Urban models are important tools for planners in their capacity to offer in-sight into future urban growth. However, the majority of urban models overlook the role of developers’ behaviour in capturing the growth of ur-ban residential spaces. This paper redresses this gap by embedding the spa-tial consequences of privately-driven urban residential development on se-lection of potential land and their impact on land prices within an agent-based model. Jakarta (JMA), Indonesia forms the case study context. Re-sults from the model highlight the emergence of new urban areas on the JMA’s fringe that are strongly tied to land value. The model offers poten-tial to offer new insights into the relationship between land cover and land prices and the role of developers’ decisions in shaping the expansion of residential areas.
These days Russia is a difficult market, but it still is a market and - in terms of population size - it is by far and large the biggest market in Europe.
Over the last 2 years MLA+ has been conducting market research in Russia to identify opportunities and potential places for Dutch urban and architectural design expertise to excel. The focus of the research did lie on places with potential outside Moscow and St. Petersburg Regions. Combining hard data, soft data and expert opinions, 12 cities have been shortlisted as potential markets. To increase usability, the report not only introduces these places and but also identifies projects in the making and projects and challenges these cities are facing in the coming years and that with a high likelihood will require design expertise.
The result of the work that was conducted with the support of the Dutch Creative Industries Fund has been published in a 400 page report .

Urban Design and Street Typology: Do They Matter?William Riggs
Despite a growing body of work defining the benefits and methods to encourage multi-modal travel, only a small body of research has worked to fuse urban design and complete street philosophies. Based on work recently published in the Journal of Planning Education and Research on street design and two-way street conversions, Dr. William Riggs will discuss how street typologies and complete streets dialogues are linked, and how urban design policies might be advanced to facilitate safer and more livable streets.
Urban Architecture and Building Communities
When developers and architects design housing developments they need to give a great deal of consideration to the quality of life of its inhabitants and the fact that they bear a significant responsibility for creating a sense of community and neighbourhood integration. It is not just a matter of creating living units and roads with services. Some developments have been notorious for creating alienation, social isolation or ghettos, while others are renowned for being enjoyable, desirable and inclusive places to live. This often has an impact on subsequent housing resale values.

Abstract:
In Smart City projects huge amounts of different datasets have to be linked or even integrated. A multitude of sensors provide information about the current operation status of the many urban systems like energy and water supplies, transportation, and security situations for monitoring, controlling, and planning. Semantic 3D city models can be used in such contexts to spatially and semantically structure the many data items by relating them with the respective objects of the 3D city model. However, such models have been mostly static representations of the environment in the past, and their inclusion of the urban sensor landscape was not addressed in detail. Also the computation of urban (key performance) indicator values like building energy demands has not been supported by a dedicated conceptual model yet.
The presentation will present new frameworks based on semantic 3D city models and Model Driven Engineering (MDE). These frameworks complement the ISO 19109 standard on modeling geographic features. They provide concepts for the modeling of indicators for different application domains like mobility, energy, and security as well as for the semantic modeling of planned changes as transactions on 3D city models. It will be shown how these concepts are employed in Smart City use cases and how they relate to the CityGML standard. Furthermore, it will be shown how CityGML can be extended for representing dynamic object properties including sensor observations and time-dependent patterns for values.
Digital Cultural Learning: Traversing Networks and Activating the Archivefwiencek
The idea of the network is central for our information society. From the Internet, over archives to knowledge: all can be perceived and analyzed as networks.
In my talk I am exploring the idea of the network in these different areas and discuss how it can be employed for cultural learning. Therefore I am departing from the concepts of Connectivism (George Siemens) and “Critical Mediation of Art” (Carmen Mörsch) and discuss examples of the use of digital media for cultural learning and co-creative knowledge generation, in order to meet the challenges, which participatory culture presents for cultural institutions.

Semantic 3D City Models are the basis of a new generation of virtual reality. The most relevant objects within a city including manmade and natural objects are mapped to objects within a semantic 3D city model. These objects are classified, further substructured (e.g. a building is decomposed into roof and wall parts etc.), attributed, and have spatial and semantic relations to other objects. The international standard CityGML issued by the Open Geospatial Consortium provides a common vocabulary and definitions for describing and managing urban entities which enables interoperability over the many different cities all over the world.
This presentation shows how CityGML based semantic 3D city models are used to link data from diverse application fields like energy planning, disaster management, and environmental analyses on a stable ground. Special focus is on the support of strategic energy planning, demonstrated for the research project "Energy Atlas Berlin" that was funded by the "Climate KIC" of the European Institute for Innovation and Technology (EIT). We show the city-wide estimation of the energy demands of buildings including heating, electricity and warm water energy in the city of Berlin using available official geobase and statistical data integrated within the Energy Atlas Berlin.
The tools have been mostly developed at the chair of Geoinformatics at Technische Universität München (TUM). They are now being further developed in follow-up projects and applied with housing companies, energy suppliers, and urban retrofitting initiatives. For further information see the references on the last two slides.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
