How Water Is The Water Of The Future Essay
Thousands have lived without love, but not one without water. A.H ADUEN. There cannot be
life without water. Over centuries scientist have said that life began in water. Water makes up
fifty percent to sixty percent of the average human body. To stay healthy, we must at least drink
eight glasses of water a day, we cannot survive three days without water. As you see water is
obligatory to the world; in fact, nothing on earth could survive without it. There could be no life
without water. But what if one day there were no water around to drink? Why should we care
about the water of the future, and what can we do to save water from decreasing? As you read
through any science textbook and you ll read that water is renewable, that although it is used, it
is never used up. But water usage is increasing. Although water covers three fourths of the earth, 97
percent of it is salt water, and more than two percent is frozen in glaciers and icecaps. That means
less than one percent of all water on this earth is usable, while water usage per person averages
100,000 gallons per year. The world s six billion citizens are appropriating 54 percent of all the
accessible fresh water. United Nations research shows that by 2025, The researchers expect 5
billion (52 percent) of the world s projected 9.7 billion people to live in water stressed areas by
2050. They also assume about 1 billion more people to be living in areas where water demand
exceeds surface water supply. A large portion of

Rick And Murty Moral Analysis
Rick and Morty: Adventures Through Space and Morality
Through the invention of the television, the art of animation was able to transition from the big
screen to the small screen. Serialized animated adventures boomed in the 80 s and 90 s as a
market to pander for children, with dry, easy to follow storylines and bright flashing colors no room
for adult humor or ideas. However, just as the medium changed from film to television, the medium
of cartoons has changed as well, opening up for innovative, if at times crude, animated series.
Among this new influx of shows, one space time adventure has emerged to set itself apart from the
usual lineup of grown up cartoons. Rick and Morty has proven to be one of the most entertaining
adult cartoon show with its engaging story and characters, witty commentary, and its clever use of
science fiction tropes and dark comedy to balance the two.
At first glance, you wouldn t think an animated adventure depicting an old, drunken scientist and
his anxious teenage grandson going on bizarre escapades through different universes would be
capable of much depth. Yet some surprising emotion can be found amongst the... Show more

Futurama and The Simpsons are better at blending comedy and drama in similar ways to Rick

Episodes like Leela discovering she isn t an alien but a mutant or Homer thinking his wife Marge
is going to leave him are upsetting to watch, but pale when faced with Rick setting up a science

Spanish Conquistadors Thesis
A Reflection of a Revolution
Exploitation of Mexico by Spanish Conquistadors vividly illustrates the struggle of the native
Mexicans during the inquisition, depicts the violent and savage oppression by the Spanish
conquerors, and satirizes the rule and authority of Cortes. This mural by Diego Rivera was the last
of the corridor panels painted in the Palacio National (Khan Academy). His spectacular approach
portrays an accurate narrative of Mexican history. It is a summarization of the Spanish
enslavement of the Aztecs (Sullivan). He gives a much different view of the discovery and
exploration of the New World. While glory and praise rings around the world for the bravery of
the Spanish to venture to the unknown, Rivera reveals a dark and ... Show more content on

The satirical fashion in which Cortes is portrayed expresses a clear message of lack of political
support (Sullivan). The Spanish cross, flag, and sword shown in the top left corner of the mural
give a three fold message of religious, political, and militant influence used to conquer the natives of
the New World. Religious justification was a guise claimed by the Spanish to use the heathen
Indians for their political and financial gain. CuauhtГ©moc, the last of the Aztec emperors, is
shown in submission to a dominant conquistador representing the Spanish victory over the Aztecs
(Souter). The Spaniards are adorned in ornate armor with recognizable European hats. In contrast,
the Indians are shown demoralized, bound as if they are animals. Also, Rivera paints the
conquistadors branding the Indians like livestock dehumanizing their race and effectively wiping
out their identity. All the images mesh creating a distain for the infiltration of the Spanish and the
erasing of the Aztecs.
Through artistic expression, Rivera gives the Mexican people an outcry of concern. He pictures
Cortes with a green face symbolizing the diseases brought to the New World by

Examples Of Culturally Responsive Teaching
Prompt 1: Learning Processes: Identify ways that the teacher tries to promote meaningful learning
through organization, elaboration, visual imagery, and rehearsal. What were the students
responses? Are there examples of Culturally Relevant and Response teaching (CRRT) and practices
occurring in the classroom? Which tactic seemed to be the most effective? Least effective? Be sure
and include why and how .
From January 12th through February 23rd, I observed Mrs. Nelson s 5th grade classroom for a
total of 10 hours. Mrs. Nelson s class is located at Nielson elementary school in Galesburg, Illinois.
Mrs. Nelson s teaching style has helped me discover new ways to promote different types of
meaningful learning and culturally relevant and responsive teaching in the classroom. Throughout
this paper, I will identify the ways in which Mrs. Nelson has used these methods in her classroom
by providing examples. I will also be discussing the best and worst tactic s of culturally relevant and
responsive teaching that she implemented.

One of the most obvious examples of visual imagery in Mrs. Nelson s classroom is the use of
posters around the room. Images, such as maps and diagrams in the textbooks are also important
visual imagery. Mrs. Nelson not only gives them images and diagrams to look at, but has her
students actually draw things themselves. For example, she had all of the students read a chapter
of a book called Maniac Magee and then draw a picture of what was happening. After drawing out
what they thought was happening, students were able to make mental images in their mind.
Overall, visual imagery is a very important tool to help students and remember specific

Have you ever struggled to make friends at school? Neither did Eric Haskins from the novel the

mission to find out why he got picked to be the grunt. Eric then finds out that there is a book
about picking the right person to be the grunt. One key theme in this book would be don t put

Freedom to Change
Linguistic innovation is a crucial component in Hip Hop or Rap music and in everyday life. As
Curzan and Adams mention in How English Works, there are an infinite number of possible
utterances one can create from the English language. Therefore, who determines what is
acceptable and what is not? Over the centuries, language has changed because of different
influences. For example, Hip Hop and Rap music emerged when African Americans used it as an
expression of their struggle against oppression and economic limitations. These changes may be
acceptable in some circles, but are frowned upon by the society that judges a person by the way
they speak. We the people change the English language and no authority can control those changes.
The use... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One might argue that this cannot be acceptable, perhaps for now soon this word too will become
of the vernacular of the majority. The use of creative utterances encompasses most of Jay Z and
Kanyes lyrics. They refer to the car as a whip (56). There appears to be an association with a fast
whipping action and the car alluding that the car is also fast. A common utterance appears in
line 59, I m about to kill it, an expression that is used by many people. This phrase translates to be
great at something and excel. One understands that he means this rather than actually about to
murder something. People often say to wish them luck by expressing, hope you kill it, or knock
them dead. This example is full of evidence f how language has changed and is changing every
day. Lupe Fiascos shows how powerful language and language choice can be in his song, Dumb
it Down. He begins a very lyrically poetic verse, explaining how he is unable to hear, or see what
is going on. Lupe is describing how the use of intellectual language is not preferred by the Rap
music industry. This shows how language controls the perception of many people. Lupe is
attempting to expose how people define people by the way they speak. In How English Works, the
power of language is focused on, Words have the power to hurt

The United States V. Paramount Pictures (1948)
After World War II, the filmmaking industry experienced a dramatic change. The Paramount
decision and the development of the Hollywood Blacklist created a hostile environment and a
tumultuous time for the filmmaking industry. Although the effects would rattle the industry to its
core, it was instrumental in shaping the filmmaking business into what we know today. United
Statesv. Paramount Pictures (1948) was a landmark United States Supreme Court case that changed
the way filmmakers, producers and theaters would operate forever. It was seen as the proverbial
first nail in the coffin of the old Hollywood studio system. Under this system, film studios also
owner the theaters where their pictures were shown. Therefore, specific theater chains would only
show the films that were produced by the studio that owned them. Further, the studios that created
the film also had the directors, writers, actors, set designers, etc. under contract. To take it even
further, the studios also owned the development laboratories and distribution channels. Basically,
the studios were vertically integrated and created a de facto oligopoly. The federal government had
no choice but to step in. The studios unfair practices led to the suing... Show more content on

You Are Who You Pretend To Be
I recently was introduced to a Kurt Vonnegut quote by a friend. It was mentioned only in passing
and was likely meant only to carry the conversation on, but I have come back to it many times in
my thoughts. The quotation was a warning: Be careful who you pretend to be because you are
who you pretend to be . The truth behind this sentiment is far more pertinent to our lives than we
might like to think. We all have visions of who we are based on what we know, how we compare
ourselves to others, and how we attempt to act, but the actuality of who we are exists
independently of that personal ideal. The truth of the matter is that, regardless of our apparent
individuality, the way we act around others, how we dress and talk, and our general... Show more

When we actively pursue our desires, we take on traits favorable to the completion of our goals.
The assimilation of those traits into our personality may be little more than a result of repetition,
but they become a basis upon which our identity might change or, more consequentially, be judged.
This idea of the formulation of identity is not unfounded, and, although not overtly present in
literature, can be witnessed in certain characters just as in the real world. In order to keep this
essay at least somewhat on topic with the class, I would like to relate this idea to at least some
works which we have read. To observe such formulations of identity in literature, it is usually
unwise to look at the main character. Although that is the main place to find character development,
it wouldn t be a good novel if the character were to constantly change his ideas and behaviors.
The first character who I believe shows just how this idea of identity holds true is the ever
despised Arthur Chillingworth. The very nature of his character is action. Though he is not a
character who we see as active physically in obtaining his goals, without his drive for revenge on
Hester and Dimmesdale he would not be noteworthy at all. Unless he was a peculiar individual in
his life before the story of the scarlet letter, it could be assumed that he was not previously driven
by revenge. It is understandable, then, to look at him as an individual

Comparing Sonnet XLIII And D. H. Lawrence s Piano
In the poems, Sonnet XLIII by Edna St. Vincent Millary and Piano by D.h. Lawrence, they are
different in the subject matter, rhyme, and imagery. Although they are similar when it comes to
tone and theme. In the poem, Piano Lawrence evokes a pleasant time when he was a child, yet he
is sad because he misses his mother (55). The poem, SonnetXLIII Millay is mourning her present
life because of her poor choices in her past. When Millay was younger, she would have many

Urban agriculture
An urban farm in Chicago
Urban agriculture, urban farming or urban gardening is the practice of cultivating, processing, and
distributing food in or around a village, town, or city.[1] Urban agriculture can also involve animal
husbandry, aquaculture, agroforestry, urban beekeeping, and horticulture. These activities occur in
peri urban areas as well, and peri urban agriculture may have different characteristics.[2]
Urban agriculture can reflect varying levels of economic and social development. In the global

A very similar practice came into use during the Great Depression that provided a purpose, a job,
and food to those who would otherwise be without anything during such harsh times. In this case,
these efforts helped to raise spirits socially as well as to boost economic growth. Over 2.8 million
dollars worth of food was produced from the subsistence gardens during the Depression. By the
time of the Second World War, the War/Food Administration set up a National Victory Garden
Program that set out to systematically establish functioning agriculture within cities. With this new
plan in action, as many as 5.5 million Americans took part in the victory garden movement and over
9 million pounds of fruit and vegetables were grown a year, accounting for 44% of U.S. grown
produce throughout that time.[citation needed]
In 2010, New York City saw the building and opening of the world s largest privately owned and
operated rooftop farm, followed by an even larger location in 2012.[6] Both were a result of
municipal programs such as The Green Roof Tax Abatement Program.[7] and Green Infrastructure
Grant Program[8]
With its past success in mind and with modern technology, urban agriculture today can be
something to help both developed and developing nations.

Troy Davis Case Study
The most recent case that I have researched it the Troy Davis case. In this case Troy Davis was

driving away from a pool party they attended in Cloverdale area of Savannah, Georgia.
Approximately, an hour later in the early morning of Saturday, August 19, 1989, there was a

Erik Erickson Psychosocial Stages
I remember learning about Erik Erikson a couple times throughout my life but it seemed to be
very brief then we moved on to another theorist. Erik Erickson was born in 1902, in Frankfurt,
Germany (Erik Erickson). Erickson lived with his mother and her husband, his step father. In
1930 he married his wife, Joan Serson, and in 1933 they moved with their son to the United
States (Erik Erickson). They raised three children while living in the United States. Erickson
believed that the next stage of life is made up of what happened in the previous life stage
(Jalongo page 117). There are eight stages in Erickson s psychosocial stages four of these stages
are crucial to development between birth and age twelve (117). The other for begin in... Show more

This stage happens during a child s first year of life. During this stage of life it is very important
that an infant gets their needs satisfied (Lecture). If needs are met consistently, infants develop
trust in others and a hopeful helpful outlook (page 118). This is a very important stage because
it is the stepping stone for the other stages and if the infant s needs are not met it makes it hard
for the infant to trust people. The next stage in Erik Erickson is autonomy versus shame and
doubt. This stage is from ages one to three years old, the toddlers. This is the stage where
toddlers become their own person and want to start doing things themselves, like walk and talk.
During this stage toddlers conflict centers on their ability to exert ownership over their bodies
(page 118). It is also this also this stage that toddlers learn potty training. The third stage of
Erikson s psychosocial stages is initiative versus guilt. This stage takes place during the preschool
years, ages three to five. During this time preschoolers struggle between their ability to undertake
and complete tasks and their fear of failing at those tasks (page 118). This is the age that they
want to try to do things but sometimes think that they can t do it. For example, a child being

Charlemagne Vs Byzantine Church Essay
The early Byzantine church of San Vitale and the Medieval Palatine Chapel of Charlemagne both

East. Constantinople was the new capital and its Emperor, Constantine the Great, began to lay the
groundwork for the Christianization of the Roman Empire. His eagerness to promote Christianity
and provide places of veneration led to the building of churches, basilicas and mausoleums. After
his death in 337 his sons took power. Next, Emperor Theodosius ruled and at his death in 395,
divided the Empire into an East and West between his two sons. Fast forward to the sack of Rome
by nomadic German tribes in 410, Ravenna (present day Italy) was made the new Western capital.
Meanwhile, the Byzantine Empire in the East survived and in 527, Justinian I became its new
emperor.

Starting Off With The Gordon Growth Model
Starting off with the Gordon Growth Model was developed by Professor Myron Gordon of the
University of Toronto. It explains that if any investor is aware of the dividends handed out in a
year by any company, and at what rate that dividend will grow, the investor is able to determine
the actual value of the stock, which describes what the investor should pay at most for the
selected stock issued by the company. (Ozyasar, 2015) The Gordon Growth models inputs are
relatively easy to determine. The dividends can be found using any platform or the general news
(since they are announced publicly). The investor generally has an idea of the required return
he/she demands of a certain stock they are investing in i.e 12%. The problematic issue arises in
determining the rate at which a dividend will grow. This is determined through being able to
make assumptions on what product will grow in the market or in general which company will
grow, which usually makes final results inexact Ozyasar describes. The limitation of the Gordon
Growth Model arises when there is no constant growth rate on a stock dividend, which in reality
as Ozyasar describes is almost never the case. Despite these limitations the GGM is still a
powerful tool used by investors constantly to make decisions on what required return or growth
rate would they require for a stock to be favorable and from that an investor determines how to
move on with their portfolio. For example Michael Blair discussed the use of the

The Theory Of The Entrepreneurship Process
The entrepreneurship process is continually changing due to the aspect of globalisation. It is in this
regard that the definitive term of the entrepreneurship process is becoming hard to derive. Various
individuals are strategically coming up with innovative ideas that have effects on the economies of
various countries. Entrepreneurs are known to create various types of ventures that range from
lifestyle organisations to rapid growth corporations (Morris, Schindehutte Allen, 2005, p. 730). The
ventures can either be regarded to be a profit making venture, or a business that is more focused on
promoting certain values in the society. The basis in which an individual takes up the
entrepreneurship task depends on the motivation of the individual and the motivation that they
have. There are various theories that try to define the twenty first century entrepreneur, and these
models have helped significantly in identifying the individuals who formed the basis of this
research. Many economists describe the concept of entrepreneurship differently; additionally, the
core characteristics of an entrepreneur vary with different definitions. Kuratko (2008, p. 20) defines
an entrepreneur as an individual who comes up with products, in the form of goods and services,
that are in demand by the public but are not being supplied. The traditional ways of defining an
entrepreneur is changing with the different ventures that people are undertaking in the society
today. The rise in social

The Soviet Union And Capitalist America
From Stettin in the Baltic to Trieste in the Adriatic an iron curtain has descended across the
Continent. The Cold War placed most of the post war world into a perpetual state of paranoia and
dramatically rose tensions between both world powers and their respective ideologies; the
Communist Soviet Union and Capitalist America. Both of these powers were in a race to have the
advantage over one another, with accelerations in arms developments and eventually creating a
standoff between the the Western and Eastern blocs. Two national leaders were very prevalent in
bringing a significant amount of change to the European Region, the first leader being Harry
Truman (1945 1953) who introduced the Truman Doctrine and Marshall Plan with the slogan It
must be the policy of the United States to support free peoples who are resisting attempted
subjugation by armed minorities and outside pressures The second significant leader who exacted
significant change in the European Region and subsequently culminated the Cold Warwas Mikhail
Gorbachev (1985 1991) whose policies of Glasnost Openness and Economic, Political and Social
Perestroika Restructuring followed his belief that It would be naive to think that the problems
plaguing mankind today can be solved with means and methods which were applied or seemed to
work in the past. . . Both leaders exacted changes that were crucial in shaping the European region
during the Cold War.

Facility Planning Part II
Introduction
Development and growing a facility takes much time and contemplation with respect to regulatory
requirements, budgets, planning and development of the building and the interior design of the
building. Making certain code requirements are met which is usually to help the architect and
contractor. Many matters must be well thought out during the preliminary design created by the
stakeholders in the blueprint. Color collections used, which are satisfying physically and
psychologically as well as noise reduction must be reflected when planning the facility. Equipment

In addition, they should also offer security and safety.
And finally, they should be sustainable since they impact greatly on environment and are big
consumers of water and energy. The designs must therefore ensure that they follow the regulations
and all equipment and machines used should not violate the set codes and standards.
Color selection implications and noise issues
The color of a health care facility is important to the wellbeing and therefore the health of patients.
According to Carr (2010), the colors should be calming and well coordinated to achieve the best
mental state and mood of patients and to create a cohesive atmosphere helpful to their recovery. If
the colors are not tranquil, they may disturb the wellbeing of patients and even become threatening
to their recovery. Noises in a hospital should be kept to a minimal to allow patients enough time to
rest undisturbed and to make them feel secure. Privacy is also important and facilities should
ensure they protect patients information in the course of giving care.
List of the type of equipment needed
Outpatient facilities require certain equipment and electronic items. These items include, but are
not limited to:
These include room dividers, X ray machine, laboratory kits and products, heating and ventilation,
sinks, examination beds, vital assessment equipment such as blood pressure monitors, stethoscopes,

Family Centered Practice
Description of the major thrust of family centered practice
According to Sandau Beckler (2001), the primary drive of family centered practice is customer
empowerment . She defined empowerment as the process of negotiating or eliminating barriers to
problem solving imposed by external society (p. 86). Moreover, she elaborated that the therapist
should present the customer with prospects that would result in empowerment. Similarly, Cohen
(2004) mentioned that both the therapist and customer benefits from this expansion. she further
uttered, You become empowered as you assist in the empowerment of others (p.42).

Cloud Computing And The Protection Of Intellectual Property
Trust in Cloud Computing
Cloud computing has a duty to protect data privacy and some countries are going to great measures
to further ensure that their data is kept within their national borders (Trend Micro, 2013). It has
been suggested that new ethics frameworks are necessary in order to instill trust in the industry
based on known parameters that include
the use of critical equipment,
management of critical data,
respect for privacy,
security and longevity of information,
And the protection of intellectual property.
Worldwide, both the public and private sectors have grown in their distrust and discomfort in the
ability of companies to handle user data properly. Trust must be restored by defining a clear line
between legitimate security concerns and an individual s right to privacy. One way to ensure
privacy is by separating the application that is being used (cloud service) from the data it stores
and some providers are already employing this method.
Privacy concerns recently increased after a private company, inBloom secured over 600 New York
schools as a client for student data handling (Trend Micro, 2013). inBloom described its effort as a
plan to integrate a technology that could aggregate and store student information for educational
institutions and then release it to approved third parties that would then personalize tools and
dashboards specifically for classroom educators and those students (Herold, 2014). They became the
target for many

In this novel, Miss Harriet has an affair with Tomas Arroyo to save the old gringo#8217;s life.
Supposedly, Arroyo claimed that he would kill the gringo unless she slept with him. At the end
of the story, Harriet despises Tomas Arroyo for everything he does and learns to love the old
gringo as a father. The old gringo is a very mysterious, adventure and death seeking character. He
comes to Mexico in search of death, hoping that he could just die in the battlefield. We learn that
he had his own family, but all were dead or wanted nothing to do with him. He was a bitter
American journalist who had made an abrupt break with his past and is riding into Mexico to
join Pancho Villa #8217;s revolutionary army. Clues suggest that if this man were ever named
he would prove to be Ambrose Bierce, an American journalist, who vanished from the United

Loie Fuller s Dance Critique
Critique 1
On Friday, September 11th at 7:00 PM, I attended Dancestry by the Shay Ishii Dance Company.
This performance was held by Texas State University s Department of Theatre and Dance.
The vision for the performance was to take modern dance pioneers and highlighting their work and
contributions.
The first segment of the night was highlighting Loie Fuller. Fuller was a choreographer and dancer
of a unique and beautiful style of dance, using dazzling and flowing silk dresses. Her breakthrough
in what became known as Serpentine Dance . In Friday s performance, it was evident that the
beauty of the dance wasn t because of the flowing dresses, but the lighting used to create beautiful
images. When the performance started, I was very confused. ... Show more content on

Her tribute consisted of three movements from Chopin Suite. All of them involved three young
women. The unique thing about these dances that separated them from the others showcased was
that I was actually able to follow them. They were more story like than the rest. Duncan s dance
style was similar to Fuller in that she utilized flowing scarves and dresses to enhance the dances.
This part of the show was my favorite, I love dances that tell a clear cut story, and Isadora Duncan
s style of dance allowed for that to happen.
The last segment of the night was highlighting the work of Erick Hawkins. Hawkins vision
consisted of unique dancing, costuming, and overall style of performance. He utilized traditions
from New Zealand tribes in his work. I personally was not a fan of the Hawkins performances.
There was a lot of nonsensical movements, and there was just too much going on the stage.
Although there was only the one stage, there were at times so many separate movements going on
at once, it seemed that there were 3 or 4 separate stages. I can see the appeal that some audience
members could have had in viewing this dance style, though. The music was very interesting, and
the costumes even more so. I was reminded at times of the Lion King. There were leaping
antelope, huge porcupines, and several fish all dancing on the stage. Although I wasn t very
interested in Hawkin s dance style,

The Structure and Function Of Arteries, Veins and Capillaries
The Structure and Function Of Arteries, Veins and Capillaries
In its route from the heart to the tissues, the blood passes through channels of six foremost types:
elastic arteries, muscular arteries, arterioles, capillaries, venules and veins. I intend to explore the
structure and function of arteries, veins and capillaries. When an artery branches into smaller and
smaller vessels, eventually the blood vessel is too small to see with the naked eye. At that point, it
is called an arteriole. Likewise, a venule is a microscopic vein.
Arteries
All arteries are comprised of three different layers but the proportion and structure of each varies
with the size and function of the particular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Arteries, because of their elastic nature can stretch with systole or relax with diastole. Their
elastic property allows the arteries to oppose the force of the flow. The arteries can control (help
form a pulsatile) the flow so that when blood reaches the arterioles and eventually the capillaries
the stream of blood is milder. The wall of the arterioles contains less elastic fibres because the
blood pressure within the arterioles is lower. Arterioles have more smooth muscle cells than large
arteries, which allow blood to pass through them and on to the capillaries efficiently because
friction is reduced.
Veins =====
Veins and venules are similar in structure to arteries and arterioles, however veins have a wider
inner diameter, which means that they can hold a larger volume of blood. Since it would be
unworkable to get all the blood back to the heart as quickly as it left the heart (because there is no
pumping mechanism to do so); veins have to be able to hold more blood than arteries. The veins
provide a storage area for our blood, which is why the diameter of the veins is larger than the
artery diameter. At any given time, the majority of our blood is within our veins.
Veins have a thinner smooth muscle layer that allows for the expansion of the vessels and minimize
resistance by reducing

The Book Of Daniel ( Summary )

1 In the third year of the reign of King Jehoiakim of Judah, King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon
came to Jerusalem and besieged it. God let King Jehoiakim of Judah fall into his power. Then the
king commanded his palace master Ashpenaz to bring in some Israelites of the royal family and
of nobility, young men without physical defect and handsome, versed in every branch of wisdom,
endowed with knowledge and insight, and competent to serve in the king s palace. They were to
be educated for three years, so that at the end of that time they could be put in the king s court.
Among them were Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, from the tribe of Judah. The palace
master gave them different names: Daniel he called Belteshazzar, Hananiah he called Shadrach,
Mishael he called Meshach , and Azariah he called Abednego. To these four young men God gave
knowledge and skill in every aspect of literature and wisdom; Daniel also had insight into all visions
and dreams. Among all the young men, no one was found to compare with Daniel, Hananiah,
Mishael, and Azariah; therefore they were stationed in the king s court. In every matter of wisdom
and understanding concerning which the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better
than all the magicians and enchanters in his whole kingdom. And Daniel continued there until the

Music And Painting From 20th Century Western Music History

Music and Painting
During the study of 20th century Western music history in this class, I found out there are may
same movements of art and music. I took 20th century Art history as well so there is always the
comparison of them in my mind. Music and art appear to be two different art forms. Music is both
auditory art, but also an art of time and movement. Music express musicians feelings through
sound, it will create images in the mind of the viewer for them to have a variety of feelings, and to
elicit in the viewer emotional resonance. Painting is a visual art, space art. It is static. Painters use
lines, shades and other forms to sketched out some figurative or abstract pattern. It provide visually
to the viewer a strong impression and cause them reflect a variety of emotions, resulting in aesthetic
stimulation. Music and painting each is done through a different medium with different means of
artistic expression. They both convey people the author s expression of the content and emotion.
Many artists themselves are both musicians and painters, such as Kandinsky, Schoenberg,
Leonardo da Vinci and extra. One of the great examples is Wassily Kandinsky. He is one of the
representatives of Russian expressionism painter. He also was a man versed in music. He is a
friend of expressionist music composer, Schoenberg. By listening to Schoenberg s works, he felt

Women s Role In The Crusades
The time of the Crusades, as stated by Carol Hillenbrand, spans from 1095 when the Pope Urban II
made his famous call to arms, until the fiftieth centuries and even later, although many pinpoint the
fall of Acre in 1091 as the termination of serious Crusader activity (2012 p. 1) and the events that
took place have changed the course of history and altered the political atmosphere of our world.
When reading though Crusade literature to gain insight into this important time in history, both the
Christian and Muslim perspective accounts, it is easy to overlook the role that women played in the
Crusades; however, if one looks deep enough into the labyrinth of history, he or she will discover
the footprints left behind by the women of the crusades.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the absence of their husband or son, many women were left in charge of the estates that the
husband or son had left behind and some with the burden of financially supporting a relative on
crusade and event taking over their husbands political offices for the duration of the crusade...
examples are the countess of Flanders and Eleanor of Aquitaine (Maier, 2004). As the examples
of women that Jonathan Riley Smith listed, this task proved to require great skill and dedication
on the part of the women (1998, p. 98 99), and often times, as evidenced by the English legal
records of that time, women had to take legal action in order defend these estates and sometimes
lost their lives (as cited in Tyerman 208 217). Clearly, the role that women played on the home
front was necessary and challenging.
Women on the Battlefront
The second category of roles that women played in the crusades are those which occurred on the
battlefield; the roles that this encompasses is not intended to be limited to actual fighting, but
instead to refer to all the roles that those women who came with the crusader army to the East
filled. As Keren Caspi Reisfeld put it some women... engaged in diplomacy that affected the course
of the fighting; others provided moral or physical support to the crusaders on the battle field, the
most daring women... mounted on horses dressed in armor and bearing lances (2002, p. 95).

A Historical Movie Need Not Be 100% True Essay
Advanced information technology is widely used in the millennium age. History is can be
reprinted, re edited and re presented (Chan, 2013). Relatively, history can be shown in a more
realistic way than before. Audience can spend few hours to have a brief understanding of history.
However, I think the motivation of making historical movie is not merely for education but
consists of other reasons. Seediq Bale will be taken as an example for elaboration. Firstly, the
movie is a review of modern value. There is a comparison between civilized (Japanese) and
uncivilized (Indigenous people). Modern education tells me civilizationis an indispensible element
for human evolution. It is a symbol of superiority. Indigenous people who are illiterate... Show more

It depreciates indigenous people. Indigenous people cannot receive fair treatment even they are
better than Japanese. Indigenous women are not respected. They need to drink with Japanese.
Government does not help them when they are raped. Money is not need in the world of
indigenous people but civilization introduces money which makes indigenous people become the
poor as they do not have money originally. Civilization introduces development so that the home
of indigenous people is mined. Their resources are deprived. Civilization introduces
secularization so that traditions and customs are prohibited. Their belief is not respected (Wei,
2011). These are different with my understanding of civilization which is contributive and
inclusive. In addition, Mona Rudo mentioned he had visited Japan. Japanese deliberately arrange
him to have dinner with his enemies to make the atmosphere nervous. He keeps kind to Japanese
when there is conflicts between Japanese and indigenous people. But Japanese never say thank
you to him. Conversely, Japanese always threat him (Wei, 2011). This reflects Japanese
civilization does not respect indigenous people. It also consists of conspiracy. Things shown
from the movie are very realistic. We are easy to misunderstand that these are 100% true. Usually,
there is a difference between projection and reality. In Seediq Bale, Mona Rudo is a hero. His
image is positive. In reality, he had cooperated with Japanese. He

Pellagra Research Paper
Pellagra is a disease which is caused as a result of a deficiency is vitamin B 3, also known as
niacin. Pellagara can be identified in two ways with the first being Primary pellagra which is the
result of not enough niacin in the body or Secondary pellagra which is the result of there being
enough niacin in the body, but there is an inhibitant which will prevent the absorption of niacinand
the processing of niacin by the body. Both Primary and Secondary pellagracan result in a patient
having diarrhea, vomiting, fatigue, dementia and dermatitis. This is a severe condition which if left
untreated will lead to the death being the outcome for the patient. Pellagra is not a current danger in
the United States and internationally is seen in under... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In most instaces a person being treated for pellagra should see improvement within two days of
their treatment plan beginning. The primary goal of a treatment plan will be to raise the level of
niacin in the body. While the main focus will be in placing niacin in the body to get niacin to
optimal levels, there may be instances in which treatment will cause for other supplements to be
take in addition to the increases niacin. Many times this diet will include a high protein diet along
with an infusion of B complex vitamins because many times the patient will have other nutrion
related issues in addition to niacin deficiency when diagnosed with pellagara. Patients may be on
bedrest while undergoing treatment for

Huckleberry Finn Bibliography
Twain, Mark. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Cape Cod: Peninsula Press, 1996. Print. The
Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, is a novel that I will be using as my exhibit
source. Mark Twain was a well known American writer, humorist, and entrepreneur that wrote
several books in the 1800s. The main theme of the story is Huck s ongoing battle between being
domesticated and being free . This book is necessary for my research due to the change that
Huckleberry Finn displays from the beginning to the end. The development Huckleberry Finn
displays confirms the notion that personality change is indeed possible. Spiegel, Alix.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Polyepoxide
Epoxy or polyepoxide is a cross linking thermosetting polymer that cures (polymerizes and cross
links) when mixed with a hardener or curing agent. Most common epoxy resins are formed by the
polymerization between epichlorohydrin and bisphenol A. Dr. S.O. Greenlee of United States and
Dr. Pierre Castan of Switzerland were in the year 1936, first jointly synthesized bisphenol A based
epoxyresins.
Epoxy resin is most widely used as a matrix for advanced structural composites due to their
superior thermal, electrical and mechanical properties; chemical resistance and dimensional
stability. Epoxy is also used as surface coatings and most widely used as industrial finishes and
provides flexibility, superior adhesion and corrosion resistance when ... Show more content on

The matrix used in this study was an epoxy polymer based on bisphenol A resin (Araldite LY
556) and an aromatic hardener (Araldite HY 932). Weight percentages ranging from 0.0225 to
0.15 wt% of the pristine CVD grown [50] MWCNTs (diameter 5 10 nm, length a few microns)
were first dispersed in ethanol in an ultrasonic bath at room temperature for 1 h. The solution
was then mixed with the resin and stirred for 1 h at 2000 rpm at 80В°C. Ethanol was evaporated
in a vacuum oven at 80В°C for 1 h, and the mixtures were stirred again for 1 h at 2000 rpm. After
adding the hardener, the mixtures were stirred at 2000 rpm for 15 min. The resulting epoxy
nanocomposite was hardened in a vacuum oven at 140В°C for 8 h. Composite sample containing
0.025% of CNTs in the epoxy resin show a remarkable improvement in the dispersion of CNTs in
the epoxy resin due to ultrasound exposure. At these lower filler fractions, neither the processing

was something of a bipolar personality. He also revealed that during their time together she was
nothing but a spell to him and he in words that shouldn t be recorded expressed his newfound

Day and Night through a Mother s Eyes Essay
In Alice Walker s Everyday Use the reader is introduced to three main characters, a mother and
her two daughters. The first daughter, Maggie, still lives at home with her mother and is her
companion. Dee, however, moves on with life and goes out to make something of herself in the
world. The story is an account of one of Dee s visits, but the narrator, the mother, makes a very
obvious comparison between Dee and Maggie s looks, intelligence, behaviorism, and values. The
reader has a lesson to learn since the story is told through the mother s eyes. It is amazing that two
siblings can grow up in the same environment and turned out so differently. Dee and Maggie are
like day and night, each with her own strengths and weaknesses.... Show more content on

Although she is jealous of her sister, Maggie more admires her than anything. It is, however,
upsetting that the narrator never suggests Dee has any admiration or respect for Maggie or
herself, for that matter. The story never even suggests that Dee feels sorry for Maggie, instead it
can be interpreted that Dee just looks down on her sister, as she does the rest of her family.
The reader can also learn about the girls from how they treat others. Just like everything else,
they are opposites. Dee would always look anyone in the eye. Hesitation was no part of her
nature (92) while Maggie walks chin on chest, eyes on ground, feet in shuffle (94). Mama also
knows that while her sister is there Maggie will be nervous and stand hopelessly in corners,
homely and ashamed of the burns scars down her arms and legs (92). While Maggie has always
felt inferior, Dee seems haughty and kind of has a superiority complex. Dee is also implied to
be manipulative. Dee would read to her mother and Maggie knowing it was literature beyond
their comprehension just so she could show off. She used to read to us without pit; forcing
words, lies, other folks habits, whole lives upon us two. She washed us in a river of make
believe, burned us with a lot of knowledge we didn t necessarily need to know (94). The phrase
She read to them is repeated when talking about Dee around her friends and boys that wanted to
date her (95). However, in this context, it is hardly

  • 2. How Water Is The Water Of The Future Essay Thousands have lived without love, but not one without water. A.H ADUEN. There cannot be life without water. Over centuries scientist have said that life began in water. Water makes up fifty percent to sixty percent of the average human body. To stay healthy, we must at least drink eight glasses of water a day, we cannot survive three days without water. As you see water is obligatory to the world; in fact, nothing on earth could survive without it. There could be no life without water. But what if one day there were no water around to drink? Why should we care about the water of the future, and what can we do to save water from decreasing? As you read through any science textbook and you ll read that water is renewable, that although it is used, it is never used up. But water usage is increasing. Although water covers three fourths of the earth, 97 percent of it is salt water, and more than two percent is frozen in glaciers and icecaps. That means less than one percent of all water on this earth is usable, while water usage per person averages 100,000 gallons per year. The world s six billion citizens are appropriating 54 percent of all the accessible fresh water. United Nations research shows that by 2025, The researchers expect 5 billion (52 percent) of the world s projected 9.7 billion people to live in water stressed areas by 2050. They also assume about 1 billion more people to be living in areas where water demand exceeds surface water supply. A large portion of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Rick And Murty Moral Analysis Rick and Morty: Adventures Through Space and Morality Through the invention of the television, the art of animation was able to transition from the big screen to the small screen. Serialized animated adventures boomed in the 80 s and 90 s as a market to pander for children, with dry, easy to follow storylines and bright flashing colors no room for adult humor or ideas. However, just as the medium changed from film to television, the medium of cartoons has changed as well, opening up for innovative, if at times crude, animated series. Among this new influx of shows, one space time adventure has emerged to set itself apart from the usual lineup of grown up cartoons. Rick and Morty has proven to be one of the most entertaining adult cartoon show with its engaging story and characters, witty commentary, and its clever use of science fiction tropes and dark comedy to balance the two. At first glance, you wouldn t think an animated adventure depicting an old, drunken scientist and his anxious teenage grandson going on bizarre escapades through different universes would be capable of much depth. Spanish Conquistadors Thesis A Reflection of a Revolution Exploitation of Mexico by Spanish Conquistadors vividly illustrates the struggle of the native Mexicans during the inquisition, depicts the violent and savage oppression by the Spanish conquerors, and satirizes the rule and authority of Cortes. This mural by Diego Rivera was the last of the corridor panels painted in the Palacio National (Khan Academy). His spectacular approach portrays an accurate narrative of Mexican history. It is a summarization of the Spanish enslavement of the Aztecs (Sullivan). He gives a much different view of the discovery and exploration of the New World. The satirical fashion in which Cortes is portrayed expresses a clear message of lack of political support (Sullivan). The Spanish cross, flag, and sword shown in the top left corner of the mural give a three fold message of religious, political, and militant influence used to conquer the natives of the New World. Religious justification was a guise claimed by the Spanish to use the heathen Indians for their political and financial gain. CuauhtГ©moc, the last of the Aztec emperors, is shown in submission to a dominant conquistador representing the Spanish victory over the Aztecs (Souter). The Spaniards are adorned in ornate armor with recognizable European hats. In contrast, the Indians are shown demoralized, bound as if they are animals. Also, Rivera paints the conquistadors branding the Indians like livestock dehumanizing their race and effectively wiping out their identity. All the images mesh creating a distain for the infiltration of the Spanish and the erasing of the Aztecs. Through artistic expression, Rivera gives the Mexican people an outcry of concern. As Curzan and Adams mention in How English Works, there are an infinite number of possible utterances one can create from the English language. Therefore, who determines what is acceptable and what is not? Over the centuries, language has changed because of different influences. For example, Hip Hop and Rap music emerged when African Americans used it as an expression of their struggle against oppression and economic limitations. These changes may be acceptable in some circles, but are frowned upon by the society that judges a person by the way they speak. We the people change the English language and no authority can control those changes. The use... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One might argue that this cannot be acceptable, perhaps for now soon this word too will become of the vernacular of the majority. The use of creative utterances encompasses most of Jay Z and Kanyes lyrics. They refer to the car as a whip (56). There appears to be an association with a fast whipping action and the car alluding that the car is also fast. A common utterance appears in line 59, I m about to kill it, an expression that is used by many people. This phrase translates to be great at something and excel. One understands that he means this rather than actually about to murder something. People often say to wish them luck by expressing, hope you kill it, or knock them dead. This example is full of evidence f how language has changed and is changing every day. Lupe Fiascos shows how powerful language and language choice can be in his song, Dumb it Down. He begins a very lyrically poetic verse, explaining how he is unable to hear, or see what is going on. Lupe is describing how the use of intellectual language is not preferred by the Rap music industry. This shows how language controls the perception of many people. Further, the studios that created the film also had the directors, writers, actors, set designers, etc. under contract. It was mentioned only in passing and was likely meant only to carry the conversation on, but I have come back to it many times in my thoughts. The quotation was a warning: Be careful who you pretend to be because you are who you pretend to be . The truth behind this sentiment is far more pertinent to our lives than we might like to think. We all have visions of who we are based on what we know, how we compare ourselves to others, and how we attempt to act, but the actuality of who we are exists independently of that personal ideal. The truth of the matter is that, regardless of our apparent individuality, the way we act around others, how we dress and talk, and our general... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When we actively pursue our desires, we take on traits favorable to the completion of our goals. The assimilation of those traits into our personality may be little more than a result of repetition, but they become a basis upon which our identity might change or, more consequentially, be judged. This idea of the formulation of identity is not unfounded, and, although not overtly present in literature, can be witnessed in certain characters just as in the real world. In order to keep this essay at least somewhat on topic with the class, I would like to relate this idea to at least some works which we have read. To observe such formulations of identity in literature, it is usually unwise to look at the main character. Although that is the main place to find character development, it wouldn t be a good novel if the character were to constantly change his ideas and behaviors. The first character who I believe shows just how this idea of identity holds true is the ever despised Arthur Chillingworth. The very nature of his character is action. Though he is not a character who we see as active physically in obtaining his goals, without his drive for revenge on Hester and Dimmesdale he would not be noteworthy at all. Unless he was a peculiar individual in his life before the story of the scarlet letter, it could be assumed that he was not previously driven by revenge. • 21. Starting Off With The Gordon Growth Model Starting off with the Gordon Growth Model was developed by Professor Myron Gordon of the University of Toronto. It explains that if any investor is aware of the dividends handed out in a year by any company, and at what rate that dividend will grow, the investor is able to determine the actual value of the stock, which describes what the investor should pay at most for the selected stock issued by the company. (Ozyasar, 2015) The Gordon Growth models inputs are relatively easy to determine. The dividends can be found using any platform or the general news (since they are announced publicly). The investor generally has an idea of the required return he/she demands of a certain stock they are investing in i.e 12%. The problematic issue arises in determining the rate at which a dividend will grow. This is determined through being able to make assumptions on what product will grow in the market or in general which company will grow, which usually makes final results inexact Ozyasar describes. The limitation of the Gordon Growth Model arises when there is no constant growth rate on a stock dividend, which in reality as Ozyasar describes is almost never the case. Despite these limitations the GGM is still a powerful tool used by investors constantly to make decisions on what required return or growth rate would they require for a stock to be favorable and from that an investor determines how to move on with their portfolio. It is in this regard that the definitive term of the entrepreneurship process is becoming hard to derive. Entrepreneurs are known to create various types of ventures that range from lifestyle organisations to rapid growth corporations (Morris, Schindehutte Allen, 2005, p. 730). The ventures can either be regarded to be a profit making venture, or a business that is more focused on promoting certain values in the society. There are various theories that try to define the twenty first century entrepreneur, and these models have helped significantly in identifying the individuals who formed the basis of this research. Many economists describe the concept of entrepreneurship differently; additionally, the core characteristics of an entrepreneur vary with different definitions. Kuratko (2008, p. 20) defines an entrepreneur as an individual who comes up with products, in the form of goods and services, that are in demand by the public but are not being supplied. The Cold War placed most of the post war world into a perpetual state of paranoia and dramatically rose tensions between both world powers and their respective ideologies; the Communist Soviet Union and Capitalist America. Cloud Computing And The Protection Of Intellectual Property Trust in Cloud Computing Cloud computing has a duty to protect data privacy and some countries are going to great measures to further ensure that their data is kept within their national borders (Trend Micro, 2013). It has been suggested that new ethics frameworks are necessary in order to instill trust in the industry based on known parameters that include the use of critical equipment, management of critical data, respect for privacy, security and longevity of information, And the protection of intellectual property. Worldwide, both the public and private sectors have grown in their distrust and discomfort in the ability of companies to handle user data properly. Trust must be restored by defining a clear line between legitimate security concerns and an individual s right to privacy. One way to ensure privacy is by separating the application that is being used (cloud service) from the data it stores and some providers are already employing this method. Privacy concerns recently increased after a private company, inBloom secured over 600 New York schools as a client for student data handling (Trend Micro, 2013). inBloom described its effort as a plan to integrate a technology that could aggregate and store student information for educational institutions and then release it to approved third parties that would then personalize tools and dashboards specifically for classroom educators and those students (Herold, 2014). This performance was held by Texas State University s Department of Theatre and Dance. The vision for the performance was to take modern dance pioneers and highlighting their work and contributions. The first segment of the night was highlighting Loie Fuller. Fuller was a choreographer and dancer of a unique and beautiful style of dance, using dazzling and flowing silk dresses. The unique thing about these dances that separated them from the others showcased was that I was actually able to follow them. They were more story like than the rest. This part of the show was my favorite, I love dances that tell a clear cut story, and Isadora Duncan s style of dance allowed for that to happen. The last segment of the night was highlighting the work of Erick Hawkins. Hawkins vision consisted of unique dancing, costuming, and overall style of performance. The Structure and Function Of Arteries, Veins and Capillaries The Structure and Function Of Arteries, Veins and Capillaries In its route from the heart to the tissues, the blood passes through channels of six foremost types: elastic arteries, muscular arteries, arterioles, capillaries, venules and veins. I intend to explore the structure and function of arteries, veins and capillaries. When an artery branches into smaller and smaller vessels, eventually the blood vessel is too small to see with the naked eye. At that point, it is called an arteriole. Likewise, a venule is a microscopic vein. Arteries All arteries are comprised of three different layers but the proportion and structure of each varies with the size and function of the particular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Arteries, because of their elastic nature can stretch with systole or relax with diastole. Their elastic property allows the arteries to oppose the force of the flow. The arteries can control (help form a pulsatile) the flow so that when blood reaches the arterioles and eventually the capillaries the stream of blood is milder. The wall of the arterioles contains less elastic fibres because the blood pressure within the arterioles is lower. Arterioles have more smooth muscle cells than large arteries, which allow blood to pass through them and on to the capillaries efficiently because friction is reduced. Veins ===== Veins and venules are similar in structure to arteries and arterioles, however veins have a wider inner diameter, which means that they can hold a larger volume of blood. Since it would be unworkable to get all the blood back to the heart as quickly as it left the heart (because there is no pumping mechanism to do so); veins have to be able to hold more blood than arteries. The veins provide a storage area for our blood, which is why the diameter of the veins is larger than the artery diameter. At any given time, the majority of our blood is within our veins. Veins have a thinner smooth muscle layer that allows for the expansion of the vessels and minimize resistance by reducing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Music express musicians feelings through sound, it will create images in the mind of the viewer for them to have a variety of feelings, and to elicit in the viewer emotional resonance. When reading though Crusade literature to gain insight into this important time in history, both the Christian and Muslim perspective accounts, it is easy to overlook the role that women played in the Crusades; however, if one looks deep enough into the labyrinth of history, he or she will discover the footprints left behind by the women of the crusades.... As the examples of women that Jonathan Riley Smith listed, this task proved to require great skill and dedication on the part of the women (1998, p. 98 99), and often times, as evidenced by the English legal records of that time, women had to take legal action in order defend these estates and sometimes lost their lives (as cited in Tyerman 208 217). Clearly, the role that women played on the home front was necessary and challenging. Women on the Battlefront The second category of roles that women played in the crusades are those which occurred on the battlefield; the roles that this encompasses is not intended to be limited to actual fighting, but instead to refer to all the roles that those women who came with the crusader army to the East filled. Weight percentages ranging from 0.0225 to 0.15 wt% of the pristine CVD grown [50] MWCNTs (diameter 5 10 nm, length a few microns) were first dispersed in ethanol in an ultrasonic bath at room temperature for 1 h. The solution was then mixed with the resin and stirred for 1 h at 2000 rpm at 80В°C. Ethanol was evaporated in a vacuum oven at 80В°C for 1 h, and the mixtures were stirred again for 1 h at 2000 rpm. After adding the hardener, the mixtures were stirred at 2000 rpm for 15 min. The resulting epoxy nanocomposite was hardened in a vacuum oven at 140В°C for 8 h. Composite sample containing 0.025% of CNTs in the epoxy resin show a remarkable improvement in the dispersion of CNTs in the epoxy resin due to ultrasound exposure. At these lower filler fractions, neither the processing behaviour (viscosity) of the matrix nor the surface finish of the samples was adversely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But the next day he would hate her guts again because she had once again angered him in some way which usually was again reinforcing her true intentions with him. This really shows that one effect of this relationship was something of a bipolar personality. He also revealed that during their time together she was nothing but a spell to him and he in words that shouldn t be recorded expressed his newfound hate for her. He began to rant about how he really loved her and all that she did was give him false hope over and over only to say that were friends. He explained a lot of his times with her and I too can confirm that some of the things they did like something of romantic intercourse and handholding along with kissing could certainly portray a completely different agenda. This he said caused him to now be cursed with false expectations even when someone new may have those ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Day and Night through a Mother s Eyes Essay In Alice Walker s Everyday Use the reader is introduced to three main characters, a mother and her two daughters. The first daughter, Maggie, still lives at home with her mother and is her companion. Dee, however, moves on with life and goes out to make something of herself in the world. The story is an account of one of Dee s visits, but the narrator, the mother, makes a very obvious comparison between Dee and Maggie s looks, intelligence, behaviorism, and values. The reader has a lesson to learn since the story is told through the mother s eyes. It is amazing that two siblings can grow up in the same environment and turned out so differently. Dee and Maggie are like day and night, each with her own strengths and weaknesses.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although she is jealous of her sister, Maggie more admires her than anything. It is, however, upsetting that the narrator never suggests Dee has any admiration or respect for Maggie or herself, for that matter. The story never even suggests that Dee feels sorry for Maggie, instead it can be interpreted that Dee just looks down on her sister, as she does the rest of her family. The reader can also learn about the girls from how they treat others. Just like everything else, they are opposites. Dee would always look anyone in the eye. Hesitation was no part of her nature (92) while Maggie walks chin on chest, eyes on ground, feet in shuffle (94). Mama also knows that while her sister is there Maggie will be nervous and stand hopelessly in corners, homely and ashamed of the burns scars down her arms and legs (92). While Maggie has always felt inferior, Dee seems haughty and kind of has a superiority complex. Dee is also implied to be manipulative. Dee would read to her mother and Maggie knowing it was literature beyond their comprehension just so she could show off. She used to read to us without pit; forcing words, lies, other folks habits, whole lives upon us two. She washed us in a river of make believe, burned us with a lot of knowledge we didn t necessarily need to know (94). The phrase She read to them is repeated when talking about Dee around her friends and boys that wanted to date her (95). However, in this context, it is hardly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
