Career Education And Business Management
As technology continues to advance, it is becoming more important for organizations to frequently
train their employees. This study will combine adult and career education and business management
disciplines to define and answer this research question, What is the most effective way to train newly
employed or employed adult learners new job skills or tasks within an organization? Combining my
two disciplines, adult and career education and business management, creates a job for people who are
professional trainers for businesses or organizations. These professional trainers are specialized in
teaching newly employed or employed people or groups new skills and tasks within a specific
department in an organization. Organizations normally hire specialized trainers, but for smaller
training, they will use a manager or supervisor as trainers, which save them time and money. For
trainers to determine the most effective methods, they first need to understand how adults learn and
why they learn differently than younger students. When trainers understand how adults learn, they will
be able to determine what learning styles should be used for each individual trainee, allowing them to
learn new information and skills efficiently. Once the trainer knows how adults learn and they
different learning styles, he or she will be able to determine the most effective method to use for
training an employee or employees for each specific department within an organization.

Exploring Personal Choices in Toni Morrison s Beloved Essay
Exploring Personal Choices in Toni Morrison s Beloved
At the climax of her book Beloved, Toni Morrison uses strong imagery to examine the mind of a
woman who is thinking of killing her own children. She writes,
Because the truth was simple, not a long drawn out record of flowered shifts, tree cages, selfishness,
ankle ropes and wells. Simple: she was squatting in the garden and when she saw them coming and
recognized schoolteacher s hat, she heard wings. Little hummingbirds stuck their needle beaks right
through her headcloth into her hair and beat their wings. And if she thought anything, it was No.
Nono. Nonono. Simple. She just flew. Collected every bit of life she had made, all the parts of her that
were precious and fine and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One example of a character who is succesful in avoiding the path of common sense is Sixo, one of the
other slaves on the plantation that Sethe had run away from. He carries on relations with the Thirty
Mile woman , a girl slave on another plantation. As her name implies, he has to travel thirty miles
(during the night) to see her. One meeting place he tries to use is an Indian holy spot; the place s
presence gives him permission to use it. In the end, he has had sex with her the night before he is
killed by slave hunters (226). Shortly before that time, he refused to speak English any more. At the
end of the novel, Paul D tries to use Sixo s words as a way to describe what he wishes his relationship
with Sethe would be (state to convey?): She is a friend of my mind. She gather me, man. The pieces I
am, she gather them and give them back to me in all the right order. It s good, you know, when you
got a woman who is a friend of your mind.
The story gives absolutely no hint as to how Beloved feels or why she does what she does. It only
describes what she does and says. All events in the story are consistent with the possibility that 124
was subject to earthquakes for a while (perhaps because of coal mining in the vicinity), and then a
tramp who had almost drowned in the river and had high fever wandered up to the house, stayed there
a while, and ran away when she saw the

The Holy Spirit Is God
The Holy Spirit is God Himself. He is a person that we can have a personal relationship with. Also,
the Holy Spirit is the one that God gave to us as a guide, to direct and teach us in living a Holy life
(King James Version, John 14:16). The Holy Spirit is the voice inside of us that tells us when
something is not right with the choices that we have made. The voice inside of us comes from God,
who loves and cares enough to show us our error that we have made. Also, the Holy Spirit is part of
the Trinity; where God transformed into three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. When
a person is born again, they believe and receive Jesus Christ (John 1:12 13), God comes through
people s life through the Holy Spirit (1Cor.3:16). The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Holy Spirit also acts in non believers as well. The Holy Spirit makes people feel guilty about the
things that they have done and helps them to ask for God forgiveness on their sin. (John 16:8 11). The
Holy Spirit pulls on our hearts and minds asking us to repent and turn to God for forgiveness and a
new life. When the Apostle Paul was planting church in his missionary journey, he preached lots about
the duty of the Holy Spirit, and the role that he plays in our lives for example in Roman 8:1 8. In view
of this scripture, there is a very distinct difference between the human flesh and the Holy Spirit. The
Apostle Paul said that as long we become Christian, the Spirit of Jesus Christ has set us free from the
worldly law of sin. Whatever the flesh could not do Jesus Christ has come to paid it all and to set us
free from condemnation.
What is the Activity of the Holy Spirit?
The Bible talks about several roles that the Holy Spirit plays in the lives of people today. The first
thing that the Holy Spirit does is he provides conviction of sin to all people. John 16:8 said, And when
he comes, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment . Also, the Holy
Spirit works in several ways for many believers that follow Christ. One of the roles that He works is to
serve as a comforter and a helper in our daily life. In John 14:16 17 this means that there is someone
that is helping us and guiding us and encouraging us during difficult time of

Service Design And Physical Setting
Glasgow s Riverside Museum, home to over 3,000 items, has been hailed excellent , terrific and fab
by TripAdvisor reviewers (TripAdvisor, 2014). The museum offers visitors a unique experience,
where they can enjoy views of the River Clyde and the Tall Ship while they immerse themselves in
learning about Glasgow s historical past. The museum offers a unique service experience, where the
use of technology in order to enhance the visitor s experience is prevalent. In certain areas, such as
Main Street, a replica of a Glasgow street the late 19th and early 20th century, the museum makes use
of sound and lighting effects to create a particular ambience, whereas in other areas there is a distinct
lack thereof. A visit to the museum to experience the service encounter first hand allows a critical
evaluation of the encounter in terms of the service design and physical setting. One useful way to look
at service design is by use of the servuction model (Hoffman and Bateson, 2010, p.9). The model
illustrates the visible and invisible factors which influence the customer s experience, and can aid
organisations when designing their service. The servuction model consists of visible and invisible
elements, all which have an effect on a customer s service experience, whether or not they are aware
of it. One of the visible elements identified in the servuction model is the contact personnel. These are
the organisation s front line employees who interact with visitors. On my visit to

Powerade Case Study
Powerade is a sports energy drink manufactured by Coca Cola. It has been around since 1988 and was
intended to compete with Gatorade in the sports drink industry. After being introduced, it successfully
became the official sports drink for the Olympics of that year. Their product line consists of only
beverages and lacks complementary goods like protein bars or energizing snacks. Their two specific
products is the Powerade ION4 and Powerade ZERO. ZERO is a healthy alternative for consumers in
which the product has zero calories in the beverage. It is not typically recommended for intense heavy
training. Instead they have the ION4 as a substitute for those who train hard. Despite the differences,
both products include the electrolytes needed to replace the ones lost to respiration and sweating
during workouts. In terms of this product s current lifecycle, many arguments could definitely be
made for its status. Since there is only two major giants or manufacturers in the sports drink industry, I
would consider Powerade to be in a late maturity stage of their product life cycle. It is obviously
behind Gatorade in terms of sales. I would argue late maturity because of the product s longevity on
the market. They have lowered their costs over the years and in return this means lowered profits, but
this strategy allows them to compete. Gatorade is the premium on the market and their sales are still
up. According to Business Insider, I reviewed graphs of the market share of both

Duvet Covers Advantages And Disadvantages
The duvet covers are an integral part of the bedding. The covers not just make the bed look beautiful
but it also helps in protecting the duvets. The duvets are used every day so they need to be washed
frequently in order to be kept clean. As an everyday used item the duvets can absorb a lot of dust and
also spills. If the duvet is not cleaned and it keeps on absorbing dust and moisture, then it can become
the home of several germs.
The duvet covers are also known as the comforter covers. There is a wide range of benefits of using
these covers. The covers can provide you comfort, convenience and style. They can be easily changed
as they are cost effective. They can be bought in any color, style and a variety of materials.

The length of the fibers of the Egyptian cotton are really long which means that it is of high quality. It
can be spun into finer and thin fiber. This results in creating soft sheets and lighter duvet covers. The
reason for buying the high quality fiber is the lightness of the fiber.
The lighter covers are less warm as compared to the covers which are heavy and thick. The heavier
and hot covers make you perspire more and all of that moisture is absorbed by the duvet. If there is a
cover over the duvet, the moisture will be absorbed by the cover. The cover will absorb the moisture
and it will keep the moisture from getting in the duvet. The duvet will be kept safe and clean with a
cover over it. The longevity of the duvet also depends on the quality of the cover.

Dogs, Ferrets, and Toads in the Wyoming Plains Essay
Dogs, Ferrets, and Toads in the Wyoming Plains
This report is about three species that inhabit the Wyoming plains. One of these species is the black
tailed prairie dog which inhabits nearly all of the U.S. and was at one time considered to be
endangered. The second is the black footed ferret which was thought to be extinct until a small colony
of these little predators was discovered on a ranch near Meeteetse Wyoming. The third and final
animal mentioned in this report is the Wyoming toad. These toads are becoming increasingly scarce in
the wild.

When the predator is gone, a special all clear call informs family members that the danger is over.
(San Francisco Zoo)
The prairie dog is popularly characterized as being a nuisance by farmers and ranchers. This is mainly
due to the fact that they can significantly reduce stands of grass in livestock pastures. Some stockmen
claim that the removal of prairie dogs has had some direct association with the undesirable spread of
brush. This has had detrimental effects on the livestock industry which far outweighs the damage
prairie dogs might do. (San Francisco Zoo)
Mustela nigripes or the black footed ferret is a long yet small predator. The female black footed ferret
ranges in weight from 645 to 850 grams, while the weight of males ranges from 915 to 1125 grams.
These ferrets range in length from 380 to 600mm (head and body). (Mustela nigripes)
The black footed ferret mainly resides in the grasslands of North America just as the black tailed
prairie dog. Each ferret requires about 100 120 acres of space upon which to forage for food. (Mustela
nigripes) The ferret s primary diet consists of prairie dogs and other small rodents found in the
grasslands. A ferret can be found in the abandoned burrow of a prairie dog.
Ferrets are mostly active at night and are very solitary creatures except during the breeding season.

The Process Of Mitosis And The Function Of Chromosomes,...
By: Cole Kaicher, Michael Grabel, Benjamin Finkel
Period Four Garand

The process of mitosis is one performed millions of times a day by every living thing. Each of these
cells contains the blueprints of our bodies, which are scientifically known as chromosomes, genes, and
DNA. The purpose of this paper is to inform people about the process of mitosis, and to teach people
about the function of chromosomes, genes and DNA, and the relation between one another.
The process of mitosis is a five step process that starts from just a single cell. Every minute of
everyday, cells are dying, and in order for us to stay alive and functioning they must be replaced. For
example, if you get a cut on your hand, cells die. In order ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Half of the chromosomes go to one side and half go to the other. When the chromosomes are on either
side telophase begins. Telophase is when the division is almost done. The cell membrane closes and
splits in two. From this you get two different cells. The process is complete... for now. Interphase is
when a cell is in it s resting state. The cell is just going about its normal business and getting ready for
another cell division that is soon to come.
The process of mitosis is a fascinating process which occurs when a cell needs to split into two child
cells. The process happens all the time as we grow, get injured, and need cells to repair our body, or
just to replace cells that have died.
Chromosomes, genes, and DNA are all connected. Each goes into each other like russian nesting dolls.
You start with the human body, inside the human body you have trillions of cells, which all contain
nuclei. Inside the nuclei are twenty three pairs of chromosomes, forty six total. Coiled inside each of
these chromosomes is DNA, and the DNA is made up of genes.
Every cell has different organelles, and these organelles eliminate waste and produce energy. The cell
nucleus is an organelle, and it is here that we find chromosomes. Imagine chromosomes like a
briefcase carrying the blueprints of life. Chromosomes are an outer casing for DNA, and they are the
ones who carry all of the information related to our bodies composition

Compare And Contrast Mariah Carey And Mariah Carey
How Two Completely Different Artists: Britney Spears and Mariah Carey changed Pop Music? One is
the Pop Princess, one is the ultimate diva of all time, how can I put the two together to write an essay?
Their music may sound miles apart but their influence and impact on the pop music scene is surely on
the same par. At the end of the 80s, in the heydays of Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, a new artist
emerged from, well practically nowhere, she s Mariah Carey, since her debut, she scored more hits and
sold more records than any other artist yet her impact on the pop music remains rather obscured. So in
this first part of my essay, I m going to reflect on her legacy by writing about her key influence and
contributions to music. Whether did comparison came naturally from her and Whitney Houston
because they are so vocally alike and Houston is her only rival that can be compared to Carey at the

Misinformation Theory
The malleability of human memory is a widely debated and researched topic in recent psychology due
to our reliance on memory in almost every aspect of society, specifically in eyewitness testimonies. If
a witness testifies to their memory of an event, then how could they possibly get the details wrong?
Research shows that a large portion of human memory is actually reconstructive essentially, we
unconsciously alter or attend to specific aspects of memory according to our emotions, expectations
and prior knowledge (Howe Knott, 2015). This theory is most apparent in the psychological
phenomenon referred to as the misinformation effect , the idea that introducing a person to false

Does the type of stress encountered while encoding a stressful event affect the person s susceptibility
to misinformation? This study proposes to examine the interaction between the amount of cortisol in
the body, the type of stress and the susceptibility to misinformation. Participants will be randomly

Each participant will undergo one of the stressful events, watch a neutral video and then be introduced
to a wide range of misinformation revolving around the video they just watched. Memory
performance and the misinformation test will be measured through a verbal tested administered the
next day. Cortisol levels will be measured both before the stressful test and after watching a neutral

The Enron Corporation Scandal
IDENTIFY THE ACCOUNTING PRACTICES THAT WERE ASSOCIATED WITH THE
ACCOUNTING SCANDAL.
The Enron Corporation failures made world headlines for many reasons ranging from greed from its
executives, the alleged malpractice and criminal behaviours, and its quick and disastrous collapse. The
most critical factor in Enron s melt down was the use of creative and manipulative accounting
practices to distort reported profitability and indebtedness that befell the corporation (A. Holt and T.
Eccles, 2002) The accounting practices involved in this case are the revenue recognition criteria
adopted by Enron Corporation, Market to Market strategies, the use of Special Purpose Entities,
booking to cost as assets and the corporate governance practices.
Revenue Recognition Mark to market and Merchant Model Revenue is the gross inflow of economic
benefits (cash, receivables, other assets) arising from the ordinary operating activities of an entity
(such as sales of goods, sales of services, interest, royalties, and dividends). [IAS 18.7]. Revenue
recognition, as defined in the IASB Framework, means incorporating an item that meets the definition
of revenue in the income statement when it is probable that any future economic benefit associated
with the item of revenue will flow to the entity, and the amount of revenue can be measured with
reliability.
Enron used revenues as its primary financial objective, performance driver and a measure of success.

Philips, The Largest European Light Bulb Producers
In Holland, Gerard Philips started a light bulb factory with his father in 1892. Later, Gerard s brother,
Anton, joined them adding his experience in sales and management. The Philips family run business
eventually grew to be one of the largest European light bulb producers. In Japan, 23 year old

his company by adding new products. By the company s 40th year they had over 5,000 different
products and owned 40% of the Japanese appliance stores. How did Philips become the leading
consumer electronics company in the world in the postwar era? What distinctive competence did they
build? What distinctive incompetencies? When Philips was founded in 1892, their strategy was to
focus strictly on producing and selling light bulbs. By investing in new production technology to
manufacture their light bulbs, Philips became a leader in industrial research. Research in Gerard
Philips opinion was vital to implementing new procedures, innovation, and improving production. At
this time, Philips was using the home replication strategy. This strategy is used when a company does
not see any reason to adjust their domestic strategy as they enter international markets. Around 1918,
Philips began expanding its product line which made it more difficult to implement the home
replication strategy. During the late 1930s, when the war was about to begin, Philips moved around its

How Harry Is A Moral Figure During A Time Of War
Choices that Harry makes often lean him into dangerous situations and endanger other people, yet his
intentions are always in an attempt to help and it is their actions after a situation goes bad that truly
shows how Harry is a moral figure during a time of war. During Deathly Hallows, Harry, Ron, and

Cache And Various Mapping Technique
Abstract This paper begins with the discussion about cache and various mapping technique. Then we
shift our focus on compressed caching which is the technique that tries to decrease paging request
from secondary storage. We know that there is a big performance gap in accessing the primary
memory (RAM) and secondary storage (Disk). The Compressed caching technique intercepts the
pages to be swapped out, compresses them and stores them in pool allocated in RAM. Hence it tries to
fill the performance gap by adding new level to virtual memory hierarchy. This paper analyze the
performance of virtual memory compression. Further to avoid various categories of cache misses we
discuss different types of cache technique to achieve higher performance. Lastly we discuss few open
and challenging issues faced in various cache optimization techniques.

Basically, cache is the smallest and fastest memory component in the hierarchy. It is aimed to bridge
the gap between the fastest processor to the slowest memory components at a reasonable cost. It
maintains the locality of information and support the reduction of average access time. The address
mapping converts physical address to the cache address. But when it comes to virtual memory
systems, swapping turns out to be the greatest factor for reduce in performance. Disk latency is around

Issues Of Spanish People In The Book Taking Sides
The main issues of the Spanish people in the book Taking sides , is having to live in the Barrio. An
example of this is in the beginning of the book, when Lincoln s Old house has been burglarized.
Eventually Lincoln s mother makes the decision to move away to a safer neighborhood . Lincoln is
fairly lucky in his case, as his mother had saved money to get out of the Barrio. However, most of
Lincoln s friends aren t so lucky as they dont have the money to get out of the ghetto. And try not to

Summary Of Catch 22 By Joseph Heller
David Payne

Mrs. Baker
AP English 4
Aggressors and Victims in Catch 22 Catch 22 by Joseph Heller is an obvious satire about modern day
ethics in business, medicine, and the military and the incompetence, pettiness, and corruption within
the bureaucratic ranks of the military. Each of its character s represent something special and they are
either aggressors or victims of the aggressors. The aggressors in the novel are the ones who bully or
manipulate selfishly and heartless. They have zero compassion for human life and answer only to
those with the money and the power. The victims are the ones that are the target of such bullying and
manipulation by the aggressors. The aggressors in the novel are Milo Minderbinder, ex P.F.C.
Wintergreen, Colonel Cathcart, General Dreedle, and Captain Black. The victims in Catch 22 are
Yossarian, Doc Daneeka, Nately, the Chaplain, and Major Major. Milo Minderbinder, the first
aggressor, is satire for modern business and all that is wrong with it. As a mess officer he runs a
lucrative enterprise syndicate and his only real care is profit. He will go to great lengths to make a
profit and he has no allegiance or loyalty to a country, person, or principle unless it pays him. He cares
about no one other than the money and therefore has no real concern for anyone else. Even though he
says that everyone has a share in the profits of the syndicate, this is not really true, he just says it to
make more money for himself with their help.

Prior to this trip, the only time we went to Mexico was for new year s. But we stayed in the gated
community. I wasn t able to comprehend how someone can think that Mexico is beautiful outside of
the gated communities. I always asked myself How is Mexico beautiful?
Crossing the border was a lot easier than I expected. Looking out the window, I saw nothing but stray
dogs, homeless drunks, and people trying to sell old stuff. It wasn t the image of beautiful I had in my
mind. It was around Christmas time so everyone had their worn nativity sets out. We kept driving
through Tijuana for what seemed like hours. We stopped for tacos at a little stand on the side of the
road. The tacos were delicious but the man who made them looked as if he had worked all day and
night.
While we ate I watched these two little kids play together. By the way they were arguing, I made the
assumption that they were siblings. As I watched I saw them playing with toys that seemed centuries
old. They had one doll and a doll house made of sticks. The longer I watched the less I started to see
the flaws. They were so happy with the little they had. I was so mesmerized by the make shift doll
house my parents asked if I was okay.
Yeah, I m fine. Just tired I answered quickly.
After we finished eating, we drove through more what seemed like deserted towns. All around me
were houses made of tin and blankets, crops in front of peoples houses, and people begging for
money. It was a sad thing to see, so I turned away, closed my eyes, and slowly fell asleep. When I
woke up, we had arrived at my Tia Olga s house. She had a large gate around her property protecting
her and the house. When she let us in, it revealed an old and a new house,

Research Paper On Abrahamic Religions
The Abrahamic religions refer to the three monotheistic religions of Judaism, Christianity and Islam,
all of which claim the prophet Abraham as their forefather. These religions account for more than half
of the world s total population today. All Abrahamic religions claim to worship only one god and that
God is their creator, ruler and judge. Christianity has a fundamental belief that follows the Trinity
doctrine and this contradicts the Jewish, Islamic and other monotheistic religions.
Judaism believes that there is only one God named Yahweh who was creator of all. The Masoretic
Text is foundation of all the various sects of the Hebrew religion.
Eventually Judaism evolved into the Christian Church with different beliefs and religious practices.
With Jesus Christ as their central figure who is recognized by almost all of the Christian
denominations to be part of the Trinity of God. The New Testament is the ultimate authority along

The On The Sandy Hook Shooting
On December 14th, 2012, Adam Lanza entered Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown,

Newtown only being about 30 minutes away from where I live, affected my city greatly. The rest of
the school year every elementary school in my district had a police officer stationed in front of it and
my high school s security policies would change. The school put alarm systems on the doors and lock

A major topic being discussed in gun control today has to do with how mental illness factors into these
shootings and what should be done pertaining to mental health gun restrictions. The general public
seems to favor the idea of increasing the reporting of mental illness in background check databases
and limiting the ability of those with mental illness from gaining access to guns. In an article by James
D. Calvert PhD, a licensed clinical psychologist and lecturer in the Department of Psychology at
Southern Methodist University, cites a recent study done by The New England Journal of Medicine
that found that both gun owners, and those who don t own a gun agree that mental health providers
should be required to report those who have threatened to hurt themselves, or others to a background
database (Calvert, 76). Another article written by Jeffrey W. Swanson, PhD., a lecturer in the
Department of Psychiatry at Duke University, discusses how the public bases its information on what
it learns from sources in the media, which reinforces the public s perception of a strong link between
mental illness and violence. (Swanson, 169). This perception then also helps creates a fear of people
with mental illness and makes those with such problems afraid to seek voluntary treatment. The
scapegoating of those with mental illness is believed by many doctors and researchers to influence

A Student s Right to Their Own Language Interpretive Essay
Chelsea T
Should Students be Able to Use the Dialect They Choose? The Conference on College Composition
and Communication discusses two very important and controversial questions within their article
Students Right to Their Own Language : What should the schools do about the language habits of
students who come from a wide variety of social, economic, and cultural backgrounds? (2), and
Should the schools try to uphold language variety, or to modify it, or to eradicate it? (2). While for
academic writing purposes students should be expected to use standard American dialect, it is
important to respect the diversity and various heritages throughout the country by allowing students to
use the dialect they choose when speaking. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Allowing students to speak dialects they chose when communicating with peers is acceptable outside
of the classroom and in informal class discussions because there are no requirements that are
necessary to reach within casual communication. If people were not able to speak the dialect they
prefer, we would be rejecting them of their own lifestyles because we would not be allowing the
freedom which the United States promises.
Standard American dialect is necessary in academic writing for three key reasons. First, the ability to
use standard American dialect is a skill that people living in America should obtain because it is the
most spoken and written language across the country. Having the knowledge to use standard American
dialect will be helpful in many different situations, such as in the classroom and business world. In
addition, being able to write using this dialect, will guide in writing a stronger, clearer paper, as well
as ensuring unity between all academic writing. I disagree with the following statement from Students
Right to Their Own Language : We affirm strongly that teachers must have the experiences and
training that will enable them to respect diversity and uphold the right of students to their own
language (3). Teachers should not have to go through an immense amount of training

Wind, Earthquake And Its Effect On The Earthquake Essay
Unlike wind, earthquake is a different phenomenon which generates a ground motion. The intensity or
acceleration of the earthquake depends upon the magnitude and location of its epicenter. The seismic
waves caused by the earthquake cause inertial forces in the building. The inertial forces are created
when an outside force tries to move a body in rest which happens in this case as seismic waves tries
the move the building in rest. We all know that when a building is subjected to inertial forces it should
obey the newton s second law of motion.
F=M.a (3)
Where F is inertial force and M denotes mass of building and a is the acceleration with which the
building is moved due to seismic activity.
Duration, velocity and displacement:
From the newton s second law, it is evident that acceleration is a key factor in determining the forces
on a building. But there is one more criteria that we have to look into is the duration of the earthquake.
Earthquake that has moderate acceleration, sustained over time, can cause much more damage to
buildings than a single much larger peak. It weakens the building structure and reduces its durability.
The strong motion duration is often termed as bracketed duration (Arnold 2013). This is the shaking
duration above a certain threshold acceleration value, which is 0.05g, and is defined as the time
between the first and last peaks of motion that exceeds this threshold value (Arnold 2013). The strong
motion

Comparing The Haunted House In The Fall Of The House Of...
A haunted house, or a house in which all is not as it seems, is a common trope of Gothic literature.
This is due to the familiar nature of the home being distorted into something wholly uncanny. In The
Fall of the House of Usher the past sin of the Usher family results in the ultimate demise of, not only
the house, but also the Usher bloodline. The house in Poe s tale is in a state of severe decay. This is
similar to the residents of the house who are suffering from a hereditary illness that is inflicted upon
the Usher family. Similarly, in The House of The Seven Gables, a once magnificent house has become
a ruin of its former self due to a curse that affects the lives of the Pyncheon family. The family are also
cursed with poor fortune ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When first built the house is described as great house (p. 8), its whole visible exterior was ornamented
with quaint figures, conceived in the grotesqueness of a Gothic fancy. (p. 8) Here the house is grand
and corresponds with the public image of Colonel Pyncheon and the Pyncheon name. However, when
describing the current state of the house, the narrator notes that there was a carpet on the floor,
originally or rich texture, but so worn and faded in these latter years that its once brilliant figure had
quite vanished into one indistinguishable hue. (p. 19) The description of the house again corresponds
with the state of the Pyncheon family at the time a majority of the novel is set. They are low on
fortune and have decreased in social status. Like the house, the family have become indistinguishable
from their former glory. Colonel Pyncheon originally claimed the land that had once belonged to
Maule in order to increase his social status and power within the Puritan community. Land ownership
is a very prominent part of America s identity. A theory that was widely believed by American
colonialist was Manifest Destiny. This is the belief that it is the God given right of colonialist to
expand across America (Pratt, 1927). Gilman notes that throughout the whole history of civilization
land has been seen as primarily a source of power. (1984) Pyncheon already has a sizable plot of land
in the community bust still strives to absorber Maule s land. When first built, The House of the Seven
Gables symbolised the prestige of the Pyncheon name. However, that name no longer holds the same
meaning as it did in Colonel Pyncheon s time. Blotting writes that with another steeple edifice the
isolated house or mansion there is a similar conjunction of family line, social status and physical
property. Conjuring ideas of home and prison, protection and

Case Studies Of Temporary Shelters
Case Studies of Temporary Shelters: This research on case studies synthesizes three existing
temporary or transitional structures. These temporary structures are Global Village Shelters, Butterfly
Houses, and Collapsible Woven shelter. This case studies analysis ways structurally sound shelters
have been developed for migratory workers and homeless people in different geographical parts of the
world. Some of the ideas have been implemented in the USA, Thailand, and Jordan. This research
examines an orphanage shelter designed to both serve the purpose of a shelter and help children have

temporary shelters for the homeless population. Global Village Shelter In 2004, Weyerhauser, a paper

Bounty hunter Levi Owens glared at the wanted poster one last time. He folded the tattered notice and

Kurt Vonnegut’s Slaughterhouse-Five -- A Great American Novel
For a novel to be considered a Great American Novel, it must contain a theme that is uniquely
American, a hero that is the essence of a great American, or relevance to the American people. Others
argue, however, that the Great American Novel may never exist. They say that America and her image
are constantly changing and therefore, there will never be a novel that can represent the country in its
entirety. In his novel, Slaughterhouse Five, Kurt Vonnegut writes about war and its destructiveness.
Vonnegut tells the story of Billy Pilgrim, an unlikely hero, mentally scarred by World War Two. Kurt

To transform a good company to great company is all manages dream, but only few of them make it.
To find out the core factors which lead to a good company became a great company is very difficult,
because in different era, different industry companies face different opportunities and threats. To begin
the research for the Good to Great study, Jim Collins and his research team searched for companies
that: performed at or below the general stock market for at least fifteen years; then at a transition point
began to pull away from the competition, and sustained returns of at least 3 times the general market

In the same time, Wells Fargo recruited talented people into the company without any specific job,
because the CEO believed that these smart people could help company to face and deal with the future

banking deregulation arrived. Moreover, Wells Fargo went three times higher than general stock
market which the banking fell 59 percent behind. CEO of Wells Fargo, Dick Cooley a level 5 leader,
understand three simple truths. First, if you begin with who, rather than what, you can more easily

best results, and right people don t need to be tightly managed, they know what they should or should

go, whatever how hard to motivate and manage them. Right people are the most important asset in the
company. Right people can turn a nearly bankruptcy company to Fortune 500 company.
The third reason why good to great companies outperform, is they do not cover up the bad news
(confront the brutal facts). Nobody likes to hear the bad news, but we have to facing it and take

Online Shopping Problems
Introduction
There is no doubt that traditional brick and mortar retailers like us have seen a decline in sales since
the increased growth of e commerce. After researching the topic at hand, I have identified the issues
we face, and devised several solutions to aid us in our competition with online retailers.
Issues Sears Faces
The problem is, online retail is becoming the go to for convenience and customer service while brick
and mortar stores are struggling with sales growth. This problem is not only a Sears s exclusive
problem, but a shift in the way customers are shopping today. In order to further examine this issue, I
have first compared how other large brick and mortar retailers are doing in their battles with Amazon.
Walmart, for example, has seen incredibly slow growth while Amazon, is growing on an exponential
level. According to a 2014 article by fool.com, Walmart s five year projected annual earnings growth
rate was only about 7.9% while Amazon s was 46.6% (Duggan, 2014).
Consumers are turning to online retailers for cheaper prices, a more convenient shopping experience,
fast delivery, and a new technologically advanced way to shop. Traditional retailers are in a price
battle with stores like amazon that offer the same or similar products cheaper online. Many times
customers will even go to brick and mortar stores just to see the product in person before shopping for
better deals online. Shopping online has taken customers from brick and mortar stores

Without even a complete family unit to draw strength from, King remembers the inordinate amount of

In the long run, the transport was full and the driver saw that few white travelers were remaining in
the path. He halted the transport and moved the sign isolating the two segments back one column and
requested that four dark travelers surrender their seats. Three agreed, however Rosa declined and
stayed situated. The driver requested, Why not stand up? to which Rosa answered, I don t think I

her refusal wasn t on the grounds that she was physically drained, yet that she was worn out on giving

the Montgomery City Code. She was taken to police base camp, where, soon thereafter, she was

Code Of Conduct, Ssts And Other Regulations
1. Introduction
Tax professionals have to adhere to the rules set by the Code of Conduct, SSTS and other regulations.
In order to perform their job appropriately they have to be honest, objective, and remain conflict free
while working with clients. The tax professional assists their client as a guide, but the ultimate
responsibility of accuracy relies on the taxpayer. The taxpayer or tax paying entity uses their tax
preparer for guidance since they are aware of tax rules and regulations. The purpose of the tax return
that is filed yearly for each tax payer or tax paying entity serves the purpose of being a summary of
activity through the year for the government to access what portion of the activity spending is owed to
the government. If the client is wealthy or an extremely large entity, preparing their tax return can then
become an extremely complex job which will require the tax preparer to refer to the several rules and
regulations for proper filing.
2. Tax Ethics and Professionals Standards
The ethical standards to be followed by CPAs in tax practice require them to know about applicable
rules of the AICPA, IRS, and other statutory and regulatory rules. According to aicpa.org, CPA tax
practitioners are subject to many different standards and ethics rules, including AICPA Code of
Professional Conduct (the AICPA Code), AICPA Statements on Standards for Tax Services (the
Standards), Treasury Circular 230, Regulations Governing Practice Before the Internal Revenue

Pyramid Discipleship Essay
Pyramid Discipleship Discipleship in a mega church
One of the hardest things to do when you are in a mega church is creating a community of genuine
discipleship and not just a Sunday Church . It can seem like a giant task to take on when looked at
head first because creating personal relationships with a thousand or more people is a lot of
relationships, but there are ways to do it, and following the mold of pyramid discipleship can be very
effective.
So what is it?
Pyramid discipleship is a system set up in a way to where one person will only take on 5 to 10 (at the
very most) people at a time to disciple. And as they continue in their discipling there will be others
above them to disciple them as they go. When you actually look at this inside of the church it becomes
clearer and easier to understand. At the top of the pyramid would be the senior pastor, a maybe some
of the elders or other staff members. Moving down the pyramid would be the staff that would oversee
the discipleship program. Weather this be one or two people, this is where the discipleship starts.
These leaders will be discipled by the elders or senior pastor, this is including not only questions about
the program but also walking with them through their spiritual life, and life in ... Show more content

With what kind of hearts? Part of what we are giving to our leaders is the ongoing discipleship they
will have. This is the same thing our leaders are giving to their disciples. Along with that we will hold
different fellowship nights to give our leaders a night of rest and fun as they can come and eat and talk
to the other leaders. This will also be available for the leaders to hold for their own groups. We want
true, genuine, Christ like hearts of love for this to be done at all. If it does not stem from love, then it
is nothing we want to promote. From the beginning we will push the idea of having a loving heart and
always leading from that same

Real Textile and Domestic Wastewater Treatment by Novel...
The microbial fuel cell (MFC) is an upsurging technology in the field of bio energy generation along
with wastewater treatment. The microbial fuel cell generates energy with the help of microbes that
makes it green future source of energy. In MFC, anaerobic microbes degrade organic matter and
produce hydrogen ions (H+) and electrons (e ) at the anode. H+ ion diffuses through the proton
exchange membrane (PEM); and e are transported through an electrode via an external circuit to the
cathode. At a cathode, e and H+ ions combine with oxygen to form water (H2O), this results in power
generation [1]. MFC has limited open circuit voltage (OCV) of 1.14 V because of the standard redox
potential of NADH/ NAD+ and O2/H2O of 0.32 V and +0.82 V ... Show more content on

Generally treatment processes are classified as physical, chemical or biological. Physical treatment
process includes physical extraction of dyes by adsorption [8], membrane filtration [9] and ion
exchange. However, extracted dyes not be recovered, high cost and yet requirement of another process
to degrade dyes makes these processes unsustainable. Chemical methods as Chemical Oxidation [10],
Ozonization [11] and Electrochemical degradations are uneconomical and unfavorable for the
environment. Biological methods are based on anaerobiotic or aerobiotic, microbial culture. But
purely anaerobic digestion of azo dye produces carcinogenic aromatic amine and aerobic deterioration
alone is not able to degrade all dyes, also result in high amounts of sludge [12 14]. Sequential
application of anaerobic followed by aerobic degradation has been providing a solution with the
advantage of economic, reliable and ecological benefits [15,16].
Real textile wastewater (RTW) has low biological oxygen demand (BOD) to the chemical oxygen
demand (COD) ratio, which implies chemical treatment is required. RTW also has greater color
appearance; high total dissolved solid (TDS), suspended solids (SS), high temperature and variable pH
(from 5 to 9) depending on dye. On the other hand, domestic wastewater has almost neutral pH, high
BOD, normal temperature and high volume as well. Gingell and Walker [17] proposed two step
mechanism for degradation of azo dyes Step 1 is the

Rebecca By Daphne Du Maurier
Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier is a masterful mystery romance novel originally published in 1938.
The story centers around the marriage of a young woman to Maxim de Winter, a brooding widower
caught in the shadow of his deceased wife, Rebecca. Throughout the novel, we embark on a journey of
self discovery from the vantage point of the new Mrs. de Winter. Upon arrival at the expansive estate
of her new husband, Manderley, Mrs. de Winter finds the idealistic life she d hoped to live far from
the stark reality of her new world. Through rising tensions, internal conflicts, and the self imposed
psychological stress, we watch as Mrs. de Winter transforms from an insecure young girl into a
woman with a quiet, steadying strength.

For instance, Maxim s growing distance reinforces her belief; he regrets marrying her and is still in
love with Rebecca.
Mrs. Danvers, in addition, consistently reminds Mrs. de Winter of Rebecca s preferences adding to a
growing sense of inferiority. Insecurities and self doubt already present in the new Mrs. de Winter
were an underlying part of her personality. Mrs. Van Hopper, her previous employer, would employ
me as bait to draw her prey (du Maurier. 12). Mrs. Van Hopper s treatment of her lead to an
undiagnosed case of high anxiety; the constant and unsubstantiated worry that causes significant
distress and interferes with daily life, within the young Mrs. de Winter exasperating the intensity of
Manderley (adaa.org).
Readers are able to see in intense detail the mental distress of the main character because of the author
s use of homodiegetic narration; where the narrator is talking to the readers or narrates from within the
story world (Scott 78). The story is both from the vantage point of Mrs. de Winter as well as told by
her. The fixed focalisation forces the reader to feel on her side in the events of the story. The
impressions of the readers are a reflection of how the main character views her person. Daphne du
Maurier uses a brilliantly insidious device to accomplish this; she never gives the main character a
name.
Not once in the entirety of the prose is the

Tati 3 Worlds
Q1: What are the specificities of the three worlds displayed in the film? In the film, there were three
worlds displayed all separate from each other but still holding the same image for something
happening in France at the time. The new city showed signs of the advancing world the Tati had lived
in during the 1950 s. In the 1950 s France was recovering from war efforts from WWII. The new
world shows how France was rebuilding many structures and factories, and how these things were not
in common of what the old world was. Many of the streets had also been in non contemporary grid

In the new world, everything was mostly gray. If there was color, it was very vibrant and centralized to
a specific location. For example, the car showed different colors of being pink and green. The old
world on the other hand had tons of colors. Everything was colorful, very little gray was around, and it
all just seemed more interesting to the viewer. This various range of colors had to do with the idea that
Tati was hinting that even though the new world has tons of different and new technologies, there was
not as much culture within it. The old world had lively colors, showing how different the two worlds
really were. In fact, Tati might have been showing how to new world is not all it s cracked up to be as
compared to the old world. Tati was trying to show that people should just stick to the old world that
had much more culture than the new

Oxidation Of Benzoin To Benzil
This experiment performed the second step in a multistep synthesis. The reaction carried out was an
oxidation of benzoin to benzil using a recyclable copper catalyst, cupric acetate. The cupric acetate
acted as an electron acceptor in a redox type reaction. The benzoin donated an electron to cupric
acetate and formed the Cu+ ion while becoming a benzoin radical cation. The benzoin radical cation
lost a hydrogen to the Cu+ ion forming acetic acid. Another redox cycle between Cu2+ and the
benzoin radical took place, forming a second Cu+ ion and the benzoin cation lost a proton to another
acetate ion to form the product benzil. The benzoin was oxidize to benzil as well as the Cu+ ion was
oxidized to Cu2+ using the ammonium nitrate, which was

Students Hacked Corona Del Mar High School to Change...
Hacking has become a common trend all over the world. The act has not only become more and more

Even though the necessary measures have been taken so ensure that the culprits are punished and that
the system is upgraded to a more secure state. The school has said that there may be many people who
are involved or have been involved in the habit of cheating. The administration then explained that
due to the increase use of technology, there is a risk that is always associated with it.
The school has taken upon to conduct fingerprinting and tracking the students so as to uncover the
truth behind the saga. Employing the use of identification cards and monitoring the general activities
when the students are out of school, are some of the techniques that the school has decided to adopt in
tracking.
This security is essential since the students are well equipped to bypass the system. This is evident in
the scenario that unfolded when the LA students were provided with iPads and within a short time
they had unlocked them.
According to the school, very valuable information such as upcoming examinations and grading
methods are at risk of being hacked.

  • 2. Career Education And Business Management As technology continues to advance, it is becoming more important for organizations to frequently train their employees. This study will combine adult and career education and business management disciplines to define and answer this research question, What is the most effective way to train newly employed or employed adult learners new job skills or tasks within an organization? Combining my two disciplines, adult and career education and business management, creates a job for people who are professional trainers for businesses or organizations. These professional trainers are specialized in teaching newly employed or employed people or groups new skills and tasks within a specific department in an organization. Organizations normally hire specialized trainers, but for smaller training, they will use a manager or supervisor as trainers, which save them time and money. For trainers to determine the most effective methods, they first need to understand how adults learn and why they learn differently than younger students. When trainers understand how adults learn, they will be able to determine what learning styles should be used for each individual trainee, allowing them to learn new information and skills efficiently. Once the trainer knows how adults learn and they different learning styles, he or she will be able to determine the most effective method to use for training an employee or employees for each specific department within an organization. Exploring Personal Choices in Toni Morrison s Beloved Essay Exploring Personal Choices in Toni Morrison s Beloved At the climax of her book Beloved, Toni Morrison uses strong imagery to examine the mind of a woman who is thinking of killing her own children. She writes, Because the truth was simple, not a long drawn out record of flowered shifts, tree cages, selfishness, ankle ropes and wells. Simple: she was squatting in the garden and when she saw them coming and recognized schoolteacher s hat, she heard wings. Little hummingbirds stuck their needle beaks right through her headcloth into her hair and beat their wings. And if she thought anything, it was No. Nono. Nonono. Simple. She just flew. One example of a character who is succesful in avoiding the path of common sense is Sixo, one of the other slaves on the plantation that Sethe had run away from. He carries on relations with the Thirty Mile woman , a girl slave on another plantation. As her name implies, he has to travel thirty miles (during the night) to see her. One meeting place he tries to use is an Indian holy spot; the place s presence gives him permission to use it. In the end, he has had sex with her the night before he is killed by slave hunters (226). Shortly before that time, he refused to speak English any more. At the end of the novel, Paul D tries to use Sixo s words as a way to describe what he wishes his relationship with Sethe would be (state to convey?): She is a friend of my mind. She gather me, man. The pieces I am, she gather them and give them back to me in all the right order. It s good, you know, when you got a woman who is a friend of your mind. • 4. The Holy Spirit Is God The Holy Spirit is God Himself. He is a person that we can have a personal relationship with. Also, the Holy Spirit is the one that God gave to us as a guide, to direct and teach us in living a Holy life (King James Version, John 14:16). The Holy Spirit is the voice inside of us that tells us when something is not right with the choices that we have made. The voice inside of us comes from God, who loves and cares enough to show us our error that we have made. Also, the Holy Spirit is part of the Trinity; where God transformed into three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. When a person is born again, they believe and receive Jesus Christ (John 1:12 13), God comes through people s life through the Holy Spirit (1Cor.3:16). The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Holy Spirit also acts in non believers as well. The Holy Spirit makes people feel guilty about the things that they have done and helps them to ask for God forgiveness on their sin. (John 16:8 11). The Holy Spirit pulls on our hearts and minds asking us to repent and turn to God for forgiveness and a new life. When the Apostle Paul was planting church in his missionary journey, he preached lots about the duty of the Holy Spirit, and the role that he plays in our lives for example in Roman 8:1 8. In view of this scripture, there is a very distinct difference between the human flesh and the Holy Spirit. The Apostle Paul said that as long we become Christian, the Spirit of Jesus Christ has set us free from the worldly law of sin. Whatever the flesh could not do Jesus Christ has come to paid it all and to set us free from condemnation. What is the Activity of the Holy Spirit? The Bible talks about several roles that the Holy Spirit plays in the lives of people today. The first thing that the Holy Spirit does is he provides conviction of sin to all people. John 16:8 said, And when he comes, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment . Also, the Holy Spirit works in several ways for many believers that follow Christ. One of the roles that He works is to serve as a comforter and a helper in our daily life. In John 14:16 17 this means that there is someone that is helping us and guiding us and encouraging us during difficult time of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Service Design And Physical Setting Glasgow s Riverside Museum, home to over 3,000 items, has been hailed excellent , terrific and fab by TripAdvisor reviewers (TripAdvisor, 2014). The museum offers visitors a unique experience, where they can enjoy views of the River Clyde and the Tall Ship while they immerse themselves in learning about Glasgow s historical past. The museum offers a unique service experience, where the use of technology in order to enhance the visitor s experience is prevalent. In certain areas, such as Main Street, a replica of a Glasgow street the late 19th and early 20th century, the museum makes use of sound and lighting effects to create a particular ambience, whereas in other areas there is a distinct lack thereof. A visit to the museum to experience the service encounter first hand allows a critical evaluation of the encounter in terms of the service design and physical setting. One useful way to look at service design is by use of the servuction model (Hoffman and Bateson, 2010, p.9). • 6. Powerade Case Study Powerade is a sports energy drink manufactured by Coca Cola. It has been around since 1988 and was intended to compete with Gatorade in the sports drink industry. After being introduced, it successfully became the official sports drink for the Olympics of that year. Their product line consists of only beverages and lacks complementary goods like protein bars or energizing snacks. Their two specific products is the Powerade ION4 and Powerade ZERO. ZERO is a healthy alternative for consumers in which the product has zero calories in the beverage. It is not typically recommended for intense heavy training. Instead they have the ION4 as a substitute for those who train hard. Despite the differences, both products include the electrolytes needed to replace the ones lost to respiration and sweating during workouts. In terms of this product s current lifecycle, many arguments could definitely be made for its status. Since there is only two major giants or manufacturers in the sports drink industry, I would consider Powerade to be in a late maturity stage of their product life cycle. It is obviously behind Gatorade in terms of sales. I would argue late maturity because of the product s longevity on the market. They have lowered their costs over the years and in return this means lowered profits, but this strategy allows them to compete. Gatorade is the premium on the market and their sales are still up. Some stockmen claim that the removal of prairie dogs has had some direct association with the undesirable spread of brush. This has had detrimental effects on the livestock industry which far outweighs the damage prairie dogs might do. Each of these cells contains the blueprints of our bodies, which are scientifically known as chromosomes, genes, and DNA. The purpose of this paper is to inform people about the process of mitosis, and to teach people about the function of chromosomes, genes and DNA, and the relation between one another. The cell is just going about its normal business and getting ready for another cell division that is soon to come. The process of mitosis is a fascinating process which occurs when a cell needs to split into two child cells. The process happens all the time as we grow, get injured, and need cells to repair our body, or just to replace cells that have died. Chromosomes, genes, and DNA are all connected. Then we shift our focus on compressed caching which is the technique that tries to decrease paging request from secondary storage. We know that there is a big performance gap in accessing the primary memory (RAM) and secondary storage (Disk). The Compressed caching technique intercepts the pages to be swapped out, compresses them and stores them in pool allocated in RAM. Hence it tries to fill the performance gap by adding new level to virtual memory hierarchy. This paper analyze the performance of virtual memory compression. Further to avoid various categories of cache misses we discuss different types of cache technique to achieve higher performance. Lastly we discuss few open and challenging issues faced in various cache optimization techniques. Keywords Cache mapping technique, Cache optimization, Virtual Memory, Zswap, Zbud , LZO, Frontwrap I. It is aimed to bridge the gap between the fastest processor to the slowest memory components at a reasonable cost. It maintains the locality of information and support the reduction of average access time. The address mapping converts physical address to the cache address. • 24. Wind, Earthquake And Its Effect On The Earthquake Essay Unlike wind, earthquake is a different phenomenon which generates a ground motion. The intensity or acceleration of the earthquake depends upon the magnitude and location of its epicenter. The seismic waves caused by the earthquake cause inertial forces in the building. The inertial forces are created when an outside force tries to move a body in rest which happens in this case as seismic waves tries the move the building in rest. We all know that when a building is subjected to inertial forces it should obey the newton s second law of motion. F=M.a (3) Where F is inertial force and M denotes mass of building and a is the acceleration with which the building is moved due to seismic activity. Duration, velocity and displacement: From the newton s second law, it is evident that acceleration is a key factor in determining the forces on a building. But there is one more criteria that we have to look into is the duration of the earthquake. Earthquake that has moderate acceleration, sustained over time, can cause much more damage to buildings than a single much larger peak. It weakens the building structure and reduces its durability. The strong motion duration is often termed as bracketed duration (Arnold 2013). This is the shaking duration above a certain threshold acceleration value, which is 0.05g, and is defined as the time between the first and last peaks of motion that exceeds this threshold value (Arnold 2013). • 30. Comparing The Haunted House In The Fall Of The House Of... A haunted house, or a house in which all is not as it seems, is a common trope of Gothic literature. This is due to the familiar nature of the home being distorted into something wholly uncanny. In The Fall of the House of Usher the past sin of the Usher family results in the ultimate demise of, not only the house, but also the Usher bloodline. The house in Poe s tale is in a state of severe decay. This is similar to the residents of the house who are suffering from a hereditary illness that is inflicted upon the Usher family. Similarly, in The House of The Seven Gables, a once magnificent house has become a ruin of its former self due to a curse that affects the lives of the Pyncheon family. When first built the house is described as great house (p. 8), its whole visible exterior was ornamented with quaint figures, conceived in the grotesqueness of a Gothic fancy. (p. 8) Here the house is grand and corresponds with the public image of Colonel Pyncheon and the Pyncheon name. However, when describing the current state of the house, the narrator notes that there was a carpet on the floor, originally or rich texture, but so worn and faded in these latter years that its once brilliant figure had quite vanished into one indistinguishable hue. (p. 19) The description of the house again corresponds with the state of the Pyncheon family at the time a majority of the novel is set. They are low on fortune and have decreased in social status. Like the house, the family have become indistinguishable from their former glory. Colonel Pyncheon originally claimed the land that had once belonged to Maule in order to increase his social status and power within the Puritan community. Land ownership is a very prominent part of America s identity. A theory that was widely believed by American colonialist was Manifest Destiny. This is the belief that it is the God given right of colonialist to expand across America (Pratt, 1927). Gilman notes that throughout the whole history of civilization land has been seen as primarily a source of power. (1984) Pyncheon already has a sizable plot of land in the community bust still strives to absorber Maule s land. When first built, The House of the Seven Gables symbolised the prestige of the Pyncheon name. However, that name no longer holds the same meaning as it did in Colonel Pyncheon s time. After researching the topic at hand, I have identified the issues we face, and devised several solutions to aid us in our competition with online retailers. Issues Sears Faces The problem is, online retail is becoming the go to for convenience and customer service while brick and mortar stores are struggling with sales growth. This problem is not only a Sears s exclusive problem, but a shift in the way customers are shopping today. In order to further examine this issue, I have first compared how other large brick and mortar retailers are doing in their battles with Amazon. Walmart, for example, has seen incredibly slow growth while Amazon, is growing on an exponential level. According to a 2014 article by fool.com, Walmart s five year projected annual earnings growth rate was only about 7.9% while Amazon s was 46.6% (Duggan, 2014). Consumers are turning to online retailers for cheaper prices, a more convenient shopping experience, fast delivery, and a new technologically advanced way to shop. Traditional retailers are in a price battle with stores like amazon that offer the same or similar products cheaper online. The reaction carried out was an oxidation of benzoin to benzil using a recyclable copper catalyst, cupric acetate. The cupric acetate acted as an electron acceptor in a redox type reaction. The benzoin donated an electron to cupric acetate and formed the Cu+ ion while becoming a benzoin radical cation. The benzoin radical cation lost a hydrogen to the Cu+ ion forming acetic acid. Another redox cycle between Cu2+ and the benzoin radical took place, forming a second Cu+ ion and the benzoin cation lost a proton to another acetate ion to form the product benzil. The benzoin was oxidize to benzil as well as the Cu+ ion was oxidized to Cu2+ using the ammonium nitrate, which was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
