Advice For First Writing Course At The University Of...
Advice to First Writing Course at the University of Central Florida
Writing courses can be challenging and that is why I decided to write this personal narrative. I
believe that a personal narrative is better for an advice column than a research paper. A personal
narrative would give more personal experience and insight on how the course was. It would be
more valid since it is true. I think people learn better when they read and hear something from the
person they are talking to rather than being about other people, especially when it comes to advice.
English courses, just like any core class, expects a lot from the students. ENC 1101 is the first

They can properly quote it or paraphrase it using MLA format. This will demonstrate the student
using strategies to better comprehend difficult texts. Students should also learn to adapt to different
writing contexts. Throughout this course, I had to learn new vocabulary such as rhetorical
situation and discourse community. These are actually types of essays I had to write during this
course. When writing these types of essays, one has to keep in mind their audiences and their own
experience. Lastly, students will consider how social, rhetorical, and technological contexts shape
writing because it reflects sensitivity to school writing as a social affair (McCarthy 231).
There are some constraints that I had to think about when deciding the genre of this paper. One
constraint to this personal narrative is the time I took this course. I took ENC 1101 during the
Summer B section. Summer B was only six weeks long and I had to learn the concepts of this
course in that amount of time when it usually takes around sixteen weeks. This made the course
much harder for me and other students. Especially because English is my second language, it
takes me longer to read and analyze articles. This was also one out of two of my first classes as a
college students. It is a different environment and I had to adapt to different situations and
expectations. Another constraint is about those students that already have credit for ENC

Essay On Ivy Tech
My dad and my uncles have been mechanics since they have been teenagers and have grown up
around it. Ever since my dad worked at a car shop I have got into cars. My first motor I ever
worked on was a weed wacker. It didn t run and I went threw the motor and checked why it wasn
t firing. It wasnt getting gas and when I put some in the tank it leaked. I had to replace two gas
lines. The next day my dad took me to a lawn place and I bought the fuel lines and I put them on
the weed wacker and pulled the string and it started. Ever since then I have wanted to be a
mechanic. Ivy tech is the closest college to learn what I am wanting to be. I am wanting to go to

around $3,995 a year. And with credits that transfer, students can save money by completing the
first two years of a four year degree at Ivy Tech ( Automotive Technology. ). When people are a
mechanic there is so many things you can work on. You can be part of the Advanced Diesel
Electronics Controls, Alternative Fuels, Automotive Service, Truck Chassis Systems and more.
When people are a mechanic, people learn something new everyday because they make new cars
everyday and not all cars are the same ( Automotive Technology. ). At Ivy tech when I take the
mechanics class I will have to take a mathematics class because I m not very good at math and
when guys are a mechanic you have to use all types of math. students have to use math with the

Rhetorical Analysis Of Rich s Speech
In her speech Rich attempts to change the perspective students have of education. She desires for
students to see they don t receive an education but they have the right to claim it. Her message is
simple, women have to take every opportunity in education as rightful owners because they have
the same right as men to be educated. Rich claims that students can benefit more from educationif
they claim it instead of thinking it s been given to them and take it for granted. Once students learn
to declare education as theirs and take full responsibility they will be more successful. Even though
the speech s main audience were female students of Douglass College Rich s words apply to every

The Comparison Of Couch Potatoes
For a long time, our nation has been proving their role as couch potatoes. Couch potatoes, people
who are lazy, inactive, or spend their time watching television instead of exercising, have been
expanding in size. There is not a debate of if but a debate of why our nation has succumbed to this
form of laziness. It is true that we are a nation of couchpotatoes because most people are lazy, eat
too much, get little exercise, and have formed a habit of being unproductive. Firstly, one cause of
becoming a couch potatois laziness. People are lazy if they are able to do something but are
disinclined to do it because of the effort involved. Instead, they seem to engage in some other,
less strenuous or less boring activity. This can lead to procrastination. To procrastinate is to
postpone a task in favour of other tasks that are typically less important or urgent (Burton). This
involves a lack of motivation. For example, a person is more likely to choose television over a
harder job such as exercise. Laziness also leads to idleness, or the act of doing nothing. In some
cases, it seems painful to people to put in effort on long term goals when in reality these people
just want immediate satisfaction. Secondly, another cause of becoming a couch potato is because
of little to no exercise. More than half of U.S. adults do not engage in activity levels consistent with
public healthrecommendations and 24% are not active at all in their free time (Dusen). We all
know exercise is

Coraline Quotes
In the book Coraline Coraline goes through a plethora of stages starting from being a naГЇve child
to eventually evolving into a girl with a strong identity who is fully aware of who she is and
proud of who she has become. At the beginning of the book Coraline is your typical kid who is
filled with curiosity and an urge for exploration. This is best illustrated on page 26 when Coraline
first ventures into the alternate universe. Coralinewent through the door; she wondered what the
empty flat would be like if that was where the corridor lead (Gaiman 26). Although Coraline is
unaware of her surroundings (due to the fact that she just moved there) this does not stop Coraline
from being adventurous and exploring the unknown. This act of Coraline going into the corridor
while having no idea where the corridor leads and without even thinking about the possible
consequences of this action shows Coraline s overall lack of maturity and her naive childlike ways.
Before Coraline makes her ultimate transition from naГЇve and fearless child to a brave, confident,
and independent girl she further displays her childlike ways by always having a strong desire to
receive what she wants; and if she fails to get what she wants she expresses her displeasure. This is
clearly illustrated by two quotes in the book. In the first quote Coraline is upset that her motherwill
not purchase a pair of gloves she likes. Coraline saw some Day Glo green gloves she liked a lot.
Her mother refused to buy

How Does Jane Austen Use Satire In Pride And Prejudice

Pride and
Prejudice
In Jane Austen s Pride and Prejudice, she uses satire to demonstrate the irony, hypocrisy, greed, and
other moral faults that the characters in her novel demonstrate. The main theme is, conveniently,
the title of the book. Pride lies in both Elizabeth and
Darcy, providing a constant barrier to overcome. Austen appears to show prejudice in the class
divisions of the novel demonstrating what it was like for marriage to occur in the early 19th
century. Mr. Darcy most definitely has a lot of wealth. We can think of him as a sort of Koch
Brother For this reason, he harbors a lot of pride and decided at a ball to reject Ms. Elizabeth
Bennet she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s a simple sentence but her novel is riddled with little tid bits of it. The very first and most
important sentence is, It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a
good fortune must be in want of a wife (Pride and Prejudice 3). Austen uses this to place the
central idea about marriage. It is ironic because readers eventually see that it isn t really the rich
guy that wants a wife, it is the women pursuing the rich man. Mrs. Bennet is the number one
example of this. She was characterized originally as only caring about getting her daughters
husbands, and in doing so she causes conflict between all of the relationships she was trying to
instigate her daughters into. More irony in reference to Mrs. Bennet again is Well, my comfort
is, I am sure Jane will die of a broken heart, and then he will be sorry for what he has done (Pride
and Prejudice 148). Once again demonstrating her poor moral values, she seems to care more
that Jane get married to Mr. Bingly than caring about her daughter s death. Whether it is merely
her just kidding, it is still a sad, greedy statement. Some very important irony is that what brought
Darcy and Elizabeth back together, is how lady Catherine tried to keep her away. Also important is
how Wickham being a gross man, getting paid off by Darcy made Darcy look very good in
Elizabeth s eyes. Probably the largest irony of all is that pride ends up with prejudice, and prejudice

Mount Vesuvius Research Paper
Review of Literature
Introduction History of Mount Vesuvius Mount Vesuvius is the only active volcano in mainland
Europe and is considered one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world! It s elevation is over
4,000 feet (1,219 m) and the distance around the base is 30 miles (48.3 km). This humongous
mountain is located in Ottaviano, Metropolitan City of Naples, Italy, which is now known for its
ancient castles and history. It took about 300,000 years for Mount Vesuviusto look the way it does
today. This volcano started forming on the ocean floor as a submarine volcano. This mountain is a
stratovolcano. A stratovolcano forms when it erupts under the ocean repeatedly, adding layers and
layers of lava to it as it occurs. This mountain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On every eruption, volcanic ash starts forming after all the gases in magma expand and escape
into the atmosphere. Volcanic soils, also called andisols, form after all the volcanic ash from
previous eruptions accumulates. These soils bond well with organic materials, which facilitates the
plants to utilize the minerals in the soil as nutrients. As a result of all the organic minerals in the
volcano s caldera, it is now covered with trees and plants.
Mount Vesuvius has erupted about three dozen times since 79 A.D. It s most recent eruption was
on the year of 1944. But it wasn t as powerful as the 79 A.D. eruption, which by the way is the
most famous and well known. The eruption buried three nearby towns, one of which was Pompeii.
It was buried under 18 feet (5.5 m) of rubble, ash and pumice.
In A.D. 79, the Roman naturalist and historian Pliny the Younger, just 18 years old at the time,
wrote letters about the event. According to the book Volcanoes of the World: Mount Vesuvius, He
wrote that it was like a storm of stones. He was the first person in history ever to record
information about volcanoes. As a result of this, scientists now call eruptions of the most
dangerous kind, like this one, plinian. Because his written records gives scientists the earliest sight
into a volcanic eruption, they believe that the 79 A.D. eruption lasted for about 18 hours and
created a cloud of ash 20 miles (32.2 km)

President Harry S. Truman s National Prayer Day
First signed in 1952 by President Harry S. Truman, National Prayer Day was recognized and
celebrated on the first Thursday in May.
In honor of this monumental event, residents of Blythe joined in with millions of people around
the country on May 4, to call humbly before God, seeking his guidance for local, state and federal
leaders and current issues.
Asking for God s grace to fall upon this lost world, members of the community opened up the
program with prayer, followed by singing, America The Beautiful.
Being reminded by the lyrics of the song, voices punctuated the line God shed His grace on thee.
With this year s theme inspired by Daniel 9:19, master of ceremony Clifford Short said, For Your

followed suit and signed the proclamation during the early morning of May 4.
President George Washington said in 1789, it is the duty of all the Nations to acknowledge the
providence of the Almighty God. He said, If we ever forget the that we are One Nation under God,
then we will be a Nation gone under, Short recited.
Through its purpose of having National Prayer Day, the task force organization seeks to mobilize
prayer in America and to encourage personal repentance and righteousness throughout the world.
With over five pastors in attendance and 20 plus of their church members present, prayer began
around 5:30 p.m.
Turning to 2 Chronicles 7:14, Short read, If my people, which are called by my name, shall
humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear
from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
Asking for prayer and repentance on behalf of everyone, Pastor Brandon of The Church of the
Nazarene prayed for the federal government, followed by Pastor Mick Catron of Calvary Chapel of

After more than 12 years of intense and monotonous work in a number of different factories,
Hernandez still, felt as poor as the day she first climbed onto the lower rungs of the global

Many different variables play a part in finding a solution to help end child labor. Unfortunately,
this form of labor plays a large role in Mexico s economy. Although the country has anti child
labor laws, the children of Mexico are forced to work for a variety of reasons. Most families force
the children to work due to their struggle with poverty and lack of income. Although some
organizations (like the North American Free Trade Agreement) look at solutions to help boost
Mexico s economy, large international corporations enter the country s struggling economy
capitalizing on it s low cost manufacturing and wages, thus forcing children to work. Solutions
must be looked at in order to stop kids from working their childhood away instead of getting an
education to ultimately help Mexico s economy.
The link between Mexico and poverty is a large reason why children are forced to work in factories.
Poverty began to be an issue for Mexico starting many years ago. In the 1940s, when
industrialization began taking place, Mexico s economy was growing at a rate of 6 per cent per
year (Latapi and Gonzalez). This increase in the economy created two new social classes: the
urban middle class and the new working class. By the late 70s, at least half of the working middle
class held jobs related in manufacturing (Latapi and Gonzalez). This employment gave wages high
enough to allow one worker the

Strength In Football
As presented by (Bompa,1999), Football is a very complicated sport in which there are many
components of fitness that are important. (Garcia Pinillos, 2015) specified The elemental
movement patterns in football require a rapid force development and high power output. It is
essential for a footballer to have good agility in order to avoid tackles and change direction
quickly in order to defend effectively and stop their opponents from getting past. For similar
reasons, Speed is also important for a footballer to possess as it can allow them to beat their
opponents to the ball across a short distance. Another important component is power, as shown by

Why Apple Should Not Release Information on the San Bernardino Shooting Apple Computer
Company is currently being thrown into a lawsuit in regards to specific information on a customer
s cell phone. The cell phone is known to have been used by the San Bernardino shooter last year.
The information on that phone could be very beneficial to solving the case. However, privacy
advocates argue Apple s interference could be detrimental to basic human rights. Apple themselves
argue writing a master key could cause problems with their cyber security. Not to mention the
financial jeopardy it could put Apple in. The FBI counters the master key argument with the
plea that they will only use it for one device. It s not the use of the key Apple is worried about, it
s about the availability of it. If Apple releases information regarding the San Bernardino shooting,
then it should cause a lot more problems than it could solve. According to Appleinsider.com, the
privacy advocates at Apple argue that if the government is granted the right to access the
information on that phone, it could be in violation of a couple privacy laws. For instance The
Privacy Act of 1974. The Privacy Act of 1974 provides safeguards against invasion of personal
privacy through the misuse of records by Federal Agencies (U.S. State Department, 2016). When
this law was written, the definition of records obviously didn t account for text messaging records.

Miles knew only that Big Foot was on his way to the Stronghold, and it was up to his army to
prevent him from joining Short Bull. Yet Miles was unaware that the Stronghold part was soon to

soldiers, troopers of the 7th Cavalry and their officers, went too far on the morning of December
29, 1890. Fueled by fear, possibly enraged by perceived perfidy, they shot without discretion, killed
without concern and left a lasting stain on the honor of the regiment. Whether who shot first is not
relevant, the very fact that the 7th Cavalry was locating and capturing Lakota leaders, confiscating
weapons, and massacring their people, is enough to justify genocide. The first criteria for genocide
is met when both Sitting Bull and the massacre at Wounded Knee happen killing members of a
group. Also again both cases can account for the second criteria of genocide causing serious
bodily harm to a member of the group. I see the confiscating of weapons as justifying the third
criteria of, deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring physical
destruction in whole or in part. The United States feared the Lakota Indians and saw them as a
threat, so disarming them would only make them easy to control or not revolute. Flying Hawk s

Evolution Of Gangs And Gang Related Activity Essay
The Evolution of Gangs in the United States Throughout history, divisions and factions have
been made amongst people based on race, ethnicity, religion, territory, and several other personal
factors. In most cases, people prefer to be within a group of individuals who are similar to them,
rather than feel out of place. One of the easiest ways for people to remain attached to their own
kind is for them to form special groups and bonds within certain areas, which have since been
labeled as gangs. When gangs first originated they were meant to keep certain groups of people
linked, because when everyone is dispersed those groups do not have as big of impact on societal
functions. However, since then, gangs have changed drastically, in both their purpose and
organization. Over the past five centuries, the United States has experienced a dramatic increase in
gangs and gangrelated activity due to technological advances among other factors, and this
increase is not expected to slow down in the near future. Many different definitions for a gang
exist, but according to DoSomething.org in their article, 11 Facts About Gangs, a gang is
defined as, A group of people who claim a territory and use it to make money through illegal
activities. However, this is a modern definition of gangs, and it does not necessarily define gangs
that existed in early history. Yet, some characteristics of gangs today are similar to characteristics
of past gangs. For example, members of a gang

Essay On Dido s Suicide
Beyond what drives Dido to take in the Trojans in their time of need, she is also made sympathetic
through her dealings with Aeneas and the gods specifically, that almost nothing that befalls Dido
during the course of the story is her fault. When she and Aeneas meet, there is instant attraction
between them; Venus, concerned about intervention from Juno, decides to take advantage of the
situation by making Didofall hopelessly in love with Aeneas. In a sense, this can be seen as
beneficial for Aeneas, since he loved her anyway and this prevented any form of reprisal from
Juno or the Carthaginians themselves; however, it also meant that Dido lost any and all control
over herself with regards to her new love and bound her entirely to the whims of the goddess.

Notably, Dido s suicide brings to light a great contradiction in her behavior. Before Aeneas even

What comes to your mind when you think of an interaction an authoritative figure (police, teacher,

authoritative figure, especially if you are a male. The intersection of race and gender for the African

Now consider the number of innocents that never get this chance at redemption. Currently the
Federal Bureau of Investigation is collecting racial and ethnic information and mapping American
communities based on crude stereotypes about which groups commit different types of crime and
sharing it with unknown state, local and federal agencies (American Civil Liberties Union,
2012). Since 9/11 the operating parameters Americans expect to protect their rights to privacy
have been obliterated. The FBI can now initiate an investigation of a person without the standards
of just cause that once protected the rights of all Americans. To the African American male this
is nothing new, random searches and undue investigations have always been a part of being an
AAM. From a police prospective there are ongoing efforts to equalize the authorities governing
the communities focused on diversifying the system and gaining trust amongst the inhabitants.
Jones Brown (2001) argues that to be black and male amounts to a fatal profile for which there
has been little to no judicial redress. She cites Natapoff (2004) in noting that one in four black
males 20 29 years of age is locked up, on probation or parole, or being pressured to snitch. The
research goes further to say that one in twelve in high crime areas are snitching under duress
causing a social breakdown of communities nationwide.

Effects Of Deforestation On Amazon Forest Resilience Research
There is a chain reaction due to deforestation. Deforestation leads to decrease in biotic pump
disrupting the water cycle leading to a decrease in transpiration and increase in temperature. Such
rise in temperature leads to lack of rainfall, increase droughts and forest fires to which the fires will
disrupt the water cycleeven more. The effects of deforestationon Amazon forest resilience research
by Zemp et al. (2017), build upon previous research done in the field of forestry studies and used
similar methods to collect data. Although they have come to some shortcomings such as the risk of

Zemp et al. (2017) s result on forest resilience in their simulation supports that the Amazon s
forest survival also decrease as there is an overlap between reductions of forest resilience with
deforested areas. Despite the evidence showing the detrimental effects of deforestation, Zemp et
al. (2017) s research focuses primarily on the quantity of the forest and deforestation, as such, the
research has a gap such that other geographical influences like fertilization, greenhouse gases, and
water use, are not accounted for. However, Zemp et al. (2017) had gained more understanding as
they had used other research papers, like [Spracklen and Garcia Carreras, 2015; Lejeune et al.,
2015], to close the unanswered gaps in the deforestation issue. Although the paper has explained the
effect of deforestation on water fluxes, the problem remains that in the short and long term,
regardless of any deforestation, many of the Amazon rainforest regions will continue to lose
precipitation and become more vulnerable to disturbances from fire and droughts, even more so in
the dry season (Zemp et al. 2017).
The Drought and Deforestation: Has Land Cover Change Influenced Recent Precipitation Extremes

young vs. old motif to demonstrate that life has no meaning. The story is about a deaf old man
who sits in a cafe every night and gets drunk and the waiters that must serve him. One waiter is
young and arrogant while the other is a little older and is more humble and understanding of
others. Throughout the story the waiters converse back and forth about what should be done
about this drunk old man as it gets later and later in the night. The cafe is used as a place for
those seeking quiet and the light instead of the loud dark bars. The light is an escape from the
nothingness of the world. In this story, it seems that we can only see places that are... Show more

What does this Hemingway story have to do with anything in our lives? We aren t waiters or an
old men so why should we care. This story exposes a sad and hopeless viewpoint on life so why
should we read it? I believe that this story is a wake up call. It reminds me to enjoy every
moment of my life and to not rush through my everyday endeavors. We shouldn t live our lives
like they are jobs and thinking with a have to attitude. Like my football coach, Coach Lavorato
says, live your life with a get to attitude not a have to attitude. The waiter gets to get up every
morning and go to work. He gets to go home to his wife. This can be applied to our lives as well.
For example, I get to go to a extraordinary school everyday. I get to go to football practice everyday.
I get to see my friends and family everyday. I get to do homework every night. I think
Hemingway s message is that he wants us to be inspired by this story and to savor every moment
of our lives. Don t be fooled by the rush and timetables of life, take things slow and enjoy your

The short half life of this isotope means that radiation levels reduce quickly. High density shielding
material should be used when storing F 18 but this is impractical when handling the material. The
predominant radiation emitted is gamma rays. Therefore, field contamination monitors should use
sensitive gamma detectors.

In part A, the gas produced by the manganese dioxide and hydrogen peroxide, then igniting it is
likely oxygen. During the glowing splint test, the splint reignited when it entered the test tube.
This is because oxygen fuels fire, therefore it was present in order for the glowing flint to

acid and baking soda, then igniting it is likely Carbon dioxide. This is because a white solid formed

hydrogen gas was also produced during the test. This concludes that hydrogen and Carbon dioxide

Fruit Fly Research Paper
Three Point Test Cross and Gene Mapping in Drosophila Melanogaster
Many traits incorporated into the design of the Drosophila, commonly known as the fruit fly, make
it an optimal specimen for scientific research. Their short life cycle, averaging between twelve and
fourteen days, and ability to be easily manipulated through controlled mating allows scientist the
opportunity to create large sample sizes with great ease. Although these tiny creatures have been
around since the days of ancient Greece, they were not thrown into the scientific spot light until Dr.
Thomas Hunt Morgan, an embryologist at Columbia University in New York, incorporated them
into his study on sex limited inheritance. By isolating mutant flies and performing test crosses he
was able to determine that genes were in fact located on chromosomes and therefore, create a
deeper understanding of heredity. In 1910 he discovered a white eyed variant that became the fuel
behind the new field of genetics. Throughout the following years, Morgan and his contemporaries
established the foundations of classical genetics, leading to a Nobel Prize for Morgan in 1933.
Linkage, in terms of genetic importance, consists of the capability of genes to be inherited together
when they are located together on a single chromosome. A technique associated with linkage is
genetic mapping. This scientific process has been used to located genes that, when they react
together, can cause medical conditions such as heart disease and

Community Water Fluoridations
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommendation for the optimal fluoride
level in drinking water to prevent tooth decay have changed from 0.7 1.2 milligrams per liter

percentage of children who were caries free and a significant decreases in the number of teethor

feel that in most cases they are missed informed and make their decision based on personal believe

countries in where fluoridated water does not exist, the high incidence of caries is evidence
throughout the whole population. I know that water fluoridation alone is not enough, but it is a
good start. Other preventing strategies such as nutritional counselling, sealants, oral health
education, regular visit to the dentist, fluoride applications, fluoridated toothpaste and mouth rinse
will also contribute to lower the risk of dental decay, and benefit the part of the population that does

Type I Taste Biochemistry
Abstract
There are complex molecular mechanisms involved in the sensation of taste, also known as
gustation. They are specific to the five differing taste qualities. Taste transduction involves taste
cells of varying structure and function. These taste cells comprise of type I glial like cells, type II
receptor cells, and type III pre synaptic cells. Through different mechanisms, the taste receptor cells
detect a respective ligand of sweet, bitter, umami, sour, and salty tastes. It has been suggested that
type I cells are involved in detection and transduction of salt through an ion channel. Type II cells
operate through G protein coupled receptors that belong to the T1R and T2R families. Neuron
synapses and ion channels aide in the performance of type III cells. Gustatory receptors play an
essential role in the detection and perception of tastes within the oral ... Show more content on

However, recent evidence suggests an additional ability of detecting salts through ion channels.
Receptor type II cells detect bitter, sweet and umami tastes. They express G protein coupled
receptors (GPCRs) that are associated with gustducin, the G protein (4). GPCRs are capable of
acting through varying second messenger systems to relay a signal to the interior of the cell. This
signaling produces increased intracellular calcium concentrations. Increases in calcium initiate ATP
release, thus triggering primary gustatory neurons in close proximity to type II cells. Type III taste
cells transduce sour and salty tastes through ion channels (5). Increases in Na+ concentrations for
salt tastes and increases in H+ concentration for sour tastes depolarize taste cells, releasing a
neurotransmitter, for instance serotonin (5). The neurotransmitters released from the cells, such as
ATP or serotonin, activate primary gustatory neurons. Signals are then carried by the axons of
primary gustatory neurons for processing to the gustatory

Exclusionary Rule Essay
The genesis of the Exclusionary Rule can be traced in early 1900s. It was established to ensure
that law enforcement officers followed the law in collecting incriminating evidence. The
Exclusionary Rule was designed by the Supreme Court making it a court made rule. The rule is not
like other normal rules that are created by statutes passed by the legislative bodies. The essay will
outline how the Exclusionary Rulewas developed highlighting the various cases that proved pivotal
in its implementation. The essay will also outline the various limitations to the rule as well as the
general applicability of the rule in today s courts (Calabresi, 2003).
Before the development of the Exclusionary Rule, courts relied on every evidence presented by the
state in criminal cases. Admissibility of the evidence was dependent on its relevance irrespective of
the manner in which the evidence was collected. In 1914, the Supreme Court demanded that law
enforcement agencies must conform to the Fourth Amendment. In Weeks v. United Statesthe
Supreme Court ruled that evidence presented by the state was inadmissible. The basis of their
decision was based on the fact that evidence collected from Weeks was secured through a
warrantless search. The ruling discrediting the evidence meant that the defendant was freed and ...

from within the scope of the Exclusionary Rule. The argument is that any evidence that would not

Essay on New technologies dismiss social relationships
In this fast changing world, new technologies have become essential in societies and have an
impact on everyone s life. This process of technologization has grown exponentially since the
nineties and the beginning of the Internet, which has significantly decreased boundaries of
communication. Some expert agreed that new technologies would make communication and
exchange easier, and thus give an incentive to communicate with other people. However, those
change have caused communication to change and people have totally change their way to

This process has changed a lot over centuries; people do not communicate the same ways. The
Internet access is a good indicator of this change because it allows people to communicate in
many different ways such as social networks, email, or video calls (Skype). According to the
INSEE, the number of French households with an access to the Internet grew from 12 % to 64 %
in ten years.
The first reason why new technologies dismiss social relationships is because more technologies
mean less face to face and therefore less communication. Most of digital technologies such as the
Internet, cellphones, television, and video games feature screens, which people use to
communicate. According to Krystel Tong s presentation, 57 per cent of people are more likely to
communicate online rather than by face to face. However, tone and body language are key points
of communication, therefore this lack of face to face communication can lead to
misunderstandings. According the BBC news, for some people this lack of interaction also
creates a feeling of isolation. A survey done by researchers from University of Michigan showed
that the more people use Facebook the more they feel lonely and deserted. For some other people,
new technologies can contribute to people acting violently. As Leo Kelion reported, in August
2013, Hannah Smith, a British teenager aged 14 killed herself after being persecuted for months on
the social network, ask.com.

How The Blood Type Of Blood
Abstract During this lab, students will learn how to perform a process as if it was a real blood
test. Working with four different synthetic blood samples, they will use synthetic antisera to the A,
B, and Rh antigens on red blood cells. Students are able to identify the blood type of each blood
sample and how the bloodtype is determined.
Introduction The blood is a very important fluid of our body that has many different ways that
keep us healthy. It transports important nutrients and oxygen to our cells and acts in the process
of removing wastes and carbon dioxide from the body.( American Society of Hematology . n.d.)
Also, this specialized fluid helps in defending the body by forming blood clots as a result of a
wounded blood vessel and carrying various cells that are crucial to our health. An average
human body s weight is made of seven to eight percent blood.( American Society of Hematology
. n.d.) The blood is made of different components that perform different actions. It is made of 55
percent plasma and 45 percent cells. ( American Society of Hematology . n.d.) The blood is
liquidy due to the presence of plasma. It is composed of water, proteins, fats, and salts. The
plasma is crucial in transporting the blood cells and bring waste products to be removed from the
body to the kidney and liver. ( American Society of Hematology . n.d.) The blood cells are main
components of the blood and have distinct purposes. Red blood cells, also known as erythrocytes,

the town s lottery starts in late June and most of the townspeople start gathering around 10 o

A Subarachnoid Hemorrhages
A Subarachnoid Hemorrhage, or SAH, is devastating and usually has a traumatic outcome.
Basically, an SAH is bleeding that occurs between the brain and what surrounds it. This surrounding
area is known as the arachnoid, thus the reasoning behind the name. The main cause of SAH is
cerebral, or brain aneurysms, because aneurysms usually have more fragile walls than normal
vessels, putting them at more of a risk to rupture. Subarachnoid hemorrhages are not something to
be taken lightly, as they have many dangers. Many people lack awareness of the dangers
accompanied with subarachnoid hemorrhages as soon as they occur, during the treatment of them,
and even with life after surviving the hemorrhage. First, as soon as a subarachnoid hemorrhage
occurs, there are many dangers to consider. While a brain aneurysm may not have any symptoms,
an SAH does and they are unfortunately very sudden. Since an SAH is bleeding from the arteries,
the rupture causes abrupt bleeding. From The Gale Encyclopedia of Medicine, Ms. Julia Barrett
describes that the immediate danger caused by subarachnoid hemorrhages would be ischemia. She
states, Ischemia refers to tissue damage caused by restricted or blocked bloodflow. The areas of the
brain that do not receive adequate blood and oxygen can suffer irreparable injury, leading to
permanent brain damage or death, thus agreeing that danger is present from the very start with
subarachnoid hemorrhages (Barrett). The rapid bleeding outside of the brain

116,000 residents for its 32 square millage.
The second city also selected for this report is located just south of Los Angeles California, the
City of Compton founded on May 11, 1888 was the eighth city to be incorporated. A brief history
on Compton and its population is that according to the U.S Census Bureau in 2010, the total
population size was at 96,455 residents. This number of residents is lower than what was
expected to see in California. After further investigation in the website, after five year span in
2015, the population of Compton raised to 97,955 residents. Although the smaller population
growth isn t what it seems to be like in Arvada Colorado. But in 2016 in Compton California the
total population size decreased to 97,550 residents. A decrease in 400 residents within the one year
span. Both cities roughly over 1,000 miles apart do share some similarities and differences between
them.
The first pivotal concept between the two cities is on education. Education is key to moving up
within the world. Being more educated in this life means that you gain status, and gain power.
Education is a solution for many problems that may arise in the future and have a significant impact
on various studies including incarceration rate. Nonetheless, the data found on the percentage of

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of The English...
English Language Learners There are many English Language Learners who may be at a higher
disadvantage because they are learning English as a second language. Being introduced to any
language is a challenging task for all small children; consequently, students who cannot
communicate with any school staff members are often left behind. Due to the variety of languages
in a school setting it would be difficult to have a dual immersion program set in place. However, in
Kern County, there are many small towns whose population is primarily Spanish speaking. These
town s students are faced with many difficulties as they try to adjust and transition to English
because a lot of their parents do not speak English themselves. Schools with a high population of
Spanish speaking students should offer a dual immersion program because it will provide their
students the necessary tools to become proficient English languagelearners.
Difficulties
Many times, school faculty may feel that incorporating a dual immersion program may be
confusing for students. They feel that their primary goal should be to learn English and there
should be no distractions. In the past, due to these conflicting ideas, Most schools did away their
long term bilingual programs, even though, prop 227 didn t actually outlaw learning in a foreign
language (Mongeau, 2016). Students would benefit from learning two languages because they may

A similar system is available in the United Kingdom and is known as the Individual Savings

These tax shelters are usually created by the government to promote a certain desirable behavior,
usually a long term investment, to help the economy; in turn, this generates even more tax revenue.
Alternatively, the shelters may be a means to promote social behaviors. In Canada, in order to
protect the Canadian culture from American influence, tax incentives were given to companies that
produced Canadian television programs.
In general, a tax shelter is any organized program in which many individuals, rich or poor,
participate to reduce their taxes due. However, a few individuals stretch the limits of legal
interpretation of the income tax laws. While these actions may be within the boundary of legally
accepted practice in physical form, these actions could be deemed to be conducted in bad faith. Tax
shelters were intended to induce good behaviors from the masses, but at the same time caused a
handful to act in the opposite manner. Tax shelters have therefore often shared an unsavory
association with fraud.
Tax shelters are any method of reducing taxable income resulting in a reduction of the payments to
tax collecting entities, including state and federal governments. The methodology can vary
depending on local and international tax laws.
In North America, a tax shelter is generally defined as any method that recovers more than

The Effects Of Music Education On Mainstream Education Essay
This research focuses on answering if music education has enough crossover benefit to include it
into our mainstream education. Two scholarly articles, a blog, a personal story and an online article
were selected and consulted to find the answer to this question. Many authors in many articles had
minimal criticism of musiceducationand most were in favor of music education. Findings were that
yes, music education does in fact have enough crossover benefit to include it into mainstream
education. Music education may be time consuming and sometimes expensive, yet the benefits of
self discipline, deeper conceptual thinking, more developed brain function, and endless creativity of
students makes it very worthwhile.
Henry David Thoreau once stated, If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it
is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however

are simply fact. Though fact may be fact, opinion and perspective plays a huge role in our
society, especially the education side of society. Everyone on Earth has experienced music in some
way, but a question some have pondered is, does music education have enough crossover benefit to
academics to include it in our mainstream education? As we explore the pages upon pages of

seen how difficult overcoming a mental illness is especially without a high level of motivation. I
greatly see the value of not only helping people overcome related issues but allowing them to feel
like the valued and respected member of society that they are; I believe we all deserve the chance to

The Characteristics And Effects Of The Human Brain
The Human Brain is the most important organ in the body. Much like the headquarters of the body.
Without the brain the rest of the body will suffer. The brain also creates different traits and
personalities. How ever when the brain doesn t function properly it will cause many effects to an
individual. These effects can range from minimal to severe, depending on what is wrong with the
brain.
The human brain is protected by a bone structure in a form of a skull. The brain has a light pink,
pail, and noodle look to it. It has lines in the brain to section parts of the brain. The brain feels
like jello, it s stays in place but squishy. Put to much pressure on it, it will break. The human
brain is very sensitive. The human brain is also wet and slimy, like the feeling of boggers. The
human brain has its own odd smell. Like rotting food in the trash. The average brain weighs
about three pounds. Robbie Gonzalez stated Assume it feels solid, firm, almost rubber like. But
the brains you encounter in a lab setting have almost always been fixed and preserved with
chemicals like formaldehyde, which have a dramatic effect on the texture and firmness of tissue
like brain matter (Gizmodo). What Robbie is saying that brains that are in lab class feel different
than a fresh brain. The reason why they feel different is that in the lab their preserved with
chemicals. That s what Robbie was talking about.
There are three major components that make up the brain. The Cerebrum, Brainstem,

Nellie Bly Research Paper
The lasting Influence of Nellie Bly
Pinorrer of journalism, did not give up, a hero to many traits that all describe Nellie Bly. She got
to this point by being brave and standing out. Nellie Bly was an awe inspiring journalist, women s

influence made a major impact on society s view of women journalist and the legal systems. Nellie
Bly was most influential when it came to journalism in American history.
Growing up Bly had a hard life. At a young age, her father died forcing her mother to take on new

didn t do much. While everyone else dressed in drab browns and grays, she stood out in pink. Her
mother taught her how to attract attention and revel in it. These were lessons that were never lost.
(Bradner, Liesl. Nellie Bly: Crusading Troublemaker. HistoryNet, 29 Dec. 2017,

The Current State of the CHinese Economic System
The current state of the Chinese economic system has drawn international attention and praise due
to its overwhelmingly positive statistical growth. This growth, according to the nation s leader,
stems from what its government calls strides toward common prosperity. As of 2013, China s
leaders proclaim to be moving toward a state of theoretical consciousness. In China, consistency and
persistence is promoted over spontaneity within the confines of a sound economic structure, which
has created a fertile ground for socialism to grow. A recent documentary composed by a
conglomerate of media outlets, depicts the current economic landscape of China. Its story unravels
to present the growing city of Shanghaias progressive, oppressive, and modern; yet, its growth has
been rooted in older communist practices, given to much economic success and an uncertain future
( City of Dreams ). The changes that have taken place in modern China since the late 1970 s has
grown its economy to unprecedented ends, and by unprecedented means. The transformation into
an industrialized capitalistic society has catapulted its development into an uncharted realm,
prompting much discussion on its future impact on the world at large. In the following report, we
will examine China s economical changes in three decades, encompassing three distinct phases of
economic reform: recovery, establishment, and improvement.
Socialism, combined with practice deliberately and uniquely designed by China s republic, has

Judaism Religion
Judaism is a religion that goes back many centuries. The earliest know account of this religion dates
around 2000 B.C.E. This is the approximate time a man named Abraham made a covenant with God
that also extended to his descendants. It was not until the first century C.E. that classical Judaism
came into being. Until that time these people were called Israelites. Besides Abraham, the main
figures in Judaismare Isaac, Jacob and the prophet Moses. Still, followers of Judaism only believe
in one true godand do not worship anyone or anything else. They even avoid spelling the word God
to not risk disrespecting His name. Unlike other religions, much of Judaism is very general and
open to interpretation. Most of Jewish teaching focuses on relationships

Essay on The Sound of Waves by Yukio Mishima
In The Sound of Waves, Yukio Mishima creates an exquisite story which has strong idealistic and
mythic features. Although Mishima writes of young love and tranquility in The Sound of Waves,
his later works are categorized as aggressive and containing violent sexual actions. Even Mishima
himself referred to The Sound of Waves as that great joke on the public (qtd. in Ishiguro 385).
However, one cannot compare this novel to Mishima s other literary pieces; in order to classify it as
romanticized, one must evaluate the usage of imagery, an idealized setting, mythical allusions, and
characterizations which establish the romantic driven qualities in The Sound of Waves. It is
apparent that nature plays a major role throughout The Sound of... Show more content on

Mythical allusions described by Mishima serve to highlight the other qualities within The Sound
of Waves. When Shinji first catches sight of Hatsue, she is letting her hair stream and her cheeks
glow (7). These characteristics are shown many times throughout the novel and resemble Vergil s
depictions of goddesses such as Venus and Juno in the Aeneid. One conflict that Hatsue must
overcome is when Yasuo attempts to rape her; his plot was obstructed by the intervention of a
furious hornet. Hatsue sees the flashing of the little golden colored wings and wonders what god
it [is] who [has] come to her rescue. (93).The interference of the hornet seems far fetched, for most
would think that the hornet would not only attack Yasuo, but also Hatsue. In this case, Mishima
created an idealized situation were nature as saved Hatsue from the immoral actions of Yasuo. The
setting of the island Uta jima is idealized, which creates a place where the romance between
Hatsue and Shinji can seem realistic. The reader begins the novel with a description of this island
and two spots with surpassingly beautiful views. (3).After this, the reader is introduced to a young
man, Shinji, climbing up the stairs of the lighthouse. Mishima depicts this area as one of the most
beautiful views on the island. The

Evidence-Based Practice Model Analysis
Nurses agree that having a consistent process for screening for depression increases the quality
of care. Routine screening for depression and suicidal ideation is often overlooked or omitted
due the comfort level of individual providers. Early identification of depression in family
members of active duty soldiers is key in referral for additional services. The evidenced based
practice (EBP) project by Yackel, McKennan, Fox Deise (2009) was designed to develop, to
implement, and evaluate a standardized nursing procedure to improve the screening of family
members for depression... (p. 139). The setting for the project was a military family practice clinic
on a U.S. Army post in Hawaii. The clinic has an enrollment of over 14,000 members... Show more

First and foremost is recognizing the need for early intervention leads to better outcomes. By
developing a routine and standardized practice change of screening for depression, a larger number
of patients will receive the care needed decreasing the need for hospitalization and decreasing
mortality rates. Incorporating the nurses into the screening process to ensure compliance along
with freeing up the physician or practitioner to focus on other medical issues the patient may have
presented with is an improved efficiency measure. Assigning a team to pilot the project with the
objective of identifying any barriers to implementation allowed the process the biggest chance of

Pros And Cons Of The Fifth Amendment
Heritage Essay 2nd Rough Draft The death penalty is not only constitutional, it is a necessary part
of the American judicial system. In America, the death penalty is issued to those found guilty of a
capital offence with aggravating circumstances. These aggravating circumstances can include
murder with a kidnapping or murder commited to avoid arrest. This is, to ensure that the death
penalty is only dealt to those that truly have committed grave crimes. The Fifth Amendment of the
Constitution guarantees that a person will not be, deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due
process of law (US Const. Amend. V). The Eighth Amendment guarantees that, cruel and unusual
punishments (US Const. Amend. XIII) will not be inflicted on convicted criminals. The death
penalty does not oppose these amendments because of they way they were specifically written. The
Fifth Amendment specifically states, without due process of law (US Const. Amend. V). This is
written very particularly to mean that with, due process of law (US Const. Amend. V) the rights
that have been guaranteed in this amendment can be taken from a person. The writers of the
constitutional meticulously wrote this in such a way so that the rights of a tried and convicted
criminal can be rescinded. This means that the death penalty, when given to a tried and convicted
criminal, does not violate the Fifth Amendment. The writers of the Constitution wrote it such that it
did not invalidate the date penalty.

Public Order Crimes
Assignment #4Ingrid Victorero
1. What are public order crimes, and how are they different from violent and property crimes?
Explain how moral entrepreneurship affects the public perception of morality and thus the creation
of new public order crimes.
Answer:
Public order crimes are crimes against the public consensus of morality. Sometimes public order
crimes are called victimless crimes, as there is no clear victim that can be identified. A crime
against the public order is quite different than a crime against a person. Violent and property
crimes are a direct victimization against a person. The victim has been affected by violence and
the act has caused a loss of something of value. Moral entrepreneurs can be ... Show more content

For this reason, victimless crimes are often called consensual crimes. One common example of a
victimless crime is prostitution. Offering sexual favors in exchange for money is considered a
crime in many places. Both the solicitor and the prostitute can be arrested for violating public
decency laws. If, however, both parties are deemed to have committed the illegal act consensually,
then neither party may be considered victims in the eyes of the law. Prostitution is often not a free
choice. Prostitution is usually accompanied by forms of force or enslavement Most prostitutes use
drugs regularly. Addiction means they must stay to pay for drugs. Pimping, gangsterism; runaway
girls to cities or immigrants who are promised good jobs. Often, the initial loss of innocence was
forced by sexual abuse / rape. Street prostitution becomes trafficking when a pimp uses force, fraud
and/or coercion to maintain control over the person providing commercial sexual services and cause
the person to engage in commercial sex acts. An individual engaged in street prostitution under the
age of 18 is considered a victim of sex trafficking regardless of the presence of force, fraud or
coercion. Unfortunately, when purchasing a prostitute, many buyers don t think about the serious
consequences that come with street sex. Sexually transmitted disease, infidelity, violence, thefts and
many crimes take place with the average prostitute exchange. Wives, husbands and innocent

Essay on Stanislao Cannizzaro Quest for Knowledge
Throughout history, the curiosities of obtaining knowledge of facts that show the operation of
general laws have resulted into the improvements of today s society. Such curiosity of chemical
reactions coiled in the minds of John Dalton in the atomic theory, Rosalind Franklin with genetics,
and most importantly Antoine Lavoisier the father of modern chemistry. All who, worked
extensively to acquire the understanding that fascinated them most, chemistry. Another chemist
who sought after the same knowledge was Stanislao Cannizzaro. Studying organic chemistry
Cannizzaro explained how certain elements lacked the hydrogen atomin what is know n as the

disproportionation of an aldehyde lacking a hydrogen atom in the alpha position. Leaving
Alessandria Cannizzaro became a professor of chemistry at the University of Genoa. While there he
wrote letters outlining the differences between atoms and molecules. Sending this letter to
Sebabastino de Luca, the chair at Pisa, the letter was published in the Pisa journal as, Sunto , in
which would be republished and translated into other languages.
Ideas based on Avogadro s law, Cannizzaro clarified the distinctions of molecules and atoms
giving a solid foundation for the formulation of the periodic law. Presenting the information in
such a clear way during a time where Avogadro s theory seemed unnecessary Cannizzaro made it
easy for scientists to grasp it and Avogadro s law became the standard. At the 1860 Karlsruhe
Congress, scientist became more aware of the Sunto and the convention was held in order to
develop a more precise definition of the atom and molecule. Explaining once again, the terms of
atom , physical molecule, and chemical molecule the third day of the congress his presentation
failed and it was decided that scientist could choose to use either Berzelius s or Avogadro s system.
However, Cannizzaro s explanation and Sunto was not finished, Angelo Pavesi, a professor at pavia,
handed out the Sunto and it

  • 2. Advice For First Writing Course At The University Of... Advice to First Writing Course at the University of Central Florida Writing courses can be challenging and that is why I decided to write this personal narrative. I believe that a personal narrative is better for an advice column than a research paper. A personal narrative would give more personal experience and insight on how the course was. It would be more valid since it is true. I think people learn better when they read and hear something from the person they are talking to rather than being about other people, especially when it comes to advice. English courses, just like any core class, expects a lot from the students. ENC 1101 is the first english and writing class students will encounter when first starting undergraduate school ... Students should also learn to adapt to different writing contexts. Throughout this course, I had to learn new vocabulary such as rhetorical situation and discourse community. These are actually types of essays I had to write during this course. When writing these types of essays, one has to keep in mind their audiences and their own experience. Lastly, students will consider how social, rhetorical, and technological contexts shape writing because it reflects sensitivity to school writing as a social affair (McCarthy 231). There are some constraints that I had to think about when deciding the genre of this paper. One constraint to this personal narrative is the time I took this course. I took ENC 1101 during the Summer B section. Summer B was only six weeks long and I had to learn the concepts of this course in that amount of time when it usually takes around sixteen weeks. This made the course much harder for me and other students. Especially because English is my second language, it takes me longer to read and analyze articles. This was also one out of two of my first classes as a college students. It is a different environment and I had to adapt to different situations and expectations. Another constraint is about those students that already have credit for ENC ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Comparison Of Couch Potatoes For a long time, our nation has been proving their role as couch potatoes. Couch potatoes, people who are lazy, inactive, or spend their time watching television instead of exercising, have been expanding in size. There is not a debate of if but a debate of why our nation has succumbed to this form of laziness. It is true that we are a nation of couchpotatoes because most people are lazy, eat too much, get little exercise, and have formed a habit of being unproductive. Firstly, one cause of becoming a couch potatois laziness. People are lazy if they are able to do something but are disinclined to do it because of the effort involved. Instead, they seem to engage in some other, less strenuous or less boring activity. This can lead to procrastination. To procrastinate is to postpone a task in favour of other tasks that are typically less important or urgent (Burton). This involves a lack of motivation. For example, a person is more likely to choose television over a harder job such as exercise. Laziness also leads to idleness, or the act of doing nothing. In some cases, it seems painful to people to put in effort on long term goals when in reality these people just want immediate satisfaction. Secondly, another cause of becoming a couch potato is because of little to no exercise. More than half of U.S. adults do not engage in activity levels consistent with public healthrecommendations and 24% are not active at all in their free time (Dusen). We all know exercise is ... • 6. Coraline Quotes In the book Coraline Coraline goes through a plethora of stages starting from being a naГЇve child to eventually evolving into a girl with a strong identity who is fully aware of who she is and proud of who she has become. At the beginning of the book Coraline is your typical kid who is filled with curiosity and an urge for exploration. This is best illustrated on page 26 when Coraline first ventures into the alternate universe. Coralinewent through the door; she wondered what the empty flat would be like if that was where the corridor lead (Gaiman 26). Although Coraline is unaware of her surroundings (due to the fact that she just moved there) this does not stop Coraline from being adventurous and exploring the unknown. This act of Coraline going into the corridor while having no idea where the corridor leads and without even thinking about the possible consequences of this action shows Coraline s overall lack of maturity and her naive childlike ways. Before Coraline makes her ultimate transition from naГЇve and fearless child to a brave, confident, and independent girl she further displays her childlike ways by always having a strong desire to receive what she wants; and if she fails to get what she wants she expresses her displeasure. This is clearly illustrated by two quotes in the book. In the first quote Coraline is upset that her motherwill not purchase a pair of gloves she likes. • 7. How Does Jane Austen Use Satire In Pride And Prejudice Max Ayotte Katherine Miner AP English 12 Friday, April 10th, 2015 Pride and Prejudice In Jane Austen s Pride and Prejudice, she uses satire to demonstrate the irony, hypocrisy, greed, and other moral faults that the characters in her novel demonstrate. The main theme is, conveniently, the title of the book. Pride lies in both Elizabeth and Darcy, providing a constant barrier to overcome. Austen appears to show prejudice in the class divisions of the novel demonstrating what it was like for marriage to occur in the early 19th century. Mr. Darcy most definitely has a lot of wealth. We can think of him as a sort of Koch Brother For this reason, he harbors a lot of pride and decided at a ball to reject Ms. Elizabeth Bennet she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It s a simple sentence but her novel is riddled with little tid bits of it. The very first and most important sentence is, It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife (Pride and Prejudice 3). Austen uses this to place the central idea about marriage. It is ironic because readers eventually see that it isn t really the rich guy that wants a wife, it is the women pursuing the rich man. Mrs. Bennet is the number one example of this. She was characterized originally as only caring about getting her daughters husbands, and in doing so she causes conflict between all of the relationships she was trying to instigate her daughters into. More irony in reference to Mrs. Bennet again is Well, my comfort is, I am sure Jane will die of a broken heart, and then he will be sorry for what he has done (Pride and Prejudice 148). Once again demonstrating her poor moral values, she seems to care more that Jane get married to Mr. Bingly than caring about her daughter s death. Whether it is merely her just kidding, it is still a sad, greedy statement. Some very important irony is that what brought Darcy and Elizabeth back together, is how lady Catherine tried to keep her away. Also important is how Wickham being a gross man, getting paid off by Darcy made Darcy look very good in Elizabeth s eyes. Probably the largest irony of all is that pride ends up with prejudice, and prejudice ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On every eruption, volcanic ash starts forming after all the gases in magma expand and escape into the atmosphere. Volcanic soils, also called andisols, form after all the volcanic ash from previous eruptions accumulates. These soils bond well with organic materials, which facilitates the plants to utilize the minerals in the soil as nutrients. As a result of all the organic minerals in the volcano s caldera, it is now covered with trees and plants. Mount Vesuvius has erupted about three dozen times since 79 A.D. It s most recent eruption was on the year of 1944. But it wasn t as powerful as the 79 A.D. eruption, which by the way is the most famous and well known. The eruption buried three nearby towns, one of which was Pompeii. It was buried under 18 feet (5.5 m) of rubble, ash and pumice. In A.D. 79, the Roman naturalist and historian Pliny the Younger, just 18 years old at the time, wrote letters about the event. According to the book Volcanoes of the World: Mount Vesuvius, He wrote that it was like a storm of stones. He was the first person in history ever to record information about volcanoes. As a result of this, scientists now call eruptions of the most dangerous kind, like this one, plinian. Many different variables play a part in finding a solution to help end child labor. Unfortunately, this form of labor plays a large role in Mexico s economy. Although the country has anti child labor laws, the children of Mexico are forced to work for a variety of reasons. Most families force the children to work due to their struggle with poverty and lack of income. Although some organizations (like the North American Free Trade Agreement) look at solutions to help boost Mexico s economy, large international corporations enter the country s struggling economy capitalizing on it s low cost manufacturing and wages, thus forcing children to work. Solutions must be looked at in order to stop kids from working their childhood away instead of getting an education to ultimately help Mexico s economy. The link between Mexico and poverty is a large reason why children are forced to work in factories. Poverty began to be an issue for Mexico starting many years ago. In the 1940s, when industrialization began taking place, Mexico s economy was growing at a rate of 6 per cent per year (Latapi and Gonzalez). This increase in the economy created two new social classes: the urban middle class and the new working class. By the late 70s, at least half of the working middle class held jobs related in manufacturing (Latapi and Gonzalez). This employment gave wages high enough to allow one worker the ... Why Apple Should Not Release Information on the San Bernardino Shooting Apple Computer Company is currently being thrown into a lawsuit in regards to specific information on a customer s cell phone. The cell phone is known to have been used by the San Bernardino shooter last year. The information on that phone could be very beneficial to solving the case. However, privacy advocates argue Apple s interference could be detrimental to basic human rights. Apple themselves argue writing a master key could cause problems with their cyber security. Not to mention the financial jeopardy it could put Apple in. The FBI counters the master key argument with the plea that they will only use it for one device. It s not the use of the key Apple is worried about, it s about the availability of it. If Apple releases information regarding the San Bernardino shooting, then it should cause a lot more problems than it could solve. According to Appleinsider.com, the privacy advocates at Apple argue that if the government is granted the right to access the information on that phone, it could be in violation of a couple privacy laws. Fueled by fear, possibly enraged by perceived perfidy, they shot without discretion, killed without concern and left a lasting stain on the honor of the regiment. Whether who shot first is not relevant, the very fact that the 7th Cavalry was locating and capturing Lakota leaders, confiscating weapons, and massacring their people, is enough to justify genocide. The first criteria for genocide is met when both Sitting Bull and the massacre at Wounded Knee happen killing members of a group. Also again both cases can account for the second criteria of genocide causing serious bodily harm to a member of the group. I see the confiscating of weapons as justifying the third criteria of, deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring physical destruction in whole or in part. • 14. Evolution Of Gangs And Gang Related Activity Essay The Evolution of Gangs in the United States Throughout history, divisions and factions have been made amongst people based on race, ethnicity, religion, territory, and several other personal factors. In most cases, people prefer to be within a group of individuals who are similar to them, rather than feel out of place. One of the easiest ways for people to remain attached to their own kind is for them to form special groups and bonds within certain areas, which have since been labeled as gangs. When gangs first originated they were meant to keep certain groups of people linked, because when everyone is dispersed those groups do not have as big of impact on societal functions. However, since then, gangs have changed drastically, in both their purpose and organization. Over the past five centuries, the United States has experienced a dramatic increase in gangs and gangrelated activity due to technological advances among other factors, and this increase is not expected to slow down in the near future. Many different definitions for a gang exist, but according to DoSomething.org in their article, 11 Facts About Gangs, a gang is defined as, A group of people who claim a territory and use it to make money through illegal activities. The story is about a deaf old man who sits in a cafe every night and gets drunk and the waiters that must serve him. One waiter is young and arrogant while the other is a little older and is more humble and understanding of others. Throughout the story the waiters converse back and forth about what should be done about this drunk old man as it gets later and later in the night. The cafe is used as a place for those seeking quiet and the light instead of the loud dark bars. The light is an escape from the nothingness of the world. We aren t waiters or an old men so why should we care. This story exposes a sad and hopeless viewpoint on life so why should we read it? I believe that this story is a wake up call. It reminds me to enjoy every moment of my life and to not rush through my everyday endeavors. We shouldn t live our lives like they are jobs and thinking with a have to attitude. Like my football coach, Coach Lavorato says, live your life with a get to attitude not a have to attitude. The waiter gets to get up every morning and go to work. He gets to go home to his wife. This can be applied to our lives as well. For example, I get to go to a extraordinary school everyday. I get to go to football practice everyday. I get to see my friends and family everyday. I get to do homework every night. I think Hemingway s message is that he wants us to be inspired by this story and to savor every moment of our lives. Fruit Fly Research Paper Three Point Test Cross and Gene Mapping in Drosophila Melanogaster Many traits incorporated into the design of the Drosophila, commonly known as the fruit fly, make it an optimal specimen for scientific research. Their short life cycle, averaging between twelve and fourteen days, and ability to be easily manipulated through controlled mating allows scientist the opportunity to create large sample sizes with great ease. Although these tiny creatures have been around since the days of ancient Greece, they were not thrown into the scientific spot light until Dr. Thomas Hunt Morgan, an embryologist at Columbia University in New York, incorporated them into his study on sex limited inheritance. By isolating mutant flies and performing test crosses he was able to determine that genes were in fact located on chromosomes and therefore, create a deeper understanding of heredity. In 1910 he discovered a white eyed variant that became the fuel behind the new field of genetics. Throughout the following years, Morgan and his contemporaries established the foundations of classical genetics, leading to a Nobel Prize for Morgan in 1933. Linkage, in terms of genetic importance, consists of the capability of genes to be inherited together when they are located together on a single chromosome. A technique associated with linkage is genetic mapping. • 26. Type I Taste Biochemistry Abstract There are complex molecular mechanisms involved in the sensation of taste, also known as gustation. They are specific to the five differing taste qualities. Taste transduction involves taste cells of varying structure and function. These taste cells comprise of type I glial like cells, type II receptor cells, and type III pre synaptic cells. Through different mechanisms, the taste receptor cells detect a respective ligand of sweet, bitter, umami, sour, and salty tastes. It has been suggested that type I cells are involved in detection and transduction of salt through an ion channel. Type II cells operate through G protein coupled receptors that belong to the T1R and T2R families. Neuron synapses and ion channels aide in the performance of type III cells. Gustatory receptors play an essential role in the detection and perception of tastes within the oral ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, recent evidence suggests an additional ability of detecting salts through ion channels. Receptor type II cells detect bitter, sweet and umami tastes. They express G protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) that are associated with gustducin, the G protein (4). GPCRs are capable of acting through varying second messenger systems to relay a signal to the interior of the cell. This signaling produces increased intracellular calcium concentrations. Increases in calcium initiate ATP release, thus triggering primary gustatory neurons in close proximity to type II cells. Type III taste cells transduce sour and salty tastes through ion channels (5). Increases in Na+ concentrations for salt tastes and increases in H+ concentration for sour tastes depolarize taste cells, releasing a neurotransmitter, for instance serotonin (5). The neurotransmitters released from the cells, such as ATP or serotonin, activate primary gustatory neurons. Signals are then carried by the axons of primary gustatory neurons for processing to the gustatory ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was established to ensure that law enforcement officers followed the law in collecting incriminating evidence. The Exclusionary Rule was designed by the Supreme Court making it a court made rule. The rule is not like other normal rules that are created by statutes passed by the legislative bodies. The essay will outline how the Exclusionary Rulewas developed highlighting the various cases that proved pivotal in its implementation. The essay will also outline the various limitations to the rule as well as the general applicability of the rule in today s courts (Calabresi, 2003). Before the development of the Exclusionary Rule, courts relied on every evidence presented by the state in criminal cases. Admissibility of the evidence was dependent on its relevance irrespective of the manner in which the evidence was collected. In 1914, the Supreme Court demanded that law enforcement agencies must conform to the Fourth Amendment. In Weeks v. According to the INSEE, the number of French households with an access to the Internet grew from 12 % to 64 % in ten years. The first reason why new technologies dismiss social relationships is because more technologies mean less face to face and therefore less communication. • 33. A Subarachnoid Hemorrhages A Subarachnoid Hemorrhage, or SAH, is devastating and usually has a traumatic outcome. Basically, an SAH is bleeding that occurs between the brain and what surrounds it. This surrounding area is known as the arachnoid, thus the reasoning behind the name. The main cause of SAH is cerebral, or brain aneurysms, because aneurysms usually have more fragile walls than normal vessels, putting them at more of a risk to rupture. Subarachnoid hemorrhages are not something to be taken lightly, as they have many dangers. Many people lack awareness of the dangers accompanied with subarachnoid hemorrhages as soon as they occur, during the treatment of them, and even with life after surviving the hemorrhage. First, as soon as a subarachnoid hemorrhage occurs, there are many dangers to consider. While a brain aneurysm may not have any symptoms, an SAH does and they are unfortunately very sudden. Since an SAH is bleeding from the arteries, the rupture causes abrupt bleeding. From The Gale Encyclopedia of Medicine, Ms. Julia Barrett describes that the immediate danger caused by subarachnoid hemorrhages would be ischemia. She states, Ischemia refers to tissue damage caused by restricted or blocked bloodflow. The areas of the brain that do not receive adequate blood and oxygen can suffer irreparable injury, leading to permanent brain damage or death, thus agreeing that danger is present from the very start with subarachnoid hemorrhages (Barrett). The human brain is also wet and slimy, like the feeling of boggers. The human brain has its own odd smell. Like rotting food in the trash. The average brain weighs about three pounds. Robbie Gonzalez stated Assume it feels solid, firm, almost rubber like. But the brains you encounter in a lab setting have almost always been fixed and preserved with chemicals like formaldehyde, which have a dramatic effect on the texture and firmness of tissue like brain matter (Gizmodo). What Robbie is saying that brains that are in lab class feel different than a fresh brain. The reason why they feel different is that in the lab their preserved with chemicals. That s what Robbie was talking about. There are three major components that make up the brain. The Cerebrum, Brainstem, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Essay on The Sound of Waves by Yukio Mishima In The Sound of Waves, Yukio Mishima creates an exquisite story which has strong idealistic and mythic features. Although Mishima writes of young love and tranquility in The Sound of Waves, his later works are categorized as aggressive and containing violent sexual actions. Even Mishima himself referred to The Sound of Waves as that great joke on the public (qtd. in Ishiguro 385). However, one cannot compare this novel to Mishima s other literary pieces; in order to classify it as romanticized, one must evaluate the usage of imagery, an idealized setting, mythical allusions, and characterizations which establish the romantic driven qualities in The Sound of Waves. It is apparent that nature plays a major role throughout The Sound of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mythical allusions described by Mishima serve to highlight the other qualities within The Sound of Waves. When Shinji first catches sight of Hatsue, she is letting her hair stream and her cheeks glow (7). These characteristics are shown many times throughout the novel and resemble Vergil s depictions of goddesses such as Venus and Juno in the Aeneid. One conflict that Hatsue must overcome is when Yasuo attempts to rape her; his plot was obstructed by the intervention of a furious hornet. Hatsue sees the flashing of the little golden colored wings and wonders what god it [is] who [has] come to her rescue. (93).The interference of the hornet seems far fetched, for most would think that the hornet would not only attack Yasuo, but also Hatsue. In this case, Mishima created an idealized situation were nature as saved Hatsue from the immoral actions of Yasuo. The setting of the island Uta jima is idealized, which creates a place where the romance between Hatsue and Shinji can seem realistic. The reader begins the novel with a description of this island and two spots with surpassingly beautiful views. (3).After this, the reader is introduced to a young man, Shinji, climbing up the stairs of the lighthouse. Mishima depicts this area as one of the most beautiful views on the island. The ... • 46. Pros And Cons Of The Fifth Amendment Heritage Essay 2nd Rough Draft The death penalty is not only constitutional, it is a necessary part of the American judicial system. In America, the death penalty is issued to those found guilty of a capital offence with aggravating circumstances. These aggravating circumstances can include murder with a kidnapping or murder commited to avoid arrest. This is, to ensure that the death penalty is only dealt to those that truly have committed grave crimes. The Fifth Amendment of the Constitution guarantees that a person will not be, deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law (US Const. Amend. V). The Eighth Amendment guarantees that, cruel and unusual punishments (US Const. Amend. XIII) will not be inflicted on convicted criminals. The death penalty does not oppose these amendments because of they way they were specifically written. The Fifth Amendment specifically states, without due process of law (US Const. Amend. V). This is written very particularly to mean that with, due process of law (US Const. Amend. V) the rights that have been guaranteed in this amendment can be taken from a person. The writers of the constitutional meticulously wrote this in such a way so that the rights of a tried and convicted criminal can be rescinded. This means that the death penalty, when given to a tried and convicted criminal, does not violate the Fifth Amendment. The writers of the Constitution wrote it such that it did not invalidate the date penalty. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Explain how moral entrepreneurship affects the public perception of morality and thus the creation of new public order crimes. Answer: Public order crimes are crimes against the public consensus of morality. Sometimes public order crimes are called victimless crimes, as there is no clear victim that can be identified. A crime against the public order is quite different than a crime against a person. Violent and property crimes are a direct victimization against a person. The victim has been affected by violence and the act has caused a loss of something of value. Moral entrepreneurs can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For this reason, victimless crimes are often called consensual crimes. One common example of a victimless crime is prostitution. Offering sexual favors in exchange for money is considered a crime in many places. Both the solicitor and the prostitute can be arrested for violating public decency laws. If, however, both parties are deemed to have committed the illegal act consensually, then neither party may be considered victims in the eyes of the law. Prostitution is often not a free choice. Prostitution is usually accompanied by forms of force or enslavement Most prostitutes use drugs regularly. Addiction means they must stay to pay for drugs. Pimping, gangsterism; runaway girls to cities or immigrants who are promised good jobs. Often, the initial loss of innocence was forced by sexual abuse / rape. Street prostitution becomes trafficking when a pimp uses force, fraud and/or coercion to maintain control over the person providing commercial sexual services and cause the person to engage in commercial sex acts. An individual engaged in street prostitution under the age of 18 is considered a victim of sex trafficking regardless of the presence of force, fraud or coercion. Unfortunately, when purchasing a prostitute, many buyers don t think about the serious consequences that come with street sex. Sexually transmitted disease, infidelity, violence, thefts and many crimes take place with the average prostitute exchange. Wives, husbands and innocent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay on Stanislao Cannizzaro Quest for Knowledge Throughout history, the curiosities of obtaining knowledge of facts that show the operation of general laws have resulted into the improvements of today s society. Such curiosity of chemical reactions coiled in the minds of John Dalton in the atomic theory, Rosalind Franklin with genetics, and most importantly Antoine Lavoisier the father of modern chemistry. All who, worked extensively to acquire the understanding that fascinated them most, chemistry. Another chemist who sought after the same knowledge was Stanislao Cannizzaro. Leaving Alessandria Cannizzaro became a professor of chemistry at the University of Genoa. While there he wrote letters outlining the differences between atoms and molecules. Sending this letter to Sebabastino de Luca, the chair at Pisa, the letter was published in the Pisa journal as, Sunto , in which would be republished and translated into other languages. Ideas based on Avogadro s law, Cannizzaro clarified the distinctions of molecules and atoms giving a solid foundation for the formulation of the periodic law. Presenting the information in such a clear way during a time where Avogadro s theory seemed unnecessary Cannizzaro made it easy for scientists to grasp it and Avogadro s law became the standard. At the 1860 Karlsruhe Congress, scientist became more aware of the Sunto and the convention was held in order to develop a more precise definition of the atom and molecule. Explaining once again, the terms of atom , physical molecule, and chemical molecule the third day of the congress his presentation failed and it was decided that scientist could choose to use either Berzelius s or Avogadro s system.
