Comparing Plato s Cave Allegory And The Matrix
Both Plato s Cave Allegory and the matrix discuss the topic of truth and illusion. In both of the
story it was established that we humans live in the darkness, an illusion which is merely the
shadow of the truth. However, once in a while a person will wake up from the illusory dream and
realized the cold hard truthof reality. Should that person overjoyed of the fact that he or she
discovered the truth or should that person weep in sorrow since he or she can no longer go back
and continuing living in the shadow? In both Plat s Cave Allegory and the matrixthose who were
thrown out of their illusions into the cold hard truth end up having to deal with the consequence
that comes from realizing it. Whether it is becoming a social outcast,... Show more content on

This is also the mentality that gave protagonists described in the Cave Allegory and the Matrix
so much trouble, it is difficult for people to change their established perception about the world,
especially when it was already accepted by the majority. Thus there is no good in knowing the
truth even if it is good and wonderful, because what that get you are the risks of being labeled as
social outcast. For example, what if a person told you that Donald trump have escaped the cave of
chains and realized the greater reality and what he has been doing and trying to do all these time
have been attempting to enlighten us: the people who are still in chains, what would you think?
Obviously you will believe that person who told you this is being ridiculous and probably need
mental health treatment. But what if the entire world buys into that fact? Then it is likely for you
to change your mind. Since you must have realized that is no way the entire world can be wrong
and even if you do have a different opinion you would likely to doubt your stance. Most importantly
you don t want to be sent to mental hospitals. Due to concept the herd mentality that we humans
inherently have, there is no benefit in knowing the truth unless you can convince the entire world;
otherwise then you are merely a heretic to the majority

Theme Of Persuasion In To Kill A Mockingbird
She did what? With who? Oh my lord! Well, I never. Miss Stephanie Crawford is the town
busybody, having no remorse nor any ability to apologize for the rumors she s spread. this
example is seen many times in the novel, To Kill A Mockingbird. In every single incident she is
involved in, Miss Crawford has been one of the antagonists. Her position is to know every single
ridiculous detail about her neighbors, no matter if the rumor hurts or helps them in the long run.
Most likely however, the rumor is going to hurt them. She keeps the gossip mill flowing along with
her group of middle aged unimportant women. Although not a extremely significant antagonist in
the plot she still counts because she moves the story along in the most interesting of ways while
feeding the readers important information, and being comic relief.... Show more content on

Both her and Jem revel in the ghastly details which contrasts the ending of the novel where Jem
is saved by Boo and placed into his home. That [The Radley House rumors] is three fourth

Scout and growing up: while Miss Crawford has that same child like attitude throughout the novel
but Scout refuses to let all the remarks get to her which therefore shows how she will grow into a
fine young woman. In addition to being a sort of narrator to the novel, Miss Crawford becomes

Health Risks Associated With The Additives
You Are What You Eat Do you read the labels on the products you buy? Do you know what is put
in the food you consume? There are many health risks associated with the additives in products.
Most Americans are unaware of the risks that are linked with the additives in commonly
purchased products. My daughter was one year old when I realized she was allergic to artificial
coloring. One morning we woke up and I made us a toasty bagel. I topped the warm crunchy
bagel with light pink, strawberry, cream cheese. We enjoyed our bagel as we watched Sunday
morning cartoons. Suddenly I noticed her face was as red as a cherry. In a panic I took her to
the bathroom to check for other symptoms. She was red from head to toe with red raised bumps
all over. I immediately called the doctor, who advised me to take her to the emergency room.
After the doctor examined her she told us it was a food allergy. I realized she broke out after
eating food that contained artificial coloring. Once I started to look at labels, to avoid buying
harmful products, I realized almost everything contained added coloring. Many manufactures
over use artificial coloring in the United States, which can lead to serious health problems.
Americans need to become aware of what is added to our food, and ban artificial coloring. How can
we find a solution to a problem, if most of us are UN aware that a problem exists? First, we must
find out what is in artificial colors. Artificial color, food color, and

Should Pluto Be Considered A Planet Essay
Many may urge that Pluto should be considered a planet for it has similar characteristics as the
planets of the Solar System; however, others still believe that Pluto should not be considered a
planet because of its slight differences and conditions that are not matched.
Pluto is recognised by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) as a dwarf planet for it doesn t
match the third condition of what defines a planet. IAU proposed three conditions to becoming a
planet. The first condition being: (a) is in orbit around the Sun; the second condition being: (b) has
sufficient mass for its self gravity to overcome rigid body forces so that it assumes a hydrostatic
equilibrium (nearly round) shape; the third condition, in which Pluto has not met the standards to,
being:(c) has cleared the neighbourhood around its orbit. Pluto doesn t meet the standards to the
final condition as Pluto follows the orbit path of some asteroid like objects in space and are
surrounded with these objects. If people were to ignore the third condition and recognise Pluto ...

Reporters with interest in Pluto have published many articles related to the matter of whether Pluto
should be considered a planet. Many are opposing the opinion that Pluto should not be considered
a planet as the third condition is very vague. For instance, the Earth s neighbourhood could be
considered as not cleared out as the moon is following it around; Jupiter is continuously having
contact with asteroids named Trojans, and Neptune s orbit crosses over with Pluto s orbit. The
Guardian stated in one of it s articles that Pluto should not have a ban from being a planet due to
its small size. IAU, however, has not made any regards on this criticism. These opposing views
about Pluto may be correct in a way; however, factually speaking, Pluto is still not considered as a
planet as IAU has not made any changes towards its definition of the word,

Essay on What Is Accountability in the Army
What is accountability and the definition: (DOD) The obligation imposed by law or lawful order
or regulation on an officer or other person for keeping accurate record of property, documents, or
funds. The person having this obligation may or may not have actual possession of the property,
documents, or funds. Accountability is concerned primarily with records, while responsibility is
concerned primarily with custody, care, and safekeeping. Why is accountability important to the
Army? Accountability is a very important part of an enlisted and a NCO s job. The enlisted
soldier is responsible for all items issued to issued to him weather it be a weapon, NVG s, clothes,
a vehicle, or some TA 50, a feild manual, medication (morphine, demoral,... Show more content on

A soldier must understand that no one will care about his or hers property as much as their
leaders do. When we do a chain of command change over, we must pull 100% of all equipment
that belongs to our platoon and show that we have everything that was hand receipted to us. The
leaders that hold our sub hand receipts will be a mixed bag: some will be great at accounting for
their property; some will not. So as a soldier I should personally ensure that things are done right
.Certainly, the change of command inventory is a critical part of property accountability.
However, a commander is less likely to have problems with property during the change of
command inventory when everyone s attention is on it and the inventory is the commander s
only responsibility. Assertions of responsibility can mean a number of different things. We
might be making a judgment of someone s character, implying that a soldier can be trusted to act
responsibly. We might refer to a person s responsibilities, as expressed by my responsibilities in
my job areВ… or Tom has a lot of responsibilities . We might mean that someone was responsible
for bringing something about. But these responses don t take us far towards a satisfactory answer
to the question What do we mean when we talk about responsibilities . To advance our
understanding of responsible action we need to know who is responsible, and for what. The
question Who is responsible? has both practical and

Data Analysis And Data Mining
The exponentially increasing amounts of data being generated each year make getting useful
information from that data more and more critical. The information frequently is stored in a data
warehouse, a repository of data gathered from various sources, including corporate databases,
summarized information from internal systems, and data from external sources. Analysis of the
data includes simple query and reporting, statistical analysis, more complex multidimensional
analysis, and data mining. Data analysis and data mining are a subset of business intelligence(BI),
which also incorporates data warehousing, database management systems, and Online. The
technologies are frequently used in customer relationship management (CRM) to analyze patterns
and query customer databases. Large quantities of data are searched and analyzed to discover useful
patterns or relationships, which are then used to predict future behavior. Some estimates indicate
that the amount of new information doubles every three years. To deal with the mountains of data,
the information is stored in a repository of data gathered from various sources, including corporate
databases, summarized information from internal systems, and data from external sources. Properly
designed and implemented, and regularly updated, these repositories, called data warehouses, allow
managers at all levels to extract and examine information about their company, such as its products,
operations, and customers buying habits. A

Coworkers. These are the people that the majority of us have to deal with by the time we reach
the college level. Some can be a joy to work with, while others may not be as easy going. As an
employee, at my current job, I ve had good and bad experience with my fellow coworkers, but
over the course of time I ve learned how to handle this type of situation. At any job you will have
to know how to deal with different types of coworkers. To my understanding coworkers can be
classified into three major groups: slackers, overachievers, and neutral co workers. The slackeris the
one who is unwilling to work or use energy and probably the worst one to work with. These

trying to impress the manager and tries to keep themselves occupied throughout their whole

off as being snobbish. They are depicted to be bossy and love to take charge, but when they do
something wrong they wont hesitiate to throw you under the bus to save themselves. For
example, during one of my many shifts I had to work with one of my least favorite co worker,
Sabrina. That afternoon we agreed to split the several task assigned to us in half so we would
finish faster. During the time we had to complete these task, we also had to be at the register
attending customers as they approched us. As the day progressed I have taken notice that all the
items I have stocked up was rearranged, but everytime I would reposition the item, it would
change positions again or it would be relocated to another section of the store. I soon found out
that my co worker was not just finishing her task but changing what she believed was wrong
with my display. Of course, I let this type of situation slide a little because everyone knows how
she is, however, soon after our manager approached us, and politely asked who was the one that
stocked up the items. Sabrina shot up and proudly announced that she did it all by herself, which
obviously was not true, and goes to show that everything she had stocked up was not in the
correct shelves. Although it was her mistake and I had nothing to do with it, she tried dragging
me down with her to save herself. In addition, our other fellow co worker, Dora, never talked to
anyone else except for the customers, but she was not as nice and polite as everyone may have
thought. She acted like she knew it all and would try to consult the customers about having their

Holding On, A Story Excerpt
One week had gone by, and that was all it took for Serena to lose her bright eyes, her charming
personality, and her strong demeanour. In place stood a woman with dark, tired eyes, unclean and
unmotivated, she had hardly left her bed, the world felt scary. She always knew, Ric s death
would be hard on her, but she did not think it would be this hard and she was avoiding people at all
costs.
She had briefly spoken to Jess, who called to see how she was; it was an emotional call, in which
Jess, offered to take control of the funeral plans. Serena, sounded so broken, and so adamant that
she could not arrange it herself, she did not know where to begin, and although, Jess had lost her
father, and the emotional baring was tough on her. Jess, felt that the pressure of a arranging a
funeral could see Serena fall into darker depths.
Other than Jess, Serena had not spoken to anyone; she had not even told her own daughter of Ric s
death, she did not want to disrupt her university work. Serena did not want Eleanor, to feel
responsible for her; it was not her job to look after her.
With a sore head, and a strong crave for something sugary, Serena left her bed, and headed
downstairs, and through to the kitchen. She had hardly eaten over the past week, and when she
did eat, it was takeaway food; she just really did not care about herself. She felt that life was unfair,
cruel, Ric did not deserve to die, and he did not deserve to suffer.
Opening up the fridge, Serena pulled

Siblings In The Film, The Crow Indian Brothers
On June 27, 1978, two Crow Indian brothers, Bobby and Tyler were killed by a 44 car Conrail

the film revealed that the two brothers had run away from home because they knew what their
stepfather was doing to their sister. The Crow Indian siblings were adopted into a white Baptist
family that also adopted their biological sisters seven years earlier. The crow Indian siblings were

The two brother Bobby and Tyler were aware of the sexual abuse that the father was doing to

was something they will never get. Losing two brothers at the same was hard for them to deal
and how they died effect on them. The main question what was Bobby and Tyler doing laying on
the railroad tracks? In my opinion, I do not think Bobby and Tyler s death was not an accident
because the story did not make sense to me and did not make sense to siblings either. The
siblings knew their brother would not lay down on the track and if they were laying on the track
why didn t they get up. I believe the father did something to brothers because they were aware of
what he was doing to their sister. Lana discloses this information to her brother and her brother

Letters From An American Farmer
Primary sources like letters, drawings, engravings and other original documents play a great role in
learning and understanding history. Sometimes such document can tell us about the past even more
than a history textbook, because it has direct relation to the past and connected with the historical
period by the author s personal feelings, thoughts and memories about the past. In 1782 a French
writer Hector St. John de Crevecoeur published Letters from an American Farmer , where he put the
beginning to the famous idea of the United Statesas a melting pot of different nations and cultures
that harmonically mixed together and created a new American nation. The excerpt from the
mentioned Crevecoeur s work dipped me in America of post revolutionary period, when newborn
and independent country appeared and new nation was created, and gave an opportunity to imagine
what the idea of an American man was in the reflection of a new coming immigrant from Europe.
In Letters from an American Farmer Hector St. John de Crevecoeur appealed to the European
readers in order to tell them about new country and give them an idea of what was the man of the
New World; what were his values and principles. From the very beginning the author describes a
member of a new formed nation and mentions the new government an American man follows: He

The History Of Nanocomposites During World War II
The History of Nanocomposites Before the use of nanocomposites, humans have used natural
composites to improve their welfare and way of life throughout history. The Mesopotamians would
use natural adhesive to glue wood pieces in different ways to make plywood. Archaeologists have
found multiple natural composites used by ancient civilizations, but one of the most prevalent was
the use of straw. Utilizing straw allowed these civilizations to increase the strength of their building
bricks, thus making there shelters stronger. This is how natural composites were first used by early
humans. In the 1930s, numerous synthetic composite technological breakthroughs were born. In
1935, Owens Corning launched the fiber reinforce polymer (FRP) industry by introducing the first
fiber glass. In 1936, unsaturated polyester resins were patented. Because of their curing properties,
they would become the dominant choice for resins in manufacturing today. In 1938, other higher
performance resin systems like epoxies also became available. (Cite) The creation of FRP was
vital to the military during World War II due to its notably high to strength to weight ratio. Not only
was FRP used for electronic housings and other electronic components, but was also used to create
the first fiberglass reinforced boat hull. The war efforts spawned copious amounts of commercial
products made with FRP. This is how synthetic and natural composites were revolutionized during
the 20th century. A

Carl Rogers Person Centered Theory
The person centered theory was created by Carl Rogers in the 1940s. At the time when this
approach began it was considered radically different than those that were available. All theories
were predominately therapist centered, symptom focused, or orientated to making personality
changes. Rogers approach let the clients take charge and lead their direction of change. Rogers was
the first to use the word client to refer to an individual seeking psychotherapy. Implicit in his theory
is the basic premise that people are essentially good. The person centered theory views an
individual from a different perspective than other theories in that what is important is an
individual s perception of their reality rather than the event itself. This is so central to his theory
that it is often referred to as self theory. In order for a healthy self to emerge, people need genuine
and positive regard. However, if in childhood an individual receives conditional acceptance, it
teaches them to feel valued only when they conform to others wishes (GCU, 2014; Murdock,
2013). In using the person centered theory approach there are considerations to apply such as goals
and interventions, theory duration, counselor s role, client s role, appropriate populations, social
and cultural needs, and risks..
Goals and Interventions The goals of the person centered theory include focusing on the client as a
person, not their problems. Clients are assisted in learning how to cope with the

Short Essay On Mother Teresa
Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier. Mother
Teresa. She was always loving people no matter what and she would always help out anyone in
need. She dedicated her life in helping homeless, the sick , the poor and the dying. Mother Teresa
was a petite woman who spent most of her life caring for the sick and dying. She fed, washed, and
cared for anyone who needed it. Mother Teresas use of unique missionary work in India was an
effective method for change because she provided for the impoverished, improved healthcare for
the poor, and established a safe haven for everyone.
Mother Teresa devoted her life to helping the poor, sick, needy, and dying people in India. In 1948
she asked the Pope if she could quit teaching so she could help the people in need and he finally
said yes after a year of lobbying. In the year 1952 she was able to open the first available hospice
in Calcutta where she stayed with the people who were living there until they died. Next year she
opened the first orphanage which took care of handicapped children and the children of dying
mothers. One day she stumbled upon a lady whose flesh was being eaten by mice. So she took the
lady and stayed with her until she died (Demkovich). Meeting with the abandoned women in streets

Poland s Economic Reform Plan Of 1989
The year of 1989 is generally regarded as a watershed moment in the history of Eastern Europe the
one which effectively ended the dominance of Communist politics in the region formerly known as
the Soviet Bloc. Comprised of Poland, Czechoslovakia, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania, and East
Germany, this region was politically and economically depended on the Soviet Unionthat largely
dictated the official ideological orientation of the Soviet Bloc nations. In 1989, the region s
dependence on the Soviet Union effectively came to an end along with the communist hegemony in
Eastern Europe. At the same time, Eastern Europeans finally discovered the opportunity to make a
transition from centralized socialismto democratic and decentralized form of market economy that
was largely modeled on the Western democracies. The following chapter examines the extent to
which Western theoretical and institutional trends influenced Polands economic reform plan of
1989. At the same time, it seeks to account for Poland s own local tradition of neoliberal thought. In
so doing, it aims to dispel the oversimplified interpretation of the transnational exchange between
Polish and American economists according to which the former had to learn from scratch while the
former assumed the role of educators. As various commentators have observed, the Eastern
European transition to market economy took Western neoliberalism as its principal ideological
model. It is no secret, for instance, that Jeffrey

Peacekeeping An Effective Method Of Conflict Intervention...
While peacekeeping has become a mainstay of the United Nations collaboration in international
affairs, it is evident that peacekeeping no longer espouses the ideals it was create with.
Peacekeeping has devolved into ineffective barbarisms. This is evident in the sexual abuses
perpetrated by peacekeepers, the growing complexity of peacekeepingmandates, which is at times
in conflict with United Nationsprinciples, and the lack of legal institutions surrounding
peacekeeping, which validates a belief of impunity. However, peacekeeping is not to be totally
derided as, in certain situations, it can be effective at limiting civilian deaths. Furthermore,
peacekeeping can be made effective if several reforms are enacted. These include an effective legal
order, an understanding of local culture, and developing strong relationships within the jurisdiction
of the operation. These changes could make peacekeeping an effective method of conflict
intervention.
Peacekeepers have committed various sexual crimes against local populations whilst under the
purview of the United Nations, yet few of these peacekeepers have ever been prosecuted for their
crimes. The international community became aware of the damaging deficiencies of peacekeeping
during the decade leading up to the twenty first century (Wills 2013, 49; Odello and Burke 2016,
839). Additionally, despite being aware of the sexual crimes being committed by peacekeepers,

The Scarlet Letter is a book full of suffering and shame that causes multiple characters to endure
many different types of pain. There are many horrible aches that inflict the main characters in their
battles between their hearts and their minds. Although there are several characters who suffer
throughout the course of the book, there is one character that one might not consider who endures
significantly more misfortune than any other character. The purpose of this paper is to prove that
Roger Chillingworth suffers the most throughout the course of The Scarlet Letter through physical
suffering, emotional suffering, and the loss of his humanity.

This causes him to suffer emotionally in the struggle of trying to fit into a community as a
completely different person. The book does not state when exactly Chillingworth leaves England
to be with Hester, but after he arrives in the new world, he is taken captive by Native Americans.
After two years of separation, they meet again in the town square with Hester s shame for all to
see. Chillingworth has to make the decision to admit that he is Hester s husband or to conceal his
identity from all of the town. After choosing the latter, he has to completely hide his identity and
come up with a new past life and name. Chillingworth tells Hester, It may be, he replied, because I
will not encounter the dishonor that besmirches the husband of a faithless woman (Hawthorne 70).
As a new comer, if the town had knowledge that he was the husband of Hester, he would be pitied.
Nevertheless, Chillingworth decided that it was better to be unknown than shamed. Thus, he
struggles and suffers emotionally in the search for his new

Analysis Of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome ( Pcos )
About 5 10% of the female population is affected by Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). The
cause is unknown, but it is considered to be the most common endocrine disorder in women.
Genetics and insulin resistance are believed to play a significant role. One of the first symptoms
is an irregular period. Others include an imbalance in the female sex hormones, weight gain, and
male patterned hair growth and balding. Aside from hormonal treatments, there are some
natural ways to treat PCOS and eliminate many of the symptoms. A proper diet and weight loss
routine is essential. After my own horrific experience with PCOS, I decided to take my health
into my own hands. At the beginning of the month, I weighed 320 lbs. My goal is to get down
to 180 lbs. by April 13th, 2014. Today is Day 13 of my lifestyle change and my current weight is
301.2 lbs. Here are some helpful things I ve learned so far: Keep a Weight Loss Journal So

The Riddle os the Fourth Gospel by Poul Anderson
Anderson writes The Riddles of the Fourth Gospel to provide students, of any level, with an
overview and evaluation of the varying approaches to understanding the Fourth Gospel, and
ultimately to serve as a guide through the controversy and riddles encountered in the Fourth Gospel.
Anderson addresses the work of the international community of Johannine scholars and introduces a
new set of paradigms. The introduction immediately captivates those who have yet to wade in the
perplexities of the Fourth Gospelby bombarding the reader with the many puzzlements of the
Fourth Gospel. Anderson tackles the issue in three parts.
Part one introduces the most perplexing of the Johannine riddles. After an outline of the Gospel of
John, Anderson presents the threefold riddles: theological, historical, and literary. Anderson
considers familiarity with the points of contention a requisite for engaging, addressing, and
interpreting them. Chapter one exposes the central features of the Fourth Gospel; which effectively
reveals the dissimilarities between John and the Synoptic Gospels. Chapter two uncovers the
theological riddles of the Fourth Gospel, both incidental and highly significant. For the twelve
theological riddles presented in chapter 2, Anderson conveys the work of Johannine scholarship as
well as presents his own incisive exegesis. Anderson does likewise in his presentation of the
historical and literary riddles in chapters 3 and 4. The first part successfully establishes the

Analysis of Michael Moore s Treatment of His Subject Matter within the Documentaries Bowling
for Columbine and Fahrenheit 911
A documentary may be as a film or television or radio programme that provides factual information
about a subject. Typically, a documentary is a journalistic record of events presented on screen.
The main conventions of documentaries tend to be that the documentary has voice over
commentary; the main focus is on the issues rather than relationships between characters, they also
build up the setting so the viewer can build up a context.
Documentaries do not leave on cliff hangers, they usually end with a conclusion or final
interpretation to provoke thought on the issue ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Editing can cause a bias to a subject matter; therefore the objectivity of a documentary may be lost.
An example of this is Michael Moore s apparent dislike of George Bush s administration and his
particular disgruntlement at the US for its invasion of Iraq. Winston says The line between
documentary and fiction is tenuous. Both are create by edititing and selection. Both, willingly, or
unwillingly, embody a viewpoint.

Analysis Of Outcasts In Gregory Boyle s Tattoos On The...
Outcasts in society are in need of love and compassion. In the book Tattoos on The Heart by
Gregory Boyle, Father Greg gives gang members an opportunity to better themselves by providing
them with jobs. Attention makes gang members realize they are worthy.
Giving gang members attention makes them apprehend that they are worthy. Yolanda, an active
woman from the parish, expressed to Speedy, Sabes que, mijo, she says, Te digo una cosa. If
anything happened to you, it would break my heart in two ... You know, he says, tapping his heart
with his finger, That sh*t made me feel good (Boyle 58). Speedy was hanging out with a girl from
a rival gang, which he knew was extremely dangerous, but he didn t care whether he lived or died.
Speedy understood that he was a worthy person when Yolanda expressed to him that there is
people who care for him and his wellbeing.
Gang members recognize they are worthy when they receive attention. Father Greg explains the
reaction Lula, a young ex gang member, had when he states, I roll down my window and catch his
attention Hey, Lula. You would have thought I had electrocuted him. His whole body spasmed
with delight to be known, to be called, to hear his name uttered out loud (Boyle 47). Father Greg
acknowledged Lula and made conversation with him. This made him feel happy because Father
Greg knew who he was and took the time to converse with him. Even the smallest form of attention
can help a gang member understand they are someone who

How Is Walden Relate To Transcendentalism
Henry David Thoreau, a transcendentalist, wrote the masterpiece Walden that helped to shape
transcendentalist literature.
However mean your life is, meet it and live it; do not shun it and call it hard names. It is not so
bad as you are. It looks poorest when you are richest. The faultfinder will find faults even in
paradise. Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours
even in a poorhouse. (Thoreau 378).
In this moving line from Walden, Thoreau explains how to live and appreciate life to the fullest
extent. Thoreau shows that life can be challenging but always has its good moments and that we
should appreciate those little moments. Thoreau s Walden can be used to relate to today s society,...

We are judged based on wealth, looks, race, status, and education. Thoreau s Walden teaches us
that we must not judge one another based on those things, but based on how well we live our
lives and how much we appreciate them. Thoreau explains even the richest of the rich still find
faults in their lives so he asks us to look only look at the good.
Thoreau views faith as a universal soul in all of us. I do believe he is correct in some ways since all
of God s children are made in the divine image. In Walden, the Catholic faith beliefs can be found
when he says it is not so bad as you are (378). God has blessed us with this life, a life we take for
granted all the time. We see all the bad things as reasons to blame God, but what we should see is
His willingness to allow us free will. God doesn t want the bad, but He allows it because He knows
He can bring about a better good. Just as Thoreau says there is always good around we just have to
find it.
The short verse of Walden sums up many lives including my own. Everyday is a challenge with
school, my faith, friends, and family, but all those things are something I am extremely blessed
with. I find many faults in my life, things that are small and insignificant to the lives of others that
suffer and endure more than I do. Thoreau teaches me a valuable lesson, always be thankful for

Transformational Leadership and Transactional Theories
The domain of leadership theory and research has had many conceptualizations proposed over the
last few years (Avolio Bass, 2003). These conceptualizations seem to have generated recent interest
in the distinction among transformational, transactional, and laissez faire leadership research (Bass,
1990). Yukl (1998) noted that transformational leaders get followers to do as they desire by
transforming them or changing the followers themselves. According to Barlow, Jordan, and
Hendrix (2003), a transformational leader generates an image that awakens trust from subordinates
and develops relationships that enable subordinates to move toward goal attainment using their
knowledge, skills, and material resources to accomplish that end. Unlike transformational leaders,
transactional leaders pursue a cost benefit exchange approach that does not change subordinates and
uses portion or organizational resources to meet subordinates needs in return for contracted needs
rendered by the subordinates (Bass, 1990). Although these forms might appear diametrically
opposed, most theorists agree with Bass that they are not mutually exclusive. While
transformational, transactional, and passive/avoidant leadership are conceptually distinct, the same
individuals on a continuum might display these leadership behaviors by different amounts and
different intensities (Bass Avolio,

Plato’S Idea Of Civic Justice Displays A Criteria For...
Plato s idea of civic justice displays a criteria for specialization that holds each individual
responsible for producing their own rendition of excellence that leads to a just life, which
produces a just city, and ultimately civic justice. Plato describes civic justice as ...doing one s own
work provided that it comes to be in a certain way (433b pg.108).
The idea for a just city was constructed in the book, Plato Republic, and in that blueprint, the
ultimate goal was to have a just city, it should also be noted that before Plato there were numerous
theories of Justice. The other theories were proposed by Cephalus, Polymarchus, Trasymachus and
Glaucon all of which Plato did not agree with and all three had one common element. The element

Correspondent to the three elements of human nature are three classes in the social organism,
Guardians which are the rulers or philosopher class or the ruling class which represented
reasoning; the auxiliaries, a class of warriors which guard the city is representative of the spirit;
Producers are farmers, artisans which are basically the lower run of the ladder.
The other side of the coin is the idea of being unjust, Plato describes this as, meddling and
exchange between these classes, there is the greatest harm...and the worst thing one could do to
the city is cause injustice (434c pg109). The meddling and exchange between classes refers to the
idea of not having specialization, consequently this type of behavior is expressed as harmful,
because it leaves room for individuals to produce mediocre abilities.
The idea that jobs were chosen according to one s own abilities and temperament gives an
individual the tools to become the best they possibly can be. If the people were allowed to
choose their own jobs, they might discover down the line that it was a mistake allowing room for
these types of mistakes could cause the city to no longer be considered just, because not all of the
parts would be working toward the common goal. There would be a segment of the population that
would have to find other means for employment which would better suit them; this would be a very
tedious and long process.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Administrative Reports
Administrative Reports
Overview with tools, software, best practices and alternatives
What is an administrative report?
An administrative report is a document that presents the status and progress of certain work within
a team or a company.
Who does administrative reports?
An administrative report is usually done by a person with an administrative function. Common
examples are office secretaries and administrative delegates. Those with higher position such as
managers and supervisors are also eligible to create an administrative report.
Why do people write administrative reports?
Administrative reports are prepared to give the current status and progress of a certain project
within a team or a company. The report aims to note all aspects of the project within the team,
including the assessment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since the reports inform team members about these existing or rising issues, they will be able to
strategize and develop a plan to counter and resolve such issues.
Disadvantages of administrative reports
While administrative reports help in the workflow of a team s project, it also presents some flaws.
Some administrative reports have inaccurate or incomplete information, which may adversely affect
the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of data. For instance, inaccuracy of the
numbers in an inventory report in an administrative report may affect the succeeding shipment of
products. Another example is a list of cases in an administrative report in a hospital. Failure to list
all kinds of cases may change the results when data are analyzed.
The other negative point in administrative reports is that some readers only read the end part the
summary, conclusion, and recommendation. It may sometimes end up the reader asking questions,
instead of reading the whole paper.

Ethanol Fuel Persuasive Essay
In the reading passage, it focuses on the topic that ethanol is a bad alternative for gasoline for some
reasons, and the instructor concentrates on the same issue. However, the instructor claims that the
ethanol fuel indeed is a good replacement, which raises doubts about what the reading passage
asserts. The instructor, in the lecture, also provides some compelling evidence to back his point of
view.
To begin with, whereas the reading passage suggests that the increased use of ethanol fuel would
not help to solve one of the biggest environmental problems caused by gasoline use: global
warming, the lecturer argues that the use of ethanol fuel could reduce the carbon dioxide which is
the main factor to cause global warming. Even though the use of ethanol fuel create carbon
dioxide, the plants which are used to create the ethanol fuel are able to absorb the carbon dioxide.
As a result, the carbon dioxide can be removed, and the absorbing of carbon dioxide counteracts the
releasing of it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That is because a kind of plant can be used to create ethanol, and animals do not use this plant as
food. In other words, the amount of corn will not be reduced.
Lastly, the reading passage claims that the price of ethanol cannot compete with the price of
gasoline. However, the instructor verifies the claim is very weak by indicating the fact that the
price will be competitive in the future. The reason is that the price will drop when more producer
involves in producing ethanol fuel. The instructor also said that if the amount of ethanol fuel is 3
times than now, the cost will drop 40

Analysis Of The Minister s Black Veil
In this well known American Romanticism story, The Minister s Black Veil by Nathaniel
Hawthorne, we encounter a bizarre character who is our protagonist What American
Romanticism was is that it was a movement in the arts and literature that originated in the late
18th century, emphasizing inspiration, subjectivity, and the primacy of the individual. Mr.
Hooper was the protagonist and minister who have decided to pay penance by wearing a long
black veil over his head for the rest of his days. He was judged and criticised by his own
parishioners for his black veil as rumors about sinand adultery were going around the town. This
was a serious issue that even results in his ex fiancee breaking off their engagement for he vowed

Hooper has suffered a great deal for the remainder of his life. Although the minister never
explained why he wore it, there was much speculation as to why he did. Adultery, disloyalty,
addiction, and alcoholism were just some speculations as to the secret sin he was paying
penance for. The black veil has power over Mr. Hooper because he chose to conceal his sin
rather than show his fiancee before he lost her. This also tells us that Mr. Hooper is a man of his
word because even on his deathbed, the black veil remained on his face. The black veil was a
penance to Mr. Hooper because he wore it to show his secret sin and that he acknowledged it
rather than discarding it like most of the parishioners did. This united him with the lower class
and criminals because they felt like minister harper was on their side because it sowed his
imperfections. Yet at the same time, the close bond he had with his parishes was basically lost.
The black veil also gave this eerie aura to Mr. Hooper and it made his sermons more powerful to
the parishioners who took all his sermons to heart. To the parishioners, the black veil was seen as a
dark item that made them change their whole perspective on someone they once loved and

The Importance Of Collective Memory In 1984
Nineteen Eighty Four by George Orwell is one of the most famous books of all time and is easily
the most well known dystopian novel. Set in London in the year 1984 (surprise!) the story revolves
around a character named Winston and his small rebellion against his society, the nation of Oceania.
Oceania is a totalitarian society that attempts to control the thoughts of its citizens through the use
propaganda, young indoctrination, threat of punishment, and the constant modification of proof of
the past. Because of this extreme control over the society s collective thought and memory Oceania
believes that it can effectively control the past, present and future. Most people disagree with that
claim because they believe that the absolute truth... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eventually Winston is caught by Oceania and subjected to torture by a man named O Brien until
Winston agrees with everything Oceania claims, just like everyone else. It is very
understandable to argue with the point of view that fact does not matter, in fact, this is perhaps
the single policy of Oceania that Winston is most against. At one point Winston muses that if
[Oceania] could thrust its hand into the past and say of this or that event, it never happened that,
surely, was more terrifying than mere torture and death (35). And he is right, that is a terrifying
thought. Truisms are true, hold onto that! is the rallying call of logic, it says that two plus two
make four (93). That is what most ordinary people will hold onto, the belief that a true statement
deserves recognition as such no matter if most people claim as such. At various points in the
book Winston wonders that perhaps a lunatic was simply a minority of one (82). He flip flops
between the two sides but at one point, the point that people most agree with him, he decides that
if you clung to the truth even against the whole world, you were not mad (223). It seems logical to
agree with Winston and believe that reality is something objective, external, existing in its own
right but when one considers the society as a whole one realizes that statement does not matter. It
does not matter what reality is, or how a lone individual perceives reality,

Funds Of Knowledge Analysis
Funds of knowledge is a term developed by researchers while working with Mexican American
families and other families in poor communities (Allen, 2010). Funds of knowledge refers to the
strengths and resources within families, lived experiences and the knowledge that is
embedding in both community and home practices (Allen, 2010; Gonzalez, Moll Amanti, 2005).
Funds of knowledge focus on getting to know families in order to learn about both their family s
background, and also how this affects their children. My family is a typical middle class Australian
family. My father grew up on a farm in Western Australia, but because we lived so far away, we did
not go there very often. My father also took me to the local library every week and I enjoyed

The Pros And Cons Of Mars Exploration Rover
It is an understatement to say that the Mars Exploration Rover mission is successful, as the findings
that were uncovered during this mission was iconic as it helped identify many unknown questions
of the planet, Mars. This mission that was carried out by the National Aeronautics and Space
Administration, otherwise known as NASA, which had employed two rovers, Spirit and
Opportunity, to travel miles around the terrain of Marsto collect the data and findings, which would
then transfer it back to Earth. This paper will discuss many challenges that the Mars Exploration
Rover mission had encountered, whilst also highlighting through the findings and data, the many
breakthroughs and achievements that had been made during the lifecycle of the project. Therefore,
through analysing and evaluating the advancements and shortcomings of this mission, we can
continually make improvements on the methods of space explorationand have a greater
understanding of the past... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In overcoming the challenges along the way of the mission from launching to impact to egress, it
has allowed scientists and organisations such as NASA to gather more information about the
nature of the Mars, from the climate to the geology of the planet. The outcome and findings of
this mission has been a success and influential in the way we explore other planets to find the
possibility of past and/or present life on that planet. The rovers had discovered fluid and other
deposits on the surface of the planet, which may indicate that life can survive on this planet. The
uncovering of these physical environments has shaped the method and processes undertaken on
other missions in order to succeed and deliver the necessary answers to the questions of the

Global Warming Problems
Barack Obama once said, Climate change is no longer some far off problem; it is happening
here, it is happening now. One section of climate change Obama talks about is global warming.
This major topic has been a developing controversy around the world. Global warming is a growing
problem in the world and it needs to be solved. Global warmingis a growing problem that can be
seen in the history, cause, effect, different aspects, and possible solutions.
To start, global warming has been a growing problem for several years across the world. Global
warming is the warming of the Earth s atmosphere (Ward 56). The increase in temperature has to be
over a long period of time. When toxic gases like carbon dioxide and methane are released into the
open air and are trapped in the atmosphere (Staff). These greenhouse gases destroy the ozone
layer, making sunrays easier to reach Earth. This depletion overall increases the heat in the
world. In fact, the greenhouse gases entering the atmosphere cause a spike in global temperature,
known as global warming. In the beginning, global warming was first discovered by Joseph
Fourier in 1824. Fourier discovered that the atmospheric gases can increase global temperatures.
In 1938 Guy Callendar discovers that greenhouse effect is the cause of global warming. Several
more studies are taken over time to record the change in global temperature over many years. By
1968 glaciologist John Mercer argues that glaciers are beginning to melt due to the

The University Of Massachusetts s Management
The University of Massachusetts suffered a major ERP failure in 2003. The university had begun
work on the $10 million dollar project in 2000 as a replacement for the older ERP system (Rico,
2010). Under the previous system, each of the five University of Massachusetts s campuses had its
own systems that included the software, hardware, and project teams. Each was independently ran,
modified, and maintained by its respected campus. The Universityof Massachusetts identified the
need for a centralized ERP system that could standardize the many processes within it across all the
campuses.
The University of Massachusetts chose PeopleSoft for its ERP needs. PeopleSoft was a software
company that produced supply chain management, human resource, customer relation management,
and financial management software. PeopleSoft would later be acquired by Oracle in 2005 (Bank,
2014).
The University of Massachusetts s ERP project would include the student modules, financials, and
human resources. Early in the system development life cycle, the separate campuses had conflicting
issues concerning the details of the ERP. Too much time was wasted on minute details and not
enough time was spent developing the work plan / project framework for the upcoming project
(Solis, 2003).
Further, into the system development life cycle, more issues arose with leadership communication
and resources. There were also complaints that end users were not involved at the appropriate level.

The Death Of A Helmet
It all happened in a matter of seconds. He had decided to ride his motorcycle that day to work,
unaware that it was going to rain later than evening. The roads were slick with rain and various
other fluids, making the ride home a challenge. He was careful. At least, he thought he was.
Turning his head to look at the billboard on the side of the road, his front tire hit a pothole.
Beyond the face shield of his helmet, the terror on his face was evident as he lost control of bike
and began to slide across the pavement. Though he wore a helmet, it was ill fitting and it came off
as the out of control bike dragged him across the pavement. The friction from the bike sliding
across the asphalt caused sparks. Unfortunately, a car with an oil leak... Show more content on

That is, until we entered the age of bioengineering. By definition, biomedical engineering, or more
affectionately known as bioengineering, is the use of engineering philosophies in correlation with
the fields of biology and health care. It can range from from electrical and mechanics to the
chemistry side of the equation. Examples of this include, but are not limited to, prosthetic limbs,
lab grown organs, and implanted devices such as pace makers and insulin pumps. Though the actual
foundation of bioengineering is unclear, the earliest example is a wood and leather prosthetic toe
found on a three thousand year old Egyptian mummy (Lucas, 2004). Some noteworthy individuals
include John Charnley s artificial hip replacement(1961), Wilson Greatbatch s internal cardiac
pacemaker(1970), and Charles Hufnagel s artificial heart valve(1960). Being a branch of
bioengineering, regenerative medicine is the process of recreating human cells, tissues, or organ in
order to restore normal function. Regrowing organs to replaced damaged or unhealthy ones,
regenerating healthy tissue as a replacement to their diseased counterparts, and speeding up the
process of organ s healing themselves are all examples of regenerative medicine. To do this,
medical personnel must use stem cells. Stem cells, according to Stewart Sell, are

Scarlette O Hara Charater Analysis
SCARLETT O HARA Analysis Essay 02/13/12 SCARLETT O HARA Scarlett O Hara is a
woman who does what it takes to survive no matter what the case may be. In the book Gone
with the Wind, Scarlett O Hara plays a role of what most people might think is crazy. This upper
class southern belle living in the country side of Atlanta, Georgia just before the Civil War takes
place. She embarks on an adventure of turmoil, death, and deceitfulness. In this era of time during
the Civil War Scarlett did not care for it, in fact she pitied the fool to do such a act as war. Scarlett
went from this simple, but yet complicated teenager to an extremely deep and dark woman of
desperate needs. Scarlett possesses a remarkable talent for leadership, optimism,... Show more

Scarlett repeats variation of this line several times over the course of the novel when hardships
plague her. She knows that she often acts immorally and that she faces absurdly difficult
circumstances, and to avoid feelings of guilt and helplessness she simply avoids reflecting on her
life. Scarlett knows eventually she should mull over her plight, but she always puts it off until
another, different day, which never truly comes. But this refusal to reflect is crucial to Scarlett s
survival. Her attitude contrasts directly with Ashley s obsession with the past and inability to let
go of nostalgia and adapt to new times. Scarlett s determination tomorrow is another day indicates
her fundamental optimism about the future. Because Scarlett represents the South, her optimism
indicates Mitchell s general optimism about the South s ability to survive the face of change. An
America soon to be upended by revolutions in attitudes toward race, gender and sexual morals
(Keller, 2009). Scarlett manages to overcome adversity through brute strength of will. She
emerges as a feminist heroine because she relies on herself alone and survives the Civil War and
reconstruction unaided. She rebuilds Tara after the Yankee invasion and works her way up in the
new political order, taking care of helpless family members and friends along the way. Scarlett gave
birth to Melanie Hamilton s baby alone and while invasion of the Yankees thru Atlanta was

The Federalist Party Vs. The United States
By 1800, the Federalist Party was divided, clearing the way to the presidency for the Democratic
Republicans. Federalists like Washington and Adams wanted the federal government to have most
of the power in the United States. The non Federalists, Jefferson and Madison, during that time
wanted a small federal government with very little power. They were very much concerned with
state rights and individual freedom for the people. The political shift from Federalists, Washington
and Adams, to Democratic Republicans, Jefferson and Madison, resulted in non Federalists coming
to power and a shifting of government focus, the repealing of policies such as the Alien and
Sedition Actsand the Judiciary Act of 1808, and westward expansion.... Show more content on

Jefferson, as a non Federalist, believed that Hamilton s national bank was unconstitutional and
decided to abandon that policy, trim the federalist budget, and cut taxes. Jefferson, as a Democratic
Republican, did not like or trust the government due to its limit on the freedom of the individuals,
but he acknowledged the necessity. Jefferson believed in a democracy where the people and the
states had most of the power, which was a great step away from the policies the federalists had been
putting in place. In order to fulfill the non federalist s wishes to return power to the state, it meant
relinquishing powers of the central government, and this began with repealing the alien and
sedition acts put in place by the federalists. One of Adam s major flaws in his presidency was the
execution of the Alien and Sedition Acts, which allowed the government to compulsorily banish
foreigners and jail newspaper editors for scandalous writing. The acts were political, aimed at
abolishing new settlers support for Democratic Republicans. The Sedition Act strictly regulated anti
government speech and was a clear violation of the First Amendment. When the Federalists came
into power, they repealed the Alien and Sedition acts, and Jefferson led the opposition to them.
Together with Madison, he drafted the Virginia and Kentucky Resolutions, which claimed that the
Alien and Sedition Acts were unconstitutional. In addition, before the federalists had left

owned subsidiary because each joint venture partner in Slimline benefits from the others unique
knowledge and expertise. Mast industries provides a vast network of clientele, Courtaulds provides
great production power due to it being the largest apparel manufacturer in the UK, and MAS
provides Slimline with the world s first carbon neutral textile facility. Each partner brings something
to the table that the others cannot, which is why they chose to participate in the joint venture.
3. From the perspective of each of the partners, there are potential pitfalls to joining this joint
venture. Each company is grouped with two other partners, which is risky because there are
greater liabilities. If one of the partner s reputations suffers, as a result, all of the partner s
reputations under Slimline will as well suffer. They need to work as a team and continue to do
what they are doing in order to continue growing. They all have things that benefit each one, so

Rules In Ayn Rand s Anthem
Rules have been around since the beginning of time for the purpose of safety and control in a
population. But, what happens when there are more rules in place for the sake of control as
opposed to safety? The novel Anthem shows that when there are more rules for control of
individuals minds, they will be broken because the individuals realize there is more to be
discovered than what they are being told. This can be seen through the plotand climax, as well as in
the characterization of the protagonist and antagonist, and through Equality 7 2521 s first person
point of view.

Liberal Arts Institutions
Discussion
The specific focus of this article is looking at how likely liberal arts institutions will adapt to
their peer groups [similar liberal arts institutions in a consortium] by offering and awarding
degrees in professional areas of study (e.g. business, communications, public affairs, etc.). The
article also considers the influence of other institutional variables that may be more or less likely
to predict the adoption of these professional programs. These additional variables seem to relate
back to two previous discussion points, resource dependency, and field level dynamics. Kraatz
(1998) does discuss both of these phenomena in his findings (p. 637) of how resource dependence,
and a prior history of change affected institutional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similar to the previous two articles, this evolution of an institution s paradigm will certainly take
time. However, in order for institutional survival, the slow turning ship analogy often used to
describe universities will not serve institutions for very much longer.
OVERALL SYNTHESIS
Each of the readings from week 9 play into each other, and themes emerge that can help build new
theories and expand the opportunity for future research in institutional change. As referenced in
Clark (2004), institutions are extremely complex, and arguably increasing their complexity with
every passing year. The notion that one theory or framework can explain the best way for an
institution to change is delusional. The influences of so many factors at play make approaches and
explanations themselves just as complex as the organizations they are intending to change.

  • 2. Comparing Plato s Cave Allegory And The Matrix Both Plato s Cave Allegory and the matrix discuss the topic of truth and illusion. In both of the story it was established that we humans live in the darkness, an illusion which is merely the shadow of the truth. However, once in a while a person will wake up from the illusory dream and realized the cold hard truthof reality. Should that person overjoyed of the fact that he or she discovered the truth or should that person weep in sorrow since he or she can no longer go back and continuing living in the shadow? In both Plat s Cave Allegory and the matrixthose who were thrown out of their illusions into the cold hard truth end up having to deal with the consequence that comes from realizing it. Whether it is becoming a social outcast,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is also the mentality that gave protagonists described in the Cave Allegory and the Matrix so much trouble, it is difficult for people to change their established perception about the world, especially when it was already accepted by the majority. Thus there is no good in knowing the truth even if it is good and wonderful, because what that get you are the risks of being labeled as social outcast. For example, what if a person told you that Donald trump have escaped the cave of chains and realized the greater reality and what he has been doing and trying to do all these time have been attempting to enlighten us: the people who are still in chains, what would you think? Obviously you will believe that person who told you this is being ridiculous and probably need mental health treatment. But what if the entire world buys into that fact? Then it is likely for you to change your mind. Since you must have realized that is no way the entire world can be wrong and even if you do have a different opinion you would likely to doubt your stance. Most importantly you don t want to be sent to mental hospitals. Due to concept the herd mentality that we humans inherently have, there is no benefit in knowing the truth unless you can convince the entire world; otherwise then you are merely a heretic to the majority ... • 3. Theme Of Persuasion In To Kill A Mockingbird She did what? With who? Oh my lord! Well, I never. Miss Stephanie Crawford is the town busybody, having no remorse nor any ability to apologize for the rumors she s spread. this example is seen many times in the novel, To Kill A Mockingbird. In every single incident she is involved in, Miss Crawford has been one of the antagonists. Her position is to know every single ridiculous detail about her neighbors, no matter if the rumor hurts or helps them in the long run. Most likely however, the rumor is going to hurt them. She keeps the gossip mill flowing along with her group of middle aged unimportant women. Although not a extremely significant antagonist in the plot she still counts because she moves the story along in the most interesting of ways while feeding the readers important information, and being comic relief.... • 4. Health Risks Associated With The Additives You Are What You Eat Do you read the labels on the products you buy? Do you know what is put in the food you consume? There are many health risks associated with the additives in products. Most Americans are unaware of the risks that are linked with the additives in commonly purchased products. My daughter was one year old when I realized she was allergic to artificial coloring. One morning we woke up and I made us a toasty bagel. I topped the warm crunchy bagel with light pink, strawberry, cream cheese. We enjoyed our bagel as we watched Sunday morning cartoons. Suddenly I noticed her face was as red as a cherry. In a panic I took her to the bathroom to check for other symptoms. She was red from head to toe with red raised bumps all over. I immediately called the doctor, who advised me to take her to the emergency room. After the doctor examined her she told us it was a food allergy. I realized she broke out after eating food that contained artificial coloring. Once I started to look at labels, to avoid buying harmful products, I realized almost everything contained added coloring. Many manufactures over use artificial coloring in the United States, which can lead to serious health problems. Americans need to become aware of what is added to our food, and ban artificial coloring. How can we find a solution to a problem, if most of us are UN aware that a problem exists? First, we must find out what is in artificial colors. Artificial color, food color, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Should Pluto Be Considered A Planet Essay Many may urge that Pluto should be considered a planet for it has similar characteristics as the planets of the Solar System; however, others still believe that Pluto should not be considered a planet because of its slight differences and conditions that are not matched. Pluto is recognised by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) as a dwarf planet for it doesn t match the third condition of what defines a planet. IAU proposed three conditions to becoming a planet. The first condition being: (a) is in orbit around the Sun; the second condition being: (b) has sufficient mass for its self gravity to overcome rigid body forces so that it assumes a hydrostatic equilibrium (nearly round) shape; the third condition, in which Pluto has not met the standards to, being:(c) has cleared the neighbourhood around its orbit. Pluto doesn t meet the standards to the final condition as Pluto follows the orbit path of some asteroid like objects in space and are surrounded with these objects. If people were to ignore the third condition and recognise Pluto ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Reporters with interest in Pluto have published many articles related to the matter of whether Pluto should be considered a planet. Many are opposing the opinion that Pluto should not be considered a planet as the third condition is very vague. For instance, the Earth s neighbourhood could be considered as not cleared out as the moon is following it around; Jupiter is continuously having contact with asteroids named Trojans, and Neptune s orbit crosses over with Pluto s orbit. The Guardian stated in one of it s articles that Pluto should not have a ban from being a planet due to its small size. IAU, however, has not made any regards on this criticism. These opposing views about Pluto may be correct in a way; however, factually speaking, Pluto is still not considered as a planet as IAU has not made any changes towards its definition of the word, ... • 6. Essay on What Is Accountability in the Army What is accountability and the definition: (DOD) The obligation imposed by law or lawful order or regulation on an officer or other person for keeping accurate record of property, documents, or funds. The person having this obligation may or may not have actual possession of the property, documents, or funds. Accountability is concerned primarily with records, while responsibility is concerned primarily with custody, care, and safekeeping. Why is accountability important to the Army? Accountability is a very important part of an enlisted and a NCO s job. The enlisted soldier is responsible for all items issued to issued to him weather it be a weapon, NVG s, clothes, a vehicle, or some TA 50, a feild manual, medication (morphine, demoral,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A soldier must understand that no one will care about his or hers property as much as their leaders do. When we do a chain of command change over, we must pull 100% of all equipment that belongs to our platoon and show that we have everything that was hand receipted to us. The leaders that hold our sub hand receipts will be a mixed bag: some will be great at accounting for their property; some will not. So as a soldier I should personally ensure that things are done right .Certainly, the change of command inventory is a critical part of property accountability. However, a commander is less likely to have problems with property during the change of command inventory when everyone s attention is on it and the inventory is the commander s only responsibility. Assertions of responsibility can mean a number of different things. We might be making a judgment of someone s character, implying that a soldier can be trusted to act responsibly. We might refer to a person s responsibilities, as expressed by my responsibilities in my job areВ… or Tom has a lot of responsibilities . We might mean that someone was responsible for bringing something about. But these responses don t take us far towards a satisfactory answer to the question What do we mean when we talk about responsibilities . To advance our understanding of responsible action we need to know who is responsible, and for what. The question Who is responsible? has both practical and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Data Analysis And Data Mining The exponentially increasing amounts of data being generated each year make getting useful information from that data more and more critical. The information frequently is stored in a data warehouse, a repository of data gathered from various sources, including corporate databases, summarized information from internal systems, and data from external sources. Analysis of the data includes simple query and reporting, statistical analysis, more complex multidimensional analysis, and data mining. Data analysis and data mining are a subset of business intelligence(BI), which also incorporates data warehousing, database management systems, and Online. The technologies are frequently used in customer relationship management (CRM) to analyze patterns and query customer databases. Large quantities of data are searched and analyzed to discover useful patterns or relationships, which are then used to predict future behavior. Some estimates indicate that the amount of new information doubles every three years. To deal with the mountains of data, the information is stored in a repository of data gathered from various sources, including corporate databases, summarized information from internal systems, and data from external sources. Properly designed and implemented, and regularly updated, these repositories, called data warehouses, allow managers at all levels to extract and examine information about their company, such as its products, operations, and customers buying habits. Some can be a joy to work with, while others may not be as easy going. As an employee, at my current job, I ve had good and bad experience with my fellow coworkers, but over the course of time I ve learned how to handle this type of situation. At any job you will have to know how to deal with different types of coworkers. To my understanding coworkers can be classified into three major groups: slackers, overachievers, and neutral co workers. The slackeris the one who is unwilling to work or use energy and probably the worst one to work with. These sluggish co workers show up to work five to ten minutes late and have the nerve... They are depicted to be bossy and love to take charge, but when they do something wrong they wont hesitiate to throw you under the bus to save themselves. For example, during one of my many shifts I had to work with one of my least favorite co worker, Sabrina. That afternoon we agreed to split the several task assigned to us in half so we would finish faster. During the time we had to complete these task, we also had to be at the register attending customers as they approched us. As the day progressed I have taken notice that all the items I have stocked up was rearranged, but everytime I would reposition the item, it would change positions again or it would be relocated to another section of the store. I soon found out that my co worker was not just finishing her task but changing what she believed was wrong with my display. Of course, I let this type of situation slide a little because everyone knows how she is, however, soon after our manager approached us, and politely asked who was the one that stocked up the items. Sabrina shot up and proudly announced that she did it all by herself, which obviously was not true, and goes to show that everything she had stocked up was not in the correct shelves. Although it was her mistake and I had nothing to do with it, she tried dragging me down with her to save herself. In addition, our other fellow co worker, Dora, never talked to anyone else except for the customers, but she was not as nice and polite as everyone may have thought. In place stood a woman with dark, tired eyes, unclean and unmotivated, she had hardly left her bed, the world felt scary. She always knew, Ric s death would be hard on her, but she did not think it would be this hard and she was avoiding people at all costs. She had briefly spoken to Jess, who called to see how she was; it was an emotional call, in which Jess, offered to take control of the funeral plans. Serena, sounded so broken, and so adamant that she could not arrange it herself, she did not know where to begin, and although, Jess had lost her father, and the emotional baring was tough on her. Jess, felt that the pressure of a arranging a funeral could see Serena fall into darker depths. Other than Jess, Serena had not spoken to anyone; she had not even told her own daughter of Ric s death, she did not want to disrupt her university work. Serena did not want Eleanor, to feel responsible for her; it was not her job to look after her. Sometimes such document can tell us about the past even more than a history textbook, because it has direct relation to the past and connected with the historical period by the author s personal feelings, thoughts and memories about the past. In 1782 a French writer Hector St. John de Crevecoeur published Letters from an American Farmer , where he put the beginning to the famous idea of the United Statesas a melting pot of different nations and cultures that harmonically mixed together and created a new American nation. The excerpt from the mentioned Crevecoeur s work dipped me in America of post revolutionary period, when newborn and independent country appeared and new nation was created, and gave an opportunity to imagine what the idea of an American man was in the reflection of a new coming immigrant from Europe. In Letters from an American Farmer Hector St. John de Crevecoeur appealed to the European readers in order to tell them about new country and give them an idea of what was the man of the New World; what were his values and principles. • 15. The History Of Nanocomposites During World War II The History of Nanocomposites Before the use of nanocomposites, humans have used natural composites to improve their welfare and way of life throughout history. The Mesopotamians would use natural adhesive to glue wood pieces in different ways to make plywood. Archaeologists have found multiple natural composites used by ancient civilizations, but one of the most prevalent was the use of straw. Utilizing straw allowed these civilizations to increase the strength of their building bricks, thus making there shelters stronger. This is how natural composites were first used by early humans. In the 1930s, numerous synthetic composite technological breakthroughs were born. In 1935, Owens Corning launched the fiber reinforce polymer (FRP) industry by introducing the first fiber glass. In 1936, unsaturated polyester resins were patented. Because of their curing properties, they would become the dominant choice for resins in manufacturing today. In 1938, other higher performance resin systems like epoxies also became available. (Cite) The creation of FRP was vital to the military during World War II due to its notably high to strength to weight ratio. Not only was FRP used for electronic housings and other electronic components, but was also used to create the first fiberglass reinforced boat hull. The war efforts spawned copious amounts of commercial products made with FRP. This is how synthetic and natural composites were revolutionized during the 20th century. A ... • 16. Carl Rogers Person Centered Theory The person centered theory was created by Carl Rogers in the 1940s. At the time when this approach began it was considered radically different than those that were available. All theories were predominately therapist centered, symptom focused, or orientated to making personality changes. Rogers approach let the clients take charge and lead their direction of change. Rogers was the first to use the word client to refer to an individual seeking psychotherapy. Implicit in his theory is the basic premise that people are essentially good. The person centered theory views an individual from a different perspective than other theories in that what is important is an individual s perception of their reality rather than the event itself. This is so central to his theory that it is often referred to as self theory. In order for a healthy self to emerge, people need genuine and positive regard. However, if in childhood an individual receives conditional acceptance, it teaches them to feel valued only when they conform to others wishes (GCU, 2014; Murdock, 2013). In using the person centered theory approach there are considerations to apply such as goals and interventions, theory duration, counselor s role, client s role, appropriate populations, social and cultural needs, and risks.. Goals and Interventions The goals of the person centered theory include focusing on the client as a person, not their problems. Clients are assisted in learning how to cope with the ... • 18. Poland s Economic Reform Plan Of 1989 The year of 1989 is generally regarded as a watershed moment in the history of Eastern Europe the one which effectively ended the dominance of Communist politics in the region formerly known as the Soviet Bloc. Comprised of Poland, Czechoslovakia, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania, and East Germany, this region was politically and economically depended on the Soviet Unionthat largely dictated the official ideological orientation of the Soviet Bloc nations. In 1989, the region s dependence on the Soviet Union effectively came to an end along with the communist hegemony in Eastern Europe. At the same time, Eastern Europeans finally discovered the opportunity to make a transition from centralized socialismto democratic and decentralized form of market economy that was largely modeled on the Western democracies. The following chapter examines the extent to which Western theoretical and institutional trends influenced Polands economic reform plan of 1989. At the same time, it seeks to account for Poland s own local tradition of neoliberal thought. In so doing, it aims to dispel the oversimplified interpretation of the transnational exchange between Polish and American economists according to which the former had to learn from scratch while the former assumed the role of educators. As various commentators have observed, the Eastern European transition to market economy took Western neoliberalism as its principal ideological model. It is no secret, for instance, that Jeffrey ... • 20. Peacekeeping An Effective Method Of Conflict Intervention... While peacekeeping has become a mainstay of the United Nations collaboration in international affairs, it is evident that peacekeeping no longer espouses the ideals it was create with. Peacekeeping has devolved into ineffective barbarisms. This is evident in the sexual abuses perpetrated by peacekeepers, the growing complexity of peacekeepingmandates, which is at times in conflict with United Nationsprinciples, and the lack of legal institutions surrounding peacekeeping, which validates a belief of impunity. However, peacekeeping is not to be totally derided as, in certain situations, it can be effective at limiting civilian deaths. Furthermore, peacekeeping can be made effective if several reforms are enacted. These include an effective legal order, an understanding of local culture, and developing strong relationships within the jurisdiction of the operation. These changes could make peacekeeping an effective method of conflict intervention. Peacekeepers have committed various sexual crimes against local populations whilst under the purview of the United Nations, yet few of these peacekeepers have ever been prosecuted for their crimes. The international community became aware of the damaging deficiencies of peacekeeping during the decade leading up to the twenty first century (Wills 2013, 49; Odello and Burke 2016, 839). The Riddle os the Fourth Gospel by Poul Anderson Anderson writes The Riddles of the Fourth Gospel to provide students, of any level, with an overview and evaluation of the varying approaches to understanding the Fourth Gospel, and ultimately to serve as a guide through the controversy and riddles encountered in the Fourth Gospel. Anderson addresses the work of the international community of Johannine scholars and introduces a new set of paradigms. The introduction immediately captivates those who have yet to wade in the perplexities of the Fourth Gospelby bombarding the reader with the many puzzlements of the Fourth Gospel. Anderson tackles the issue in three parts. Part one introduces the most perplexing of the Johannine riddles. After an outline of the Gospel of John, Anderson presents the threefold riddles: theological, historical, and literary. Anderson considers familiarity with the points of contention a requisite for engaging, addressing, and interpreting them. Chapter one exposes the central features of the Fourth Gospel; which effectively reveals the dissimilarities between John and the Synoptic Gospels. Chapter two uncovers the theological riddles of the Fourth Gospel, both incidental and highly significant. Transformational Leadership and Transactional Theories The domain of leadership theory and research has had many conceptualizations proposed over the last few years (Avolio Bass, 2003). These conceptualizations seem to have generated recent interest in the distinction among transformational, transactional, and laissez faire leadership research (Bass, 1990). Yukl (1998) noted that transformational leaders get followers to do as they desire by transforming them or changing the followers themselves. According to Barlow, Jordan, and Hendrix (2003), a transformational leader generates an image that awakens trust from subordinates and develops relationships that enable subordinates to move toward goal attainment using their knowledge, skills, and material resources to accomplish that end. Unlike transformational leaders, transactional leaders pursue a cost benefit exchange approach that does not change subordinates and uses portion or organizational resources to meet subordinates needs in return for contracted needs rendered by the subordinates (Bass, 1990). Although these forms might appear diametrically opposed, most theorists agree with Bass that they are not mutually exclusive. While transformational, transactional, and passive/avoidant leadership are conceptually distinct, the same individuals on a continuum might display these leadership behaviors by different amounts and different intensities (Bass Avolio,

Ethanol Fuel Persuasive Essay In the reading passage, it focuses on the topic that ethanol is a bad alternative for gasoline for some reasons, and the instructor concentrates on the same issue. However, the instructor claims that the ethanol fuel indeed is a good replacement, which raises doubts about what the reading passage asserts. The instructor, in the lecture, also provides some compelling evidence to back his point of view. To begin with, whereas the reading passage suggests that the increased use of ethanol fuel would not help to solve one of the biggest environmental problems caused by gasoline use: global warming, the lecturer argues that the use of ethanol fuel could reduce the carbon dioxide which is the main factor to cause global warming. Adultery, disloyalty, addiction, and alcoholism were just some speculations as to the secret sin he was paying penance for. The black veil has power over Mr. Hooper because he chose to conceal his sin rather than show his fiancee before he lost her. This also tells us that Mr. Hooper is a man of his word because even on his deathbed, the black veil remained on his face. The black veil was a penance to Mr. Hooper because he wore it to show his secret sin and that he acknowledged it rather than discarding it like most of the parishioners did. This united him with the lower class and criminals because they felt like minister harper was on their side because it sowed his imperfections. Yet at the same time, the close bond he had with his parishes was basically lost. At one point Winston muses that if [Oceania] could thrust its hand into the past and say of this or that event, it never happened that, surely, was more terrifying than mere torture and death (35). And he is right, that is a terrifying thought. Truisms are true, hold onto that! is the rallying call of logic, it says that two plus two make four (93). That is what most ordinary people will hold onto, the belief that a true statement deserves recognition as such no matter if most people claim as such. At various points in the book Winston wonders that perhaps a lunatic was simply a minority of one (82). He flip flops between the two sides but at one point, the point that people most agree with him, he decides that if you clung to the truth even against the whole world, you were not mad (223). One section of climate change Obama talks about is global warming. This major topic has been a developing controversy around the world. Global warming is a growing problem in the world and it needs to be solved. Global warmingis a growing problem that can be seen in the history, cause, effect, different aspects, and possible solutions. To start, global warming has been a growing problem for several years across the world. Global warming is the warming of the Earth s atmosphere (Ward 56). The increase in temperature has to be over a long period of time. When toxic gases like carbon dioxide and methane are released into the open air and are trapped in the atmosphere (Staff). These greenhouse gases destroy the ozone layer, making sunrays easier to reach Earth. This depletion overall increases the heat in the world. In fact, the greenhouse gases entering the atmosphere cause a spike in global temperature, known as global warming. In the beginning, global warming was first discovered by Joseph Fourier in 1824. Fourier discovered that the atmospheric gases can increase global temperatures. In 1938 Guy Callendar discovers that greenhouse effect is the cause of global warming. Jefferson believed in a democracy where the people and the states had most of the power, which was a great step away from the policies the federalists had been putting in place. In order to fulfill the non federalist s wishes to return power to the state, it meant relinquishing powers of the central government, and this began with repealing the alien and sedition acts put in place by the federalists. But, what happens when there are more rules in place for the sake of control as opposed to safety? • 56. Liberal Arts Institutions Discussion The specific focus of this article is looking at how likely liberal arts institutions will adapt to their peer groups [similar liberal arts institutions in a consortium] by offering and awarding degrees in professional areas of study (e.g. business, communications, public affairs, etc.). The article also considers the influence of other institutional variables that may be more or less likely to predict the adoption of these professional programs. These additional variables seem to relate back to two previous discussion points, resource dependency, and field level dynamics. Kraatz (1998) does discuss both of these phenomena in his findings (p. 637) of how resource dependence, and a prior history of change affected institutional ... However, in order for institutional survival, the slow turning ship analogy often used to describe universities will not serve institutions for very much longer. OVERALL SYNTHESIS Each of the readings from week 9 play into each other, and themes emerge that can help build new theories and expand the opportunity for future research in institutional change. As referenced in Clark (2004), institutions are extremely complex, and arguably increasing their complexity with every passing year. The notion that one theory or framework can explain the best way for an institution to change is delusional. The influences of so many factors at play make approaches and explanations themselves just as complex as the organizations they are intending to change.
