Time Management
Time management is defined as; the process of planning and applying conscious control over the
amount of time it takes to effectively and efficiently finish a particular objective. These skills are
consider to be a very important trait in many aspects of life, with good reason. Having poor time
management skills causes increased stress, effecting your mood leading to negative personal and
professional consequences. Improving time management skills will results in better quality work,

However other motivators that are just important include, producing higher quality work,
eliminating the feelings of being rushed to complete an objective, and simply having more free
time with loved ones. My main goal of improving my time management skills requires me not only
to change the way I work on things, but changing my mentality on organization, multi tasking, and
procrastination. Achieving this goal will help me avoid falling behind in school and work,
decreasing the necessity of late night working sessions, inevitably reducing the intense feelings of
overwhelming stress.
The information I found through online sources include the eBook Superhuman Guide to Time
Management , by Ryan Cooper, and a few articles on time management, multi tasking, and
procrastination located on varies websites. I chose these websites based on their source of
information pertaining to the subject. Cooper s book covers all three of the topics that involved in
my action plan which include; organization, multi tasking and procrastination. First tip for
becoming organized is planning out a schedule, but in order to have a properly planned schedule,
one must understand what good schedule resembles. This includes allotting the proper amount
time, it must be sustainable, clearly defined, account for delays or unexpected events, and to set
tasks to complete a common goal. Now one must choose a medium to record the schedule in,

Cultural Impact On Cross-Cultural Communication
Introduction
When a company starts to do business in a foreign country, there are often many business practices
that are different and difficult to understand. Cross cultural communication refers to communication
conducted by people from different ethnic, social or gendered backgrounds, that is, communication
between people who do not share the common linguistic or cultural values. Through identifying
some most important influential factors in cross cultural communication, the paper points out some
steps and sugestions which can be use to make a successful meeting between an Australian young
business women and a traditional Japanese manager and discusses how those factors can lead to
cross cultural communication failures. After that, it provides solutions for main types of cross
cultural communication breakdown and strategies for enhancing effective communication. Finally,
the paper ends with a restatement of the main points, which is also the conclusion part.
Influential factors on cross cultural communication
Socio cultural influence
An important factor which also influences cross cultural communication is the socio cultural effect.
From the meaning of culture mentioned above, it is not difficult to see that socio cultural influence
is crucial to a successful cross cultural communication. Gumperz (2002) once wrote that ...socio
cultural assumptions concerning role and status relationships as well as socialvalues associated

King Lear Comparison Essay
Originally written at the start of the 17th century, William Shakespeare s play, King Lear, has
become one of his most famed works. The tragedy was first adapted for the screen in 1909 as a
black and white, silent film. Almost a century later in 2008, King Lear was once more brought to
life through director Trevor Nunn s film adaptation of the same name. Staring Ian McKellen as
King Lear, the film adaptation is based on the 2007 production of the play by the renowned Royal
Shakespeare Company. King Lear is a story of betrayal, loss and madness and to accurately convey
this while simultaneously distinguishing it from other screen renditions, Nunn alters the setting
and utilises the colours of the costumes and backdrop to symbolise the virtues... Show more content

Characters with titles that derive from English place names, such as the Duke of Cornwall, indicate
that the film takes place in England. Also, many scenes occur on heaths which can be commonly
found throughout England but rarely in Russia. However, the costumes worn by male characters,
especially Lear s scarlet tunic, closely resemble those worn by the Tsar and his high ranking
officials. Additionally, Lear s 100 knights have also been transformed into 100 singing, squat
dancing Cossacks which further reinforces the films connection to Imperial Russia as Cossacks are
an ethnic group known for their historic loyalty to the Tsar. The inclusion of rifles as well as glasses
suggests that King Lear is set in the 1800 s which coincides with both Victorian England and
Imperial Russia. Although using elements from two eras may confuse some viewers, historical and
geographical references are negligible to most audience members, allowing them to generate their
own opinion about the setting. At the same time, the setting makes Nunn s production unique.
Since 1909, King Lear has been adapted for the screen on numerous occasions with the majority of
these adaptations retaining the original setting of pre Christian England. By drastically changing
the setting, it distinguishes Nunn s King Lear from other

The Alchemist Reflection
Following your heart will set you apart
Have you ever imagined completing a task using only your heart and not being able to rely on
other people, just your heart? In The Alchemist Santiago has a dream he knows he needs to follow
and he knows he can t rely on other people in order to achieve it. In the novel, The Alchemist, by
Paulo Coelho, Santiago learns, Remember where your heart is, there you will find your treasure.
First of all, Santiago works hard with help along the way. Second of all, Santiago has a positive
outlook on life. Last, Santiago accepts things the way they come.
First of all, Santiago works hard with help along the way. For example, while Santiago is sulking
because a thief stole his money outside of a restaurant in Tangier, he remembers the wise words of
the King. Santiago doesn t want to give up and realizes that if he goes for his dream the universe
will help him: When you want something, all the universe conspires to help you achieve it (24).
Instead of sulking, he was more positive by being reminded of the king s wise words that
motivate him. Santiago was dwelling on the fact his money was stolen and had the mindset that it
was over for him but then when he is reminded of the king s words he is more motivated to
continue his journey. Finally, this is important because the King was beneficial to Santiago by
giving him these wise words, and as a result, Santiago is reminded of these words and feels more
motivated. To conclude, Santiago

How Did Eli Whitney Contribute To The Formation Of The...
The shipping ports and subsequent infrastructure that followed such as the New Orleans Cotton
Exchange that helped strengthen the economy were prompted by the creation of the cotton gin.
However, these outcomes were the result of several factors not including any foresight by Eli
Whitney. Instead, New Orleans ranking as among the main cottonmarkets in the world can be
attributed to the many other factors. Firstly, the success of New Orleans cotton market depended
heavily on the demand for the product. Demand of cotton from England rose drastically following
the creation of the steam engine, mechanical spinners, and the power loom; all creations of the
Industrial Revolution. These inventions reduced the cost of producing manufactured fabric and
subsequently decreased prices and increased demand. Aside from the cotton gin, the supply side
benefited from the varieties of cotton which... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The agency of Whitney as an entrepreneur was insignificant in building the legacy the cotton gin
maintains to this very day. Moreover, the cotton gin s undeniable impact defined by capital
accumulation, physical infrastructure, and the American Civil War benefited from factors beyond
Whitney s control. These include the Industrial Revolution, the declining tobacco industry, a poor
patent system, the mindset of manifest destiny that swept the nation, and conflicting attitudes
towards slavery from the South and North. These social and political structures catapulted the
cotton gin from a simple invention useful for producing cotton to a creation that developed
capitalism significantly in the United States. Eli Whitney and the cotton gin serve as a perfect
example of how capitalism is rarely transformed by specific individuals but rather various complex

Dark Triad In The Workplace
There is an increased interest for the impact of the Dark Triad in the workplace. How does one
spot these type of traits? Machiavellians are very skilled socially. They exhibit behaviors and
actions that seem to benefit those around them. However, the motivation is one of self gain. In
the workplace, this puts a Machiavellian at a disadvantage in teamwork and performance (Smith,
Wallace Jordan, 2016). Narcissists in the workplace are very competitive, take risks, and are very
opportunistic. They may have delusions of grandeur. Taking risks can be beneficial. For the
narcissist, the risks may be unnecessary and follows the high risk high reward principle (Smith,
Wallace Jordan, 2016). These types of people can look at their co workers

Silent Sam, By Julia Craven
Silent Sam
UNC can no longer say silent on Silent Sam, Julia Craven from the Huffington Post wrote. Silent
Sam is a memorial in the middle of the University of North Carolina s campus built to honor
students who left school and fought in the Civil War. The Civil War was a war between the
northern and southern states fought over slavery. Many students now think that the statue is
offensive because the people that it honors fought for the South and supported slavery.
Silent Sam was erected in 1913 for 321 UNC students who fought in the Civil War. It s called
Silent Sam because he has no ammunition so he s quiet and then just Sam. The university still had
classes during the war.The statue faces North as if it s fighting for the confederates. Some students
vandalized it because they thought that it was offencive and shouldn t be there. In conclusion The
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill says this is an important topic about something bad that
happened about the topic.
On the statue s 100th birthday there was controversy. They want U.N.C. to remove Silent Sam from
the campus. They think that it s rude to the Northerners from the war and stuff. The U.N.C. students
get mad because it s supposed to be about state movements not slavery. The statue is for students
who died in the war and that seems to slip some students minds. These students changed the campus
today they made an impact on UNC.In conclusion Kevin says that this an important topic And that

Seductive Advertising In Advertising
Weekend sports on TV have long been the prime time for beer, car, and entertainment advertisers
to bring out their most sexualized ads for the sport loving man, which is the majority of the
American male population (Craig 193). Like many industries, technology has also tried its hand
with a sexual ad that pushes the envelope of what is acceptable for the original geekbuyers and the
target mainstream buyer. Samsung aired their sexualized ad, Seductive Motion, in 2012 and
surprisingly achieved chart topping results with the mainstream buyer base. Shocking results are
not new for the ever changing technology industry but these related to Samsung s new
advertisement defy trends for technological ads and do bring up several important questions. Like,
what transpired in Samsung s controversial ad that warranted a positive response from the
mainstream consumer and how has nerd culture been popularized and integrated with current
mainstream ideals?
The Samsung Smart TV with motion control commercial uses sexual stereotypes and humor to
create not only a desire for the woman, but also the TV being sold. The ad begins with music
playing in the style of the movie Who Framed Roger Rabbit and shows a man working in a high
rise office building that glances up and spies something in the distance which instantly captivates
his attention. The view cuts to a scantily clothed woman waving towards the window of her
apartment which is across the street from the office building. The man

The Personal Development Of Nathan s Psychoanalytic Theory
According to Freud s Psychoanalytical theory, the ego serves as a balancing force between the id
and super ego. The healthy development of each of these components relies on having positive
interaction with one s parents throughout the first years of life. If a child grows up in a chaotic
home, it is likely that their development, according to the Psychoanalytic theory, will suffer. Nathan
s upbringing was filled with turbulence and instability as a result of his parents abusive relationship
and mother s mental illness. Freud s theory notes that the id is the first to develop and represents
the impulsive and instinctual portion of the unconscious mind. As the child progresses through
their development, their ego and, subsequently, super... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Erik and Nathan were friends in high school; they played in a garage band together, had frost
tipped hair and grungy plaid pullovers seemingly average boys from the early 90s. Erik s
parents are what Erik described as damned near perfect. His mother seems to fit a type that is
caring, appropriately concerned, and loving of Erik s artistic and post pubescent expressions.
His father is similarly supportive. Erik s mother remembers Nathan as a nice, well behaved kid.
She had mild intuitions around some troubling behavior: in particular, phone calls to his mother
during stay overs that, at times, lasted more than an hour, or his parent s hot and cold feelings
of his being in the band. It seemed to express, to her, helicopter parenting bordering on
problematic. Erik s family responded to what they knew of Nathan s situation with appropriate
concern and action. His mother made attempts to reach out to social services, once aware of
possible ongoing abuse within Nathan s home life. Social services told her his case would most
likely be overlooked, due to his older age. Nathan s mother, according to Nathan, had some very
serious issues in regards to sexual intimacy and boundaries. His father was physically abusive.

The Huron word for them meant black snakes. It was the Algonquin name iroqu which meant rattle

Members of the Nations speak Iroquoian languages that are distinctly different from those of other
Iroquoian speakers. This suggests that while the different Iroquoian tribes had a common historical
and cultural origin, they diverged as peoples over a sufficiently long time that their languages
became different. Archaeological evidence shows that Iroquois ancestors lived in the Great Lakes
region from at least 1000 A.D.
After becoming united in the League, the Iroquois invaded the Ohio River Valley in present day
Kentucky to seek additional hunting grounds. According to one pre contact theory, it was the
Iroquois who, by about 1200, had pushed tribes of the Ohio River Valley, such as the Quapaw
(Akansea) and Ofo (Mosopelea) out of the region in a migration west of the Mississippi River.
But, Robert La Salla listed the Mosopelean among the Ohio Valley peoples defeated by the
Iroquois in the early 1670s, during the later Beaver Wars. By 1673, the Siouan speaking groups
had settled in the Midwest, establishing what became known as their historical territories. Just as
the Siouan peoples were displaced by the Iroquois, they displaced less powerful tribes whom they
encountered, such as the Osage, who moved further west.

Beloved by Toni Morrison
In the novel Beloved by Toni Morrison, Morrison has created two very powerful characters:
Denver and Beloved. Denver and Beloved are sisters, but in a sense, they weren t always. It used
to just be Denver and her mother, Sethe, that lived together in a house. That house was passed
down to them by Denver s grandmother, Baby Suggs, which was given to her by a white couple
who were out to help the blacks. Sethe and Denver were very content with the way things were.
Sethe had a paying job as a cook and Denver never left the house since she was terrified of the
horrible monsters that could be lurking in the outside world. They also had a spirit that was
haunting their house, which was believed to be Denver s sister that was killed as a baby. Until one
day, Paul D came to the house and banished the ghost. But the ghost ended up taking human form
and stayed with the familyfrom then on. They called her Beloved. Denver had always taken a liking
to the ghost, and now that she was human form she was as happy as can be. Beloved was the
only friend or even company that Denver ever had growing up. Denver wanted all of Beloved s
attention, but Beloved only wanted Sethe. Now that Beloved was back, they could all be a family.
But Beloved becomes a threat towards the end and is becoming dangerous. Beloved was the only
friend that Denver had. Denver was always too scared to leave the property because of the

Death Penalty Dbq
Throughout history, many governments were implementing the death penalty unfairly because of
the unjust rulers, such as the Romans and the Ottomans. For example, they were executed people
who were demanding for their rights. Furthermore, the penalty ways were very ugly and inhumane.
To be more precise, Romans used the saw to cut up the accused into two halves and this execution
style was the favorite of the Roman emperor Caligula. Also, Ottomans were using the stake in the
death penaltyto make the victim suffer as long as possible before he died. However, with the

In some countries, executions are not only for criminal reasons, but also because of religious
and racial bias. Racial discrimination began in terms of using people with black skin as slaves
and servants for the rich. The racist practice against black Americans is an important example
that explains how blacks were persecuted. This policy began in the United States after the
American Civil War and emerged the racist legislation that supports the control of whites in the
late nineteenth century. This situation made blacks angry for the loss of their rights and tough
punishments up to execution because of racial grounds. Blacks began to resist this policy before
World War II. Then, black American leaders have appeared like Martin Luther King and
Malcolm X and called for changing the racial laws. Martin Luther King was one of the most
famous advocates of the abolition of the death penalty and he said that death penalty is against
the best rule of new criminology. In her article, The Death Penalty: What Would Dr. King Do?
(2012) Moye commends that Dr. King utilized the ethic of peacefulness to social change. At its
embodiment was a profound appreciation for the human poise in all individuals, including the
oppressor and the culprit. Martin Luther King means that every human has the right to live and
no one can take this right except God. On the other hand, racism has directly affected the civil
rights of blacks and indirectly on their lives. For example, judgments for certain crimes against
blacks are strict compared with whites and it may reach to penalty. Not only blacks around the
world are suffering from racism, but also people in occupied countries such as Palestine. This is
another type of using the violence and executions for religious reasons. Since 1967, Jews occupied
Palestine and declared that the land is theirs then they

Welfare For Children of Illegal Immigrants
The United States is in the midst of a major debate over immigrants and their place in our
economic and political life. As during other times in our history, immigrants, are being blamed for
causing or contributing to the social, economic and political ills of our society. Politicians from
both major parties, at both the national and state levels, are promoting a range of punitive
legislative proposals that single out immigrants for adverse treatment by the government. Many

On the contrary, this boy with the complete understanding of what welfare means will take a
completely different approach.
Typically, liberals would dismiss this finding, arguing that families who receive a lot of welfare
payments have lower total incomes than other families in society, and that it is low overall family
income, not welfare, which has a negative effect on the young boys. But the Borcoran and Gordon
study compares families whose average non welfare incomes were identical. In such cases, each
extra dollar in welfare represents a net increase in overall financial resources available to the
family. This extra income, according to conventional liberal welfare theory should have positive
effects on the well being of the children. But the study shows that the extra welfare income, even
though it produced a net increase in resources available to the family, the lower the earnings
obtained by the boys upon reaching adulthood.
Other studies have confirmed the negative effects of welfare on the development of children. For
example, young women who are raised in families dependent on welfare are two to three times
more likely to drop out and fail to graduate from high school than are young women of similar
race and socioeconomic background not raised on welfare. Similarly, single mothers who were

Loss Of Innocence
Loss of Innocence
At the first glance at the poem, The Chimney Sweeper by William Blake, it seems to be about the
mistreatment of children, owever, after more in depth reading it proves to show much more than
that. Blake s poem is about loss of innocence, death, exploitation, and oppression for unwanted
children (Heath, S, 2011). By cleverly describing the deplorable livings conditions, the horrible
treatment, the dreams of a better life with a father who loves them and the fear of an inevitable
death, Blake masterfully allows the reader to see through the sad eyes of a chimney sweep child.

mother died I was young/And my father sold me while yet my tongue/Could scarcely cry weep!
weep! weep! (1 2). There is sharpness in the words because children are being used and caused
an early death. The title is The Chimney Sweeper singular, but it means chimney sweepers as a
whole. Tom Dacre is the voice for all chimney sweep children. The images of many small
helpless children covered in soot create an image that is heartbreaking and angers the reader.
Blake s tone is matter of fact with no child like understanding or compassion. There is only one
simile included in the poem, which is Tom s hair that is comparing it to lamb s hair. There is an
underlining statement by Blake that has a bit of sarcasm in it when he says, If he s be a good boy ,
as to imply he was bad if he did not perform properly. There is a rhyme to this poem similar to a
nursery rhyme, which adds to the loss of innocence of

Analysis Of Antipersonality Disorder And Psychopathy
ANALYSIS OF ANTIPERSONALITY DISORDER AND PSYCHOPATHY
Psychopathy is a common term used to describe a grouping of personality traits that include such
things as impulsive behavior, lack of regard for others, lack of a normal range of emotional
responsiveness and frequent deception or manipulation of others (Elements Behavioral Health).
Antisocial Personality Disorder and psychopathy are used interchangeably to describe the
psychological and personality disorder that causes one to disregard human life. While the
American Psychiatric Association uses the terms interchangeably, many believe these two
disorders to be similar, yet separate disorders. Many people do agree however that most
psychopaths are afflicted with antisocial personality disorder. One major concept to know is that
most psychopaths are antisocial personalities, but not all antisocial personalities are psychopaths
(much like how a square is a rectangle but a rectangle is not square). For the sake of avoiding
confusion, the following research will focus on the aspect that most psychopaths are antisocial
personalities in order to examine characters from the blockbuster hit, Silence of the Lambs.
DEMOGRAPHIC OF ANTIPERSONALITY DISORDER/PSYCHOPATHY Psychopathy occurs
in one percent of the population, while persons with exclusively antisocial personality disorder
make up only four percent of the population (O Connor). Antisocial personality disorder occurs in
males more frequently than females and a large

The Literary Representation Of History
Le drame de l Afrique, c est que l homme africain n est pas assez entrГ© dans l histoire.
(SARKOZY).
Discuss the literary representation of history in relation to this controversial statement.
Considered as la parole officielle française la plus raciste depuis longtemps , Nicholas Sarkozy s
2007 speech in Dakar elicited widespread disapproval (Heams, 2007). In highlighting a binary
opposition between France and Africa; the progressive and the stagnant, Sarkozy reinforced a euro
centric idea of progress whilst criticising the inadequate insertion of l homme africain into history
(Sarkozy, 2007). In the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Europeans similarly believed
that Africa lacked a collective historical consciousness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whilst the main body of the text serves to represent the history of the BaoulГ© people and their
leader, Queen Pokou; in constantly questioning and subverting the narrative, Tadjo constructs
alternative endings to the well known legend of the Ivory Coast (Ligaga, 2011: 488). One
chapter that best exemplifies the dual meaning of histoire is La TraversГ©e de l Atlantique ,
where Tadjo rewrites the original legend in the context of the transatlantic slave trade. Here, the
use of language is emotive, enabling Tadjo to stress the cruelty of the trade. For example, the use
of metonymy when describing the captives on their passage is unsettling (Cazenave and
CГ©lГ©ritГ©, 2011: 75 76). Corps contre corps, ballottГ©s par les vagues (Tadjo, 2005: 58).
This dehumanises the slaves and parallels their worth with that of commodities, as subalterns, corps
. Similarly, the repetition of corps , elicits a disturbing image of slaves, both alive and dead, in close
proximity in the hold. In grounding this version of the narrative in fact, Tadjo intensifies the
emotional impact on the reader. We thus sympathise with the victims on both a factual and fictional
level. The use of three successive nouns, ils avaient perdu leur visage, leur nom, leur lendemains ,
enables Tadjo to further illustrate the process of dehumanisation during the journey across the
Atlantic (Tadjo, 2005: 59). They

Although used for medical purposes that helped people there has been concern over the abuse of
the drug marijuana as studies have shown that there could be significant impairments of memory
and cognition specifically the difference between new and heavy users. Investigators could not
explain the effects of marijuana on the brain until 1988, when researchers finally found the brains
cannabinoid receptors (Devane, Dysarz, Johnson, Melvin, Howlett, 1988). The process of
communication between neurons is affected by the main ingredient in marijuana which is the THC
which affects the neurotransmitters by changing the strength of the signals that the
neurotransmitter have. Specifically THC interacts with the cannabinoids receptors that are high in
content in the brain.
The THC affects the cannabinoid receptors which affect the synaptic transmission because when
you smoke marijuana the synaptic transmission goes down. The constant smoking affects the
cannabinoid receptors by making the synapses disappear this happens because the brain is getting
used to the THC because of the regular intake. When certain neurons are depolarized, they release
anandamide or 2 AG as retrograde transmitters, which travel back to incoming axons and inhibiting
the release of glutamate, an excitatory transmitter (Kalat, 1998). Because marijuana

My Cultural Aspects Of My Culture In Cape Verdean
A culture is a set of characteristics of a particular group of people. It emcopasses language, social
aspect, such as relegion, cuisine, social habits,, music, and arts. I considered my culture to be
Cape Verdean. I was born and raised in Cape Verde until I was fourteen. My country was colonized
by the Portuguese, so there are a lot common culture aspects between Cape Verdeand Portugal . One
of the results of colonization was implementation of catholicism as a primary religion in my
country. It was not until recent years that other forms of religious started to emerge in Cape
Verde. However, for some people who strong practice catholicism there is a strong push back
against those who aren t from the same religion. This has raised a lot religion conflict not only

Drug And Alcohol Treatment Of Alcoholics Anonymous And...
Twelve step programs are commonly used in drug and alcohol treatment. Alcoholics
Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous both utilize the twelve steps, along with many other
treatment centers. The twelve steps are used as a tool to stay sober and overcome addictions to
substance abuse. The first step involves admitting one is powerless over the drug. It also
involves admitting that due to the drug, one is no longer in control of his or her life. The
second step is coming to the belief that there is a greater power that can restore one to sanity.
The greater power can be anything from God to a higher power such as nature. The third step is
making the decision to turn one s will and life over to the higher power. This is when an
individual fully commits oneself to the belief in something greater than him or her self. The
fourth step is a moral inventory of oneself. Many individuals make a list of all the wrongs he or
she has done while in the fourth step. (Alcoholics Anonymous Publishing, 1981) The fifth step
involves admitting to a higher power, oneself, and other people the exact nature of the offenses
one has committed. The sixth step is preparing oneself to have a higher power remove the
character defects. Asking the higher power to remove the deficiencies is step number seven. Step
eight is making a list of the individuals harmed in one s addiction and preparing oneself to make
amends with those people. Step nine is fulfilling step eight and making those amends with hurt

correct decision to make right after graduating high school. Ungar and Murray, go head to head,

According to Unger s article, The New Liberal Arts, he solely concentrates on explaining why a
liberal arts college education should be the one that high school graduates should aspire. He
explains why liberal arts should be aspired by high school graduates by dissecting seven common
misconceptions that many people have, and proving them otherwise. Ungar s first misperception

running start in elementary school (Murray 2008:23). Basically saying that liberal education

to earn a reputable resume with a B.A. to get a decent job. Murray (2008:246) says that large
numbers of students are in college to buy their admission ticket the B.A. In addition, another
argument that Murray introduces to support his idea of why fewer people should attend college
is that he believes that individuals might already have the knowledge and skill to go out into the
real world, without needing a college degree. Murray also believes that individuals that
complete college and get B.A. are likely to make less money than if he were to become a skilled

God Is A Contractual Relationship Between God And God
A covenant is a contractual relationship between two parties, usually a king and his followers.
The covenant relationship between God and the people of Israel is strong. God makes
covenants with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. For these covenants to be strong there needs to be
loyalty and faithfulness on both sides. The Mishnah emphasizes this relationship in many of the
texts, this relationship is most emphasized in the sections of prayer and festivals. The section of
prayers is called zera im or seeds, it literally means the availability of agricultural products in
Israel. This connects to prayer because in order for the land to be rich of agricultural products
by God, the people of Israel need to pray and show gratitude to God. In the chapter the Life of the
Torah , there is a section about the daily life of the Jew and much of the day consists of prayer.
There are very specific times for prayer and recitation of the Shema and Tefillah. The Mishnah
requires Jews pray before and after meals. The sages have many rules for blessing over food,
there are different prayers for different types of food. They sages also require that the Jews say
grace after meals, this prayer requires more components than prayers before meals. They thank
him for the land, ask him to rebuild the temple, sustain his people, bless the host and hostess,
and send peace to all of Israel. In the first section in Grace After Meals: Thanking God the
Provider , the leader says For he is God who sustains all, doest good to all, and provides food for
all creatures he has created. Blessed art thou, O Lord, who dost sustain all (696). These prayers
are important to Jews because this shows that they are faithful to God and appreciate his work for
them. The covenant here is if they stay faithful and gratuitous to God then God will rebuild
Jerusalem, create peace for all of Israel and provide them with land and agriculture. Overall, the
Rabbi s do not disagree on this topic. They all believe as long as they recite the benedictions at the
right times and for the right things, then the covenant between God and the people of Israel will
remain strong. Also, the section in Mishnah about the different festivals and celebrations highlight
the covenant

Imagine walking through a town plaza and suddenly spotting a bust depicting Adolf Hitler, or a

symbol of such hatred and violence is displayed prominently in a town. These statues would incite
an uproar and immediate demands to remove such offensive monuments. Thankfully, such a
situation would never arise in modern America; however, a similar plight is unfolding across the

3Another issue with the statues are the actual subjects monumentalized. Notable people that are
commemorated with having models of themselves publicly displayed are usually figures that the
people of America are proud of, like Abraham Lincoln or Harriet Tubman. Confederate statues,
however, are the exception; for they are monuments that represent the institutionalization of racism.
Our public spaces should not glorify historical policies of hatred and racism, argues Kevin
Kamenetz, executive and president of the Maryland Association of Counties (Eversley 2017). That
single phrase perfectly sums up what people across the country are attempting to convey, and
expresses the main issue that many have with these statues. No person who fought for the right to
keep humans as property is deserving of modern honor.
4For people who oppose the removal of Confederate statues, history is said to be their biggest
concern. Many believe that Ultimately, removal of the monuments will, quite literally, erase an
unsavory but important part of our nation s history (Brophy 2015). They fear that by removing
these symbols, America would be disregarding a huge part of its past. Yet, history itself would not
be destroyed, as the impact of the Civil War lives on; only the tokens of oppression would be
removed.
5Speaking of oppression, the statues are reminders to the descendants of slaves of what their
ancestors endured in the machinations of slavery on a day

The Power Of Rhetoric In Shakespeare s The Clouds
Rhetoric is the art of effective or persuasive speaking or writing, especially the use of figures of
speech and other compositional techniques. (Webster s) The art of oratory reached the height of its
popularity in fifth century Athens, largely due to men like Socrates, Demosthenes and Plato that
perfected this style of speaking and transformed it into an artform. Aristophanes, an Ancient
Athenian playwright s, The Cloudsis one of the best examples of how this artform changed the
culture of Ancient Athens, which, in turn, helped to shape thinking in the Western world. From that
point until present day, the art of speaking in a convincing manner (also known as rhetoric), has
been a highly prized and sought after ability. In William Shakespeare s Measure for Measure and
Aristophanes The Clouds, the characters place great importance on the skill of rhetoric. Perfecting
this art insures the characters that they will be convincing in their argument, thereby, also gaining
or diminishing their honor as well as the honor of the other characters.
One of the most prominent examples of the power of rhetoric within Greek society comes from
Aristophanes The Clouds. This play features a hardworking, traditional, but simple father, named,
Strepsiades, who tries to convince his lazy, modern, but quick witted son, Pheidippides to be more
like his hardworking, conservative father. Unfortunately for Strepsiades, Pheidippides used his

The Importance Of Plants In Canada
Plants are extremely important to the growth and development of Canada because as a source of
food, the country requires the nutrients the plants provide and they are irreplaceable. Plants are
crucial as they are a component of everything people eat, whether people eat the plants or the
animal they eat or get food from rely on plants. The more food and plants available to better the
reproduction, and therefore more population growth in communities. Having more food available
for the entire population has shown to decrease poverty and increase the overall development of
the community (2). In Canada, there is a large discrepancy between the food security of the
southern provinces and northern territories. This has stuck many northern Canadians in difficult
situations when trying to buy the proper food. There is also an economic factor of food and plants.
In current society, most food in imported from country to country, creating many economic benefits
in countries that import food (3). That money can be used to create a better community and
country. On another level, plants and crops also have religious and symbolic value in our culture,
which helps to increase development on a social level. Increases in variety and quantity can help to
develop communities. Certain pants and foods help to give communities and countries their
identity. For example, many foods are crucial to our identity like maple syrup. Overall, food and

Symptoms A Person Who Is Infected By The Hiv Virus
The signs and symptoms a person who is infected by the HIV virus shows are directly related to
the stage of infection they are currently in. There are three stages of infection classified by the
CDC, and those are acute infection, clinical latency, and AIDS. The World Health Organization, or
WHO, however, breaks it down into 4 different stages which are primary infection, followed by a
clinically asymptomatic stage, then a symptomatic stage, and lastly progression to AIDS. The US
uses mostly the CDC system and for this reason this is how I will break the phases down in order
to describe each.
Acute infection is the initial stage at which point viral load is highest due to large amounts of viral
particles being produced. Some people but not all develop what can be described as influenza like
symptoms a couple of weeks after initial exposure. Symptoms can include fever, throat
inflammation, swollen lymph nodes, headaches, rashes, sores, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting.
These symptoms usually last no more than a couple weeks at most.
During clinical latency, very low levels of the virus are being produced and most people infected
are completely asymptomatic. This is the stage in which people may remain and live for many
years if on treatment. Even without treatment, this stage tends to last for a wide range of years for
most, averaging at about 8 10 years, although some speed through it faster than others. With
treatment, of course, life expectancy is markedly greater.

Quantitative, Qualitative And Quantitative Methodologies
Introduction
Along with qualitative and quantitative methodologies in research, the trend of combining both
qualitative and quantitative methodologies is widely used and increasingly articulated, attached to
research practice and recognized as the third major research approach or research paradigm
(Johnson, Onwuegbuzie Turner, 2007).
As cited by Anaf and Sheppard (2007), Key in 1997 suggested the theory and meaning, qualitative
and quantitative methodologies are distinct. A qualitative methodology s focus of researchis in its
nature and essence. The goal of investigation of qualitative methodology is understanding,
description and discovery. It usually involves small, non random, and theoretical population. Data
collection takes into account researcher as the primary instrument, and sometimes involve
interviews and observations. The mode analysis of qualitative method is inductive which leads to
findings that are comprehensive and holistic.
It was also claimed that a quantitative method s focus of research usually involves how many or the
quantity. The goal of investigation of a quantitative method is usually about prediction, control and
confirmation. It usually involves large, random and representative sample. Data collection that are
usually used are inanimate instruments, surveys and questionnaires. The mode of analysis is
usually deductive and lead to a precise and reductionist way of findings as cited by Anaf and
Sheppard (2007).
As described above, if by features

Difference Between Teaching And Teaching Styles
Even the smartest students have certain classes that they cannot focus in, no matter how hard they
try. Everyone knows that no one is exactly the same; for example, identical twins may look
identical at first glance, if you look more closely, you will notice differences between the two. This
basic concept applies to teachers and professors too. Every teacher has a different teachingmethod,
some people may think that the teaching methods are the same, but it is slightly different. This
difference may be due to the different subjects that the teachers are teaching or just the difference
in personalities and teaching styles that each teacher has. These differences greatly affect students
performances in numerous of ways that one could not possibly think of. I had observed in several
of my classes to compare and contrast different teaching styles from my professors and the
students behaviors depending on the subject and the professors. The classes that I have observed
include General Chemistry 1, Calculus 2 and Asian Behaviors and Thought (ABT). Two of these
classes are the main subjects with the last one is a general educationclass in order to see the
differences better and if there are any similarities. Calculus 2 and ABT are both classroom based
courses. I chose to observe General Chemistry 1 because unlike the other two classes, this class is a
lecture, which means there is no doubt that the teaching methods of the professors would be
different.
I have observed that in

Birthcontrol and the Work Of Margaret Sanger Essay
Birthcontrol and the Work Of Margaret Sanger
Works Cited Missing
A free race cannot be born and no woman can call herself free who does not own and control her
body. No woman can call herself free until she can choose consciously whether she will or will not
be a mother (Sanger A 35). MargaretSanger (1870 1966)said this in one of her many controversial
papers. The name of Margaret Sanger and the issue of birth control have virtually become
synonymous. Birth control and the work of Sanger have done a great deal to change the role of
woman in society, relationships between men and woman, and the family. The development and
spread of knowledge of birth control gave women sexual freedom for the first time, gave them an

This in turn had prompted an arms race. There for many countries felt children were an important
part of building a stronger military. National pride to all countries was important. European
countries were competing for space and power do to what Germany called The War of the Cradle
(Birth Control in America). This meant the German government had begun instilling national pride
and building its nationalism from the ground up. This was at the brink of World War One.
However, it was not only for nationalism that the impoverished were encouraged to reproduce. It
was because children meant inexpensive labor for the new industrial factories that were springing
up all over urban America and the world.
There was also the ethical argument against birth control that seems to be mostly tainted with male
pride. It appeared to some people to be
...increasing isolation and mobility of the individual family (Birth
Control in America). It allowed people to control the size of their family thus controlling their life
style as well. Fewer children meant less work more money and more time for women. With
Margaret Sanger s work, and birth control the family was reshaped in size from seven or eight
children to what is more common today, which is two to three children.
Birth control has always been present in society even if it was just a matter of Backyard abortions,
with coat hangers. These

Sherman Alexie’s The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fist Fight in...
Imagine a world without hope, diversity, uniqueness, heroes and role models. Everybody would
have the same height, shape, voice, skin color, eye color, hair color, clothes, job, interests and so
on. They would most likely live in the same type of home, own the same things, speak the same
language and eat the same food. If a person tried to be unique, the society would try to drag that
person down to society s hopeless status. Personally, I couldn t stand a minute in a world like that.
Unfortunately, worlds like these exist. In ShermanAlexie s The LoneRangerand Tonto Fist Fight in

It wasn t until that summer I walked across a bright yellow home. Through the windows, I could
see an Asian woman was playing a beautiful song on her black grand piano. The sound of her
music was like a stream of water running quietly through the green forest. From that moment, I
became inspired to learn how to play the piano. I decided to take piano lessons with her and
made it a goal to learn how to play the piano. My piano teacher, Ms. Li, was my role model
because she showed me that there are unique and fascinating things people can learn to do in this
world. As days turned to months and months turned into years, I continued to strive to become
my inspiration. Many times, I felt like the Indians on the reservation and just wanted to give up
because I felt it was too hard to make it to the top. Eight years later, I ve completed my piano
training. Today, people would always compliment my style of playing when I would play the
piano. Sometimes I would come across a very young boy or girl who wanted to learn how to
play the piano after they heard me play. I told them, If you put your mind to it, you can do
anything. My piano teacher has been and will always be my inspiration and role model. Today, I
have become a role model and inspiration for many people who want to learn how to play the
piano. Role models and heroes are important in shaping people s personalities and qualities
because they provide people with goals to strive for.

Nobody s Son Is The Winner Of The American Book And...
Nobody s son is the winner of the American book and translated around the world. Luis Alberto
Urrea is the author. He wrote several categories of books. He is a member of the Latino
Literature Hall of Fame. When he was a child, he lived in neighbor where there was racial
discrimination. His mom was a segregationist, so she abandoned him to live with his father. His
father wanted to teach him to be a real man. However, his instructions were too aggressive.
Therefore, learning something quickly from critical situations, forcing kids to do some dislikes
to stop crying, enhancing patience from facing injuries, and being a bad model for kids are too
offensive to instruct kids to be a real man.To instruct children to be able to do something rapidly
by practicing in a dangerous situation does not mean to be a real man. Parents might let their
children learn how to train some abilities by themselves, but parents should not teach their
children in a dangerous situation because children cannot help themselves yet. For instance,
Luis s dad teaches him how to ride a bike like a real man. He removes training wheels and tells
Luis to ride a bike on the road, which many cars are driving. Luis falls down on the road with
blood on his arm, and a driver honks a horn. This might be Luis s luckiness that the car does not hit
him. A critical situation cannot prove to be a real man. His father may misunderstand that
practicing in a terrible situation is what a real man

PE Classroom Pool Analysis
In the pool phase of the PE class, we learned three major components: how to kickboard, how to
tread water, and how to do different strokes. To start off each day in the pool, we warmed up
using kick boards and had people start on each side of the pool. When using a kickboard, we
must make sure our two hands are at the top of the board. The way we used the kickboard
involved kicking in the way of the freestyle stroke. Watching the youtube video, I learned kick
boarding is described as allowing you to target your legs, isolating them so you can practice your
kick stroke, improve your balance, or work on your leg strength. While kick boarding, you are
recommended to do short maximum burst to work on speed and power or can have your repetitions

The first stroke we learned to do was how to do the freestyle stroke. With this stroke, you must
focus on reaching out in front as far as possible, and pulling the water back behind you while
kicking in a fluttering motion. The motion of your arms should look like a windmill spinning. In
the backstroke, the swimmer has his or her back facing the bottom of the pool while flutter
kicking their feet and doing their arm strokes. The way the backstroke is different is because
with the arm stroke your arm is going in the opposite direction as the freestyle stroke and you
must let your outside little finger enter the water first for the most efficient way to catch and
push the water. Lastly, we learned the breaststroke. In the breaststroke, your legs are kicking in a
frog like way to push the water back with the bottoms of your feet. In the youtube video it says
that you must sweep your arms outward while trying to catch as much water possible. When at the
end of the arm stroke, the swimmer s head can come out of the water to take a breathe. Those are
each of the stroke we have used during class time in Physical Education

Flood Myth in the Epic of Gilgamesh and the Biblical...
The Flood in the Epic of Gilgamesh and the Flood of Genesis
The Biblical book, Genesis, of the Old Testament contains an account of an historic Flood which
has never been equaled in intensity. Tablet 11of the Sumero Babylonian version of the epic of
Gilgamesh also records a Flood quite expansive and quite devastating. Are they a record of the
same event?
E.A. Budge states in Babylonian Story of the Deluge and the Epic of Gilgamesh that the narration
of the Flood in Sumero Babylonian records may simply be related to a local flood instead of a
worldwide Flood such as the Bible narrates:
It is not too much to assume that the original event commemorated in the Legend of the Deluge
was a serious and prolonged ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Berossus, the deluge hero was the tenth Prediluvian king in Babylonia. Also in the
Sumerian inscription he is referred to as king; there he occupies also a priestly office, viz., that of
the administrator of the temple provisions of a certain god. In the Gilgamesh epic, Utnapishtim is
not invested with any royal power or entrusted with any priestly office; from it we learn simply
that he was a citizen of Shurippak (Tablet XI:23) and a man of considerable wealth (XI:70ff). (227)
There is no reason given by Utnapishtim for the deluge. On the contrary, the Judaic version of the
Flood in Genesis states in 6:5 8 a very clear, explicit reason for the Flood:
The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that very imagination of the
thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the Lord was sorry that he had made man on
the earth, and it grieved him to his heart. So the Lord said, I will blot out man whom I have
created from the face of the ground, man and beast and creeping things and birds of the air, for I
am sorry that I have made them.
Likewise in Genesis 11:13 God gives a reason for the Flood:
And God said to Noah, I have determined to make an end of all flesh; for the earth is filled with
violence through them; behold, I will destroy them with the earth.
In Column 2 of Tablet 11 the Sumero Babylonian Flood narrative continues with the measurements

North Carolina And South Carolina
Moving to North Carolina In different parts of the world, people do things differently. Someone
from the United States is not going to say hi the same way someone in Europe will. In the
United States people from New York are not going to be the same as people from North Carolina.
This was a big change for me when I moved from New York to North Carolina. People in the south
have a different dialect than from people in New York. When I first moved to North Carolina it
was a different place. I was used to the buildings and the busy highways, and when I moved here
it was nothing like that, it was very open with farms and golf courses. The surroundings were not
the only thing that changed people from the south were completely different. The first couple of
weeks living here, I just thought that people did not know how to speak. I was thirteen at the time
and I was very ignorant. I thought people in North Carolina were just stupid. I remember walking
into a Walmart and buying a few items, then checkout. The cashier was a big old women with short
black hair. She said, Your change is eight dollars and fifty two cents.
I just looked at that women and thought she was from a different country, she did not sound like
me at all. I asked my mom when I got to the car. What did that women say? she replied, Honey, she
was just telling me my change.
I looked at my mom with big eyes, and then I started to laugh. My mom joined me, but I do not
think she had a clue what I was

Essay about Christendom and The Song of Roland
The Song of Roland is the oldest epic poem in French, written by an anonymous poet, composed
in between late eleven century to twelfth century. This epic poetry holds an important place in
the history of France and invention of Christendom. The Song of Roland is a cultural artifact
that takes us to the journey of Medieval Europe, when religion becomes an important element
for the formation of proto Europe. Religion plays a crucial role in The Song of Roland and
becomes the reason of criticism. Some readers might take this poem as a religious text, whereas,
for some reader it is a fictional literary work and contain ideological perspective. The Song of

The time, when The Song of Roland was composed, is the era of creating national identity for
diverse kingdoms to unite and form a harmonious cultural area. To recognize the self it becomes
important to separates the other in terms of race, religion and culture. For The Song of Roland,
religion is selected to separate others . The misrepresentation of Muslims as pagans can be found
throughout the poem, which helps Christians to recognize themselves righteous and superior to
Muslims. Davies Norman quotes T.S. Eliot in Europe: A History, The dominant feature in creating
a common culture...is religion... I am talking about the common tradition of Christianity which has
made Europe. (Norman qtd. Eliot 9). Eliot emphasizes the importance of Christianity for Europe.
Christianity become a symbol for medieval Europe and gives a label of Christendom to the nation.
The self recognition by separating others continues. In thirteen and fourteenth century, Christians
gain prejudice by persecuting and demonizing Jews. George M. Frederickson quotes Joshua
Trachtenberg in Religion and Invention of Racism, Not being a human being but a demonic, a
diabolic beast fighting the forces of truth...was the Jew as medieval Europe saw him.

Daphnia Thermotactic Reaction
The results of the study found that there was a significant difference in Daphnia s response when
exposed to a cold stimulus in the form of crushed ice, compared to room temperature water. Thus,
the null hypothesis was rejected and the alternate hypothesis was accepted. These findings could be
due to the fact that Daphnia magna are cold blooded and were trying to swim away from the ice
cubes that were attached to the bottom of the mesocosm opposite to the counting area. These
results support the idea that Daphnia experience a negative thermotactic reaction when exposed to
colder water compared to room temperaturewater.
When compared to a similar study, a similar conclusion was made. In a study conducted by
Gerristen, he studied if Daphnia would experience a positive or a negative thermotactic reaction
when exposed to a variety of different temperatures. Once the experiment was completed, Gerristen
was able to conclude that the Daphnia did indeed experience a negative thermotactic reaction and
swam away from the cold stimuli. He claimed that these results were due to the Daphnia s natural
instinct to seek warmer water (Gerristen 1982). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These findings were consistent with Gerristen s findings. In another experiment though, he placed
a hormone that is created by the Daphnia s natural predator to simulate that there was a predator in
the mesocosm. Glaholt determined that Daphnia would swim deeper into the cold water to avoid
the hormone of their predator (Glaholt et al. 2016). A future study can be conducted to allow a
better understanding of Daphnia, and how far they are willing to go to avoid

  • 4. King Lear Comparison Essay Originally written at the start of the 17th century, William Shakespeare s play, King Lear, has become one of his most famed works. The tragedy was first adapted for the screen in 1909 as a black and white, silent film. Almost a century later in 2008, King Lear was once more brought to life through director Trevor Nunn s film adaptation of the same name. Staring Ian McKellen as King Lear, the film adaptation is based on the 2007 production of the play by the renowned Royal Shakespeare Company. King Lear is a story of betrayal, loss and madness and to accurately convey this while simultaneously distinguishing it from other screen renditions, Nunn alters the setting and utilises the colours of the costumes and backdrop to symbolise the virtues... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Characters with titles that derive from English place names, such as the Duke of Cornwall, indicate that the film takes place in England. Also, many scenes occur on heaths which can be commonly found throughout England but rarely in Russia. However, the costumes worn by male characters, especially Lear s scarlet tunic, closely resemble those worn by the Tsar and his high ranking officials. Additionally, Lear s 100 knights have also been transformed into 100 singing, squat dancing Cossacks which further reinforces the films connection to Imperial Russia as Cossacks are an ethnic group known for their historic loyalty to the Tsar. The inclusion of rifles as well as glasses suggests that King Lear is set in the 1800 s which coincides with both Victorian England and Imperial Russia. Although using elements from two eras may confuse some viewers, historical and geographical references are negligible to most audience members, allowing them to generate their own opinion about the setting. At the same time, the setting makes Nunn s production unique. Since 1909, King Lear has been adapted for the screen on numerous occasions with the majority of these adaptations retaining the original setting of pre Christian England. By drastically changing the setting, it distinguishes Nunn s King Lear from other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In The Alchemist Santiago has a dream he knows he needs to follow and he knows he can t rely on other people in order to achieve it. In the novel, The Alchemist, by Paulo Coelho, Santiago learns, Remember where your heart is, there you will find your treasure. First of all, Santiago works hard with help along the way. Second of all, Santiago has a positive outlook on life. Last, Santiago accepts things the way they come. First of all, Santiago works hard with help along the way. For example, while Santiago is sulking because a thief stole his money outside of a restaurant in Tangier, he remembers the wise words of the King. Santiago doesn t want to give up and realizes that if he goes for his dream the universe will help him: When you want something, all the universe conspires to help you achieve it (24). Instead of sulking, he was more positive by being reminded of the king s wise words that motivate him. Santiago was dwelling on the fact his money was stolen and had the mindset that it was over for him but then when he is reminded of the king s words he is more motivated to continue his journey. Finally, this is important because the King was beneficial to Santiago by giving him these wise words, and as a result, Santiago is reminded of these words and feels more motivated. • 6. How Did Eli Whitney Contribute To The Formation Of The... The shipping ports and subsequent infrastructure that followed such as the New Orleans Cotton Exchange that helped strengthen the economy were prompted by the creation of the cotton gin. However, these outcomes were the result of several factors not including any foresight by Eli Whitney. Instead, New Orleans ranking as among the main cottonmarkets in the world can be attributed to the many other factors. Firstly, the success of New Orleans cotton market depended heavily on the demand for the product. Demand of cotton from England rose drastically following the creation of the steam engine, mechanical spinners, and the power loom; all creations of the Industrial Revolution. These inventions reduced the cost of producing manufactured fabric and subsequently decreased prices and increased demand. The agency of Whitney as an entrepreneur was insignificant in building the legacy the cotton gin maintains to this very day. Moreover, the cotton gin s undeniable impact defined by capital accumulation, physical infrastructure, and the American Civil War benefited from factors beyond Whitney s control. These include the Industrial Revolution, the declining tobacco industry, a poor patent system, the mindset of manifest destiny that swept the nation, and conflicting attitudes towards slavery from the South and North. These social and political structures catapulted the cotton gin from a simple invention useful for producing cotton to a creation that developed capitalism significantly in the United States. • 11. Silent Sam, By Julia Craven Silent Sam UNC can no longer say silent on Silent Sam, Julia Craven from the Huffington Post wrote. Silent Sam is a memorial in the middle of the University of North Carolina s campus built to honor students who left school and fought in the Civil War. The Civil War was a war between the northern and southern states fought over slavery. Many students now think that the statue is offensive because the people that it honors fought for the South and supported slavery. Silent Sam was erected in 1913 for 321 UNC students who fought in the Civil War. It s called Silent Sam because he has no ammunition so he s quiet and then just Sam. The university still had classes during the war.The statue faces North as if it s fighting for the confederates. Some students vandalized it because they thought that it was offencive and shouldn t be there. In conclusion The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill says this is an important topic about something bad that happened about the topic. On the statue s 100th birthday there was controversy. They want U.N.C. to remove Silent Sam from the campus. They think that it s rude to the Northerners from the war and stuff. The U.N.C. students get mad because it s supposed to be about state movements not slavery. The statue is for students who died in the war and that seems to slip some students minds. These students changed the campus today they made an impact on UNC.In conclusion Kevin says that this an important topic And that students ... • 12. Seductive Advertising In Advertising Weekend sports on TV have long been the prime time for beer, car, and entertainment advertisers to bring out their most sexualized ads for the sport loving man, which is the majority of the American male population (Craig 193). Like many industries, technology has also tried its hand with a sexual ad that pushes the envelope of what is acceptable for the original geekbuyers and the target mainstream buyer. Samsung aired their sexualized ad, Seductive Motion, in 2012 and surprisingly achieved chart topping results with the mainstream buyer base. Shocking results are not new for the ever changing technology industry but these related to Samsung s new advertisement defy trends for technological ads and do bring up several important questions. Like, what transpired in Samsung s controversial ad that warranted a positive response from the mainstream consumer and how has nerd culture been popularized and integrated with current mainstream ideals? The Samsung Smart TV with motion control commercial uses sexual stereotypes and humor to create not only a desire for the woman, but also the TV being sold. The ad begins with music playing in the style of the movie Who Framed Roger Rabbit and shows a man working in a high rise office building that glances up and spies something in the distance which instantly captivates his attention. The view cuts to a scantily clothed woman waving towards the window of her apartment which is across the street from the office building. The man ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Members of the Nations speak Iroquoian languages that are distinctly different from those of other Iroquoian speakers. This suggests that while the different Iroquoian tribes had a common historical and cultural origin, they diverged as peoples over a sufficiently long time that their languages became different. Archaeological evidence shows that Iroquois ancestors lived in the Great Lakes region from at least 1000 A.D. After becoming united in the League, the Iroquois invaded the Ohio River Valley in present day Kentucky to seek additional hunting grounds. According to one pre contact theory, it was the Iroquois who, by about 1200, had pushed tribes of the Ohio River Valley, such as the Quapaw (Akansea) and Ofo (Mosopelea) out of the region in a migration west of the Mississippi River. But, Robert La Salla listed the Mosopelean among the Ohio Valley peoples defeated by the Iroquois in the early 1670s, during the later Beaver Wars. By 1673, the Siouan speaking groups had settled in the Midwest, establishing what became known as their historical territories. Just as the Siouan peoples were displaced by the Iroquois, they displaced less powerful tribes whom they encountered, such as the Osage, who moved further west. Racial discrimination began in terms of using people with black skin as slaves and servants for the rich. The racist practice against black Americans is an important example that explains how blacks were persecuted. This policy began in the United States after the American Civil War and emerged the racist legislation that supports the control of whites in the late nineteenth century. This situation made blacks angry for the loss of their rights and tough punishments up to execution because of racial grounds. Blacks began to resist this policy before World War II. Then, black American leaders have appeared like Martin Luther King and Malcolm X and called for changing the racial laws. Martin Luther King was one of the most famous advocates of the abolition of the death penalty and he said that death penalty is against the best rule of new criminology. In her article, The Death Penalty: What Would Dr. King Do? (2012) Moye commends that Dr. King utilized the ethic of peacefulness to social change. At its embodiment was a profound appreciation for the human poise in all individuals, including the oppressor and the culprit. Martin Luther King means that every human has the right to live and no one can take this right except God. On the other hand, racism has directly affected the civil rights of blacks and indirectly on their lives. For example, judgments for certain crimes against blacks are strict compared with whites and it may reach to penalty. Welfare For Children of Illegal Immigrants Essay Welfare For Children of Illegal Immigrants The United States is in the midst of a major debate over immigrants and their place in our economic and political life. As during other times in our history, immigrants, are being blamed for causing or contributing to the social, economic and political ills of our society. Politicians from both major parties, at both the national and state levels, are promoting a range of punitive legislative proposals that single out immigrants for adverse treatment by the government. Many violate basic civil liberties principles. Typically, liberals would dismiss this finding, arguing that families who receive a lot of welfare payments have lower total incomes than other families in society, and that it is low overall family income, not welfare, which has a negative effect on the young boys. But the Borcoran and Gordon study compares families whose average non welfare incomes were identical. In such cases, each extra dollar in welfare represents a net increase in overall financial resources available to the family. This extra income, according to conventional liberal welfare theory should have positive effects on the well being of the children. But the study shows that the extra welfare income, even though it produced a net increase in resources available to the family, the lower the earnings obtained by the boys upon reaching adulthood. Other studies have confirmed the negative effects of welfare on the development of children. For example, young women who are raised in families dependent on welfare are two to three times more likely to drop out and fail to graduate from high school than are young women of similar race and socioeconomic background not raised on welfare. • 21. Loss Of Innocence Loss of Innocence At the first glance at the poem, The Chimney Sweeper by William Blake, it seems to be about the mistreatment of children, owever, after more in depth reading it proves to show much more than that. Blake s poem is about loss of innocence, death, exploitation, and oppression for unwanted children (Heath, S, 2011). By cleverly describing the deplorable livings conditions, the horrible treatment, the dreams of a better life with a father who loves them and the fear of an inevitable death, Blake masterfully allows the reader to see through the sad eyes of a chimney sweep child. Emotion Evoking In the poem The Chimney Sweeper , Blake narrates using detailed imagery throughout this poem. The opening line states When my mother died I was very young/And my father sold me while yet my tongue/could scarcely cry weep! Weep! weep! weep! (1 3), which implies this child, is very young. As Blake is narrating, the feeling sadness in his words is demonstrated as he says, When my mother died I was young/And my father sold me while yet my tongue/Could scarcely cry weep! weep! weep! (1 2). There is sharpness in the words because children are being used and caused an early death. The title is The Chimney Sweeper singular, but it means chimney sweepers as a whole. Tom Dacre is the voice for all chimney sweep children. The images of many small helpless children covered in soot create an image that is heartbreaking and angers the reader. Blake s tone is matter of fact with no child like understanding or compassion. There is only one simile included in the poem, which is Tom s hair that is comparing it to lamb s hair. There is an underlining statement by Blake that has a bit of sarcasm in it when he says, If he s be a good boy , as to imply he was bad if he did not perform properly. • 22. Analysis Of Antipersonality Disorder And Psychopathy ANALYSIS OF ANTIPERSONALITY DISORDER AND PSYCHOPATHY Psychopathy is a common term used to describe a grouping of personality traits that include such things as impulsive behavior, lack of regard for others, lack of a normal range of emotional responsiveness and frequent deception or manipulation of others (Elements Behavioral Health). Antisocial Personality Disorder and psychopathy are used interchangeably to describe the psychological and personality disorder that causes one to disregard human life. While the American Psychiatric Association uses the terms interchangeably, many believe these two disorders to be similar, yet separate disorders. Many people do agree however that most psychopaths are afflicted with antisocial personality disorder. One major concept to know is that most psychopaths are antisocial personalities, but not all antisocial personalities are psychopaths (much like how a square is a rectangle but a rectangle is not square). For the sake of avoiding confusion, the following research will focus on the aspect that most psychopaths are antisocial personalities in order to examine characters from the blockbuster hit, Silence of the Lambs. DEMOGRAPHIC OF ANTIPERSONALITY DISORDER/PSYCHOPATHY Psychopathy occurs in one percent of the population, while persons with exclusively antisocial personality disorder make up only four percent of the population (O Connor). Discuss the literary representation of history in relation to this controversial statement. Considered as la parole officielle franГ§aise la plus raciste depuis longtemps , Nicholas Sarkozy s 2007 speech in Dakar elicited widespread disapproval (Heams, 2007). In highlighting a binary opposition between France and Africa; the progressive and the stagnant, Sarkozy reinforced a euro centric idea of progress whilst criticising the inadequate insertion of l homme africain into history (Sarkozy, 2007). Whilst the main body of the text serves to represent the history of the BaoulГ© people and their leader, Queen Pokou; in constantly questioning and subverting the narrative, Tadjo constructs alternative endings to the well known legend of the Ivory Coast (Ligaga, 2011: 488). One chapter that best exemplifies the dual meaning of histoire is La TraversГ©e de l Atlantique , where Tadjo rewrites the original legend in the context of the transatlantic slave trade. Here, the use of language is emotive, enabling Tadjo to stress the cruelty of the trade. For example, the use of metonymy when describing the captives on their passage is unsettling (Cazenave and CГ©lГ©ritГ©, 2011: 75 76). Corps contre corps, ballottГ©s par les vagues (Tadjo, 2005: 58). This dehumanises the slaves and parallels their worth with that of commodities, as subalterns, corps . Similarly, the repetition of corps , elicits a disturbing image of slaves, both alive and dead, in close proximity in the hold. In grounding this version of the narrative in fact, Tadjo intensifies the emotional impact on the reader. We thus sympathise with the victims on both a factual and fictional level. The use of three successive nouns, ils avaient perdu leur visage, leur nom, leur lendemains , enables Tadjo to further illustrate the process of dehumanisation during the journey across the Atlantic (Tadjo, 2005: 59). The process of communication between neurons is affected by the main ingredient in marijuana which is the THC which affects the neurotransmitters by changing the strength of the signals that the neurotransmitter have. The THC affects the cannabinoid receptors which affect the synaptic transmission because when you smoke marijuana the synaptic transmission goes down. The constant smoking affects the cannabinoid receptors by making the synapses disappear this happens because the brain is getting used to the THC because of the regular intake. Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous both utilize the twelve steps, along with many other treatment centers. The twelve steps are used as a tool to stay sober and overcome addictions to substance abuse. The first step involves admitting one is powerless over the drug. It also involves admitting that due to the drug, one is no longer in control of his or her life. The second step is coming to the belief that there is a greater power that can restore one to sanity. The greater power can be anything from God to a higher power such as nature. The third step is making the decision to turn one s will and life over to the higher power. This is when an individual fully commits oneself to the belief in something greater than him or her self. The fourth step is a moral inventory of oneself. Many individuals make a list of all the wrongs he or she has done while in the fourth step. (Alcoholics Anonymous Publishing, 1981) The fifth step involves admitting to a higher power, oneself, and other people the exact nature of the offenses one has committed. The sixth step is preparing oneself to have a higher power remove the character defects. Asking the higher power to remove the deficiencies is step number seven. • 30. God Is A Contractual Relationship Between God And God A covenant is a contractual relationship between two parties, usually a king and his followers. The covenant relationship between God and the people of Israel is strong. God makes covenants with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. For these covenants to be strong there needs to be loyalty and faithfulness on both sides. The Mishnah emphasizes this relationship in many of the texts, this relationship is most emphasized in the sections of prayer and festivals. The section of prayers is called zera im or seeds, it literally means the availability of agricultural products in Israel. This connects to prayer because in order for the land to be rich of agricultural products by God, the people of Israel need to pray and show gratitude to God. In the chapter the Life of the Torah , there is a section about the daily life of the Jew and much of the day consists of prayer. There are very specific times for prayer and recitation of the Shema and Tefillah. The Mishnah requires Jews pray before and after meals. The sages have many rules for blessing over food, there are different prayers for different types of food. They sages also require that the Jews say grace after meals, this prayer requires more components than prayers before meals. They thank him for the land, ask him to rebuild the temple, sustain his people, bless the host and hostess, and send peace to all of Israel. In the first section in Grace After Meals: Thanking God the Provider , the leader says For he is God who sustains all, doest good to all, and provides food for all creatures he has created. Blessed art thou, O Lord, who dost sustain all (696). These prayers are important to Jews because this shows that they are faithful to God and appreciate his work for them. The covenant here is if they stay faithful and gratuitous to God then God will rebuild Jerusalem, create peace for all of Israel and provide them with land and agriculture. Overall, the Rabbi s do not disagree on this topic. They all believe as long as they recite the benedictions at the right times and for the right things, then the covenant between God and the people of Israel will remain strong. The Power Of Rhetoric In Shakespeare s The Clouds Rhetoric is the art of effective or persuasive speaking or writing, especially the use of figures of speech and other compositional techniques. (Webster s) The art of oratory reached the height of its popularity in fifth century Athens, largely due to men like Socrates, Demosthenes and Plato that perfected this style of speaking and transformed it into an artform. Aristophanes, an Ancient Athenian playwright s, The Cloudsis one of the best examples of how this artform changed the culture of Ancient Athens, which, in turn, helped to shape thinking in the Western world. From that point until present day, the art of speaking in a convincing manner (also known as rhetoric), has been a highly prized and sought after ability. In William Shakespeare s Measure for Measure and Aristophanes The Clouds, the characters place great importance on the skill of rhetoric. Perfecting this art insures the characters that they will be convincing in their argument, thereby, also gaining or diminishing their honor as well as the honor of the other characters. One of the most prominent examples of the power of rhetoric within Greek society comes from Aristophanes The Clouds. The World Health Organization, or WHO, however, breaks it down into 4 different stages which are primary infection, followed by a clinically asymptomatic stage, then a symptomatic stage, and lastly progression to AIDS. The US uses mostly the CDC system and for this reason this is how I will break the phases down in order to describe each. Acute infection is the initial stage at which point viral load is highest due to large amounts of viral particles being produced. Some people but not all develop what can be described as influenza like symptoms a couple of weeks after initial exposure. Symptoms can include fever, throat inflammation, swollen lymph nodes, headaches, rashes, sores, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting. These symptoms usually last no more than a couple weeks at most. During clinical latency, very low levels of the virus are being produced and most people infected are completely asymptomatic. This is the stage in which people may remain and live for many years if on treatment. Even without treatment, this stage tends to last for a wide range of years for most, averaging at about 8 10 years, although some speed through it faster than others. With treatment, of course, life expectancy is markedly greater. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Quantitative, Qualitative And Quantitative Methodologies Introduction Along with qualitative and quantitative methodologies in research, the trend of combining both qualitative and quantitative methodologies is widely used and increasingly articulated, attached to research practice and recognized as the third major research approach or research paradigm (Johnson, Onwuegbuzie Turner, 2007). As cited by Anaf and Sheppard (2007), Key in 1997 suggested the theory and meaning, qualitative and quantitative methodologies are distinct. A qualitative methodology s focus of researchis in its nature and essence. The goal of investigation of qualitative methodology is understanding, description and discovery. It usually involves small, non random, and theoretical population. Data collection takes into account researcher as the primary instrument, and sometimes involve interviews and observations. The mode analysis of qualitative method is inductive which leads to findings that are comprehensive and holistic. It was also claimed that a quantitative method s focus of research usually involves how many or the quantity. The goal of investigation of a quantitative method is usually about prediction, control and confirmation. It usually involves large, random and representative sample. Data collection that are usually used are inanimate instruments, surveys and questionnaires. The mode of analysis is usually deductive and lead to a precise and reductionist way of findings as cited by Anaf and Sheppard (2007). As described above, if by features ... Everyone knows that no one is exactly the same; for example, identical twins may look identical at first glance, if you look more closely, you will notice differences between the two. This basic concept applies to teachers and professors too. Every teacher has a different teachingmethod, some people may think that the teaching methods are the same, but it is slightly different. This difference may be due to the different subjects that the teachers are teaching or just the difference in personalities and teaching styles that each teacher has. These differences greatly affect students performances in numerous of ways that one could not possibly think of. I had observed in several of my classes to compare and contrast different teaching styles from my professors and the students behaviors depending on the subject and the professors. The classes that I have observed include General Chemistry 1, Calculus 2 and Asian Behaviors and Thought (ABT). Two of these classes are the main subjects with the last one is a general educationclass in order to see the differences better and if there are any similarities. Calculus 2 and ABT are both classroom based courses. I chose to observe General Chemistry 1 because unlike the other two classes, this class is a lecture, which means there is no doubt that the teaching methods of the professors would be different. The name of Margaret Sanger and the issue of birth control have virtually become synonymous. It was because children meant inexpensive labor for the new industrial factories that were springing up all over urban America and the world. He wrote several categories of books. He is a member of the Latino Literature Hall of Fame. When he was a child, he lived in neighbor where there was racial discrimination. His mom was a segregationist, so she abandoned him to live with his father. His father wanted to teach him to be a real man. However, his instructions were too aggressive. Therefore, learning something quickly from critical situations, forcing kids to do some dislikes to stop crying, enhancing patience from facing injuries, and being a bad model for kids are too offensive to instruct kids to be a real man.To instruct children to be able to do something rapidly by practicing in a dangerous situation does not mean to be a real man. Parents might let their children learn how to train some abilities by themselves, but parents should not teach their children in a dangerous situation because children cannot help themselves yet. For instance, Luis s dad teaches him how to ride a bike like a real man. He removes training wheels and tells Luis to ride a bike on the road, which many cars are driving. Luis falls down on the road with blood on his arm, and a driver honks a horn. This might be Luis s luckiness that the car does not hit him. A critical situation cannot prove to be a real man. The first stroke we learned to do was how to do the freestyle stroke. With this stroke, you must focus on reaching out in front as far as possible, and pulling the water back behind you while kicking in a fluttering motion. In the backstroke, the swimmer has his or her back facing the bottom of the pool while flutter kicking their feet and doing their arm strokes. The way the backstroke is different is because with the arm stroke your arm is going in the opposite direction as the freestyle stroke and you must let your outside little finger enter the water first for the most efficient way to catch and push the water. Lastly, we learned the breaststroke. In the breaststroke, your legs are kicking in a frog like way to push the water back with the bottoms of your feet. Budge states in Babylonian Story of the Deluge and the Epic of Gilgamesh that the narration of the Flood in Sumero Babylonian records may simply be related to a local flood instead of a worldwide Flood such as the Bible narrates: It is not too much to assume that the original event commemorated in the Legend of the Deluge was a serious and prolonged ... In the Gilgamesh epic, Utnapishtim is not invested with any royal power or entrusted with any priestly office; from it we learn simply that he was a citizen of Shurippak (Tablet XI:23) and a man of considerable wealth (XI:70ff). (227) There is no reason given by Utnapishtim for the deluge. On the contrary, the Judaic version of the Flood in Genesis states in 6:5 8 a very clear, explicit reason for the Flood: The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that very imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. So the Lord said, I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the ground, man and beast and creeping things and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them. Daphnia Thermotactic Reaction The results of the study found that there was a significant difference in Daphnia s response when exposed to a cold stimulus in the form of crushed ice, compared to room temperature water. Thus, the null hypothesis was rejected and the alternate hypothesis was accepted. These findings could be due to the fact that Daphnia magna are cold blooded and were trying to swim away from the ice cubes that were attached to the bottom of the mesocosm opposite to the counting area. These results support the idea that Daphnia experience a negative thermotactic reaction when exposed to colder water compared to room temperaturewater. When compared to a similar study, a similar conclusion was made. In a study conducted by Gerristen, he studied if Daphnia would experience a positive or a negative thermotactic reaction when exposed to a variety of different temperatures.
