Holography (from the Greek, whole + write) is the
science of producing holograms.
Holography is the method we use to record patterns of
light. These patterns are reproduced as a three dimensional
image called a holographic projection.
Hungarian physicist Dennis Gabor invented the
hologram in 1947.
Today’s new technology provides some outstanding
advantages to not only everyday consumers but also large
business corporations and governments.
A hologram is a recording in a two- or three-dimensional
medium of the interference pattern formed when a point source of
light (the reference beam) of fixed wavelength encounters light of
the same fixed wavelength arriving from an object (the object
beam). When the hologram is illuminated by the reference beam
alone, the diffraction pattern recreates the wave fronts of light
from the original object. Thus, the viewer sees an image
indistinguishable from the original object.
A holographic projector, also known as
holoprojector uses holographic technology to project
large-scale, high-resolution images, at different focal
distances, from a relatively small-scale projection device
With many of the latest big budget cinema
releases being available in 3D, and everyone talking
about the 3D future of television, many eyes are
starting to focus on 3D hologram projections without
the glasses!
To make a basic hologram, all you need is:
1.A laser (Generally Helium-Neon)
2. Lenses
3.A beam splitter
4.Mirror
5.A holographic film
6.The object whose hologram
is being generated.
The same theory as mentioned above is used in the projector
shown below. When we press the ‘ON’ button the shutter in
front of the laser opens and the object stored in it is projected.




This works just like touch screen
mechanisms that we learnt in our
Computer Graphics in the 4th
semester. The point at which the
pattern is disturbed is noted by
the processor (As this feature is
available only in Computer
generated holograms) and the
programmed action is taken. As
in case of the globe shown
previously, it is supposed to
rotate when interfered.
You can describe all of the

object and reference beams,
as well as the shapes of the
interference fringes, using
mathematical equations.
This makes it possible to
program a computer to print a
pattern onto a holographic
plate, creating a hologram of
an object that doesn’t actually
exist.

converted to a digital format.
If it can be converted to a digital format, then it can be
transmitted via a suitable medium.
If it can be transmitted, then it can also be regenerated on other
end using a DAC or similar modules.
If it can be processed like this, then it can also be modified or
programmed by use of microprocessors and programming
languages.
If this is possible, then making holograms for required purposes
will be as simple as drawing a picture in paint and sending it to a
receiver will be as simple as sending an email.
If it can be made this flexible using Computers, then we can say
that in the near future computers will be the backbone of
Holography in the near future!
Now we sugar coat it and call it :

with the good? What about reduced privacy, the financial imbalance
that can occur due to its abilities? In what ways can it be misused?
Is this great amount of technology
really an advantage to human beings?
A lot of questions unanswered!
