Monothelitism as Opposed to Dyothelitism
Monothelitism is a subject concerning Jesus having two natures but one will. The opposing, which is
commonly known as Dyothelitism, is the idea that Jesus has both two natures and two wills.
Monothelitism was a heresy that occurred during the 7th century. (Chapman) This controversy started
with Emperor Heraclius who wanted to unite people under one idea. With the help of Sergius of
Constantinople, they got Pope Honorius to agree with the idea that Christ had one energy. Pope
Honorius, however, was later condemned of heresy. Sophronius, a monk who lived in Palestine,
disagreed with the compromise that was made, he made it clear that he thought that Dyothelitism was
an important aspect of Christianity. In 638, the Emperor responded to Sophronius ideas with an edict
titled Exposition of the Faith which said that people were no longer permitted to discuss the matter,
and that Christ had one will. ( History of the Christian Church... ) There was support for this idea,
though there was resistance as well. Specifically, Maximus Confessor and Pope Martinus. These two
were very strong in their position of support for Dyothelitism. In 648, Emperor Constans II made an
edict titled Type that he hoped would create peace. The edict called for silence on the topic that was
being debated, and took a neutral view on the subject. The emperor was later informed that
Monothelitism had been declared a heresy. Constans II, in response to this, imprisoned the pope and
made sure he received

Ideology In The Selfish Giant, And The Bling Ring
In both the films we watched in class a large range of ideological perspectives were presented, and
those perspectives were largely based upon their director s views and opinions of the world. The two
films were The Selfish Giant directed by Clio Bernard, and The Bling Ring directed by Sophia
Coppola. Ideology is a very important concept in both films, and it can be defined as a systematic
body of ideas, attitudes, values and perspectives that help shape a particular culture or group within
that culture. Each director uses formal elements, and character values to show specific ideologies. In
The Bling Ring Sophia Coppla focuses on showing the life style that a group of corrupt teens so
desperately wants to live, and why the culture surrounding them is the reason for their corrupt values.
While the film The Selfish Giant highlights issues of working class people, and a culture that has put
children in a position where stealing to support ones family feels like doing the right thing. Select
characters in each film have a fascination with material things, and although they have very different
reasons for them the side effects they experience because of these fascinations are very similar. In The
Bling Ring the characters have a strong desire to acquire the most popular, and extravagant fashion
items; the motivation behind this desire is that they have learned base their self worth off the things
they own and nothing else. One of the main characters in the film Nick talks about

The Romantic Era was a literary movement that swept through virtually every country in the 18th
century that encompassed placing importance on the beauty of nature, passion of the imagination and
human emotions. The emphasis was on self expression and individual uniqueness whereas, society
should be driven by passionate emotions rather than strict confining rules and rituals. There was a
great interest in the mysteries of life, intuition and the pursuit of divine revelation whereas, the spirit
of God is present in all humans and animals. God made and loves all creatures great and small equally,

decreed my utter and terrible destruction (23). Victor s consequences or punishment for defying the
laws of nature and creating a monster was to become enslaved by the unnatural man and is forced to
watch his loved ones be murdered one by one, while he remains powerless to stop the horrible events.
The monster passionately seeks revenge against Victor for abandoning him when the world
completely rejects him. The monster exclaims, I am alone, and miserable; man will not associate with

A Brief Note On Mediates Contact Dependent Homophilic
Dscam:
Mediates contact dependent homophilic repulsion
Dscam diversity underlies a robust cellular recognition mechanism allowing dendrites to distinguish
between surfaces of different cells.
Main arguments is that Dscam mediated self avoidance is a general organizing mechanism operating
throughout Drosophila nervous system.
da neurons associate closely with the epidermis as they extend across the body wall; thus, their
dendrites create a two dimensional meshwork in which developing branches frequently encounter
other dendrites (different from CNS where axons and dendrites form 3D by interaction)
when deficient in Dscam function, individual dendrites do not recognize sister branches and fail to
initiate repulsion, leading to a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dscam is required for proper segregation of sister axon branches (Wang et al., 2002), and analogous to
the self avoidance control in da neurons, specific isoforms do not appear to provide instructive cues
for this segregation event. It has been argued that this reflects a role for Dscam in mediating self
recognition and repulsion between these axons
In da neurons, dendrite selfavoidance defects were separable from growth, branching, and targeting
errors and were fully penetrant. Thus, our data directly implicate Dscam in self avoidance and
demonstrate this role at the level of interactions between individual branches.
Mechanism:
identical Dscam ectodomains on the surfaces of isoneuronal dendrites recognize each other and induce
a subsequent repulsive signal that is mediated by domains in the cytoplasmic tail.
How: o First, identical Dscam isoforms expressed in two cell populations in vitro induced their
aggregation in an isoform specific manner, showing that Dscam provides cells with the ability to
distinguish between different cell surfaces. o Second, ectopic (in an abnormal place or position)
expression of identical Dscam isoforms on the dendrites of different cells, which normally overlap,
promoted growth away from each other.
From in vitro adhesion to in vivo repulsion
Our data suggest that the dendrites of da neurons convert an initial Dscam dependent cell surface
interaction into a repulsive response, which leads to dendrite separation and receptive

Essay on The Effect of Consumer Culture on Education
The Effect of Consumer Culture on Education Consumer culture has without a doubt affected my
education. Education involves many things we value, and much of what we value has been bought.
Whether it be the calculators we use in math class or the texts we read in English, commodities are
helping teach us to do things. On another level however , consumer culture affects our personal
education in that we act and think differently than we might if our culture was less about that which
can be bought or sold. Much of this is due to the coverage of events presented by the Mass Media. We

You can t be too shy because that is not desirable. Nor can you be too outspoken in class because then
you are classified in some way; after all if people hear what you have to say they can form an opinion
of you. So we search to find that happy medium displayed in the world we watch on our television.
I agree with Edmundson to some degree. Yes, consumer culture definitely affects the way most of us
see ourselves and want to be seen by others. After all, Enthusiasm…quickly looks absurd. The form
of character that s most appealing on TV is calmly self interested though never greedy, attuned to the
conventions, and ironic. This definitely resembles the character that I personally find desirable, and I
imagine many other people feel the same way. But I believe there is a point when people stop trying to
conform to an image because it is too much work, but Edmundson concludes that people are
constantly . I am noticing this more now that I am in college. In high school it seemed like more
people were stuck between being cool and being unique, not sure themselves which they wanted to be.
Now it seems those who are unique by nature stop trying to be like the normal and show their true
colors. I imagine this is true in the class room as well. Though some people may not talk a lot in the
classroom, I believe that the professor need only to read their papers

Bush, as well as our society, feels the president should be strong especially in international politics
and policies. When the United States was attacked September 11, 2001, the people looked to the
president to lead, and in essence, seek revenge. On both of these levels of domestic considerations, we
will never know to exactly what extent they influence the president s choice of action, but they help us
in understanding some of the foreign policy decisions. Going beyond the individual to the
expectations of the position, the role consideration plays an influential domestic part in the response to
an external event and ultimately foreign policymaking. Furthermore to do this, Bush s administration
has outlined some specific objectives. Allies are crucial to conduct foreign operations, so the Bush has
joined several international organizations that allow it to serve at the forefront of international policy.
Some of the more famous ones are the United Nations, which is the biggest organization and has

Specifically in this reaction the limiting reagent is Calcium Chloride, CaCl2 and the factor that will be
changed periodically in this reaction is the amount in grams of the Sodium Carbonate and Calcium
Chloride and if the experiment is right, as the mass of the limiting reagent Calcium Chloride increases
the mass of the reactant Calcium Carbonate will also increase, hence the percent yield of the product
will also increase. Sodium Carbonate and Calcium Chloride are two aqueous soluble salts and
between the reactions of these two soluble salts forms a precipitation of a single product, while the
other product stays in the state of a solution (aq). The meaning of this precipitation reaction is simple.
Since interchanging of the cations and anions of two aqueous solutions is happening, one if bound to

The Benefits of Seal Oil
Walking down the aisles of your local drugstore, you are bound to see rows and rows of supplements
and vitamins. Many would be curious about them and their touted super health benefits, but few
would actually spend the money to try one of these supplements. In some cultures, these supplements
are ingested as part of a daily, natural diet, leading researchers to find why these cultures have lower
instances of certain diseases. For example, villages in Northern Alaska have an incredibly low
instances of heart diseases, despite having predominantly fatty diets. Researchers have found this to be
due to a diet rich in fish and seal [8]. Because I am interested in village medicine in Alaska as a career,

Unsaturated fatty acids are characterized with having at least one carbon double bonded with another
carbon, losing the normal bond with hydrogen and the corresponding hydrogen. The number of double
bonds, hydrogens, and carbons differ in structure of different types of fatty acids and cause the
difference in function between the fatty acids. But even though most fatty acids are different from
each other due to structure and function, all unsaturated fatty acids do have some things in common.
They all enter the cell via the membrane and increase the fluidity of the plasma membrane, increasing
overall cell health, and they all form unsaturated fats [3]. Unsaturated fats are made up of many
different strands of different types of fatty acid. The type of unsaturated fatty acid I will be talking

The Rising House Costs On New Zealand
The rising house costs in New Zealand specific in Auckland are empowering more young experts to
search elsewhere for a stable job with higher wages. Conversely, we are losing highly skilled
Aucklanders to other regions in the country to pursue a better work life balance. The major concern
for the unaffordability of housing is creating a big issue to all Auckland based businesses as talented
employees moved away from the city to escape from the increasing cost of living. This will threaten
the vitality of many businesses or local organizations that rely on upon their talent. So because of this
house costs are moving up faster than the wages of employees therefore this implies that housing is
turning out to be less affordable. As indicated in an article by Nichol states that three quarters said
they had lost employees to other locations in New Zealand or overseas, nearly half of them moved to
Christchurch or Tauranga. Also many highly skilled people won t move or come to Auckland because
they won t able to afford living here (Nichol, 2016). The housing cost in Auckland was extremely
deterred in drawing in the middle income workers to Auckland city.
While on the opposite side of the scale a few organizations will wind up paying rewards to their staffs
so as to hold on to their employees from moving. A large portion of these organizations won t have the
capacity to offer flexible part time or full time employment because of the time it takes to commute

blindly, but wanted everything to be rationally proven. Society understood there was scientific reason

Second Messenger Research Paper
Second messengers and their actions
Second messengers are intracellular molecules that transmit received signs at receptors on the cell
surface to the target molecules. They also, expand strength of signals.
Second messenger are classified into three major classes:
1) Cyclic nucleotides.
2) Inositol triphosphate IP3 and diacylglycerol DAG.
3) Calcium ions Ca3+.
Common mechanism of second messenger system:
There are several different secondary messenger systems, but they all are quite similar in overall
mechanism, although the substances involved and overall effects can vary.
This conformation change can affect the activity of the receptor and result in the production of active
second messages.

All of the past acts of betrayal that Medea did was in the cause of Jason but he chooses to betray her

which will cost him more than his death no children to continue his heritage. This article helps me
understand more clearly about how Medea was convinced to do such a crime. She knew that if she had
to take her children with her during her exile, they had slim probability of survival. Also, if she left
them behind, they would not be safe as the royal family wouldn t like them after the death of princess.
Even if they were safe, they would be helping Jason grow his lineage through them. With them being

On Friday, September 7, 2001, 43 year old Jeff Immelt became GE s ninth CEO in its 109 year
history. Four days later, two planes crashed into the World Trade Center towers. In the turmoil that
followed, an already fragile post Internet bubble stock market dropped further, and the subsequent
downturn in the economy resulted in a drop in confidence that spread rapidly around the globe.
Despite his many efforts to tighten operations while continuing to grow the business, the new
CEO did not have an easy initiation as he tried to deal with the resulting economic downturn, the post
Enron suspicions of large corporations, and the growing global political instability. In 2002, after
promising that earnings would grow by double digits, Immelt had to report a modest 7% increase in
GE s profits on revenues that were up only 5% on the 2001 sales, which had declined 3% from the
prior year. (See Exhibit 1 for GE financials, 1996 2006.) By the end of 2002, GE s stock was trading
at
$24, down 39% from a year earlier and 60% from its all time high of $60 in August 2000. With
considerable understatement, Immelt said, This was not a great year to be a rookie CEO. 1

Public Television And Its Effect On Corporate Funding
Public is a Misnomer
Public television, as it exists now in the United States, is funded, in part, by corporations. In
discussion section 306 Joe mentioned that the Ford Motor Company is one of PBS big corporate
sponsors (2016). The very definition of public television is that the content is publicly funded;
whether through government grants, or public donations. A corporation stepping in to supply funding
ruins the sanctity of the public broadcasting, by taking the bias out of what is produced and how it is
produced. If PBS is in part funded by corporations, the whole idea of a publicly funded networks is
dead.
PBS was created in a time where the classic broadcast archetype was the only way television got
made. In the first week of class, Professor Johnson explained that the classic American network
television archetype relies on corporate funding in the form of advertisement sales (2016). A certain
amount of viewership of a given show, on a given night, can drive huge ad sales. The higher a show s
ratings, the bigger the ad sales. PBS combatted this archetype by attempting to produce content by
means of government grants and viewer donations.
The creation of over the top services like Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime, are shifting the way the
model works. Crawford defines over the top as a provider who makes video available over the internet
(112). The Nielsen Company tried to account for the DVR viewers, but with companies like Netflix

Balancing Ecosystems
Dear City Council: I am writing you concerning matters of restoring balance to the city s ecosystem.
An ecosystem is a factor in the biological community that consists of occurrences locally, chemical
factors, as well as physical, make up the environment non living or abiotic. The unbalanced ecosystem
in Sparksville s aquatic system is the situation at hand. The boundaries of this ecosystem are being
addressed for reasons having to do with the goal of restoring the lake back to normal. The invasions of
Grass Carp have made it almost impossible for the rest of the underwater community to be in
existence. The changes in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The leaves of the new plants can contain chemicals that add to the ecosystem problem in the lake.
Many more problems can occur within the environment, leaving animals are to feed off of the non
native harmful crops, and the chain will go on because humans feed off of animals. Ultimately the
entire community can be affected by this Carp problem. Keep in mind it is not the intent of the
invasive species to be invasive or they start off being invasive then the ecosystem will find a unique
way of bringing everything under control on its own. The ecosystem in town possesses many
mechanisms that it needs to keep the whole system equally balanced. The dynamics to help persons in
this city strive and restore include predation; the need to prey on other animals is how a species
survive, but it should be under control. Conditions and temperature play a large role as well. It is the
responsibility of the humans to control the conditions that come into the town by understanding the
animals and fish that come into the environment and lake. The environment needs the help and
support of the community to be successful. When everyone is working together and not against each
other things tend to come together easier because everyone is working towards the same goal and
objective. Prairie Dog Festival held each summer celebrates the community s environment awareness.
Sparksville is facing a hardship, and the goal is to get things back in order

Kidney Dialysis Machine
The University of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia has a kidney dialysis machine which can
serve the functions of a healthy kidney for patients with kidney disease. Kidney disease occurs when
the organ no longer functions and waste products begin to build up within the body. This disease can
lead to anemia, high blood pressure, and nerve damage. In the process of kidney dialysis, there are
catheters which are connected to veins through a vein graft which is attached to the tubes of the
dialysis machine. In essence, blood is simply being pumped into the machine where waste products
are filtered out. Then the clean blood is pumped back into our body through a vein graft. There are ten
possible candidates with chronic kidney disease who could potentially be granted access to the kidney
dialysis machine. There are only two time slots, so the candidates will be assessed according to
condition and other factors as to who is allowed to use the machine. I believe that Steve should be one

I can surely say that my senior year would not be nearly as enjoyable without the GURU program.
The ability to facilitate an engaging discussion with not one but two groups of freshmen at Christian

controversial subject topics with these freshmen, I put myself in a role model position, one to
influence positive decision making in order for these kids to make their own transition into Academy

Also, it definitely affects my worldview with God and my Christian morality in the context of a

as a liaison between these freshmen and the CBA faculty, staff, and family in order for them to
eventually transform themselves in their lives while keeping God as a major focus. By embracing my
own self value through Christian morality, I must also encourage these freshmen that they are valuable
because of their relationship with God in this LaSallian school, exemplifying the teachings of St. John
Baptist de La Salle. As an example, Peck States in The Road Less Traveled, this feeling of being
valuable is a cornerstone of self discipline because when one considers oneself valuable one will take
care of oneself in all ways that are necessary. Self discipline is self caring (Peck 24). Self discipline is
so important in my own life, and I look to teach the freshmen the importance of it as well. My own
relationship with God is one based on self caring, the petitioning for forgiveness and the constant
gratification that goes along with it. When it comes down to it, we all have the free will to believe

Management Study at a Library Essay examples
Introduction Management, as defined by Daft and Marcic, is the effective and efficient attainment of
organizational goals, through planning, organizing, leading and controlling organizational resources.
This community service organizational study has allowed our group to extend our learning outside the

West Branches, which are managed by the West LA Library Branch Manager. This manager receives
orders and guidelines to follow from the head office. Next in the line of command, is the head
librarian. The head librarian is responsible to the West Branch manager. Within the library itself and
helping the head librarian, are four other librarians. Each librarian is in charge of ordering and locating
books, outreach programs and reading circles. Underneath them are the clerks. The clerks are assigned
to a particular librarian to take care of daily tasks such as counting the cash, checking return boxes and
deliveries, and reshelving books. Finally, the lowest in the task force are the messenger clerks, who
are part time employees who also work with particular librarians. Each position is assigned specific
tasks and assignments. The workplace is best represented by the New Workplace, which offers flatter,
more diverse and team centralized management. In terms of management, the head librarian serves as
a better leader by facilitating self management with better and more open communication lines. The
communication is two sided and the head librarian when delegating tasks is very responsive and
provides an open environment where questioned are welcomed. There is also strong team association
built into the structure.

Langston Hughes, Prolific Writer Of Black Pride During...
During a time where racism was at its height in America, Jim Crow laws separated blacks from
mainstream white society. Where the notion of separate but equal was widely accepted in America,
blacks were faced with adversity that they had to overcome in a race intolerant society. They were
forced to face a system that compromised their freedom and rights. Blacks knew that equal was never
equal and separate was definitely separate (George 8 9). Blacks had to fight for their rights because it
wasn t handed to them. Racism manifested itself on many levels and had to be fought on many levels.
This gave rise to influential black leaders in the fight for civil rights. Langston Hughes was one of

hope and pride in the black community during the time of segregation? Did Hughes ever think a

direction in black literature and arts. He urges black intellectuals and artists to break away from the
standards that the white society set for them. Hughes emphasized the theme that black is beautiful and
that we should not be afraid to be ourselves. The first paragraph within The Negro Artist and the

Fast Food Public Relation Blunders
Introduction
Fast Food can be defined as quickly made food that is sold in restaurants as a quick meal or to be
taken out. The first fast food restaurants came around the 1920 s and have since then, blown up to be
its own part of American Culture. Chances are, if you live in the United States there is a fast food
restaurant within a mile of your house. As the century progressed these fast food restaurants expanded
to countless countries across the world becoming a big part of peoples everyday lives. Since there are
countless fast food franchises selling generally the same products, the market is extremely
competitive. Fast Food franchises participate in aggressive marketing and are always trying to stay in
the good graces of the public eye. One slip up and chances are they are going to lose a vast amount of
business. As much as they try though there is no possible way they would be able to anticipate some
of the public relations blunders that occur especially in an age where there are eyes everywhere in the
form of cameras and social media. One of the biggest public relations disasters in recent memory
involved the fast food pizza delivery franchise Domino s and another more recently involving
Starbucks.

Vitro Fertilization Vs. Sterile Parents
In Vitro Fertilization is technology that is used to fertilize a female s eggs by a male s sperm outside of
the body, usually in a test tube: in vitro ( in glass ). From here, the embryos are put back into the
woman s uterus in the hopes of a successful pregnancy with the outcome of a healthy baby. This
assisted reproductive technology is a center of controversy between many. About 5% of couples living
in the United States and other parts of the world considered developed experience infertility (Becker,
Gay). While this type of fertilization has the ability to give opportunities at parenthood, the cons
outweigh the pros. Although infertile or sterile parents are given a chance at a family using these

Being able to create a child by simply signing a waiver has been viewed as unethical. Another concern
involves the thought that In Vitro Fertilization would conclusively destroy our overall perspective of
what people see as the typical family Cahn, Naomi R). Many believed that the traditional marriage
followed by starting a family, would be replaced by laboratory breeding. Conservatives feared the
creation of these non traditional families, feminists were concerned that the pressure on women to
bear children would increase significantly. Still others, worried that these lab babies would be socially
rejected and considered outcasts. While this treatment has been known to help those unable to fertilize
their children naturally such as same sex couples, single mothers, and the infertile, many across the
country and around the world remain skeptical (Goldworth, Amnon). With In Vitro Fertilization comes
the high chance of giving birth to multiples or having an ectopic pregnancy. After paying upwards of
$15,000, many parents are not in the financial position to pay for multiple children (Mann, Mali).

A Brief Biography of Kanye West
College Dropout was Kanye West s debut album and in my opinion was his best yet. The album cover
features Kanye West in a bear costume sitting on some wooden bleachers surrounded by a rustic
cherub ridden, floral boarder. This image stands out to me in a lot of good ways. I like the boarder a

Kanye says that the album cover is meant to say that people do not always have to follow what society

rebellious album and attitude towards the world and its institutions. Kanye had a lot of help from Eric
Duvauchelle who is now a design director at Nike. Kanye West was in a car accident in October of
two thousand and three. This very serious accident motivated him to become a world star rapper
because at the time he was only a producer in Chicago but had worked on some very famous peoples
records such as Jay Z. I really like the cover because it is elegant, classy, and it says a lot about him
bursting onto the rap scene in a not so typical manner.
Before he made a name for himself in the rap community, Kanye was in school at the American

Short Term Incentive Pay System
Short Term Incentive Pay
A survey report for publicly traded companies administered by WorldatWork found that 99 percent of
the 350 companies had some form of short term incentive pay system in place (Miller, 2014). Short
term incentive pay compensates employees for achieving short term business goals that are typically a
year or less. These goals can depend on factors such as the type of business, its specific strategy, and
market conditions to name a few. Metrics for short term incentive plans can include financial metrics
like revenue growth and profit maximization as well as non financial metrics specific to the company,
such as safety or quality assurance, customer satisfaction, and more (Fotsch Case, 2015). Short term
incentives normally reflect a percentage of the employee s salary or wage; there are threshold, target,
and maximum levels that can be achieved providing different levels of compensation based on
outcome. Short term incentive pay can involve individual employee performance, or group company
wide performance. Some examples of short term incentive pay include merit pay, bonus pay, and
profit/gain sharing. Understanding the specific processes and benefits of these types of short term
incentives allows employers to choose which plan saves the company the most money in terms of
productivity and reduction of turnover.

The And Its Effects On Society And The Corporate Environment
The need to punish undesirable behavior dates back to the earliest settlements and societies of
humankind (Meehan, 2010). By analyzing societal reasons for punishment, and relating them to the
corporate environment, the utility of punishment can be determined. One common reason in society
for punishment is revenge (Wood, 2003). In society, revenge could be construed as an extension of the
eye for an eye philosophy, which arguably has very little utility in both society and the corporate
environment (Wood, 2003). However, in the industrial environment, if there was an accident that
caused extensive damage to equipment, insurance should cover the cost. Revenge would be pointless
in the corporate environment (Wood, 2003). Another reason society has to punish is for the protection
of society. There are many reasons a person can prove themselves to be a danger to society, and with
government regulations for various industries, a case can be made for employee misconduct to warrant
a need to protect society, but those instances can be few and far between, relatively speaking (Wood,
2003). An example of society punishing someone to protect society would be in the case of murder. A
murderer walking free could be detrimental to the safety of citizens, so punishment becomes a method
to protect society from the murderer. Likewise, in the workplace, a person who willfully makes
reckless decisions may also warrant punishment. For example, substance abuse while operating

In the article Gunsmithing Requires Innovation Paul Mazan has a customer come to him with hopes of

have Franks Firearms printed on the side of your shotguns. This proved to be all but helpful when
finding replacement parts for this antique project.
The thing about F. Dumoulin though, was that the company shut its doors and went out of business in
1903. Of course, this meant finding original parts for the gun would be nearly impossible. As a

How Nikki Is Important to The Woman in the Dunes
How Nikki is important to the novel The Woman in the Dunes
The novel Woman in the Dunes, written by Kobo Abe the protagonist Nikki Jumpei is a key figure in
developing the three main themes, alienation, impotency, and submission. Nikki Jempei is used to
develop the theme of alienation because he experiences alienation and he also alienates others. Nikki s
role in shaping the theme of impotency is important because without Nikki there would be no way of
weaving the theme into the novel. Another theme that Nikki is crucial in developing is the theme of
submission. His role in shaping these themes are what makes the novel complete. Nikki does not fit in
with the social norms of society. He is not a popular individual at his workplace and he does not seem
to have many friends. He is put into a situation that shows how alienated he is from the world.

Dropping Out For Social Activism
The challenges that face college students today are vastly different from those in previous generations.
Tuition at Michigan in 1960 cost less than $150 per semester. That left students who earned their
degree move on to become contributing members of society without the burden of student loans
weighing them down.
Students today, however even those who hold two part time jobs fall tens of thousands of dollars into
debt, a burden that limits their career choices. Dropping out for social activism brings competitive
disadvantage. The speedup of academic pressures dries up discretionary time that used to go to
dreaming and exploring. Campuses are crowded with scrambling multitaskers for the most part too
busy to protest the pace. Meanwhile, increases in the cost of college exceed inflation every year,
intensifying the squeeze.
We had different grievances. The curriculum was often irrelevant to the social crisis we perceived
ourselves inheriting; it needed reform. Students were powerless under the paternal doctrine of in loco
parentis; we wanted rights. Students were disenfranchised, even though men could be drafted; we
needed the vote and alternatives to the draft. Structurally excluded, we went to the streets, to the
outside, demanding change on the inside. It s an exaggeration, but only after strikes, rioting, and
taking over buildings did colleges offer the mainstream menu of women s studies; black, Latino and
Asian studies; queer studies; and environmental programs that

This theory reading has taken a different approach compared to the first theory reading. As some
readings like to dive into the make up behind a photograph, the second theory reading looked at the
camera and by using this camera what it can inform. Susan Sontag talks about how in today s world
and the past, how everything has been photographed. Photography was a way to escape what was
going on around us. Once the photo was taken, Sontag has stated it guaranteed the photo longevity, if
not immortality (Sontag). She then dives into the difference between paintings and movies compared
to what photographs display. Paintings and movie can lose some of the quality while a photograph

It is amazing how we can fully trust a photograph simply because it gives you second hand encounter
of what was going on. In today s world, I find it amazing that this proof can actually be tampered with.
Thinking about the artists who are experts in changing certain photographs, they could easily change a
photograph to show a different aspect which occurred. A photograph passes for incontrovertible proof
that a given thing happened (Sontag). If an individual has committed a crime, all the police need is a
photograph or a film which shows the individual clearly and they will face the crime fully. The
increase in technology is a positive and a negative. The idea of people who are experts in the new
technology changing the photograph thus changing the idea of the photograph is the only negative
from this idea of using photographs as evidence. We love to take photographs as much as we can, if

A Summary Of Olympia By Edouard Manet
Known as one of the most controversial artists in his time, Edouard Manet had suffered rejection and
endured a great deal of adversity for his unconventional style and his choice of subjects in his
paintings, barely dressed women. When Manet s Olympia was revealed in 1865, it shocked critics for
its subject, a nude woman. The question I ask in this instance is, why was this painting in particular
seen so controversial and shocking?, What makes this painting so different to others that have come
before it?. There is a long tradition of female nude being represented in beautiful, erotic way, what
makes this a stand out?
What we can take from the painting at first glance is: The model in the painting itself is leaning
upright on a bed, naked, with only an Orchid in her hair, a ribbon tied around her neck, a bangle and
some slippers on. A hand maid is standing by her holding a bouquet of flowers while a little black cat
is sitting at the end of the bed. If we look and put thought into what we are looking at, we can gather a
refined understanding of why this painting stands out. One of the many reasons why the public
disfavoured this painting was simply its painting style, the public thought its painting application was
very rough and botched, the painting even seemed unfinished to some. How Olympia herself was
painted came under fire too, Her flesh tones look washed out and one dimensional, there is no realistic
shading transitions within the painting. The composition of

Italian American Reputation Play Analysis
On the thirtieth of October, I went to watch the play Italian American Reconciliation. The time of era
of this play was in the late 1980s in Little Italy, New York. In this play, the characters makeup was a
little different from the actors of the first play I watched, Anna in the Tropics. Instead of their faces
being plain and simple, these actors had more color to their face, especially for the females. The males
had average natural makeup where the females had some fun playing with addition colors. The
character Teresa had wore a thin liner with extremely dark brows and a nice red lip color. As for Aunt
May, she had more of a dramatic look with thick liner with a load of eyeshadow and load of blush and
contour to define her face along with

The Effect Of Neighborhood Environment On Birth Outcomes
This article sought to assess the effect of neighborhood environment on birthweight and the potential
mediation by psychosocial, behavioral, and biological factors. Authors provided the reasoning for their
study by indicating that the effect of neighborhood on birth outcomes has been well documented in the
literature, still the mechanism by which neighborhood context affects these outcomes was not clear.
Their review of the literature was very comprehensive in that it covered many aspects related to the
complex relationships between neighborhood context and birth outcomes. However, they only briefly
commented on the potential protective effect of racial segregation on birth outcomes; a possibility that
has been documented in the literature ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Authors did a good job adjusting for individual socioeconomic variables, although there is still the
challenge that some of these variables (e.g., income and education) could be mediators and not
confounders. They used validated tools to measure stress, though, it measures daily life stressors that
are less likely to be influenced by neighborhood context. Ascertainment of exposure to drugs was well
done, while smoking and alcohol consumption were self reported during the postpartum interview and
thus prone to recall bias.
As in many similar multi level analyses, this study suffered from the crude measures of neighborhood
exposures by using census tracts indicators (4). Neighborhood characteristics were retrieved from the
1990 U.S. Census. Thus, they may inaccurately represent neighborhood context during the relevant
time period (1995 1996), as it is possible that these characteristics may have changed over time. One
methodological barrier in neighborhood studies is the correlation between neighborhood variables (5).
To overcome this barrier, they summarized the four indicators (% black, % poverty, violent crime rate,
and % boarded up housing) into one index variable. While this approach is methodologically correct,
it became difficult to understand which aspects of neighborhood context affected the outcome, which
limited the relevance of study findings to real life

An Analysis Of The Dominion Board Game Essay
An Analysis of the Dominion Board Game
Dominion is a deck building game playable by 2 4 players that will take approximately half an hour.
Players compete against each other in a multilateral competition where the player with the most
victory points at the end of the game wins.
The game begins with ten (usually random) piles of resource cards being laid on the playing
area/table, along with the treasure, victory and other various cards. Each player is given an initial 10
cards as their starting deck (a.k.a. their Dominion ) and they each draw 5 cards as their starting hand.
They then take turns playing cards from their hands according to the cards instructions, and acquiring
new cards from the piles in the middle while trying to improve their dominion. Each turn players draw
5 more cards and once their deck gets depleted they re shuffle their discarded cards back into it. The
game ends after any 3 piles of resource cards have been depleted or when the province victory cards
have been depleted. The core gameplay revolves around each player using cards in their hands that
they have drawn from their deck to acquire additional resources, sabotage other players or bring the
game closer to the end (or a combination of these). The games core mechanic is building (it is a deck
building game after all) since you spend the whole game growing and expanding your deck. Dominion
also features emergent gameplay, since although most of Dominions cards have very basic rules (such

What Was The Impact Of The Great Awakening
Throughout the course of human history, religious movements have been a reoccuring theme, from the
Chartist movement to the advent of scientology. They are brought about by a variety of reasons, and
no reason is completely determining of how the movement affected the people around it more than
another. By 1763, with the end of the Seven Years War, liberal political ideas such as republicanism
and liberalism were taking root in the colonists mind; what these two philosophies shared most in
common was that they were breaking away from the conventional political jurisdiction. Thus, this
brought about a wave of anti secularization in which the already ultra religious colonists became even
more religious in a movement known as the Great Awakening. ... Show more content on

A key aspect that caused the American Revolution was people not only losing faith in their mother
country of England, but not caring to obey the rules and laws that England imposed upon them,
causing a lack of respect for England s authority. This was brought about by the Navigation Acts, but
also by the ideals that were brought about in the Great Awakening. People started becoming more bold
and revolutionary, rethinking everything that they held to be true. There were certain political concepts
that criticized the social hierarchies of colonial society, and eventually, this led to criticizing religious
norms, which led to criticizing norms of all kinds, from what religion meant to oneself to how much
authority of a government overseas really possessed over the colonists. However, the Great
Awakening, while doing many benefits, also lead to some consequences for certain groups. The
church and its associated clergy became less important as people started to believe that they could rely
on their own beliefs. Colonists had their own religious power right in their hands, rather than in the
hands of the Church of England. Traditional authority and everything a colonist took to believe was
true was suddenly being

Analysis Of Pink Floyd s The Wall
break the shackles, but the fight club formed a new frame to limit them. Meanwhile, Jack created a
new me to improve his life and the dissatisfied world, but Taylor controlled Jack s life, in other words,
Jack fell into a world which is created by others, he seems has a normal life but was bound by life. In
fact, Jack and Taylor are the same one because Taylor is another personality which is the idealism
personality of Jake, but Jack is a weak materialist, and Taylor is a powerful idealist. Jack killed the
Taylor, so he destroyed the Utopia, and ultimately return to real world. On the other hand, Pink Floyd
s album The Wall also reflect similar idea. The whole album has a clear story line, there are several
songs, which is Another Brick in the Wall, Pt. 1, 2 , Mother , and Empty Spaces , talk about something
happened in Pink such as Pink s father s dead, overprotective mother, tormented at school, and wife s
betrayed which created the wall and isolated Pink from the outside; however, the wall is not all created
by external factors, Loneliness is like a spiritual wall as a invisible limitation, and the wall is
accumulated by all stages of life, which is not transferred by individual will. Pink s enclosed thoughts
make the Wall indestructible which limit his behavior, until the last song Outside The Wall , Pink
breaks the wall and go outside. The similarity between Fight Club and The Wall is both internal and

  • 2. Monothelitism as Opposed to Dyothelitism Monothelitism is a subject concerning Jesus having two natures but one will. The opposing, which is commonly known as Dyothelitism, is the idea that Jesus has both two natures and two wills. Monothelitism was a heresy that occurred during the 7th century. (Chapman) This controversy started with Emperor Heraclius who wanted to unite people under one idea. With the help of Sergius of Constantinople, they got Pope Honorius to agree with the idea that Christ had one energy. Pope Honorius, however, was later condemned of heresy. Sophronius, a monk who lived in Palestine, disagreed with the compromise that was made, he made it clear that he thought that Dyothelitism was an important aspect of Christianity. In 638, the Emperor responded to Sophronius ideas with an edict titled Exposition of the Faith which said that people were no longer permitted to discuss the matter, and that Christ had one will. ( History of the Christian Church... ) There was support for this idea, though there was resistance as well. Specifically, Maximus Confessor and Pope Martinus. These two were very strong in their position of support for Dyothelitism. In 648, Emperor Constans II made an edict titled Type that he hoped would create peace. The edict called for silence on the topic that was being debated, and took a neutral view on the subject. The emperor was later informed that Monothelitism had been declared a heresy. Constans II, in response to this, imprisoned the pope and made sure he received ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ideology In The Selfish Giant, And The Bling Ring In both the films we watched in class a large range of ideological perspectives were presented, and those perspectives were largely based upon their director s views and opinions of the world. The two films were The Selfish Giant directed by Clio Bernard, and The Bling Ring directed by Sophia Coppola. Ideology is a very important concept in both films, and it can be defined as a systematic body of ideas, attitudes, values and perspectives that help shape a particular culture or group within that culture. Each director uses formal elements, and character values to show specific ideologies. In The Bling Ring Sophia Coppla focuses on showing the life style that a group of corrupt teens so desperately wants to live, and why the culture surrounding them is the reason for their corrupt values. While the film The Selfish Giant highlights issues of working class people, and a culture that has put children in a position where stealing to support ones family feels like doing the right thing. Select characters in each film have a fascination with material things, and although they have very different reasons for them the side effects they experience because of these fascinations are very similar. In The Bling Ring the characters have a strong desire to acquire the most popular, and extravagant fashion items; the motivation behind this desire is that they have learned base their self worth off the things they own and nothing else. • 7. A Brief Note On Mediates Contact Dependent Homophilic Dscam: Mediates contact dependent homophilic repulsion Dscam diversity underlies a robust cellular recognition mechanism allowing dendrites to distinguish between surfaces of different cells. Main arguments is that Dscam mediated self avoidance is a general organizing mechanism operating throughout Drosophila nervous system. da neurons associate closely with the epidermis as they extend across the body wall; thus, their dendrites create a two dimensional meshwork in which developing branches frequently encounter other dendrites (different from CNS where axons and dendrites form 3D by interaction) when deficient in Dscam function, individual dendrites do not recognize sister branches and fail to initiate repulsion, leading to a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dscam is required for proper segregation of sister axon branches (Wang et al., 2002), and analogous to the self avoidance control in da neurons, specific isoforms do not appear to provide instructive cues for this segregation event. It has been argued that this reflects a role for Dscam in mediating self recognition and repulsion between these axons In da neurons, dendrite selfavoidance defects were separable from growth, branching, and targeting errors and were fully penetrant. Thus, our data directly implicate Dscam in self avoidance and demonstrate this role at the level of interactions between individual branches. Mechanism: identical Dscam ectodomains on the surfaces of isoneuronal dendrites recognize each other and induce a subsequent repulsive signal that is mediated by domains in the cytoplasmic tail. How: o First, identical Dscam isoforms expressed in two cell populations in vitro induced their aggregation in an isoform specific manner, showing that Dscam provides cells with the ability to distinguish between different cell surfaces. o Second, ectopic (in an abnormal place or position) expression of identical Dscam isoforms on the dendrites of different cells, which normally overlap, promoted growth away from each other. From in vitro adhesion to in vivo repulsion Our data suggest that the dendrites of da neurons convert an initial Dscam dependent cell surface interaction into a repulsive response, which leads to dendrite separation and receptive ... Bush, as well as our society, feels the president should be strong especially in international politics and policies. When the United States was attacked September 11, 2001, the people looked to the president to lead, and in essence, seek revenge. On both of these levels of domestic considerations, we will never know to exactly what extent they influence the president s choice of action, but they help us in understanding some of the foreign policy decisions. Going beyond the individual to the expectations of the position, the role consideration plays an influential domestic part in the response to an external event and ultimately foreign policymaking. Furthermore to do this, Bush s administration has outlined some specific objectives. Allies are crucial to conduct foreign operations, so the Bush has joined several international organizations that allow it to serve at the forefront of international policy. Some of the more famous ones are the United Nations, which is the biggest organization and has many sub level organizations, the World Trade Organization, the World Health Organization, the International Monetary Fund, and the World Bank Group (Directory of Economic, Commodity and Developmental Organizations). Sodium Carbonate and Calcium Chloride are two aqueous soluble salts and between the reactions of these two soluble salts forms a precipitation of a single product, while the other product stays in the state of a solution (aq). The meaning of this precipitation reaction is simple. Since interchanging of the cations and anions of two aqueous solutions is happening, one if bound to produce and insoluble salt, which is specifically insoluble in water, hence, this results in a precipitate. Stoichiometry is the process that gives the information about the amount of various elements involved in a reaction (EM). Many would be curious about them and their touted super health benefits, but few would actually spend the money to try one of these supplements. Conversely, we are losing highly skilled Aucklanders to other regions in the country to pursue a better work life balance. The major concern for the unaffordability of housing is creating a big issue to all Auckland based businesses as talented employees moved away from the city to escape from the increasing cost of living. This will threaten the vitality of many businesses or local organizations that rely on upon their talent. So because of this house costs are moving up faster than the wages of employees therefore this implies that housing is turning out to be less affordable. As indicated in an article by Nichol states that three quarters said they had lost employees to other locations in New Zealand or overseas, nearly half of them moved to Christchurch or Tauranga. • 21. Public Television And Its Effect On Corporate Funding Public is a Misnomer Public television, as it exists now in the United States, is funded, in part, by corporations. In discussion section 306 Joe mentioned that the Ford Motor Company is one of PBS big corporate sponsors (2016). The very definition of public television is that the content is publicly funded; whether through government grants, or public donations. A corporation stepping in to supply funding ruins the sanctity of the public broadcasting, by taking the bias out of what is produced and how it is produced. If PBS is in part funded by corporations, the whole idea of a publicly funded networks is dead. PBS was created in a time where the classic broadcast archetype was the only way television got made. In the first week of class, Professor Johnson explained that the classic American network television archetype relies on corporate funding in the form of advertisement sales (2016). A certain amount of viewership of a given show, on a given night, can drive huge ad sales. The higher a show s ratings, the bigger the ad sales. PBS combatted this archetype by attempting to produce content by means of government grants and viewer donations. The creation of over the top services like Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime, are shifting the way the model works. Sterile Parents In Vitro Fertilization is technology that is used to fertilize a female s eggs by a male s sperm outside of the body, usually in a test tube: in vitro ( in glass ). From here, the embryos are put back into the woman s uterus in the hopes of a successful pregnancy with the outcome of a healthy baby. This assisted reproductive technology is a center of controversy between many. About 5% of couples living in the United States and other parts of the world considered developed experience infertility (Becker, Gay). Being able to create a child by simply signing a waiver has been viewed as unethical. Another concern involves the thought that In Vitro Fertilization would conclusively destroy our overall perspective of what people see as the typical family Cahn, Naomi R). Many believed that the traditional marriage followed by starting a family, would be replaced by laboratory breeding. Conservatives feared the creation of these non traditional families, feminists were concerned that the pressure on women to bear children would increase significantly. Still others, worried that these lab babies would be socially rejected and considered outcasts. While this treatment has been known to help those unable to fertilize their children naturally such as same sex couples, single mothers, and the infertile, many across the country and around the world remain skeptical (Goldworth, Amnon). With In Vitro Fertilization comes the high chance of giving birth to multiples or having an ectopic pregnancy. After paying upwards of $15,000, many parents are not in the financial position to pay for multiple children (Mann, Mali). Currently, she is attempting to take on the role of President, to unify and stabilise Somalia. There are eighteen candidates (she is the only female) for the up coming election in Somalia this month, and Dayib will oppose the current president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. Accused of becoming dictatorial, Sheikh Mohamud has had a history of silencing free press ad making constitutional breaches. Resolving Somalia s political problems also encompass corruption in government. To do this would combat any dependence on the Al Shabaab, an Islamic militant group, which had controlled a lot of the region. • 33. A Brief Biography of Kanye West College Dropout was Kanye West s debut album and in my opinion was his best yet. The album cover features Kanye West in a bear costume sitting on some wooden bleachers surrounded by a rustic cherub ridden, floral boarder. This image stands out to me in a lot of good ways. I like the boarder a lot and I think baby angels are very cute and are meant to symbolize Kanyes art school back round. Kanye says that the album cover is meant to say that people do not always have to follow what society thinks that they should. The drop out bear mascot he named himself and is supposed to iconize this rebellious album and attitude towards the world and its institutions. Kanye had a lot of help from Eric Duvauchelle who is now a design director at Nike. Kanye West was in a car accident in October of two thousand and three. This very serious accident motivated him to become a world star rapper because at the time he was only a producer in Chicago but had worked on some very famous peoples records such as Jay Z. I really like the cover because it is elegant, classy, and it says a lot about him bursting onto the rap scene in a not so typical manner. Before he made a name for himself in the rap community, Kanye was in school at the American Academy of Art, where he had gotten a scholarship to study visual art. He dropped out when he realized that he would never be one of the great visual artists of the world and didn t want to end up working for an advertising agency. This idea was a good ... The author s choice of the title, wallflower, is accurate for Charlie tends to sit back and watch people go about their lives instead of participating because he does not know how to approach people. • 36. Short Term Incentive Pay System Short Term Incentive Pay A survey report for publicly traded companies administered by WorldatWork found that 99 percent of the 350 companies had some form of short term incentive pay system in place (Miller, 2014). Short term incentive pay compensates employees for achieving short term business goals that are typically a year or less. These goals can depend on factors such as the type of business, its specific strategy, and market conditions to name a few. Metrics for short term incentive plans can include financial metrics like revenue growth and profit maximization as well as non financial metrics specific to the company, such as safety or quality assurance, customer satisfaction, and more (Fotsch Case, 2015). Short term incentives normally reflect a percentage of the employee s salary or wage; there are threshold, target, and maximum levels that can be achieved providing different levels of compensation based on outcome. Short term incentive pay can involve individual employee performance, or group company wide performance. Some examples of short term incentive pay include merit pay, bonus pay, and profit/gain sharing. Understanding the specific processes and benefits of these types of short term incentives allows employers to choose which plan saves the company the most money in terms of productivity and reduction of turnover. • 37. The And Its Effects On Society And The Corporate Environment The need to punish undesirable behavior dates back to the earliest settlements and societies of humankind (Meehan, 2010). By analyzing societal reasons for punishment, and relating them to the corporate environment, the utility of punishment can be determined. One common reason in society for punishment is revenge (Wood, 2003). In society, revenge could be construed as an extension of the eye for an eye philosophy, which arguably has very little utility in both society and the corporate environment (Wood, 2003). However, in the industrial environment, if there was an accident that caused extensive damage to equipment, insurance should cover the cost. Revenge would be pointless in the corporate environment (Wood, 2003). Another reason society has to punish is for the protection of society. There are many reasons a person can prove themselves to be a danger to society, and with government regulations for various industries, a case can be made for employee misconduct to warrant a need to protect society, but those instances can be few and far between, relatively speaking (Wood, 2003). An example of society punishing someone to protect society would be in the case of murder. A murderer walking free could be detrimental to the safety of citizens, so punishment becomes a method to protect society from the murderer. Likewise, in the workplace, a person who willfully makes reckless decisions may also warrant punishment. For example, substance abuse while operating ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To be exact, it was a Belgian Damascus barreled shotgun made by F. Dumoulin. Back in those times the gun manufacturers would sometimes print any name the customer wanted on the firearms. For example, if you owned Frank s Great Hardware, you could have Franks Firearms printed on the side of your shotguns. This proved to be all but helpful when finding replacement parts for this antique project. The thing about F. Dumoulin though, was that the company shut its doors and went out of business in 1903. How Nikki Is Important to The Woman in the Dunes How Nikki is important to the novel The Woman in the Dunes The novel Woman in the Dunes, written by Kobo Abe the protagonist Nikki Jumpei is a key figure in developing the three main themes, alienation, impotency, and submission. Nikki Jempei is used to develop the theme of alienation because he experiences alienation and he also alienates others. Nikki s role in shaping the theme of impotency is important because without Nikki there would be no way of weaving the theme into the novel. Another theme that Nikki is crucial in developing is the theme of submission. His role in shaping these themes are what makes the novel complete. Nikki does not fit in with the social norms of society. He is not a popular individual at his workplace and he does not seem to have many friends. He is put into a situation that shows how alienated he is from the world. Because he is already alienated emotionally from society when Kobo Abe puts Nikki into a situation where he becomes both emotionally and physically alienated from the world. He is put into a situation where he is being isolated from any other environment other than the sand dunes. In the sand dunes he is in a worn down house that is covered in sand and there is literally no way for him to interact with anyone but the woman. • 40. Dropping Out For Social Activism The challenges that face college students today are vastly different from those in previous generations. Tuition at Michigan in 1960 cost less than $150 per semester. That left students who earned their degree move on to become contributing members of society without the burden of student loans weighing them down. Students today, however even those who hold two part time jobs fall tens of thousands of dollars into debt, a burden that limits their career choices. Dropping out for social activism brings competitive disadvantage. The speedup of academic pressures dries up discretionary time that used to go to dreaming and exploring. Campuses are crowded with scrambling multitaskers for the most part too busy to protest the pace. Meanwhile, increases in the cost of college exceed inflation every year, intensifying the squeeze. We had different grievances. The curriculum was often irrelevant to the social crisis we perceived ourselves inheriting; it needed reform. Students were powerless under the paternal doctrine of in loco parentis; we wanted rights. Students were disenfranchised, even though men could be drafted; we needed the vote and alternatives to the draft. Structurally excluded, we went to the streets, to the outside, demanding change on the inside. It s an exaggeration, but only after strikes, rioting, and taking over buildings did colleges offer the mainstream menu of women s studies; black, Latino and Asian studies; queer studies; and environmental programs that ... Susan Sontag talks about how in today s world and the past, how everything has been photographed. Photography was a way to escape what was going on around us. Once the photo was taken, Sontag has stated it guaranteed the photo longevity, if not immortality (Sontag). A photograph passes for incontrovertible proof that a given thing happened (Sontag). • 42. A Summary Of Olympia By Edouard Manet Known as one of the most controversial artists in his time, Edouard Manet had suffered rejection and endured a great deal of adversity for his unconventional style and his choice of subjects in his paintings, barely dressed women. When Manet s Olympia was revealed in 1865, it shocked critics for its subject, a nude woman. The question I ask in this instance is, why was this painting in particular seen so controversial and shocking?, What makes this painting so different to others that have come before it?. There is a long tradition of female nude being represented in beautiful, erotic way, what makes this a stand out? What we can take from the painting at first glance is: The model in the painting itself is leaning upright on a bed, naked, with only an Orchid in her hair, a ribbon tied around her neck, a bangle and some slippers on. A hand maid is standing by her holding a bouquet of flowers while a little black cat is sitting at the end of the bed. If we look and put thought into what we are looking at, we can gather a refined understanding of why this painting stands out. One of the many reasons why the public disfavoured this painting was simply its painting style, the public thought its painting application was very rough and botched, the painting even seemed unfinished to some. How Olympia herself was painted came under fire too, Her flesh tones look washed out and one dimensional, there is no realistic shading transitions within the painting. The composition of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Authors did a good job adjusting for individual socioeconomic variables, although there is still the challenge that some of these variables (e.g., income and education) could be mediators and not confounders. They used validated tools to measure stress, though, it measures daily life stressors that are less likely to be influenced by neighborhood context. Ascertainment of exposure to drugs was well done, while smoking and alcohol consumption were self reported during the postpartum interview and thus prone to recall bias. As in many similar multi level analyses, this study suffered from the crude measures of neighborhood exposures by using census tracts indicators (4). Neighborhood characteristics were retrieved from the 1990 U.S. Census. Thus, they may inaccurately represent neighborhood context during the relevant time period (1995 1996), as it is possible that these characteristics may have changed over time. One methodological barrier in neighborhood studies is the correlation between neighborhood variables (5). To overcome this barrier, they summarized the four indicators (% black, % poverty, violent crime rate, and % boarded up housing) into one index variable. While this approach is methodologically correct, it became difficult to understand which aspects of neighborhood context affected the outcome, which limited the relevance of study findings to real life ... • 45. An Analysis Of The Dominion Board Game Essay An Analysis of the Dominion Board Game Dominion is a deck building game playable by 2 4 players that will take approximately half an hour. Players compete against each other in a multilateral competition where the player with the most victory points at the end of the game wins. The game begins with ten (usually random) piles of resource cards being laid on the playing area/table, along with the treasure, victory and other various cards. Each player is given an initial 10 cards as their starting deck (a.k.a. their Dominion ) and they each draw 5 cards as their starting hand. They then take turns playing cards from their hands according to the cards instructions, and acquiring new cards from the piles in the middle while trying to improve their dominion. Each turn players draw 5 more cards and once their deck gets depleted they re shuffle their discarded cards back into it. The game ends after any 3 piles of resource cards have been depleted or when the province victory cards have been depleted. The core gameplay revolves around each player using cards in their hands that they have drawn from their deck to acquire additional resources, sabotage other players or bring the game closer to the end (or a combination of these). The games core mechanic is building (it is a deck building game after all) since you spend the whole game growing and expanding your deck. They are brought about by a variety of reasons, and no reason is completely determining of how the movement affected the people around it more than another. By 1763, with the end of the Seven Years War, liberal political ideas such as republicanism and liberalism were taking root in the colonists mind; what these two philosophies shared most in common was that they were breaking away from the conventional political jurisdiction. Thus, this brought about a wave of anti secularization in which the already ultra religious colonists became even more religious in a movement known as the Great Awakening. ... A key aspect that caused the American Revolution was people not only losing faith in their mother country of England, but not caring to obey the rules and laws that England imposed upon them, causing a lack of respect for England s authority. People started becoming more bold and revolutionary, rethinking everything that they held to be true. There were certain political concepts that criticized the social hierarchies of colonial society, and eventually, this led to criticizing religious norms, which led to criticizing norms of all kinds, from what religion meant to oneself to how much authority of a government overseas really possessed over the colonists.
