Touch Reaction Times
Visual, Auditory and Touch Reaction Times
Nick Marshall, Jack Wilson, Angus Newman: 8F 4 /6/2018
Introduction:
The purpose of this investigation is to examine the differences in reaction times when using different
stimuli. This investigation relates to the nervous and brain systems in the human body. When your
senses pick up clues from the outside world it takes a small amount of time for you to recognize the
signal and respond. (Yuhas, 2018) Reaction time is the measure of speed from which your brain
recognises a stimulus, to the reaction, possibly movement. The process of reacting is carried out by
many neurons as well as numerous systems and circuits in the brain. (Yuhas, 2018). There ... Show

Previous studies produced results that show that touch is the fastest, then auditory and finally visual
with the averagely slowest reaction time. This data suggests that visual stimuli cause the fastest
reaction, followed by auditory, and finally touch. The average in time for visual stimuli was 0.170
seconds. Previous results have evidenced that visual stimulus is the slowest, with an average time of
0.25 seconds. This experiment contradicts these results. The second fastest reaction time was caused
by an auditory stimulus. This produced an average reading of 0.176 seconds. This is similar to
previous results. However, there is a small discrepancy of 0.006 seconds between the previous results
and the results of this test. Finally, touch stimulus was the slowest in this experiment. This contradicts
previous results. In other tests the touch stimulus was the fastest at 0.15 seconds, whereas in this
experiment it was the slowest: 0.193 seconds. When gravity pulled the rulers to the mass of the earth,
it took time for the subject to recognise the movement and to react to it. These results contradict
previous experiments. The brain signals were processed on average more slowly than in previous
experiments. However, this experiment could have been unfair and biased. When the auditory and
touch tests were carried out, there was most likely a small amount of time between the call or touch
and the ruler being dropped. Also, test subjects were changed throughout the experiment. This would
have caused a discrepancy in the results, because different subjects may have had different personal
reaction times due to several factors. Also, the age could have had an effect. In this experiment we
used 13 year old test subjects. It is unknown of the age of the previous experiments. This experiment
could have been improved by conducting more tests over a range of people to calculate a more global

Essay about Morality in Richard III by William Shakespeare
Morality in Richard III by William Shakespeare In Richard III, Shakespeare invites us on moral
holiday. The early part of the play draws its readers to identify with Richard and thereby to participate
in a fantasy of total control of self and domination of others. We begin to be pulled into the fantasy in
the play s opening speech, where Richard presents himself as an enterprising, self made villain and
offers an elaborate justification for this self he renovation. In the first scene of the play, Richard
announces in a narration, his plan to become king. Richard is truly a Machiavel. A Machiavel is one
who views politics as amoral and that any means, however unscrupulous, ... Show more content on

A villain must also have scapegoats to use if he is discovered or if he is in a dangerous situation .
Richard devised a brutal stratagem to ascend the English throne. Brilliantly, he executed his plan.
Heartlessly, he executed family, friends, and subjects. Richard did indeed display these characteristics
and, therefore, fulfilled his goal to ascend the throne. One of many Richard s brilliant schemes was to
increase public support for his own claim to the crown. Richard, aided by Buckingham, enacts shows
of devotion, kindness, religiousness and other virtues, which recommend him to the citizenry and
especially to the Lord Mayor and aldermen of London. This done, he finally wins the mayor and the
alderman over and receives the offer to the supreme seat, the throne majestically, the scepter office of
his ancestors themselves, the lineal glory of his royal house . After some false persuasion by the Duke
of Buckingham, Richard finally accepts the golden yoke of sovereignty. Some Critics feel that not all
of Richard s victims were innocent, they were hypocritical and were trying to use Richard, but that is
another topic. Richard is, simply, too clever to be outwitted. As a king, Richard did not succeed. He

Similarities Between Pretty Woman and Breakfast at...
Have you ever seen immoral films? I have. According to the dictionary of American English (4th Ed.
Longman), Immoral is defined as morally wrong, and not acceptable by society. Pretty Woman and
Breakfast at Tiffany s are two very immoral movie pictures. Although, they have a lot of differences;
however, they are similar in three specific ways: their attraction, their poverty, and their
transformation One important similarity between Pretty Woman and Breakfast at Tiffany s is their
attraction. In Pretty Woman, Vivian is a Los Angeles prostitute with her lifestyle and a need to pay her
rent meets Edward Lewis, a wealthy, a successful businessman on Hollywood Boulevard to ask for
directions. She was willing to assist him, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After 2E leaves, Holly enters Paul s apartment and learns that he is a writer who has not had anything
published in five years. Another similarity is their poverty. Not only Vivian, but also Holly does not
have any money, they are very poor. They have almost the same lifestyle because all of them were
looking for money. They were willing to do anything to survive and pay their rent. Their dreams are
one day to find somewhere out, there is a rich, good looking and intelligent man who is looking to
marry them. Vivian couldn t go shopping on Rodeo Drive; the saleswomen disdain her because of her
unsophisticated appearance. She was trying to talk to Barnard Thompson (Hector Elizondo), the hotel
manager pretending that Edward was her uncle, after a long conversation he surrenders and decides to
help her buy a dress, even coaching her on dinner etiquette. Holly, her job was every weekly visit to
Sally Tomato (Alan Reed), a mobster confined at Sing Sing prison. Tomato s lawyer O Shaughnessy
pays her $100 a week to receive the weather report.
Last but not least, one similarity between Vivian and Holly are their transformation. Anyone can see
that Vivian has been transformed. Edward returns and is visibly amazed by Vivian s transformation.
Vivian job is to escort Edward everywhere and she needs to be well dressed. She does her job very
well. The first one was to go to the business dinner. It does not end well, however, with Edward

Spartacus Film Analysis
Spartacus, 1960, is a film directed by Stanley Kubrick based on the Novel Spartacus by Howard Fast.
The film follows the life of a slave named Spartacus who fought for his own freedom which led to the
Third Servile War. The Third Servile War, also named the War of Spartacus, was slave insurrections
against the Roman Republic. Although Spartacus s main enemy is all of Rome and its culture, like
most heroes portrayed in film, Spartacus s main antagonist is a Roman senator Marcus Licinius
Crassus, whose ultimate goal is to become dictator of Rome. However, does the film Spartacus follow
closely to historical facts, or is it another film dramatized to entertain the public as Hollywood does?
Hollywood dramatizing historical events in history is not necessarily considered a bad thing. But how
far will Hollywood go to dramatize historical events in order to entertain the public? With the addition
of Hollywood flair, it removes the impact that film had on Spartacus according to historical accuracy.
Robert Rosenstone, a professor of California Institute of Technology, has written many different
genres from history, fiction, poetry, etc., has said, historical film has been making its impact upon us
for many years now, and its time that we began to take it seriously. By this I mean we must begin to
look at film, ... (p. 1). According to Rosenstone, historians have been able to adapt to the new style of
learning within classrooms. Whether it be the inability of some teachers to teach

Aardwolves Compare And Contrast
Amazingly, aardvarks and aardwolves can eat 300,000 termites in one night! That s probably more
than all the termites you have seen in your life. Aardvarks and aardwolves have similar diets and
habitats, but they live very different lives. Both aardvarks and aardwolves have features that help them
survive and get their food. These mammals are about three feet long. Aardwolves can grow to be 30
pounds; however aardvarks can grow to be 140 pounds. Aardwolves have yellowish white fur with
black stripes, while aardvarks have grayish brown short coarse hair. They both have long sticky
tongues, but aardvarks also have long ears and powerful claws and feet. Aardvarks and aardwolves
both have similar diets but get their food differently. They

Hrm 534 Course Project Proposal
Science Application International Corporation (SAIC) is the organization I work for. It is a service
based company that provides its expertise to the Department of Defense and the Federal Government
as well as other smaller organizations. I ve been approved to work remotely and have been actively
doing it for over five years. My proposal for SAIC is to expand the ability to work remotely to a larger
group of employees.
Some reasons to expand remote work includes; saving time, saving money, and reducing resources
usage. Employees will have a better work/life balance, have improved productivity, and have the
flexibility to schedule work around personal needs. These employee improvements will lead to less
stress, better creativity, and higher performance, and better job satisfaction. Allowing more employees
to work from home can prevent a future need to expand to larger office spaces.
A force field analysis was used to help decide in favor of the intervention showing the driving forces
outweigh the restraining forces. A SWOT analysis was used to identify the organizations strengths and
weaknesses as well as its external ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

To provide the Desire, we will articulate what the change is and how it will impact each employee.
Knowledge of the documentation necessary to work from home is provided with the company
documentation as well as a link from the intranet article. The Ability to make the change is fairly easy,
but there will need to be some skills developed to keep the work from home person on track with their
tasks as well as demonstrate ways to keep in touch with co workers. Reinforcement will come in the
accountability for working from home as well as demonstrating that working from home provides no
negative consequences to the employee s ability to perform their job

Punk Rock Subculture
Punk Rock in America: The Development, the Youth Subculture and Salt Lake City
In both the United States and Great Britain, a genre of music, now known as punk rock was
developing in the late 1960s and 1970s that would provide an outlet for the emotions young adults
were feeling at that time. For the purpose of this paper, I will focus on the development of punk in the
United States, however punk rock arose at the same time in both the US and Great Britain, and had
what one might describe as a symbiotic, yet adversarial relationship (Stalcup). Therefore, one cannot
completely disregard the development of punk rock in Great Britain while discussing the development
of punk rock in America. In the US, punk rock arose on the east coast, mostly ... Show more content

American punk bands first began on the east coast in places such as New York City as a counteraction
to the sounds being played during the time, such as The Beach Boys surfer sounds, folk music and
disco. Lou Reed and the Velvet Underground were some of the first pioneers in what would become
American punk. After the Velvet s demise...New York was a hotbed of activity in the early 1970s
(Stalcup). One of the best punk clubs in New York City during this time is known as CBGB (Country
Blue Grass and Blues). Many groups such as the New York Dolls and Television, got their start either
at CBGB or in New York as a whole. Television would go on to become a band that influenced others
to speak to the youth subculture. With Television s song, (I Belong to the) Blank Generation
Television emphasized the emptiness of his generation, on the chorus, I belong to the blank generation
and I can take it or leave it each time (Stalcup). Since once something is introduced, it cannot be taken
away, punk rock bands drew inspiration from those such as Iggy Pop and the Stooges. However,

Essay On The Impact Of 1968
THE IMPACT OF 1968
The world revolution of 1968 of course primarily concerned a series of major political issues: the
hegemony of the United States and its world policies, which had led it into the Vietnam war; the
relatively passive attitude of the Soviet Union, which the 1968 revolutionaries saw as collusion with
the United States; the inefficacy of the traditional Old Left movements in opposing the status quo. In
retrospect, 1968, the year of global revolt halfway between the end of World War II and the end of the
Cold War, looked like a failed revolution. Nonetheless, the impacts of 1968 formulated ever gradually
progressing definitions of today s world system.

The belief among the protestors that the Old Left was deluded up with the establishment and had
become an obstacle to the stimulus of social change led to the inception of the New Left. Moreover, its
improvisations formulated the upheavals to be existentialist in nature with an aim to solidify humanity.
Thus, arose the revolutionary movements focus on various social issues such as peace activism, anti
racism, feminism, environmentalism and so on. These issues were of a social trend rather than
political or economic one. They were not trying to reform the system. They wanted to dismantle the
corporate system they have concluded had failed them.
Some of these student groups became a major part of the New Left, a broad based political movement
that challenged existing forms of authority, while others embraced a counterculture that promoted
sexual liberation and unabashed drug use. Moreover, the escalation of protests intensified to be
inclusive of other movements who sought to seize the opportunity to broadcast their own interests.
These movements were met with anti activist out lashes from the Conservative side of the society

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Risk Protection
Each business is in charge of the wellbeing and security of the representatives while they are grinding
away. His essential obligation is to set up a protected workplace in order to avoid work environment
mishaps. In spite of taking fitting preventive measures, if any worker gets harmed, the harmed has
every one of the rights to sue the business making him legitimately at risk for the damage. In such
cases, the business needs to repay the workers for expenses of hospitalization, alongside the lawful
expenses. Since mischances are unavoidable at working environment, it is sensible with respect to the
business to buy protection that empowers him to meet the expenses of pay.

Financial help to representatives: This protection not just spares the business from bearing the pay
sum, additionally empowers workers to have money related help with times of need. Acquiring bosses

Tea Culture In China, Japan And Korea
Introduction
Tea is a common drink nowadays and is very popular in different countries and even countries in
Europe. However, every country has a different tea culture which has its origins.
The history of tea culture varies and every culture would like to promote a different spirit or attitude.
Besides, different tea culture use different types of tea leaves and utensils to represent itself.
China, Japan and Korea are neighbors geographically and they all have tea culture. In the following, it
is going to compare the tea culture of China, Japan and Korea in history, culture and utensils.
The history of tea and variety
Chinese Tea Ceremony was called Chadao and started from Tang Dynasty at 841 AD year. Tea is one
of the seven basic daily necessities, also is an indispensable thing for Chinese. Tea tree was first found
at Yunnan Kweichow Plateau in Southwest area of China. Tea in China was sweetish taste and was

drinking is very common in family gathering and guests greeting to show courtesy and respect
towards your relatives and friends. Using tea as greeting is a tradition passed from the past tea culture
and able to establish well commination while tea drinking.
In Japan, the tea culture promotes self examination to the people in Japan and now we would be able

Why Is Phonics Instruction An Integral Part Of The...
1. Explain what is meant by Explicit and Implicit phonics instruction. There are several approaches to
teach children to read. Explicit Phonic Instruction is build from part to whole; children first receive
instruction of the letters with associated sounds, and after they learn how to blend sounds into the
syllables and into the words. Implicit Phonics Instructions moves from the whole to the smallest parts:
first, students are analyzing words and looking for common phonemes in a group of words. After
comparison they assume which grapheme to write and which phoneme to read. Children are
identifying new words by beginning and ending letters, or by context clue.
2. Why is phonics instruction an integral part of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All these skills are very important to develop proficient decoding before children begin to master more
advanced skills such as, fluency, comprehension, vocabulary. And the phonic instruction gives
necessary foundations for reading success, but alone does not teach children to read. That is why it
must be a part of the balanced approach.
3. What is phonemic awareness? According to D Angiulli (2004), phonemic awareness is the
knowledge that words are made up of a combination of individual sounds and being able to hear,
recognize, and manipulate sounds. Phonemic awareness is very important for reading success.
Children who have difficulties with distinguishing and manipulating sounds usually have difficulties
in reading and spelling, and recognizing the link between print and sound. Phonemic awareness
include different skills, such as:
the ability to isolate and distinguish individual sounds
the ability to identify phonemes
the ability to classify similar sounds and recognize phonemic patterns (rhyming words, similarities
and differences in a group of words(
the ability to segment phonemes in a word
the ability to blend sounds together
the ability to delete phonemes
the ability to manipulate phonemes

Big Moments
In life there will be good and bad moments, but those moments are what shapes us. Not only does it
shape up, but when we grow old you feel like your life has been good. When you are young you can
steer away from conversation. No one is permanent on this earth, so make as many memories as
possible. Memories don t necessarily have to relate to big moments. They can be small moments.
I will never forget the time, over spring break of 2017 my family and i had gone to the wineries. I was
so focused on my phone, but something told me to just look up and i did. In that moment of looking
around i realized i had so many generations at one table. The interactions between the different
generations. The love that was being spread, it made me wonder how much i have been missing out
on. Once you get the luxury of a phone and social media, you can become addicted to it. They may
think it was just a birthday, but it was memories and bonds that were being created. This is a day i will
never forget. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

different age groups stay with their age groups. As someone who is considered part of the technology
era, it feels as if there is a lot of pressure and stereotypes of being glued to there phone. You may feel
that i m directing this at the younger generation, but i m not. This is focused on everyone who doesn t

The Stability of an interconnected power systemSmall...
The stability of an interconnected power system is the ability of the system to return to its normal or
stable condition after having been subjected to some form of disturbance. With the interconnected
systems continually increasing in size and extending over whole geographical regions, it is becoming
increasingly more difficult to maintain synchronism between various parts of the power system. This
paper work presents an advanced adaptive Particle swarm optimization technique to optimize the SVC
controller parameters for enhancement of the steady state stability overcoming the premature
convergence stagnation problems as in basic PSO algorithm Particle swarm optimization with
shrinkage factor inertia weight approach (PSO SFIWA). In this paper SMIB system along with PID
damped SVC controller is considered for study. The generator speed deviation is used as an auxiliary
signal to SVC, to generate the desired damping. This controller improves the dynamic performance of
power system by reducing the steady state error. The controller parameters are optimized using basic
PSO, PSO SFIWAAdvanced Adaptive PSO. Computational results show that Advanced Adaptive
based SVC controller is able to find better quality solution as compare to conventional PSO PSO
SFIWA Techniques.

The European Union And Nato Have Grand Strategies
A profusion of scholarly works and articles lament the fact that the European Union does not develop
a grand strategy and militate to confer an enhanced military dimension on the EU. These views imply
that the European Union has no grand strategy or has an inadequate one. However widespread, these
conclusions do not fit with all existing conceptions regarding grand strategy. In the meantime and
interestingly enough, people seem more inclined to accept that NATO has a grand strategy. This
observation and its potential implication for the international order inspired and initiated this study.
They lead to the two following questions that guided the analysis. Do the European Union and NATO
have grand strategies? If yes, what are these grand strategies and what are their possible impacts on
the international order? Answering these questions required, first, to understand grand strategy. In
chapter 1, the study began by scrutinizing the concept of grand strategy, which has historically been
intimately intertwined with the concept of strategy. Rigorous investigations into the nature and history
of strategy combined with the application of different lenses to the canon of work of recognized
authorities in the field of strategy supported the analysis. The etymological, historical, and
epistemological lenses applied to strategy provided the basis to assess the dominant schools of
thought, understand the contemporary developments, and ultimately comprehend grand strategy. This

The Importance Of Stakeholders In The Classroom Environment
Bron and Veugelers (2014) elucidate a classroom environment encompasses a vast and diverse student
body that should be reflected in the utilized curriculum which will continually adapt to the ever
changing elements and culture surrounding it. Important to realize, is that there is a very considerable
group of stakeholders responsible for the advocacy of the curriculum map, those who are composed of
neighborhood residents, youth involved in the justice system, unemployed, regulation enforcement
agencies, contractors and developers, employers, ordinary community members, and government
officials (Rabinowitz, 2017). Accordingly, whether stakeholders are directly or indirectly involved
with the students, their input ensures successful outcomes in achievement for those focuses within the
learning arena. Stakeholders Purpose To explain, Hanover Research (2016) affirms the stakeholder s
role in curriculum mapping is vital, due to invested interest of processes and results, as well as the
ability to enhance the review s effectiveness and the many persons who have an expertise through
their individual knowledge and skills. This vested interest is to help ensure that appropriateness is
upheld in the reviews regarding questions, designs, or methodology. Markedly, Bron and Veugelers
(2014) state that by involving the students in the curriculum process, their input will assist and aid in
reducing the gap between how student live and learn, and bring more relevance to the learning

Motherhood Vs Motherhood
It seems being a women in today s society means we have one path eventually: motherhood. However
motherhood means something different depending on what your social status is, or whether you are
white or black. Mothers are expected to take care of their children, and this type of unpaid labor seems
to fall mostly on women, rather than men. I remember growing up, I had to take care of my younger
brother (get him after school, and feed him when we got home). My parents were always working and
would get home a couple of hours after we were done with school. However I always remember my
mom checking up on us to make sure we got home ok, we ate, etc. I hardly remember my dad ever
doing that. Now as an adult, I ask myself why would my dad would not take even some of these
responsibility and also make sure we got home safe. Taking care of the children seems to only rely in
the women rather than the men. Even though my mom would have a job, just the same as him, my
mom would have to rush home before my dad would so she could have a meal prepared for him. She
would make me help her in the kitchen, as I needed to learn how to cook . These are some of the
examples how we as women, learn through our parents that regardless of having a job, just the same
as men, we are expected to take care of the home, as well as the children. Angela Y. Davis stated black
women have always worked outside their homes than have their white sisters, therefore their

Summary Of A Very Lucky Daughter By Skrzynecki
How has your understanding of belong been shaped by your study of Skrzynecki s poem and the
related text of your choosing?
Our sense of belonging is not only sculpted by our own experiences through what we encounter, but
also the experiences of others. By reading and analyzing the authentic experiences Peter Skrzynecki
and Sharon Liao wrote about I was able to refine my perception and collective knowledge of
belonging and what it entails.
My study of Migrant Hostels , Feliks Skrzynecki and A Very Lucky Daughter the two composers have
brought my focus on a range of different circumstances revolving around the ideas of belonging in the
respective hearts of both first and second generation migrants, capturing the occurrences they
encounter with assimilating into a new land and culture as well as the disturbance this assimilation
creates within the relationships of families and outsiders.

Applying Different Analytical Approaches For Films Dog...
Applying different analytical approaches to films
Dog soldiers
Critical approaches:
The sound used in dog soldiers was very dramatic and is non diegetic. The editing was fast paced and
added dramatic tension to the setting of the film; the setting was quite dark throughout the film and as
it was set in an isolated house in a forest this also helped to add to the dramatic effect. In terms of
cinematography, there was a large amount of point of view shots and certain points of the film were in
black and white. Accelerated hot reverse shot shows energy of conversation and can see the characters
emotion and reactions. Zoom into window towards woman, slow motion fire chasing the car and
explosion. Camerawork medium shots, close ups, handheld camera views, over the shoulder and pan
of men around the table. The technical elements identified to help find out what the genre of the film
would be, the fact that it includes a lot of violence, blood and intense scenes would lead most
audiences to believe it was a thriller or horror type film. Another convention is that is evident in dog
soldiers is fantasy; this is because it includes werewolves, who are not proven to be real, there are also
some elements of comedy.
Fire light gave a very gloomy/dangerous environment, around Ryan soldiers appeared tired/sweaty

Cause And Effects Of The French Revolution Essay
Have you ever heard that the Royal blood is blue? Looking at the French Revolution, the royal blood
wasn t blue, but jaundiced shade of red and riddled with broken chromosomes. The French Revolution
was a period of economical and social events that led to a crisis, which lasted from 1789 until 1799
due to the inefficiency of the French government and rebellion against the government too. The
dissatisfaction of people against the Monarch and the debt of the government were specifically two of
the main causes that led to the French Revolution.

Mortality rate decreased which led to the population of France to be the highest in all Europe,
following the massive governments debt, came the social crisis. France was at height of European

rise of the middle class meant that poverty increased too, leaving an unbalanced social structure of
society were people were divided into three different estates (First estate, Second estate, Third estate)
which ranked from high church members, bourgeoisie merchants to peasants. Peasants could barley

the nobles. The inequality of the different estates was the cause of anger from people. People from the
Third estate had to pay extremely high taxes, and people from the First estate were exempted from
paying these taxes. You may think that by gaining money you could move up estates. It was very rare
for people to move up the ladder from estate to estate now that there was inequality in power. Your

Number 10 Research Paper
Old wives tales are a fun way for parents to teach their kids important lessons. However, some wives
tales are so realistic that many people start believing they are scientifically true. Well, we re coming to

Your Knuckles Will Lead to Arthritis. Despite what your grandparents may have told you, no,
cracking your knuckles will not lead to arthritis. One study followed people who repeatedly cracked

deoxygenated blood have different colorations, but deoxygenated blood is not blue like many people
think. The blood is actually a deep crimson color, and the idea that it s blue probably originated from
the appearance of blue veins, which are so colored because of your skin, not your blood. Number Six:
Sugar Makes You Hyper. One of the most insidious old wives tales is that sugar will make kids hyper.
In reality, sugar will actually make children sleepy. The hyperactivity parents observe after children
eat candy is likely a result of the happiness kids experience from getting candy. Number Five: Severe
Pruning Is a Bad Thing. Has your mom ever told you not to stay in the tub too long or you ll turn into

The Importance Of A Comfort Zone As A Resident Assistant...
Introduction
A comfort zone is a relaxing safe space in which people are familiar with because it causes no anxiety
or stress. In life, each of us will be in uncomfortable situations that are outside of our comfort zone.
However, we have to be become accustomed in environments that are normally perceived as
uncomfortable to experience what others may have to deal with on a daily basis. Additionally, this
applies to social workers. We may deal with clients or different situations that are out of our comfort
zone. However, we must overcome it to be more aware, as well as completing the job to the best of
our abilities. For instance, a strongly devoted Baptist African American male may be uncomfortable
attending a LGBT Pride parade due to his beliefs. Nonetheless, this experience may change his
perspective on individuals from the LGBT community and cause him to not be as biased or
judgmental. This paper will entail my personal experience of being outside of my comfort zone as a
Resident Assistant for the University of Texas at Arlington.
As a Resident Assistant, my job is to create a fun, on campus living experience for residents in a co ed
residence hall while hosting academic, life engaging, social, and/or inclusive programs for them to

Case Study Of Google s Approach To New Challenges
I have known Michelle since 2008, during which time we have collaborated on a variety of projects
related to the oil and natural gas sector in Trinidad and Tobago, Nigeria and Ghana. An early initiative
typifies the nature of Michelle s approach to new challenges, which approach flowed through the
various interventions we had with a range of government and civil society stakeholders in developing
countries. Michelle has been able to participate in the work of ACES as a resource person because of
her ability to aggregate and extract the benefit of a mix of eclectic skills, curiosity and adventurism.

She is more advanced than her peers, with many of whom I have interacted throughout my 38 years in
the oil and gas and related industries. She is a self starter, who identifies and pursues new ventures in
an underserved market. She has proper knowledge of how to build networks and maintain

Two things separate her from many of her generation: first is that she doesn t simply regurgitate what
was taught in school, rather, she is thoughtful in how she analyses the situation and applies her

Social psychologist Kurt Lewin, devised a theory to explain the internal conflicts that humans
experience every day. Conflict is an unavoidable part of our daily lives. As adults we ve hopefully
learned to deal with conflict better than we did as children. Students have very little understanding of
how to deal with conflict whether it s between themselves and others or just within themselves.
Helping them realize that their conflicts are shared by everyone else can lessen the stress caused by
these conflicts.
There are 3 major types of conflicts that all of us confront. These are internal conflicts. They are
known as:
Approach Avoidance Conflict
Avoidance Avoidance Conflict
Approach Approach Conflict
(A fourth type of conflict is called Double Approach Avoidance. This occurs when there are two
choices both of which have attractive and unattractive aspects.)
What makes these conflicts a problem, in addition to not being able to have everything you want, is
that they can be very stressful, especially for children. It s

The Punishment And Capital Punishment Essay
In the horizon, there are always heightened debates over issues with capital punishment in today
judicial system. Today thirty three states, along with the United Stated Government and U.S. military,
have the power to legally take away someone s life. Though it is very much illegal to take someone
life within society, our state and federal government s do the very same thing we are prohibited from
doing. The first section in this paper, will be discussing the reason on why our governments allow
capital punishment, relating to the deterrence of crimes such as murder. The deterrence of murder and
capital punishment seem to only work if you over exercise capital punishment. Such evidence
provided will show the difference in states that utilize capital punishment more than other states that
have not abolished the deterrence method. The second section will be discussing the retribution
relating to capital punishment. It also covers unanswered questions that relate to utilizing methods of
execution on innocent people. The last section covers the Eighth Amendment violation relating to
cruel and unusual punishment. It also discusses some of the botched executions that have been
conducted over the years.

The Great Depression was not just a little event in history, hence the word great , but a major
economical setback that would change Canada, and the world, forever. The word great may not mean
the same thing it does now; an example of this is the Great War. These events were not good or
accomplishing in any way, quite the opposite, but in those times it most likely meant big . What made
it big are many factors, both in the 20 s and 30 s, which can be categorized into three main points:
economics, politics and society. With all these events, compressed into ten years, this period of
economic hardship of the 1930 s truly deserves the title the Great Depression . What started these

Although, this new proposition was too late and Bennett lost the 1935 election to King, the Supreme
Court took the most important points and unconstitutionally made it happen. When King was put back

He managed to please the people enough to avoid the insults that Bennett endured. With all these
politics and attempts at fixing Canada, these politicians made a name for themselves among the events

The Risks And Rewardss Of Auto Racing
Driving cars is a common activity that many people have experienced before, be it as the driver or as a

their cars to the limit. Those who do so take part in the activity called auto racing . Auto Racing is a
popular and thrilling activity, which involves cars racing in competition. This activity is a thrill

track and into a section of the crowd (Times of Malta, 2015). The danger is not restricted to those who
practice auto racing as a legal hobby, but those who do it illegally on the streets. Street racing is an
illegal and unsanctioned activity that can be spontaneous or well coordinated, often with modified cars
that race on public streets. The Los Angeles (LA) traffic police issued hundreds of citations and made
scores of arrests in 2014 regarding illegal street racing (Stevens, Shyong, Meija, 2016). Even with

such street races despite the obvious physical danger and risks of getting into trouble with the law?

Lynching In African American History
Losing power can take a toll on the mentality of men. American history proves this theory frequently
over time. It s most prominent during the time of reconstruction in the form of lynching. Lynching is
termed as a killing organized and performed by a group or mob of people. Some justify it as different
from murder and get away from it. That is complete ideocracy. Lynching is just a subcategory or
another form of murder but not a different crime in itself in my opinion. It was a combination of
sadism and racism that white used to subjugate African Americans because they were afraid to be
equal. For many years, Americans were at the top of the social caste system and something was
coming to ruin the system that has worked to their benefit and it was called African American
progression. African Americans were making a life for themselves and the white man was not having
it. Out of fear, Americans, usually those that felt like they were close to equal to negro status and less
educated, started to use lynching as a way to instill fear into the heart of the Black community. This
did not mean that white Americans wouldn t participate in these celebrations. Together Americans
lynched countless black people and nigger lovers by burning, castrating, and dismembering ... Show

Character Analysis Of Bonnie And Clyde
Everyone has heard of the notorious robbers Bonnie and Clyde. Most people know the general story of
what happened from the movie produced about them, but few really understand the morals behind the
couple. Just like with most celebrities, their story has been distorted to for a more entertaining
purpose; movies. We as humans, tend to glorify celebrities, even if they were bank robbers and killers.
A major example of how we glorify celebrities can be seen by looking at historical figures Bonnie and
Clyde Barrow.
In the movie, Bonnie and Clyde are seen as the protagonists of the movie. The way the directors set up
the script makes you fall in love with the characters. It s one way to get you to feel emotion at the end
when, spoiler alert, they are killed. The movie is set up in a way to get you to sympathize with the
characters. If you knew the real story, you might not feel so sympathetic. Barrow was suspected of
numerous killings and was wanted for murder, robbery, and state charges of kidnapping ( Bonnie and
Clyde 1). They were well known for their robberies and murders. They were believed to have
committed 13 murders within their four year spree; most of whom were law enforcers.
At the time they were killed in 1934, they were believed to have committed 13 murders and several
robberies and burglaries. Barrow, for example, was suspected of murdering two police officers at
Joplin, Missouri and kidnapping a man and a woman in rural Louisiana. He released them near

Boxing Should Not be Banned Essay
Boxing Should Not be Banned In recent years, there have been many campaigns to try and have
boxing banned. Those in favour of banning boxing argue that it is dangerous, potentially life
threatening and generally unsafe. It can also be argued that it is immoral to give someone money for
fighting with someone else. Those who are against boxing being banned argue that it is no more
dangerous than other sports. In this essay, I will critically examine each of these arguments and

All boxers obviously believe that the benefits of the ancient sport outweigh its negative side. This is
shown in their enthusiasm to take potentially high risks in order to gain the rewards of winning. Like
all sports, there is an element of danger involved however we have the freedom to decide whether or
not to take part in it.
One of the main arguments for boxing being banned is that serious medical injury can result from
boxing due to continuous blows to the head. In boxing when the head is knocked sideways, the brain
swirls in the skull, its layers shearing and sliding off one another, tearing vital nerve fibres . Statistics
show that 15 20% of boxers ending a professional career develop the punch drunk syndrome . This
syndrome consists of the brain weakening, loss of memory, slowed speech and difficulty in walking.
Also boxing can effect the time of death. A professional boxer dies around 10 15 years earlier than the
average life expectancy. People argue that a sport, which can result in players suffering from brain
damage and cerebral ischemia ( a disruption of blood supply to an area of the brain ) should be banned
straight away because of the life threatening risks involved
However, Dr Nigel Warburton, a lecturer in philosophy for the Open University, claims that the

Evidence Based Practice ( Ebp ) Process ( Cowell ) Essay
Literature reviews provide adequate supporting evidence for the evidence based practice (EBP)
process (Cowell, 2016). By using the information obtained from the literature review, that supports the
topic, one can evaluate a situation and arrive at the problem that needs a solution. Therefore, an
appropriate technique is necessary when searching for the right literature and evidence (Cowell,
2016). Search Method The literature search helps to identify and retrieve studies to find out
information about a topic, detect the need for further study and develop new guidelines (Auston,
Cahn, Selden, 2016). The resources that could provide the evidence are available in many databases.
The databases used for the literature support for the problem and the proposed solution of this EBP

right articles from the whole group, I used the criteria to find the information that supported the topic.
Then, included those in the EBP project and excluded the remaining ones. For example, I have
included those articles that were about the effects of hyperglycemia of diabetic patients in the
development of SSI in the project and rejected the rest. From about 75 articles obtained from the

The Political Engagement Of Burma
As Burma seeks to distance itself from China, despite Burma s failed engagement on the energy front,
India may very well be destined to be the major beneficiary. Burma has been grateful that India has
focused on education, provision of technology and services, and infrastructure just as much as it has
focused on energy (Maini, 2014). With all things considered, China virtually has monopoly over
Burma s offshore gas fields. Its economic and political engagement in Burma is greater than any other

Contrary to popular belief, the tribes are weary of Burma becoming a democracy too soon. Suu Kyi is
little more than a symbol of the wrong issue democracy first! Ethnic rights and the balance of ethnic
power are preconditions for democracy (Kaplan, 2011). The granddaughter of famous military general
Aung San, Aung San Suu Kyi, has led Burma s National League of Democracy. India has a strong
relationship with Suu Kyi, as India supported Burma s democracy leader prior to changing its policy
to engagement with the regime. Suu Kyi studied in India, won the Nehru Award for International
Peace in 1982, and her family has strong ties to Jawaharlal Nehru (Myint U, 2011). Although Suu Kyi
and the tribes are against the same military, their visions for the order are different by which a
transition to a civilian government must to occur. The major concern of the tribes is their rights
through a federation that grants them self rule. Suu Kyi specifically desires elections, with less regard
for the distinctive approach that will be necessary in order to satisfy the tribes. India and Suu Kyi have
distanced from each other, creating an opportunity for India to advocate for the tribes. The tribes may

Ephemeral Repertoire Of Embodied Knowledge
What Connerton calls incorporating practices and Taylor calls the repertoire affirms the need to
prioritize unstable pieces of evidence, traditionally ignored or skeptically criticized in histories of
Williams which favor normative assessment. Taylor describes that the rift, I submit does not lie
between the written and spoken word, but between the archive of supposedly enduring materials (i.e.,
texts, documents, buildings, bones) and the so called ephemeral repertoire of embodied
practice/knowledge (i.e., spoken language, dance, sports, ritual). For this study, Taylor s point is well
taken as a means of dismembering critical hegemony. Taylor s research highlights the archive as a site
of several myths concerning how authoritarian ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This process provides a framework to value anti normative, embodied memories to unsettle the
dominance of normative interpretations of Williams s texts resulting from canonization. When
considering Eddie Dowling s production of Glass Menagerie, an emphasis on memory helps escape
the bias towards realism during the 1940s. During this period, an assumed realism connected with
Clifford Odets, Lillian Hellman, and Eugene O Neill s realistic plays were the standard for
commercially viable Broadway audiences. From the beginning, critics sought to reframe Menagerie to
fit within the constraints of other commercial dramas of the period such as Lillian Hellman s The
Little Foxes and William Saroyan s Time of Your Life. Incorporated memories drawn from the
theatrical practitioners contradict the bias toward realism. None of them read Menagerie as a realistic
play. The connection between Menagerie and an assumed realism requires rereading the history that
equates the immense popularity of Williams s anti normative text with the commercial success which
affirms realism as the form that will appeal most to audience members. An understanding that
Menagerie can be interpreted in multiple ways is easily demonstrated by the plethora of books which
set out to do just that. Normative inscription makes

Mary Shelley s Frankenstein is a novel which forces the reader to question whether it is a simple
horror story or whether it is a gothic fairytale of many depths. Frankenstein is considered by many
critics as the first modern horror story ever written, and it opened a whole new world of ideas for
novels and has inspired many similar works since its publication in 1818. As we see by the prelude,

For many readers, Frankenstein is much more than a simple horror story, it is a story about family,
abandonment, the consequences of the quest for knowledge, and many other themes which influence
the path of the story. One of the most notable themes within the novel is the idea of good versus evil.
This theme adds extreme depth to the text, as the reader is left to decide which character is good and
which is evil. Shelley s use of intertextuality in the novel emphasises her point, especially with the
inclusion of the strong influence that Milton s Paradise Lost has on the monster. I am thy creature: I
ought to be thy Adam, but I am rather the fallen angel, whom thou drivest from joy for no misdeed.
From the moment he is created, we, like the monster question whether he is Adam, or the fallen angel,
and therefore wonder whether it is he or Victor which is the creature of evil. The tale of Frankenstein
leads the reader into the logic of creation and of the mind, and through her thoughts on good versus
evil; Shelley also forces the reader to look even further beyond the horror of the novel to the idea of
the doppelganger effect. In the National Theatre s production of the novel, the two main characters
switched the roles of Victor and the monster, emphasizing the point that both characters could be in

The American Red Cross Disaster Services Team
Introduction Throughout the semester, I have been able to volunteer for the American Red Cross
Disaster Services Team. This has been one of the most beneficial volunteer opportunities that I have
ever accomplished. As an American Red Cross of Georgia Major Gift Officer, this volunteer
experience allowed me to gain knowledge in a department that serves as the backbone of the
American Red Cross. As a nonprofit fundraiser, it is difficult to truly see the mission that your team

and before this volunteer experience I had never even been on a Red Cross disaster response call.
Throughout the duration of the semester, I was able to gain true insight into the core of the
organization and mission. This opportunity allowed me to not only enhance my career at the American

Red Cross Mission and History The American Red Cross exists to provide compassionate care to

Gladrioters And Roman Gladiators
Response Paper #3 Gladiators vs. Charioteers Roman charioteers and Roman gladiators were at the
pinnacle of the entertainment industry during ancient Roman times. They both had large followings,
were keys to political power, and were the reasons for architectural masterpieces. Charioteers and
gladiators, however, were quite different in many ways. They had differences in backgrounds, in risks
of their profession, in their professional careers, and in the various things they can stand for and
represent. Gladiators and Charioteers in Ancient Rome are brought up and trained in different ways.
The gladiators, for example, could either be prisoners of war, criminals, or free men . However, The
taint of becoming a gladiator essentially took away one s free status, even from those who entered the
profession voluntarily. One could say that all gladiators were slaves (Futrell 125). Being as everyone
is essentially a slave, free men becoming gladiators would have to sign an agreement giving away
their rights to choose. This wasn t something that you would see happen in the realm of chariot racing.
Although, both were still considered infamis essentially meaning they did not enjoy the rights of
citizens. The background in training was also quite different for these two. A gladiator would go to a
ludi ran by lunista who were in charge of acquisition and training of the gladiators. They would then
be assigned a doctor to go with the style they are to be trained in. This is different from the way
charioteers were brought up. Often time they would be trained from adolescents specifically for
chariot racing. These riders as well as their horses would be controlled by four different factions who
were responsible for the training, negotiating, and maintenance of the individual riders. The large
difference here coming in the early up bringing of the charioteers as well as the factions versus the
ludi. The risk in these two professions also varied greatly. Both involved a lot of risk, but it came in
different ways. For a gladiator everytime they suited up for the arena they had someone coming after

Artemis Greek Goddess
While playing the Virtual Woodland Game Nara became known as Artemis, goddess of the hunt and
wood. During her time on the game she learned how to hide from people very well, also at following
someone without being spotted. While the days progressed Artemis soon became considered a myth or
legend to get more players to join the game.
One day while Artemis was exploring a new area of the forest and found a temple, a small questing
group also spotted her and watched in amazement as she gracefully moved through the forest. When
she finally spotted them, she panicked and ran from them to the center of the forest. Unfortunately she
forgot to cover her tracks and so the group was able to follow her trail all the way to a small cabin

Artemis said, Well, what are waiting for hop to it. and nudged them towards the chest.
Tatsu, Mingan, and 98 then walked cautiously towards the chest and slowly lifted the lid. When
opened the two statues came to life and began attacking the three players. They tried to battle by
themselves. however they were no match for the two chimeras. When Tatsu and Mingan were knocked
out and 98 began to pass out he witnessed Artemis stepping forward and pulling out a strange looking
flute. He continued watching in wonder as he witnessed the creatures cringe in fear when they saw the
flute. Artemis started to play just as the chimeras tried to run away in terror only to hear the haunting
melody from emanating from the flute that caused them to face each other and start fighting until they
were reduced to a pile of rubble.
She then turned to 98 and warned, If you tell anyone the truth of how I defeated them, I will make
your life in this game so miserable that you won t want to ever play this game again.
98 nodded and asked, Can you please heal us or get us to a healer in the nearest

American And Mexican American Culture
Mexican American
Being a Latina born in America and growing up here, I was taught celebrating American culture like,
Memorial, independence and Labor Day, with the explosion of bright colorful fireworks, the smell of
fire when turning on the grill and the best part; no school! Also celebrating Christmas and new year s
the American way, going to church, eating, and opening presents on Christmas day. It wasn t until 4
years ago I went to Mexico and realized there s more to my own rooted culture and how lucky I am to
have both the American and Mexican culture in my life realizing the generation of Mexican
Americans are forming their own culture with both lifestyles. One of the holidays I celebrated in
Mexico was the day of the dead, or as called in Spanish El Dia de Los Muertos , which could be
considered as Halloween in the America. It is first not celebrated only one day which is October 31st
on Halloween. It is celebrated October 31st through November 1st, there is no running towards the
neighborhood and ringing doorbells for candy, not even dressing up as a princess or your favorite
super hero. Four years ago, I was 13, you could say I was disappointed I didn t get to dress up. I was
in confusion and upset that they were missing out on dressing up and getting free candy. The next day
my mom told me I would be able to dress up, but not in a costume, in a Mexican traditional dress with
bright colors, my hair in a crowned braid and my face painted as a skull. I was

Ralph Waldo Emerson s Definition Of Success
S for Success
To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded (____) .
This quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson captures his paradigm of success. People strive to achieve
success and create goals to obtain it; however, a single minded interpretation of success leads to
missing out on opportunities. The presence of challenges provides the opportunity for success and
success comes with the determination to overcome the challenges.
Early in the fifteenth century, the word success first appeared. Developing from Latin word successus
, it was first defined as the fortune (good or bad) befalling anyone in a particular situation . In the mid
1600 s, the definition of success a prosperous achievement of something attempted was altered and
fits the current use of the word. Appearing in the Oxford English Dictionary in 1978, the latest entry
of the definition of success is defined as an instance of an achievement ( Success ). The broadness of
the term achievement ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jordan, known for his impressive basketball career, explains that success does not come without
failure. As a sophomore in high school, Jordan was cut from the varsity basketball team and his
disappointment drove him to working tirelessly to become a better player. His relentless drive caused
him to break numerous collegiate records and become one of the most decorated athletes in history (
Michael Jordan Biography ). His athletic career, from being cut from his varsity team to becoming one

Essay On My Dream Of My Life
From Faulkner to Line December 23rd, 2015 was the day I dreamed of my whole life. My boyfriend,
Austin, was in town for Christmas from Fort Riley where he was stationed with the army. After Austin
picked me up from work we had to rush home to eat dinner and change because we were going to take
Christmas photos. I had no idea where we were taking the photos at, Austin picked out the place. He
was going to wear his uniform for the photos, but he realized he forgot his tan under shirt back in
Kansas. I was upset because I really wanted him to wear his uniform for some of our photos. I finished
getting ready and we rushed to the closest and only military apparel store hoping they would have a
shirt in his size. They didn t have a short sleeve shirt in his size but thankfully they had a long sleeve
tan shirt that fit him. We arrived at the destination for the photos and I fell in love. It was a beautiful
castle from the 1800s. I have lived right down the road from this castle my whole life and never knew
it existed. When we first arrived the guy that owned it took us on a tour, to pick out the best place I
wanted the photos taken. I saw this beautiful Christmas tree and I fell in love with it. I told Austin that
s where I wanted the photos taken. We were taking photos just goofing off and Austin was shaking and
looked like he was about to cry then suddenly Austin

  • 2. Touch Reaction Times Visual, Auditory and Touch Reaction Times Nick Marshall, Jack Wilson, Angus Newman: 8F 4 /6/2018 Introduction: The purpose of this investigation is to examine the differences in reaction times when using different stimuli. This investigation relates to the nervous and brain systems in the human body. When your senses pick up clues from the outside world it takes a small amount of time for you to recognize the signal and respond. (Yuhas, 2018) Reaction time is the measure of speed from which your brain recognises a stimulus, to the reaction, possibly movement. The process of reacting is carried out by many neurons as well as numerous systems and circuits in the brain. (Yuhas, 2018). There ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Previous studies produced results that show that touch is the fastest, then auditory and finally visual with the averagely slowest reaction time. This data suggests that visual stimuli cause the fastest reaction, followed by auditory, and finally touch. The average in time for visual stimuli was 0.170 seconds. Previous results have evidenced that visual stimulus is the slowest, with an average time of 0.25 seconds. This experiment contradicts these results. The second fastest reaction time was caused by an auditory stimulus. This produced an average reading of 0.176 seconds. This is similar to previous results. However, there is a small discrepancy of 0.006 seconds between the previous results and the results of this test. Finally, touch stimulus was the slowest in this experiment. This contradicts previous results. In other tests the touch stimulus was the fastest at 0.15 seconds, whereas in this experiment it was the slowest: 0.193 seconds. When gravity pulled the rulers to the mass of the earth, it took time for the subject to recognise the movement and to react to it. These results contradict previous experiments. The brain signals were processed on average more slowly than in previous experiments. However, this experiment could have been unfair and biased. When the auditory and touch tests were carried out, there was most likely a small amount of time between the call or touch and the ruler being dropped. Also, test subjects were changed throughout the experiment. This would have caused a discrepancy in the results, because different subjects may have had different personal reaction times due to several factors. Also, the age could have had an effect. In this experiment we used 13 year old test subjects. It is unknown of the age of the previous experiments. This experiment could have been improved by conducting more tests over a range of people to calculate a more global and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay about Morality in Richard III by William Shakespeare Morality in Richard III by William Shakespeare In Richard III, Shakespeare invites us on moral holiday. The early part of the play draws its readers to identify with Richard and thereby to participate in a fantasy of total control of self and domination of others. We begin to be pulled into the fantasy in the play s opening speech, where Richard presents himself as an enterprising, self made villain and offers an elaborate justification for this self he renovation. In the first scene of the play, Richard announces in a narration, his plan to become king. Richard is truly a Machiavel. A Machiavel is one who views politics as amoral and that any means, however unscrupulous, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A villain must also have scapegoats to use if he is discovered or if he is in a dangerous situation . Richard devised a brutal stratagem to ascend the English throne. Brilliantly, he executed his plan. Heartlessly, he executed family, friends, and subjects. Richard did indeed display these characteristics and, therefore, fulfilled his goal to ascend the throne. One of many Richard s brilliant schemes was to increase public support for his own claim to the crown. Richard, aided by Buckingham, enacts shows of devotion, kindness, religiousness and other virtues, which recommend him to the citizenry and especially to the Lord Mayor and aldermen of London. This done, he finally wins the mayor and the alderman over and receives the offer to the supreme seat, the throne majestically, the scepter office of his ancestors themselves, the lineal glory of his royal house . After some false persuasion by the Duke of Buckingham, Richard finally accepts the golden yoke of sovereignty. Some Critics feel that not all of Richard s victims were innocent, they were hypocritical and were trying to use Richard, but that is another topic. Richard is, simply, too clever to be outwitted. As a king, Richard did not succeed. He ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Longman), Immoral is defined as morally wrong, and not acceptable by society. Pretty Woman and Breakfast at Tiffany s are two very immoral movie pictures. Although, they have a lot of differences; however, they are similar in three specific ways: their attraction, their poverty, and their transformation One important similarity between Pretty Woman and Breakfast at Tiffany s is their attraction. • 5. Spartacus Film Analysis Spartacus, 1960, is a film directed by Stanley Kubrick based on the Novel Spartacus by Howard Fast. The film follows the life of a slave named Spartacus who fought for his own freedom which led to the Third Servile War. The Third Servile War, also named the War of Spartacus, was slave insurrections against the Roman Republic. Although Spartacus s main enemy is all of Rome and its culture, like most heroes portrayed in film, Spartacus s main antagonist is a Roman senator Marcus Licinius Crassus, whose ultimate goal is to become dictator of Rome. However, does the film Spartacus follow closely to historical facts, or is it another film dramatized to entertain the public as Hollywood does? Hollywood dramatizing historical events in history is not necessarily considered a bad thing. But how far will Hollywood go to dramatize historical events in order to entertain the public? With the addition of Hollywood flair, it removes the impact that film had on Spartacus according to historical accuracy. Robert Rosenstone, a professor of California Institute of Technology, has written many different genres from history, fiction, poetry, etc., has said, historical film has been making its impact upon us for many years now, and its time that we began to take it seriously. It is a service based company that provides its expertise to the Department of Defense and the Federal Government as well as other smaller organizations. Some reasons to expand remote work includes; saving time, saving money, and reducing resources usage. Employees will have a better work/life balance, have improved productivity, and have the flexibility to schedule work around personal needs. These employee improvements will lead to less stress, better creativity, and higher performance, and better job satisfaction. Explicit Phonic Instruction is build from part to whole; children first receive instruction of the letters with associated sounds, and after they learn how to blend sounds into the syllables and into the words. Implicit Phonics Instructions moves from the whole to the smallest parts: first, students are analyzing words and looking for common phonemes in a group of words. The stability of an interconnected power system is the ability of the system to return to its normal or stable condition after having been subjected to some form of disturbance. With the interconnected systems continually increasing in size and extending over whole geographical regions, it is becoming increasingly more difficult to maintain synchronism between various parts of the power system. This paper work presents an advanced adaptive Particle swarm optimization technique to optimize the SVC controller parameters for enhancement of the steady state stability overcoming the premature convergence stagnation problems as in basic PSO algorithm Particle swarm optimization with shrinkage factor inertia weight approach (PSO SFIWA). In this paper SMIB system along with PID damped SVC controller is considered for study. The generator speed deviation is used as an auxiliary signal to SVC, to generate the desired damping. • 16. The European Union And Nato Have Grand Strategies A profusion of scholarly works and articles lament the fact that the European Union does not develop a grand strategy and militate to confer an enhanced military dimension on the EU. These views imply that the European Union has no grand strategy or has an inadequate one. However widespread, these conclusions do not fit with all existing conceptions regarding grand strategy. In the meantime and interestingly enough, people seem more inclined to accept that NATO has a grand strategy. This observation and its potential implication for the international order inspired and initiated this study. They lead to the two following questions that guided the analysis. Do the European Union and NATO have grand strategies? If yes, what are these grand strategies and what are their possible impacts on the international order? Answering these questions required, first, to understand grand strategy. In chapter 1, the study began by scrutinizing the concept of grand strategy, which has historically been intimately intertwined with the concept of strategy. Rigorous investigations into the nature and history of strategy combined with the application of different lenses to the canon of work of recognized authorities in the field of strategy supported the analysis. The etymological, historical, and epistemological lenses applied to strategy provided the basis to assess the dominant schools of thought, understand the contemporary developments, and ultimately comprehend grand strategy. The Importance Of Stakeholders In The Classroom Environment Bron and Veugelers (2014) elucidate a classroom environment encompasses a vast and diverse student body that should be reflected in the utilized curriculum which will continually adapt to the ever changing elements and culture surrounding it. Important to realize, is that there is a very considerable group of stakeholders responsible for the advocacy of the curriculum map, those who are composed of neighborhood residents, youth involved in the justice system, unemployed, regulation enforcement agencies, contractors and developers, employers, ordinary community members, and government officials (Rabinowitz, 2017). Stakeholders Purpose To explain, Hanover Research (2016) affirms the stakeholder s role in curriculum mapping is vital, due to invested interest of processes and results, as well as the ability to enhance the review s effectiveness and the many persons who have an expertise through their individual knowledge and skills. This vested interest is to help ensure that appropriateness is upheld in the reviews regarding questions, designs, or methodology. • 18. Motherhood Vs Motherhood It seems being a women in today s society means we have one path eventually: motherhood. However motherhood means something different depending on what your social status is, or whether you are white or black. Mothers are expected to take care of their children, and this type of unpaid labor seems to fall mostly on women, rather than men. I remember growing up, I had to take care of my younger brother (get him after school, and feed him when we got home). My parents were always working and would get home a couple of hours after we were done with school. However I always remember my mom checking up on us to make sure we got home ok, we ate, etc. I hardly remember my dad ever doing that. Now as an adult, I ask myself why would my dad would not take even some of these responsibility and also make sure we got home safe. Taking care of the children seems to only rely in the women rather than the men. Even though my mom would have a job, just the same as him, my mom would have to rush home before my dad would so she could have a meal prepared for him. She would make me help her in the kitchen, as I needed to learn how to cook . These are some of the examples how we as women, learn through our parents that regardless of having a job, just the same as men, we are expected to take care of the home, as well as the children. Applying different analytical approaches to films Dog soldiers Critical approaches: The sound used in dog soldiers was very dramatic and is non diegetic. The editing was fast paced and added dramatic tension to the setting of the film; the setting was quite dark throughout the film and as it was set in an isolated house in a forest this also helped to add to the dramatic effect. Looking at the French Revolution, the royal blood wasn t blue, but jaundiced shade of red and riddled with broken chromosomes. The French Revolution was a period of economical and social events that led to a crisis, which lasted from 1789 until 1799 due to the inefficiency of the French government and rebellion against the government too. The dissatisfaction of people against the Monarch and the debt of the government were specifically two of the main causes that led to the French Revolution. French government was extremely in debt. French government had used more money than what they had in their budget and this caused them not only to be in debt but also to be at the border of bankruptcy. ... France was at height of European power because there was growth of industry and growth of population; rise of middle class. But the rise of the middle class meant that poverty increased too, leaving an unbalanced social structure of society were people were divided into three different estates (First estate, Second estate, Third estate) which ranked from high church members, bourgeoisie merchants to peasants. Peasants could barley get the money necessary to pay the royalty which now, were some bourgeoisie who lived like some of the nobles. The inequality of the different estates was the cause of anger from people. People from the Third estate had to pay extremely high taxes, and people from the First estate were exempted from paying these taxes. You may think that by gaining money you could move up estates. It was very rare for people to move up the ladder from estate to estate now that there was inequality in power. The blood is actually a deep crimson color, and the idea that it s blue probably originated from the appearance of blue veins, which are so colored because of your skin, not your blood. In life, each of us will be in uncomfortable situations that are outside of our comfort zone. However, we have to be become accustomed in environments that are normally perceived as uncomfortable to experience what others may have to deal with on a daily basis. Additionally, this applies to social workers. We may deal with clients or different situations that are out of our comfort zone. However, we must overcome it to be more aware, as well as completing the job to the best of our abilities. For instance, a strongly devoted Baptist African American male may be uncomfortable attending a LGBT Pride parade due to his beliefs. Nonetheless, this experience may change his perspective on individuals from the LGBT community and cause him to not be as biased or judgmental. It s most prominent during the time of reconstruction in the form of lynching. Lynching is termed as a killing organized and performed by a group or mob of people. Some justify it as different from murder and get away from it. That is complete ideocracy. Lynching is just a subcategory or another form of murder but not a different crime in itself in my opinion. It was a combination of sadism and racism that white used to subjugate African Americans because they were afraid to be equal. For many years, Americans were at the top of the social caste system and something was coming to ruin the system that has worked to their benefit and it was called African American progression. African Americans were making a life for themselves and the white man was not having it. Out of fear, Americans, usually those that felt like they were close to equal to negro status and less educated, started to use lynching as a way to instill fear into the heart of the Black community. One of the main arguments for boxing being banned is that serious medical injury can result from boxing due to continuous blows to the head. During this period, an assumed realism connected with Clifford Odets, Lillian Hellman, and Eugene O Neill s realistic plays were the standard for commercially viable Broadway audiences. For many readers, Frankenstein is much more than a simple horror story, it is a story about family, abandonment, the consequences of the quest for knowledge, and many other themes which influence the path of the story. One of the most notable themes within the novel is the idea of good versus evil. This theme adds extreme depth to the text, as the reader is left to decide which character is good and which is evil. Shelley s use of intertextuality in the novel emphasises her point, especially with the inclusion of the strong influence that Milton s Paradise Lost has on the monster. I am thy creature: I ought to be thy Adam, but I am rather the fallen angel, whom thou drivest from joy for no misdeed. From the moment he is created, we, like the monster question whether he is Adam, or the fallen angel, and therefore wonder whether it is he or Victor which is the creature of evil. The tale of Frankenstein leads the reader into the logic of creation and of the mind, and through her thoughts on good versus evil; Shelley also forces the reader to look even further beyond the horror of the novel to the idea of the doppelganger effect. Gladrioters And Roman Gladiators Response Paper #3 Gladiators vs. Charioteers Roman charioteers and Roman gladiators were at the pinnacle of the entertainment industry during ancient Roman times. They both had large followings, were keys to political power, and were the reasons for architectural masterpieces. Charioteers and gladiators, however, were quite different in many ways. They had differences in backgrounds, in risks of their profession, in their professional careers, and in the various things they can stand for and represent. Gladiators and Charioteers in Ancient Rome are brought up and trained in different ways. The gladiators, for example, could either be prisoners of war, criminals, or free men . However, The taint of becoming a gladiator essentially took away one s free status, even from those who entered the profession voluntarily. One could say that all gladiators were slaves (Futrell 125). Being as everyone is essentially a slave, free men becoming gladiators would have to sign an agreement giving away their rights to choose. This wasn t something that you would see happen in the realm of chariot racing. Although, both were still considered infamis essentially meaning they did not enjoy the rights of citizens. The background in training was also quite different for these two. A gladiator would go to a ludi ran by lunista who were in charge of acquisition and training of the gladiators. They would then be assigned a doctor to go with the style they are to be trained in. This is different from the way charioteers were brought up. Often time they would be trained from adolescents specifically for chariot racing. These riders as well as their horses would be controlled by four different factions who were responsible for the training, negotiating, and maintenance of the individual riders. The large difference here coming in the early up bringing of the charioteers as well as the factions versus the ludi. The risk in these two professions also varied greatly. Both involved a lot of risk, but it came in different ways. • 43. American And Mexican American Culture Mexican American Being a Latina born in America and growing up here, I was taught celebrating American culture like, Memorial, independence and Labor Day, with the explosion of bright colorful fireworks, the smell of fire when turning on the grill and the best part; no school! Also celebrating Christmas and new year s the American way, going to church, eating, and opening presents on Christmas day. It wasn t until 4 years ago I went to Mexico and realized there s more to my own rooted culture and how lucky I am to have both the American and Mexican culture in my life realizing the generation of Mexican Americans are forming their own culture with both lifestyles. One of the holidays I celebrated in Mexico was the day of the dead, or as called in Spanish El Dia de Los Muertos , which could be considered as Halloween in the America. It is first not celebrated only one day which is October 31st on Halloween. It is celebrated October 31st through November 1st, there is no running towards the neighborhood and ringing doorbells for candy, not even dressing up as a princess or your favorite super hero. Four years ago, I was 13, you could say I was disappointed I didn t get to dress up. I was in confusion and upset that they were missing out on dressing up and getting free candy. The next day my mom told me I would be able to dress up, but not in a costume, in a Mexican traditional dress with bright colors, my hair in a crowned braid and my face painted as a skull. I was ... My boyfriend, Austin, was in town for Christmas from Fort Riley where he was stationed with the army. After Austin picked me up from work we had to rush home to eat dinner and change because we were going to take Christmas photos. I had no idea where we were taking the photos at, Austin picked out the place. He was going to wear his uniform for the photos, but he realized he forgot his tan under shirt back in Kansas. I was upset because I really wanted him to wear his uniform for some of our photos. I finished getting ready and we rushed to the closest and only military apparel store hoping they would have a shirt in his size. They didn t have a short sleeve shirt in his size but thankfully they had a long sleeve tan shirt that fit him. We arrived at the destination for the photos and I fell in love. It was a beautiful castle from the 1800s. I have lived right down the road from this castle my whole life and never knew it existed. When we first arrived the guy that owned it took us on a tour, to pick out the best place I wanted the photos taken. I saw this beautiful Christmas tree and I fell in love with it.
