My First Time I Went Tubing With My Best Friend Gracye
Overcoming A Fear
I am writing about the time I first went tubing with my best friend Gracye. It
happened when I was 13 years old. I was invited for the second time to my best
friend s lake house and she forced me to go on her Parent s speed boat. Before all
this took place, on the way to her lake house we watched the Teen Beach 2 movie
and there was a saying in that movie it was Gonna march to the beat; gonna do my
thing this was significant quote because i chanted it while I was tubing when I got
scared. When we got to the lake house Gracye and I unloaded our things along with
the stuff for her Mom s party. We sat on her bed eating Cheez its and Pub Mix
while drinking raspberry iced tea, waiting for her Dad to take us on the lake. While ...

When I was whipped off the tube, I had skidded across the water like a skipping rock.
When I was pulled back onto the boat I was cold from being submerged into the lake
by the whip. The sun dried the droplets up in no time and I felt more confident in
going back out after telling Mr. Laursen, Gracye s Dad, to go a whole heck of a lot
slower and DO NOT WHIP THE TUBES, at least while I was on
Holden Caulfield Adolescence Essay
My patient, Holden Caulfield, is a very different teenager. After our first session
together, I could tell he wasn t your typical teen. He seems to not enjoy the things
other teenagers enjoy. To me, it seems like he keeps to himself a lot. In our first
session, Holden told me about how he had gotten kicked out of his boarding
school, Pencey Prep. He hadn t told his parents or even tried to contact them when
he went he left Pencey and gone to New York. He also explained to me about the
death of his younger brother, Allie. Holden explained that he was very hurt and a
mess after his brother died. Another topic that was discussed in our first session was
girls. Holden told me about this girl Jane, who was very important to him. They had

Holden told me to how he reacted after the death, I slept in the garage the night he
died, and I broke all the goddamn windows with my fist, just for the hell of it. (pg.

going to get him psychoanalyzed because of what he did. After breaking all the
windows in the garage, he tried to break the windows on the station wagon with his
already broken hand. This shows how sad and down he got about his brother Allie
dying. Everything in life was going well for Holden, family wise, and then a death
happened to someone who Holden enjoyed a lot. Another girl Holden talked about
in our session is Sally Hayes. The night before Holden makes a date with Sally, he
has a prostitute named Sally come to his room. He just left Pencey, so to me, this
is his way of letting out some sadness and anger. Holden says he didn t do anything
with her because he wasn t in the mood anymore. This shows that some depression
is coming into his activity level. Holden told me about what him and Sally did on
their date. They first went to a show called The Lunts. During the show, Holden
said Sally saw a boy she knew named George and he went to Andover. I sort of
hated ofl Sally by the time we got in the cab, after listening to that phony Andover
Bastard for about ten hours. (pg. 69 pdf) Holden told me. He went on to say that
they went ice skating at Radio City. After ice skating, Holden explains how he
wanted to run away with Sally. She kept saying no because they were still children.
He told me that he told her You give me a royal pain in the ass, if you want to know
the truth. (pg. 72 pdf) At this point, both of them hated each other. Holden said he
apologized over and over to her but he ended up just leaving her at the rink. This
shows how he can t keep their relationship in a good place and his mood changed out

MI251 Charlotte Lottie Digges Moon was born in 1840; she was the third child
for her parents and had four sisters and two brothers. Her father, Edward Moon was
the largest slave holder in Albemarle County; and was also a merchant and a lay
preacher in the Baptist church. Her father was the owner of a fifteen hundred acre
tobacco plantation known as Viewmont . As a young girl growing up Lottie was
known for her astuteness and mischievous behavior. While living at home she
studied with tutors, and in 1857 she went on to further her education at Albermarle

The Roles Of Sri Shirdi Sai Baba In The 19th Century
When Sri Shirdi Sai Baba incarnated as Avatar, whole galaxy of saints also had to
take birth and function as saints, as spiritualcollaborators or adjuncts of Sri Sai
Baba in the divine drama during the later half of the 19th century and the
beginning of the 20th century.Naturally our curiosity is awakened at this point. Sri

If youthink him to be a Yavan, He looked like a pious Hindu. No one definitely
knewwhether He was a Hindu or a Mohammedan. He celebrated the Hindu festival
of Rama Navami with all due formalities and at the same time permitted the sandal
procession of the Mohammedans. ...If you call Him Hindu, He always lived inthe
masjid; if Mohammedan, He always had the dhuni, (the sacred fire) and the
following things which are contrary to Mohammedan religion, i.e., grinding on th
echakki handmill, blowing of the sankh(conch), ringing bells, oblation in the fire,
bhajan, givingof food and worshipping of Baba s feet by means of arghya (water)
were alwaysallowed there. If you think that He was a Mohammedan, the best of
Brahmins and Agnihotris, leaving aside their orthodox ways, fell prostrate at his
feet. Sai Baba wassuch a saint, who saw no difference between caste and creed and
even beings andbeings. He took meat and fish with Fakirs, but did not grumble
when dogs touchedthe dishes with their mouth. ...How could He, who even in
dreams never warded off cats and dogs by harsh words and signs, refuse food to poor
and helpless people. He saw divinity in all beings. Friends and foes were alike to Him.
He even obliged the evil doer and was the same in prosperity and adversity. No doubt
ever touchedHim. 22
Thus we can see that Sri Shirdi Sai Baba was indeed a unique saint.
The Galaxy of Sri Shirdi Sai Baba s Contemporary Saints
There were 54 or 56 saints who were the contemporaries of Sri Shirdi Sai Baba and
were in contact with Him in some way or the other and about whom Ihave been able
to discover some valuable information from Sai Literature and other spiritual
literature of his times.

Avalon Character Analysis
In Barry Levinson s 1990 film Avalon, we meet a young Russian Jewish Immigrant
named Sam Krichinsky who arrives in America on July 4th, 1914. He is
mesmerized by the streaming, bright and colorful lights of the fireworks that night
as he walks through his new neighborhood in Baltimore, an area called Avalon.
Though he does not say it, you can tell by the wonder in his eyes and sense of awe
that he is a young man who has just fallen in love with America. By the end of the
film, Sam is frail and in a nursing home. His once autumn brown eyes are no longer
filled with wonder, just the thick cloudiness of old age. His right hand is tremulous,
his face is marked with brown age spots. He is very forgetful, but he can still tell
the story of the night he came to America. His forgetfulness bothers him though,
and he relates to his visiting grown grandson (his favorite) how a few years back
he returned to the old neighborhood and found it virtually gone, nothing familiar,
even some of the streets he knew no longer existed. He tells his grandson in a
bewildered and still thickly accented voice, If I knew things would no longer be
here, I would have tried to remember better. He does find one spot that still exists
though, a nightclub he used to own in the 1940 s. He says to his grandson is a
soft, yet weary voice, Ah, thank God, it was there, because for a minute I thought I
never was. My Dad, Bill McCarthy, born in June of 1924, is slowly becoming
Sam. He is 93. His hair is snow white and straight, but I ask myself wasn t it at one
time full of waves that I coveted? What happened? My Dad, who was never tall is
smaller now, maybe 5 4 , but his gait is still fairly quick and lively. About a month
ago I visited him at his small home in New Jersey. He has home health aides now
twice a day because he fell a few months back and fractured two ribs. Though, he
would never say so, I know he hates that they are there. They are very friendly and
competent women, but I know he resents and fears them. I don t blame him; their
existence only proves that his clock is winding down. It is hard to have a
conversation with my dad now. He watches Fox News all day long, but of late he
has confided to me that he has a hard time
Keith Jarrett s Personality, Philosophy, And Music
Keith Jarrett is an American pianist whose personality, philosophy, and music emerge
as a force; not only within a jazz context, but within any contemporary American
musical style. The width of Jarretts musical ability, crossing all genres of music,
including, but not limited to: jazz, classical, and world music, is unmatched by most.
But, for some reason his name, or playing is very rarely mentioned outside of the jazz
idiom. Keith Jarretts profound and philosophical explanations for his music give us a
rare example of an immensely talented musician, who is unafraid to contend with the
public eye. Keith Jarrett was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania on the 8th of May,
1945. There was a musical background on both sides of his... Show more content on

His father was supportive in this endeavour as well. He was more into popular
styles of music and would help Keith learn the sounds of the saxophone and the
clarinet. Keith was reading full novels before he entered Kindergarten and his
parents realized that they needed to find somewhere to send him to school,
because the public school wouldn t treat him with enough attention. So, they
enrolled him in private school where his IQ was tested. It was found to be at a
genius level and the six year old boy was then enrolled in third grade instead of
first, where his age would have normally placed him. Keith Jarrett began to give
public performances at a very young age. The famous bandleader, Paul Whiteman,
had a talent searching program on television and when Keith was only five years
old he was taken to Philadelphia to appear on Whiteman s show. Keith was given
an award for his performance on this TV program. When Jarrett was fifteen years
old, the piano lessons stopped. This was due to his parents divorce the year before.
Now that Jarrett wasn t spending hours a day working on classical repertoire he
was free to make his own music and develop his own sound. He started playing
dance music, popular music, and most importantly, Jazz. He then got a fake book as
a gift from a friend and this was the first time he put together a group of jazz
musicians. This little group consisted of friends from around town. They

indirect example of sexism in our society. Sexism has changed since the 20th century.
We ve gone from women strictly being classified as housewives to women being
discriminated against in leadership positions. Much of the discriminationthat women
face is closely related to issues surrounding body image. What we cannot forget in
the year 2014 is who control the ideas that we have about women and leadership: the
media. The misrepresentation of women s power and influence in the media cause

Employers and society believe the media so the men get the job. This is not just
true in positions of entertainment but in politics as well. In state government
there have been 2,319 men as governors as compared to 35 women ( Miss
Representation ). Women feel as if they don t have the criteria to run for governor.
The media uses this against women. In American politics only 20% of the people
that serve in Congress are women and women make up 51% of the U.S. population
( Miss Representation ). The media is to blame for this. The 20% of females in
Congress have to be more educated than the males in Congress (Galer). John
Boehner has been on the cover of 4 national weekly magazines compared to Nancy
Pelosi who was speaker of the house for 4 years and has been on zero national
magazines ( Miss Representation ).The US is not one of the 71 countries on Earth
that has had a female president but China is one (Aliprandini). If the American
people knew China was in this percentage and the US wasn t things would change
with women getting higher positions in politics and regular working jobs. The media
ruins women s election process due to the sexism involved in the media (Gryboski).
The craziest part is employers have found that women work harder than men and
there is still sexism prevalent in the media. Women are 34% more likely to make less

many of the others did. The Shakespeare authorship question has been a topic of
lively controversy for nearly two centuries now . The source detailed the
evidence...and lack of evidence from Shakespeare s life. Evidence of Shakespeare s
life includes a few items, a few signatures, a record of his marriage to Anne
Hathaway, a three page will, papers detailing business transactions, and two portraits.
There is no record of Shakespeare s schooling or connection to his writing. The other
main point the source hit was how the controversy was born. The first person to
make the argument did so as a joke, Shakespeare scholar James Shapiro did this in
his book Contested Will: Who Wrote Shakespeare? This article was the most
interesting to read because it contained the freshest information. The research I
found in this source did not overlap with or reword previous sources which made it
not only so much more enjoyable to read but much more beneficial to my research.
This was the only article that swayed me to one side or the other of the controversy.

Mark Ryden Provocative Influences
Mark Ryden s work presents the effects of provocative elements on the less than
innocent in the world. He displays female dominance by using pastel color themes
and relates females with some of the first presidents of America while also adding
dark humor with severed heads, nudity, and religious figures. With these provocative
features, he also exhibits the effects of religion and government on children while
also incorporating the effects children have on the world. With the inspiration of
children s toys and oddities, Ryden makes fairytale like illustrations merged with
provocative elements. While each of Ryden s collections includes provoking
features, the darkest of his collections are Blood and The Gay 90 s. In his collection,

Virgin and Child, Main Street U.S.A., The Piano Player, The Tree of Life, and
Sophia s Mercurial Waters, and all represent religious icons that are Christ or
illustrate young girls taking on the role of the Virgin Mary. Out of these six pieces,
the Main Street U.S.A. displays the most provocative imagery using the religious
icons. A bleeding, beaten and crucified Jesus is riding a 1950s bicycle while a
young girl sits towards the front of the painting waving the American flag at him.
This painting displays a bit of dark humor, and how the world turns religious
symbols and people into humorous and sellable icons. The image of Christ after
the crucifixion is one that is seen in the much religious artwork. Here, Ryden
humors the image and with displaying it in front of a young, innocent girl, takes
away the seriousness and whatever reservation that is held when portraying
Christ. Ryden takes away the surrounding religious aspect of the figure of Christ,
as he is usually portrayed on a cross or in spiritual and holy positions and postures.
He is associated with other saints, helping out the innocent or troubled and depicted
in biblical stories. Although he paints Christ bleeding, beaten, and after the
crucifixion, he disassociates Christ with the 1950s theme, American flags, and the
activity he is doing. In this way, Ryden turns this icon into a child s perspective.
He makes it humorous and makes it almost playful. In Ryden s work, The Piano
Man, Christ sits at a pink piano, decorated with Sacred Hearts. On top of the piano
sit three young girls, each with a different expression on their face. Ryden includes
many religious images here. There is Christ, Sacred Hearts, and there are three girls
as three is a holy number in Catholicism. At first glance, it seems as if the three girls
are looking at Christ, but there is no eye connection throughout the painting. In fact,

Theme Of Corruption In The Great Gatsby
Dream and Demise
The wealthy upper class has continually been associated with corruption. There is no
more explicit instance than in the Jazz Age, when wealth and prosperity became the
destination of the American Dream. The decadence of both the old money and new
money accentuates the flaws of the American Dream. Fitzgerald in The Great Gatsby
utilizes the embodiment of Jay Gatsby to illustrate the pursuit of wealth and the
corruption associated with it. Jay Gatsby s aspirations to become wealthy in order
to impress Daisy, and the ultimate failure to achieve his dream portrays Fitzgerald s
theme that pursuit of monetary success, while encouraged in society, eclipses
morality and ultimately leads to destruction. Gatsby attempts to reinvent himself due
to his disdain towards the life of the lower class, and begins his path towards a
wealthy lifestyle with his encounters with Dan Cody. While Gatsby pondered his
dreams at night, the moon soaked with wet light his tangled clothes upon the floor
(99). The tangled clothes on the floor symbolizes Gatsby s past, and demonstrates
how he has grown out of his past and left it behind in pursuit of a better, more
extravagant life. In addition, the synesthesia between the presence of water through
the adjective of wet and the light symbolizes the purity and rebirth of Gatsby as he
attempts to escape his mundane, low class lifestyle in an effort to become rich.
Gatsby has intentions of reinventing himself, and his dreams become

Also because of the precedent within the Liliput case Reid V Damon, and the

Morgan s case is also stronger considering David Morgan failed to respond to

December 2015. David Morgan s new wife responded by attesting to his absence
from the country, which would lean in favor of David Morgan. However it was
stated that David Morgan was not deployed when the initial requests were made.
Another weaknesses of Denise Morgan s case would be that she withdrew her
motion before David Morgan had been deployed. David Morgan followed part of
the guidelines in Section 2 Title 47 which he could argue was enough to prove his

Elizabethan Era Music
Elizabethan Era Music Music is present in every culture s past, present, and future. It
has been around since 500 B.C. and was especially important in the Elizabethan Era.
There were reinventions of music as it was widespread and popular. Without this
essential time in history, modern music may have been completely different from
what we have today. This era brought new uses for music, styles of compositions,
new instruments, and the uprising of popular composers. Many new music styles
were created during this revolutionary era that inspired later genres and techniques.
Music was more refined and sophisticated compared to music in the Medieval Era.

Benedict Arnold Essay examples
Known for his betrayl against the Continental Army, Benedict Arnold is most
remembered for becoming a turncoat during the Revolutionary War. But, before
switiching sides Benedict was a strong military leader and an excellent soldier. And,
on both sides of the war, Benedict had great victories. Through his patriotic and
traitorous acts, Benedict Arnold helped shape the course of the American Revolution.
In 1775, Benedict Arnold had taken his first victory Fort Ticonderoga. The Battle of
the fort occured on May 10, 1775. Arnold and four hundred soldiers stood opposite of
the fort on Lake Champlain and waited for the scouting units to return (CIA). When

Battle of Saratoga was the turning poin tof the American Revolution and with
Benedict s aid he had helped make the victory possible. On September 19th, Arnold

of the line officers, Benedict stayed. And as the

Successful Open Marriages In Opening Up By Alfred Kinsey
Open marriages are a form of relationship first brought into the public eye by Alfred
Kinsey in the 1960s. Since then, the idea of approved extra martial affairs have
become even more popular, despite the uneducated critics hollering about it being
an insult to the institution of marriage, or a way to justify cheating on one s
significant other. As open marriages start to become a more feasible option for
couples looking to explore their sexuality, a common question always seems to come
up; this inquiry, in fact, will be the purpose of the following text. To begin, I use
examples from the 2004 biographical film Kinsey, directed by Bill Condon and
produced by Gail Mutrux. While integrating discussion from Tristan Taormino and
her book Opening Up: A Guide to Sustaining Open Relationships, I introduce the
concept of sociosexuality with the help of Lars Penke s Sociosexual Orientation
Inventory. In creating discussion with the above names, I aim to demonstrate just
what does make for a successful open relationship.
In the film Kinsey (Condon Mutrux, 2004), there is a clear divide between what
constitutes a successful and unsuccessful open relationship. Alfred Kinsey and his
wife Clara Macmillan both engage in extramarital affairs, yet remain close physically,
emotionally, and sexually. Alternatively, Clyde Martin (whom, it is worth noting, at
one time engaged in an affair with both Kinsey and his wife) starts a fight with
another man, Paul Gebhard, after finding out Mrs.
What Word Home Means To You Essay
What the Word Home Means to You
Home noun
1. The place where you live.
2. The place where you where born or feel you belong.
I feel that the dictionary meaning of home is the same as my opinion of the word.
Home for me is where I feel without care and is where I can live without fear. My
home is in Bolden Colliery, South Shields in that unique northeastern town of
Newcastle in England.
For me it was very hard to establish where home was because my parents are of
different nationalities. My mother is English and my father is Croatian. I chose
England to be the place of my home. I chose this because I was born there and
because I also have a house there. Most of my childhood ... Show more content on

For example here people can make more money due to the taxation rates and
people can buy more luxury items. I benefit from being able to roam the streets
alone until eleven o clock at night. In England I would have to be at home at eight
o clock or go out with a big group of friends for security. Naturally I love these
benefits. The feature about Dubai that I dislike is that good friends a very hard to
come across. This is partly because, in my opinion, people here are very fake and
do not appreciate how lucky they are to be here. Another reason why it is hard to
make good friends is because your friend or you will have to leave the country. This
is due to a new contract that your parents have received, to work in another country,
or the current contract to work in this country has ended.
My house in Dubai is a single story, terraced villa and is situated in a nice area of the
rapidly evolving city. The villa has a total of six rooms. It has two spacious bedrooms,
one equipped with an en suite bathroom. The second bathroom is found in the hall.
Moving from the hall the next room is the kitchen. This room is very spacious, light
and airy. There are light grey tiles on the floor and white tills running up the walls.
The kitchen is equipped with the usual: fridge, cooker and washing machine. These
are all silver to match the tiles. The
The Theme Of Nostalgia In The Dead By James Joyce
James Joyce and Frank O Connor are two Irish authors who embrace the theme of
nostalgia throughout their works to show this important characteristic of Irish
Identity. Nostalgia can be seen in James Joyce s The Dead and Frank O Connor s
The Majesty of the Law . The characters in both stories reflect on the way Irish life
used to be. Each of these authors use characters in their short stories to show how
nostalgia plays an important role in Irish life. James Joyceand Frank O Connor
express nostalgia through their characters to show how central it is to the idea of
Irish Identity however, both authors still see problems with the idea of nostalgia in
one s life. James Joyce saw issues with the then current culture of Irelandcompared to

The Pc Industry Essay
Introduction

Personal Computer Industry. The personal computer industry has five leaders:
Compaq Computer Corporation (CCC), Dell Computer Corporation, International
Business Machines (IBM), Hewlett Packard, and Gateway, (Industry Survey, Apr.
2000). The PC industry, as discussed in the paper, is comprised only of home

The future for CCC is quite hazy. Despite the sales numbers and the heavy bottom
line, CCC s stock price has sat down in the low $30 s,(Hamblen 1). Competition is
increasing daily and Compaq needs to distinguish itself in the marketplace. They ve
already experienced a decline in markets share, only they can change their fate.
Dell Computer Corporation, the second leading computer manufacturer, began by
selling PC s directly to consumers. Their first customers ordered over the phone and
Wold Wide Web. To this day Dell still has no brick and mortar retailers and does
not distribute its product to resellers. In the business to business market Dell has
excelled, but until recently, the profitable company was not so profitable in the
home user segment,(Industry Survey, Apr. 2000). The company s new strategy, to
gain market share, has proven very effective. Dell now posts a 62% gain in world
wide PC shipments and a 2.6 share point gain from 8.2% in `98 to 10.8% in
`99,(Industry Survey, Apr. 2000). Recently Dell s presence has been felt in the
growing PC market. This has forced competitors to be very careful about pricing in
this highly elastic industry. Dell s profitability is also notable, since it has minimal
distribution costs and does very little advertising Dell is extremely profitable.
However, rough times may be on the horizon for Dell. Analysts are worried because

The Contributions Of James Abrams
Introduction James Abrams was an Entrepreneur, who claimed he accidentally fell
into that position, however, how does one claim this, after having grown a
company from $2 million to $200 million in just 10 years? His primary focus was
home service businesses such as, electrical and heating, plumbing, ventilation and
air conditioning. With reportedly, over 1200 employees and on the list of Inc.
magazines fastest growing private companies, he was building an empire of sorts, a
franchise. This CEO had retired and then decided to retire from retirement stating he
was no good at it, so he went back to work and built Clockwork a multimillion dollar
machine.
James Abrams founded three companies, before Clockwork. Weight watchers, was
the beginning of James Abrams sales career. He was able to attract more than 8,700
customers a week when working for the owners. Then he worked for the Trane
Company, La Crosse where within five years he rose to the position of national
residential sales manager. Abrams and John Young had begun recruiting some
business school graduates, and developed a concept of direct marketing to
consumers taking the company from manufacturing to retail sales. In 1981, James
founded his first company as he parted ways with Young for a time, called Air
Experts, Inc. and this is when he stated he was an accidental entrepreneur because he
couldn t support his family in any other way, since he couldn t find a management

The Great Gatsby Love
Love is an intense feeling of deep affection. It is when two people get together
regardless of the material and other s judgements. In The Great Gatsby written by
F. Scott. Fitzgerald, Gatsby tries his best to reconcile the past with Daisy, take the
blame for her, and eventually, he dies for her because of his deep love. However,
what Gatsby loves is truly the idealized Daisy in his memory of past. Ultimately, all
the characters in the Great Gatsbywant to use love to achieve their American Dream.
The Great Gatsby is a story of the thwarted love between Gatsby and Daisy on the
surface, but in fact, it is a symbolic implication of the disintegration of the American

He idealizes Daisy that she is still the young girl at Louisville. Gatsby is full of
beautiful fantasy and illusion towards his dream, Daisy, just as the illusion of his
American dream implicated by the green light. When Gatsby regards Daisy as his
dream, it indicates that his dream is illusive because of the idealism of Daisy, just
as the American Dream in the 1920s is illusive and worthless by the corruption of
the wealth and moral values. Moreover, Gatsby s loving Daisy includes his pursuit
of American Dream. Daisy lives in East Egg, coming from old money, she is one of
the people who own nobility and elegance. She perpetuates a rigid class structure
that excludes newcomers from its upper reach. The personality of Daisy leads to
James Gatz making up the person Jay Gatsby to achieve her, hence, his identity is
mostly an act. His method of earning money is criminal by bootlegging alcohol.
More specifically, he wants to gain Daisy because of his will to get into the noble
American aristocracy to achieve his own American Dream. Yet he can never gain
acceptance into the American aristocracy. Indeed, he treats Daisy as his possession.
Gatsby himself remarks Daisy as a grotesque rose which he invested her with beauty
and make her his dream. Without Gatsby, she would merely be the idle, bored, rich,
young girl with no particular moral strength or loyalty. Daisy leads to the
Jim Crow Rights
Through 1877 and 1954, many African Americans suffered to gain their rights
completely after the end of slavery. This hard, wicked time was the beginning of
the start of a new law, known as the Jim Crow Laws, that erased the rights for
former slaves all across the south. The phrase Jim Crow originated from Thomas
Rice, who created a stage play about an African Americannamed Jim who was
owned by a man name Mr. Crow. In the Play, Rice was in costume as a Jim and
danced around singing a song saying Jump Jim Crow which became very popular in
the south thus creating the name for the law that segregated blacks from whites. Jim
Crow Lawswas one of the most wicked laws that the U.S. supreme court had passed.
For 87 years, African Americans had fought for their civil rights that were taken
away from them by a law passed by Congress that stated all former slaves and
whites were to be separated and to have separated schools, water fountains,
bathrooms, etc. This law had prohibited African Americans from living a life they
should like any normal white person can. This law, known as Jim Crow Laws, was
passed by congress in 1877 in the south, as reconstruction ended. After the Civil War,
white southerners were not so pleased about African Americans having their freedom
and having their rights. White southerners were not willing to have the same rights
as African Americans, so they decided to segregate all blacks and whites. The origin
of the name Jim Crow came from a stage play

In reading this poem the first time, I had no clue as to what Cummings was
speaking of. However, after many times through and several on line readings, I
believe that I have some semblance as to what Cummings was trying to convey in
this poem. In reading this poem through on my own the first time, I saw Anyone as
any person. However, Anyone is actually an individual, as is Noone. Anyone is seen
to be a happy person as in line 4, he is seen singing and dancing. However, in
contrast to him, were the women and men who not only didn t care for Anyone but

I feel that this is just a little insignificant man in the eyes of the townspeople. The
woman is not too much in their eyes either. However, they have found each other and
in finding each other, they have found true love. They do not feel the need to go
through the ceremony of marriage to show their love for one another. You can see
that they were in each other s lives for a long time because in line 10 we see that
the children who noticed their love are now adults. These children, as adults,
marry but not for love and we also see some of the die in line 20, they slept their

not shortly after that Noone also passed away.
It is a very sad life that I see for the other members in this community. Some of the
children have that innocence to see things very clearly. However, when they grow
up, they lose it. Cummings even states that only the snow can begin to explain how
children are apt to forget to remember . I take this line to mean that children are so
innocent and fun loving when there is snow falling. Children do not really have too
many inhibitions as of yet, but when there is snow on the ground, they lose the
inhibitions that they had. Yet, as we age, we lose that innocence and fun, care free
nature that we once had. However, there are a few things that can bring that fun
loving nature back to many of us and that is
The Incident In Bradford s Of Plymouth Plantation
The incident that Bradford describes in Of Plymouth Plantation that stood out to me
was his description of the lusty Indian who withstood three shots of a musket (79).
Bradford seems to marvel at the Indian s perseverance while coincidentally he is
pleased with success of the English. Bradford s detached reaction to a human
relentlessly enduring multiple gun shot wounds instead of empathizing with the
Indian s agony concludes that Bradford seems to see the Indian s suffering as a self
righteous intervention by God. He continues to allege it pleased God to vanquish
their enemies (79). Considering the context and culture of the time, Bradford s beliefs
seem to validate murder yet contradict the Bible s commandments. Also, specifying

Impact Of Trade On The International Trade Market
The international trade of goods across the world accounts for approximately 60% of
the world Gross Domestic Product (The World Bank, 2014). A great proportion of
goods transactions occur every second. The primary question is whether international
trade benefits a country as an entirety, and, if so, why would a country implement
protective trade policies to restrict particular exports? To address this question, this
essay aims to explore the impact of trade on various economic stakeholders, including
consumers, producers, labour and government and, furthermore, will compare models
and theories with reality to ascertain the true winner/ loser in the international trade
market.

Consumers definitely benefit from increasing purchasing power in terms of lower
relative prices.
Nonetheless, the real prices of certain commodities such as lamb, tobacco and beef
have increased over time due to increasing world average income, which
encourages world demand. Interestingly, developing countries, which form the
predominant exporters of primary commodities, earn lower relative prices over
time, for instance, palm oil arrives primarily from Indonesia and Malaysia and raw
sugar arrives mostly from Brazil and Thailand. Contrariwise, the world suppliers of
lamb are the United Kingdom, Spain and Australia and, moreover, 14% of world
bovine meat arrives from the United States (Simoes, 2013). Therefore, it can be
argued that greater advantages are granted to suppliers in developed countries than
those in developing countries by trade liberalisation.
Aside from the impact on price, the opening of an economy attracts imports into the
domestic country, which results in the provision of variety for consumers. For
example, eleven mobile phone companies control 66.6% of the world market share,
inclusive of Samsung, Sony, Apple, Nokia and Huawei. These companies originated
in Korea, Japan, United States, Finland and China respectively (Williams, 2015).

History And Its Impact On History
History is a course that contains a lot of fundamental information. It is a science that
studies the past of the human race and the human civilizations, assists us to
comprehend the present, so we have a better vision for the future. The History seeks
to reconstitute the past event. For the reason, historyhas its objectives, methods. All
the information of history is related to the timeand space because the consideration of
an historical event requires placing it in time and in a given space. By means of
history, we understand and analyze the cultures of the past, and compare it with the
presentreality. In the same idea, history also help us to find solutions to some
situations that had been lived in the past. History is being maintains intact for many
generations through textbooks, oral sources (speeches, anecdotes, legends recording),
Status.
Authors of textbooks have taken advantage of their position as writers to manipulate
the histories of the past. They do so because of groups of people who are dominant.
Those groups are the governments, authors, medias, scientists, and religious leaders.
History teaches at schools are not relevant with the events that occurred in the past.
Zinn and Loewen had brought light to everything that have teaching at school about
our history. They gave more details about our ancestors and told the story form
another point of view. Our textbooks do not provide student with an accurate detail
about he past in contrary they keep students away
The Price Of The Pants
She had only browsed the store for a couple of minutes when she came across the
perfect skirt. It was a short, cherry red fringed skirt made of the finest Italian
cotton. She disappeared in the fitting room for a couple of minutes to try it on.
Camera flashes light up the hallway as she takes pictures of herself modeling the
skirt from different angles. However, the more she fell in love with the skirt the
more hesitant she became of the pricey $400 pricetag. Unable to justify the price of
the skirt, she walked away empty handed towards a different store. After scanning
multiple isles at Zara, a skirt very similar to the one she tried on earlier appeared
for a fraction of the price. Sure the skirt had some loose threads and the quality of
the cotton was cheaper, but the look was spot on, and was a much better purchase.
Now while most of us would agree that a price reduction on a pricey item this big
might seem like a savvy and economical choice, but these low price tags come with
a much larger expense to others that people are not aware of. These unaccounted
expenses vary from the pollution of water and air, down to the soil where these

also responsible for the destruction of land and even the deaths of individuals who

Literary Analysis Of A Rose For Emily By William Faulkner
1
Literary Analysis on A Rose For Emily by William Faulkner William Faulkner has
done a wonderful work in his essay A Rose for Emily. Faulkner uses symbols,
settings, character development, and other literary devices to express the life of
Emily and the behavior of the people of Jefferson town towards her. By reading the
essay, the audience cannot really figure out who the narrator is. It seems like the
narrator can be the town s collective voice. The fact that the narrator uses collective
pronoun we supports the theory that the narrator is describing the life of Miss
Emily on behalf of the townspeople. Faulkner has used the flashback device in his
essay to make it more interesting. The story begins with the portrayal of Emily s
funeral and it moves to her past and at the end the readers realize that the funeral is a
flashback as well. The story starts with the death of Miss Emily when he was seventy
four years old and it takes us back when she is a young and attractive girl. Faulkner
has characterized all the characters in the best possible way. Emily Grierson, Homer
Barron, Judge Stevens the mayor of Jefferson, Mr. Grierson Emily s father, Tobe
Emily s servant, and Colonel Sartoris a former mayor of Jefferson are the major
charters in the story. The narrator describes Emily as a monument, but with a lot of
negativity. The story shows us how she was a smart young girl and then how she
end up being an overprotective and secretive old woman. She refused to accept the
change when her father died and that s why she kept telling all the people in town
that her father is still alive. Homer Barron is much like Emily. Like Emily, Homer
is an outsider and becomes the topic of gossip. The narrator describes Homer as a
big man with dark complexion with a good sense of humor. Tobe s character in the
story plays an important role. He is a loyal and dutiful servant. He cared for Emily
till she died, but he walked out of the back door and never returned after Emily s
death. Mr. Grierson was a well maintained person. When he was alive, Emily s
house was always beautifully maintained. He earned a lot of respect in the society
but when he died the respect towards his family died with him. Faulkner uses

our state of living to strive to be virtuous.
Beowulf, Gulliver s Travels, and Canterbury Tales were wrote works of literature
written to encourage their readers to evaluate their values. Each writer exposes the
necessity of morals to the building of a fully developed human being. The work
expresses pagan s virtues within their society. Beowulf vowed an oath to Lord
Hrothgar to slay the monster that has taken over and killed his people. His virtue is
demonstrated by obedience to his oath. This enables the reader to learn and
understand the values of the people in the Anglo Saxon era. The Christian traditions
and the practice of Germanic Heroic poetry allows the literature fuse together in to a
one piece of work that distinctly creates Pagan and Christian interpretations of the
way things once were. Beowulf always portrayed virtues that were extremely
contradictory in that he claimed to be Christian but displayed the qualities of a
Pagan. Chaucer presents his

Speech On Spring Cleaning
Winter is almost over, flowers are shooting out of the ground, everything is alive and
vibrates around you. Now is the right time for a spring cleaning. Whatever has
accumulated over the winter, the dust and ballast in your home, is swept out, so that
there is more space for the new.
But not only does your home benefit from such a cleaning operation. Your body will
also thank you for a thorough spring cleaning and you will wind up without any
spring fatigue or cold, but with more energy in the new season. Try one or more tips
for the invigorating spring cure!
1. Fasting
Traditionally, winter is concluded with a fasting session. Although the methods are
different, the goal is always the same: to eliminate the need for winter fat and slag, to
detoxify the body and strengthen the immune system. In ... Show more content on

Then there is no weight on the discs and there is no risk of injury.
4. Suitable Food
In order to give the body the opportunity to cleanse itself, you should do without
heavy food, alcohol and caffeine for your spring cleaning. On the other hand, all
green vegetables, especially cabbage, are most suitable. You can prepare them as
raw food, lightly steamed or as a soup or smoothie.
All spices are allowed, just be careful with salt. Bockshorn clover, chili, ginger or
even chopped, fresh wild garlic are particularly suitable for seasoning in the detox
cuisine.
The beetroot is also a real spring grenade. It supports colon cleansing, stimulates
metabolism and encourages cell renewal. The kidneys and the liver also benefit from
its many valuable nutrients.
Sorrel is rich in vitamins, neutralizes toxins, has diuretic and blood purifying
properties, and therefore, if possible, belongs in a spring detox diet. The leaves can
be used in tea, mixed into a smoothie or eaten in a salad.

Narrative Essay On Softball
In 9th grade I joined softball as part of the school team. It was the first year I would
be playing that sport, yet I immediately got placed to play Varsity as a 1st basemen.
That whole season I played in the same position, until 10th grade. It was just a few
weeks before our first official game, when our indicated and only pitcherbecame
ineligible to play! Our games wouldn t even begin without a pitcher, so I decided
to make the most nerve wracking decision and step up. Practicing for such a little
time made it worse, yet this was a whole team that relied on a pitcher. The first
game finally came and the game didn t go too well. I realized then that it would take
more than physical practice to improve my pitching, because part of it was acquiring
Bartleby The Scrivener Essay
In Melville s Bartleby the Scrivener: A Story of Wall Street, there are several themes
that the author incorporates in his writing such as alienation, charity, and morality.
Melville utilizes the actions of the young scrivener Bartleby not only to represent
mankind, but also to reveal these underlying themes to the reader. In the first opening
words of the short story, I am a rather elderly man we learn that the narrator of the
story is an older gentleman who is a lawyer and is reflecting on things that happened
to him (109). Throughout the story, the author utilizes Bartleby and the other
scriveners to symbolize the proletariats. While Herman Melvilles short story is one
that employs several themes, it is his portrayal of work in a capitalist society and the
way in which it dehumanizes its employees... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The lawyer explains how Turkey is an excellent scrivener in the morning, but as the
day goes on he becomes incompetent because he is prone to making mistakes like
dropping ink blots on the copies he writes (112). Although it is okay because he
has Nippers who was a very useful man to him. The lawyer describes Nipper s
efficiency by saying he wrote a neat, swift hand, and when he chose, was not
defioient in a gentlemanly sort of deportment (115). In addition, the way in which
the lawyer addresses his employees are through nicknames that he gives them
instead of their real names therefore removing yet another quality that makes his
workers human. The names he gives his workers such as Ginger Nut and the way
he describes his employees is as if their level of productivity mattered more than
who they were as a person. The lawyer in this instance is representative of the way
in which employers view their employees as if they were selecting an equipment for
an assembly
Examples Of Salutary Neglect In Great Britain
Britain created a lot of policies to keep the colonies under their rule. They also had
these policies in place because it benefited their own economy. American colonies
would give Britain supplies, and they would use these supplies to manufacture for a
profit. The Navigation Acts were created so that trade would be more regulated.
Salutary neglect was allowing strict laws on mercantilism not to be enforced. The
Navigation Acts allowed only certain supplies to be shipped through specific
countries. The acts also only allowed certain people like Englandto carry cargo. The
colonies were not happy with these policies that were put in place. England

Great Britain was able to receive a vast majority of land. France lost all of the land
they controlled in North America. This war resulted in both sides having to invest
a lot of money to fight each other. Salutary neglect (mentioned earlier) was a term
used to describe how certain laws were not enforced so they wouldn t affect the
colonies. The laws that were ignored were often ones that were in place to keep the
colonies under England s rule. These policies that were ignored dealt with trade.
Great Britain was okay with allowing salutary neglect for the colonies, as long as
they obeyed them. The colonies were happy with this because it gave them some
freedom. As stated earlier, Salutary neglect allowed the colonies to go against
certain policies in the Navigation Acts. Salutary Neglect also allowed the Triangular
Trade to occur. The colonies were able to trade with Spain, France, and the
Netherlands (Even when they weren t supposed to under the Navigation Acts). Great
Britain later tried to enforce those Acts so that they could gain some power back. The
colonists ultimately rebelled because of Britain s

is that, communications is a constant evolution of improvement. (Grills 2016). It is
ever changing as the audience and the community is ever changing. Therefore, in
order to be effective she knows that she must adapt to conditions, and adapt to her
audience as they change throughout different economical, social, and even political
times.
Advantages and Disadvantages
This model certainly has its advantages. Working with external marketingcompanies

Keeping things professional is a standard expectation for all companies and
organizations, and messages are always reviewed to ensure that no one may take
offense to anything that might be said. There are also guidelines that Gleaners tries
to follow, such as sounding as if they are having a conversation with their audience.
They do not want to sound like a large corporation, and try to avoid large statistics
and commands such as you should. This helps Gleaners have more of a friendly feel,
which is important for an organization that works for the community. They try to use
a relationship tone and like to include the audience as a part of the organization,
rather just an outside customer or donor (Grills 2016).
Internal Content verses External Content
Since Gleaners is such a small company, it allows them to have a strong and
straightforward internal communication process. They do not have to explain
commonly known knowledge between employees because they are used to this type
of information. When talking to an external audience, however, they try to be more
informative, and explain their messages with more detail in order to be effective in
the communication process. A great example of this is when Gleaners uses the phrase
food insecurity. Employees in the company use this

Application of Genetic Engineering on Taro
Adam Mohamed10/23/2015
Introduction The field of genetic engineering is very promising, pertaining to the
future of agriculture around the world. Research in this area is allowing for more and
more improvements to the various aspects of a crop such as yield, visual quality,
taste, nutritional value, disease immunity, and cold resistance, as well as many other
benefits. A further understanding of both the geneticsof crops and how to influence
the characteristics listed above will support the lives of many, protect biodiversity,
create many new jobs due to the ability to farm crops in new areas, and other
possibilities. The Cocoyam, also known as Taro, is a tropical plant belonging to...

Literature Review The article Genetic Engineering to Improve Quality, Productivity
and Value of Crops by Abhaya Dandekar provides information on the various
benefits that genetic engineering allows for in a plant. Regarding nutritional
benefits, genes that concern the production of healthy amino acids, oils, and other
substances can be edited, removed, or introduced to increase the abundance of
these helpful substances, allowing for generally healthier crops. Studies on the
popular plant Arabidopsis thaliana have revealed much about influencing when a
plant will begin to flower. This research is valuable in that it permits a better
understanding of how to control the length of the period of time between the
growing stage of a plant, and the flowering stage (when it can be harvested). In
crops such as cabbage, the flowering stage can be stopped altogether, letting the
leaves themselves be harvested, instead of having the plant die after flowering.
Influencing the heat or cold resistance of a plant could allow for the crop to grow in
temperatures that it normally wouldn t be able to, such as having genetically
modified bananas manage to grow in a
A Clean Well Lighted Place Analysis
In the short story A Clean, Well Lighted Place Ernest Hemingway writes about a deaf
man who sits alone and drowns his sorrows in brandy at a local cafГ©. Two waiters
work their regular shifts and view the usual client very differently. Throughout the
short story, Hemingway uses symbols to hint at nada or nothingness. This symbolic
concept of nothingness is developed through the setting, characters and writing style.
Life in America is thought to be ideal and there to be no conflict in its borders.
That is not the actual case at the time of Hemingway s writing as America was in a
depression. Many people left the country to go to European countries where there
were more freedoms and luxuries. In the northeastern hemisphere, there were also
more bodegas and cafes than in America. The cafГ©s were less modern than
bodegas, but were still very widely used in areas such as Spain, where it is suggested
this short story takes placed based on the language used.
In the short story A Clean Well Lighted Place the setting is a small town that is under
military guard. One waiter says He had better get off the street now. The guard will
get him. They went by five minutes ago. (Hemingway 167). In the Character, Irony,
and Resolution in A Clean, Well Lighted Place Warren Bennett writes that the short
story, was published 1933, in the Scribner Magazine. Scribner was an American
magazine, although the short story takes place in another country many Americans
enjoyed it.

Hutchinson-Gilford Progenia Syndrome (HGPS) Essay
Progeria, also known as Hutchinson Gilford Progeria Syndrome (HGPS) is an
extremely rare genetic disorder where symptoms resembling aspects of aging are
displayed at a very early age (Progeria 101). A genetic disease is an illness caused
by one or more abnormalities in the genome, especially a condition that is congenital
(present from birth). Genetic diseases are rare and may or may not be heritable.
There are thousands of extremely rare genetic diseases, one being Progeria. Progeria
affects its victims and their families more than physically; it takes a toll on the mental
and emotional state of mind.
Progeria has many symptoms. Some of these are visible; however, some are less
distinctive. Children with Progeria have normal ... Show more content on

Obviously, there s some process that s accelerated (The Connection). In children
with Progeria, fatty deposits of substances, also known as plaque, build up in the
inner lining of the artery. This plaque can grow so significantly that the blood flow
through the artery is reduced. If the blockage occurs to an artery that leads into the
heart, it causes a heart attack. If the blockage occurs to an artery that leads into the
brain, it causes a stroke. This is how children with Progeria eventually lose to the
disease (The Connection).
Progeria takes more than a physical toll; however: the emotional impact for a child
living with a rare and fatal disease can be terribly difficult and traumatic. Since
children with Progeria have normal intelligence, most of them go to school like
every other child. However, there can be a downside because these children have a
far greater risk of being bullied. Additionally, these children are compelled to do
physical activities somewhat differently. Since they are so petite and have fragile
bones, it is hard for them to get involved in any sport. They also get tired very
easily so they need to take constant breaks from strenuous activities. Even walking a
short distance can cause harm to the body. Children with Progeria need to make sure
to stay well hydrated and have regular, minor physical activity (Diseases) that does
not put them at risk for bone or cardiovascular injury. The emotional backlash
What Is The Summary Of Fire In The Ashes By Jonathan
Kozol
Title: Fire in the Ashes, Jonathan Kozol, Broadway Books Introduction: As a well
accomplished writer, activist, and educator, Jonathan Kozol has devoted his life to
the challenge of providing equal education to every child in our public schools.
Summary of the contents: Fire in the Ashes is an intuitive and exciting book that
details social justice at its core. The poor are getting poorer, the rich richer. Yet, when
these children are faced with obstacles placed by a society who cares more about
money than education, they prove that everything is circumstantial. In Jonathan
Kozol s coming of age novel, he depicts the stories of young men and women who
grow up in some of the most destitute communities in the United States. Rape,...

Many of the families in Kozol s book live in central Manhattan in drug infested
buildings, falling apart from the brick in, whereas in earlier periods of New York s
history were fine hotels. One of such buildings is the Martinique Hotel, where
Kozol afforded much of his time to the families that dwelled there, as referenced in
his book. Those who inhabit the Martinique Hotel are symbolically affected by
New York s renown valor in their conscious, further placing them in the class as
less fortunate within a city that does not afford them many opportunities. Many
homeless neighborhoods find themselves victim to substandard medical and
education facilities. The families, as Kozol describes were shipped by the masses
to communities that already suffer from the city s highest rates of HIV, drug
addiction, pediatric asthma and psychiatric illness (Kozol 11). There is the idea,
as Kozol says, that the homes that these families find themselves in are closed
systems , where rules of normal law and normal governance did not apply (Kozol
8), whereas the people are detached from the rest of society, confined to the
community all in itself. The families he works with are sectioned off by society
because they live in poor areas and confined within a capitalistic economy, have
nowhere to go. In a way, Kozol describes these areas as the capital of homeless
people, surrounded by a city built for the wealthy, by
Advantages And Disadvantages Of Round Robin
Schedulinging...
1.INTRODUCTION
An operating system is an interface between the user of the computer and the
computer hardware. The main purpose of the operating system is to provide user an
environment where he can run the programs in the efficient manner. CPU is
considered to be the heart of the system so it should be effectively used. Improper
use of CPU can reduce the system s efficiency. Hence processes are been continuously
running in the CPU to make it more efficient and have maximum utilization. The
topic we have chosen is enhanced round robin scheduling. There is a reason for
selecting round robin scheduling as it a very fair scheduling that gives equal time
quantum to all process. This is the major advantage over all other scheduling
algorithms. In operating system multi programming is a major issue. The main aim
is to run several processes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This major drawback in Round Robin scheduling. Due to this system performance is
degraded.
More number of Context switches are been used. This leads to wastage of memory
and time , and also leads to scheduler overhead.
Due to this more number of Context switches ,Throughput is also very low.
Due to all this disadvantages the existing Round Robin Scheduling algorithm is made
unfit for the present real time systems. So these drawbacks are being limited in the
proposed system. The Round Robin scheduling is sensitive to the time quantum. The
following two cases arise for scheduling round robin algorithm
If the time quantum is too small then the Round Robin scheduling becomes Processor
sharing algorithm and hence Context Switches becomes high.
If the time quantum is high then the Round Robin Scheduling becomes First Come
First Serve algorithm.
For every value of time quantum will have specific performance and will certainly
affect the algorithm performance. The quantities which gets affect by this are

Xbox One Vs Ps4 Research Paper
For the last couple of years all I have been using is the Xbox as the main console I
use for gaming. I have been very happy with my results, but I think that might
change. Ps2 had a great run, but in my opinion once the Xbox 360 came around I
think it beat the Ps3. Now, that the Ps4 has come around it has changed everything.
This essay is about the Xboxone and the Ps4. At the end of this I will choose which
Is better and why. First we will talk the Ps4 which Is a gaming console made by
Sony, a Japanese company. Other than being a new console, it has also brought new
features that It has never had in the past. With the xbox 360s controller being called

of burning through controller batteries quick and i don t feel going out and buying
a $30 rechargeable stands, but this is where Ps4 comes into place. This console is
more convenient because it is smaller that the Xbox one. The Ps4 already come with
a rechargeable cable which means that instead of waiting for my controller to get
done charging, i can play and charge it at the same time.
In conclusion the Ps4 comes out on top overpowering the Xbox one, although that
could change. Microsoft has unveiled that they are coming up with a new console
called Project Scorpio that is planning to beat the Ps4 by adding some of the Ps4 s
features like vr(virtual reality) combined with their own. I still have hope for, since
i have been using the Xbox all my life, but we will have to wait and see later this
year to see what it has and for now, the Ps4 reigns
The Importance Of The AP Literature Exam
What is the AP literature exam, and why should I care? Many high school students
ask themselves this question as they are drawing near to the date of their exam. The
fact that this question is asked constantly is exactly the reason that Mr. McGee has
assigned this essay to the AP Literature class. The AP Lit test
consists of two parts, and
the first is the multiple choicesection. The second part, has three free response essay
questions that must be answered in two hours.Of course, if a student wishes to do
well on a test they should have an understanding of how it is scored, and this AP
test is no different. Using the text Five Steps to a Five, and Crash Course, a student
can develop an idea of what the AP Literature Exam will look like. The first part of
the AP Lit Exam is a section comprised of fifty five multiple choice questions that
thoroughly test a student s knowledge about prose and poetry. Within these questions
You can expect to see 4 5 excerpts of prose and poetry, (Howell). These excerpts are
without titles, authors or a date, the student is completely reliant upon their
knowledge to answer. Although the date of the texts are not given, one can expect it
to be between the 16th century and the 21st century, not that that helps at all. Most of
these works will be in English, but occasionally they will be written in a translated
form. According to experts, there are eight types of multiple choice questions that
may appear on the test: reading comprehension

  • 2. My First Time I Went Tubing With My Best Friend Gracye Overcoming A Fear I am writing about the time I first went tubing with my best friend Gracye. It happened when I was 13 years old. I was invited for the second time to my best friend s lake house and she forced me to go on her Parent s speed boat. Before all this took place, on the way to her lake house we watched the Teen Beach 2 movie and there was a saying in that movie it was Gonna march to the beat; gonna do my thing this was significant quote because i chanted it while I was tubing when I got scared. When we got to the lake house Gracye and I unloaded our things along with the stuff for her Mom s party. We sat on her bed eating Cheez its and Pub Mix while drinking raspberry iced tea, waiting for her Dad to take us on the lake. While ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When I was whipped off the tube, I had skidded across the water like a skipping rock. When I was pulled back onto the boat I was cold from being submerged into the lake by the whip. • 3. Holden Caulfield Adolescence Essay My patient, Holden Caulfield, is a very different teenager. After our first session together, I could tell he wasn t your typical teen. He seems to not enjoy the things other teenagers enjoy. To me, it seems like he keeps to himself a lot. In our first session, Holden told me about how he had gotten kicked out of his boarding school, Pencey Prep. He hadn t told his parents or even tried to contact them when he went he left Pencey and gone to New York. He also explained to me about the death of his younger brother, Allie. Holden explained that he was very hurt and a mess after his brother died. Another topic that was discussed in our first session was girls. Holden told me to how he reacted after the death, I slept in the garage the night he died, and I broke all the goddamn windows with my fist, just for the hell of it. (pg. 21 pdf) He was 13 when this death occurred and he mentioned that his parents were going to get him psychoanalyzed because of what he did. After breaking all the windows in the garage, he tried to break the windows on the station wagon with his already broken hand. This shows how sad and down he got about his brother Allie dying. Everything in life was going well for Holden, family wise, and then a death happened to someone who Holden enjoyed a lot. Another girl Holden talked about in our session is Sally Hayes. The night before Holden makes a date with Sally, he has a prostitute named Sally come to his room. He just left Pencey, so to me, this is his way of letting out some sadness and anger. Holden says he didn t do anything with her because he wasn t in the mood anymore. This shows that some depression is coming into his activity level. Holden told me about what him and Sally did on their date. They first went to a show called The Lunts. During the show, Holden said Sally saw a boy she knew named George and he went to Andover. I sort of hated ofl Sally by the time we got in the cab, after listening to that phony Andover Bastard for about ten hours. (pg. 69 pdf) Holden told me. He went on to say that they went ice skating at Radio City. After ice skating, Holden explains how he wanted to run away with Sally. She kept saying no because they were still children. He told me that he told her You give me a royal pain in the ass, if you want to know the truth. (pg. 72 pdf) At this point, both of them hated each other. Holden said he apologized over and over to her but he ended up just leaving her at the rink. This shows how he can t keep their relationship in a good place and his mood changed out

  • 7. Avalon Character Analysis In Barry Levinson s 1990 film Avalon, we meet a young Russian Jewish Immigrant named Sam Krichinsky who arrives in America on July 4th, 1914. He is mesmerized by the streaming, bright and colorful lights of the fireworks that night as he walks through his new neighborhood in Baltimore, an area called Avalon. Though he does not say it, you can tell by the wonder in his eyes and sense of awe that he is a young man who has just fallen in love with America. By the end of the film, Sam is frail and in a nursing home. His once autumn brown eyes are no longer filled with wonder, just the thick cloudiness of old age. His right hand is tremulous, his face is marked with brown age spots. He is very forgetful, but he can still tell the story of the night he came to America. His forgetfulness bothers him though, and he relates to his visiting grown grandson (his favorite) how a few years back he returned to the old neighborhood and found it virtually gone, nothing familiar, even some of the streets he knew no longer existed. He tells his grandson in a bewildered and still thickly accented voice, If I knew things would no longer be here, I would have tried to remember better. He does find one spot that still exists though, a nightclub he used to own in the 1940 s. He says to his grandson is a soft, yet weary voice, Ah, thank God, it was there, because for a minute I thought I never was. My Dad, Bill McCarthy, born in June of 1924, is slowly becoming Sam. He is 93. His hair is snow white and straight, but I ask myself wasn t it at one time full of waves that I coveted? What happened? My Dad, who was never tall is smaller now, maybe 5 4 , but his gait is still fairly quick and lively. About a month ago I visited him at his small home in New Jersey. He has home health aides now twice a day because he fell a few months back and fractured two ribs. Though, he would never say so, I know he hates that they are there. They are very friendly and competent women, but I know he resents and fears them. I don t blame him; their existence only proves that his clock is winding down. It is hard to have a conversation with my dad now. He watches Fox News all day long, but of late he has confided to me that he has a hard time

Keith Jarrett s Personality, Philosophy, And Music Keith Jarrett is an American pianist whose personality, philosophy, and music emerge as a force; not only within a jazz context, but within any contemporary American musical style. The width of Jarretts musical ability, crossing all genres of music, including, but not limited to: jazz, classical, and world music, is unmatched by most. But, for some reason his name, or playing is very rarely mentioned outside of the jazz idiom. Keith Jarretts profound and philosophical explanations for his music give us a rare example of an immensely talented musician, who is unafraid to contend with the public eye. So, they enrolled him in private school where his IQ was tested. It was found to be at a genius level and the six year old boy was then enrolled in third grade instead of first, where his age would have normally placed him. Keith Jarrett began to give public performances at a very young age. The famous bandleader, Paul Whiteman, had a talent searching program on television and when Keith was only five years old he was taken to Philadelphia to appear on Whiteman s show. Keith was given an award for his performance on this TV program. When Jarrett was fifteen years old, the piano lessons stopped. This was due to his parents divorce the year before. Now that Jarrett wasn t spending hours a day working on classical repertoire he was free to make his own music and develop his own sound. He started playing dance music, popular music, and most importantly, Jazz. He then got a fake book as a gift from a friend and this was the first time he put together a group of jazz musicians. Out of these six pieces, the Main Street U.S.A. displays the most provocative imagery using the religious icons. A bleeding, beaten and crucified Jesus is riding a 1950s bicycle while a young girl sits towards the front of the painting waving the American flag at him. This painting displays a bit of dark humor, and how the world turns religious symbols and people into humorous and sellable icons. The image of Christ after the crucifixion is one that is seen in the much religious artwork. Here, Ryden humors the image and with displaying it in front of a young, innocent girl, takes away the seriousness and whatever reservation that is held when portraying Christ. Ryden takes away the surrounding religious aspect of the figure of Christ, as he is usually portrayed on a cross or in spiritual and holy positions and postures. He is associated with other saints, helping out the innocent or troubled and depicted in biblical stories. Although he paints Christ bleeding, beaten, and after the crucifixion, he disassociates Christ with the 1950s theme, American flags, and the activity he is doing. In this way, Ryden turns this icon into a child s perspective. He makes it humorous and makes it almost playful. In Ryden s work, The Piano Man, Christ sits at a pink piano, decorated with Sacred Hearts. On top of the piano sit three young girls, each with a different expression on their face. Ryden includes many religious images here. There is Christ, Sacred Hearts, and there are three girls as three is a holy number in Catholicism. There is no more explicit instance than in the Jazz Age, when wealth and prosperity became the destination of the American Dream. The decadence of both the old money and new money accentuates the flaws of the American Dream. Fitzgerald in The Great Gatsby utilizes the embodiment of Jay Gatsby to illustrate the pursuit of wealth and the corruption associated with it. Jay Gatsby s aspirations to become wealthy in order to impress Daisy, and the ultimate failure to achieve his dream portrays Fitzgerald s theme that pursuit of monetary success, while encouraged in society, eclipses morality and ultimately leads to destruction. Gatsby attempts to reinvent himself due to his disdain towards the life of the lower class, and begins his path towards a wealthy lifestyle with his encounters with Dan Cody. While Gatsby pondered his dreams at night, the moon soaked with wet light his tangled clothes upon the floor (99). Since then, the idea of approved extra martial affairs have become even more popular, despite the uneducated critics hollering about it being an insult to the institution of marriage, or a way to justify cheating on one s significant other. As open marriages start to become a more feasible option for couples looking to explore their sexuality, a common question always seems to come up; this inquiry, in fact, will be the purpose of the following text. To begin, I use examples from the 2004 biographical film Kinsey, directed by Bill Condon and produced by Gail Mutrux. While integrating discussion from Tristan Taormino and her book Opening Up: A Guide to Sustaining Open Relationships, I introduce the concept of sociosexuality with the help of Lars Penke s Sociosexual Orientation Inventory. In creating discussion with the above names, I aim to demonstrate just what does make for a successful open relationship. This hard, wicked time was the beginning of the start of a new law, known as the Jim Crow Laws, that erased the rights for former slaves all across the south. The phrase Jim Crow originated from Thomas Rice, who created a stage play about an African Americannamed Jim who was owned by a man name Mr. Crow. In the Play, Rice was in costume as a Jim and danced around singing a song saying Jump Jim Crow which became very popular in the south thus creating the name for the law that segregated blacks from whites. White southerners were not willing to have the same rights as African Americans, so they decided to segregate all blacks and whites. The origin of the name Jim Crow came from a stage play

Cummings Anyone Lived in a Pretty How Town In reading this poem the first time, I had no clue as to what Cummings was speaking of. However, after many times through and several on line readings, I believe that I have some semblance as to what Cummings was trying to convey in this poem. In reading this poem through on my own the first time, I saw Anyone as any person. However, Anyone is actually an individual, as is Noone. Anyone is seen to be a happy person as in line 4, he is seen singing and dancing. You can see that they were in each other s lives for a long time because in line 10 we see that the children who noticed their love are now adults. These children, as adults, marry but not for love and we also see some of the die in line 20, they slept their dream . I see in lines 25 30 that their love was so deep that when Anyone died it was not shortly after that Noone also passed away. It is a very sad life that I see for the other members in this community. Some of the children have that innocence to see things very clearly. However, when they grow up, they lose it. Cummings even states that only the snow can begin to explain how children are apt to forget to remember . I take this line to mean that children are so innocent and fun loving when there is snow falling. Children do not really have too many inhibitions as of yet, but when there is snow on the ground, they lose the inhibitions that they had. Yet, as we age, we lose that innocence and fun, care free nature that we once had. However, there are a few things that can bring that fun loving nature back to many of us and that is

The Incident In Bradford s Of Plymouth Plantation The incident that Bradford describes in Of Plymouth Plantation that stood out to me was his description of the lusty Indian who withstood three shots of a musket (79). Bradford seems to marvel at the Indian s perseverance while coincidentally he is pleased with success of the English. Bradford s detached reaction to a human relentlessly enduring multiple gun shot wounds instead of empathizing with the Indian s agony concludes that Bradford seems to see the Indian s suffering as a self righteous intervention by God. A great proportion of goods transactions occur every second. The primary question is whether international trade benefits a country as an entirety, and, if so, why would a country implement protective trade policies to restrict particular exports? To address this question, this essay aims to explore the impact of trade on various economic stakeholders, including consumers, producers, labour and government and, furthermore, will compare models and theories with reality to ascertain the true winner/ loser in the international trade market. Consumers definitely benefit from increasing purchasing power in terms of lower relative prices. Nonetheless, the real prices of certain commodities such as lamb, tobacco and beef have increased over time due to increasing world average income, which encourages world demand. Interestingly, developing countries, which form the predominant exporters of primary commodities, earn lower relative prices over time, for instance, palm oil arrives primarily from Indonesia and Malaysia and raw sugar arrives mostly from Brazil and Thailand. Contrariwise, the world suppliers of lamb are the United Kingdom, Spain and Australia and, moreover, 14% of world bovine meat arrives from the United States (Simoes, 2013). Therefore, it can be argued that greater advantages are granted to suppliers in developed countries than those in developing countries by trade liberalisation. Aside from the impact on price, the opening of an economy attracts imports into the domestic country, which results in the provision of variety for consumers. For example, eleven mobile phone companies control 66.6% of the world market share, inclusive of Samsung, Sony, Apple, Nokia and Huawei. These companies originated in Korea, Japan, United States, Finland and China respectively (Williams, 2015). Consumer s gain from choice and, therefore, higher utility can be achieved. It was a short, cherry red fringed skirt made of the finest Italian cotton. She disappeared in the fitting room for a couple of minutes to try it on. Camera flashes light up the hallway as she takes pictures of herself modeling the skirt from different angles. However, the more she fell in love with the skirt the more hesitant she became of the pricey $400 pricetag. Unable to justify the price of the skirt, she walked away empty handed towards a different store. After scanning multiple isles at Zara, a skirt very similar to the one she tried on earlier appeared for a fraction of the price. Sure the skirt had some loose threads and the quality of the cotton was cheaper, but the look was spot on, and was a much better purchase. Now while most of us would agree that a price reduction on a pricey item this big might seem like a savvy and economical choice, but these low price tags come with a much larger expense to others that people are not aware of. These unaccounted expenses vary from the pollution of water and air, down to the soil where these factories are built and established. • 35. Literary Analysis Of A Rose For Emily By William Faulkner 1 Literary Analysis on A Rose For Emily by William Faulkner William Faulkner has done a wonderful work in his essay A Rose for Emily. Faulkner uses symbols, settings, character development, and other literary devices to express the life of Emily and the behavior of the people of Jefferson town towards her. By reading the essay, the audience cannot really figure out who the narrator is. It seems like the narrator can be the town s collective voice. The fact that the narrator uses collective pronoun we supports the theory that the narrator is describing the life of Miss Emily on behalf of the townspeople. Faulkner has used the flashback device in his essay to make it more interesting. The story begins with the portrayal of Emily s funeral and it moves to her past and at the end the readers realize that the funeral is a flashback as well. The story starts with the death of Miss Emily when he was seventy four years old and it takes us back when she is a young and attractive girl. Faulkner has characterized all the characters in the best possible way. Emily Grierson, Homer Barron, Judge Stevens the mayor of Jefferson, Mr. Grierson Emily s father, Tobe Emily s servant, and Colonel Sartoris a former mayor of Jefferson are the major charters in the story. The narrator describes Emily as a monument, but with a lot of negativity. The story shows us how she was a smart young girl and then how she end up being an overprotective and secretive old woman. She refused to accept the change when her father died and that s why she kept telling all the people in town that her father is still alive. Homer Barron is much like Emily. Like Emily, Homer is an outsider and becomes the topic of gossip. The narrator describes Homer as a big man with dark complexion with a good sense of humor. Tobe s character in the story plays an important role. He is a loyal and dutiful servant. He cared for Emily till she died, but he walked out of the back door and never returned after Emily s death. Mr. Grierson was a well maintained person. When he was alive, Emily s house was always beautifully maintained. He earned a lot of respect in the society but when he died the respect towards his family died with him. Faulkner uses

In Jonathan Kozol s coming of age novel, he depicts the stories of young men and women who grow up in some of the most destitute communities in the United States. Rape,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many of the families in Kozol s book live in central Manhattan in drug infested buildings, falling apart from the brick in, whereas in earlier periods of New York s history were fine hotels. One of such buildings is the Martinique Hotel, where Kozol afforded much of his time to the families that dwelled there, as referenced in his book. Those who inhabit the Martinique Hotel are symbolically affected by New York s renown valor in their conscious, further placing them in the class as less fortunate within a city that does not afford them many opportunities. Many homeless neighborhoods find themselves victim to substandard medical and education facilities. The families, as Kozol describes were shipped by the masses to communities that already suffer from the city s highest rates of HIV, drug addiction, pediatric asthma and psychiatric illness (Kozol 11). There is the idea, as Kozol says, that the homes that these families find themselves in are closed systems , where rules of normal law and normal governance did not apply (Kozol 8), whereas the people are detached from the rest of society, confined to the community all in itself. The families he works with are sectioned off by society because they live in poor areas and confined within a capitalistic economy, have nowhere to go. In a way, Kozol describes these areas as the capital of homeless people, surrounded by a city built for the wealthy, by
  • 49. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Round Robin Schedulinging... 1.INTRODUCTION An operating system is an interface between the user of the computer and the computer hardware. The main purpose of the operating system is to provide user an environment where he can run the programs in the efficient manner. CPU is considered to be the heart of the system so it should be effectively used. Improper use of CPU can reduce the system s efficiency. Hence processes are been continuously running in the CPU to make it more efficient and have maximum utilization. The topic we have chosen is enhanced round robin scheduling. There is a reason for selecting round robin scheduling as it a very fair scheduling that gives equal time quantum to all process. This is the major advantage over all other scheduling algorithms. In operating system multi programming is a major issue. The main aim is to run several processes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This major drawback in Round Robin scheduling. Due to this system performance is degraded. More number of Context switches are been used. This leads to wastage of memory and time , and also leads to scheduler overhead. Due to this more number of Context switches ,Throughput is also very low. Due to all this disadvantages the existing Round Robin Scheduling algorithm is made unfit for the present real time systems. So these drawbacks are being limited in the proposed system. The Round Robin scheduling is sensitive to the time quantum. The following two cases arise for scheduling round robin algorithm If the time quantum is too small then the Round Robin scheduling becomes Processor sharing algorithm and hence Context Switches becomes high. If the time quantum is high then the Round Robin Scheduling becomes First Come First Serve algorithm. For every value of time quantum will have specific performance and will certainly affect the algorithm performance. The quantities which gets affect by this are Waiting time Turnaround time Number of Context switches Response

I have been very happy with my results, but I think that might change. Ps2 had a great run, but in my opinion once the Xbox 360 came around I think it beat the Ps3. Now, that the Ps4 has come around it has changed everything. This essay is about the Xboxone and the Ps4. At the end of this I will choose which Is better and why. First we will talk the Ps4 which Is a gaming console made by Sony, a Japanese company. Other than being a new console, it has also brought new features that It has never had in the past. With the xbox 360s controller being called the best controller ever made, Ps4 knew they had to step it up. In this model Playstation... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Speaking of online play, some games on the Ps4 do not need to go online to play, which good for the times my wifi goes down or if I dont have wifi. I have a habit of burning through controller batteries quick and i don t feel going out and buying a $30 rechargeable stands, but this is where Ps4 comes into place. This console is more convenient because it is smaller that the Xbox one. The Ps4 already come with a rechargeable cable which means that instead of waiting for my controller to get done charging, i can play and charge it at the same time. In conclusion the Ps4 comes out on top overpowering the Xbox one, although that could change. Microsoft has unveiled that they are coming up with a new console called Project Scorpio that is planning to beat the Ps4 by adding some of the Ps4 s features like vr(virtual reality) combined with their own. I still have hope for, since i have been using the Xbox all my life, but we will have to wait and see later this year to see what it has and for now, the Ps4 reigns

Many high school students ask themselves this question as they are drawing near to the date of their exam. The fact that this question is asked constantly is exactly the reason that Mr. McGee has assigned this essay to the AP Literature class. The AP Lit test consists of two parts, and the first is the multiple choicesection. The second part, has three free response essay questions that must be answered in two hours.Of course, if a student wishes to do well on a test they should have an understanding of how it is scored, and this AP test is no different. Using the text Five Steps to a Five, and Crash Course, a student can develop an idea of what the AP Literature Exam will look like. The first part of the AP Lit Exam is a section comprised of fifty five multiple choice questions that thoroughly test a student s knowledge about prose and poetry. Within these questions You can expect to see 4 5 excerpts of prose and poetry, (Howell). These excerpts are without titles, authors or a date, the student is completely reliant upon their knowledge to answer. Although the date of the texts are not given, one can expect it to be between the 16th century and the 21st century, not that that helps at all. Most of these works will be in English, but occasionally they will be written in a translated form. According to experts, there are eight types of multiple choice questions that may appear on the test: reading comprehension
