Abstract. Supply chains are complex systems with silos of information that are very difficult to
integrate and analyze. The best way to effectively analyze these disparate systems is the use of
Business Intelligence (BI). The ability to make and then to process the right decision at the right
time in collaboration with the right partners is the definition of the successful use of BI. This
chapter discusses the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These networks are expanding to include additional services provided by an increasing number of
partners: customers, the government, financial services organizations, and so forth. Investments in
systems or applications need to take into account the requirements or opportunities enabled by this
increasing interconnectedness.

However, despite the huge investment in SCM software systems, they did not provide desired
Return On Investment (ROI). The main reason is that these systems mostly provide only
transaction based functionality. They lack the sophisticated analytical capabilities required to
provide an integrated view of the supply chain. This is where Business Intelligence (BI) tools like
data warehousing, ETL (Extraction, Transformation, and Loading), data mining, and OLAP (On
Line Analytical Processing) can help adequately analyze operational effectiveness across the supply
chain. 1.1 Supply Chain Performance Measurement
Supply Chain Performance Measurement (SCPM) is vital for a company to survive in today s
competitive business environment. Performance measurement is one of the key aspects of
management. If a company does not have a clear understanding of how well its supply chains are
performing, it will be very hard to manage them successfully.

Integrated Services Digital Network ( Isdn )
Before we get into the discussion, let s briefly introduce some of the technologies used in WANs
and the different characteristics of each one:
Point to point links
A so called point to point link (Fig. 2.0) provides a pre established WAN communication path
from the user s location trough a telephone company s network, also known as the carrier. For this
kind of line, the carrier dedicates pairs of wire and hardware to that line only. This kind of circuits
are priced depending on bandwidth needed and distance to be covered.
(Figure 2.0 Point to point link)
Circuit Switching
Work like a normal telephone line. Data connections can be started when needed and terminated
when the communication is over. An example of circuit switching is called Integrated Services
Digital Network (ISDN). When a router receives data that s intended to go to a specific remote site,
the switched circuit (Fig. 2.1) is initiated with a specific circuit number for that particular network.
As soon the two networks that are trying to connect get the authentication done, it is possible to
transfer data. When data transmission is over, the communication gets terminated.
(Figure 2.1 Switched Circuit)
Packet Switching
Here users share common carrier resources (Fig. 2.2). This is a more cost effective solution
compared for example to point to point lines. The carrier can make more efficient use of its
infrastructure. Connections into the carrier s network are shared between many customers and

The Kyoto Protocol Extension Is Worthwhile
Introduction
In the face of climate change, reducing greenhouse gas emissions is not only a nation s essential
task but also a global duty. Because of poorly regulated emissions, some greenhouse gases will
remain in the Earth s atmosphere for thousands of years. The mitigation of global environmental
emergencies requires uniform international standards and established rules. Therefore, international
policy coordination by multilateral agreement is indispensable. This policy paper aims to discuss
participation in the Kyoto Protocol Extension is worthwhile and what benefits and burdens await
the nation taking part in the efforts towards emissions reduction. Analysis
To begin with, several facts must be considered: (1) policy and economic implications, (2) cost
benefit analysis, and (3) global ethics.
Policy and Economic Implications. The environment is a type of public good, and the market
usually does not adequately protect the common resources which forces global community to bear
the cost of environmental degradation and other negative consequences thus causing dead weight
loss and market failure. This is known as the classic free rider problem and the paradox known as
the tragedy of the commons (Mankiw, 2012, p. 224). Negative externalities associated with the
global climate change are examples of a type of market failure (Gruber, 2013, p.123). It stresses the
need for international intervention and regulation such as environmental policies, environmental
taxes,

Subversion of Class and Gender Roles in Jane Austen s...
Subversion of Class and Gender Roles in Jane Austen s Persuasion
In Jane Austen s Persuasion, Mrs. Croft makes but few appearances and delivers little dialogue.
Nevertheless, Austen gives her significant narrative and thematic importance. Mrs. Croft provides
a foil for several of the Elliots, while developing a commonality with the frequently ostracized
Anne. This bond between Mrs. Croft and Austen s heroine valorizes Mrs. Croft s radical views
concerning feminism and marriage. Beyond signifying a paradigm shift in such social morals,
though, the roles of Admiral and Mrs. Croft allow Austen to subvert the dominant upper class
culture. By exhibiting superior but genuine manners, by demonstrating the complacency ... Show

Because of this clear characterization of Mary, when we hear of Mrs. Croft s mild sea sickness, we
admire her fortitude while recognising Mary s sacrifice.
Mrs. Croft thus differentiates herself from Sir Walter, Elizabeth and Mary. She also redefines
femininity among these acquaintances. Although not conventionally pretty, neither tall nor fat (34),
she has bright dark eyes, good teeth, and altogether an agreeable face (34). According to Anne, then,
an unconventional woman can still be attractive. Furthermore, to describe her weather beaten
complexion (34), Anne gently describes how Mrs. Croft [seems] to have lived some years longer in
the world than her real eight and thirty (35). The emphasis on living in the world, instead of on
aesthetic descriptions like aged or wrinkled, indicates that Anne, (and therefore Austen), values
experience and intellect, more than physical beauty.
Similarly, Mrs. Croft defies conventional notions of domesticity as the female realm. Mr. Shepherd
reveals that, while considering leasing Kellynch Hall, Mrs. Croft asked more questions about the
house, and terms, and taxes, than the Admiral himself (17). Thus, Mrs. Croft manages perfectly
well in financial affairs. Furthermore, Mrs. Croft does not exhibit the female delicacy, as does
Elizabeth, who relies utterly

The Certainty Of Fear Analysis
The Certainty Of Fear
What are your fears? One of my biggest fears in life is failing. It is so hard being in college and
also working two jobs. I rarely get sleep, and It seems like I am always behind on stuff. I am last

The Revolution Of The American Revolution
Every 4th of July, Americans are told the story of the American Revolution. We remember the
oppressed colonists fighting against the tyrannical King George III and the formidable red coats.
Patriotic heroes are remembered, evil kings are cursed, and the liberties and freedoms won from the
war are celebrated. Though America often likes to look back to the revolution, the question of just
how much a revolution was the American Revolutionis rarely asked. While the American
revolution was not as radical of a revolution as we like to remember today, it still changed the
political, social, and ideological aspects substantially of the thirteen colonies. Americans deservedly
have to rite to remember the revolution, regardless to the fact of if there was true reason to start
one, as a true full fledged revolution.
To decide just how much of a revolution the American Revolution was, one has to first explain what
a revolution is. As defined by Princeton University, a revolution
The overthrow of a government by those who are governed
In accordance with this definition, for a protest to considered revolution, the established
government must be overthrown by the people it governs over. The American Revolution easily
fulfills this definition. The British government was overthrown by those it governed, the colonists.
Since this criteria is met, the American Revolution can be considered a technical revolution. But to

Portals And The Unattainable Essay
Cara Krebb s Sehnsucht: Portals to the Unattainable I spent my childhood in a modest white
house in northern Germany. I loved my home. I loved the gleaming stone floor. I loved the
curving staircase, adorned with decorative wrought iron. I loved the narrow hallways. Best of all
was the attic. It was accessed by a small sliding door tucked behind a large wardrobe. It was my
secret place. It was my own world full of wonder and excitement. Fifteen years later, I was riding
a train to Salt Lake City reminiscing about the trains I used to take through Europe. For a
moment my home wasn t so distant. I longed. I ached. I hoped for that place again. Sadly, I
realized even if I were to return, even if I were to prance across that polished stone floor, climb
the twisted stairs, and open the sliding door once more, the attic wouldn t be the same. That
place was partially the physical locale, but mostly the imaginings of an seven year old girl. That
state of naivety of youth and wonder at the mundane could never be reclaimed, yet I still ached
for it. There is a word that Germans use for this immense desire for the unreachable or the
inconsolable longing in the human heart for we know not what; a yearning for a far, familiar, non
earthly, intangible land one can identify as one s home. Sehnsucht. That beautiful familiar word
from my German home greeted me as I walked into an exhibit at the Utah Museum of
Contemporary Art. It was the title of an exhibit located in a far corner of the

In class last week DRM Deese, Roediger, and McDermott s false memory demonstration was

factors could contribute to this. In class, false memory was brought upon by spreading activation.
Some of us felt strongly that sleep belonged with the other words that were closely related to
sleep, such as bed, alarm, etc. It s amazing how we are confident that a false memorythat we
thought, but did not see, is perceived to be an original memory. I remember coming across an
article about how our childhood memories, for the most part, were false. They either resulted from

Burger King Argumentative Analysis
One of the first hamburger chain was born more than 100 years ago. Since then hundreds of burger
chains have prospered; top competitors today are McDonald s, Wendy s, Burger King. And this
argument discusses why Burger King is the best burger chain among those three.
By stating straightforward, Mcdonald s share the most in the hamburger industry. However, Burger
King is much better than McDonald s business wise, taste wise, and charity wise. Burger King
was founded in 1954, and is the second largest hamburger chain in the world. Burger King serves
in 79 countries and every day, more than 11 million people come to Burger King around the world.
Although McDonald s is the largest company with 68 million people visiting everyday and
serving in 119 countries, Burger King is beating McDonald s in business. McDonald s sales are
declining. According to CNN, McDonald s had a 2% drop in sales in July 2015, also they are
planning to close about 500 restaurants in 2016. This means less and less people are going to
McDonald s. Meanwhile, according to the Wall Street Journal, Burger King had 9.6 percent
increase in its sales in April 2015, it also had an 8% increase in July 2015, and 11.2% increase in
October 2015. This statistics mean more and more people are coming to Burger King. Burger
King has been growing non stop since 2012 is the fastest growing company. The reason behind the
growth of Burger King is its advertising tactics. Burger King sells unique burgers, such as

The Differences in Laws and Privacy in the United States...
In Computer Security what are the differences in laws and privacy between United States vs.
European Union? Do the laws that a society have in place deter computer hacking or should we
require to have better systems and technology to prevent such an attacks. In reviewing the US s
Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, and the changes that have been made to improve computer security
in the private sector, to see if these enough to protect our systems from cybercrimes? Will the
addition of the Aaron law to this act going to improve computer security? Is the government just

hacking be handled in the future? I will outline that our government is merely addressing hacking

The Love Of Another Is Not An Original Subject For Poetry
Yearning for the love of another is not an original subject for poetry. However, this age old theme
is expressed through the style of Petrarchan love in the poems Love, that doth reign and live
within my thought and Astrophil and Stella 1. Love, that doth reign and live within my thought,
was written by Henry Howard, Earl of Surrey in the mid sixteenth century (Greenblatt and Logan

relationship with Penelope Devereux (Greenblatt and Logan 491). Henry Howard in his writing of
Love, that doth reign and live within my thought and Sir Philip Sidney in his writing of Astrophil
and Stella 1 collectively express Petrarchan concepts in their poems. Petrarch was a fourteenth
century poet whose writings were heavily influenced by the tradition of courtly love, however;
Petrarch altered the ideal of courtly love by removing the fulfilled meeting of the two lovers leaving
the man with an infinitely unfulfilled love. Henry Howard s and Sir Philip Sidney s situations are
similar in that they are both dealing with a vexing situation that is constructed around their feelings
and expressions of love for a woman. Both poets express these notions in their writings through
their similar uses of meter, situation, and Petrarchan structure.
Love, that doth reign and live within my thought is Henry Howard s version of Petrarch s Rima

Constantine the Great was a solo emperor who fostered the growth of Christianity in the Roman
empire. To begin with, art of the Christian world focused on stylization, stiffness, and the symbolic
(conceptual imagery). There was no interest in the human form or emotions shown through
naturalism and illusionism because the art s main focus was that it had aspects of faith and
spirituality. This was displayed through themes that correlated with the bible, like the death and
resurrection of Christ. Constantine used the Early Christian wall fresco titled Catacomb of St. Peter
and Marcellinus to touch base on themes and symbolism that Christian art resonated with. The
catacombs overall design was painted as a cross, a prominent Christian symbol. The picture in the
middle of the Good Shepherd and Jonah the Whale were prefiguration, stories that foreshadow the
Life of Christ himself. A lot of art, like the one Constantine mentioned above, were principal
narratives of Christ in the new testament of the Bible. Christian architecture utilized spolia, which is
the use of old architectural elements to build something new. To accompany the large scale
Christian architecture, they adapted a new art form, called wall mosaics. There was a sudden
interest in covering huge wall surfaces with images worthy of their monumental framework. These
mosaics to this day are displayed on walls on Catholic churches throughout the United States and
other countries as well. A

Symptoms And Treatment Of Bacterial Resistance Essay
As a surgical Technologist in the Operating room, I have witnessed first hand the destruction and
suffering that bacteria can have on the body. Some infections only cause minor discomfort and
inflammation. Other bacteria such as streptococcus can cause horribly debilitating diseases such
as Necrotizing Fasciitis1. I have also seen that bacterial resistance can play a central role in the
outcome of a patient and their future life. Resistance can even determine if a person lives or dies
from a bacterial infection. This is in no way more present to me than in the life of my grandmother
who, through years of diabetic complications and treatment, is now left with less than a handful of
antibiotics that will work to treat her conditions. Dr. Keiji Fukuda of the World Health Organization

decades can once again kill. 2 With how many people that have infections today, the topic of
antibiotics is of utmost importance. The aim of this paper is to look at the history of antibiotics,
how they work and why they are not working now, and the possibility of better antibiotics in our
future. HistoryAntibiotics themselves are relatively new in the history of health and medicine. In
order to better understand antibiotics we must first understand how we developed them. The germ

Abortion Controversy Essays
The Abortion Issue
Introduction
Abortion has been a very controversial subject over these past few decades. Every time you pick
up a paper or magazine it seems there is always some protest regarding abortion, whether it be for
fetal rights or women s rights. According to the Encyclopaedia Britannica the definition of abortion
is the expulsion of a fetus from the uterus before it has reached the stage of viability (in human
beings, usually about the 20th week of gestation). An abortion may occur spontaneously, in which
case it is also called a miscarriage, or it may be brought on purposefully, in which case it is often
called an induced abortion. This paper will focus only on those abortions which are considered to

Their possibility for a promising future would not be lost due to the fact that they were missing a
hand. Abortion, like ordinary killing, could be justified only by the most compelling reasons
(Marquis, p. 400). The biggest problem with this issue is where to draw the line between severe
and bearable pain and disability. What one person might consider not worth living with may be
very different from another person s definition. What ends up happening is the development of a
slippery slope between permissible and not permissible abortions based on disabilities. There will
always be disagreements on which disabilities could be considered to have an impact on a person
having a good future.
Many people opposed to abortion rely on the fact that the fetus is a human being from the
moment that they are conceived. At that moment a unique DNA is created and they argue that
God places a human soul in that just fertilized Ovum (Robinson, p.1). This has seemed to be a
continuing debate between both sides. Pro life activists disagree with the argument that a fetal
life becomes a person only when electrical activity begins in the cerebral cortex. They argue that
at the time of conception all major decisions as to what that fetus will become have been
determined. For example, whether it will be male of female, what height it will be, what build it
will be, and what colour it s

The Ethical Decision Making Process
Ethical Decision Making Process Ayva Rodriguez Felician College NURS 380 Elizabeth
Stallings RN, MA, DMH January 22, 2015 Abstract Nurses often encountered various ethical
dilemmas in the practice setting. Both virtue ethics and caring ethics support good ethical
decision making for nurses (Park, 2012, p. 149) but these are inadequate to assist in solving an
ethical dilemma (Park, 2012, p. 149). For that reason an ethical decision making tool is helpful
for the nurses or clinicians to come up with an ethical decision (Kelly, 2012, p. 571) that allows
them to gather information, identify any gap of understanding on the issue or the disagreements
between the involved parties through a clear communication (Park, 2012, p. 140). Several
authors presented an ethical decision making processes (Park, 2012, p. 141), here presented the
two processes that can be applied in resolving an ethical dilemma. One example of ethical
decision making process is the DECIDE model by Thompson, Melia Boyd (Allen, Chapman,
Francis, O Connor, 2008, p. 5) and the Integrated ethical decision making model which was
derived from the combination of the different ethical decision making models strengths (Park,
2012, p. 140). These two ethical decision making model steps are identical to each but differ on the
detailed instruction on how the steps are to be done or used in actual case. By comparing the two
models the integrated ethical decision making model have a detailed instruction. The

Leadership can be an emotional process. It requires a lot of dedication and sacrifice to

A holistic approach An important distinction needs to be made when dealing with creativity in
schools, that is the difference between teaching creatively and teaching for creativity. Teaching
creatively refers to teachers using imaginative approaches to make learning more interesting,
exciting and effective. (NACCCE Report, 1999: 102). Teachers often need to be highly creative
in order to capture learners interest and attention. Teaching for creativity refers to forms of
teaching that are intended to develop young people s own creative thinking or behaviour.
(NACCCE Report, 1999: 103). The way I see it, teaching creatively is a tool in the hands of the
teacher who wants to make any learning experience meaningful, creative teaching as a means to
better teaching, whereas teaching for creativity implies the inclusion of creativity as a learning
objective in teacher s planning of lesson material. Teaching for creativity must acknowledge a multi
faceted approach to creativity, an approach that takes into account all the aspects of creativity where
education is concerned (Prentice, 2000) 3.
Creativity may be considered as one of the most important targets that education should aim for.
When a teacher aims to stimulate learners creativity, this can be fostered in a variety of ways,
amongst which there is the strategy of regarding students as active consumers of

Essay On The Imitation Game
The movie titled The Imitation Game directed by Morten Tyldum is based on the true story of
Alan Mathison Turing. This particular movie was inspired by the biographical book, Alan Turing:
The Enigma written by Andrew Hodges. Alan Turing was a mathematician, cryptanalysis, and a
well known war hero. In 1952, he worked at Bletchley Park, Britain s code breaking center, during
the Second World War. Subsequently, he cracked the Enigma, which is an electro mechanical
rotor cipher machine that generates a new code every 24 hours, used by Nazi Germany. A year
later, he also cracked Germany s Naval Enigma, which was an even more complicated design than
the Enigma. This shortened the period of the war by two years, which in turn, saved millions...

He cracked the Enigma s codes by using a code deciphering machine called Bombe . The film was
moderately accurate as there were a few exaggerated points and errors such as what the machine
was called. Despite the flaws, this film was a good one. Turing is seen as a war hero even up to this
day. Turing has impacted the world on a large scale as if it was not for him discovering the
concept of computer science, our technology would not have been as advanced as it is

Baby Sea Turtle Rhetorical Analysis
Energy production waste is one of the leading causes of ocean pollution. Marine life extinction
has been very prevalent in the public eye in recent years. One of the animals most in danger of
extinction is the sea turtle. Images of a baby sea turtle walking into the ocean near a power plant
would have been seen as a death sentence in the past. This ad use of pathos appeals to people
sense of emotion by showing them images of cute baby seaturtles, and successfully encourages
them to believe that nuclear waste is a cleaner alternative than traditional coal energy.
This advertisement features an image of a baby sea turtle headed for the sea. In the description of
the ad it talks about how this baby sea turtle can exist next to a nuclear power plant because this
power plant creates no waste. It goes on to talk about how much safer nuclear energy is compared
to traditional coal. It shows how modern technology, such as electricity, can coexist with nature
peacefully without harming one another. It also encourages readers to send in for more
information on the subject to become more well informed. The image of the baby turtle catches the
reader s eye, but the description of it living peacefully with the power plant encourages readers to
support nuclear energy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

only some facts about the amount of waste used by nuclear power plants compared to traditional

the environment. All three appeals work together to create a very convincing argument for nuclear

A Very Brief Look at Ireland
An old myth claims that St.Patrick used his to scare all the snakes into sea. Therefore, there are
no snakes in Ireland. Ireland gained it s independence from Great Britain in 1937. The head of
Ireland is still under Britain s command. Before Ireland became a country, Ireland was covered in
ice and snow, during the the Last Glacial Maximum. The Last Glacial Maximum is the era when
ice covered northern Europe, Asia, and America, which was about 20,000 years ago. Irelandis the
sixth richest country in the world, which is surprising because it is mostly farm land.
Around 600 and 800 B.C. Celtic tribes began to settle on Ireland. Around the 12th century Britain
took the Irish s independence. During the potato famine, in the 1840s, farmers dug up potatoes
then a day after the potatoes became slimy, blackish, mass of rottenness . About 1 1/4 million Irish
left their homes. They took ships Canada and America hoping for a better life.
On 1916, Easter Monday, Ireland started a Rebellion. The IRA , Irish Republican Army, fought
Britain for five years to win independence for 26 southern counties. The other 6 counties are still
under Britain s control. This lead to the Troubles in the 1960 s which were acts of violence on the
United Kingdom Army. The United Kingdom, United States, and Ireland was a part of a process
that helped traders and sellers which is know as The Good Friday Agreement in 1988, in Northern
Ireland. In 1990, Mary Robinson changed Ireland s history by

Studying Diet, Immunization, and Infection of Our Ancestors
The Ted X Talk, Tracking ancient diseases using...plaque, with Christina Warinner as the speaker
focused on explaining one innovative way to move past the challenges associated with studying
diet, infection and immunity of our ancestors. Warinner is an archaeological geneticist at the Center
for Evolutionary Medicine at the University of Zurich. She studies how humans co evolved with
their environment, diets and diseaseby looking at the skeletal and mummified remains of ancient
humans. In her Ted X Talk given in Long Beach, California in March 2012 she provided
explanations for the difficulties researchers are faced with, the description of the new
implementation of Warinner and her team and the results that were found, Warinner shares with
others how the evolutionary history of health and human disease is being investigated.
To properly study the pathogens of the past, Warinner explained the different ways this is possible.
The first is by extracting human DNA from ancient bones to recreate the human genome. With this
process the goal is to highlight changes that result from risk factors, adaptations and inherited
diseases. She then stated, The most important health challenges today are not caused by simple
mutations in our genome, but rather result from a complex and dynamic interplay between genetic
variation, diet, microbes and parasites and our immune response (Warinner). Because we live in a
completely different environment today than the environment where our bodies

designed the sets for Trinity Repertory Theater in Providence, since the 1960 s. Many of Lee s
coworkers, describe him as a dedicated, imaginative designer. Lee seemingly never repeats a set,
when you step into one of his sets you are transported to somewhere else. Richard Jenkins (a
former actor at Trinity) recalls a time when, Lee went out on the stage during an intermission

jobs all over. Lee has never sent out a resume and he doesn t even have a PR person, being so well

Ssg Arroa s Squad At Fort Indiantown Gap
SSG Arroa s squad moved cautiously down the path that the Sergeant had marked to the main
gate at Fort Indiantown Gap. The rest of the first platoon had held back as well as the company
to provide cover for the advancing squad. SSG Arroa had cleared about a hundred yards past the
main gain without any problems. They encountered no resistance, but several booby traps, which
they disabled. Their orders were that once they were able to breach the main gate, they were to
begin to remove the barricades, which consisted of everything but the kitchen sink, several cars
that had been pushed into the front of the gate, chairs, benches, large rocks, mounds of dirt, and a
couple of desks. SSG Arroa sent Corporal Reyes to his PlatoonSergeantand told him to send more
men to help clear the barricade. There was no way he could provide security for him and his
men as well as move everything out of the way. SFC Dittmyer was the Platoon Sergeant; the man
was not a great thinker and a very poor leader. He had decided to send one more squad to help
SSG Arroa; why the entire platoon didn t move was lost on SSG Arroa. Once they had cleared
the gate everyone was supposed to move through it so why wait. However, SSG Arroa knew it
wasn t his job to wonder why the Army did things. His job was to execute his orders to the best of
his ability. Second Squad led by SSG Dane moved out of their position in the woods running toward
the main gate, down the path and meeting up with first squad.

American Beauty
American Beauty A Sociological Movie Review American Beauty, a film that was written by
Allan Ball and directed by Sam Mendes in 1999 is a unique piece that demonstrates many
sociological themes throughout the development of the plot. The characters strive to portray
themselves as the All American Family. They live in a nice house, drive nice cars and seem
perfectly normal to the general public, but the audience is allowed to view the deep set issues that
plague the main characters; Lester Burnham (Kevin Spacey), Carolyn Burnham (Annette Bening),
Jane Burnham (Thora Birch), and Jane s best friend Angela Hayes (Mena Suvari). As the plot
develops there are many obvious parallels relating the lives of the characters to Merton s Strain...

During the course of the film, Lester Burnham goes through a large change. When we first meet
Lester he is living his life as a ritualist. He goes to work every day because that is what he is
supposed to do, but he puts in little to no effort and he has little regard for the completion of his
goals. He has no motivation. His marriage is failing and he has an empty relationship with his
daughter. Lester says both my wife and daughter think I m this gigantic loser, and they re right, I
have lost something. I m not exactly sure what it is, but I know I didn t always feel
thisВ…sedated. But you know what; it s never too late to get it back (American Beauty). From
this statement we can see that there is going to be a change in Lester over the course of the
movie. When he meets Jane s friend Angela we can see an immediate change in Lester. He lusts
for her constantly and his life becomes consumed by trying to spend time with her and help her
to be attracted to him. He suddenly becomes more enthusiastic about life. He describes this as
feeling that he had been in a coma for twenty years and he is finally waking up. After this Lester
completely alters his lifestyle. He leaves his job, begins to work out everyday, buys his dream car
and starts smoking pot with Ricky Fitz. Before he met Angela, Carolyn was in charge of everything

Triggered by the Stock Market Crash of 1929 and compounded by the drought that created the Dust

they react toward different situations and different people. Therefore, there is little in the way of a
plot. A couple of key situations do provide indirect characterization and highlight the hardships
people suffered during the depression.
A corpse is found by Doc and it reminds him of his deceased love, bringing back painful
memories This shows the negative side of the world and society s cruelties. Doc is handling of the
situation suggests that in Cannery Row, no problem is too major to deal with. Another character
was named Hazel because in his family the name was considered lucky with regard to wealth. This
underscores how interested everyone was in increasing wealth.
Cannery Row also includes realistic details that give readers a good seuse of what daily life was
like during the Great Depression. Frog collecting was a profit making activity, with each frog five
cents. A nickel was not to be ignored at that time in our history although today one hardly bothers
to pick them up off the sidewalk. The first satisfactory car, the Model T, is noted to be a fine
vehicle even though it broke down, forcing the driver and passengers to camp out. Today, cars are
much more reliable and advanced and have many unnecessary features that the Model T did not
have.

Metacognition and Transfer of Learning
Suppose that a student learns a mathematical procedure such as how to find the area of a

In contrast, backward reaching transfer occurs when one is faced with a problem and looks back
on what he or she has learned in other situations to help in this new situation.
Factors that contribute to transfer of learning
Initial Learning
Without an adequate level of initial learning, transfer cannot be expected (Mestre, 2002). The
importance of initial learning was illustrated by a series of studies designed to access the effects of
learning to program in the computer language LOGO. When initial learning was accessed, it was
found that students often had not learned enough about LOGO to provide a basis for transfer
(Bransford, Brown, and Cocking, 1999). Many studies that have failed to produce transfer have
resulted from insufficient opportunities for students to learn efficiently in the first place (Mestre,
2002). Understanding
Transfer is also affected by the degree to which people learn with understanding rather than merely
memorizing. Judd s classic studies of learning to throw darts at underwater targets would be a
perfect exampled of how understanding is positively correlated with transfer. In sum, Judd s studies
demonstrated the value of learning with understanding rather than simply mimicking a set of fixed
procedures (Bransford

Income Statement An income statement is a financial statement that measures a company s
financial performance over a specific accounting period. Financial performance is assessed by
giving a summary of how the business incurs its revenues and expenses through both operating and
non operating activities. The purpose of the income statement is to show managers and investors
whether the company made or lost money during the period being reported. From the income
statement we can do a ratio analysis of the company. Below are ratios relevant to Coca Cola.
Ratio Analysis
The price to earnings share ratio is a valuation ratio of a company s current share price compared to
its per share earnings. For example, if a company is currently trading at $43 a share and earnings
over the last 12 months were $1.95 per share, the P/E ratio for the stock would be 22.05 ($43
/$1.95). (Investopedia, 2011)
The P/E ratio for Coca Cola is 12.39. (Yahoo Finance, 2011) This ratio indicates that the company s

Pros Of Leasing
In the vast majority of situations here in the United States, I recommend leasing over any other
ways to finance and drive a car.
This might surprise you.
Because we have been brainwashed that leasing is a fool s way to drive a car.
But when we exploit the benefits of leasing (and avoid the common traps), we are able to drive a
lot more car for a lot less money over our lifetime.
*** We all know leasing is confusing
Leasing is meant to seem complicated.
This is done on purpose, because it tricks (most) people into making poor financial choices. And
these bad decisions puts more profit into the dealer s bank account.
But when we exploit leasing in our favor, it is almost always cheaper than any other form of
financing a new car.

I am about to share with you the big loophole of new car leasing.
Ready?
Here it is...
It is a secret that most people do not know about.
It is the secret that gets most people thinking leasing has mileage and damage penalties.
But the secret is this:
The legal loophole around paying for end of lease penalties is to get the dealership to buy our car
back from us (instead of turning it in).
Let me repeat this, because it is the secret to get more car for less money.
At any time during a lease, we can sell our leased car to any dealership on the planet. It does not
matter if we sell a leased Toyota to a BMW dealership or a leased Audi to a Honda dealership.
Because as soon as we sell the car to the dealership, the lease company gets paid off and cannot
charge us for end of lease extras.
This is known as a early lease buyout .
It is the cost that anyone can buy the car for. And it is calculated at the same time we sign the lease
paperwork.
Even better, some dealerships will offer us more for our leased car than the early lease buyout.
Why? Because they can flip our leased car and sell it used on their lot for a ton of profit. (More on

The newly appointed CEO, Scott Livengood, realized the problem with the sluggish sales was
because of the company s current strategy.
After becoming CEO, president, and chairman of the board in 1999, the company repositioned and
focused on being a specialty retailer rather than a wholesale bakery. Krispy Kreme wanted to give
their customers the hot doughnut experience they all knew and loved (Peter Donnelly, 2011). The
second part of their plan was to increase the number of stores both franchises, and company
owned nationally. The company began to move into other regions. For example, in 1996 the first
store in NY City was opened, and in 1999 the first store in California opened. In early 2000, the
company went public and merged into a new company called Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc.,
instead of Krispy Kreme Doughnut Corporation. From 2000 2004, the number of stores has
proliferated from 144 to 357 and Krispy Kreme is now beginning to open in international locations,
opening the first factory in London. They now also have locations in Canada, Mexico, and Australia.
SITUATION ANALYSIS
MARKET SUMMARY:
Krispy Kreme focuses on opening their stores in large, populated cities in the United States such as
Denver, Colorado, Rochester, New York, Medford, and Massachusetts. In 2000 2004 the company
has focused on opening numerous locations, and expanding into Europe with plans of

Similarities Between Jefferson Memorial And Pantheon
There are many similarities and differences between the Roman architecture and the Renaissance
architecture. The similarities between the Pantheon and St Peters Basilica are that they contain a
circular domed rotunda. They both contain Corinthian columns with a triangular pediment above.
They also both have a portico. Inside, both the building has several niches 9 . Both building have a
symmetrical layout. There have many architectural features that are very similar as Michelangelo,
one of the architects of St. Peters Basilica, studied the Pantheon before making designs 6 ; he
based the St Peters Basilica dome from the Pantheons dome. Both building reflected their societies
wealth and symbolizes religion as both were used to honour gods.... Show more content on

The similarities in the architectural features are that they both have a spherical dome. They both
have steps leading up to the portico. Both buildings also have a pediment held up by the columns.
Both the structures are symmetrical and have 8 columns at the front. They have many similarities
as the Pantheon influenced Thomas Jefferson to make a similar structure, and because of the
common dome both the structures symbolized unity, and power. The difference is that the columns
of the Pantheon were Corinthian style columns in contrast to the Ionic style columns of the
Jefferson Memorial. The cella of the Jefferson memorial is open with columns as walls all around
the rotunda. They were also used for different purposes, the Pantheon is a temple and the Jefferson
Memorial is a memorial. However, just like how the dome represented the unity and symmetry of
the Roman Empire, it also symbolizes the democracy that has grown in America through unity.
There are many various features of Roman architecture that are evident in the Virginia State Capitol
Building and the Jefferson Memorial. Thomas Jefferson was influenced by both the Pantheon and
Maison Carree. Features like the symmetrical proportions of the buildings like the dome showed
continuity, this reflected on the glory of your society and the achievements they have
accomplished, as the imperial Rome was very successful. Most of the Roman structures also
symbolized power as the Roman valued this very much. America also values power so they may

The State Of Sexual Harassment
Cates, S., Machin, L. (2012). The State of Sexual Harassment in America: What is the Status of
Sexual Harassment in the US Workplace Today? Journal of Global Business Management, 8(1),
133 138.
Unwanted sexual advances are inappropriate whether or not an individual is at work. This article
speaks to the minds of people who have been sexually harassed at work in the 2000s. When written,
the article explained that in the last two years sexual harassment in the workplace had actually
increased. It also explains the difference between a minor incident that may involve an
inappropriate comment and many inappropriate comments that may begin affecting workmanship.
Previous articles have stated most of the time sexual harassment is based upon leadership and
masculinity, but Cates and Machin state there is no reason behind it. According to the article, there
are many types of sexual harassment: verbal/written, physical, nonverbal (inappropriate staring),
severe/pervasive (attempted rape). These are split, according to the EEOC (Equal Employment
Opportunity Commission) into two factions, quid pro quo and hostile. The consequences of these
actions need to be enforced by not only termination, but possible convictions, as well.

The History Of The World Wide Web
The history of the World Wide Web was created on August 6th, 1991 by Tim Berners Lee.
(Bryant, 2012). Due to the creation of the World Wide Web, many things have changed. Websites
have made everything either easier or more complicated. But, we will talk about the easier this
world has gotten. Some websites that have made life easier are Facebook, Strayer University,
Amazon, EBay, Google, Gmail, Yahoo, PayPal, Walmart, Schwan s, Myspace
, Pogo, Trip Advisor,
and Home Chef. These are just to name a few of the websites that have made our lives easier.
I could not agree more, that technology is like the Devil to many households making parents
divorce due to lack of person to person communication, and it makes partners want to have
infidelities in their relationships. But, nonetheless, websites like the ones I listed above are to make
our lives easier.
We will start with Social Networking sites. Social Networking sites, like Facebook, and
Myspace, are to bring people closer to each other from distances away. I have known of many
relatives finding each other after many years of not knowing each other, due to adoption and
other circumstances. They always help connect business to the users. You will always see ads
on the sides of Facebook while playing a game, if it is not full screen, of business that you might
like. Social Networking can be the cause of distraction with family as well. There was a report of a
lady playing Farmville, a very popular game on Facebook and it used to

Jurassic Park Quotes
Hammond states this to Dr. Wu in the chapter, Bungalow. In this quote Hammond refuses to face
the reality of how unsafe his park is, even though countless amount of evidence is set in front him.
Not to mention he also refuses to believe that the dinosaurs have found a way to breed despite of
the scientists precautions. Between his stubbornness and old age we observe that Hammond is
actually out of his mind. Later on, after the island is in pieces and most of the staff is dead,
Hammond still believes that he still/should build another Jurassic Park. Though in the beginning
the novel vilified Nerdy, Hammond emerges as the real villain of the story with his abuse of the
scientific power. This quote helps you understand who the real protagonist and real antagonist are.

Knowledge, an example would be Grant s knowledge that helped save himself and others from the

Grant injects several eggs. Due to his knowledge, he managed to get two out of three of the
dinosaurs. Furthermore, another theme in the novel would be greed. Though Hammond s park is
shattered into pieces, he still believes that he should build another park. Not only that, but he
believes that greed is good . Science, science is one of the biggest themes in the novel. For

Midterm The Problem Companies expect their employees to do good work efficiently. When
issues arise from within the work environment, it prevents productivity and work satisfaction
amongst employees. At the organization I am a part of it is considered a helping profession and
people either do work in the office or out in the field by providing services. However, when you
need to get something done, people do not seem to accomplish tasks at work because of the lack of
support or the distractions that occur. There are three main issues that occur in my job, surrounding
the lack of efficient communication, guidance and expectations of managers, and scheduling
conflicts. Through analyzing these issues a specific job may be created to help solve these
problems that affect this work environment. I am a behavioral therapist for children who are
diagnosed with autism and related disorders at a small firm in Anaheim, California. Most clinical
work is provided by in home therapy for the convenience and generalization for children and their
families. In every case, there is a manager and a parent consult provided along with the therapist.
Managers have a great influence in making a better work and team environment. Supervisors and
parent consultants overlap with the therapist about once or twice a month depending on the child s
need and funding. Therefore, it is essential to have adequate communication between management
for successful work outcomes. There is not an issue with

Ratio Analysis Report
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The purpose of the following report is to aid Over the Hill Pty Ltd in planning the direction that the
company may want to go over the next few years. The report entails a financial analysis and
summaries, which will give the executive board an understanding of how well the current managing
director is performing, and whether his contract should be renewed.
Figures were obtained from comparative balance sheets and profit and loss statements from the
relevant years as well as additional information that was forwarded by the board. This information
enabled the development of percentage and ratio analysis (see appendices), which was then used to
create the report.
The investigation revealed that the company had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The receivables turnover has significantly decreased over the three year period and has indicated
an improvement in the crediting procedures that have been developed within the company. The
average collection period has decreased significantly to an average of 42 days, which enables the
company to use this money within the business at an earlier stage.
Poor sales and lower inventory balances in 2001 contributed to the inventory turnover dropping to
almost 3 times a year. This improved slightly in 2002 as sales picked up within the business. This
does affect the liquidity but does not have a real damaging effect to the products sold due to the
nature of the business (antiques).
The liquidity ratios do indicate that Over the Hill Pty Ltd is in a stable position and is a
reasonably liquid business. This would need to be carefully observed over time tough to guarantee
the short term obligations of the business.
SOLVENCY
The debt and Equity ratios are valuable tools used to indicate asset protection and therefore the long
term stability of the company. Over the Hill Pty Ltd had a strong long term position in 2000 due to
the smaller amount of liabilities it had. As these liabilities have grown, the assets have fluctuated
slightly but have not increased much in the three year

National Alliance On Mental Illnesses
There are many organizations that have a huge impact on society, the one I chose to write about is
the National Alliance on Mental Illness, also referred to as NAMI. NAMI is the most popular
mental health organization. Members of this organization work hard to better the lives of those
affected by mental illnesses. The National Alliance on Mental Health has four priorities, those are
educating, advocating, listening, and leading. Mental health is a growing topic that is hard to
ignore, this is because organizations like the NAMI have offered many educational tools in hopes
of teaching society what mental illnesses are and how to help people struggling with mental
illnesses. This organization advocates for others suffering mental illnesses,... Show more content on

The NAMI has shown society how serious mental illnesses are, if one of these many illnesses is
left untreated it can lead to even more serious things. Anxiety and Depression are a deadly
combination and unfortunately, 20% of the teen population experiences and over 25 million
Americans experience it every year. Both of these mental illnesses are hard to handle and often
end in suicide, 90% of people who commit suicide have a mental disorder and 50% of these
suicides are caused by depression. Every day around 121 people kill themselves and with society
s help, we can end this. Also, both of these mental illnesses can lead to eating disorders and other
serious health issues. Once everyone realizes how serious mental illnesses are, the more help these

Symbolism In Palanquin Bearers
Alagu Subramaniam was a novelist who belonged to the Tamil community of Sri Lanka. He was
one of the founders and editors of the literary magazine Indian Writing. Professional Mourners is a
short story which revolves around caste based discrimination, throwing light on various themes
such as celebration of socio economic power, social practices, dehumanization of the less privileged
and the like.
Professional Mourning is a line of work, usually taken up by women belonging to the lower caste in
the society. The upper caste hire¬ these professional mourners to mourn at the funeral of a
deceased member in the family, with the sole intention of flaunting their wealth and power in the
society. In India, these women are referred to as rudaali which translates to female weeper . It is a
social practice which although seems quite irrelevant in today s world still takes place in certain
parts of India. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

manipulated by the rich members of the society. Although they were brainwashed into thinking that
they were privileged to be doing their job, they were unaware that they were being exploited. The
professional mourners on the other hand, face exploitation on a more one to one basis, to the point
where they re literally dragged around if they retaliate even in the slightest manner. Caste based
discrimination in India continues to dominate in marriage, employment and even in general
social settings. Millions of people face violence and oppression in nearly every aspect of their
life, merely because of their caste. People are deprived of basic necessities and opportunities, and
are subject to the most degrading and inhumane levels of exploitation due to the oppressive effects

William Blake Exaggeration
William Blake and William Wordsworth both write about London in their poems. Composed Upon
Westminster bridge and London both portray London differently during the industrial revolution.
Blake writes about the negative aspects of London while Wordsworth on the other hand writes
about the positive aspects of London. Although these poems portray London differently, they do so
by the use of similar methods. The methods they use to portray London are exaggeration, use of the
five senses, and personification.
Both William Blake and William Wordsworth use exaggeration to describe London during the
industrial revolution. In London , William blake uses exaggeration to illustrate the negative
aspects of London during the industrial revolution. On the other hand, Wordsworth uses
exaggeration in his poem to illustrate the positive aspects of London during the industrial
revolution to illustrate the negative aspects of London blake uses exaggeration in lines eleven
through twelve in his poem; And the hapless soldier s sigh runs in blood down palace walls (11
12). In this line William Blake is exaggerating the soldier s sigh because it didn t really run in
blood down the palace walls. In order illustrate the positive aspects of London during industrial
revolution; wordsworth uses exaggeration in the opening line of his poem. Earth has not anything
to show more fair (1). In this line blake uses exaggeration to illustrate how captivated he is at the
sunrise.
This proves my point because through the use of exaggeration William Blake and William
Wordsworth were able to show london in two different perspectives.
Blake uses the five senses to help the reader picture how filthy London is in his poem.
Wordsworth on the other hand, uses the five senses to help the reader picture how beautiful
London is in his poem. In order to help his audience comprehend how filthy london is, william
blake uses some of the five senses. He illustrates this well through the use of hearing. A strong
example of this can be found in line thirteen: But most, through midnight streets I hear (13). Sound
really makes a difference in our lives and he uses that to paint a clearer picture of how he perceives
London. William Wordsworth uses the

His four legs stand more relaxed than those of the centaur to his right, who lunges forward
towards a human enemy. This centaur differs from the first in that he faces away from the
viewer; his bare back is exposed, and in his right hand he grasps the front of the spear. However,
his left arm is open, exposing the palm of his left hand. The third centaur is bearded and is
shown in profile. Facing the humans to his left, he stands on his hind legs, recoils in defense, and
holds his spear behind his head with both hands. His left hand grasps the front of the spear, and
his right hand grasps the back of the spear. To his right there is a small insect like figure, with two
sets of wing pairs protruding from its upper section and legs jutting from its lower section.
Of the human figures, the first is male and faces the two centaurs to the left of the viewer. Also
lunging forward, he plants his front foot as the heel of his back foot rises. His hair is shorter than
that of the centaurs, and he holds the Boeotian variation of the hoplite shield that covers his mouth
and chin. This shield is decorated with the outline of a turtle. The restored condition of the body
leaves his clothing, or lack thereof, indistinguishable. It is also hard to discern whether he or the
character to his right is holding a sword, which is short and points downward. The next figure, also

Theme Of Allusion In Grass And English Con Salsa
History and Allusion in grass and English con salsa According to Kennedy and Dana, an allusion
is where a person, place or thing is referred to indirectly, either by text or as an illustration
(Kennedy and Dana 408). When allusions are used in a poem, it is assumed that the poet and the
reader share a common body of knowledge. The poems grass by Carl Sandburg and English con
salsa by Gina ValdГЁs are both similar in the sense that they both employ allusions in their
narratives. Furthermore, the allusions in these poems discusses history and reflecting on the role of
a person in history. The poem grass has five allusions which are Austerlitz, Waterloo, Gettysburg,
Ypres, and Verdun. On the other hand, English con salsa alludes to Xochicalco, Tuxpan River,
Benito Juarez, George Washington, Donald Duck, Batman, Teocaltiche, UruapГn, Oaxacan,
JuchitГ n, Zapotec, Nahuatl, Santa Tristeza, Santa Alegria, Santo Todolopuede, Lake PГtzcuaro,
Jalisco, Santee, and La Jolla. Interestingly, both poems discuss renowned history through the
illusions. In grass, line 1 in the first stanza states that Pile the bodies high at Austerlitz and Waterloo
(Sandburg 126). The use of the word Austerlitz points out to the historic Battle of Austerlitz.
Historically, the Battle of Austerlitz occurred in 1805 involving armies from French, Austria, and
Russia. There was a high number of casualties in the battle, which the phrase discusses by stating
pile the bodies high (Sandburg 126). Similarly,

  • 2. Supply Chain Business Intelligence Technologies, Issues... Supply Chain Business Intelligence: Technologies, Issues and Trends Nenad Stefanovic1 and Dusan Stefanovic2 Zastava Automobiles, Information Systems Department, Kragujevac, Serbia nenad@automobili.zastava.net, www.zastava automobili.com 2 Faculty of Science, University of Kragujevac, Serbia dusans@kg.ac.yu, www.pmf.kg.ac.yu 1 Abstract. Supply chains are complex systems with silos of information that are very difficult to integrate and analyze. The best way to effectively analyze these disparate systems is the use of Business Intelligence (BI). The ability to make and then to process the right decision at the right time in collaboration with the right partners is the definition of the successful use of BI. This chapter discusses the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These networks are expanding to include additional services provided by an increasing number of partners: customers, the government, financial services organizations, and so forth. Investments in systems or applications need to take into account the requirements or opportunities enabled by this increasing interconnectedness. Fig. 2. The Supply Neitwork However, despite the huge investment in SCM software systems, they did not provide desired Return On Investment (ROI). The main reason is that these systems mostly provide only transaction based functionality. They lack the sophisticated analytical capabilities required to provide an integrated view of the supply chain. This is where Business Intelligence (BI) tools like data warehousing, ETL (Extraction, Transformation, and Loading), data mining, and OLAP (On Line Analytical Processing) can help adequately analyze operational effectiveness across the supply chain. 1.1 Supply Chain Performance Measurement Supply Chain Performance Measurement (SCPM) is vital for a company to survive in today s competitive business environment. Performance measurement is one of the key aspects of management. If a company does not have a clear understanding of how well its supply chains are performing, it will be very hard to manage them successfully. 220 N. Stefanovic and D. • 3. Integrated Services Digital Network ( Isdn ) Before we get into the discussion, let s briefly introduce some of the technologies used in WANs and the different characteristics of each one: Point to point links A so called point to point link (Fig. 2.0) provides a pre established WAN communication path from the user s location trough a telephone company s network, also known as the carrier. For this kind of line, the carrier dedicates pairs of wire and hardware to that line only. This kind of circuits are priced depending on bandwidth needed and distance to be covered. (Figure 2.0 Point to point link) Circuit Switching Work like a normal telephone line. Data connections can be started when needed and terminated when the communication is over. An example of circuit switching is called Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN). When a router receives data that s intended to go to a specific remote site, the switched circuit (Fig. 2.1) is initiated with a specific circuit number for that particular network. As soon the two networks that are trying to connect get the authentication done, it is possible to transfer data. When data transmission is over, the communication gets terminated. (Figure 2.1 Switched Circuit) Packet Switching Here users share common carrier resources (Fig. 2.2). This is a more cost effective solution compared for example to point to point lines. The carrier can make more efficient use of its infrastructure. Connections into the carrier s network are shared between many customers and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Kyoto Protocol Extension Is Worthwhile Introduction In the face of climate change, reducing greenhouse gas emissions is not only a nation s essential task but also a global duty. Because of poorly regulated emissions, some greenhouse gases will remain in the Earth s atmosphere for thousands of years. The mitigation of global environmental emergencies requires uniform international standards and established rules. Therefore, international policy coordination by multilateral agreement is indispensable. This policy paper aims to discuss participation in the Kyoto Protocol Extension is worthwhile and what benefits and burdens await the nation taking part in the efforts towards emissions reduction. Analysis To begin with, several facts must be considered: (1) policy and economic implications, (2) cost benefit analysis, and (3) global ethics. Policy and Economic Implications. The environment is a type of public good, and the market usually does not adequately protect the common resources which forces global community to bear the cost of environmental degradation and other negative consequences thus causing dead weight loss and market failure. This is known as the classic free rider problem and the paradox known as the tragedy of the commons (Mankiw, 2012, p. 224). Negative externalities associated with the global climate change are examples of a type of market failure (Gruber, 2013, p.123). It stresses the need for international intervention and regulation such as environmental policies, environmental taxes, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Subversion of Class and Gender Roles in Jane Austen s... Subversion of Class and Gender Roles in Jane Austen s Persuasion In Jane Austen s Persuasion, Mrs. Croft makes but few appearances and delivers little dialogue. Nevertheless, Austen gives her significant narrative and thematic importance. Mrs. Croft provides a foil for several of the Elliots, while developing a commonality with the frequently ostracized Anne. This bond between Mrs. Croft and Austen s heroine valorizes Mrs. Croft s radical views concerning feminism and marriage. Beyond signifying a paradigm shift in such social morals, though, the roles of Admiral and Mrs. Croft allow Austen to subvert the dominant upper class culture. By exhibiting superior but genuine manners, by demonstrating the complacency ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because of this clear characterization of Mary, when we hear of Mrs. Croft s mild sea sickness, we admire her fortitude while recognising Mary s sacrifice. Mrs. Croft thus differentiates herself from Sir Walter, Elizabeth and Mary. She also redefines femininity among these acquaintances. Although not conventionally pretty, neither tall nor fat (34), she has bright dark eyes, good teeth, and altogether an agreeable face (34). According to Anne, then, an unconventional woman can still be attractive. Furthermore, to describe her weather beaten complexion (34), Anne gently describes how Mrs. Croft [seems] to have lived some years longer in the world than her real eight and thirty (35). The emphasis on living in the world, instead of on aesthetic descriptions like aged or wrinkled, indicates that Anne, (and therefore Austen), values experience and intellect, more than physical beauty. Similarly, Mrs. Croft defies conventional notions of domesticity as the female realm. Mr. Shepherd reveals that, while considering leasing Kellynch Hall, Mrs. Croft asked more questions about the house, and terms, and taxes, than the Admiral himself (17). Thus, Mrs. Croft manages perfectly well in financial affairs. Furthermore, Mrs. Croft does not exhibit the female delicacy, as does Elizabeth, who relies utterly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Revolution Of The American Revolution Every 4th of July, Americans are told the story of the American Revolution. We remember the oppressed colonists fighting against the tyrannical King George III and the formidable red coats. Patriotic heroes are remembered, evil kings are cursed, and the liberties and freedoms won from the war are celebrated. Though America often likes to look back to the revolution, the question of just how much a revolution was the American Revolutionis rarely asked. While the American revolution was not as radical of a revolution as we like to remember today, it still changed the political, social, and ideological aspects substantially of the thirteen colonies. Americans deservedly have to rite to remember the revolution, regardless to the fact of if there was true reason to start one, as a true full fledged revolution. To decide just how much of a revolution the American Revolution was, one has to first explain what a revolution is. As defined by Princeton University, a revolution The overthrow of a government by those who are governed In accordance with this definition, for a protest to considered revolution, the established government must be overthrown by the people it governs over. The American Revolution easily fulfills this definition. The British government was overthrown by those it governed, the colonists. Since this criteria is met, the American Revolution can be considered a technical revolution. But to understand of just how much of a revolution the separation of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Portals And The Unattainable Essay Cara Krebb s Sehnsucht: Portals to the Unattainable I spent my childhood in a modest white house in northern Germany. I loved my home. I loved the gleaming stone floor. I loved the curving staircase, adorned with decorative wrought iron. I loved the narrow hallways. Best of all was the attic. It was accessed by a small sliding door tucked behind a large wardrobe. It was my secret place. It was my own world full of wonder and excitement. Fifteen years later, I was riding a train to Salt Lake City reminiscing about the trains I used to take through Europe. For a moment my home wasn t so distant. I longed. I ached. I hoped for that place again. Sadly, I realized even if I were to return, even if I were to prance across that polished stone floor, climb the twisted stairs, and open the sliding door once more, the attic wouldn t be the same. That place was partially the physical locale, but mostly the imaginings of an seven year old girl. That state of naivety of youth and wonder at the mundane could never be reclaimed, yet I still ached for it. There is a word that Germans use for this immense desire for the unreachable or the inconsolable longing in the human heart for we know not what; a yearning for a far, familiar, non earthly, intangible land one can identify as one s home. Sehnsucht. That beautiful familiar word from my German home greeted me as I walked into an exhibit at the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art. I ve read and experienced false memories before, but I wanted to know what other factors could contribute to this. In class, false memory was brought upon by spreading activation. Some of us felt strongly that sleep belonged with the other words that were closely related to sleep, such as bed, alarm, etc. It s amazing how we are confident that a false memorythat we thought, but did not see, is perceived to be an original memory. Since then hundreds of burger chains have prospered; top competitors today are McDonald s, Wendy s, Burger King. And this argument discusses why Burger King is the best burger chain among those three. By stating straightforward, Mcdonald s share the most in the hamburger industry. However, Burger King is much better than McDonald s business wise, taste wise, and charity wise. Burger King was founded in 1954, and is the second largest hamburger chain in the world. Burger King serves in 79 countries and every day, more than 11 million people come to Burger King around the world. Although McDonald s is the largest company with 68 million people visiting everyday and serving in 119 countries, Burger King is beating McDonald s in business. McDonald s sales are declining. According to CNN, McDonald s had a 2% drop in sales in July 2015, also they are planning to close about 500 restaurants in 2016. This means less and less people are going to McDonald s. Meanwhile, according to the Wall Street Journal, Burger King had 9.6 percent increase in its sales in April 2015, it also had an 8% increase in July 2015, and 11.2% increase in October 2015. This statistics mean more and more people are coming to Burger King. Burger King has been growing non stop since 2012 is the fastest growing company. Do the laws that a society have in place deter computer hacking or should we require to have better systems and technology to prevent such an attacks. In reviewing the US s Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, and the changes that have been made to improve computer security in the private sector, to see if these enough to protect our systems from cybercrimes? Will the addition of the Aaron law to this act going to improve computer security? Is the government just playing with terms and phase, or can this amendment true help protect our systems and how will hacking be handled in the future? I will outline that our government is merely addressing hacking on a, as it happened bases compared to the European Unionand does not clearly define the modern issue that we are handling or what they will become. • 13. The Love Of Another Is Not An Original Subject For Poetry Yearning for the love of another is not an original subject for poetry. However, this age old theme is expressed through the style of Petrarchan love in the poems Love, that doth reign and live within my thought and Astrophil and Stella 1. Love, that doth reign and live within my thought, was written by Henry Howard, Earl of Surrey in the mid sixteenth century (Greenblatt and Logan 386). Sidney wrote his series of sonnets entitled Astrophil and Stella in 1580, describing his relationship with Penelope Devereux (Greenblatt and Logan 491). Henry Howard in his writing of Love, that doth reign and live within my thought and Sir Philip Sidney in his writing of Astrophil and Stella 1 collectively express Petrarchan concepts in their poems. Petrarch was a fourteenth century poet whose writings were heavily influenced by the tradition of courtly love, however; Petrarch altered the ideal of courtly love by removing the fulfilled meeting of the two lovers leaving the man with an infinitely unfulfilled love. Henry Howard s and Sir Philip Sidney s situations are similar in that they are both dealing with a vexing situation that is constructed around their feelings and expressions of love for a woman. Both poets express these notions in their writings through their similar uses of meter, situation, and Petrarchan structure. Love, that doth reign and live within my thought is Henry Howard s version of Petrarch s Rima 140. Howard keeps the construction of the Petrarchan sonnet the same ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

So once they were all deceased and were brought together in the afterlife, there were always great stories and discussions of their time on earth and all that was accomplished by not only them, but by their culture as a whole. One time, before their most notable argument, Augustus Caesar briefly stated that it was a blessing and a curse to be associated with the Roman culture because even as the most important contributor to art and architecture in the Western world , his time as an emperor was actually very stressful and long winded. That statement created an uproar amongst the men and they got into an unorganized debate. To settle the argument,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Constantine the Great was a solo emperor who fostered the growth of Christianity in the Roman empire. To begin with, art of the Christian world focused on stylization, stiffness, and the symbolic (conceptual imagery). There was no interest in the human form or emotions shown through naturalism and illusionism because the art s main focus was that it had aspects of faith and spirituality. This was displayed through themes that correlated with the bible, like the death and resurrection of Christ. Constantine used the Early Christian wall fresco titled Catacomb of St. Peter and Marcellinus to touch base on themes and symbolism that Christian art resonated with. The catacombs overall design was painted as a cross, a prominent Christian symbol. The picture in the middle of the Good Shepherd and Jonah the Whale were prefiguration, stories that foreshadow the Life of Christ himself. A lot of art, like the one Constantine mentioned above, were principal narratives of Christ in the new testament of the Bible. Christian architecture utilized spolia, which is the use of old architectural elements to build something new. To accompany the large scale Christian architecture, they adapted a new art form, called wall mosaics. There was a sudden interest in covering huge wall surfaces with images worthy of their monumental framework. These mosaics to this day are displayed on walls on Catholic churches throughout the United States and other countries as well. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Symptoms And Treatment Of Bacterial Resistance Essay As a surgical Technologist in the Operating room, I have witnessed first hand the destruction and suffering that bacteria can have on the body. Some infections only cause minor discomfort and inflammation. Other bacteria such as streptococcus can cause horribly debilitating diseases such as Necrotizing Fasciitis1. I have also seen that bacterial resistance can play a central role in the outcome of a patient and their future life. Resistance can even determine if a person lives or dies from a bacterial infection. This is in no way more present to me than in the life of my grandmother who, through years of diabetic complications and treatment, is now left with less than a handful of antibiotics that will work to treat her conditions. Dr. Keiji Fukuda of the World Health Organization said it best, Without urgent, coordinated action by many stakeholders, the world is headed for a post antibiotic era, in which common infections and minor injuries which have been treatable for decades can once again kill. 2 With how many people that have infections today, the topic of antibiotics is of utmost importance. The aim of this paper is to look at the history of antibiotics, how they work and why they are not working now, and the possibility of better antibiotics in our future. Every time you pick up a paper or magazine it seems there is always some protest regarding abortion, whether it be for fetal rights or women s rights. According to the Encyclopaedia Britannica the definition of abortion is the expulsion of a fetus from the uterus before it has reached the stage of viability (in human beings, usually about the 20th week of gestation). An abortion may occur spontaneously, in which case it is also called a miscarriage, or it may be brought on purposefully, in which case it is often called an induced abortion. Their possibility for a promising future would not be lost due to the fact that they were missing a hand. Abortion, like ordinary killing, could be justified only by the most compelling reasons (Marquis, p. 400). The biggest problem with this issue is where to draw the line between severe and bearable pain and disability. What one person might consider not worth living with may be very different from another person s definition. What ends up happening is the development of a slippery slope between permissible and not permissible abortions based on disabilities. There will always be disagreements on which disabilities could be considered to have an impact on a person having a good future. Many people opposed to abortion rely on the fact that the fetus is a human being from the moment that they are conceived. At that moment a unique DNA is created and they argue that God places a human soul in that just fertilized Ovum (Robinson, p.1). This has seemed to be a continuing debate between both sides. Pro life activists disagree with the argument that a fetal life becomes a person only when electrical activity begins in the cerebral cortex. They argue that at the time of conception all major decisions as to what that fetus will become have been determined. For example, whether it will be male of female, what height it will be, what build it will be, and what colour it s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. The Ethical Decision Making Process Ethical Decision Making Process Ayva Rodriguez Felician College NURS 380 Elizabeth Stallings RN, MA, DMH January 22, 2015 Abstract Nurses often encountered various ethical dilemmas in the practice setting. Both virtue ethics and caring ethics support good ethical decision making for nurses (Park, 2012, p. 149) but these are inadequate to assist in solving an ethical dilemma (Park, 2012, p. 149). For that reason an ethical decision making tool is helpful for the nurses or clinicians to come up with an ethical decision (Kelly, 2012, p. 571) that allows them to gather information, identify any gap of understanding on the issue or the disagreements between the involved parties through a clear communication (Park, 2012, p. 140). Several authors presented an ethical decision making processes (Park, 2012, p. 141), here presented the two processes that can be applied in resolving an ethical dilemma. One example of ethical decision making process is the DECIDE model by Thompson, Melia Boyd (Allen, Chapman, Francis, O Connor, 2008, p. 5) and the Integrated ethical decision making model which was derived from the combination of the different ethical decision making models strengths (Park, 2012, p. 140). These two ethical decision making model steps are identical to each but differ on the detailed instruction on how the steps are to be done or used in actual case. By comparing the two models the integrated ethical decision making model have a detailed instruction. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Curriculum Journal. Vol. 11, 2, 145 158. A holistic approach An important distinction needs to be made when dealing with creativity in schools, that is the difference between teaching creatively and teaching for creativity. Teaching creatively refers to teachers using imaginative approaches to make learning more interesting, exciting and effective. (NACCCE Report, 1999: 102). Teachers often need to be highly creative in order to capture learners interest and attention. Teaching for creativity refers to forms of teaching that are intended to develop young people s own creative thinking or behaviour. (NACCCE Report, 1999: 103). The way I see it, teaching creatively is a tool in the hands of the teacher who wants to make any learning experience meaningful, creative teaching as a means to better teaching, whereas teaching for creativity implies the inclusion of creativity as a learning objective in teacher s planning of lesson material. Teaching for creativity must acknowledge a multi faceted approach to creativity, an approach that takes into account all the aspects of creativity where education is concerned (Prentice, 2000) 3. Creativity may be considered as one of the most important targets that education should aim for. When a teacher aims to stimulate learners creativity, this can be fostered in a variety of ways, amongst which there is the strategy of regarding students as active consumers of ... To properly study the pathogens of the past, Warinner explained the different ways this is possible. The first is by extracting human DNA from ancient bones to recreate the human genome. With this process the goal is to highlight changes that result from risk factors, adaptations and inherited diseases. She then stated, The most important health challenges today are not caused by simple mutations in our genome, but rather result from a complex and dynamic interplay between genetic variation, diet, microbes and parasites and our immune response (Warinner). For example, if a company is currently trading at $43 a share and earnings over the last 12 months were $1.95 per share, the P/E ratio for the stock would be 22.05 ($43 /$1.95). (Investopedia, 2011) The P/E ratio for Coca Cola is 12.39. (Yahoo Finance, 2011) This ratio indicates that the company s stock price is currently trading at 12 and a third of its current earnings. Because we have been brainwashed that leasing is a fool s way to drive a car. But when we exploit the benefits of leasing (and avoid the common traps), we are able to drive a lot more car for a lot less money over our lifetime. *** We all know leasing is confusing Leasing is meant to seem complicated. I am about to share with you the big loophole of new car leasing. Ready? Here it is... It is a secret that most people do not know about. It is the secret that gets most people thinking leasing has mileage and damage penalties. But the secret is this: The legal loophole around paying for end of lease penalties is to get the dealership to buy our car back from us (instead of turning it in). Let me repeat this, because it is the secret to get more car for less money. At any time during a lease, we can sell our leased car to any dealership on the planet. It does not matter if we sell a leased Toyota to a BMW dealership or a leased Audi to a Honda dealership.

After becoming CEO, president, and chairman of the board in 1999, the company repositioned and focused on being a specialty retailer rather than a wholesale bakery. Krispy Kreme wanted to give their customers the hot doughnut experience they all knew and loved (Peter Donnelly, 2011). The second part of their plan was to increase the number of stores both franchises, and company owned nationally. The company began to move into other regions. Blake writes about the negative aspects of London while Wordsworth on the other hand writes about the positive aspects of London. Although these poems portray London differently, they do so by the use of similar methods. The methods they use to portray London are exaggeration, use of the five senses, and personification.
