The document provides information about rocks and the interior of the Earth. It discusses three key topics:
1) The interior of the Earth is composed of layers, including the crust, mantle, and core. The crust is the thinnest layer and is made up of two types - continental and oceanic.
2) There are three main types of rocks - igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic. Igneous rocks form from cooling magma, sedimentary rocks form from compressed sediments, and metamorphic rocks form from changes to other rock types.
3) Rocks undergo the rock cycle as they are broken down, transformed by heat and pressure, and form new types of rocks

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

8. DID YOU KNOW?
The Crust forms only 0.5 per cent
of the volume of the earth, 16 per
cent consists of the mantle and 83
per cent makes the core.
CRUST
9. THE CRUST
Outer layer
5-100 km thick
Made of light minerals such as silicon and
aluminum
2 types of crust
• Oceanic (very dense, made of basalt)
• Continental (less dense, made of granite)
10. Continental Crust and Oceanic
Crust• Crust is about 35 km. on the continental
masses and only 5 km.on the ocean floors.
• The oceanic crust mainly consists of silica
andmagnesium; it is therefore called sima
(si-silica and ma- magnesium).
• The main mineral constituents of
thecontinental mass are silica and
alumina. It is thus called sial (si-silica and
al-alumina).

15. THE CORE
It is mainly made up
of nickel and iron and
is called nife (ni –
nickel and fe –
ferrous i.e. iron).
The innermost layer
is the core with a
radius of about
3500 km.
The central core has
very high
temperature and
pressure.

liquid
16. INTERESTING FACTS
The deepest mine in the world, is in South Africa.
It is about 4 km. deep. In search for oil, engineers have dug a hole
about 6 km.deep.
To reach to the centre of the earth (which is not possible!) you will
have to dig a hole 6000 km. deep on the ocean floor.
17. QUIZ TIME

ROCKS
TYPES OF ROCKS
DATE: .07.2020
20. ROCKS AND MINERALS
The earth’s crust is made up of
various types of rocks. Any
natural mass of mineral matter
that makes up the earth’s crust
is called a rock. Rocks can be
of different colour, size and
texture.
21. TYPES OF ROCKS
There are 3 major types of rocks-
IGNEOUS ROCKS1
.
2
.
3
.
SEDIMENTARYROCKS
METAMORPHIC ROCKS
22. WORD ORIGIN
IGNEOUS: Latin word Ignis meaning
fire.
SEDIMENTARY: Latin word
sedimentum meaning settle
down.
METAMORPHIC: Greek word
metamorphose meaning change of
form.
23. IGNEOUS ROCKS
Igneous: Latin word
Ignis meaning fire.
When the molten magma
cools, it becomes solid.
Rocks thus formed are
called igneous rocks. They
are also called primary
rocks.
24. TYPES OF IGNEOUS ROCKS
THERE ARE 2 TYPES OF IGNEOUS
ROCKS
INTRUSIVE
ROCKS
EXTRUSIVE
ROCKS.
25. Extrusive Igneous Rocks
Lava is actually fiery
red molten magma
coming out from the
interior of the earth
on its surface.
When this molten
lava comes on the
earth’s surface, it
rapidly cools down
and becomes solid.
Rocks formed in such
a way on the crust
are called extrusive
igneous rocks.
They have a very
fine grained
structure.
For example, basalt.
The Deccan plateau
is made up of basalt
rocks.
26. Intrusive Igneous Rocks
GRANITE IS AN EXAMPLE OF INTRUSIVE
IGNEOUS ROCK
Sometimes the molten magma
cools down deep inside the
earth’s crust.
Solid rocks so formed are called
intrusive igneous rocks.
Since they cool down slowly
they form large grains. Granite
is an example of such a rock.
Grinding stones used to prepare
paste/powder of spices and
grains are made of granite.
27.
28. SEDIMENTS AND SEDIMENTARY
ROCKS
Rocks roll down, crack, and hit each other and are
broken down into small fragments.
These smaller particles are called sediments. These
sediments are transported and deposited by wind,
water, etc.
These loose sediments are compressed and
hardened to form layers of rocks. These types of
rocks are called sedimentary rocks.
For example, sandstone is made from grains of
sand. These rocks may also contain fossils of plants,
animals and other microorganisms that once lived
on them.
29. IMPORTANT FACT
SEDIMENTARY ROCK TURNED INTO A METAMORPHIC
ROCK
Igneous and
sedimentary rocks
can change into
metamorphic rocks
under great heat
and pressure.
For example,
clay changes
into slate and
limestone into
marble.
30. The hard rocks are used for making roads,
houses and buildings.
Stones are used in many games. For
example, seven stones (pitthoo),
hopscotch (stapu/kit kit), five stones
(gitti).
Rocks are used in making monuments.
Eg.- Red fort, Taj mahal, etc.
USES OF ROCKS
The Red Fort is made OF RED
SANDSTONE
The Taj Mahal is
made of white
marble
31. QUIZ TIME
Rocks are made up of minerals. True or False
The rock which is made up of molten
magma is-------
Name three types of rocks.
What are the uses of rocks?
33. • CLASS -3
LEARNING OBJECTIVE FOR THIS CLASS
Rock cycle
Minerals
DATE: .07.2020
34. ROCK CYCLE
DEFINITION- This process of transformation of the rock from one to
another runder certain conditions in a cyclic manner is known as the
ROCK CYCLE.
35. PROCESS OF ROCK CYCLE
When the molten magma cools; it solidifies to
become igneous rock.
These igneous rocks are broken down into
small particles that are transported and
deposited to form sedimentary rocks.
When the igneous and sedimentary rocks are
subjected to heat and pressure they change
into metamorphic rocks.
The metamorphic rocks which are still under
great heat and pressure melt down to form
molten magma.
This molten magma again can cool down and
solidify into igneous rocks
37. MINERALS AND THERE USES:
Rocks are made up of different
Minerals.
Minerals are naturally occurring
substances which have certain
physical properties and definite
chemical composition.
Minerals are very important to
humankind. Some are used as fuels.
For example, coal, natural gas and
petroleum. They are also used in
industries – iron, aluminum, gold,
uranium, etc., in medicine, in
fertilizers, etc.
38.
39. FOR FUN
(i) What are the minerals most commonly
used in the following objects?
(ii) Identify some more objects made up of
different minerals
Objects Minerals most commonly
used in them
