Informative Essay On Oldsmobile
In the automotive world there is lots of car brands on the market for us to pick from, there are
American brands, Japanese, Germen to cars, SUV and trucks. Some of them are successful brand on
the market today, however, there are some that haven t had much luck and had to close their doors.
Today I will be talking about the automotive company Oldsmobile. I will be talking about the history
of the brand, where did the company started, the target market, the most popular unit sold, the reason I
ve picket Oldsmobile. Oldsmobile was created in 1897 by a man named Ransom E. Olds, Ransom was
born in Geneva, Ohio on June 3rd 1864 he passed away on August 26th 1950 at the age of 86. Ransom
founded the company called Olds Motor Vehicle Company in Lansing, Michigan on August 21, 1897.

Some of those cars are the Oldsmobile Cutlass, Oldsmobile f 85, Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser. In the
1970 s throw the 1980 s it was a huge time for Oldsmobile, they were at a high sale of 1,066,122 cars.
It was a huge year for Oldsmobile. The key makes of their sales was their designe, the costumers
review and also their reliability of their popular Rocket V8 engine. Then in 1976 Oldsmobile was the
America s bestselling car on the market. The company was so popular that they displace some of its
competitor as the 3rd best selling automotive brand in the United States behind Ford and Chevrolet.
Later in 1977, General Motors was starting to struggle with Oldsmobile, they eventually had to change
their V8 engine with the Chevrolet 350engine because of the Federal emissions specifications. This
has started a public relations nightmare with GM. However they never stop trying to do something
new, in 1978 Oldsmobile came out with a 5.7L V8 diesel engine on optional vehicle like the Delta 88
and 98. Also, they came out with a 4.3L V8

We Must Learn from the Holocaust
The holocaust is not only humanities darkest hour, but also one of the most educational experiences
that ever occurred. Failure is not something good, but you should always learn from it. This also
applies to the holocaust. The thing we should have known before the holocaust was that before
punishing someone, think of the choice they did or didn t have in the matter. The Germans failed to do
this when they brutally persecuted the jews. The people caught in the middle didn t realize that the
Germans were wrong in their persecution, and the jews actually forgave the children of the holocaust
because they were raised to only know one thing and didn t know that they had a choice. The Germans
were wrong in their persecution of the jews for many reasons. They didn t think about why they were
persecuting jews, who sometimes were only persecuted because someone in their family was a jew.
The Germans didn t even think about why they were taking land from other countries. People believed
that Hitler would honor his agreement not to take land from France, but He said the same thing about
Poland six months ago (page 43). This quote refrences an argument between Alfons and his mother in
the book Parrallell journeys. Alfons was a young kid who was loyal to hitler while many of his family
memebers were not. Alfons believed Hitler s every word, but his family could see the lies that he said.
Alfons was not the only one to have blind leadership in Htiler. There were many who believed his

What Was The Role Of Communication In American Civilization
The ability for the common person to write and read opens new worlds of possibilities while also
influencing common writing materials. Increasing communication between all cultivates a unified and
peaceful society. The written word is such a powerful tool, in fact, civilizations have chosen at times
to limit the number and type of people who could comprehend it. Being able to read and write enabled
shifts in the class system by accelerating the learning process and enabling speedy career training. For
universal literacy, commoners must be able to access affordable and quick to use writing materials. In
the Sumerian Civilization, written word was revered and feared. Very few people could read or write
and the idea of becoming a literate civilization was discouraged. Because of this, a distinct class of
writers was formed. These writers were called scribes and were taught to write what they were told to
write, word for word and read without personal bias or elaboration. For the privacy of their masters,
scribes were not to add their own thoughts or think about the content they were inscribing. ... Show

was a military officer, a high official, or an accountant. A few women became scribes, but most
students were boys, and they attended school from sunrise to sunset until they reached adulthood (77).

Analysis Of Being A Man
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, or so it seems. Society implements the standard of beauty in our
everyday lives. It controls what roles women are expected to perform. A similar anticipation goes for
men, but for masculinity . Every individual man is supposed to be masculine and have some sort of
manly quality. Paul Theroux in Being a Man discusses how as a male, one is expected to meet society
s standards of masculinity. He as well mentions his reasoning on why that principle of behavior is
invalid. Theroux argues that men have it just as bad as women do when it comes to fulfilling society s
ideal image. Naomi Wolf in The Beauty Myth however, believes women have it harder to live up to
society s idealistic femininity, and the beauty myth is a restriction. It is more difficult to fit into society
s beauty standards as a woman than it is for a man to live up to a manly nature Living life in society as
a man has its hardships. In order to be considered a man in society, a male must fit the ideal criteria.
Paul Theroux argues that society s standard of masculinity for a man is just as challenging as
femininity is for a woman. According to Theroux, the expression Be a man! strikes me as insulting
and abusive. It means: Be stupid, be unfeeling, obedient, soldierly, and stop thinking (1). Having such
cold and negative qualities is unappealing, yet it is expected. If a man decides not to follow these
norms, then he is subjected to scrutiny. For example, Theroux

point in their lives has gone through some form of testing or has done a test. Tests were developed in

Zechariah s The Riddle Of The Annunciation
With the initial exchange between Mary and the Angel resolved, this discussion now turns its attention
to the central point of the Annunciation passage, the announcement of Christ, and Mary s confusion at
this pronouncement. To truly understand that scriptural passage, it is necessary to discuss the possible
reasons for what has been called The Riddle of the Annunciation, that is, why a girl who is betrothed
to be married and, presumably, understands the origin of children, questions how the Angel s
announcement could pertain to her. The simplest explanation to this question is also the least
satisfying. This is that, for some reason, Mary is ignorant of the way children are conceived. This does
not seem to fit any reasonable reading of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He points out that the annunciation format itself generally requires an objecting question. This could
partially explain Zechariah s objection in the previous story in Luke which this is designed to parallel.
However, Landry goes on to note that such a clunky and unreasonable objection does not seem to fit.
Elsewhere, Luke does not hold himself so slavishly to formal patterns that he damages the flow of his
story. It seems that if Luke were slavishly following the formal pattern for an annunciation, he would
have picked an objection that would not be so confusing or even indecipherable to his reader. In fact,
Landry asserts with Schaberg that those who immediately jump to Luke simply slavishly following
the annunciation format have given up too soon on the logic of the story. This discussion agrees with
that conclusion; the literary solution ignores Luke s actual text and simply takes the easy solution to
sidestep rather than address this question. A rejection of the literary solution to the riddle is further
supported elsewhere in Luke s own Gospel, and these will be discussed later within the discussion of
solutions that reject historicity of the virgin birth

Movie, Film Stars Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman, And...
Wanted
Wanted! When you hear, or say that term, the visual that may come to mind may be: criminal, old
western movie, or even a comparison to a relationship. But in relation to the movie Wanted it stands
for nothing but a guy that wanted no more in life but to find his purpose. A lot of us in this world
never actually find our purpose in life, we just kind of settle for what we are able to do. We go through
trials and tribulations to find ourselves, and find anything that will make our lives more satisfying,
including putting ourselves in harms way to do it. This film stars Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman,
and James McAvoy, which names all scream a killer movie to me. The theme represented in this
movie is not only deceit and lack of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first theme demonstrated in this movie is Perseverance, which was illustrated in the film by
Wesley, and his determination to go through all the physical test to meet standards of the fraternity.
His whole intention throughout the movie was to prove that he could become more than what he
always has considered himself, which is below average. When Wesley was in training he got beat up
by multiple people in the fraternity, in an attempt to make him physically strong to stand anything. He
learned tasks including fighting, knife work, and also how to curve a bullet. When he was learning to
curve the bullet Sloan, played by Morgan Freeman, states The first time in your life Wesley, you are in
control (Bekmambetov, Wanted ). As he shoots multiple bullets and still pierces the wrong target, Fox
then stands in the middle of him and the target and says, shoot the target (Bekmambetov, Wanted ). As
hesitant as he was he knew he had to have confidence in himself to complete the task. As he shoots
around Fox, not knowing if the bullet would hit her, he takes his shot and hits the correct target. Sloan
then says Welcome to the fraternity (Bekmambetov, Wanted ). He then knew all his hard work had
paid off! That part of the movie showed strength and perseverance.
Another way both themes, deceit and perseverance, were shown was at the end of the movie when

Business Models Of Priceline And Greentoe
Introduction
There are lots of business models that are used in our society today, such as: Product Service
Customization, Online Auctions, Group Purchasing, Affiliate Marketing, Find The Best Price, Name
Your Own Price, and Social Networking Web 2.0 Tools. According to How Things Work and
Entrepreneur, the Name Your Own Price business model is the top model to use not only when
opening up a starter business but in the business world period (2014, 2009). Priceline and Greentoe
are two of the most well known business that use the NYOP business model and are now described as
the top ranked travel and shopping sites in the United States . (Laudon Traver, 2014, p. 718)
Background
The concept of the NYOP model is to allow the consumer to set the initial bid for the service, or
product, they desire. The price can then increase based on the willingness of the consumer to haggle in
order to get the good or service. The company, Priceline, first initiated the Name Your Own Price e
commerce business model. Priceline s grown profit margins of $956 million in 2008 (Hinz, 2011),
secured the acceptance and success of the NYOP model. Although, there is a high profit margin, the
NYOP business model is limited to products such as the ones offered by Priceline. As described in our
text, it is unclear at this time if the Priceline business model can extend to other categories of products.
Experiments to sell gasoline and groceries through Priceline failed (Laudon

Leadership Reflective Essay
The three most important things that I have learned are based on the foundation of systems theory.
Communities are made of a giant system and immeasurable subsystems acting and reacting with one
another. When the various systems become unstable, resulting needs arise. Often, there are so many
contributions to an issue; one has a great deal of difficulty understanding the source of the problem.
Rather, the primary importance is accepting the relationships between individuals and environments.
Communities must recognize that those within the system are responsible for taking the steps to
provide stability for existence and intervening to strengthen existing structures (Homan, 2011). The
most successful social undertakings involve ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another significant subject is deciding what issues demand urgent engagement. It is very easy to be
distracted by other problems within the larger concern. Focus is crucial to progress and success.
Chapter 11 provides many suggestions on ways in Selecting issues for action (Homan, 2011, p. 335).
The text also stresses the development of leadership as an essential component of organizational
development. Homan (2011) explains that Leadership provides a sense of confidence to members of
an organization or group (p. 346). This content is something that I had not fully conceptualized in the
past, but in evaluating previous experiences with leadership, I can now see a trend in the high value of
positive leadership roles. This is an area that I will definitely carry new knowledge and consideration
in future endeavors. The course content referring to the strategies of confrontation, negotiation,
collaboration, and advocacy is beneficial and interesting. In particular, confrontation is an approach of
which I personally avoid as much as possible, so the outline, guidelines, and strategies contained in
the text are great empowerment tools. After learning more about the confrontation tool, I was able to
identify its use as being relatively successful concerning local events. Specifically, there was a lot of
speculation and outrage involving the Department of Children and Family Services regarding the
death of Emani Moss, the 10 year

Analyzing the Significance of the Evolution of Aeronautics...
The advancement of air technology during the early twentieth century, brought about by the initiation
of World War One, has posed significant questions about the role and value of aeronautics in major
world tragedies, such as the September 11 Attacks in New York City and Washington D.C., and the
1991 Air Campaign of the Gulf War: Does the continuous advancement of aeronautics serve as the
true mastermind of such acts of savagery and tragedy? Is the advancement of aeronautics the culprit
responsible for the deaths of the elderly, women, infants, and children? Aeronautics revolutionized
World War One and set the stage for the occurrence of major global events throughout the twentieth
and twenty first centuries.

However, due to their penetrable material and large frame, they did not long withstand the ever
improving period of air warfare, and immediately were replaced with smaller, more durable aircraft.
At the beginning of the war, airplanes did not have the capacity to carry crews, as well as weapons. If
airmen had attempted to carry anything other than the crew on the planes, they would have carried the
severe risk of negatively affecting the performance of the plane, which would result in detrimental
effects on reconnaissance. However, as the war progressed, the idea of airplanes being utilized merely
for reconnaissance purposes was deferred as a result of the rapid rate of growth in aeronautics. Soon,
airplanes were being used to carry crews, weapons, and military supplies.
Along with the advancement of airplanes came the advancement of strategical tactics used in order to
prevent the primary purpose of airplanes during World War One: reconnaissance. One of the most
significant advancements in aeronautics as a result of the occurrence of World War One was the arrival
of air bombers. The arrival of air bombers occurred after aircrafts finally had the capacity to carry
crews, weapons, and military supplies without the performance of the airplane being affected. Air
bombers were utilized in order to prevent the spying of dispositions by the enemy. However, one
might argue

The Disappearance Of The Roanoke Island Colony
America s past is a mysterious one, riddled with unsolved questions and misleading legends. One of
the most prominent enigmas that has haunted historians for centuries is the disappearance of the
Roanoke Island Colony, also known to many as The Lost Colony.
After leaving for three years, the governor of Roanoke Island, John White, returned to find the
settlement abandon. The only remaining clue was the word CROATOAN carved into a fence post and
the letters CRO etched into a nearby tree. Several diverse theories have been suggested to explain the
disappearance of the 120 missing colonist, ranging from disease to natural disaster.
Any evidence supporting the various theories is weak, at best. However, the clues left behind point to
the assimilation theory which proposes the colonists integrated with the natives, as the Croatoan had
been a friendly Native American tribe in the area. Furthermore, the majority of new facts and the
strongest evidence support the assimilation theory as well. Other common theories have numerous
flaws in their logic that make them highly improbable. It is because the only sign the colony left
behind indicates assimilation, any new or outside evidence discovered also serves to further prove
assimilation, and all other theories suffer major inaccuracies that assimilation is the most probable
theory.
The Lost Colony was the first of England s new world colonies, meant to be both a permanent
settlement and the location of a fortress. England s

Compare And Contrast Beast And The Harlot
After elementary school, my mom and dad separated. At the time, I was thirteen years old and still had
a strong notion that my dad would eventually come and join us in Bel Air, Maryland, where we had
moved to during the summer of 2006. However, towards the end of the summer, I slowly came to
terms with the fact that I would not be living with my father the way I had before. Through
interactions with my new predominantly white middle school friends, I was exposed to a wider variety
of genres such as metal, rock (classic and new age), punk, and pop. At the time, I believed I just
listened to this new genre music because it was new and what my friends listened to, however, now I

song also had a lot of contrast in the melodic elements as well, a musical idea that, according to Mike
Rugnetta, is responsible for the emotional we feel in response to music. In addition, I believe I honed
in on this song and the surrounding genre because of the masculinity associated with the song. Beast

The s Theory Of Knowledge
As human beings, we have the natural propensity to acquire knowledge from our evolving
environment, through different ways of knowing such as perception, reason, emotion and language.
Knowledge can be defined as information acquired from experience or education or the awareness of a
situation. Thus, denoting experience, education and awareness as the roots of knowledge.
Consequently, if a knower is not able to experience an event or be educated, the concept of knowledge
may cease to exist. Therefore, in order for a knower to experience an event, they must acknowledge
their individual perspective of the event, to ascertain the extent in which the knowledge presented to
them is beneficial or irrelevant. To address the titular statement, one must acknowledge what is meant
by the Knower s perspective . The knower s perspective can be defined as a series of events enforced
on an individual that causes them to perceive animate, inanimate objects and knowledge claims with a
certain unique viewpoint. Thus, this essay aims to explore the knowledge question: To what extent is
the knower s (individuals) perspective important in acquiring knowledge ? The knower s perspective
can be manipulated by numerous factors such as indigenous knowledge, shaping their perspective to a
more shared viewpoint. This is significant as it highlights how the knower s perspective could be
considered convoluted, due to the factors that make it a universal perspective, therefore, making the

Evidence Based Intervention
Evidence Based Intervention Brief

1. Intervention Name: Integrated Treatment for Co occurring Disorders
2. Brief Description: Due to the chicken and egg dilemma surrounding co occurring disorders, for
years researchers have faced the challenge of what to treat first, in other words identifying the main
issue. Now after twenty years and being given the title of an evidence based practice, researchers have
come up with a holistic approach in treating co occurring disorders. Researches coined this evidence

Goals Of Professional Socialization
Professional socialization has four goals: (1) to learn the technology of the profession the facts, skills,
and theory, (2) to learn to internalize the professional culture, (3) to find a personally and
professionally acceptable version of the role, and (4) to integrate this professional role into all of the
other life roles (Masters, p. 174). In the first goal, it is our duty to stay in touch with advancing
technology. This advancement allows more efficient and precise diagnostics. We are learning more in
depth of different diseases and illnesses thus allowing us to diagnose individuals rigorously. In the
second goal, nurses should be able to communicate with individuals from different cultures so they

Nurses must achieve higher levels of education and training to respond to these increasing demands
(Medicine, 2010). As for myself, I am currently still learning the technology of the profession as a
student nurse. As I continue with my schooling, I hope to endure a broad variety of cultural diversities
so I can work on the second goal as well. I feel like I am further along with goal number three than
any of the others. I go about with a professional and respectful manner in my daily life. With the last
goal, I believe I am on my way, but I hope to improve and continue to influence this in my daily life.
Overall, I can always work harder to become a better student, nurse, and educator to my patients. The
goal in the socialization of nurses today and for the future is to achieve caring with autonomy. The
challenge for the profession is capitalizing on the strengths of everyone and finding a means of
accommodating all individuals as a way of maintaining the viability of the profession. Professional
socialization of nurses in a profession that fully embraces caring for self and others reflects the
internalization of what Roach refers to as the five C s: compassion, competence, confidence,

Funding Tender Of Cash Value Benefits
Several years ago, Texas WIC formed operational and technical workgroups to discuss the feasibility
of adding split tender of Cash Value Benefits (CVB) as optional functionality for Smartcard WIC to
enable WIC clients to use the full amount of CVB prescribed to them. The technical workgroup
recommended another feature, benefit reversal, be added for situations where WIC clients didn t have
the additional funds available to purchase items that would be split tendered with WIC benefits in the
transaction. This functionality was already available in online WIC but FNS requirements restricted
the process of adding benefits to the WIC card during the development and acceptance of Smartcard

Around the same time, the Smartcard states released updated specifications and test scripts. The
X9.131 standard was adopted by the X9 committee in early 2015 and published through ANSI.
As the WIC stakeholders were doing the work necessary to prepare developers for the split tender
mandate, the credit card industry was also mandating changes in the retail world. Retailers would have
to implement all changes necessary to handle chip and PIN EMV cards prior to October 1, 2015 or
assume the liability for all fraudulent transactions where the mag stripe was swiped on an EMV
capable card. As developers scrambled to meet this deadline (of which many failed), the
implementation dates continued to slip which also delayed development efforts for the WIC benefit
reversal development. As of April 2016, many retailers can still not accept an EMV chip card.
Texas WIC was notified by Kroger on April 15, 2016 that the software delivery for split tender and
benefit reversal would be delayed until early 2017. There is concern because they will not meet the
extended deadline mandated by USDA FNS and will not be compliant with the terms of the WIC
Vendor Agreement in the Smartcard WIC states that they do business.
Texas and the other Smartcard states must now determine a course of action on how to respond to
Kroger (and others that may have similar issues but have not notified us yet). One option would be to

Nazi Propaganda Reached an Extreme State with the Passing...
 Nazi propaganda started off simply as a display of anti Semitism. However as time progressed it
became more and more extreme. In 1933 the Nazis passed the Nuremberg laws. The first rule of order
was to prohibit Jews from holding public office. This is only the first step in their plot to diminish the
Jewish community. More laws then came. In 1935, the Nuremberg laws took German citizenship
away from the Jews. They also had to wear a bright yellow star attached to their clothes so the Nazis
could identify them. o Page 2: Kristallnacht  Then came Kristallnacht, or The Night of Broken

It is very clear to see the increasing effort that the Nazis were putting into annihilating the Jewish
population at this time. However it only got worse. o Page 5: The Concentration Camps  Hitler
became weary of waiting for the Jews to die off. He wanted them gone much quicker and in a wider
scale. He set up a plan called the Final Solution in 1939. This was a perfect example of pure genocide.
At this point, Hitler not only wanted to rid Germany of Jews, but anyone who is not a part of the so
called Aryan race. The SS, Hitler s elite security force, rounded up thousands upon thousands of men,
woman, children, and even newborns; and took them to concentration camps. The Nazis used
psychological torture tactics on the captives. They were captured in early morning, thus making them
disoriented and confused; they were told to strip naked at the camps and forced to stand nude among
millions of other inmates. This was a tactic of dehumanizing the inmates. The conditions were made
purposely terrible in order to kill the Jews in a large scale. At this point, hostility towards Jews is

Mary Maloney Short Story
I never did get caught for killing Patrick. Mary Maloney sat by the fireplace, her frail head tilted
against the lined leather chair, listening to the whispers of the fire. She closed her eyes, her hand
resting thoughtfully against her cheek, remembering the feel of the cold leg of lamb held firmly in her
delicate hands. She was always remembering, especially in her old age. Mother, her son, nearly twenty
now, spoke gently, save your breath, you haven t long now. His eyes were glazed over, mouth slightly
ajar as much as he wanted his mother to save her strength... he d never heard the end of this particular
story. Mary had always strived to be honest with him, and, when they had to move because their secret
had been discovered, Mary had patiently explained why. Never had she dared to tell the whole story.
Mary s eyes softened, the fire reflecting into their crisp blueness she looked like an angel. She turned
to her son, it s time you heard the whole story. She closed her eyes, remembering. It was 1957, you
were barely five years old, she laughed, you were a wild one, all full of lightning and fire. You were a
good kid. Mary opened her eyes, looking back at the dusty portrait of herself and another man on the
wall, I had been seeing the lead detective from your father s murder investigation of course I knew
who had done it, but he was a kind man, and I enjoyed his company. Jack Noonan was a gentle,
intelligent man, and by that point I didn t fear

A Review Of The Article Review
Foregrounding/Backgrounding Both of these tools refer to the writer actively drawing attention either
toward or away any given concept. Typically, Calgary Herald journalists gave textual prominence
towards voices and ideas that pushed industry protection and dismissed claims made by
environmentalists. Even throughout my initial reading of the data, emphasis was almost always placed
on the economic costs of climate change policies prior to making mention of the inevitable
environmental consequences. This foregrounding of governmental and industry voices and the
backgrounding of environmental voices is clear in the article published titled Critics Challenge
Emissions Target (Wingrove 2015, May 16). The first person referenced is the ... Show more content

If an explanation was given, it omitted the fact that policies are being put into place to prevent the
calamitous effects of global warming. Coverage on the economic costs of climate change adaptation
strategies heavily outweighed writing on the environmental harms that would arise out of non action.
By way of illustration, an article about oil production reads TransCanada Corp. s Keystone XL
pipeline and Enbridge Inc. s Northern Gateway project heading west, have been bogged down by
environmental concerns [...] and the lack of pipelines is a further drag on investment intentions in the
Canadian oil patch (Hussain 2015, April 11). Hussain s article refrains from explaining why
environmentalists are having concerns. Within the news reporting discourse, one would reasonably
expect objective and detailed coverage but in this instance, the author s choice of words flagrantly
drops the plethora of reasons why environmentalists would be concerned with the actions of big oil.
Another headline reads, There may be hope for new pipelines after all (Thomson 2015, October 15).
While these examples may not appear erroneous on the surface, upon close inspection on the phrasing
level, both bogged down and drag carry negative connotations that frame the protection of the
environment as a barrier

Innovation In Transport Industry Essay
Innovation in Transport Industry
Introduction
After Singapore independence, Singapore s bus service was provided by numerous small operators
and was highly split with both service and safety standards were low. The aggressive competition by
the private bus companies led to poor service, lack of incorporation and network economies eventually
resulting in the immediate bankruptcy of many of these companies. The government moved in a team
of civil servants, take over the fragmented companies and put together a tight outfit, making
reasonable profits. The new entity, SBS Transit, was eventually nationalized.

Since 1987, managing the three way tensions of ensuring profitability and acceptable quality had been
the job of the Public Transport Council (PTC), which regulates transport fares for both buses and
trains. In today, according to Fare Review Mechanism Committee Final Report (2013) (Anon., 2013)
the PTC implements a cap on annual fare adjustments which is based on the formula.
Exhibit 1: The Public Transport Quality
Affordability Profitability
In 1996, Singapore Government revealed one of its most aspiring and extensive plans for the
Singapore s land transport system. It contained details step the authorities to follow to achieve its
vision of a world class transport system for the city in the next 10 to 15 years time. The change to
existing schemes was proposed like revision of taxi fares. New schemes were introduced as well such
as Electronic Road Pricing (ERP), which eventually become omnipresent in Singapore. But among all
these implementation, the heart of the blueprint was that 75 Percent of all day to day trips in Singapore
would be made by public transport. In order to achieve this goal, improvements to public transport
were critical. The White Paper said that the government would enhance public transport, encouraging
more Singaporeans to switch from cars to train and bus, and easing traffic congestion. It would also
enhance railway and road networks so that commuters can

Equipment For Operation Iraqi Freedom And Operation...
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM What were the causes for the excess and the abandonment of
equipment for Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom? BACKGROUND Most
logistical tacticians have a tendency to review historical documents before developing strategies to
deploy and redeploy troops and equipment. This common practice is very successful to deploying
soldiers and equipment, but historically there is a lack of emphasis on the redeployment, or retrograde
of equipment. The soldiers are undoubtedly brought home; nonetheless antiquity shows us equipment
is sometimes not a priority to return. Logistic American retrograde issues were first publically noticed
in 1847 following war with Mexico. A published Army bulletin revealed property divesting as an issue
and needed a high priority because of the great loss of left behind equipment. Again after World Wars
I and II, the military had immense amounts of equipment scattered across the Pacific and Europe.
There was no specific need for the equipment after the war, and much of it was abandoned in place,
and although lack of retrograde operations occurred, the abandoned equipment turned useful in
supporting the Korean War. Logisticians learning their lessons from previous wars, vowed to not be
unprepared while entering the Vietnam War. Specialized programs and systems were established to
document, classify and store all equipment entering Vietnam. Continental Army Command initialized

Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec Essay
Henri de Toulouse Lautrec
Henri de Toulouse Lautrec was arguably the greatest graphic artist of his time; he is best remembered
for his bold, colourful posters of
Parisian entertainers. His childhood years were spent at his family chateau in the southwest of France
where he broke both of his legs and therefore stunted his growth. This left him ill proportioned and
dwarfish. This unfortunate event probably helped his artistic ability as he spent most of his time on his
own.
Lautrec was at his peak as a painter and poster artist in the early
1890 s at the time of the post impressionists.
During his life Lautrec felt most comfortable in the nightclubs, dance halls and brothels of Paris. The
narrow life he led is clearly shown ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first picture I have chosen to talk about is Lautrec s first important painting, which is called At the
Circus Fernando which was painted in 1888. The painting includes his favourite clown Cha u kao who
he painted many times before. This early example of Lautrec s caricature and graphic style shows the
ringmaster and a bareback rider at one of the famous Montmatre circuses. The people at the Moulin
Rouge thought so highly of the painting that it was hung in the dancehall from the opening night. The
exaggerated features and silhouetted suit tails of the ringmaster make it look as if he has been cut out
and stuck down in an appropriate position on the circus floor. I admired this painting because I liked
the way he incorporated the sense of movement into the painting by firstly painting the horse when it
was in the middle of a stride with its hooves in the air and secondly how he painted the rim of the
circus in a curve, which gave a good effect. I was attracted to this painting because it is full of life and
colour. Lautrec uses bright colours when he is painting the seating and the background, which
contrasts with the relatively dull colours of the ringmaster and horse. Lautrec makes the dancer on the
horse stand out by painting a dull green entrance wall behind the strong yellow hair of the dancer,
which attracts your attention. I thought it was clever how he puts a bit more life into the painting

Photographer Techniques
A good photographer knows how to use some little tricks to create a pretty scene, and the good
photographer knows how to use small techniques to build the mood for the photo. Pretty scene and
mood of the photo together create the meaning for the photo, and they allure people to step into the
photo. Some of the techniques that used to make a photo looks pretty is the lighting of the photo, and
the angle of that photo. And some tricks that are used to create a photo are models, sand, fake fog, etc.
Photographer just needs a little bit of tricks to create a deep meaning of the photo. The first photo
shows a mysterious wardrobe that stands in the middle of some nowhere desert. The wardrobe is
surrounded by cloud and fog. The sky is not clear, and it does not present the sky blue color. Instead,
the sky is cloudy and gloomy. It seems like some important but mysterious event is in prepare to

with fake fog on it. He carefully uses his right hand to spill the fog around the wardrobe, and he uses
his left hand to hold on to the stone and adjust the wardrobe. Third photo shows a camera in front of
the model. Model is put on a table in the beach, and it is put under the cloudy but not gloomy sky. The
camera stands so close to the wardrobe because the wardrobe is small. Then the photo is taken, and the
first photo appears. Photographer then change the background color of the first photo to make it seems

Prologue:
On the 20th of September, 1783, a family set out to sea. They were leaving their home in the new
USA, to return to what they considered their mother country, Great Britain. Throughout the ship s first
week out to sea, the sea was calm, with a good wind. However this soon changed. The family s second
out of four sons turned twelve on the 27th, exactly one week after they put to sea. On that day, the
weather took a turn for the worse. The boy was the first of passengers to notice the change when he
went up on deck, he noticed that something didn t feel right. He felt like there was some sort of

The Teachings and Influence of Bill Gothard
Introduction:
Influencing hundreds of thousands of people over the span of fifty years, Bill Gothard has become an
icon of Christian counseling in the United States and in the world at large. His work in determining
the basic conflicts in the hearts of people and his devotion to creating a Bible based community and
curriculum for homeschooling families has made him a powerful leader in the realm of Christian
counseling and teaching and has endeared him to many. His counseling style has affected thousands of
preachers and teachers who follow his methods, and so it is important to understand the principles
behind Gothard s doctrines. To fully understand Gothard s teachings, one must first understand the
world of psychological counseling. According to the American Counseling Association, counselors
help clients identify goals and potential solutions to problems which cause emotional turmoil... In
essence counseling helps people understand their problems and gives them tools to deal with these
issues. Although the goal of counseling remains the same across the board, the beliefs and
presuppositions of individual counselors affect the methods and techniques they implement in their
counseling. For the secular psychological counselor, the focus is ego centric. The goal of counseling is
to give the client a better life and a happier outlook on life so that he can achieve even greater things
for himself. For the Christian, the goal of counseling is to bring the client into a closer

Being Corrupted By Society In Lord Of The Flies By William...
Man is born completely innocent but they get corrupted by the society that surrounds them. No one
comes into the world evil but instead they get corrupted and change into a different person. Society
molds people into who they are, for the better or the worse. In Lord of the Flies by William Golding it
exemplifies how man is born innocent and gets corrupted by society.
First off, the kids themselves show how they have been corrupted by society on the island. The
children learn things from society, for example they form a leadership amongst themselves and create
a community. There were many arguments about the leadership and what the final decision should be.
Ralph thinks he is the final say and he shows this when Piggy says, You said you wanted things done.
So as we could be rescued. Ralph fires back at Piggy Oh, shut up! (65). This shows how Ralph has
been corrupted by society because he thinks he can boss everyone around and tell people what to do.
He probably learned this from other leaders he knows or researched about. Also, kids learn many
things from grown ups and people of higher authority. Being stranded on an island is very scary but
these kids apply what they have learned in society. Especially Piggy who is by far the most educated
of all of them. He explains to the others how, Grown ups know things, they ain t afraid of the dark.
They d meet up and have tea and discuss. Then things ud be all right (95). Piggy knows what adults do

Modern Day Era And Its Impact On Our Society
Humans have been communicating with each other as long as the human race can remember. It has
been the essences of our survival allowing us to be able to pass on our knowledge, express ideas, and
covey emotions. As time passed, we have learned different methods to communicate. For example, we
have learned to communicate with words and symbols which has helped us evolve and form a
foundation for our society. Words and symbols have allowed to us expand our ability to communicate
and the ability to express our ideas in a greater way. Typography has become one of the most
influential ways that we use to communicate in this modern day era; and it plays a major role in our
society. Typography essentially is found everywhere from posters to books, magazines to signs and
generally anywhere where type is involved. Now the history of type itself is quite long which
definitely states that type has come a long way and has a great history behind it. Two of the most well
known movements in type, which introduced new principals and brought change to type, would be the
Bauhaus movement and Futurist movement. These two movements have brought forth change and
principals that have influenced the typography work in todays world. In this essay I will be discussing
how the Bauhaus movement and the Futurist movement are different in terms of their philosophy of
type, the characteristics and works of art.
The philosophy of these two movements are different in terms of how they both follow

Frankenstein And Frankenstein Essay
Several fields have studied the relationship between creator and creation. The most significant aspect
of this research considers the difference between nature and nurture. Sociologists, psychologists,
scientists, and other professionals have tried to pin down the exact distinctions between these two
types of upbringings. In literature, the same questions have been asked and studied using fictional
characters, most famously in John Milton s Paradise Lost, in 1667, and Mary Shelley s Frankenstein,
in 1818. The complexity of the characters in these texts creates the theme of nature versus nurture
before they diverge and arrive at differing conclusions.
Many critics arose over the years to contest the main character of Milton s epic. Shelley, ... Show more

Due to his mistakes in creating his character of God, Shelley personified Victor Frankenstein as a cold
creator to provide a commentary on the harshness of Milton s God.
Some have called Milton s God evil and unloving such as Richard Bentley (Read). This criticism can
be attributed to the fact that Milton was cautious about creating a so called round character of God;
this caution caused this flat creator that has no real stake in creation. When the first words that God
speaks in Paradise Lost mock the fallen angels: Only begotten Son, seest thou what rage/ Transports
our adversary (Milton III . 80 ) it only confirms the fate that this character cannot be the hero of the
story. By doing this Milton created this malicious creator which inspired the cruelty that can clearly be
seen in Victor Frankenstein in terms of both his family and his creation. The use of cruelty in creators,
whether intentional or not determines the environment in which their creation lives.
Shelley draws inspiration from Milton s Paradise Lost not only for the vicious creator in the stories but
also the creations. In Milton s epic, God creates the father of humankind and the father of all demons.
The characterization of Frankenstein s monster highlights points of both Adam and Satan; even the
monster recognizes this within Shelley s work when he encounters Milton s

Women and the Agricultural Revolution Essay
Women and the Agricultural Revolution
Elise Boulding in her article, Women and the Agricultural Revolution, argues that women played a key
role in initiating the Agricultural Revolution. She defines the revolution as happening within two
stages: horticulture and agriculture proper. Women had a prominent role within the earlier form,
horticulture. Horticulture is defined as farming for subsistence only.Women s roles on the farm were
not as dominant as society grew to farming for surplus instead. Boulding begins the article by
discussing the shift society made from wandering nomads to settled villagers. She explains that it was
women who recognized that plants could be easily domesticated. It was because of the domestication
of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They did much of the planting and gathering, and Boulding states that women probably even
constructed the mud houses in the early villages. In this horticulture society, children also helped
women. They carryed out many chores on the farm, such as taking care of animals and gathering
grain. These roles would change as farming shifted to agriculture proper.
At horticulture stage, the farming of these early people was for the purpose of providing enough food
for the family. In these farms, women were able to farm the lands without much aid. Instead, they used
simple small hand tools to do the work. However, once the farms grew in size and they had a surplus
of food, they required more help.
Gradually, as the farms grew, there was a shift from merely farming to provide for the family, to
farming for economic profit as well. As a result, Boulding argues that women were no longer the main
workers on the farm. Women continued to help the development of the Agricultural Revolution
despite their role change. Originally, women used digging sticks for gathering, planting, and growing
plants. As the farming purpose changed, however, the tools changed as well.
The plow and animals were used for cultivation, making women less visible on the field.
Yet, women continued to help by creating baskets and discovering pottery, all of which enabled them
to store more grain.

Factors affecting Rates of a Reaction (Kinetics)
KINETICS DESIGN LAB
Research Question:
Does the concentration of Potassium Iodide (KI) affect the rate of its reaction with hydrogen peroxide
(H2O2) (of a fixed concentration)?
Introduction:
There are several factors that affect the rate of a reaction. Some of them being Pressure (if the
reactants are Gases), Temperature, Presence of a Catalyst, Surface Area of the reactant, and
Concentration. According to the Collision Theory, during a reaction, particles collide with each other
and react if the geometry of the collision is correct. In this Experiment, we will investigate the effect
of varying concentrations of Potassium Iodide on its reaction with ... Show more content on

The Potassium Iodide particles will increase and the frequency of their collisions with Hydrogen
Peroxide particles will also increase, causing them to react quicker.
I hypothesize that as I increase the concentration of the Potassium Iodide Solution, the rate at which
the blue black starch complex covers the X marking on the tile, will also increase until a point where
the rate will remain the same due to all the particles having already finished reacting.

However, this is not always the case. Figure 2 shows that satisfaction remains stable and on a quite

that high.
By contrast with the iPhone ad we should refer to the L Oreal ad showing world famous actress Julia
Roberts and model Christy Turlington. A complaint was placed by the MP Jo Swinson saying that it
was: not representative of the results the products could achieve (BBC, 2011). The ASA agreed with
the complaint saying that: If advertisers go too far in using airbrushing and other post production
techniques to alter the appearance of models and it s likely to mislead people, then that s wrong and
we ll stop the ads, (BBC, 2011). See full review of the complaint in Appendix B. L Oreal as well as
many other companies is looking for the possibility to attract new customers and maintain existing
ones. However, by imposing misleading advertising L Oreal creates, perhaps unintentionally,
extremely high customer expectations, which can lead to future dissatisfaction and loss in product
demand as the female audience is rather sensitive to questions concerning beauty and make up. L
Oreal s ads deliver the idea that by using an airbrush every woman would look as beautiful as the
above mentioned celebrities, unfortunately that could not happen due to the peculiarities of the

Moore Vs Hlobo
This essay will explore the contrasts and similarities that can be taken from two drawings. Henry
Moore s, Standing figures of 1940 and Nicholas Hlobo s, Macaleni Iintozomlambo of 2010. It will
discuss the comparisons that can be made about the colour schemes, composition and subject matter
of the pieces. This will also include an evaluation of how the time scales and influences of the period
have affected the final outcomes of the two artists. The two pieces actually share many more
similarities than first hits the eye after deconstructing all of the components listed.
Henry Moore is typically renowned for the many sculptures mused by the human form, typically the
female form. He began his artistic venture in 1919 where he attended Leeds School of art, here he met
Barbra Hepworth and was inspired greatly by her. He then received many scholarships leading to the
opportunity to travel around the world, it was early Mexican and Aztec that mostly inspired his work.
His first commissioned piece was in 1928 and named West Wind. In order to create his pieces he did
however create unfinished drawing plans of organic compositions that he could imagine creating to a
much larger scale. These were often many drawings to a page that overlapped showing the spontaneity

colours and using the thread to tell a story of the human inners and old folk tales. It isn t an obvious

Kosovo Essay
Kosovo
Kosovo is a southern province of Serbia, the core of the former Yugoslavia. Slobodan Milosevic is
currently president of Yugoslavia. He has been president in Serbia since 1989. In 1989, President
Slobodan Milosevic stripped Kosovo of its autonomous status and declared the Albanian language
unofficial. Yugoslavia came on the edge of economical collapse under his role. The crisis and war he
has started with Kosovo is his third war. Last year violence broke out between Serbian police (MUP)
and rebels known as the KLA, prior to that there were many years of political struggle between
Albanian organizations and the government of Serbia. NATO has decided to take military action after
unsuccessful peace talks with Milosevic. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both the KLA and the Serbs refused to accept the peace deal into two weeks of talks at Rambouillet.
In mid March, KLA accepted the peace deal, but the Serbs refused. Milosevic then escalated the crisis
by launching another large scale offensive in Kosovo. NATO s current air strike s today is the
principal objective in stopping and bringing down Milosevic. Up to a 100,000 ethnic Albanian men in
Kosovo of fighting age have vanished and may have been killed by Serbian forces. Serbian forces
have so far displaced 1.5 million ethnic Albanian men, women, and children in Kosovo . The air
campaign is working, but not as quickly as we hoped . We have conditions we have to follow
#8230;especially the need to limit civilian casualties, and those conditions degrade our own military
campaign . The rules the NATO military leaders were handed were: first, no casualties on our side;
second, no casualties on their side; and third, do it fast #8212;before public opinion at home collapses
completely. Ground troops are precisely what it would have taken from day one to achieve the West s
premier purpose: stopping mass slaughter and mass expulsion. The alliance went for bombing. To
avoid being hit, NATO s planes flew high, killing many of the civilians they came to protect. Ninety
percent of Yugoslavia s population is of Albanian rather than Serb origins. Kosovo

3.2 Competition
The coffee house sector has become one of the largest growing in food service. The competition does
not just start and end with nationalized coffee house chains, but also includes the smaller local coffee
house businesses.
On launching in the U.K. market, Dunkin Donuts would receive most competition from the already
established coffee house brands such as Starbucks, Costa Coffee, Caffé Nero, Puccino s and Coffee
Republic (Table 2, refer appendices).
3.3 Consumer expenditure
For Dunkin Donuts international market sales, they mainly focus on low income consumers, and its
major products (coffee, donuts) are affordable for UK s consumers. Looking at the following data, the
annual expenditure on coffee proves a strong purchasing power on coffee products. Based on this data,
it is significant for DD to note that the expenditure on the coffee, tea and cocoa in the UK grew by
27.7% from 1995 to 2007 (Euro Monitor, 2008) (Table 3, refer appendices).
3.4 Coffee Consumption

Define Happiness In America
Studies have shown, only 1 in 3 Americans are very happy with their life. The two thirds that are not
happy tend to believe one of two things: that they are not happy because they do not own or have as
many things compared to another person, and because they fill their inner void of happiness with
money. The truth is money can buy many, many things, except happiness. What is happiness? In order
to define yourself as happy or not you must understand the the definition of happiness. For example, if
another person considers themselves happy you may believe that in order to be happy you must have
what they have.Well, according to BBC, happiness is a complex state of mind where your
physiological and physical needs are met. This means many people

Theme Of Politics And The English Language By George Orwell
George Orwell s 1946 essay, Politics and the English Language, brings forth themes of deception,
honesty, and political bias through the eyes of the author himself. Orwell begins the narrative by
refuting standard assumptions of the English Language, and that language is a reflection of the shape
of society. Our civilization is decadent and our language so the argument runs must inevitably share in
the general collapse (127). The essay s deeper concerns of how language is shifting and perhaps
limiting expression are troubling yet serves as a reminder of Orwell s Newspeak in 1984. Orwell s
extensive use of metaphors, similes, and imagery depict his growing concerns of contemporary
writing styles.
Orwell s introduction gives insight into his beliefs of the collapse of the English language through his
distaste for meaningless words. Most people who bother with the matter at all would admit that the
English language is in a bad way, but it is generally assumed that we cannot by conscious action do
anything about it (127). He argues that English is a tool and its erosion is human made rather than a
natural process. Orwell further suggests simplifying language without convoluting the meaning.
Complex words such as loquacious or ebullient could be better understood by readers if simplified to
talkative or cheerful. The essay begins to shift its focus from Orwell s view of contemporary English
to bringing five examples of written pieces that exemplify the prior

Write An Essay On Rangers Report Papers
Title: Rangers Report
Welcome to the first week of Rangers Report, where I will take a look at some of the past
performances by players in the past week, and do a quick little recap on how the past week has gone
for the team.
The Rangers will need strong performances night in and night out in order to make the playoffs. Every
game is incredibly critical, and the difference between winning the AL West and gaining a Wild Card
spot is huge. If the Rangers win the West, then they will be guaranteed a spot in the ALDS where they
will get to play in a five game series. If they only get a WC spot, then they will find themselves in a
one game playoff, which anything can happen in a one game playoff. Not only that, but Cole

He commanded the srikezone, walking no one, and kept A s hitters off balance all night. Of the 29
batters he faced, he struck out four and induced 17 batters to fly out. Lewis is at his best when he is
able to get hitters to hit lazy popups, and that is exactly what he did this past week.
Cold: Delino DeShields
I m a huge DeShields fan, what he has brought to the table has been absolutely huge for the Rangers.
His ability to swipe bags and be a threat on the base paths is something this lineup needed, and he has
certainly brought it. That being said, DeShields has struggled over the course of the past week.
DeShields is hitting a putrid .154 (2 for 13) with a double and two runs scored. His six strikeouts in
the past five games is also a cause for concern, especially when you consider the speed he possesses.
That speed being said, it is also a little alarming that he hasn t had a stolen base over the past ten
games. But not all hope is lost for DeShields, as he has an OBP of .353 over the past week. So while
he is still getting on base, you would love to see him generating a few more chances.

Taking a Look at Four-Dimensionalism
Four dimensionalism is often seen in the field of metaphysics as a strong and sound solution to many
puzzles. Whether that s the Antinomy of Constitution, the Ship of Theseus, or the Paradox of Increase,
four dimensionalism always appears as a probable solution. But, four dimensionalism is not the all
powerful solution it appears to be at first glance. The theory itself has many repercussions if it is taken
to be true, leading me to dispute its overall validity. So what exactly is the four dimensional theory?
To begin, we must understand what the dimensions of our world are. We experience the first three
dimensions on a daily basis; namely, length, width, and height. These three dimensions are typically
referred to as the spatial dimensions. The next, fourth, dimension is then considered to be time. We
cannot specifically see time but we know that time is continually moving forward and we are subject
to its progression. Four dimensionalism then exclaims that objects consist of all four dimensions,
splitting objects into spatial and temporal parts. We see the spatial components when we look at an
object but the temporal component is harder to see. Essentially, the four dimensionalist believes that
an object is never wholly present at one instance in time but rather consists of the spatial components
and all of the temporal components. This is seen as the theory of perdurance and is accepted by four
dimensionalists (Lewis). So when we hold an object, say a

Some of them are successful brand on the market today, however, there are some that haven t had much luck and had to close their doors. Today I will be talking about the automotive company Oldsmobile. I will be talking about the history of the brand, where did the company started, the target market, the most popular unit sold, the reason I ve picket Oldsmobile. Oldsmobile was created in 1897 by a man named Ransom E. Olds, Ransom was born in Geneva, Ohio on June 3rd 1864 he passed away on August 26th 1950 at the age of 86. Ransom founded the company called Olds Motor Vehicle Company in Lansing, Michigan on August 21, 1897. Not to long after ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was a huge year for Oldsmobile. The key makes of their sales was their designe, the costumers review and also their reliability of their popular Rocket V8 engine. Then in 1976 Oldsmobile was the America s bestselling car on the market. The company was so popular that they displace some of its competitor as the 3rd best selling automotive brand in the United States behind Ford and Chevrolet. Later in 1977, General Motors was starting to struggle with Oldsmobile, they eventually had to change their V8 engine with the Chevrolet 350engine because of the Federal emissions specifications. This has started a public relations nightmare with GM. However they never stop trying to do something new, in 1978 Oldsmobile came out with a 5.7L V8 diesel engine on optional vehicle like the Delta 88 and 98. Also, they came out with a 4.3L V8 ... • 3. We Must Learn from the Holocaust The holocaust is not only humanities darkest hour, but also one of the most educational experiences that ever occurred. Failure is not something good, but you should always learn from it. This also applies to the holocaust. The thing we should have known before the holocaust was that before punishing someone, think of the choice they did or didn t have in the matter. The Germans failed to do this when they brutally persecuted the jews. The people caught in the middle didn t realize that the Germans were wrong in their persecution, and the jews actually forgave the children of the holocaust because they were raised to only know one thing and didn t know that they had a choice. The Germans were wrong in their persecution of the jews for many reasons. They didn t think about why they were persecuting jews, who sometimes were only persecuted because someone in their family was a jew. The Germans didn t even think about why they were taking land from other countries. People believed that Hitler would honor his agreement not to take land from France, but He said the same thing about Poland six months ago (page 43). This quote refrences an argument between Alfons and his mother in the book Parrallell journeys. Alfons was a young kid who was loyal to hitler while many of his family memebers were not. Alfons believed Hitler s every word, but his family could see the lies that he said. Alfons was not the only one to have blind leadership in Htiler. There were many who believed his ... • 4. What Was The Role Of Communication In American Civilization The ability for the common person to write and read opens new worlds of possibilities while also influencing common writing materials. Increasing communication between all cultivates a unified and peaceful society. The written word is such a powerful tool, in fact, civilizations have chosen at times to limit the number and type of people who could comprehend it. Being able to read and write enabled shifts in the class system by accelerating the learning process and enabling speedy career training. For universal literacy, commoners must be able to access affordable and quick to use writing materials. In the Sumerian Civilization, written word was revered and feared. Very few people could read or write and the idea of becoming a literate civilization was discouraged. Because of this, a distinct class of writers was formed. These writers were called scribes and were taught to write what they were told to write, word for word and read without personal bias or elaboration. For the privacy of their masters, scribes were not to add their own thoughts or think about the content they were inscribing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Scribes were trained from a young age and taught that loyalty to master and secrecy of trade paved the road to success. Arvin explains the path students must take to become scribes by saying, Tuition was paid for by the student s father, who came from the higher classes; if he was not a scribe himself he was a military officer, a high official, or an accountant. A few women became scribes, but most students were boys, and they attended school from sunrise to sunset until they reached adulthood (77). • 5. Analysis Of Being A Man Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, or so it seems. Society implements the standard of beauty in our everyday lives. It controls what roles women are expected to perform. A similar anticipation goes for men, but for masculinity . Every individual man is supposed to be masculine and have some sort of manly quality. Paul Theroux in Being a Man discusses how as a male, one is expected to meet society s standards of masculinity. He as well mentions his reasoning on why that principle of behavior is invalid. Theroux argues that men have it just as bad as women do when it comes to fulfilling society s ideal image. Naomi Wolf in The Beauty Myth however, believes women have it harder to live up to society s idealistic femininity, and the beauty myth is a restriction. It is more difficult to fit into society s beauty standards as a woman than it is for a man to live up to a manly nature Living life in society as a man has its hardships. In order to be considered a man in society, a male must fit the ideal criteria. Paul Theroux argues that society s standard of masculinity for a man is just as challenging as femininity is for a woman. According to Theroux, the expression Be a man! strikes me as insulting and abusive. It means: Be stupid, be unfeeling, obedient, soldierly, and stop thinking (1). Having such cold and negative qualities is unappealing, yet it is expected. If a man decides not to follow these norms, then he is subjected to scrutiny. For example, Theroux ... • 7. Zechariah s The Riddle Of The Annunciation With the initial exchange between Mary and the Angel resolved, this discussion now turns its attention to the central point of the Annunciation passage, the announcement of Christ, and Mary s confusion at this pronouncement. To truly understand that scriptural passage, it is necessary to discuss the possible reasons for what has been called The Riddle of the Annunciation, that is, why a girl who is betrothed to be married and, presumably, understands the origin of children, questions how the Angel s announcement could pertain to her. The simplest explanation to this question is also the least satisfying. This is that, for some reason, Mary is ignorant of the way children are conceived. This does not seem to fit any reasonable reading of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He points out that the annunciation format itself generally requires an objecting question. This could partially explain Zechariah s objection in the previous story in Luke which this is designed to parallel. However, Landry goes on to note that such a clunky and unreasonable objection does not seem to fit. Elsewhere, Luke does not hold himself so slavishly to formal patterns that he damages the flow of his story. It seems that if Luke were slavishly following the formal pattern for an annunciation, he would have picked an objection that would not be so confusing or even indecipherable to his reader. In fact, Landry asserts with Schaberg that those who immediately jump to Luke simply slavishly following the annunciation format have given up too soon on the logic of the story. This discussion agrees with that conclusion; the literary solution ignores Luke s actual text and simply takes the easy solution to sidestep rather than address this question. A rejection of the literary solution to the riddle is further supported elsewhere in Luke s own Gospel, and these will be discussed later within the discussion of solutions that reject historicity of the virgin birth ... When you hear, or say that term, the visual that may come to mind may be: criminal, old western movie, or even a comparison to a relationship. But in relation to the movie Wanted it stands for nothing but a guy that wanted no more in life but to find his purpose. A lot of us in this world never actually find our purpose in life, we just kind of settle for what we are able to do. We go through trials and tribulations to find ourselves, and find anything that will make our lives more satisfying, including putting ourselves in harms way to do it. This film stars Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman, and James McAvoy, which names all scream a killer movie to me. The theme represented in this movie is not only deceit and lack of ... The first theme demonstrated in this movie is Perseverance, which was illustrated in the film by Wesley, and his determination to go through all the physical test to meet standards of the fraternity. His whole intention throughout the movie was to prove that he could become more than what he always has considered himself, which is below average. When Wesley was in training he got beat up by multiple people in the fraternity, in an attempt to make him physically strong to stand anything. He learned tasks including fighting, knife work, and also how to curve a bullet. When he was learning to curve the bullet Sloan, played by Morgan Freeman, states The first time in your life Wesley, you are in control (Bekmambetov, Wanted ). As he shoots multiple bullets and still pierces the wrong target, Fox then stands in the middle of him and the target and says, shoot the target (Bekmambetov, Wanted ). As hesitant as he was he knew he had to have confidence in himself to complete the task. As he shoots around Fox, not knowing if the bullet would hit her, he takes his shot and hits the correct target. Sloan then says Welcome to the fraternity (Bekmambetov, Wanted ). He then knew all his hard work had paid off! That part of the movie showed strength and perseverance. Another way both themes, deceit and perseverance, were shown was at the end of the movie when ... Business Models Of Priceline And Greentoe Introduction There are lots of business models that are used in our society today, such as: Product Service Customization, Online Auctions, Group Purchasing, Affiliate Marketing, Find The Best Price, Name Your Own Price, and Social Networking Web 2.0 Tools. According to How Things Work and Entrepreneur, the Name Your Own Price business model is the top model to use not only when opening up a starter business but in the business world period (2014, 2009). Priceline and Greentoe are two of the most well known business that use the NYOP business model and are now described as the top ranked travel and shopping sites in the United States . (Laudon Traver, 2014, p. 718) Background The concept of the NYOP model is to allow the consumer to set the initial bid for the service, or product, they desire. The price can then increase based on the willingness of the consumer to haggle in order to get the good or service. The company, Priceline, first initiated the Name Your Own Price e commerce business model. Priceline s grown profit margins of $956 million in 2008 (Hinz, 2011), secured the acceptance and success of the NYOP model. Although, there is a high profit margin, the NYOP business model is limited to products such as the ones offered by Priceline. • 10. Leadership Reflective Essay The three most important things that I have learned are based on the foundation of systems theory. Communities are made of a giant system and immeasurable subsystems acting and reacting with one another. When the various systems become unstable, resulting needs arise. Often, there are so many contributions to an issue; one has a great deal of difficulty understanding the source of the problem. Rather, the primary importance is accepting the relationships between individuals and environments. Communities must recognize that those within the system are responsible for taking the steps to provide stability for existence and intervening to strengthen existing structures (Homan, 2011). It is very easy to be distracted by other problems within the larger concern. Focus is crucial to progress and success. Chapter 11 provides many suggestions on ways in Selecting issues for action (Homan, 2011, p. 335). The text also stresses the development of leadership as an essential component of organizational development. Homan (2011) explains that Leadership provides a sense of confidence to members of an organization or group (p. 346). This content is something that I had not fully conceptualized in the past, but in evaluating previous experiences with leadership, I can now see a trend in the high value of positive leadership roles. This is an area that I will definitely carry new knowledge and consideration in future endeavors. The course content referring to the strategies of confrontation, negotiation, collaboration, and advocacy is beneficial and interesting. In particular, confrontation is an approach of which I personally avoid as much as possible, so the outline, guidelines, and strategies contained in the text are great empowerment tools. After learning more about the confrontation tool, I was able to identify its use as being relatively successful concerning local events. Specifically, there was a lot of speculation and outrage involving the Department of Children and Family Services regarding the death of Emani Moss, the 10 year ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The advancement of air technology during the early twentieth century, brought about by the initiation of World War One, has posed significant questions about the role and value of aeronautics in major world tragedies, such as the September 11 Attacks in New York City and Washington D.C., and the 1991 Air Campaign of the Gulf War: Does the continuous advancement of aeronautics serve as the true mastermind of such acts of savagery and tragedy? Is the advancement of aeronautics the culprit responsible for the deaths of the elderly, women, infants, and children? However, due to their penetrable material and large frame, they did not long withstand the ever improving period of air warfare, and immediately were replaced with smaller, more durable aircraft. At the beginning of the war, airplanes did not have the capacity to carry crews, as well as weapons. If airmen had attempted to carry anything other than the crew on the planes, they would have carried the severe risk of negatively affecting the performance of the plane, which would result in detrimental effects on reconnaissance. However, as the war progressed, the idea of airplanes being utilized merely for reconnaissance purposes was deferred as a result of the rapid rate of growth in aeronautics. Soon, airplanes were being used to carry crews, weapons, and military supplies. Along with the advancement of airplanes came the advancement of strategical tactics used in order to prevent the primary purpose of airplanes during World War One: reconnaissance. One of the most significant advancements in aeronautics as a result of the occurrence of World War One was the arrival of air bombers. The arrival of air bombers occurred after aircrafts finally had the capacity to carry crews, weapons, and military supplies without the performance of the airplane being affected. • 12. The Disappearance Of The Roanoke Island Colony America s past is a mysterious one, riddled with unsolved questions and misleading legends. One of the most prominent enigmas that has haunted historians for centuries is the disappearance of the Roanoke Island Colony, also known to many as The Lost Colony. After leaving for three years, the governor of Roanoke Island, John White, returned to find the settlement abandon. The only remaining clue was the word CROATOAN carved into a fence post and the letters CRO etched into a nearby tree. Several diverse theories have been suggested to explain the disappearance of the 120 missing colonist, ranging from disease to natural disaster. Any evidence supporting the various theories is weak, at best. However, the clues left behind point to the assimilation theory which proposes the colonists integrated with the natives, as the Croatoan had been a friendly Native American tribe in the area. Furthermore, the majority of new facts and the strongest evidence support the assimilation theory as well. Other common theories have numerous flaws in their logic that make them highly improbable. It is because the only sign the colony left behind indicates assimilation, any new or outside evidence discovered also serves to further prove assimilation, and all other theories suffer major inaccuracies that assimilation is the most probable theory. At the time, I was thirteen years old and still had a strong notion that my dad would eventually come and join us in Bel Air, Maryland, where we had moved to during the summer of 2006. However, towards the end of the summer, I slowly came to terms with the fact that I would not be living with my father the way I had before. Through interactions with my new predominantly white middle school friends, I was exposed to a wider variety of genres such as metal, rock (classic and new age), punk, and pop. At the time, I believed I just listened to this new genre music because it was new and what my friends listened to, however, now I realize it was a potential mechanism for me to separate myself from the familial turmoil I was facing at the time. Not only did it have dynamic rhythms, but the song also had a lot of contrast in the melodic elements as well, a musical idea that, according to Mike Rugnetta, is responsible for the emotional we feel in response to music. In addition, I believe I honed in on this song and the surrounding genre because of the masculinity associated with the song. Beast and Harlot , in music at least (the video had some feminine elements, however, the video was not released at the time), had all the elements of masculinity similar to elements we discussed in class. • 16. The s Theory Of Knowledge As human beings, we have the natural propensity to acquire knowledge from our evolving environment, through different ways of knowing such as perception, reason, emotion and language. Knowledge can be defined as information acquired from experience or education or the awareness of a situation. Thus, denoting experience, education and awareness as the roots of knowledge. Consequently, if a knower is not able to experience an event or be educated, the concept of knowledge may cease to exist. Therefore, in order for a knower to experience an event, they must acknowledge their individual perspective of the event, to ascertain the extent in which the knowledge presented to them is beneficial or irrelevant. To address the titular statement, one must acknowledge what is meant by the Knower s perspective . The knower s perspective can be defined as a series of events enforced on an individual that causes them to perceive animate, inanimate objects and knowledge claims with a certain unique viewpoint. Thus, this essay aims to explore the knowledge question: To what extent is the knower s (individuals) perspective important in acquiring knowledge ? The knower s perspective can be manipulated by numerous factors such as indigenous knowledge, shaping their perspective to a more shared viewpoint. This is significant as it highlights how the knower s perspective could be considered convoluted, due to the factors that make it a universal perspective, therefore, making the knower s ... Now after twenty years and being given the title of an evidence based practice, researchers have come up with a holistic approach in treating co occurring disorders. Funding Tender Of Cash Value Benefits Several years ago, Texas WIC formed operational and technical workgroups to discuss the feasibility of adding split tender of Cash Value Benefits (CVB) as optional functionality for Smartcard WIC to enable WIC clients to use the full amount of CVB prescribed to them. The technical workgroup recommended another feature, benefit reversal, be added for situations where WIC clients didn t have the additional funds available to purchase items that would be split tendered with WIC benefits in the transaction. The X9.131 standard was adopted by the X9 committee in early 2015 and published through ANSI. As the WIC stakeholders were doing the work necessary to prepare developers for the split tender mandate, the credit card industry was also mandating changes in the retail world. Retailers would have to implement all changes necessary to handle chip and PIN EMV cards prior to October 1, 2015 or assume the liability for all fraudulent transactions where the mag stripe was swiped on an EMV capable card. As developers scrambled to meet this deadline (of which many failed), the implementation dates continued to slip which also delayed development efforts for the WIC benefit reversal development. Texas WIC was notified by Kroger on April 15, 2016 that the software delivery for split tender and benefit reversal would be delayed until early 2017. In 1933 the Nazis passed the Nuremberg laws. The first rule of order was to prohibit Jews from holding public office. This is only the first step in their plot to diminish the Jewish community. More laws then came. In 1935, the Nuremberg laws took German citizenship away from the Jews. He set up a plan called the Final Solution in 1939. This was a perfect example of pure genocide. At this point, Hitler not only wanted to rid Germany of Jews, but anyone who is not a part of the so called Aryan race. The SS, Hitler s elite security force, rounded up thousands upon thousands of men, woman, children, and even newborns; and took them to concentration camps. The Nazis used psychological torture tactics on the captives. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM What were the causes for the excess and the abandonment of equipment for Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom? BACKGROUND Most logistical tacticians have a tendency to review historical documents before developing strategies to deploy and redeploy troops and equipment. This common practice is very successful to deploying soldiers and equipment, but historically there is a lack of emphasis on the redeployment, or retrograde of equipment. The soldiers are undoubtedly brought home; nonetheless antiquity shows us equipment is sometimes not a priority to return. Logistic American retrograde issues were first publically noticed in 1847 following war with Mexico. A published Army bulletin revealed property divesting as an issue and needed a high priority because of the great loss of left behind equipment. Again after World Wars I and II, the military had immense amounts of equipment scattered across the Pacific and Europe. There was no specific need for the equipment after the war, and much of it was abandoned in place, and although lack of retrograde operations occurred, the abandoned equipment turned useful in supporting the Korean War. Logisticians learning their lessons from previous wars, vowed to not be unprepared while entering the Vietnam War. Specialized programs and systems were established to document, classify and store all equipment entering Vietnam. Continental Army Command initialized the program STOP/SEE to ... His childhood years were spent at his family chateau in the southwest of France where he broke both of his legs and therefore stunted his growth. This left him ill proportioned and dwarfish. This unfortunate event probably helped his artistic ability as he spent most of his time on his own. The painting includes his favourite clown Cha u kao who he painted many times before. This early example of Lautrec s caricature and graphic style shows the ringmaster and a bareback rider at one of the famous Montmatre circuses. The people at the Moulin Rouge thought so highly of the painting that it was hung in the dancehall from the opening night. The exaggerated features and silhouetted suit tails of the ringmaster make it look as if he has been cut out and stuck down in an appropriate position on the circus floor. I admired this painting because I liked the way he incorporated the sense of movement into the painting by firstly painting the horse when it was in the middle of a stride with its hooves in the air and secondly how he painted the rim of the circus in a curve, which gave a good effect. I was attracted to this painting because it is full of life and colour. Lautrec uses bright colours when he is painting the seating and the background, which contrasts with the relatively dull colours of the ringmaster and horse. Lautrec makes the dancer on the horse stand out by painting a dull green entrance wall behind the strong yellow hair of the dancer, which attracts your attention. In Lord of the Flies by William Golding it exemplifies how man is born innocent and gets corrupted by society. First off, the kids themselves show how they have been corrupted by society on the island. The children learn things from society, for example they form a leadership amongst themselves and create a community. There were many arguments about the leadership and what the final decision should be. Ralph thinks he is the final say and he shows this when Piggy says, You said you wanted things done. It has been the essences of our survival allowing us to be able to pass on our knowledge, express ideas, and covey emotions. As time passed, we have learned different methods to communicate. For example, we have learned to communicate with words and symbols which has helped us evolve and form a foundation for our society. Words and symbols have allowed to us expand our ability to communicate and the ability to express our ideas in a greater way. Typography has become one of the most influential ways that we use to communicate in this modern day era; and it plays a major role in our society. Typography essentially is found everywhere from posters to books, magazines to signs and generally anywhere where type is involved. Now the history of type itself is quite long which definitely states that type has come a long way and has a great history behind it. Two of the most well known movements in type, which introduced new principals and brought change to type, would be the Bauhaus movement and Futurist movement. These two movements have brought forth change and principals that have influenced the typography work in todays world. In this essay I will be discussing how the Bauhaus movement and the Futurist movement are different in terms of their philosophy of type, the characteristics and works of art. In this essay, I will examine different examples of myth that are present in these films, what they mean, and offer an explanation for why they are significant. Instead of the Holocaust it is called the occupation and it ends with the death of over 10 million people, often in camps. Even more so, the people commiting this genocide, the Cardassians, were bankrupt, and forced into wars for agricultural land, with the rise of a new fascist leader they began conquest. • 36. Frankenstein And Frankenstein Essay Several fields have studied the relationship between creator and creation. The most significant aspect of this research considers the difference between nature and nurture. Sociologists, psychologists, scientists, and other professionals have tried to pin down the exact distinctions between these two types of upbringings. In literature, the same questions have been asked and studied using fictional characters, most famously in John Milton s Paradise Lost, in 1667, and Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, in 1818. The complexity of the characters in these texts creates the theme of nature versus nurture before they diverge and arrive at differing conclusions. Many critics arose over the years to contest the main character of Milton s epic. Shelley, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to his mistakes in creating his character of God, Shelley personified Victor Frankenstein as a cold creator to provide a commentary on the harshness of Milton s God. Some have called Milton s God evil and unloving such as Richard Bentley (Read). This criticism can be attributed to the fact that Milton was cautious about creating a so called round character of God; this caution caused this flat creator that has no real stake in creation. When the first words that God speaks in Paradise Lost mock the fallen angels: Only begotten Son, seest thou what rage/ Transports our adversary (Milton III . 80 ) it only confirms the fate that this character cannot be the hero of the story. By doing this Milton created this malicious creator which inspired the cruelty that can clearly be seen in Victor Frankenstein in terms of both his family and his creation. The use of cruelty in creators, whether intentional or not determines the environment in which their creation lives. Shelley draws inspiration from Milton s Paradise Lost not only for the vicious creator in the stories but also the creations. In Milton s epic, God creates the father of humankind and the father of all demons. The characterization of Frankenstein s monster highlights points of both Adam and Satan; even the monster recognizes this within Shelley s work when he encounters Milton s ... She defines the revolution as happening within two stages: horticulture and agriculture proper. Women had a prominent role within the earlier form, horticulture. Horticulture is defined as farming for subsistence only.Women s roles on the farm were not as dominant as society grew to farming for surplus instead. They did much of the planting and gathering, and Boulding states that women probably even constructed the mud houses in the early villages. In this horticulture society, children also helped women. They carryed out many chores on the farm, such as taking care of animals and gathering grain. These roles would change as farming shifted to agriculture proper. At horticulture stage, the farming of these early people was for the purpose of providing enough food for the family. In these farms, women were able to farm the lands without much aid. Instead, they used simple small hand tools to do the work. However, once the farms grew in size and they had a surplus of food, they required more help. Gradually, as the farms grew, there was a shift from merely farming to provide for the family, to farming for economic profit as well. As a result, Boulding argues that women were no longer the main workers on the farm. Women continued to help the development of the Agricultural Revolution despite their role change. Originally, women used digging sticks for gathering, planting, and growing plants. As the farming purpose changed, however, the tools changed as well. The plow and animals were used for cultivation, making women less visible on the field. Yet, women continued to help by creating baskets and discovering pottery, all of which enabled them to store more grain. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Theme Of Politics And The English Language By George Orwell George Orwell s 1946 essay, Politics and the English Language, brings forth themes of deception, honesty, and political bias through the eyes of the author himself. Orwell begins the narrative by refuting standard assumptions of the English Language, and that language is a reflection of the shape of society. Our civilization is decadent and our language so the argument runs must inevitably share in the general collapse (127). The essay s deeper concerns of how language is shifting and perhaps limiting expression are troubling yet serves as a reminder of Orwell s Newspeak in 1984. Orwell s extensive use of metaphors, similes, and imagery depict his growing concerns of contemporary writing styles. Orwell s introduction gives insight into his beliefs of the collapse of the English language through his distaste for meaningless words. Most people who bother with the matter at all would admit that the English language is in a bad way, but it is generally assumed that we cannot by conscious action do anything about it (127). He argues that English is a tool and its erosion is human made rather than a natural process. Orwell further suggests simplifying language without convoluting the meaning. Complex words such as loquacious or ebullient could be better understood by readers if simplified to talkative or cheerful. Whether that s the Antinomy of Constitution, the Ship of Theseus, or the Paradox of Increase, four dimensionalism always appears as a probable solution. But, four dimensionalism is not the all powerful solution it appears to be at first glance. The theory itself has many repercussions if it is taken to be true, leading me to dispute its overall validity. So what exactly is the four dimensional theory? To begin, we must understand what the dimensions of our world are. We experience the first three dimensions on a daily basis; namely, length, width, and height. These three dimensions are typically referred to as the spatial dimensions. The next, fourth, dimension is then considered to be time. We cannot specifically see time but we know that time is continually moving forward and we are subject to its progression. Four dimensionalism then exclaims that objects consist of all four dimensions, splitting objects into spatial and temporal parts. We see the spatial components when we look at an object but the temporal component is harder to see. Essentially, the four dimensionalist believes that an object is never wholly present at one instance in time but rather consists of the spatial components and all of the temporal components. This is seen as the theory of perdurance and is accepted by four dimensionalists (Lewis). So when we hold an object, say a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
