Citizen science is the collaboration of the scientific community directing volunteers in data
collection efforts. In a citizen science program the scientist maintains a leadership position and
directs all actions according to the scientific need. Citizen science relies on the individual s, or
groups, motivation to perform the required tasks. Citizen science programs are generally focused
around data gathering. The volunteers must be trained in sound scientific practices in order to
ensure the highest quality data possible. These programs allow for the scientific community to
harvest larger quantities of data and allow the volunteers to become active members in the scientific
community.
Citizen science is not a new concept. There have been historic instances of large groups of
volunteers participating in scientific data collection, such as the National Audubon Society annual
Christmas bird count in 1900 (Bonney, Cooper, Dickinson, Kelling, Phillips, Rosenberg, Shirk,
2009, p. 977). The Cornell Lab of Ornithology has a citizen science program, which has been in
operation since 1966. Each year over 200,000 citizen scientists contribute to ongoing research each
year. Over 60 research papers, since 1997, have been published, using results derived from data
received from participants in various programs (Cornell Lab of Ornithology, 2014).

from class to class. While driving to destinations, beats from my rap music are always booming
through my sound system in the car. Most teenagers find it normal to listen to a booming beat

the offensiveness often related to the lyrics or the loudness of the beats. Rap music has been a
commonly known genre of music since the nineteen seventies and became popular as gangster

The Religious Vows In The Prologue of The Canterbury Tales, Geoffrey Chaucer has some
religious characters who break the vows they pledge for, to get a place in the Church. Many
characters in the story seem to have an awkward characteristic that the writer did not notice. Why
do the religious characters break the vow? How do they break it? For example, the monk was a
primary part of the church, but as you keep reading, the characters start to change in ways you
could never imagine. Some character do not interact with each other depending upon their social
class level. The vows that the religious characters break are the Vow of Poverty, the Vow of
Chastity, the Vow of Obedience, and the Vow of Stability. The vow that is probably the most

The Negative Effects of American Regime Change Operations Since its inception, the United States
has tried to expand its global reach. The US has lead many to believe that through its attempts, the

The operation began with Russian invading Afghanistan in 1979 in fears that the Middle Eastern
nation would align itself with the US. As fear of Communism continued to spread through the US
where they wishedd to bog Russia down in a costly war thereby turning Afghanistan into their
Vietnam . In an operation called Operation Cyclone , the CIA sent money and weapons to Afghan
freedom fighters called Mujahideen (The Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan and the U.S. Response,
1978 1980). However, all of the money and weapons went to Pakistan who would then decide
which Afghan groups would receive the aid. No Americans were allowed to enter Pakistan
which was ruled by military dictator Zia al Huq whose main goals were building nuclear
weapons and creating an Islamic state. During the 1980s, America gave $6 billion in aid to
Pakistan. Between 1981 and 1987, the US gave $1.3 billion to Mujahideen (The Soviet Invasion
of Afghanistan and the U.S. Response, 1978 1980), all of which was matched by Saudi Arabia.
Similarly to the coup in Iran, the regime change operation of Afghanistan also created negative
effects. For example, in 1980 the US placed a grain embargo on Russia which increased tensions
