What is a function?
A function is a
relationship in which each
member of one set is
paired with exactly one
member of another set.
Letโ€™s look at an
example of a
function.

1 week = 7 days
2 weeks = 14 days
So forthโ€ฆ.

The
relationship
between days
and weeks.
Step 1: Using our data on
days and weeks, we can write
an algebraic expression to
represent this info.
If w=weeks
then our
expression is

7w
FUNCTION MACHINES
Used to help us remember the next step. You do
not have to show the function machine when
completing problems.

Input(X )

Output(Y)

7w
Step 2: Try some values to
determine the output.

Input(X )

Output(Y)

1

7

Input(X )

Output(Y)

Step 3: Using the inputs and
outputs create a function
table.
Input - X
(weeks)

Output - Y
(days)

There is more we can do with
functions and function tables!
We will look at that later!
