Enron Essay
As Bethany McLean and Peter Elkind portray in The Smartest Guys in the Room: The Amazing
Rise and Scandalous Fall of Enron, there was a chain reaction of events and a hole that dug deeper
with time in the life span of, at one time the world s 7th largest corporation, Enron. The events were
formulated by an equation with many factors: arbitrary accounting practices, Wall Street s evolving
nature and Enrons lack of successful business plans combined with, what Jeff Skilling, CEO of
Enron, believed was the most natural of human characteristics, greed. This formula resulted in
fraud, deceit, and ultimately the rise and fall of Enron.
Kenneth Lay created Enron in 1985 as a result of the merger of Houston Natural Gas and Internorth.

Next came California s rolling blackouts caused by Enron s traders. By turning the power off
and on in California, they could control the price of electricity, essentially stealing people s
money. Because they could manipulate the price, they made hefty bets on it, and in turn made
over $2 billion dollars for Enron. Just before the fall of Enron, the insiders sold off nearly $1
billion dollars prior to the annunciation of the bankruptcy of Enron. What caused so many
executives and employees to behave in such a fraudulent way? As Skilling put it, the biggest
motivator for humans is money. Enron s executives received large quantities of stock options,
motivating them to manipulate earnings which would cause an increase in the stock price. The
nature of Enron s executives also played a big role in influencing employees to display similar
characteristics of aggression, arrogance, greed and dishonesty. Executives at Enron were known to
take extreme dirt biking trips to places like Mexico, where they could dangerously travel 1200
miles of rugged terrain. Stories of broken bones, stitches and flipping jeeps became legendary at
Enron, and fed the macho personality of the employees. Top management gave its managers blank
orders, to just do it (60). In turn, employees attempted to not only crush outsiders, but eachother.
Skilling encouraged this behavior, saying he wanted them to

Speaking Unplugged
Speaking Unplugged: 30 Activities for One to One Classes By reducing the amount of material that
is imported into the classroom, the teacher frees the learning space for the kind of interactive,
talkВmediated learning opportunities that are so crucial for language development. Scott
Thornbury: Teaching Unplugged Introduction Like many teachers I suspect I used to turn up to
my one to one classes with a pile of worksheets under my arm. The worst thing that can happen in
a one to one class is running out of materials, I thought. And then one day, a private student told
me he didn t enjoy my classes because he felt I was just giving him a series of worksheets to

re the Teacher 1. Know the Teacher Language Focus: Question forms, short answers Adult learners
can feel infantilised when they speak a foreign language. They may have a confident and respected
public identity in their first language but feel like children communicating with adults when
speaking their second language, especially with their teacher, who they may respond to as a figure
of authority and an imparter of knowledge. This power relationship is, in my opinion, rather
unhealthy and unhelpful in oneВtoВone classes. As teachers, we are no more intelligent, cultured,
openВminded or wise than our learners. We are equals in all respects, except our ability to use
the English language. Therefore, I always recommend a getting to know your teacher activity in
the first lesson. As well as giving you a good idea of your student s strengths and weaknesses, we
can also use this activity to break the ice. Start by asking your learner to write down a list of
questions they would like to ask you. Give them a few ideas, themes like work, family, hobbies, and
let them spend a few minutes thinking and forming questions. Let them write the questions first
rather than ask them to think them up on the spot. In realВlife situations, we

The Slave Journal Entry
Day 9, September 1, A.D 78. I awoke, feet sore, mouth dry. All of the sudden, I hear growling
noises! Oh... It s just my stomach, again. I exclaimed. This is how I wake up every morning on
the roads of Pompeii, my new home. My pockets empty, nothing much on me. You can tell I am
not the richest of folks, I am in fact the lowest class. Life isn t very fun being a slave but
hopefully that will change soon, currently, I am not respected, no one ever makes eye contact
with me and whenever I say hi, they just tilt up their head in a cocky way and ignore me. I am
also treated like trash and call me names push me around, I feel different. The only people who
treat me well are, the other slaves and my oar, I know, it s weird to talk to an or money... Show more

When I awoke in the middle of the night I went outside on the ledge and looked along the shore,
peaceful and quiet except for the small waves crashing ashore. As I turn my head to go back
inside I saw an orange, red flare in the night sky. It was on the volcano! Magma was oozing out
of it like an overflowing bath. I quickly ran inside and grabbed all my valuables and rushed out
the door, I stole someone s canoe (I m not sure who s). I then took my oar and pushed the boat out
with a loud grunt. It let out a loud squeak as I hopped in, I haven t been in one of these for months!
I thought to myself. It was shaking as if the earth was too, it was a struggle to get out in the water
but I made it safe, all in one piece. It was dark and gloomy and the moment had a horrifying tone
to it. I couldn t see past the surface of the water it seemed like I was on top of a layer of coal. I
tried to sleep but the rocking of the boat was against that idea so I stayed awake and waited until
morning. When the sun started to rise, a dark ashy cloud started to fill the sky, just as I thought
it was over, the horrifying feeling struck again. The sky started lighting up and let out loud roars,
lightning was upon us. Though it was morning, it felt like midnight, except, no moon, no light,
nothing except me and my boat... That suddenly changed though, along with the roaring I
started hearing cries of terror as flying cinders with a size ranging from pebbles to boulders
started plunging into the water. It was hard to notice what was going on but I knew Vesuvius
was erupting and people were dropping like flies. I tried to remain calm but it was a struggle. All of
the sudden before I knew it I was knocked out by a cinder... When I awoke I was further out but I
still had a small glimpse of Pompeii

Nature Of Just War
The concept of just war is built on the assumption that war is bad and should be avoided, but
there also may be times when warfare is justified. Just war theories usually address two main
areas: First, under what conditions is it right to go to war? Second, is there a moral way to
conduct a war? As for the history of just wartheories, the ancient Greeks and Romans sometimes
discussed the moralityof war. Cicero (106 43 B.C.), for instance, argued that the only acceptable
reason for war is self defence which included the right to defend one s honor. Cicero aside, Saint
Augustine of Hippo (A.D. 354 430) is often viewed as the father of the just wartheory. Augustine
was against individuals retaliating when injured, but he believed nations

Why We Should Be More Open Minded
What if I told you someone took $20 from cash register at Wal Mart how would you feel/think?
Would you look down on them? Would you be mad that they just took the money while you go
to work and earn your money? Would you feel sorry for them? Now what if I told you that
person owns the store and was going to give the money to a family who was homeless? Would
your opinion change about that person? When people are closed minded, they jump to
conclusions. They only believe that there is only one answer or solutions. More people should
be more opened minded because they are willing to receive new or different ideas, information,
and beliefs. I am going to talk about why it is a problem being closed minded, how to be more
open minded, and why you should be more open minded. Most of us are brought up with a set of
beliefs and values and, throughout our lives, tend to surround ourselves with people who share
the same values and beliefs. Therefore, it can be difficult when we re faced with ideas that
challenge our own and, though we may wish to be open minded, we may struggle with the act of
it from time to time.(Positively present) The problem with being closed minded is they use
hostility, prejudice, indifference, and inattention to keep new or different ideas from gaining a
foothold. Basically they don t try to let new ideas or beliefs cross their minds. Also people who
are closed minded don t want to learn or change their opinion on certain beliefs. They like to think

Cyber Attackers Use For Hacking An Organization
Phishing has become one of the most successful methods cyber attackers use for hacking an
organization. It has become effective because it targets the weakest link, people. Cyber attackers
understand that the easiest way to hack into an organization, infecting someone s computer or gain
someone s password is to simply ask. Phishingworks by sending an email to millions of people
pretending to be something they know or trust, such as a well known bank, online store, or
government organization. The attackers do not have a specific target in mind nor do they now
exactly who will fall victim, they simply know the more phishing emails they send out, the more
people they can fool. Their goal is to trick people into providing the phishers with their private
information. 2015 saw an increase of 23% of users opening phishing messages and 11% of users
click on the attachment (Verizon, 2015). Further, phishing still remains as one of the top two
concerns that organizations have and the numbers are growing. Since 2014 phishing concerns by
the organizations have been increasing every year (Cyber Edge, 2016) and more money is put
invested in technological means. Many organizations use technical means such as filtering
messages, detection of fraudulent websites, and developing anti phishing warning systems
(Egelman et al. 2008). However technical means are incapable of removing the threat of phishing
(Abbasi et al. 2012; Dhamija et al. 2006) because an organizations weakest link, the

Integrating Paul s Letter To Biblical Hermeneutics
a.Distantiation In order for us to bring Pauls letter to the church in Rome and context into contact
with the Lutheran community in Marapyane, our distantiation will have to be not just expanding,
but also be making use of or adopting the three steps of biblical hermeneutics as expounded by both
Jonathan Draper and Gerald West. Draper call the first step to this approach the distantiation, it is in
this step that we will try to allow the text to speak for itself without falling into the temptation of
speaking on texts behalf. According to Draper distantiation allows the text to talk while the reader
becomes the listener (Draper 2001:155) According to West, attention to the text must be given the
priority and not too much on the attitude

Synopsis
I did my this day in history report on Alexander the Great. Alexander the great is known for many
things. He was king of Macedonia, a military genius, and the greatest conqueror of all time to
name a few. Alexander was taught by many great minds, perhaps most responsible for his greatness
was Aristotle. Alexander was given many hard tasks and tremendous responsibilities as a child and
teen, which he carried out with ease. As an adult king, Alexander ruled over Macedoniaand kept it
safe from invasion and rebellion. He then sought to conquer as much of the world as possible.
When Alexander was about 30, a feat in itself, he ruled over the biggest empire in the history of
the world (this record still stands today). Alexander the great died in June 323 B.C. with
mysterious causes of death that are still argued today. He died as the greatest conqueror of all time
and an inspiration to many. Historians are finding amazing new things about Alexander to this day
that continue to amaze everyone and add to his greatness.

Neil Peart Literary Techniques
In Neil Peart s Witch Hunt, an ignorant mob is attempting to change others in ways they see fit
by wanting to modify the dangerous media that wrongly influences society. Neil Peart expresses
the mob s ideas and actions using various literary techniques throughout the poem that convey a
wicked and corrupt tone. With egregious intentions, a mob of ignorant people will force others to
think like them in order to eliminate the false dangers within their civilization. Using devices
such as imagery, consonance, verbal and dramatic irony to create the overall message of how the
people who know the least about what is actually going on in society seem to do anything to
ignore or get rid of change. In the first stanza of the poem the reader is introduced to an uncanny
setting where the oblivious mob slowly rises in the dark night. The eerie diction creates a
foreboding tone through vivid imagery, creating the idea that something wicked is about to occur.
Diction such as black, still, and lonely that really... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Symbolism is also included in this stanza, flickering light gives the reader the visual representation

night and Quiet in conscience, calm in their right. In the first instance of consonance the speaker
describes the mob, the sound makes the mob sound like they are being sneaky. In the second one,
the speaker s use of a cacophony in an effort to point out how cynical the mob actually is. Quiet in
conscience, calm in their right can also be parallelism in that the speaker stresses the viewpoints of
the mob to assist the reader s analyzation of their intentions. Mesodiplosis constitutes that the mob

Muslim Culture Oppression
Women s Oppression in Muslim Culture
Many people have the chance to be great citizens, however their actions of oppression towards
others defines them as evil. These horrible events are often seen in areas with poor government,
religious beliefs, or corrupt laws. In the Muslim culture, women in Afghanistan are highly
oppressed because of verses from the Qu ran; this oppression has violated women s rights for
years, and although women have been treated poorly for a long time, there is still hope that women
will have better rights than they do now.

Animal Experimentation Should Be Banned
The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated. Mahatma Gandhi. These
famous words still ring true in today s society as we struggle to overcome the scientific
experimentation on animals. Animals have acted as the archstone of human civilization since the
dawn of man, from a source of food, to companionship. However, in the past century, we have been
blurring the line between environmental entitlement and environmental rape. Every member of the
human race interacts and depends on animals, and we owe them a certain level of respect in our
society. Animal Experimentation should be banned in all forms within the borders of the United
States; prohibited under an expansion of the Animal Welfare Act. This paper will explore the
problems, causes and solutions pertaining to animal experimentation. This is a relevant issue in the
United States, where animals are inhumanely used for experimentation in both medical and
cosmetic industries. The cosmetic industry puts defenseless animal through painful experiments for
the luxury of their products. The Indian Journal of Pharmacology states that: In the USA millions
of animals were used in procedures that caused more than momentary pain or pain/distress, while
84,000 were used in studies that would cause pain or distress that would not be relieved by
anesthesia. (Badyal, Dinesh; Desai, Chetna). These numbers are staggering, and be eye opening to

Impact Of Donald Trump On The Us Economy
Donald Trump V.S. United States Economy
President Elect Donald Trump will enter office January 20, 2017. He has many great plans and
ideas on how to improve the United States economy drastically. Many economists have argued on
how Trump s plan will improve the United States, but can do some damage to the U.S. Currently,
the United States is in twenty trillion dollars in debt. The main question is: Is Trump the right
man for the job? Today, the focus would be on how Donald J. Trump s plan can revamp the
United States economy and what effect will it do overall. Donald Trump s plan focal point is on
cutting taxes and how that will result in many benefits towards the economy. The president elect

First, he wants to appoint the toughest and smallest trade negotiators to fight on behalf of
American workers.(Fernandez 1). Mr. Trump wants to understand and see where the American
workers jobs are going. Furthermore, he wants to note why millions of Americans don t have
jobs and who are taking them away. To do that he has to first renegotiate NAFTA or get rid of it
(Fernandez 2).What is NAFTA and what mess it is creating? Basically, a trade agreement
between the USA, Mexico and Canada formed by Bill Clinton, and it has let many Americans
without jobs because most of them have gone to Mexico. That is the main reason Donald J.
Trump hates this agreement and how it has destroyed the United States economy to bits and
pieces. Additionally, what makes Trump fierce is that China has been stealing American trade
secrets for many years. He clearly stated, If China does not stop its illegal activities, including its
theft of American trade secrets, I will use every lawful presidential power to remedy trade
disputes, including the application of tariffs consistent with Section 201 and 301 of the Trade
Act of 1974 and Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962 (Fernandez 3). Clearly, this
shows that Trump is serious about his job and doesn t care if he is dealing with China. China has
been stealing all our trade secrets and Barack Obama didn t do anything about it. In brief, this
clearly shows that our future President has the characteristics and personality of a true leader that is
ready for this great battle.
Our economy has gone down hill since Barack Obama stepped into office in the year of 2008.
Our newly elected president, Donald J. Trump, has shown through his economic plan that he will
bring back jobs and cut taxes drastically for everyone. In all, these major changes towards our
economy will make America great

To Kill A Mockingbird Hypocrisy Analysis
JosГ© Emilio Pacheco says We are all hypocrites. We cannot see ourselves or judge ourselves the
way we see and judge others. Hypocrisy is demonstrated and observed on an everyday basis in our
society, and even in the rural town of Maycomb in the 1930s it is evident as well. In To Kill a
Mockingbird, two children by the names of Scout and Jem start to see hypocrisymore and more
frequently because of the events that happen to unfold. This includes , including an african
american young man accused of something he did not do. This amazing novel by Harper Lee
shows that hypocrisy is closely linked to privilege, and a dominating opinion about others. The
characters Miss Gates and Mrs. Merriweather are great examples of hypocrisy and Atticus is a
great counterexample, showing an effort of being larger than others in Maycomb. Miss Gates
demonstrates hypocrisy in the novel. It is shown when she is speaking to Scout s class. She is
teaching about Hitler, speaking about how he does not treat everybody equally. She expresses
her beliefs against prejudice and the persecution of those who aren t like her. This is hypocritical
because she does not treat everybody equally in her own town, and yet she is teaching the
opposite of her actions. Miss Gates says, Over here we don t believe in persecuting anybody.
Persecution comes from people who are prejudice. (Lee 281) This shows what Miss Gates is
teaching to her students and it makes Scout confused because she knows that Miss Gates is

How Important Is The Us Economy In The 1920 s
Our Nation s Economy
Every successful country needs a successful economical system. If a country s economy is big,
wealthy, and powerful, that country is set, at least for the time being. The United States and its
massive budget are a great example. The U.S. economy is a very capitalistic, risky, and stressful
endeavor.
This great nation s economy is powered by the almighty power of capitalism. We are number one
when it comes to the size and importance of our budget (US Economy). Ipso Facto during the
United States prime, many countries wanted to emulate the United States due to their
extraordinary financial standing compared to the rest of the World (McBride). This want to push
towards United States levels of success has caused many countries to shift to a more capitalistic
way of thinking. Capitalism is a system in which goods and services are offered on the free
market, with buyers and sellers coming together to determine the price of those goods and services
(US Economy). During the 1920 s, the amount of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It can all go downhill very easily. Due to the nature of capitalism and the free market, when
unemployment rises, spending buyers grow sparse (US Economy). Sellers absolutely depend on
consumers to buy their products and services. If the public doesn t have any money to spend,
they, quite simply, don t spend. For example, just six years removed from the greatest financial
cataclysm since the Great Depression, the US continues... down the same perilous economic path
(McBride). The crisis referred to in the quote was the meltdown of 2009, a seismic and nearly
deafening blow towards American consumerism. Many more people as of this event are either in
debt, poor, homeless, or a combination of these factors. The worst part is if the United States
government, at least according to Jonathan Kirshner, had reformed the economic sector, we could
ve avoided this setback and stopped our downward spiral

The Sapir-Whorf Hypothesis
1. Cognitive anthropology emerged in the 1960s and is concerned with folk taxonomies and
semantic domains as they are practiced in ethnolinguistics and by ethnoscientists in the New
Ethnography. The New Ethnography is a name for cognitive anthropology known for investigative
techniques devised by Harold Conklin, Charles Frake, and Ward Goodenough .Cognitive
anthropologys theoretical orientation was emic (the insider point of view, which is different from
etic or the outsider point of view).
Cognitive anthropology is rooted in both Boasian cultural relativism and anthropological linguistics
as well as cognitive processes. One major precursor for cognitive anthropology was the Sapir Whorf
Hypothesis. The Sapir Whorf Hypothesis was shaped by Edward Sapir and Benjamin Lee Whorf
and states that languages classify experiences differently. Other than Edward Sapir and Benjamin
Lee Whorf, Kenneth Pike (a linguist) was influential on cognitive anthropology. He contrasted emic
with etic and made the analogy between phonemics, which is the linguistic meaning created by
sounds, and phonetics, which is the linguistic sounds that create meaning. The other major figures
of cognitive anthropology include Ward Goodenough, Charles Frake, Harold Conklin, Roy D

Obesity Epidemic Among Schools Are Healthy Eating And...

school aged children in Framingham is of utmost importance. In Framingham, 20.4% of children

district authorities, the health of our students is a top priority. Therefore, I feel it is critical to

concepts according to Massachusetts state guidelines. HPE is designed to provide students with a

Limited Physical Education: According to data from the Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System

George Washington The Indispensable Man Analysis
George Washington is a towering historical figure who is considered the father of the United States.
James Thomas Flexner captures the man, not the myth, behind this legendary icon in one concise
single volume biography, Washington: the Indispensable Man. This book is a condensed but
altogether new version of Flexner s previous four volume biography of George Washington. This
smaller scale book is well written, and explores Washingtonas the human being behind the
legendary icon (New York Times Book Review) to bring the reader to a closer relation to a man
removed by time and history. Of time and history, GeorgeWashington had a great deal more of it
which Flexner had to cover. Washington was a major national figure for twenty four years from his
election as Commander in Chief to his death, and he was hardly twenty when his role in the French
and Indian War made him internationally known. The wide ranging subject of Washington must
have been difficult to fit into one encapsulated volume, but Flexner manages not only to do that but
also writes straightforward in thought with flowing ideas and logical conclusions. The first chapter,
of course, starts from George s Birth and tells of his childhood of growing admiration for the wilds
of the frontier and the British Army. A little later, the book moves forward to Washington s first
military blunder in inciting the French and Indian War which makes the name George Washington
internationally known. After this incident, Flexner

the assignations of Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy. Both men were public figures

Robert F. Kennedy s assignation opened the door for Richard Nixon to be elected president of the

Short Run And Long Run Effects
Short Run and Long Run Effects In the short run, both global demand and supply of oil are
relatively inelastic because it is difficult for them to make large adjustments to price changes in a
short period of time. When oil price rises, oil consumers, such as manufacturing firms and
households, may not be able to reduce their demand for oil immediately. For example, individuals
still need to drive to work and manufacturing firms with long term contracts still need to run
machinery to meet target output. Similarly, an increase in oil price would not stimulate oil supply
in the short run. Additional supply generally requires the exploration of new reserves and
construction of new infrastructure for delivery which require substantial... Show more content on

Simultaneously, traditional manufacturing sectors would suffer from rising input costs and
reduced competitiveness in the international market. The net effect would be a decrease in total
real exports. Moreover, the reallocation of resources, labor and capital would occur in favor of
oil industry. The extent of these long run effects would depend on the magnitude of initial price
shock and the duration of price increases. Impacts of Rising Oil Prices on Canadian Output A
significant increase in oil price would have little impact on Canadian overall output but large
regional and sectoral implications. The oil producing provinces would benefit from rising
income while the oil consuming ones would suffer due to the higher cost of living and
production. This would also lead to reallocation of capital and labor across energy and other
industries. Potential impacts are expected to be more pronounced in the long run than in the
short run because of relative inelasticity of oil demand and supply in the short run. Canada is the
world s fifth largest oil producer, with daily production of more than 3.6 million barrels in 2015
(Statistics Canada). Despite large national production, Canada only produces about 5% of world
s total daily production and thus does not have large influencing power on the international oil
price. Since February 2016, oil price has shown an upward trend. It soared from USD$29.44 per
barrel in February 2016 to USD$54.45 per barrel in February

Screwtape Letter Research Paper
Indeed, the safest road to Hell is the gradual one... (Lewis 61).
Throughout The Screwtape Letters, Screwtape consistently reiterates his
idea that the gradual road to hell is the safest . Because Screwtape
places so much emphasis on the gradual road, one must stop and consider
it closely. This gives us three questions that we should consider: What is
the gradual road to hell? How does Satan use it? How can the
Christian be on guard?
The gradual road to hell is the small sins that can separate someone
from God without the person even noticing they are drifting away. While
many people may believe that the quickest ways into hell are big sins like
murder, rape, and stealing, Screwtape seems to think the contrary. He... Show more content on

Murder is no better than cards if cards can do the trick (60 61).
In reality, no sin is greater than another. Satan understands that, though
we often do not, and will use that to his advantage.
Satan uses the gradual road to hell to enslave the victim often without the victim knowing what is
happening. If the Christian knew
he was on the steep road down, he would surely notice and turn around.
As Screwtape says:
As long as he retains externally the habits of a Christian he can still be made to think of himself
as one who has adopted a few new friends and amusements but whose spiritual state is much the
same as it was three weeks ago. And while he thinks that, we do not have to contend with the
explicit repentance of a definite, fully recognised, sin, but only with this vague, though uneasy,
feeling that he hasn t been doing very well lately. (57 58)
If Satan is able to keep us entangled in sin, no matter how small, we begin
to drift away from God and follow our own path, while still thinking we are
close to God, when the reality is that we have given ourselves over to
something else. The reason Satan s methods work is because we are so often
focused on ourselves that we don t even see the road we are walking.

Examples Of Guerrilla Marketing
Guerrilla Marketing is an advertising strategy that focuses on low cost unconventional
marketing tactics to yield results. The term guerrilla marketing was coined by Jay Conrad
Levinson in 1984 in his book Guerrilla Advertising . The term was inspired by guerrilla warfare
which became popular during the Peninsular War, when the Spanish people rose against the
Napoleonic troops and fought against a highly superior army using the guerrilla strategy. The
term guerrilla was used in English as early as 1809, to describe the fighters (e.g., The town was
taken by the guerrillas ), and also (as in Spanish) to denote a group or band of such fighters.
Guerrilla warfare tactics includes ambushes, sabotage, raids and elements of surprise. Much like
guerrilla warfare, guerrilla marketing uses the same sort of tactics in the marketing industry.
Guerrilla marketing originally was a concept aimed towards small businesses with a small budget,
but this didn t stop big businesses from adopting the same ideology.
One of the most famous examples of guerrilla marketing is The, Blair Witch Project. The Blair

Discipleship Research Paper
Introduction Making disciples is the all encompassing purpose of the church. Many churches do a
tremendous amount of work toward the goal of making disciples, but sometimes it is in an
unhealthy manner. Just as a healthy person is going to have the most positive productivity in life,
a healthy church will also have the most constructive output of discipleship. In this paper, I will
explain how a healthy church is the goal for discipleship. In addition, I will examine my personal
church context and identify the top three areas that I need to focus on to create a healthier body of
Christ. Finally, I will discuss some initials steps that can be made to improve its spiritual health.
The Goal The apostle Paul refers to the church as the body of Christ. 1 Corinthians 12:12 says,
For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being
many, are one body: so also is Christ. The church is one body and all who are baptized are one in
Christ. Just as a body can and should be healthy, a church body can and should be healthy as
well. Putman et al. says that a healthy church looks and acts like a healthy body. While studying
to be a registered nurse years ago, I had the opportunity to dive deep into study of the systems of
the body. The body is tremendously complex and each system works with one another to make the
body function as a whole. If one part of the body is suffering, many times it negatively impacts
other parts of the body.

Meg is the Griffins 18 year old eldest child and only daughter. She is a self conscious,
unattractive teenage girl with severely low self esteem being portrayed as generally soft and non
rebellious. The other family members treat her as an object of abuse and belittle her by saying
she must be adopted. Megs character probably hits close to home for many teenage girls. Whilst
having her family members say she is adopted and ridicule her may be funny on the surface, many
teenagers can probably see what is wrong with

How Did The Plague Affect Athenian Culture
A sickness which started in the head then developed to affect every part of the body, is an under
rated, mild description of the Plague of Athens. Thucydides explains that the plague not only
harshly affected men s physical bodies, but also their actions. People began to become fearful of
becoming infected, which caused them to avoid visiting friends and family members who were
afflicted with the disease. Furthermore, the plague also negatively affected the character of the
Athenian people. The intense fear of having the disease even motivated men to become indifferent
to every rule of religion or of law : individuals began to act self indulgently because they believed
that they would not be alive long enough to be brought to trial or punished.

The Importance Of The Evolution Of Sexual Selection
As a result of sexual selection, many male animals have evolved extraordinary structures, usually
used as ornaments for attracting females, or weapons, for fighting mating rivals (Douhard et al.,
2017; O Biren et al., 2017; McCullough et al., 2016; McCullough and Emlen, 2013; Emlen, 2008).
The diversity of these structures is usually extremely high (both intra and interspecifically) and
have existed in many animal groups, including extinct trilobites and dinosaurs, to beetles, birds and
hoofed mammals (ungulates) found today (O Biren et al., 2017; McCullough et al., 2016; Emlen,
2008; Emlen et al., 2005; Emlen, 2001). Although both ornaments and weapons will increase
mating opportunities for males, the mechanisms shaping the evolution of... Show more content on

This bias is likely influenced by the appearance of horns in many female bovid species as well as
caribou, the only female cervid to evolve antlers, possibly as anti predator defences, a result of
natural selection (McCullough et al., 2016; Stankowich and Caro, 2009; Emlen, 2008; Bro
JГёrgensen, 2007). Although investigating beetles, McCullough et al. (2014) determined weapon
morphology to be more effective against species typical fighting, with sexual selection through
male male competition enhancing horn diversity. Only relatively more recently, have effects of
male male competition, within ungulates, to the diversity of horn morphologies received
increased attention, despite such studies being present within the field for over 50 years
(McCullough et al., 2016; Bro JГёrgensen, 2007; Caro et al., 2003). The evolution of horns within
artiodactyls is thought to have arisen independently at least three times, with a change in habitat
from closed to open woodland and at a crucial body weight of around 15 18kg, which is thought to
influence territorial defence by males (Janis, 1982). As a result, many investigations on horn
morphology diversity among male bovids and cervids has been completed to environmental factors,
scaling relationships of body mass and social variables that may

Micro Invertebrate Species Richness At Flinders Lake
The effect of latitudinal distance from shoreline on micro invertebrate species richness at Flinders
University Lake.
Introduction:
Species diversity is characterised by the diversity within an ecological community (McGinley,
2014) that incorporates both the total number of species in a region and the degree to which the
abundance of each of the species is similar; these concepts are termed species richness and species
evenness respectively. The Simpson s Index of Diversity is a measure of the biodiversitywithin a
community and is derived the number of species and their relative abundances (Knox et al., 2014).
The Simpson s Index of Diversity score ranges from 0 1; the higher the score indicates a higher
diversity.

In total, there were six replicates for each habitat. The dependent variable was species richness.
Results:
The data suggests Habitat A (close to shore) had a greater species richness in comparison to
Habitat B (one meter from shore), whereby the mean scores are 5 В± 1.67 and 4.5 В±1.52
respectively (see Table 1.0). Figure 1.0 compares the distribution of data for both datasets and
graphically illustrates the five number summary. Habitat A s graph has a greater range than
Habitat B, whereby 50% of the data from Habitat A obtained a species richness value from 5 to 8.
Conversely, 50% of Habitat B s dataset lies within 4 and 6.
Figure 2.0 further supports the notion above, where the Simpson s Index of Diversity is greater in
Habitat A in comparison to Habitat B, with a difference of 0.22. From Figure 3.0, it is evident the
species Copepod is most abundant in both Habitats A and B, whereby the proportional abundances
are 0.628 and 0.782 respectively.

Religious Homosexual Oppression
Oppression based on race, sex and sexual orientation:
Over the past 150 years, there have been many groups who have sought the North American dream
of liberty and justice for all. Examples are:
В•Americans African seeking an end to slavery.
В•Women campaigning to get universal suffrage.
В•And now, gays and lesbians are seeking the same equal rights and protections enjoyed by other
groups, including the right to marry.
This final conflict over homosexuality is a little different from the two conflicts based on race and
gender. Being an African American or a woman was never considered a crime. But being a
sexually active person with a homosexual orientation was, theoretically, a crime in 13 states until
the middle of 2003. Being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
1 They give far less emphasis to the findings of researchers. In this case, the findings of researchers
are generally rejected because they conflict with their interpretation of the Bible. Relying on their
interpretation of the Bible can be disastrous. Consider the debate over slavery in the mid 19th
century. In those days, some denominations enthusiastically quoted biblical passages to support the
owning of human slaves as pieces of property.
Liberals give far greater weight to the findings of scientific research, and are willing to abandon
the traditional interpretation of biblical passages in favor of new analyses which harmonize the
Bible and scientific discoveries. This also can be disastrous from time to time. Although science is
inherently self correcting, sometimes scientists develop theories which deviate wildly from reality,
are inaccurate, and cause harm. Always remember that one of the recipients of the Nobel Prize for
medicine was the physician who developed frontal lobotomies.
Typical conservative Protestant beliefs about homosexuality:
Conservative Christians generally believe that the Bible authors were inspired by God to write text
that is inerrant free of error. They often quote the Bible s seven passages often called clobber
passages which have traditionally been used to condemn homosexuality. They have generally
concluded that the Bible clearly and consistently condemns

The Fate Of America Essay
The Fate of America
According to the text, The difference between a democracy and a dictatorship is that in a
democracy you vote first and take orders later; in a dictatorship you don t have to waste your
time voting , (Bukowski 1). The decisions made in this election will affect the future of America.
According to Oxford Dictionaries the president is an elected head of state in a democratic
setting , (Oxford dictionaries 2). A good president is someone who is: experienced in political
matters, intelligent, a good leader, has quality communication skills, a good decision maker, and
confident in their ideals. This election will go down in the history books no matter what the result
is and will be looked back on and analyzed by future generations. The opportunity is there to elect
the first female president of the Unites States, Hilary Clinton. Women have gone from fighting for
the right to vote, now one is on the ballot with the opportunity to be the commander and chief. We
are on the brink of the third election where a Caucasian male will not be the president. Or, the
other side of this coin is the Republican Nominee Donald Trump. Donald Trump is a businessman,
television producer, and politician. He was born in New York City on June 14th, 1946. He
attended New York Military Academy from the age of thirteen, but he never formally served in the
military. He received control of his father s real estate and construction firm in 1971. He took his
father s business and turned

Health issues of bad cardiovascular fitness
Good physical health is a vital part of the well being of every person. A major component of our
physical health is Cardiovascular fitness . Cardiovascular fitness is the ability of the heart and
lungs to provide oxygen to the muscles for activity of an extended duration. If we have a good
level of cardio vascular fitness we are able to sustain activity for a reasonable period of time and
not fatigue easily. This can give individuals a variety of health benefits and allow more regular and
enjoyable activity to be participated in. This research report will examine my results of cardio

When exercising with friends and family you enjoy the workout. It is also a way to help keep
each other on track to your goal and reward each other and it s easier to stay motivated. When
choosing activities that appeal to you and that you can handle physically and suits your lifestyle,
that way you re more likely to stay motivated and find it an enjoyable process. When setting
goals that are realistic and you are likely to successes, aim for an amount of time, or type of
exercise to complete rather than losing weight, or gaining strength, this will help you work your

About 313 million major surgical procedures are performed worldwide every year (Weiser et al
2015). In developed countries, the rate of permanent disability or death after such procedures is
between 0.4 and 0.8% ( Minto and Bruce Biccard 2014).
Many patients undergoing major non cardiac surgery are at increased risk for cardiovascular
event which depend on patient related risk factors, and on the circumstances under which it takes
place ( Wirthlin and Cambria 1998) . Surgical factors that influence cardiac risk are related to the
urgency, invasiveness, type, and duration of the procedure (Mangano 2004). Vascular surgery

The prevalence of abnormal preoperative screening ECG results have been estimated to be
anywhere between 25% to 50%; the clinical implications of abnormal ECG findings is less clear,
however, in that a change in management was observed in 0% to 2.2% of patients (Gold 1992,
Munro 1997). So, at present there is no consensus regarding the need for a routine 12 lead
electrocardiogram (ECG) preoperatively on all general admission in adult patients (Sharma et al
2014, Rusk 2016 ). In different countries, the practice of obtaining preoperative ECG in adult
patients undergoing surgery is different. In my country, there are no guidelines by the national
cardiology society and anesthesia society on the need of preoperative ECG and different hospitals
even in the same city have different practice of obtaining ECG in the preoperative workup of
surgical patients. To answer this clinical question, PICO format question was developed for
literature search. In the PICO , P: stands for patient problem, I: for intervention, C: for comparison

  • 4. Enron Essay As Bethany McLean and Peter Elkind portray in The Smartest Guys in the Room: The Amazing Rise and Scandalous Fall of Enron, there was a chain reaction of events and a hole that dug deeper with time in the life span of, at one time the world s 7th largest corporation, Enron. The events were formulated by an equation with many factors: arbitrary accounting practices, Wall Street s evolving nature and Enrons lack of successful business plans combined with, what Jeff Skilling, CEO of Enron, believed was the most natural of human characteristics, greed. This formula resulted in fraud, deceit, and ultimately the rise and fall of Enron. Kenneth Lay created Enron in 1985 as a result of the merger of Houston Natural Gas and Internorth. Within a ... By turning the power off and on in California, they could control the price of electricity, essentially stealing people s money. Because they could manipulate the price, they made hefty bets on it, and in turn made over $2 billion dollars for Enron. Just before the fall of Enron, the insiders sold off nearly $1 billion dollars prior to the annunciation of the bankruptcy of Enron. What caused so many executives and employees to behave in such a fraudulent way? As Skilling put it, the biggest motivator for humans is money. Enron s executives received large quantities of stock options, motivating them to manipulate earnings which would cause an increase in the stock price. The nature of Enron s executives also played a big role in influencing employees to display similar characteristics of aggression, arrogance, greed and dishonesty. Executives at Enron were known to take extreme dirt biking trips to places like Mexico, where they could dangerously travel 1200 miles of rugged terrain. Stories of broken bones, stitches and flipping jeeps became legendary at Enron, and fed the macho personality of the employees. Top management gave its managers blank orders, to just do it (60). In turn, employees attempted to not only crush outsiders, but eachother. Skilling encouraged this behavior, saying he wanted them to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Speaking Unplugged Speaking Unplugged: 30 Activities for One to One Classes By reducing the amount of material that is imported into the classroom, the teacher frees the learning space for the kind of interactive, talkВmediated learning opportunities that are so crucial for language development. Scott Thornbury: Teaching Unplugged Introduction Like many teachers I suspect I used to turn up to my one to one classes with a pile of worksheets under my arm. The worst thing that can happen in a one to one class is running out of materials, I thought. They may have a confident and respected public identity in their first language but feel like children communicating with adults when speaking their second language, especially with their teacher, who they may respond to as a figure of authority and an imparter of knowledge. This power relationship is, in my opinion, rather unhealthy and unhelpful in oneВtoВone classes. As teachers, we are no more intelligent, cultured, openВminded or wise than our learners. We are equals in all respects, except our ability to use the English language. Therefore, I always recommend a getting to know your teacher activity in the first lesson. As well as giving you a good idea of your student s strengths and weaknesses, we can also use this activity to break the ice. Start by asking your learner to write down a list of questions they would like to ask you. Give them a few ideas, themes like work, family, hobbies, and let them spend a few minutes thinking and forming questions. Let them write the questions first rather than ask them to think them up on the spot. In realВlife situations, we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is how I wake up every morning on the roads of Pompeii, my new home. My pockets empty, nothing much on me. You can tell I am not the richest of folks, I am in fact the lowest class. Life isn t very fun being a slave but hopefully that will change soon, currently, I am not respected, no one ever makes eye contact with me and whenever I say hi, they just tilt up their head in a cocky way and ignore me. As I turn my head to go back inside I saw an orange, red flare in the night sky. It was on the volcano! Magma was oozing out of it like an overflowing bath. I quickly ran inside and grabbed all my valuables and rushed out the door, I stole someone s canoe (I m not sure who s). I then took my oar and pushed the boat out with a loud grunt. It let out a loud squeak as I hopped in, I haven t been in one of these for months! I thought to myself. It was shaking as if the earth was too, it was a struggle to get out in the water but I made it safe, all in one piece. It was dark and gloomy and the moment had a horrifying tone to it. I couldn t see past the surface of the water it seemed like I was on top of a layer of coal. I tried to sleep but the rocking of the boat was against that idea so I stayed awake and waited until morning. When the sun started to rise, a dark ashy cloud started to fill the sky, just as I thought it was over, the horrifying feeling struck again. The sky started lighting up and let out loud roars, lightning was upon us. Though it was morning, it felt like midnight, except, no moon, no light, nothing except me and my boat... That suddenly changed though, along with the roaring I started hearing cries of terror as flying cinders with a size ranging from pebbles to boulders started plunging into the water. It was hard to notice what was going on but I knew Vesuvius was erupting and people were dropping like flies. I tried to remain calm but it was a struggle. Just war theories usually address two main areas: First, under what conditions is it right to go to war? Second, is there a moral way to conduct a war? As for the history of just wartheories, the ancient Greeks and Romans sometimes discussed the moralityof war. Cicero (106 43 B.C.), for instance, argued that the only acceptable reason for war is self defence which included the right to defend one s honor. • 10. Why We Should Be More Open Minded What if I told you someone took $20 from cash register at Wal Mart how would you feel/think? Would you look down on them? Would you be mad that they just took the money while you go to work and earn your money? Would you feel sorry for them? Now what if I told you that person owns the store and was going to give the money to a family who was homeless? Would your opinion change about that person? When people are closed minded, they jump to conclusions. They only believe that there is only one answer or solutions. More people should be more opened minded because they are willing to receive new or different ideas, information, and beliefs. I am going to talk about why it is a problem being closed minded, how to be more open minded, and why you should be more open minded. Most of us are brought up with a set of beliefs and values and, throughout our lives, tend to surround ourselves with people who share the same values and beliefs. Therefore, it can be difficult when we re faced with ideas that challenge our own and, though we may wish to be open minded, we may struggle with the act of it from time to time.(Positively present) The problem with being closed minded is they use hostility, prejudice, indifference, and inattention to keep new or different ideas from gaining a foothold. Basically they don t try to let new ideas or beliefs cross their minds. Also people who are closed minded don t want to learn or change their opinion on certain beliefs. They like to think they ... • 11. Cyber Attackers Use For Hacking An Organization Phishing has become one of the most successful methods cyber attackers use for hacking an organization. It has become effective because it targets the weakest link, people. Cyber attackers understand that the easiest way to hack into an organization, infecting someone s computer or gain someone s password is to simply ask. Phishingworks by sending an email to millions of people pretending to be something they know or trust, such as a well known bank, online store, or government organization. The attackers do not have a specific target in mind nor do they now exactly who will fall victim, they simply know the more phishing emails they send out, the more people they can fool. Their goal is to trick people into providing the phishers with their private information. 2015 saw an increase of 23% of users opening phishing messages and 11% of users click on the attachment (Verizon, 2015). Further, phishing still remains as one of the top two concerns that organizations have and the numbers are growing. Since 2014 phishing concerns by the organizations have been increasing every year (Cyber Edge, 2016) and more money is put invested in technological means. Many organizations use technical means such as filtering messages, detection of fraudulent websites, and developing anti phishing warning systems (Egelman et al. 2008). However technical means are incapable of removing the threat of phishing (Abbasi et al. 2012; Dhamija et al. 2006) because an organizations weakest link, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Draper call the first step to this approach the distantiation, it is in this step that we will try to allow the text to speak for itself without falling into the temptation of speaking on texts behalf. These famous words still ring true in today s society as we struggle to overcome the scientific experimentation on animals. Animals have acted as the archstone of human civilization since the dawn of man, from a source of food, to companionship. However, in the past century, we have been blurring the line between environmental entitlement and environmental rape. Every member of the human race interacts and depends on animals, and we owe them a certain level of respect in our society. Animal Experimentation should be banned in all forms within the borders of the United States; prohibited under an expansion of the Animal Welfare Act. To do that he has to first renegotiate NAFTA or get rid of it (Fernandez 2).What is NAFTA and what mess it is creating? Basically, a trade agreement between the USA, Mexico and Canada formed by Bill Clinton, and it has let many Americans without jobs because most of them have gone to Mexico. That is the main reason Donald J. Trump hates this agreement and how it has destroyed the United States economy to bits and pieces. Additionally, what makes Trump fierce is that China has been stealing American trade secrets for many years. He clearly stated, If China does not stop its illegal activities, including its theft of American trade secrets, I will use every lawful presidential power to remedy trade disputes, including the application of tariffs consistent with Section 201 and 301 of the Trade Act of 1974 and Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962 (Fernandez 3). Clearly, this shows that Trump is serious about his job and doesn t care if he is dealing with China. China has been stealing all our trade secrets and Barack Obama didn t do anything about it. Hypocrisy is demonstrated and observed on an everyday basis in our society, and even in the rural town of Maycomb in the 1930s it is evident as well. In To Kill a Mockingbird, two children by the names of Scout and Jem start to see hypocrisymore and more frequently because of the events that happen to unfold. This includes , including an african american young man accused of something he did not do. This amazing novel by Harper Lee shows that hypocrisy is closely linked to privilege, and a dominating opinion about others. The characters Miss Gates and Mrs. Merriweather are great examples of hypocrisy and Atticus is a great counterexample, showing an effort of being larger than others in Maycomb. Miss Gates demonstrates hypocrisy in the novel. It is shown when she is speaking to Scout s class. She is teaching about Hitler, speaking about how he does not treat everybody equally. She expresses her beliefs against prejudice and the persecution of those who aren t like her. This is hypocritical because she does not treat everybody equally in her own town, and yet she is teaching the opposite of her actions. Cognitive anthropology emerged in the 1960s and is concerned with folk taxonomies and semantic domains as they are practiced in ethnolinguistics and by ethnoscientists in the New Ethnography. The New Ethnography is a name for cognitive anthropology known for investigative techniques devised by Harold Conklin, Charles Frake, and Ward Goodenough .Cognitive anthropologys theoretical orientation was emic (the insider point of view, which is different from etic or the outsider point of view). Cognitive anthropology is rooted in both Boasian cultural relativism and anthropological linguistics as well as cognitive processes. One major precursor for cognitive anthropology was the Sapir Whorf Hypothesis. The Sapir Whorf Hypothesis was shaped by Edward Sapir and Benjamin Lee Whorf and states that languages classify experiences differently. Other than Edward Sapir and Benjamin Lee Whorf, Kenneth Pike (a linguist) was influential on cognitive anthropology. He contrasted emic with etic and made the analogy between phonemics, which is the linguistic meaning created by sounds, and phonetics, which is the linguistic sounds that create meaning. • 28. George Washington The Indispensable Man Analysis George Washington is a towering historical figure who is considered the father of the United States. James Thomas Flexner captures the man, not the myth, behind this legendary icon in one concise single volume biography, Washington: the Indispensable Man. This book is a condensed but altogether new version of Flexner s previous four volume biography of George Washington. This smaller scale book is well written, and explores Washingtonas the human being behind the legendary icon (New York Times Book Review) to bring the reader to a closer relation to a man removed by time and history. Of time and history, GeorgeWashington had a great deal more of it which Flexner had to cover. Washington was a major national figure for twenty four years from his election as Commander in Chief to his death, and he was hardly twenty when his role in the French and Indian War made him internationally known. The wide ranging subject of Washington must have been difficult to fit into one encapsulated volume, but Flexner manages not only to do that but also writes straightforward in thought with flowing ideas and logical conclusions. The first chapter, of course, starts from George s Birth and tells of his childhood of growing admiration for the wilds of the frontier and the British Army. A little later, the book moves forward to Washington s first military blunder in inciting the French and Indian War which makes the name George Washington internationally known. • 30. Short Run And Long Run Effects Short Run and Long Run Effects In the short run, both global demand and supply of oil are relatively inelastic because it is difficult for them to make large adjustments to price changes in a short period of time. When oil price rises, oil consumers, such as manufacturing firms and households, may not be able to reduce their demand for oil immediately. For example, individuals still need to drive to work and manufacturing firms with long term contracts still need to run machinery to meet target output. Similarly, an increase in oil price would not stimulate oil supply in the short run. Additional supply generally requires the exploration of new reserves and construction of new infrastructure for delivery which require substantial... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Simultaneously, traditional manufacturing sectors would suffer from rising input costs and reduced competitiveness in the international market. The net effect would be a decrease in total real exports. Moreover, the reallocation of resources, labor and capital would occur in favor of oil industry. The extent of these long run effects would depend on the magnitude of initial price shock and the duration of price increases. Impacts of Rising Oil Prices on Canadian Output A significant increase in oil price would have little impact on Canadian overall output but large regional and sectoral implications. The oil producing provinces would benefit from rising income while the oil consuming ones would suffer due to the higher cost of living and production. This would also lead to reallocation of capital and labor across energy and other industries. Potential impacts are expected to be more pronounced in the long run than in the short run because of relative inelasticity of oil demand and supply in the short run. Canada is the world s fifth largest oil producer, with daily production of more than 3.6 million barrels in 2015 (Statistics Canada). Despite large national production, Canada only produces about 5% of world s total daily production and thus does not have large influencing power on the international oil price. Throughout The Screwtape Letters, Screwtape consistently reiterates his idea that the gradual road to hell is the safest . Because Screwtape places so much emphasis on the gradual road, one must stop and consider it closely. This gives us three questions that we should consider: What is the gradual road to hell? How does Satan use it? How can the Christian be on guard? The gradual road to hell is the small sins that can separate someone from God without the person even noticing they are drifting away. If the Christian knew he was on the steep road down, he would surely notice and turn around. The term guerrilla marketing was coined by Jay Conrad Levinson in 1984 in his book Guerrilla Advertising . The term was inspired by guerrilla warfare which became popular during the Peninsular War, when the Spanish people rose against the Napoleonic troops and fought against a highly superior army using the guerrilla strategy. The term guerrilla was used in English as early as 1809, to describe the fighters (e.g., The town was taken by the guerrillas ), and also (as in Spanish) to denote a group or band of such fighters. Guerrilla warfare tactics includes ambushes, sabotage, raids and elements of surprise. Much like guerrilla warfare, guerrilla marketing uses the same sort of tactics in the marketing industry. Many churches do a tremendous amount of work toward the goal of making disciples, but sometimes it is in an unhealthy manner. Just as a healthy person is going to have the most positive productivity in life, a healthy church will also have the most constructive output of discipleship. In this paper, I will explain how a healthy church is the goal for discipleship. In addition, I will examine my personal church context and identify the top three areas that I need to focus on to create a healthier body of Christ. Finally, I will discuss some initials steps that can be made to improve its spiritual health. The Goal The apostle Paul refers to the church as the body of Christ. 1 Corinthians 12:12 says, For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. The church is one body and all who are baptized are one in Christ. Just as a body can and should be healthy, a church body can and should be healthy as well. Putman et al. says that a healthy church looks and acts like a healthy body. • 42. How Did The Plague Affect Athenian Culture A sickness which started in the head then developed to affect every part of the body, is an under rated, mild description of the Plague of Athens. Thucydides explains that the plague not only harshly affected men s physical bodies, but also their actions. People began to become fearful of becoming infected, which caused them to avoid visiting friends and family members who were afflicted with the disease. Furthermore, the plague also negatively affected the character of the Athenian people. The intense fear of having the disease even motivated men to become indifferent to every rule of religion or of law : individuals began to act self indulgently because they believed that they would not be alive long enough to be brought to trial or punished. ... • 44. The Importance Of The Evolution Of Sexual Selection As a result of sexual selection, many male animals have evolved extraordinary structures, usually used as ornaments for attracting females, or weapons, for fighting mating rivals (Douhard et al., 2017; O Biren et al., 2017; McCullough et al., 2016; McCullough and Emlen, 2013; Emlen, 2008). The diversity of these structures is usually extremely high (both intra and interspecifically) and have existed in many animal groups, including extinct trilobites and dinosaurs, to beetles, birds and hoofed mammals (ungulates) found today (O Biren et al., 2017; McCullough et al., 2016; Emlen, 2008; Emlen et al., 2005; Emlen, 2001). Although both ornaments and weapons will increase mating opportunities for males, the mechanisms shaping the evolution of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This bias is likely influenced by the appearance of horns in many female bovid species as well as caribou, the only female cervid to evolve antlers, possibly as anti predator defences, a result of natural selection (McCullough et al., 2016; Stankowich and Caro, 2009; Emlen, 2008; Bro JГёrgensen, 2007). Although investigating beetles, McCullough et al. (2014) determined weapon morphology to be more effective against species typical fighting, with sexual selection through male male competition enhancing horn diversity. Only relatively more recently, have effects of male male competition, within ungulates, to the diversity of horn morphologies received increased attention, despite such studies being present within the field for over 50 years (McCullough et al., 2016; Bro JГёrgensen, 2007; Caro et al., 2003). The evolution of horns within artiodactyls is thought to have arisen independently at least three times, with a change in habitat from closed to open woodland and at a crucial body weight of around 15 18kg, which is thought to influence territorial defence by males (Janis, 1982). As a result, many investigations on horn morphology diversity among male bovids and cervids has been completed to environmental factors, scaling relationships of body mass and social variables that may ... • 45. Micro Invertebrate Species Richness At Flinders Lake The effect of latitudinal distance from shoreline on micro invertebrate species richness at Flinders University Lake. Introduction: Species diversity is characterised by the diversity within an ecological community (McGinley, 2014) that incorporates both the total number of species in a region and the degree to which the abundance of each of the species is similar; these concepts are termed species richness and species evenness respectively. The Simpson s Index of Diversity is a measure of the biodiversitywithin a community and is derived the number of species and their relative abundances (Knox et al., 2014). The Simpson s Index of Diversity score ranges from 0 1; the higher the score indicates a higher diversity. Biodiversity of micro ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In total, there were six replicates for each habitat. The dependent variable was species richness. Results: The data suggests Habitat A (close to shore) had a greater species richness in comparison to Habitat B (one meter from shore), whereby the mean scores are 5 В± 1.67 and 4.5 В±1.52 respectively (see Table 1.0). Figure 1.0 compares the distribution of data for both datasets and graphically illustrates the five number summary. Habitat A s graph has a greater range than Habitat B, whereby 50% of the data from Habitat A obtained a species richness value from 5 to 8. Conversely, 50% of Habitat B s dataset lies within 4 and 6. Figure 2.0 further supports the notion above, where the Simpson s Index of Diversity is greater in Habitat A in comparison to Habitat B, with a difference of 0.22. From Figure 3.0, it is evident the species Copepod is most abundant in both Habitats A and B, whereby the proportional abundances are 0.628 and 0.782 respectively. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Religious Homosexual Oppression Oppression based on race, sex and sexual orientation: Over the past 150 years, there have been many groups who have sought the North American dream of liberty and justice for all. Examples are: В•Americans African seeking an end to slavery. В•Women campaigning to get universal suffrage. В•And now, gays and lesbians are seeking the same equal rights and protections enjoyed by other groups, including the right to marry. This final conflict over homosexuality is a little different from the two conflicts based on race and gender. Being an African American or a woman was never considered a crime. But being a sexually active person with a homosexual orientation was, theoretically, a crime in 13 states until the middle of 2003. Being ... In this case, the findings of researchers are generally rejected because they conflict with their interpretation of the Bible. Relying on their interpretation of the Bible can be disastrous. Consider the debate over slavery in the mid 19th century. In those days, some denominations enthusiastically quoted biblical passages to support the owning of human slaves as pieces of property. Liberals give far greater weight to the findings of scientific research, and are willing to abandon the traditional interpretation of biblical passages in favor of new analyses which harmonize the Bible and scientific discoveries. This also can be disastrous from time to time. Although science is inherently self correcting, sometimes scientists develop theories which deviate wildly from reality, are inaccurate, and cause harm. Always remember that one of the recipients of the Nobel Prize for medicine was the physician who developed frontal lobotomies. Typical conservative Protestant beliefs about homosexuality: Conservative Christians generally believe that the Bible authors were inspired by God to write text that is inerrant free of error. They often quote the Bible s seven passages often called clobber passages which have traditionally been used to condemn homosexuality. They have generally concluded that the Bible clearly and consistently condemns ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. The Fate Of America Essay The Fate of America According to the text, The difference between a democracy and a dictatorship is that in a democracy you vote first and take orders later; in a dictatorship you don t have to waste your time voting , (Bukowski 1). The decisions made in this election will affect the future of America. According to Oxford Dictionaries the president is an elected head of state in a democratic setting , (Oxford dictionaries 2). A good president is someone who is: experienced in political matters, intelligent, a good leader, has quality communication skills, a good decision maker, and confident in their ideals. This election will go down in the history books no matter what the result is and will be looked back on and analyzed by future generations. The opportunity is there to elect the first female president of the Unites States, Hilary Clinton. Women have gone from fighting for the right to vote, now one is on the ballot with the opportunity to be the commander and chief. We are on the brink of the third election where a Caucasian male will not be the president. Or, the other side of this coin is the Republican Nominee Donald Trump. Donald Trump is a businessman, television producer, and politician. He was born in New York City on June 14th, 1946. He attended New York Military Academy from the age of thirteen, but he never formally served in the military. He received control of his father s real estate and construction firm in 1971. In developed countries, the rate of permanent disability or death after such procedures is between 0.4 and 0.8% ( Minto and Bruce Biccard 2014). Many patients undergoing major non cardiac surgery are at increased risk for cardiovascular event which depend on patient related risk factors, and on the circumstances under which it takes place ( Wirthlin and Cambria 1998) . Surgical factors that influence cardiac risk are related to the urgency, invasiveness, type, and duration of the procedure (Mangano 2004). The prevalence of abnormal preoperative screening ECG results have been estimated to be anywhere between 25% to 50%; the clinical implications of abnormal ECG findings is less clear, however, in that a change in management was observed in 0% to 2.2% of patients (Gold 1992, Munro 1997). So, at present there is no consensus regarding the need for a routine 12 lead electrocardiogram (ECG) preoperatively on all general admission in adult patients (Sharma et al 2014, Rusk 2016 ). In different countries, the practice of obtaining preoperative ECG in adult patients undergoing surgery is different. In my country, there are no guidelines by the national cardiology society and anesthesia society on the need of preoperative ECG and different hospitals even in the same city have different practice of obtaining ECG in the preoperative workup of surgical patients.
