The Trial No Search Warrant
Facts of the Case:
Mapp was arrested for possessing obscene pictures, after police illegally obtained them. At the time
Ohio had a statute that made the possession of obscene literature criminal. At Mapp s trial no
search warrant was admitted into evidence, however she was still convicted. The Court citing Wolf
vs Colorado found that evidence obtained from an unlawful search and seizure is admissible in
criminal prosecution. On appeal, the Supreme Court of the United States reversed the judgment and
remanded the case to the Court. unlawful searches and seizure right to privacy

However, the concurring opinion gave by Justice Hugo Black stated that the fourth amendment ban
against unreasonable searches and seizures along with the fifth amendment s ban against forced self
incrimination defends the exclusionary rule.
Another concurring opinion was made by Justice William Douglas believed that the officers had
violated Mapp s right to privacy .
Dissenting Opinion:
Justice Harlan, Justices Frankfurter and Whittaker dissented. Justice Harlan wrote the dissenting
opinion. In his dissent, Justice Harlan argued that the majority confronted the wrong issue in its
decision. Because Mapp was convicted under an Ohio statute criminalizing the possession of
obscene material, Justice Harlan believed that the new and pivotal issue was whether this statute is
consistent with the rights of free thought and expression assured against state action by the
Fourteenth Amendment.(Mapp vs Ohio) He concluded that the majority had ignored the principles
of judicial restraint and stare decisis, and had reached out to consider the exclusionary rule issue.
According to Justice Harlan, this was a First Amendment case and not an appropriate case for
extending the Fourth Amendment s exclusionary rule to the states. He also concluded that it was
wrong to impose the exclusionary rule, designed for the federal criminal process, on the states
which, in his view, bore quite

Follow-Through Radiography
A study was done by five attending and four resident radiologists, to compare radiological quality
and radiation dose using digital radiography (DR) and conventional screen film (SF) radiography in
an abdominal radiography. The study used eleven patients between the ages 18 27 to undergo a
Small Bowel Follow Through (SBFT) examination. The examination included two radiography
images. For each examination, one of the radiographs was done using DR equipment and the
other was done using SF radiography. In order to create similar viewing conditions the DRs were
printed on film. The SF and DR images were acquired under certain scanning conditions, which
included a Bucky grid used for both, identical focus size and source to image distance (SID)... Show

The study period was four months long, the first two months conventional radiography was
being used, and in the last two months CR was being used. The choice to take a retake was
made by the radiographer; every number and reason for the retake was recorded. Exposure,
technique, patient movement, or other factors determined the reason for a retake. Each film was

Rylands V Fletcher
Question 6, April 2006: Solution to fe1 question
Bell Computers could attach liability to either Chemical Supply or Industrial Estates under the tort
of Rylands v Fletcher.
Chemical Supply s Liability
Rylands v Fletcher established that a person who for his own purposes brings on his lands and
collects and keeps there anything likely to do mischief if it escapes, must keep it in at his peril, and
if he does not do so , is prima facie answerable for all the damage which is the natural consequence
of its escape. The rule therefore imposes strict liability on the defendant for all damage which
occurs as a natural consequence of the escape, and there is no requirement for intent or neglect. The
rule only applies to defendants who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Industrial Estate s Liability
The rule in Rylands applies to owners of premises as well as occupiers, but Bell would have
difficulty overcoming the proofs outlined in respect of Industrial, namely accumulation for
Industrial s benefit etc. and the absence of any control by Industrial over the harmful substances.
Liability would be more successfully attached to Industrial in negligence for its failure to keep
the road in a good state of repair. Firstly, Bell will need to establish that it owed a duty of care to
it. As Lord Atkin stated in O Donoghue v Stevensonyou must take reasonable care to avoid acts or
omission which you can reasonably foresee would be liable to injure your neighbour. While
neighbour in this sense does not strictly mean persons who occupy the property beside you, it
was established in Glencar Explorations v Mayo Co.Co. that if a plaintiff and defendant s
relationship is sufficiently proximate, and the harm caused was foreseeable, then in the absence
of policy limitations, a duty of care would arise. Bell should be able to establish a duty of care in
that by failing to maintain the road in a good condition, it was reasonably foreseeable that such
failure could cause injury to Bell s property, as Industrial knew that tanks full of harmful
substances travelled on the road on a daily basis, and that if such chemicals were to escape due to
an accident caused by the defective road, they would

Movie Review: The Great Gatsby and Romeo and Juliet
Question 1: The choice of set, props and clothing in both movies.
Juliet wants to extend her present, as her future prospects with Romeo are bleak and Gatsby wants
to create a beautiful future by restoring the past. Baz Luhrmann is known for his distinctive style
especially in films such as Romeo and Juliet, Moulin Rouge and Strictly Ballroom. Also known as
The Red Curtain Trilogy , there are many similarities between all three of these films with The
Great Gatsby. Baz Luhrmann is able to keep his pompous signature style that has made him the

It can be seen on peoples t shirts in the movie, shaved onto people s heads, tattooed onto people
like Sir Francis and there are saintly figures around the city. Even in the title of the play Romeo +
Juliet , this symbolises religion, Christianity. That religion is an important part in the characters
lives and also plays a huge aspect in the movie. Props used are also guns in Romeo and Juliet. It
seems as if every has a gun and it is just the norm. In Romeo and Juliet, Juliet wears white dresses
often which symbolise her purity and innocence. In the Great Gatsby Daisy and Jordan also wear
white clothes but it symbolises the laziness and the stereotypes of the 1920 s that women don t
need to do anything and they can afford to wear white clothes because all they do is lounge
around. In both the movies the parties that are thrown are huge and extravagant which show status
and class. I both movies the parties act as a catalyst to the main characters relationships. In Romeo

Making A Murderer Essay Questions
Mrs.Malone
Final Exam In the non fictional Tv series Making a Murderer, it shows how the criminal justice
system can have people wrongfully convicted, tampering with evidence, and unjustified
persecution. These aren t just the only problems with the system, there are many more wrongful
things that happen but these are the main ones in this case. We can do many things to stop all of the
problems with the American Criminal Justice System, we can crack down on who visits the crime
scene, use more evidence when convicting somebody, And using the justice system and have
hard evidence to sentence someone for a crime. Brendan Dassey was Steven Avery s nephew and
he was 16 when he got convicted of the crime so he was a miner at the time but they didn t have
any permission to question him so he shouldn t get in trouble even though they made a mistake.
Yes he admitted to stabbing and raping her but we still have to remember had a very bad learning

Steven Avery assumed that evidence has been tampered with and he directly said it in court but
the judge of this case dismissed his statement and went on. This raised many questions because no
one said anything or admitted to tampering with the evidence but it is proven that someone has
tampered with the evidence in order to make Steven Avery guilty in her murder. This is not the
only case where tampering with evidence has happened so it is possible for the Criminal Justice
System to do this especially when the case is as serious as this

The Themes Of Women In Carrie By Stephen King
Boys will be boys, and girls will be brutal. At least, that s the impression one gets from reading
Stephen King s novel, Carrie. Endless bullying from all students on Carrie White is common at
Ewen High, where the novel takes place, however, the bullying is taken more seriously by the
girls. Carrie lives an unfortunate life, alone with her strictly religious mother. These factors lead to
the wrath of CarrieWhite, the downfall of herself, and well, just about everyone else. King uses
the theme of women and femininity to demonstrate that females often conform to hateful
stereotypes, are completely different from men, and to show how religion can play a role in this.
The first lesson King gives the reader is how stupid and brutal women can be when sticking
together in large groups. In the opening scene, all of the girls in gym class were taking showers
when Carrie Whitenoticed she was bleeding down her legs. While the other girls understood what
was happening, Carriedid not; she thought she was dying. Thinking that Carrie had had her
period before, all of the girls, including the good ones, begin to chant plug it up and throw
feminine products at Carrie. It is no wonder that King often uses metaphors about farm animals to
describe girls in the novel, as they stick together in herds. As recalled by the gym teacher, I m
living in a glass house, see. I understand how those girls felt. The whole thing just made me want
to take [Carrie] and shake her. Maybe there s some

This is a review on the research paper Improvement of Manufacturing Operations through a Lean
Management Approach: A Case Study in the Pharmaceutical Industry by Maria Elena Nenni, Luca
Giustiniano and Luca Pirolo submitted to University of Naples Federico and University LUISS
Guido Carli
Abstract:
At the current situation, Lean Manufacturing has turned into an overall marvel. It is entirely
effective in drawing the consideration of organizations of all sizes. An extensive number of
organizations are taking after Lean advancements and encountering unlimited upgrades in quality,
production, customer service etc. According to lean principles, any use of resources that does not
deliver consumer value is a target for change or elimination. It also refers to the elimination of non
value adding/wastes. This Lean approach has mainly been applied in manufacturing, notably in
Toyota, and the Toyota Production System, from where Lean originates in the early 1960 s but not
to a complete extent. However, lean has also been widely applied in non manufacturing areas.
Lean Management , or rather Lean production is considered to be a smart approach on a system of
measures and methodologies. Considering the aspects on a whole, the potential to bring the concept
of Lean in various fields of activity like product development, supply chain,

Identity In Maxine Hong Kingston s The Warrior Woman
Identity is a complex structure, however while complex and seemingly structured, it can also be
very fluid. Identity is a prominent factor in not only how we represent ourselves to others, but also
how we view ourselves. Not solidifying how you see yourself can be a long, tormenting process
filled with doubt, conflict, and misunderstanding, however once you know yourself, a calming,
peaceful, and fulfilling feeling comes over you like a rainbow after a thunderstorm. In Maxine
Hong Kingstons memoir, The Warrior Woman, she endures the process of defining herself over a
series of stories, not all of which are hers, and ultimately, comes to a conclusion about what her
identityreally is. Through becoming a background character, participating in anti cultural behaviors,
and adding her own crucial embellishments throughout her mother s stories, Kingston navigates her
own selfness and pieces together a fluid, yet satisfying identity as a storyteller, based on the
identities of others. Kingston shifts the traditional autobiographical center of I off balance and
often makes the narrator almost a background character. In her memoir, she tells the audience about
herself via embellishments on stories from her mother about other people, in conjunction with some
stories of Kingston s own life. This method of sharing her personal journey with the audience tells a
lot about her internal struggle between following traditional Chinese ideologies, or conforming to

A Conservationist Manifesto Analysis
A Conservationist Manifesto In A Conservationist Manifesto, Scott Russell Sanders argues that
consumerism is a destructive force in the nation. He offers a solution: As an antidote to this culture
of consumption, extravagance, and waste that dominates America today, we need to imagine a
culture of conservation. Sanders encourages readers to think of a new way to exist in the natural
world. Sanders enlightened my perspective on the mass amount of consumption that we suffer in
America. As the population of the U.S. continues to proliferate day by day, resources we possess
both materialistically and naturally must be preserved. According to Sanders, There are more
people living in poverty than the amount of people alive in the 1900 s. I never perceived
conservation to be a critical subject; however, after noticing the amount of devastation within the
wilderness and our waters caused by the lack of conservation, I realized we must reassess the
exploitation of natural resources.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Between 2000 and 2013, 2.3 Million square kilometers (890,000 square miles) of forest around
the world were cut down. We are slowly precipitating an Earth that will fail in providing
resources. To take in consideration that only 6.2 million square kilometers of forest remains,
from the original 16 million, shows how consumers encourage deforestation and in the matter of
13 years, were able to destroy 12.5% of nature. One of the ways Sanders exposes these
corporations by stating, The scale of devastation caused by human activity is unprecedented, and it
is accelerating, spurred on by a global system of nation states battling for advantage, and by an
economic system addicted to growth and waste. So the work of conservation becomes ever more
urgent (Sanders 212). As everyday consumers, we must desperately reevaluate and change our

The Immortal Life Of Henrietta Lacks
A mother s love is the kind of love that gives meaning to life, when everything seems to have
your back against the wall, somehow the reassurance of a mother s presence and support takes
away all of the pain. A bond created from early on inside your mother s womb, is the same bond
that is cherished for a lifetime. From mother s day cards every year, to special surprises for her
birthday, a mother s love can never be replaced. This kind of love is truly indescribable. But what

Analysis Of The Book The Big Boat
The Big Boat Going to the LACMA art museum was a very good experience to see many
different types of artwork by different artists. In 1920 Robert Michel created a painting named
Ship , which it contained many visual elements such as cool and warm colors curvilinear
geometric figures. First of all, Michel shows the viewer a lot of curvilinear lines meaning a
consisting of, bounded by, or characterized by a curved line, or a along a curved line of a set of
coordinates determined by or determining a system of three orthogonal surfaces (definition from
the internet). Geometric meaning, a set of points or vertices lines connecting the points in a
closed chain, as well as the resulting interior points. Such shapes are called polygons and include
triangles, squares, and pentagons (definition from the internet). And irregular shapes meaning
polygon that does not have all sides equal and all angles equal. A polygon is regular only when
all angles are equal and all sides are equal, otherwise it is irregular (definition from the internet).
He also adds warm, cool and intensity colors to catch the viewer attention. The person analyzing
the painting really has to pay very close attention to Micheles art work. Michele tends to add a lot
of small detail to his art work mostly about life; such as the sea representing water, animals like
elephants, numbers, moving flags representing air, two humans in the house representing a family,
a clock representing time, rims, and boats both

Essay on Trojan War
Did the Trojan War occur?
The existence of a war in Troy is undeniable; however it is not the Trojan war of Homer s Iliad. It
is believed that Homer s account may have been based on a real event therefore having some truth
but due to the mythological nature of the source, the unreliability of oral transmission and the
exaggerated romantic theme, the account is not a valid source for historians. Written evidence such
as the Hittite records and the different theories presented by archaeologists Schliemann, Dorpfield,
Blegen and Korfmann strongly suggest the occurrence of a war in troy and have some links to the
Iliad. Despite these links, there is only enough evidence to support the existence of a war in Troy
but not explicitly Homer s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Heinrich Schliemann was one of the first archaeologists who discovered the site based on
geological descriptions in Homer s Iliad. Through the excavation of the site, Schliemann
uncovered nine major layers on the mound and concluded that level 2 was Homer s Troy.
Archaeologists who came later criticised Schliemann s amateurish excavation methods and
concluded that level two was too early to be the Homeric Troy. Despite Schliemann s destruction
and false claims of the site, his discovery of Hissarlik proved that there is some truth to Homer s
account and deserves some credit for setting the foundation for archaeologists such as Blegen,
Dorpfield and Korfmann. Schliemann s discovery of the site proved that there is no doubt Troy
existed and that the city s destruction was definite.
Wilhelm Dorpfield was one of many archaeologists who began excavations and studies at
Hissarlik. Level VI was the level that Dorpfield believes is the legendary Troy. He argued that
Level VI fitted Homer s description as being a grand city surrounded by high limestone walls.
However, there was no evidence of Greek camps outside the walls of the city that supported
Homer s account of a ten year siege, thus leading us to conclude that Level VIIa must ve been the
Homeric Troy. Layers of charcoal uncovered by Korfmann that dated to roughly 1250 BC, the
approximate end of Homer s Troy is evidence of fire

Four Different Market Structures
Four Market Structures

What are the four market structures and their characteristics? According to McConnell and Brue
(2004) describe four market structures that companies align themselves with during the course of
their corporate lives.: Pure Competition, Pure Monopoly, Monopolistic Competition and Oligopoly.
Companies may move from market structure to market structure over the course of growth and
time. This movement between structures may be the result of product changes, introduction of
competition or consumer interests. McConnell and Brue (2004) also states that, pure competition is

Many companies provide multiple services with products that are differentiated through location.
Companies like GEICO use the gecko for easy association with its brand name. The insurance
arena has easy market entry and exit and some price control. To maximize profit, insurance firms
must juggle three components of monopolistic competition; price, product, and advertising. In
specific reference to automobile liability insurance pricing systems, the risk factors that derive
price include insurer risk, regulation, geographical region, and investment returns. The rates are
comprised of fixed and variable costs. Fixed costs are relatively low because of minimal
operational expenses whereas variable costs are high because of the relatively unlimited risks. The
insurance firm is pricing for the long run equilibrium output so that price exceeds the minimum
average costs for a normal return.
An oligopoly is a market structure in which a few firms sell either a standardized or differentiated
product into which entry is difficult in which the firm has limited control over product price
because of mutual interdependence (except when there is collusion among firms) and in which
there is typically non price competition (McConnell and Brue, 2004). As the formation of trusts was
restricted in the United States, the oligopoly became the most frequent big business structure. With
four or five large firms responsible for most of the output of each

The Character Of Roger Chillingworth And Arthur Dimmesdale
The setting is in Boston, Massachusetts, It s cold and a heavy rain is falling down from the sky
almost as if god himself was crying over the sinful actions he has seen come from his so called

life meaning, has become a sinner, and his so called companion; a physician who has drained his
body of every single piece of energy for the sole purpose of torturing this minister. These characters

Hawthorn constantly uses a dash of dramatic irony when Dimmesdale and Chillingworth have a

buried heart to make manifest an unspoken crime this line is read when Dimmesdale and
Chillingworth are having a private conversation between each other and Hawthorn creates a bit of
tension in this scene by showing the reader how Chillingworth would torture Dimmesdale but still
manage to keep Dimmesdale from knowing he is actually Hester s former husband.
Moreover, Chillingworth does not just torture the minister he also makes sure he is kept in good
health so he may stay alive and prolong his twisted enjoyment. This could be found in paragraph
fourteen it reads But for my aid, his life would have burned away in torments within the first two
years after the perpetration of his crime and thine. In these lines he is boasting how the minister
would have already died without his medical knowledge, as if he were trying to explain that what
he had done hasn t been all bad and his actions should actually be celebrated. This can show the
reader how Chillingworth to some extent was denying his sins trying belittle them.
Furthermore, Chillingworth s mission to torture Dimmesdale soon becomes his way of sustaining
himself and metaphorically keep himself alive,

Into My Own By Robert Frost Essay
Into My Own , by Robert Frost, is a sonnet that explores much more than writing conventions. Frost
writes his sonnet differently than the accepted norm of the time, and his subject is unlike any other:
exploring the identity of a young adult. Frost, as usual, puts a spin on the normal conventions of
poetry. He leans toward the English sonnet, writing in iambic pentameter with fourteen lines
separated into three quatrains a set of four lines and a couplet set apart at the end. However, Frost
sets an unusual rhyme scheme for a sonnet. He rhymes each of his lines in pairs, or couplets. In
lines 1 8, the speaker deals with the idea of adolescent identity ( Into My Own by Robert Frostpara.
2). Note that the title isn t On My Own, which would suggest a need for independence, but Into

Explain Why The Ions That Are Responsible For A Strong Base
The ions that are responsible for making a solution of a base or an acid is H+ or a proton. The pH
scale measures the acidity or alkalinity of a solution. On the pH scale there are numbers that
indicate how strong or weak the acid or the base is. On the pH scale the numbers range from 0 14.
0 2 stands for a strong acidic, 3 5 for a weak acidic, 6 8 means the solution is neutral, 9 11 for a
weak base, and 12 14 for a strong base. There are three theories that are used to define a base and an
acid. The first theory is the The Arrhenius Theory this theory says an acid produces hydrogen ions,
H+ in water solution and a base produces hydroxide ions, OHв€’ in water solution. The second
theory is The Bronsted Lowry Theory . This

Harriet Tubman The American Abolitionist
Lesson Reading Assignments The lesson I was granted to teach is Harriet Tubman, the
American abolitionist, was born a slave at some time around bout the 1800s. The students were
required to read this encyclopedia entry and write a small summary, summarizing what they have
learned and they had to deliver their findings in a class demonstration. Lesson 1 what is the
entry about is a question student had to respond in their summaries. Next students had to make
sure they read it by following Mrs. Langley s directions before you read, decide what you will

what went well on this on class assignment is that students connect their previous knowledge with

Critical Analysis Of The Movie Hunger Games
In this essay, I will do a critical analysis of the movie Hunger Games, the short story The Story of
an Hour, and Taylor Swift s music video Look What You Make Me Do in terms of the use of
symbolism, and the new self. The Hunger Games follows 16 year old Katniss Everdeen, a girl
from District 12 who volunteers for the 74th HungerGames in place of her younger sister Primrose

the inability of the Capitol to enforce their power over all living creatures. These birds are signs
of resistance and rebellion. As Katniss says, they re something of a slap in the face to the

forced to live in an unfair city, yet she managed to contain her identity throughout the games. Food,

an inner conviction of one s own worth and integrity. (Man cannot live by bread alone.) The hunger

Family Guy Analysis
Imagine living a whole life as an American, accustomed to Caucasian practices, confident on the
stability of your home and career and often bragging patriotically. Then your boss decides to
have an inspection, laying off immigrant employees. Going to your mother to ask for your birth
certificate, you find out you were actually born in Mexico. You get laid off and have to work as
a servant for your wife s rich father. This was the case for Peter Griffen, the father and
protagonist in the TV series called Family Guy. While working for Carter Pewterschmidt, his
father in law, he meets another immigrant employee who helps him around the mansion and
gives him some insight on his life. Overall, the episode was a great example of one s view of the
American Dream. Its ideas were also very similar to claims made by an author regarding the
American Dream. Tim Roemer, author of America remains the world s beacon of success ,
argues that America is still prosperous and that, based on his trip overseas, foreigners still view
the U.S as a land of opportunity. Both Roemer s article and the specified episode of Family Guy
serve to demonstrate how people outside of the US still admire the country as a whole, believe
America is the goal for studying and that although other countries are facing devastating challenges,
people can still prosper in the U.S.
Initially, Tim Roemer explains foreign views of the United States, which contributes to his first
argument that the U.S is still admired

Are Kiwi Men Better in Handling Cash than Women?
Here s an interesting question. Are Kiwi men better at handling their finances than women?
A compiled research reveals that men are more likely to own a credit card with a balance
amounting to at least $10,000. The study also shows that men are less inclined to have money in
the bank and are more likely to bear personal loans. In contrast, women are more likely to own a

Effect Of Change During The Post Independence Period
Chieftaincy has continued to experience pressures of change during the post independence period.
The introduction of the central government system in Ghana interfered in the institution of
chieftaincy and reduced much of the authority and the power of chiefs (Boadi 2001, 20). However,
despite these two major changes, chieftaincy is still very important in Ghana. Moreover, those
pressures did not affect the religiosity of chieftaincy, which have always served as a hindrance to
the involvement of Christians (Safo Kantanka 1993, 53).
Christianity in Ghana

Today the notion of traditional practices like ancestor worship contradicting Christianity is central
to the discussion of chieftaincy and Christianity. For example in Ghana home movies, traditional
indigenous practice like ancestor worship and the pouring of libation is seen as backward and
unholy. In her article, Between Customs and Christianity, Naomi Wellings states,
Many [Christian chiefs] had faced criticism from other Christians who believed they could not
carry out the various sacrifices or drink offerings to ancestors required of them traditional spiritual
customs which imply a belief in the spiritual power of the dead to change life for the living and
which some Christians view as idolatrous. (Wellings 2006)
Christian chiefs face the dilemma of whether to embrace Christianity and forsake all traditional
religious practices or denounce Christianity? There are different views regarding whether a
Christian can become a chief. The issue of concern regards to the following questions: Is it
possible for a Christian to be a chief and still fully be committed to God and follow the teachings
and commandments of God? Is it sinful to be a Christian and a Chief? Should the church allow a
Christian to become a traditional chief? There are different views regarding the topic of chieftaincy
and Christianity.

Analysis Of Langston Hughes The Weary Blues
In the 1920s, Harlem Renaissance started in the United States as a literary black movement to
combat the anti black racism present in American societal norms and institutions. ##The movement
challenged and rejected the conventionally white dominated standard form of writing. Langston
Hughes, a writer who used his work to combat racism, was a prominent figurehead for this
movement. In his work, The Weary Blues, Hughes, uses the voice of a jazz artist as a mouthpiece
to subtly discuss the harsh realities of African Americanlife. While the speaker of the poem relates
to Hughes s restraint in literature and in life as he must conform to traditional westernized language
and writing form, the artist s pain mirrors Langston Hughess, as he also struggles to conform to
white dominated literary norms.
During the 1920s, African Americans were forced to assimilate to white dominated language norms

On 9 July 2013, Latvia achieved the required conditions to adopt the euro. Its exemption from
participating within the single currency was abrogated with effect from 1 January 2014 (European
Commission, 2014). By joining the currency which is used on a daily basis by over 330 million
Europeans, it has been suggested that economies will be strengthened, their belonging to the
community of European states as well as national identity (Eurozone Portal, 2014). This essay will
firstly provide an overview on the history of the European Union (EU) and euro, here after a
discussion of the euro crisis and advantages and disadvantages to country s adoption of the euro for
its business and competition. Lastly, it will conclude with an evaluation of the decision to join the
single market currency.
The EU previously known as the European Community can be defined as a unique partnership
between 28 European member states operating as the world s largest single market. The union
originated in 1957 through its successor the European Economic Community (EEC) which at the
time had six members. In 2013, the market had a population of around 505 million people and

A Verb Of The Verb
Introduction :
A denominal verb is a grammatical form that refers to an element which originates as a noun but is
used in someway in sentence as a verb. A denominal verb is much distinct than other typical verbs
that are originally born functioning as verbs, i.e, they historically used to be nouns before they
underwent some operations that contributed in the transformation of their lexical category. The
following example illustrates this notion :
1)a. He spent the summer in liverpool
b. He summered in liverpool.
Sentence (1a) involoves two essential parts of our analysis. It is comopsed of a verb (to spend ) and
the noun (summer ) , while sentence (2b) includes one essential element which is the verb ( to
summer ) . thus , the reader can notice that the meaning remains the same even though the number
of elements that form sentence (2b) is reduced . The change in the form of the noun ( summer) into
a verb (to summer) can be seen as a result of a grammatical function changing process that will be
much discussed in chapter 3.Transforation rules took to affect the argument noun (summer) and
merge with another head to move from the object position to the predicate position (Baker 1988) .
This chapter will shed lights on how government binding theory studied this phenomenon. The
chapter is organized as follows . Section 1 is an overview of denominal verbs in English. Section 2
brings to light a semantic classification of denominal verbs

Body Shape Of Beauty
In America, beauty has high, superficial standards. Women are especially expected to have the
perfect body shape: tall and thin with a small waist, big breasts, and a big butt. In reality, only
about 5% of the American population has the ideal body shape (CITE). However, women do not
randomly come up with these issues of their bodies out of the blue. Media plays a large role in
the standards set for women. Magazines, television, and social media all use Photoshop or some
other editing software to make women look perfect . The standards set for women in particular
are unrealistic and are in turn making young girls have serious self esteem issues. These standards
need to be shattered because America needs to embrace all body shapes and promote self love
instead of self hate. The ideal body shapefor women has changed over the years. Until the 1900s,
being curvy and voluptuous was striven for. During the late 1800s to early 1900s, the Gibson
Girl body was all the rage. These women were the ones that started the tiny waist trend, using
corsets to tighten their stomachs. The tiny waist was paired with a big bust to emphasize the
fragile, but curvy body. The 1920s went for more of a lean figure with a short, bob haircut.
During the 40s and 50s, pin up models became very popular. Marilyn Monroe was the most
iconic female of this time. Her body was nowhere near perfect and was fuller. However, these
times were much like the times now, except that artists would draw the model and give her
longer legs, a bigger bust, etc. Today, we have photoshop to do that for us. Once the 1960s hit,
being thin started trending. Twiggy was the style icon of the decade, with her twig thin body and
pixie cut hair. This is still a big trend today. However in recent years, plus size women have started
to be more accepted. With that being said, the plus size women that magazines show are not truly
plus sized, but just a bit larger than the super skinny models. Although men are not in the limelight
as much as women are, they still have undergone changing beauty standards as well. Men have also
gone through body shape trends. During the late 1800s to early 1900s, bigger was better. The
heavier a man was, the more attractive

organizations are trying to make sure that less food go to waste. Here, other than collecting of food
scrap, China could think of ways in which it can collect food and make it into compost. Other
than making of compost it would be vital to reduce foods at various joints such as school

so that they too can try their hand on trying to save. Creation of a saving culture will see to the
institution of a system where people use less cash on food stuff and only buy what they want

extra that they would use on food to the poor: after all, the wasted food can feed all of them and
still have more than seventy million people to feed as excess.
Education is vital since it does not only lessen the waste, but it also make sure that less cash is used
on things that end up being thrown into a dump. The money can be used on more important
ventures such as personal development (Yau, 2013; Tang, 2013)).

Short And Long Term Effects Of The Civil War Essay
In 1776, the Civil War began. Most believe war started over the moral issue of slavery, which was
a huge conflict in society but in fact it started over the economic standpoint of slavery and political
control. A key issue though, was states rights. The South wanted authority over the federal
government so they could abolish federal laws that they didn t support. Territorial expansion was
another factor in the breakout of the Civil War. The South wanted slaveryin the Western territories
while the North was committed to being against slavery. While this was going on, a republican
party was forming with members who were strongly against westward expansion of slavery,
basically taking the North s side. In 1860 when Abraham Lincolntook office, it was made clear to
the South that slavery was not going to expand westward. Therefore, the seven states in the South

A lasting effect of the war was the emancipation of the slaves. It was inevitable that the North
was going to win for a number of reasons. To start off, the North had a demographic advantage
over the South. Since there were more civilians in the North than there were in the South, their
army was always larger. The Confederacy didn t even have a great Navy. Without a strong Navy,
the Confederacy would never be able to really hurt the Union by disrupting it s economy and
blockading its ports. Also, most of the battles took place on Northern territories so they knew the
land. In 1862, the North had captured New Orleans as well. This is important because New
Orleans was the major port for the Confederacy. So to capture it, meant that the South s economy

her poem as a rebuttal to his persuasions, therefore contrasting each other in many ways. Marvell

What Are The Great Moments At St. Francis High School Service
Great moments are born from great opportunities. As a part of the Holy Cross family, we need to
take every opportunity to help each other. This helping is also known as the service program in
St. Francis High School. In the summer of 2013, I took an opportunity to experience the
understanding of Holy Cross and Catholic. I joined the vacation bible camp and taught kids what
is catholic or what we should do as a catholic. Those moments of my service program are indelible
in my mind. On the third day of my service at the vacation bible camp as a teen leader, there was a
six year old kid came and asked me a questionafter the mass. He asked me, Is God really going to
hear my prayer? I was surprised a small kid asking me a question that probably no kids of his age
would ask. I was thinking for a moment and trying to think how I should answer him. I gave him
positive answer which is Yes . The kid is confused for a moment and then asked, Are you sure? I
know the kid was not expecting the answer Yes again, so I gave him another answer. I told him
told every prayer will be heard by God, but God would choose the best plan for you even though
the plan is not always what we want. After I answered, he ran away with some other kids and
started playing. I believed I did a good job answering that question. I taught a catholic kid a
deeper part of Catholic Christian. This is a great moment I experienced as part of the Holy Cross.

what our own President of the United States is doing is trying to keep our allies happy with

Unification of the tribes in Mongol
Genghis Khan didn t like someone who betrayed him. If someone did it, he gave cruel

Different meanings come to thought from this quote: The sacred page is not an end in itself, but a

us like any parent would and made a route for any of us, without a doubt every one of us must
return to him.
God s arrangement of reclamation is the restricted to fix totally the sad consequences of the fall
and to reestablish us to the way we were intended to be. This arrangement of reclamation has as
of now been expert for us at the season of Christ s demise and revival. Be that, as it may, because,
God will NEVER abuse our free wills He sits tight for us to acknowledge his arrangement and after
that to return home to live in his nearness for eternity. Tozer stated, For it is not mere words that

Life Without Bill Gates Essay
As the the inventor of the first computer, William H. Gates Jr. or his nickname, Bill Gates has
impacted the world so greatly that his invention will affect the world for the rest of eternity.
Imagine what life would be like without the computer. People at home would have to write
documents by hand instead typing their documents on google docs. Kids would have to play
outside everyday, without TV or video games. Also, social media wouldn t be available, so people
can t text or facetime each other, but can only call on a old fashioned phone. Last, without
computers, technological advancement wouldn t be possible because most robots need a computer
in their brain. As you can see, without Bill Gates, life would be so boring and complex.
William Henry Gates Jr. was born on October 28, 1955 in Seattle, Washington. He has an older
sister named Kristianne and a younger sister named Libby. His father William H. Gates Sr., was
a lawyer and his mother, Mary Maxwell was a part time teacher. As a child, Bill had a good
relationship with his mother. He would always do science experiments with her. Bill also played
games with his sister and read a whole lot. The 3 siblings were so competitive in everything,
especially in reading that the parents had to ban books from the dinner table so the siblings
would talk more! The result of reading too much was being too smart, so Bill would sometimes
sleep and daydream in class. His life would suddenly change when he was enrolled to

Okonkwo s Violence
Okonkwo s violence in this novel says a lot about his character. The acts of violence keep the
story interesting and also aid the development of the theme. There have been numerous occasions
of violence that clue us, the readers, what kind of man Okonkwo is as well as how their culture is.
Not only do these acts make this story one worth discussing, it makes it one worth reading.
Things Fall Apart is a good book, however it is one with a slow beginning. The book s
introduction is not necessarily interesting until chapter four where he beats his wife during the
week of peace. I think there was a certain culture shock that the only thing wrong with this beating
was the time he decided to do it. It says Okonkwo was not the man to stop beating someone half
way through, not even for fear of a goddess. (21) He beat his wife even though he knew he would
later be punished by the goddess. After that incident their culture became so evident and so
particular that the story was highly alluring. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But his whole life was dominated by fear, the fear of failure and of weakness. (9) There are many
clues throughout the story that display a different side to Okonkwo, one that is compassionate
and caring about others. When the incident with Ezinma occurs it truly shows another side of
Okonkwo. He had felt very anxious but did not show it. (85) He was worried about his daughter
yet was afraid to show it because of the fear that he would be viewed as weak. The subtle hints
throughout this story that clue into Okonkwo s softer side show a possible moral to the story. One
that states even the hardest or seemingly callous of individuals have a softer side, one that emits
compassion and a sensible

Hmong People Movie
Walt was described as a stereotypically racist old man from the beginning of the movie. Walt
used the bad word for everyone around him, whether it is his son or grandchild. He lived alone
in an old neighborhood full of immigrant and refugees. He still holds many prejudices toward the
Asian people because of the experiences he had during the Korean War. From the movie, I can see
that the Korean War also shaped the racial belief of Walt. So this also led to his negative attitude
toward Hmong peoplein his neighborhood even though he knew nothing about them. He used the
racial slur when he first met Thao and slammed the door in Thao s face. Another example is
when he called the Hmong people Chinks , an offensive word to call Chinese. When Sue invited
him to her house BBQ party, he used some racial slurs. He called the Hmong people fish head
when they looking at him after he touched a Hmong girl on the head.... Show more content on

There is a transformation in Walt s belief. Besides the experiences in Korean War, another reason
that leads to his negative attitude toward Hmong people is the language barrier and differences
in culture. He had opportunities to understand more about the tradition of the Hmong people
when Sue invited him to the party at her house. Sue also explained the negative reactions of the
Hmong people with Walt. As Sue said, Hmong people consider looking someone in the eye to be
very rude, and they tend to grin or smile when they are yelled at, this is because they are insecure,
not because they are disrespecting the admonisher. And Walt appeared to accept Sue s
explanation. As he gets closer to the Lor family, his use of racial slurs also changed from the time,
the way he used it could not be seen as an insult

Essay On Mother Tongue
Amy Tan was born to two immigrants from China. She fell in love with literature even though
she was always encouraged to find a career in the math or science field because of her lack in
English. Tan studied at the San Jose State University where she received both her bachelors and
master s degree. Many others and I can relate to what Tan has to go through with having a different
Mother Tongue than others. Tan uses the essay Mother Tongue to inform her audience about how
we all use different Englishes throughout the day. English is a difficult language to learn. People do
not deserve to be mistreated for not knowing perfect English.
Tan always has loved language. Language is such a powerful tool that we use every day. ...it can
evoke an emotion, a visual image, a complex idea, or a simple truth (pg. 479). Different Englishes
are used based on your audience. Depending on if you are at home, work or giving a speech like
Tan. Tan was giving a speech to a large group of people about her book The Joy Luck Club. She
was using a type of language she does not speak at home. The English spoken at home ... Show

Going to public places can be quiet a difficult task when speaking broken English. Tan s mother
had a difficult time at the hospital. She was trying to view her CAT scan results. She used her
best English to be able to communicate with the hospital, to let them know that she was anxious
to see the results. All she was able to understand was that they had lost her results and they didn t
even say sorry. Tan was called to make her message to the hospital clear. The CAT scan results
ended up misplaced and they were very sorry. This was not the only time Tan had been there to
help her mom communicate with others. Acting like her mother, Tan would take phone calls for
her when she needed information. Doing this act made it more easy for her mother to be able to be
understood and to

The Environmental Hazards Of The United States
A common sight to a visitor on a beach in the U.S. is garbage that has been pitched by another
person or washed up on the beach, after it has been carelessly thrown away. All the carelessly
disposed of trash eventually accumulates, rather it be in one place, such as a landfill, or in many
places just dispersed and spread out, like litter. In 1997, Captain Charles Moore came across a
large trash deposit, while sailing in his boat, Alguita, in the pacific. What he encountered that
day could only be described as a floating continent of trash, which today has names such as trash
vortex , plastic soup , and Eastern Garbage Patch (Friedman 7 10). The mass of trash is still
present today and is calculated to be twice the size of the U.S., weighing in at around 100
million tons of trash (Friedman 7). This garbage patch is one of the leading growing
environmental hazards of the world today. The trash has been linked to cancer, caused by the
toxins released in the water from the plastics, the killing of seabirds, and the killing of more than a
100,000 marine mammals each year (Friedman 9). This is one of the negative effects human trash
is having on the planet and how people are now turning to recyclingto help resolve problems
similar to this. Today people in the U.S. alone produce 245 million tons of trash a year, which
helps contribute to problems like the trash vortex (Lazarus 13). Recycling would help cut this trash
flow significantly, while having other positive effects, if

Television s Effects on the Natural Environment Essay
Television s Effects on the Natural Environment You may be thinking, How on earth could the TV
have an affect on our natural environment? and you have every right to. At first glance, it may seem
impossible that the TV can have an effect on our natural surroundings; but, nevertheless, it does.
One of the ways that the TV can have an effect on our surroundings is by the amount of power that
is needed to run all of the TV s in the world. I realize, that compared to other appliances, a
television does not use a huge amount of energy. But think about this: almost every family in
America has at least one TV if not more (some people that I know have upwards of 6 and 7). Can
you imagine the power it must take to run all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You ve seen some examples of the bad; now let us focus on the good.
These same people that I have just talked about above can also help the environment. Scientists who
make documentaries can be very helpful to the environment as well. If they are able to travel
into the wilderness to study animals and wildlife, a video camera can be a useful tool. The
scientists, with the help of a video camera, can record their observations of these animals and
view them later on a television or place them on television where others, who were not able to
travel to the particular location, can watch and observe these animals as well. The ability to do this
helps the environment in two ways: 1) It helps scientists and other experts understand our natural
world much better enabling them to help preserve it, and it 2) promotes education of the
environment to those who are not scientists. As you can see, the TV has an effect on our
environment for good and bad, even though it may be indirect.
When I say natural environment, you probably only think about the ways in which it affects our
land and animals, but there is another aspect: human health. Television has had a great impact on
human health since its invention in 1926. Americans, and humans in general, spend huge amounts
of time watching television each year. When people watch TV, they are giving up time in which
they could be exercising. As a consequence of this lack of exercise,

Should Chewing Gum Be Allowed In Schools
Should Chewing Gum Be Allowed In Schools? There is a debate over chewing gum in almost
every school across the world. Should chewing gum be allowed in schools? People argue whether
or not gum helps students focus and relax, or is a distraction. Students should be able to chew
gum in school because it helps them focus and relax, although others may argue it can be a
distraction. Have you ever felt like you can t retain any information or focus while studying? If so,
you should try chewing gum. Many people have tested if chewing gumwhile taking a test improves
your scores, and it has been proven true many times. However, chewing gum is not allowed in
school. This should become a privilege because students are more likely to get a... Show more

A complaint by most teachers is that gum is messy and a huge distraction. That is the reason
why most schools are against gum chewing. Students may stick their gum under their desk or
chairs or not dispose of it properly. This causes the janitors to clean up the sticky, gooey mess.
Some people believe that chewing gum is the nastiest habit in the world. It can impede the
learning process, and gum chewing can be noisy and distracting to other students (Chewing Gum
In School). Not only will the whole classroom sound like cows, but it will turn into a garbage can
for students. When students dispose of their wad s around the school, it looks very unprofessional
to upcoming students. According to Jake Miller, Compared to the high school that I taught at, at
which is less than 10 years old i still remember going to get a drink from the water fountain that
was splattered in gum, someone even wrapping their gum around the faucet (The Educator s
Room). Gum chewing is not allowed in many schools, but most students do not follow the rules
and chew their gum anyways. However, teachers should still allow chewing gum in classrooms. If
the students would to agree to dispose of their gum properly, and chew it without anyone hearing
them, gum should be allowed. Their grades are more important to the students and parents, and if
gum will help with the progression of that, it should be

At the time Ohio had a statute that made the possession of obscene literature criminal. At Mapp s trial no search warrant was admitted into evidence, however she was still convicted. The Court citing Wolf vs Colorado found that evidence obtained from an unlawful search and seizure is admissible in criminal prosecution. On appeal, the Supreme Court of the United States reversed the judgment and remanded the case to the Court. unlawful searches and seizure right to privacy Issues: Is evidence obtained in violation of the fourth amendment, prohibiting unreasonable searches and seizures admissible as evidence in criminal ... However, the concurring opinion gave by Justice Hugo Black stated that the fourth amendment ban against unreasonable searches and seizures along with the fifth amendment s ban against forced self incrimination defends the exclusionary rule. Another concurring opinion was made by Justice William Douglas believed that the officers had violated Mapp s right to privacy . Dissenting Opinion: Justice Harlan, Justices Frankfurter and Whittaker dissented. Justice Harlan wrote the dissenting opinion. In his dissent, Justice Harlan argued that the majority confronted the wrong issue in its decision. Because Mapp was convicted under an Ohio statute criminalizing the possession of obscene material, Justice Harlan believed that the new and pivotal issue was whether this statute is consistent with the rights of free thought and expression assured against state action by the Fourteenth Amendment.(Mapp vs Ohio) He concluded that the majority had ignored the principles of judicial restraint and stare decisis, and had reached out to consider the exclusionary rule issue. According to Justice Harlan, this was a First Amendment case and not an appropriate case for extending the Fourth Amendment s exclusionary rule to the states. He also concluded that it was wrong to impose the exclusionary rule, designed for the federal criminal process, on the states which, in his view, bore quite ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Chemical Supply s Liability Rylands v Fletcher established that a person who for his own purposes brings on his lands and collects and keeps there anything likely to do mischief if it escapes, must keep it in at his peril, and if he does not do so , is prima facie answerable for all the damage which is the natural consequence of its escape. The rule therefore imposes strict liability on the defendant for all damage which occurs as a natural consequence of the escape, and there is no requirement for intent or neglect. The rule only applies to defendants who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Industrial Estate s Liability The rule in Rylands applies to owners of premises as well as occupiers, but Bell would have difficulty overcoming the proofs outlined in respect of Industrial, namely accumulation for Industrial s benefit etc. and the absence of any control by Industrial over the harmful substances. Liability would be more successfully attached to Industrial in negligence for its failure to keep the road in a good state of repair. Firstly, Bell will need to establish that it owed a duty of care to it. As Lord Atkin stated in O Donoghue v Stevensonyou must take reasonable care to avoid acts or omission which you can reasonably foresee would be liable to injure your neighbour. While neighbour in this sense does not strictly mean persons who occupy the property beside you, it was established in Glencar Explorations v Mayo Co.Co. that if a plaintiff and defendant s relationship is sufficiently proximate, and the harm caused was foreseeable, then in the absence of policy limitations, a duty of care would arise. Bell should be able to establish a duty of care in that by failing to maintain the road in a good condition, it was reasonably foreseeable that such failure could cause injury to Bell s property, as Industrial knew that tanks full of harmful substances travelled on the road on a daily basis, and that if such chemicals were to escape due to an accident caused by the defective road, they would ... Making A Murderer Essay Questions Mrs.Malone Final Exam In the non fictional Tv series Making a Murderer, it shows how the criminal justice system can have people wrongfully convicted, tampering with evidence, and unjustified persecution. These aren t just the only problems with the system, there are many more wrongful things that happen but these are the main ones in this case. We can do many things to stop all of the problems with the American Criminal Justice System, we can crack down on who visits the crime scene, use more evidence when convicting somebody, And using the justice system and have hard evidence to sentence someone for a crime. Brendan Dassey was Steven Avery s nephew and he was 16 when he got convicted of the crime so he was a miner at the time but they didn t have any permission to question him so he shouldn t get in trouble even though they made a mistake. • 8. The Themes Of Women In Carrie By Stephen King Boys will be boys, and girls will be brutal. At least, that s the impression one gets from reading Stephen King s novel, Carrie. Endless bullying from all students on Carrie White is common at Ewen High, where the novel takes place, however, the bullying is taken more seriously by the girls. Carrie lives an unfortunate life, alone with her strictly religious mother. These factors lead to the wrath of CarrieWhite, the downfall of herself, and well, just about everyone else. King uses the theme of women and femininity to demonstrate that females often conform to hateful stereotypes, are completely different from men, and to show how religion can play a role in this. The first lesson King gives the reader is how stupid and brutal women can be when sticking together in large groups. In the opening scene, all of the girls in gym class were taking showers when Carrie Whitenoticed she was bleeding down her legs. While the other girls understood what was happening, Carriedid not; she thought she was dying. Thinking that Carrie had had her period before, all of the girls, including the good ones, begin to chant plug it up and throw feminine products at Carrie. It is no wonder that King often uses metaphors about farm animals to describe girls in the novel, as they stick together in herds. As recalled by the gym teacher, I m living in a glass house, see. I understand how those girls felt. The whole thing just made me want to take [Carrie] and shake her. Maybe there s some ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is entirely effective in drawing the consideration of organizations of all sizes. An extensive number of organizations are taking after Lean advancements and encountering unlimited upgrades in quality, production, customer service etc. According to lean principles, any use of resources that does not deliver consumer value is a target for change or elimination. It also refers to the elimination of non value adding/wastes. This Lean approach has mainly been applied in manufacturing, notably in Toyota, and the Toyota Production System, from where Lean originates in the early 1960 s but not to a complete extent. However, lean has also been widely applied in non manufacturing areas. Lean Management , or rather Lean production is considered to be a smart approach on a system of measures and methodologies. • 10. Identity In Maxine Hong Kingston s The Warrior Woman Identity is a complex structure, however while complex and seemingly structured, it can also be very fluid. Identity is a prominent factor in not only how we represent ourselves to others, but also how we view ourselves. Not solidifying how you see yourself can be a long, tormenting process filled with doubt, conflict, and misunderstanding, however once you know yourself, a calming, peaceful, and fulfilling feeling comes over you like a rainbow after a thunderstorm. In Maxine Hong Kingstons memoir, The Warrior Woman, she endures the process of defining herself over a series of stories, not all of which are hers, and ultimately, comes to a conclusion about what her identityreally is. Through becoming a background character, participating in anti cultural behaviors, and adding her own crucial embellishments throughout her mother s stories, Kingston navigates her own selfness and pieces together a fluid, yet satisfying identity as a storyteller, based on the identities of others. Kingston shifts the traditional autobiographical center of I off balance and often makes the narrator almost a background character. In her memoir, she tells the audience about herself via embellishments on stories from her mother about other people, in conjunction with some stories of Kingston s own life. This method of sharing her personal journey with the audience tells a lot about her internal struggle between following traditional Chinese ideologies, or conforming to the latter half of the ... • 11. A Conservationist Manifesto Analysis A Conservationist Manifesto In A Conservationist Manifesto, Scott Russell Sanders argues that consumerism is a destructive force in the nation. He offers a solution: As an antidote to this culture of consumption, extravagance, and waste that dominates America today, we need to imagine a culture of conservation. Sanders encourages readers to think of a new way to exist in the natural world. Sanders enlightened my perspective on the mass amount of consumption that we suffer in America. As the population of the U.S. continues to proliferate day by day, resources we possess both materialistically and naturally must be preserved. According to Sanders, There are more people living in poverty than the amount of people alive in the 1900 s. I never perceived conservation to be a critical subject; however, after noticing the amount of devastation within the wilderness and our waters caused by the lack of conservation, I realized we must reassess the exploitation of natural resources.... • 14. Analysis Of The Book The Big Boat The Big Boat Going to the LACMA art museum was a very good experience to see many different types of artwork by different artists. In 1920 Robert Michel created a painting named Ship , which it contained many visual elements such as cool and warm colors curvilinear geometric figures. First of all, Michel shows the viewer a lot of curvilinear lines meaning a consisting of, bounded by, or characterized by a curved line, or a along a curved line of a set of coordinates determined by or determining a system of three orthogonal surfaces (definition from the internet). Geometric meaning, a set of points or vertices lines connecting the points in a closed chain, as well as the resulting interior points. Such shapes are called polygons and include triangles, squares, and pentagons (definition from the internet). And irregular shapes meaning polygon that does not have all sides equal and all angles equal. A polygon is regular only when all angles are equal and all sides are equal, otherwise it is irregular (definition from the internet). He also adds warm, cool and intensity colors to catch the viewer attention. The person analyzing the painting really has to pay very close attention to Micheles art work. Michele tends to add a lot of small detail to his art work mostly about life; such as the sea representing water, animals like elephants, numbers, moving flags representing air, two humans in the house representing a family, a clock representing time, rims, and boats both ... It is believed that Homer s account may have been based on a real event therefore having some truth but due to the mythological nature of the source, the unreliability of oral transmission and the exaggerated romantic theme, the account is not a valid source for historians. Written evidence such as the Hittite records and the different theories presented by archaeologists Schliemann, Dorpfield, Blegen and Korfmann strongly suggest the occurrence of a war in troy and have some links to the Iliad. Heinrich Schliemann was one of the first archaeologists who discovered the site based on geological descriptions in Homer s Iliad. Through the excavation of the site, Schliemann uncovered nine major layers on the mound and concluded that level 2 was Homer s Troy. Archaeologists who came later criticised Schliemann s amateurish excavation methods and concluded that level two was too early to be the Homeric Troy. Despite Schliemann s destruction and false claims of the site, his discovery of Hissarlik proved that there is some truth to Homer s account and deserves some credit for setting the foundation for archaeologists such as Blegen, Dorpfield and Korfmann. Schliemann s discovery of the site proved that there is no doubt Troy existed and that the city s destruction was definite. Wilhelm Dorpfield was one of many archaeologists who began excavations and studies at Hissarlik. Level VI was the level that Dorpfield believes is the legendary Troy. He argued that Level VI fitted Homer s description as being a grand city surrounded by high limestone walls. However, there was no evidence of Greek camps outside the walls of the city that supported Homer s account of a ten year siege, thus leading us to conclude that Level VIIa must ve been the Homeric Troy. To maximize profit, insurance firms must juggle three components of monopolistic competition; price, product, and advertising. In specific reference to automobile liability insurance pricing systems, the risk factors that derive price include insurer risk, regulation, geographical region, and investment returns. The rates are comprised of fixed and variable costs. Fixed costs are relatively low because of minimal operational expenses whereas variable costs are high because of the relatively unlimited risks. The insurance firm is pricing for the long run equilibrium output so that price exceeds the minimum average costs for a normal return. An oligopoly is a market structure in which a few firms sell either a standardized or differentiated product into which entry is difficult in which the firm has limited control over product price because of mutual interdependence (except when there is collusion among firms) and in which there is typically non price competition (McConnell and Brue, 2004). The Character Of Roger Chillingworth And Arthur Dimmesdale The setting is in Boston, Massachusetts, It s cold and a heavy rain is falling down from the sky almost as if god himself was crying over the sinful actions he has seen come from his so called wonderful creation. Moreover, Chillingworth does not just torture the minister he also makes sure he is kept in good health so he may stay alive and prolong his twisted enjoyment. This could be found in paragraph fourteen it reads But for my aid, his life would have burned away in torments within the first two years after the perpetration of his crime and thine. In these lines he is boasting how the minister would have already died without his medical knowledge, as if he were trying to explain that what he had done hasn t been all bad and his actions should actually be celebrated. This can show the reader how Chillingworth to some extent was denying his sins trying belittle them. Frost writes his sonnet differently than the accepted norm of the time, and his subject is unlike any other: exploring the identity of a young adult. Frost, as usual, puts a spin on the normal conventions of poetry. He leans toward the English sonnet, writing in iambic pentameter with fourteen lines separated into three quatrains a set of four lines and a couplet set apart at the end. However, Frost sets an unusual rhyme scheme for a sonnet. He rhymes each of his lines in pairs, or couplets. In lines 1 8, the speaker deals with the idea of adolescent identity ( Into My Own by Robert Frostpara. 2). Note that the title isn t On My Own, which would suggest a need for independence, but Into My Own, suggesting a transformation from child into mature individual (Literary Analysis into my own para.1). • 31. A Verb Of The Verb Introduction : A denominal verb is a grammatical form that refers to an element which originates as a noun but is used in someway in sentence as a verb. A denominal verb is much distinct than other typical verbs that are originally born functioning as verbs, i.e, they historically used to be nouns before they underwent some operations that contributed in the transformation of their lexical category. The following example illustrates this notion : 1)a. He spent the summer in liverpool b. He summered in liverpool. Sentence (1a) involoves two essential parts of our analysis. It is comopsed of a verb (to spend ) and the noun (summer ) , while sentence (2b) includes one essential element which is the verb ( to summer ) . thus , the reader can notice that the meaning remains the same even though the number of elements that form sentence (2b) is reduced . The change in the form of the noun ( summer) into a verb (to summer) can be seen as a result of a grammatical function changing process that will be much discussed in chapter 3.Transforation rules took to affect the argument noun (summer) and merge with another head to move from the object position to the predicate position (Baker 1988) . • 32. Body Shape Of Beauty In America, beauty has high, superficial standards. Women are especially expected to have the perfect body shape: tall and thin with a small waist, big breasts, and a big butt. In reality, only about 5% of the American population has the ideal body shape (CITE). However, women do not randomly come up with these issues of their bodies out of the blue. Media plays a large role in the standards set for women. Magazines, television, and social media all use Photoshop or some other editing software to make women look perfect . The standards set for women in particular are unrealistic and are in turn making young girls have serious self esteem issues. These standards need to be shattered because America needs to embrace all body shapes and promote self love instead of self hate. The ideal body shapefor women has changed over the years. Until the 1900s, being curvy and voluptuous was striven for. During the late 1800s to early 1900s, the Gibson Girl body was all the rage. These women were the ones that started the tiny waist trend, using corsets to tighten their stomachs. The tiny waist was paired with a big bust to emphasize the fragile, but curvy body. The 1920s went for more of a lean figure with a short, bob haircut. During the 40s and 50s, pin up models became very popular. Marilyn Monroe was the most iconic female of this time. Her body was nowhere near perfect and was fuller. However, these times were much like the times now, except that artists would draw the model and give her longer legs, a bigger bust, etc. Today, we have photoshop to do that for us. Once the 1960s hit, being thin started trending. Twiggy was the style icon of the decade, with her twig thin body and pixie cut hair. This is still a big trend today. However in recent years, plus size women have started to be more accepted. With that being said, the plus size women that magazines show are not truly plus sized, but just a bit larger than the super skinny models. Although men are not in the limelight as much as women are, they still have undergone changing beauty standards as well. Men have also gone through body shape trends. Buri who were one of the leaders of Jurkin kept winning but he was lost by Belgutei (Sakaki 30). He was bent until his back was broken and he was dragged out of the feast (Sakaki 30). • 39. Sacred Page Essay Different meanings come to thought from this quote: The sacred page is not an end in itself, but a means to bring men to an intimate and satisfying knowledge of God, that they may enter into Him, that they may delight in His Presence, may taste and know the inner sweetness of the very God Himself in the core and center of their hearts, but only the means toward the end, which is knowing GodHimself. (A. W. Tozer, 1897 1963) The sacred page could well represent the spiritual experiences that ones pursuit in seeking after God. In seeking after God, it is an ongoing daily spiritual walk. One may lay out steps in their struggle to maintain the spiritual walk. At the end is everything. Paul stated, I have fought the good fight, I have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He needed us to do our part as one with Him. We were made to rely upon Him for all that we required in carrying on with our life and fulfilling the plan and calling on our lives. We should present this investigation with what we realized first. We were made for God. Every one of us were perverse far from our actual home, when sin entered the world and turned into the standard for men. Since the fall, man meanders this world free from God and far from His nearness. The main path for us to return to the things of God is to acknowledge the arrangement of recovery that God laid out with His Son Jesus before the establishments of the world. He cherishes us like any parent would and made a route for any of us, without a doubt every one of us must return to him. God s arrangement of reclamation is the restricted to fix totally the sad consequences of the fall and to reestablish us to the way we were intended to be. This arrangement of reclamation has as of now been expert for us at the season of Christ s demise and revival. Be that, as it may, because, God will NEVER abuse our free wills He sits tight for us to acknowledge his arrangement and after that to return home to live in his nearness for eternity. • 40. Life Without Bill Gates Essay As the the inventor of the first computer, William H. Gates Jr. or his nickname, Bill Gates has impacted the world so greatly that his invention will affect the world for the rest of eternity. Imagine what life would be like without the computer. People at home would have to write documents by hand instead typing their documents on google docs. Kids would have to play outside everyday, without TV or video games. Also, social media wouldn t be available, so people can t text or facetime each other, but can only call on a old fashioned phone. Last, without computers, technological advancement wouldn t be possible because most robots need a computer in their brain. As you can see, without Bill Gates, life would be so boring and complex. William Henry Gates Jr. was born on October 28, 1955 in Seattle, Washington. He has an older sister named Kristianne and a younger sister named Libby. His father William H. Gates Sr., was a lawyer and his mother, Mary Maxwell was a part time teacher. As a child, Bill had a good relationship with his mother. He would always do science experiments with her. • 42. Okonkwo s Violence Okonkwo s violence in this novel says a lot about his character. The acts of violence keep the story interesting and also aid the development of the theme. There have been numerous occasions of violence that clue us, the readers, what kind of man Okonkwo is as well as how their culture is. Not only do these acts make this story one worth discussing, it makes it one worth reading. Things Fall Apart is a good book, however it is one with a slow beginning. The book s introduction is not necessarily interesting until chapter four where he beats his wife during the week of peace. I think there was a certain culture shock that the only thing wrong with this beating was the time he decided to do it. It says Okonkwo was not the man to stop beating someone half way through, not even for fear of a goddess. (21) He beat his wife even though he knew he would later be punished by the goddess. After that incident their culture became so evident and so particular that the story was highly alluring. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But his whole life was dominated by fear, the fear of failure and of weakness. (9) There are many clues throughout the story that display a different side to Okonkwo, one that is compassionate and caring about others. When the incident with Ezinma occurs it truly shows another side of Okonkwo. He had felt very anxious but did not show it. (85) He was worried about his daughter yet was afraid to show it because of the fear that he would be viewed as weak. The subtle hints throughout this story that clue into Okonkwo s softer side show a possible moral to the story. One that states even the hardest or seemingly callous of individuals have a softer side, one that emits compassion and a sensible ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Hmong People Movie Walt was described as a stereotypically racist old man from the beginning of the movie. Walt used the bad word for everyone around him, whether it is his son or grandchild. He lived alone in an old neighborhood full of immigrant and refugees. He still holds many prejudices toward the Asian people because of the experiences he had during the Korean War. From the movie, I can see that the Korean War also shaped the racial belief of Walt. So this also led to his negative attitude toward Hmong peoplein his neighborhood even though he knew nothing about them. He used the racial slur when he first met Thao and slammed the door in Thao s face. Another example is when he called the Hmong people Chinks , an offensive word to call Chinese. When Sue invited him to her house BBQ party, he used some racial slurs. He called the Hmong people fish head when they looking at him after he touched a Hmong girl on the head.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is a transformation in Walt s belief. Besides the experiences in Korean War, another reason that leads to his negative attitude toward Hmong people is the language barrier and differences in culture. He had opportunities to understand more about the tradition of the Hmong people when Sue invited him to the party at her house. Sue also explained the negative reactions of the Hmong people with Walt. As Sue said, Hmong people consider looking someone in the eye to be very rude, and they tend to grin or smile when they are yelled at, this is because they are insecure, not because they are disrespecting the admonisher. And Walt appeared to accept Sue s explanation. As he gets closer to the Lor family, his use of racial slurs also changed from the time, the way he used it could not be seen as an insult ... • 47. The Environmental Hazards Of The United States A common sight to a visitor on a beach in the U.S. is garbage that has been pitched by another person or washed up on the beach, after it has been carelessly thrown away. All the carelessly disposed of trash eventually accumulates, rather it be in one place, such as a landfill, or in many places just dispersed and spread out, like litter. In 1997, Captain Charles Moore came across a large trash deposit, while sailing in his boat, Alguita, in the pacific. What he encountered that day could only be described as a floating continent of trash, which today has names such as trash vortex , plastic soup , and Eastern Garbage Patch (Friedman 7 10). The mass of trash is still present today and is calculated to be twice the size of the U.S., weighing in at around 100 million tons of trash (Friedman 7). This garbage patch is one of the leading growing environmental hazards of the world today. The trash has been linked to cancer, caused by the toxins released in the water from the plastics, the killing of seabirds, and the killing of more than a 100,000 marine mammals each year (Friedman 9). This is one of the negative effects human trash is having on the planet and how people are now turning to recyclingto help resolve problems similar to this. Today people in the U.S. alone produce 245 million tons of trash a year, which helps contribute to problems like the trash vortex (Lazarus 13). Recycling would help cut this trash flow significantly, while having other positive effects, if ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Television s Effects on the Natural Environment Essay Television s Effects on the Natural Environment You may be thinking, How on earth could the TV have an affect on our natural environment? and you have every right to. At first glance, it may seem impossible that the TV can have an effect on our natural surroundings; but, nevertheless, it does. One of the ways that the TV can have an effect on our surroundings is by the amount of power that is needed to run all of the TV s in the world. I realize, that compared to other appliances, a television does not use a huge amount of energy. But think about this: almost every family in America has at least one TV if not more (some people that I know have upwards of 6 and 7). Can you imagine the power it must take to run all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... You ve seen some examples of the bad; now let us focus on the good. These same people that I have just talked about above can also help the environment. Scientists who make documentaries can be very helpful to the environment as well. If they are able to travel into the wilderness to study animals and wildlife, a video camera can be a useful tool. The scientists, with the help of a video camera, can record their observations of these animals and view them later on a television or place them on television where others, who were not able to travel to the particular location, can watch and observe these animals as well. The ability to do this helps the environment in two ways: 1) It helps scientists and other experts understand our natural world much better enabling them to help preserve it, and it 2) promotes education of the environment to those who are not scientists. As you can see, the TV has an effect on our environment for good and bad, even though it may be indirect. When I say natural environment, you probably only think about the ways in which it affects our land and animals, but there is another aspect: human health. Television has had a great impact on human health since its invention in 1926. Americans, and humans in general, spend huge amounts of time watching television each year. When people watch TV, they are giving up time in which they could be exercising. As a consequence of this lack of exercise, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

That is the reason why most schools are against gum chewing. Students may stick their gum under their desk or chairs or not dispose of it properly. This causes the janitors to clean up the sticky, gooey mess. Some people believe that chewing gum is the nastiest habit in the world. It can impede the learning process, and gum chewing can be noisy and distracting to other students (Chewing Gum In School). Not only will the whole classroom sound like cows, but it will turn into a garbage can for students. When students dispose of their wad s around the school, it looks very unprofessional to upcoming students. According to Jake Miller, Compared to the high school that I taught at, at which is less than 10 years old i still remember going to get a drink from the water fountain that was splattered in gum, someone even wrapping their gum around the faucet (The Educator s Room). Gum chewing is not allowed in many schools, but most students do not follow the rules and chew their gum anyways. However, teachers should still allow chewing gum in classrooms. If the students would to agree to dispose of their gum properly, and chew it without anyone hearing them, gum should be allowed. Their grades are more important to the students and parents, and if gum will help with the progression of that, it should be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
