War Of The Roses Research Paper
War of the Roses is one of the most significant events that made an enormous change to the British
Parliament and England s line of succession. The House of Lancaster and the House of York were both
part of the line of succession to the throne (R. Lacey, 2007, p. 166 169). England s royal family was
divided into two parts: the House of York and the House of Lancaster. The houses argued who should
be in the line of succession after the death of Henry V. Because of this feud between the two houses,
the War of the Roses (1453 1487) occurred. Components that led to the War of the Roses are the
Hundred Years War and the complicated family history. These aspects contributed to the hatred both
houses felt for each other. The War of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Richard II (Edward s successor) did not agree with Edward s opinion about the war; Edward believed
that war needed to continue to protect England s pride and the English interests in Aquitaine.
However, England had no determination to take back the lost French territories again. Richard II
sought permanent peace with France because he saw no end to the war. In 1336, he was able to
preserve French gains by obtaining a 28 year with France Despite England s respectable relations with
France, England s relations worsened when Richard II set two expeditions against Scotland. The
Lancastrians (Edward III s successors) believed that the loss of the French territories was a sign from
God. They interpreted the events as God s disfavor towards England and the Lancastrians specifically.
In the final stages of the Hundred Years War, the result was that Lancastrians still searched for answers
from God. Parliaments became more difficult due to these setbacks. Lancastrians lost confidence in
their government after the heavy losses from France. Henry V risked the future of the Lancastrians for
the dynastic fight against France. Later on, Henry VI had a mental breakdown from the chaos that
surrounded him. This led to the confirmation that God no longer favored the Lancastrians. Henry VI
then institutionalized warfare shifted back across the Channel and initiated the civil war against royal

Flomax

San Diego State University Flomax: An Introduction
Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) or commonly referred as enlarged prostate, occurs in more than
50% of men in their sixties and up to 90% in their seventies and eighties. The condition s hallmark
symptoms include frequency, hesitancy, urgency, post void fullness and nocturia. These symptoms can
greatly affect quality of life of men who suffer from them. Flomax is one of the medications that help
to relieve symptoms of BPH. The drug was developed by Boehringer Ingelheim pharmaceutical
company and approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1997. The purpose of this
paper is to provide an in depth discussion of Flomax based heavily on the 21 page long information
provided by the pharmaceutical company.
Indication
Flomax is a selective alpha 1 antagonist drug whose function is to block the alpha receptors found
within the prostate and interfere with action of the selected receptors. The drug helps to relieve
symptoms of BPH by relaxing the smooth muscle of both prostate and uretheral stricture. Although

effects consist of decreased libido, abnormal ejaculation and prolonged erection. In July of 2014, FDA
added another warning to Flomax s packaging. The warning is about a condition called intraoperative
floppy iris syndrome (IFIS). During cataract surgeries for those who are or were on Flomax, their
irises billow and pupils constrict despite the pharmacologic and surgical measures. IFIS increases the

White Television History
The transition from radio to black and white television enlightened people since they were able to get
live footage of events Although television was first regarded by many as radio with pictures, public
reaction to the arrival of TV was strikingly different from that afforded the advent of radio
(Thompson). Television start was in 1948 to 1959 which was termed The Golden Age due to the fact
that there was advances in technology and was considered a period of higher quality Until the fall of
1948, regularly scheduled programming on the four networks the American Broadcasting Company
(ABC), the Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS; later CBS Corporation), the National Broadcasting
Co. (NBC), and the DuMont Television Network, which folded in 1955 was scarce (Thompson).

formally sold as sets that came with an antenna and knobs to change the channels or raise the volume.
This time was one of innovation and there was no stopping what was to come Nevertheless, the age of

Compare And Contrast The Kings Speech And The King s Speech
Good afternoon class,
While watching the films, The King s Speech and A Beautiful Mind, a quote rang very true to me. One
word frees us all the weight and pain of life. That word is love. This was quoted from a Greek
Playwright called Sophocles. In The King s Speech, Elizabeth fulfilled the role of being a supportive
partner to Bertie with ease, whereas in A Beautiful Mind, Alicia portrayed a realistic idea of the
trauma experienced when a loved one is suffering from a mental illness. By comparing the two
characters and referring to filmic techniques we will be able to see the factors that affected each
women s life and the way they handled and overcame the circumstances that they and their families
experienced.
Both Elizabeth and Alicia showed unconditional love and support for their husbands. However, their
body language, expressions and interactions with each man were different from one another. In the
image below, Elizabeth maintained physical contact with Bertie and was shot in the same frame after
he stuttered during his Speech. This displayed Elizabeth s character as being the strong foundation in
the relationship. From scene one, she showed her protective side by ... Show more content on

If their husbands didn t achieve what they did with their help, the consequences would have been a lot
worse for Alicia than Elizabeth. As you can see in the image, Alicia s marriage, family and wellbeing
would have been ruined because she would have lost Nash to his illness, raise her son as a single
mother and not live a happy and fulfilling life. On the other hand, if Bertie had not been able to
complete his responsibilities and allowed the microphone that he had to speak in be a barrier, they
would have still been the royal family. Elizabeth s marriage to Bertie was not under pressure and they
were not in a position of becoming poor if he had to abdicate as King. The only people that would
have suffered was the people of the United

Sin In The House Of The Seven Gables
Nathaniel Hawthorne a prominent puritan author wrote many great novels in his lifetime. Some of his
novels can be considered classics because they symbolize and express themes that every generation
can in some fashion that many can relate to. Nathaniel Hawthorne, who wrote The House of the Seven
Gables, underlined and brought attention to the flawed human condition by symbolizing how sin is
carried throughout generations. This concept of generational sin has caused mixed emotions for many
who have read the novel.
Nathaniel Hawthorne, born in Salem, Massachusetts, has a New England background. His original

Most critics, such as Henry Chorley, praised the book and Hawthorne stating, few will dispute
[Hawthorne s] claim to rank amongst the most original and complete novelists that have appeared in
modern times (Miller 320). Other critics, especially those of Christian writings like the critics at the
Christian Examiner, said that the book more complex, the characterization more exaggerated, and the
artistic execution less perfect (Mellow 368). Although all of these reviews are somewhat important,
the most important is the review from Fanny Kemble, who described the effect of The House of the

In Favor of Gun Ownership in the US
The ownership of a firearm should not be illegal when most gun owners are law abiding citizens who
use guns in a responsible manner. Our country s founding fathers ratified the second amendment as a
part of our Constitution in order to protect citizen s right to bear arms and to be prepared for foreign
invasion. However, currently the views on gun ownership are beginning to differ even more in urban
and rural communities across America because of how each society is individually affected by the use
of firearms. Many Americans who rely on concealed weapons are women and even families while
some Americans are not yet permitted to keep a firearm like school staff and store owners. Also many
sheriffs across the United States oppose gun ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Legal Action Project determined that the main purpose of writing the Second Amendment was to
make sure that the federal government would not be able to disarm the militia. Also during the late
eighteenth century colonists and even the Founding Fathers wanted reassurance that in case of a
standing army there would be a militia ready for a counterattack. The author, James Madison,
obviously guarantees that the right to bear arms is a collective right of all the people not just the
government s army (Dolan Jr. 71). However many argue that the second amendment only refers to our
country s organized army, not the whole population. Their reason for this is that no country should put
their lives in the hands of mere civilians. Alexander Hamilton specifies that there are actually two
militias; the first is organized, while the second consists of the rest of the people (Dolan Jr. 47). There
is no surprise when people hear about how the gun control is openly despised in rural communities.

What Role Did The Cottage Industry Play In The Industrial...
The industrial revolution began in Great Britain, in the beginning over 75% of England s population
were living in countryside towns whilst working on family owned farms, this was otherwise known as
the cottage industry. When the transition in 17th century began people slowly migrated to the cities,
working in factories and the environments drastically changed.
I enjoy participating in these role plays, as it clarifies and furthers my understanding. I was a factory
worker, and I developed an emotional understanding of the working conditions in which peasants both

Factory owners used the urbanisation and falling of the cottage industry to exploit their workers.
Owners carried the exploitation out by primarily employing women and children and paying them
minimal wages, by ensuring that workers spent six to seven days a week, working a minimum of 12
hour shifts. Many workers became deaf because of the loud machines and the non existent health and
safety guidelines. Factories were always poorly ventilated and became hot and humid very quickly,
especially for those who worked in factories powered by steam, this often resulted in fainting,
dehydration and occasional deaths. When unions were developed in the early 1800 s, condition
gradually improved. Once employees had the government support furthered the improvement, with
the following acts being put in place;
The Factory Act 1819 (UK) limited working hours for children to a maximum of 12 hours a day.
The Factory Act 1833 (UK) banned children under the age of nine from working in the textiles
industry. Children aged 10 to 13 years were limited to a 48 hour working

Forms of Love in Plato s Symposium Essay
Love, in classical Greek literature, is commonly considered as a prominent theme. Love, in present
days, always appears in the categories of books, movies or music, etc. Interpreted differently by
different people, Love turns into a multi faceted being.
In Plato s work Symposium, Phaedrus, Pausania, Eryximachus, Aristophane and Agathon, each of
them presents a speech to either praise or definite Love. Phaedrus first points out that Love is the
primordial god; Pausanias brings the theme of virtue into the discussion and categorizes Love into
good one or bad one; Eryximachus introduces the thought of moderation and thinks that Love governs
such fields as medicine and music; Aristophanes draws attention to the origin and purposes ... Show

without these qualities no individual or community could achieve anything great or fine. (11)
Possession by Love would infuse even utter cowards with courage and make them indistinguishable
from those to whom bravery comes most easily. (11) To show how powerful this bravery is, he puts it
into a condition of a battalion in which lovers and their boyfriends compete in avoiding any kind of
shameful act. This bravery on battlefield is because, compared to the situation that to be seen by one s
beloved committing some disgraceful acts, nothing shames them more.
There is a response to Phaedrus this point later in the symposium. By saying Love is the youngest of
the gods and is forever young (33), Agathon claims that he cannot accept that Love is the most ancient
god, though he agrees with a number of deal of what Phaedrus was saying. To prove his idea, Agathon
argues that if Love had already been existed between Hesiod and Parmenids, they could have been
living happily and in peace with each other. According to Agathon, not only Love is the youngest, but
also Love keeps himself away from old age. He is a constant companion of young men and (given the
validity of the old saying that like always clings to like) he is therefore young himself. (32) From here,
readers can tell that these speeches are not independent. To some extent, they are

Drug Abuse: A Recommendation for Acts of Prevention In Hospitals
Within the past year, nurses with Annie Penn Hospital have been involved in over three hundred

Voyeurism And Fear In The Movie Peeping Tom
Helen s blind mother, Mrs. Stephens, in the movie Peeping Tom, plays a crucial role in enticing
Michael Powell s major themes of voyeurism and fear, and is the only character who is able to bring a
deeper understanding of Mark as a person and the humanity he hides deep within his childhood.
Film scholar Linda Williams has observed that silent films in the early 1900 s often portrayed the
heroin to be naïve and figuratively or even physically blind. This rests on the concept of voyeurism
and objectification of women as well as the fact that women exist solely for the purpose to be looked
at and are not in the position to see for pleasure themselves. The true satisfaction attained during
voyeuristic activities is from the victim being unaware of being watched, making a blind woman an
ideal victim for a voyeur because of their inability to detect being watched. Contrarily, Mark utilizes a
camera with a mirror and a knife attached to the end of its tripod as a weapon. This weapon is
essential for fulfilling his goal of filming his victims in genuine terror as they prepare to be killed.
Mark does not kill Mrs. Stephens because even though he prepares to kill her at one point, he realizes
that she is unable to watch her own death due to her blindness, thus not contributing to his film and
experiment. This shows that Mark is not an ordinary Peeping Tom, and that his voyeurism stems
primarily from his childhood and the filmed episodes of his life that his father directed. His perverted
acts of voyeurism and violence are for purposes much larger than just his own pleasure.
An important quotation in the movie is when Mark asks, Do you know what the most frightening
thing in the world is? and he answers himself with, It s fear. This shows Powell s point that fear is
manifested by the acknowledgement that fear itself exists. Through Powell s definition of fear Mrs.
Stephens is fearless because she is unable to ever see what is coming her way, including Mark or her
own death. The fear she is able to perceive comes from the fear of the unknown or the fear that her
presumptions that Mark is deeply troubled may be right. On the other hand, Mark wants his victims to
fear the coming death and his weapon pointed at

tombs which have provided an ancient list of Kings, of which Narmer is recorded as a pharaoh. His
rule was further consolidated by his marriage with Neithhotep, a supposed Lower Egyptian Princess,
as suggested by Sir Flinders Petrie. Egyptian culture has not only benefited from the Unification,
rather the economy as well. Narmer s name has been found outside Egypt, in Syria Palestine which
indicates that some form of contact and active trade was present between Egypt and parts of the
Ancient Near East, and thus creating trade links bettering Egypt s future economic prospects. As a
result of the accelerated cultural development brought upon by Narmer s unification of Upper and
Lower Egypt, handicrafts, mason s skills, architecture, burial customs , writing art, bureaucracy and
politics have improved dramatically. In terms of writing art and iconography, the reign of Narmer
illustrates the transition between old and new systems of royal iconography. On an ivory cylinder in
Hierakonpolis, it is the catfish element

If Raskolnikov does not meet Marmeladov, he will probably not commit the murder because he is still
unsure about this crime until Marmeladov reminded him : My dear sir! Do you not know the feeling
of having nowhere to turn to! . Raskolnikov is not aware of his desperation until he realized that he
really has nowhere to turn to. He is poor; he can barely support himself, and the only way to get out of
this is to kill the pawnbroker and rob her. Event 2:The murder of Alyona Ivanovna This is the first
climax of the story. As Raskolnikov executes his plan, he suddenly adds some complexity into his
personality. He feels superior. According to his own paper he published in University, he argues that
those who commit crime is those who wants to stand out and feel different from others. He wants to
make himself a Napoleon , and that s why he killed the pawnbroker. However, he was not ready for

What Is The Moral Of 12 Angry Men In The 1950 s
Twelve Angry Men is a movie that took place in the mid 1950s because of the 2nd world war which
had resulted in a depression of economies in the 1920s 1930s. Around this time the American society
was negotiating the political rights with the challenges facing the Soviet Union which occurred over a
decade. It was a political and economic struggle between the two nations. At the same time, the nation
was entering into an internal struggle; also the Civil Rights Movement was concerned with hindering
racism and promote freedom, respect and equality. This play however expresses domestic conflict
which reflects on the social and political conflict in the 1950s. In Twelve Angry Men individual
personality and belief were argued, class conflicts and philosophical challenges were a problem.

A vote was cast and 11 men voted guilty and 1 men voted innocent. The deliberation then started and
the case was argued because someone s life was placed in their hands. Evidence was brought to the
table such as the knife and there was an exact replicate of the one of a kind knife that was at the crime
scene. The old man who lived in an apartment directly below the teenage boy said he saw the boy flee
the crime scene in 15 second, evidence however proved that the old man could not have seen the boy
flee the crime scene in 15 seconds as said. Additionally a woman across the street said she saw the
young man stab his father with the knife however, logics proved that the woman was not wearing her
glasses at the time of d murder which indicated that her eye sight was not 100%. As each evidence
was brought forth more jurors were then convinced as to the young boy being innocent. Eventually the
case was at 11:1 of the boy being innocent and it then resulted in 12:0 innocent in the boy s

Well before I read this book, I actually did think about...
Well before I read this book, I actually did think about what the title could mean and why the author
wrote it so. Before I read this book I thought the book was about astronauts or something ridiculous.
During the book I had some ideas that The Fault In Our Stars meant a mistake or something that
predestined one s fate. I was kind of close. The title meant that the Fault is not always in the others,
but in ourselves. For instance, Hazel Grace has cancer and a chronic illness not because she did
something to cause it; It was just fate. I believe the title was just giving us a hint of the main idea of
the book. Category 1, #5 As he read, I fell in love the way you fall asleep: slowly, and then all at once.
Even before she admits it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Category 2, #3 If this book were to be found in the distant future, 3052 to be exact, I would think that
it was written for a more fantasy driven culture. If some random historians and sociologists just
randomly came by this book, first they d probably think what is a book, why was society so messed up
back then, and why were their books so amazing. One could conclude that their era was one of literary
prosperity. Most likely because of influences from previous eras of literature and innovation
increasing throughout time. Category 3, #1 I think that one of the characters that I notices the most
was Peter. He was the author of the book Imperial Affliction, which Hazel Grace and Augustus Waters
both read and found something in common. They both loved this story so much that they went to
Amsterdam where Peter lived and confronted him in order to find out the untold ending. When they
realize a few things about Peter (he is a total jerk, drunkard, and that he didn t even write the end of
his book) and his book, they just decide to forget him. But later on, at the ending of the book when the
tide turns and Augustus Waters washes away, Peter Van Houten shows up and reveals his characters
flaws happened because of his children s deaths. This made me sit up and appreciate the making of
this character, and the authors creativeness throughout the book. I think the irony in this character is
that many older people are like this but

Why Bees Are Disappearing And The Effect On The World
Abstract
The purpose of this report was to determine why bees are disappearing and the effect on the world if
they disappeared, like pesticides and fungicides role in their disappearance, the role Colony Collapse
Disorder has on their disappearance, the knock on effect on pollination, the knock on effect on crops,
can anything take up their role, can humans take up their role and is life possible without bees. It was
determined that a combination of pesticides and fungicides that contaminates the bees pollen leave the
bees three time more likely to be infected by a parasite, allow not enough evidence is available some
evidence shows that a combination of factors lead to CCD where the adult bees leave the hive, the
queen, the baby bees and some worker bees this is not enough to support the hive in the long run so
they die. Insects pollination accounts for one third of the human diet of which eighty percent is done
by bees, so see a fifty percent decrease in pollination levels over twenty years could crop yields fall
dramatically. Climate change which is thought to play a big role in when the bees immerge from
hibernating through winter and loss of habitat also has an effect on how much the bees pollinate. One
in every three mouth fulls of food of the average person is directly or indirectly linked to honey bee
pollination, the effect of bees disappearing would cause plants that solely rely on bees to pollinate
them to die out, out of one hundred crops which provides nighty

Women Are Looking For A Man Of God
Think about this. When the battery in our car, goes it is drained, you call somebody at AAA to come
charge the battery, right? So why is it that we, as men of God, are not watchful enough to see that our
spiritual battery is low? Why don t we regularly recharge it? Maybe check yourself into a hotel or
something overnight and just lie on your face before God, listening.
Some of you may be in crucial situations right now. How much time have you spent before the Lord,
praying, reading and studying his Word to get yourself back on track? I ve learned that women are
looking for a man of God. They re looking for a man who can take her to another place in life. That s
what they are looking for. You know these women are very independent today. ... Show more content

How do you expect her to operate with you? We have to say, I m not asking for you to be like me, I m
just asking you to work with me. And so, again, if you don t give her anything to do, trust me, she will
find something.
And so that s why you always have to remain plugged in. You have to watch, and stand fast in the
faith. Don t you dare allow fear to consume your faith. You have to be willing to trust God, even when
you are at the point where you have more bills than you got money and you re trying to figure out
what you re going to do. The devil is always present when you are pressured . . . You cannot allow the
enemy to push you to do anything that is offensive to God that you know will take you out of position
with God.
The enemy wants to get you to a place where you will start working so many hours that you re too
tired to pray and can t spend time reading the word or studying scripture. Do you understand me?
When you have no time for yourself, you become an agitated individual. We already have an angry
streak in us. When you are tired, you will become even more flustered. And nobody wants to be
around you because of how you are carrying yourself. That s why you have to stand fast in the faith.
You ve got to believe God in the midst of everything.
Here s the thing: You cannot take this out of the loop. Because times are tough, you say, Ah, man, I
need some money. I ve got to work Sundays for the next 6 months. Rather than seeking God, we

Essay On Tax Structure Of India
History of tax structure in India
Direct Taxes:
These are taxes which are directly taken from the citizen of a country and are deducted from their
incomes.
Thus, the tax is paid by the person who bears the economic burden of the income generated.
Examples: Income Tax and Corporate Tax. Indirect Taxes:
These are taxes paid by the intermediaries on behalf of the final consumer who bears the ultimate
economic burden of the tax. These were collected by both the central and state governments. The
central government collects variety of taxes such as:
1. Excise Tax (collected on the production and manufacturing of goods)
2. Service Tax (collected on services provided)
3. Customs (collected on international trade)
The state government ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This led to quite a few shortcomings, such as:
1. Cascading Effect (Tax on Tax)
2. Tax Evasion
3. Corruption All this led to lesser tax collection, as expected by the government, and also an increase
in the price level. Hence the government of India launched GST (GOODS AND SERVICE TAX ).
Introduction of GST in taxation system GST (Goods and Service Tax) also known as giant indirect tax
structure formed to support the economic growth of any country. More than 150 countries have
implemented GST in their taxation system. The idea of GST in india was rooted by Vajpayee govt in
2000 and the amendment was passed for same by the loksabha on 6th May 2015 but was yet to be
passed in rajyasabha. What is GST? Goods and Service Tax (GST) is a tax applied on manufacture,
sale and consumption of goods and services at a national level. It will be an uniform indirect tax and
applied uniformly on all goods and services. By introducing GST into practice there would be
amalgamation of central and state taxes into single tax payement. However, exports and direct tax like
income tax, corporate tax and capital gain tax will not be affected by GST. It was basically introduced
to overcome the problems of the earlier taxation system. Major benefit of introducing GST is its
nature of it being indifferent to goods and services as the tax is levied at each stage of the supply
chain. Also, all sectors will be taxed with very few exemptions

Limitations of the Canadian Prime Minister Essay
Canada s parliamentary system is designed to preclude the formation of absolute power. Critics and
followers of Canadian politics argue that the Prime Minister of Canada stands alone from the rest of
the government. The powers vested in the prime minister, along with the persistent media attention
given to the position, reinforce the Prime Minister of Canada s superior role both in the House of
Commons and in the public. The result has led to concerns regarding the power of the prime minister.
Hugh Mellon argues that the prime minister of Canada is indeed too powerful. Mellon refers to the
prime minister s control over Canada a prime ministerial government, where the prime minister
encounters few constraints on the usage of his powers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
How can the Canadian government be dominated by one ruler when it has democratic elections with
many competing parties? Mellon believes that Canadian elections have low voter turnouts and even
lower public interest. Canadian elections are essentially sporadic. Finally, Mellon also believes that
prime ministers ...are supported by a growing circle of advisors, pollsters, and spin doctors that help
protect their position, (Hugh 175). The main focus of Mellon s argument is this idea of a prime
ministerial government.
Opposing the belief that a dominating leader is running Canada, Barker brings up several key realities
of the Canadian government. He gives examples of several ... instances of other ministers taking
action that reveal the limits prime ministerial power, (Barker 178). Barker conveys the fact that
Canada is not bound by a dictatorial government, ...it seems that the prime minister cannot really
control his individual ministers. At times, they will pursue agendas that are inconsistent with the prime
minister s actions, (Barker 181). Both inside and outside government are a part of Canada and they
can remind the prime minister that ...politics is a game of survival for all players, (Barker 188). Barker
refutes the misinterpretation of the Canadian government by acknowledging that a prime ministerial
government existing in Canada is an overstatement.
It is obvious the prime minister has more

Analysis Of The Article Anatomy Of The Medial Knee Essay
I was both satisfied and dissatisfied with FoxNews.com s portrayal of my work. First, the article did a
good job of publicizing (sensationalizing) my work by using the words discovery, discover and
discovered several times throughout the article. This type of promotion (although a misrepresentation)
generated a lot of attention and interest in my research, which encouraged scientific dialogue and
research of the knee ALL. Moreover, this information could benefit patients, orthopedic practitioners,
other researchers and government research institutions.
Second, the article did provide a link to the KU Leuven news article (which provided a more accurate
portrayal of my research) entitled, Surgeons describe new ligament in the human knee. This Ku
Leuven news article contains a link to my original research article entitled, Anatomy of the
anterolateral ligament of the knee. This gave the reader an opportunity to read my research and make
their own educated judgments and conclusions.
Third, FoxNews.com did accurately report that the ligament was named by the researchers:
anterolateral ligament (ALL). This is very important because the whole purpose of the research was to
standardize the definition of the ALL which would provide clarity and minimize confusion among
clinicians and researchers.
Finally, FoxNews.com did accurately report that Dr. Steven Claes and Dr. Johan Bellemens do work at
University Hospitals Leuven and have been conducting research into ACL tears

Vittorio De Sico And Italian Neorealism
The average outing to the local movie theater is a pleasant experience; a show of laughs and drama
and romance, wrapped into a satisfying plot to be quickly forgotten by the transient audience. The
experiences of the Second World War, especially in Italy, forced the artistic film industry to grow
jaded quickly. Italian Neorealism, a film movement at odds with the conventional cinematic
experience, finds it somewhat inappropriate to have idealized heroes achieve happily ever after lives
after so many did not in the grim reality of the war. Vittorio De Sica and Cesare Zavattini were
pioneers of the movement, which (although not the first) is best exemplified by Umberto D., released
in Italy in 1952, and after a slow commercial reception, released abroad and in the U.S. in 1955. It
features an old man and his dog as they struggle to survive in the tough reality of the Italian postwar
city. The film was hailed by critics as a shining example of the maturity and emotional power of
realism. In a world of fabricated Hollywood plots, critics all over the world in the 1950s relished the
uncompromising candor of the neorealist film Umberto D., while the commercial reception clearly
shows that the mass audience preferred the purified filters of non realist cinema. Cesare Zavattini, the
co writer of Umberto D. and many other films with De Sica, gave an interview in 1952 in which he
outlined the theory and essence of Italian Neorealism. He deplored the practice of inventing banal and
contrived plots, calling it superimposing dead formulas over living social facts (Zavattini). If a story is
death to Zavattini, reality is life. He sees real life as a rich mine of content with no sparkling additives
necessary; a simple everyday action can be dissected and investigated to reveal a greater truth about
the reality of the situation. Poverty is the main subject for neorealist films, and Zavattini justifies this
by saying he features poverty because it is the most important contemporary reality of the people.
Neorealist films do not use professional actors either; the title character in Umberto D. was played by
a university professor with no acting experience. This adds to the realism by having people who
actually face the

  • 2. War Of The Roses Research Paper War of the Roses is one of the most significant events that made an enormous change to the British Parliament and England s line of succession. The House of Lancaster and the House of York were both part of the line of succession to the throne (R. Lacey, 2007, p. 166 169). England s royal family was divided into two parts: the House of York and the House of Lancaster. The houses argued who should be in the line of succession after the death of Henry V. Because of this feud between the two houses, the War of the Roses (1453 1487) occurred. Components that led to the War of the Roses are the Hundred Years War and the complicated family history. These aspects contributed to the hatred both houses felt for each other. The War of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Richard II (Edward s successor) did not agree with Edward s opinion about the war; Edward believed that war needed to continue to protect England s pride and the English interests in Aquitaine. However, England had no determination to take back the lost French territories again. Richard II sought permanent peace with France because he saw no end to the war. In 1336, he was able to preserve French gains by obtaining a 28 year with France Despite England s respectable relations with France, England s relations worsened when Richard II set two expeditions against Scotland. The Lancastrians (Edward III s successors) believed that the loss of the French territories was a sign from God. They interpreted the events as God s disfavor towards England and the Lancastrians specifically. In the final stages of the Hundred Years War, the result was that Lancastrians still searched for answers from God. Parliaments became more difficult due to these setbacks. Lancastrians lost confidence in their government after the heavy losses from France. Henry V risked the future of the Lancastrians for the dynastic fight against France. Later on, Henry VI had a mental breakdown from the chaos that surrounded him. This led to the confirmation that God no longer favored the Lancastrians. Henry VI then institutionalized warfare shifted back across the Channel and initiated the civil war against royal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One word frees us all the weight and pain of life. That word is love. This was quoted from a Greek Playwright called Sophocles. In The King s Speech, Elizabeth fulfilled the role of being a supportive partner to Bertie with ease, whereas in A Beautiful Mind, Alicia portrayed a realistic idea of the trauma experienced when a loved one is suffering from a mental illness. By comparing the two characters and referring to filmic techniques we will be able to see the factors that affected each women s life and the way they handled and overcame the circumstances that they and their families experienced. Both Elizabeth and Alicia showed unconditional love and support for their husbands. However, their body language, expressions and interactions with each man were different from one another. On the other hand, if Bertie had not been able to complete his responsibilities and allowed the microphone that he had to speak in be a barrier, they would have still been the royal family. Our country s founding fathers ratified the second amendment as a part of our Constitution in order to protect citizen s right to bear arms and to be prepared for foreign invasion. However, currently the views on gun ownership are beginning to differ even more in urban and rural communities across America because of how each society is individually affected by the use of firearms. The Legal Action Project determined that the main purpose of writing the Second Amendment was to make sure that the federal government would not be able to disarm the militia. Also during the late eighteenth century colonists and even the Founding Fathers wanted reassurance that in case of a standing army there would be a militia ready for a counterattack. The author, James Madison, obviously guarantees that the right to bear arms is a collective right of all the people not just the government s army (Dolan Jr. 71). However many argue that the second amendment only refers to our country s organized army, not the whole population. Their reason for this is that no country should put their lives in the hands of mere civilians. Alexander Hamilton specifies that there are actually two militias; the first is organized, while the second consists of the rest of the people (Dolan Jr. 47). There is no surprise when people hear about how the gun control is openly despised in rural communities. • 18. Voyeurism And Fear In The Movie Peeping Tom Helen s blind mother, Mrs. Stephens, in the movie Peeping Tom, plays a crucial role in enticing Michael Powell s major themes of voyeurism and fear, and is the only character who is able to bring a deeper understanding of Mark as a person and the humanity he hides deep within his childhood. Film scholar Linda Williams has observed that silent films in the early 1900 s often portrayed the heroin to be naïve and figuratively or even physically blind. This rests on the concept of voyeurism and objectification of women as well as the fact that women exist solely for the purpose to be looked at and are not in the position to see for pleasure themselves. The true satisfaction attained during voyeuristic activities is from the victim being unaware of being watched, making a blind woman an ideal victim for a voyeur because of their inability to detect being watched. Contrarily, Mark utilizes a camera with a mirror and a knife attached to the end of its tripod as a weapon. This weapon is essential for fulfilling his goal of filming his victims in genuine terror as they prepare to be killed. Mark does not kill Mrs. Stephens because even though he prepares to kill her at one point, he realizes that she is unable to watch her own death due to her blindness, thus not contributing to his film and experiment. This shows that Mark is not an ordinary Peeping Tom, and that his voyeurism stems primarily from his childhood and the filmed episodes of his life that his father directed. His perverted acts of voyeurism and violence are for purposes much larger than just his own pleasure. An important quotation in the movie is when Mark asks, Do you know what the most frightening thing in the world is? and he answers himself with, It s fear. This shows Powell s point that fear is manifested by the acknowledgement that fear itself exists. Through Powell s definition of fear Mrs. Stephens is fearless because she is unable to ever see what is coming her way, including Mark or her own death. The fear she is able to perceive comes from the fear of the unknown or the fear that her presumptions that Mark is deeply troubled may be right. On the other hand, Mark wants his victims to fear the coming death and his weapon pointed at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. King Narmer s Second Dynasty On a cultural, economic and political level, Egypt has been largely shaped by the idiosyncrasies of its various rulers. Egypt s first leap towards becoming an advanced civilisation began with King Narmer s unification of Upper and Lower Egypt. Although the first 200 years of Egypt s unification do not appear to have been peaceful, cultural development accelerated ahead during the early dynasties. The tensions between the North and South throughout Egypt s second dynasty continued to grow until Khasekhemwy s ascension to the throne. As the last King of the Second Dynasty, he is widely recognised as the King that resolved the conflict between the two sides, however, how this was achieved is not known. The beginning of the third dynasty started with his son, Djoser, who now ruled over a politically stable Egypt. Egyptian society advanced significantly under ... The validity of Narmer s pharaonic title is supported by the seal impressions found in the Abydos tombs which have provided an ancient list of Kings, of which Narmer is recorded as a pharaoh. His rule was further consolidated by his marriage with Neithhotep, a supposed Lower Egyptian Princess, as suggested by Sir Flinders Petrie. Egyptian culture has not only benefited from the Unification, rather the economy as well. Narmer s name has been found outside Egypt, in Syria Palestine which indicates that some form of contact and active trade was present between Egypt and parts of the Ancient Near East, and thus creating trade links bettering Egypt s future economic prospects. As a result of the accelerated cultural development brought upon by Narmer s unification of Upper and Lower Egypt, handicrafts, mason s skills, architecture, burial customs , writing art, bureaucracy and politics have improved dramatically. Before I read this book I thought the book was about astronauts or something ridiculous. During the book I had some ideas that The Fault In Our Stars meant a mistake or something that predestined one s fate. I was kind of close. The title meant that the Fault is not always in the others, but in ourselves. For instance, Hazel Grace has cancer and a chronic illness not because she did something to cause it; It was just fate. I believe the title was just giving us a hint of the main idea of the book. Category 1, #5 As he read, I fell in love the way you fall asleep: slowly, and then all at once. If some random historians and sociologists just randomly came by this book, first they d probably think what is a book, why was society so messed up back then, and why were their books so amazing. One could conclude that their era was one of literary prosperity. Most likely because of influences from previous eras of literature and innovation increasing throughout time. Category 3, #1 I think that one of the characters that I notices the most was Peter. He was the author of the book Imperial Affliction, which Hazel Grace and Augustus Waters both read and found something in common. They both loved this story so much that they went to Amsterdam where Peter lived and confronted him in order to find out the untold ending. When they realize a few things about Peter (he is a total jerk, drunkard, and that he didn t even write the end of his book) and his book, they just decide to forget him. But later on, at the ending of the book when the tide turns and Augustus Waters washes away, Peter Van Houten shows up and reveals his characters flaws happened because of his children s deaths. This made me sit up and appreciate the making of this character, and the authors creativeness throughout the book. I think the irony in this character is that many older people are like this but ... • 31. Vittorio De Sico And Italian Neorealism The average outing to the local movie theater is a pleasant experience; a show of laughs and drama and romance, wrapped into a satisfying plot to be quickly forgotten by the transient audience. The experiences of the Second World War, especially in Italy, forced the artistic film industry to grow jaded quickly. Italian Neorealism, a film movement at odds with the conventional cinematic experience, finds it somewhat inappropriate to have idealized heroes achieve happily ever after lives after so many did not in the grim reality of the war. Vittorio De Sica and Cesare Zavattini were pioneers of the movement, which (although not the first) is best exemplified by Umberto D., released in Italy in 1952, and after a slow commercial reception, released abroad and in the U.S. in 1955. It features an old man and his dog as they struggle to survive in the tough reality of the Italian postwar city. The film was hailed by critics as a shining example of the maturity and emotional power of realism. In a world of fabricated Hollywood plots, critics all over the world in the 1950s relished the uncompromising candor of the neorealist film Umberto D., while the commercial reception clearly shows that the mass audience preferred the purified filters of non realist cinema. Cesare Zavattini, the co writer of Umberto D. and many other films with De Sica, gave an interview in 1952 in which he outlined the theory and essence of Italian Neorealism. He deplored the practice of inventing banal and contrived plots, calling it superimposing dead formulas over living social facts (Zavattini). If a story is death to Zavattini, reality is life. He sees real life as a rich mine of content with no sparkling additives necessary; a simple everyday action can be dissected and investigated to reveal a greater truth about the reality of the situation. Poverty is the main subject for neorealist films, and Zavattini justifies this by saying he features poverty because it is the most important contemporary reality of the people. Neorealist films do not use professional actors either; the title character in Umberto D. was played by a university professor with no acting experience. This adds to the realism by having people who actually face the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
