Essay on The Return of the Ruined Banker
The Return of the Ruined Banker The setting for this ghost story was at Sturdivant Hall, in Selma,
Alabama in the 1860 s.
Sturdivant Hall had been constructed in 1852. This stately mansion had six tall white pillars in the
front. There were many parlors downstairs and an abundance of spacious bedrooms upstairs.
There were large fig trees, shrubs, and scuppernong vines on either side of the home. A group of
visitors had gathered to take a to tour of this beautiful mansion; then, the guide revealed something
quite remarkable. (Windham and Figh, 79)
The guests were admiring the graceful proportions of the downstairs parlors and had made their way
to an upstairs bedroom. The guide was describing the rope laced trundle bed and ... Show more

(Windham and Figh, 81) Life was good. Then, with a suddenness that shocked the entire community,
John
Parker s career ended in disgrace. The youthful bank president speculated in cotton and invested the
bank s money, only to lose it all, when the price of cotton dropped, and he could not cover the losses.
Because federal money was deposited in The First National Bank, General Swayne, a commanding
officer of the United States troops in the Selma district moved in quickly, closed the bank and had
Parkman arrested. (Windham and Figh, 81) Parkman was taken under guard to Cahaba and confined
in Castle Morgan, the prison which had only a short time before been used by the Confederate
government for the incarceration of Yankee prisoners. He managed to escape from that prison;
however, as he was climbing a prison wall, an alarm sounded, and some shots were fired . There were
several stories surrounding Parkman s fate. Some people speculated that he dived into the nearby river
and drowned. Other people claimed his body was buried under one of the huge trees at the rear of
Sturdivant Hall.
Although his death remained a mystery, students of the supernatural say that Parkman s ghost had

Analysis of Chapter 14 of the Communication and the...
In chapters five through nine of Change of State: Information, Policy, and Power by Sandra Braman,
the information policy principles found in the United States Constitution are assessed and the
influence that they have on the identity, structure, borders, and progression (of the state and on the
individuals, communities, and organizations that make it up) are discussed. Braman presents current
law, trends and penalties of several information policy issues for each category it affects. In this part
of the book Braman defines how information policy affects identity and the structure of society.
Furthermore an in depth analysis of how new borders is defined and then furthers the creation of new
laws is presented. This book is attempting to prove that the power of the informational state is
threatened by the increase of technology.
Chapters five and six explain the separation of the informational, social and technological systems of
the state. Modern society is changing due to the increasingly dependent social and information
systems. These chapters examine the legal issues that arise in the informational state, spanning from
intellectual property rights to the ideas of the information commons. Braman believes that, both
communal and individual identity are constructed via flows of communication, introduction of any
new information or communication technology influences the ways in which we relate to each other
and form into groups (p. 165).

Thomas Hobbes And The Leviathan And Nicomachean Ethics
Thomas Hobbes and Aristotle address the role that governments have in the promotion of good virtue
amongst their citizens in The Leviathan and Nicomachean Ethics. The authors offer ideas along
similar lines. This is in regards to the belief that Hobbes and Aristotle hold, which is that governments
do have a role in promoting good morals and leading a virtuous life; Hobbes by sovereignty and
Aristotle through means of reaching telos. Thomas Hobbes position is made in The Leviathan, in
which he argues that citizens are less troubled when they agree to a commonwealth, or a unity of them
all because they are unified in that they constitute one single person (Hobbes 79). When men agree to
be governed by a sovereign, he is then responsible for encouraging them to lead virtuous lives by
practicing good morals. They could not be led astray because the sovereign is such a supreme
example, this is why they are given the freedom of choice. He would also argue against neutrality on
behalf of the government, because he does not believe that human nature always serves as the best
guide for humans. Aristotle s Nicomachean Ethics is similar to Hobbes work, in that he also agrees
that government should promote good morals. However, it differs as Aristotle thinks that the main
responsibility of a government is to see to it that their citizens are capable of reaching their telos. Telos
is something that can only be accomplished by a virtuous and free being, it is essentially a state of

Workplace Mediation
Unit 1
AO1 Describe the causes and effects of workplace conflicts
Conflict is an inevitable and is part of business life, where there are people there will always be
conflict, not all conflict is negative. Some workplace conflict s healthy and if viewed positively,
however where unhealthy conflict is present it has a potential risk to cause the company serious
problems Workplace conflict can be in many forms from serious flare ups to less obvious, but less
destructive forms of negativity. Workplace conflict can be caused by personality clashes or style
differences and personal. Workplace factors such as poor leadership, poor management, unfair
treatment, poor communication, budgets, discrimination, Unrealistic work expectations ... Show more

Low trust can paralyze the business because conflict situations are addressed with ridicule, anger, or
silence and results in fear of conflict, and lack of commitment. In the same company the MD promised
staff things but would never carry them out, this made staff frustrated and they did not trust anything
he said and this generated a very poor work environment. Under performance can create more
conflict, have a major effective on the business strategy, productivity, morale of other team members.
Resulting in failure to pass on information or act on information received, withdrawal or non
communicative behaviour, aggressiveness towards others, lengthy absences from the work area,
excessive or unexplained absenteeism, unusually delayed completion of work. In my experience under
performance is generally down to poor management or the style of the manager. Covert sabotage is
deliberate damage to work processes and of management s efforts and usually occurs when employees
are angry at their employer but it can be directed at fellow employee especially when conflict exists. A
good example of this was when I was an apprentice on of my colleagues had the lock of his tool
cabinet filled with glue which meant he could not unlock it and get his tools out to start work. It later
came to light that this was done by one of his colleagues because he was always getting the best jobs
and he was the foreman s favourite. Low morale has a destructive effect on performance,

Expand Current Operations:
Because Good Hotel has demonstrated positive gains and performance I do not feel expansion is a
wise decision. Though the current trends show increases, the data trend is only 17 months, not long
enough to support this decision.
Discontinue Current Operations:
Lastly, there is sufficient data to support continued operations therefore; to discontinue operations I
feel would not be wise. JdV has found a niche market who is willing to pay the increased cost to visit
Good Hotel.
3. How would you characterize Good Hotel s target customers? American sociologist Paul Ray coined
the phrase Cultural Creatives or Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability (LOHAS) . (Pearce, 2012, p.

However, Exhibit 3 demonstrates the household income for the target audience at $65,700 (Brooks, S)
not allowing enough expendable income to support frequent stays at Good Hotel. However, this is
only a segment of a customer base consisting of 38 million people with the spending power of $209
billion annually according to the Natural Marketing Institute. (Pearce, 2012, p. 10 5)

Analyzing Winslow Homer s The Gulf Stream
Introduction
Winslow Homer, The Gulf Stream, 1899, Oil Painting Canvas, 28 1/8inches x 49 1/8inches The Gulf
Stream painting by Winslow Homer depicts what life is like for some fishermen in the ocean. What we
see fishermen bring from their long expeditions are ocean creatures of different sizes and shapes.
Winslow in this painting is telling the story of a fisherman who went fishing but, in his expedition, he
was the main target for the sharks, the fish for the sharks. In this painting, the fisherman who is lying
on the boat is shown to have lost hope and believe the worst is yet to come hence, he looked to have

The Frontiers of American History in Last Child of the...
In the second chapter of Last Child of the Woods, Richard Louv makes the claim that there have been
three frontiers in the course of American history. The first phase was the original frontier, before the
Industrial Revolution. This was the time of the prairie schooner, the cowboy, the herds of bison that
were thousands strong. This was a rough, hard time, when man and nature were constantly thrown
together. There was wilderness to spare, and people were willing to move West to get to it. The second
phase came into being after the Industrial Revolution. Land that was available to homesteaders had
run out. Yet the American people still considered themselves frontier explorers. Times had been trying
during the Westward Expansion, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not only are they taught that building things outside are bad, but because of the disappearance of
natural spaces within cities, nature is not as accessible to kids. This leads to what Louv calls, Nature
Deficit Disorder, the lack of relationship between children and nature.
Richard Louv uses Logos in several different ways throughout this selection. He collects research
from many different studies, interviews parents, and finds sources from history. In his second chapter
especially, he uses numerous examples of scientific experiments to back his point that people really do
not have an adequate realization of the difference between humans and animals. In his third chapter,
he conducted an interview with a parent who had moved to a certain neighborhood because of the
abundance of outdoor areas. Louv uses this interview to illustrate his point that even if nature is
available, it really is not supposed to be used for unstructured recreation. In his second chapter, he
draws on U.S. Census Bureau reports to illustrate the decline of the family farm. He uses historical
events and ideas to show his idea of the romanticizing of the American frontier. Through these
concrete examples, he is able to persuade the reader that his ideas and theories are valid. I think that
Louv is right in his opinion that kids are losing touch with nature. This epidemic is not just in big
cities, but wherever technology has a hold. Technology has become

Swot Analysis of Ryanair
2. Procedure
The research for this report, which is focused on a S.W.A.T. analysis on Ryanair, was fully based on
internet web sites. For full information, refer to the bibliography at the end of he report.
3. Findings
3.1 Strengths
a. Leadership in the low cost sector
Ryanair was Europe s original low fares airline and is still Europe s largest low fares carrier. Currently
the company carries over 35m. passengers on 325 low fare routes across 21 European countries (
Ryanair).
As a matter of fact Ryanair is currently the largest low cost company on the market with 12 European
bases, a fleet of over 250 aircrafts and more than 2700 employees.
Moreover the company provides frequent point to point services which allows them to avoid ... Show

In addition the company is now recruiting its cabin crew in Poland and in Latvia in order to cut further
down its costs, the fact is that people spend enormous amounts of money(for their standards) for a
English course provided from the company in order to get a chance to get hired, which represents not
only a bad image but also a bad advertisement for Ryanair.
In general the whole staff is working under big pressure set by an overhead person and most
commonly with feelings of unsatisfaction.
b. Low quality services and attitudes towards customers
b.1. Disabled people
Bob Ross successfully sued Britain s favourite airline on January 30. Ross has stamina problems as a
result of having cerebral palsy and was charged 18 pounds by Ryanair for the use of a wheelchair
through the concourse of Stansted Airport. Other airlines absorb this cost but Ryanair have been
making disabled people pay extra (BBC).
This example successfully shows how the company does not take care of all its customers in the way
it should be done, therefore this case was brought to court since it was found unacceptable the fact that
a disabled person had to pay for the transportation through the airport, which normally it is a cost that
is absorbed by the company. Unfortunately this is not their only case, in fact it has happened that
Ryanair had to unload from the

Understand The Importance Of Safeguarding
Safeguarding children is paramount to promoting the welfare of children and protect them from harm,
everyone who comes into contact with children and families has a role to play, protecting children
from maltreatment; Preventing impairment of children s health or development; ensuring that children
grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care; and taking action to
enable all children to have the best outcomes.
Eventually, effective safeguarding of the children can only be achieved through putting children at the
centre of the system, and playing their full part i.e. every individual and agency playing their full part,

Reflection Paper On Fitness
Welcome to Fitness In my life so far, there have been very few instances where I honestly thought
about giving up. I like to believe I am a very strong willed and sometimes stubborn person. I also
believe everyone has moments where they reach their limit and must decide whether or not to raise the
bar. My first day of track practice was one of those moments. I don t believe I fully understood what I
was getting myself into that day. I walked through the gym door nervous and filled with a mixture of
anxiety and excitement. The first thing I noticed was how many people there were. The entire gym
had people circling the perimeter. I mean it was insane. It felt like everyone I had ever known to be in
sports was there. People I had never even said a word to had managed find to their way to the gym. I
was out of my league and out of my mind. I couldn t do this. I m going to make a fool of myself.
Everyone here is conditioned for this and they ve done this before. They know what is going to
happen. I was standing there, looking around like an idiot. The first person I recognize and actually
talk to is Franky. I attempt to casually sneak my way over to him. I feel like a fish out of water. I
decide that if I ever get confused as to what to do I must have a plan. Ask Franky. That was the best I
could come up with. The warm ups and stretching weren t so bad. I was left out of breath from the
quicker ones, but I felt I would recover in time for the real workout. When coach shouted

Essay on The Tipping Point
The Tipping Point What can one consider being a tipping point in a situation. Is it when a situation
changes from bad to worse? Could it be when it changes from good to better? Or could it be from
when it changes from a bad situation and all of a sudden it turns around and becomes good? In my

G. King, Lynne M. Anderson, and Christine M. Pearson. From subject of: hush puppies, teen suicide,

Symbolism In In The Time Of The Butterflies By Julia Alvarez
Rafael Trujillo s dictatorship lasted for nearly 30 years. His reign brought destruction and death to
many people living in the Dominican Republic as well as its neighbor Haiti. In the Time of the
Butterflies by Julia Alvarez depicts the story of the mirabal sisters who were living during the time of
Trujillo s regime. The Mirabal sisters were women who tried to fight against Trujillo s evil ways and
ended up being murdered because of his thirst for power. Trujillo s reign began in the 1930 s and
ended in the early 1960 s. The story s setting takes place in the Dominican Republic during the 1950 s
and follows the transition of the Mirabal sisters from young girls to powerful females. Symbolism is
found in every chapter of the novel Alvarez ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the very beginning of the novel Alvarez simply uses the blowing of wind to symbolise something
more than just wind. Alvarez writes a chill goes through her the future is now beginning ... she doesn t
want to be the only one left to tell their story in this scene the wind blowing gives Dede a chill about
her future (10). This foreshadows her future which is that she will be the only member of her family
that survives the untimely death of her sisters. However, at times the descriptions of rain are very
profound in Alvarez s novel. Right after this description of Dede being afraid to be the only one left to
tell their story it begins to rain. Now as ig drops of rain had started though the night is as clear as the
sound of a bell this scene foreshadows Dede s future of being the sole survivor to become true as time
passed on (10). The rain symbolises a mysterious and frightening scenario which for Dede is being the
only one who will live to tell their story. Furthermore, Alvarez describes a scenario which involves
whether to symbolize PAtria s coming of age. Patria describes how she could see outside the window
the brilliant red flames lit in every tree and beyond some threatening thunderclouds (47). This quote is
a strong symbol of Patria becoming a woman and being faced with the decision of being a parent one
day or joining the church and becoming a nun. Earlier in the scene

The Fall
You re going to love it here Lilly, my dad said excited and hopeful.
Dad we re just staying here for a week, I told my dad, it s not like we re moving here.
Well I grew up in Alaska and I want you to experience living here for at least a little while, he said,

I understand, he just wanted for me to see where he grew up. And he was right, it is supposed to be
beautiful there and it would be nice to get away from everything and be surrounded by nature.
Now boarding flight 2204, now boarding flight 2204, an overhead voice said.

vision blurred.
My dad hastily unbuckled my seatbelt bringing me to full focuss. I started to open the door as fast as I

People were crowding behind us trying to get out, some shoving each other to try to get closer to

As soon as I got the door open though, freezing cold water came rushing in, hitting me like cold, hard

hypothermia. My dad grabbed me and the airline lady and pushed us out the door.
Whatever you do don t let your head go under the water and try to control your breathing! my dad

Alienation And Anomie Essay
Both concepts of alienation and anomie signify how individualism has impacted the social structures
through industrialization and the division of labour. Both Marx and Durkheim s theories emphasize
the relationships between people in society and how this impacts on separateness and individualism
within it; however, both theories are different. Where Marx is concerned he focuses on being alienated
as a result of materialized matter through the bourgeoisie alienating oneself from culture, for
Durkheim anomie is due to the lack of a collective conscience within society preventing both
regulation and integration of culture; for Durkheim this negatively impacts on social solidarity and
cohesion. Alienation occurred after the periods of slavery and serfdom arose a capitalist society,
workers selling their labour skills in order to earn a living wage. In comparison to feudal societies
where wealth was inherited, capitalist societies through the bourgeoisie was about owning the means
of production enabling them to own private property and this being wealth. However, the cost price of
the goods produced was significantly higher than the labourer s wages resulting in a profit for the
bourgeoisie, this being the method of attaining wealth. The capitalist mode of production generates its
wealth through exploitation of the proletariat. Karl Marx (1970) stated ...the accumulation of wealth at
one pole of society involves a simultaneous accumulation of poverty, labour torment, slavery,

white audiences, and almost always portray the usual stereotypes that people expect from black men.
Alexander goes on to suggest that society should embrace them instead of stigmatizing them. I have to

Junot Díaz published his first novel and second book The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao in 2006,
forty five years after the 1930 1961 rule of Trujillo over the Dominican Republic collapsed. That s the
central theme of the novel: dictatorship. It concerns not only political, man over man, Trujillo brutal

Marxist Feminism Efforts to Eradicate Sexist Capitalism
Marxist Feminism Efforts to Eradicate sexist Capitalism:
The emergence of Stay at Home Dads and The Providing Woman
Introduction:
Marxist feminism is a sub category of the larger feminist theory; this kind of feminism is primarily
attentive to explaining how women are oppressed through capitalist systems and the emergence of the
concept of private property. According to Marxist feminists, women s true emancipation, all over the
world, can only be achieved through a fundamental reorganization of the capitalist economy that does
not fairly compensate women s labor. Additionally, Marxist feminists do criticize Marx for what they
think was his partial analysis of sexism under capitalism and total indifference to gender imbalance.
However, they do not dismiss the basic Marxist fundamentals.
Theoretical and Historical Backgrounds:
In its early days, the Women s Liberation Movement, four main currents of feminism were identified :
Liberal feminism, which is mainly concerned with solving all social problems to fight ignorance and
social restraints on freedom of choice for everyone, not just woman.
Radical feminism which focuses on male patriarchy as the main cause of the oppression of women.
Socialist feminism which believes in a dual system, indeed it focuses on both the public and private
spheres and claims that woman freedom can only be achieved by working to end economic and
cultural foundations of women s domination.
Marxist feminism, on the other hand is a

other important areas of functioning. According to the narrative, Barbie describes how she is
beginning to experience difficulty focusing on her job and her WHODAS scores (which will be later
discussed) significantly support this specific criteria. Criteria H does not pertain to Barbie due to her
not having a history with another medical condition. The last criteria for Agoraphobia is finally met
because Barbie s symptoms is not better explained using another mental disorder. As stated above, the
client currently meets a separate criteria for an additional diagnosis of Panic Disorder and the
following criteria A D is discussed. Criteria A describes how the individual must first exhibit
unexpected panic attacks that reaches peak within a few minutes and during which time the client
must experience four or more symptoms. Barbie currently has a history of more than five unexpected

The simplest way to put is Frequency means how fast is the signal is changing. In this graph what we
have used is a small sample of an audio recording of my voice. Sound waves can be examined in
relationships of their amplitude and frequency. In the frequency analysis graph the recoding is then
plotting a graph of frequency (x axis, in Hz) versus intensity (y axis, in dB). Thus allowing us to be
able to analyze the recording signals with respect to frequency. As in which the other graph allows us
to measure the voice recording in respect with time. So in the frequency analysis graph we can see the
the higher the dB s are the higher the pitch is within that portion of the audio compared to another
fragment of the recording where the dBs are lower. The frequency of a audio wave affects the pitch of
the sound we hear. In the first graph we are able to see the length and how much time/space the
sinusoidal signals recoding takes by the amplitude and the

compounds that have a discrete water molecules that are part of the compounds crystalline structure.
Anhydrous compounds have crystalline structures containing no water. In this experiment, copper (II)
sulfate pentahydrate was heated and loss mass, while the anhydrous calcium gained mass. When
heated, hydrates break bond with water and the water is released into the atmosphere. Once the water

After the copper (II) sulfate pentahydrate was heated the hydrate loss 35.16% of water. The hydrate
should have loss 36.08% of water after it was heated. The anhydrous calcium chloride became
hydrated after it gained .64% of water. As a result of the loss of 35.16% of water from the copper
sulfate pentahydrate, the anhydrous calcium chloride should have gained a higher percent of water
from the atmosphere than .64%. Evaluation: The percent error in the experiment was 2.61%. The
percent is low because most of the water in the crystals had been driven off. A lower percent error
could have occurred if the CuSO4 * 5H2O was heated more. Suggested Improvements: When the lab
experiment was conducted, the copper sulfate pentahydrate was placed inside the casserole. If the
casserole was heated before the hydrate was place in it, then the water that might have been in the
casserole prior to the sample being added would not be included in the hydrate. Since the casserole
was not heated, the result may have been of a higher mass of water being loss. Another improvement
that could be made to this experiment, could be increasing the sample size to an average

Homosexuality is one of the most debated issues among Christians today, regardless of the

By June of 1992 the General Board of the American Baptist Church was being pressured by some of
their member churches to accept the practice of homosexuality within their denomination. A resolution

One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest
Have you ever been to a mental institution? The novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest is about
Randall McMurphy becoming a patient in a mental institution. McMurphy is a white trash degenerate
with many problems, but mental instability is not one of them. He is an alcoholic with a gambling
problem that gets into fights. He was recently convicted of alleged rape. McMurphy, somehow,
conned his way into being enrolled into the mental institution instead of going to a work farm for his
actions, the court ruled that I m a psychopath... they tell me a psychopath s a guy fights too much and
fucks too much (13). In the novel, One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest, Randall McMurphy s character
and the acute community change as they both interact with each other. The mental institute s patients
are divided into two group, acutes and chronics. The chronics are described as people that have no
chance of recovery from their state of mind, and will be in the institution forever. Chronics are in for
good, the staff concedes. Chronics are divided into Walkers, Wheelers, and Vegetables (16). The
acutes are described as people that have a chance of being cured and released from the institute. These
patients are somewhat functional people with slight mental instabilities, the doctors still figure them

it affects jobs of musicians. The MU believe that audiences should be informed on whether recorded
music will be substituted for live music in a show, before they buy the tickets. This allows people to
make the decision to support live music, and the musicians who play it. The campaign was also key in
raising awareness of how important these performances and jobs are to the livelihood of musicians

Are Colleges Worth The Cost Of College
Attending college after high school is a choice everybody has to make. However, colleges can be very
expensive to attend. The decision to go to college hangs mostly on one question: Is college worth the
cost? Many people evaluate the cost of college by equating it to things such as family tradition and
whether or not they need it for their career. To some people, college is a stumbling block, but to
others, it is the key to their future. To begin, college has many benefits, despite the cost. College
teaches students more than book smarts, but also teaches life skills. Liberal Arts graduates can be seen
prominently in leadership positions in areas such as politics and culture (Source B). In this aspect,

Fear Sometimes Goes Away Over Time Analysis
Fear sometimes goes away over time, like when you were little you were afraid of monsters under
your bed. Sometimes they stay with you for a lifetime. One thing is certain; fear is almost inevitable.
One of my biggest fears is drowning. When I go swimming I have to be able to touch something or
else I get panic attacks. This fear started when I was about seven. My friend and I decided to take the
swimming test so we could jump off the diving board. We wanted to be just like our friends who had
taken the test. We were told to go in the five foot part and swim two laps across. We both started out
doing well, but about halfway across I started drowning. My friend also started drowning and gasping.
The lifeguards blew their whistle and jumped in to get us. I was shaken ... Show more content on

My friend was taken to the hospital, where I later went and visited, she turned out fine as well. This
experience made me deathly afraid of water and I always have to be able to see and touch the bottom.
I don t think I ll ever be able to get over this fear. Another fear I have is having an intruder break into
my house. Every time I am home alone, I lock the door and I am constantly calling people to see when
they are coming home. This fear stems from the time my mom and stepdad went out to get groceries
and left my brothers and me at home. It was about 9:30 p.m. and it was dark outside. My brothers and
I were in the kitchen when we heard something upstairs and as we turned to look up at them we saw
someone wearing all black run past the stairs. We instantly ran back into my parent s room and
blocked the door with everything we could find. My youngest

The Rocking Horse Research Paper
My favorite toy when I was littler than I am now was a brown and white rocking horse. I wasn t born
to see it be given as a gift but for my baby shower my great grandparents had giving my parents a
rocking horse for me. I would be on the horse constantly I couldn t run around because it was just a
rocking horse so I would sit on it next to the tv and watch my shows. This love for horses connected
with cowboys so I began to wear cowboy boots everyday I d wear them to school, when we would go
shopping and even just around the house I would wear them.
My siblings and I would go over to my great grandparents house on weekdays, I would always bring
the rocking horse there. My grandpa was a oakie so we would always watch his black and white
cowboy shows, while watching these shows I would be on the horse rocking back and forward.
During these cowboy shenanigans our favorite snack to eat was my great grandma s homemade
cornbread with a glass of milk, the cornbread would smell sweet and feel warm. In the backyard of the
house was my great grandpa s shed, when he would weld or do who knows what, I d be right by him
on my rocking horse. As all these days passed the fun on my rocking horse was beginning to come to
an end and I was getting bigger, being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

grandparents house and gave my grandpa the biggest hug ever and told him thankyou a million times.

Sturdivant Hall had been constructed in 1852. This stately mansion had six tall white pillars in the front. There were many parlors downstairs and an abundance of spacious bedrooms upstairs. There were large fig trees, shrubs, and scuppernong vines on either side of the home. A group of visitors had gathered to take a to tour of this beautiful mansion; then, the guide revealed something quite remarkable. Then, with a suddenness that shocked the entire community, John Parker s career ended in disgrace. The youthful bank president speculated in cotton and invested the bank s money, only to lose it all, when the price of cotton dropped, and he could not cover the losses. Because federal money was deposited in The First National Bank, General Swayne, a commanding officer of the United States troops in the Selma district moved in quickly, closed the bank and had Parkman arrested. (Windham and Figh, 81) Parkman was taken under guard to Cahaba and confined in Castle Morgan, the prison which had only a short time before been used by the Confederate government for the incarceration of Yankee prisoners. He managed to escape from that prison; however, as he was climbing a prison wall, an alarm sounded, and some shots were fired . There were several stories surrounding Parkman s fate. Some people speculated that he dived into the nearby river and drowned. Other people claimed his body was buried under one of the huge trees at the rear of Sturdivant Hall. Although his death remained a mystery, students of the supernatural say that Parkman s ghost had came back to try to clear his name about three years later, after the home had been sold. In chapters five through nine of Change of State: Information, Policy, and Power by Sandra Braman, the information policy principles found in the United States Constitution are assessed and the influence that they have on the identity, structure, borders, and progression (of the state and on the individuals, communities, and organizations that make it up) are discussed. Braman presents current law, trends and penalties of several information policy issues for each category it affects. In this part of the book Braman defines how information policy affects identity and the structure of society. Furthermore an in depth analysis of how new borders is defined and then furthers the creation of new laws is presented. This book is attempting to prove that the power of the informational state is threatened by the increase of technology. Chapters five and six explain the separation of the informational, social and technological systems of the state. Modern society is changing due to the increasingly dependent social and information systems. These chapters examine the legal issues that arise in the informational state, spanning from intellectual property rights to the ideas of the information commons. Braman believes that, both communal and individual identity are constructed via flows of communication, introduction of any new information or communication technology influences the ways in which we relate to each other and form into groups (p. 165). • 6. Thomas Hobbes And The Leviathan And Nicomachean Ethics Thomas Hobbes and Aristotle address the role that governments have in the promotion of good virtue amongst their citizens in The Leviathan and Nicomachean Ethics. The authors offer ideas along similar lines. This is in regards to the belief that Hobbes and Aristotle hold, which is that governments do have a role in promoting good morals and leading a virtuous life; Hobbes by sovereignty and Aristotle through means of reaching telos. Thomas Hobbes position is made in The Leviathan, in which he argues that citizens are less troubled when they agree to a commonwealth, or a unity of them all because they are unified in that they constitute one single person (Hobbes 79). When men agree to be governed by a sovereign, he is then responsible for encouraging them to lead virtuous lives by practicing good morals. They could not be led astray because the sovereign is such a supreme example, this is why they are given the freedom of choice. He would also argue against neutrality on behalf of the government, because he does not believe that human nature always serves as the best guide for humans. Aristotle s Nicomachean Ethics is similar to Hobbes work, in that he also agrees that government should promote good morals. However, it differs as Aristotle thinks that the main responsibility of a government is to see to it that their citizens are capable of reaching their telos. Telos is something that can only be accomplished by a virtuous and free being, it is essentially a state of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Low trust can paralyze the business because conflict situations are addressed with ridicule, anger, or silence and results in fear of conflict, and lack of commitment. In the same company the MD promised staff things but would never carry them out, this made staff frustrated and they did not trust anything he said and this generated a very poor work environment. Under performance can create more conflict, have a major effective on the business strategy, productivity, morale of other team members. Resulting in failure to pass on information or act on information received, withdrawal or non communicative behaviour, aggressiveness towards others, lengthy absences from the work area, excessive or unexplained absenteeism, unusually delayed completion of work. In my experience under performance is generally down to poor management or the style of the manager. Covert sabotage is deliberate damage to work processes and of management s efforts and usually occurs when employees are angry at their employer but it can be directed at fellow employee especially when conflict exists. A good example of this was when I was an apprentice on of my colleagues had the lock of his tool cabinet filled with glue which meant he could not unlock it and get his tools out to start work. It later came to light that this was done by one of his colleagues because he was always getting the best jobs and he was the foreman s favourite. • 11. The Frontiers of American History in Last Child of the... In the second chapter of Last Child of the Woods, Richard Louv makes the claim that there have been three frontiers in the course of American history. The first phase was the original frontier, before the Industrial Revolution. This was the time of the prairie schooner, the cowboy, the herds of bison that were thousands strong. This was a rough, hard time, when man and nature were constantly thrown together. There was wilderness to spare, and people were willing to move West to get to it. The second phase came into being after the Industrial Revolution. Land that was available to homesteaders had run out. Yet the American people still considered themselves frontier explorers. Times had been trying during the Westward Expansion, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not only are they taught that building things outside are bad, but because of the disappearance of natural spaces within cities, nature is not as accessible to kids. This leads to what Louv calls, Nature Deficit Disorder, the lack of relationship between children and nature. Richard Louv uses Logos in several different ways throughout this selection. He collects research from many different studies, interviews parents, and finds sources from history. In his second chapter especially, he uses numerous examples of scientific experiments to back his point that people really do not have an adequate realization of the difference between humans and animals. In his third chapter, he conducted an interview with a parent who had moved to a certain neighborhood because of the abundance of outdoor areas. Louv uses this interview to illustrate his point that even if nature is available, it really is not supposed to be used for unstructured recreation. In his second chapter, he draws on U.S. Census Bureau reports to illustrate the decline of the family farm. He uses historical events and ideas to show his idea of the romanticizing of the American frontier. Through these concrete examples, he is able to persuade the reader that his ideas and theories are valid. I think that Louv is right in his opinion that kids are losing touch with nature. My first day of track practice was one of those moments. I don t believe I fully understood what I was getting myself into that day. They know what is going to happen. I was standing there, looking around like an idiot. The first person I recognize and actually talk to is Franky. I attempt to casually sneak my way over to him. I feel like a fish out of water. I decide that if I ever get confused as to what to do I must have a plan. Ask Franky. That was the best I could come up with. • 24. Alienation And Anomie Essay Both concepts of alienation and anomie signify how individualism has impacted the social structures through industrialization and the division of labour. Both Marx and Durkheim s theories emphasize the relationships between people in society and how this impacts on separateness and individualism within it; however, both theories are different. Where Marx is concerned he focuses on being alienated as a result of materialized matter through the bourgeoisie alienating oneself from culture, for Durkheim anomie is due to the lack of a collective conscience within society preventing both regulation and integration of culture; for Durkheim this negatively impacts on social solidarity and cohesion. Alienation occurred after the periods of slavery and serfdom arose a capitalist society, workers selling their labour skills in order to earn a living wage. In comparison to feudal societies where wealth was inherited, capitalist societies through the bourgeoisie was about owning the means of production enabling them to own private property and this being wealth. However, the cost price of the goods produced was significantly higher than the labourer s wages resulting in a profit for the bourgeoisie, this being the method of attaining wealth. For example, an offender released into probation would be ineligible for welfare benefits, food stamps, public housing among other federal assistance programs. Additionally, as a citizen he might lose his right to vote. Alexander recounts the struggle of a young man with a felony conviction, he had nowhere to go, so he asked for Section 8 assistance. What is her argument in The Minstrel Show and The Antidote ? Do you agree or disagree, and why? Many families have to lie about the whereabouts of their imprisoned loved ones in order to avoid the shame and stigma, additionally, many ex offenders refuse to check the criminal charges box in employment applications because they are aware that if they do check the box, people will not consider them past the stereo types. Perhaps one of the saddest coping strategies is the embracement of their stigma, in which young people end up accepting what the public believes they are. Alexander also argues that today s programs depicting gangsta rap or any gangsta related exploitation are not far from the old minstrel shows from the Jim Crow era. Alexander explains that these programs cater to white audiences, and almost always portray the usual stereotypes that people expect from black men. Alexander goes on to suggest that society should embrace them instead of stigmatizing them. I have to agree with her statements; nevertheless, as long as media continues to expose such inaccurate depictions of black men, change cannot occur. Political and Emotional Dictatorship within Junot Diaz s Brief and Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao Works Cited Missing Junot Díaz published his first novel and second book The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao in 2006, forty five years after the 1930 1961 rule of Trujillo over the Dominican Republic collapsed. Marxist Feminism Efforts to Eradicate Sexist Capitalism Marxist Feminism Efforts to Eradicate sexist Capitalism: The emergence of Stay at Home Dads and The Providing Woman Introduction: Marxist feminism is a sub category of the larger feminist theory; this kind of feminism is primarily attentive to explaining how women are oppressed through capitalist systems and the emergence of the concept of private property. According to Marxist feminists, women s true emancipation, all over the world, can only be achieved through a fundamental reorganization of the capitalist economy that does not fairly compensate women s labor. Additionally, Marxist feminists do criticize Marx for what they think was his partial analysis of sexism under capitalism and total indifference to gender imbalance. However, they do not dismiss the basic Marxist fundamentals. Theoretical and Historical Backgrounds: In its early days, the Women s Liberation Movement, four main currents of feminism were identified : Liberal feminism, which is mainly concerned with solving all social problems to fight ignorance and social restraints on freedom of choice for everyone, not just woman. Radical feminism which focuses on male patriarchy as the main cause of the oppression of women. Socialist feminism which believes in a dual system, indeed it focuses on both the public and private spheres and claims that woman freedom can only be achieved by working to end economic and cultural foundations of women s domination. As we analyze the graphs we will see how this information could be used to plan a transmission facility, and why we must be careful to avoid clipping. Furthermore we will dig deeper and ask the question if, 300 4,000 Hz bandwidth, would sufficient enough for a telephone system, and then finally end this paper with an explanation why do we want 20 to 20,000 Hz bandwidth in music systems today. The simplest way to put is Frequency means how fast is the signal is changing. In this graph what we have used is a small sample of an audio recording of my voice. Sound waves can be examined in relationships of their amplitude and frequency. In the frequency analysis graph the recoding is then plotting a graph of frequency (x axis, in Hz) versus intensity (y axis, in dB). Thus allowing us to be able to analyze the recording signals with respect to frequency. As in which the other graph allows us to measure the voice recording in respect with time. So in the frequency analysis graph we can see the the higher the dB s are the higher the pitch is within that portion of the audio compared to another fragment of the recording where the dBs are lower. In this experiment, copper (II) sulfate pentahydrate was heated and loss mass, while the anhydrous calcium gained mass. The anhydrous calcium chloride became hydrated after it gained .64% of water. As a result of the loss of 35.16% of water from the copper sulfate pentahydrate, the anhydrous calcium chloride should have gained a higher percent of water from the atmosphere than .64%. Evaluation: The percent error in the experiment was 2.61%. The percent is low because most of the water in the crystals had been driven off. A lower percent error could have occurred if the CuSO4 * 5H2O was heated more. Suggested Improvements: When the lab experiment was conducted, the copper sulfate pentahydrate was placed inside the casserole. If the casserole was heated before the hydrate was place in it, then the water that might have been in the casserole prior to the sample being added would not be included in the hydrate. Since the casserole was not heated, the result may have been of a higher mass of water being loss. Another improvement that could be made to this experiment, could be increasing the sample size to an average ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
