The Debate Of Public Livestock Grazing
Western United States was unsettled by Americans in early the years. After the Civil War, known as
the era of homesteading, was designed by the government to promote the settlement of the western
states. Because there was a lack of understanding of the arid ecosystems and the increase of westward
settlement, western public rangelands were overgrazed. This in turn caused unintended damage to soil,
plants, streams, and springs. In 1934 the Taylor Grazing Act was passed by Congress to create grazing
districts that were portioned and regulated. In the 1960s and the 1970s public appreciation for public
lands increased. This advertently caused the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to modify land
grazing permits so that endangered species, sensitive plants, and cultural or historical objects can be
preserved. (A Brief History of Public Lands Grazing, Bureau of Land Management)
Still today the debate of public livestock grazing continues. There is much tension between farmers,
wildlife and environmental activists, the government, and the Bureau of Land Management. Farmers
say public livestock grazing production is economically beneficial. Wildlife and environmental
activist argue that this grazing harms the wildlife and their ecosystems. The government sees other
ways to use the land that would increase economic benefits. BLM is trying their best to make sure
everyone is happy. I should be allowed to research the controversy that surrounds livestock grazing on
public lands because:

Incineration Essay
cineration is the process of the destruction of waste by converting the organic material to carbon
dioxide and water vapour by fire leaving only the ash and non combustibles to dispose in the landfill
(http://www.saincinerator.com). Ash is the incombustible inorganic residue after the waste has been
destructed by means of incineration. Incineration is another method that is used for reduction of waste
in the form of burning waste leaving smaller amount of ash. The incinerators can be in the form of oil,
gas, coal fire or when burning high BTU waste such as paper, need no auxiliary fuel
(http://www.sainincinerator.com).
Incineration can also refer as waste treatment technology, which includes the combustion of waste for

The aim of this study was to assess the characterization of MSWI from facilities with different air
pollution control systems. Analysis of traces metals from ash was performed by two different
procedures, which differs according to method used. The objective was to obtain by total digestion

arise depending on digestion protocol performed, which often is not well specified in legal or even

Marilyn Grief
Attachment, expectedness, and grief accumulation, are important variables that impact the way an
individual experiences grief, further influencing the way they heal (Golden, 2000). Marilyn is
experiencing circumstances that influence how she is grieving. Her son, who was a major part of her
life, died unexpectedly in a car accident. Additionally, she is experiencing accumulated grief from a
lack of closure after her father passed away. Golden (2000) reports that when an individual loses
someone they are very attached to they will experience a greater degree of grief. Furthermore, if the
loss was unexpected, such as a car accident, the grief will be significantly different than if it was
expected. Another important factor in the grieving process focuses on the presence of accumulated
grief. If grief isn t acknowledged and/or dealt with, it can have an impact on everyday life and can
affect the way an individual copes with other grief occurrences (Golden, 2000). Marilyn still has
unresolved issues revolving around her parents divorce and subsequent death of her father. ... Show

and the residual grief that exists from her father s death. Counseling should be implemented to

Feeling responsible for a child s safety and well being is a normal process. However, feelings of guilt
and powerlessness can permeate the healing process and complicate grief when a child dies (Matzo

unique circumstances surrounding her son s death, thus allowing her to move from chaos to

Huckleberry Finn Satire Essay
I heard an owl, away off, who whooing about somebody that was dead, and a whippo will and a dog
crying about somebody that was going to die; and the wind was trying to whisper something to me,
and I couldn t make out what it was (Twain 13). Twain often ridicules American society in the early
1800 s. He pokes fun at various subjects throughout the novel, such as human brutality, women s roles
in society, and slavery within christianity. Satire plays a major role in Mark Twain s classic novel, The
Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.
As the novel begins, Huck is living with a woman, Miss Watson,a religious christian figure. Upon
further research, it became clear that religion played a dominant role on views of slavery. Many slaves

Sociology Essay On Cult
There is no universally agreed definition of the word cult , it is only rarely used as a self description
and does not refer to any particular belief system. Since the 1920s, the word cult has most commonly
been used to designate a minority religious group whose beliefs and practices an outside observer
views as dangerous or strange.
There are different varieties of cults, the Moonies, the Children of God, Eckankar, the Hare Krishna,
and Scientology are a few. Basically, there are two main types of cults, those with Christian based
beliefs, and those with Eastern Religion based beliefs.
Some organizations have issued checklists with characteristics of destructive cults . From a
sociological perspective, many of these lists contain value judgements which are arguably a matter of
opinion rather than fact, e.g. a cult is a group with a manipulative leader who financially exploits the
members. By using this description, any group which tithes could ... Show more content on

Social Changes In The Industrial Revolution
Society had many social and economic changes throughout the time of the Industrial Revolution in
Great Britain during, 1750 to 1850. The Industrial Revolution is the time at which farming work
changed into factory work and new methods were made. This switch really benefited Britain. There
were many of each change in society, one of the economic changes could be selling stock, and all the
new types of businesses formed . Also new transportation and the assembly line all are considered
economic changes. A social change could be all the new advanced technology and urbanization. In this
time period a big social change would involve all the new technology. Society could use these new
advanced tools to communicate with others. One invention by Samuel Morse was telegraphs. These
telegraphs improved communication by making it easier to send people messages, they were even in a
secret code. Morse code was eventually named after Samuel Morse. Another change that happened in
the beginning of the change from agriculture to industry is urbanization. This is when the people move
from the rural areas to urban areas. The rural areas are on the countryside like farms, while urban areas
are cities with factories. People left the rural places because there was no longer jobs for them since
the agricultural revolution caused less farmers being needed, also the factories are taking over. The
factories were located in the cities; many people moved here because the factory owners would need

The Top Airline Industry
Executive summary
Being one of the top airline industry for almost half a decade, Kingfisher airline went into bankruptcy
recently. Unstable top management coupled with some bad decisions hampered the growth of
kingfisher Airlines. Constant change in the management, sudden shift from economy segment to
luxury segment, a decision to buy Air Deccan even though Kingfisher was not making enough profits,
lack of strategic decision from top management to tackle the soaring fuel prices tied with some other
unhealthy decisions made them to face the contraction portion of business cycle. Kingfisher Airlines
did not recover well from that stage and at the certain time even government denied to bailout
kingfisher from bankruptcy, management staff went on indefinite strike because of the unpaid salaries,
as time passed by customers started to lose trust and there were no hopes for kingfisher other than
shutting down. This case study focuses on some of the major reasons for the failure along with our
analytical view depicted with some of the foremost principles of quality management. Being business

Meanwhile, the music industry generally refused to see any merit in instituting its own digital
distribution. It took a technology company, Apple Inc., to take advantage of this pent up demand by
launching an online Web site (the iTunes Store) in 2003 to sell songs, and later videos, for play on the
company s iPod portable digital media player, using the company s iTunes music program. By 2006
Apple had sold more than 100 million iPods, and more than 2 billion songs had been downloaded
from the iTunes Store, with all of the songs paid for and the royalties returned to record companies
and artists. Following Apple s lead, other commercial online music services were launched, such as
those byAmazon.com and Microsoft. However, the largest record companies generally refused to
participate or allowed only a small sample of their record catalogs to be sold online in digital form.
One complaint by the music industry was Apple s flat pricing structure, in which all songs were sold
for the same price. In 2008 Amazon.com negotiated a deal with most of the major record companies
whereby their songs would be priced at different levels according to market considerations.

External Influences In Lord Of The Flies
External Influences and Their Effects on Children Fragile. Naive. Innocent. These are all
characteristics of children. Adolescence is a time to develop character, and learn valuable life lessons.
However, when children do not have guidance from adults, these lessons are not learned. Lord of the
Flies, by William Golding focuses on children, and the effects isolation has on them. In the novel, a
group of schoolboys are stranded on a desert island after a plane crash. Shortly after, they elect a
leader and attempt to survive. The boys are faced with many challenges, both internal and external.
These hardships and the lack of structure caused the boys to revert to savage behavior. At first, being
on the island seems like all fun and games, however, the boys come to realize the only beast was
inside themselves. Golding s depiction of childhood being a time of tribulation and terror proves to
readers that without society to set rules in place, people will eventually regress and act savagely,
because of lack of regulation, the pressure to conform, and the selection of Jack as the new leader.
Children are fragile. Even though children start off innocent, the lack of regulation can shatter that. In
Lord of the Flies, the absence of rules and guidance dissolved the boys innocence and started their
regression to savagery. The first incident where the boys face a lack of regulation is when the
protagonist, Ralph, stands on the terrace and removes his clothes shortly after the crash.

Colfax Massacre Essay
Lalita Tademy is an interesting case of a writer, as she has a large amount of potential source material
at her disposal due to her family history, the Colfax Massacre is one of those source materials. Lalita
has a rich family history that puts her distant relatives in the middle of one of the most overlooked and
important moments in United States history. These relatives setup and attempted to protect the
courthouse in Colfax 1873, but abruptly ended with the deaths of all the men in the building in a truly

There aren t too many critical reviews about Red River and Lalita Tademy s historic accuracy, but the
reviews that do exist do acknowledge the fact that her works are based on her family history with what
she was able to recover. This means they know that not all of the book is historically accurate which
Lalita also acknowledges on her own website, Lalita Tademy weaves together history and the story of
her own family to bring us and epic work of fiction, the dramatic, intertwining story of two families
struggling to make a place for themselves in an America deeply divided after the Civil War . This ends
up being a useful tool for Lalita as she can make her book engaging to readers with intense moments,
and pages of emotion towards the people represented. The writing style of an author is arguably one of
the most important aspects when making a book as it is what keeps the reader invested and having
them want to keep flipping through the pages, if you have a badly written and overall simple story,
you will lose a majority of your readers and lower your credibility as an author. When it comes to
Lalita Tademy s Red River , she definitely nails an excellent spot for a well written story, but there are
still flaws as with every author, nobody is perfect. Throughout this book, it is apparent that Lalita is

Objectivity In Autophenonmenology And Heterophenomenology.
Objectivity in Autophenonmenology and Heterophenomenology
In the journal How to Study Human Consciousness Empirically, Daniel Dennett claims that people are
often just wrong about what they are doing and how they are doing it. Rather than having an objective
and complete understanding of our own intentions and processes, we tend to use assumptions as
knowledge, alter facts to align with our beliefs, and theorize about causes and effects. As a result,
studies of traditional phenomenology (referred to in this situation as autophenomenology) are often
clouded by personal biases and misinterpretations. The evidence of this confabulation is very similar
to a curious child it reveals itself through one repeated question: why? For example, ... Show more

This intrinsic subjectivity is important to keep in mind when studying consciousness from a
heterophenomenological perspective. The only true basis we have to determine the individual
experience of another person is what they communicate to us. If this communication is inherently
jumbled with misunderstandings and theories of one s qualia, the data on which heterophenomenology
is based is flawed and, consequently, so is heterophenomenology itself. Rather than providing a
scientific third person view of consciousness, it creates more of a collective fictional narrative that
describes the average experiences of others. In analogous terms, heterophenomenology aims to create
a textbook, but can only produce a pop culture magazine. This view may be debated by analyzing the
validity of personal experience. The fact that an individual s view of their own internal processes is
flawed could be seen as irrelevant; in the end, what truly matters to the study of consciousness is what
one is experiencing. If what one believes differs from the truth, does this incongruity not reveal key
factors of consciousness? Furthermore, these subjective claims can be cross referenced with scientific
facts to neutralize human error. This can be seen in one of the examples above, in which an individual
claims that they went to a restaurant because they were hungry because they had not eaten in

Analysis Of Las Meninas ( Maids Of Honor, By Diego Velazquez
Las Meninas (Maids of Honor) by Diego Velazquez, is a Bourque style Spanish painting from the
1700 s, which is known as Velazquez s masterpiece as an artist and his life as a court painter. Some
say Las Meninas is, This work, one of the most perfect fac similes of nature that art has ever produced,
and which Girodano called la teologia de la pintura, is among the latest productions of the artist
(Curtis 14). Velazquez s masterpiece was so highly endorsed by many, thus is why Las Meninas was
referenced as the la teologia de la pintura, also known as the theology of the painting, which is a great
honor to receive. The painting portrays the royal family s daughter and her servants posing for what
looks to be, Diego painting a portrait on a large canvas. However, a reflection of a mirror in the
background shows the royal parents, King Philip IV of Spain and his Queen Mariana watches over
Velazquez as he works, thus gives off the illusion that they are looking at this from outside the painted
area (audience view). According to Albert Fredrick Calvert, Velazquez painted the scene for us to view
as it must have appeared to the royal parents. With them we gaze at the sunlight flooded space where
the child drama is enacted (Calvert 165). While it has been highly questioned throughout the years,
whether the portrayal of the portrait is of the royal daughter and her servants or if it is a portrait of the
royal parent s reflection, thus is what makes this painting one of Velazquez s greatest pieces of work.
Diego s vision for this masterpiece was to show what his life and career has become as a celebrated
artist, therefore holding court by paying homage to himself and the royal family by adding himself
into the family portrait. A major part of the success of Las Meninas and the painting itself, is the way
Velazquez could give off light throughout the room, which makes the painting give off much more of
a natural light. It is said that the use of light The lighting of the scene by four windows on the right,
and a door in the rear, unusual difficulties over which the painter has triumph with remarkable genius
(Curtis 14). While we know the use of lighting in the portrait was important for the success, however,

Zoot Suit Stereotypes And Stereotypes
Stereotypes are a form of prejudice everyone will once experience in their lifetime. Stereotypes are
centered around an individual s race, gender, social class, religion, and age. They have been known to
be elements people use to make judgments and subjectify people to one key feature. As Gordon
Allport states, To state the matter technically, a noun abstracts from a concrete reality some one
features and assembles different concrete realities only with respect to this one feature (364).
Mr.Allport s words can be summed up to say stereotypes have been used as key fundamentals to
associate one feature or aspect of a person with a group that represents it, typically in an unfavorable
way. Over the years, the media has poorly portrayed people from Latin America countries as low
income individuals who, based on their looks, are typically out of society s views of fitting in. With
this role assigned to them, they are presumably believed to have a life filled with crime due to their
appearance. These repeatedly wrongful display of representations makes it seems the only perception
people will receive from Latin America is that it s justifiable to treat us different because of our unique
looks.

The Indians in the new world were most humber, most patient, most peaceful, and calm without strife

Christians have abandoned their focus of getting to heaven, and instead have made gold their ultimate

Prejudice of any kind implies that you are identified with the thinking mind. It means you don t see

When and why we in stereotype?
In the first article that I decided to review (Staple Noordewier, 2011) they went through a series of
correlation and experimental studies concluded that system justification motives result in stereotyping
and the motive behind it is the need for structure. They also mention the fact that people who feel part
of unjust systems are also more likely to engage in stereotyping and the impact of system justification
threat on stereotyping disappears when the desire to justify the system is satisfied through an
alternative route.
The system justification theory, described in this article, proposes that when people stereotype they
aren t just healing or preserving their selves but are instead providing justifications for the social
structure they belong to, and their believes that the world is just and legitimate. But why this need for
a justification? Simply because systems provide structure and humans need that

The Cost Of Space Exploration In The United States
Space exploration negatively affects human society, and space in many more ways than it does
positively. The 15 U.S naval expeditions from 1840 1860 approached one quarter of the annual federal
budget, by far exceeding even the Apollo commitment. The U.S should not fond space exploration
because of the cost, the lives risked, and dangerous organisms coming to earth. There are many
contributing factors on why Space Exploration should no longer be legal. First of all, the cost of the

Germs can be three times more dangerous in space than on ground. It is quite possible that there
maybe harmful microorganisms in space which could be lethal to mankind. (Martin) This quote is
explaining that if dangerous organisms are visible on earth, it can be very contagious, and threatening.
Also on space.com, it states that astronauts have tested how dangerous organisms can be when the
author says, NASA s STS 115 space shuttle mission, launched in September 2006, carried Nickerson

chance that dangerous organisms can be harmful, and infectious to humans. Space exploration should
not be fond of for many reasons. Despite the fact that you can explore, or gain technology, it s more
important to stay healthy, and minimize troubles in the world. The cost of exploration not only hurts
the world financially, but also emotionally and physically. The lives risked, and dangerous organisms

Reflection Of The Curriculum Portfolio
How well does your portfolio reflect the course goals and requirements (as defined in the syllabus)?
My portfolio is able to meet the course goals because it clearly describes my personal goals in both
positions. They are both tailored to the position that I am applying for, in that they take words from the
application in my short answer and cover letter specifically. I worked to make my online presence
more professional with a fairly distinct change in my profile, that prior focused on my current job, that
now looks forward to the positions that I hope to achieve. With my research of the audiences, I found
two positions that I think will provide me with skills and experiences that will help me reach my
future goals as well. The requirements according to the syllabus as to having a copyedited final
version is met in this draft also, and the audience is kept in mind in all citations. This material has
been submitted on time, and includes all required portions therefore meeting the remaining
requirement for this paper.
What choices did you make as you crafted your message to a variety of audiences? What decisions did
you make about your writing in response to feedback from peers, your instructor, and your Real
Reader? Choose 1 2 significant revisions to discuss in detail.

Cultural Values Of Bangladesh
Introduction
This report will discuss the cultural values of Bangladesh. The main purpose is putting the Geert
Hofstede s dimensions of culture into practice. The researcher chose Bangladesh due to the following
reason. Recently, I have worked with the Red Cross refugee program. We have a volunteer who used
to be a refugee from Bangladesh. After a difficult time setting up her life, Habiba, now, enjoys her life
in NZ and would like to help other refugees. Her story inspired me to do the study about Bangladesh
culture.
Discussion and Analysis
The five cultural dimensions of Bangladesh will be discussed in this report. Each dimension includes
three questions. The researcher recorded the answers of the volunteer and analysed them in order to
evaluate the cultural values of Bangladesh. These results are compared with Hofstede s theory to have
a true and fair view about this culture.
1. Individualism vs Collectivism
This dimension determines the culture in the term of I or we . Individualism prefers to the society in
which individuals only take care of themselves and their immediate family. In contrast, collectivism
prefers to the the society in which people integrate and share good relationships in groups, and expect
the unquestioning loyalty. (Hofstede, 1991). The three questions related to this dimension are:
Question 1: In your culture, do people have many generations (grandparents, parents and children)
living under one roof?
Answer: Yes, we have many families with

Kansas University Admission Essay Sample
Research is the driving force behind all scientific innovations. Gathering talented and passionate
people to increase the understanding of the world to ultimately apply a field of science changes the
world. I am currently in my third year of double majoring in chemistry and biology at Concordia
University Nebraska. I have thoroughly enjoyed my studies thus far from learning why drugs have a
specific impact on the body to predicting electron movement between molecules and I look forward to
learning more. But at such a small school, one educational experience that is missing is the in depth,
focused research projects like those available at KU.
A research internship at Kansas University will give me the opportunity to study specific ways
chemistry affects the human body. Whether studying simulations to increase the knowledge of
biological processes or discovering the function of proteins of cancer cells, the results will promote
manipulations of these methods to benefit the human body. The study of biological molecules is the
foundation of all medicine. Biological ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

up on this dream, I realize the difficulties that lie ahead with this chosen career. Even though I am
leaning towards going to medical school to become a doctor, I have not yet committed to this career
path; research is not out of the question. Immersing myself in a laboratory environment studying

Essay about Analysis of Theodore Dalrymple´s What We Have...
Theodore Dalrymple is an English writer and retired prison doctor and psychiatrist. Daniel in his
writings has frequently argued that the liberal and progressive views prevalent within Western
intellectual circles minimize the responsibility of individuals for their own actions and undermine
mores which are traditional, contributing to the formation within rich countries of an underclass which
is afflicted by violence, sexually transmitted diseases, criminality, welfare dependency and drug abuse.
His writings are generally based on his experience of working with criminals and the mentally ill.
Dalrymple has been at various occasions been accused of being a pessimist and a misanthrope, but his
persistent conservative philosophy has which is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The quiet heroism of those concerts and recitals were a potent symbol of the human achievement
emanated from the fact that Myra was a Jewish and played music from the same land as the enemy s
leader who represented barbarism. No one questioned those concerts and its relevance when the world
was ablaze but they understood the defiant gesture of humanity and culture in the face of
unprecedented brutality, and provide a subtle noble message. The story of Dalrymple s horrified
discovery, in Liberia s Centennial Hall where he describes about a never seen before rejection of
human refinement, wherein the piano not only represented the Liberia s culture but also an idea of
civilization, in itself an obvious coarseness of the gesture of contempt. The reaction of two young
British journalists, to whom there was nothing significant in the vandalizing of the piano only an
inanimate object. There was no compassion for the scores of thousands of people who had been killed
and many more had been displaced from their homes in the civil wars .He was appalled to see that the
two could see no connection between the impulse to destroy the piano and the impulse to kill and no
connection between respect for human life and for the finer productions of human labor, no
connection between the book burnings in Nazi Germany and all the subsequent barbarities of that
regime. This pair of seemingly trivial incidents reveals with an odd poignancy, or

Sibling A
Listening is an essential part of dialogue. If properly exercise, it allows us to absorb information
within messages and exchange thoroughly processed feedback. This exchange offers an effective
communication between parties. The lack of effective listening results in miscommunication,
unessential dialogue and a waste of resources. Here we will discuss the relationship between siblings.
The siblings in this case have a long distance relationship. Sibling A is married with no children and
sibling B has two children, but is separated from her husband. Two years ago sibling B reached out to
sibling A about a pending separation from her husband. The major concerns were expressed via phone
and text. The result of these dialogues expressed a concern ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

that they are fully engaged. In addition, the listener should refrain from interrupting the speaker until
they have completed their message. The listener should keep in mind the rule of replying to statements
before changing the subject (Verderber, K. S., Verderber, R. F. 2013, pg. 213 214). In addition, Dr.
Passmore recommends for Empathetic Listening , that the listener reflect the emotion or perceived
emotion to the speaker so that they genuinely feel that the listener is listening (2014). Furthermore Dr.
Mc Naughton, adds it is important to let the listener know what resources or help the listener can
provide. Sibling A waits until sibling B is done providing all relevant information. Sibling B then
lowers her voice to demonstrate sensitivity to sibling B s situation. Sibling A let sibling B know that
her feelings are impotant and they are with cause due to the history with her husband. However,
gathering the facts sibling A tells sibling B, her husband has provided for the family since the
separation and she is aware that he is applying for citizenship. Therefore, sibling A recommends
sibling B speak with her husband to clarify what information will specifically be needed for the
documents and sibling A can research how the documents contents can be controlled. Understanding

An example of a comparison would be Ghana amp; the UK.
Ghana finds it very difficult to implement its fiscal policy as it does not have an appropriate
infrastructure for income tax analysis and collection. Most of the population work in an unofficial
industry which means they are paid in cash, this in turn means the government cannot keep accurate
records of the citizens and therefore cannot extract the right amount of income tax from the people
when implementing fiscal policy. This means the policy will be less effective. 6.
[Ghana Revenue Authority. (2011).]
On the other hand, the well built infrastructure in the UK allows for the government to accurately
identify and monitor the income of citizens allowing the government to collect the right amount of
taxes when altering fiscal policy. Nation states must also aim to provide public goods which cannot be
provided or allocated fairly through the market mechanism. These include physical and human
infrastructure such as roads, airports, harbours and education, laws and regulations. Those are the
performance goals of the state. Other objectives include locally rooted technology, to maintain
indigenous headquarters and to attract and retain business from TNCs. They will also aim to gain a
fair level of taxes from TNCs whilst still keeping them in the country and developing a highly skilled,
higly earninging and flexible labour force.

The Importance Of Western Imperialism In East Asia
Eastern Superiority The most populated region in the world, number one in global manufacturing,
East Asia is very prosperous. The prosperity comes from a long line of success in India and in China.
Governments of both areas has been defending itself from western invaders. Some argue that east asia
did not resist western imperialism;however others say East Asia was very effective at resisting western
imperialism because the geography made the area hard to conquer. Furthermore for span of 3,000
years Easter Asia has prevented the western onslaught due to their advanced government. East Asia
was mainly ruled through dynasties which had successfully driven away conquering armies, which
caused proved successful in preventing western imperialism. From beginning of the chinese dynasties
(Shang Qing) and the empires of India the governments of East Asia stressed the upkeep and strength
of their armies. The Shang Dynasty was the first of many dynasties, they controlled Eastern Asia from
1766 to around 1122 BCE (Marsh). The shang ruled over a small piece of land and prevent invasions
from the north. The government was a king with a close knit aristocracy, which lead to fast and
efficient orders to be carried out. During the time of the shang Dynasty Mesopotamia and Egypt were
just developing, so there were no real threats and empires were starting to form. The biggest issue that
the Shang had were some small barbaric tribes and their successors the Zhou dynasty. The Zhou

Miss Maudie For The first time in all these years that I have lived here I finally saw snow in

there wasn t a lot of snow it looked like they built a small figure out of snow with snow covering it.
Seems as though they made it look like Mr. Avery, who is an unpleasant man who lives down the
street. It seems as though Atticus doesn t like that they made it look like Mr. Avery so he told them to
disguise it. So, jem takes my sunhat and puts it on it s head and sticks her hedge clippers in it hands,

The report below provides an insight into the supermarket company Tesco, with emphasis on the

Tesco are the chosen company for this report as they are the market leader within the supermarket
industry, Tesco controls over 30 percent of the UK grocery market, a figure which is almost double the
combined share of nearest rivals Asda and Sainsbury s. This provides the report with an excellent
basis for analysis of competitive advantage. The statistical evidence for the company s performance

In particular, Miller (1992) questions the notion of being caught in the middle .
One of the primary activities of the value chain model and one of Tesco s core competencies is
marketing and sales. Evidence of this is through Tesco s use of information technology as a key
resource, with over 40 million customer s worldwide using loyalty card s such as Clubcard (TescoPlc,
2013). Research by Clemons and Row (1991) suggests that although it is unlikely that any single
investment in information technology will lead to competitive advantage, what does make a difference
is the competency to innovate with IT over a period of time. This shows how Tesco s innovation of the
Clubcard has enabled them to differentiate from their competitors, as they have shown the notion of
innovation that is not easily replicated. Specifically, Tesco use of information technology has lead to a
competitive advantage as it is used to leverage differences in strategic resources.
Evidence of this is supported by Rowley (2005), who describes how Tesco s ability to understand their
customers effectively, as a source of both differentiation and cost advantages, provides them with a
competitive advantage. Rowley states that unlike other companies, Tesco uses data about its customers
to provide services for them. This innovative capability allows making correct decisions about which
products to supply and the best way to introduce this

Effect of Growing Internet Newspapers on Circulation of Print Newspapers in the U.S.
A paper submitted to 54 Conference of International Communication Conference for consideration for
presentation th October 2003
ABSTRACT An Internet survey of publishers and online editors found that growth of the Internet
newspaper yielded a slightly negative effect on print newspapers circulation. The findings suggest that
the smaller the newspaper, the larger effect the Internet newspapers had on the print newspapers.
Small and medium sized print newspapers showed obvious decreasing circulation since 1990 while
the declining trend was not evident for large newspapers. The readership of the Internet newspaper
had been considerably growing since ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

newspaper reading was limited to the one serving people s home city or town plus a national daily
like The Wall Street Journal or USA Today. Now, however, local papers and any one of numerous
newspapers from across the country are only a few clicks away. 14 With all the advantages, the virtual
newspapers will become a competitive displacement for printed newspapers. 15 Studies found some
support for relative constancy with growth of the Internet newspapers. A survey by Editor Publisher
found that more than one third of the users of Web sites run by newspapers said they reduced their
reading of print newspapers since going online. A survey conducted in Texas reported that among
PointCast Users who are predominately business people, nearly half of them spend less time reading
newspapers. 16
Effect of the Internet Newspaper on Print newspapers Researchers proposed that print newspapers and
their online counterparts were characterized by head on competition, and readers shifted from print to
online.17 A survey released in September 2000 pointed out that when users surfed online for local

Nuclear Technology And Its Impact On The Atomic Age
On August 6th and 9th, 1945 the first atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki Japan.
With the use of these new weapons a door was opened that could never be closed, a new and uncertain
era was now upon the world, and the use of atomic power could mean the betterment or destruction of
a nation at a moment s notice. Whether you like it or not, you live in the atomic age and it can have
many implications that you may or may not know about. The Manhattan Project is well known to have
developed the first two atomic bombs, fat man, and little boy, but nuclear technology was being
researched many years before this. Uranium was first found in 1789 by Martin Klaproth, and was
discovered to have ionizing radiation in 1895 by Wilhelm Rontgen (Outline History of Nuclear
Energy). More and more information on uranium and other materials were being discovered, such as:
radioactive materials emitting alpha particles in 1896 by Henri Becquerel, in 1902 the discovery of
radiation being a spontaneous event by Ernest Rutherford, Niels Bohr and his increased understanding
of the atom, in 1932 when James Chadwick discovered the neutron, etc. Other nations also spent
resources on developing nuclear technology such as in Russia with their Radium Institute of
Leningrad FTI, but was hampered with Stalin s purges that eliminated prominent scientists working
there; British scientists developed the concept of the atomic bomb with the MAUD committee in 1940
and continued research on the

Advantages Of Aquaculture
Aquaculture in the Pacific
Abstract:
Aquaculture is currently of little significance when compared to fishing in the Pacific. There is an
exception, black pearl farming in eastern Polynesia. Aquaculture needs considerable development in
most places before it can be deemed economical and sustainable. Some farming that takes place are
shrimp, tilapia and seaweed (future commercial export prospect). But, all these are still in the
experimental stage. The only way aquaculture can expand is when the Pacific will be provided with
better production methods for current species, new techniques and more new species. These new
methods that can help expansion should be simple yet flexible for easy adapted to the environment
and market constraints. They should have low operating costs and approach integrated fisheries bodies
with favorably low investment cost. It also needs associations with commercial scale operations to
demonstrate economic viability.
Pacific Islands have many factors that favor aquaculture and stock enhancement development in the
coastal areas. These factors are; abundant diversity of coral reef species (high demand), the location is

  • 2. The Debate Of Public Livestock Grazing Western United States was unsettled by Americans in early the years. After the Civil War, known as the era of homesteading, was designed by the government to promote the settlement of the western states. Because there was a lack of understanding of the arid ecosystems and the increase of westward settlement, western public rangelands were overgrazed. This in turn caused unintended damage to soil, plants, streams, and springs. In 1934 the Taylor Grazing Act was passed by Congress to create grazing districts that were portioned and regulated. In the 1960s and the 1970s public appreciation for public lands increased. This advertently caused the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to modify land grazing permits so that endangered species, sensitive plants, and cultural or historical objects can be preserved. (A Brief History of Public Lands Grazing, Bureau of Land Management) Still today the debate of public livestock grazing continues. There is much tension between farmers, wildlife and environmental activists, the government, and the Bureau of Land Management. Farmers say public livestock grazing production is economically beneficial. Wildlife and environmental activist argue that this grazing harms the wildlife and their ecosystems. The government sees other ways to use the land that would increase economic benefits. BLM is trying their best to make sure everyone is happy. I should be allowed to research the controversy that surrounds livestock grazing on public lands because: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Incineration Essay cineration is the process of the destruction of waste by converting the organic material to carbon dioxide and water vapour by fire leaving only the ash and non combustibles to dispose in the landfill (http://www.saincinerator.com). Ash is the incombustible inorganic residue after the waste has been destructed by means of incineration. • 4. Marilyn Grief Attachment, expectedness, and grief accumulation, are important variables that impact the way an individual experiences grief, further influencing the way they heal (Golden, 2000). Marilyn is experiencing circumstances that influence how she is grieving. Her son, who was a major part of her life, died unexpectedly in a car accident. Additionally, she is experiencing accumulated grief from a lack of closure after her father passed away. Golden (2000) reports that when an individual loses someone they are very attached to they will experience a greater degree of grief. Furthermore, if the loss was unexpected, such as a car accident, the grief will be significantly different than if it was expected. Another important factor in the grieving process focuses on the presence of accumulated grief. If grief isn t acknowledged and/or dealt with, it can have an impact on everyday life and can affect the way an individual copes with other grief occurrences (Golden, 2000). Marilyn still has unresolved issues revolving around her parents divorce and subsequent death of her father. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, feelings of guilt and powerlessness can permeate the healing process and complicate grief when a child dies (Matzo Sherman, 2015). Huckleberry Finn Satire Essay I heard an owl, away off, who whooing about somebody that was dead, and a whippo will and a dog crying about somebody that was going to die; and the wind was trying to whisper something to me, and I couldn t make out what it was (Twain 13). Twain often ridicules American society in the early 1800 s. He pokes fun at various subjects throughout the novel, such as human brutality, women s roles in society, and slavery within christianity. Satire plays a major role in Mark Twain s classic novel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. As the novel begins, Huck is living with a woman, Miss Watson,a religious christian figure. • 6. Sociology Essay On Cult There is no universally agreed definition of the word cult , it is only rarely used as a self description and does not refer to any particular belief system. Since the 1920s, the word cult has most commonly been used to designate a minority religious group whose beliefs and practices an outside observer views as dangerous or strange. There are different varieties of cults, the Moonies, the Children of God, Eckankar, the Hare Krishna, and Scientology are a few. Basically, there are two main types of cults, those with Christian based beliefs, and those with Eastern Religion based beliefs. Some organizations have issued checklists with characteristics of destructive cults . From a sociological perspective, many of these lists contain value judgements which are arguably a matter of opinion rather than fact, e.g. a cult is a group with a manipulative leader who financially exploits the members. By 2006 Apple had sold more than 100 million iPods, and more than 2 billion songs had been downloaded from the iTunes Store, with all of the songs paid for and the royalties returned to record companies and artists. Following Apple s lead, other commercial online music services were launched, such as those byAmazon.com and Microsoft. However, the largest record companies generally refused to participate or allowed only a small sample of their record catalogs to be sold online in digital form. One complaint by the music industry was Apple s flat pricing structure, in which all songs were sold for the same price. • 11. External Influences In Lord Of The Flies External Influences and Their Effects on Children Fragile. Naive. Innocent. These are all characteristics of children. Adolescence is a time to develop character, and learn valuable life lessons. However, when children do not have guidance from adults, these lessons are not learned. Lord of the Flies, by William Golding focuses on children, and the effects isolation has on them. In the novel, a group of schoolboys are stranded on a desert island after a plane crash. Shortly after, they elect a leader and attempt to survive. The boys are faced with many challenges, both internal and external. These hardships and the lack of structure caused the boys to revert to savage behavior. At first, being on the island seems like all fun and games, however, the boys come to realize the only beast was inside themselves. Golding s depiction of childhood being a time of tribulation and terror proves to readers that without society to set rules in place, people will eventually regress and act savagely, because of lack of regulation, the pressure to conform, and the selection of Jack as the new leader. Children are fragile. Even though children start off innocent, the lack of regulation can shatter that. In Lord of the Flies, the absence of rules and guidance dissolved the boys innocence and started their regression to savagery. The first incident where the boys face a lack of regulation is when the protagonist, Ralph, stands on the terrace and removes his clothes shortly after the crash. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Colfax Massacre Essay Lalita Tademy is an interesting case of a writer, as she has a large amount of potential source material at her disposal due to her family history, the Colfax Massacre is one of those source materials. Lalita has a rich family history that puts her distant relatives in the middle of one of the most overlooked and important moments in United States history. These relatives setup and attempted to protect the courthouse in Colfax 1873, but abruptly ended with the deaths of all the men in the building in a truly one sided battle. This ends up being a useful tool for Lalita as she can make her book engaging to readers with intense moments, and pages of emotion towards the people represented. The writing style of an author is arguably one of the most important aspects when making a book as it is what keeps the reader invested and having them want to keep flipping through the pages, if you have a badly written and overall simple story, you will lose a majority of your readers and lower your credibility as an author. Objectivity in Autophenonmenology and Heterophenomenology In the journal How to Study Human Consciousness Empirically, Daniel Dennett claims that people are often just wrong about what they are doing and how they are doing it. Rather than having an objective and complete understanding of our own intentions and processes, we tend to use assumptions as knowledge, alter facts to align with our beliefs, and theorize about causes and effects. As a result, studies of traditional phenomenology (referred to in this situation as autophenomenology) are often clouded by personal biases and misinterpretations. If this communication is inherently jumbled with misunderstandings and theories of one s qualia, the data on which heterophenomenology is based is flawed and, consequently, so is heterophenomenology itself. Rather than providing a scientific third person view of consciousness, it creates more of a collective fictional narrative that describes the average experiences of others. In analogous terms, heterophenomenology aims to create a textbook, but can only produce a pop culture magazine. This view may be debated by analyzing the validity of personal experience. The fact that an individual s view of their own internal processes is flawed could be seen as irrelevant; in the end, what truly matters to the study of consciousness is what one is experiencing. If what one believes differs from the truth, does this incongruity not reveal key factors of consciousness? Furthermore, these subjective claims can be cross referenced with scientific facts to neutralize human error. This can be seen in one of the examples above, in which an individual claims that they went to a restaurant because they were hungry because they had not eaten in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Analysis Of Las Meninas ( Maids Of Honor, By Diego Velazquez Las Meninas (Maids of Honor) by Diego Velazquez, is a Bourque style Spanish painting from the 1700 s, which is known as Velazquez s masterpiece as an artist and his life as a court painter. Some say Las Meninas is, This work, one of the most perfect fac similes of nature that art has ever produced, and which Girodano called la teologia de la pintura, is among the latest productions of the artist (Curtis 14). Velazquez s masterpiece was so highly endorsed by many, thus is why Las Meninas was referenced as the la teologia de la pintura, also known as the theology of the painting, which is a great honor to receive. The painting portrays the royal family s daughter and her servants posing for what looks to be, Diego painting a portrait on a large canvas. However, a reflection of a mirror in the background shows the royal parents, King Philip IV of Spain and his Queen Mariana watches over Velazquez as he works, thus gives off the illusion that they are looking at this from outside the painted area (audience view). According to Albert Fredrick Calvert, Velazquez painted the scene for us to view as it must have appeared to the royal parents. With them we gaze at the sunlight flooded space where the child drama is enacted (Calvert 165). While it has been highly questioned throughout the years, whether the portrayal of the portrait is of the royal daughter and her servants or if it is a portrait of the royal parent s reflection, thus is what makes this painting one of Velazquez s greatest pieces of work. Diego s vision for this masterpiece was to show what his life and career has become as a celebrated artist, therefore holding court by paying homage to himself and the royal family by adding himself into the family portrait. A major part of the success of Las Meninas and the painting itself, is the way Velazquez could give off light throughout the room, which makes the painting give off much more of a natural light. It is said that the use of light The lighting of the scene by four windows on the right, and a door in the rear, unusual difficulties over which the painter has triumph with remarkable genius (Curtis 14). Stereotypes are centered around an individual s race, gender, social class, religion, and age. They have been known to be elements people use to make judgments and subjectify people to one key feature. As Gordon Allport states, To state the matter technically, a noun abstracts from a concrete reality some one features and assembles different concrete realities only with respect to this one feature (364). Mr.Allport s words can be summed up to say stereotypes have been used as key fundamentals to associate one feature or aspect of a person with a group that represents it, typically in an unfavorable way. Over the years, the media has poorly portrayed people from Latin America countries as low income individuals who, based on their looks, are typically out of society s views of fitting in. With this role assigned to them, they are presumably believed to have a life filled with crime due to their appearance. These repeatedly wrongful display of representations makes it seems the only perception people will receive from Latin America is that it s justifiable to treat us different because of our unique looks. The researcher chose Bangladesh due to the following reason. Recently, I have worked with the Red Cross refugee program. We have a volunteer who used to be a refugee from Bangladesh. After a difficult time setting up her life, Habiba, now, enjoys her life in NZ and would like to help other refugees. Her story inspired me to do the study about Bangladesh culture.
