The Revolution Will Not Be Televised Critical Analysis Essay
The Revolution Will Not Be Televised is a poem and song by Gil Scott Heron. Scott Heron first
recorded it for his 1970 album Small Talk at 125th and Lenox, on which he recited the lyrics,
accompanied by congas and bongo drums. The message of the song is the elusive nature of political
culture in Nixons America and the inability of the mainstream to capture the real heart of the people.
Heron uses cultural refrences from the 1970s to express his angerin the 1970s. What he is trying relay
in his poem that In a country where everything was becoming increasingly sanitized and pre
packaged, The Revolution will not be televised is partly a call to arms and partly an acknowledgement
that there was an alternative, but that it wouldn t ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also played a central role in covert attempts to sabotage the 1968 Paris Peace Accords which could

Changes During The Agricultural Community Essay
Due to changes in the agricultural community there was in early nineteenth century East Anglia a
significant situation of underemployment within the agricultural labourers community. At this time it
was also being recognised that there was an ever increasing growth in population; for instance: several
landowners and journalists attributed the problems of rural society to the size of the labourers families
and to their tendency to marry at an early age. It has been suggested that the average size of the
agricultural labourers household was 4.9. This population rise in turn put pressure on the supply of
housing, resulting in many agricultural labouring families living in small, squalid and overcrowded
cottages, many consisting of just one room, with no ceiling, just the bare roof tiles and a clay floor.
The building itself would have been constructed from unbound stone or wattle and mud. It can be
suggested that: The vegetable substances mixed with the mud to make it bind, rapidly decompose,
leaving the walls porous. The earth of the floor is full of vegetable matter [...] it is peculiarly liable to
damp. It can be suggested therefore that the growth of population, coupled with the deterioration of
living standards within agricultural communities of East Anglia contributed towards the pauperisation
of the agricultural labourers and their families. The aforementioned growth of population within the
agricultural communities of East Anglia led to an ever increasing

Geothermal Energy from the Earth
Geothermal energy
Energy from the Earth What could be more natural or plentiful? The source of geothermal power is the
heat contained inside the Earth; heat so intense that it creates molten magma. There are a few different
types of geothermal energy that can be tapped. Some geothermal systems are formed when hot magma
near the surface (1,500 to 10,000 meters deep) directly heats groundwater. The heat generated from
these hot spots flows outward toward the surface, manifesting as volcanoes, geysers, and hot springs .
Naturally occurring hot water and steam can be tapped by energy conversion technology to generate
electricity or to produce hot water for direct use. Other geothermal systems are formed even when no
magma is nearby as magma heats rocks which in turn heat deeply circulating groundwater. In order to
maximize the energy gleaned from these so called hot dry rocks, geothermal facilities will often
fracture the hot rocks and pump water into and from them in order to use the heated water to generate
electricity.
The concentration of geothermal energy at any given location must be quite high in order to make heat
extraction feasible, and not all geothermal sites are created equally. Regions that have well developed
geothermal systems are located in geologically active areas. These regions have continuous,
concentrated heat flow to the surface. The western United States has the best geothermal regions in the
country, while Iceland , New Zealand , the Philippines ,

Zoos Inhumane Research Paper
Zoos today are inhumane and cruel and should not be allowed in our society. I agree with the
statement that zoos are inhumane and should not be kept in captivity for the people s enjoyment. I
believe that it is cruel to hold these animals captive and not let them roam freely like they would in
their natural habitat. I also believe that by holding these animals captive, society is taking away the
rights of these animals to roam and is inflicting major side effects on these animals physical and
mental health. Not only are these animals being held in inadequate conditions, but the effects humans
have on them is also cruel and inhumane. Animals that are held in captivity for the majority of their
life will never get to experience the outside world in which they should rightfully be living in. These
animals are held in cages or sanctuaries that are not sustainable for the living conditions in which they
would have outside of the zoo. By living in such a small environment, animals experience a condition
called zoochosis. This condition causes an animal to experience bar biting, coprophagia, self
mutilation, circling, rocking, sawing, pacing, rolling, twisting, nodding of ... Show more content on

visiting these animals and throwing items at them, yelling at them and sometimes even beating on the

that animal. As stated in the article List of Pros and Cons of Zoos, This kind of behavior has an
extremely negative effect on animals, and it can often result in psychological damage to animals, and
sometimes it can even prove to be fatal. An animal should never have to endure such harsh treatment

Political Radicalization Examples
Radicalization is defined as the process of becoming more extreme, or regressing away from the
center of a spectrum, in belief and thusly action. This term is now more modernly used to describe
violent religious radicals in the religion of Islam. Radicalization however, can occur in any system that
contains more than one concrete set of thought. From the two party system of U.S, to the split of sikhs
and shia muslim ethnic groups, radicalization to either side, in example, liberal to conservative and
sikh to shia, is vehemently dangerous and ought to be avoided. Moderation, on the other hand, is the
trait of remaining in the center of a spectrum of thought, taking no personal stakes or dedication to
either side. In politics moderates are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moderation is the only manner of compromise and non violence in a reality which encourages division
and extremist tendencies. The ability to rationalize and interpret the desires of both sides of an
argument is essential in both higher order diplomacy and day to day leadership. Becoming a radical in
any sense blinds one to the perspective of an entire side of a spectrum, and turns them into a diluted
amalgamation of evil something to be destroyed, not discussed with. The only true outcome of
radicalism is either the complete destruction of one side or the a stalemate, in which no progress can
be made. Both extremism of culture and politics are equally dangerous, for the sake of both life and
economic policy. Moderation is not the opposite site of the spectrum of extremism, it is the rejection
of extremism at all, considering it to be a waste of effort. A push towards the middle, away from the
growing concentration of the extremes in all political and cultural spectrums is the most pragmatic
means of reaching a zenith of peace and

Auditory System Papers
The Auditory System
The Auditory System is an incredibly complex organ system, because it not only allows us to hear, but
it also allows us to keep a sense of balance. The Auditory sound travels thru the air in the form of
sound waves. Our ears detect these sound waves and relays them to the brain, The Auditory System is
a complex system that transmits the sound waves into electric pulses that our brain can understand as
sound. The Auditory System is composed of 3 different parts, the Inner, Middle, and Outer Ear.
The Outer Ear is split into two components, the Pinna and the Tympanic cavity. The Pinna is the fatty
cartilage that is visible on both sides of the head. The Pinna s main function is to capture sound waves
and redirect them towards the ear canal, but to also protect the tympanic cavity. The Ear Canal
functions as an entryway for sound waves. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The inner ear consists of a complex series of tubes, running through the temporal bone of the skull.
Inside these tubes are a lot of smaller, more fragile tubes. The vestibular system is the region of the
inner ear where the semicircular canals converge, close to the cochlea. The vestibular system works
with the visual system to keep objects in view when the head is moved. Joint and muscle receptors are
also important in maintaining balance. The brain receives, interprets, and processes the information
from all these systems to create the sensation of balance. The Inner ear is where the vibrations from
sound waves turned into electric pulses that our brains can understand as sound. The cochlea is
responsible for turning the vibrations into electric pulses, in a process called transduction. When the
footplate of the stapes connects to the oval window, it causes the perilymph to move. The cochlea
propagates these mechanical signals as waves in the fluid and membranes, and then converts them to
nerve impulses which are transmitted to the

Mary Shelley s Life
Mary Shelley s Life/Inspirations of Frankenstein Can you guess who was born during the 8th year of
the French Revolution? It was a beautiful young women borned as Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin.
Mary was born on August 30, 1797 in London, England. Mary was the child of Mary Wollstonecraft
and William Godwin. She was later married to a man named Percy Bysshe Shelley. Mary s parents
were both writers which inspired her to later on in her life to write horror novels. Mary Shelley, the
famous author of Frankenstein , used the experience of her hardships in life to create gothic and
memorable novels that still can be appreciated by today s readers. If I was to describe Mary with one
word it would be misfortunate. Ever since birth she has been facing problems after problems. Two
weeks after birth, Mary s mother, Mary Wollstonecraft past away due to a severe fever. Mary
Wollstonecraft was a pioneer in feminist thinking and writing. She was influenced by Thomas Paine
that all women should have equal rights. When Wollstonecraft was younger she witnessed her mom
being verbally and physically abused by her father. Her father referred to her mother as a piece of
property who cannot have the same future as him due to her sex. After her mother s death,
Wollstonecraft decided to make her own livelihood with her sister Eliza and her best friend Fanny.
When Wollstonecraft was 28, she wrote a semi autobiographical novel called Maria which was later

Dehumanization Of Women In The Handmaids Tale
To dehumanize someone is to strip them of everything that makes them human, all their good
qualities, all their basic rights, everything that can label them an individual. Similarly, in Margaret
Atwood s The Handmaid s Tale, the women in the Republic of Gilead are degraded in such a way that
they are stripped of their previous selves. Women in Gilead are outfitted by their functions, forced to
have sex and they, especially handmaids, are used as tools. In The Handmaid s Tale, Atwood utilizes
motifs to further dehumanize the women of Gilead. To begin, the Republic of Gilead outfits women
based on their function to strip them of their individuality. The process starts by colour coding women
into easily identifiable class groups. This is seen when Offred makes her way to town, narrating the
scene and drawing attention to the other women by saying, There are other women with baskets, some
in red, some in the dull green of the Marthas (Atwood 27). Women in Gilead have been colour coded
to be easily identifiable and known under their respective colours, completely erasing their identities.
Furthermore, the colours they wear identify their sole purposes to society. When Offred first
introduces Econowives she notes that ...the striped dresses, red and blue and green... Econowives, they
re called. These women are not divided into functions. They have to do everything... (Atwood 27).
The Econowives are the wives or the poorer men, wearing the medley of all three colours to

Best Christian Movie Fireproof
In the list of the best Christian movies, Fireproof ranks among the top. The director was very keen in
effectively using music to create mood, give emotions, and tell about an individual scene. The film is
about Catherine Holt and Caleb, who are undergoing marital issues to the point of wanting to get a
divorce. The union is saved by a challenge where Caleb is requested by his father to practice what is
written in the love dare forty day challenge. At first, he did it half heartedly but after some time he

salvage the marriage. While praying, exercising and practicing the love dare each day he waits for
Catherine to notice and stop signing the divorce papers. The tune sets the mood of determination and

that love and marriage are not a place to expect smooth ride. It is used at the end of the movie when
Catherine and Caleb reconciled. It is a song of victory, thus, setting the mood of conquest. In

The Music Of The Pop Music Scene
M.I.A. emerged in the Indie pop music scene in 2002. M.I.A., also known as Maya Arulpragasam,
began her career in 2000 as a visual artist and filmmaker. After recording a documentary for the band
Elastica, they suggested she go into the music industry. Rather than just make music, Arulpragasam
wanted to make a statement that would be impacted politically, socially, and culturally. She sings
about third world countries and issues, specifically Sri Lanka in her album Arular. Arulpragasam drew
from the discrimination she experienced while hiding with her family during the Sri Lankan Civil War
and the horror of the massacre of the Tamil people. Arular, pushes important notions about a third
world that has no voice in a first world indie music platform. Arulpragasam issues her mission
statement Pull up the people, pull up the poor , defining war in the simplest of terms: You no like the
people they no like you/Then they go set it off with a big boom (Thornburgh).
Arulpragasam pursued art as a child at various schools, such as the Holy Family Convent, so that she
could work her way up her class. Arulpragasam explains that the darker skinned kids sat at the back by
the poor ones who played out in the street all day long (Hopper). Being a Tamil, she had darker skin,
so she was on the back row. But because of her art skills, she became useful during projects because of
her art skills and was able to break from the discrimination of the backrow.

Cultural Appropriation In Bounce And Hymn For The Weekend
Cultural Appropriation would not be a term that most people could explain, if asked unexpectedly .
What exactly is cultural appropriation? According to Susan Scafidi, a law professor and researcher of
cultural appropriation, it can be defined as Taking intellectual property, traditional knowledge, cultural
expressions, or artifacts from someone else s culture without permission. The most difficult aspect
involving cultural appropriation is correctly being able to identify it, because there are many ways in
which someone is able to present a culture that is not his/her own without offending that particular
cultural group. Musical artists are susceptible and in many ways guilty of cultural appropriation
through the medium of music videos. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hinduism, the prevalent religion of India can be complicated yet attractive to westerners due to its
seemingly other worldly gods, practices, and views when seen from a typical westerner s point of
view. This can explain the attractiveness for these artists to use India as a backdrop to their music
videos but if the artists knew the meanings behind the many Hindu characteristics shown, would they
be hesitant to release the video in retrospect, in fear of offending someone that truly identifies with
Indian culture? Both videos show children throwing colored chalk at one another. This is common
practice during the Holi Festival, a celebration originating in Southeast Asia pertaining to the Hindu
religion. The Holi Festival is the day to end and rid oneself of past errors, to end conflicts by meeting
others, a day to forget and forgive. People pay or forgive debts, as well as deal anew with those in
their lives. Holi also marks the start of spring, and for many the start of the new year. Neither videos
accurately portray the Holi Festival practices when put into context to their song when observing the
lyrics to both songs. Mindlessly inserting the children throwing colored chalk for visual aspects can
leave negative feelings to Hindus to see the Holi festival as a day for real beginnings . Other religious
aspects shown in the videos are what the artists themselves are seen wearing. In Bounce Iggy is shown
wearing a red bindi on her head. This signifies marriage in India and since Iggy herself is not married,
this can be seen as cultural appropriation. In Hymn for the Weekend , Beyoncé is seen wearing henna
or mehndi designs on her hands. In India, these artistic designs are applied for ceremonies, so Beyoncé
wearing them as a visual aspect for her video can be another case of cultural appropriation. A

The Truth About Stories By Thomas King
In the book, the Truth About Stories, Thomas King sheds light on the power of stories. King explicitly
enforces that one must take caution in the way he or she tells a story, since it will shape one s
thoughts, decision making and future (2). Through the use of literature, King weaves his way through
native history, anecdote by anecdote, informing his readers about the importance of storytelling.
Stories are wondrous things, the author writes. And they are dangerous. (9). To prove this, King
mentions two creation stories; the differences in these stories is the way in which they are told. The
first is a famous native story called, the woman who fell from the sky ; this story is told in a complex,
persuasive way (10 20). This story discusses a society emphasizing the value of cooperation as the
animals work together to create a better world (21 22). The second story, a Judeo Christian biblical
story, describes a Western Capitalist society. It is told in a historical, punitive and direct fashion,
underlining a society of boundaries and punishment. King highlights that storytelling is not just simply
telling a story, rather it is how the stories are told. King uses these particular stories to show how
different stories shape people s perspectives, which impacts their ideas, thoughts and decision making.
Therefore he addresses how sensitive storytelling may be, for once a story is told, it can never be
taken back (10). This is true in all realms of life, cautioning

Spring days, and summer days, all sorts of days that would be her own. She breathed a quick prayer
that life may be long. (The Story of an Hour) This shows that although he is gone and she is extremely
upset, she can now mover onto a new chapter of HER life, a life that she only has to live for herself
and no one else. On any given day she can go out and do what she pleases as she pleases and not have
a soul to worry about. This is where the bedroom scene changes into a place of mourning and
loneliness to a place of freedom and potential. The fact that it says and nobody was to follow in The
Story of an Hour, is basically saying that she is on her own to do as she pleases.
The bedroom alone is definitely a place of thought for Mrs. Mallard and directly symbolizes the two
different meanings of freedom and loneliness. The setting really gives us a great understanding of
what is going through her mind and symbolizes her emotions as she mourns and finds peace at the
death of her husband .

Analysis Of Using Tribe And Tribalism By David Wiley
In Using Tribe and Tribalism : to Misunderstand African Societies, David Wiley discussed the
problems using the words tribe and tribalism to classify African societies. Wiley argued throughout his
article the problems of creating ethnic labels among African societies. Various African groups of
people are different in their culture, ideas, customs, practices, and dialect. However, many African
societies were classified and labeled as tribes rather than being understood differently. Each African
society had and has today its own unique customs and practices. These customs and practices were
seen abstract and obscure to many social scientists and scientists of the 19th century. During this time
we see the rise of evolutionary

Freedom Of Expression Vs. Uncivilization Of Society
Freedom of Expression vs. Uncivilization of Society The novel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,
is a story about a young white boy, Huck, who befriends a runaway slave, Jim, while both are on their
journey to freedom from the south in the early 1800 s. The author, Mark Twain, uses Huck to show the
reader that it takes strength to make one s own decisions and that a person should stand up for what is
right. The episodes that occur on land are much different than the episodes that happen on the river.
Not only is there a difference in the mentality of the characters, but in the actions they make too. The
theme of land versus river is a major motif throughout the novel. To begin with, the river is thought to
be a quiet and peaceful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The two characters both see the river as meaning different things to them. To Huck, the river
represents, no civilization which means no rules and that there is nobody there to tell him what to and
what not to do. To Jim, the river symbolizes the freedom he hopes to soon have, and the freedom that
the river will lead him to. As Huck and Jim are adventuring down the river, they come to the
realization that they need each other to survive. Jim needs Huck to survive the trip down the river, and
Huck needs Jim as a parental figure in his life. The river is the pathway Huck must take to mature in
his life. The farther down the river the two go the more Huck s maturity is strengthened. When Huck
encounters the two men passing by on their canoe in the river, they ask him who is on the raft with
him. Huck goes against what he knows to be right and replies, He s white ; this shows a sliver of the
inner thoughts one has in the racist world back in this time (Twain 68). Even though the raft Huck and
Jim are traveling on may not be the biggest means of transportation, the characters still feel as if they
have plenty of room to express their freedom of words and actions. This is shown when Huck says,
other places feel so cramped and smothery, but a raft. You feel mighty free and easy and comfortable
on a raft (Twain 88) . In the event that the two may run into somewhat of a problem, they can go back
to their raft on the river and get away from the society in which

Why Was The Scottsboro Boys Trial Unfair
The Scottsboro boys trial took place in March of 1931, a trial that was dictated by race and not by
actions. The accusations were faulty, as was the evidence. Yet the boys were all sentenced for death or
life imprisonment. The trial was unfair at least, the nine black boys were in the wrong place at the
wrong time.
The boys were riding a train to find work and instead got into a fight with some of the white men on
the train. The police were called and they came. Two women were also in the train car and out of fear
they reported they had been raped by the black men. The black men were then arrested and taken out
at gunpoint. They were put on trial a few days later.
The trial began in 1933, and it was ruled by race only. The first trail every

India s Opinion On Indian Theatre
The aim of this essay is to explore how Indian theatre has developed within Britain, society s opinion
on Indian performers in theatre and how it is now becoming more acceptable and respected in modern
day British theatre. It is very clear that ethnical established ways of thinking have always been
challenged in Indian theatre performance for several reasons. These consist of the disadvantages faced
by the ethnic groups on the British stage, the use of Indian languages, and how Indian Theatre is
looked upon by audiences Indian and non Indian. Tara Arts Theatre Company will be used as a case
study throughout this essay.
Firstly, in the report from, The Arts Britain Ignores it is highlighted that the historical disadvantages
faced by ethnic minority arts... (were) ... lack of premises to rehearse, lack of comparable back up that
is afforded to equivalent native British groups, lack of acceptance within the arts structure (Khan,
1976, cited in Hingorani, 2010, p. 4). From this it is apparent hat earlier on even though the Indian
theatre community were producing great plays they still had to work and overcome the barrier of not
having any help, support or encouragement from the mainstream British theatre industries and arts
councils.
These boundaries all lead up to Tara Arts Theatre Company. The birth of Tara Arts was created when a
male Asian youth called Gurdip Singh Chaggar was killed in a racial responsive attack. This took
place in London on 4 June 1976. (Hingorani, 2010,

Observations Of New Zealand Native And Non Native Birds In Relation To Vegetation Type. Abstract
New Zealand s landscape has changed extensively since the arrival of humans. Now, native and non
native species of both flora and fauna co exist. People enjoy having wildlife around them and in recent
years there has been a great deal of interest in urban wildlife. This study explores the concept of
whether native vegetation fosters the presence of native birds and/or non native vegetation fosters the
presence of non native birds. My working hypothesis is: there is no difference in the percentage of
native and non native birds between gardens having native or non native vegetation. Note: the word

The Role Of Traditional And Gestational Surrogacy
Surrogates are defined as a women who gestates a fetus for others, usually for a couple or another
woman. (Vaughn, 398) Surrogates have a few types of surrogacy, which are traditional and gestational
surrogacy. Traditional surrogacy is defined as the sperm from either the couple s male partner or a
donor is used to artificially inseminate the surrogate (the surrogate mother ). (Vaughn, 398) Then there
is Gestational surrogacy, which is defined as the surrogate receives a transferred embryo created
through IVF using the sperm and egg of others (the contracting couple of donors). Because the
gestational (also called the gestational carrier) does not contribute her own egg, she has no genetic
connection to the baby. (Vaughn, 398) In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Commodity comes into play with surrogacy because commodities are valuable because they are able
to provide enjoyment for the couple and one is able to put a price tag on them. In terms with
surrogacy, the surrogate mother is putting a price tag on her child and receives money for it for the
family that will be looking after the surrogate mother s child. That child will provide a sense of
happiness and turning that couple into a family. Vaughn states, For in this practice the natural mother
deliberately conceives a child with the intention of giving it up for material advantage. Her
renunciations of parental responsibilities is not done for the child s sake, nor for the sake of fulfilling
an interest she shares with the child, but typically for her own sake (and possibly, if altruism is a
motive, for the intended parents sakes). She and the couple who pay her to give up her parental rights
over her child thus treat her rights as a kind of property right. They thereby treat the child itself as a
kind of commodity, which may be properly bought and sold. (Vaughn, 473 474) This quote is evident
because parents seem to forget that children should always come first. Unfortunately with commodity,
a commodity has a lot to do with surrogacy. With surrogacy, this is where children have price tags and
that is why commodity exists in surrogacy.
Secondly, a surrogate mother provides a valued service

The objective of this report is to analyze the boutique hotel industry in Sri Lanka and the trends of the
industry at present and the key issues likely to change the formation of the industry in the future.
Tourism in Sri Lanka has been booming since the war came to an end also the recovery of the global
recession also has led to an increase in the number of tourists visiting the country. Therefore the need
to cater to the foreigners has led to the growth in the emerging Boutique Hotel Industry. Demand for
these hotels is increasing also due to the increasing standards of living of the people in Sri Lanka and

Both the design and style of city boutique hotels are far different from the traditional resort boutique
hotels. Modernism, and the interpretation of the 21st Century at times matched with historical material
and art are known to be modern, and found in most city boutique hotels. Technology is an huge factor,
whether it is technology that enhances the ambience and makes emotional contact between the guests
and the hard attributes of the building (such as lighting and music), or technology that is provided for
the convenience of hotel guests (such as in room DVD players, flat screen television sets, cordless
phones, and computers with high speed Internet access and the latest monitor genres).Entertainment in
boutique hotels is an important part in creating a lively, chic and trendy mind set. However, in the
boutique hotel concept, entertainment is not limited to events such as live music and performances;
the idea of a boutique hotel is entertainment in its own nature: a hip restaurant, lounge, and bar; an
exceptional theme; and visually spectacular decorations.

Services Director because he did not know what to do. Another key concern I learned was that Leigh

However, the plan called for a $66 million dollar cut in capital funding for environmental program and
land preservation compared to last year s budget. In doing so, water quality improvement projects will
get hit the hardest from the budget cut. This truly was a shock to the supporters for the Chesapeake
Bay and agriculture industry because this negates the possibility of continuing the talks on the issue of
the phosphorous pollution regulation. This imposed heated issues with reports of millions of dollars at
stake for Shore farmers and billions for industries located by the bay. This decision angered many
environmental supporters. Allison Prost, the Maryland Executive Director of the Chesapeake Bay

that the phosphorous pollution regulation was going to stay in place, which required Shore farmers to

The Montgomery Bus Boycott Part 1
An man from India deeply influenced a black man in America who persuaded black Americans to
peacefully seek civil rights. Blacks in America were once slaves. They had neither freedom nor rights.
Now, in the 20th century, segregation has been abolished and discrimination has largely been reduced
and blacks are more able to live freely as American citizens. In Early 1950 s, blacks did not have civil
rights, so they had to fight for their freedom. In 1955, blacks decided to rally together for social justice
and planned a boycott. This boycott became known as the Montgomery Bus Boycott. This boycott
was pivotal in the Civil Right Movement by energizing blacks, particularly in the South, to become
more involved in politics. This occurred with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At this time, other local activists have been looking for an occasion to start a boycott of the
Montgomery buses, where segregation was especially hurting black people. Most of the teachers of
Montgomery, called for a one day protest against the bus line, asking the blacks to stay at home or find
another way to get to work or school. This strike hurted the bus system. The success of that one day
protest persuaded Montgomery civil rights leaders to organize a larger scale boycott of the buses. The
NAACP organizers, particularly the leader, E.D. Nixon decided the most way to gain support and
spread the word in black communities in Alabama to enlist the help of local ministers and church
leaders. Nixon and NAACP established the Montgomery Improvement Association (MIA) to arrange
the boycott and at it, they appointed a twenty six year old minister, Rev. Martin Luther King Jr as its
president. King studied writings of Henry David Thoreau and Mohandas Gandhi. Their teachings
prescribed civil disobedience and nonviolent resistance to social justice. As they saw King at Dexter
Avenue Baptist Church and heard him say, the once dormant and quiescent Negro community was
now fully awake. After what Nixon heard and learned from King, he thought King would be a good
leader for this boycott. On December 8, 1955, the leaders of MIA met with the Montgomery mayor,
presenting them with their demands. Their requests

How Did North American Civilization Affect The Social...
Prior to European colonization, North America was home to many Native American Tribes. These
tribes spoke many different languages, had diverse social customs, and had different resources
available to them depending upon location. Two prominent native groups were the Pueblo People of
the Southwest, and the Tribes of the Mississippi River Valley. While these groups had some prominent
similarities, there were, in fact, many differences between them. The Pueblo People of the Southwest
inhabited thriving settlements in what are now Arizona, and New Mexico. Pueblo People had very
interesting living situations. They lived in multistoried buildings, which they shared with several other
families. These homes were built in place of the Anasazi settlements that had existed several years
before. Mississippians, however, lived in relatively small communities (typically between 500 and
2000 people) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Agriculture flourished in the southwest due to an elaborate system of canals, dams, and terraces which
helped crops thrive in the warm climate. The pueblo diet, much like that of the Anasazi before them,
consisted of brown beans, corn and squash. The Pueblo people also domesticated turkeys, and used
dogs to hunt wild game. The Pueblo thrived as far as agriculture was concerned. The warm climate
made for reliable food sources which kept them strong. This was likely helpful in their revolt against
the Spanish, as well as in future encounters with the Europeans. The tribes of the Mississippi River
Valley struggled with agriculture. The Little Ice Age, which took place from 1350 to 1800, had a
detrimental effect on the climate, and made it difficult to successfully grow crops. The poor weather,
along with the fact that wars were becoming more frequent, did not benefit Mississippians. Starvation
became more and more prevalent as crops were not growing, and it was too dangerous to hunt due to

educational and emotional disparities more than any other American population as well. Black women
are also stereotyped for being loud mouthed, hypersexualized, cantankerous, having many children,
hopelessly single and being stubborn and overly independent in today s society. Significance: Black
women are easily considered one of the most severely marginalized groups in the United States
because not only did they have to combat being enslaved which encoded a heavy deal of oppression
on its own they also had to fight the term Jezebel which was a way of creating a huge gap between
white women and black women. This placed Black enslaved women at the absolute bottom of food

Synopsis Of A Book Meridian By Alice Walker Essay
Nataliya Tyshchenko

GE Cluster: America in the Sixties
4 November 2016
Time Warp: Meridian In psychology, the primacy effect is defined as the tendency to recall primary
information better than information divulged later on. This observation can be extended to how first
impressions resonate well in the minds of humans. In her historical novel, Meridian, author Alice
Walker reshapes perceptions about who holds power and moral authority and what determines this by
making time out of joint (choosing an interesting narrative structure, with a most important beginning)
and employing symbolism and repetition. Abandoning chronological order forces a reader to
constantly abandon preconceived notion about characters, events, movements, and even themselves.
As a result, the meaning of reality, life, and what is normal is resignified . The effect of narrative
structure is evident when Walker s choice for the beginning of the novel affects the reader s perception
of moral authority and power for the rest of the novel. By opening with multiple, and incredibly
varying, definitions of the word Meridian, Walker establishes her idea that the main character is tough
to pin down. Who she is will not be clear to the audience. This perhaps presages that Meridian s moral
authority and power will not be easily defined or pinned down either and it is useless to try to assign a
secondary meaning ( myth ) to her because it will always shift. Though it is human

Essay on Sweatshops
Sweatshops in the United States
Americans love to shop. With malls everywhere you go, shopping just might be America s favorite

shoes come from? When I was younger, well, actually until recently, I always thought they were all

however, that for the most part, clothes are still made on sewing machines, by people, and often under
circumstances that we can only imagine.

In some cases, I ve learned, with brute force. On August 2, 1995, the Department of Labor raided a
factory in El Monte, California. There they found 72 garment workers, mostly Thai and Mexican
immigrants, being forced to work 17 hours a day at wages between $.60 and $1.60 and hour. They
were literally held captive at the factory by barbwire and armed guards. Employees were threatened
with rape and violence if they attempted escape. The El Monte sweatshop was finally discovered when
an employee escaped through a ventilation shaft.
In many sweatshops, however, the workers are there voluntarily. Even the meager wages earned are
more than the undocumented immigrants workers would earn in their home countries. As long as there
is a supply of willing workers, sweatshops will flourish.
So what can be done? How can the sweatshop problem in the United States be resolved? Is there even
a plausible solution? Through my research for this speech I have discovered that everyone seems to
have a solution, yet putting the solutions into action is another thing altogether.
Of the many solutions to the problem, the main, and most obvious solution, is government regulation.

contractors, in addition to 6 million American

Median Voter Theorem Essay
Question 1: The most central prediction in the median voter theorem is that the voters opinion is on a
linear spectrum, while this is quite applicable in the US it is often not case in many other countries as
the two party system is not as prevalent. The theorem also predicts that voters see their utility as single
peak spectrum, with only their most preferred utility at the top (The Median Voter Theorem and its
Applications, Joshua Poulette, p. 2). These two are very central in determining the efficacy of the
median voter theorem and must always be true for it to be accurate. It is basically based around the
assumption that all voters have a one highest priority, and that they are given two options when voting
on a single issue at a time. Also, that there are no ideological or financial pressure or incentive in play,

paternalism requires checking it with a lot of parameters. Firstly, I would say this is very much a

ideology and religion. This also makes it an example of impure paternalism, since the people deciding
this can have a skewed opinion given their personal bias. Seeing as this does not affect anyone but the
people involved it has truly no effect on society at large, apart from the need to draw up some new
laws regarding legal issues and taxation for polygamous unions, I cannot see any reason for this being

The Bond Of Bonds In The Novel By Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
In all our contacts it is probably the sense of being really needed and wanted which gives us the
greatest satisfaction and creates the most lasting bond. Eleanor Roosevelt. The bonds that people share
are truly one of spectacular things about people. We are born into families, choose our friends, and
work with peers in a job situation. These bonds we build shape the people we are and create who we
are as people. This idea has been proven in several ways especially in modern entertainment. The
shows, movies and books given to the public are laced with stories of the bonds between people. This
can been clearly seen in all of the versions of Sherlock Homes that have published throughout the
years. In the original novella written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle had who will establish characters but
he gave them a very strange relationship. Through much deliberation it seems the best way to describe
Sherlock and Watson s relationship is calling friendship, but throughout out all of its adaptations
screenwriters have adapted their relationship various ways. Due to the well designed characters
Sherlock and Homes are able to fit many different times of relationship. These characters fit these
molds so well because, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle established two incricatedly crafted characters named
Sherlock Holmes and John Watson; his iconic characters have been recreated throughout time with
different interpretations making them still relevant today. In Sir Arthur Conan Doyle s Novella, the

Childhood Conduct Disorder Essay
Introduction: A History and Brief Overview of Conduct Disorder Conduct Disorder has been a part of
the American Psychological Association s Diagnostic Statistical Manuel (DSM) since its original
release date in 1994. Although, there is new information about the disorder that was previously
unknown, Conduct Disorder is distinguished by a repetitive and persistent pattern of behavior in
which the basic rights of others or major age appropriate norms or rules are violated (American
Psychiatric Association, 1994.) This mild, moderate, or severe antisocial behavior begins to appear

Moffitt contends adolescent onset is due to socialization and idolization of socially deviant peers and
public figures (Passamonti et al., 2010.) However, the theory of the early onset subgroup being
biologically based is contradicted by the fact that the children with either a biological parent or an
adoptive parent (with no biological relation) with Antisocial Personality Disorder are more likely to
develop the disorder themselves than other children (American Psychiatric Association, 1994.) This
suggests that both subgroups are heavily influenced by environmental factors more so than biological
and that there modeling is taking place when the disorder is developing. Other differences between the
early onset Conduct Disorder and adolescent onset Conduct Disorder is that with early onset, the
children are more commonly male, have heavily disturbed peer relationships, and show more physical
aggression towards others. This is compared to those diagnosed with adolescent onset Conduct
Disorder where it is less likely that there will be aggressive behaviors displayed and the relationships
tend to be more normative (American Psychiatric Association, 1994.) There is also a difference in
symptoms with gender. Males are more likely to be aggressive and destructive

Characteristics Of Jean Baptiste De Lamarck And Charles...
Many research scientists virtually agree as to the importance of an elucidation of evolutionary
mechanisms as the unification for acquisition and assumption of information concerning the origin,
history, and diversity of life on earth. Evolution is construed as an overall gradual development of
living organisms from differentiated pre historic to current times. It represents the process whereby
modern organisms descend from ancient ancestors. Across decades of years, evidence from
innumerable sources have indicated that the concepts put forth by Jean Baptiste de Lamarck and
Charles Darwin represents the base of scientific research in the field of evolution. However, there are
circumstantial evidence which proves that Darwin s theoretical beliefs ... Show more content on

Lamarck s theory of Inheritance of Acquired Characteristics has been disproved. This was done in two
major ways. The first is by experimentation using the scientific method. We have seen numerous real
life phenomenon and observed that changes that occur in an organism during life are not passed on to
the offspring. If a dog s back limbs are damaged and unusable, its offspring are still born with all legs
usable. This and other such examples show that Lamarck s theory does not explain how life formed
and became the way it is. Secondly, Lamarck s theory has been proven wrong by the study of genetics.
Darwin knew that traits are passed on, but he never understood how they are passed on. During the
time when Darwin published is first research on evolution, Gregor Mendel, who discovered genetics,
was just starting his experiments. However, now we know extensively about genetics, and we know
that the only way for traits to be passed on is through genes, and that genes cannot be affected by the
outside world. The only thing that can be affected is which gene sets there are in a population, and this
is determined by which individuals die and which ones live. Although Darwin won acceptance for
evolution, his efforts to establish the validity of natural selection, his primary mechanism of evolution,
were less

An Investigation Of A Burglary Report
On 6 20 2016 at about 1743 hrs I was dispatched to 407 6th ST NE for a residential burglary report.
Enroute dispatched advised that the homeowner, Susan Cwanila, had called 911 to report a burglary to
her residence. I arrived on scene and contacted Susan and her boyfriend, Wayne Briggs, who also lives
at the address. Susan stated that they both left the residence this morning around 0800 hours and when
they returned home they noticed that someone had forced entry to their residence. Susan stated that
they noticed someone had attempted to break open a double panel window, however, only the first
window was broken and no signs of access to the residence were made at that point. However, also on
the back side of the residence they located another window which had been broken. Upon entering
through that window, access could have been made to the residence. Wayne also stated that damage
was found on the window style air conditioning unit on the side of the residence. Suggesting that
someone had attempt to removed the unit and gain access to the residence at that point. Susan stated
that several of the screens for the windows around the residence were removed and found laying
around the yard. Susan also stated that they noticed fresh foot prints in their garden area. Susan stated
the dirt had recently been racked and no foot prints should have been in the dirt. The dirt was on the
far back side of the residence and led to their fence line. It is the same area of the

Evolution of Management Theory
In reality, every person in a management position handles the way that they do their job differently.
Management is one of the most important parts of an organization, if not the most important.
However, the development of management in organizations has changed dramatically from the late
eighteenth century to now. In the eighteenth century, managers relied on power and setting strict rules
to get the job done. Modern day managers have to rely heavily on leading by example and doing the
right things. As can see, management has changed drastically over the last few centuries. As leaders
changed in the work place, so did the way ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Scientific Management Frederick W. Taylor (1856 1915), who was a mechanical engineer, pioneered
scientific management in the early 1900 s. Taylor believed that it was the management s duty to
designate jobs for workers and motivate them to achieve the task they re assigned. He introduced five
principles that make up the structure of scientific management, four are universal and one is
contingent. Taylor labeled the first principle, A Large Daily Task. The idea was that each member of
the organization, from top to bottom, should have a clearly defined task assigned each day. The second
principle labeled Standard Conditions, specified that: (a) each worker s task should call for a full day s
work, and (b) each worker should be given such standardized conditions and appliances as will enable
him to accomplish his task with certainty. Again, Taylor clearly believed in assigning accomplishable
tasks to workers.
The third and fourth principles concern individual performance; their highly descriptive labels are:
High Pay for Success and Loss in Case of Failure, respectively. Taylor s fifth principle, unlabeled and
contingent, prescribes, for companies with an advanced state of organization ...that tasks should be
made so difficult that they can only be accomplished by a first class man. This idea, and the concept of
the first class man, indicate Taylor s belief that workers should be systematically

Historia De Los De La Computacion

with Clare. Irene is vengeful, but continues to be very loyal. Irene threw Clare out of a window, and
exposed her secret to her husband out of revenge. Clare kept a secret of being African American from
her husband who was a white man in the Harlem Renaissance era. Irene knew if Clare s husband knew
she was black he would leave her and Clare s life would fall apart, so that is what she did. Irene shows

Scott Heron first recorded it for his 1970 album Small Talk at 125th and Lenox, on which he recited the lyrics, accompanied by congas and bongo drums. The message of the song is the elusive nature of political culture in Nixons America and the inability of the mainstream to capture the real heart of the people. Heron uses cultural refrences from the 1970s to express his angerin the 1970s. • 5. Changes During The Agricultural Community Essay Due to changes in the agricultural community there was in early nineteenth century East Anglia a significant situation of underemployment within the agricultural labourers community. At this time it was also being recognised that there was an ever increasing growth in population; for instance: several landowners and journalists attributed the problems of rural society to the size of the labourers families and to their tendency to marry at an early age. It has been suggested that the average size of the agricultural labourers household was 4.9. This population rise in turn put pressure on the supply of housing, resulting in many agricultural labouring families living in small, squalid and overcrowded cottages, many consisting of just one room, with no ceiling, just the bare roof tiles and a clay floor. The building itself would have been constructed from unbound stone or wattle and mud. It can be suggested that: The vegetable substances mixed with the mud to make it bind, rapidly decompose, leaving the walls porous. The earth of the floor is full of vegetable matter [...] it is peculiarly liable to damp. It can be suggested therefore that the growth of population, coupled with the deterioration of living standards within agricultural communities of East Anglia contributed towards the pauperisation of the agricultural labourers and their families. The aforementioned growth of population within the agricultural communities of East Anglia led to an ever increasing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Geothermal Energy from the Earth Geothermal energy Energy from the Earth What could be more natural or plentiful? The source of geothermal power is the heat contained inside the Earth; heat so intense that it creates molten magma. There are a few different types of geothermal energy that can be tapped. Some geothermal systems are formed when hot magma near the surface (1,500 to 10,000 meters deep) directly heats groundwater. The heat generated from these hot spots flows outward toward the surface, manifesting as volcanoes, geysers, and hot springs . Naturally occurring hot water and steam can be tapped by energy conversion technology to generate electricity or to produce hot water for direct use. Other geothermal systems are formed even when no magma is nearby as magma heats rocks which in turn heat deeply circulating groundwater. In order to maximize the energy gleaned from these so called hot dry rocks, geothermal facilities will often fracture the hot rocks and pump water into and from them in order to use the heated water to generate electricity. The concentration of geothermal energy at any given location must be quite high in order to make heat extraction feasible, and not all geothermal sites are created equally. Regions that have well developed geothermal systems are located in geologically active areas. These regions have continuous, concentrated heat flow to the surface. The western United States has the best geothermal regions in the country, while Iceland , New Zealand , the Philippines , ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I agree with the statement that zoos are inhumane and should not be kept in captivity for the people s enjoyment. I believe that it is cruel to hold these animals captive and not let them roam freely like they would in their natural habitat. I also believe that by holding these animals captive, society is taking away the rights of these animals to roam and is inflicting major side effects on these animals physical and mental health. Not only are these animals being held in inadequate conditions, but the effects humans have on them is also cruel and inhumane. Animals that are held in captivity for the majority of their life will never get to experience the outside world in which they should rightfully be living in. These animals are held in cages or sanctuaries that are not sustainable for the living conditions in which they would have outside of the zoo. This term is now more modernly used to describe violent religious radicals in the religion of Islam. Radicalization however, can occur in any system that contains more than one concrete set of thought. From the two party system of U.S, to the split of sikhs and shia muslim ethnic groups, radicalization to either side, in example, liberal to conservative and sikh to shia, is vehemently dangerous and ought to be avoided. The only true outcome of radicalism is either the complete destruction of one side or the a stalemate, in which no progress can be made. Both extremism of culture and politics are equally dangerous, for the sake of both life and economic policy. The Auditory sound travels thru the air in the form of sound waves. Our ears detect these sound waves and relays them to the brain, The Auditory System is a complex system that transmits the sound waves into electric pulses that our brain can understand as sound. The Auditory System is composed of 3 different parts, the Inner, Middle, and Outer Ear. The Outer Ear is split into two components, the Pinna and the Tympanic cavity. • 13. Dehumanization Of Women In The Handmaids Tale To dehumanize someone is to strip them of everything that makes them human, all their good qualities, all their basic rights, everything that can label them an individual. Similarly, in Margaret Atwood s The Handmaid s Tale, the women in the Republic of Gilead are degraded in such a way that they are stripped of their previous selves. Women in Gilead are outfitted by their functions, forced to have sex and they, especially handmaids, are used as tools. In The Handmaid s Tale, Atwood utilizes motifs to further dehumanize the women of Gilead. To begin, the Republic of Gilead outfits women based on their function to strip them of their individuality. The process starts by colour coding women into easily identifiable class groups. This is seen when Offred makes her way to town, narrating the scene and drawing attention to the other women by saying, There are other women with baskets, some in red, some in the dull green of the Marthas (Atwood 27). Women in Gilead have been colour coded to be easily identifiable and known under their respective colours, completely erasing their identities. Furthermore, the colours they wear identify their sole purposes to society. When Offred first introduces Econowives she notes that ...the striped dresses, red and blue and green... • 15. The Music Of The Pop Music Scene M.I.A. emerged in the Indie pop music scene in 2002. M.I.A., also known as Maya Arulpragasam, began her career in 2000 as a visual artist and filmmaker. After recording a documentary for the band Elastica, they suggested she go into the music industry. Rather than just make music, Arulpragasam wanted to make a statement that would be impacted politically, socially, and culturally. She sings about third world countries and issues, specifically Sri Lanka in her album Arular. Arulpragasam drew from the discrimination she experienced while hiding with her family during the Sri Lankan Civil War and the horror of the massacre of the Tamil people. Arular, pushes important notions about a third world that has no voice in a first world indie music platform. Arulpragasam issues her mission statement Pull up the people, pull up the poor , defining war in the simplest of terms: You no like the people they no like you/Then they go set it off with a big boom (Thornburgh). Arulpragasam pursued art as a child at various schools, such as the Holy Family Convent, so that she could work her way up her class. Arulpragasam explains that the darker skinned kids sat at the back by the poor ones who played out in the street all day long (Hopper). Being a Tamil, she had darker skin, so she was on the back row. What exactly is cultural appropriation? According to Susan Scafidi, a law professor and researcher of cultural appropriation, it can be defined as Taking intellectual property, traditional knowledge, cultural expressions, or artifacts from someone else s culture without permission. The most difficult aspect involving cultural appropriation is correctly being able to identify it, because there are many ways in which someone is able to present a culture that is not his/her own without offending that particular cultural group. Musical artists are susceptible and in many ways guilty of cultural appropriation through the medium of music videos. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hinduism, the prevalent religion of India can be complicated yet attractive to westerners due to its seemingly other worldly gods, practices, and views when seen from a typical westerner s point of view. This can explain the attractiveness for these artists to use India as a backdrop to their music videos but if the artists knew the meanings behind the many Hindu characteristics shown, would they be hesitant to release the video in retrospect, in fear of offending someone that truly identifies with Indian culture? Both videos show children throwing colored chalk at one another. This is common practice during the Holi Festival, a celebration originating in Southeast Asia pertaining to the Hindu religion. The Holi Festival is the day to end and rid oneself of past errors, to end conflicts by meeting others, a day to forget and forgive. People pay or forgive debts, as well as deal anew with those in their lives. Holi also marks the start of spring, and for many the start of the new year. Neither videos accurately portray the Holi Festival practices when put into context to their song when observing the lyrics to both songs. Mindlessly inserting the children throwing colored chalk for visual aspects can leave negative feelings to Hindus to see the Holi festival as a day for real beginnings . Other religious aspects shown in the videos are what the artists themselves are seen wearing. In Bounce Iggy is shown wearing a red bindi on her head. This signifies marriage in India and since Iggy herself is not married, this can be seen as cultural appropriation. In Hymn for the Weekend , Beyoncé is seen wearing henna or mehndi designs on her hands. In India, these artistic designs are applied for ceremonies, so Beyoncé wearing them as a visual aspect for her video can be another case of cultural appropriation. A ... • 17. The Truth About Stories By Thomas King In the book, the Truth About Stories, Thomas King sheds light on the power of stories. King explicitly enforces that one must take caution in the way he or she tells a story, since it will shape one s thoughts, decision making and future (2). Through the use of literature, King weaves his way through native history, anecdote by anecdote, informing his readers about the importance of storytelling. Stories are wondrous things, the author writes. And they are dangerous. (9). To prove this, King mentions two creation stories; the differences in these stories is the way in which they are told. The first is a famous native story called, the woman who fell from the sky ; this story is told in a complex, persuasive way (10 20). This story discusses a society emphasizing the value of cooperation as the animals work together to create a better world (21 22). The second story, a Judeo Christian biblical story, describes a Western Capitalist society. It is told in a historical, punitive and direct fashion, underlining a society of boundaries and punishment. King highlights that storytelling is not just simply telling a story, rather it is how the stories are told. King uses these particular stories to show how different stories shape people s perspectives, which impacts their ideas, thoughts and decision making. Therefore he addresses how sensitive storytelling may be, for once a story is told, it can never be taken back (10). This is true in all realms of life, cautioning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Various African groups of people are different in their culture, ideas, customs, practices, and dialect. However, many African societies were classified and labeled as tribes rather than being understood differently. Each African society had and has today its own unique customs and practices. Uncivilization Of Society Freedom of Expression vs. Uncivilization of Society The novel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, is a story about a young white boy, Huck, who befriends a runaway slave, Jim, while both are on their journey to freedom from the south in the early 1800 s. The author, Mark Twain, uses Huck to show the reader that it takes strength to make one s own decisions and that a person should stand up for what is right. The episodes that occur on land are much different than the episodes that happen on the river. Not only is there a difference in the mentality of the characters, but in the actions they make too. The two characters both see the river as meaning different things to them. To Huck, the river represents, no civilization which means no rules and that there is nobody there to tell him what to and what not to do. To Jim, the river symbolizes the freedom he hopes to soon have, and the freedom that the river will lead him to. As Huck and Jim are adventuring down the river, they come to the realization that they need each other to survive. Jim needs Huck to survive the trip down the river, and Huck needs Jim as a parental figure in his life. The river is the pathway Huck must take to mature in his life. The farther down the river the two go the more Huck s maturity is strengthened. When Huck encounters the two men passing by on their canoe in the river, they ask him who is on the raft with him. Huck goes against what he knows to be right and replies, He s white ; this shows a sliver of the inner thoughts one has in the racist world back in this time (Twain 68). Even though the raft Huck and Jim are traveling on may not be the biggest means of transportation, the characters still feel as if they have plenty of room to express their freedom of words and actions. This is shown when Huck says, other places feel so cramped and smothery, but a raft. You feel mighty free and easy and comfortable on a raft (Twain 88) . India s Opinion On Indian Theatre The aim of this essay is to explore how Indian theatre has developed within Britain, society s opinion on Indian performers in theatre and how it is now becoming more acceptable and respected in modern day British theatre. It is very clear that ethnical established ways of thinking have always been challenged in Indian theatre performance for several reasons. These consist of the disadvantages faced by the ethnic groups on the British stage, the use of Indian languages, and how Indian Theatre is looked upon by audiences Indian and non Indian. Tara Arts Theatre Company will be used as a case study throughout this essay. Firstly, in the report from, The Arts Britain Ignores it is highlighted that the historical disadvantages faced by ethnic minority arts... These boundaries all lead up to Tara Arts Theatre Company. The birth of Tara Arts was created when a male Asian youth called Gurdip Singh Chaggar was killed in a racial responsive attack. (Vaughn, 398) Surrogates have a few types of surrogacy, which are traditional and gestational surrogacy. Traditional surrogacy is defined as the sperm from either the couple s male partner or a donor is used to artificially inseminate the surrogate (the surrogate mother ). (Vaughn, 398) Then there is Gestational surrogacy, which is defined as the surrogate receives a transferred embryo created through IVF using the sperm and egg of others (the contracting couple of donors). Commodity comes into play with surrogacy because commodities are valuable because they are able to provide enjoyment for the couple and one is able to put a price tag on them. In terms with surrogacy, the surrogate mother is putting a price tag on her child and receives money for it for the family that will be looking after the surrogate mother s child. That child will provide a sense of happiness and turning that couple into a family. Vaughn states, For in this practice the natural mother deliberately conceives a child with the intention of giving it up for material advantage. Her renunciations of parental responsibilities is not done for the child s sake, nor for the sake of fulfilling an interest she shares with the child, but typically for her own sake (and possibly, if altruism is a motive, for the intended parents sakes). She and the couple who pay her to give up her parental rights over her child thus treat her rights as a kind of property right. They thereby treat the child itself as a kind of commodity, which may be properly bought and sold. (Vaughn, 473 474) This quote is evident because parents seem to forget that children should always come first. Unfortunately with commodity, a commodity has a lot to do with surrogacy. With surrogacy, this is where children have price tags and that is why commodity exists in surrogacy. Secondly, a surrogate mother provides a valued service ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These tribes spoke many different languages, had diverse social customs, and had different resources available to them depending upon location. Two prominent native groups were the Pueblo People of the Southwest, and the Tribes of the Mississippi River Valley. While these groups had some prominent similarities, there were, in fact, many differences between them. The Pueblo People of the Southwest inhabited thriving settlements in what are now Arizona, and New Mexico. Pueblo People had very interesting living situations. The Pueblo thrived as far as agriculture was concerned. The warm climate made for reliable food sources which kept them strong. This was likely helpful in their revolt against the Spanish, as well as in future encounters with the Europeans. The tribes of the Mississippi River Valley struggled with agriculture. Significance: Black women are easily considered one of the most severely marginalized groups in the United States because not only did they have to combat being enslaved which encoded a heavy deal of oppression on its own they also had to fight the term Jezebel which was a way of creating a huge gap between white women and black women. • 34. Synopsis Of A Book Meridian By Alice Walker Essay Nataliya Tyshchenko Professors Aberbach, Decker, Fink GE Cluster: America in the Sixties 4 November 2016 Time Warp: Meridian In psychology, the primacy effect is defined as the tendency to recall primary information better than information divulged later on. This observation can be extended to how first impressions resonate well in the minds of humans. In her historical novel, Meridian, author Alice Walker reshapes perceptions about who holds power and moral authority and what determines this by making time out of joint (choosing an interesting narrative structure, with a most important beginning) and employing symbolism and repetition. Abandoning chronological order forces a reader to constantly abandon preconceived notion about characters, events, movements, and even themselves. As a result, the meaning of reality, life, and what is normal is resignified . The effect of narrative structure is evident when Walker s choice for the beginning of the novel affects the reader s perception of moral authority and power for the rest of the novel. By opening with multiple, and incredibly varying, definitions of the word Meridian, Walker establishes her idea that the main character is tough to pin down. Who she is will not be clear to the audience. This perhaps presages that Meridian s moral authority and power will not be easily defined or pinned down either and it is useless to try to assign a secondary meaning ( myth ) to her because it will always shift. This mild, moderate, or severe antisocial behavior begins to appear either in childhood, categorized as early onset conduct disorder , or in adolescence after ten years of age, classified as adolescent onset conduct disorder ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moffitt contends adolescent onset is due to socialization and idolization of socially deviant peers and public figures (Passamonti et al., 2010.) However, the theory of the early onset subgroup being biologically based is contradicted by the fact that the children with either a biological parent or an adoptive parent (with no biological relation) with Antisocial Personality Disorder are more likely to develop the disorder themselves than other children (American Psychiatric Association, 1994.) This suggests that both subgroups are heavily influenced by environmental factors more so than biological and that there modeling is taking place when the disorder is developing. Other differences between the early onset Conduct Disorder and adolescent onset Conduct Disorder is that with early onset, the children are more commonly male, have heavily disturbed peer relationships, and show more physical aggression towards others. This is compared to those diagnosed with adolescent onset Conduct Disorder where it is less likely that there will be aggressive behaviors displayed and the relationships tend to be more normative (American Psychiatric Association, 1994.) There is also a difference in symptoms with gender. Males are more likely to be aggressive and destructive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. Characteristics Of Jean Baptiste De Lamarck And Charles... Many research scientists virtually agree as to the importance of an elucidation of evolutionary mechanisms as the unification for acquisition and assumption of information concerning the origin, history, and diversity of life on earth. Evolution is construed as an overall gradual development of living organisms from differentiated pre historic to current times. It represents the process whereby modern organisms descend from ancient ancestors. Across decades of years, evidence from innumerable sources have indicated that the concepts put forth by Jean Baptiste de Lamarck and Charles Darwin represents the base of scientific research in the field of evolution. However, there are circumstantial evidence which proves that Darwin s theoretical beliefs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lamarck s theory of Inheritance of Acquired Characteristics has been disproved. This was done in two major ways. The first is by experimentation using the scientific method. We have seen numerous real life phenomenon and observed that changes that occur in an organism during life are not passed on to the offspring. If a dog s back limbs are damaged and unusable, its offspring are still born with all legs usable. This and other such examples show that Lamarck s theory does not explain how life formed and became the way it is. Secondly, Lamarck s theory has been proven wrong by the study of genetics. Darwin knew that traits are passed on, but he never understood how they are passed on. During the time when Darwin published is first research on evolution, Gregor Mendel, who discovered genetics, was just starting his experiments. However, now we know extensively about genetics, and we know that the only way for traits to be passed on is through genes, and that genes cannot be affected by the outside world. The only thing that can be affected is which gene sets there are in a population, and this is determined by which individuals die and which ones live. Although Darwin won acceptance for evolution, his efforts to establish the validity of natural selection, his primary mechanism of evolution, were less ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, also on the back side of the residence they located another window which had been broken. Upon entering through that window, access could have been made to the residence. Wayne also stated that damage was found on the window style air conditioning unit on the side of the residence. Suggesting that someone had attempt to removed the unit and gain access to the residence at that point. Susan stated that several of the screens for the windows around the residence were removed and found laying around the yard. • 44. Evolution Of Management Theory And Management Theories Evolution of Management Theory Jamal Roberts Pasco Hernando State College Evolution of Management Theory In reality, every person in a management position handles the way that they do their job differently. Management is one of the most important parts of an organization, if not the most important. However, the development of management in organizations has changed dramatically from the late eighteenth century to now. In the eighteenth century, managers relied on power and setting strict rules to get the job done. Modern day managers have to rely heavily on leading by example and doing the right things. As can see, management has changed drastically over the last few centuries. As leaders changed in the work place, so did the way ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Scientific Management Frederick W. Taylor (1856 1915), who was a mechanical engineer, pioneered scientific management in the early 1900 s. Taylor believed that it was the management s duty to designate jobs for workers and motivate them to achieve the task they re assigned. He introduced five principles that make up the structure of scientific management, four are universal and one is contingent. Taylor labeled the first principle, A Large Daily Task. The idea was that each member of the organization, from top to bottom, should have a clearly defined task assigned each day. The second principle labeled Standard Conditions, specified that: (a) each worker s task should call for a full day s work, and (b) each worker should be given such standardized conditions and appliances as will enable him to accomplish his task with certainty. Again, Taylor clearly believed in assigning accomplishable tasks to workers. The third and fourth principles concern individual performance; their highly descriptive labels are: High Pay for Success and Loss in Case of Failure, respectively. Taylor s fifth principle, unlabeled and contingent, prescribes, for companies with an advanced state of organization ...that tasks should be made so difficult that they can only be accomplished by a first class man. This idea, and the concept of the first class man, indicate Taylor s belief that workers should be systematically ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
