GENDER ROLES –
INFLUENCE OF
FAMILY
Family is an important institution which determine the role for
each gender from the early stage of a person’s life. Fairly
speaking the gender inequality starts from the time of birth
itself.
Here are few examples for this
argument.
AT THE TIME OF BIRTH
We have witnessed the cruelty
of female infanticide in many
parts of our country
There are discrepancies right
from selecting the toys dress
etc. for male and female kids
The family as the first
institution assigns dress
code, style of hair cut etc.
to an individual as per the
unwritten rules of the
society.
DRESS, HAIRSTYLE ETC….
PHYSICAL APPEARANCE
There are expectations in the
height, weight of female and
male. Female are expected
to be thin and short
compared to men.
BEHAVIOR AT HOME
The female are expected to do
laundry, cooking, washing dishes,
cleaning , caring the children and aged
people at home etc. where as men are
expected to earn money to the family.
MARRIAGE
FREEDOM
Women are given lees freedom
compared to men in the all aspects at
home.eg. Decision making,
determining life partner, accessing
higher education, travel etc.
EDUCATION
There are areas in India, where
female children are rejected
school education. usually parents
wanted their daughter get
married soon but wanted their
son to do higher studies for
getting better jobs.
JOB EXPECTATION
Family introduce to career set the
ground work for a way of thinking
about future jobs. Traditional
occupation for women include
secretaries, house wives, teachers
and nurses; male occupation
include police officers,
construction workers, truck
drivers, CEOs and bosses.

Gender role - influence of family

  • 2. Family is an important institution which determine the role for each gender from the early stage of a person’s life. Fairly speaking the gender inequality starts from the time of birth itself. Here are few examples for this argument.
  • 3. AT THE TIME OF BIRTH We have witnessed the cruelty of female infanticide in many parts of our country There are discrepancies right from selecting the toys dress etc. for male and female kids
  • 4. The family as the first institution assigns dress code, style of hair cut etc. to an individual as per the unwritten rules of the society. DRESS, HAIRSTYLE ETC….
  • 5. PHYSICAL APPEARANCE There are expectations in the height, weight of female and male. Female are expected to be thin and short compared to men.
  • 6. BEHAVIOR AT HOME The female are expected to do laundry, cooking, washing dishes, cleaning , caring the children and aged people at home etc. where as men are expected to earn money to the family.
  • 8. FREEDOM Women are given lees freedom compared to men in the all aspects at home.eg. Decision making, determining life partner, accessing higher education, travel etc.
  • 9. EDUCATION There are areas in India, where female children are rejected school education. usually parents wanted their daughter get married soon but wanted their son to do higher studies for getting better jobs.
  • 10. JOB EXPECTATION Family introduce to career set the ground work for a way of thinking about future jobs. Traditional occupation for women include secretaries, house wives, teachers and nurses; male occupation include police officers, construction workers, truck drivers, CEOs and bosses.
