Fish production in India has increased significantly from 41.5 lakh tonnes in 1991-1992 to over 101 lakh tonnes in 2014-2015. Marine protected areas (MPAs) are areas of the marine environment that are protected by law from certain human impacts to conserve natural and cultural resources. While often thought of as completely closed off to humans, many allow some human uses. MPAs help protect ecosystems and habitats from overfishing and other threats, maintaining biodiversity and ensuring resources are available for future generations. Studies show MPAs can help replenish fish populations in surrounding areas. The Marine Protected Areas Fund supports coordination and stewardship among members of the National System of Marine Protected Areas. There are over 1,500 MPAs established across the U.S., with the majority allowing some access and uses while providing permanent protection.

Marine protected area Marine protected areas (MPA) are protected areas of seas, oceans, estuaries or in the US, the Great Lakes .[2] These marine areas can come in many forms ranging from wildlife refuges to research facilities.[3] MPAs restrict human activity for a conservation purpose, typically to protect natural or cultural resources.[4] Such marine resources are protected by local, state, territorial, native, regional, national, or international authorities and differ substantially among and between nations. This variation includes different limitations on development, fishing practices, fishing seasons and catch limits, moorings and bans on removing or disrupting marine life. In some situations (such as with the Phoenix Islands Protected Area), MPAs also provide revenue for countries, potentially equal to the income that they would have if they were to grant companies permissions to fish.[5]
On 28 October 2016 in Hobart, Australia, the Convention for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources agreed to establish the first Antarctic and largest marine protected area in the world encompassing 1.55 million km2 (600,000 sq mi) in the Ross Sea.[6] Other large MPAs are in the Indian, Pacific, and Atlantic Oceans, in certain exclusive economic zones of Australia and overseas territories of France, the United Kingdom and the United States, with major (990,000 square kilometres (380,000 sq mi) or larger) new or expanded MPAs by these nations since 2012—such as Natural Park of the Coral Sea, Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument, Coral Sea Commonwealth Marine Reserve and South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands Marine Protected Area. When counted with MPAs of all sizes from many other countries, as of August 2016 there are more than 13,650 MPAs, encompassing 2.07% of the world's oceans, with half of that area – encompassing 1.03% of the world's oceans – receiving complete "no-take" designation.[7]

Barbados GIS The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has
collaborated with the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and the Blue Economy, and local business
Adams Aquafarms, on a project to train persons in aquaponics.
Aquaponics is a sustainable way of integrating land-based fish farming with plant production.
Both are placed in a tank, and the set up allows for them to coexist, with the waste produced
by the fish fertilizing the plants, while the plants purify the water for the fish.
The training, funded by the FAO, will take place at a demonstration facility, located at
Adams Aquafarms, Hopewell, St. Thomas. The FAO is currently targeting 30 entrepreneurs
and 10 teachers.
Minister of Maritime Affairs and the Blue Economy, Kirk Humphrey, believes the project
will be transformative, as it has the potential to empower Barbadians.
In aquaponics, you have the opportunity to have, at the same time, multiple sources of
income [because] youre getting plant production and fish to eat, he said, adding that he
would like the project to be expanded to include the average Barbadian.
Reiterating that the development of the fisheries and agricultural sectors were key in
Governments vision for a new Barbados, Minister Humphrey said aquaponics would be
beneficial, especially to those who live in areas too limited for medium or large-scale
farming.
The FAOs Regional Project Coordinator at CC4FISH, Iris Monnereau, expressed a similar
view, pointing out the aquaponics was well-suited for Barbados and the wider Caribbean, in
light of water scarcity and persistent drought conditions.
It uses 90 per cent less water than traditional forms of agriculture . It is a very efficient
form of agriculture. It also doesnt use fertilizer and has the added benefit of producing fish,
Ms. Monnereau explained.
She added that the project was part of the FAOs vision to promote climate resilient farming,
while ensuring the establishment and sustainability of profitable agribusinesses in the
Caribbean.
Meanwhile, owner of Adams Aquafarms, Kristina Adams, said she was pleased to partner
with the Food and Agriculture Organization on the initiative.
She was also optimistic about its success, noting that while there was growing interest in
aquaponics, access to technical support locally was an obstacle for many.
According to Ms. Adams, the training would take the form of a five-day workshop consisting
of classroom and practical sessions.
Adams Aquafarm utilizes 1,500 square feet of space to produce 1,000 plants and 800 pounds
of fish. Ninety per cent of the equipment used is sourced locally.
Similar technology is also being adapted in neighboring countries like in Dominica.

2015 International Spatial Planning Symposium: Sharing Practical Solutions

Ocean Planning's Impact
This document assessed the impact of past ocean management plans in several countries and U.S. states. It found that the plans supported $4.1 billion in ocean economies by siting wind farms and retaining existing industries. The plans also generated hundreds of millions of dollars annually in economic gains for new industries like wind power and retained billions within existing industries like fishing and tourism. While fishermen lost some access, they were compensated. The plans encouraged collaboration among stakeholders and expanded environmental protections over 50% of the planned areas while managing industrial growth. Future research on newer plans is needed to fully understand the long-term economic, environmental and social impacts of comprehensive ocean management.
Block Island Wind Farm
The Block Island Wind Farm project will consist of 5 turbines generating 30 MW of energy, enough for 17,000 homes. Construction is underway and commercial operations are scheduled for 2016. The project has completed permitting, engineering, and financing. It will create over 300 construction jobs and establish a new cable to the mainland, positioning the US for national leadership in offshore wind.

Healing is the body’s response to injury in an attempt to restore normal structure and functions.
Healing can occur in two ways: Regeneration and Repair
There are 4 phases of wound healing: hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling. This document also describes the mechanism of wound healing. Factors that affect healing include infection, uncontrolled diabetes, poor nutrition, age, anemia, the presence of foreign bodies, etc.
