A dry port is an inland terminal directly connected by road and rail.
• Fishing Port:
A fishing port is a port or harbour for landing and distributing fish.
• Inland Port:
Inland port is a port on a navigable lake, river or canal with access to a sea

A town or city with a harbour for seagoing ships.

History of Gwadar
• The word Gwadar was actually “Gwat –a- dar” which means the door
of wind in Balochi.
• Pakistan identified GWADAR as a port site as far back as 1954 when
GWADAR was still under Omani rule.
• The price of GWADER was 3 million Dollar.
• Gwadar was officially the parts of Pakistan in 8 December 1958.
• MALIK FEROZ KHAN was the 7th Prime Minister of Pakistan.

Introduction
• Gwadar Port is a warm-water, deep sea port situated on the Arabian Sea at
Gwadar in Baluchistan province of Pakistan.
• The port is a major destination in the China Pakistan Economic
Corridor (CPEC).
• In April 2015, Pakistan and China signed a deal to acquire the usage rights to
more than 2,000 acres of land for a Chinese company, Chinese official media
reported.
• The leasing would last 43 years.

Gwadar Port Location
• Gwadar is located on the shores of the Arabian Sea.
• It is in Pakistan's western province of Baluchistan.
• It is about 533 km from Karachi, 120 km from the Iranian border and
380 km northeast of the nearest point in Oman across the Arabian Sea.
• Gwadar Port is located at the mouth of the Persian Gulf.

Geopolitical Importance
• Gwadar port has great strategic value.
• Enhancing Pakistan’s importance in the whole region.
• Gwadar surrounded by countries having two third reserves.
• For trade with Central Asian counties.
• Relations with neighbouring countries can be improved.

China Pakistan Economic Corridor
• CPEC First proposed by Chinese PM Li-Keqiang & Pakistani PM Nawaz
Sharif in 2013.
• On 20 April 2015, Pak & China signed an agreement to commence work on
CPEC.
• It connects China's Xinjiang region with Pakistan's Gilgit–Baltistan and
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa regions.
• China Pakistan Economic Corridor is a collection of projects.
• Link the Pakistani city of Gwadar Port in southwestern to China’s

• There are three routes of CPEC:
• Central Route

• Western Route
Central Route
• Gwadar Port to Kasghar through Pakistan Cities Gawadar, Turbat,
Khuzdar, RajanPur, DG Khan, Bannu, Peshawar, Kohat and Hasanabdal.
Eastern Route
• Gwadar Port to Kasghar through Pakistan Cities Gawadar, Turbat,
Khuzdar, RajanPur, DG Khan, Faisalabad, Pindi Bhattian,Rawalpindi
and Hasanabdal.
Western Route
• Gwadar Port to Kasghar through Pakistan Cities Gwadar, Turbat,
Khuzdar, Kalat, Quetta DI Khan, Bannu, Peshawar, Kohat and
Hasanabdal .
