Xerte is a fully-featured e-learning development environment for creating rich interactivity. Xerte is aimed at developers of interactive content who will create sophisticated content with some scripting, and Xerte can be used to extend the capabilities of Xerte Online Toolkits with new tools for content authors. Xerte Online Toolkits is a server-based suite of tools for content authors. Elearning materials can be authored quickly and easily using browser-based tools, with no programming required. Xerte Online Toolkits is aimed at content authors, who will assemble content using simple wizards. Content authors can easily collaborate on projects. Xerte Online Toolktis can be extended by developers using Xerte.

As a global society, we are producing data at an incredible rate, fuelled by the increasing ubiquity of the Web, and stoked by social media, sensors, and mobile devices. However, as the amount of produced data continues to increase, so does the demand for practitioners who have the necessary skills to manage and manipulate this data. The European Data Science Academy (EDSA) is looking to bridge the data science skills gap by developing multimodal open courseware tailored to the real needs of data practitioners. The EDSA courseware is implemented as a combination of living learning materials and activities (eBook, online courses, webinars, face-to-face training), produced via a rigorous process and validated by the data science community through continuous feedback.

In 2015, the right combination of factors came together for us to build a Lightboard at Vancouver Island University based on the open hardware specification originally designed at Northwestern University.
The Lightboard provides a familiar whiteboard like environment for faculty to use while creating educational videos. Aside from the novelty, what makes the Lightboard a useful tool and what does it really take to build one?
We’ll share our Centre's history with supporting educational video and explain why and how we built our Lightboard. We'll show you pictures, examples we created with the lightboard and some pedagogically appropriate integrations into teaching and learning experiences.
We’d also like to hear from you. How have you supported educational video on your campus and what other supports for creating video have you used?

It is recognised that more than ‘literacy’ is needed in today’s academic environment in order to take full advantage of the affordances of using ICTs for the full range of teaching and learning, research, and administrative duties and blended modes of provision.
In order to address this issue, OUT, in collaboration with Saide’s OER Africa initiative, has conceptualised a course on ‘Digital Fluency’ to be provided as an Open Educational Resource (OER) and made available for ODeL provision.
The move from literacy to fluency encompasses effective and ethical online communication, critical interpretation, quality resource creation and curation, knowledge co-construction, and an understanding of using all of these abilities to open up education – with all of these becoming increasingly standard and effortless over time.

There is a legal obligation for colleges to ensure that no-one is disadvantaged because of a disability, to anticipate the needs of people who might be accessing your information and your services and to make reasonable adjustments to accommodate their needs. One simple thing that everyone can do to meet these obligations is to ensure that the material that they create using Microsoft Office is created inclusively, doing so will ensure that it is accessible to a wide range of people who use assistive technologies or who have difficulty accessing text based information.
This presentation will highlight some simple ways to make your documents accessible using Word 2010 and how well designed Word documents can be converted into accessible PDFs.

Xerte is a software development kit that was Developed by Nottingham Uni and released to the academic community in 2008 as open source software,
To facilitate the adoption of elearning in academic environments and to reduce barriers to technology and remove the need for required technical skills for creating elearning content
Xerte as open source software led to development of XOT
Xerte Online Toolkits offers a quick way for people with limited technical skills to create interactive multimedia, accessible resources. With the new developments in Xerte Toolkits v 1.9 (released Dec 2012) you can now create one set of content and instantly create two versions - one in HTML5 which will run on a wide range of devices (including mobile devices); and one in the traditional Flash format.
The Xerte project has a host of different tools available under a GNU public license (free, copyleft license for software and other kinds of works.)
Xerte developer’s edition, for those who are technically literate and If you know a little code you can create more complex structures and sophisticated interactivity.
If you can write a lot of code it allows you to write and develop powerful components, extending the Xerte authoring interface with your own tools, and even contribute to the Xerte project itself.
