In The Shawl , Cynthia Ozick uses vivid details throughout the story to engage the
reader. The story portrays the hard times Jews had during the Holocaust in a
concentration camp consisting of three main characters: Rosa, Stella, and Magda
who are trying to survive the horror of Nazism through a magical shawl. Rosa is the
mother of Magda, a fifteen month baby and the aunt of Stella, a fourteen year old
girl. The shawl is the only thing keeping them alive throughout the story and at the
end it leads them to their death. The author s use of symbolism is very significant to

illusion concerning the magic shawl (Gordon 322). One of the first symbols the
shawl delivers is life and death. This magical shawl has nourished Magda for three
days and three nights due to Rosa not being able to produce milk for her. In the
story it says The shawl was Magda s own baby, her pet, her little sister. (Ozick 248)
which tells us that the shawl has become Magda s life. The shawl somehow seems
to feed her, protect her and keep her alive. For Magda, this shawl has become
everything: mother, food, clothing, and shelter. (Gordon 322). Even though the
shawl in some way kept Magda alive and it symbolized her life, unfortunately at the
end it became the symbol of her death. Even though the shawl did not literally wrap
her in death, the shawl that nourished her and protected her in life was the same

Kentucky Fried Chicken, popularly known as KFC, was founded by Harland
Sanders. Starting from his roadside restaurant selling fried chicken in roadside
restaurant in Corbin, Kentucky, to expanding his restaurant and naming it Sanders
Court and Cafe in 1937,the first franchise of this chain opened in Utah in 1952
where he franchised his recipe to Pete Harman who was well know restaurant
operator. The name KFC was quoted by a sign painter, Don Anderson, hired by
Harman, creating a distinct image of restaurant showing Southern hospitality in Utah.
Before reaching to present state of this company, KFC has been traded many
times. In 1964, Sanders sold the company to John Y. Brown Jr. and Jack C.
Massey with the agreement including life time salary for him along with his
appointment as company s quality controller and trademark. Later in July 1971,
KFC was sold again to a company named Heublein, a packaged food and drink
corporation. Heublein was bought by R.J. Reynolds, the tobacco giants in 1982 and
in July 1986, Reynolds sold KFC to Pepsi Co. The name Kentucky Fried Chicken
was officially adopted in 1991. Further, Pepsi Co. created its independent restaurants
division in 1997 and named it Tricon Global Restaurants which was renamed to Yum!

Mostly all of the members of the meeting read a paragraph and then reflected on
what step meant for them now, why the felt it was important, and/or anything else
they wanted to say about it. I chose not to read aloud from the book when it was
my turn because I felt a little uncomfortable. Not everyone chose to read aloud, so
that helped me to feel more comfortable and not as out of place. There were a lot of
repeated reflections about how the members felt like they had to be the one to
take care of everything and everyone. They felt responsible for everyone s actions
and took responsibility if/when something went wrong. Also, there was discussion

able to take care of anyone else, they had to be able to take care of themselves first.

addiction is very hard, not just for the person who has the addiction, but for family

The driving forces behind this work are related to the increased use of nanopolymers
for biomedical purposes. Charged and neutral polymers are routinely used for gene
and drug delivery. However, limited studies are performed to test their safety.
Therefore, the originality of this work lies in its attempt to evaluate the toxicity of
three widely used polymers for delivery of chemotherapeutic agents. Furthermore, we
aim to establish efficient methods for nanotoxicity testing through comparing the
results of three different models ( 2D, 3D invitro cell cultures and invivo zebrafish
embryo)preparing these materials for clinical application.
Abstract
Nanomaterials exhibit a wide range of applications in different aspects of human
life . In biomedical fields, nanoparticles are packaged into different nanocarriers for
