Colonialism and Post Colonial Ethnic Conflict in East...
From the end of the nineteenth century until the attainment of independence in the early 1960s, the
countries of East Africa were under the colonial administration of European empires. After decades of
foreign rule which saw unparalleled transformations within society, the post colonial states that
emerged have been blighted by ethnic conflict. It has been argued that the beliefs of British, Belgian
and German administrators led them to completely reorganise the societies they governed based on a
fictitious tribal model, and in the process they invented ethnicity. There is a great deal of debate on
this matter, though, and its continued relevance to contemporary politics only makes it more vigorous.
Before we go on to analyse to what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Curtis Keim has pointed out, though, for Africans it is most often used in a very similar way to that
in which Europeans use ethnic group . Therefore, when we use ethnicity this will be, for some people,
synonymous with tribe ; however, it is best to avoid the latter and any accompanying connotations of
primitivism and backwardness, so that it is clear along what lines we are talking. Carola Lentz may
well have described ethnicity as the joker card , a word that can be introduced at any stage in the
game, replacing potentially more problematic phrases and assuming the characteristics we require of
it, but its introduction is made with the best intentions; in order that we may see ethnicity as a broad
and evolving concept that can indeed mean many things simultaneously. Sir Donald Cameron began
his post as the British governor of Tanganyika in early 1925. Charged with organising the colony s
administration, he made the following statement in July that year: It is our duty to do everything in our
power to develop the native on lines which will not westernise him... We must not destroy... the
African atmosphere, the African mind, the whole foundation of his race, and we shall certainly do this
if we sweep away all his tribal organisations. Cameron s views undoubtedly reflected those of much of
the British colonial administration in East Africa,

Russell Brand Research Paper
Ever wondered what it is like to go through years of rejection and drug abuse and not know what true
reality is like? Russell Brand went through all of it: it started with his childhood and his school years
to going through rehab than getting big. Russell has a hard time changing his ways but it s often the
thought of others that helps him make these changes; he wants to set a good example and hope people
will also make good decisions. So Russell overcame his addictions to become a successful actor/
comedian.
In the beginning of Russell Brands childhood he went through many complications (The

Russell finally agreed to get help (CBS Los Angeles.com). After realizing what he was doing to his
family and friends and he was also scared if he didn t quit now he never would and he could either end
up in jail or dead. At first he tried to fix himself by staying away from drugs as much as possible.
When he found out that Amy Winehouse had died from drugs it made a great impact on Russell (CBS
Los Angeles.com). Amy was a great inspiration to Russell, he was also good friends with her and
never wanted to see her this way. He regrets letting his addiction get so bad for he feels like there
could have been some kind of way he could have saved or helped Amy (CBS Los Angeles.com). He
claims now that the drugs were never the problem, the problem was not knowing what reality was
like. He feels that he could never love someone with this problem. He could only think of how could
anyone love him (CBS Los Angeles.com). He had been threatened that if he could not change he
would be sent to prison for years at a time. He stopped doing drugs and drinking. He now calls people
on an AA list to talk about when he feels the urge to do drugs and drink and they help him get better
and keeps him from thinking about them (CBS Los Angeles.com). Alot of times he would hope they
wouldn t answer so he didn t have to think about how bad he had become. Russell started an

Hitler Was The Leader Of The Great Germany
Hitler was the leader of the great Germany in the beginning of the 20th century. Hitler did a lot of
things and he is mainly remembered for his atrocious actions toward the Jewish. One of the few things
that he was responsible for, and is not much talked about today, is the Degenerate Art Exhibition. The
Degenerate Art Exhibition displayed specific types of artwork, and I believe that the Still life of
Aubergines would have been part of the exhibition for numerous reasons.
As, Barron states, Hitler and his followers, the National socialists, believed in the superiority of the
blond, blue eyed Nordic Hero (4). The people with those characteristics belongs to the Aryan race.
According to Barron, the beliefs and ideas that the Nazis were promoting were not something new (4).
Barron claims that before even Hitler came to power, Germans such ideas (4). First, Barron suggest
that the formation the German empire gave to Germans, a strong sense of nationalism that manifested
itself quite often as a belief in the natural superiority of the Aryan people (4). According to Barron
Germans were highly influenced at that time, by Darwin s book The Descent of Man and his theory of
evolution (4). The main reason why the book had such a huge impact on Germans mindsets was, as
Barron explains, The year 1871 marked both the emergence of the German empire and the publication
of Charles Darwin s The descent of man, a book later used to justify German racism (4). Then Barron
adds that,

Coronation Of Charlemagne
On 25 December 800, Pope Leo III crowned the Frankish king Charlemagne as Emperor, reviving the
title in Western Europe after more than three centuries. The title continued in the Carolingian family
until 888 and from 896 to 899, after which it was contested by the rulers of Italy in a series of civil
wars until the death of the last Italian claimant, Berengar, in 924. The title was revived in 962 when
Otto I was crowned emperor, fashioning himself as the successor of Charlemagne and beginning a
continuous existence of the empire for over eight centuries. Some historians refer to the coronation of
Charlemagne as the origin of the empire,[14][15] while others prefer the coronation of Otto I as its
beginning.[16][17] Scholars generally concur,

Biography Of Susan B. Anthony
The reason that I have decided to do my essay on Susan B. Anthony is because I wanted to show how
much she has done for us Women and girls. To show the way the she got tons of right for women and
girls and how she helped with other things to that were crucial to our country. She was born on
February 15, 1820 in the city of Adams in Massachusetts. Susan was raised in a Quaker family with
long activist traditions. Once Susan and her family moved to Rochester in 1845, lots of her family
members and her were very involved in the anti slavery movement. In 1846, at the age of 26, Susan
took the position of being the head of the girls department at Canajoharie Academy this was her first
paid position. She taught at this school for two years, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Susan encountered a ton of hostile mobs, armed threats, and other things were thrown at her yet she
kept doing what she was doing. In the year of 1859 Susan spoke at the state teachers convention at
Troy, N.Y. and at the Massachusetts teachers convention, she was arguing for coeducation and she
claimed that there were no differences between the minds of men and women. She called for equal
educational opportunities for all regardless of race, and for all schools, colleges and universities to
open their door for men or women who had been enslaved before. Susan also campaigned for the
rights of children of the men and women who had been enslaved before to be able to go public
schools. In the year of 1863 Susan and Elizabeth Cady organized a Women s National Loyal League
so Anthony and Stanton could support and petition for the thirteenth amendment outlawing slavery.
She and Elizabeth went on to campaign for full citizenship for women and for people of any race,
including the right to be able to vote, in the fourteenth and the fifteenth amendments. Susan and
Stanton were very disappointed when they found out that women were excluded from this. So Susan
continued to try and get equal rights for all American citizens, including the people who had been

Lab Assessment Questions amp; Answers 1. What is the difference between an IDS and an IPS?
The main difference between one system and the other is the action they take when an attack is
detected in its initial phases (network scanning and port scanning). * The Intrusion Detection System
(IDS) provides the network with a level of preventive security against any suspicious activity. The IDS
achieves this objective through early warnings aimed at systems administrators. However, unlike IPS,
it is not designed to block attacks. * An Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) is a device that controls
access to IT networks in order to protect systems from attack and abuse. It is designed to inspect
attack data and take the corresponding action, blocking it as it is developing and before it succeeds,
creating a series of rules in the corporate firewall, for example. 2. Why is it important to perform a
network traffic baseline definition analysis?
So the administrator can ensure that the presence, absence, amount, direction,

In May of 1947 Henry S. Truman gave a speech about defending freedom and resisting communisms
influence with a set of plans and policies that came to be known as the Truman Doctrine . This was a
time of great stress on the international community, as the world tried to pick up the pieces, and decide
their new roles following WWII, the United States and the Soviet Union were trying to get a feel for
the position of power that they now possessed. The wartime camaradery with the Soviets based on a

There has been a lot of controversy about religion in public schools. The constitution states these
religion clauses in a very vague and unclear way so it leaves it up in the air for interpretation. Teachers
are allowed to teach religion, but cannot show religion the laws seem to contradict each other so right
now, it is sort of up in the air as to what is legal and what is not.
As a teacher, I try to stay neutral as far as expressing my religious beliefs, however, I do not change
my actions which are based on religious beliefs. Students are affected because they are caught in the
middle, it seems, sometimes. There are some students whose families don t celebrate a holiday, but at
school, they don t want to feel left out so they participate in the religious holiday festivities. It is one
of those really touchy areas that I doubt will ever be completely clear.

The Roots of Our Digital World Essay
The Roots of Our Digital World
Today s world revolves around the storing, organization, and communication of information. While
the world today may seem new and unique, this digital world arose out of a combination of many
smaller steps that varied from innovations like a new discovery in science or a new philosophical
outlook. In their writings Lev Manovich, a professor of New Media at San Diego University, and Dr.
Simon Cook, an Economics professor at Duke University, have developed of a history of what lead to
the development of the visual world. Manovich claims that the digital revolution came in a three step
process. The first took place in the time period between 1870 and 1920. Manovich believes that during
this time period, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Manovich and Cook created a strong structure for a digital history, however, the two failed to make
note of a few critical aspects that compliment and add more depth to this history. Both scholars place
too much emphasis on setting a specific beginning to this history. Manovich and Cook, also, fail to
incorporate the work of Charles Dogson, otherwise known as Lewis Carroll, into the late Victorian
history, and fail to note the importance of technological developments in creation of the modern
digital world.
Finding the actual beginning of the digital history might not be possible and unnecessarily weakens
the narrative. Lev Manovich believes that this history behind the digital world of today began with
developments in the late Victorian time period. Cook refutes this belief and notes that the major
contributors to late Victorian visual reasoning called upon the influence of already existing
mathematics to develop their charts and graphs. The late Victorian time period, however, remains the
initial time period where these influences related to the history of the creation of the digital world of
today (Cook 6 7). While Cook may be correct in making such an argument, Cook s attempt to clarify
Manovich s claim creates more confusion about when the start of this change began.
As the more people study and research the history of the modern

The Color Of Color In The Great Gatsby
Throughout the novel, it can be seen that the most common color accompanying with Gatsby is
yellow. With this color, the author skillfully implies what kind of outer self Gatsby intends to show
before others. Yellow is the color of gold, which symbolizes money, materialism and high social
position. First, yellow stands out as the color that represents new money and wealth acquired.
According to Fitzgerald, On week−ends his Rolls−Royce became an omnibus, bearing parties to and
from the city between nine in the morning and long past midnight, while his station wagon scampered
like a brisk yellow bug to meet all trains....The lights grow brighter as the earth lurches away from the
sun, and now the orchestra is playing yellow cocktail music, and the opera of voices pitches a key
higher (Chapter 3, Page 21). Fitzgerald uses gold, a vivid representation of yellow to symbolize the
wealth gained by Gatsby and the immense desire for him to get even more and to show it off to the
entire society. In the light of the following events, it is easy to see how Gatsby is blinded by his love
for Daisy and therefore money. This evidence shows that he buys a large yellow Rolls Royce to show
off his new money. The band at his party plays yellow cocktail music to show his fulsome way of
living and life. Gatsby chooses the yellow color to decorate himself and his house to show that he has
been one member of their class. As Gatsby thinks that Daisy has never loved anyone else any more

Paracharacterism In The Bell Jar
Sylvia Plath s Bell Jar was composed as a semi auto biographical novel yet it dealt with many of the
contemporary issues of the time such as women emancipation in a psychological sphere. Plath s actual
psyche is reflected in her work which she struggled to continue as a female writer. As an American
writer she faced plentyof criticism which over powered her mental faculty as a clinically depressed
author. Sadly, she ended her life shortly after finishing this novel and her prolific writing career was
cut short. Plath was presented with many obstacles after her traumatic break down which was
mirrored in her work which depicted a sense of imprisonment and looming death, overshadowing any
scope for personal freedom. The novel was partly based ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She visualizes that each fig represents a different set of opportunities: One fig was a husband and
children, and another fig was a famous poet...and another fig was Europe and Africa and South
America... . She can only choose one fig, but because she is reluctant to choose between them, she
becomes paralyzed, unable to choose any, and the figs rot and fall to the ground. The fig tree turns out
to symbolize Esther s choices in life. Each fig represents a different future, and hence stands out as a
critique of the female entrapment advocated in the fifties, where combining professions with
motherhood proved difficult if not impossible. In the novel this is related to Esther s combating
choices in life: career versus motherhood, sexuality versus purity and conventionality versus political
and ideological awareness. The fig tree fable could be interpreted as a metaphor on the bildungsroman
as it represents universal choices for adolescent characters like Esther Greenwood. Choices that Ethel
Rosenberg s had were much narrower. It can be argued that in her opinion, she only had wo role to
choose from, that by nature were poles apart, the roles being that of the loyal and dedicated woman
who is the wife and mother of two little boys and that of a communist radical. However , due to her

The Buddha Of Suburbia By Hanif Kureishi
For many people, the word punk brings to mind similar images of grungy looking teenagers who are
wearing dark, ripped clothing held together with safety pins and chains which displays some sort of
offensive symbol or saying. They are probably also wearing a leather jacket and Doc Martens,
sporting an unconventional hairstyle such as a brightly colored Mohawk or spikes, and listening to
loud music. For the most part, the images people think of as associated with the word punk are a pretty
accurate representation of how people who were part of the punk movement looked. Though most
people can describe what punks are supposed to look like, most cannot explain the purpose of the anti
fashion trend that most punks followed. Throughout Hanif Kureishi s novel, The Buddha of Suburbia,
there is a focus on the emergence of the punk scene in London during the 1970s. The first obvious
encounter we have with punk in the novel appears on page 129, when Karim and Charlie go to the
Nashville and see their first punk band. The Nashville is a popular venue where many punk bands got
their start, and a lot of famous bands, such as the Sex Pistols, performed. Karim describes the scene
that they come upon with a great detailed description of the outlandish appearances of both the
audience and the band members. He also describes the unusual way they are acting, the aggressive
way they are dancing and the abuse between the band and audience. Though his attention is mainly on

Psoriasis Pathophysiology Essay
Psoriasis Pathophysiology Psoriasis is a common skin disorder affecting millions of people. It affects
2 to 3% of the Caucasian population, usually in individuals between 15 and 30 years old. (Liu,
Krueger, Bowcock, 2007). There are several different forms of the disease. The most common type is
chronic plague psoriasis. It presents itself as silvery scaled patches usually on the knees, elbows, lower
back, and scalp. Outbreaks can be triggered by infection, such as strep throat, drug use, psychological
stress, hormonal changes and skin injury. The exact cause is still unknown; however, research has

Although not yet verified, natural killer T cells also seem to play a role in the development of
psoriasis. T cells are not the only increased leukocytes in psoriasis patients. Neutrophils, mast cells,
dendritic cells, and natural killer cells are also increased. Dendritic cells are the other important cell of
study for psoriasis. There are three subsets of cutaneous dendritic cells which include: immature
dendritic cells (iDC), mature myeloid dendritic cells (mDC), and plasmacytoid dendritic cells (pDC).
All three are increased in patients with psoriasis. These cells overall could equal or exceed the number
of T cells in lesions. (Jullien, 2006). Langerhans cells are one type of immature dendritic cell. There
job is to engulf protein antigens by pinocytosis, partially digest these proteins into shorter
polypeptides, and move these polypeptides to the surface. (Fox, 2008). Once they are at the surface,
they are associated with histocompatibility antigen, which in turn activates the T lymphocytes. As
mentioned before, this unnecessary activation of T cells will lead to the hyperproliferation and
differentiation of keratinocytes. In order for these cells to be activated in a way that causes the
inflammatory process associated with psoriasis, they must migrate to the skin. Recruitment of
leukocytes out of the blood stream into the different skin compartments is an active and selective
process. (Jullien, 2006).

The Lighthouse After School Program
Introduction The nonprofit organization that I chose to conduct research on is called the Lighthouse.
The Lighthouse is an after school program for middle and high school students. I decided to research
this organization because I have had a few friends volunteer there and I have heard nothing but
positive comments about it. I really wanted find out more about the Lighthouse because from the little
that I already knew about it, I felt that it provided a safe harbor for our youth in Lincoln and I think
that type of organization is a great asset to the community. In this research paper, I will discuss the
history of Lighthouse, the mission and values of the organization, programs and enrichment that is
provided, projects that have been beneficial to the community, financials, and last but not least, I will
talk about the staff and team at Lighthouse.
History The Lighthouse After School Program was created in the year 1990 by Peter and Maureen
Allman and Jim Perry according to the Lighthouse website (Lighthouse, 2015). Pete Allman visited a
similar organization called The Covenant House while he was in New York City and when he came
back to Lincoln he was told by many that the community and city of Lincoln, Nebraska needed a safe

The King James White
James White is the director of Alpha and Omega Ministries, a Christian apologetics organization

books. He is also an accomplished debater. He is an elder of the Phoenix Reformed Baptist Church,
has been married to his wife Kelli for more than thirty two years, and has two children and two
grandchildren. White s work is a very profound book that talks about the controversy in some
churches about the best translation to use: modern translations or the King James translation. He
fought against the idea of some that the King James Version is the only true Bible. He did an excellent
job defending his own views while pointing out the errors of these groups.
Summary of the Book
The first chapter puts the King James Version Only groups on a spectrum. The least troublesome just

In most of the charts he presented, White put the KJV up next to either the NIV or the NASB (186,

two translations is quiet obvious throughout the book. However, for the purpose of this book, this
preference made him fail to provide a more neutral understanding of the principles he wrote about.
Actually, his favoritism towards these translations went against his own words, But we must be careful
to avoid making the basic error of setting up one translation as the standard over all others (169). The
author would have better demonstrated this principle by using more than just two translations in a

The Effect Of Salinity On Growth And Development

The effect of salinity on gravitropism shown in downward root growth
Background information:
Gravity greatly influences plant growth and development. When plants enters the first stages of

Gravitropism, determines upward shoot growth to secure a correct positioning of the leaves for
efficient photosynthesis and gas exchange. Gravitropism primarily determines the downward growth

to the environment that they are growing in. Many factors influence plants, salinity is one of the most
prevalent. soils that are affected by salt concentrations are mainly present in dry or semi dry areas and
can arise from natural a process called primary salinity, for example weathering of mineral rocks. In
these dry areas, there is often inadequate rainfall or drainage to move the salt down through the soil so
it can ebb away from plant roots. Another form of salinity in soil is secondary salinity where land is
cleared for shallow growing crop plants and the natural vegetation with deeper penetrating roots is
destroyed. Consequently the underground water table is raised to the new crop plants and salinity is
brought with it. Gravitropism has an important impact on our agriculture. I wanted to investigate how
salinity affects gravitropism because every continent is affected by saline concentration in surface
water and soil, but it is irrigated land where most of the world s crops are grown that is most affected
by saline conditions. Since these saline conditions are occurring where a third of the world s food is
produced the understanding of its effect on gravitropism is crucial to plant growth on earth and makes
plants as efficient as

Disadvantages Of Big Data
Introduction
Big Data is the new buzzword recently discussed highly in industry, academia and research as it was
generated profusely due to the technology revolution caused by Internet of Things (IoT).Knowledge
Management being a strategic process carried out in industry with great focus was seriously impacted
by the Big Data and its analytics as they were interchangeability used in various context relating to
Information and Knowledge Management. The reason is none other than the significance of Data in
the KM system, as a tool that link people, technology and processes. As the Data increased in its size,
speed, variety, complexity and variability it became Big Data . This study actually tries to explain the
key components of KM in organizations and the characteristics of Big Data and their mutual impact.

Several explanations were given about the buzzword Big Data . Big Data describes a process in which
serious computing power is applied to seriously massive and often highly complex sets of information
(Microsoft Research, 2013). Big data is also defined as a cultural, technological, and scholarly
phenomenon based on three elements such as Technology, Analysis and Mythology (Boyd and
Crawford, 2012). The first reason behind the quick expansion of Big Data is the extensive degree to
which data are created, shared and utilized across the organizations and virtual networks formally and
informally in the recent times. Digitization, that is, the transformation of analogue signals into digital
ones, reached massive popularity in the early 1990s. The data information knowledge wisdom
hierarchy offers an alternative view, according to which information appears as data that are structured

Motive For Murder In Hamlet
Murder often represents the revenge or hatred felt by a desperate soul attempting to fill an empty
space. Shakespeare s Hamlet Prince of Denmark is full of death, but the true purpose behind tragic
murders is buried beneath a cynical reason. King Claudius slowly unravels the details of his dirty act,
and Queen Gertrude, Hamlet, and Ophelia all have a part in the deaths that occur throughout this
eventful play. The crimes that are committed only help to destroy the pitiful existence that each of
these characters portray. The horrific murders that take place throughout Shakespeare s Hamlet
provide the motive for revenge by the characters of Claudius, Hamlet, Ophelia, Laertes and Gertrude.

Ophelia is a confusing and emotional character because her body does not match her mind;
mesmerizing on the outside but devious on the inside. Her life is constantly surrounded by men who
have either taken advantage of her beauty or people who believe she is actually going insane. King
Claudius and Hamlet are prime examples of men who continually disrespect her kind heart. Letters are
given back to Hamlet by Ophelia and this causes an intense conflict between these two artful
characters. Hamlet becomes extremely upset and states, That if you be honest and fair, your honesty
should admit no discourse to your beauty (Shakespeare 3.1. 107 108). Her destiny appears to be in a
nunnery to prevent her dreadful life from progressing to insanity, but reality snatches her first. Ophelia
s motive of revenge is brought upon several characters through a shameful crime; suicide. Her lifeless
body floats in a bed of water surrounded by flowers after the drowning occurs. Shakespeare s brilliant
imagery provides the reader with an insight of just how peaceful her death is, but it also guides the
reader towards why she killed herself in the first place. Revenge is the main reason of Ophelia s
suicide and her wishes come true after her brother, Laertes, is deeply affected. His sister has just died,
and he is desperate to prove himself worthy of living

Throw Your Hands in the Air Maybe You´ll Hit a Drone Essay
Throw Your Hands In The Air...Maybe You ll Hit A Drone It is never too early to be concerned about
the future. Especially if the argument and the justification for concern can be made now. Jeff Bezos of
Amazon has proposed a drone fleet that will venture into an unfamiliar frontier of package delivery,
bringing customers all orders under 5lbs their package by one of Amazons specially designed
octocopters . Though this plan is nothing more than to use drones to deliver packages the idea is
extreme and has people up in arms. The reason people are concerned is because they foresee the older

mean the American government is supporting and putting time, effort, and funds into something that
goes towards violating the right to privacy the American people have. However, the authors response
to the Poe statement is to present evidence of another senator who claims, Before drones start
delivering packages, we need the FAA to deliver privacy protections for the American public, This
defense to the argument that people shouldn t be concerned of Amazon s drone use yet this falls short
of addressing the real issue. Senator Ed Markey, who made this defense, is ignoring the point that this
plan like any other drone related plan would be infringing people s privacy. People are right to be up

Which Army Leader Win A Better Battle Plan Essay
Throughout the ages of history, there were many wars that were fought. For every victory and defeat,
what was it that really determined the outcome of the war? Which army leader had the better or worse
battle plan? With the plan they had, did it increase their chances of victory? Were there key factors in
an army leader s plan that lead to their defeat? Or, was the best decision made to completely avoid
war? For a lot of the wars that took place and the ones that were avoided many years ago, the mystery
still remains unsolved on how and why certain army leaders were victorious or gained a certain

This was a tactic in attempts to keep the enemy guessing and to cause the enemy to feel threatened and
unsafe. It was a good strategy to trick the enemy into always thinking and feeling that an attack would
happen at any given moment, something that would cause the enemy to develop stress or become
restless with less chances of obtaining a sense of peace or assuming that an attack was not going to
happen. If one was able to master the technique of deception, then it was likely that one will increase
the chances of victory. In addition, it was crucial to become aware and analyze the enemy in order to
determine if a planned and deceptive attack would work. Or, it was better to avoid confrontation if it
was determined that the enemy would be stronger. Sun Tzu took into consideration that pacifism was

My Lai Massacre Summary
The explanation of why upright people execute wrongful actions is interpreted in multiple ways. In
The My Lai Massacre: A Military Crime of Obedience, Herbert C. Kelman, a professor of social
ethics, and V. Lee Hamilton, a sociologist, discuss how the practice of authorization, routinization, and
dehumanization are employed to carry out unethical actions similar to the My Lai Massacre. The
American Law assumes that subordinates should be obeying orders; however, when linked to obeying
superiors, moral principles become inoperative. Erich Fromm, a psychoanalyst, and the author of
Disobedience as a Psychological and Moral Problem, explains how the different types of mindset and
authorities can be noticeably effective in whether one is obedient. ... Show more content on

As US military expert Rod Powers explains how those who are military members who fail to obey
their superiors risk serious consequences in Military Orders , and could relate to why Dawson and
Downey were convicted for their crimes (Power). Required to follow orders, a soldier does not need to
obey an unlawful order, but those who obey can be pinned with criminal prosecution and in this case,
it matches with Dawson and Downey s situation where they taped and tied up Santiago (Power).
Fromm can conclude that irrational authority is used by using a comparison between a slave and their
master; the superior wants the best they can draw from their subordinate and tries to exploit them,
leading them to control with force (Fromm 126). When it comes to deciding whether or not an order is
ethical, it is also the soldier s call to believe the legitimacy of the order; according to Saul McLeod,
who is a psychologist and the author of Obedience to Authority, obedience is a form of social
influence by responding to a direct order from another individual (McLeod). Although Col. Jessup
urged for no one to touch Santiago, Kendricks directly ordered Dawson and Downey to treat him with
a Code Red, going against Col. Jessup s orders. Numerous situations occur where two people will
discuss the same topic, but would contradict each other. It is easy to say I was only following orders to
justify one s self to explain their reasoning, but that statement, also known as the Nuremberg Defense,
is not going to save a person every time. Yes, Dawson and Downey were only following orders, but
did they ever take a moment to question whether it was the right action and for a sensible reason?
Probably not in consideration that it is a routine to follow a command because if they deny their
superior s order, many consequences will follow. Kelman and Hamilton logically claimed that

Breakthroughs In Biotechnology Research
Biotechnology to extend age in humans
Biotechnology is used everyday to change life, as we know it. In fact, people don t realize that early
humans used biotechnology 10,000 years ago. Early humans were producing beer, wine, bread, and
yogurt by means of fermentation. Biotechnology is any technique that uses organisms or their
products to make a new product, to improve the life of humans or to develop microorganisms for
specific scientific uses (Paul Cooley, 2014). As early as 1500 BC humans were storing plants with
certain traits such as disease resistance in order to selectively breed certain plants with certain traits to
better their lives (Jeffrey Kruck Langland, 1999). A huge breakthrough in biotechnology was the
creation of penicillin in 1942 (Paul Cooley 2014). This was a huge breakthrough and it save a lot of
lives from disease during World War II. According to Paul Cooley (2014) in 1980 biotechnology was
used to rid the world of smallpox. Much disease such as breast cancer has been discovered through
biotechnology such as breast cancer and Parkinson s disease (Paul Cooley, 2014). They found these
diseases to be gene related. In 1997 a sheep was cloned from a single adult cell through biotechnology
(Paul, Cooley, 2014). Biotechnology has been a very important part in many ways to human life, but
most people do not realize that Biotechnology may extend human life and create a better world of
organisms. Biotechnology affects agriculture, the energy used to power

Classical Music Comparison
What is classical? Serious or conventional music following long established principles rather than a
folk, jazz, or popular tradition. This is the universally accepted definition of what classical music is.
But what is classical music defined as in my opinion? Well, classical music for myself falls within the
serious category, same as the first definition. A serious composition of music without vocals. Classicl
was also a time period, and that is what I will focus primarily on for the subject and question at hand,
what is classical? Classical music has had different periods which includes romantic (1804 1910), but
classical itself as a period (1750 1820) was a clear un textured form of music in comparison to the
others. One well known artist that fell under the classical period was Mozart. Mozart was and is one of

The Limited Liability Partnership ( Llp )
The limited liability partnership (LLP) is another type of partnership. LLP is a partnership consisting
of one or more general partners and one or more limited partners (p. 554). It was created to limit the
personal liability of the partners of losing their personal assets to only their own acts and omissions
and to the acts and omissions of people under their supervision (Nickels, McHugh, McHugh, 2013, p.
119). This business form also allows a partnership to continue as a pass through entity for tax purposes
(Miller, 2014, p. 554). However, limited liability partnership is not recognized as a legal business
structure in every state, unlike the general partnership, In addition, taxing authorities in some states
recognize the structure of LLP as a nonpartnership for tax purposes due to its special structure (Scott
Media, n.d.). There is also a limited partnership, which has one or more general partners and one or
more limited partners. One partner will be a general partner and has unlimited liability and is active in
managing the firm whereas the limited partner will only invest money in the business but does not
have any management responsibility or liability for losses beyond the investment.
Moreover, corporations are another form of business. A corporation is defined as legal entity formed
in compliance with statutory requirements that is distinct from its shareholder owners (Miller, 2014, p.

My Philosophy Of Nursing Philosophy
My philosophy of nursing My own nursing philosophy arises from my Knowledge as a nurse,
personal beliefs and experiences, I have gathered throughout the years from my interactions with
diverse patient population and other healthcare professionals, while working in different setting as a
nursing in the health care. This also addresses nurse s ethics, goal and values as it relates to my
nursing practice. My Nursing Philosophy is based on five components: nursing, Person, environment,
holistic care and health. Person: One of the central concept in nursing care is person or human being
(McEwen and Wills 2007). My nursing philosophy focused on treating each person as a unique
individual that deserves to be valued and treated with respect, dignity, compassion. Also deserves
excellent service, regardless of their socio economic status, age, religious preference, gender, spiritual
condition, sexual orientation, physical condition and race. Patient should be empowered as a member
of a support system, they deserved to be involved, educated and informed in all aspect their health
care. Nursing attitude towards a person can indirectly or directly affect a person in your care. Patient
centered care is also very important in nursing care, each nurse should provide care that is focused on
the expectation, aspiration and needs of each individual patient rather than the needs of the

The Challenges Of Homeschooling
Homeschooling
Homeschooling is a dynamic development around the nation and the world, in which fathers and
mothers instruct their kids at home as opposed to sending them to a customary open or tuition based
school (Martin, 2015). Some of the parents believe that homeschooling is safer for their children than
public schools and would make the family ties getting closer. They think if they teach their child they
can raise their own child the way they want them to be. Parents have a right to choose what is best for
their children but does a child have the same right? In the US parents are deemed to have absolute
right over their children thus decide how their children receive education overlooking the fact that
children also have rights and as the modern society we need to step in a ensure children get education.

King s Gothic Naturalism
Naturalist writers of the early 20th century convey the notion that persons are fated to whatever station
in life their biological heredity and social environment prepare them for. Those who profess to be
proponents of the naturalist perspective see literature as a means to understand the nature of man.
Since the naturalist found in scientific discovery only a confirmation of humankind s helplessness in
the face of indifferent and inscrutable forces, their writings usually generate an uninspiring idea of
humanity s frailty (Strengell 11 12). While the deterministic worldview is logical, it is difficult for
many to resonate with powerless and doomed characters. Thus, the only way for the naturalistic frame
of mind to reach a wider ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jack is a man who struggles to control his temper, especially when under the influence. Growing up
with an abusive father, Jack had taken his lumps when the old man was drunk, which was a lot of the
time, (King 229). That is how his father dealt with all his children. When Jack was seven years old, he
was spanked by a neighbor lady for playing with matches, and he threw a rock at passing car in anger
(King 160). Jack s father witnessed his behavior and punished him, physically and severely. Having
learned that Jack responds to violence irrationally, one is not surprised when Jack subsequently kicks a
dog into the gutter. Upon getting insight into Jack s past, one should immediately assume that Jack is
predestined to succumb to brutish behavior because he either learned this by watching his father give
his children their medicine or inherited it like a physical trait.
King highlights the extent to which heredity affects Jack when he notes that Jack s father s fate

Personal Statement Of Faith By God
PERSONAL STATEMENT OF FAITH
As a man purchased by God through his Son, I believe it is necessary to clearly state, in a concise
manner, the closed handed truths I believe as guided by Scripture. My Statement of Faith summarizes
essential Christian beliefs, shows unity in Christ, and guards me from potential error.
I affirm these gospel truths, with the understanding that my confidence in these truths grows
progressively over time. These beliefs are great cause for joy. Far more than just words on a page, they
are precious gifts from God.
I. The Scriptures.
I believe that the 66 books of the Bible are God s word revealed to us, written by God s apostles and
prophets. In its original manuscripts it contains truth without error as it unfolds the story of God his
creation, our fall, his redemption and restoration; therefore it is, and will remain to the end of the
world, the true center of Christian union. The Scriptures are the supreme standard by which all human
conduct, creeds, and opinions should be tried.
II. The Triune God.
We believe that there is one, and only one, living and true God. He is an infinite, intelligent Spirit, the
Maker and Supreme Ruler of heaven and earth, glorious in holiness, and worthy of all possible
worship, trust, and love. In the unity of the Godhead there are three persons: the Father, the Son, and
the Holy Spirit, equal in every divine perfection, and executing distinct but complimentary offices in
the great work of redemption.

Great Expectations Quote Analysis
In the first part of the novel Great Expectations, Charles Dickens retold the story of a young boy who
is an orphan and got adopted by the Black Smith s family. The young boy s name is Pip and it is seen
how he transforms from a young boy to a gentleman as he wants to become someone better or enter a
higher social class. Some advantages that could define what great expectations might mean to Pip is
being well educated and entering a higher social class.
Essentially, one of the first things that defines Pip s great expectations is being a well educated
individual. In this quote stated by Dickens, it is discussed that the more educated you are, the more
likely you are given the opportunity to do anything you want. It is considered ... Show more content

He also heard the story of Joe and decides to not give up on him trying to get his education to not be

Furthemore, a second definition for the meaning great expectations might be becoming a gentleman .
In this quote stated by Dickens, it is stated that Pip wishes that everything was different, especially
how he was brought up and raised. I wish Joe had been rather more genteelly brought up, and then I
should have been so too. This particular quote signifies that Pip would also want to become a
gentlemen to be worth the same as other people and wants to become a gentlemen to date Estella who
is at a higher social level than him. There are always those who are on a low level and would like to
rise up to a higher level. For example, Pip is in a low social class, but he doesn t like being common as
others and wants to become a

Golf: A History Golf often makes people think of boring, old men walking around a huge green
course. This is not always the case. Many different people have been known to enjoy the game of golf.
Where golf came from is bound to surprise some people who think it is just for elderly people. Golf is
very interesting to learn about, including: the history, association s tournaments, women in golf, and
famous players. The history of golf is widely discussed and no one knows for sure where it came
from. It is said to have originated in early Roman eras. Though its origins are uncertain, many
countries have early records of the game. Women have always been excluded in most sports ... Show

The PGA was founded in 1916 and is headquartered in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The PGA has
both men and women members.
The PGA Hall of Fame was established in Lake Park, Fla., in 1940. Ten years later a Ladies Golf Hall
of Fame was formed... Zaharias was the first woman named to all four halls of fame. Several states
have halls of fame to honor their native golfers. The Golf House is a library and museum of golf,
which was opened in 1951 at the USGA s headquarters in New York City but has been located in Far
Hills, N.J. since 1972. It features a large collection of books, trophies, and other mementos. (Golf
Institutions 1 16)
The Ladies Professional Golf Association is the same as the PGA, but for women. Several
professional tournaments for women were staged during the 1920s and 30s. It was not until the 1940s
that efforts began in earnest to form a professional golf organization for women. (The Ladies
Professional Golf Association 5 6) The first, the Women s Professional Golf Association (WPGA),
was created in 1944. Even the success of its players could not keep the WPGA going and it folded in
1949. The LPGA was incorporated in August 1950 by the old members of the WPGA and more.
Funding for LPGA tournaments was at first so poor that golfers had to perform many of the
organizational tasks and course maintenance chores. Soon, the introduction of the Weathervane series
of tournaments proved

Comparing Beowulf And American Culture
Introduction
After reading the epic poem Beowulf, translated by Burton Raffel, one would see culture from the
Anglo Saxon civilization.
Taking a glance into the American pop culture you would see a parallel universe between the two,
Anglo Saxon and America.
When looking at American cultural values, one could find similarities and differences, while looking
at the Anglo Saxon civilization
Main Point #1
When looking at both the Anglo Saxon and American culture, a sole person would see how popular
people boasted, and they would be able to tell the difference between the two civilizations is God.
Popular meaning the upper class.
Between lines 545 and 585 Beowulf replies to Unferth saying (qoute 24).

The people of Anglo Saxon believe that God only rewards people who prove themselves. This fact is
proven when the author states, between lines 980 981, that (qoute 32)...
The previous reasonings prove that even though people from both the American civilization and the
Anglo Saxon civilization boast, but only the Saxon boast because of God.
Main Point #2
A difference between the Anglo Saxon people and the American people is the fact that the Americans
forget where they come and what they re about, but the Saxon people never forget their views.
In the Beowulf, lines 1740 1750, Healfdane s son said (quote 55) .
By saying this he meant that no matter what happens in a warrior s life, the fighters never forget why
they re doing it. The warriors always remembers that God is helping them throughout their journey
and that there will be future rewards.
Popular people in the American society seems to forget that they came from a small town. They
neglect the fact that while they re making millions of dollars, their hometowns are struggling in
poverty. They fail to thank God, He s the least of their

The Context Of South African Education In South Africa
South Africa Context
In the context of South Africa education, teachers are one of the importation pillars in the upliftment
and transformation of the society. As South Africa education faces challenges so the teachers too.
After restructuring of national government and education in South Africa after apartheid in 1996,
education faces with several challenges such as
Constant shift in educational curriculum
Integrating inclusive in the classroom
Accommodation of diverse learner
Lack of adequate support system for teacher
And lack of enough quality teachers.
The Outcome Based Education (OBE) was adopted after apartheid method of education was cancelled
in order to redress the inequalities caused by apartheid government. The poor implementation and
integration leads to it death .The Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement replaced the OBE. In
the centre of all this changes and shift, the teachers suffer fear of the unknown which resulted in major
challenges they faces across the system particularly with respect to confidence and competence in
daily with the curriculum and changes in education. Education Labour Relations Council
(ELRC),2009 noted in its report that South African teacher comes with different historical
qualification and educational background, the majority of which were developed under apartheid

Wuthering Heights Vs Thrushcross Grange
Many plays and novels use contrasting places. In Wuthering Heights, Emily Bronte sets the novel
around Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange, two neighboring houses on the Yorkshire Moors
in England. Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange are two different places with completely
different characteristics and vibes.
Wuthering Heights is home to Heathcliff, Catherine, Hindley, and Nelly. Wuthering Heights gives off
a more rebellious, free spirited vibe. It has a more country feel compared to Thrushcross Grange.
Wuthering Heights lacks hospitality and comfort. The people in Wuthering Heights represent more
wild, rebellious characters. Heathcliff and Catherine are great examples of this free spirited, wild, and
rebellious characters in how they run off together and just the way they live their lives, especially
when they were younger before Catherine married Edgar and moved to Thrushcross Grange. The
characters in Wuthering Heights also represent a more middle to lower class household compared to
the lavish life lived at Thrushcross Grange. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thrushcross Grange represents refinement, class, and civilization. The characters at Thrushcross
Grange are considered more of upper class, which is what intrigues Catherine. Thrushcross Grange is
home to Edgar, Isabella, and their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Linton. After Catherine and Heathcliff are
caught at Thrushcross Grange by the dogs, Catherine gets hurt so they let her come in and they
basically pamper her, but they tell Heathcliff that he cannot stay, which is presumably because of his
skin color, which angers

The Curse Of A Curse
Has it ever crossed your mind if you, your family or someone you know is being cursed based on
events happening in your or their life? While some people believe curses to be total bogus there are
actually many people out there who believe in being cursed. To be cursed means to invoke by evil. A
curse is the effective action of some power, distinguished solely by the quality of adversity that it
brings. It may also be said to result from a spell or prayer, imprecation or execration, or other
imposition by magic or witchcraft, asking that a god, natural force, or spirit bring misfortune to
someone. ( ). There are four different types of curses the first beginning with Biblical curses, These
curses are there for those who do not obey God s commandments. The next type is Witchcraft curses,
these are Curses placed on us by witches, any kind of witchcraft for the solutions to any problems one
may have. The third type is Spoken curses by people who are not witches, people place these curses
just by what they say or express about other people and lastly, there are Self imposed curses. This type
of curse is based on what you say about yourself. If you say something negative about yourself, you
are giving the devil permission to send you a demon. (,). People can cast evil spells like a curse for
similar reasons such as attempting to get even with enemies or trying to get ahead in life. In the novel

Essay about Presidential-Congressional Relations
Presidential Congressional Relations
How does public opinion, presidential patronage, iron triangles, the distribution of power within
congress, and whether the presidents agenda involves, foreign or domestic policy affect the president s
ability to mobilize congressional support for his programs and bills? Are these relations between the
president and congress showing signs of support towards elite or popular democracy? These are the
questions brought to light in this paper and each factor will be discussed as to why these functions
operate as they currently do. Without congressional approval the president is helpless as to his power

The president may chose to hold a press conference, run commercials, hold a fireside chat, or run a
propaganda or slandering campaign in order to bring public opinion over his bill into favor. Another
factor in the president s mobilization of support for a program in congress is presidential patronage.
Presidential patronage as defined by the president now in office, giving his best supporters or
contributors key positions in office. In order for the president to be able to rally support quickly and
efficiently from the public, having people in offices or positions of influence over many people is very
favorable. As these people who being given patronage jobs for their support of the president, will feel
obligated to show support. Not only can the people the president appointed to office show their
support but they can rally their underlings in office for their support also. This is a very favorable way
for the president to gain momentum with his bill, because these people are basically guaranteed votes
and need only to show their strength to congress to support this idea. Mixed into the patronage idea
are the contributors necessary for most of the funds behind a campaign. The president has the
advantage here, because he can appoint these contributors to honorary positions. Therefore threatening
the individual congressmen with the thought of losing a valuable contributor for their own campaigns
for office (if they go against the president and his

Interpreting Victoria s Secret
Seductive and amusing, Victoria s Secret has evolved into a company eluding a highly influential
cultural presence around the world. Demanding the attention of its millions of consumers, Victoria s
Secret has expanded into a corporation that is presently worth $1.9 billion, and contains 670 stores
across the country. (elitereaders.com. 11.11.2015) Practically inescapable, the company s vast
portrayal and emphasis on physical appearance encourages its customers to place their values of self
worth on their outward image, and, as a result, creates a distorted association between being
perceivably sexy and being empowered as a woman. Observed from its immense growth as a

As observed in everyday life, women are often not only purposefully, but independently, shopping
around the store, browsing and purchasing intimate sets that boost her self confidence and encourage
positive feelings of sexiness. On numerous shopping occasions, husbands and boyfriends can be found
closely following behind their women as they shop, implicating a switch in gender roles and
associating women with a less conventional role of dominance and authority. In addition, Victoria s
Secret appeals to its targeted customers, women between the ages of 20 35 years old, by illuminating
the achievability of youthfulness and sensuality, aiding in the common perception of female
empowerment. However, these observations only serve to further support the belief that Victoria s
Secret serves to enforce man s ideals by creating an unachievable image of perfection. In terms of
physique and outward appearance, women s persistent feelings of physical inadequacies are rooted in
their [generally] natural desires to appeal and attract members of the opposite sex; thus, the
provocative exhibition of women as seen in the quixotic fantasy of women serves to create an
absurdly high standard. Resultantly, passivity and compliance, qualities that also fall within men s
delusional perception of womanly perfection, are supported and reinforced by Victoria s Secrets
campaigns, advertisements, and spatial

  • 2. Colonialism and Post Colonial Ethnic Conflict in East... From the end of the nineteenth century until the attainment of independence in the early 1960s, the countries of East Africa were under the colonial administration of European empires. After decades of foreign rule which saw unparalleled transformations within society, the post colonial states that emerged have been blighted by ethnic conflict. It has been argued that the beliefs of British, Belgian and German administrators led them to completely reorganise the societies they governed based on a fictitious tribal model, and in the process they invented ethnicity. There is a great deal of debate on this matter, though, and its continued relevance to contemporary politics only makes it more vigorous. Before we go on to analyse to what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Curtis Keim has pointed out, though, for Africans it is most often used in a very similar way to that in which Europeans use ethnic group . Therefore, when we use ethnicity this will be, for some people, synonymous with tribe ; however, it is best to avoid the latter and any accompanying connotations of primitivism and backwardness, so that it is clear along what lines we are talking. Carola Lentz may well have described ethnicity as the joker card , a word that can be introduced at any stage in the game, replacing potentially more problematic phrases and assuming the characteristics we require of it, but its introduction is made with the best intentions; in order that we may see ethnicity as a broad and evolving concept that can indeed mean many things simultaneously. Sir Donald Cameron began his post as the British governor of Tanganyika in early 1925. Charged with organising the colony s administration, he made the following statement in July that year: It is our duty to do everything in our power to develop the native on lines which will not westernise him... We must not destroy... the African atmosphere, the African mind, the whole foundation of his race, and we shall certainly do this if we sweep away all his tribal organisations. Russell Brand went through all of it: it started with his childhood and his school years to going through rehab than getting big. Russell has a hard time changing his ways but it s often the thought of others that helps him make these changes; he wants to set a good example and hope people will also make good decisions. So Russell overcame his addictions to become a successful actor/ comedian. In the beginning of Russell Brands childhood he went through many complications (The Guardian.com). After realizing what he was doing to his family and friends and he was also scared if he didn t quit now he never would and he could either end up in jail or dead. Amy was a great inspiration to Russell, he was also good friends with her and never wanted to see her this way. He regrets letting his addiction get so bad for he feels like there could have been some kind of way he could have saved or helped Amy (CBS Los Angeles.com). He claims now that the drugs were never the problem, the problem was not knowing what reality was like. He feels that he could never love someone with this problem. He could only think of how could anyone love him (CBS Los Angeles.com). He had been threatened that if he could not change he would be sent to prison for years at a time. He stopped doing drugs and drinking. He now calls people on an AA list to talk about when he feels the urge to do drugs and drink and they help him get better and keeps him from thinking about them (CBS Los Angeles.com). Alot of times he would hope they wouldn t answer so he didn t have to think about how bad he had become. Russell started an organization called Freehab so the people who ... • 4. Hitler Was The Leader Of The Great Germany Hitler was the leader of the great Germany in the beginning of the 20th century. Hitler did a lot of things and he is mainly remembered for his atrocious actions toward the Jewish. One of the few things that he was responsible for, and is not much talked about today, is the Degenerate Art Exhibition. The Degenerate Art Exhibition displayed specific types of artwork, and I believe that the Still life of Aubergines would have been part of the exhibition for numerous reasons. As, Barron states, Hitler and his followers, the National socialists, believed in the superiority of the blond, blue eyed Nordic Hero (4). The people with those characteristics belongs to the Aryan race. According to Barron, the beliefs and ideas that the Nazis were promoting were not something new (4). Barron claims that before even Hitler came to power, Germans such ideas (4). First, Barron suggest that the formation the German empire gave to Germans, a strong sense of nationalism that manifested itself quite often as a belief in the natural superiority of the Aryan people (4). According to Barron Germans were highly influenced at that time, by Darwin s book The Descent of Man and his theory of evolution (4). The main reason why the book had such a huge impact on Germans mindsets was, as Barron explains, The year 1871 marked both the emergence of the German empire and the publication of Charles Darwin s The descent of man, a book later used to justify German racism (4). Then Barron adds that, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The title continued in the Carolingian family until 888 and from 896 to 899, after which it was contested by the rulers of Italy in a series of civil wars until the death of the last Italian claimant, Berengar, in 924. The title was revived in 962 when Otto I was crowned emperor, fashioning himself as the successor of Charlemagne and beginning a continuous existence of the empire for over eight centuries. Some historians refer to the coronation of Charlemagne as the origin of the empire,[14][15] while others prefer the coronation of Otto I as its beginning.[16][17] Scholars generally concur, ... The main difference between one system and the other is the action they take when an attack is detected in its initial phases (network scanning and port scanning). * The Intrusion Detection System (IDS) provides the network with a level of preventive security against any suspicious activity. The IDS achieves this objective through early warnings aimed at systems administrators. However, unlike IPS, it is not designed to block attacks. * An Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) is a device that controls access to IT networks in order to protect systems from attack and abuse. It is designed to inspect attack data and take the corresponding action, blocking it as it is developing and before it succeeds, creating a series of rules in the corporate firewall, for example. 2. • 10. The Roots of Our Digital World Essay The Roots of Our Digital World Today s world revolves around the storing, organization, and communication of information. While the world today may seem new and unique, this digital world arose out of a combination of many smaller steps that varied from innovations like a new discovery in science or a new philosophical outlook. In their writings Lev Manovich, a professor of New Media at San Diego University, and Dr. Simon Cook, an Economics professor at Duke University, have developed of a history of what lead to the development of the visual world. Manovich claims that the digital revolution came in a three step process. The first took place in the time period between 1870 and 1920. Manovich believes that during this time period, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Manovich and Cook created a strong structure for a digital history, however, the two failed to make note of a few critical aspects that compliment and add more depth to this history. Both scholars place too much emphasis on setting a specific beginning to this history. Manovich and Cook, also, fail to incorporate the work of Charles Dogson, otherwise known as Lewis Carroll, into the late Victorian history, and fail to note the importance of technological developments in creation of the modern digital world. Finding the actual beginning of the digital history might not be possible and unnecessarily weakens the narrative. Lev Manovich believes that this history behind the digital world of today began with developments in the late Victorian time period. Cook refutes this belief and notes that the major contributors to late Victorian visual reasoning called upon the influence of already existing mathematics to develop their charts and graphs. The late Victorian time period, however, remains the initial time period where these influences related to the history of the creation of the digital world of today (Cook 6 7). While Cook may be correct in making such an argument, Cook s attempt to clarify Manovich s claim creates more confusion about when the start of this change began. • 11. The Color Of Color In The Great Gatsby Throughout the novel, it can be seen that the most common color accompanying with Gatsby is yellow. With this color, the author skillfully implies what kind of outer self Gatsby intends to show before others. Yellow is the color of gold, which symbolizes money, materialism and high social position. First, yellow stands out as the color that represents new money and wealth acquired. According to Fitzgerald, On week−ends his Rolls−Royce became an omnibus, bearing parties to and from the city between nine in the morning and long past midnight, while his station wagon scampered like a brisk yellow bug to meet all trains....The lights grow brighter as the earth lurches away from the sun, and now the orchestra is playing yellow cocktail music, and the opera of voices pitches a key higher (Chapter 3, Page 21). Fitzgerald uses gold, a vivid representation of yellow to symbolize the wealth gained by Gatsby and the immense desire for him to get even more and to show it off to the entire society. In the light of the following events, it is easy to see how Gatsby is blinded by his love for Daisy and therefore money. This evidence shows that he buys a large yellow Rolls Royce to show off his new money. The band at his party plays yellow cocktail music to show his fulsome way of living and life. Gatsby chooses the yellow color to decorate himself and his house to show that he has been one member of their class. As Gatsby thinks that Daisy has never loved anyone else any more except ... Paracharacterism In The Bell Jar Sylvia Plath s Bell Jar was composed as a semi auto biographical novel yet it dealt with many of the contemporary issues of the time such as women emancipation in a psychological sphere. Plath s actual psyche is reflected in her work which she struggled to continue as a female writer. As an American writer she faced plentyof criticism which over powered her mental faculty as a clinically depressed author. Sadly, she ended her life shortly after finishing this novel and her prolific writing career was cut short. Plath was presented with many obstacles after her traumatic break down which was mirrored in her work which depicted a sense of imprisonment and looming death, overshadowing any scope for personal freedom. The fig tree turns out to symbolize Esther s choices in life. Each fig represents a different future, and hence stands out as a critique of the female entrapment advocated in the fifties, where combining professions with motherhood proved difficult if not impossible. In the novel this is related to Esther s combating choices in life: career versus motherhood, sexuality versus purity and conventionality versus political and ideological awareness. The fig tree fable could be interpreted as a metaphor on the bildungsroman as it represents universal choices for adolescent characters like Esther Greenwood. Choices that Ethel Rosenberg s had were much narrower. • 18. The Buddha Of Suburbia By Hanif Kureishi For many people, the word punk brings to mind similar images of grungy looking teenagers who are wearing dark, ripped clothing held together with safety pins and chains which displays some sort of offensive symbol or saying. They are probably also wearing a leather jacket and Doc Martens, sporting an unconventional hairstyle such as a brightly colored Mohawk or spikes, and listening to loud music. For the most part, the images people think of as associated with the word punk are a pretty accurate representation of how people who were part of the punk movement looked. Though most people can describe what punks are supposed to look like, most cannot explain the purpose of the anti fashion trend that most punks followed. Throughout Hanif Kureishi s novel, The Buddha of Suburbia, there is a focus on the emergence of the punk scene in London during the 1970s. The first obvious encounter we have with punk in the novel appears on page 129, when Karim and Charlie go to the Nashville and see their first punk band. The Nashville is a popular venue where many punk bands got their start, and a lot of famous bands, such as the Sex Pistols, performed. Karim describes the scene that they come upon with a great detailed description of the outlandish appearances of both the audience and the band members. He also describes the unusual way they are acting, the aggressive way they are dancing and the abuse between the band and audience. Though his attention is mainly on the emergence of the ... T cells are not the only increased leukocytes in psoriasis patients. Neutrophils, mast cells, dendritic cells, and natural killer cells are also increased. Dendritic cells are the other important cell of study for psoriasis. There are three subsets of cutaneous dendritic cells which include: immature dendritic cells (iDC), mature myeloid dendritic cells (mDC), and plasmacytoid dendritic cells (pDC). All three are increased in patients with psoriasis. These cells overall could equal or exceed the number of T cells in lesions. (Jullien, 2006). Langerhans cells are one type of immature dendritic cell. There job is to engulf protein antigens by pinocytosis, partially digest these proteins into shorter polypeptides, and move these polypeptides to the surface. (Fox, 2008). Once they are at the surface, they are associated with histocompatibility antigen, which in turn activates the T lymphocytes. As mentioned before, this unnecessary activation of T cells will lead to the hyperproliferation and differentiation of keratinocytes. In order for these cells to be activated in a way that causes the inflammatory process associated with psoriasis, they must migrate to the skin. Recruitment of leukocytes out of the blood stream into the different skin compartments is an active and selective process. (Jullien, 2006). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Lighthouse is an after school program for middle and high school students. I decided to research this organization because I have had a few friends volunteer there and I have heard nothing but positive comments about it. I really wanted find out more about the Lighthouse because from the little that I already knew about it, I felt that it provided a safe harbor for our youth in Lincoln and I think that type of organization is a great asset to the community. In this research paper, I will discuss the history of Lighthouse, the mission and values of the organization, programs and enrichment that is provided, projects that have been beneficial to the community, financials, and last but not least, I will talk about the staff and team at Lighthouse. History The Lighthouse After School Program was created in the year 1990 by Peter and Maureen Allman and Jim Perry according to the Lighthouse website (Lighthouse, 2015). Pete Allman visited a similar organization called The Covenant House while he was in New York City and when he came back to Lincoln he was told by many that the community and city of Lincoln, Nebraska needed a safe place where youth could go and hangout. The Effect Of Salinity On Growth And Development Factors affecting gravitropism: The effect of salinity on gravitropism shown in downward root growth Background information: Gravity greatly influences plant growth and development. When plants enters the first stages of growth, the primary factor that determines the outcome of the plant s survival is gravitropism. Gravitropism, determines upward shoot growth to secure a correct positioning of the leaves for efficient photosynthesis and gas exchange. Gravitropism primarily determines the downward growth of roots. Gravity has an effect on molecules in a seed known as susceptors. In plants the gravity susceptors, or statoliths, are believed to be dense amyloplasts that collect in specialized cells, or statocytes. In roots they are located ... Many factors influence plants, salinity is one of the most prevalent. soils that are affected by salt concentrations are mainly present in dry or semi dry areas and can arise from natural a process called primary salinity, for example weathering of mineral rocks. In these dry areas, there is often inadequate rainfall or drainage to move the salt down through the soil so it can ebb away from plant roots. Another form of salinity in soil is secondary salinity where land is cleared for shallow growing crop plants and the natural vegetation with deeper penetrating roots is destroyed. Consequently the underground water table is raised to the new crop plants and salinity is brought with it. Gravitropism has an important impact on our agriculture. I wanted to investigate how salinity affects gravitropism because every continent is affected by saline concentration in surface water and soil, but it is irrigated land where most of the world s crops are grown that is most affected by saline conditions. Since these saline conditions are occurring where a third of the world s food is produced the understanding of its effect on gravitropism is crucial to plant growth on earth and makes plants as efficient as ... As US military expert Rod Powers explains how those who are military members who fail to obey their superiors risk serious consequences in Military Orders , and could relate to why Dawson and Downey were convicted for their crimes (Power). Required to follow orders, a soldier does not need to obey an unlawful order, but those who obey can be pinned with criminal prosecution and in this case, it matches with Dawson and Downey s situation where they taped and tied up Santiago (Power). Fromm can conclude that irrational authority is used by using a comparison between a slave and their master; the superior wants the best they can draw from their subordinate and tries to exploit them, leading them to control with force (Fromm 126). When it comes to deciding whether or not an order is ethical, it is also the soldier s call to believe the legitimacy of the order; according to Saul McLeod, who is a psychologist and the author of Obedience to Authority, obedience is a form of social influence by responding to a direct order from another individual (McLeod). Although Col. Jessup urged for no one to touch Santiago, Kendricks directly ordered Dawson and Downey to treat him with a Code Red, going against Col. Jessup s orders. This also addresses nurse s ethics, goal and values as it relates to my nursing practice. My Nursing Philosophy is based on five components: nursing, Person, environment, holistic care and health. Person: One of the central concept in nursing care is person or human being (McEwen and Wills 2007). My nursing philosophy focused on treating each person as a unique individual that deserves to be valued and treated with respect, dignity, compassion. Also deserves excellent service, regardless of their socio economic status, age, religious preference, gender, spiritual condition, sexual orientation, physical condition and race. Patient should be empowered as a member of a support system, they deserved to be involved, educated and informed in all aspect their health care. • 41. King s Gothic Naturalism Naturalist writers of the early 20th century convey the notion that persons are fated to whatever station in life their biological heredity and social environment prepare them for. Those who profess to be proponents of the naturalist perspective see literature as a means to understand the nature of man. Since the naturalist found in scientific discovery only a confirmation of humankind s helplessness in the face of indifferent and inscrutable forces, their writings usually generate an uninspiring idea of humanity s frailty (Strengell 11 12). While the deterministic worldview is logical, it is difficult for many to resonate with powerless and doomed characters. Thus, the only way for the naturalistic frame of mind to reach a wider ... Growing up with an abusive father, Jack had taken his lumps when the old man was drunk, which was a lot of the time, (King 229). That is how his father dealt with all his children. When Jack was seven years old, he was spanked by a neighbor lady for playing with matches, and he threw a rock at passing car in anger (King 160). Jack s father witnessed his behavior and punished him, physically and severely. Having learned that Jack responds to violence irrationally, one is not surprised when Jack subsequently kicks a dog into the gutter. Upon getting insight into Jack s past, one should immediately assume that Jack is predestined to succumb to brutish behavior because he either learned this by watching his father give his children their medicine or inherited it like a physical trait. King highlights the extent to which heredity affects Jack when he notes that Jack s father s fate resembles that of the main character in naturalist author Frank Norris novel, McTeague: A Story of San Francisco (1977). McTeague is completely deterministic the epitome of naturalistic characters.
