FORCE
WHAT IS FORCE?
Force is a push or pull that acts on n object due to its
interaction with another object.
It is applied on an object to cause changes – movement,
shape, or the direction it is moving.
Effects of Force
Changes in Movement
Changes in Shape
Changes in Direction
Changes in Movement
 Pushing (moving an object away from
you) and pulling (moving an object
towards you) something makes it move
 Ex:
- Dribbling a ball
- Moving a swing
- Bringing a schoolbag close to you
Changes in Shape
 Ex:
- Stretching a rubber band
- Squeezing dishwashing sponge
- Molding clay
Changes in Direction
 Different objects react different by
changing the direction when force is
applied.
 Ex:
- Rolling a ball on the floor, then step on it,
what do you think will happen to it? What
force will you apply to stop it from roling?
Types of Force that affects the
direction/movement of an object:
Friction
Gravity
Gravitational force
FRICTION
 force exerted by a surface when
something comes in contact with.
 It is the reason why you did not easily
slip on the floor or ground when you
step or walk on it. The friction is
produced when the feet or shoes made
in contact with the floor’s surface.
GRAVITY
 force that pulls two objects toward each
other. It attracts people and objects to
the ground.
 Causes:
- you to come down when you jump.
- the leaves of trees to fall off when
wind blows
- the ball thrown up in the air to come
down
GRAVITATIONAL FORCE
 It is exerted by the moon and sun. its
gravitational attraction to Earth, the
moon tries to draw to its everything that
is on the planet.
 Causes: tides or rising and falling of
water in big bodies of water.
MAGNETISM AS FORCE
MAGNET
– object that attracts other
objects made of iron or steel, do not
attract nonmagnetic materials like
paper, cloth, glass, wood, and metals
like aluminum and copper.
- an invisible field
that forces objects to react or an area
un which a magnet exerts its force on
certain objects.
– ability to attract objects.
Kinds of Magnet
Both kinds are made up of group of metals called ferromagnetic metals
(include iron and nickel.
1. Permanent Magnets
 retain their magnetism for a long
time.
 made into different shapes, often
formed into a U or bar shape.
 Ex:
- Magnets that keep the refrigerators
doors closed.
2. Temporary Magnets
 lose their magnetism once they are
no longer in contact within a strong
magnetic field.
 Ex:
- Steel paper clips exposed to
permanent magnets
Law of Magnetism
 Force in a magnet is concentrated at its
two ends, which are called poles.
 Force of attraction is strongest at the
poles.
North pole – end that points to the
north part
South pole – end part faces the south
 Same poles repel from each other,
opposite poles attracts to each other.

  • 14. Kinds of Magnet Both kinds are made up of group of metals called ferromagnetic metals (include iron and nickel.
  • 15. 1. Permanent Magnets  retain their magnetism for a long time.  made into different shapes, often formed into a U or bar shape.  Ex: - Magnets that keep the refrigerators doors closed.
  • 16. 2. Temporary Magnets  lose their magnetism once they are no longer in contact within a strong magnetic field.  Ex: - Steel paper clips exposed to permanent magnets
  • 17. Law of Magnetism  Force in a magnet is concentrated at its two ends, which are called poles.  Force of attraction is strongest at the poles. North pole – end that points to the north part South pole – end part faces the south  Same poles repel from each other, opposite poles attracts to each other.
