What was required of him in order to play all of
these different types of roles?
5. Roles Within Relationships

Relationship: the bond or connection you
have with other people
Acquaintances
Friends
Family
7. White Board Activity
What are some of the roles that you play in your
different relationships?
What are some of your responsibilities within those
roles?
Lets look at two roles that each of us can relate to
Roles of parents
Roles you have as children
9. The C’s of Relationships
Cooperation
The process of working together to the same end
* With a good attitude!*
Compliance
The act of conforming, or yielding
Doing it because you have to
Compromise
an agreement or a settlement of an argument/dispute
that is reached by each side making sacrifices
Each side gives a little in order to come to an agreement
Communication
We will talk about this next class period
10. Character within Relationships
Trustworthiness:
Doing what you say you
will do
Responsibility:
borrow something, it
breaks, you replace it.
Fairness:
take turns, share
Caring:
Show sympathy and/or
empathy
Citizenship:
Being a good
neighbor/friend. Ex: help
by shoveling walks, etc.
Respect:
Listen when someone is
talking
12. Unlike a Real Bank Account
Deposits tend to evaporate or be forgotten about.
Where withdrawals turn to stone (not forgotten…harder to
forget)
Too many withdrawals requires even more deposits to
bring the account back into the positive.
The only way to build up accounts (relationships) is to
minimize withdrawals and make steady generous
deposits over time
13. RBA Withdrawals
Breaking promises
Gossiping about others
Not listening
Being arrogant
Losing trust
Not fulfilling expectations
Saying hurtful things
Waiting to be told to do something
14. 6 Major Deposits
Understanding the Individual (Showing interest)
Demonstrating small courtesies and kindnesses (small
change)
Keeping commitments (credit card)
Clarifying expectations (check)
Showing personal integrity (gold)
Apologizing sincerely (cash)
15. Understanding the Individual
Showing interest
Recognize what is important to that person and take
interest in it
Ex: Sam discusses the stock market with his dad who
is a stock-broker
16. Demonstrating small courtesies and
kindnesses
Small change
These are often underrated, but kind notes, winks,
hugs, etc quickly add up in the RBA.
These small acts demonstrate appreciation
17. Keeping our Commitments
Credit Card
Doing WHAT we say we will WHEN we say we will
Promising to be somewhere & not showing up =
withdrawal
18. Clarifying Expectations
Check
Critically important in avoiding contention,
misunderstandings, & hurt feelings
Don’t read minds or expect others to read yours.
Ex: Moms idea of a clean room might be different
than yours.
20. Apologizing Sincerely
Cash
Small, but important words make all the difference
in a relationship.
Ex: Please… Thank you… I love you… I’m sorry…
How can I help…?
