Susan B Anthony Essay
Crafting an essay on Susan B. Anthony can be a challenging yet intellectually stimulating task.
The difficulty lies not only in narrating her life story but in delving into the complex social and
political landscape of the 19th century. Susan B. Anthony was a pivotal figure in the women's
suffrage movement, and any essay on her must navigate through the intricacies of her activism,
the challenges she faced, and the impact she left on the fight for women's rights.
The challenge begins with the vast amount of information available, making it crucial to sift
through historical records, primary sources, and scholarly analyses to present a comprehensive
and accurate portrayal of Susan B. Anthony's life and contributions. Additionally, one must
grapple with the task of contextualizing her struggles within the broader socio-political context
of her time, including the prevailing attitudes towards women and the evolving nature of the
suffrage movement.
Another layer of complexity arises when considering the various dimensions of Anthony's
advocacy, such as her involvement in abolitionism and her collaboration with other prominent
figures like Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Balancing these aspects while maintaining a cohesive
narrative requires careful planning and thorough research.
Furthermore, capturing the essence of Anthony's character – her determination, resilience, and
unwavering commitment to equality – adds an emotional dimension to the essay. Crafting a
piece that not only informs but also resonates with the reader on a personal level is a formidable
task that demands a nuanced approach to storytelling.
In conclusion, writing an essay on Susan B. Anthony necessitates a deep understanding of
historical events, an ability to synthesize complex information, and an adept storytelling skill to
engage the reader. It is an intellectual challenge that, when met with diligence and passion, can
result in a compelling exploration of a pivotal figure in the fight for women's rights.

Microsoft Antitrust Law Case
On October 19, 1998, Microsoft was in a courtroom. The technology giant and
household name was on trial for monopolizing the software industry. They were
accused of forcing computer makers to use their internet browser as part of the
Windows software. In the process violated Section 1 and 2 of the Sherman Antitrust
Law. According to Section 1 of the Sherman
Antitrust Law, companies are prohibited to make agreements in restraint of trade
such as price fixing, refusals to deal, bid rigging, etc. The parties involved might be
competitors, customers, or a combination of the two. (economics) Section 2 of the
Sherman Antirust Law states that no company is allowed to monopolize or attempted
to monopolize in their industry. Through anticompetitive means, Microsoftbegan to

On November, 1990, Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson declared that Microsoft was
acting as a monopoly in the personal computer operation systems market and was
taking actions to eliminate opposing companies. After the ruling, Microsoft
appealed and the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals overturned Judge Jackson s rulings.
They decided not to break up Microsoft and would give them a less harsh antitrust
penalty. Microsoft decided to create a settlement with the companies it harmed. The
settlement required Microsoft to share it application programing interfaces and
required three people to have full access to Microsoft s system, records, and source
code for five years.
In my personal opinion, I think that it is unfair for someone to break the law and get
caught and not receive the punishment they deserve. Microsoft got a slap on the wrist
for their actions. This decision by the courts set a precedent for other companies in
the future. They will look at this case and see how they can get away with trying to
monopolize the market. When companies try to monopolize the market, competition
is destroyed. Microsoft should have been

The Question of Universal Suffering and Salvation as...
Endo s Deep River opens up an unsettling encounter with the spiritual vision of India
described through the experience of five Japanese travelers from vastly different
backgrounds each of whom faces a troubling personal crisis. By exploring the depth
of the human need to understand ourselves and our purpose in life, Endo illuminates
his appreciation of the workings of grace from a God present in the sufferings of
humanity. Endo delves deep into the human condition through his characters that
reflect the complex individuals and personalities we are. Endo examines the moral
dilemmas facing each character and portrays a clear picture of the river and its deep
significance. With the purpose of touring Buddhist temples in India, five... Show

Endo s story creates a spiritual journey that moves us toward religious allegory but
achieves its strength through the turbulent waters of the Ganges. Even with the
droppings of animals, a odor of burning flesh, its color of milky tea, (Endo 107) and
the dust of surrounding villages, the river becomes a fruitful image to the reader.
Endo s descriptions of Indian customs from the Japanese viewpoint are evident,
through the Japanese travelers and also through the way he uses imagery to suggest
a merging of the ancient Japanese beliefs (Koshinto) with the Indian beliefs about
the Ganges and his own Christian beliefs. Koshinto lies at the core of Japanese
sensibility and forms Japanese traditional lifestyle (Mase Hasegawa 28). Each
traveler or character is searching for a greater understanding, not merely of the
motivating force behind their behavior, but of a deeper nature. In doing so, they all
find themselves in direct confrontation with their own personal desires for spiritual
rejuvenation. They embark upon journeys toward greater self understanding where
each is caught up in his own process of individuation. The river is a recurrent site
motif with ritual significance, providing an idyllic destination.
Endo gives the River Ganges different metaphorical significances which we
understand through the cases of the five tourists; it is a balm for haunting memories,
a remedy for loneliness, and a cure for feelings of emptiness and worthlessness.
Example Of Critical Thinking Examples
The concept of critical thinking in my eyes basically means thinking outside the
box! In other words, means to think about the topic or situation in another way then
what the specific reason should be. I think we all think outside the box and we
think that a certain situation should be done another way. For example, I work in
the claims department for life insurance and I code a lot of different reasons for
cause of death. When I look at a death certificate there are multiple reasons to why
the insured has passed away from but I need to be specific on the cause of death. I
have to think outside the box about the main reason why the insured passed away
from what illness and then start coding it from the different causes they have had

Roberto Benigni Caring For Family
How does the director Benigni convey the theme of caring for family in the movie
Life is Beautiful?
Directed by Roberto Benigni, Life is Beautiful (1997) is an Italian movie about a
man who falls in love and creates a family then has his whole life go sideways when
his family is taken to the jew concentration camp. In this essay I will be talking about
how caring for family is shown through the whole film, and will look into certain
areas of the movie including the production design, who the camera is focusing on,
and the care for family shown in what s being said.
Caring for family is first shown is in the second act about 50 minutes through the
movie when Joshua is born. The camera focus is on Guido and Joshua a lot for the

Video Games Effect on People
Video games are almost always present in any house that is home to an adolescent
child. While video games are popular among people of all ages, adolescent children
are usually the most involved. An article was developed by three members of the
Psychopathology department at a university in the Netherlands. While addressing the
use of video games the statement was made that Today, in the United States, 91% of
children between the ages of 2 and 17 playvideo games (Granic, Lobel, Engels).
Children may spend countless hours sitting in from of a television screen,
participating in the electronic activities. While there are many different genres of
video games, perhaps among the most popular are those that contain a high level of
violence and hostility. Along with the violent content and commentary, these
videogames create a hostile mindset. Video games have the ability to cause negative
effects in the way young people think and act socially. In support of the belief that
video games benefit people intellectually, there is a claim that gameplay provides
cognitive, motivational, emotional, and social benefits (Granic, Lobel, Engels). In
partial response, video games cannot offer cognitive benefits because they do not
offer real life lessons. Yes, game play may allow someone to gain knowledge that will
later be applied to the video game, but there are no positive real world techniques to
be obtained. Playing video games will not increase and individuals motivational
The John Brown And The Pottawatomie Massacre
On May 24, 1856, John Brown and his small army of men raided Lawrence, Kansas,
killing five unsuspecting civilians. The attack ended in the capture and hanging of
Brown, as the action was seen as treasonous. Since this event, debate has incessantly
surrounded the figure due to the violence and morality of the situation. Despite the
lives lost, John Brownwas a hero because of the reasoning of the raid and the lack of
alternative options.
The event, known as the Pottawatomie Massacre, is one of honorableness since it
was enacted to promote the liberty of the real victims of the time, the slaves. To only
acknowledge the five civilians as the targets would be to ignore the history of deaths
in the slave community and the then current 3.2 million
Phil Rudd Case Study
Back in April, Phil Rudd plead guilty to threatening to kill, and possession of
cannabis and methamphetamine in a New Zealand court. The former AC/DC
drummer faced seven years in prison, but he was just sentenced to eight months of
home detention. Rudd admitted that he threatened to kill a former employee, but
he stated he was under the influence of drugs when he called and threatened the
victim. At one point, Rudd was also charged with murder for hire, but the charge
was dropped due to lack of evidence. According to reports, Rudd initially hired
someone to kill his former employee and he offered the person large amounts of
cash, a house, and a vehicle in order to have the victim murdered. Rudd s days with
AC/DC are presumably over, and
Multitasking And Retention Paper
Attention and Retention Inhibited in the Electronic Age It may be hard to grasp the
idea that developing electronical multitasking lifestyles may in turn develop an
inability or prevention to learn at full capacity. Electronic multitasking may inhibit
the way a person is capable of receiving and retaining important information, whether
it be in school or in a person s everyday life. In order to truly learn, a student or
person must develop the proper skills of paying attention. Over the past decade, as
electronic technologies have advanced and become more and more integrated into
everyday life, studies are showing that electronic multitasking has not only brought
along the persistent belief that one must learn to do many things at once, but... Show

As Clifford Nass (2009) says, the research is almost unanimous, which is very rare
in social science, and it says that people who chronically multitask show an
enormous range of deficits. They re basically terrible at all sorts of cognitive tasks,
including multitasking. Nass s statement is basically saying that although many
studies have been conducted, the results are all fairly similar and they are all related
closely. As society continues to develop and as electronicscontinue to develop, it is
most likely that these issues that are currently being and have been studied will

The Performance Of Sprinklers For Tunnel Protection Essay
One of the early test programs to study the performance of sprinklers for tunnel
protection was conducted in the Ofenegg tunnel in Switzerland in 1965. The
tunnel was an old single track railway tunnel, 4 m wide at the base and 6 m high.
Three fire sizes obtained with aircraft petrol fuel were used in the test with following
specifications: (a) 100L and 6.6 m2 pool size; (b) 500 L and 47.5 m2 pool size; and
(c) 1000 L and 95 m2 pool size. Two lines of sprinklers were installed on the ceiling
of the tunnel. The water capacity was 19 L/(min m2). There was no information on the
sprinkler system activation time.
The fires developed very quickly during the tests and the maximum temperature was
reached 1 to 2 minutes after ignition. Temperatures in the tunnel were quite high with
maximum temperatures near the ceiling ranging from 1200 degree Celsius to 1400
degree Celsius prior to sprinkler activation.
The sprinklers were able to extinguish all of the fires within a short period of time.
But, a significant quantity of hot steam was obtained during fire suppression.
Visibility was found to decrease because of hot steam and cooling of the smoke layer
by the sprinklers discharge. Smoke and hot steam were pushed a considerable
distance from the fire site, resulting in higher temperatures than without sprinklers at
some locations in the tunnel.
After the fire was extinguished, the fuel continuously evaporated with the vapour
spreading along the tunnel. The vapour was re ignited in the
Comparing Animal Animals
Do you ever wonder if animals of different species ever act the same? If you say no
then you re just like me. Two completely different animals who behave the same
don t sound like a true possibility for most of us because we hardly see such quality
played out. And if we do it s commonly viewed on a video we have found on the
internet or a picture with caption of how a horse acts like a dogor something of the
sort. The majority of the population have pets of their own at home, which we can
say are the typical dog, cat and fish. I assume you may have guessed that I too have
some of these animals as a pet; however I also have a pet that a great amount of
people do not have a parrot. Yes that s right my pet parrot named chipsy. I have
three dogs, two fish and one parrot. But the two that act alike are my Senegal parrot
Chipsy and my Bishon mixed poodle named Princess. My dog Princess is the
typical dog u have seen or heard of. Princess has white curly hair and is short and
fat. Princess doesn t chirp, but obviously she barks. When someone s at the door
her loud barks over ride Chipsys chirps and even though it does not lead to screams
it does turn into howling. As soon as someone who she doesn t know walks in, all
hell breaks loose. Princess and Chipsy both create chaos when there are people in
the house. Making me which I had remote to mute them every time. Another
ordinary dog act Princess does is beg for head rubbed. Princess will shove her head

Shared-Sak Work Practices
A recent survey of 400 multinational corporations found that two thirds plan to
implement shared desk workplaces by 2020. But research shows these arrangements
have a range of outcomes, many of which are negative. The Conversation
A recently published study of 1,000 Australian employees found that shared desk
environments had a number of problems. These included increased distrust,
distractions, uncooperative behaviour and negative relationships. On top of this,
there was a decreased perception of support from supervisors.
Another study showed that shared desk environments can lead to employee
marginalisation, indifference and inattention to co workers, loss of identity and
decreased organisational commitment.
These studies and more should ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By using these arrangements, an employer can fit more workers into an existing space
and more efficiently use the available space.
Hot desking is where employees either share a desk with others or are not assigned
a permanent desk and must find one when needed. Hot desking arose as a strategy
to save on space and to cater to the needs of employees who largely worked outside
the office.
Activity based work, by contrast, assumes all employees work flexibly and will
seek out a range of different spaces to undertake different tasks. As such, these
workspaces provide a range of work settings for different types of activities such as
meetings, collaboration, private work, creativity and concentration. Employees are
expected to switch between these settings as necessary.
Proponents of activity based work claim that cost is not a major driver of its uptake.
Rather, companies have implemented it to attract and retain talent and increase
collaboration and innovation, employee wellbeing and sustainability.
But plenty of research shows negative effects of shared desk workplaces. These
negatives potentially outweigh the

Microsoft also has been working extensively in their research labs on algorithms so
operating systems can learn how to anticipate how people work. The differentiating
feature of SuperFetch is a result of this research, and relies on machine learning
techniques to anticipate usage patterns. This is in part due to the latent semantic
indexing Microsoft is pioneering in Microsoft Research. Microsoft also anticipates
the majority of users to rely on USB drives and hybrid hard disk drives. The
branding on these optimization techniques is ReadyBoost and ReadyDrive. Highly

including SSL and TLS cryptographic extensions. There are dozens of features for
business users and developers, most notably being support for Version 3.0 of the

The Dangers Of Tobacco And Tobacco
With more people dying from tobacco related illnesses than any other source,
smoking and tobacco use is the single largest source of preventable deaths in the
world. There have been many attempts at controlling smoking in America which not
only harms the user but also the people around them. None of the attempts have
succeeded fully so far. This essay will show why by providing evidence and history
about smoking and tobaccouse and analyzing current actions or rather inactions
addressing this problem; this essay will explain the nature of this tobacco epidemic,
and examining the steps needed to further resolve this problem.
One of the reasons why tobacco is so hard to remove from American society is the
depth of which it was buried into American history. Tobacco been used for as long
as America was a country, and even before that, in colonial times. European nations
first encountered tobacco use by the Native Americans. According to Cotton
(1998) on October 12, 1492, Christopher Colombus was offered dried leaves as a
token of friendship by native Arawaks. The leaves turned out to be tobacco, which
the Native Americans smoked for the purpose of communicating with spirits. (para.
2). As the exploration of the Americas increased, tobacco was brought back to
Europe and it quickly caught on. The popularity of tobacco was so great, that at its
peak price, it was worth the same as its weight in silver (Cotton, 1998, para. 18).
When the colonies were first established, tobacco was

The Theory Of Substance Dependention
This essay consists of information concerning substance dependence. It outlines what
substance dependence is all about, which includes its symptoms, a theory to explain
the phenomena and the South African perspective of the disorder. Substance
Dependence is a behavioral and physiological phenomenon which happens after a
person has been practicing substance use over a long period of time and the
individual does this repeatedly (Austin, Botha, Du Plessis, Du Plessis, Jordaan, Lake,
Moletsane, Nel, Pillay, Ure, Visser, Von Krosigk, Vorster, 2013). People who use
these substances have difficulty controlling the amounts they consume and tend to
use the substance excessively; the person has a continued desire to use the substance.
They tend to crave the substance therefore causing a difficulty in controlling the use
of the substance. Substance dependence disorders are more severe forms of
Substance abuse disorders and involves a physiological dependence on the substance
(Coleman, Butcher Carson,1984,Pg. 397). Substance dependence can occur at any
age but happens to be most common in adolescence and young adulthood, leaving
teenagers more prone to being affected by it (Coleman, Butcher Carson, 1984, Pg.

Substances that affect this functioning include Alcohol, heroin, marijuana and
barbiturates (White Watt, 1973) .Some of these drugs are legal while others such as

is so powerful as to defy rational control. Substance dependence has a long history
and in recent years has raised more of a social problem because there is an increase
in the convenient availability of such substances (White Watt, 1973, Pg.

The Sandwich Generation
After reading the article The Sandwich Generation: Who is Caring for you? by Ruth
Tarantine I have learned what the Sandwich Generation is and how to assist
individuals in this generation. The Sandwich Generation was originally used to
describe baby boomers that were women in their 30s and 40s who cared for their
parents and their own children. This term was coined by Dorothy Miller. As time
passed, the term changed to include both male and females and the age range is
now 40 to 65 years old. Almost 50% of adults 40 50 years old care for a parent and
child. Caring for a parent and child can stress a caregiver. Adding a chronic disease
to either parent or child can put additional stress on the caregiver. To help relieve
some of this stress a caregiver will seek outside help, such as hospitalization, which
in reality can do more harm than good for the caregiver. The caregiver will think that
having their parent hospitalized will relieve this stress, but instead this will cause
them to feel guilty. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were plenty of options provided in the article but I decided to cover the ones
I believed would be most helpful to anyone. The first step you can take is to take
care of yourself. Many times when helping others we forget about ourselves. We
put things off to the side or don t pay attention to our own needs. We can forget to
eat right, sleep, get regular checkups, or even take a break. When you are
constantly taking care of someone you may go to a local fast food place because
you don t have time to cook a healthy meal. Some caregivers will turn to drugs or
alcohol to relieve stress. This can complicate their lives even more and make them
more irritable. All of these factors can add up and decrease your quality of

Their reaction is usually different. Many are driven by doctors to fix their child s
deafness. Whether it is through hearing aids, surgery, audiologists, speech therapy,
using teachers that are trained in children with disabilities. The child grows up
thinking something is wrong with them. Sadly hearing parents don t realize that Deaf
parents raise their Deaf children successfully with out many of these expensive
services.
A lot of frustration and stress builds because the parents cannot communicate
properly with their child. Hearing parents often say that they were never informed of
the many options that Deaf parents in the Deaf World use with their child. Such as
early use of ASL, hiring Deaf baby sitters and day caretakers.
Having spent months on an emotional roller coaster some parents refuse to accept
the diagnosis that their child is Deaf. They are in denial that may last for years.
Some go so far as placing their Deaf child (whom they view as just having a hearing
impairment) in programs designed for hearing children who have disabilities. This
delays the start of effective educational programming and the Deaf child s academic
achievement is likely to reflect the delay.
Many young Deaf children cling to their hearing mothers excessively. There is almost
no meaningful communication. The interaction between parent and child becomes
more the relation of teacher to pupil.

Metaphors We Live By George Lakoff And Johnson
George Lakoff and Mark Johnson state in their article, Metaphors We Live By, that
...metaphor is pervasive in everyday life, not just in language but in thought and
action (3). They are saying that metaphors are used all the time, and not just when
people talk, but metaphors are used in how people think and act too. I agree with
this statement because after reading Lakoff and Johnson, I have become more aware
of the metaphors I use in everyday life to describe everything, and I use the metaphors
more than I thought. Barbara Tomlinson backs Lakoff and Johnson s statement up by
presenting readers, in her article, Tuning, Tying, and Training Texts: Metaphors for
Revision, with a select variety of metaphors many different writers use when... Show

One metaphor she talks about is cutting, but she goes into deeper specifications using
pruning and uses linguistic evidence to prove the metaphor by saying, David Jones
(1966), having crawled out on limbs, then goes ahead and prunes them; Penelope
Farmer (1976) prunes her stories radically ... (Tomlinson 69). She takes the metaphor
of cutting (pruning), and then takes words associated with pruning to present the
readers with evidence.
Tomlinson went through papers and determined how authors thought of revision and
what metaphor they use when describing it. She then continues to talk about the
metaphors and provide evidence theses authors use for their metaphorical thinking.
She gives readers a way to think about their own revision process through the
metaphors authors use.
A few of Tomlinson s metaphors for revision also fit how I think of my own revision
process. Sewing and tailoring is one that works well with how I revise my papers.
While sewing, fabric swatches are removed using a scissor to shape what is being
made. Then, thread is used to hold the pieces together, and make the final product.
When revising my papers, I take out sections that do not fit, and then smaller
additions are put in to make the paper fit what it s supposed to be about. The smaller
pieces are usually parts that make the paper flow better or, hold it together, like
thread does while sewing or tailoring. Then,
Aylmer s Obsession In The Birth Mark
No one is perfect, We may try to be or aspire to be, But it can never be humanly
possible. The definition of beauty in the Webster s dictionary states Pleasing the
senses of the mind, Or being very high standard of looks. Often in the world man
attempts to perfect mother nature. During most of these occasions this attempt
leads to devastating endings, such as in the case of The Birth Mark by Nathaniel
Hawthorne. In this story the main character Aylmer lets his obsession with beauty
and looks destroy his world. Aylmer emphasizes the mark upon his wife Georgiana
s cheek. The birth mark is described as a human hand (213) Throughout the story
Aylmer displays his affection for his wife, as well as his disguse with her facial
appearance. Kissing her only on her right cheek, not the one that bores the
expression of the crimson hand (215). Howard Jeffery states in his writing on The
Birth Mark that Aylmer is trying to play the role of the protective male, He feels that
the mark may render him unnecessary to Georgiana . Aylmer s insecurities,

The Impact Of Demonetization On Indian Economy

However, these varied currencies remained convertible into Euros at fixed exchange
rates for a while to assure a smooth transition.
In 2015, the Zimbabwean government demonetized its dollar as a way to combat the
country s hyperinflation, which was recorded at 231,000,000%. The three month
process involved expunging the Zimbabwean dollar from the country s financial
system and solidifying the U.S. dollar, the Botswana pula and the South African rand
as the country s legal tender in a bid to stabilize the economy2.
India s Demonetization
In 2016, the Indian government decided to demonetize the 500 and 1000 rupee notes,
the two biggest denominations in its currency system; these notes accounted for 86%
of the country s circulating cash. With little warning, India s Prime Minister
Narendra Modi announced to the citizenry on Nov. 8 that those notes were worthless,
effective immediately and they had until the end of the year to deposit or exchange
them for newly introduced 2000 rupee and 500 rupee bills.
Chaos ensued in the cash dependent economy (some 78% of all Indian customer
transactions are in cash), as long, snaking lines formed outside ATMs and banks,
which had to shut down for a day. The new rupee notes have different specifications,
including size and thickness, requiring re calibration of ATMs: only 60% of the
country s 200,000 ATMs were operational. Even those dispensing bills of lower
denominations faced shortages. The
Gran Torino Character Analysis
One of the main things that intrigued me in Gran Torino (Eastwood, 2008) was the
culture of the Hmong males. It surprised me was when Sue stated Hmong girls fit
in better here. The girls go to college and the boys go to jail. (Eastwood, 2008). I
was not aware that there were gangs and high crime rates in the Hmong culture. I am
interested to learn about the Hmong way of life and to try to discover why Hmong
males are prone to decreased success and gangactivity. Another thing that intrigued
me was formed around when Thoa did not want to be in the gang and strived to be
different than his peers. His reluctance to join the gang was portrayed as
unacceptable by his cousin and other gang members. It seems there may be some

He has a blatant attitude of superiority and does not hold back when using racial
slurs. Watching this behavior deeply bothered me. Like Walt, I have heard may
people say things like they wished a certain group of people would go back to their
own country or learn to speak English. Many scenarios flashed in my head when I
have heard other medical professionals speak this way as well. I then began to
reflect on my own behavior. Although, I do not feel like I am better than anyone, my
thoughts at times say otherwise. I began recounting several times when I have taken
care of patients that did not speak English, and I, at times, have been internally
annoyed that we could not communicate effectively. Other times, I ve thought to
myself that patient s health practices are bizarre. Although I have never said
anything out loud to anyone, I wonder if they could sense that I was uncomfortable
or frustrated? I truly hope they did not notice. I think that maybe we feel less
threatened by what we are used to, and seeing people of speak in different languages,
practice other religions, and have unique health practices can make us uncomfortable
at times. I think that by gaining knowledge and becoming culturally competent can
lessen uncomfortable feelings and I desire to do for this so I can take better care of
my patients.

The Pros And Cons Of Feminism
Feminism kicked off in 1848 in Seneca Falls when the first Women s Conference
was held. This conference brought about a movement that would only grow larger
with each coming decade. Feminism is defined as the theory of the political,
economic and social equality of the sexes. Now the question of if I would consider
myself a feminist, I would have to answer no. I would describe myself as a free
thinking independent woman and do not want to be labeled under the word
feminist. I don t want to be classified under feminism because I don t fit or agree
with some of today s negative opinions that feminism portrays. One opinion is that
feminists are man haters. I am not a man hater. Upon coming to Sonoma State I
can say I have began to develop my own understandings on how I view the world,
myself, and feminism. I can say that each day I grow in some way from what I see
and understand from this world. Do I believe there are inequalities between men
and women? Absolutely. Do I believe women should receive equal pay as men?
Again, absolutely. Do I believe women should have the same educational
opportunities as men. Yes. I also see that some ideas maybe should not be equal. An
article in the Elite Daily , written by April Lee, she states her thoughts that there are
dangers of comparing men and women and trying to create same the playing field for
both. We might not realize it, but when we make these comparisons, we are openly
admitting that our understanding of how to
The Poem The Nettles Poem
Nettles This poem is an account of the day the poet s son got stung when he fell into
a bed of nettles and his reaction to that. It shows the poets paternal instincts and his
sense of duty to protect his young son. This poem is a singular paragraph, flowing
organically and its lack of punctuation and multiple run on sentences which show us
that s it s the poets chain of thoughts. At the first glance, the poem seems simple,
however as you analyze it many of its layers are uncovered. The title of this poem
itself seems simple and direct. However, nettles are the antagonist in this poem, and
therefore by naming it the readers realize that the poet is focusing on the most
important thing to him at that time, which are the nettles and how he wants to
destroy them. More important are the lessons learnt than hardships the poet faced

He sharpened his weapons and headed out to destroy the nettle bed. The poet s only
focus at that time was completely eradicating the nettle bed, so he slashed in fury
with it , slowly releasing his anger, making the process cathartic. The poet continued
his military metaphor and kept attacking the nettles until not a nettle in that fierce
parade stood upright , and then to destroy the nettle bed completely once and for all
he lit a funeral pyre to burn the fallen dead yet again comparing these nettles to
soldiers. Until now this entire battle between the poet and the nettle bed seemed
entirely one sided and the readers were sure that the poet would emerge victorious, as
there wasn t a single nettle left. Not only had the poet slashed them but he had burnt
them too. However, just like the poet the reader too had underestimated the power of
nature. The poet was arrogant to believe that he could destroy nature with his

Mcdonald s Organizational Behavior
McDonald s and Its Crisis
What should a company do when its core product is considered unhealthy or even
harmful by the public? Is it even possible for such a company survive and thrive; or
will it have to shut down its business? McDonald s fast food has for a long time been
considered unhealthy by the public. In recent years, the health conscious trends have
become increasingly popular. Moreover, many scientific studies and findings have
surfaced and successfully confirmed that children s increasing intake of fast food,
which often contains high sodium content, sugars, saturated fats, and calories, for a
long period of time would lead to childhood obesity. Moreover, obese children have a

Furthermore, the corporation was heavily condemned by the public for exploiting
children market and causing childhood obesity. Indeed, McDonald s has been using
advertising which mainly targeted children. As a result, according to the survey to
American school student in 1996, 96 percent of all children could identify Ronald
McDonald (Cohen, 2011, p8 5). How was McDonald s able to achieve the above
result? McDonald s children marketing strategies were very simple but extremely
effective to give small toys as a treatment to children in order to appeal to their
interests. With the repeated uses of this psychological influencing tactic, children
would subconsciously make a connection between McDonald s and toys. Therefore,
children, who were under the influences of McDonald s marketing strategies, could
not help to think of McDonald s whenever thinking of toys.
The plaintiff, Monet Parham, a California mother of two, sued McDonald s overly
exploiting children market on Oct 2010 (Dan, 2011).She claimed that McDonald s
gave out alluring toys that come with the meals in order to lure kids into unhealthy
diet. The mother also stated that McDonald s make it so much harder to say no to
her kids when they are really want those toys (York, 2010). The CSPI (Center for
Science in the Public Interest) confirmed that kids do not have the cognitive maturity
to understand the persuasive intent of advertising (York, 2010). Later on, the ban of

Design Of A Sustainable Design
What we know today as sustainable architectural design began in the early 20th
century; born and evolved from principles and theories of architects in addition to
physical devices all which precursor those in today sustainable architecture. These
premature design elements, and theories are visible in works such as Le Corbusiers
early 20th century, Villa Savoye; and Alvar
Aalto s mid 20th century, Villa Mairea. Reviewing and rereading these building s
physical designs and their architects design thinking we begin to unfold how
contemporary sustainable design today came to be. Examining William McDonough

Analysis Of The Bell Jar By Sylvia Plath
The Technique of Sylvia Plath: Give Her A Plath On The Back Ariel, The Bell Jar,
Daddy. Sylvia Plath had an extremely complicated lifestyle, and it very much
reflected in these books and poems she published. Each one represented a different
hardship Plath experienced, yet one in particular stood out above them all. The Bell
Jar, a novel about a young woman named Esther, living in New York City for a one
month internship, who is lost and depressed in her world, feeling like no one
understands her. The book s writing techniques include imitating personal events
Plath went through. One example of this is in the quote, I hate her , I said, and
waited for the blow to fall. . That moment where Esther confided in her doctor this
was a symbol of Sylvia Plath s hatred of her mother, Aurelia Plath. Esther had a
horrible relationship with her mom, as did the troubled author in real life.
Therefore, she included it in her novel. When young Sylvia was only eight, her
father, Otto, tragically passed away. Enraged, she believed her father left her on
purpose, and stopped believing God shortly after. It turned her whole life upside
down, and it is thought that being stuck with her strict mother all those years
fueled the fire in their rocky relationship. Eventually, she became obsessed with the
hatred of Aurelia Plath, and based many books on her. More than often, she
portrayed her mother as the evil protagonist in them. Moreover, her technique was
displayed in the following, [The Rosenbergs execution] had nothing to do with me,
but I couldn t help wondering what it would be like, being burned alive along your
nerves . Esther often had suicidal thoughts, and believed that no one understood
her, as if she was all alone in the huge city of New York. Tremendously depressed,
she decided to take her own life. However, after she derived help from Dr. Nolan,
she was able to procure a speedy recovery. Yet Esther s troubles were unmistakably
inspired by the author, as Plath, too, was diagnosed with depression at a very early
age. In fact, the novel, The Bell Jar , was written in the midst of an especially
difficult time in her life, when her husband had an affair and left her, which forced

Political Correctness Vs Freedom Of Speech
Political Correctness vs Freedom of Speech Political correctness is the idea that
certain words, policies, or opinions are too offensive and taboo that they should be
censored. While this definition may seem unfair, that is exactly what it is. This
idea of being politically correct is on the rise in America, with various factions and
sides taking advantage of it. Most notedly, it has taken effect in such areas such as
the media, academia, and industry. In these areas, employees, students, or any
subject in question may be put to the test of whether or not their views are in line
with politically correct guidelines. In many of these incidents, the subject in
question may be reprimanded, ostracized, or otherwise punished for their crimes of
thought or expression. This is a hotly debated topic in America, with both sides of
the debate passionately disputing the worth of such a thing. Due to its widespread
influence, it is debated in nearly every aspect of American life. Some feel that is
necessary, as it protects minorities, women, or any group that may be discriminated
against from offense and or hateful speech . Others feel that it is a clear assault on
freedom of speechand disproportionately punishes those for trivial comments or
opinions where no true offense should be taken. In this essay, the clear and present
danger that political correctness poses to our First Amendment right to freedom of
speech and expression will be proven and explained in vivid

Fetus Personhood
Over 1.3 million women make the decision to abort every year as a result of an
accident or incident, and all done with the mindset that either the fetus is not a
human or the baby s life does not matter (Every Child a Wanted Child). The rates
are ever increasing as more women go to abortion clinics to erase the unwanted.
Many lives could be saved if women recognized fetuses as human beings. Using four
simple proofs, one can clearly determine the fetusinside the woman s womb holds the
title of a human being, and therefore, entitled to human rightsmaking abortionan
unacceptable murder.
Does a fetus size affect their personhood? It does not, yet human adults have
decided that a person s value is based on size. This shows that we believe fetuses
have less of a right to life than an already born human because they are smaller. A
child is smaller than an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A fetus is less developed than a human baby, that much we can all agree on.
Development changes as humans age, therefore, a toddler is less developed than an
adult. Then, if a fetus can be ended, could not a toddler be also? For neither are fully
developed human beings.
Following that, one must determine whether the fetus environment really determines
whether or not it is a human. One may say, the fetus is clearly not human until it is
born. To that, I would ask, does location really change a human s personhood?
Afterall, humans live in all different locations. A fetus is not human merely because it
is inside of the mother.
Next, we must look at the fetus degree of dependency. An argument commonly made
is that the fetus could not be human as it is completely dependent upon the mother for
survival. However, what they will not say is that along with the unborn, newborn and
toddlers also depend on mother for survival. Leaving the three alone without any
parental care would result in

A Brief Note On Poultry Industry And Nepal
Abstract Poultry Industry in Nepal One of the most important aspects of livestock
production is ensuring producers have adequate biosecurity for their facilities.
Biosecurity is procedures or measures designed to protect the population against
harmful biological or biochemical substances. Whether it be small scale or large
scale, the easiest way to maintain the cleanliness of a facility and ensure the health
of the animal is through proper sanitation. This is extremely important in Nepal as
the poultry industry accounts for 4% of the gross domestic product (GDP). In fact,
there are over 50 billion chickens raised each year for both meat and eggs with a
meat production of 42,180 metric tonnes and an egg production of 8,74,194 (in...

Temperatures in Nepal range from 40в„ѓ in the Himalayas, to 40в„ѓ in the Terai.
Spring lasts from March to May, summer lasts from June to August, fall lasts from

summer months, monsoon clouds cover most of Nepal, raining almost every day and
accounting for more than 1000 mm of rainfall each year.
Population
Nepal has a population of 28.7 million people. The most common religion practiced
throughout Nepal is Hinduism, followed by Buddhism. As they are a developing
country, Nepal has to cope with overpopulation. The capital of Nepal, Kathmandu,

Prince Hamlet, of Shakespeare s famed tragedy, and Marlowe of Joseph Conrad s

both works. Prince Hamlet and Marlowe are brought to the very brink of insanity by

Not only are the natures and causes of the evil present in both Hamlet and Heart of
Darkness remarkably similar, but also each character s introduction to it.
Interestingly, Prince Hamlet and Marlowe share a certain naГЇvetГ© when they first
come upon their evils. Hamlet returns home after hearing of his father s death from
studies in Wittenberg, not yet knowing the cause of his death. Marlowe sets off
from Brussels to explore a blank space...a place of darkness (1618), with an
innocent childhood dream to explore the reaches of civilization. Neither man could
have known the immense corruption and evil that awaited them at their destination,
but both would quickly learn. Hamlet returns to Denmark to quickly find that a
hasty incestuous marriage between his widowed mother and his uncle would all
too quickly follow his own father s funeral. Perhaps the most significant sign that
all was not right in Denmark was the apparition of the slain former King. Hamlet s
father s apparition is viewed by Hamlet and his company as an open sign that
something is rotten in the state of Denmark (1068). From this first revelation, Hamlet
learns by degrees of the evil that attempts to hide itself behind the legitimate passing
on of the throne. Hamlet gets a first glimpse of the evil in the appearance of the
restless soul of his father, later, more so with that ghost s revelation of the murderous
truth to Hamlet, up until Hamlet s own observation of Cladius unique

Archetypes In Pan s Labyrinth
Pan s Labyrinth is a story about of a young girl named Ofilia, goes on a hero s

in the movie, but leaves out a few that I think are in the movie. The essay does a
good job of creating a summary of the movie, and then they talk about different types
of architypes in the movie. The first architype is when ofelia places the the missing

Incidents In The Life Of A Slave Girl Is A Novel With A
Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl is a novel with a clear and concise purpose: to
convince white women, preferably with families, in the American Northern states to
adopt, support, and advocate freedom for slaves in the Southern states. Harriet
Jacobs, through her narrative of her own traumatizing experiences as a slave, brings
to her desired readers a view into the world of slaverythat was not so commonplace:
one that told of the true horrors slaves suffered not only in the hands of their slave
masters, but through the systemic and widespread institution of slavery. In her
accounts of slavery, Jacobs recounts the times in which the slave owner, under
pretense or not, cared for the slave. In this vein, the incident pertaining to Aunt...

Flint herself claiming Aunt Nancy used to sleep lying near her on the entry floor.
These descriptors work to paint an image of Aunt Nancy as a guard canine, not a
fellow human being. In conjunction, the reader for once sees a moment of humanity
from Dr. Flint; he attempts to console Martha by claiming that the only person to fill
Aunt Nancy s place would be Linda. The reader is introduced to the concept of
ethical slavery at this very moment. Ethical slavery claims to be for the wellbeing and
health and happiness of slaves, not for the greed of the slave and plantation owners.
As Mrs. Flint and Martha mourn the death of Aunt Nancy (of course, for wildly
different reasons), Dr. Flint attempts to manipulate Martha at her most vulnerable
state, the death of her only remaining daughter, showcasing that his gain is above her
most base humanity.
Jacobs continuously sets and solidifies Dr. Flint as a truly evil, greedy, lustful, and
sinful man corrupting Linda (Jacobs) even as an adolescent and setting the truest
example of the extreme vices of slavery. One of the more telling accounts of this is
the letter Miss Emily Flint s brother supposedly sends to Linda while she is a
fugitive working in New York. This letter, written in the most compassionate
language: we all sympathize with you in your unfortunate condition, The family will
be rejoiced to see you, and Come home, could
Mencius vs. Confucius
I think that Confucius was more correct in his views than Mencius, not because of
differing views (although they did differ at certain points), but because of the way
these ideas were carried out throughout his career, and ultimately, his life.
Confucius was a Chinese thinker and philosopher. His philosophy emphasized
personal and governmental morality, correctness of social relationships, and justice
and sincerity. These values gained prominence in China over other doctrines, such as
Taoism during the Han Dynasty. Confuciusthoughts have been developed into a
system of philosophy which has come to be known as Confucianism. It was
introduced to Europe by Matteo Ricci, who was the first to come up with the Latin
name Confucius .

For example:
When the stables were burnt down, on returning from court, Confucius said, Was
anyone hurt? He did not ask about the horses (Analects, James Legge translation).
The passage conveys the lesson that by not asking about the horses, Confucius
demonstrated that a sage values humans over property. Readers of this lesson are led
to think about whether their response would follow Confucius s, and to pursue self
improvement if it would not. Confucius, a great example of human excellence, uses
himself as the ultimate model, rather than a deity or a universally true set of abstract
principles. For these reasons Confucius s teaching may be considered a Chinese
example of humanism.
Perhaps his most famous teaching was the Golden Rule stated in the negative form,
often called the Silver Rule:
Zi Gong (a disciple of Confucius) asked: Is there any one word that could guide a
person throughout life?
The Master replied: How about reciprocity: never impose on others what you would
not choose for yourself? (Analects, David Hinton translation).
Confucius s teachings were later turned into a long set of rules and practices by his
numerous followers who organized his teachings into the Analects. In the centuries
after his death, Mencius and Xun Zi both came up with important teachings
expanding on the fundamentals associated with Confucius. In time, their writings,
together with the Analects
Comparison Of Target And Walmart
Target and Walmart are also famous companies that are developing in the United
States. To choose Walmart is a competitor company which is suitable because their
bussiness form are retail sales. In addition, the customers ofTarget and Walmart are
varied on ages, level income, and job. Thus, to base on data of annual financial
statement of Target and Walmart is important to analysis and determine the
advantages and disadvantages which they are on their business activities. Firstly, the
current ratio is used to determine the short term to pay its maturing obligation and to
have unexpected needs for cash. The current ratio s formular is, current assets divided
by current liabilities. According to Target 10 K Annual Financial Statement report,

Moreover, it also shows the liquity of inventory by calculating the times when the
average turnover in annual year. The formula of inventory turnover is calculated
as cost of good sold dived by average inventory. The cost of good of Target increases
from $51278 million in 2015 to$ 51997 million in 2016. It means that the prices
for supplies increases or is concerned with decrease revenue. The average inventory
is calculated by data on inventory in 2015 and 2016 which is $ 8695.5 million. So,
when people apply above data of Target, they get the result which equals 6.05 times.
On the other hand, the cost of goods sold of Walmart also increases from $ 360984
million in 2016 to $ 361256 million in 2017. Thus, the good and supplies increase at
this poin in Target and Walmart business operating. The Walmart inventory $44469
million in 2016 and $43046 in 2017; the average inventory is $43757.5 million.
When people base on the above formula, they can calculate the inventory turnover
which is 8.39 times. Thus, Walmart turns its inventory more effective than Target
because Walmart has a higher inventory turnover than Target. Moreover, it shows that
Walmart keeps inventory on hand which is less than Taget. It is advantage of
Walmart because a lot of goods include electronic devices, clothes, and food which
need to sell in certain time. When the company keeps them like inventory in a long
Genie Case
In this film, we view the case of a child named Genie who was isolated as a child.
Genie was discovered on November 4th, 1970 at 13 years of age where she was
discovered to have been strapped to a potty chair and isolated from the world for
most of her life. Throughout the film we see the many researchers found an interest
in Genie and began to investigate if she would be able to acquire languagealthough
she had passed the critical period of language development. Although, these
researchers believed that they were helping Genie and she displayed significant
progress it was clear that Genie was not able to speak proper English. She was able
to enhance her vocabulary but she failed to formulate proper and or grammatical
sentences. Genie went... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Every new place that Genie discovered was a new world for her, this raised her
curiosity and allowed her to want to engage and interact with her new
environment. As we know, as infants we are born with almost all the neurons that
we will have. In Genie s case, being strapped to a potter chair for most of her life
caused her to lose many of those synaptic connections that she was not able to use.
This process is referred to as pruning, which simply stated means use it or lose it,
when theses connections are not being used they disappear and deteriorate. The
ability of the infant s brain to change in form and function is referred to as
plasticity, this is important because although Genie was not taught as a child her
brain was still able to adapt and engage to her new environment. Through this we
encounter how Genie s brain was able to change throughout her new life and how
the brain has this amazing ability that allows reorganization and the ability to form
new connections. For Genie, these connections were able to form because she now
had the chance to explore her environment, which is something she was unable to
do her entire childhood. In the beginning of the film when Genie was discovered
they examined her brain waves and found that Genie was expressed abnormal wave
patterns. This is referred to as sleep spindles, which is an indication of retardation;
this raised the question of whether or not Genie was impaired at birth or due to
isolation. However, after working with her they found that she was in deed capable
of forming new synaptic connections that allowed her to learn new words and
supported the concept of brain
William Golding, Gabriel Garcia Marquez
As humans, we see life flash before our eyes and many things we take for granted
and do not give a second reasoning on. Little thought goes into to what effects; we
actually have on nature and what consequences that has on our own nature. For
this there is literature, which helps unravel human nature and explain what can
result from this carelessness. Golding and Marquez highlight the negative impacts
on human nature, through dialogue and setting. The authors want readers to
believe, that there is more wrong doing in today s society, than there is good. To
start out, at one point in everyone s life they have most likely wanted to be famous
or be involved in leadership. Too much of this treatment may lead to greed, which
is a downfall of human nature. Two authors Golding of, Lord of the Flies and
Marquez of, I Only Came to Use the Phone , depict this through Jack and Maria. In
Lord of the Flies, greed is shown through Jack believing that he should be leader,
instead of Ralph. I ought to be chief, said Jack with simple arrogance... (Golding
22). This line proves that Jack is already not fit to take the throne; he is self
centered and only cares about his position among the others. He has a lack of
concern about the other people on the island. Golding sets another example of
greed, when Jack discovers a huge pink rock for the first time, he manages to point
out how it towers over everything on the island. Jack gives the overbearing rock the
name Castle Rock, because of its

On the Google News website USA Today released an article written by Oren
Fliegelman and Mary Beth Marklien entitled Princeton U. to Give Students
Meningitis B Vaccine. Princeton University has been in the process of making the
meningitis B vaccine available to students and staff members. Princeton has began
this process after a meningitisout break, which infected six students and campus
visitors. The first of the out breaks occurred in march. According to an e mail sent
out by campus officials, the vaccine should be available in December for the first
dose, and the second dose available in February. The Center for Disease Control
and Prevention is strongly encouraging all Princeton students, undergraduate and
graduate, living in campus housing to receive a vaccine that protects against
meningitis B. Also, University employees are urged to receive the vaccine,
especially if they have sickle cell disease of other medical conditions that may
make them more susceptible to the disease. Meningococcal, more commonly know
as meningitis, is fairly rare. Meningitis can be spread through kissing, coughing,
sharing drinking glasses, and related actions. Physician James Turner states, Seven
cases is a big deal. If my child was at Princeton, I d tell him to get vaccinated. I d
take it very seriously. According to freshman Phillip Powers, people are worried, but
are not taking precautions. Freshman Warren Bein, who expects to get the vaccine
states It s better to be safe than sorry.
Reflection On Mindfulness Meditation
This course has been a surprising and welcome change from my planned summer (I
was originally taking a 4000 level management course). Before this course, I had some
limited experience with meditation, but I was self guided and used two books by
Thich Nhat Hanh. I introduced some mindfulness meditation exercises to the officers
of the Kung Fu club, but nothing more than relaxation to help us with the (surprising
amount of) stress related to our positions. Going into this course, I was apprehensive
about true mindfulness meditationbecause I have PTSD and am afraid of uncovering
painful repressed memories. To ease this anxiety, I started out in my room with my
Pikachu nearby over the course of the class, only one memory reared its ugly head,
and it has been dealt with.
The online exercises were useful for guiding me through the class. My favorite
exercises were the walking meditation and mindful eating exercises. I discovered
that if I took the time to notice and enjoy my walk to campus, I was in a better
mood when I reached my destination. At multiple points throughout the few weeks,
I found something so beautiful I had to take a picture. The mindful eating exercise
was fun, and I used a walnut; I enjoyed it a lot more than I usually do, and may
want to do this exercise more often with different foods to see just how much the
experiences differ. I found the beginner s mind section from Mindfulness Training
Online relatable because I always approach kung fu practice with a

Later on, our fear of death will bring back the old anxieties and the longing to be
protected by the father. This irrational origin of religion gives it the odour of sanctity
but it has proved unhelpful to most people: The question cannot but arise whether we
are not overrating its necessity for mankind. (Thevathasan).
Freud thought that children should not be introduced to religion at a young age. If
religion was introduced to a child to early on, it would lead to prohibition of thought
and neurotic control of impulses through repression (Thevathasan). Freud believes
that mankind needs to allow science to replace religion (Thevathasan).
Sigmund Freund did not take a religious approach to his theories, instead he believed
that people were influenced by sexuality not religion. Sigmund Freud came up with
the theory of psychosexual development, which stated that a child forms its
personality as a young child (Cherry). Psychosexual development theories have
stages, and it suggested that if a child performs all the stages successfully, the child
will have a healthy personality (Cherry). However, if the stages are not formed
properly the child will form fixation later on in their life as an adult (Cherry). The
stages of psychosexual development are oral, anal, phallic, latent, and genital stage.
The Oral stage is from birth to one years of age (Cherry). This is the stage when the

meanings; translating from one language to another, and translating others work into

there were countless controversies over the translation of written works over
centuries, from personal writings to literature. Understandably, there are no
exceptions for the case of bibletranslation. The history of bible translation began in
the 5th century BCE in Palestine, from Hebrew to Aramaic. There are many factors
that affect the content and structure of the bible when it is translated. One factor is
emotional attachment to already familiar version. Since the group of people revising
the bible are Christians themselves, they must have studied an already existing
version for their whole life. This is impossible to ignore and it appears intactly on
their work, like King James Version (KJV) and Revised Korean Version (RKV).
Another factor is the difference in languages. This is important because the structure
of language is different from culture to culture and the meaning it connotes is... Show

Susan B Anthony Essay. Image 8 of Susan B. Anthony Papers: Speeches and Writings, 1848-1895 ...

  • 1. Susan B Anthony Essay Crafting an essay on Susan B. Anthony can be a challenging yet intellectually stimulating task. The difficulty lies not only in narrating her life story but in delving into the complex social and political landscape of the 19th century. Susan B. Anthony was a pivotal figure in the women's suffrage movement, and any essay on her must navigate through the intricacies of her activism, the challenges she faced, and the impact she left on the fight for women's rights. The challenge begins with the vast amount of information available, making it crucial to sift through historical records, primary sources, and scholarly analyses to present a comprehensive and accurate portrayal of Susan B. Anthony's life and contributions. Additionally, one must grapple with the task of contextualizing her struggles within the broader socio-political context of her time, including the prevailing attitudes towards women and the evolving nature of the suffrage movement. Another layer of complexity arises when considering the various dimensions of Anthony's advocacy, such as her involvement in abolitionism and her collaboration with other prominent figures like Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Balancing these aspects while maintaining a cohesive narrative requires careful planning and thorough research. Furthermore, capturing the essence of Anthony's character – her determination, resilience, and unwavering commitment to equality – adds an emotional dimension to the essay. Crafting a piece that not only informs but also resonates with the reader on a personal level is a formidable task that demands a nuanced approach to storytelling. In conclusion, writing an essay on Susan B. Anthony necessitates a deep understanding of historical events, an ability to synthesize complex information, and an adept storytelling skill to engage the reader. It is an intellectual challenge that, when met with diligence and passion, can result in a compelling exploration of a pivotal figure in the fight for women's rights. • 2. Microsoft Antitrust Law Case On October 19, 1998, Microsoft was in a courtroom. The technology giant and household name was on trial for monopolizing the software industry. They were accused of forcing computer makers to use their internet browser as part of the Windows software. In the process violated Section 1 and 2 of the Sherman Antitrust Law. According to Section 1 of the Sherman Antitrust Law, companies are prohibited to make agreements in restraint of trade such as price fixing, refusals to deal, bid rigging, etc. The parties involved might be competitors, customers, or a combination of the two. (economics) Section 2 of the Sherman Antirust Law states that no company is allowed to monopolize or attempted to monopolize in their industry. Through anticompetitive means, Microsoftbegan to push ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Zichy 2 On November, 1990, Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson declared that Microsoft was acting as a monopoly in the personal computer operation systems market and was taking actions to eliminate opposing companies. After the ruling, Microsoft appealed and the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals overturned Judge Jackson s rulings. They decided not to break up Microsoft and would give them a less harsh antitrust penalty. Microsoft decided to create a settlement with the companies it harmed. The settlement required Microsoft to share it application programing interfaces and required three people to have full access to Microsoft s system, records, and source code for five years. In my personal opinion, I think that it is unfair for someone to break the law and get caught and not receive the punishment they deserve. Microsoft got a slap on the wrist for their actions. This decision by the courts set a precedent for other companies in the future. They will look at this case and see how they can get away with trying to monopolize the market. When companies try to monopolize the market, competition is destroyed. Microsoft should have been punished
  • 3. The Question of Universal Suffering and Salvation as... Endo s Deep River opens up an unsettling encounter with the spiritual vision of India described through the experience of five Japanese travelers from vastly different backgrounds each of whom faces a troubling personal crisis. By exploring the depth of the human need to understand ourselves and our purpose in life, Endo illuminates his appreciation of the workings of grace from a God present in the sufferings of humanity. Endo delves deep into the human condition through his characters that reflect the complex individuals and personalities we are. Endo examines the moral dilemmas facing each character and portrays a clear picture of the river and its deep significance. With the purpose of touring Buddhist temples in India, five... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Endo s story creates a spiritual journey that moves us toward religious allegory but achieves its strength through the turbulent waters of the Ganges. Even with the droppings of animals, a odor of burning flesh, its color of milky tea, (Endo 107) and the dust of surrounding villages, the river becomes a fruitful image to the reader. Endo s descriptions of Indian customs from the Japanese viewpoint are evident, through the Japanese travelers and also through the way he uses imagery to suggest a merging of the ancient Japanese beliefs (Koshinto) with the Indian beliefs about the Ganges and his own Christian beliefs. Koshinto lies at the core of Japanese sensibility and forms Japanese traditional lifestyle (Mase Hasegawa 28). Each traveler or character is searching for a greater understanding, not merely of the motivating force behind their behavior, but of a deeper nature. In doing so, they all find themselves in direct confrontation with their own personal desires for spiritual rejuvenation. They embark upon journeys toward greater self understanding where each is caught up in his own process of individuation. The river is a recurrent site motif with ritual significance, providing an idyllic destination. Endo gives the River Ganges different metaphorical significances which we understand through the cases of the five tourists; it is a balm for haunting memories, a remedy for loneliness, and a cure for feelings of emptiness and worthlessness.
  • 4. Example Of Critical Thinking Examples The concept of critical thinking in my eyes basically means thinking outside the box! In other words, means to think about the topic or situation in another way then what the specific reason should be. I think we all think outside the box and we think that a certain situation should be done another way. For example, I work in the claims department for life insurance and I code a lot of different reasons for cause of death. When I look at a death certificate there are multiple reasons to why the insured has passed away from but I need to be specific on the cause of death. I have to think outside the box about the main reason why the insured passed away from what illness and then start coding it from the different causes they have had listed
  • 5. Roberto Benigni Caring For Family How does the director Benigni convey the theme of caring for family in the movie Life is Beautiful? Directed by Roberto Benigni, Life is Beautiful (1997) is an Italian movie about a man who falls in love and creates a family then has his whole life go sideways when his family is taken to the jew concentration camp. In this essay I will be talking about how caring for family is shown through the whole film, and will look into certain areas of the movie including the production design, who the camera is focusing on, and the care for family shown in what s being said. Caring for family is first shown is in the second act about 50 minutes through the movie when Joshua is born. The camera focus is on Guido and Joshua a lot for the next few minutes
  • 6. Video Games Effect on People Video games are almost always present in any house that is home to an adolescent child. While video games are popular among people of all ages, adolescent children are usually the most involved. An article was developed by three members of the Psychopathology department at a university in the Netherlands. While addressing the use of video games the statement was made that Today, in the United States, 91% of children between the ages of 2 and 17 playvideo games (Granic, Lobel, Engels). Children may spend countless hours sitting in from of a television screen, participating in the electronic activities. While there are many different genres of video games, perhaps among the most popular are those that contain a high level of violence and hostility. Along with the violent content and commentary, these videogames create a hostile mindset. Video games have the ability to cause negative effects in the way young people think and act socially. In support of the belief that video games benefit people intellectually, there is a claim that gameplay provides cognitive, motivational, emotional, and social benefits (Granic, Lobel, Engels). In partial response, video games cannot offer cognitive benefits because they do not offer real life lessons. Yes, game play may allow someone to gain knowledge that will later be applied to the video game, but there are no positive real world techniques to be obtained. Playing video games will not increase and individuals motivational
  • 7. The John Brown And The Pottawatomie Massacre On May 24, 1856, John Brown and his small army of men raided Lawrence, Kansas, killing five unsuspecting civilians. The attack ended in the capture and hanging of Brown, as the action was seen as treasonous. Since this event, debate has incessantly surrounded the figure due to the violence and morality of the situation. Despite the lives lost, John Brownwas a hero because of the reasoning of the raid and the lack of alternative options. The event, known as the Pottawatomie Massacre, is one of honorableness since it was enacted to promote the liberty of the real victims of the time, the slaves. To only acknowledge the five civilians as the targets would be to ignore the history of deaths in the slave community and the then current 3.2 million
  • 8. Phil Rudd Case Study Back in April, Phil Rudd plead guilty to threatening to kill, and possession of cannabis and methamphetamine in a New Zealand court. The former AC/DC drummer faced seven years in prison, but he was just sentenced to eight months of home detention. Rudd admitted that he threatened to kill a former employee, but he stated he was under the influence of drugs when he called and threatened the victim. At one point, Rudd was also charged with murder for hire, but the charge was dropped due to lack of evidence. According to reports, Rudd initially hired someone to kill his former employee and he offered the person large amounts of cash, a house, and a vehicle in order to have the victim murdered. Rudd s days with AC/DC are presumably over, and
  • 9. Multitasking And Retention Paper Attention and Retention Inhibited in the Electronic Age It may be hard to grasp the idea that developing electronical multitasking lifestyles may in turn develop an inability or prevention to learn at full capacity. Electronic multitasking may inhibit the way a person is capable of receiving and retaining important information, whether it be in school or in a person s everyday life. In order to truly learn, a student or person must develop the proper skills of paying attention. Over the past decade, as electronic technologies have advanced and become more and more integrated into everyday life, studies are showing that electronic multitasking has not only brought along the persistent belief that one must learn to do many things at once, but... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Clifford Nass (2009) says, the research is almost unanimous, which is very rare in social science, and it says that people who chronically multitask show an enormous range of deficits. They re basically terrible at all sorts of cognitive tasks, including multitasking. Nass s statement is basically saying that although many studies have been conducted, the results are all fairly similar and they are all related closely. As society continues to develop and as electronicscontinue to develop, it is most likely that these issues that are currently being and have been studied will continue to take
  • 10. The Performance Of Sprinklers For Tunnel Protection Essay One of the early test programs to study the performance of sprinklers for tunnel protection was conducted in the Ofenegg tunnel in Switzerland in 1965. The tunnel was an old single track railway tunnel, 4 m wide at the base and 6 m high. Three fire sizes obtained with aircraft petrol fuel were used in the test with following specifications: (a) 100L and 6.6 m2 pool size; (b) 500 L and 47.5 m2 pool size; and (c) 1000 L and 95 m2 pool size. Two lines of sprinklers were installed on the ceiling of the tunnel. The water capacity was 19 L/(min m2). There was no information on the sprinkler system activation time. The fires developed very quickly during the tests and the maximum temperature was reached 1 to 2 minutes after ignition. Temperatures in the tunnel were quite high with maximum temperatures near the ceiling ranging from 1200 degree Celsius to 1400 degree Celsius prior to sprinkler activation. The sprinklers were able to extinguish all of the fires within a short period of time. But, a significant quantity of hot steam was obtained during fire suppression. Visibility was found to decrease because of hot steam and cooling of the smoke layer by the sprinklers discharge. Smoke and hot steam were pushed a considerable distance from the fire site, resulting in higher temperatures than without sprinklers at some locations in the tunnel. After the fire was extinguished, the fuel continuously evaporated with the vapour spreading along the tunnel. The vapour was re ignited in the
  • 11. Comparing Animal Animals Do you ever wonder if animals of different species ever act the same? If you say no then you re just like me. Two completely different animals who behave the same don t sound like a true possibility for most of us because we hardly see such quality played out. And if we do it s commonly viewed on a video we have found on the internet or a picture with caption of how a horse acts like a dogor something of the sort. The majority of the population have pets of their own at home, which we can say are the typical dog, cat and fish. I assume you may have guessed that I too have some of these animals as a pet; however I also have a pet that a great amount of people do not have a parrot. Yes that s right my pet parrot named chipsy. I have three dogs, two fish and one parrot. But the two that act alike are my Senegal parrot Chipsy and my Bishon mixed poodle named Princess. My dog Princess is the typical dog u have seen or heard of. Princess has white curly hair and is short and fat. Princess doesn t chirp, but obviously she barks. When someone s at the door her loud barks over ride Chipsys chirps and even though it does not lead to screams it does turn into howling. As soon as someone who she doesn t know walks in, all hell breaks loose. Princess and Chipsy both create chaos when there are people in the house. Hot desking is where employees either share a desk with others or are not assigned a permanent desk and must find one when needed. Hot desking arose as a strategy to save on space and to cater to the needs of employees who largely worked outside the office. Activity based work, by contrast, assumes all employees work flexibly and will seek out a range of different spaces to undertake different tasks. As such, these workspaces provide a range of work settings for different types of activities such as meetings, collaboration, private work, creativity and concentration. Employees are expected to switch between these settings as necessary. Proponents of activity based work claim that cost is not a major driver of its uptake. Rather, companies have implemented it to attract and retain talent and increase collaboration and innovation, employee wellbeing and sustainability. But plenty of research shows negative effects of shared desk workplaces. These negatives potentially outweigh the

It outlines what substance dependence is all about, which includes its symptoms, a theory to explain the phenomena and the South African perspective of the disorder. Substance Dependence is a behavioral and physiological phenomenon which happens after a person has been practicing substance use over a long period of time and the individual does this repeatedly (Austin, Botha, Du Plessis, Du Plessis, Jordaan, Lake, Moletsane, Nel, Pillay, Ure, Visser, Von Krosigk, Vorster, 2013). The book s writing techniques include imitating personal events Plath went through. One example of this is in the quote, I hate her , I said, and waited for the blow to fall. . That moment where Esther confided in her doctor this was a symbol of Sylvia Plath s hatred of her mother, Aurelia Plath. Esther had a horrible relationship with her mom, as did the troubled author in real life. Therefore, she included it in her novel. When young Sylvia was only eight, her father, Otto, tragically passed away. Enraged, she believed her father left her on purpose, and stopped believing God shortly after. It turned her whole life upside down, and it is thought that being stuck with her strict mother all those years fueled the fire in their rocky relationship. Eventually, she became obsessed with the hatred of Aurelia Plath, and based many books on her. More than often, she portrayed her mother as the evil protagonist in them. Moreover, her technique was displayed in the following, [The Rosenbergs execution] had nothing to do with me, but I couldn t help wondering what it would be like, being burned alive along your nerves . Esther often had suicidal thoughts, and believed that no one understood her, as if she was all alone in the huge city of New York. Tremendously depressed, she decided to take her own life. However, after she derived help from Dr. Nolan, she was able to procure a speedy recovery. Yet Esther s troubles were unmistakably inspired by the author, as Plath, too, was diagnosed with depression at a very early age. In fact, the novel, The Bell Jar , was written in the midst of an especially difficult time in her life, when her husband had an affair and left her, which forced Plath and

Political Correctness Vs Freedom Of Speech Political Correctness vs Freedom of Speech Political correctness is the idea that certain words, policies, or opinions are too offensive and taboo that they should be censored. While this definition may seem unfair, that is exactly what it is. This idea of being politically correct is on the rise in America, with various factions and sides taking advantage of it. Most notedly, it has taken effect in such areas such as the media, academia, and industry. In these areas, employees, students, or any subject in question may be put to the test of whether or not their views are in line with politically correct guidelines. In many of these incidents, the subject in question may be reprimanded, ostracized, or otherwise punished for their crimes of thought or expression. This is a hotly debated topic in America, with both sides of the debate passionately disputing the worth of such a thing. Due to its widespread influence, it is debated in nearly every aspect of American life. Some feel that is necessary, as it protects minorities, women, or any group that may be discriminated against from offense and or hateful speech . Others feel that it is a clear assault on freedom of speechand disproportionately punishes those for trivial comments or opinions where no true offense should be taken. In this essay, the clear and present danger that political correctness poses to our First Amendment right to freedom of speech and expression will be proven and explained in vivid

A fetus is less developed than a human baby, that much we can all agree on. Development changes as humans age, therefore, a toddler is less developed than an adult. Then, if a fetus can be ended, could not a toddler be also? For neither are fully developed human beings. Following that, one must determine whether the fetus environment really determines whether or not it is a human. One may say, the fetus is clearly not human until it is born. To that, I would ask, does location really change a human s personhood? Afterall, humans live in all different locations. A fetus is not human merely because it is inside of the mother. Next, we must look at the fetus degree of dependency. An argument commonly made is that the fetus could not be human as it is completely dependent upon the mother for survival. However, what they will not say is that along with the unborn, newborn and toddlers also depend on mother for survival. Leaving the three alone without any parental care would result in

Hamlet returns home after hearing of his father s death from studies in Wittenberg, not yet knowing the cause of his death. Neither man could have known the immense corruption and evil that awaited them at their destination, but both would quickly learn. Hamlet returns to Denmark to quickly find that a hasty incestuous marriage between his widowed mother and his uncle would all too quickly follow his own father s funeral. Perhaps the most significant sign that all was not right in Denmark was the apparition of the slain former King. From this first revelation, Hamlet learns by degrees of the evil that attempts to hide itself behind the legitimate passing on of the throne. Incidents In The Life Of A Slave Girl Is A Novel With A Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl is a novel with a clear and concise purpose: to convince white women, preferably with families, in the American Northern states to adopt, support, and advocate freedom for slaves in the Southern states. Harriet Jacobs, through her narrative of her own traumatizing experiences as a slave, brings to her desired readers a view into the world of slaverythat was not so commonplace: one that told of the true horrors slaves suffered not only in the hands of their slave masters, but through the systemic and widespread institution of slavery. In her accounts of slavery, Jacobs recounts the times in which the slave owner, under pretense or not, cared for the slave. In this vein, the incident pertaining to Aunt... The reader is introduced to the concept of ethical slavery at this very moment. Ethical slavery claims to be for the wellbeing and health and happiness of slaves, not for the greed of the slave and plantation owners. As Mrs. Flint and Martha mourn the death of Aunt Nancy (of course, for wildly different reasons), Dr. Flint attempts to manipulate Martha at her most vulnerable state, the death of her only remaining daughter, showcasing that his gain is above her most base humanity. Jacobs continuously sets and solidifies Dr. Flint as a truly evil, greedy, lustful, and sinful man corrupting Linda (Jacobs) even as an adolescent and setting the truest example of the extreme vices of slavery. One of the more telling accounts of this is the letter Miss Emily Flint s brother supposedly sends to Linda while she is a fugitive working in New York. This letter, written in the most compassionate language: we all sympathize with you in your unfortunate condition, The family will be rejoiced to see you, and Come home, could

Mencius vs. Confucius I think that Confucius was more correct in his views than Mencius, not because of differing views (although they did differ at certain points), but because of the way these ideas were carried out throughout his career, and ultimately, his life. Confucius was a Chinese thinker and philosopher. His philosophy emphasized personal and governmental morality, correctness of social relationships, and justice and sincerity. These values gained prominence in China over other doctrines, such as Taoism during the Han Dynasty. Confuciusthoughts have been developed into a system of philosophy which has come to be known as Confucianism. For example: When the stables were burnt down, on returning from court, Confucius said, Was anyone hurt? He did not ask about the horses (Analects, James Legge translation). The passage conveys the lesson that by not asking about the horses, Confucius demonstrated that a sage values humans over property. Readers of this lesson are led to think about whether their response would follow Confucius s, and to pursue self improvement if it would not. Confucius, a great example of human excellence, uses himself as the ultimate model, rather than a deity or a universally true set of abstract principles. For these reasons Confucius s teaching may be considered a Chinese example of humanism. Perhaps his most famous teaching was the Golden Rule stated in the negative form, often called the Silver Rule: Zi Gong (a disciple of Confucius) asked: Is there any one word that could guide a person throughout life? The Master replied: How about reciprocity: never impose on others what you would not choose for yourself? (Analects, David Hinton translation). Confucius s teachings were later turned into a long set of rules and practices by his numerous followers who organized his teachings into the Analects. In the centuries after his death, Mencius and Xun Zi both came up with important teachings expanding on the fundamentals associated with Confucius. In time, their writings, together with the Analects

This process is referred to as pruning, which simply stated means use it or lose it, when theses connections are not being used they disappear and deteriorate. The ability of the infant s brain to change in form and function is referred to as plasticity, this is important because although Genie was not taught as a child her brain was still able to adapt and engage to her new environment. Through this we encounter how Genie s brain was able to change throughout her new life and how the brain has this amazing ability that allows reorganization and the ability to form new connections. Little thought goes into to what effects; we actually have on nature and what consequences that has on our own nature. For this there is literature, which helps unravel human nature and explain what can result from this carelessness. Golding and Marquez highlight the negative impacts on human nature, through dialogue and setting. The authors want readers to believe, that there is more wrong doing in today s society, than there is good. To start out, at one point in everyone s life they have most likely wanted to be famous or be involved in leadership. Too much of this treatment may lead to greed, which is a downfall of human nature. Two authors Golding of, Lord of the Flies and Marquez of, I Only Came to Use the Phone , depict this through Jack and Maria. In Lord of the Flies, greed is shown through Jack believing that he should be leader, instead of Ralph. I ought to be chief, said Jack with simple arrogance... (Golding 22). This line proves that Jack is already not fit to take the throne; he is self centered and only cares about his position among the others.
