How did you attract/address your
audience?
Firstly, I used the code and
convention of direct mode of
address to attract my audience.
This engaged the reader from
the first moment. The cover
page. Because my magazine is
aimed at rock fans, I wanted my
main artist to resemble this
theme, therefore I ensured she
wear darker/rock related
colours.
I conducted a questionnaire to find out what my
audience were most interested in.
From this I found that the majority of people asked were
most interested in the content of the magazine. This is
because beforehand I had done some research into what
people’s favourite artists or bands were. I also gave them
questions as to what type of articles would they most be
interested in e.g. festivals, interviews, competitions,
reviews. This was so that I could include what my target
audience liked therefore, know that my product would
be popular.
•
Another factor that attracted the audience to my
magazine was the use of images. One of my target
audience stated that the use of direct mode of address
on the cover page via the artist made them feel really
involved with the magazine. They said the body language
and way the shot was taken gave the artist a character
which they knew straight away.
Within my questionnaire I asked if my images looked
appropriate for the magazine. It showed that my target
audience believed they did. I made sure of this by using a
high quality camera for my images. This way they were
sure to come out clear and professionally, I did this by
using an SLR camera.
•
Throughout the magazine I used casual and informal
language as my product is targeted at a young adult
audience. However, I made sure that the content given
was still to a professional standard so the magazine was
taken seriously.
I also ensured that they thought my separate productions
looked like they were all from the same magazine.
This was done by selecting appropriate colours
(red, yellow, black) and creating a house style for the rock
genre.
Competition
I enticed my audience with competition. I gave
them a chance to ‘win’ within the magazine.
This is something I incorporated from my
audience research.
