philip s Shield bearers, hardened infantry who savaged the
Indian armies and their elephants, even when many of them, Philip s recruits, were already over sixty
years old (Lane Fox, para 4, p 231). Alexander became successful throughout his battles conquering
many countries with the army that had been left behind by his father. Finally, in the book The
Classical World: an Epic History of Greece and Rome Alexander s motives that shaped his remarkable
life are described by Robin Lane Fox. He became a Macedonian king who was raised to become a
king, his role model Achilles that pushed Alexander to succeed, and the bad relationship with his
father that made him want to do better. Alexander the Great inspires others to be superior through the

Essay on Investigating the Effect of Alcohol on Heartbeat...
Investigating the Effect of Alcohol on Heartbeat of Daphnia
Daphnia are the organisms that are involved in this experiment to find out what effect alcohol has on
their heartbeat. It is easy to study the effects of alcohol on the heart of Daphnia as the organ can be
easily seen through the transparent body of Daphnia. The number of heartbeats may be counted before
submersion in alcohol and after submersion in alcohol to investigate the effect of alcohol.
Daphnia belong to the Phylum Arthropoda and are Branchiopoda which belong to the class, Crustacea.
Daphnia are invertebrates and also have an exoskeleton, jointed appendages, a dorsal heart and open
blood system.
The effect of alcohol on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can also be related to Daphnia in the same way. Therefore I predict that as the concentration of
alcohol surrounding the Daphnia increases the greater the percentage decrease of heartbeat.
ABSTRACT
The aim of the investigation was to find out the effect of alcohol on the heart rate of Daphnia. My
hypothesis was, as the concentration of alcohol increases the lower the heartbeat of the Daphnia will
fall. To test my prediction I carried out 25 individual experiments which were all carried out using the
same procedure but varying the alcohol concentration of the solution. To investigate how alcohol
concentration affects the heartbeat of Daphnia I recorded the heartbeat of 25 Daphnia for a period of 7
minutes. This included 1 minute before submersion in alcohol, 3 minutes during submersion in
alcohol and 3 minutes after submersion in alcohol. I then found the percentage decrease of the
heartbeat of the Daphnia from the resting heart rate. At the highest concentration of ethanol solution,
1x10 1gcm 3 the greatest percentage decrease of heart rate was 86.5%. The results in general show
that increasing the concentration of alcohol decreases the heartbeat of the Daphnia lower.
METHOD
Before starting the practical part of the investigation the different concentrations of alcohol that

My Struggle For Independence Growing Up Of A First...
It is with great honour to share the tale of my struggle for independence growing up in a first
generation home. To begin, I shall introduce you to my family. Firstly, my parents had three children
together, all two years apart, me being the youngest. Both of my parents had high school diplomas,
however were unsuccessful in earning a well supporting, paying job. My mom worked in an office as
a clerk; although once she got pregnant she stayed at home to take care of the young children.
However, once our budget started to become tight, my mom had to start working again. Unfortunately,
my mom s old position was filled by an individual with post secondary experience. Eventually, she
obtained a position once a week as a cashier at a local ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fights and arguments that my parents had would rub off on the children making life very difficult.
My parents would fight so constantly that they could no longer keep their marriage happy causing
them to file for a divorce. This was the hardest time in my life. When my parents got the divorce I
went from barely seeing my own father from working long hours to barely seeing my own mother,
who had to pick up full time work as a cashier. Eventually, my dad went to live with his parents which
resulting in me rarely seeing him. I knew I had to help out because my mother was now single, taking
care of three kids. My mom would work three jobs trying to pay for lawyer fees for the divorce, pay
bills, and take care of three young children. After seeing endless days and nights of my mom crying
over finances, I promised to her life was going to be different.
I developed a sense of determination to gain an education and pay for my own tuition. The struggle of
coming from a first generation family has definitely opened my eyes to the harsh reality of life without
post secondary experience. My ambition to help began when I was eight. The job only paid eighty
dollars a month, which I split with my brother, leaving me with only forty dollars. Eventually, when I
was fourteen, I got my first real paying job at Tim Horton s working weekends while still studying

Knowledge and Technology in A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court
A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court is a complicated novel that fundamentally deals with the
concept of the human experience. Hank Morgan is a nineteenth century mechanic who is transported
back thirteen centuries to medieval Britain, during the time of King Arthur. After his initial shock, he
becomes determined to civilize Camelot by introducing modern industrial technology. At an initial
look Twain seems to be favoring the industrialized capitalist society that he lives in over the feudal
society of medieval Britain. But in a closer examination of the work it becomes clear that this
observation is much too simple, as the industrial world that Hank Morgan ... Show more content on

(Twain 40). Hank forgets his own humanity and begins to believe that his knowledge makes him more
of a man, just as the nobility that he shunned believed they were better than the serfs because of the
titles they held.
Hank Morgan uses his superior knowledge of technology to gain personal power. It soon becomes
clear that even though thirteen hundred years have given Hank a technological advantage, they haven t
made him any smarter. Twain himself says of Hank,
...this Yankee of mine has neither the refinement nor the weakness of a college education; he is a
perfect ignoramus; he is boss of a machine shop; he can build a locomotive or a Colt s revolver, he can
put up and run a telegraph line, but he s an ignoramus, nevertheless. (Guttmann 103)
Hank possesses all of this technological knowledge, but fails to understand the implications that this
knowledge will have on the people of the Camelot. Instead of educating the general public and
teaching them how and why something works instead he sends a select few to his man factories .
He uses his knowledge instead to produce fantastic miracles, which although they give him personal
power, continue to perpetuate the superstitions of the populace that he is trying to overcome. For
example, Hank is asked to fix the well at the Valley of Holiness. He installs a pump that will return the
water,

`` The First Full Length Novel `` By Henry Fielding
Joseph Andrews, the first full length novel which was made by the English author Henry Fielding.
And considered from the first English novels, this novel was called by Henry Fielding s comic epic
poem in prose. This novel is a parody version of the novel Pamela . it is the story of a good natured
footman s adventures on the road home from London with his friend and mentor, the stargazing parson
Abraham Adams. The novel speaks to the meeting up of the two contending feel of eighteenth century
writing: the false chivalrous and neoclassical (and, by augmentation, privileged) methodology of
Augustans, for example, Alexander Pope and Jonathan Swift; and the famous, household exposition
fiction of authors, for example, Daniel Defoe and Samuel Richardson. At this paper I will discuss
points of view themes, characters, language, and significance

much more seasoned than her twenty one year old servant and evidently minimal irritated by her

Inbreeding Depression By Environment Interactions Essay
Inbreeding Depression
Inbreeding depression is a widely studied topic in the fields of not only genetics, but as well as the
fields of biology, ecology, etc. Directly speaking, inbreeding depression results in the loss or reduced
expression of a trait due to the mating between two closely related organisms (Hartl 547). As of today,
there are a plethora of studies and evidence that explain how and why inbreeding occurs within
populations even though it is deleterious for the populations. However, several of these experiments
are done in an unnatural environment or researchers have manipulated data in a way to deem the
results not truly representative (JM Pemberton et al.,2016). It is vital to discover and understand the
inbreeding depression of organisms in natural conditions so that this area of study is accurately
represented by reasonable data and the knowledge of this topic can be expanded accurately. The
article, Inbreeding Depression by Environment Interactions in a Free living Mammal Population
published in Heredity in November 2016, discusses research done on a population of sheep in St.
Kilda in attempt to discover inbreeding depression by environment interaction with unmanipulated
and true data. The sheep live on an isolated island, so it is assumed that inbreeding is high in the
population and genetic variation is low as well.
In this article, the researchers analyzed nine traits in the sheep for inbreeding depression by
environment interaction. These traits are

Success In Norman Rockwell s Painting The Catch
What does one need to be happy? Is it a nice car? Maybe it s a new pair of shoes? What about
success? What defines success and what does one need to be successful? The truth is, it depends on
one s definition. Success can be defined in different ways. Success could be defined as being
financially stable, or it could be something as simple as feeling accomplished with achieved goals.
Norman Rockwell s painting The Catch offers refreshing ideas on what it means to be happy and what
one needs to be successful.
At first glance, Rockwell s painting illustrates a successful day of fishing for three young friends, all
of whom have their catch for the day strung in one hand and their fishing gear in the other. Out of the

Rockwell s painting suggests the idea that money is not a determining factor in happiness.
Upon further examination of Rockwell s portrait, the viewer starts to notice the smaller details and
tons of interesting objects that are only noticed after examining the painting multiple times (Venezia,
31). One starts to notice the smaller details, such as quality of the boys clothes and what they are
carrying. The happier boys lack pairs of shoes and have an abundance of holes in their clothing. The
somber looking boy has a clean white shirt tucked into pants, a bow around his collar, and expensive
looking fishing gear. After noting the appearance of all three boys, the viewer s eyes are drawn to the
fish that the upscale boy is carrying. His one and only fish is small not even half the size of any of the
fish the other boys caught. The clean cut boy in the center is unhappy and only has one measly fish to
show for the day s work. Meanwhile, the two underdressed boys are both carrying multiple fish of
decent size in their hands. It is surprising that the boy with expensive fishing gear only has one small
fish. Upon first glance, one would assume that the well dressed boy would have been the most
prosperous in catching the most fish. He has the most suitable fishing gear, but he did not end up
being the most fortunate when it came to catching fish. Wallace Wattles, an American author who

1. Comparison of Instrumentation In song #1, You ve Got To Hide Your Love Away, features both
John Lennon and Paul McCartney on the acoustic rhythm guitar, George Harrison on the acoustic lead
guitar, Ringo Starr circulates between the tambourine, shaker, and maracas. Johnnie Scott plays the
tenor and alto flutes (MacDonald, 148). In song #2, I m Down, has a little different setup on
instrumentation with McCartney on the electric bass, Lennon on the electric guitar, organ, Harrison on
lead Electric Guitar, and Starr on the drums, bongos. (MacDonald, 148). The resemblance for song #1

Chuck Berry was perhaps the most fundamental progenitor of the Beatles sound,
(www.liverpoolcityportal.co.uk/beatle/beatles_influences[ 0], April 13th, 2013). The solo s of electric
guitar can be heard in both Berry s Johnny B Goode and I m Down. Between both Beatles songs the
differences seem to override the similarities. They both have a completely different feel. One
screaming rock n roll and the other acoustic folk. The influences of each song clearly point this out.
Bob Dylan an acoustic player and Little Richard a Rock N Roll player are two completely different
sounding musicians.
3. Discussion of the Lyrics
The lyrics of song #1 have a poetic feel to them. You ve got to hide your love away, can be
categorized as (2) sexuality or (8) abstract or poetic image making. The sexuality can be seen within
the lyrics and even in the title of the song. Homosexuality is what the song is about when reading the
lyrics carefully. Almost like a picture story you can imagine a gay individual who has to had his love
and everywhere people stare at hime making the person feel two foot small. After understanding the
deep meaning of the song it becomes more personal and beautiful. That is where an abstract and poetic
image is made.
The lyrics of song #2, I m down, can be categorized as (3) alienation. The lyrics are very repetitive,
repeating I m down over and over again. The lyrics make someone feel estranged or outcasted. How

The Benefits Of College Tuitions In America
College tuitions in American is too expansive for the young adult who has the potential to be
successful in our community. Many people were not able to attend college due to financial issues.
College tuitions can go over $100,000 for a four year college. In result, they find part time jobs to pay
their tuitions and spend extra time in college for total of six through seven years instead of four years
to achieve their bachelor degree. In addition, many college students take loans and had to pay over
$30,000 of debt after attending college (Lobosco). It s upsetting to see people especially young adults

This has become a huge problem because we are speaking about the future of America. The people

The Role of Socialization of Children in War Essay
For over 20 years, the Lord s Resistance Army has been at war with the government of Uganda,
causing a civil war. The Army s Rebel Groups, have attacked small villages, resulting in thousands of
innocent deaths, and the abduction of children to fight with the rebels. In order to maintain these
organizations, the Rebel Groups are faced with the difficult task of recruiting individuals. With limited
available resources, the Rebel Groups cannot offer any appealing incentives to their recruits, but
require complete loyalty (Vermeij, 2009). A child s innocence, trust, and blind obedience make them
desirable soldiers. For the Rebel Groups in South Africa, children are therefore strategically used as
pawns in combat. Children under the age ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the complete destruction of a child s milieu, biography and history, he begins to doubt [his]
ability to influence [his] environment [or] establish an identity (Kline 2003). In search of a new
gemeinschaft, the child looks towards Rebel Groups as a way to fill this void. Consumed by thoughts
of a bleak and hopeless future, the boys find silver lining in the Rebel Leaders who present them with
a new ambition. They brainwash the boys to believe that becoming a soldier is a way of fighting for
something they believe in, and in turn, provide the boys with hope for the future. They motivate the
boys by promoting the strongest and bravest as for a goal for the weaker to achieve. The introduction
of new rights and responsibilities for the boys, shapes an artificial civilization for the children to grow
up in. The norms communicated by the army to each boy, create a strong basis for the development of
a new personal biography (Oetting 1999). It is evident in children who have been rescued from these
conditions, that they have been more affected by the loss of their family than of their exposure to
violence (Kline 2003). Oetting (1999) further illustrates that the separation of a child from his/her
family promotes aggression and allows the child to disconnect from future ties with peers, school, and
society. This

Prejudice In 12 Angry Men
In many societies, there is a type of social structure that categorizes people into groups depending on
many factors. Those on the bottom look up to those on the top, who in turn, look down on them. The
latter is characterized in the book 12 angry men by reginald rose. Twelve angry men is the story about
twelve men who are randomly selected to be on jury of a mysterious murder case. The case starts out
with juror number 8 voting guilty. Conversely, the unanimous verdict at the end of the story is not
guilty. Within the story, there are some jurors whose judgement are clouded with their own personal
flaws, one of them being juror number 10. In Reginald Rose s Twelve angry men, juror number 10 s
sense of classism and prejudice hinders the group s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From the very start, he assumes that the defendant of the case killed his father before they even
discussed the parameters surrounding the case. His preconceived opinion of the boy is detrimental to
the case at hand, all the while when the boy s life is at stake. However, his prejudice is only one of his
shortcomings.
Juror number 10 s other fatal flaw is his sense of classism. Due to the fact that the boy was raised in
the slums, he automatically thinks that the boy is a thug. He says that there is not one of them who is
any good and that they are wild animals who are against them. His generalization with a classicist
mind set leads him to believe that all people who are raised in the slums are soon to be hooligans. In
addition, his stubbornness to accept the theories of the other jurors only crippled the jury.
In conclusion, juror number 10 has the decision to deem the defendant either guilty or not guilty and
his classism and prejudice affected his inability to make a fair decision as well as the group s ability
deliver a fair verdict by buffering the process of the jury s decision. In contrast to his mindset , he
succumbed to declaring a not guilty verdict because he has a reasonable doubt in mind. In most cases,
having a sense of classicism and bias only ends up in alienation for the individual which is what
happened to juror 10. Overall, juror ten is one of the few, yet problematic jurors who really

1. I A cognitive assessment involves a series of tests and puzzles which look at different thinking

Mealworms Lab Report
Zophobas morio Preference between a vanilla or coffee abstract
Tylar Lauby
Tuesdays at 6pm
23 September 2014
Abstract Zophobas morio, also known as mealworms, is the larva of the beetles called tenebrionid
beetles. These beetles have a tendency of mainly eating grass and sticks, and they also tend to burrow.
This lab study is to find out if the Z. morio prefer the smell of coffee abstract or the sweet vanilla
abstract. The way we did this study was by taking a habitat with oats in it and see what side the
mealworms would prefer (the coffee side or the vanilla side). My conclusion of what side the
mealworms preferred is the vanilla abstract over the coffee. This might have been so because they
may have liked the sweeter smell ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The mealworms seemed to have preferred the side with vanilla more than coffee. In the scientific
method you have several steps that take place. These steps include observe, develop questions, test,
collect information, analyze the findings, form conclusions, share results, and finally conduct more
research (Schiff, 2015). We have done all of these besides conduct more research. More research
needs to be done in order to find out more accurately if these test findings are accurate. I question my
findings because the abstracts are both human creations making me wonder why they would go to
either or if they had the diet that they do. After finding information about the mealworms I would have
changed my hypothesis to them wanting to go over to the coffee abstract more. This is because it s
more of a natural food and it isn t has sweet smelling as that of vanilla abstract. The test results
surprised me when after the first test. This is because I figured the mealworms would go to vanilla
because of the sweeter smell. But surprisingly they went to the coffee side more. The second and third
test the mealworms went more of where I originally thought. I figured that all three of the test would
be more like the last test was like. Mealworms can be a pest in a house. They can get into your flour,
corn meal, or any other type of house grains (Arizona, 1997). This is why some students did their

Father Diego Dur An Advocate For The Aztecs Of The Aztec...
Father Diego Durán was a Dominican priest in Mexico after the Spanish conquest of the Aztec
Empire. He was born in Selville, Spain in 1537 but moved to New Spain as a child. He originally
lived in Texcoco but eventually moved to Mexico City and became a priest in 1556. He became fluent
in the native language Nahuatl and gained the inhabitants trust with his understanding nature and
respect for their culture. He used his experiences and access to first hand knowledge to write three
books, The Ancient Calendar, The History of the Indies of New Spain, and The Book of Gods and
Rites, collectively known as the Durán Codex.
Durán was an advocate for the Aztecs living in New Spain, but he was still a Catholic priest who saw
everything he did through the lense of potential conversion. During his extensive study of the local
culture he came to see the parallels between his faith and indigenous religion as evidence of
Abrahamic religion having been brought to the New World and corrupted by the Devil. The only way,
according to Durán, to truly root out the satanic practices of the Mesoamerican religions was to
understand them. He wrote the Durán Codex to both help that missionary work and satisfy his own
curiosity.
The Book of Gods and Rites was written from 1574 to 1576. Fifty years before that, Hernan Cortez
had taken over the Aztec Empire and toppled it s capital city Tenochtitlan. After the Spanish took over

Although Emily Dickinson was a complete recluse and was not recognized in her own time, she is

Leonard Humphrey, principal of Amherst Academy, and a family friend named Benjamin Franklin

While Emily s poetry often hinted at an unknown lover, her preserved letters give a sombre reflection.
Until Dickinson was in her mid 20s, her writing mostly took the form of letters. These letters she sent
out consist of a surprising number of those that she wrote from age 11 onward that have now been
preserved. She often sent to her brother, Austin, or to her own female friends, including Abiah Root,
Jane Humphrey, and Susan Gilbert. Susan would later marry Emily s elder brother, Austin. These
honorable communications overflow with humour, story telling, intellectual interest, and dark
reflection. Throughout her letters, one could infer that Emily Dickinson had given and demanded more
from her correspondents than she had received. She frequently construed that her correspondents lack
of response as confirmation of abandonment or even disloyalty. Nonetheless, the loss of friends,
whether through death or declining interest, became an underlying commodity for Dickinson. Much of
Emily s writing, both poetic and the form of letters, seems premised on a feeling of abandonment and
a matching attempt to oppose, overcome, or reflect on a sense of loneliness. There are very few letters
that remain today. Emily had previously asked that her

In the Epilogue at the end of the book it clearly states, Friends don t have to be alike to be part of a

argue that, in the book they all seem to be the same type of person, Sam and Rameck more so than

George had separated himself from the bad crowd, understanding the trouble it could get him into.

Gluten Free Diet And Gluten Food
The Gluten free diet, a shitshow
Gluten free, it has become the blazing slogan on the majority of food items, including food items that
never had gluten to begin with, such as water. This push towards ridding our diets of grains has
become extremely mainstream, but is this diet as healthy as it has been made out to be? While there
can be some benefits to the gluten free diet, there is a lot of scientific evidence that suggests that
products containing gluten are a staple of a healthy diet. Even though a gluten free diet may be
medically necessary for some, the gluten free products available on the market are very expensive.
Ultimately, the only people who truly benefit from gluten free diets are those who have been
diagnosed with celiac disease or non celiac gluten sensitivity. The people who do choose to partake in
the gluten free diet who do not have a pre existing medical condition should consult their doctor
before altering their diet.
When I was attending primary school, maladies such as non celiac gluten sensitivity did not exist. Fast
forward to the year 2016, and I can name at least five people who are gluten free. The popularity of
the gluten free diet has grown, with, approximately 30% of the US population adhering to a gluten
free diet (Linda Johanson, 2015). Why is it that so much of the US population has adopted a gluten
free diet? According to the American Journal of Cardiology (AJC), this trend has been fueled by,

Q.
Explain one activity or event you were involved in that you feel that you have learned from. Describe
how you have used what you learned from the experience.
A. One event that I was involved in that I have learned from is becoming a patrol leader in Boy
Scouts. Currently, I am still a patrol leader and I like to think that it is because of my outstanding
leadership skills. I learned a lot of things and continue to learn how to be a great leader. One of the
most important skills that I learned while leading my patrol was how to get your patrol to follow
directions. It s actually a two step process. Step one is to make sure that your patrol is paying attention
to you while you are speaking. This requires making things interesting to ... Show more content on

The Meaning of War
The word war has been used many times, it s been in movies, newspapers, books, and video games but
what does it actually mean? War has been in human history before history was even recorded and
there isn t just one kind of war there are actually multiple forms of war but there is always one thing
that is the same. War is an intentional, widespread conflict between two political or opposing parties.
It can range from the indirect political war like elections to the direct and violent world war like World
War ll. A quote by Sun Tzu sums up war in The Art of War by writing War is violent action taken to
the utmost extreme .
There are many kinds of war with major and subcategories but when we think of war we generally
think of we re two sides face off against each other on the battlefield but there are two major
classifications with war. The first kind, violent war, is fought because of resources, religion, and
liberty and usually has high amounts of casualties to both sides. Major categories include Religious
War, Civil War, and World War all having major contributions to how they world is today. World war,
possibly one of the best known types of war because of World War l and World War ll. this type of war
is waged across the whole world involving all countries, it could be because of direct involvement or
because of indirect causes of war economies. There are extremely high numbers of casualties not

The Conception Of Hatshepsut s Life
The conceptions of Hatshepsut have been altered over time due to a wide range of archalogical site
interpretations, and modern historians. These ideas of a prosperous image must also take into
consideration the legacy she is determined in leaving behind. Some of these renditions include her
transformation into a pharaoh and how her own propaganda can create the image she is so determined
in leaving behind; to be viewed for both past and present. Hatshepsut s own interpretation of herself
are highly important to understand her motivation and ambitions. Not all views of Hatshepsut s life

Alexander The Great, King Of Asia
Alexander the Great, King of Asia, King of the Four Quarters of the World, King of Babylon, King of
Macedonia, etc. Born in 356 B.C., he died in 323 from a sickness at age 32. In Alexander s short life
he became one of the best military tacticians in the world. His military genius allowed him to create
and rule an enormous Western empire in the ancient world. He was successful in all his military
endeavors and his empire, stretching from Greece to India, shows that. He changed the course of
history with all that he did. Without Alexander we wouldn t have the Alexandria Library and many
other things. He created a new culture which was a combination of Greece and Persia cultures, new or
improved war tactics, changed the way people thought and so much more. He may have had a short
life, but that didn t stop him. He managed to do so many wonderful things that his legend and legacy
still live on today. Early Life Alexander the Great, ruler of Macedonia, Babylon, Persia and most of
Asia, was exceptional all throughout life. He was born in the summer of 356 B.C. in a town called
Pella. He was of average height and had deep set, dark eyes and dark, curly hair. Alexander was the
son of King Philip II of Macedonia and Queen Olympia, who was the daughter of the Molossian king
Neoptolemus. He also had a sister a year younger than him named Cleopatra. Alexander grew up
without seeing their father much; King Phillip II was always away, involved in military campaigns

Understanding National Culture And A Common Values And...
1. Introduction
According to Hofstede definition, it is possible to develop the idea of national culture as the common
values and attitudes shared by a particular group of humans that are passed down between generations
by different processes (Hofstede, 1980, p. 21).
Given this, the primary target of this essay is to analyse the fundamental approaches to understand
national culture and the way that this culture can manifest and make the difference in the entry of
companies in new markets.
In order to achieve this goal, I shall proceed to explain these approaches one by one using different
business examples, discuss the prime criticisms and conclude with the importance of these for
international business. 2. Approaches to National ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This means that same expressions, words or sentences could change their meanings drastically in
different contexts, thus being necessary to understand it correctly. (Hall, 1976, pp. 85 104)
Following this argument, Hall says that each culture has a particular way to understand the
background. For instance, American people usually tends to have quick relationships and do not feel
an essential implication with friends. On the contrary in the Middle East, people take more time to
establish relations and hope that friends will not let you down. (Hall, 1960).
Furthermore, Hall builds a differentiation between High Context and Low Context cultures using
characteristics which could be divided in:
Source: (Andrews Mead, 2009).
This context model could be used in numerous situations that firms who attempt to be global may
face. For example, if a company is going to operate a foreign direct investment, it has to deal not only
with this differences with other companies, as in a joint venture experience, but also with the own
national workers and even with the costumer behaviour
Moreover, Hall also introduces the concept of polychronic and monochronic in order to describe how
cultures perceive, structure and manage time. Cultures identified as monochronic experience time as
settle components that can be scheduled and the result is that they select to do one action at a time.
Otherwise, polychronic cultures appreciate time as continuous, without structure

How Did The Weather Affect The Spread Of The Great Plague
October 1347, tewele trading ships docked on the Sicilian port of Messina after sailing across the
Black Sea. When they arrived on the dock more than half of the sailors aboard were incohesive and
the others were running high fevers. Everyone on the ship had black boils that oozed blood and pus. In
panic, the Sician authorities ordered all of ships and infected people out of the harbor.
The winter before the Great Plague was a dry one. Allowing rodents to live more freely. Since the
weather was on the more dryer side, the rodent population did not decrease as it would during any
other winter. When spring came along the air was hot and sticky, giving the female rodents a chance to
give birth to two litters. With London s hotter weather, it soonly became known as the rat infested city.
Another spreader of the Great Plague was fleas. Once the fleas had gotten ahold of the disease, they
would spread it to stray cats and dogs. These strays would then pass it to the homeless. ... Show more

Soon after there would be swelling around the armpits and private areas. These swellings would grow
between the sizes of an egg to an apple. The plague s symptoms then changed to a rash like symptom,
often breaking out on the inner thigh or arms where it would spread throughout the body. One of the
first victims of the Black Plague was St Giles in the Fields church, where their death rates began to
rise in the dry summer. If someone was detected to have the plague they were locked into their homes
for 40 days and 40 nights. Their door was also painted with a red cross to keep others out. The only
ones allowed into the homes of the victims were local women who were called nurses . These women
brought food and took care of the victims. It was often reported that the nurses would take belongings

Fitzgerald’s Use of Color in the Great Gatsby
F. Scott Fitzgerald s classic novel, The Great Gatsby, exposes the corruption and greed of the Roaring
Twenties. Fitzgerald is able to captivate readers attentions through his employment of color
symbolism. Fitzgerald portrays important messages in the novel by his symbolic use of colors. Colors
play an important role in Fitzgerald s descriptions of the lives of Jay Gatsby, Nick Carraway and many
of the other characters in the novel. Fitzgerald uses the colors white, yellow, and green to express
certain sentiments to the reader, commenting what is going on in the story. Fitzgerald uses the color
white to symbolize purity and innocence, while yellow is used to symbolize moral decay, and death.
Green is used to represent hope and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While Gatsby attempts to hide his dishonesty, Nick, considers himself one of the few honest people
that I have ever known (Fitzgerald, 59) and Fitzgerald often describes him as wearing white. The first
time he attends one of Gatsby s infamous parties, he wears a white flannel suit. Nick is aware of the
importance of this event, being formally invited to one of Gatsby s parties, and wants to project the
right image. His white suit emulates honesty and the appearance of being untainted. Similar to white
projecting honesty and purity, Fitzgerald also uses it to symbolize perfection. Daisy, always in white,
was perfect in Gatsby s eyes. He lived his life around her, in order to reclaim her. Just as Daisy s
whiteness symbolized perfection to Gatsby, the white world of the upper class was the epitome of
perfection for Myrtle Wilson, Tom s mistress. To Myrtle, the perfect life would be to live like Daisy, to
be wealthy. Although she lives in the valley of ashes as the wife of a garage owner, she feels she
belongs with the upper class. She stakes claim in high society through Tom, but will never be fully
able to gain access to their elite world. Fitzgerald shows her attempt to become white through her
clothing. When she is first seen in the novel, she is wearing a spotted dress of dark blue (Fitzgerald,
25).

  • 4. The Moral Value Of Moral Values The claim that moral values cannot be derived from facts is grounded in the idea that facts are descriptive and informative, whereas value propositions are prescriptive and imply that we ought to carry out certain action or act in a particular way. In essence, while facts give us information about the world itself, values tell us how we should act. It is accepted that facts are cognitive and are therefore know to be true or false. However, non cognitivists support the idea that moral truths cannot be known due to the notion that any individual who is making moral judgements is not articulating their beliefs about the way the world is. Essentially, it is believed that there are no transcendent moral thoughts to be known or discovered by individuals. David Hume initially pointed out that it would be illogical to derive facts from values facts cannot be used in the assignment of values. This was later referred to as the is ought gap, fact value distinction, or naturalistic fallacy to use the term created by G.E. Moore. Primarily, it is a matter of fact what our moral duties are. For example; Plato argued that the good can be known through reason, and the knowledge of the good is sufficient enough to motivate us to pursue it. However, in accordance to Hume s Law, no factual description of an action can entail a value judgement concerning it. Additionally, reason alone cannot provide motivation for action, or that beliefs are distinct from desires. On the contrary, Kant ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Since its inception, SharePoint has become a Swiss Army knife that covers a wide range of information needs and has been deployed for many different functional requirements. Many companies have customized it, whether in its look and feel, building custom integration with external systems or developing new applications. Furthermore, companies have grown to depend on third party independent software vendors (ISVs) to fill SharePoint s gaps or build vertical applications onto SharePoint server. • 6. Shackleton Leadership Essay Throughout this voyage, there was no set itinerary or guidelines to follow as they were traveling into the unknown. Since this was an unfamiliar endeavor, the crew relied heavily on the experience and leadership of Shackleton to navigate them through the unforeseen obstacles which laid ahead. The adversity which faced them along every aspect of the journey was tremendous, and without a leader who was searching for opportunities to better their circumstance, many would have perished. This is even more important in Shackleton s case, as complacency would undoubtedly lead to the negligent death of his crew. For instance, when the ice began to crush the ship, Shackleton decided to take lifeboats and abandon the vessel. If he had not searched for a better opportunity, they would have lost all supplies when the boat finally sank. Another example is when they reached Elephant Island, staying there would have resulted in the death all of members, as the food was scarce and there was no ability to signal for rescue. Furthermore, if everyone tried to cross the ocean the chances of success for all ships was unlikely. Shackleton new that another option was needed in order for everyone to survive, so he sought out the idea of only sending himself and a few others. This allowed others to survive on the island while they looked for rescue. If Shackleton did not seek out opportunities to better the others, they would not have been able to reach South Georgia and return to rescue the rest. It is easy to study the effects of alcohol on the heart of Daphnia as the organ can be easily seen through the transparent body of Daphnia. The number of heartbeats may be counted before submersion in alcohol and after submersion in alcohol to investigate the effect of alcohol. This can also be related to Daphnia in the same way. Therefore I predict that as the concentration of alcohol surrounding the Daphnia increases the greater the percentage decrease of heartbeat. ABSTRACT The aim of the investigation was to find out the effect of alcohol on the heart rate of Daphnia. My hypothesis was, as the concentration of alcohol increases the lower the heartbeat of the Daphnia will fall. To test my prediction I carried out 25 individual experiments which were all carried out using the same procedure but varying the alcohol concentration of the solution. To investigate how alcohol concentration affects the heartbeat of Daphnia I recorded the heartbeat of 25 Daphnia for a period of 7 minutes. This included 1 minute before submersion in alcohol, 3 minutes during submersion in alcohol and 3 minutes after submersion in alcohol. I then found the percentage decrease of the heartbeat of the Daphnia from the resting heart rate. At the highest concentration of ethanol solution, 1x10 1gcm 3 the greatest percentage decrease of heart rate was 86.5%. The results in general show that increasing the concentration of alcohol decreases the heartbeat of the Daphnia lower. Both of my parents had high school diplomas, however were unsuccessful in earning a well supporting, paying job. My mom worked in an office as a clerk; although once she got pregnant she stayed at home to take care of the young children. When my parents got the divorce I went from barely seeing my own father from working long hours to barely seeing my own mother, who had to pick up full time work as a cashier. Eventually, my dad went to live with his parents which resulting in me rarely seeing him. I knew I had to help out because my mother was now single, taking care of three kids. My mom would work three jobs trying to pay for lawyer fees for the divorce, pay bills, and take care of three young children. After seeing endless days and nights of my mom crying over finances, I promised to her life was going to be different. I developed a sense of determination to gain an education and pay for my own tuition. The struggle of coming from a first generation family has definitely opened my eyes to the harsh reality of life without post secondary experience. My ambition to help began when I was eight. Knowledge and Technology in A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court is a complicated novel that fundamentally deals with the concept of the human experience. Hank Morgan is a nineteenth century mechanic who is transported back thirteen centuries to medieval Britain, during the time of King Arthur. After his initial shock, he becomes determined to civilize Camelot by introducing modern industrial technology. At an initial look Twain seems to be favoring the industrialized capitalist society that he lives in over the feudal society of medieval Britain. Hank forgets his own humanity and begins to believe that his knowledge makes him more of a man, just as the nobility that he shunned believed they were better than the serfs because of the titles they held. Hank Morgan uses his superior knowledge of technology to gain personal power. It soon becomes clear that even though thirteen hundred years have given Hank a technological advantage, they haven t made him any smarter. Twain himself says of Hank, ...this Yankee of mine has neither the refinement nor the weakness of a college education; he is a perfect ignoramus; he is boss of a machine shop; he can build a locomotive or a Colt s revolver, he can put up and run a telegraph line, but he s an ignoramus, nevertheless. (Guttmann 103) Hank possesses all of this technological knowledge, but fails to understand the implications that this knowledge will have on the people of the Camelot. Instead of educating the general public and teaching them how and why something works instead he sends a select few to his man factories . He uses his knowledge instead to produce fantastic miracles, which although they give him personal power, continue to perpetuate the superstitions of the populace that he is trying to overcome. • 12. Inbreeding Depression By Environment Interactions Essay Inbreeding Depression Inbreeding depression is a widely studied topic in the fields of not only genetics, but as well as the fields of biology, ecology, etc. Directly speaking, inbreeding depression results in the loss or reduced expression of a trait due to the mating between two closely related organisms (Hartl 547). As of today, there are a plethora of studies and evidence that explain how and why inbreeding occurs within populations even though it is deleterious for the populations. However, several of these experiments are done in an unnatural environment or researchers have manipulated data in a way to deem the results not truly representative (JM Pemberton et al.,2016). It is vital to discover and understand the inbreeding depression of organisms in natural conditions so that this area of study is accurately represented by reasonable data and the knowledge of this topic can be expanded accurately. The article, Inbreeding Depression by Environment Interactions in a Free living Mammal Population published in Heredity in November 2016, discusses research done on a population of sheep in St. Kilda in attempt to discover inbreeding depression by environment interaction with unmanipulated and true data. The sheep live on an isolated island, so it is assumed that inbreeding is high in the population and genetic variation is low as well. In this article, the researchers analyzed nine traits in the sheep for inbreeding depression by environment interaction. These traits are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Norman Rockwell s painting The Catch offers refreshing ideas on what it means to be happy and what one needs to be successful. The somber looking boy has a clean white shirt tucked into pants, a bow around his collar, and expensive looking fishing gear. After noting the appearance of all three boys, the viewer s eyes are drawn to the fish that the upscale boy is carrying. Meanwhile, the two underdressed boys are both carrying multiple fish of decent size in their hands. It is surprising that the boy with expensive fishing gear only has one small fish. You ve got to hide your love away, can be categorized as (2) sexuality or (8) abstract or poetic image making. The sexuality can be seen within the lyrics and even in the title of the song. Homosexuality is what the song is about when reading the lyrics carefully. Almost like a picture story you can imagine a gay individual who has to had his love and everywhere people stare at hime making the person feel two foot small. After understanding the deep meaning of the song it becomes more personal and beautiful. That is where an abstract and poetic image is made. Many people were not able to attend college due to financial issues. College tuitions can go over $100,000 for a four year college. In result, they find part time jobs to pay their tuitions and spend extra time in college for total of six through seven years instead of four years to achieve their bachelor degree. In addition, many college students take loans and had to pay over $30,000 of debt after attending college (Lobosco). In order to maintain these organizations, the Rebel Groups are faced with the difficult task of recruiting individuals. With limited available resources, the Rebel Groups cannot offer any appealing incentives to their recruits, but require complete loyalty (Vermeij, 2009). They brainwash the boys to believe that becoming a soldier is a way of fighting for something they believe in, and in turn, provide the boys with hope for the future. They motivate the boys by promoting the strongest and bravest as for a goal for the weaker to achieve. The introduction of new rights and responsibilities for the boys, shapes an artificial civilization for the children to grow up in. The norms communicated by the army to each boy, create a strong basis for the development of a new personal biography (Oetting 1999). It is evident in children who have been rescued from these conditions, that they have been more affected by the loss of their family than of their exposure to violence (Kline 2003). Twelve angry men is the story about twelve men who are randomly selected to be on jury of a mysterious murder case. The case starts out with juror number 8 voting guilty. His preconceived opinion of the boy is detrimental to the case at hand, all the while when the boy s life is at stake. However, his prejudice is only one of his shortcomings. Juror number 10 s other fatal flaw is his sense of classism. Due to the fact that the boy was raised in the slums, he automatically thinks that the boy is a thug. He says that there is not one of them who is any good and that they are wild animals who are against them. His generalization with a classicist mind set leads him to believe that all people who are raised in the slums are soon to be hooligans. In addition, his stubbornness to accept the theories of the other jurors only crippled the jury. In conclusion, juror number 10 has the decision to deem the defendant either guilty or not guilty and his classism and prejudice affected his inability to make a fair decision as well as the group s ability deliver a fair verdict by buffering the process of the jury s decision. We have done all of these besides conduct more research. More research needs to be done in order to find out more accurately if these test findings are accurate. I question my findings because the abstracts are both human creations making me wonder why they would go to either or if they had the diet that they do. • 38. Father Diego Dur An Advocate For The Aztecs Of The Aztec... Father Diego Durán was a Dominican priest in Mexico after the Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire. He was born in Selville, Spain in 1537 but moved to New Spain as a child. He originally lived in Texcoco but eventually moved to Mexico City and became a priest in 1556. He became fluent in the native language Nahuatl and gained the inhabitants trust with his understanding nature and respect for their culture. He used his experiences and access to first hand knowledge to write three books, The Ancient Calendar, The History of the Indies of New Spain, and The Book of Gods and Rites, collectively known as the Durán Codex. Durán was an advocate for the Aztecs living in New Spain, but he was still a Catholic priest who saw everything he did through the lense of potential conversion. During his extensive study of the local culture he came to see the parallels between his faith and indigenous religion as evidence of Abrahamic religion having been brought to the New World and corrupted by the Devil. The only way, according to Durán, to truly root out the satanic practices of the Mesoamerican religions was to understand them. He wrote the Durán Codex to both help that missionary work and satisfy his own curiosity. The Book of Gods and Rites was written from 1574 to 1576. Fifty years before that, Hernan Cortez had taken over the Aztec Empire and toppled it s capital city Tenochtitlan. Emily Dickinson Influences Although Emily Dickinson was a complete recluse and was not recognized in her own time, she is now recognized as one of the most influential poets in American Literature. Emily s work has left a strong mark on today s writers. Dickinson began writing as a teenager with influences of her own. Leonard Humphrey, principal of Amherst Academy, and a family friend named Benjamin Franklin Newton, who sent Dickinson a book of poetry by Ralph Waldo Emerson, impacted and encouraged her private works (Emily Dickinson Biography). While Emily s work was brilliant, very little of Dickinson s work was published in her lifetime, nor was it heavily publicized at the time of her death in 1886. While Emily s poetry often hinted at an unknown lover, her preserved letters give a sombre reflection. Until Dickinson was in her mid 20s, her writing mostly took the form of letters. These letters she sent out consist of a surprising number of those that she wrote from age 11 onward that have now been preserved. She often sent to her brother, Austin, or to her own female friends, including Abiah Root, Jane Humphrey, and Susan Gilbert. Susan would later marry Emily s elder brother, Austin. These honorable communications overflow with humour, story telling, intellectual interest, and dark reflection. Throughout her letters, one could infer that Emily Dickinson had given and demanded more from her correspondents than she had received. She frequently construed that her correspondents lack of response as confirmation of abandonment or even disloyalty. Nonetheless, the loss of friends, whether through death or declining interest, became an underlying commodity for Dickinson. Much of Emily s writing, both poetic and the form of letters, seems premised on a feeling of abandonment and a matching attempt to oppose, overcome, or reflect on a sense of loneliness. There are very few letters that remain today. Emily had previously asked that her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Essay on The Pact The Pact Assignment I found it difficult to relate with the book, The Pact, for near the first half of the story. The three boys, Rameck, Sam, and George all grew up in impoverished neighborhoods in New Jersey. They were surrounded by drugs, violence, theft, prejudice, and death. None of the 3 had a father figure within their home while growing up and discovered that it was extremely difficult to find any positive role models within their area. As kids, Sam and Rameck both caved under the peer pressure and became entangled in immoral activity. Rameck had even let adrenaline take over during a fight and stabbed a man in the thigh with a switchblade. As a result he spent 4 days in jail, some time on house arrest, and faced attempted ... Gluten Free Diet And Gluten Food The Gluten free diet, a shitshow Gluten free, it has become the blazing slogan on the majority of food items, including food items that never had gluten to begin with, such as water. This push towards ridding our diets of grains has become extremely mainstream, but is this diet as healthy as it has been made out to be? While there can be some benefits to the gluten free diet, there is a lot of scientific evidence that suggests that products containing gluten are a staple of a healthy diet. Even though a gluten free diet may be medically necessary for some, the gluten free products available on the market are very expensive. Ultimately, the only people who truly benefit from gluten free diets are those who have been diagnosed with celiac disease or non celiac gluten sensitivity. The people who do choose to partake in the gluten free diet who do not have a pre existing medical condition should consult their doctor before altering their diet. Nick is aware of the importance of this event, being formally invited to one of Gatsby s parties, and wants to project the right image.
