Essay about George Babbitt of Sinclair Lewis Babbitt
George Babbitt: Image of a Presbyterian
In Babbitt, Sinclair Lewis portrays religion as a corrupt business. In fact, he emphasizes this by
focusing on his main character George Babbitt. George Babbitt is characterized as a businessman in
Zenith. He is a man preoccupied about his reputation and his image before the main leaders of the
town he lives in. Lewis creates a hypocritical figure for Babbitt through his reasons for being a
Presbyterian. He says that if you were to question Babbitt about his religion he would say, My religion
is to serve my fellow men, to honor my brother as myself, and to do my bit to make life happier for
one and for all (199). Of course, if you heard this from Babbitt you would ... Show more content on

His participation within his religious denomination was his stepping stool. Chum Frink and
Mr.Eathorne accepted Babbitt because of his proposals for the Sunday School. He wanted to divide
the school into four armies with militaristic characteristics. This would help the children feel as if they
were doing something worthy. Secondly, he insisted on improvement of the advertising committee
(Lewis 207). This goes to show you how businesslike the Sunday School was becoming. Babbitt was
only thinking of business morals and forgetting the religious morals.
Lewis also draws an image of George Babbitt s sanctimoniousness through his idea of Hell. We see
Babbitt s hypocrisy when he says, if one was a Bad Man, that is, if he murdered or committed
burglary or used cocaine or had mistresses or sold non existent real estate, he would be punished
(199). Notice how everything Babbitt mentions at the time is something he has not done, however as
he continues to live his life he eventually pulls a crooked real estate deal and begins to cheat on his
wife, Myra. Babbitt s flirtatious character is seen when he dates several women and is careless
because of his wife s absence. Lewis practically points out Babbitt s hypocrisy through his failure to
comply with his own criteria of who does and who does not go to Hell.

The Impact Of Cultural Differences On Project Management...
Executive Summary
The focus of this research paper is to demonstrate the need for project management, identify the
current and future trends within project management around the world, and discuss the effects of
cultural differences on project management. Project management was first used in civil engineering
and architecture projects but it soon spread to other industries such as the automobile and
communication industries. After technological advancements, such as improvements in computer
mainframes and softwares, project management softwares emerged to help manage complex projects.
These programs along with locating and retaining the right type of talent within an organization
becomes a crucial part of an organization s structure and ultimately their success. Organizations must
be able to assign the right people, with the right technical and soft skills, to the right project.
Certification programs and in house trainings are now available to help improve project managers
technical skills, communication skills, and other soft skills needed to be effective/successful. There
has also been an increased interest within organizations to reach a higher level of project management
maturity. As businesses continue to expand and new opportunities in the market trigger the emerging
of new companies, there is an increasing demand for project managers nationally and globally. Project
management roles are expected to increase up to 28.1 million between 2010 and 2020. Utilizing

Why Did The Us Invade South Korea
On 25 June 1950, North Korean troops poured across the 38th parallel of the Korean peninsula, to
invade South Korea. Soon, a U.S. led United Nations force intervened on behalf South Korea, which
prompted The Peoples Republic of China, and to a lesser extent the Soviet Union, to intervene on
behalf of North Korea. What followed was three years of bloody combat, until an armistice was signed
on 27 July 1953. In the minds of most people, that was the end of it. The Korean conflict was soon
overshadowed by other events, such as the Cuban Missile Crisis, the assassination of President John F.
Kennedy and the Vietnam War. The television show, M*A*S*H, which ran for eleven years between
1972 and 1983, was set in Korea, during the three years ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1910, Japan officially annexed Korea. For the next thirty five years, Korea was part of the Empire
of Japan. In the final days of World War II, The United States military dropped atomic bombs on the
Japanese cities of Hiroshima, on 6 August 1945 and Nagasaki, on 9 August 1945. Also, on 9 August,
as agreed at the Yalta Conference, The Soviet Union declared war on Japan and invaded Manchuria
and Korea. On 14 August 1945, Japan announced that it would surrender. That evening, U.S. Army
Colonel Dean Rusk and Colonel Charles Tic Bonesteel were ordered to identify a dividing line
between American and Soviet Zones of occupation, on the Korean peninsula. Given only a matter of
hours and no guidance, the colonels turned to an old National Geographic map of Korea. They decided
that the capital should be in the American sector. Thus, they searched for a convenient dividing line
north of Seoul. As there was no convenient geographic division, the thirty eighth parallel was chosen.
The split was intended to be temporary, with reunification and national elections scheduled for 1948.
However, as the cold war intensified, the United States and the Soviet Union established governments
in South and North Korea respectively. On 15 August 1948, The South Korean Republic of Korea
(ROK) was formally established. The anti communist leader, Syngman Rhee was installed as the first
president and immediately began purging South Korea of communists. In response, the Soviets
established the Democratic People s Republic of Korea (North Korea,) on 9 September 1948, with
former guerrilla fighter and Soviet Red Army major, Kim Il sung as

Effects Of Negative Tweets During The 2011-2012 Primary...
This article touches on the effects of negative tweets during the 2011 2012 primary elections. The
author assumes that through research she would discover that candidates that had fewer votes would
be more inclined to take part in negative tweeting behaviors in regards to their fellow competitors
during the election. The tweets that would be posted would be negative towards the frontrunner s
charter versus stances on issues if candidates felt the same way on an issue. These assumptions raised
many questions to research as well. Moody, Cohen, and Fournon (2013) raised the first question of
What types of messages did candidates disseminate utilizing tweets during the 2011 12 Presidential
Primaries (p. 3). The next question brought up by Moody, Cohen, and Fournon (2013) was, Were
runner up candidates more likely than front runners to include a negative tone in their tweets (p. 3).
Then the third question stated by Moody, Cohen and Fournon (2013) was, Were runner up candidates
more likely than front runners to attack their opponents in their tweets (p. 3) Finally, the fourth and
final question raised by Moody, Cohen, and Fournon (2013) stated, What interactive units did
politicians use within their tweets. To what type of content did they link? What was the tone of
candidate hashtags (p. 3).

Islam And The Common Cause Of Unity
In the religion of Islam, Muslims believe in the common cause of unity. United under one creed that is
the first pillar of Islam and the primary and absolute faith that one should devote to. It is the Shahada,
which says, I believe in no gods but Allah and Muhammad (PBUH) is the messenger of Allah , but
even though this is the common creed among all Muslims around the world, many chose to divide
themselves and separated themselves under a slightly different and innovated creed.
Since the Prophethood of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), Islam started to embed into the lives of the
people of Arabia and as the number of people taking Shahada started to grow, they followed and
trailed behind the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Soon After the demise of Prophet
Muhammad (PBUH) in the 7th century the divide started to arise inside the Muslim communities in
the land of Arabia when disagreements over the successor to the Prophet Muhammad arose.
The Sunnis maintain to believe that there was going to be a formal selection of who the Prophet s
successor or Caliph was going to be because according to Quran that is the rightful way of selection
that includes the consensus of the majority votes. But the admirers of Ali(RA), who was the son in law
of the Prophet Muhammad, protested and believed that the Prophet(PBUH) had chosen His son in law
to be His rightful successor. According to the Shia Muslims, they believe Prophet Muhammad(PBUH)
designated Imam Ali(RA) as His successor by Allah s

An Analysis Of Hoch s Photomontage s Spirit Of Our Time
Hoch s photomontage was one of many collages that criticized the cultural staleness, depravity, and
decaying values of the German state. Through her depiction of German politicians and technology in a
state of chaos and confusion, she was effectively able to convince the German people to reevaluate
their faith in the government and current cultural values. She used the fast advancing technology of
the time (especially mass media) in also advancing her own goals of sardonically criticizing the
failings of the German state as well as pushing for gender equality. The other Berlin Dadaist, Raoul
Hausmann, created the combine, Spirit of Our Time: Mechanical Head, to criticize the German public
s dependence on tools and industry to think and rationalize, stripping away what he perceived made us
human (Crockett, 173). The title, Spirit of Our Time, is a metaphor for the German people s inability
to enact the change and reform needed to rebuild a better Germany after the horrendous world war
(Doherty, 82). The wooden head represents current state of the German people whose extent of
thought and logic can only be experienced by the mechanical tools affixed to the outside of his head.
The tools attached to his head include a ruler and a tape ruler, a pocket watch, a jewelry box
containing a typewriter wheel, a telescopic beaker, and some brass knobs from a camera
(artfactory.com). These objects each have some significance to the thoughts that the wooden head is

on the track. The moral dilemma is, do they allow the trolley to keep straight and crash killing all five
passengers, or do they use the steering wheel to turn, resulting in the death of the worker that is

Love Medicine Analysis
Domestic violence is present across America, but the role it has taken in the lives of Native American
women is most troubling as it can be harder to track. Tribal sovereignty can at times act as a shield for
violence. The independent nature of tribes as nations can impede systems established to prevent
reoccurring actions of violence within a society. However, as domestic violence is largely a result of
societal systems, it is easiest and most thoroughly examined through narratives. Louise Erdrich
provides this in Love Medicine. The multi faceted perspectives provide an analysis of the lives of
Ojibwe people. As a reoccurring presence of Native American life, domestic violence is displayed
with repetition, ready to be examined through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No more are women welcome to be respected shaman, religious leaders: Thus, the primary role of this
education for Indian girls was to inculcate patriarchal norms and desires into Native communities, so
that women would lose their places of leadership in Native communities (Smith, Boarding 90). Marie
demonstrates this when she views her noteworthy accomplishments through the position her husband
has attained (Erdrich 153 154). In an Anglicized society, Marie s accomplishments of raising children
is negligible compared to what her husband can achieve. Marie has internalized this status and cannot
see the value in anything she has done to be proud of. Gordie was raised by a woman who has lost her
sense of accomplishment and might have grown to be blind to the accomplishments of the women
around them. The Anglo s historical belief of gender hierarchy is problematic as negative attitudes
toward women are a stronger indicator for domestic violence than alcohol (Mildorf 29). The gender
roles weren t just limited to social power, but were further expressed through physical dominance.
This was translated by the Native American children s experiences at boarding school, where school
leaders showed dominance through physical abuse in addition to the psychological indoctrination.
Sexual, physical, and emotional violence was rampant. Even when teachers were charged with abuse,

Christian Beliefs After Death
To the well organized mind, death is but the next great adventure, (Rowling 297). Death, while
inevitable, is still a widely debated topic within the world. Do humans get to live another life on the
same Earth or do humans get to live a life someplace else? Where do our souls go? Does the good get
rewarded and the sinful get punished? Diverse religious beliefs and personal experiences have been
the basis for ideas of what happens after death.
Christianity is the most popular religion in the world with it s beliefs contributing to the most widely
known and accepted theory of what happens after death. Although the beliefs under Christianity
differs between Christian groups, majority of Christians believe in the concept of Heaven and Hell. ...

Islam is very similar to Christianity in the sense both hold ideas of Heaven and Hell. However, in
Islamic belief, humans are believed to hold a communication with Islam s Allah, (God in Arabic), with
the source of this communication being at the center of our bodies. After death, humans reside into the
Barzakh realm until Judgement Day. Judgement Day is the day in which Muslims, (those who practice
Islam) are judged according to their action in life. The Barzakh realm acts as a resting place which
consists of both Heaven and Hell, (Williams, Near Death Experiences of Muslims 1). Heaven, of
course, is where Allah rests, and Hell is where Satan rests. A difference between Christianity s Satan
and Islam s Satan is that Islam s Satan wasn t exactly an angel, but a Jinn. Jinns are like angels except
angels from a different world, angels that sin, ( A Scientific Miracle in the Story of Satan 1). Also
according to Muslim belief, Judgement Day also marks the day of resurrection. Resurrection is the act
of getting to live again and no longer be dead. Everyone is resurrected and then judged by Allah.
Islamic faith and Christian faith are quite similar in their ideas of the after life in terms of Heaven and
Hell and for some Christian groups,

The Blood Rushing Effect On Readers, And Dracula By Bram...
Only few stories and novels have the blood rushing effect on readers, and Dracula by Bram Stoker is
one of those novels. This novel utilizes the method of using letters and other documents in order to tell
the story. The application of the epistolary technique in the story Dracula proves to be quite effective
because it does enable the reader to foresee the happenings in the story on a closer and more personal
scale. In this novel, the man who writes the letters in Transylvania experiences a vast amount of
supernatural experiences. Within the first four chapters of Dracula, Jonathan Harker witnesses
supernatural occurrence s such as seeing flickering blue lights, how Jonathan Harker s coachman
magically made the were wolves disappear, and how he cannot see the Count Dracula s reflection in
the mirror. In the novel Dracula, Jonathan Harker tries to overlook these supernatural occurrences
because of Mr. Hawkins interest. However, this reason may not be the most realistic justification in
why Jonathan is persistent in his stay, but rather he is also aware that he is a prisoner. The novel
Dracula also has many other supernatural aspects such as the three women in Count Dracula s house,
and how Count Dracula proceeds down the walls in a lizard like manner. In the novel Dracula, it could
be argued that Jonathan Harker is not a reliable narrator because of the fact that he is the only one in
the book experiencing these occurrences and his mental state is questionable at times. The

Hollywood has always struggled with diversity, that s no surprise. The lack of representation between
women, minorities, and the LGBT community is still an issue that needs to be resolved. Just last year
after the 2016 Oscars the #OscarsSoWhite hashtag went viral due to the all white nominees. It was
clear that the nominations favored more in predominately white actors rather than those of color.
However, the difference this year round is remarkable. The Academy learned their lesson after last

Duck Hunting Essay
Duck hunting is an absolute passion for me and nothing could possibly interrupt this annual event. For
me, sitting out in a duck blind at 5:30 in the morning with the brisk cold air biting at my skin is
something I look forward to each and every year. Even having to break through a layer of thin ice to
make it out to my blind never gets old. The frigid cold on my hands can get unbearable at times, but
the possibility of frostbite is never at the forefront of my thoughts. After all, when the ducks start to
fly, nothing can force me off the lake.
My passion for duck hunting began when I met Bruce, a friend of my dad s who introduced me to the

At exactly 11:54 a.m., we heard the echoing sound of shotguns. Although it wasn t noon, Bruce was
blowing duck calls like they were going out of style. Shots were being fired from almost every
member of our group, and Bruce was dropping a flock of Mallards into our decoys.
After the initial excitement had settled down, the dogs came back with only five retrieved ducks.
Instead of being disappointed, we were amused. You see, we seemed to have hit more air than ducks.
Maybe if we would have shot the clay pigeons a few more times in target practice, we would have
done better.
As opening day progressed, we improved a lot. Our group ended up five short of the 50 daily limit for
the ten of us. At the end of the hunt, we reminisced about the day s events while we cleaned the ducks,
barbecued and laid out our hunting plans for day two.
Day two arrived a lot sooner than we had expected. Since opening day was complete, additional
hunting hours could now begin at sunrise. When we got out to the blind, the ducks were once again
thick in the air. I don t know why, but as I was sitting in the blind, I remembered a quote I had read in
a Field and Streams magazine. The quote was A successful hunt can not be successful without a
successful duck caller. I have never found a quote to be truer. From day two on, it became my motto.
Bruce continued to call the ducks into our decoys

The Core Components Of An Authoritarian Regime
1. The core components of an authoritarian regime are the lack of accessibility for citizens to voice
their opinions, and more importantly, to participate in politics through formal channels (Mintz, Close
and Croci 256 258). Authoritarian regimes also share an absence of government accountability for any
or all decisions due to a wide range of power (Mintz, Close and Croci 256 258). This is in stark
contrast to democratic regimes where government accountability is held with the utmost importance
with the citizens in said democratic country will move into action when their government does not
align or hold true to what they may have previously put forth. Moreover, if a country s leader holds
most of the power over their citizens by the continuous use of coercive measures or other oppressive
tactics by default will only lead to a greater deal of problems. Furthermore, by having the necessary
power to proactively work part and parcel of a political community, a country, thereby grows through
the collective understanding of other citizens concerns as well as from their allowed regular
involvement in government discussions where the end decision can affect the citizens under that
regime. Effectively demonstrating the differences of an authoritarian regime with a democratic one.

I Am A Soldier And A Good Person
The army has taught me so many great things. It taught me how to be a disciplined soldier and a good
person. I was inexperienced of life before I joined the army. Therefore, I was overwhelmed of life
lessons when I came to basic training. However, I learned the seven army values which were loyalty,
duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage; I experienced every value
throughout my training process. They help me to discipline myself to be a good soldier and a good
person. The value that I honored most was integrity. I was taught that integrity was doing what s right,
legally and morally. However, throughout my training experience, I understand integrity as fearless, to
tell the truth, responsible for your own action, and hardworking.
Integrity means the courage, to tell the truth. In the beginning of my training process, I was told to
study the seven army values by heart. I didn t understand why my drill sergeants made such a big deal
about those values. The seven words were easy to remember, and we all knew the meaning of them.
However, I changed my mind when I witness Lopez s situation. Lopez ate a Twister bar and left its

The Use Of The Armed Forces Is Determined By National...
The use of the armed forces is determined by national military strategy. An important role in the
implementation of the national military strategy in U.S. played airpower. The versatility, speed, range,
high maneuverability, and advanced technology are the distinctive proprieties of operational and
strategic airpower. Over the past 70 years, the entire notion about airpower has met a massive change
in modern warfare. Airpower has evolved into a fighting force with the same rights as other branches
of military power. Even more, the airpower demonstrate during the regional wars since the beginning
1960 that it became an essential element in planning and conducting a military operation in order to
achieve political objective with minimum loss of human life, and with maximum effectiveness. Since
the beginning of the 1960s, the effectiveness of airpower in military operations became
unquestionable because of its ability to deliver reconnaissance data that is essential for preparation of

capability for rapid project of military power and maintaining the combat readiness in any corner of

The Journey Of English Literature

English literature
English literature is hundreds of years old which is full of historical events and creative ideas of
human beings that has lived in the certain eras. English literature comprised of drama and poetry. The
journey of English literature started with the Anglo Saxon or in other words old English which
currently not in use with the people in the society. Remarkable period of English literature was in
queen Elizabeth (1558 1660). English literature plays a major role in every human being today. The
two main eras that contributed to English literature is Victorian era and renaissance era. So today in

The Victorian period formally begins in 1837 and ends in 1901. The Victorian era was from 1832
1901, which was a period of dramatic change in the world over, and especially in England. with the
rapid extension of colonialism through large portions of Africa, Asia, and the West Indies, making
England a prominent center of world power and relocating the perceived center of Western
Civilization from Paris to London. The population of London, exceeded from 2 million to 6.5 million
during the Victorian era. This era evidenced a marked change due to industrialization away from a
way of life based on the ownership of land to a modern urban economy based on trade and
manufacturing.
The church had the significant impact on people s life during the Renaissance. If we want to compare
between the literature during the two periods, Victorian era and Renaissance we can see that the style
of writers by writing their books, novels and theaters were different. In Victorian era Lord Tennyson
(1809 1892) one of the most important and representative voices of this changing age of this era. As
Poet Tennyson until his death, he gave voice to the sentiments of his time in carefully crafted narrative
poetry. While in renaissance era Shakespeare got the prominent place in English

can help understand influences on personality and identity development. Finally, I will look into
further detail at Holmes and Rahe and identity two life events which I can relate to the case study and
the impact it s had on the individual. There has been an ongoing debate within society for a long time
over the influences of nature vs nurture and which one has the more influential factor on behavior and
development. It is a clear fact that Human development and behavior is a complex interrelationship
between nature and nurture. Nature relates to the genes in which we inherit from our parents, it mainly
focuses on genetics and hereditary characteristics, such as eye colour, hair colour, or inheriting
illnesses. Nature can also be referred to as the genotype. Nurture relates to social circumstances, such
as our upbringing and lifestyle. It looks at the interaction between our genotype and environment.
Another term for nurture is known as the phenotype. An example of nature vs nurture can be a person
who has developed a hereditary diabetes from their parents. Although this has been passed on through
the influence of nature we can still use our nurture side to influence change, such as changing diet and
lifestyle habits to counteract the diabetes. Looking further into

Sacraments As A Critical Part Of The Catholic Faith
Sacraments Sacraments are a critical part of the foundation of the catholic faith, but where did the
sacraments originate? Our faith comes from the preachings of Jesus but he never specifically
described the sacraments and how to perform them. There are seven sacraments in the catholic church
and three initiation sacraments, which must be completed in order to be a full member of the church.
These sacraments when completed together allow you t become one in God, but where do the
sacraments draw their power and how?
The first recorded baptism was performed by John the Baptist. John the Baptist is Jesus cousin and
was deemed the preparer for his cousin. John was called to prepare for the coming of the lord and the
kingdom of God as well warn people for their ultimate judgement. John called on his followers to
repent and make ready their hearts for the Lord, this was accomplished through baptism. John would
immerse his follower in the river Jordan; however, in order for the sacrament to have validity multiple
essential things must first be accomplished. John s followers must have complete faith in his message
of the Messiah; they must also recognize that this was a sacrament of repentance that must lead to
change. Confession was also a necessary part of John s baptism and ultimately repentance and the
forgiveness of sin. Through this process, one is able to be renewed in the Lord and be prepared for the
arrival of the Messiah and their final judgement. For by one

Humanity In Raymond Carver s Cathedral
At this point in Raymond Carver s Cathedral, the unnamed narrator s wife keeps going on and on
about Robert her blind friend who she had not seen in a long while instead of mentioning her husband,
which he sees as neglectful. He waits eagerly, and vainly, to hear the topic of himself come up in their
conversation, which, of course, it does not. I think that most of us should be able to relate to this,
because we all have, eagerly and vainly, waited for ourselves to come up in conversation. Whether it
be with a parent, a friend, or even a complete stranger, we all want to talk about ourselves and our
accomplishments. I would have to say that a lot of this so called vanity that the author describes must
be human nature, really as far back

The Issue Of Healthcare Fraud And Abuse
The purpose of this paper is to bring awareness to the issue of healthcare fraud and abuse. I feel that
healthcare fraud and abuse is one of the biggest issues in healthcare. So, this paper will get everyone
to be able to spot fraud before it happens. During, the process you will be able to identify what a
person organization did that was fraud or how they abused healthcare rules. This paper will explain to
you what exactly healthcare fraud and abuse is and how it affects everyone around us. Throughout this
paper, we will examine 3 different articles related the healthcare fraud and abuse and provide a
summary and analyze them. So, what is healthcare fraud and abuse is, you may ask? When talking
about healthcare fraud and abuse, we are talking about 2 major statutes in the healthcare industry,
Physician Self Referral (Stark) Law and AKS (Anti Kickback Statutes). These laws apply to many
practices and procedures within organizations and can be manipulated to benefit an organization
financially. The Physician Self Referral Law prohibits entities from presenting a claim to anyone for
healthcare services for a service not rendered and it also prohibits a physician for creating a referral
for services that are designated but are not rendered. AKS prohibits anyone from offering a kickback,
paying a kickback, or receiving a kickback in return for the delivery of health care services. However,
the AKS encourages referrals based on monetary rewards to the primary source rather than

The Digital Divide In The United States
Outline, Digital Divide
According to Mary H, digital divide is not only the gap between people who have access to
technology and those who do not, it is also the inequality in the kind of access. Though most
Americans access the technology, the difference in the quality of access remains. Yet the Constitution
guarantees the equality of opportunity, the digital divide subsists in the USA because there is
economic disparity among people. Therefore, some social class does not earn the advantages of
technology and the gap between upper class and lower class will grow up.

Sports As A Team And The Main Objective Of The Game
For rugby however, there are 15players on a team and the main objective of the game is to use the ball
to have more points than the other team. In this sport a player can run, kick and pass with the ball but
they are not allowed to pass the ball forward. It is a contact sport as the players can tackle the
opponent/opposition in order to get the ball. There are three ways to score points in rugby, which is by
a try, a conversion and a goal kick. A try is worth five points, a conversion is worth two points, and a
goal kick is work three points. Therefore, this sport becomes a high scoring game. Rugby is played on
a grass field with lines on it to outline the boundaries. At each end of the fields there are goal posts at
either end with an in goal area, where players can score their points by placing the ball over this try
line. One team defends and the other is trying to score points, the same as netball. Rugby consists of
eight minutes and is split into forty minute half s. At half time there is a ten minute break then teams
swap ends of the field. These are the basic rules, regulations and objectives of this sport rugby.
Physical and mental training is required in both sports of Netball and Rugby. Mental attitude and focus
are essential elements in performance of these two sports. For optimal performance, athletes within
these two sports need to learn mental skills to activate and maintain their level of motivation. Physical
training is also an essential part of being

Religion and Morality
RELIGION AND MORALITY
(i)Examine the views of scholars concerning the idea that religion and morality are linked. In this
essay I am going to be looking at all the different view points on why some people may think religion
and morality are linked. I will talk about a few things that link them such as conscience, divine
command ethics, Kant s view and Aquinas view. Many people believe that morality is based upon
religion and the rules written in the Bible and other holy books, although some say that religion is
completely opposed to morality and it is wrong to mix the two.
Some scholars believe there are three views on the relationship between religion and morality, one of
them being that morality depends on religion. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moral opinions are judged against religious teachings.
Even secular society adopts or is influenced by religious moral teachings, for example, it seeks
guidance from religious leaders in moral matters such as genetic engineering/abortion.
In conclusion the strongest view to me is Social Conditioning, in which morality is independent of
religion. I believe that peoples morality comes from the environment that they are brought up in, and
the people around them such as parents and teachers. From a very young age we are taught what is
right and wrong, and grow up respecting the law and people around us more than God.
(ii)Comment on the view that religion and morality are not linked. Euthyphro s Dilemma was that the
problem of whether something is good because God commands it, or does God command that which
is good. Do that God s love that which is holy, or is it holy because it is loved by the God s Plato.
Almost all Christians will say something is good because God says so, his commands must be obeyed.
A Christian s dilemma is that either good is a whim or good is something that dictates to God. So if a
Christian interprets that it is God s will to murder, they think they are justified because it is God s
choice.
A.C Grayling believes that religious morality is irrelevant to modern society because what people
value has changed. He thinks that modern morality includes a great concern for human rights, animal

Comparing Stories Walk Two Moons And The Guest
The two stories Walk Two Moons, by Sharon Creech and The Guest retold by Uma Krishnaswami
share a similar theme of don t judge a person till you know them. Even though the two stories share a
similar theme, the authors tell it in different ways. In the first novel Walk Two Moons the author
shows the common theme through the characters thoughts, and feelings. For instance, Like Mr.
Cadaver as I told you before. Maybe Mr.Birkway helped her chop up her husband and bury him and
maybe they were getting worried and decided to disguise the spot with a rhododendron bush. Phoebe
thought Mrs. Cadaver killed her husband and was judging her actions before knowing her and her
backstory. Phoebe imagines the worst possible things when thinking of Mrs.Cadaver. Another piece of
evidence that proves the theme is, Everywhere you looked was something startling: a stuffed squirrel,
a kite in the shape of a dragon, a wooden cow with a spear piercing it s side. Both of the girls, Sal and
Phoebe, thought that Mrs. Cadaver had a bunch of weird things on the walls and all over the place.

One piece of evidence that contributes to the theme is, The rich man came to the courtyard to take a

his elegant guest. This reveals that the rich man wouldn t let the man in just because his clothes weren
t fancy enough. The rich man only invited him cause he looked better when he met him. Another piece
of evidence that helps understand the theme is, When I arrived in rags, you turned me away. Now that
I am dressed in finery, you treat me with honor. This demonstrates how some people treat others badly
because of what they wear or looked like. Even if they don t know you or the reason why you wear

issues using the existing platform. Many Republicans are currently working to repeal and replace
Obamacare with Trumpcare. The healthcare debate has come to a standstill in Congress as deep party

Congressman wrote to her that he believed that women should not be allowed to serve in combat as

she persisted and joined the Naval Academy anyway. This appeals to nontraditional gender roles

Stereotypes Of Women In The Work Force
During the first half of the 19th century, only few women worked. The majority of paid labour for
women was service work. Census records and newspaper advertisements from this period show
women worked as midwives, gardeners, washerwomen, dressmakers and on occasion, innkeepers
(Byrne, 2015). In addition to the small amount of work available, women also had to attend to
domestic duties at home. Cooking meals and cleaning was a constant and primary responsibility.
Subsequently, cooking was only a small part of women s work. With money so scarce, families had to

To Do No Harm the Focus of Safety
In 1852 Florence Nightingale wrote It may seem a strange principle to enunciate as the very first
requirement in a hospital that it should do the sick no harm . The goal of any medical facility should
be that no preventable harm should befall the patient. Though this may seem to be an obvious goal,
this very goal took second place to medical and scientific advances. In 2000, the article To Err is

what had once been a foundational goal of patient safety when in the care of the health system. Today,

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), an estimated 1.7 million infections resulting in
99,000 deaths occur as a result of hospital acquired infections each year. The health care worker s
hands are the most common mode of transmission of healthcare associated pathogens. Hand hygiene
remains the leading preventive practice that can break the chain in the spread of hospital infections.
However, this problem is still one of the most overlooked preventive measures in patient care. To
improve the performance of hand hygiene among health care workers, performance barriers such as
time, forgetfulness, and poor access to hand hygiene materials need to be addressed. Consistent
performance improvement with this practice insures a reduction in infection rates and is a major
component not only of patient protection, but healthcare providers as well.
To err is human, but the health care system is working hard to decrease the frequency of this occurring
by applying knowledge gained from research to actual clinical practice. For example, the prevention
of medication errors is vital to patient safety. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), defines
medication errors as any preventable event that may cause or lead to inappropriate medication use or

Mayfield can differentiate itself from other VCs and market themselves as more aligned with the LPs,
thus, allowing itself quick raising of funds and greater negotiating power when the fund is

GP, greater bargaining power is significantly favorable. * Greater Funds to Invest. Because fees are
less, there is greater amount to invest, and, in the case that there are many attractive investments,
Mayfield can capture more investments. However, there are potential costs to the budget based fees
which should also be considered. * Talent Acquisition. Because the fees are budget based, there may
be an incentive for high level talent to work for Mayfield, especially if salaries may be restricted by
the budget based nature of the fees; thus, high level talent may move to firms with a 2/20 structure. *
No Fixed Rate. The GP has the opportunity cost of not charging the fixed rate; because their costs are

The Relationship Between Gender And Power In A Streetcar...
The relationship between gender and power in A Street Car Named Desire
In the play A Streetcar Named Desire, author Tennessee Williams creates a strong relationship
between gender and power, and asserts that when both are unchecked and combined a force is created
which leads people to have no remorse while pursuing their desires. When the four main characters of
the play interact we see how this force is detrimental to the weaker characters. Being both immensely
masculine and powerful causes Stanley to torment the other main characters while chasing what he
wants. While Blanche possesses a domineering personality she is not masculine meaning society does
not grant her the same level of power Stanley possesses, allowing him to triumph over her. Mitch is
masculine but does not boast enough confidence to be powerful, and is therefore bullied and
manipulated by Stanley. As Stella is neither masculine nor confident and powerful, she falls victim to
repeated physical and emotional abuse by Stanley. With his overly masculine and domineering
personality, Stanley is a prime example of a top ranking alpha male. If his authority is challenged, he
responds violently to reinforce his position as the superior being. Williams depicts Stanley as an
extremely macho man who enjoys heartiness with men, his drink and food and games, his car, his
radio, everything that is his, that bears his emblem of the gaudy seed bearer (Sc. 1, P. 16) and is the
commander of his household. Additionally,

Alaska may be the largest state in the nation, but it is ranked last when it comes to food production.
The community has become more aware of this in recent years and have begun to initiate more of a
local food movement within the state. transition sentence With 570,640.95 square miles of land in
Alaska (U.S. Census, 2010), the land being used for agriculture is lacking. Considering all that land
there are 760 farms throughout the state and still the amount of land being used for agriculture remains
830,000 acres. When compared to the rest of the states Alaska is ranked almost last (between 47th and
50th) in every category of agriculture except aquaculture (USDA NASS, 2016). Because of this

With local food movements raising awareness in Alaska, there are many groups and organizations
which are growing with surprising speed due to the priority placed upon the movement. To begin with
there are several media sources which are placing an emphasis to buy local. One of these sources is
Edible Alaska, a culinary magazine whose sole purpose is being devoted to the local foods movement.
Edible s mission is to advocate for the importance of growing a strong local food economy while
exploring Alaska s rich culinary and cultural landscape. We use the power of story to celebrate our
state s unique food traditions, new culinary trends, and the people who shape the local food scene.

The Out Of Body Experiences
Out of Body Experiences Out of Body Research Foundation noted Stephanie C Experiences on April
25/2016 I remember drowning somehow (I think by a lake or river or something) and eventually
knowing I had passed. All of a sudden I felt an out of body experience and like I was being lifted up
through a vortex. A very intense vortex, it felt like I was going at least 100 mph. The scenery looked
like bright light and like I was passing through a bunch of stars. The vortex eventually stopped
however, and then my out of body experience occurred (OBERF, 2016). . Out of body experiences are
a process that focuses on the feeling of floating outside one s body, and some cases, the feeling of
perceiving one s physical body as if from a place outside one s body (Brugger Mohr, 2009, p. 137).
Out of body experiences may refer to astral projections or near death experiences. Astral projections
refer to a person s conscious detachment from one s physical body that can travel or exist outside of
the body, these individual who experience such phenomena often are aware of their surroundings and
can hear what is being said around them (Slick, n.d.). In turn, near death experience refers to the
possibility of detachment from one s body, a feeling of levitation, total serenity, security, warmth and
absolute dissolution and the presence of light; usually associated with death (McRae, 2014). These are
indexes for the paranormal. Out of body experiences could happen to anyone, but many skeptics

Dangers Of Human Genome Editing
Scientists, for some time now, have been concerned about the dangers of altering the human germ line.
Until now, the worries have been purely theoretical. But a technique invented recently makes it
possible to edit the genome precisely and with much greater ease. The technique holds the power to
repair or enhance any human gene. Genetic labs around the world are adapting this technique for they
believe the benefits to be boundless. However, considering the ethical complications of genome
editing affecting future generations, scientists have called for a moratorium on human genome editing,
that would alter human DNA in a way that can be inherited until issues of safety and efficiency are
addressed. I believe there should be a more or less permanent ... Show more content on

If genomes are being altered to suit parents preferences, do children become more like commodities
than precious gifts? (Collins Gene Editing)
How will gene editing be used? To shape a child so she will have more advantages in life or will better
fit the preferences of her parents? Is a ban on child genome editing even likely? Doing so would
restrict both parental rights and reproductive freedom. Parents will have to think about the downsides
of trying to control who their child will grow up to be. Parenting involves choices and responsibility
but most important of all accepting their child for who they are.
Banning gene editing isn t our best option for it would drive practices underground to black markets
but at this stage, it would be irresponsible to proceed. This may be one of the best medical research, it
will be noted, and be looked back on as a turning point. It isn t crazy to think someday this will be
widely accepted and valued, many controversial types of research have. However, we ve had various
circumstances where blameless technology was used badly, there is little reason to think gene drives
would be an exception. There may come a time when gene drives are used not only for curing diseases
but also military purposes. We could be dealing with overpopulation, irreversible ecological damage,
and intentional misuse of gene drives.

Europe s Influence On Western Europe
Western Europe is a term that was used to describe a region where many countries, such as Britain,
France and Germany, which joined after World Wars, shared the same history. In another perspective,
it was also sometimes referring to a region where countries shared the same value: capitalism and
democracy. Throughout the history, because of difference events, the position of Western Europe in
the world has also changed. Before 1914, due to the rapid development of the Enlightenment ideas
and the industrialization in Britain and France, the world major powers centrally seated in Western
Europe. However, as the Western European countries suffered huge losses from two World Wars,
Western Europe has actually steadily marched East since the Great War. Moreover, as many new
immigrants from the former colonized regions joined Western European countries, Western Europe
also gained its economic and political cohesion as most countries became part of NATO and then the
European Union. In the present days, while the idea of Western Europe has expanded to more
countries, it became dominant in its continent and could be considered as a savior to many other
nations.
Prior to the 1914, many of the world great powers, such as Britain and France were centrally seated in
Western Europe. In the 18th century, Britain and France soon developed rapidly due to the birth of the
Enlightenment idea, which challenged the tradition and put more emphasis on the reasons (Hunt et al.

Essay On The Enlightenment Era
The Enlightenment era, which spanned the end of the seventeenth century through the beginning of
the nineteenth, was characterized by the idea that everything in the universe could be discovered and
understood in a rational way. Enlightenment thinkers also began to reconsider and challenge the
church by thinking of religion as congruent with science and logic. Mid nineteenth century Europe
started to transition away from this culture of intellectual prosperity. As political and social focus
drifted toward industrial development, the divide between high culture and the middle class became
more distinct. These societal changes affected attitudes about morality, culture, the arts, and science.
For example, the discussion about evolution and creation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Firstly, the age of the earth was still heavily debated at the time of publication. In the early nineteenth
century, people assumed that the earth was approximately six thousand years old. Later, William
Kelvin theorized that the earth was between twenty and four hundred million years old. Because
Darwin s theory depended on the earth being more than six thousand years old, it was hard for many
people to accept it as truth. Darwin was also criticized, like Lamarck, for missing transitional fossils
that would potentially prove the gradual evolution of a species. Also like Lamarck, Darwin lacked a
specific mechanism by which traits were inherited by offspring. Unfortunately, he had not heard of
Gregor Mendel s research on genetics. Darwin speculated on pangenesis in which gemmules (tiny
hereditary particles) were emitted from all cells and were collected in the organism s reproductive
organs (Darwin). However, critics said this theory was too Lamarckian. Furthermore, Darwin s theory
of natural selection was also criticized on religious grounds. Although Origin of Species did not
explicitly challenge God s creation of man, critics were quick to read between the lines. Scientists
agreed that it was possible everything evolved from one common ancestor, but rejected the idea that
evolution was the only way that species could

Conflict And Art Analysis
Conflict and art: Renaissance to Modern day Conflicts have caused a considerable amount of damage
to the country s people and economy. However, conflict have also had a tremendous impact on art;
including the famous art pieces we know today. Conflict has especially impacted these three art
pieces: Gassed, The Third Of May 1808 and Awaken From The Unknowing. The Third of May 1808
was completed by Francisco Goya in 1814, greatly inspired by the Peninsular war. Gassed was
completed by John Singer Sargent in 1919, influenced by the first world war. Finally, the Civil Rights
movement guided Charles White to complete Awaken From the Unknowing in 1961. Conflicts have
influenced art throughout history; each particular art piece showed the emotion and feelings the author
had towards that specific conflict at the time. As I said before Gassed was completed by John Singer
Sargent in 1919. Gassed is an oil type painting with light colors and shades. The painting includes
several soldiers walking in a near ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is another oil type painting that uses light and dark colors. The painting includes a person wearing
very light colored clothes, making him stand out, surrounded by a squad of soldiers holding him at
gunpoint. Everything seems to darken or shade as you go further from the original brightly colored
person. The painting shows the unnecessary force during the Peninsular war. As stated in the
introductory paragraph Awaken From the Unknowing was completed by Charles White in 1961. This
drawing is created with crayon and ink and only uses white and dark shades. The painting pretty much
just includes a young african american women with several papers lying in front of her. However, she
is in a position where she looks tired and stressed. Since the painting was created during the civil
rights movement I assume the author is trying to show struggles that african american people

Alfred Nobel And The Nobel Peace Prize
When the word peace comes to mind, one usually thinks about tranquility or absent from violence but
when learning about Alfred Nobel, one learns that the products he invented were far from peaceful in
some eyes. The Nobel Peace Prize was created because Nobel left in his will that his fortune was to be
given as awards in the areas of: peace, chemistry, physiology, and literature. Alfred Nobel himself
started with nothing and ended with a large fortune, and as for The Nobel Peace Prize, it has evolved
over the last century into new ways no one saw occurring in the future.
Alfred Nobel was born into bankruptcy in 1833 to Immanual Nobel and Andriette Ahlsell. According
to Nils Ringertz, Alfred s father was eventually able to provide a first class education to his sons that
taught them language, sciences, and literature. At the end of his academics, Nobel was particularly
fascinated with English literature and poetry. His father was not pleased by his interests so he sent him
overseas to study chemical engineering. In Paris, France, Nobel met and worked with Ascanio
Sobrero, the chemist who had discovered nitroglycerin [a highly explosive substance]. Ringertz states
that Alfred Nobel became very interested in nitroglycerin and how it could be put to practical use in
construction work, with this new interest, Nobel took the chance with the substance and worked with
it for years. In his experiments with nitroglycerin, many explosions occurred including one in 1864

Using Animals in Research is Bad! Essay
Have you ever wondered about what a product or a medicine goes through before it gets to us on the
store shelves? Products from deodorant to Viagra to weed killer go through years of tests before a
regulating body decides they are safe for us to use. The FDA approves drugs and cosmetics and he
EPA regulates chemicals that are used and may be harmful to the environment. However before these
products are even considered by these regulatory bodies they must go through years of testing. Testing
that is unfortunately done on defenseless animals. Each year 50 to 100 million vertebrate animals,
such as mice, rats, rabbits, cats and dogs are used in experiments to test products such as medicines,
lipstick, household cleaners and pesticides. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This type of test is disturbing due to the fact that there are several highly sensitive non animal tests
that can be done to detect chemical induced genetic mutations but the government still requires
companies to poison animals to see whether or not they will develop cancer. The standard test of the
kind is the rodent cancer bioassay. Mice and rats are subjected to a lifetime of chemical exposure to
the chemicals in all new or reformulated pesticides, food additives, and drugs. Studies have proven
that these tests are found to have more than a 70 percent false positive rate. The final group of tests
that are performed on animals is product tests. No law requires that cosmetics and household products
be tested on animals however, the FDA does urge companies to conduct whatever tests are necessary
to establish that their products are safe and the Consumer Safety Product Commission that regulates
household products does not require animal testing yet many companies do it anyway. I have saved
what I feel is the most cruel aspect of animals testing is that done on primates. Primates are known to
be sensitive, intelligent beings that share many important biological and physiological characteristics
with humans. Baby primates that are born in labs are forcibly torn from their screaming mothers
usually within three days of birth and the

  • 2. Essay about George Babbitt of Sinclair Lewis Babbitt George Babbitt: Image of a Presbyterian In Babbitt, Sinclair Lewis portrays religion as a corrupt business. In fact, he emphasizes this by focusing on his main character George Babbitt. George Babbitt is characterized as a businessman in Zenith. He is a man preoccupied about his reputation and his image before the main leaders of the town he lives in. Lewis creates a hypocritical figure for Babbitt through his reasons for being a Presbyterian. He says that if you were to question Babbitt about his religion he would say, My religion is to serve my fellow men, to honor my brother as myself, and to do my bit to make life happier for one and for all (199). Of course, if you heard this from Babbitt you would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His participation within his religious denomination was his stepping stool. Chum Frink and Mr.Eathorne accepted Babbitt because of his proposals for the Sunday School. He wanted to divide the school into four armies with militaristic characteristics. This would help the children feel as if they were doing something worthy. Secondly, he insisted on improvement of the advertising committee (Lewis 207). This goes to show you how businesslike the Sunday School was becoming. Babbitt was only thinking of business morals and forgetting the religious morals. Lewis also draws an image of George Babbitt s sanctimoniousness through his idea of Hell. We see Babbitt s hypocrisy when he says, if one was a Bad Man, that is, if he murdered or committed burglary or used cocaine or had mistresses or sold non existent real estate, he would be punished (199). Notice how everything Babbitt mentions at the time is something he has not done, however as he continues to live his life he eventually pulls a crooked real estate deal and begins to cheat on his wife, Myra. Babbitt s flirtatious character is seen when he dates several women and is careless because of his wife s absence. Lewis practically points out Babbitt s hypocrisy through his failure to comply with his own criteria of who does and who does not go to Hell. Lewis portrays the Presbyterian Church ... • 4. Why Did The Us Invade South Korea On 25 June 1950, North Korean troops poured across the 38th parallel of the Korean peninsula, to invade South Korea. Soon, a U.S. led United Nations force intervened on behalf South Korea, which prompted The Peoples Republic of China, and to a lesser extent the Soviet Union, to intervene on behalf of North Korea. What followed was three years of bloody combat, until an armistice was signed on 27 July 1953. In the minds of most people, that was the end of it. The Korean conflict was soon overshadowed by other events, such as the Cuban Missile Crisis, the assassination of President John F. Kennedy and the Vietnam War. The television show, M*A*S*H, which ran for eleven years between 1972 and 1983, was set in Korea, during the three years ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1910, Japan officially annexed Korea. For the next thirty five years, Korea was part of the Empire of Japan. In the final days of World War II, The United States military dropped atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima, on 6 August 1945 and Nagasaki, on 9 August 1945. Also, on 9 August, as agreed at the Yalta Conference, The Soviet Union declared war on Japan and invaded Manchuria and Korea. On 14 August 1945, Japan announced that it would surrender. That evening, U.S. Army Colonel Dean Rusk and Colonel Charles Tic Bonesteel were ordered to identify a dividing line between American and Soviet Zones of occupation, on the Korean peninsula. Given only a matter of hours and no guidance, the colonels turned to an old National Geographic map of Korea. They decided that the capital should be in the American sector. Thus, they searched for a convenient dividing line north of Seoul. As there was no convenient geographic division, the thirty eighth parallel was chosen. The split was intended to be temporary, with reunification and national elections scheduled for 1948. However, as the cold war intensified, the United States and the Soviet Union established governments in South and North Korea respectively. On 15 August 1948, The South Korean Republic of Korea (ROK) was formally established. The anti communist leader, Syngman Rhee was installed as the first president and immediately began purging South Korea of communists. In response, the Soviets established the Democratic People s Republic of Korea (North Korea,) on 9 September 1948, with former guerrilla fighter and Soviet Red Army major, Kim Il sung as ... • 5. Effects Of Negative Tweets During The 2011-2012 Primary... This article touches on the effects of negative tweets during the 2011 2012 primary elections. The author assumes that through research she would discover that candidates that had fewer votes would be more inclined to take part in negative tweeting behaviors in regards to their fellow competitors during the election. The tweets that would be posted would be negative towards the frontrunner s charter versus stances on issues if candidates felt the same way on an issue. These assumptions raised many questions to research as well. Moody, Cohen, and Fournon (2013) raised the first question of What types of messages did candidates disseminate utilizing tweets during the 2011 12 Presidential Primaries (p. 3). The next question brought up by Moody, Cohen, and Fournon (2013) was, Were runner up candidates more likely than front runners to include a negative tone in their tweets (p. 3). Then the third question stated by Moody, Cohen and Fournon (2013) was, Were runner up candidates more likely than front runners to attack their opponents in their tweets (p. 3) Finally, the fourth and final question raised by Moody, Cohen, and Fournon (2013) stated, What interactive units did politicians use within their tweets. To what type of content did they link? What was the tone of candidate hashtags (p. 3). United under one creed that is the first pillar of Islam and the primary and absolute faith that one should devote to. It is the Shahada, which says, I believe in no gods but Allah and Muhammad (PBUH) is the messenger of Allah , but even though this is the common creed among all Muslims around the world, many chose to divide themselves and separated themselves under a slightly different and innovated creed. Since the Prophethood of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), Islam started to embed into the lives of the people of Arabia and as the number of people taking Shahada started to grow, they followed and trailed behind the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Soon After the demise of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in the 7th century the divide started to arise inside the Muslim communities in the land of Arabia when disagreements over the successor to the Prophet Muhammad arose. The Sunnis maintain to believe that there was going to be a formal selection of who the Prophet s successor or Caliph was going to be because according to Quran that is the rightful way of selection that includes the consensus of the majority votes. But the admirers of Ali(RA), who was the son in law of the Prophet Muhammad, protested and believed that the Prophet(PBUH) had chosen His son in law to be His rightful successor. • 7. An Analysis Of Hoch s Photomontage s Spirit Of Our Time Hoch s photomontage was one of many collages that criticized the cultural staleness, depravity, and decaying values of the German state. Through her depiction of German politicians and technology in a state of chaos and confusion, she was effectively able to convince the German people to reevaluate their faith in the government and current cultural values. She used the fast advancing technology of the time (especially mass media) in also advancing her own goals of sardonically criticizing the failings of the German state as well as pushing for gender equality. The other Berlin Dadaist, Raoul Hausmann, created the combine, Spirit of Our Time: Mechanical Head, to criticize the German public s dependence on tools and industry to think and rationalize, stripping away what he perceived made us human (Crockett, 173). The title, Spirit of Our Time, is a metaphor for the German people s inability to enact the change and reform needed to rebuild a better Germany after the horrendous world war (Doherty, 82). The wooden head represents current state of the German people whose extent of thought and logic can only be experienced by the mechanical tools affixed to the outside of his head. Tribal sovereignty can at times act as a shield for violence. The independent nature of tribes as nations can impede systems established to prevent reoccurring actions of violence within a society. However, as domestic violence is largely a result of societal systems, it is easiest and most thoroughly examined through narratives. Louise Erdrich provides this in Love Medicine. No more are women welcome to be respected shaman, religious leaders: Thus, the primary role of this education for Indian girls was to inculcate patriarchal norms and desires into Native communities, so that women would lose their places of leadership in Native communities (Smith, Boarding 90). Marie demonstrates this when she views her noteworthy accomplishments through the position her husband has attained (Erdrich 153 154). In an Anglicized society, Marie s accomplishments of raising children is negligible compared to what her husband can achieve. Marie has internalized this status and cannot see the value in anything she has done to be proud of. Gordie was raised by a woman who has lost her sense of accomplishment and might have grown to be blind to the accomplishments of the women around them. The Anglo s historical belief of gender hierarchy is problematic as negative attitudes toward women are a stronger indicator for domestic violence than alcohol (Mildorf 29). The gender roles weren t just limited to social power, but were further expressed through physical dominance. This was translated by the Native American children s experiences at boarding school, where school leaders showed dominance through physical abuse in addition to the psychological indoctrination. However, in Islamic belief, humans are believed to hold a communication with Islam s Allah, (God in Arabic), with the source of this communication being at the center of our bodies. After death, humans reside into the Barzakh realm until Judgement Day. Judgement Day is the day in which Muslims, (those who practice Islam) are judged according to their action in life. The Barzakh realm acts as a resting place which consists of both Heaven and Hell, (Williams, Near Death Experiences of Muslims 1). Heaven, of course, is where Allah rests, and Hell is where Satan rests. A difference between Christianity s Satan and Islam s Satan is that Islam s Satan wasn t exactly an angel, but a Jinn. Jinns are like angels except angels from a different world, angels that sin, ( A Scientific Miracle in the Story of Satan 1). Also according to Muslim belief, Judgement Day also marks the day of resurrection. Resurrection is the act of getting to live again and no longer be dead. • 12. The Blood Rushing Effect On Readers, And Dracula By Bram... Only few stories and novels have the blood rushing effect on readers, and Dracula by Bram Stoker is one of those novels. This novel utilizes the method of using letters and other documents in order to tell the story. The application of the epistolary technique in the story Dracula proves to be quite effective because it does enable the reader to foresee the happenings in the story on a closer and more personal scale. In this novel, the man who writes the letters in Transylvania experiences a vast amount of supernatural experiences. Within the first four chapters of Dracula, Jonathan Harker witnesses supernatural occurrence s such as seeing flickering blue lights, how Jonathan Harker s coachman magically made the were wolves disappear, and how he cannot see the Count Dracula s reflection in the mirror. In the novel Dracula, Jonathan Harker tries to overlook these supernatural occurrences because of Mr. Hawkins interest. However, this reason may not be the most realistic justification in why Jonathan is persistent in his stay, but rather he is also aware that he is a prisoner. The novel Dracula also has many other supernatural aspects such as the three women in Count Dracula s house, and how Count Dracula proceeds down the walls in a lizard like manner. In the novel Dracula, it could be argued that Jonathan Harker is not a reliable narrator because of the fact that he is the only one in the book experiencing these occurrences and his mental state is questionable at times. Even having to break through a layer of thin ice to make it out to my blind never gets old. The frigid cold on my hands can get unbearable at times, but the possibility of frostbite is never at the forefront of my thoughts. After the initial excitement had settled down, the dogs came back with only five retrieved ducks. Instead of being disappointed, we were amused. You see, we seemed to have hit more air than ducks. Maybe if we would have shot the clay pigeons a few more times in target practice, we would have done better. As opening day progressed, we improved a lot. Our group ended up five short of the 50 daily limit for the ten of us. At the end of the hunt, we reminisced about the day s events while we cleaned the ducks, barbecued and laid out our hunting plans for day two. Day two arrived a lot sooner than we had expected. Since opening day was complete, additional hunting hours could now begin at sunrise. When we got out to the blind, the ducks were once again thick in the air. I don t know why, but as I was sitting in the blind, I remembered a quote I had read in a Field and Streams magazine. The core components of an authoritarian regime are the lack of accessibility for citizens to voice their opinions, and more importantly, to participate in politics through formal channels (Mintz, Close and Croci 256 258). Authoritarian regimes also share an absence of government accountability for any or all decisions due to a wide range of power (Mintz, Close and Croci 256 258). This is in stark contrast to democratic regimes where government accountability is held with the utmost importance with the citizens in said democratic country will move into action when their government does not align or hold true to what they may have previously put forth. I was inexperienced of life before I joined the army. Therefore, I was overwhelmed of life lessons when I came to basic training. However, I learned the seven army values which were loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage; I experienced every value throughout my training process. They help me to discipline myself to be a good soldier and a good person. The value that I honored most was integrity. I was taught that integrity was doing what s right, legally and morally. However, throughout my training experience, I understand integrity as fearless, to tell the truth, responsible for your own action, and hardworking. Integrity means the courage, to tell the truth. In the beginning of my training process, I was told to study the seven army values by heart. I didn t understand why my drill sergeants made such a big deal about those values. The seven words were easy to remember, and we all knew the meaning of them. However, I changed my mind when I witness Lopez s situation. Lopez ate a Twister bar and left its wrap in the trash can. My drill sergeants found out about it and questioned the whole platoon. Lopez was fear of the punishment, so he didn t admit his wrong action. I will then demonstrate an understanding of two psychological theories which can help understand influences on personality and identity development. Finally, I will look into further detail at Holmes and Rahe and identity two life events which I can relate to the case study and the impact it s had on the individual. There has been an ongoing debate within society for a long time over the influences of nature vs nurture and which one has the more influential factor on behavior and development. It is a clear fact that Human development and behavior is a complex interrelationship between nature and nurture. Nature relates to the genes in which we inherit from our parents, it mainly focuses on genetics and hereditary characteristics, such as eye colour, hair colour, or inheriting illnesses. Nature can also be referred to as the genotype. Nurture relates to social circumstances, such as our upbringing and lifestyle. It looks at the interaction between our genotype and environment. Another term for nurture is known as the phenotype. An example of nature vs nurture can be a person who has developed a hereditary diabetes from their parents. Although this has been passed on through the influence of nature we can still use our nurture side to influence change, such as changing diet and lifestyle habits to counteract the diabetes. Our faith comes from the preachings of Jesus but he never specifically described the sacraments and how to perform them. There are seven sacraments in the catholic church and three initiation sacraments, which must be completed in order to be a full member of the church. These sacraments when completed together allow you t become one in God, but where do the sacraments draw their power and how? The first recorded baptism was performed by John the Baptist. John the Baptist is Jesus cousin and was deemed the preparer for his cousin. John was called to prepare for the coming of the lord and the kingdom of God as well warn people for their ultimate judgement. John called on his followers to repent and make ready their hearts for the Lord, this was accomplished through baptism. John would immerse his follower in the river Jordan; however, in order for the sacrament to have validity multiple essential things must first be accomplished. John s followers must have complete faith in his message of the Messiah; they must also recognize that this was a sacrament of repentance that must lead to change. Confession was also a necessary part of John s baptism and ultimately repentance and the forgiveness of sin. Through this process, one is able to be renewed in the Lord and be prepared for the arrival of the Messiah and their final judgement. For by one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many people believe that morality is based upon religion and the rules written in the Bible and other holy books, although some say that religion is completely opposed to morality and it is wrong to mix the two. Moral opinions are judged against religious teachings. Even secular society adopts or is influenced by religious moral teachings, for example, it seeks guidance from religious leaders in moral matters such as genetic engineering/abortion. In conclusion the strongest view to me is Social Conditioning, in which morality is independent of religion. I believe that peoples morality comes from the environment that they are brought up in, and the people around them such as parents and teachers. From a very young age we are taught what is right and wrong, and grow up respecting the law and people around us more than God. (ii)Comment on the view that religion and morality are not linked. Do that God s love that which is holy, or is it holy because it is loved by the God s Plato. Almost all Christians will say something is good because God says so, his commands must be obeyed. A Christian s dilemma is that either good is a whim or good is something that dictates to God. So if a Christian interprets that it is God s will to murder, they think they are justified because it is God s choice. Prevention Of A Safer Health System To Do No Harm the Focus of Safety Baker School of Nursing To Do No Harm the Focus of Safety In 1852 Florence Nightingale wrote It may seem a strange principle to enunciate as the very first requirement in a hospital that it should do the sick no harm . The goal of any medical facility should be that no preventable harm should befall the patient. Though this may seem to be an obvious goal, this very goal took second place to medical and scientific advances. In 2000, the article To Err is Human: Building a Safer Health System published by the Institute of Medicine, drew attention back to what had once been a foundational goal of patient safety when in the care of the health system. Today, preventable medical errors responsible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), an estimated 1.7 million infections resulting in 99,000 deaths occur as a result of hospital acquired infections each year. The health care worker s hands are the most common mode of transmission of healthcare associated pathogens. Hand hygiene remains the leading preventive practice that can break the chain in the spread of hospital infections. However, this problem is still one of the most overlooked preventive measures in patient care. To improve the performance of hand hygiene among health care workers, performance barriers such as time, forgetfulness, and poor access to hand hygiene materials need to be addressed. Consistent performance improvement with this practice insures a reduction in infection rates and is a major component not only of patient protection, but healthcare providers as well. To err is human, but the health care system is working hard to decrease the frequency of this occurring by applying knowledge gained from research to actual clinical practice. For example, the prevention of medication errors is vital to patient safety. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), defines medication errors as any preventable event that may cause or lead to inappropriate medication use or patient harm while the medication ... Venture Capital Case PAWSON FOUNDATION: AUGUST 2006 Case Study FNCE611 Private Equity and Venture Capital Present to: Professor LIM, MENG ANN Present by: HU, XINYIN LI, LUXI LIU, YUANCHANG RATANASIRIGULCHAI, TEEMAR Compensation Methods: Budget based vs Flat Rate Management Fee | | Mayfield charged a budget based management fee to appeal to potential LPs. Because industry practice was traditionally a 2/20 based fee, Mayfield had a competitive advantage against other VCs as the budget based fee was attractive because: * Transparency. Budget based fees encourage transparency by requiring Mayfield to produce an expense list, providing LPs greater information compared to the traditional management fee based on committed capital. * ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mayfield can differentiate itself from other VCs and market themselves as more aligned with the LPs, thus, allowing itself quick raising of funds and greater negotiating power when the fund is oversubscribed. * Because the terms of the fund are a product of the negotiations between the LP and GP, greater bargaining power is significantly favorable. * Greater Funds to Invest. Because fees are less, there is greater amount to invest, and, in the case that there are many attractive investments, Mayfield can capture more investments. However, there are potential costs to the budget based fees which should also be considered. * Talent Acquisition. Because the fees are budget based, there may be an incentive for high level talent to work for Mayfield, especially if salaries may be restricted by the budget based nature of the fees; thus, high level talent may move to firms with a 2/20 structure. * No Fixed Rate. The GP has the opportunity cost of not charging the fixed rate; because their costs are well below the 2.5% cap, Mayfield is has a trade off of the difference between the fixed rate and the budget based charges however, at the same time, they are compensated with higher carried interest. * The GP may be severely affected if the economy declines or there are no good deals to be found; the budget based approach was based on the concept of alignment of interest, however, the VC has less control over the industry ... • 39. The Relationship Between Gender And Power In A Streetcar... The relationship between gender and power in A Street Car Named Desire In the play A Streetcar Named Desire, author Tennessee Williams creates a strong relationship between gender and power, and asserts that when both are unchecked and combined a force is created which leads people to have no remorse while pursuing their desires. When the four main characters of the play interact we see how this force is detrimental to the weaker characters. Being both immensely masculine and powerful causes Stanley to torment the other main characters while chasing what he wants. While Blanche possesses a domineering personality she is not masculine meaning society does not grant her the same level of power Stanley possesses, allowing him to triumph over her. Mitch is masculine but does not boast enough confidence to be powerful, and is therefore bullied and manipulated by Stanley. As Stella is neither masculine nor confident and powerful, she falls victim to repeated physical and emotional abuse by Stanley. With his overly masculine and domineering personality, Stanley is a prime example of a top ranking alpha male. If his authority is challenged, he responds violently to reinforce his position as the superior being. Williams depicts Stanley as an extremely macho man who enjoys heartiness with men, his drink and food and games, his car, his radio, everything that is his, that bears his emblem of the gaudy seed bearer (Sc. 1, P. 16) and is the commander of his household. The Out Of Body Experiences Out of Body Experiences Out of Body Research Foundation noted Stephanie C Experiences on April 25/2016 I remember drowning somehow (I think by a lake or river or something) and eventually knowing I had passed. All of a sudden I felt an out of body experience and like I was being lifted up through a vortex. A very intense vortex, it felt like I was going at least 100 mph. The scenery looked like bright light and like I was passing through a bunch of stars. The vortex eventually stopped however, and then my out of body experience occurred (OBERF, 2016). . Out of body experiences are a process that focuses on the feeling of floating outside one s body, and some cases, the feeling of perceiving one s physical body as if from a place outside one s body (Brugger Mohr, 2009, p. 137). Out of body experiences may refer to astral projections or near death experiences. Astral projections refer to a person s conscious detachment from one s physical body that can travel or exist outside of the body, these individual who experience such phenomena often are aware of their surroundings and can hear what is being said around them (Slick, n.d.). In turn, near death experience refers to the possibility of detachment from one s body, a feeling of levitation, total serenity, security, warmth and absolute dissolution and the presence of light; usually associated with death (McRae, 2014). But a technique invented recently makes it possible to edit the genome precisely and with much greater ease. The technique holds the power to repair or enhance any human gene. Genetic labs around the world are adapting this technique for they believe the benefits to be boundless. However, considering the ethical complications of genome editing affecting future generations, scientists have called for a moratorium on human genome editing, that would alter human DNA in a way that can be inherited until issues of safety and efficiency are addressed. To shape a child so she will have more advantages in life or will better fit the preferences of her parents? Is a ban on child genome editing even likely? Doing so would restrict both parental rights and reproductive freedom. Parents will have to think about the downsides of trying to control who their child will grow up to be. Parenting involves choices and responsibility but most important of all accepting their child for who they are. Banning gene editing isn t our best option for it would drive practices underground to black markets but at this stage, it would be irresponsible to proceed. This may be one of the best medical research, it will be noted, and be looked back on as a turning point. It isn t crazy to think someday this will be widely accepted and valued, many controversial types of research have. However, we ve had various circumstances where blameless technology was used badly, there is little reason to think gene drives would be an exception. There may come a time when gene drives are used not only for curing diseases but also military purposes. We could be dealing with overpopulation, irreversible ecological damage, and intentional misuse of gene drives. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Europe s Influence On Western Europe Western Europe is a term that was used to describe a region where many countries, such as Britain, France and Germany, which joined after World Wars, shared the same history. In another perspective, it was also sometimes referring to a region where countries shared the same value: capitalism and democracy. Throughout the history, because of difference events, the position of Western Europe in the world has also changed. Before 1914, due to the rapid development of the Enlightenment ideas and the industrialization in Britain and France, the world major powers centrally seated in Western Europe. However, as the Western European countries suffered huge losses from two World Wars, Western Europe has actually steadily marched East since the Great War. Moreover, as many new immigrants from the former colonized regions joined Western European countries, Western Europe also gained its economic and political cohesion as most countries became part of NATO and then the European Union. In the present days, while the idea of Western Europe has expanded to more countries, it became dominant in its continent and could be considered as a savior to many other nations. Prior to the 1914, many of the world great powers, such as Britain and France were centrally seated in Western Europe. In the 18th century, Britain and France soon developed rapidly due to the birth of the Enlightenment idea, which challenged the tradition and put more emphasis on the reasons (Hunt et al. 577). • 44. Essay On The Enlightenment Era The Enlightenment era, which spanned the end of the seventeenth century through the beginning of the nineteenth, was characterized by the idea that everything in the universe could be discovered and understood in a rational way. Enlightenment thinkers also began to reconsider and challenge the church by thinking of religion as congruent with science and logic. Mid nineteenth century Europe started to transition away from this culture of intellectual prosperity. As political and social focus drifted toward industrial development, the divide between high culture and the middle class became more distinct. These societal changes affected attitudes about morality, culture, the arts, and science. For example, the discussion about evolution and creation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Firstly, the age of the earth was still heavily debated at the time of publication. In the early nineteenth century, people assumed that the earth was approximately six thousand years old. Later, William Kelvin theorized that the earth was between twenty and four hundred million years old. Because Darwin s theory depended on the earth being more than six thousand years old, it was hard for many people to accept it as truth. Darwin was also criticized, like Lamarck, for missing transitional fossils that would potentially prove the gradual evolution of a species. Also like Lamarck, Darwin lacked a specific mechanism by which traits were inherited by offspring. Unfortunately, he had not heard of Gregor Mendel s research on genetics. Darwin speculated on pangenesis in which gemmules (tiny hereditary particles) were emitted from all cells and were collected in the organism s reproductive organs (Darwin). However, critics said this theory was too Lamarckian. Furthermore, Darwin s theory of natural selection was also criticized on religious grounds. Although Origin of Species did not explicitly challenge God s creation of man, critics were quick to read between the lines. Scientists agreed that it was possible everything evolved from one common ancestor, but rejected the idea that evolution was the only way that species could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, conflict have also had a tremendous impact on art; including the famous art pieces we know today. Conflict has especially impacted these three art pieces: Gassed, The Third Of May 1808 and Awaken From The Unknowing. The Third of May 1808 was completed by Francisco Goya in 1814, greatly inspired by the Peninsular war. Gassed was completed by John Singer Sargent in 1919, influenced by the first world war. Finally, the Civil Rights movement guided Charles White to complete Awaken From the Unknowing in 1961. • 46. Alfred Nobel And The Nobel Peace Prize When the word peace comes to mind, one usually thinks about tranquility or absent from violence but when learning about Alfred Nobel, one learns that the products he invented were far from peaceful in some eyes. The Nobel Peace Prize was created because Nobel left in his will that his fortune was to be given as awards in the areas of: peace, chemistry, physiology, and literature. Alfred Nobel himself started with nothing and ended with a large fortune, and as for The Nobel Peace Prize, it has evolved over the last century into new ways no one saw occurring in the future. Alfred Nobel was born into bankruptcy in 1833 to Immanual Nobel and Andriette Ahlsell. According to Nils Ringertz, Alfred s father was eventually able to provide a first class education to his sons that taught them language, sciences, and literature. At the end of his academics, Nobel was particularly fascinated with English literature and poetry. His father was not pleased by his interests so he sent him overseas to study chemical engineering. In Paris, France, Nobel met and worked with Ascanio Sobrero, the chemist who had discovered nitroglycerin [a highly explosive substance]. Ringertz states that Alfred Nobel became very interested in nitroglycerin and how it could be put to practical use in construction work, with this new interest, Nobel took the chance with the substance and worked with it for years. In his experiments with nitroglycerin, many explosions occurred including one in 1864 that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Products from deodorant to Viagra to weed killer go through years of tests before a regulating body decides they are safe for us to use. The FDA approves drugs and cosmetics and he EPA regulates chemicals that are used and may be harmful to the environment. However before these products are even considered by these regulatory bodies they must go through years of testing. Testing that is unfortunately done on defenseless animals. This type of test is disturbing due to the fact that there are several highly sensitive non animal tests that can be done to detect chemical induced genetic mutations but the government still requires companies to poison animals to see whether or not they will develop cancer. Mice and rats are subjected to a lifetime of chemical exposure to the chemicals in all new or reformulated pesticides, food additives, and drugs. Studies have proven that these tests are found to have more than a 70 percent false positive rate. The final group of tests that are performed on animals is product tests. No law requires that cosmetics and household products be tested on animals however, the FDA does urge companies to conduct whatever tests are necessary to establish that their products are safe and the Consumer Safety Product Commission that regulates household products does not require animal testing yet many companies do it anyway.
