Essay On Oil Spills
7 years ago, one of the largest oil spills in history occurred at the Deepwater Horizon oil rig. To this day, the damage is still being cleaned up,
and will never be the same as it was before. The wellhead at the ocean floor is emptying oil contents at an incredibly high rate, causing the
sea to be flooded with the harmful, unnatural substance. It is not until recently that scientists have found a way to help minimize the drastic
consequences, yet they still didn t even have time to experiment their supposedly helpful chemical. Their plan is to dump another unnatural
chemical into the water to help disperse the oil. With the oil droplets becoming comparably smaller, the slippery substance is less apparent in
the water and seems to have a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With this much of a substance being pumped into an ecosystem that doesn t compensate for its presence, marine life has a definite chance of
being drastically depleted even more. Unfortunately, it also contaminates the air and the food chain it travels up until it can even reach us.
The oil has already contaminated the shores of many US beaches, and it d only be a matter of time until our oceans would be too polluted to
swim in. What would this say about the aquatic organisms or the animals we consume from the ocean? Not to mention all the people who
would be affected by this. No one wants to swim in dirty water and we do not want the next generation to have to either. It is our
responsibility to keep the Earth clean. The other side to dumping the chemical to disperse the oil spill, is that there was not enough research
conducted to do so.It could be argued that the decision to dump more of an unknown chemical into the water was rash, and could ve had
dangerous consequences. There is still no clear answer if the chemical is harmful to the biotic life, or any of the ecosystem at all. It may only
cause more issues that we have to deal with later on. While one problem is solved, another is created. This is what s wrong with human
society. We are ruining our planet, but the only way we know how to fix anything is not flawless in its own

Drinking At 18 Essay
Drinking at 18
If you look around at college parties it seems as if everyone is drinking. Actually you are probably right, but over half of those people
drinking are also under the legal drinking age. Drinking is one of the main forms of entertainment for the typical college student. The only
problem with drinking being the main form of entertainment is that half of the students in college or 20 years or younger. This seems to be a
problem all over the country and a debate has started to see whether or not lowering the drinking age would be a reasonable solution to keep
students from over drinking.
Many leaders at different universities such as Bill Jordan, a member of the Board of Trustees at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many other reasons as to why lowering the legal drinking age is being considered other then that students between the age of 18
and 20 on college campuses want the privilege to drink. More serious cases such as that of Mr. Cureton, an 18 year old freshman at the
University of North Carolina whom was arrested for driving with a blood alcohol level of 0.14. Mr. Cureton was almost double the legal
limit, 0.08 percent, serving as a major hazard to other drivers on the road at the same time (Wald). If students are afraid of calling home for a
ride they may try to drive themselves, resulting in more damage then they may realize at the time. But if the drinking age was lowered then
they student would not get into legal trouble for calling a parent or another adult for a ride home.
Fraternities seem to be having the most problems with the legal drinking age being at 21 as the Theta Chi chapter at the University of
Georgia demonstrated last year. Henry Delauney, 19, of Lafayette, La., went into intensive care to be treated for excessive alcohol
consumption. Also a pledges from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Louisiana State University died after nights of binge
drinking. Scott Kruegen, 18, of Orchard Park, N.Y., died three days after he was discovered in his basement room at the phi Gamma Delta
house at MIT. Benjamin Smith, 20, of Covington, La.,

Buddhist Rite Of Passage
To become a Buddhist monk which is known as a Bhikkhu, there is a long process of disciplinary training and education ceremony s. The
Bhikkhu is the main buddhist rite of passage because it involves immersing yourself into the buddhist lifestyle, and becoming totally devoted
to the buddhist ways. To become a Bhikkhu, you must follow the Tripitaka, which is described in the chapter below. You must devote your
life to buddhism, and observe the 227 ways of immersing yourself into the buddhist culture. In most Buddhist countries, marriages are
arranged by the parents of the couple. This is because parents are thought to know best since they have had more experience of life. It is also
because marriages join families, and so the decision should

The Similarities Between Plato s Atlantis And Thera-Santorini
The Links between Plato s Atlantis and Thera/ Santorini The most popular theory to date is that Atlantis was once located in Thera/ Santorini.
Thera remains quite popular among Vulcanologists, archaeologist, historians and Geologists as the Thera did encounter a natural disaster
before Plato s time. This natural disaster was extremely catastrophic, it had caused the island of Thera to be uninhabitable for a number years.
Reports about Theran culture suggest that they were an intelligent and somewhat advanced culture; also their religion seemed to resemble
Plato s Atlantean culture. Though unlike the various theories about Atlantis the Theran theory continues to provide evidence that attempts to
prove Atlantis existed.

Jewish Culture Influence On American Culture
The food of the United States reflects the country s history through its strong cultural influences. The colonization of the United States
caused the introduction of many meals and cooking styles to the regions in America (Hanson). These styles have continued to expand into the
19th and 20th centuries because of the continuous amounts of immigrants that have come to the United States from various countries.
American cuisine has always been changing, absorbing all of the new influences from other cultures as all of the new immigrants arrived,
married and fused their traditions (Carter). There is a wide variety of foods available in the United States that is influenced by the English,
Native American, Dutch, Italian, German, Asian, and Irish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This region seems to have one of the most diverse cuisines because it is influenced by a number of different cultures. All of the different
influenced has shaped the cuisine in the south to form what we call it today, Southern cooking ( US Food (Cuisine). ). American Indians that
were native to this area, the Navajo, taught European settlers to grow and cook corn, a grain unknown in Europe at the time (Damica).
Spanish explorers brought pigs with them as they explored the territory, and this brought pork to the region. Beginning in the 1600s the
Africans carried their traditional foods with them, such as watermelon, eggplant, and okra, when they were brought to the United States
during the time of the transatlantic slave trade (Sambira). One of the most popular dishes that the African Americans brought over, other than
those listed before, is rice pudding (Pinchin). In New Orleans, which is part of the deep south, there is many other dishes that have originated
from Africa, like gumbo (Sambira). French and Haitian immigrants, known as Creoles, introduced the use of spices (Tilove). The Creoles
later had mixed with Spanish settlers in the Louisiana area and created what would be called Cajun cooking (Tilove). In general in the south,
catfish is very popular, especially fried. In the Texas area since it is

Symptoms And Treatment Of An Idiopathic Etiology
As previously reported, Ms. Noid referred herself for a voice evaluation because of a chronic, persistent dysphonia characterized by severe
hoarseness and breathiness. She had a recent ENT report indicating a left adductor vocal cord paralysis which is paralyzed in the intermediate
position. Furthermore, she has reported that her symptoms have persisted for 18 months, eliminating the possibility of an idiopathic etiology.
After completing a voice evaluation, recommendations for medical clearance would include evaluations performed by a laryngologist,
neurologist, and/or evaluations performed by professionals who would be part of the client s medical team. The recommendation for
treatment options would be begin by educating the client, and providing her with behavioral and medical treatment options. Furthermore, Ms.
Noid would be informed with the benefits and potential side effects of the various treatments. Since Ms. Noid, presents with a left adductor
vocal fold paralysis in the intermediate position (situated midway between abduction and paramedian position), behavioral interventions
could be applied before considering surgical treatments. With vocal fold paralysis, Ms. Noid may have developed compensatory
mechanisms, which can be eliminated through education and proper compensatory techniques. Behavioral treatments that can be
implemented include: Pushing Techniques, Vocal Function Exercises, Resonant Voice Therapy, or Lee Silverman Voice Therapy (LSVT).

Summary Of Outliers By Malcolm Gladwell
Cultural Legacies Final Paper In chapter seven and chapter eight of Outliers, Malcolm Gladwell effectively claims that acknowledging
cultural legacies betters the chance of success. In chapter seven of Outliers, Malcolm Gladwell entices readers on the topic of plane crashes
in the aviation world, while commendably and credibly synthesizing the controversy around the question of how and why plane crashes
occur. When illustrating the terrible crash of Korean Airlines Flight 801 in 1997, Gladwell intricately describes the language, words, actions,
and psychology of the pilots and crew members associated with the plane crash to better the authenticity of his claim. Combining these ideas,
Gladwell forms a theory that arguably proves to be true ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While I was there, I saw firsthand the importance of cultural legacy and the effect it had on the communication between groups of different
cultural legacies: Haitian and American. Having the cultural legacy of a native American (not referring to ethnicity), I wore a bracelet on my
ankle. In Haiti, the primary cultural legacy of Haitians assumes that anklet bracelets is a symbol for prostitution. Not only does Haiti s
cultural legacy induce the tradition of this assumption, it also induces the assumption that prostitution is an act of Satan. Further into the
story, I walked past a young orphan girl living at the orphanage I was staying at. As I walked past her, she stopped me in my tracts and yelled
at me, Satan! . The communication barrier between me and the young girl, resulted in miscommunication. This is another example of how
interaction between different cultural legacies results in a communication barrier. These examples of cultural legacy, are only but a few
examples from my trip to Haiti. Because I experienced the interaction between myself and people of different cultural legacies, I agree with
Gladwell s theory that cultural legacies are important and effective in acquiring

Agricultural Revolution Vs Open Field System
Pranav Muthuraman Period 1 Crites Chapter 17 AP Euro Questions The agricultural revolution included several inventions and ideas like
enclosures, crop rotations, and various tools made to make farming more efficient in England and Netherlands but spread to the rest of
Europe as well after the success of these inventions led to more food and less disease. First, an enclosure is a private plot of land owned by
the landlord who hires landless workers to tend to the crops and animals on the land. This system is considered an improvement compared to
the open field system because it allows the idea of crop rotation to take place. Crop rotations was the planting of different crops over

The slave trade impacted africa because that was the major source of slaves used in the Americas and throughout Europe. African people
were abducted or sold by their chiefs to the Europeans to become a slave for the rest of their lives. The slaves were brought from Africa for
very high prices and taken to Europe where they were sold for even higher and then taken to the Americas to work in plantations, farms, and
houses. The trade impacted the Americas because that s where many of the new slaves were being sold to in order to work on the new farms
and plantations there. The slaves were the reason that colonists were able to make profits in the colonies. The use of slaves was abolished in
1807 due to the decrease of the need for slaves in foreign countries and the increase in the belief that the use of slaves was

Contamination In Non-Template Control Case Study
Contamination in non template control (NTC) negative control
Presently, species specific primers are widely used for the detection of target species. However, the liability of designed primers can be
severely affected by the contamination present during the sampling or in the laboratory (Malmstrom et al, 2005; Johnson 2017). Including
negative controls or non template controls (NTC) during the assay can validate the efficiency of designed primers by indicating the presence
of contamination and possibly the source of contamination, although a clear confirmation is not possible due to a chance that in the particular
reaction primers did not amplify a present target (Lorenz, 2012).

Optimization of reaction to reduce formation of primer dimers. Technical note no.LC1/99.).
The presence of multiple bands in same well or so called primer ladders is primarily a product of non specific amplification or
contamination, and are a result of the multimerization of the primers, where primers bind to each other and form longer molecule resulting as
a high band in gel electrophoresis (https://www.scientistsolutions.com/forum/dna pcr real time pcr standard polymerase chain reaction
pcr/ladder effect seen my pcr images; https://www.scientistsolutions.com/forum/dna pcr real time pcr standard polymerase chain reaction

resulting in two bands from the same sample migrating differently in gel electrophoresis
(https://www.researchgate.net/post/what_is_the_meaning_of_having_2_bands_in_gel_electrophoresis_of_a_DNA_sequence_amplified_by_PCR).
Several conditions are needed for primer dimerization (http://www.dnasoftware.com/myth 4 primer dimer artifacts are due to dimerization of
primers/):
a) Homodomers (dimers involving the same strands) are rarely present
b) Primers dimers occur frequently at a large threshold cycle number ( more than 35 cycles)
c) Primers dimers are observed when primers have low specificity due to an inadequate design or weak thermodynamics (annealing
temperature)
d) When the primer dimers are sequenced, there

Technological Influences on Early Science Fiction
Science fiction is filled with a wide variety of technologies. Sometimes the technology presented is merely a transposition of existing
technologies into the story. At other times, the author takes existing technologies and extrapolates potential novel technology with uncanny
accuracy. In both cases, existing technologies have an obvious impact upon the author. Written during the first generation of electronic
computers, Starman Jones (1953) and A Logic Named Joe (1946) provide excellent examples of both these cases. The first generation of
electronic computers was characterized by hulking monstrosities of tubes and wires, housed in metal. The first programmable electronic
computer was Colossus. Completed in 1943, Colossus contained ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The computer is unable to perform complex calculations, such as trigonometry, logarithms or decimal to binary conversion. The various
charts for these calculations are maintained in a multitude of volumes of tables and conversions. Data is entered into the computer via a
series of keys depressed to represent a binary value, like the Manchester Baby , and switches to commit the current value. Output is also in
binary form and must be interpreted from a series of lights, off or on, indicating the value, also like the Manchester Baby . The personnel
required to operate this computer seems to vary from three to seven, including astrogators (to plot the course through the stars), chartsmen (to
interpret the charted course into binary) and computermen (to input the binary into the computer). This resembles the team of six women
employed to program ENIAC. It is clear that Heinlein drew upon the computers of his time as a model for the ship s computer. Where
Heinlein merely transposes existing technologies, Murray Leinster uses it as a starting point for extrapolation. The future technology of the
logic in A Logic Named Joe is a very accurate depiction of modern personal computers. Leinster s logic was likely influenced by recent
developments in telecommunications, including the videophone and automatic telephone switching stations, as well as the increasingly

Argumentative Essay On Immigration Rights
Immigration rights and importance is one of the United States biggest issues. Many believe that legal immigrants are treated as normal
citizens. But they are not. Law enforcement breaks laws and are unconstitutional. Also, the government believes that immigrants take
resources and are a danger to society. But is all of this true. Do immigrants take or provide resources? Do immigrants get as equal treatment
as natural born citizens? I believe that immigrants provide more resources than they take. Also I believe that they do not get the same
treatment as natural born citizens. The common good of immigrants and immigration is that they give our economy a boost and immigrants
help work forces. Also, if the immigrant is legal shouldn t they have the same individual rights as a natural born citizen. This issue is
important because it is one of the biggest debates in the United States today.

Forrest Thomson Poetic Artifice Analysis
Two Co Option Co option is I argue most clearly defined by Veronica Forrest Thomson s Poetic Artifice. A text, that pushed back against
critics of the previous generation and endeavoured early on to integrate structuralist thought with post structuralist. This integration between
structuralism and post structuralism can be seen as an attempt to get at the importance of poetry. In an attempt to stress and illuminate poetry
s unique ability to be transformative of both language and the world. Forrest Thomson in Poetic Artifice demands an intense focus on all the
rhythmic, phonetic, verbal and logical devices which makes poetry different from prose to best consider this transformative nature. It is in
this distinguishing of poetry from prose, and the highly formalist manner and structuralist distrust of language s transparency in which she
follows that one can also see a similar differencing between the broader spectrum of literature with the sciences. There is no need in Forrest
Thomson s work for differing areas to be inclusive of one another, to the point of loss of individuality, because of a homogenizing of
methodology and epistemic reasoning. Throughout both Poetic Artifice and her thesis Poetry as Knowledge: The Use of Science by
Twentieth Century Poets, Forest Thomson can be seen to put forward a new structure, in which separation is crucial for any kind of
interrelation between the two fields of knowledge. She follows a similar stance as that of Kelly

The Ethics Of Nonprofit Management
The main problem in the case as it relates to nonprofit management is trying to make a nonprofit organization survive. Nonprofits are
different than businesses and have to focus on two bottom lines, surviving and fulfilling its mission. While Falender focused on surviving
and making the nonprofit one of the leading conservation nonprofits, he steered away from the original mission of the organization. Falender
s actions were based on financial motives rather than by social motives. AMC did need a transformational leader to help get out of the
financial crisis, however the values that were a part of the original mission did not have to be compromised. Falender treated the organization
more like a business rather than a nonprofit by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

set for fundraising. Even the Board Members are doubtful when it comes to fundraising. Falender also did not use the volunteers in a creative
manner that would ensure their time at AMC is being used to its full potential.
Falender s Management Style
Falender s management style did not correlate with the organization s mission and culture properly. The original mission of the organization
was more community and people oriented. On the first page, the case study reveals that the mission was essentially to bring people to realize

Importance Of Graphic Design
The career that I am researching is graphic design. A graphic designer helps to make an organization recognizable by using a variety of
mediums to communicate a particular idea or identity to be used in advertising and promotions. Some examples of things that graphic
designers create/do are; colours, fonts, animations, photography, print designs, logos, images, pictures, and billboards. They use a variety of
design elements to help an advertisement, brochure, magazine, or corporate report be artistically appealing and stand out. They also
collaborate closely with other graphic designers, writers, programmers, artists, or other creative people in order for their projects to be as
appealing as possible. Graphic design is important to society because it gives organizations and companies a face. It allows the consumer to
have feelings about a product just by looking at it. The importance of graphic design is only increasing because with the growing reach of
technology, it is extremely important for a company to be noticed. A typical day working as a graphic designer involves meetings, creating
your project, revising your project, and presentations. Graphic design is not a physically strenuous job and is a job that people of all body
types can do.
Many personal traits are required for a person to be a successful graphic designer. Some of these traits are; artistic skills, creativity, strong
verbal, visual, and written communication skills, ability to work independently and

Essay on Orgon s Incompetence in Tartuffe
Jean Baptiste Poquelin Moliere s Tartuffe is an epic play of hypocrisy, betrayal, and the tale of a foolish mind. Moliere s choice of
protagonist in this play happens to be the most blatantly ignorant character in the play. Orgon is naive to the villain Tartuffe s hypocritical
ways, makes a complete dunce of himself by uplifting Tartuffe as holy, and failing to pick up the abundance of clues of Tartuffe being fake.
Analyzing this character is rather interesting and at the same time frustrating to read of someone so ignorant that they fail to see the wolf
hiding under the sheep clothing. A fool is a fool unless they open their eyes to see the truth, and it took Orgon the majority of the play to
realize the truth.

Orgon decided that giving his daughter to Tartuffe would be the ultimate gift, and hearing this Elmire decided that it best to try to reason with
Tartuffe to make Orgon keep his promise to Valere with his daughters hand in marriage. Orgon s character is drawn as that of being naive and

Spider Man and Spider Woman
In comic books, certain archetypes exist; the strong man, the detective, the magician, the hero, the anti hero, and the villain just to name a
few. Each major comic book company has their own specific twists on them. Marvel Comics, in relation to its multiverse, has a specific
archetype of a spider totem. An individual imbued with the proportionate powers of a spider. Spiders within two universes have become quite
popular in the history of Marvel Comics, those being the Spider Man of Earth 616 and Spider Woman of Earth 65. Their characters each have
the same principles and beliefs, but each stemming from different experiences. Peter Parker of Earth 616 was an above average student at
Midtown High in Queens. On an average day, Peter Parker would be picked on and bullied. Until one day, he went alone to a science

Mt Adams Is The Second Largest Volcano
Introduction Simultaneously, Mt Adams is the second highest mountain and the most under looked volcano in Washington State. In terms of
volume, Mt. Adams is the second largest volcano (behind Mt. Shasta) in the Cascade Range (Alt Hyndman 1984). Since it has been relatively
quiet for the past couple millennia, it does not receive as much attention as it s counterparts and draws very few tourists due to it s remote
setting (Hill 2004). Prior to recent research, not much was known regarding Mt. Adam s eruptive history, frequency or how explosive
previous eruptions have been. (Hildreth Lanphere 1994). In this paper, I will discuss the geography, history, geology, and hazards of Mt.
Adams and it s surrounding area; focusing heavily on its geology and geologic hazards. 2 Figure 2: Mt. Adams from the east (USGS
2013). History In the early 1800 s, the Lewis and Clark Expedition noted seeing Mt. Adams, which they initially mistook as Mount St.
Helens. At this time, Mt. St. Helens had already been discovered and given its name. This was the first documented sighting of the
stratovolcano by European explorers (USGS 2013). Mt. Adams got its name in a moderately shameful way. In the mid 1800 s, there was a
plan to name the volcanoes in the Cascade Range after United States presidents. In honor of President John Adams, a mapmaker named Mt.
Adams by mistake, as the name was originally meant for what is now today Mt. Hood. To make matters worst, Mt. Adams was not originally

A Role of Ethics and Social Responsibilities in Management.
Ethics can be defined as a process of evaluating actions according to moral principal of values(A.Alhemoud). Throughout the centuries
people were trying to choose between profit and moral. Perhaps, some of them obtain both, but every time it could have roused ethical issues.
Those issues concern fairness, justice, rightness or wrongness; as a result it can only be resolved according to ethical standards. Setting the

The Earth On The Turtle s Back
How was Earth created? How were people created? Why was everything made how it was? All of these questions and many more were asked
by Native Americans, and so they came up with stories to answer these questions in a way they could understand. Some of these stories
include; The Sky Tree, The Earth on the Turtle s Back, Coyote Finishes His Work, Coyote Steals the Sun and Moon, The Blackfeet Genesis,
When Grizzlies Walked Upright, and The Navajo Origin Legend. According to these titles, one could conclude that there were different

Greed In Macbeth
Shakespeare was, and still is, the most celebrated playwright, poet, and actor both during his life and current day. He published many great
works with amazing themes. However there is none greater than theme of greed portrayed in The Tragedy of Macbeth. Greed is played
predominantly throughout this entire play in several characters, but most by none other than MacBeth and his lovely wife, Lady MacBeth.
Not only is theme of greed shown throughout this play, Shakespeare goes as to far as to show how greed can change a person s outlook,

What Is Moral Idealism In Antigone
Simone de Beauvoir s Moral Idealism and Political Realism interprets Sophocles Antigone by emphasizing the importance of accepting
failure and fear in order to improve our understanding and knowledge, rather than running away from the unknown. Sophocles centralizes
around the concepts of fate and wisdom to argue for and to promote the idea that while you can foresee your fate it is impossible to avoid. If
every result or decision was preordained unable to change throughout the course of fate then what is the purpose of knowledge and
education?
Sophocles, through the usage of a tragedy, uses the concepts of wisdom and fate to emphasize the limitations of human knowledge and

writing these entries, it gives a good understanding of each of the chapters and what specifically we have learned from the chapters.
Summarizing is used throughout your career and in every aspect of your life while you read anything. People summarize topics and articles
all the time. In my opinion, I feel reading a summery is easily and faster than reading an entire book article. You can get a good and core
understand of any topic quickly just by reading a summary. People also usually summarize everything; not only is summaries used in books
but it is also used in movies and shows to give us a mini summery of what the movie or television show is mainly about without having to
watch the whole movie or show. I know for myself, I have read up on a lot of summaries for previous televisions shows that I might have
missed so that I can catch on to the present episodes. Summaries can also be used at work when you are trying to help someone understand
and teach a specific topic and not have them go through reading and understanding pages. Now, how to write a summary becomes the
difficult part. Not everyone knows how to write a summery or how to summarize topics. It becomes difficult for people to read a whole
article, book, or chapters and have to summarize them into a 1 2 page paper explaining the main concepts and ideas. There are a lot of

Use of education to influence the thinking of the children under Nazi rule
Imagine living in a community as a child where other children were taught to hate another because of their religious beliefs and the way that

things that they were taught about the Jewish children is correct. To this day there are German elders who believe that the Jewish community
is wrong in many ways. The Nazi rule was extremely influencing to the German children. Although some people may think that children

Trust In Hamlet
Trust is an essential department of every relationship. A healthy relationship needs trust and dependence on one another. Without trust, doubt
and suspicions befall and tension arises between two people. In the play, Hamlet by William Shakespeare, trust is crucial and very breakable.
The main character, Hamlet, is faced in a conflicting situation in which he begins to question the motives of the people closest to him, after
his father s death. He begins to doubt and suspect people close to him like, his lover, Ophelia, and his university friends, Rosencrantz and
Guildenstern. Despite his keen trust issues, he forms a solid and unbreakable trust with his close friend, Horatio in which he is the only

Today, 18 different Hmong clan names are still passed down from generation to generation. Hmong clan names are equivalent to American
last names. First names identify people and last names identify clans. The 18 clans provide life time membership and ongoing material and
spiritual support to their members from birth to death. Newborns are given the father s clan name, which they cannot change. For that reason,
Hmong women retain their clan name when they get married (Moua, 1995). The foundation of Hmong life is marriage and family (Millett,
2002). An ancient ritual requires the groom to pay a bride price, a negotiated sum of money paid to the bride s parents. Hmong newlyweds
live with the husband s parents until they have two or more children. However, Hmong culture expects the last born married son, his wife,

Animists sacrifice animals to worship spirits; they believe that all living things have spirits (Brittan, 1997). Hmong Christians worship God

Descriptive Basketball Game
When you re stressed out where do you go? We all have a place where we can go and relieve our stress. Whether it s a physical place or a
state of mind we all have a place where we feel untouchable. Where the never ending piles of class work and the constant nagging of friends
seem to dissolve like kool aid in water until left with nothing but a smooth mixture of me, myself, and I. For me this place is the court: the
basketball court. When I open the doors of the gym I am met with the familiar sound of squeaking shoes and balls bouncing on the hardwood
floors. I go to sit on the aged wooden bleachers and watch the game that is currently taking place. The weight my worries are being lifted a
little as I get wrapped up in the game. The guard is bringing the ball up the court his eyes scanning for an opening to either pass or shoot the
ball. The opposing team has every man covered leaving little to no room for the guard and his teammates to set up the play. As soon as the
guard sets foot pass half court two defenders go to trap him. Wrong move. The guard quickly, almost effortlessly sidesteps one of the
defenders and dribbles the ball through the leg of the other and proceeds to pass the ball to one of his teammates who take the ball straight to
the rim. I can t help but smile at this perfectly executed play as the game continues. There are several more plays like this made on both sides
but, they all seem to dull in comparison with the first one.
While their game is coming to an end, my problems slowly begin to creep their way back into my mind as I begin to stretch. Loosing up my
body for the intense workout that is coming. As they get off the court I decide to begin my workout with some basic ball handling drills.
Through the left leg, behind the back, around the right, switch, through the right leg, behind the back, around the left leg, repeat. The ball
flowing smoothly through my legs like water as I continue to increase the pace until I ve done this ten times on each leg. As I continue my
problems are beginning to matter less and less. Next, I start my shooting drills and I am soon welcomed by the feeling of the ball leaving my
hand. And like when an archer releases his arrow from his bow and is

The Models Of Human Behavior Essay
Introduction The purpose of this report is to look at the four models of human behaviour including: amoeba, rat, computer and actor and to
try and determine if any of these four models of behaviour influenced the actions of the pilots aboard either the Chembulk Houston or the
Monte Alegre. The report will also look at what other factors may have influenced the decisions of each of the pilots during while the
overtaking manoeuvre was being performed and also up to the point the two ships collided. The four models of human behaviour identified
throughout the incident. The two people that shall be studied in the report are the two ships pilots from the Houston Pilots Association. The
deputy pilot aboard the Chembulk Houston and the pilot whom was aboard the Monte Alegre. The first pilot to review will be the deputy
pilot aboard the Chembulk Houston. The deputy pilot was still an apprentice in his second of two years training to become a full pilot. The
deputy pilot learnt via the very high frequency (VHF) radio that the tugboats for the Monte Alegre had been delayed and he also learnt that
the pilot aboard the Monte Alegre had decided to slow his vessel down. The deputy pilot aboard the Chembulk Houston contacted the pilot

The Conquest Of Hawaii Essay
Before reading this article it never occurred to me that Hawaii wasn t always a part of the United States. Hawaii was always just one of those
locations I knew existed, but seemed a lot like a fantasy. After reading this document, my eyes were opened to how this land was stripped
away from the natives that once called it home. This theft of land all began when Captain James Cook first arrived on the island on January
19, 1778. Cook first arrived in the Hawaiian Islands on 19 January 1778. He as in command of two ships the Resolution and the Discovery (
The Conquest of Hawaii, 1). Though Cook and his men s tragic end seemed to be the end of foreign contact with Hawaii, it was not. Before
long, foreigners came to Hawaii for its sandalwood. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A prominent leader within the community, Ka ahumanu, converted Christianity and aided these missionaries. ... Ka ahumanu became a
Christian in 1825... Eventually, though, she passed a code of law based on the Ten Commandments, and the missionaries were well on their
way to becoming a strong influence in Hawaiian politics. Their idea was to educate Hawaiians, transform Hawaii into a constitutional
monarchy while acting as advisors to the monarchy along the way and get rich in the process... ( The Conquest of Hawaii, 2). Before long,
after the death of Ka ahumanu, who had helped these foreigners gain a foot hold in Hawaii, Kamehameha III, the next chief in line, had
signed a constitution which allowed Hawaiian speaking whites to manipulate the young king and make ground towards seizing Hawaii. With
[the 64 page constitution], the white Hawaiian speaking advisors of Kamehameha III took the first legal step to gain control of Hawaiian land
( The Conquest of Hawaii, 2). After this fatal error of Kamehamedha II, whaling began to become prominent in Hawaii. With the non native
whales came whalers who used local native Hawaiian women as sexual pawns. With sickness, prostitution, and poverty at a high, Hawaii was

Nikola Tesla Accomplishments
Nikola Tesla was a brilliant visionary. He was a true genus who could picture how an invention would work in his mind and then create it. He
held over 700 patents worldwide.
Tesla s achievements include transmission of energy, robotics, radar, electricity, and transmission of communication wirelessly. He
experimented with many things that had not been used before, including x rays, lightning, wireless electricity and laser beams. Tesla s
inventions were ahead of his time, changed the world and how people live, and are still being used today. Tesla was born on July 10, 1856 in
Smiljan, Lika, which is now known as Croatia. His father was a priest, and wanted him to follow in his footsteps; his mother invented
kitchen appliances, exposing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After Tesla graduated, he began working for a telephone company in Budapest as an electrical engineer. Tesla pictured the concept of the
induction motor in his mind. In 1883, he built a prototype and it worked. He tried to promote it throughout Europe, but it was thought to be
too radical and useless. Tesla was offered a job working for Thomas Edison in New York, he had always dreamed of coming to America to
harness power using Niagara Falls. Tesla and Edison did not get along; they had different concepts of how to transmit energy. Edison used
direct current, but Howard 2 it was inferior to Tesla s alternating current. Direct current could not be transmitted very far and needed more
power stations, while alternating current could go further, was stronger and able to power electronics more efficiently. They soon were
involved in what became known as The
War of the Currents . They fought to get funding for their inventions and for their energy source to be used nationwide. Tesla wanted to use
wireless power to provide everyone with free electricity. Banking investor, J.P. Morgan, agreed to finance his project, but Tesla told him he
was trying to build a transmission tower for a global system of wireless communication to relay messages across

  • 3. Essay On Oil Spills 7 years ago, one of the largest oil spills in history occurred at the Deepwater Horizon oil rig. To this day, the damage is still being cleaned up, and will never be the same as it was before. The wellhead at the ocean floor is emptying oil contents at an incredibly high rate, causing the sea to be flooded with the harmful, unnatural substance. It is not until recently that scientists have found a way to help minimize the drastic consequences, yet they still didn t even have time to experiment their supposedly helpful chemical. Their plan is to dump another unnatural chemical into the water to help disperse the oil. With the oil droplets becoming comparably smaller, the slippery substance is less apparent in the water and seems to have a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With this much of a substance being pumped into an ecosystem that doesn t compensate for its presence, marine life has a definite chance of being drastically depleted even more. Unfortunately, it also contaminates the air and the food chain it travels up until it can even reach us. The oil has already contaminated the shores of many US beaches, and it d only be a matter of time until our oceans would be too polluted to swim in. What would this say about the aquatic organisms or the animals we consume from the ocean? Not to mention all the people who would be affected by this. No one wants to swim in dirty water and we do not want the next generation to have to either. It is our responsibility to keep the Earth clean. The other side to dumping the chemical to disperse the oil spill, is that there was not enough research conducted to do so.It could be argued that the decision to dump more of an unknown chemical into the water was rash, and could ve had dangerous consequences. There is still no clear answer if the chemical is harmful to the biotic life, or any of the ecosystem at all. It may only cause more issues that we have to deal with later on. While one problem is solved, another is created. This is what s wrong with human society. We are ruining our planet, but the only way we know how to fix anything is not flawless in its own ... • 4. Drinking At 18 Essay Drinking at 18 If you look around at college parties it seems as if everyone is drinking. Actually you are probably right, but over half of those people drinking are also under the legal drinking age. Drinking is one of the main forms of entertainment for the typical college student. The only problem with drinking being the main form of entertainment is that half of the students in college or 20 years or younger. This seems to be a problem all over the country and a debate has started to see whether or not lowering the drinking age would be a reasonable solution to keep students from over drinking. Many leaders at different universities such as Bill Jordan, a member of the Board of Trustees at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are many other reasons as to why lowering the legal drinking age is being considered other then that students between the age of 18 and 20 on college campuses want the privilege to drink. More serious cases such as that of Mr. Cureton, an 18 year old freshman at the University of North Carolina whom was arrested for driving with a blood alcohol level of 0.14. Mr. Cureton was almost double the legal limit, 0.08 percent, serving as a major hazard to other drivers on the road at the same time (Wald). If students are afraid of calling home for a ride they may try to drive themselves, resulting in more damage then they may realize at the time. But if the drinking age was lowered then they student would not get into legal trouble for calling a parent or another adult for a ride home. Fraternities seem to be having the most problems with the legal drinking age being at 21 as the Theta Chi chapter at the University of Georgia demonstrated last year. Henry Delauney, 19, of Lafayette, La., went into intensive care to be treated for excessive alcohol consumption. Also a pledges from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Louisiana State University died after nights of binge drinking. This natural disaster was extremely catastrophic, it had caused the island of Thera to be uninhabitable for a number years. • 9. Symptoms And Treatment Of An Idiopathic Etiology As previously reported, Ms. Noid referred herself for a voice evaluation because of a chronic, persistent dysphonia characterized by severe hoarseness and breathiness. She had a recent ENT report indicating a left adductor vocal cord paralysis which is paralyzed in the intermediate position. Furthermore, she has reported that her symptoms have persisted for 18 months, eliminating the possibility of an idiopathic etiology. After completing a voice evaluation, recommendations for medical clearance would include evaluations performed by a laryngologist, neurologist, and/or evaluations performed by professionals who would be part of the client s medical team. The recommendation for treatment options would be begin by educating the client, and providing her with behavioral and medical treatment options. Furthermore, Ms. Noid would be informed with the benefits and potential side effects of the various treatments. • 10. Summary Of Outliers By Malcolm Gladwell Cultural Legacies Final Paper In chapter seven and chapter eight of Outliers, Malcolm Gladwell effectively claims that acknowledging cultural legacies betters the chance of success. In chapter seven of Outliers, Malcolm Gladwell entices readers on the topic of plane crashes in the aviation world, while commendably and credibly synthesizing the controversy around the question of how and why plane crashes occur. When illustrating the terrible crash of Korean Airlines Flight 801 in 1997, Gladwell intricately describes the language, words, actions, and psychology of the pilots and crew members associated with the plane crash to better the authenticity of his claim. Combining these ideas, Gladwell forms a theory that arguably proves to be true ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While I was there, I saw firsthand the importance of cultural legacy and the effect it had on the communication between groups of different cultural legacies: Haitian and American. Having the cultural legacy of a native American (not referring to ethnicity), I wore a bracelet on my ankle. In Haiti, the primary cultural legacy of Haitians assumes that anklet bracelets is a symbol for prostitution. Not only does Haiti s cultural legacy induce the tradition of this assumption, it also induces the assumption that prostitution is an act of Satan. Further into the story, I walked past a young orphan girl living at the orphanage I was staying at. As I walked past her, she stopped me in my tracts and yelled at me, Satan! . The communication barrier between me and the young girl, resulted in miscommunication. This is another example of how interaction between different cultural legacies results in a communication barrier. These examples of cultural legacy, are only but a few examples from my trip to Haiti. Because I experienced the interaction between myself and people of different cultural legacies, I agree with Gladwell s theory that cultural legacies are important and effective in acquiring ... Contamination In Non-Template Control Case Study Contamination in non template control (NTC) negative control Presently, species specific primers are widely used for the detection of target species. However, the liability of designed primers can be severely affected by the contamination present during the sampling or in the laboratory (Malmstrom et al, 2005; Johnson 2017). Including negative controls or non template controls (NTC) during the assay can validate the efficiency of designed primers by indicating the presence of contamination and possibly the source of contamination, although a clear confirmation is not possible due to a chance that in the particular reaction primers did not amplify a present target (Lorenz, 2012). Sometimes the technology presented is merely a transposition of existing technologies into the story. At other times, the author takes existing technologies and extrapolates potential novel technology with uncanny accuracy. In both cases, existing technologies have an obvious impact upon the author. Written during the first generation of electronic computers, Starman Jones (1953) and A Logic Named Joe (1946) provide excellent examples of both these cases. The personnel required to operate this computer seems to vary from three to seven, including astrogators (to plot the course through the stars), chartsmen (to interpret the charted course into binary) and computermen (to input the binary into the computer). This resembles the team of six women employed to program ENIAC. It is clear that Heinlein drew upon the computers of his time as a model for the ship s computer. Where Heinlein merely transposes existing technologies, Murray Leinster uses it as a starting point for extrapolation. A text, that pushed back against critics of the previous generation and endeavoured early on to integrate structuralist thought with post structuralist. This integration between structuralism and post structuralism can be seen as an attempt to get at the importance of poetry. In an attempt to stress and illuminate poetry s unique ability to be transformative of both language and the world. Forrest Thomson in Poetic Artifice demands an intense focus on all the rhythmic, phonetic, verbal and logical devices which makes poetry different from prose to best consider this transformative nature. It is in this distinguishing of poetry from prose, and the highly formalist manner and structuralist distrust of language s transparency in which she follows that one can also see a similar differencing between the broader spectrum of literature with the sciences. There is no need in Forrest Thomson s work for differing areas to be inclusive of one another, to the point of loss of individuality, because of a homogenizing of methodology and epistemic reasoning. Throughout both Poetic Artifice and her thesis Poetry as Knowledge: The Use of Science by Twentieth Century Poets, Forest Thomson can be seen to put forward a new structure, in which separation is crucial for any kind of interrelation between the two fields of knowledge. Each journal entry is about different chapters but when writing these entries, it gives a good understanding of each of the chapters and what specifically we have learned from the chapters. Summarizing is used throughout your career and in every aspect of your life while you read anything. People summarize topics and articles all the time. In my opinion, I feel reading a summery is easily and faster than reading an entire book article. You can get a good and core understand of any topic quickly just by reading a summary. People also usually summarize everything; not only is summaries used in books but it is also used in movies and shows to give us a mini summery of what the movie or television show is mainly about without having to watch the whole movie or show. I know for myself, I have read up on a lot of summaries for previous televisions shows that I might have missed so that I can catch on to the present episodes. Summaries can also be used at work when you are trying to help someone understand and teach a specific topic and not have them go through reading and understanding pages. Now, how to write a summary becomes the difficult part. Not everyone knows how to write a summery or how to summarize topics. It becomes difficult for people to read a whole article, book, or chapters and have to summarize them into a 1 2 page paper explaining the main concepts and ideas. There are a lot of ... Moreover, the scenario will challenge your perception of happiness and morality. Hmong clan names are equivalent to American last names. First names identify people and last names identify clans. The 18 clans provide life time membership and ongoing material and spiritual support to their members from birth to death. Newborns are given the father s clan name, which they cannot change. For that reason, Hmong women retain their clan name when they get married (Moua, 1995). The foundation of Hmong life is marriage and family (Millett, 2002). An ancient ritual requires the groom to pay a bride price, a negotiated sum of money paid to the bride s parents. Hmong newlyweds live with the husband s parents until they have two or more children. However, Hmong culture expects the last born married son, his wife, and children to permanently live with, support, and care for his parents and grandparents until their death. Unfortunately, time honored Hmong traditions are challenged by American culture. For example, there is conflict between Hmong Christians and Hmong Animists. Animists sacrifice animals to worship spirits; they believe that all living things have spirits (Brittan, 1997). Hmong Christians worship God and condemn animal sacrifice. The opposing team has every man covered leaving little to no room for the guard and his teammates to set up the play. As soon as the guard sets foot pass half court two defenders go to trap him. Wrong move. The guard quickly, almost effortlessly sidesteps one of the defenders and dribbles the ball through the leg of the other and proceeds to pass the ball to one of his teammates who take the ball straight to the rim. I can t help but smile at this perfectly executed play as the game continues. There are several more plays like this made on both sides but, they all seem to dull in comparison with the first one.
