5 years and everything is settled, all of them have decent jobs and some have started a family.
Pretty little liars focuses on four themes throughout the 7 seasons: groups and organization,

Jaycee Dugard s Kidnapping Research Paper
A Stolen Life: Inside Jaycee Dugard s Kidnapping In 1991, Jaycee Dugard was an ordinary,
happy eleven year old girl living in Lake Tahoe, California. On day, as she was walking to
school, a strange vehicle pulled up beside her. Sensing something was wrong, the child began to
move away from the suspicious van, but before she could get away she felt a rush of electricity
through her body; she was shot by a stun gun. Unable to resist, Jaycee was dragged into the car,
covered with a blanket, and driven to her kidnapper s hidden backyard where she would be held
captive for eighteen years. When Jaycee first arrived in the backyard, she was handcuffed and
locked in the makeshift music room built by Phillip Garrido, her kidnapper. The small room... Show

Her writings are heart wrenching and full of longing for freedom, happiness, and her mother. At
the end of each entry she would draw heart shaped balloons and look at the moon, hoping her
mother could feel her love and sense that she was still out there somewhere. There were many
times where Jaycee and her girls were openly walking around the main house next to Philip s
parole officers. Too afraid to speak up, Dugard silently hoped they would recognize her and free
her from the prison that she was in, but any questions that they had Philip would answer and
they didn t probe him further. This led Dugard to develop a mistrust with law enforcement that
she is still battling to get over, because of the eighteen miserable birthdays she spent with two
criminals and her children in a hidden backyard. Once Phillip trusted Jaycee to keep quiet, she
was allowed to go in public for the first time in over ten years. She begged with her eyes for
someone to ask her if she was the girl that had been missing for so long, but no one did. That
was, until a female cop s motherly instincts told her something was up with Jaycee and her
daughter s behavior around the Garridos. Although she couldn t legally arrest him, she called his
parole officer after doing a background check and digging up his offense as a pedophile. He was
then arrested at his home and Jaycee and her

Stan Lee Impact On Society
Stan Lee, a 95 year old actor, writer, publisher, T.V. host, and media producer that has created one
of the most successful franchises worldwide, Marvel. With the hundreds of characters, that he
either has created or helped to create, he has been able to shape the minds of many. He is able to
influence from what costumes kids wear on halloween to what to what they watch. Though this
might seem overwhelming or distracting to some it can be helpful to those in need of an escape,
plus they can be pretty fun to read. Stan Lee, a well aged man whom hasn t changed for anyone but

While Stan Lee s legacy is still evolving it has already made a big impact on both society and
entertainment. Thanks to Stan there is more diversity in characters in shows and movies, and they
are more geared toward children while also keeping a ___ story line that adults love and some
jokes for the adults to enjoy. This can help parents introduce their kids to what is right and what is
wrong more easily. Though the changes he has caused haven t just affected children and their
parents, when his characters started to become more and more popular other companies began
joining them in the newest trend.
As other companies started to become less popular and the writing industry become more exclusive,
Marvel s popularity soared and the company grew rapidly. When their competitors realised what
was happening they started making deals with them. Though many other businesses still thought
that it was just a fad, as a result many of them failed...
Though Stan Lee s impact has affected Marvel s competitors greatly, he has also affected the need
for children s toys and collectables. An example of this change would be

Lee s Health Quotes
Anne Fadiman struggles to find the answer to who is responsible for Lia Lee s health in her
book, The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down. The book describes the clashing of both the
medical community within Merced, California, and a Hmong refugee family, the Lees, cultural
beliefs. The Lees daughter, Lia Lee, is plagued with a severe case of epilepsy, or qaug dab peg in
Hmong, as a child and is administered to the Mercy Medical Center Merced, or MCMC, a
hospital in Merced, California. The doctors there go through many struggles in order to work with
the Lee family, as they are faced with cultural and language barriers that they must overcome in
order to ensure Lia is in good health. The Lees do not feel that they are in the wrong, for their...

Patients were people who came to the doctors with hope of getting cured and if they did not listen
to the doctor, then they would be deemed a bad patient. The doctors of the MCMC community did
not ever try to get to know their patients emotionally, so they did not care who they were trying to
help. For example, (quote from when dr was complaining how many other patients he has). A large
amount of the patients at the hospital were Hmong, (quote about how many Hmong were in

regularly. The doctors would hope a janitor would be on staff to roughly translate for them what
medications their Hmong patients should take to become healthy once more. Their ignorance led to
many misunderstandings, leading the Hmong community as a whole to not trust the MCMC
hospital. (quote/paraphrase about the Hmong not trusting the hospital). The hospital did spend lots
of their time trying to get their ideas across via stickers and calendars they provided to their patients
that could not understand English, but all of that extra effort would not have been needed if they
had hired a full time interpreter. The MCMC hospital did not think it mattered if they could or
could not have a deep meaningful conversion with their Hmong patients, otherwise they would have

The people of the Renaissance had a different mindset and attitude than the medieval people
because what they lived for made a drastic change after the bubonic hit. During the Middle Ages,
the thought of God dominated everyones mindset, the thought of heaven excited everyone, the
though of hell created a sense of fear. The afterlife was portrayed as perfect heaven by the Roman
Catholic Church, which was filled with the most educated people, leaving them as the only place
people can go to for anything. No one questioned them because there was nothing else to believe in

Junk Mail And The Art Of Hype Essay example
The art of hype pervades advertising of all kinds. You can see it everywhere you go. It s
characterized by its extensive use of exclamation points, big words, powerful colors, and giant

rendering their savings miniscule.
These details are usually confined to quot;fine print quot; which they expect no one to read.No

going. They want to find something that they will enjoy consuming. The shopper and the seller are

All the seller has to do is make the package look appealing and the shopper will be curious about it
(qtd. in Maasik 46). But in junk mail, the sender knows that no one wants to read their sales pitch,
and that, in fact, most of their mail goes straight into the trash can without much more than a glance.
Therefore, junk mail must sell itself in that one, vital glance.Do Americans have such a short

The Banking Concept Of Education Summary
The banking concept of education is a short essay written by Paulo Freire, which describes his
views on inadequate education. The banking concept of education and the problem posing
education method are two teaching methods Freire uses to explain the differences between what is
inadequate teaching and what is not. The banking concept of educationis a method of teaching
education to students as if they are depositories and the teacher is the depositor. Students only
receive the information from the teacher to memorize and report. The problem posing education
method involves a combination of the teacher teaching the student and the student teaching the
teacher through dialogue. This makes the classroom environment more interactive. Freire... Show

When referring to the banking concept of education, Freire wrote Knowledge is a gift bestowed by
those who consider themselves knowledgeable upon those whom they consider to know nothing .
This means the teacher knows everything and the student knows nothing. For the problem posing
education method, Freire wrote that it affirms men and women as being in the process of becoming
as unfinished, uncompleted beings in and with likewise unfinished reality. The unfinished character
of reality necessitates that education be an ongoing activity . Freire urges to move away the
traditional education system and use alternative education methods like the problem posing method
so students are encouraged to be critical thinkers in not only an educational setting but in life in

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Directors Compensation
It is not true that shareholders control over directors pay is largely ineffective and demonstrates a
significant weakness in UK corporate governance.
Executive compensation refers to the financial compensation, as well as other non financial
awards received by an executive from their firm as a result of their service to the organization. It
mostly refers to a combination of salary, bonuses, shares of or call options on the company stock,
benefits, and privileges, usually constructed to take into account government regulations, tax law,
the desires of the organization and the executive, and rewards for performance. Executive pay
plays a fairly crucial part of corporate governance, and is often under the control of the company s
board of directors.

shareholder wealth but also penalizes them if they destroy it.
While disadvantages do exist in giving shareholder s the power in controlling the compensation
packages of directors, it essentialy does not result in ineffectiveness or demonstrate any fom of
severe weakness in the UK s corporate governance. In fact, it is the opposite. The advantages that
arise from this scheme have shown that it has worked for the better and thus, proving its

Body Stereotyping Within The Media
Mark LoPuzzoEnglish 101 Mrs. BallSenior Research Paper Body Stereotyping within the
Media Of course you could stand to lose a few pounds. This was said by an individual struggling
with bulimia. The public is presented with thin, tall, muscular, and perfectly fit people in the
media such as magazines or television shows, making people with a more natural body image
feel insecure and unpleased with their body type. The media is promoting body stereotypes and
it is negatively affecting the public. The media displays the average man as being hairless and
very well built which may negatively affect the male population. Body stereotyping in the media
can lead to body dysmorphia. Body dysmorphia is common among the younger generation
because they are more adept at using social media. The media displays the average man as being
hairless and very well built which may negatively affect the male population. The public blames
the media and celebrities for supporting the idea of the ideal body type. Both men and women
want slim, fit bodies. But the media has turned both genders against each other making it a
competition, which is negatively affecting the public ( Body image concerns more men than
women, research finds ). According to Chris Godsey, emphasis on male physical beauty in the
media may contribute to negative body image in boys and young men. He contends that repeated

At the beginning of the play, Trifles, a play by Susan Glaspell the characters enter the farmhouse

house which immediately reflects the barren and rigid nature of the home and life of Mrs. Wright.
Glaspell uses the female characters in this play to demonstrate the harsh life of women in society
during this time period that was forgotten about and not taken seriously (Al Khalili, 132). The
coldness of Mrs. Wright s life was reflected in many ways throughout the play. First, through John
Wright who was described by Mrs. Hale as a hard man / Like a raw wind that gets to the bone.

Political Ideas of Niccolo Machiavelli, Francesco Guicciardini, and Thomas Hobbes
The sections that I will be presenting are 73, 74, and 75. I will discuss the political ideas of
Niccolo Machiavelli, Francesco Guicciardini, and Thomas Hobbes during the time of Florence
Republic. First, Niccolo Machiavelli was born in Florence, Italy in 1469 at a time when the country
was in political upheaval. Italy was divided between four dominant city states, by which each of
them was always at the mercy of the continual changing of princes and governments.
In Donald Kelley s Version of History, the Medici family had brought a form of stability to
Florence, but the golden age of Florentine republic soon declined after the death of Lorenzo ... Show

Machiavelli recognizes Lycurgus of deserving the highest praise for the governing of Sparta in
distributing power to the king, the nobles, and the people. He established a government, which
lasted for over eight hundred years. Machiavelli uses the Roman Empire as an example because
they conquered the world and held their power for over a thousand years. They accomplished
this from having strength and stability. Florence needs to replicate the ideologies of Rome in
order to become as powerful and great. Machiavelli wants Florence to adopt these patterns so that
ultimately Florence will have the same success as Rome. In short, I think Machiavelli is
emphasizing the importance of decisive action and courage. He uses bold writings to encourage
men, so that they will build a safe and stable world for people.
Francesco Guicciardini: Section 74 Francesco Guicciardini was born in 1483 and died in 1540,
like Machiavelli he worked for government of Florence and wrote about the history of his city
and country as well as about the politics of his time. His philosophies toward politics were formed
after the invasion of the French invasions of 1494. Francesco and Machiavelli had one thing in

Population Health Policy Analysis
Effectively managing the health of a Nation is a major undertaking and requires a concerted
effort on the part of its people. Governmental agencies use legislation and laws to help facilitate
ethical care in the healthcare industry. Ethical care is determined by the philosophies and values
of people within a specified population. The nursing field has set high standards in the way that its
members treat the populations in their care. The competencies, values, and goals of the nursing
profession have been standardized by The Quality Safety and Education for Nurses (QSEN)

Lifestyle choices are influenced by culture, individual worldviews, age, gender, and so forth (Nash
et al., 2016). These choices can impact the care that individuals receive and should be taken into
consideration when determining treatment plans (Nash et al., 2016). Assessing the total needs of
individuals requires health professionals that are sensitive to these unique needs in order to
influence positive healthcare change (Hostetter, S., Klein. (2013). Nurses play an important role in
providing optimal patient care that addresses the unique needs of each individual patient (Sherwood

Psychosocial Development in Middle Childhood
Children in middle childhood are growing psychosocially at a quick rate. During middle childhood
they become industrious, develop a self concept, and learn how to be friends, amongst other things.
In Erickson s Stages of Development a child in middle childhood, (or children from age six to age
eleven), move through the industry versus inferiority stage. This stage is marked by the child
working to gain new skills and in general just being productive (Click P. M., Parker J., 2002, p.
89). A child who is successful in their attempts will gain confidence in themselves and move on into
adolescence firmly on the industrious side. A child who is not successful in acquiring the skills they

They will become more materialistic, and desperate for the positive attention of their peers as they
continue to grow (Berger K. S., 2010, p. 286).
During middle childhood a person s peers become important, and not just for social comparison.
Friendships become much more intense during middle childhood, demanding things like loyalty
and secrecy. Children learn how to be good friends during this time period. If they have no friends
by the end of this developmental period then they are more likely to be depressed in adolescence
(Berger K. S., 2010, p 305).
Child culture surrounds the children, and grows separately from adult culture. It includes all the
rules, superstitions, and stories that children learn from slightly older children. Examples of child
culture are; hand clapping games, jump rope rhymes, and stories about Bloody Mary. Child culture
also encourages independence from adults (Berger K. S., 2010, p. 304), usually through name
calling the ones who don t fall into line. The child will often seek out friends who are rebellious
towards adults, including their parents.
The way a family raises their child will affect how a child will grow. The family structure
determines who is in their immediate vicinity, and the family function determines how they care for
each other. Family structures can vary widely, from the nuclear family to the single parent home to
the adoptive family. During middle

Summary Of Too Many People Are Going To College
The standard way of thinking about college has often given the impression that education will open
doors. College is foretold to be the wisest choice a student can make to better their future with a
successful, high paying job. Yet Charles Murray, author of the article Too Many People Are Going
To College, introduces a controversial side to the argument, believing that the decision for students
to attend college is one of great importance, but the choice may be made too soon. Murray
emphasizes the reasons why this situation exists and continues to be proven true in today s society
with factors such as the misleading statements to students about college and the high academic
standards students must conform to. In discussions of Charles Murray, he expresses his opinion on
the thoughts and feelings that are being transferred to students before college, claiming them to be
misleading. Murray brings to light the problem that exists in the constant pushing of guidance
counselors, teachers, and even politicians to aspire for a college degree no matter what, treating
every failure to go to college as an injustice (Murray 48). Yet, by doing so, parents and students are
often blindsided by the overwhelming cost of college that many cannot afford, or the sheer amount
of education students would put themselves through for no reason at all. Murray observes that one
aspect of this phenomenon has been labeled misaligned ambitions, meaning that adolescents have
career ambitions that are inconsistent with their educational plans (Murray 48). Convincing
students that college is the only guiding light to a better life forces students to see college as such,
an intellectual heaven where they can become anything, such as a doctor or an attorney without
understanding the educational hurdles they must surmount to achieve their goal (Murray 48 49).
They then attend a four year universitywith the depiction of college as a place where B.A.s are
handed out fresh in their minds, thoughtless as to if that particular college they are attending even
has the educational requirements needed to complete their career goals (Murray 49). Unfortunately,
as Murray reminds us, this is the system that is in place. For a brutal fact

standardized system does not allow it. By requiring that everyone follows a steady curriculum
adapted to a student s supposed capability, crowding classrooms and misplacing many students in
classes that are below their potential. Horace claims that Pigeonholing honors, regular, and
special needs students sets up the self fulfilling prophecies. Oh no, Mr. Smith, I couldn t take
AP English. I m not an honors student... This suggests that many students are not encouraged to
work up to a higher potential, for they are bunched in between several other students in same
level class as they are, limiting the teacher s ability to get to know the student and his or her
capabilities. Horace expresses this opinion with the reflection that In any event, there are too
many to absorb. May as well treat em all the same. Or accept someone else s judgment about how
swift a kid is, and go with it. Expect more, expect less. He also speaks for the teachers when he
says Compromise with your common sense: the kids are different, but we can t admit it, even to
ourselves. Horace also believes that the school s curriculum is unorganized due to the set standards,
stating that subjects are ...poorly defined and each of which is planned in almost total isolation
from the others... Students are expected to take on the skills

Changing the Culture at British Airways Essay
Changing the Culture at British Airways
Question #1
Life at old British Airways lacked a unifying corporate culture. The 1971 merger of British
European Airways (BEA) and British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC), by the British
Airways Board, only succeeded in putting an umbrella over two separate mature entities. The focus
of the BEA had been to build a European airline infrastructure. BOAS was an innovator and
pioneered the first jet passenger service. Neither company was concerned with cost or profit. British
Airways was government run and according to Jick Peiperl (2011) success had less to do with net
income and more to do with flying the British flag (p.26). This inefficient government structure was

Question #3
The critical factors in the successful transformation of British Airways were changing the

As moneylenders, they became immensely wealthy, controlling Spanish customs and extending
their power throughout Spain s overseas empire. Their influence stretched from Rome to
Budapest, from Lisbon to Danzig, from Moscow to Chile. In their banking role, they loaned
millions of ducats to kings, cardinals and the Holy Roman emperor, п¬Ѓnancing wars, propping up
popes, and underwriting new adventures putting up the money, for example, that King Carlos of

the family patriarch was Jakob Fugger II, who п¬Ѓrst emerged as a powerful п¬Ѓgure in 1505,

Modern Piracy on Ocean Voyages Essay
Are you concerned about pirate attacks on your ocean voyages? Although it may only seem like a
good movie plot, the threat of piracy still exists. Nowadays, pirate incidents are often not covered
in mainstream media. One researcher commented on the topic, saying that piracy has ...been
romanticized in such films as Disney s Pirates of the Caribbean (Lunsford, What Makes Piracy
Work? ). Nevertheless, pirates have proved their aggressive behavior through history and their
effects on society. Modern and past pirates share similarities and differences, and countries around
the world are looking for ways to control the issue before it spreads.
The term piracy means the act of robbing or behaving with illegal violence at sea ( Piracy ). ... Show

Today, piracy has resurfaced, but in smaller numbers. It is centered mainly around the Middle
East on important waterways. For instance, Somalia and the Gulf of Aden are hotspots for pirates,
because the passing cargo ships are full of supplies for African relief (May, Laura. History of Piracy
).
These new pirates are similar to their predecessors in a variety of aspects. They are split up into
two groups: those who work for themselves and others who have an alliance with a government.
The most famously known group is currently known as the Somali pirates. They attempted to
attack and capture the U.S. cargo vessel called Maersk Alabama in April 2009. However, they were
fought off, and their one hostage, the ship s skipper, was rescued five days later (Boot, Max.
Pirates, Then and Now ). Pirate techniques of stealing and escaping have not changed either. Sea
robbers continue to elude the authorities by using state and country flags to become
unrecognizable. Their ships are designed to be fast and easy to maneuver through coves and
channels. On the other hand, technological advances have made it easier for ordinary ocean
vessels to become victims of piracy. Wooden ships with shallow bottoms and cannons were
ingenious a century ago, but speedboats have become the new pirate transportation. Somali pirates
tend to have a larger, mother ship used for deep ocean assaults (May, Laura.

The United States And Soviet Union
Background
Since the end of World War II, long before the earliest events of the Heroes of Catholic Education
Series, a strange set of occurrences began to manifest itself as the United States and Soviet Union
faced each other as rivals in the subsequent Cold War. The Anomaly Phenomenon, a term denoting
the appearance of peculiar formations that defy scientific explanation, made its first appearance in
the small period of relative peace shortly after World War II, but before the Cold Warand the
formation of NATO and the Warsaw Pact. Most people are unaware of it, sometimes out of
ignorance and other times because of government agencies seeking to prevent it from creating
unnecessary civil disorder, leaving only a few people who are aware of it.
With that being said, it is absurd for one to assert that the Anomaly Phenomenon itself is being
suppressed by someone, a group, an institution or a government. In fact, there are as many potential
customers willing to purchase Anomalies for large sums of money for the purpose of scientific
research. The scope of the ones interested in purchasing them from those who harvest them are
usually academics, universities, corporations, research groups, NGOs, governments, civilian and
military researchers, and even wealthy individuals willing to add them to their collections of rare
curiosities.

definition of an Anomaly. Within the lore of the

`` The Price Of Success ``
Vince Lombardi once said, The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and
the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task
at hand. Donald Trump successfully won the 2016 election and will have four more years to
successfully carry out his term. From childhood to adulthood Trump has shown a charismatic
personality, therefore, there are plenty of insights predicting his actions during his presidency. In
Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs there are five stages. In order, the stages are: Physiological, Safety,
Love and Belongingness, Esteem, and Self Actualization. Trump flip flops between two of the
stages: Love and Belongingness, and Esteem. One of Trump s traits of the Big Five is narcissism,
which in the McAdam s (2016) article, it states that people display this trait because they lack early
life mirroring. This means that the parents failed to lovingly reflect on their child s budding
grandiosity, in return, leaving the child desperately seeking affirmation from others throughout
their lives. Love and Belongingness reflects Trump s narcissistic tendencies in this way. Trump
shows the Esteem stage with his need to be the best, be successful, and prove that he can be a
successful president. As president of the United States, Trump is trying to fulfill his Self
Actualization need with Self Transcendence by helping others and fulfill his inner potential as
president. Trump bases his actions and goals on the

Why Rollover Occur
Define rollover and discuss what stage of the fire that rollover occurs. In you description make
sure you talk about what conditions must be present for rollover to occur. Rollover is when a
fire or flame front rolls across the ceiling away from the fire. This occurs when fuel and air reach
their flammability which mostly occurs several feet away from main body of the fire. This
happens because there isn t much oxygen above the thermal column of the fire searches for air
further away and the combination with the heat, fuel, air it will create a rollover. The rollover

I Love Lucy Stereotypes
A sitcom is a situational comedy, which is when the same setting and same characters appear in
every episode. In terms of sitcoms much has changed between time and a good example of that
is, I Love Lucy and The Simpsons. I Love Lucy first premiered in 1951 and for television viewers
of the fifties; Lucy and Ricky could have been well known neighbors from down the street. Many
people are able relate to this young couple, the Ricardo s, who were experiencing the hard times
and trails of marriageas typical Americans were. They lived in a brownstone in Manhattan with
common struggles such as paying the rent and affording household materials. The humor and jokes
came along when ordinary situations were amplified as Lucy managed to get herself into trouble

The Simpsons introduces us to their main characters as stereotypes. As an example, in an
opening sequence we see Homer at work, which is what a stereotypical father s role is. We are
also shown Homer going against the stereotype because he takes radioactive waste with him
showing proof that he is incautious. Also, Marge is shown shopping and taking care of the baby
Maggie. Marge is the perfect example of a stereotypical mother, in the sense that she is playing a
role of a housewife and takes care of the house. On the other hand, Marge frequently goes against
the stereotype because she appears to be the authority figure of the family and this is what the man
of the house is supposed to do. The Simpsons show contains parody pieces of truth that are
magnified to absurdity. As you can see sitcoms today reflect reality, in other words television now
contains more pieces of truth than it did before. The problem is that most of today s sitcoms are so
busy enhancing the dysfunctional aspects of society in an attempt to be realistic that they often

Science and Technology in World Agriculture
In Science and Technology in World Agriculture: Narratives and Discourses, Pasquale Lucio
Scandizzo persuades the experts in biotechnology that the World Bank can create a balance
between conservative and radical parties. In order to reinforce his stance, Scandizzo uses various
forms of evidence: the narratives of both parties, the description the ecological problems, and the
World DevelopmentReport.
Scandizzo uses a description of the narratives of both conservative and radical parties to establish
common ground amongst readers. This evidence is important because he realizes that his readers
might come from either one of those parties. Therefore, Scandizzo creates a balance by equally
providing evidence of narratives from conservative and radical parties. Providing a balanced
narrative for both views effectively shows readers that Scandizzo values the neutral position
between two opposing views. This is important to successfully gain attention from both types of
readers to continue listening to what Scandizzo is saying. In telling the evidence of narratives from
both sides, Scandizzo is more concerned with discussing both sides achievements in increasing the
yield in agriculture. This is effective because it creates a dynamic in readers minds: Scandizzo can
first boost readers confidence about their belief and, in turn, makes readers consider the
achievements of the opposite parties, thus successfully establishing common ground. Before

The BP Oil Spill and Leadership Issues
The BP Oil Spill An Introductory Background One of the most controversial ecological disasters
in recent history focused on multinational British Petroleum and their Gulf of Mexico
Operations. The Deepwater Oil Disaster began on April 20, 2010 with an explosion on the
Deepwater Horizon Oil platform, killing 11, injuring 17. It was not until July 15th, however,
that the leak was stopped by capping the wellhead, after releasing almost 5 million barrels (206
million gallons) of crude oil, or 53,000 barrels per day into the Gulf of Mexico. It was not until
September 19th that the relief well process was complete and the U.S. Government, EPA, and
Coast Guard agencies declared the well breach effectively stopped (Cavnar, 2010). The damage
caused by the spill is almost immeasurable; ecological, political, economic, social it almost
devastated the U.S. Gulf Coast fishing and tourism industries. Even in January 2011 a report
was made by oil spill experts from the University of Georgia stating that tar balls continue to
wash up on beaches, collect in shrimp nets, kill marsh grass, and even undegraded oil in the
seabed (Dykes, 2011). It will likely be years, if not decades, before the final assessment of
damage, short term and long term, is accurately noted from this disaster. Part 1 Ethical Dilemmas

The Replacement Of Wires Of A Prototype Body Area Network...
Abstract
This paper evaluates the replacement of wires in a prototype body area network of wireless
sensors. Sensor nodes which act as slave nodes are used to sense vital human parameters such as
Electro Cardio Graphic (ECG), blood pressure, oxygen saturation SpO2, heart rate, and body
temperature [1]. Keeping the normal human body parameters as median values against the
variations in the Lower and Higher levels towards the maximum abnormal conditions are tabulated
for further analysis. A stochastic model has been developed with threshold human values against
the variation of parameters in both directions. An algorithm is developed to identify the
abnormalities in the human values which leads to disease diagnosis. The identified values are
converted into the relevant binary format, and this binary format of human values sent to the
hospital server for doctoral assessment through General Packet Radio Service (GPRS), by using of
Microcontroler Unit or Master Node. In the identification process, If the master node identifies any
one above mentioned human parameter values have been exceeded the threshold value, then it
sends the alert message to the human care person through Short Message Service (SMS), all
communication encrypted with Festiel Cipher Structure.

In the contemporary gadgeted era, human patients are continuously monitored during their stay in

Unfortunately we still had tension among players. It even got as far as one player taking the ball

Ethics Of Cloning Research Paper
Mankind is powerful; perhaps more knowledgeable and omnipotent than any other creature on
Earth. Cloning demonstrates a fine example of how mankind is disregarding all barriers of science.
Cloning, as defined by Human Cloning Ethical Issues is the creation of a creature using genetic
material of another creature . It comes with numerous benefits; consequently, with severe
consequences. The practice of cloningdefies the natural processes surrounding the inception of life,

Most Powerful Weapon Ever Created By Austin Perkins
Austin Perkins Ever since man has come into existence we have killed with rocks, spears, clubs,
knifes, swords, arrows, cannons, guns and, unfortunately, bombs. In 2077 man unleashed the full
force of the most powerful weapon ever created, a hydrogen bomb nicknamed the Tsar Bomba, a
hydrogen bomb with 50 megatons of explosive power. 1 megaton is equal to a million tons of
TNT; the Little Boythat was dropped on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945 was only a mere .02. The
fallout of such a weapon nearly destroyed the world we lived in, but didn t end it. In the
beginning, thousands were able to survive by relocating to underground shelters called vaults.
When they finally came out, there was nothing but the apocalyptic wastes for them to see.
Buildings were demolished, the landscape was scorched, the water was undrinkable, and the
creatures were unholy. When Hell s gates opened there was one vault, however, that kept its
gates closed. Vault 101 kept its giant metal door closed and never let anyone in or out. Inside
were the inhabitants who were all looked over by an Overseer, who could be a mayor in some
vaults or a god in others. They control everything in the vaults from what foods you eat to what
you will do in the future. Everyone knows each other in a vault and everyone has a role to play,
whether that role is a doctor or a tattoo artist. The one thing they all have in common is that they
were born in the vault, lived in the vault, and eventually will die in the vault. That

First World War Convergence Analysis
According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, convergence is defined as independent
development of similar characters often associated with similarity of habits or environment, (
Convergence ). World War I is a worthy example to discuss the idea of an event forming similar
experiences in a variety of characters. Meaning, two ethnically dissimilar people raised in different
environments, could have a convergence of experiences due to fighting in the same war; while two
neighbors might diverge in all ways but their nationality. An investigation could be made into how
the soldiers experiences during the war might converge more with soldiers of other nations than
with the citizens of the soldiers homeland. This historical essay will work to... Show more content

And although, the physical issues of the common citizens of Germany and India diverged
essentially, the soldiers who fought for these nations obtained many parallel physical issues due
to the nature of the war. In letter 138 of Omissi collection, Rajwali Khan wrote from the
Kitchener s Indian Hospital to Ghulam Hussain: There is nothing but my corpse left. They have
cut off the whole of one leg and one hand too is useless... There is nothing left of me. (Omissi
98). This can be correlated to when Kemmerich lost his foot, due to war sustained injuries and
thus later became nothing but a corpse when he died (Remarque 14). The comparison of limbs
lost in both the letters and the novel is a convergence between the two groups of soldiers.
Another physical issue that both the Indian and German soldiers experienced was the lack of
food, and accordingly, the constant state of hunger. In the novel, Paul remarked with us food is
pretty scarce and none of it too good at that, (Remarque 189). This quotation had Paul
commenting on how the food was unpalatable and limited, and there was not even enough food
to feed them all. The Indian soldiers also referenced the lack of food, like how in letter 221
Shambo discussed how the home front was blessed because they get a bellyful of food, while
the soldiers are starving on the battlefield (Omissi 140). This is because in the theater of war as
Paul acknowledged everything gets eaten, notwithstanding, and if ever anyone is so well off as
not to want all of his share, there is a dozen others standing by ready to relieve him of it,
(Remarque 189). Basically, there were always people who end up with no food, no matter how
much the soldiers conserved, or shared their food. So, the lack of food for both the German and
Indian soldiers is another physical aspect that converged between the diverse group of soldiers.

Digital Film Technology Revolutionizes the Film Industry...
Digital Film Technology Revolutionizes the Film Industry
With the release of Star Wars: Episode I the Phantom Menace, in March of 1999, digital film
technology officially filtered itself in to main stream Hollywood. Digital film technology is the
latest and probably most revolutionizing new technology to hit Hollywood. The use of digital film
allows for infinite editing capabilities and endless benefits to distribution and special effects. The
use of digital film allows for producers to add in extras, produce stunts, and even create false
people with the click of a mouse. Time and cost consuming stunts, stunt doubles, and actors may no
longer be a worthy concern to producers and their budgets. Though the growing ... Show more

Directors and producers are allowed to let their imaginations run wild. This ease of use attracts
filmmakers to convert to a digital format. The skill and cost of technology which goes into creating
these effects, in return creates jobs for others.
Digital film not only enhances effects, but its special effects capabilities are so great, that it is
also beginning to replace people. For example, in Titanic, released in the winter of 1997/1998,
false people are created to enhance the reality and excitement of the scene. The movie shows a
scene which the ship tilts completely vertical. Passengers of the ship slide into the water, and fall
from the rails of the enormous ship. These passengers add drama and reality to the scene. The
passengers vividly dictate the harshness of the situation. Though these unfortunate passengers add a
wealth of reality to the scene, they are not even real people. Creating this scene on a standard film
format with stunt doubles, would have been difficult and time consuming. They were instead
created with digital film technology. Digital film technology erased the need for stunt doubles.
Though real people were not employed to be these characters, jobs behind the scenes were instead
utilized. Creators of the digital passengers were employed directly, and indirectly, business and jobs
were harvested from the digital equipment used. Even though physical people were

The greatest icon of martial arts cinema, and a key figure of modern popular culture. Had it not

the lead role in _Tang sha da xiong (1971)_ ( aka Fists of Fury , aka The Big Boss ). The film

for cast and crew. However when it opened in Hong Kong, the film was an enormous hit! Young
Chinese flocked in their thousands to see this ground breaking film starring a tough, athletic
Chinese hero who dispensed justice with his fists and feet. Chow knew he had struck box office
gold with Lee, and quickly assembled another script entitled Jing wu men (1972) (aka The

again directed by Wei Lo and was set in Shanghai in the year 1900, with Lee returning to his
school to find his beloved master has been poisoned by the local Japanese karate school. Once
again, he uncovered the evil doers and set about seeking revenge on those responsible for
murdering his teacher. The film featured several superb fight sequences, and at the film s
conclusion, Lee refuses to surrender to the Japanese law and seemingly leaps to his death in a

Chinese movie fans who could not get enough of the fearless Bruce Lee, and his second film went

How did the October Crisis of 1970 affect Canada? Did Canada do the right things during this

also a significant event that affected the country positively and negatively. It impacted Canada s

major terrorist attack on Canadian soil and this caused the only use of the War Measures Act

Canada had not faced this in the past that often, there was normally little to no terrorist attacks.
The October Crisis was not only dangerous for people involved with the government but it was
slowly becoming more dangerous for the civilians, there were many that disliked what the
terrorists had to say but there were others who agreed and decided that this was the right time to
stand with the terrorists and their opinions. According to CBC History, On October 15, three
thousand people gathered at Paul SauvГ© Arena to show support for the FLQ s separatist ideas.
The FLQ s lawyer, Robert Lemieux, fired them up. (CBC 13) This had made a divide between the
civilians creating more pressure on both the government and the terrorists to do something.
Because Canada had this terrorist attack happen it opened up not only the government s eyes but
the civilians eyes and made them realize that terrorism was not such a foreign thing and that it is a
possible thing to happen in countries like Canada. This realization caused some people to flee
Quebec in search for a more calm province. This also pressured Quebec to make the decision in

Sickle Cell Trait
Sickle Cell Trait (SCT) and Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) can be a serious problem for some people,
but at the same time, it can also be very beneficial to some people. Having SCT, means that you
do not have the disease, but are a carrier for the trait. People who have SCT are usually
unaffected and live normal lives. On the other hand, people who actually have SCD, can end up
dying for having it, and are forced to live irregular, difficult lives.
Sickle Cell Disease can be inherited from your parents. If both of the parents are carriers for Sickle

With malaria not affecting the people with SCD/SCT, they are able to keep reproducing and

such a high amount of people with SCD/SCT. In conclusion, sickle cell disease and sickle cell

with having one of the two. People with sickle cell disease have hard lives, and have trouble
doing everyday things like participating in a gym class, or doing any type of sports or physical

The Problem Of Police Harassment Essay
Well, the numbers do lie, according to Michael A. Wood Jr., a former Baltimore narcotics cop
with 11 years of experience. He has become a whistleblower for reforming police misconduct and
he ll be one of the first to tell you that stop and frisk statistics are junk. The reality of police
harassment is much worse and he points out the obvious that filling out paperwork is time
consuming and most cops don t bother if a search is unsuccessful. This can be seen with the frisk
that was recorded for The Nation. Wood says, The black community hasn t been lying (about
harassment) for the last fifty years. We need to fix it in a realistic, scientific way to where we have
some empathy and treat people like human beings. Because we don t.
In cases where police have been caught fabricating evidence, it again seemingly most often
victimizes minorities. For instance, the former police chief of San Jose and Kansas City, Joseph
McNamara, estimated that hundreds of thousands of police officers commit perjury with drug
arrests. He said, They don t feel lying under oath is wrong because politicians tell them they are
engaged in a holy war fighting evil...(T)hese mostly white cops are testifying against are poor
blacks and Latinos.
Two brothers, Jose and Maximo Colon, were awarded $300,000 after a settlement from a civil suit
with the NYPD. Video evidence proved that NYPD narcotics detectives had falsely arrested them
for selling cocaine. One of the officers involved, Stephen

Currently, the automotive industry within the United States is going through major changes and an

due to ever increasing fuel costs is the driving factor for these changes of dynamics in production.
The continually rising fuel costs are not the only driving force in the changes of demand by the
American people. People are also much more environmentally friendly which has recently been a
steering force for American consumers away from the traditionally owned pick up trucks and sport
utility vehicles. American manufacturers have also been able to improve the market and its
structure through technology such as electric cars and hybrid technology, which are proving to be
factors in the changing and evolution of the automotive industry landscape (Wayland, 2013).

Compare And Contrast Love At First Sight In Romeo And Juliet
Many people might or might not believe in love at first sight, but the way shakespeare sees love
or romance is as a drama that ends with a happy ending. Everybody falls in love different ways,
but falling in love at first sight is rare nowadays. Many people fall in love at first sight because of
their looks, but after they start talking to them they might change their minds they might not.
Shakespeare likes to put the idea about loveat first sight in his plays. When
Romeo and Juliet first met each other at the party and fell in love instantly. The instant he saw
Juliet he totally forgot about Rosaline. Romeo said this after he saw Juliet, Did my heart love till
now? Forswear it, sight! For I ne er saw true beauty till this night. Also Juliet is very in love with

dear Romeo, and good night indeed. If that thy bent of love be honorable,Thy purpose marriage,

Satire In Benjamin Franklin
Satire is the strongest tool of revealing the truth. But it becomes sharper in the hands of very clever
people or genius such as Benjamin Franklin. Taking into consideration literature analysis, satire is a
very strong and sharp display of comic art, which is based on a humiliating rebuke of poetic
phenomena using different comic funds such as irony, sarcasm. Satireis both a literary genre and a
particular technique that ridicules or condemns individuals or society for having a lower standard
of values, attitudes, and behavior. The satirist exposes popular views in order to bring about
intellectual or social reform (Rasenber).

Rules was scarcely new. Franklin had, in more sober fashion, made almost every point before. He
touched hardly at all upon the constitutional issues that the Bostonians had set boiling, no doubt
because they were difficult to treat satirically; but he marshaled most of the other themes that
were his stock in trade as a controversialist. Some related to the colonies in general, some to
Massachusetts in particular, and they ran the gamut from old trade restrictions and novel taxes to
the oppression wrought by the army and navy; the result was, as he said, comprehensive. These
themes were so familiar from long reiteration that in their usual form they might well have evoked
no more than a shrug from the British public. By recasting them in the out of the way form of
satire he gave them a new bite (Willcox,

Grow Temperature Research Paper
Discussion
This study depicted that common wombat burrows provide a constant temperature 1 2m from the
entrance within four different habitats open field, forested, short ground cover and sandy bank
during both summer and autumn. However, noticeable differences in the temperatures between the
seasons were observed. Although, this was expected as the insulating properties of the soil stop
daily, but not seasonal, fluctuations in temperature from a depth of approximately 0.30cm
(Reichman Smith 1990), with the main factors that did influence burrow temperatures being time
of day, elevation during summer and aspect during autumn. There are few studies in the literature
that display the influences of elevation and aspect on burrow temperatures so these may present
novel findings that might impact burrow location or use. The general outcome that burrow
temperatures remain constant while temperatures outside the burrow fluctuate, however, is

to be regarded as an appropriate mechanism of thermal tolerance. The influence temperature has on
wombat behaviour cannot be fully addressed due to the declining wombat population at the study

On day, as she was walking to school, a strange vehicle pulled up beside her. Sensing something was wrong, the child began to move away from the suspicious van, but before she could get away she felt a rush of electricity through her body; she was shot by a stun gun. Unable to resist, Jaycee was dragged into the car, covered with a blanket, and driven to her kidnapper s hidden backyard where she would be held captive for eighteen years. At the end of each entry she would draw heart shaped balloons and look at the moon, hoping her mother could feel her love and sense that she was still out there somewhere. There were many times where Jaycee and her girls were openly walking around the main house next to Philip s parole officers. Too afraid to speak up, Dugard silently hoped they would recognize her and free her from the prison that she was in, but any questions that they had Philip would answer and they didn t probe him further. This led Dugard to develop a mistrust with law enforcement that she is still battling to get over, because of the eighteen miserable birthdays she spent with two criminals and her children in a hidden backyard. Once Phillip trusted Jaycee to keep quiet, she was allowed to go in public for the first time in over ten years. She begged with her eyes for someone to ask her if she was the girl that had been missing for so long, but no one did. That was, until a female cop s motherly instincts told her something was up with Jaycee and her daughter s behavior around the Garridos. Although she couldn t legally arrest him, she called his parole officer after doing a background check and digging up his offense as a pedophile. He was then arrested at his home and Jaycee and her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It mostly refers to a combination of salary, bonuses, shares of or call options on the company stock, benefits, and privileges, usually constructed to take into account government regulations, tax law, the desires of the organization and the executive, and rewards for performance. The public is presented with thin, tall, muscular, and perfectly fit people in the media such as magazines or television shows, making people with a more natural body image feel insecure and unpleased with their body type. The media is promoting body stereotypes and it is negatively affecting the public. The media displays the average man as being hairless and very well built which may negatively affect the male population. Body stereotyping in the media can lead to body dysmorphia. Body dysmorphia is common among the younger generation because they are more adept at using social media. The media displays the average man as being hairless and very well built which may negatively affect the male population. I will discuss the political ideas of Niccolo Machiavelli, Francesco Guicciardini, and Thomas Hobbes during the time of Florence Republic. First, Niccolo Machiavelli was born in Florence, Italy in 1469 at a time when the country was in political upheaval. Italy was divided between four dominant city states, by which each of them was always at the mercy of the continual changing of princes and governments. He established a government, which lasted for over eight hundred years. Florence needs to replicate the ideologies of Rome in order to become as powerful and great. Machiavelli wants Florence to adopt these patterns so that ultimately Florence will have the same success as Rome. In short, I think Machiavelli is emphasizing the importance of decisive action and courage. He uses bold writings to encourage men, so that they will build a safe and stable world for people. • 19. Summary Of Too Many People Are Going To College The standard way of thinking about college has often given the impression that education will open doors. College is foretold to be the wisest choice a student can make to better their future with a successful, high paying job. Yet Charles Murray, author of the article Too Many People Are Going To College, introduces a controversial side to the argument, believing that the decision for students to attend college is one of great importance, but the choice may be made too soon. Murray emphasizes the reasons why this situation exists and continues to be proven true in today s society with factors such as the misleading statements to students about college and the high academic standards students must conform to. In discussions of Charles Murray, he expresses his opinion on the thoughts and feelings that are being transferred to students before college, claiming them to be misleading. Murray brings to light the problem that exists in the constant pushing of guidance counselors, teachers, and even politicians to aspire for a college degree no matter what, treating every failure to go to college as an injustice (Murray 48). Yet, by doing so, parents and students are often blindsided by the overwhelming cost of college that many cannot afford, or the sheer amount of education students would put themselves through for no reason at all. Murray observes that one aspect of this phenomenon has been labeled misaligned ambitions, meaning that adolescents have career ambitions that are inconsistent with their educational plans (Murray 48). Convincing students that college is the only guiding light to a better life forces students to see college as such, an intellectual heaven where they can become anything, such as a doctor or an attorney without understanding the educational hurdles they must surmount to achieve their goal (Murray 48 49). They then attend a four year universitywith the depiction of college as a place where B.A.s are handed out fresh in their minds, thoughtless as to if that particular college they are attending even has the educational requirements needed to complete their career goals (Murray 49). These new pirates are similar to their predecessors in a variety of aspects. They are split up into two groups: those who work for themselves and others who have an alliance with a government. The most famously known group is currently known as the Somali pirates. They attempted to attack and capture the U.S. cargo vessel called Maersk Alabama in April 2009. In terms of sitcoms much has changed between time and a good example of that is, I Love Lucy and The Simpsons. I Love Lucy first premiered in 1951 and for television viewers of the fifties; Lucy and Ricky could have been well known neighbors from down the street. Many people are able relate to this young couple, the Ricardo s, who were experiencing the hard times and trails of marriageas typical Americans were. The Simpsons introduces us to their main characters as stereotypes. As an example, in an opening sequence we see Homer at work, which is what a stereotypical father s role is. We are also shown Homer going against the stereotype because he takes radioactive waste with him showing proof that he is incautious. Also, Marge is shown shopping and taking care of the baby Maggie. Marge is the perfect example of a stereotypical mother, in the sense that she is playing a role of a housewife and takes care of the house. On the other hand, Marge frequently goes against the stereotype because she appears to be the authority figure of the family and this is what the man of the house is supposed to do. The Simpsons show contains parody pieces of truth that are magnified to absurdity. As you can see sitcoms today reflect reality, in other words television now contains more pieces of truth than it did before. In order to reinforce his stance, Scandizzo uses various forms of evidence: the narratives of both parties, the description the ecological problems, and the World DevelopmentReport. Scandizzo uses a description of the narratives of both conservative and radical parties to establish common ground amongst readers. This evidence is important because he realizes that his readers might come from either one of those parties. Therefore, Scandizzo creates a balance by equally providing evidence of narratives from conservative and radical parties. Providing a balanced narrative for both views effectively shows readers that Scandizzo values the neutral position between two opposing views. This is important to successfully gain attention from both types of readers to continue listening to what Scandizzo is saying. In telling the evidence of narratives from both sides, Scandizzo is more concerned with discussing both sides achievements in increasing the yield in agriculture. This is effective because it creates a dynamic in readers minds: Scandizzo can first boost readers confidence about their belief and, in turn, makes readers consider the achievements of the opposite parties, thus successfully establishing common ground. The BP Oil Spill and Leadership Issues The BP Oil Spill An Introductory Background One of the most controversial ecological disasters in recent history focused on multinational British Petroleum and their Gulf of Mexico Operations. The Deepwater Oil Disaster began on April 20, 2010 with an explosion on the Deepwater Horizon Oil platform, killing 11, injuring 17. It was not until July 15th, however, that the leak was stopped by capping the wellhead, after releasing almost 5 million barrels (206 million gallons) of crude oil, or 53,000 barrels per day into the Gulf of Mexico. It was not until September 19th that the relief well process was complete and the U.S. Government, EPA, and Coast Guard agencies declared the well breach effectively stopped (Cavnar, 2010). The damage caused by the spill is almost immeasurable; ecological, political, economic, social it almost devastated the U.S. Gulf Coast fishing and tourism industries. Even in January 2011 a report was made by oil spill experts from the University of Georgia stating that tar balls continue to wash up on beaches, collect in shrimp nets, kill marsh grass, and even undegraded oil in the seabed (Dykes, 2011). It will likely be years, if not decades, before the final assessment of damage, short term and long term, is accurately noted from this disaster. Sensor nodes which act as slave nodes are used to sense vital human parameters such as Electro Cardio Graphic (ECG), blood pressure, oxygen saturation SpO2, heart rate, and body temperature [1]. Keeping the normal human body parameters as median values against the variations in the Lower and Higher levels towards the maximum abnormal conditions are tabulated for further analysis. A stochastic model has been developed with threshold human values against the variation of parameters in both directions. An algorithm is developed to identify the abnormalities in the human values which leads to disease diagnosis. The identified values are converted into the relevant binary format, and this binary format of human values sent to the hospital server for doctoral assessment through General Packet Radio Service (GPRS), by using of Microcontroler Unit or Master Node. In the identification process, If the master node identifies any one above mentioned human parameter values have been exceeded the threshold value, then it sends the alert message to the human care person through Short Message Service (SMS), all communication encrypted with Festiel Cipher Structure. They have cut off the whole of one leg and one hand too is useless... There is nothing left of me. (Omissi 98). This can be correlated to when Kemmerich lost his foot, due to war sustained injuries and thus later became nothing but a corpse when he died (Remarque 14). The comparison of limbs lost in both the letters and the novel is a convergence between the two groups of soldiers. Another physical issue that both the Indian and German soldiers experienced was the lack of food, and accordingly, the constant state of hunger. In the novel, Paul remarked with us food is pretty scarce and none of it too good at that, (Remarque 189). This quotation had Paul commenting on how the food was unpalatable and limited, and there was not even enough food to feed them all. The Indian soldiers also referenced the lack of food, like how in letter 221 Shambo discussed how the home front was blessed because they get a bellyful of food, while the soldiers are starving on the battlefield (Omissi 140). This is because in the theater of war as Paul acknowledged everything gets eaten, notwithstanding, and if ever anyone is so well off as not to want all of his share, there is a dozen others standing by ready to relieve him of it, (Remarque 189). Basically, there were always people who end up with no food, no matter how much the soldiers conserved, or shared their food. • 51. Compare And Contrast Love At First Sight In Romeo And Juliet Many people might or might not believe in love at first sight, but the way shakespeare sees love or romance is as a drama that ends with a happy ending. Everybody falls in love different ways, but falling in love at first sight is rare nowadays. Many people fall in love at first sight because of their looks, but after they start talking to them they might change their minds they might not. Shakespeare likes to put the idea about loveat first sight in his plays. When Romeo and Juliet first met each other at the party and fell in love instantly. The instant he saw Juliet he totally forgot about Rosaline. Romeo said this after he saw Juliet, Did my heart love till now? Forswear it, sight! For I ne er saw true beauty till this night. • 52. Satire In Benjamin Franklin Satire is the strongest tool of revealing the truth. But it becomes sharper in the hands of very clever people or genius such as Benjamin Franklin. Taking into consideration literature analysis, satire is a very strong and sharp display of comic art, which is based on a humiliating rebuke of poetic phenomena using different comic funds such as irony, sarcasm. Satireis both a literary genre and a particular technique that ridicules or condemns individuals or society for having a lower standard of values, attitudes, and behavior. The satirist exposes popular views in order to bring about intellectual or social reform (Rasenber). And again his talent and knowledge helped him to achieve this aim. The substance behind the Rules was scarcely new. Franklin had, in more sober fashion, made almost every point before. He touched hardly at all upon the constitutional issues that the Bostonians had set boiling, no doubt because they were difficult to treat satirically; but he marshaled most of the other themes that were his stock in trade as a controversialist. Some related to the colonies in general, some to Massachusetts in particular, and they ran the gamut from old trade restrictions and novel taxes to the oppression wrought by the army and navy; the result was, as he said, comprehensive. These themes were so familiar from long reiteration that in their usual form they might well have evoked no more than a shrug from the British public. By recasting them in the out of the way form of satire he gave them a new bite (Willcox, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Grow Temperature Research Paper Discussion This study depicted that common wombat burrows provide a constant temperature 1 2m from the entrance within four different habitats open field, forested, short ground cover and sandy bank during both summer and autumn. However, noticeable differences in the temperatures between the seasons were observed. Although, this was expected as the insulating properties of the soil stop daily, but not seasonal, fluctuations in temperature from a depth of approximately 0.30cm (Reichman Smith 1990), with the main factors that did influence burrow temperatures being time of day, elevation during summer and aspect during autumn. There are few studies in the literature that display the influences of elevation and aspect on burrow temperatures so these may present novel findings that might impact burrow location or use. The general outcome that burrow temperatures remain constant while temperatures outside the burrow fluctuate, however, is supported in many studies of different species. Shimmin et al ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These stable temperatures within the burrow coincide with many previous studies conducted on other burrowing animals, with all studies agreeing that the temperatures are constant daily but have a gradual seasonal change. This presents strong evidence that burrows maintain a consistent microhabitat that is effective in providing shelter from weather extremes, thereby allowing burrows to be regarded as an appropriate mechanism of thermal tolerance. The influence temperature has on wombat behaviour cannot be fully addressed due to the declining wombat population at the study site, however, it may be attributed to the small ambient temperature ranges that were experienced not having a significant impact on wombat presence in this ...
