According to the Chicago Tribune “The safety breaches, uncovered by the Federal Aviation Administration during routine inspections last month at O’Hare, range from debris on runways... An object as small as a stone on a runway can pose a danger to flight by being ingested into aircraft jet turbines or piercing a fuel tank and sparking an explosion and fire. Yet FAA inspectors found rocks, garbage and wood survey stakes used during construction on runways and taxiways at O’Hare”Slide 4 COn October 24, 2009. According to Greenville news “Federal aviation authorities said Sunday they are investigating a United Express flight that had tire trouble while taxiing to the runway at Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport...The deflation was attributed to “foreign object debris,” which could include a bag tag or a fork from a catering business...”
