Analysis Of Joe Hill s Preacher Of The Slave
Preacher Casey s new purpose mirrors a historical idol from the same time period, Joe Hill. Joe Hill
was a leader of the IWW during the 1900s. Like Casey, Hill believed in striking against businesses
and led his own strikes including the Lawrence strike in 1912 and Paterson strike in 1913. Joe Hill
used songs to communicate his ideas including the preacher of the slave . In the song, Hill shows
preachers as corrupted and argues against the existence of heaven, convincing his audience that they
should focus on improving conditions they face today instead of looking for heaven for relief.
Similarly, Casey said, I wouldn t pray just for a old man that s dead, cause he s all right. If I was to
pray, I d pray for folks that s alive and don t know which way to turn , mirroring Hill s views that the
union must focus on the current conditions that mankind faces instead of looking towards death for
hope. Casey is connected to the song in a metaphorical way as he too became an advocate of justice
for workers thus becoming a metaphorical preacher of the slave in a positive way, unlike the negative
light Hill shined religious preachers in. Additionally, both of these men argued for justice, equality,
and socialism over religion. Furthermore, Joe Hill was arrested for a crime he did not commit and was
executed by the state of Utah. Similarly, Casey is caught conspiring and was beaten to death by
Pinkerton guards who acted as the police force at the time. Hill and Casey both became martyrs of
their causes, Hill inspiring the followers of the IWW and Casey inspiring his own followers, causing
the transformation of Tom Joad. In the beginning, Tom Joad s focus is the survival of himself and his
family. Tom returns from penitentiary wanting to reconnect with his family while on parole. Once
Tom is reunited with his family his focus is protecting his family. Although he does not feel as lost as
Casey, Tom too is searching for a purpose. Early on, Tom expresses some discontent with the
government because he was jailed for killing a man out of self defense. Later, after the death of
Grandpa, Tom says, seems like the government s got more interest in a dead man than a live one while
he places a note over grandpa s grave

How Does Gruwell Show Courage
Hidden Gems
How often do you see a white teacher transform a class full of recalcitrant students from different
races and backgrounds to a class full of great individuals? That is what happened in the movie
Freedom Writers. Erin Gruwell is the white teacher and the students are class 203 of Woodrow Wilson
High School. At the beginning, class 203 is just a bunch of people who hate learning and have no
future. However, it all changes since the presence of Erin Gruwell. She approaches this unteachable
class and starts to develop their emotional intelligence. From students who like to neglect the lesson,
refuse listening to the teacher, and do not care about each other, they start to show changes in their
learning skill. Ultimately, two of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But at the start of the movie, the students, notably Marcus and Eva show no enthusiasm nor
compassion in anything and anyone. Nevertheless, the first empathy is shown when the students come
to visit the Holocaust Museum. They are stunned by how they have so much better situation than the
Holocaust survivors. From that moment, Marcus and Eva start to develop their empathy skill. There is
a scene where a guy named Miguel comes up to the middle of the class and starts to read his journal.
Miguel shares his struggle about his early life and how he is now happy that he has found a new home,
class 203. And then, Marcus, a guy who seems very quiet and tough, approaches him and gives him
his empathy. He shakes his hand, hugs him, and even sheds tears, showing that he empathizes for
Miguel.. That scene warms me and I feel empathy for Miguel as well. A similar situation of empathy
is also being displayed by Eva when she chooses to defend the truth by telling the court that Paco, her
boyfriend is the one who killed the guy in the store instead of the black guy. By saying the truth, she
betrays her own people but she does the right and that shows how she has changed and developed her
empathy. According to Paul Wong s article about empathy he notes that ... individuals are more likely
to be empathic to others, when they have experienced many hardships and are well acquainted with
sorrows and sufferings. This is what I see in the movie, Marcus and Eva realize that they all came
from the same background; that they must fight for their lives, dignity, and existence. Thus, both
Marcus and Eva develop what Wong would call the experiential empathy which is a type of empathy
that is developed when one has experienced other s difficulties. Eventually, Marcus and Eva start to
have an appreciation for Miss Gruwell as a teacher and have empathy toward one another that elevates

Yes Chef Marcus Samuelsson
In the memoir Yes Chef the author talked about his life from the begging up to now. Marcus
Samuelsson was born in Ethiopia, and he used to live in rural area with his older sister and mother. His
family was affected by tuberculosis, but his sister and he were survived. Since his mother was dead in
tuberculosis, Marcus and his sister were adopted by a Swedish family. His sister and he grew up as a
black Swedish children. Because of their skin color Marcus faced a lot of challenges; however he was
a though man, and he did not give up for challenges. He started his career as a soccer player because
since he was a child, he had been passionate with soccer; however, he did not achieve his dream
because he was physically too small, he was rejected ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The book shows how many adopted children feels when they are grown up in different culture with
different race. Many children are adopted, but some of them are glad to be adopted while others do
not. Like Marcus, many adopted children go back to their country to find their biological parents
while some do not even want to know about their origin. The book also express the pain of black
people in the white community. Many people have faced several challenges because of their skin color
some even bullied like Marcus, and he mentioned the challenges he faced because of his skin color.
Moreover there are also some important lessons to become a successful person. Marcus scarified a lot
of things to become a famous chef. For example, he did not visit his daughter and his ex girlfriend
because he wanted to focus on his career and he was committed. The book also shows people should
learn from their failures, and the author wrote about his failures; however he never gave up for
challenges. On the other hand, the memoir also has some drawbacks. It seems boring for readers
because the author mainly talks about food. However, I recommend the book for many people because
it has some interesting

Analysis Of The Book Severus Snape
1: Character of Severus Snape
Severus Snape is shown to be a person who is not just a strict teacher but also cold towards most
people. As the story evolves, we learn Snape s story and the side he actually is on. Professor Severus
Snape (9 January, 1960 2 May, 1998) was a half blood wizard who was the son of the witch Eileen
Snape and Muggle Tobias Snape. Severus was made a member of the Slug Club, presumably because
of his brilliance at potion making, and Horace Slughorn kept a picture of him as a student, clutching
his copy of Advanced Potion Making. Despite this, Horace did not have many hopes for Severus s
future, as his photograph was kept behind many others. Shortly before Lily Evans was murdered by
Lord Voldemort, Snape changed sides and became a member of the Order of the Phoenix and double
agent during the Second Wizarding War. With tremendous difficulty, Snape prevented Lord Voldemort
from learning the truth about his loyalties. Despite the opinions of most others including Harry during
his early life, Albus Dumbledore trusted Snape for reasons that were kept between them both until
their deaths. When he died, it was revealed that his deep strong love for Lily Evans caused him to
redeem himself, joining Dumbledore s cause at the prospect of her protection (and, after her death,
that of her son) from Lord Voldemort. verus Potter in honour of him.

What Are The Reasons For The War Of 1812 Dbq
The war of 1812 appeared to be one of the most controversial wars in the history of the United States.
Among the reasons that are used to explain it one can identify Britain s disrespect of American rights,
the trade interference, and impressment of seamen. However, the cause of this war is still disputed.
One of the reasons for the war was the Washington administration s Embargo of 1794 when the
Congress declared a thirty day embargo on all ships and vessels in American ports (Volume 15). Thus,
the British lost a substantial amount of profit. Besides, the reasons for the war include, for example,
the wish of the Great Britain to use the Indian people as a means of gaining more territories which led
to the Shawnee tribe opposing the Americans

Civic-Sclerosis Essay
That citizen sinks further into apathy, anonymity, and depersonalization. The result is that he comes to
depend on public authority and a state of civic sclerosis sets in (Alinsky, 1971). This statement
perfectly describes what is happening to the people today. People are no longer concerned with what is
happening around them. The world today is living in an individualization phase where there are more
people who know more stuff about the celebrities, latest fashion and gadgets, rich lifestyle, etc. rather
than the continuous welfare problems. Because the world has reached the technology era, people are
blind and deaf to the oppression that is happening. In this world full of complex networks of problems,
where should the people start? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After dropping out from graduate school, he spent his life in community organizing. He was an
organizer in the Congress of Industrial Organizations and more active in the Back of the Yards where
the poor people in Chicago are residing. Also, he organized the community of African American
ghettos in the same state. Also, he did not just focus in Chicago but travelled further in California,
Michigan, New York, etc. Because of his passion in helping the oppressed people in the community,
he was considered as the Father of Community Organizing. On 1972, Saul Alinsky died by a sudden
heart attack in Carmel, California. In an interview by Playboy Magazine a few months before his
death, he said that he would choose to be in Hell in because he would organize the Have Nots who are
less virtuous in there, his kind of people. In the society today, radical is associated with an extremist or
leftist, terrorist, and etc. A radical person is someone who disrupts the stability and peace in the
society. In relation with the book, I cannot understand before on why Alinsky should use a community
organizer as a personification of a radical person. A radical is somewhat negative to be used as a
community organizer. It is like community organizer is peace while radical is disorder. However, as I
was reading the book, I realized that a community organizer should be a radical. In the situation today,
we just don t need a person who just organizes a

The Ethical Concerns Involving Tobacco
The main ethical concerns involving tobacco is well known to educated Americans; however, the
ethics around the marketing aspects of tobacco, especially tobacco exposure to children, are less
talked about. Some of the early marketing decisions of tobacco can be traced back to one of the most
renowned and valuable cigarette brands in the world, Marlboro. Marlboro first emerged onto the
tobacco scene at the beginning of the nineteenth century. They originally were a cigarette brand with a
female based target market. Marlboros were considered feminine cigarettes because they had filters,
which were very unpopular for men at the time because the purpose of the filter was to protect a
woman s lipstick so that the tobacco leaves would never actually make contact with the mouth or lips.
In the 1950s a scientific study came out that linked smoking to lung cancer, and that is where the
ethical problems begin with tobacco companies. The ethical health concerns of ciggerrets were not the
only issue. Marketing right after the release of detrimental research, companies like Marlboro became
manipulative and misleading with their advertising. Advertising that also was used to target children
and establish lifetime customers. Now, in the twenty first century, the E cigarettes and other new
technology products have creates new aspects to the ethical dilemmas involving cigarettes. The ethical
dilemma of smoking, health concerns, children, and technology, will all be assessed to establish the

Ibis Hotels Business Report Essay
IBIS Hotel Report
Ibis, the popular economy hotel chain, opened its first hotel in 1974, in the French town of Bordeaux.
Since then, the company has expanded globally, reaching 40 countries worldwide, opening over 800
hotels. The majority of chains have been established in France, while the UK hosts over 50 chains,
with further four hotel openings expected in December 2009. Recently, the chain has introduced a
strategy to promote the chain s drive for greater and greener customer comfort . (Mintel 2009)
The Company
The chain is owned by the French firm Accor , a global corporation operating in the travel and tourism
industry. Accor leads a number of brands, with Ibis falling under its Accor Hospitality sector. As a two

Their market position also suggests that Ibis caters for those with a mid budget (Mintel 2009), and
those looking for extra services such as internet connection and food catering.
Secondary research shows us that Ibis has a fairly respectable reputation in the UK, serving as a low
profile hotel chain. A study found that over 60% of customers thought their experience was either
excellent or good, with around 6 8% finding their experience either poor or unsatisfactory (Mintel
2009). Moreover, further research shows that Ibis shares a similar correlation to the average budget
hotel, scoring slightly under par with regards to friendliness. The hotel suffers from a lack of stand out
feature, as the Mintel Budget Hotels UK August 2009 report points out, Ibis ... has no particular brand
identity of its own (Mintel 2009).
Another interesting consumer attitude is the general opinion towards Ibis s environmental stance. A
July 2009 survey discovered that only a small percentage (around 5%) thought Ibis cares for the
environment, however, as previously mentioned, Ibis launched a new initiative in January 2009,
driving towards greater and greener customer comfort (Mintel 2009), on top of this, Ibis s impressive

Platon Antoniou
The photographer Platon Antoniou has many great works to his name, but some more interesting work
is how he captures raw emotion in face portraits of world leaders. Platon made the statement that the
world leaders are presented with a shroud of branding and propaganda (Platon: Photography). The
point of the portraits was to get up close with these leaders and show their personal and emotional side
through photographs (Platon: Photography). The two portraits that do this the best and show a contrast
of emotion are Muammar Gaddafi and George W. Bush. In Muammar Gaddafi s picture, Gaddafi
gives off an intimidating and menacing feeling. His eyes look almost lifeless and are staring down the
camera as if he is ready to start or take on a fight. Platon describes Gaddafi s eyes as having nothing to
them and seeming as if his soul had been taken (Witty). The left side of his lip is curling and his
nostrils are completely flared showing that he could be angry and agitated by something. Despite all
the agitation in his face, Gaddafi almost looks to be calm as if he is ready for anything that is going to
come his way. Platon says that in his view Gaddafi looked to be challenging America, which is a
reasonable assumption as during Gaddafi s tenure ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bush is seen with a big smile showing possible happiness and excitement about what is happening and
coming in his life. His eyes are looking at the camera with endearment and an inviting look that he is
open to others. His lips have no curling and his nostrils are not flared so there seems to be no
animosity and he only has a calm and joyful presence. Bush s face in this portrait is a good
representation of his overall happy and upbeat personality that most people are used to seeing.
Through photography, Platon Antoniou is able to show the personal and emotional side of world
leaders who are otherwise seen as some sort of monolithic structure in

Explain Why Kids Should Get Paid To Do Chores Around The Home
In my opinion I don t think kids should get paid to do chores around the house. When you do little
things like laundry, or cleaning your room, or swiping I think you should just do it. The reason why
you should just do it is because it is a favor your parents have asked you for. Help your parents out
they already have to deal with you,and if you have any animals or siblings they have to deal with
them. Just take my advice I have to do chores but I suck it up and don t ask for money like some
people do. Just take the fact that you are old enough to have responsibility and old enough to do it.

Compare And Contrast Romeo And Juliet And The Capulets
Most of everyone knows the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. If you have ever read it
then you know how it ends, or if you have ever heard about it you know how it ends. What I want to
know is why? Why the two forbidden star crossed lovers took their own lives, but there is no answer
for that. There is also no answer as to why the two families, The Montagues and The Capulets could
not get along. It took the tragedy that had occurred for them to become civil with each other. In my
essay I will be discussing how the two star crossed lovers got along with their parents and if they were
rebellious in the modern sense. Along with how their parents felt about them.
If you have read the play, then you already know that Romeo s parents ... Show more content on

Lady Capulet, (Juliet s mother) tries to keep Juliet out of trouble and tabs on her. Capulet (Juliet s
father) would do the same. He did do the same. For Juliet keeping from her parents that her and
Romeo are together, she could get killed. Her parents could have killed her. Her father and mother
would have the right to do that because she lied to them and it s like a disgrace to the family. But don t
get me wrong, the Capulets loved Juliet very much and care about her a lot too. A part in the play
where it shows how much they care for her is Scene 5, act 3. Lady Capulet comforts Juliet after she
found out about Tybalt s death. She says, Evermore weeping for your cousin s death? What, wilt thou
wash him from his grave with tears? An if thou couldst, thou couldst not make him live. Therefore
have done. Some grief shows still and some want of wilt. Juliet responded with, Yet let me weep for
such a feeling loss. Lady Capulet said, So shall you feel the loss, but not the friend which you weep
for. To me Lady Capulet was comforting Juliet by saying it s okay to cry a little to show love, but not a
lot, that shows a lack of good sense. A place where Capulet says something to Juliet about caring is
Scene 2, act 1. Capulet says, But saying o er what I have said before; my child is yet a stranger in the
world, she hath not seen the change of fourteen; let two more summers with her in their pride ere we
may think her ripe to be a bride. Even though it s about her wedding, (like everything her father says
is) he says he wants her to mature before she gets married and that s a good thing. He cares and wants
her to understand even though she doesn t. But her parents, they care about her and love her. Yes, she
is rebellious in the modern sense because she sneaks around to see Romeo and marries him without

Persuasive Essay About Plastic Pollution
Throughout our entire planet, humans have made their mark of existence in innumerable beautiful and
substantial ways; however, there are numberless ways that humans have put our planet, and the life
living on it, in danger. Pollution is a problem that cannot easily be solved by one person; nonetheless,
if more people would accomplish the meager changes necessary to lessen this problem, the plastic
pollution on our planet could decrease greatly. Plastic pollution is slowly killing and disrupting our
planet and the animals living on it; however, with a few changes to our everyday lives, we can help
save the world.
Every year, more than 300 million tons of plastic are made, this poses as a threat when you take into
account how much of this plastic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first step that we must take is to start changing the way the plastic producers create their products.
Nearly all single use plastic factories around the world do not take responsibility for their product
being part of the issue, this mindset, however, ought to be the first thing we shall abandon. Once these
manufacturers take responsibility, they must design a more environmentally friendly plastic that can
be recycled or reused easier. Another solution to this problem would be taxing or billing the
manufacturers of these harmful plastics; by calculating how much harmful chemicals are created by
each plastic manufacturer, you could create a specific percentage to tax each factory for their products.
By taxing these plastic manufacturers, it will form the idea of creating a more environmentally
friendly formula for their plastics much more desirable than before. If the plastic companies were to
adjust to these changes, we would be taking an extensive step toward creating a better, more clean,

Intervention In The Restaurant Review
The intervener is the author and publisher of the restaurant review (D Magazine) and the intervention
is the restaurant review itself which attempted to promote the author s negative interpretation of her
dining experience. Hill Agnus s review reveals discrepancy between her actual restaurant experience
and her expectancies. The dominant name proposed by the intervener can be described as a failed
ambitious attempt. The author asserts the restaurant s level of ambition at the beginning of the review
and dismantles their attempts by emphasizing how the restaurant falls short of the author s
expectations. The author compensates for the deviances that anomalies have created by negatively
recategorizing the attributes of her experience, to suggest avoidance behavior. I used the intervention
of attention as entry point for analyzing the original restaurant review because this subsystem
emphasizes the communication patterns used by the author to compensate for the incompleteness of
the interpretative categories assigned to the restaurant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author uses tactics of threat, exchange, and integry to encourage the acceptance of her
interpretation of experience. Through a threat tactic, more power is distributed to the customers of the
restaurant because they directly contribute to the restaurant s income and hold the potential to
persuade other customers. A power shift in hierarchy is created through the exchange motivation the
author alludes to when she suggests that employees provide services for customers in exchange for
payment. By drawing attention to the fact that customers pay in response to service and can impact the
opinions of potential customers, the tactic of integry is utilized by distributing equal power to
customers and the food critic. The entry subsystem of attention challenges power roles among system
components and increases awareness to non needs meeting

Worldcom Case Summary
I learned some new things from the case article that were not mentioned in Cynthia Cooper s book
titled Extraordinary Circumstances. However, the gist of it was the same. I will focus my paragraphs
based on the three questions.
What are the pressures that lead executives and managers to cook the books? There are several factors
that can come into play. For WorldCom, it started with the deterioration of the industry in 2000. This
was due to overcapacity, heightened competition, the economic recession, the dot com bubble
collapse, and a reduced demand for telecommunications services. All of these factors put extra
pressure on WorldCom s most important performance indicator, the expense to revenue ratio. The
company was so concerned about keeping it above 42% that they were willing to do anything, even
commit fraud. Bernie Ebbers told the senior staff that they would lose everything if the company did
not improve its performance.
This leads into my second pressure, which deals with personal lives. Employees were receiving
tremendous benefits due to the company s great performance. However, if the company did not
improve, people s salaries would be cut or even worse, their jobs would be cut. That is why so many
people were willing to engage in the fraud, because they felt WorldCom was supplying a salary and
benefits that other companies would not be able to match. Betty Vinson was a prime example. She
knew that releasing line accruals was wrong, but needed to

Environmental Concerns And Climate Change
Proposed Research
Environmental concerns and climate change are influencing and shaping the future of the power
industry. As a result, the electricity required to meet the growing demand is mainly generated from
renewable energy resources, and this trend is expected to continue in the next decades [1]. Hydro and
wind are major renewable energy resources and are free of greenhouse gas emissions [2]. This makes
them valuable environmentally sustainable and economic resources for power generation around the
world. A hydro wind hybrid power system is an excellent combination for improved reliability, where
the resources abound [3]. In Newfoundland and Labrador, there is enormous potential for hydro and
wind renewable energy resources, with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This condition imposes unique challenges on the planning and operation of a hydro wind integrated
power system in a reliable manner [8]. Previous studies on wind penetration issues and solutions
found that the limiting factors of wind integration include penetration level, forecasting reliability,
geographic diversity, hydro generation flexibility and control of the overall system [6]. Control is a
key enabling factor for the deployment of renewable energy systems [9]. Control techniques such as
linear and dynamic programming, genetic algorithms, and neural networks, proposed by past research,
for the control and economic dispatch of renewable energy systems, have not been acknowledged to
be error free [3]. Two major flaws identified in existing techniques include the lack of ease of use, and
adaptability to new situations and evolving regulations [3]. These flaws pose major operational
challenges to utilities and thus, make control technologies optimization an imperative research
endeavor.
In 1998, the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Policy 1 Generation Control

power systems. In this policy, for example, it is required that each balancing authority shall achieve, as

Rough Draft Process Analysis
When beginning to write an essay everyone has their own method of doing so. Some may like to
brainstorm while others may prefer to go straight into writing about their topic. I personally beginning
every essay by collecting ideas about my topic before coordinating them into a type of diagram, next I
proceed to do my rough draft before revising over the paper and finally composing my final draft. The
point of the writing process is to help break everything down so ideas can be organized and everything
can make perfect sense for not just the writer but also the reader.
Writing an essay can be difficult if a person does not know how or where to begin. I personally
believe the first step of writing is to list down ideas about the topic. After ... Show more content on

Proofreading and revising is a very crucial step in the writing process. If a person does not proofread
then the essay they worked on may not make sense and may overall confuse the reader. Using correct
punctuation shows how sentences are supposed to be read. Once I have made sure all my sentences
are grammatically correct I then compose my final copy of the essay. Writing can be difficult if not
done correctly. That is why there is a writing process to follow. Using some type of way to group ideas
together help coordinate how the essay will go. Then once the ideas are put together the rough draft
can be formed and edited. After everything has been writing accordantly the essay can then be turned
in. Some may think the writing process is just some more additional steps to getting their essay done

The Shot Boundary And Classification Of Digital Video Essay
Shot boundary and classification of digital video is most important step for effective management and

techniques for detecting transitions between shots are highly effective on abrupt transitions. But
finding gradual transition is major challenge in the presence of camera and object motion. In this

have made vast amounts of video data available to consumer and enterprise applications [1]. However,
interacting with multimedia data, and video in particular, requires more than connecting with data
banks and delivering data via networks to customers, homes or offices. We still have limited tools and
applications to describe, organize, and manage video data. The fundamental approach is to index
video data and make it a structured media. Manually generating video content description is time

DATA COLLECTION TECHNIQUES
Data collection techniques Data collection is a very essential aspect in all research studies. Normally,
inaccurate data collection methods tend to have a very big impact to the results of the study and this
eventually leads to invalid results. The data collection techniques in many cases vary along a
continuum, for instance at one end of the continuum are the quantitative methods and techniques
while of the other side are the qualitative techniques for data collection (Kuada, 2012). In both
qualitative and quantitative techniques, there are there are various methods used for data collection. In
qualitative research for instance, the various data collection techniques used include interviews,
observations, and focus group discussions among other techniques. In this case, however, the most
appropriate techniques especially in the qualitative research are focus group discussions and

Difference Between Moral Relativism And Moral Objectivism
Essay Assignment #1 Morality seeks to provide a moral agreement that binds the people in a society
by providing a blueprint of shared values that dictate what is right and wrong. The two principles of
morality are moral objectivism and moral relativism. The thesis of this essay is that moral relativism is
a better guide to morality as compared to moral objectivity as it puts things into perspective by
considering moral ideas and variables on a universal understanding.
Moral relativity cannot be completely ignored. As morality is a practical activity, relativity provides a
better moral scope compared to moral objectivism. Moral objectivism could be appropriate if the
current order of things in today s universe is obliterated or if people live as hermits that do not interact
with others.
Morals are relative to cultures and individuals. The same activity can have different moral values
depending on a particular society, culture or persons. For instance, many people in the Western world
consider killing to be bad. But are all instances of killing bad? Is it morally right to kill a killer? For
one with objectivism beliefs, all killings are bad versus one with relativism beliefs would say let us

creates values. Utilitarianism states that human beings choose actions that maximize their pleasure and

bring the greatest good and little or no harm to many people in the society Since values can only be
obtained through personal reasoning, they can provide able direction to the moral principle The fact
value problem arises when there is a difference between what is and what ought to be. Inconsistency

Ethics And Ethics In The Ideal Of Ethics
Within the ideal of ethics there are distinctive traits and morals one must possess in their professional
life. Integrity is the excellent qualities of character that are integral to an individual s entire life, (both
public and private). People of integrity do the right thing even when they think that no one is looking.
Honesty is being able to be creditable and trust worthy as an officer. Honest officers are essential and
their worth is beyond measure. Values are a measure of a person s standards or qualities. These values
can be described as Personal values, Organizational values, and Social Values. Standards are set
guidelines to establish a baseline as to what the officer should or should not do. Courage is
overcoming a person s fear to do the right thing, even if it s not the most accepted thing. Civility is
being respectful and polite to all citizens encountered by law enforcement. A devotion to these
building blocks provides a solid foundation towards a moral and ethical path in ones ... Show more

These choices can be broken down in several distinct areas. The choice made will affect others in
some way. Because of this, you need to think about what is the consequence. The second part deals
directly with the decision you make and if it could end up hurting others. Life decisions have both
good and bad outcomes. As a result, decisions need to be made with all the facts and determine what
the best conclusion would be under the circumstances. The third process takes into consideration the
adage, Do unto others as you would have them do unto you , which applies for the purposes of ethics
in society today. Think about the options and base your judgment on the outcome. The last part of
making an ethical decision relates to how others are going to respond to the resolution (Pollock,
2010). Any ethical decision has ramifications and people will have varying opinions on your actions

Film Analysis Of swallowtail Butterfly
In this paper, I ll mainly focus on movie Swallowtail Butterfly (1996) and discuss it from three
perspectives: its artistic filming style and techniques, passive kokusaika and it influenced by exotic
culture. Despite some similarities with other movies, Swallowtail Butterfly is trying to set itself apart
from convention by highlighting its unique artistic value and presenting unconventional perspective of
a trendy topic. If I regard the appreciation of Swallowtail Butterfly as an evolutionary process, the first
thing I realize might be its very artistic filming style. Shunji Iwai adopts some film techniques which
often appear in the movies of 6th generation directors. But unlike 6th generation directors who
constantly pursue realism in their movie, by the use of color, music and composition, Shunji Iwai
injects considerable artistic value into this movie and he makes use of the artistic value to achieve an
utopian vision of Yen Town. The artistic filming style and utopian vision of Yen Town There is a series

Viet Cong Tunnel Essay
To a large extent, the Viet Cong tunnel system did contribute to the defeat of the Americans during the
Vietnam War between 1965 and 1969. This was so because of the many problems that were facing the
US forces when fighting the war in Vietnam. It could be possible that one of the problems was the fact
that the Viet Cong were fighting using guerilla tactics. However, it led to a great lack of trust among
the Vietnamese and the Americans as it was difficult to distinguish between the real Vietnamese
civilians and the Viet Cong soldiers in disguise. This essay will aim to discuss the Viet Cong tunnel
system and how they contributed to the Americans defeat and we will have close reference to this
essay.
It all began when the Americans started carrying out the Search and Destroy Missions [Source C] as
the US lost the hearts and the minds of the Vietnamese people through these missions. However, the
terrain had made life more difficult for the US forces as there was a deal of Vietnam that was covered
in the jungle, swamp and also paddy fields. Guerilla tactics were used by the Viet Cong against the
Americans [Source G] and they were on a small scale taking irregular actions. This therefore, proved
to be effective against the Americans because it was very demoralizing for them as they could not

Such as the Magna Carta, this had placed limits on the power of the British monarch. England s
Parliament emerged as a force that the king had to depend on to pay for wars and to finance the royal
government. Like the Parliament, the assemblies that developed in the Thirteen Colonies controlled
their colony s funds, and the assemblies had some control over colonial governors. The English Bill of
Rights of 1689 provided another important model for Americans and many thought that the
Constitution also needed a bill of rights. The thinkers and Framers also got many of their ideas from
the European writers of the Enlightenment. James Madison and other architects of the Constitution

Native Americans have inhabited this country for many generations. We see so many things that are

When we look at art through the eyes of the Native American we should see a functional and usable

The Disaster Of The Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster
Engineering Disaster Newton s third law of motion states that for every action there is an equal and
opposite reaction; this law is not only applied in our studies but in our daily lives. For engineers, this
is a law to live by; reminding each engineer that each of his/her actions will have an equal
consequence whether it is good or bad. Engineers are trusted and respected individuals who represent
not only themselves but the profession as a whole; their title gives them a great responsibility and a
reputation to carry. On rare occasions do engineers make mistakes that sometimes lead to disasters
that impact the lives of many. For every disaster that occurs as a result of an engineering mistake;
thousands of lessons are learned. One disaster that impacted the lives of many and was labelled as the
worst engineering disaster in history is the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. The chain of events that lead to
this disaster where taken as lessons and used to write many of today s engineering codes of ethics, and
improve safety regulations in various industries.
On the morning of April 26th 1986 the world experienced the worst nuclear and engineering disaster

A study of a United States population found that individuals who had high levels of sun exposure were
about 1.5 times more likely to develop cortical or posterior subcapsular cataracts than those who had
low sun exposure, while those with moderate sun exposure were about 1.2 times more likely to
develop each of these types of cataracts. * Pterygium: Pterygium is characterised by a fleshy growth
on the eye s surface. The WHO estimates that 4070% of the global burden from this disease is
attributable to sun exposure. A study conducted in Victoria reported that 43.6% of pterygium cases
were attributable to sun exposure. * Age related macular degeneration: Based on laboratory studies
showing thatUV rays cause retinal damage in rats, scientists believe that exposure to UV rays
contributes to the degeneration of eyesight which occurs naturally with ageing.
How UVR Impacts the Eye
The various tissue layers of the eye absorb the wavebands of UVR to different extents. The longer the
wavelength, the deeper the penetration of ocular tissue. Of the radiation from sunlight, UV B has the
greatest impact on the eye. Overexposure can result in photokeratitis or, in rare cases, solar
maculopathy. Studies show that chronic exposure to UV B can also cause cortical cataracts. UV A is
considered a greater threat to produce skin cancer than damage the eye.
While the ozone layer filters UV C from the sun, a welder s arc can generate toxic dosages of this
potent waveband.

The Rebirth Of Ancient Cultures

25 November 2015
The Rebirth of Ancient Cultures in Renaissance Florence Florence, Italy is known as the cradle of the
Renaissance (la culla del Rinascimento). It is a city full of beautiful architecture, art, and history. The
Renaissance was a powerful cultural movement that not only shaped all aspects of Florentine life, but
eventually the rest of Europe. Science, art, literature, philosophy, religion, architecture, and politics
have seen heavy influences by this movement. The term Renaissance literally means rebirth : the
rebirth of man and the rebirth of two important ancient cultures, Greek and Roman, which had been
lost with the beginning of the Middle Ages in Western history. Florence was very prosperous during
the late Middle Ages, next to Venice and Milan. It was the birthplace of many important thinkers,
artists, architects, and political figures who led the Renaissance. Along with the birth of the
philosophy of humanism, the rebirth of ancient Greek and Roman cultures were driven by a revived
interest in ancient thought, the advances in literature, the emphasis of human based ideals in the arts,
and the influence of the papacy and the Holy Roman Empire upon the Florentine government. Italian
thinkers had an interest in the ways that ancient Greeks and Romans thought, a driving force of the
Renaissance. It was the Florentines who first set out to rediscover the glorious past of these cultures.

The Treatment of Wastewater with Microalgae Essay

Microalgae have a great potential to solve energy and environmental challenges around the world.
Wastewater treatment with microalgae is a more environmental sound approach to reduce nitrogen and
phosphorus and to remove heavy metals from wastewater. Microalgae can absorb significant amount
of nutrients because they need large amounts of nitrogen and phosphorus for proteins (45 60%
microalgae dry weight) and metals as micronutrients for their growth. William Oswald first developed
the idea of treating wastewater using microalgae and performed photosynthesis in sewage treatment

2.2.1 Nitrogen
Organic nitrogen is the key element in biological substances like enzymes, peptides, proteins,
chlorophylls and energy transfer molecules such as ADP (Adenosine diphosphate) and ATP
(Adenosine 5 triphosphate) [33]. Organic nitrogen is derived from inorganic sources including nitrite
(NO2 ), nitrate (NO3 ), nitric acid (HNO3), ammonia (NH3), ammonium (NH4+), and nitrogen gas
(N2). Microalgae has an ability to convert inorganic nitrogen be only in the forms of nitrite, nitrate
and ammonium to organic nitrogen through a process called assimilation. Only eukaryotic algae can
perform assimilation [32]. Figure 2.2 describes the assimilation process of inorganic nitrogen. As
shown in the figure 2.2, translocation of inorganic nitrogen takes place across the plasma membrane
where reduction of nitrate takes place followed by the incorporation of ammonium into amino acids
and glutamine. Initially nitrate is reduced to nitrite by a NADH dependent nitrate reductase and the
nitrite reduced to ammonium by NADPH linked nitrite reductase present within the algae. The
resulting ammonium is assimilated to form amino acids by glutamine and glutamate synthase within
the intracellular fluid using adenosine triphosphate (ATP), glutamate (Glu) and glutamine synthase.
Thus, all inorganic forms of nitrogen are finally reduced to organic form (amino acids) [32]. Figure

partnership Nokia and Microsoft set about establishing an alternative ecosystem to rival iOS and
Android. In 2011, Nokia made number of changes to its operations and company culture in the course

Similarities Between Halloween And Day Of The Dead
Halloween is a fun, worldwide holiday. Today, Halloween, for children, is going out onto the streets
and roaming from house to house asking for, mainly, candy. For adults, Halloween could mean parties,
or handing out things to the children, or spending time with family. A similar holiday to Halloween,
Day of the Dead. Day of the Dead is mainly limited to hispanic culture, however it has started to
spread in more recent years. During Day of the Dead families create altars to attract and guide loved
ones to their home, and the afterlife. Día de los Muertos consists of many community wide
celebrations, and parties. During Day of the Dead many people will dress up as skeletons and parade
the streets of their community. These holidays might ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The belief in the afterlife involved with this holiday is very similar to that of the mesoamericans. The
aztecs in particular had a month long celebration, very similar to that of Day of the Dead, in which
they honored and delivered offerings to the deceased. When the spaniards arrived they did a fair job of
popularizing their faith among the mesoamericans. The mesoamericans moved their month long
celebration of death to coincide with the catholic holidays of All Saints and All Souls(November 1st
and 2nd). Today, Day of the Dead is about celebrating death by creating altars carpeted with offerings
to the souls of loved ones. Today, an iconic symbol of Día de los Muertos is the skeleton, one of the
most significant skeleton characters is La Catrina. Day of the Dead is now picking up bits and pieces
of Halloween tradition. Children are now participating in pedir los muertos, or ask the dead, during
which children dress in costumes and meander, receiving candy as well as things from people s day of
the dead altars, in some places. Halloween has already spread worldwide, and been given many
cultural interpretations of what it represents, and how it should be celebrated. However, Día de los
Muertos has just recently started spreading farther outside of hispanic culture. Día de los Muertos is a
holiday celebrating death and the afterlife that death brings, as well as embracing the deceased as if
they are, in a way, gods. Whereas, Halloween s

  • 2. Analysis Of Joe Hill s Preacher Of The Slave Preacher Casey s new purpose mirrors a historical idol from the same time period, Joe Hill. Joe Hill was a leader of the IWW during the 1900s. Like Casey, Hill believed in striking against businesses and led his own strikes including the Lawrence strike in 1912 and Paterson strike in 1913. Joe Hill used songs to communicate his ideas including the preacher of the slave . In the song, Hill shows preachers as corrupted and argues against the existence of heaven, convincing his audience that they should focus on improving conditions they face today instead of looking for heaven for relief. Similarly, Casey said, I wouldn t pray just for a old man that s dead, cause he s all right. If I was to pray, I d pray for folks that s alive and don t know which way to turn , mirroring Hill s views that the union must focus on the current conditions that mankind faces instead of looking towards death for hope. Casey is connected to the song in a metaphorical way as he too became an advocate of justice for workers thus becoming a metaphorical preacher of the slave in a positive way, unlike the negative light Hill shined religious preachers in. Additionally, both of these men argued for justice, equality, and socialism over religion. Furthermore, Joe Hill was arrested for a crime he did not commit and was executed by the state of Utah. Similarly, Casey is caught conspiring and was beaten to death by Pinkerton guards who acted as the police force at the time. Hill and Casey both became martyrs of their causes, Hill inspiring the followers of the IWW and Casey inspiring his own followers, causing the transformation of Tom Joad. In the beginning, Tom Joad s focus is the survival of himself and his family. Tom returns from penitentiary wanting to reconnect with his family while on parole. Once Tom is reunited with his family his focus is protecting his family. Although he does not feel as lost as Casey, Tom too is searching for a purpose. Early on, Tom expresses some discontent with the government because he was jailed for killing a man out of self defense. Later, after the death of Grandpa, Tom says, seems like the government s got more interest in a dead man than a live one while he places a note over grandpa s grave ... • 3. How Does Gruwell Show Courage Hidden Gems How often do you see a white teacher transform a class full of recalcitrant students from different races and backgrounds to a class full of great individuals? That is what happened in the movie Freedom Writers. Erin Gruwell is the white teacher and the students are class 203 of Woodrow Wilson High School. At the beginning, class 203 is just a bunch of people who hate learning and have no future. However, it all changes since the presence of Erin Gruwell. She approaches this unteachable class and starts to develop their emotional intelligence. From students who like to neglect the lesson, refuse listening to the teacher, and do not care about each other, they start to show changes in their learning skill. Ultimately, two of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But at the start of the movie, the students, notably Marcus and Eva show no enthusiasm nor compassion in anything and anyone. Nevertheless, the first empathy is shown when the students come to visit the Holocaust Museum. They are stunned by how they have so much better situation than the Holocaust survivors. From that moment, Marcus and Eva start to develop their empathy skill. There is a scene where a guy named Miguel comes up to the middle of the class and starts to read his journal. Miguel shares his struggle about his early life and how he is now happy that he has found a new home, class 203. And then, Marcus, a guy who seems very quiet and tough, approaches him and gives him his empathy. He shakes his hand, hugs him, and even sheds tears, showing that he empathizes for Miguel.. That scene warms me and I feel empathy for Miguel as well. A similar situation of empathy is also being displayed by Eva when she chooses to defend the truth by telling the court that Paco, her boyfriend is the one who killed the guy in the store instead of the black guy. By saying the truth, she betrays her own people but she does the right and that shows how she has changed and developed her empathy. According to Paul Wong s article about empathy he notes that ... individuals are more likely to be empathic to others, when they have experienced many hardships and are well acquainted with sorrows and sufferings. This is what I see in the movie, Marcus and Eva realize that they all came from the same background; that they must fight for their lives, dignity, and existence. Thus, both Marcus and Eva develop what Wong would call the experiential empathy which is a type of empathy that is developed when one has experienced other s difficulties. Eventually, Marcus and Eva start to have an appreciation for Miss Gruwell as a teacher and have empathy toward one another that elevates the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Marcus Samuelsson was born in Ethiopia, and he used to live in rural area with his older sister and mother. His family was affected by tuberculosis, but his sister and he were survived. Since his mother was dead in tuberculosis, Marcus and his sister were adopted by a Swedish family. His sister and he grew up as a black Swedish children. Because of their skin color Marcus faced a lot of challenges; however he was a though man, and he did not give up for challenges. Many children are adopted, but some of them are glad to be adopted while others do not. The book also express the pain of black people in the white community. Many people have faced several challenges because of their skin color some even bullied like Marcus, and he mentioned the challenges he faced because of his skin color. Moreover there are also some important lessons to become a successful person. Marcus scarified a lot of things to become a famous chef. For example, he did not visit his daughter and his ex girlfriend because he wanted to focus on his career and he was committed. The book also shows people should learn from their failures, and the author wrote about his failures; however he never gave up for challenges. On the other hand, the memoir also has some drawbacks. It seems boring for readers because the author mainly talks about food. However, I recommend the book for many people because it has some interesting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Analysis Of The Book Severus Snape 1: Character of Severus Snape Severus Snape is shown to be a person who is not just a strict teacher but also cold towards most people. As the story evolves, we learn Snape s story and the side he actually is on. Professor Severus Snape (9 January, 1960 2 May, 1998) was a half blood wizard who was the son of the witch Eileen Snape and Muggle Tobias Snape. Severus was made a member of the Slug Club, presumably because of his brilliance at potion making, and Horace Slughorn kept a picture of him as a student, clutching his copy of Advanced Potion Making. Despite this, Horace did not have many hopes for Severus s future, as his photograph was kept behind many others. Shortly before Lily Evans was murdered by Lord Voldemort, Snape changed sides and became a member of the Order of the Phoenix and double agent during the Second Wizarding War. With tremendous difficulty, Snape prevented Lord Voldemort from learning the truth about his loyalties. Despite the opinions of most others including Harry during his early life, Albus Dumbledore trusted Snape for reasons that were kept between them both until their deaths. When he died, it was revealed that his deep strong love for Lily Evans caused him to redeem himself, joining Dumbledore s cause at the prospect of her protection (and, after her death, that of her son) from Lord Voldemort. verus Potter in honour of him. Among the reasons that are used to explain it one can identify Britain s disrespect of American rights, the trade interference, and impressment of seamen. However, the cause of this war is still disputed. One of the reasons for the war was the Washington administration s Embargo of 1794 when the Congress declared a thirty day embargo on all ships and vessels in American ports (Volume 15). Thus, the British lost a substantial amount of profit. Besides, the reasons for the war include, for example, the wish of the Great Britain to use the Indian people as a means of gaining more territories which led to the Shawnee tribe opposing the Americans ... The result is that he comes to depend on public authority and a state of civic sclerosis sets in (Alinsky, 1971). This statement perfectly describes what is happening to the people today. People are no longer concerned with what is happening around them. The world today is living in an individualization phase where there are more people who know more stuff about the celebrities, latest fashion and gadgets, rich lifestyle, etc. rather than the continuous welfare problems. Because the world has reached the technology era, people are blind and deaf to the oppression that is happening. In this world full of complex networks of problems, where should the people start? ... • 8. The Ethical Concerns Involving Tobacco The main ethical concerns involving tobacco is well known to educated Americans; however, the ethics around the marketing aspects of tobacco, especially tobacco exposure to children, are less talked about. Some of the early marketing decisions of tobacco can be traced back to one of the most renowned and valuable cigarette brands in the world, Marlboro. Marlboro first emerged onto the tobacco scene at the beginning of the nineteenth century. They originally were a cigarette brand with a female based target market. Marlboros were considered feminine cigarettes because they had filters, which were very unpopular for men at the time because the purpose of the filter was to protect a woman s lipstick so that the tobacco leaves would never actually make contact with the mouth or lips. In the 1950s a scientific study came out that linked smoking to lung cancer, and that is where the ethical problems begin with tobacco companies. The ethical health concerns of ciggerrets were not the only issue. Marketing right after the release of detrimental research, companies like Marlboro became manipulative and misleading with their advertising. Advertising that also was used to target children and establish lifetime customers. • 10. Platon Antoniou The photographer Platon Antoniou has many great works to his name, but some more interesting work is how he captures raw emotion in face portraits of world leaders. Platon made the statement that the world leaders are presented with a shroud of branding and propaganda (Platon: Photography). The point of the portraits was to get up close with these leaders and show their personal and emotional side through photographs (Platon: Photography). The two portraits that do this the best and show a contrast of emotion are Muammar Gaddafi and George W. Bush. In Muammar Gaddafi s picture, Gaddafi gives off an intimidating and menacing feeling. His eyes look almost lifeless and are staring down the camera as if he is ready to start or take on a fight. Platon describes Gaddafi s eyes as having nothing to them and seeming as if his soul had been taken (Witty). The left side of his lip is curling and his nostrils are completely flared showing that he could be angry and agitated by something. Despite all the agitation in his face, Gaddafi almost looks to be calm as if he is ready for anything that is going to come his way. Help your parents out they already have to deal with you,and if you have any animals or siblings they have to deal with them. Just take my advice I have to do chores but I suck it up and don t ask for money like some people do. Just take the fact that you are old enough to have responsibility and old enough to do it. If you have ever read it then you know how it ends, or if you have ever heard about it you know how it ends. What I want to know is why? Why the two forbidden star crossed lovers took their own lives, but there is no answer for that. There is also no answer as to why the two families, The Montagues and The Capulets could not get along. It took the tragedy that had occurred for them to become civil with each other. In my essay I will be discussing how the two star crossed lovers got along with their parents and if they were rebellious in the modern sense. Along with how their parents felt about them. Her father and mother would have the right to do that because she lied to them and it s like a disgrace to the family. But don t get me wrong, the Capulets loved Juliet very much and care about her a lot too. A part in the play where it shows how much they care for her is Scene 5, act 3. Lady Capulet comforts Juliet after she found out about Tybalt s death. She says, Evermore weeping for your cousin s death? What, wilt thou wash him from his grave with tears? An if thou couldst, thou couldst not make him live. Therefore have done. Some grief shows still and some want of wilt. Juliet responded with, Yet let me weep for such a feeling loss. Lady Capulet said, So shall you feel the loss, but not the friend which you weep for. To me Lady Capulet was comforting Juliet by saying it s okay to cry a little to show love, but not a lot, that shows a lack of good sense. A place where Capulet says something to Juliet about caring is Scene 2, act 1. Capulet says, But saying o er what I have said before; my child is yet a stranger in the world, she hath not seen the change of fourteen; let two more summers with her in their pride ere we may think her ripe to be a bride. Even though it s about her wedding, (like everything her father says is) he says he wants her to mature before she gets married and that s a good thing. Plastic pollution is slowly killing and disrupting our planet and the animals living on it; however, with a few changes to our everyday lives, we can help save the world. Once these manufacturers take responsibility, they must design a more environmentally friendly plastic that can be recycled or reused easier. Another solution to this problem would be taxing or billing the manufacturers of these harmful plastics; by calculating how much harmful chemicals are created by each plastic manufacturer, you could create a specific percentage to tax each factory for their products. Intervention In The Restaurant Review The intervener is the author and publisher of the restaurant review (D Magazine) and the intervention is the restaurant review itself which attempted to promote the author s negative interpretation of her dining experience. Hill Agnus s review reveals discrepancy between her actual restaurant experience and her expectancies. The dominant name proposed by the intervener can be described as a failed ambitious attempt. The author asserts the restaurant s level of ambition at the beginning of the review and dismantles their attempts by emphasizing how the restaurant falls short of the author s expectations. The author compensates for the deviances that anomalies have created by negatively recategorizing the attributes of her experience, to suggest avoidance behavior. • 15. Worldcom Case Summary I learned some new things from the case article that were not mentioned in Cynthia Cooper s book titled Extraordinary Circumstances. However, the gist of it was the same. I will focus my paragraphs based on the three questions. What are the pressures that lead executives and managers to cook the books? There are several factors that can come into play. For WorldCom, it started with the deterioration of the industry in 2000. This was due to overcapacity, heightened competition, the economic recession, the dot com bubble collapse, and a reduced demand for telecommunications services. All of these factors put extra pressure on WorldCom s most important performance indicator, the expense to revenue ratio. The company was so concerned about keeping it above 42% that they were willing to do anything, even commit fraud. Bernie Ebbers told the senior staff that they would lose everything if the company did not improve its performance. This leads into my second pressure, which deals with personal lives. Employees were receiving tremendous benefits due to the company s great performance. However, if the company did not improve, people s salaries would be cut or even worse, their jobs would be cut. That is why so many people were willing to engage in the fraud, because they felt WorldCom was supplying a salary and benefits that other companies would not be able to match. Betty Vinson was a prime example. She knew that releasing line accruals was wrong, but needed to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As a result, the electricity required to meet the growing demand is mainly generated from renewable energy resources, and this trend is expected to continue in the next decades [1]. Hydro and wind are major renewable energy resources and are free of greenhouse gas emissions [2]. This condition imposes unique challenges on the planning and operation of a hydro wind integrated power system in a reliable manner [8]. Previous studies on wind penetration issues and solutions found that the limiting factors of wind integration include penetration level, forecasting reliability, geographic diversity, hydro generation flexibility and control of the overall system [6]. Control is a key enabling factor for the deployment of renewable energy systems [9]. Control techniques such as linear and dynamic programming, genetic algorithms, and neural networks, proposed by past research, for the control and economic dispatch of renewable energy systems, have not been acknowledged to be error free [3]. Two major flaws identified in existing techniques include the lack of ease of use, and adaptability to new situations and evolving regulations [3]. These flaws pose major operational challenges to utilities and thus, make control technologies optimization an imperative research endeavor. In 1998, the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Policy 1 Generation Control and Performance Standard (CPS) was enforced to ensure effective frequency control in interconnected power systems. • 21. Difference Between Moral Relativism And Moral Objectivism Essay Assignment #1 Morality seeks to provide a moral agreement that binds the people in a society by providing a blueprint of shared values that dictate what is right and wrong. The two principles of morality are moral objectivism and moral relativism. The thesis of this essay is that moral relativism is a better guide to morality as compared to moral objectivity as it puts things into perspective by considering moral ideas and variables on a universal understanding. Moral relativity cannot be completely ignored. As morality is a practical activity, relativity provides a better moral scope compared to moral objectivism. Moral objectivism could be appropriate if the current order of things in today s universe is obliterated or if people live as hermits that do not interact with others. Morals are relative to cultures and individuals. The same activity can have different moral values depending on a particular society, culture or persons. Despite some similarities with other movies, Swallowtail Butterfly is trying to set itself apart from convention by highlighting its unique artistic value and presenting unconventional perspective of a trendy topic. If I regard the appreciation of Swallowtail Butterfly as an evolutionary process, the first thing I realize might be its very artistic filming style. Shunji Iwai adopts some film techniques which often appear in the movies of 6th generation directors. But unlike 6th generation directors who constantly pursue realism in their movie, by the use of color, music and composition, Shunji Iwai injects considerable artistic value into this movie and he makes use of the artistic value to achieve an utopian vision of Yen Town. A study of a United States population found that individuals who had high levels of sun exposure were about 1.5 times more likely to develop cortical or posterior subcapsular cataracts than those who had low sun exposure, while those with moderate sun exposure were about 1.2 times more likely to develop each of these types of cataracts. * Pterygium: Pterygium is characterised by a fleshy growth on the eye s surface. The WHO estimates that 4070% of the global burden from this disease is attributable to sun exposure. A study conducted in Victoria reported that 43.6% of pterygium cases were attributable to sun exposure. * Age related macular degeneration: Based on laboratory studies showing thatUV rays cause retinal damage in rats, scientists believe that exposure to UV rays contributes to the degeneration of eyesight which occurs naturally with ageing. How UVR Impacts the Eye The various tissue layers of the eye absorb the wavebands of UVR to different extents. The longer the wavelength, the deeper the penetration of ocular tissue. Of the radiation from sunlight, UV B has the greatest impact on the eye. Overexposure can result in photokeratitis or, in rare cases, solar maculopathy. Studies show that chronic exposure to UV B can also cause cortical cataracts. UV A is considered a greater threat to produce skin cancer than damage the eye.

I wanted to look into how the punk era used fashion to protest By 1975 the days of mass employment of the 1960s had changed. The distance between rich and poor in society became wider as the unemployment rate was the highest since WW2 and plummeted significantly amongst working class youth which created an anarchic and aggressive movement. It is during this period that Punk first emerged. Margaret Thatcher came to power in 1979 and the Thatcher era began. • 36. A Comparative Analysis of Tsunami Disasters in the Indian... Running Head: MHE503/MIH523 MODULE 1 CASE ASSIGNMENT MHE503/MIH523 Module 1 Case Assignment: Tsunami Disasters Question 1: Compare the impact between the tsunami in the Indian Ocean with the tsunami in Hokkaido on the population and infrastructure. Tsunamis are deadly and destructive natural disasters and have caused huge damages to population in recent history. The Tsunami of 2004 struck Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India and Thailand mainly and marginally many other countries scaled 9.0 on hector scale. Tsunamis can be initiated by many means but this one was triggered by an earthquake. The coastal cities of areas struck were ruined. In the living history, this Tsunami is considered the deadliest of all. It is recorded to have killed about two hundred thousand people (The Center for Research on the Epidemiology of Disasters 2009). The affected areas received billions of dollars in aids but could not be built again in a day the way they were destroyed. The 2004 Tsunami destroyed the fishery, agriculture, residence and transport system of the affected areas. Indonesia lost its 70% of fishing fleet of small scale. Thailand lost about 80% of its infrastructure and got 5,000 fishing vessels damaged. A big portion of coral reeves were lost in Tsunami and even after that the huge number of cars and concrete walls in the sea kept destroying coral reeves. Since the population of Indonesia is very high in the region and especially in the coastal areas, the loss was much higher than ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The exhibition was divided into three sections, The Language of Forms, Transmission of Knowledge, and History and Invention. The exhibition provided all sorts of objects; from sculptures, books, manuscripts, and more. It shows that there were separations between a Roman Age, Middle Age, and the Renaissance. People in the medieval era saw their own modern culture as thegrowth of classical Greek and Roman traditions in art and literature. This exhibition shows us that antiquity was conserved through visual arts, manuscripts, and more. The section of the exhibition I chose to focus on is Transmission of Knowledge. This section focuses on the classical knowledge that was preserved by and transmitted through the work of medieval transcribers and artists. • 38. Judaism Compare And Contrast The topic I choose to write about is Judaism. Like other religions, there are differences in the religion. I decided to compare and contrast the different types of Judaism. Writers compare and contract in order to understand their similarities and differences ( Vandermey 2012 pg. 182 ). Judaism is a monotheistic religion. Judaism is 3,500 years old, is the oldest of the monotheistic religions. The first attestation of the word Judaism occurs in 2 Maccabees, a Greek abridgment of a history of the Maccabean revolt that was written ca. 124 BCE References Satlow, M. L. (2006). Monotheism is the worship of a single powerful God. The prefix of mono means one. The covenant was the promise God made with Abraham that his people would be sacred and give them a holy land. Judaism is a tradition grounded in the religious, ethical, and social laws as they are articulated in the Torah which is the Jewish holy book. There are several different sects in the Jewish religion such as Reformed, Conservative, and Orthodox Jews. • 39. The Rebirth Of Ancient Cultures Teresa Fang Professor Moore Humanities 310 25 November 2015 The Rebirth of Ancient Cultures in Renaissance Florence Florence, Italy is known as the cradle of the Renaissance (la culla del Rinascimento). It is a city full of beautiful architecture, art, and history. The Renaissance was a powerful cultural movement that not only shaped all aspects of Florentine life, but eventually the rest of Europe. Science, art, literature, philosophy, religion, architecture, and politics have seen heavy influences by this movement. The term Renaissance literally means rebirth : the rebirth of man and the rebirth of two important ancient cultures, Greek and Roman, which had been lost with the beginning of the Middle Ages in Western history. Florence was very prosperous during the late Middle Ages, next to Venice and Milan. It was the birthplace of many important thinkers, artists, architects, and political figures who led the Renaissance. Along with the birth of the philosophy of humanism, the rebirth of ancient Greek and Roman cultures were driven by a revived interest in ancient thought, the advances in literature, the emphasis of human based ideals in the arts, and the influence of the papacy and the Holy Roman Empire upon the Florentine government. Italian thinkers had an interest in the ways that ancient Greeks and Romans thought, a driving force of the Renaissance. It was the Florentines who first set out to rediscover the glorious past of these cultures. They strongly believed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Wastewater treatment with microalgae is a more environmental sound approach to reduce nitrogen and phosphorus and to remove heavy metals from wastewater. Microalgae can absorb significant amount of nutrients because they need large amounts of nitrogen and phosphorus for proteins (45 60% microalgae dry weight) and metals as micronutrients for their growth. William Oswald first developed the idea of treating wastewater using microalgae and performed photosynthesis in sewage treatment [29]. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 2.2.1 Nitrogen Organic nitrogen is the key element in biological substances like enzymes, peptides, proteins, chlorophylls and energy transfer molecules such as ADP (Adenosine diphosphate) and ATP (Adenosine 5 triphosphate) [33]. Organic nitrogen is derived from inorganic sources including nitrite (NO2 ), nitrate (NO3 ), nitric acid (HNO3), ammonia (NH3), ammonium (NH4+), and nitrogen gas (N2). Microalgae has an ability to convert inorganic nitrogen be only in the forms of nitrite, nitrate and ammonium to organic nitrogen through a process called assimilation. Only eukaryotic algae can perform assimilation [32]. Figure 2.2 describes the assimilation process of inorganic nitrogen. As shown in the figure 2.2, translocation of inorganic nitrogen takes place across the plasma membrane where reduction of nitrate takes place followed by the incorporation of ammonium into amino acids and glutamine. Initially nitrate is reduced to nitrite by a NADH dependent nitrate reductase and the nitrite reduced to ammonium by NADPH linked nitrite reductase present within the algae. The resulting ammonium is assimilated to form amino acids by glutamine and glutamate synthase within the intracellular fluid using adenosine triphosphate (ATP), glutamate (Glu) and glutamine synthase. Thus, all inorganic forms of nitrogen are finally reduced to organic form (amino acids) [32]. Figure 2.2 Conversion of inorganic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The belief in the afterlife involved with this holiday is very similar to that of the mesoamericans. The aztecs in particular had a month long celebration, very similar to that of Day of the Dead, in which they honored and delivered offerings to the deceased. When the spaniards arrived they did a fair job of popularizing their faith among the mesoamericans. The mesoamericans moved their month long celebration of death to coincide with the catholic holidays of All Saints and All Souls(November 1st and 2nd). Today, Day of the Dead is about celebrating death by creating altars carpeted with offerings to the souls of loved ones. Today, an iconic symbol of Día de los Muertos is the skeleton, one of the most significant skeleton characters is La Catrina. Day of the Dead is now picking up bits and pieces of Halloween tradition. Children are now participating in pedir los muertos, or ask the dead, during which children dress in costumes and meander, receiving candy as well as things from people s day of the dead altars, in some places. Halloween has already spread worldwide, and been given many cultural interpretations of what it represents, and how it should be celebrated.
