Analysis Of Elizabeth Barrett Browning s The Battle Of...
Elizabeth Barrett Browning was born on March 6, 1806, at Coxhoe Hall, Durham, England,
daughter Mary Graham and Edward Moulton Barrett. They made their wealth from a Jamaican
sugar plantation. Elizabeth was the oldest of eleven siblings. She was educated at home which
leads her to write at a very young age. By the age of fourteen her very first book was published,
The Battle of Marathon, which her father released privately. Browning had many of her works
published but in eighteen forty four her collection titled Poems was published. These poems caught
the attention of English poet Robert Browning. Robert wrote to Elizabeth a letter, they both
exchanged numerous letters over the following months, this lead to their elopement in eighteen
forty six. On eighteen fifty, she released Sonnets from the Portuguese, it is a collection of forty
four love sonnets that became one of the greatest sequences of sonnets in history. The collection
was dedicated to her loving husband and was also written in secret during their courtship. Aurora
Leigh was published in eighteen fifty six, this was her longest work, this was a blank verse novel
and poem. Elizabeth Barrett Browningdied on June twenty nine, eighteen sixty one in Florence at
the age of fifty five. This essay will reveal the theme of feminism through the exploration of key
forms of Browning, which include: the inner battle resulting from the conflict to choose between
female identity and a skillful author, the connection made

Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease
This week may be the last week I write to you. In my last letter to you, you may have noticed that
I seemed depressed and not like myself. I wasn t completely truthful in that letter. I m not just
having a bad day, I m diseased with an incurable, fatal disease. It all started about week after I left
the United States, and you. In the airport, in museums, and just walking through the streets of
England I would feel lost and confused, forgetting where I had come from and where I was
going. Along with losing some of my mental skills, every so often I would trip over my own feet
or drop my travel bag, a sign of me slowly losing coordination. Every hour or so, my hands, legs,
and feet would begin to tingle and burn. After about a week of suffering with these symptoms I
went to a doctor, a primary care provider only, and discussed how I d been feeling. He suggested I
get some more sleep and possibly change my diet. The first thought was that it was just me getting
used to another country, time zone, and food. After a few spinal taps and neurological
examinations, I was diagnosed with Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease, or human Mad Cow Disease....

In both my body and your s there are these things called prions which occur normally in humans
but when folded incorrectly, they are harmful to the body. These incorrectly folded prions then go
on and alter other normal prions by actually changing the structure of the prion s alpha helical
regions into beta pleated sheets. If these altered prions are in your brain, they build up in your
neurons and cluster together with each other eventually causing neuron loss and other brain
damage. This continued brain damage and neuron loss leads to holes in the brain giving it the

Low And Decreasing Self Esteem During Adolescence
Low and Decreasing Self Esteem During Adolescence Critique
Steiger, Allemand, Robins, and Fend (2014) hypothesized that not only the level but also the
change in self esteem affect depression. Using data from over a 23 year span, they investigated
adolescent level and change in self esteem and examined their predictive effects on adult depressive
symptoms two decades later. Self esteem was assessed annually from age 12 to 16, and depression
was assessed at age 16 and 35. Subsequently, they found that results demonstrated that both the
level and change in self esteem served as predictors for adult depression (Steiger et al., 2014).
Individuals who entered adolescence with low self esteem, and or whose self esteem declined
further during ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The participants rated each item on a scale consisting of 0 for disagree, and 1 for agree. The
items were added to create a total score ranging from 0 to 8. Furthermore, domain specific self
esteem was also measured. This was a measurement of physical appearance and academic
competence. Subsequently, each self esteem domain was measured with six items. Participants
rated each item on a scale consisting of 0 for not true and 1 for true for me. The items were then
added to create scores ranging from 0 to 6. Further still, depression at age 16 was measured
using 13 items from the original Beck Depression Inventory, while depression from age 12 15
was not measured (Steiger et al., 2014). Subsequently, participants were asked how often they had
experienced depressive symptoms during the preceding week. The participants were informed to
indicate which sentence out of four possible answers reflected their feeling most accurately. In
adulthood, seven items from the Beck Depression Inventory were used to measure depressive
symptoms. The Participants were asked how often they typically experience depressive symptoms.
Participants rated each item on a 6 point scale. Consequently, Steiger et al. (2014) controlled for
three variables when examining the effects of self esteem on depression. First, they controlled for
peer popularity when examining the effect of global self esteem. Peer popularity was rated through
peers of the same school and

Good Guys And Bad Guys Essay

Jason Molloy
Good Guys and Bad Guys Jimmy Conway and Sam Ace Rothstein, two of the most charismatic
characters in their respective films, are a lot more alike than they seem. Without actually analyzing
and going in depth with both characters, you could see why they both come off more different
than alike. First off, and a huge noticeable difference, is Jimmy s love life compared to Sam s love
life. Jimmy has no attachments to the ladies. Although the real James Conway was married, the
character portrayed by Robert De Niro was not. Portraying no love life in the film Goodfellas
really made Conway stand out from all the other supporting characters. Sam, on the other hand,
had Ginger. Ginger used up Sam like he was a human ATM machine and took advantage of every
bit of generosity Sam had in him. During the last act of the movie when Sam is throwing Ginger s
clothes around and telling her to get out you can tell that he was just acting out of emotion due to
the betrayal he had experienced. This scene was the perfect example of a falling out between ...

Jimmy, on one hand, is the antagonist viewed as the real bad guy , whereas Sam is the
antagonist viewed as the good guy . Now, obviously they are both involved with the mob which
automatically gives them the antagonist status. However, Sam is a very giving person and
caring person as you can see by how he treats his wife and daughter. With all of the disrespect he
receives from his wife he still takes it and moves on about his business. Although this gives Sam
a nice guy stance it also makes him look like a doormat, something Jimmy is most certainly not.
With all of the people that Jimmy had whacked, most, if not all the people that helped him with
his scores, you can tell what kind of person Jimmy is. Plain and simple, Jimmy Conway is a selfish,
user and abuser, far from Sam s

Aboriginal People In Aboriginal People
Aboriginal people, often known as Indigenous people, refers to the original people of North
America and their descendants, including First Nations, Inuit, and MГ©tis. Data showed that 4.3%
of Canada s population is represented by Aboriginal people, which increased by 20.1% between the
2006 and 2011 (Statistics Canada, 2011). Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British
Columbia had the largest numbers of Aboriginal people (Statistics Canada, 2011). The median
after tax income for Aboriginal people aged 15 years and older in 2010 was $20,060 (Statistics
Canada, 2015). In a 2014 Canadian income survey conducted by the Government of Canada
(2016), 8.8% of Canadians were below the low income cut offs and were living in poverty,
18.7% of Canadians were Indigenous people on living on a reserve. It is important for
sociologists and health care professionals to be aware of the income issues of Aboriginal people in
Canada to better understand the social context and health issues that aboriginal people face daily.
A large number of Aboriginal Canadians struggle with diabetes. According to Gionet and
Roshananfshar (2013), four percent of MГ©tis, two percent of Inuits, and six percent of First
Nations living off reserve are living with diabetes in Canada. Diabetes affects the body s production
of the hormone, insulin, that works to regulate the amount of glucose in the body (Canadian

From Utopia To Mill Town Analysis
Can you imagine getting up at the creak of dawn and then working for 12 plus hours? How
about wearing a dress while having to use a loom or work in the mills? Well, the women during
the 1800s where the heart and sole for the factories;not only did they have to work at such
hours, but they did it with such a grace and many were eager to work for it gave them a sense of
independence. Industrialization was the reason behind the young women working in the factories
and mills ,however it was not the best working conditions. Many of the young girls did not have
the knowledge to work with the equipment nor were they being taught; this leading to the girls
getting hurt or being scared of the tool just as one of the From Utopia To Mill Town

Terror of The Thing. Essay
October 12th 1902. It was another dreary night in Huntington Pennsylvania. The thunder crashed
like plates being dropped on a kitchen floor. The lightning illuminated the night sky bringing light
for just a short, brief moment. The house creaked and groaned as if someone were in the very
home. And the soundof the neighborhood cats scurrying to find a shelter from the frigid rain.
This however did not affect old Zebadiah Hansen, who had gotten used to the old mansions many
clamorous noises and had developed a somewhat liking for them. Zebadiah sat in his rocker
stroking his long white beard next to a roaring fire, reading The Cloud of Unknowing, one of a
vast array of books in his vast collection. Abruptly a boisterous knock came from the... Show more

From behind him he heard a reticent whisper Zebadiah.
He spun around and shouted with great intensity, who s there?
No reply. Zebadiah swallowed another glass of brandy hoping to wash away his fears.
The fire iron suddenly fell to the ground making a great clamor in the living room. Zebadiah was
now petrified with fear and with a weak quivering voice shouted What do you want.
Once again there was no answer. Zebadiah was feeling great anxiety at this moment. He decided
that a good nights sleep would do him well. So he timorously made his way to the hallway and
up the stairs. He climbed to the top of the stairs which had over the years became a tedious task
for him. He scurried to his room and slammed the door shut. As he began to lay down he
suddenly heard a soft melody coming from the study. This didn t make sense seeing that
Zebadiah had no neighbors for miles. He didn t have a piano because he felt music rots the brain
and causes a lack of concentration. The soft melody gradually increased in loudness until it came
to the point where it was causing great distress to Zebadiah. He put a pillow over his ears to
silence out the noise, but it seemed to do no good. And just as quick as it had started, the noise
ceased.
Zebadiah being the man he was felt that he must determine the sounds origin. He grabbed the
candlestick off of the stand next to his bed a

The Other Being Grandfather Safran
1.It was through this hole that the women of the shtetl took turns viewing my great great great
great great grandmother. Many were convinced ... she was of an evil nature ... they had to piece
together mental collages of her from each of the fragmented views ... (20).
Brod is among the two most interesting characters in the book (the other being grandfather Safran).
Her story is unique, and her arrival to the shtetl in 1791 is so powerful and unusual that it becomes
a tradition (adopted in the form of Trachimday). Brod seems to exert a kind of enigmatic yet
clearly benevolent semblence, and even as a small baby resting in the synagogue, people are drawn
to her.
The passage illustrates how Brod s influence was wide spread (unintentional ... Show more content

We discover that Yonkel was once a respected moneylender within the shtetl before he was found
guilty of un fit practices and lost his usurers license. This turning point in Yonkel s life changed
him literally. He adopted the name Yonkel in exchange for the name Safran. Safran s wife was
very disappointed when her husband lost his license, and so she ran off with another man, leaving
behind a note that would trouble Yonkel for the rest of his years.
Simply put, the note is the representation of Yonkel s past returning to haunt him. In the same way
that he cannot bear to keep the note, he cannot allow himself to dwell on the unfortunate events of
the past that lead him to this frustrated moment of stasis. If he were to continually ponder
everything that went wrong with his life, he would make himself mad (the beginnings of which
become apparent when he thinks about his wife with the other man). While Yonkel cannot keep the
note, neither can he simply throw it away. There is a small stubbornness in Yonkel s conscience
that makes him not want to outright destroy the note and forget his disgraceful past.
The heart of the matter all comes down to Yonkel s wife, for the note ultimately represents his
feelings about her. Yonkel is experiencing a bittersweet emotion that is trapping him in this stasis:
he is angry at his wife for leaving (his reason to discard the note), but at the same time he cannot
simply stop

What Is The Theme Of Ode To The Nightingale By John Keats
Ode to the Nightingale, John Keats The lyrical poem Ode to the Nightingale was written in 1819
by an English poet, John Keats. Beside Lord Byron and Percy Bysshe Shelley, he is classified as
one of the main leaders of the late Romanticism. „This movement emphasize the method in
which the author describes the contrast between reality and dreams, he creates exceptional
characters and use a lot of subjective emotions is his poems. (Е tД›panГk, 16) In comparison to his
contemporary authors Byron and Shelley, John Keats did not describe much of the social
conditions in his works. Probably he did not want „to be the savior of the world, did not want to
dream about the future of mankind and did not want to judge social injustice (Klein, 30) as much...

I appreciate the usage the small bird as a symbol which can provoke such deep thoughts about
our life. For me, the nightingale s song is the symbols of beauty which should be really enjoyed.
It is this small bird who is free to fly wherever it wants to, singing its beautiful song and making
the world better and nicer for us. I really like the whole idea of John Keats having a moment for
himself listening to this sweet song and thinking about it and its originator. Our life can
sometimes be a little bit stressful. People deals with stress in different kinds of way. One of
them can be savouring of those moments that feels really nice, in which we can be left alone to
our thoughts. I think that it is really important to always look on the brighter side of life. My life
is sacred to me. I feel that people are given lives for some reason and it should be their duty to try
to live in the best possible way. Those small moments, sometimes similar to the one John Keats
experienced in the garden of his friend Charles Brown while listening to the nightingale5, are also
important. These moments can compensate for the suffering which sometimes comes to our days.
Life is a precious thing and we should savour it like the smallest breath of air. We should not
waste our time and energy on bad things which will not matter in the end. One moment our life is
in our lungs and in a few seconds it fades away.

Catch-22 Literary Analysis
War, it stripes people of their sanity and ethics, still it is considered a catalyst for change. In the
novel Catch 22 by Joseph Heller it tells the story of a twenty eight year old bombardier stationed
in world war two, set in a fictional island, Pianosa, somewhere in Italy. There are many opinions on
war, there are pacifists, those who are willing to fight, and those who refuse to be involved even
though it is very much needed. Although war may be necessary for self defense, it is by no means
virtuous and has in fact affected the mental health of many like Yossarion. War is many things;
malevolent, economically challenging, and controversial, but nevertheless it is necessary. In spite
of the fact that Joseph Hellerdepicts the characters similar to Colonel Cathcart as an opposing
factor, they do notice the importance of their role in the war, unlike Yossarion. Consequently, if
the veterans don t acknowledge their importance then our progress as a nation will fail to proceed,
our economic gain will suffer, over population will occur (worse than it already is), and our
territory and freedom will be purloined, I m not running away from my responsibilities. I m running
to them. There s nothing negative about running away to save my life. (Joseph Heller, Catch 22)
War occurs so we can have our freedom, we cannot just lie around idly and expect to reap the
benefits. As a result, the government chooses eligible citizens to bravely fight for their country and

Compare And Contrast Jefferson And Hamilton
Jefferson vs Hamilton Alexander Hamilton had a very organized plan for the development of the
United States government, a federalist that had strong ideas that would help the government
achieve a greater purpose. Which required a solid central government with two main points like
interest of commerce and industry. Being something that wavered in the air at that time that needed
to be corrected to improve the government, so Hamilton figured. Hamilton married into the
Schuyler family who was very rich and was the urban mercantile interests of seaports. Hamilton

Jefferson had different views and often spoke on rural and southern interests. Believing that it
was a way to make change without having to go as far as the federalist were trying to take it.
Basically taking rights that the people deserved. Jefferson was hell bent on freedom which was
a major issue at that time, but compared to debt it was second to last and or actually last on most
lists. The fact that Jefferson stood up for what he believed in made him and Hamilton alike in a
lot of ways. For the people both stood for. Jefferson was more so casual to some issues that
Hamilton had. Certain things stated in the Constitution he felt would had been taken away if
Hamilton enforced his plan. Jefferson also stood of for the poor. Jefferson also spoke on Hamilton s
monetary policies surpassing the rights that was established in the Constitution. Jefferson knew
Hamilton was for the rich instead of the poor. Jefferson had connections with the French and that
was something that Hamilton didn t approve of because his loyalty was with the

Observation Of Daya
During this past week, I was enjoying some relaxation time from my busy and hectic schedule
and watching some Netflix. I was watching an episode of Orange Is The New Black, form
Season 1. The overall summary of the episode that I was watching was that there was an inmate,
Daya, who was pregnant from one of the prison guards who also happens to be her boyfriend. In
a panic of trying to protect the boyfriend/prison guard from being fired once it is figured out that
Daya is pregnant, multiple inmates work together in coming up with a plan trying to help out Daya.
The helpers include Daya s familymembers, people from the same race, and a couple random
women from a different clique. It was a little odd that all these inmates were working together
trying to help out Daya in such an involved and difficult situation. All of these women who are
usually at each other s throats are now working together trying to come up with solutions. In
addition to this, the solution that the group decided on, was given by one the women from the
outside clique, which was odd. However, we later learn that the reason why she... Show more

The ones that helped Daya out the most were her family members, which were her mother and

reasons why Daya s mother was helping out was because she wanted to make sure her
grandchild was going to be okay, a demonstration of Kin Selection . The women that were from
the same race, shows that we tend to help people that look like us. Then the other random women,
who were also helping out Daya, were clearly doing so for their own benefit and personal gain.

Illiteracy In America Essay
The Critical Problem of Illiteracy in the U.S. and Solutions to the Problem
Frederick Douglass once said, Once you learn to read, you will forever be free (Cardoza, 2013).
Millions of U.S. adults do not possess basic reading and writing skills, and may be deemed
illiterate or functionally illiterate . Illiterate means unable to read or write at all and functionally
illiterate means that one does not possess sufficient reading and writing skills to function
successfully in today s society (Conover, 2009). Those who are illiterate and functionally
illiterate are unable to perform tasks as simple as reading a bus schedule or writing a check
(Conover, 2009). Not knowing how to read could cause a person stress, embarrassment, or even
loss of a job. Adult illiteracy is a critical problem in the United States that can be solved through
education, innovation, and dedication.

Descriptive Essay On A Day In My House
The snow seemed like it will never stop. At my house, that sits upon the top of a mountain, we
had over three feet of snow. It was three days before Christmas and the sun was just rising over
the snow covered mountain range, the morning sky was grey with a splash of pastel pink and a
warm yellow. With the smell of black coffee, I woke up in my sister s room. The sunshine was
beginning to peak into the small yellow room, my sister, Allison, was still sleeping with shallow
breaths. I carefully swing my legs out of her bed, the frame made a quick, high pitch creak as I
stand up. As I tiptoe towards the door, the sound of bacon hitting the hot skillet makes my stomach
growl. I quietly close the bedroom door behind me. I descend down the steps, awaiting me is a
zealous black dachshund. She shakes her body happily and runs towards the door, her nails
clicking on the wood floor along the way. I try to open the frosting glass door, but the compacted
snowwas hindering the glass. With a burst of strength, the door opens and the cold and angry air
slaps my face. Hopping out the front door, my dachshund lands in a pile of snow and pushes the
snow in the house. I close the door quickly, to see my grandmother sitting at the old wooden
kitchen table. She smiles as my mother walks in. My mom comes over with a bright yellow box
of pancake mix in her hand and kisses the top of my head. She sets the yellow box down to check
on the sizzling bacon, and I walk over to my content grandmother.

critical issue if had been identified early on in the project could have made matters better. Though
the steering committee was created to solve the issues related to IAA implementation and the
estimation of cost and resources, the steering committee was successful in pin pointing the issues
but not addressing the issues. The steering committee was formed to address the issues faced by
the project, it was unable to exercise its role due to the absence of clear information, technical
nature of the debates made it harder for the steering committee to engage, lack of clarity with the
hierarchical structure of power made it all the more difficult to address the issues.
Lack of project management clarity: the planning activity had lot of material but lacked content,
clear action items and lack of consensus on the milestones. The difficulties in the project only
increased with time and a more performance driven style would have kept things on track if
introduced early on.
The lesser factors were that the contract did not have comprehensive risk transfer from NU to
IBM, making it important for the project to work for NU, in turn reducing the performance levels
of IBM. There was lack of involvement from NU with IBM prior to the finalization of the contract
to understand the milestones IBM had in mind and the feasibility of the methodologies followed by
IBM. The

it also affects many aspects of a person s daily life. Firstly, it affects the social life, causing
isolation, which is one of the most common effects that happen due to drug usage. Secondly, it

When taking amphetamine, users start to get anxious, tense and if they take a heavy dose over a
long period of time, they get linked to the mental illness, psychosis. Some drugs, like cannabis,
cause the user to become paranoid. Cocaine can cause extreme alertness, impaired judgment,
impulsiveness, and compulsively repeated acts. Even though, cocaine is used to enhance the sex
drive, the effect that it has on the receptors in the brain reduces the ability to feel pleasure, which
eventually causes the dependency on the drug. Another drug that has a powerful effect on the
body is Ritalin. Ritalin causes severe headaches, anxiety, paranoia and delusions. These are some
of the psychological effects that drugs cause to the human body. Following the usage of drugs,
young people s social lives and relationships get affected harshly. Most teens find refuge from
current problems by taking drugs. Once a person starts using drugs, they gradually start drifting
apart from family and friends. For them, drugs are their only life lines, and the reason to live. The
most common effect that drugs have on social lives is isolation. This eventually starts effecting
family, as the family starts getting dysfunctional. The family bond starts dissolving, as the user
gives importance to the drugs only. This causes trust to be shattered, and soon families too. Another
factor that gets affected the most after the use of drugs is

Comparing Earth On The Turtle s Back And When Grizzlies...
The origin myths The Earth on the Turtle s Back and When Grizzlies Walked Upright have story
details that are similar, yet also very different. The Onondaga and Modoc cultures both respect the
Sky Spirit, and believe that the Sky Spirit controlled everything on Earth. A recurring moral in both
myths is that everything happens for a reason. In The Earthon the Turtle s Back, if the Ancient
Chief s wife had never had a dream about the tree being uprooted, Earth would have never been
discovered. In When Grizzlies Walked Upright, if the daughter never poked her head out over the
top of the mountain, grizzly bears would be able to talk and walk on two legs. While both myths
have a few similar morals, the two stories also have very different morals

William Shakespeare s Macbeth And Henry Iv
Shakespeare s plays Macbeth and Henry IV Part One are both plays that are wrought with the notion
of destiny. The journeys that Macbeth and Hal undertake throughout these plays are contrastingly
different and each play takes on a different perspective of destiny. In Macbeth destiny is attempted
to be controlled by Macbethhimself whereas Hal has a destinythat he was born into, a destiny to be
king. Both are portrayed differently in different spheres of their society this will be explored further
in the examples below.
Firstly, language is the first indication of differences in both of these plays. Shakespeare is very
good at writing and distinguishing different social classes using different language techniques
and manners of expression. In Henry IV this is shown through Hals learning of a gruff and more
common language through the bartender, in many ways this ability to shift between a language
that the nobility would use and one that the commoners would use aids Hal through his destiny.
He is able to befriend the bartender and these commoners hence he gains the trust of his people,
which is an integral part of his plan to win back is honour as a prince and the loyalty of his
father. Furthermore Hal changes his diction when he declares his loyalty to his father and his king
showing his ability to once again use his diverse language skills to gain the power and honour he
truly wanted. In contrast the language in Macbeth is specifically used to create imagery, specifically

James A. Garfield was murdered within months of the beginning of his election. He serves a

Examples Of Biblical Allusion In Cry The Beloved Country
In Alan Paton s compelling novel Cry, The Beloved Country published in 1948, he eloquently
writes about the characters Stephen Kumalo and James Jarvis to tell a story with a momentous
message about the effect of apartheid in South Africa. Paton expertly solidifies his dynamic and
forceful writing in his novel with his uses of various literary elements like imagery, diction,
allusions, motifs, and even the simplicity of his poetic writing voice. Although, in chapter 36 Alan
Patons use of biblical allusions and connotative diction serve to help the reader better understand
and to highlight the change that is to come to the racial unjust country.
Biblical allusions are all throughout the Cry, The Beloved Country , everywhere from names to
direct quotations from holy scripture. Chapter 36 is no different with the presence of biblical
allusions. Paton uses the biblical allusions to enhance the reader s understanding of the
circumstances. The use of allusions in this chapter also adds an undertone that greatly advances
the power of the words in the text. One example that Paton uses is when Stephen Kumalo goes on
a journey towards the mountain. The biblical aspect comes into play because of a direct and
indirect biblical correlation. Firstly, Kumalo goes to the mountain to be closer to God; yet it also
connects to the biblical story of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

East Of Eden Weather Analysis
John Steinbeck has many characteristics that set him apart from other writers. Including his ability
to write many novels and all of them still be of high quality work. Perhaps one of his most notable
traits was his love for writing detailed descriptions of land and weather. The use of natural elements
in East of Eden, allow Steinbeck to emphasize motifs and themes throughout the novel. In the
beginning of East of Eden, Steinbeck can be found giving a detailed description of the two separate
mountain ranges that form the SalinasValley. The eastern mountain range with it s wide range of
magnificent flowers is said by Steinbeck to be lovely, inviting and full of positive energy. These
wonderful mountains are known as the Gabilan Mountains. The range of western mountains is
nothing like the mountains of the east; The western mountain range is described a dark, dangerous
and unfriendly place. This brooding range is called the Santa Lucas Mountains (Steinbeck, 2002,

Many believe that Steinbeck describes the weather to foreshadow events. In chapter twenty five,
Steinbeck describes the winter weather as being gray, cold, and wet. Chapter twenty five is also
when Steinbeck informs the reader that the beloved Samuel Hamilton passed away (Steinbeck,
2002, p.309). This is accurate foreshadowing because the gloomy weather is associated with
sadness and sorrow which is what everyone felt when Samuel Hamilton died. Another important
event that weather foreshadowed was when Abra arrived on the Trask place. Abra was a source
of competition for the boys for she was one of the only womanly figures in the Trask boys lives
and each boy wanted her all to himself. Just before Abra arrived, a thunderstorm had occurred

Real Property Tax Assessment
This is the first in a series of articles written to inform the real property taxpayer how to appeal
your property tax assessment. Drawing upon my many years of experience in both the private and
public sector property tax business, I have written this article in general terms that apply to the
many states and counties in the US, and focused it on what everyone needs to know should you
want to appeal your property taxvalue.
Fair Market Value
All states base their assessed value on fair market value (also referred to as market value ), or a
defined percentage of fair market value (here in GA we are assessed at 40% of the fair market
value estimate). The Appraisal Institute has defined market value as:

2. Sales Comparison Approach...estimates a property s value (or some other characteristic, such as
its depreciation) by reference to comparable sales.
This approach, like the name implies, entails comparing your property to the sale of comparable
properties in your market area. Adjusting for differences (such as numbers of bathrooms) by
adding (or subtracting) the approximate value of the differences to the sale price, you can get an
indication of what your property might sell for.
3. Income Approach...uses capitalization to convert the anticipated benefits of the ownership of
property into an estimate of present value.
This approach is rarely (I m guessing never) used by taxing jurisdictions to appraise single family
residential property. Larger metropolitan counties with a lot of market data use this approach to
value commercial properties. Essentially the income approach takes the potential rental income of
your property, deducts for anticipated operating expenses, and applies a capitalization rate to the
left over net operating income (NOI). The capitalization rate is derived from market data showing
what multiple of NOI investors are paying for similar

Factors Of Materialism
Article 1: MATERIALISM: THE CONSTRUCT, MEASURES, ANTECEDENTS, AND
CONSEQUENCES Definition: According to the authors, materialism can be commonly defined
as a belief that material objects are crucial and valuable. Materialistic person is one who values
material objects highly and from a sociological view, it is a culture which most people holds
material as highly valuable subject. Nonetheless, the word has a secondary meaning as it is an
implicit and usually negative value judgement to the degree where people who are described as
being materialistic commonly held to have a concern with only material things rather than
important spiritual or intellectual fixation. However, the authors discussed the articles openly with
the possibility of having both positive and negative consequences. They also using the term that
merely denote the degree to which individuals or groups value material possessions. Measures: The
authors mentioned and discussed numbers of approaches in terms of materialism measures. Of
these measures, those by Belk and Richins have been mainly stressed as it is claimed as the most
widely used in marketing. In summary, three measures of materialistic traits are possessiveness, non

The Effect Of Magic In Doctor Faustus And The Tempest
Christopher Marlowe s Doctor Faustus and William Shakespeare s The Tempest both examine the
effect of magic on one s morality. The protagonists of the plays, Faustus and Prospero respectively,
seek the power of knowledge and find it in magic, which is a superhuman source of power. Despite
the losses Faustus and Prospero suffer, they think magic is right on the grounds that it gets them
what they want. Magic is a means of achieving one s ends without effort and transcending the
limitations of the human condition (Paris 264). But when Faustus and Prospero renounce magic at
the end of events, they abjure the means that gave them power and knowledge. This is a change

What Is The Theme Of Foreign By Carol Ann Duffy
Foreign, written by Carol Ann Duffy, is a poem depicting the perspective of an immigrant worker
who lives in unfamiliar surroundings and narrates their experiences. In this dramatic monologue,
Duffy uses language and themes in effective ways that allow readers to interpret the different
themes and ideas to highlight the persona s sense of confusion, feelings, nostalgia, and many more.
Through the use of literary devices, regular structure and varied tones throughout the poem, the
author presents strong themes that can be related to the audience as well as to gain sympathy to the
narrator.

The narrator describes his scenario and the memories that he has faced during his time in the
dismal dwellings in [the] strange, dark city (Stanza 1, Line 1/2). The narrator describes both the
readers and their own agendas, where both would use the public transport. Work. Sleep. (Stanza
3, Line 1) The author uses caesura effectively in the first sentence because she is intentionally
breaking the flow of the text to add a new form of perspective. In hindsight, all readers do in fact
use a mode of transport, work, then sleep. It is a cycle that should somehow be broken or taken
aware of, so that our lives can be significant rather than a copy of everybody else. Continuing on,
the stanza goes through a deeper theme of prejudice and discrimination against those who are
foreign, such as the persona themselves, as they describe the imaginative sight of seeing a name
for yourself sprayed in red / against a brick wall. A hate name. Red like blood. (Stanza 3, Line 2

thinks of himself in the strange city of the unknown. An outcast, marked by a name written in
blood, or this is the narrator telling the audience directly what he has witnessed, and everything is

Essay on Tantalum Electrolytic Capacitor
Tantalum Electrolytic Capacitor
Construction
The tantalum power undergoes a process called pressing. This mean that the powder is mixed with
binder to make sure the particles will stick together when pressed to form the anode which will flow
into press tool smoothly. A high pressure condition is applied to the tantalumpowder around a
tantalum wire to form tantalum slug. The binder is removed by heating the slug under vacuum and
high temperature for a few minutes.
Next process is sintering, the tantalum is sintered at high temperature in vacuum and cause every

The graphite layer is functioned to prevent the direct contact of silver layer and manganese oxide.
Properties
The capacitance value of tantalum capacitors have the range between 1nF to 72mF and voltage
rating is from 2V to 500V or higher. The size of tantalum capacitoris smaller than aluminum
capacitor in the same capacitance value. The tantalum capacitor has its anode, electrolyte and
cathode just like other electrolytic capacitor. The anode is made by tantalum metal and not placed
beside cathode so that only small leakage of DC current will occur. The capacitance value is higher
if the internal surface is higher.
Strength
Tantalum electrolytic capacitor has high volumetric efficiency compare to other electrolytic
capacitor. Besides, tantalum capacitor has good frequency characteristic which mean they are more
suitable in using other application where normal electrolytic capacitor could not be done. It also has
high reliability, they say to be unlimited life time as an electrolytic capacitor. It can withstand
extreme temperate in range 55В°C to 125В°C. Furthermore, it has high level of compatibility with
other modern production.
Weakness
Tantalum electrolytic capacitor has low ripple current ratings which shrink the area of using them.
Tantalum capacitor cannot sustain excessive voltage or reversing the voltage, this may cause it to
explode. Lastly, the cost is higher compare to other capacitor.
Application

Holocaust Essay On The Holocaust
The intense documentary Genocide reveals the suffering and pain that Jewish people went through.
It also examines how the holocaust took place and what was brutally done to millions of innocent
lives during this horrific time in our history.
The implications of anti semitism on Canada leading up to WWII and the Holocaust was that Jews
needed Canada s help and Canada said no. They followed the stereotypes of what Jews were
perceived as and took in only 5000 Jewish refugees. Based on stereotypes, they took in the group
of people that were the most beneficial to them and Jews were at the bottom of that list with
Chinese and japanese people. There was anti semitism in Germany because of Hitler. While
many do not understand the reason for his hatred against Jews he was the reason that caused

of past cultures allow us to physically see what was essential and valued by these ancient peoples.
Artifacts tell us about suspicions, beliefs, everyday life and everything in between without these
crucial remnants of culture, we could not even begin to understand what was before us. Although
these artifacts are useful for learning and understanding ancient civilizations, there is much debate
about the morality of other countries buying and owning these historical pieces. Every civilization,

Ancient Greek theology was based off of polytheism, which is the belief of multiple gods does
Zeus, Poseidon or Hades ring a bell? Each god had a different function or relevance to society

Buddhism Religion
Buddhism is a religion to about 300 million people around the world. The word comes from budhi
meaning to awaken. It originated about 2,500 years ago when Siddhartha Gotama, known as the
Buddha, was himself awakened or enlightened at the age of thirty five. In about the sixth century
B.C. Siddhartha Gautama was born into a royal family. When he was young his experiences with
the outside world drove him to seek out a greater understanding of life and spiritual fulfilment.
Through seeking guidance and meditation, Siddhartha achieved enlightenment. From that point, he
was known as the Buddha. For the rest of his life, the Buddha travelled great distances teaching
people about one path to salvation. After the Buddha s death, his followers continued... Show more

Is the Washington Consensus a Help or Hinderence
The Washington Consensus has proved more of a help than a hindrance to the economic
development of countries. Assess the validity of this claim.
The Washington Consensus refers to the idea that the International Monetary Fund, the World
Trade Organisation and the World Bank share common ideals. This is the idea that trade
liberalisation and moving towards free trade is the best way for countries to develop.
The IMF has 185 member countries; their work mainly consists of monitoring and advising
countries on exchange rates, providing loans in emergencies, both long and short term and
providing assistance and training. The IMF requires countries that receive loans to put in place
reforms in the form of Structural Adjustment Programs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They argue that the US cotton subsidies WTO agreements and that US cotton subsidies were
harmful to Brazilian cotton growers.
In 2009 The WTO accused the US of using subsidies exceeding the cap. This victory gained by
Brazil confirms the idea that US subsidies are harmful.
In this dispute, Benin and Chad gave support as third parties, they would be likely to win a case
on similar grounds to Brazil however they would reap little reward as they import very little from
the US so any sanction upon this would be unlikely to have much effect. Another risk of opening
conflicts with the US for these countries are that they receive aid form them, to speak out alone
against them could leave them very vulnerable.
In this case study, these developing countries should not be in this position. The idea of subsidies
goes against the ideals of the WTO s trade liberalisation approach and has by their own rules been
declared illegal however it is allowed to continue under he conditions of a cap which really doesn t
benefit anyone.
These organisations do provide help to the developing countries of the world, this is undisputed.
However they also do a lot of damage. It is clear that free trade, loans, SAPs and privatization are
key to economic development and globalization. Although the evidence seems to support the fact
that the Washington consensus is ineffective in reducing poverty and facilitating trade. They are
also heavily criticized for being heavily in favour of the

Current Management Techniques, And Make Recommendations On...
The purpose of this memo is to survey our current management techniques, and make
recommendations on where we can improve our current model. The real estate industry is a
cyclical market. We can observe almost regular 18 year cycles in the housing market, with the last
recession occurring in 2008 (Nikolais, 2014). With this regularity, it has been very easy to predict
when expansions will occur, which in turn allows real estatefirms to position themselves in a way
to fully capture the market. However, the last bust in 2008 has been much different. For the first
time in history, people are electing to rent, rather than buy their home. This can be seen in a
recent survey by MarketWatch: Nearly six in 10 Millennials (59%) say they d rather rent a home
than buy one, with just one in four saying they are either very or completely likely to purchase a
home in the next five years (MarketWatch, 2015). The reason for this change in behavior is that
first time homebuyers are burdened with nearly $1 Trillion in student loan debt (Kingkade, 2013).
This pressure has made younger people wary of taking on even more debt in the form of a
mortgage loan.
On a broader level, we are six years into a recovery in the housing market that is likely to last for a
considerable amount of time (Nikolais, 2014). Although we are seeing a rise in demand, and have
been very busy as of late, there are always areas in which we can improve. Recent trends in
technology have reshaped the way businesses are

better find the best fit for me in terms of where I want to work after graduation. A little over a
year ago in CPD III I made a list of the top ten critical factors like I did this year. After comparing
the two lists from CPD III and CPD IV side by side I realized that a majority of the critical factors
were the same. The main difference that I seen was mostly the order of the critical factors from
most important to lest important. At this stage of my career it is important for me to determine my
critical factors and choose rotation sites that are best suited for me so that I can get the most out of
my experiences. In CPD III my most important critical factors in the order from most important to
least important were: job security, opportunity for leadershipdevelopment, income, benefits,
working with a team, business management, helping people, variety of daily activities, work
schedule, and finally entrepreneurial opportunities. In CPD VI my most important critical factors in

Role Of Senate In Canada
Senate of Canada: Role and Significance
To begin with, the legislative branch of government in Canada is Parliament, which is bicameral
and consists of the House of Commons and the Senate. The House of Commons is made up of 338
members of Parliament that represent different constituencies which vote in Canada s federal
elections (Courtney, 2015). More importantly, the electoral system in which members of parliament
are elected is called first past the post system and the candidate with the most votes wins the
elections with plurality voting (Cross, 2010, p. 130). On the other hand, the second chamber of
Canada s Parliament is the appointed Senate. The Senate is regarded as the chamber of sober

In fact, Senators must be at least 30 years of age and must own $4000 of property and reside in

their position in the Senate as their independence is protected by tenure until the age of 75
(Library of Parliament, 2002, p. 12). In terms of the roles, the Senate serves as the watchdog in
Parliament as Senators participate in debates in the chamber, scrutinize government estimates and
legislation as well as investigating issues and policy matters in committees (Library of
Parliament, 2002, p. 12). Also, the 1867 British North America Act also outlines the limitation of
the Senate in terms of proposing bills and the process in which bills become law. Bills can be
introduced in the Senate; however, these bills cannot raise or allocate public funds (Library of
Parliament, 2002, p. 12). Finally, to become law, bills must pass through both the House of
Commons and the Senate to receive royal assent and become law (BNA Act, 1867, IV.

The Crucifixion Across Biblical Writings
The Crucifixion across Biblical Writings
The Bible has been a major cultural influence throughout the world for centuries. This work has
taken roots in movies, music, literature, art, and more, and as a result the interpretations and spin
offs are endless. The Gospel According to Jesus Christ by JosГ© Saramago is one of these
interpretations. Saramago is knowledgeable on the Bible as well as information about the historical
circumstances of the time period. Putting these two factors together, he created a novel that
humanizes the characters to make it more understandable to readers, as well as sculpt a unique
backstory that differs from anything Christians would find acceptable. However, he was so

Judas betrays Jesus and he is brought to the Prefect Pilate after being arrested based on the
suspicion of acting treasonably by declaring himself King of the Jews. Pilate interrogates him
several times and continuously finds that Jesus has done nothing wrong. After much time and the
suggestions of the crowd, Pilate sentences Jesus to death by crucifixion, and he ultimately ends up
on the cross. Jesus requests that Pilate write a specific inscription on the cross that says; Jesus of
Nazareth, King of the Jews. Pilate tells the others that what he had written he had written, and then
Jesus begins to declare that he is thirsty. At this point someone put of sponge of wine to his mouth
and he says: It is finished (John, 19:30). Then, Jesus dies and the soldiers pierced him in the side
with a spear.
Saramago version of the story is much different. The scene starts by Jesus explaining to
everyone how they are going to die. He cooks up a plan that he thinks will save the people. So,
instead of die on the cross as God s son, he asks one of his followers to get him arrested for
treason. His followers do not agree with his plan and think that if he is the Son of God, he should
die as the Son of God. Judas ultimately volunteered to help, Jesus thanks him, and he is arrested.
When questioned by Pilate, Pilate shows much less compassion than the one in John s telling. He
questions Jesus for some time asking how Jesus could possibly be a

Adam Smith Influence on Economic Theory Essay
Why is the work of Adam Smith considered so crucial in the development of economic thought?
Adam Smith is widely regarded as the father of economics as a social science, and is perhaps
best known for his work The Wealth of Nations. Throughout this work Smith states and informs
towards his belief that society is not at its most productive when ruled over by rules and
limitations with regards to trade, and that in order for markets to maximise prosperity, a free trade
environment should be made accessible. In this essay I intend to asses the way in which many of
Smiths theories taken directly form his works can be applied to past and current situations, first
from an economic then social, and then a political point of view. I will also... Show more content on

The invisible hand would have such an effect if every individual acts in order to maximise their
own prosperity, the prosperity of the community will, in turn, be maximised and become more
efficient. This effect is very well exemplified in modern day terms by using a supermarket queuing
system as an example. Each customer getting in line selfishly chooses to maximize his own interest,
that is to check out in the shortest time, regardless of the other customers. Their utility maximizing
choice is to get in queue in the shortest line; this means that eventually customers queue up in lines
all of the same length. Therefore even without the slightest direction and by following only their
selfishness, the lines are all of the same length, which is clearly the most efficient disposition. This
theory has been crucial in the development of economic thought in that it is a statement which
reflected society in Smiths day, and is still so widely applicable in modern day society. From a
political point of view, Smith wrote that Government intervention should be kept to a minimum
within society. From a mercantilist point of view this was a terrible suggestion, however Smith
argued that government intervention in markets will cause a limitation in productivity, and
therefore not maximise efficiency. However if left alone as discussed in the previous paragraph,
each party will seek to maximise its own prosperity within the given constraints, in turn maximising

Who Is Javert A Hero
Victor Hugo wrote a captivating novel in the early 1860 s that still mesmerizes audiences of

the not so beautiful side of the post French Revolution era. When Victor Hugo was writing Les

Javert the Inspector exemplified how the law was much more than his black and white philosophy.
Despite that Javert was the most unwavering character as he never strayed from his moral compass.

  • 2. Analysis Of Elizabeth Barrett Browning s The Battle Of... Elizabeth Barrett Browning was born on March 6, 1806, at Coxhoe Hall, Durham, England, daughter Mary Graham and Edward Moulton Barrett. They made their wealth from a Jamaican sugar plantation. Elizabeth was the oldest of eleven siblings. She was educated at home which leads her to write at a very young age. By the age of fourteen her very first book was published, The Battle of Marathon, which her father released privately. Browning had many of her works published but in eighteen forty four her collection titled Poems was published. These poems caught the attention of English poet Robert Browning. Robert wrote to Elizabeth a letter, they both exchanged numerous letters over the following months, this lead to their elopement in eighteen forty six. On eighteen fifty, she released Sonnets from the Portuguese, it is a collection of forty four love sonnets that became one of the greatest sequences of sonnets in history. The collection was dedicated to her loving husband and was also written in secret during their courtship. Aurora Leigh was published in eighteen fifty six, this was her longest work, this was a blank verse novel and poem. Elizabeth Barrett Browningdied on June twenty nine, eighteen sixty one in Florence at the age of fifty five. This essay will reveal the theme of feminism through the exploration of key forms of Browning, which include: the inner battle resulting from the conflict to choose between female identity and a skillful author, the connection made ... • 3. Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease This week may be the last week I write to you. In my last letter to you, you may have noticed that I seemed depressed and not like myself. I wasn t completely truthful in that letter. I m not just having a bad day, I m diseased with an incurable, fatal disease. It all started about week after I left the United States, and you. In the airport, in museums, and just walking through the streets of England I would feel lost and confused, forgetting where I had come from and where I was going. Along with losing some of my mental skills, every so often I would trip over my own feet or drop my travel bag, a sign of me slowly losing coordination. Every hour or so, my hands, legs, and feet would begin to tingle and burn. After about a week of suffering with these symptoms I went to a doctor, a primary care provider only, and discussed how I d been feeling. He suggested I get some more sleep and possibly change my diet. The first thought was that it was just me getting used to another country, time zone, and food. After a few spinal taps and neurological examinations, I was diagnosed with Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease, or human Mad Cow Disease.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In both my body and your s there are these things called prions which occur normally in humans but when folded incorrectly, they are harmful to the body. These incorrectly folded prions then go on and alter other normal prions by actually changing the structure of the prion s alpha helical regions into beta pleated sheets. If these altered prions are in your brain, they build up in your neurons and cluster together with each other eventually causing neuron loss and other brain damage. This continued brain damage and neuron loss leads to holes in the brain giving it the consistency of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Low And Decreasing Self Esteem During Adolescence Low and Decreasing Self Esteem During Adolescence Critique Steiger, Allemand, Robins, and Fend (2014) hypothesized that not only the level but also the change in self esteem affect depression. Using data from over a 23 year span, they investigated adolescent level and change in self esteem and examined their predictive effects on adult depressive symptoms two decades later. Self esteem was assessed annually from age 12 to 16, and depression was assessed at age 16 and 35. Subsequently, they found that results demonstrated that both the level and change in self esteem served as predictors for adult depression (Steiger et al., 2014). Individuals who entered adolescence with low self esteem, and or whose self esteem declined further during ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The participants rated each item on a scale consisting of 0 for disagree, and 1 for agree. The items were added to create a total score ranging from 0 to 8. Furthermore, domain specific self esteem was also measured. This was a measurement of physical appearance and academic competence. Subsequently, each self esteem domain was measured with six items. Participants rated each item on a scale consisting of 0 for not true and 1 for true for me. The items were then added to create scores ranging from 0 to 6. Further still, depression at age 16 was measured using 13 items from the original Beck Depression Inventory, while depression from age 12 15 was not measured (Steiger et al., 2014). Subsequently, participants were asked how often they had experienced depressive symptoms during the preceding week. The participants were informed to indicate which sentence out of four possible answers reflected their feeling most accurately. In adulthood, seven items from the Beck Depression Inventory were used to measure depressive symptoms. The Participants were asked how often they typically experience depressive symptoms. Participants rated each item on a 6 point scale. Consequently, Steiger et al. (2014) controlled for three variables when examining the effects of self esteem on depression. First, they controlled for peer popularity when examining the effect of global self esteem. Peer popularity was rated through peers of the same school and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Good Guys And Bad Guys Essay Dan Breen COM117: Languages of Film TV 11/5/2014 Jason Molloy Good Guys and Bad Guys Jimmy Conway and Sam Ace Rothstein, two of the most charismatic characters in their respective films, are a lot more alike than they seem. Without actually analyzing and going in depth with both characters, you could see why they both come off more different than alike. First off, and a huge noticeable difference, is Jimmy s love life compared to Sam s love life. Jimmy has no attachments to the ladies. Although the real James Conway was married, the character portrayed by Robert De Niro was not. Portraying no love life in the film Goodfellas really made Conway stand out from all the other supporting characters. Sam, on the other hand, had Ginger. Ginger used up Sam like he was a human ATM machine and took advantage of every bit of generosity Sam had in him. During the last act of the movie when Sam is throwing Ginger s clothes around and telling her to get out you can tell that he was just acting out of emotion due to the betrayal he had experienced. This scene was the perfect example of a falling out between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jimmy, on one hand, is the antagonist viewed as the real bad guy , whereas Sam is the antagonist viewed as the good guy . Now, obviously they are both involved with the mob which automatically gives them the antagonist status. However, Sam is a very giving person and caring person as you can see by how he treats his wife and daughter. With all of the disrespect he receives from his wife he still takes it and moves on about his business. Although this gives Sam a nice guy stance it also makes him look like a doormat, something Jimmy is most certainly not. With all of the people that Jimmy had whacked, most, if not all the people that helped him with his scores, you can tell what kind of person Jimmy is. Plain and simple, Jimmy Conway is a selfish, user and abuser, far from Sam s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Aboriginal People In Aboriginal People Aboriginal people, often known as Indigenous people, refers to the original people of North America and their descendants, including First Nations, Inuit, and MГ©tis. Data showed that 4.3% of Canada s population is represented by Aboriginal people, which increased by 20.1% between the 2006 and 2011 (Statistics Canada, 2011). Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia had the largest numbers of Aboriginal people (Statistics Canada, 2011). The median after tax income for Aboriginal people aged 15 years and older in 2010 was $20,060 (Statistics Canada, 2015). In a 2014 Canadian income survey conducted by the Government of Canada (2016), 8.8% of Canadians were below the low income cut offs and were living in poverty, 18.7% of Canadians were Indigenous people on living on a reserve. It is important for sociologists and health care professionals to be aware of the income issues of Aboriginal people in Canada to better understand the social context and health issues that aboriginal people face daily. A large number of Aboriginal Canadians struggle with diabetes. According to Gionet and Roshananfshar (2013), four percent of MГ©tis, two percent of Inuits, and six percent of First Nations living off reserve are living with diabetes in Canada. Diabetes affects the body s production of the hormone, insulin, that works to regulate the amount of glucose in the body (Canadian Institutes of Health Information 2015). Well, the women during the 1800s where the heart and sole for the factories;not only did they have to work at such hours, but they did it with such a grace and many were eager to work for it gave them a sense of independence. Industrialization was the reason behind the young women working in the factories and mills ,however it was not the best working conditions. • 8. Terror of The Thing. Essay October 12th 1902. It was another dreary night in Huntington Pennsylvania. The thunder crashed like plates being dropped on a kitchen floor. The lightning illuminated the night sky bringing light for just a short, brief moment. The house creaked and groaned as if someone were in the very home. And the soundof the neighborhood cats scurrying to find a shelter from the frigid rain. This however did not affect old Zebadiah Hansen, who had gotten used to the old mansions many clamorous noises and had developed a somewhat liking for them. The fire iron suddenly fell to the ground making a great clamor in the living room. Zebadiah was now petrified with fear and with a weak quivering voice shouted What do you want. Once again there was no answer. Zebadiah was feeling great anxiety at this moment. He decided that a good nights sleep would do him well. So he timorously made his way to the hallway and up the stairs. He climbed to the top of the stairs which had over the years became a tedious task for him. He scurried to his room and slammed the door shut. As he began to lay down he suddenly heard a soft melody coming from the study. This didn t make sense seeing that Zebadiah had no neighbors for miles. He didn t have a piano because he felt music rots the brain and causes a lack of concentration. The soft melody gradually increased in loudness until it came to the point where it was causing great distress to Zebadiah. He put a pillow over his ears to silence out the noise, but it seemed to do no good. And just as quick as it had started, the noise ceased. Zebadiah being the man he was felt that he must determine the sounds origin. He grabbed the candlestick off of the stand next to his bed a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Other Being Grandfather Safran 1.It was through this hole that the women of the shtetl took turns viewing my great great great great great grandmother. Many were convinced ... she was of an evil nature ... they had to piece together mental collages of her from each of the fragmented views ... (20). Brod is among the two most interesting characters in the book (the other being grandfather Safran). Her story is unique, and her arrival to the shtetl in 1791 is so powerful and unusual that it becomes a tradition (adopted in the form of Trachimday). Brod seems to exert a kind of enigmatic yet clearly benevolent semblence, and even as a small baby resting in the synagogue, people are drawn to her. The passage illustrates how Brod s influence was wide spread (unintentional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We discover that Yonkel was once a respected moneylender within the shtetl before he was found guilty of un fit practices and lost his usurers license. This turning point in Yonkel s life changed him literally. He adopted the name Yonkel in exchange for the name Safran. Safran s wife was very disappointed when her husband lost his license, and so she ran off with another man, leaving behind a note that would trouble Yonkel for the rest of his years. Simply put, the note is the representation of Yonkel s past returning to haunt him. In the same way that he cannot bear to keep the note, he cannot allow himself to dwell on the unfortunate events of the past that lead him to this frustrated moment of stasis. If he were to continually ponder everything that went wrong with his life, he would make himself mad (the beginnings of which become apparent when he thinks about his wife with the other man). While Yonkel cannot keep the note, neither can he simply throw it away. There is a small stubbornness in Yonkel s conscience that makes him not want to outright destroy the note and forget his disgraceful past. The heart of the matter all comes down to Yonkel s wife, for the note ultimately represents his feelings about her. Yonkel is experiencing a bittersweet emotion that is trapping him in this stasis: he is angry at his wife for leaving (his reason to discard the note), but at the same time he cannot simply stop ... For me, the nightingale s song is the symbols of beauty which should be really enjoyed. It is this small bird who is free to fly wherever it wants to, singing its beautiful song and making the world better and nicer for us. I really like the whole idea of John Keats having a moment for himself listening to this sweet song and thinking about it and its originator. Our life can sometimes be a little bit stressful. People deals with stress in different kinds of way. One of them can be savouring of those moments that feels really nice, in which we can be left alone to our thoughts. I think that it is really important to always look on the brighter side of life. My life is sacred to me. I feel that people are given lives for some reason and it should be their duty to try to live in the best possible way. Those small moments, sometimes similar to the one John Keats experienced in the garden of his friend Charles Brown while listening to the nightingale5, are also important. These moments can compensate for the suffering which sometimes comes to our days. Life is a precious thing and we should savour it like the smallest breath of air. We should not waste our time and energy on bad things which will not matter in the end. One moment our life is in our lungs and in a few seconds it fades away. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Catch-22 Literary Analysis War, it stripes people of their sanity and ethics, still it is considered a catalyst for change. In the novel Catch 22 by Joseph Heller it tells the story of a twenty eight year old bombardier stationed in world war two, set in a fictional island, Pianosa, somewhere in Italy. There are many opinions on war, there are pacifists, those who are willing to fight, and those who refuse to be involved even though it is very much needed. Although war may be necessary for self defense, it is by no means virtuous and has in fact affected the mental health of many like Yossarion. War is many things; malevolent, economically challenging, and controversial, but nevertheless it is necessary. In spite of the fact that Joseph Hellerdepicts the characters similar to Colonel Cathcart as an opposing factor, they do notice the importance of their role in the war, unlike Yossarion. Consequently, if the veterans don t acknowledge their importance then our progress as a nation will fail to proceed, our economic gain will suffer, over population will occur (worse than it already is), and our territory and freedom will be purloined, I m not running away from my responsibilities. I m running to them. There s nothing negative about running away to save my life. (Joseph Heller, Catch 22) War occurs so we can have our freedom, we cannot just lie around idly and expect to reap the benefits. As a result, the government chooses eligible citizens to bravely fight for their country and when they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Appraisal Institute has defined market value as: The most probably price, as of a specific ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 2. Sales Comparison Approach...estimates a property s value (or some other characteristic, such as its depreciation) by reference to comparable sales. This approach, like the name implies, entails comparing your property to the sale of comparable properties in your market area. Adjusting for differences (such as numbers of bathrooms) by adding (or subtracting) the approximate value of the differences to the sale price, you can get an indication of what your property might sell for. 3. Income Approach...uses capitalization to convert the anticipated benefits of the ownership of property into an estimate of present value. This approach is rarely (I m guessing never) used by taxing jurisdictions to appraise single family residential property. Larger metropolitan counties with a lot of market data use this approach to value commercial properties. Essentially the income approach takes the potential rental income of your property, deducts for anticipated operating expenses, and applies a capitalization rate to the left over net operating income (NOI). The capitalization rate is derived from market data showing what multiple of NOI investors are paying for similar ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. Factors Of Materialism Article 1: MATERIALISM: THE CONSTRUCT, MEASURES, ANTECEDENTS, AND CONSEQUENCES Definition: According to the authors, materialism can be commonly defined as a belief that material objects are crucial and valuable. Materialistic person is one who values material objects highly and from a sociological view, it is a culture which most people holds material as highly valuable subject. Nonetheless, the word has a secondary meaning as it is an implicit and usually negative value judgement to the degree where people who are described as being materialistic commonly held to have a concern with only material things rather than important spiritual or intellectual fixation. However, the authors discussed the articles openly with the possibility of having both positive and negative consequences. They also using the term that merely denote the degree to which individuals or groups value material possessions. Measures: The authors mentioned and discussed numbers of approaches in terms of materialism measures. Of these measures, those by Belk and Richins have been mainly stressed as it is claimed as the most widely used in marketing. The protagonists of the plays, Faustus and Prospero respectively, seek the power of knowledge and find it in magic, which is a superhuman source of power. Despite the losses Faustus and Prospero suffer, they think magic is right on the grounds that it gets them what they want. Magic is a means of achieving one s ends without effort and transcending the limitations of the human condition (Paris 264). But when Faustus and Prospero renounce magic at the end of events, they abjure the means that gave them power and knowledge. In this dramatic monologue, Duffy uses language and themes in effective ways that allow readers to interpret the different themes and ideas to highlight the persona s sense of confusion, feelings, nostalgia, and many more. Through the use of literary devices, regular structure and varied tones throughout the poem, the author presents strong themes that can be related to the audience as well as to gain sympathy to the narrator. (Stanza 3, Line 1) The author uses caesura effectively in the first sentence because she is intentionally breaking the flow of the text to add a new form of perspective. In hindsight, all readers do in fact use a mode of transport, work, then sleep. It is a cycle that should somehow be broken or taken aware of, so that our lives can be significant rather than a copy of everybody else. They followed the stereotypes of what Jews were perceived as and took in only 5000 Jewish refugees. Based on stereotypes, they took in the group of people that were the most beneficial to them and Jews were at the bottom of that list with Chinese and japanese people. If Hitler had not created numerous laws discriminating against Jews, the Holocaust wouldn t have happened. He believed that Jews needed to be removed and were a problem. The purpose of this memo is to survey our current management techniques, and make recommendations on where we can improve our current model. The real estate industry is a cyclical market. We can observe almost regular 18 year cycles in the housing market, with the last recession occurring in 2008 (Nikolais, 2014). With this regularity, it has been very easy to predict when expansions will occur, which in turn allows real estatefirms to position themselves in a way to fully capture the market. However, the last bust in 2008 has been much different. For the first time in history, people are electing to rent, rather than buy their home. This can be seen in a recent survey by MarketWatch: Nearly six in 10 Millennials (59%) say they d rather rent a home than buy one, with just one in four saying they are either very or completely likely to purchase a home in the next five years (MarketWatch, 2015). The reason for this change in behavior is that first time homebuyers are burdened with nearly $1 Trillion in student loan debt (Kingkade, 2013). This pressure has made younger people wary of taking on even more debt in the form of a mortgage loan. On a broader level, we are six years into a recovery in the housing market that is likely to last for a considerable amount of time (Nikolais, 2014). • 52. Adam Smith Influence on Economic Theory Essay Why is the work of Adam Smith considered so crucial in the development of economic thought? Adam Smith is widely regarded as the father of economics as a social science, and is perhaps best known for his work The Wealth of Nations. Throughout this work Smith states and informs towards his belief that society is not at its most productive when ruled over by rules and limitations with regards to trade, and that in order for markets to maximise prosperity, a free trade environment should be made accessible. In this essay I intend to asses the way in which many of Smiths theories taken directly form his works can be applied to past and current situations, first from an economic then social, and then a political point of view. I will also... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The invisible hand would have such an effect if every individual acts in order to maximise their own prosperity, the prosperity of the community will, in turn, be maximised and become more efficient. This effect is very well exemplified in modern day terms by using a supermarket queuing system as an example. Each customer getting in line selfishly chooses to maximize his own interest, that is to check out in the shortest time, regardless of the other customers. Their utility maximizing choice is to get in queue in the shortest line; this means that eventually customers queue up in lines all of the same length. Therefore even without the slightest direction and by following only their selfishness, the lines are all of the same length, which is clearly the most efficient disposition. This theory has been crucial in the development of economic thought in that it is a statement which reflected society in Smiths day, and is still so widely applicable in modern day society. From a political point of view, Smith wrote that Government intervention should be kept to a minimum within society. From a mercantilist point of view this was a terrible suggestion, however Smith argued that government intervention in markets will cause a limitation in productivity, and therefore not maximise efficiency. However if left alone as discussed in the previous paragraph, each party will seek to maximise its own prosperity within the given constraints, in turn maximising the ... • 53. Who Is Javert A Hero Victor Hugo wrote a captivating novel in the early 1860 s that still mesmerizes audiences of young and old. It not only keeps the reader asking for more with its intrinsic love story, but shows the not so beautiful side of the post French Revolution era. When Victor Hugo was writing Les Miserables he wanted the audience to note the flawed justice system, and how law was point blank. Javert the Inspector exemplified how the law was much more than his black and white philosophy. Despite that Javert was the most unwavering character as he never strayed from his moral compass. Javert embodied this trait in the novel by becoming a gendarme even with his trials and tribulations, using Jean Valjeanas his compass, and staying true to himself.... Victor Hugo s portrayal of Javert the Inspector in Les Miserables is one of determination and narrow mindedness. Javet s view of law was the only view the justice system of the time had. • 55. The Note On Youtube And How It Can Be An Everyday Person The comment section on YouTube gives everybody an opportunity to share their voice. Therefore, I love to read comments on YouTube to listen to everyday people. I found an interesting comment written by Drake Santiago who might be an everyday person. I quote him say, There are guitarists that are good. There are guitarists who are excellent. There are guitarists who could be considered geniuses or virtuosos. Then there is the type of guitarist who demonstrates such an uncanny level of skill such a prodigious amount of talent that you think that he is not human. This sort of guitarist is on such a level, with his creativity and dexterity, that he makes you re evaluate your worth as a human being. Luca Stricagnoli is that type of... He uses three Spider Capos and three Jim Dunlop Trigger Capos. [4] I appreciate the way he arranged his guitar it is godly. He plays a lot of open strings which allows him to add countermelody in the song with his left hand while playing another melody with his right hand. The melody of this song is so beautiful that each time I hear this piece, I imagine myself performing this song on stage and getting the credit by others say, This is literally the best music I ve ever heard. The song s short phrases and foot tapping pulse make the song catchy I listen to this song every time in my head even when there is no external source. Whenever I want to loosen up, I remember the song, and the pulse and the moderate tempo of the song relax me.
