The Grammatical Translation Method focuses on grammar rules, translation of sentences, and reading/writing skills over speaking/listening. Vocabulary is taught through lists and dictionary study. Teachers analyze grammar rules then have students translate sentences between the target and native languages. The goals are to read literature and translate between languages, while developing reading/writing skills. It effectively applies grammar but stresses students less while demanding less of teachers. However, it gives the wrong view of language and creates less motivation/more frustration for learners.
