ABSTRACT
Energy supply for economic activities has been a major problem in Nigeria such that it does appear that solution
to stable, reliable power supply is not yet in sight. Consequently, consumers (industrial, residential and
commercial) have all resorted to self-generation to complement whatever supply (if any) that comes from the very
unreliable national grid. For instance, the available power supply to the entire nation fluctuates between 3000MW
and 3500MW. A study of monthly energy generation in Dangote Cement Plant for a typical year was carried out.
This was compared with the equivalent monthly generation from the entire Nigeria’s grid system. The results
show that in 2013, at the early stage of commencement of production of operation in the plant), the total energy
generated by the Dangote Power Plant was 406762.33 MWH while the total energy consumed by the company
was 401903.72 MWh. Dangote’s total energy generation in 2013 represents 1.4% of Nigeria’s total generation
from grid in the same year. The total distribution loss was 4858.61 MWH (which is 1.2% of the total energy
generated by the company).Comparatively, the total generation from national grid in 2013 was 29628699. This
study further shows that Dangote Cement, Ibese produces enough energy for its use and could even sell any excess
if encouraged.
Presently, there is rapid growth in Technology advancement. Developed countries are searching for new alternative energy sources to minimize the pressure on natural sources like gas, uranium, oil, coal, etc. However, natural sources of energy are inadequate and expensive, which also contributed heavily to greenhouse gas emissions. Developing countries like Nigeria are also trying to exploit different renewable energy sources like solar energy, hydropower, wind energy, bioenergy, etc. to accomplish their increasing demand and also to eradicate the energy crisis Nigeria has been experiencing due to insufficient electricity generation. This paper analyses the importance of renewable sources, the challenges and the benefits. This paper also analyses how renewable energy can be accepted as a perfect solution for economic development.

Study of Renewable Energy Sources in India - A ReviewIRJEETJournal
Energy is at the heart of most critical economic, environmental and developmental issues facing the world today. Clean, efficient, affordable and reliable energy services are indispensable for global prosperity. India with a population of 1.2 billion people, is one of the largest and fastest growing economies in the world. There is always a very strong demand for energy, which currently comes mainly from coal, oil and other sources which are non-renewable. Also, the consumption of these energies is harmful for the environment.
This means that “India has to switch from non-renewable energy (oil and coal) to renewable energy or find some alternative options for energy sources”. The Indian government has already taken several steps and launched various agencies and platforms to achieve its goal of becoming one of the world's leading producers of clean energy. Renewable energy is the energy of a resource that can be replaced by existing energy sources such as solar, wind, water, biological processes and geothermal heat fluxes. These energy resources can be used directly or indirectly as forms of energy. In this paper we will discuss the potential areas and technological opportunities in this direction in the context of India.

The scarce electricity supply in Nigeria is a key factor to the low industrial development in a country well-known for having the least electrification in Africa per capita. Presently, Nigeria employs four different kinds of energy such as coal, natural gas, hydro, and oil. Three of the four resources mentioned above used for the production of energy in Nigeria is connected with increasing emissions of greenhouse gas: natural gas, oil, and coal, with coal releasing the worst. This paper presents a model and analysis of PV/Wind/Diesel hybrid system for rural electrification in Kaduna state, northern Nigeria. HOMER (Hybrid Optimization Model for Electric Renewable) software tool was used for optimization and modeling of this work. Simulation results show that the PV/Wind/Diesel system with Battery storage is the most cost-effective system since it recorded considerable cost of energy and reduces CO2 emissions significantly.
The mammoth energy requirements of India coupled with the strong push being provided by the government to renewable sources of energy makes this sector a lucrative business prospect. This presentation details the overview of the renewable energy sector in India as well as Gujarat and highlights the business opportunities available within the sector.
The presentation describes the complete energy scenario of World and India as of 2020. It also describes the prime energy sources that the entire world depends on.

The Application of Homer Optimization Software to Investigate the Prospects o...IJECEIAES
This paper investigates the prospects and cost-effectiveness of implementation of standalone PV/wind system in sokoto state Nigeria. Daily electricity demand, yearly solar radiation and wind speed were applied to determine the optimum sizing of the renewable energy (RE) system. To design optimum RE with proper sizing of system components, meteorological data obtained from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration were applied as input for this study. In Nigeria, sokoto is a region with solar radiation of 6kWh/m 2 /day and wind speed of 5m/s at 10m above height. Using the Homer optimization software, the optimum integrated RE system is 35.21kW PV, 3 x 25kW wind turbines, 12 x 24V lead acid battery and 17.44kW converter. The system has a total capital cost of $249910.24, the replacement cost of $82914.85 and maintenance cost of $53802.80 for 25 years. Though the initial capital cost is high but the long term benefits are enormous, considering the high cost of implementing rural electrification scheme, coupled with ahike in electricity tariff. There is also a payback period of 5 years. The results imply a standalone PV/wind system is feasible in rural communities of sokoto with 100% pollution free energy system.
Analysis of grid connected independent power plant capabilities on electricit...Najeem Olawale Adelakun
At the core of any meaningful economic activity is electric power. Absence or inadequacy of it in a nation
stalls development in that nation. In Nigeria, there is a wide gap between forecast power and actual
power generation needed for productive endeavours. For instance in July 2017, the generation peak load
forecast was 14190MW while the actual generation peak load was 4567MW. In July 2018 it was again
14190MW (forecast) but 5110MW (actual). This paper uses descriptive statistics to analyse Independent
Power Plant (IPP) capabilities spread across ten years (2009-2018). The results show that there is need
to encourage more private investors to build additional IPPs in order to increase adequate power
generation in Nigeria – especially in post-COVID-19 socio-economic crisis. Consequently, it is expected
that the wide gap between generation peak load peak load forecast and actual peak load would be
narrowed.

One of the most important resources of a nation is energy. The significance of
energy definitely cannot be overemphasized as it is immensely utilized in our everyday
activities as a very germane requirement for survival and robust lifestyle. The amount
of energy availability and its usage in a country measures the level of
industrialization. Several devices including machines, electronics, household
electrical appliances and other domestic equipment and machines, industrial
production and processing machines, streetlights for lighting, our vehicles all require
energy in various form be it solar, hydro-electric, biogas, gasoline, diesel and the
likes to function properly to optimum capacity. However, owing to the stupendous
hike in fuel price, increase in electricity charges and the desire to limit the use of
fossil fuels and reduce carbon emissions, there have been several human efforts on the
pursuit for alternate means of power. This study is aimed at analyzing the range of
renewable energy potentials in Nigeria, and how they can ultimately be used for
national development.
HARNESSING THE GEOTHERMAL PROPERTIES OF IKOGOSI WARM SPRING FOR POWER GENERAT...IAEME Publication
This research explored the thermal property of a warm spring in Nigeria as a
potential source of thermal electricity generation. Ikogosi warm spring is located in
Ekiti State, Nigeria. The spring consists of cool and warm water flowing at a very
close proximity while each maintains its thermal property. For a long time ago, the
water from the spring has been used as therapeutic cure of some diseases such as
rheumatism and guinea-worm in addition to its tourism while other people used the
water as battery electrolyte. This research however harnessed the thermal property of
the spring for power generation to show the huge potential it holds in terms of energy
generation. The temperature of water samples collected randomly from the spring at
different points was measured with thermometer. The thermoelectric voltage was
measured with Seebeck thermoelectricity experiment using copper and platinum as
conductors. The temperature measurement of the warm spring shows the highest and
lowest values of 345.1 and 342.6 K respectively. On the other hand, the temperature of
the cool spring varied between 309.8 to 309.9 K along the spring. The minimum and
maximum value of the thermoelectric voltage is 1.31 and 1.41 mV respectively.
Having identified energy problem as one of the constraints to economic development
in Nigeria, then study of this nature will not only save the country from irregular
supply of electricity but will also boost the tourism potential of the area while small
and medium scale business enterprises of the country will be promoted.

In several developing countries, the electricity crisis obstructs both socioeconomic and technological sustainable evolution. Also, it leads to reducing job availability due to shut down several industries or relocate to neighbouring countries to such an issue. A Najaf City is an important holy and tourist city in the middle of Iraq country. Indeed, waste management in An Najaf City needs to be reconsidered to be used as an energy source. In this article, we investigated and listed the waste quantity which produced recently (one year) respect to waste types and types of content. Data collected from the waste products for one year and are used as a key factor to study the feasibility of generating electrical energy from collected MSWs. The proposed model was simulated and tested respect to cost analysis factor of the suggested power plant by Homer pro simulation software. Results were very encouraging and competitive to the current energy production cost based on the production cost of the Kwh prospective among the conventional methods in Iraq. The proposed scenario provide proper and secure waste proposal technique with low-cost.
Sustainable Infrastructural Development in Africa: The Build Operate and Tran...AJHSSR Journal
The build, operate and transfer (BOT) investment model can be advantageously adopted in Nigeria in
ensuring the rehabilitation of the decaying and obsolete electricity infrastructure in the country as low electricity
generation and consumption has serious negative implications on both the households and economic activities in
the economy. Thus, the objective of the paper is to interrogate the existing electricity infrastructure in Nigeria
and advocate for a form of private investment model. Using qualitative method and documentary evidence
predicted on the public-private partnership model, the study found that electricity infrastructure in Nigeria is
obsolete and inadequate. Power generation in Nigeria compared to other leading economies in Africa is
abysmally low due to lack of adequate investment in the sector. The BOT investment model has been used
successfully to build and maintain cost-intensive infrastructures like the power plants, highways, railways,
airports, etc in both developed and developing countries of the world; as seen in China, India, Pakistan,
Philippine, South Africa, Ghana, etc. Thus, the paper submits that the BOT alternative should be adopted to
address the power sector menace in the country.

The Internet has become one of the greatest inventions of mankind for learning and sharing of useful information through electronic means. For some years now, the developed nations have adopted the use of the e-learning system. Presently, the COVID-19 outbreak has given rise to the adoption of the e-learning system by many countries of the world being the most viable alternative for teaching and learning. This paper uses a pragmatic approach to evaluates the benefits and challenges associated with the e-learning system. A survey was conducted among students in a higher institution and a total of one hundred and twenty-five responses was gathered from the online questionnaire to know the likely challenges faced by students with the e-learning system and also at an online researchers’ forum. The result shows that 30.40% of students complained about weak internet connectivity from the questionnaire administered which is also the major problem in most developing nations, and for optimal performance of the e-learning system, there should be adequate provision for strong internet connectivity, standard IT infrastructure, and user-friendly e-learning platform.
Wastage of water has been a
common phenomenon in several public locations
such as event centre, restaurants, malls, mosque,
churches, and also at home due to negligence of tap
user or due to sophisticated tap used that visitors
may not know how to operate, to curb wastage and
prevention of damage to the wash hand basin. A
solar-powered automatic wash hand basin system
was developed to cater for any challenges that may
arise. The solar-powered automatic wash hand
basin systemis a sensor-based system with constant
a supply of electricity that starts automatically
whenever anyone put his/her hand just below the
water tap outlet, which significantly reduces water
consumption to some extent and can as well
eliminate cross-contamination by keeping hands
and germs away from commonly-used surfaces
especially during this COVID-19 pandemic.This
system can help in automating the work of human
beings with great ease and without any difficulty
which will make the tap to last longer, reduce water
usage, and also guide against any form of germs or
diseases from cross-contamination.

The need for clean and stable electricity has given rise to renewable energy globally. Currently, Wind Energy generation is one the leading renewable energy sources and DFIG-based wind turbine are invariably the best approach to generate a multi-megawatts power at variable speed with less fluctuation in output power, ability to control its generated active and reactive power with minimal cost. This paper presents a model of a grid connected DFIG based Wind Turbine system for variable- speed where the speed range requirements are small, the overall system simulated using MATLAB/SIMULINK and the results shows the behaviour of DFIG with this type of control system and the numerous advantages in terms of cost reduction and the potential to build economically at multi-megawatt power system, as a result, DFIG grid connected wind turbine is essential.
The energy efficient load is considered as an important tool for efficient management of available
electrical energy in Nigeria because it allows electricity utility to meet the power demand of many consumers
with little or no increase in power supply generation. This paper discusses the technical and economic benefit of
using energy efficient load for electrical services design considering a four-bedroom apartment in Nigeria as a
case study. Load analysis and evaluation were carried out using both conventional load and energy efficient load
for electrical services. The technical benefits were determined by calculating the total energy demand, apparent
power and current drawn by the four-bedroom apartment. Apparent power and current are important tools to
determine Transformer capacity, Cable capacity and Generator capacity for the apartment. The economic
benefits were determined by calculating the daily energy consumption by the four-bedroom apartment and this
is a great tool in computing the daily cost of electricity by the apartment. The result shows that 41.26% of total
energy demand is saved and 32.96% of daily energy consumption is saved if the energy efficient loads were
used as an alternative to conventional load for that four-bedroom apartment.

Outage analysis and system disturbances on 330k v and 132kv transmission syst...Najeem Olawale Adelakun
The Persistent power outage in the country due to
faults has become alarming to the government and the body
responsible for electricity generation in the country. It also
creates a major problem for electricity consumers in Nigeria,
there must be an improvement in the reliability of the
transmission system in Nigeria. This research work is
predominantly concerned with the analysis of outages on
330kV and 132kV transmission system, and system
disturbances on generation and transmission system for five (5)
years. The result shows that the forced outages are the most
occurred outages on the 330 kV line, while on 132 kV line,
emergency outages have the highest number of outages in 2014
but decreases rapidly over the years, similarly, twenty-seven
(27) major system disturbances occurred in 2016 with 31%
against ten (10) with 11% disturbances in 2015, while 2014 and
2018 with the same number of system disturbances of thirteen
(13) with 15%, it is apparent that more disturbances occur on
the transmission system, and there should be a proper
protection scheme to maintain stable grid network.
Consequently, Mini-grid and off-grid solutions will
prominently address the issue of power supply shortage and
instability in Nigeria.
ABSTRACT
Electricity exists in a form that is useful to exploit, however, it will also be important to install electricity as
efficiently as possible, and design of the power distribution system should be convenient so as to minimize
power losses. This paper analyses the electrical service design of a Storey building using the lumen method for
the lighting calculations. The purpose of this work is to present a suitable approach to electrical services design
based on the provision of the Institution of Electrical Engineers (lEE) Regulations, which includes lighting,
power, distribution boards schematics. The results of the whole analysis and design was illustrated with
AutoCAD application. This work gives a direct approach from design of the electrical services to the installation
stage. The results of the calculations in the design helps the designer to make vital decisions such as types of
luminaries, sizes of cables and nominal ratings of protective devices required by each circuit and by the entire
installation in line with appropriate standards and regulations.
Design and Evaluation of Electrical Services for an Energy Efficient HomeNajeem Olawale Adelakun
Abstract- Nigeria is facing an acute shortage of
electric power that drives economic activities.
Consequently, all sectors of the economy are facing
a retrogression in productivity. Besides, even much
of the power made available either from the grid or
self-generation is wasted due to poor installation
design and use of inefficient devices and equipment
such as filament bulbs, and fluorescent lamps
(among others). This work examines the present
common practice of electrical services that wastes
energy with the viewing to advancing the best
practice that minimises overall energy / power loss. A
three-bedroom flat and an eatery in Nigeria were
used as a case study. Load audit, analysis and
calculations were made to assist in making vital
decisions as to the types and sizes of luminaires,
cables and protective devices (among others) to be
used in accordance with known standards and
regulations. The results show that 71.8% and 69.1%
respectively of energy is saved for lighting in three-
bedroom flat and eatery; 37.4% and 30.8% in other
loads used in three bedroom and eatery respectively.
All this is as a result of use of frugal design and
energy saving – saving devices. This further implies
a saving in absolute cost of energy consumed in a
particular situation.
Abstract— Solar Energy is the prime important
source of energy, and it has continued to gain
popularity globally. As of 2018, about 486 GW of solar
PV was installed worldwide. One of the key
requirements for socio-economic improvement in any
nation of the world is the provision of dependable
electricity supply systems. Recently, there is a massive
growth in access to solar electricity in several Africa
countries, notably South Africa, Egypt, Morocco, and
Algeria. As a result, it decreases the global population
without access to electricity with an appreciable value.
This paper review the present state of solar energy
capacity in the world also identifies vital approaches of
improving their functionality, reliability, and
affordability as well as the essential method that
policymakers may implement in the future. The result
shows that there is a recurrent growth in solar energy
annually and as at the end of 2018 Asia with the largest
capacity of 56.58%, while Central America and the
Caribbean have the lowest installed capacity of 0.36%.
As the request for an uninterrupted supply increases in
different regions, progressive builders are embracing
solar photovoltaics (PV) renewable energy as an option
for their customers.

CFD Simulation of By-pass Flow in a HRSG module by R&R Consult.pptxR&R Consult
CFD analysis is incredibly effective at solving mysteries and improving the performance of complex systems!
Here's a great example: At a large natural gas-fired power plant, where they use waste heat to generate steam and energy, they were puzzled that their boiler wasn't producing as much steam as expected.
R&R and Tetra Engineering Group Inc. were asked to solve the issue with reduced steam production.
An inspection had shown that a significant amount of hot flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes, where the heat was supposed to be transferred.
R&R Consult conducted a CFD analysis, which revealed that 6.3% of the flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes without transferring heat. The analysis also showed that the flue gas was instead being directed along the sides of the boiler and between the modules that were supposed to capture the heat. This was the cause of the reduced performance.
Based on our results, Tetra Engineering installed covering plates to reduce the bypass flow. This improved the boiler's performance and increased electricity production.
