GTM is not a new thing in learning a language,
which is only slightly different. The name that has
been used by language teachers for a number of
years ago. In ancient times this method is called
"classic method". At the beginning of this century,
this method is used to assist students in reading and
understanding a foreign language literature. But it is
also expected that in studying or understanding the
grammar of the language desired target,
Grammar translation method is a
teaching method that is used to improve
students' skills in speaking, reading and
writing latin
The ultimate goal is that students are able to
read literature written in foreign languages
so that in a lot of practice teaching students
to read and write in the form of a foreign
language
Principle of this method is the translation
of grammar, vocabulary memorization and
formulas as well as the interpretation of the
original language
Role Teacher
Role Student
 Role in this very traditional
methods. The teacher's role is as an
authority in the classroom
 And the role of students simply
obey what teachers teach, students
do what the teachers say, students
learn what teachers know.
Advantages
Disadvantages
 Translation is the easiest way to explain the
meaning or words and phrases from one
language to another and the students will not
have much difficulty in answering questions
about the language, thus, teachers can easily
assess whether students have learned what they
taught, Communications between teachers and
learners do not cause problems of linguistic
